Finally after two years in the service of the Dark Queen Quintis you have finally been promoted, no more marching through filthy peasant villages administering the Queen's justice, this is your chance to rise through the ranks of her Majesty's armies and become one of her generals, or so you thought.

We left off with Baldr getting some well needed rest to prepare for the coming reinforcements.

You continue your reading of the herbalist’s book for a while longer, looking through the plants section looking for other noteworthy plants, of which you find none but you do learn a little about some local plants as well as general knowledge of the anatomy of plants. You get about halfway through the plants section before your eyes grow too heavy to continue and you head off to bed, wanting to get a full night’s sleep for the big day tomorrow.

Hours after you fall asleep, a dark stealthy shape steals towards the entrance to the base.

The goblin trips falls and lands on a trap blades spring from the wall and the intruder tries to doge them, succeeding by only in avoiding death as one of the blades slashes the intruders side.

Letting out a small grunt the intruder checks the wound and decides to continue on, dripping blood.

With the roof sliding down the intruder dives out of the way barely making it. As the ceiling crunches down on the intruders crossbow. Letting loose another curse the intruder rises back to their feet and continues on.

Many minutes later the intruder stumbles out of maze starring at the main hallway with 3 doors to choose from.

Why would that be a good idea? The reason why she's questioning her views is because no one is coming to her rescue. If we bring her living proof of a rescue attempt then it would revert all the progress we've made with her thus far.
>>2621776
Honestly I'm really damn surprised insurrectionist leaders are already starting to show up. Maybe it's because we are really close to the already captured cities, the map doesn't really clear up how much the rebellion captured already. It might just be a lesser boss in one of the lower rings. Maybe a goon of the assassin or an assassin to be and it was their test to prove to the heroes that they can do assassin tasks. Which I'm pretty sure is what Selenas was to do, prove her worth to the heroes by capturing a small bumpkin town of McNobody. So maybe after not hearing anything they send out another to test them against the same thing.

I don't think stringing up a bloodied corpse to our front door would really send the right message to Resis. We would become just another brutish, mindless, and dishonorable warden. Not only would that be bad for us that wouldn't really gain any favor with the queen. Depending on who she is, should kill her unceremoniously or in the upcoming talk with the village as a public execution. Show how their false heroes are weak. We could also try to bind her and imprison her depending on why she is here. If her mission was to save Selenas then we kill her. If her mission was to retrieve the sword then we keep her and show Selenas how much the heroes really think of her.

the damage for combat works like this

(average of your rolls) - (average of enemy rolls) = (damage dealt) whoever has the higher average does the left over damage

Crits work like this if you get a critical but less average damage the damage from the enemies dice is halved, If your average damage is higher than your attacks dice damage is doubled.

So for example:

>your rolls (20,15,10) [15] - enemy rolls (6,5,4) [5] = 10 damage X2 from crit = 20 damage

>your rolls (20,2,2) [8] - enemy rolls (19,18,17) [18]= -10 damage X1/2 from crit = 5 damage dealt to you

and crit fails work in the opposite way

>your rolls (1,14,15)[10] - enemy rolls (5,4,3) [4] = 6 damage X1/2 from crit fail = 3 damage

>your rolls (1,5,9) [5] - enemy rolls (11,10,9) [10] = -5 damage X2 from crit fail = 10 damage dealt to you

You take up a defensive posture, lowering your spear tip to the two intruders. With a quick stabbing motion you strike into the left one. Your halberd passes through her, you curse and turn waiting for a strike from the right. The intruder on your right continues to posture and you swing your halberd to her only to have it pass through as well. It is then that the image fades and reveals the dark entrance of the base. Outside you can hear the songs of bugs and night animals accompanied by the sound of parting grasses, The bitch had slipped you.

