You are pilot HARRY NEUMANN, the newest of one of the New UN Spacy's Tactical Sound Units!

Currently, you've just gotten off of a major battle against Zentradi forces, where the NUNS fleet was successful in forcing them out of Torman Fields for good. The whole enemy fleet was in full retreat while being harried by skirmishing Ghost and Valkyrie squadrons to discourage them from regrouping.

However, Dorothea had apparently opted not to pursue the Zentradi, instead deciding to stay put on consolidate the freshly retaken territory.

You also finally managed to reestablish communication with the SMS contingent, who were able to achieve their objectives and weather the storm in relatively good order.

However, there was one thing that you had to take care of...

How to survive Dorothea's wrath now that you've shown her the pinup of her you had painted on your Valkyrie.

You're honestly not sure what would happen once you enter Dorothea's office. You were in completely uncharted territory here. As your Valkyrie lands, the hangar crew give you a wide berth. Even they knew that you were a marked man.

You just take a deep breath and begin your long funeral march up the command section of the Pacifica, where Dorothea was waiting. You figure that you had better go face your fate and go down swinging, as any pilot worth their salt would.

"Don't worry! I'll take good care of your Valkyrie after you die horribly!" Lara shouts helpfully.

"Thanks, Lara." You sigh.

It feels like hours have passed by the time you reach Dorothea's office, the cold steel door with her name stenciled on it seemingly mocking you as you stared at it. Finally, you muster up your courage and give the door a solid knock.

It instantly slides open, revealing Dorothea's almost needlessly elegant workspace. And of course, there was Dorothea herself, sitting at her desk, her face...

Dorothea was exhibiting that typical cold and emotionless British stoicism her people were famous for. Her reddish amber eyes were locked on to you like a heat seeking missile, tracking your every move and facial expression, looking for an avenue of attack she could exploit.

She was actually kinda scary like this.

"Well?" She says simply, hands clasped in front of her face like some sort of diabolical scheming villain. "Care to explain yourself?"

"It was all in good fun, Dorothea, honest." You say, trying to exude as much innocent sincerity as you can.

"Mhm." Dorothea only gives the slightest of nods, still glaring at you. "I'm sure it was very fun painting a caricature of your own Admiral on the side of your Valkyrie as if she were some sort of cheap plaything, yes?"

You... you were pretty sure Dorothea was just being sarcastic and was merely messing with you but... shit, that stoicism of hers was so convincing that it was leaving you second guessing yourself.

You just stand firm, straightening your posture and putting yourself at attention, like a soldier at a parade drill. Two could play the stoic game, after all.

"Admiral, such a simple pinup did not cause any active harm to the fleet, and in fact greatly improved morale among the crew. I thought you would appreciate that."

"Oh?" Dorothea's eyebrow raises ever so slightly, apparently accepting your challenge.

You do your best to maintain your composure, but you're playing in Dorothea's territory now, and she was far better at maintaining a poker face than you were. FAR better. Your brow begins to sweat as your body unconsciously stresses out, the flight or fight response surging through your nerves.

It's at this moment Dorothea picks her time to strike, calmly standing up from her desk and marching over, hovering her face mere inches from yours, still giving you that blank stare like a drill instructor. You instinctively recoil backwards, ancient instincts screaming danger in your ear.

And then she bursts into laughter.

"My god, it looks like you're about to wet yourself!" She snickers.

"W-what?" You blink.

"You didn't SERIOUSLY think I was mad at you over something as trivial as a pinup, right?" Dorothea raises an eyebrow at you.

"You were pretty damn convincing." You admit.

"Hmph, well, I AM an Admiral, after all." Dorothea gives a smug smile before pulling away. "Besides, I had to give the impression to the rest of the crew that I didn't officially give you clearance for that pinup."

"Need to maintain that veneer of professionalism, huh?" You sigh as you plop down in one of the very intricate wooden chairs in her office.

"Of course." Dorothea nods as she pours two cups of tea from her tea set, the water still steaming hot. "It's part of my duty as an admiral, after all. Plus, I'm sure my 'displeasure' is only going to earn you more respect among the general crew, so it's a win for both of us."

"Always thinking three steps ahead, aren't you?" You chuckle as you accept the teacup she hands you.

"Another duty of an admiral." Dorothea sighs as she casually sits on your lap, sipping her tea as if nothing odd at all was happening.

"Hm, you still have plenty of stamina left, I see." Dorothea says simply, still sipping casually at her team.

Wait, what's she talking about-

No.

Noooooooooo.

She didn't actually feel-

"Unfortunately, we don't have time for something like that right now." Dorothea smirks as she stands back up, making sure to brush her rear all across your lap as she does so. "I'm expecting a rather important call soon."

"From who?" You gulp, still staying seated to protect what little dignity you had left.

"High Command, who else?" Dorothea grunts. "I don't expect good things from them, given the timing."

"Maybe they're impressed with your performance?" You wonder.

"Success in the battlefield is often a double edged sword." Dorothea replies, as if reciting an ancient proverb. "Anyways, you're free to go now. I just wanted to see you before having to deal with this unpleasantness..."

You beat a hasty retreat back to your quarters, where decide it's time for a nice, long, and very cold shower.

The cool water does wonders to calm you down, giving you time to think properly.

You've managed to push the Zentradi out of Torman Fields but... now what? Would you just return to Nabaal and wait for the Zentradi to make their next move? Or would Dorothea finally be convinced that more aggressive action be taken? Would the Zentradi even come back after such a bloody nosed defeat?

"I'm sure you're wondering why I'm here." Rin smiles, handing you the bag. "Just some cookies, as a gift."

"I sort of suspected this for a while already." You narrow your eyes. "And how did you come across this information?"

"SMS has its own intelligence division, after all." Rin shrugs innocently. "And sometimes they don't pay close attention to what they say when a very cute idol is around, you know?"

You are sort of getting the feeling that Rin was far more dangerous than she appeared.

"All right, so what sort of danger is Amy supposed to be in?" You frown. "I already know there's some colonial agitators that want to use her for their own ends."

"They're not the only ones." Rin shifts around a little uncomfortably. "The thing is, after all these successful battles and performances, Amy is bringing in results, and that attracts attention, especially from higher up. There's... certain factions in NUNS who feel Amy would be better suited on other fronts..."

"They want to transfer her away?" You grimace.

"It's an idea being floated around." Rin says. "I just thought you and your Admiral should know."

"Thanks, I really appreciate it." You grin.

"Well, us idols need to help each other out, right?" Rin winks. "I really should be going now-"

And that's when your phone beeps from a new message. You instinctively check it and see a message from Amy, wondering where the hell you were.

"Trying to steal me away from Amy, are you?" You chuckle.

"Never! I wouldn't tease her like that!" Rin giggles before taking her leave with one final wave.

And almost as if things were perfectly timed, just barely seconds after Rin heads off, you get another knock at your door. Of course it was Amy.

"Hey, Cap!" Amy smiles, standing there with arm hooked around a nervous looking Cole.

Wait, they were letting Cole wander around freely now?

"Wait! Lemme explain!" Amy says quickly. "It looked like she calmed down a whole lot after the battle, so I figured, maybe she wasn't all that bad or anything, you know...?"

You take one look at Cole, you just looks curiously back at you. A far cry from the almost feral creature you had to deal with when you first captured her.

Still...

"Amy. You say in a scolding tone. "You do know that Cole still a potential security threat?"

"But, Cap! Look at her!" Amy pushes Cole forward, who seems to be taken by surprise.

"H-h-hey!" She yelps.

Huh, she did seem to be much less violent than before. Maybe Amy's songs really did have a significant effect on her? Regardless, this was still a huge risk.

"All right, I suppose I can let this slide." You grunt. "Now get in before anybody sees."

The girls quickly shuffle inside as you close the door behind them, making sure to check if anybody was looking before withdrawing back inside.

"Heeeeey." Amy frowns as she sees Rin's gift bag lying on your bed. "What the heck is this? Cookies? From who?"

Damn, should you tell her that Rin was here...?

"Oh, Rin stopped by and left those for us." You say simply. There wasn't really much reason to lie about this sort of thing, after all.

"Oh sweet! Cookies!" Amy grins as she snatches up the bag. "You won't mind if Cole has one, right?"

"Has Cole ever had a cookie before?" Your raise an eyebrow.

"Ummm, I don't know." Amy looks to Cole. "Have you?"

"I don't even know what a cookie is." Cole says simply.

>Well we can't have that. Force feed them to her if necessary!

"You know what's a good idea, Amy." You nod as you pull a cookie out of the bag. Chocolate chip. Of course. "Open wide, Cole."

"Wha-" Cole sputters but doesn't have a chance to finish as you take the opportunity to jam the cookie into her open mouth.

Cole's open wide and her pupils seem to dilate as she gets a proper taste of the cookie, before emitting a high pitched squeal as she munches down the rest of the cookie like a wood chipper.

"More! More!" Cole says enthusiastically as she grabs at the goodie bag.

"Hey! I haven't had one yet!" Amy grunts as she snatches the bag away from you first.

You can't help but smile at watching Amy and Cole squabbling over the remaining cookies when your phone rings. Both girls are too distracted with Rin's sweets to notice, so you turn around and pick up.

"Dorothea?" You ask, glancing at the call ID.

"Get to the briefing room." Dorothea says grimly. "There's a lot of news, a not a lot of it is good."

>And that's it for tonight! As always, next thread is next week! And don't forget Frontier Knight on Saturday!