Plan for the day:
>Talk with Selenas in the morning, inquire about her some more. Get to know her and "Sympathize" with her.
>Link up with reinforcements and talk with the town's Mayor/Eldar and address the town as a whole afterwards (release the prisoners at this point)
>Make preparations for training a local militia and patrol routes for the garrison. Get more local labor to work on the dungeon. I'm thinking the next build project should be a prison. We need to, however, organize with the locals to work on food stores and see what we can do to keep our guys fed.

You stop at the entrance to your base and catch your breath, for now she could run but with those wounds she couldn’t travel for long and with your wolves you could easily track her.

While you wait for your goblins to catch up you hear soft whimpering noises and see one of your wolves lying out in front of the base’s entrance. You approach the beast lying on its belly looking up at you with a pained expression. Examining the beast you see a crossbow bolt jutting out of the beast’s chest. The bolt had missed the wolf’s lungs but it had struck deep and judging by the blood leaking out from around the shaft, it had hit something important.

Coming up behind you, the two goblins you had sent to chase the intruder come up and panting heavily give you a report “We lost… the intruder,” one breathes.

“Man down… in the corridor… Niddle… poisoned,” wheezed the other.

“Go get Grintol and tell him to bring both of his wolves to the entrance we’re going to get the bitch that did this.” You say and the two exhausted goblins turn back to the maze.

Damn this wasn’t good, you could try to save the wolf and the goblin, but that would mean you couldn’t pursue the intruder, and your goblins might need your help.

>The intruder must pay for her crimes, get your armor on it was time for a hunt.

Let the goblins give chase while we help heal.

Make sure to tell the goblins to take no chances she is out if ranged weapins but she is still very dangerous. Just harras and chase her untill she drops from blood loss or exhaustion.
>>
>>2623928
>If you can save the wolf and Niddle then you have to try, let your goblins give chase.
I think we can afford to give our goblins the benefit of the doubt and trust in their abilities to sneak attack. It would be preferable if they bring her back alive, but if it's too dangerous then they should kill her. Take what they think they will need on their hunt.
>>
>>2623936

You reach down and gingerly pick up the wolf. Heavy as it is you bear its weight as you walk back into the maze. On the way back you have the two goblins pick up Niddle and lay him down in your room as you lay the wolf down on one of your sturdy tables.

You turn back to the two goblins who brought Niddle in and give them additional orders. "Grintol is to lead the search party for the intruder, she should be bleeding heavily and will be weaker. Do not under estimate her though, wear her down and wait for her to drop if you can, bringing her in alive is preferred but don't kill yourselves for it, Understand."

The two goblins give you a nod and leave your room as you set about dealing with the wounded.

A quick examination of the goblin showed a knife wound in his back, around the wound the flesh had grayed and smelled of rot. Niddle's breathing was labored and he coughed with every exhalation.

Niddle needs your immediate help, so you set to work with what you remember from your days as a solider, you fill two pots with water, one you keep cool the other you boil. You place the cool rag on Niddle's head to help with his burgeoning fever, while using the boiling water you clean his oozing wound. This poison was nasty and you weren't sure you could do much else for the poor man when you remember the detox shot from the herbalists book.

All you needed was some Bitter Root, Pigs Tail Flower, and Tromple Wart.

The Tromple Wart grew in abundance on the manure piles in the kennels and the Bitter Root was an easily find able plant, but the Pigs Tail Flower was another matter entirely it was rare, even in your area where they were the most common.

You tear through the pages of the plants section until you stumble upon a weed with some what similar properties to Pigs Tail Flowers. The Snag Weed a common enough plant with sticky fibrous growths that tangle up and trip unwary travelers.

With the ingredients for the detox shot arranged, you take a look at the wolf, after you take the arrow out you will have to close its wound and for that two options were available. You could either sear the wound shut which was easier but the wound would take more time to heal, or make a poultice for it which would be more difficult but heal the wound better.

You grip hard the bolt and yank it out the wolf gives a snarling bark and bares its fangs at you. You sneer back at it and say "Stop whining it doesn't hurt that bad."

You take the now red hot knife and press it into the wound. The sound of searing flesh, mixed with the snarl of the wolf as it swings its head down and digs its teeth into your arm you hold the knife in the wound waiting for about three more seconds and then you drop the knife and use your fingers to pry the wolf from your bare arm. Blood welled from the bite mark on your arm and you curse wrapping it in clean cloth. The wolf gives you what you think is a knowing smile, the smug bastard.

With the wolf taken care of you proceed outside to find the herbs.

You rush out of the base, torch in hand and search the surrounding terrain for the plants you need. Stumbling through the near dark you find a lot of the plants you need, so much you could make several of the detox shots. When you approach the top of the hill looking for even more plants, you trip over a gnarled looking root, when you pick yourself up you find yourself in a whole patch of Pigs Tail Flowers, now you should easily be able to make detox shots anytime you need to. Collecting a few you then return to your room and toss the ingredients into the boiling pot of water and wait for the ingredients to brew. While you wait you rewet the cloth on the goblins head and adjust him into a sitting position for the tea.

The pungent scent form the pot meant that the brew was ready. Taking a ladle full of the tea you press it to the goblins lips and have him drink the concoction. He drinks it down easy enough and you then sit back and wait.

After about ten minutes the detox shot takes effect. Vomit spews from the goblins mouth, and you quickly give him a bucket to puke into, it is then that you notice that he is sweating profusely and has also in fact pissed himself. You gather more buckets and bedpans as the goblin starts shitting himself as well.

Half an hour later, having emptied himself completely. Niddle collapses to the floor passed out from exhaustion. You check the goblin, his breathing had stabilized and he was beginning to cool and come down from his fever, you had saved his life. Now though he owed you, owed you for having to clean up every nasty expulsion from his body, oh he would pay just as dearly as the intruder would when your goblins caught up with her.

Finally the intruder bursts from the grasses and down onto a muddy creek bank.

"The creek, I made it," the intruder breathes as she leaps into the water and swims down stream.

Only minutes later your goblins burst on to the bank wolves sniffing the mud.

"She must of jumped into the river," said Grintol atop his wolf "She was injured which means she'll probably be traveling down stream." Grintol turns his wolf that direction and bounds off in search of her the other goblins and wolf following.

Gintol and the search party walk the bank for hours but the wolves fail to pick the scent back up. Cursing Grintol turns the party around, the boss wasn't going to be happy about this.

After our reinforcements arrive we will meet with the village leader in full armor, yeah

Right now I don't think there is any more insurrectionists to bother us as is. The assassin is most likely either a scout or just someone to get in and retrieve something. But as is they gained very little information on anything, with them stumbling in and out of the dungeon I doubt she knows the maze very well either. Doubtless to have another assassin attempt to properly scout the base or they will come in force at a much later date. Regardless it's not an entirely immediate threat. Plus they don't know of our reinforcements so if and when they return they will have sorely underestimated our forces.

"Grintol circle around back and make sure no one leaves out of a back door," He nods and heads off.

You stride to the front door and deliver three heavy knocks, Thump, THUmp, THUMP. Some slight shuffling is heard inside before the herbalist opens the door a crack and pokes his head out. His stern gaze starts at your feet and as it travels up your body it starts to reveal twinges of fear. He swallows before asking, "Can I help you sir,"

>Start polite ask him if he has had any recent patients.

Rest assured citizen. I am only here because I suspect an assassin can here at night. One of the 'Heroes' if you catch my drift. Did anybody visit you last night?
Just as a precaution I suggest you stay inside and allow me to search your home. This shouldn't take long.

You do a quick check of the other two rooms in the hut. One was the living quarters of the herbalist and his apprentice , two beds and trunks containing the personal affects of the herbalist and his apprentice. The other room was where the herbalist practiced his craft and cooked his meals, it was a room dominated by a large fire pit and containers full of herbs and other ingredients.

Damn, where was did the intruder go?

> 4 Successes (Holy Shit)

Your hand shoots to the herbalist’s throat and his eyes go wide as you squeeze his neck and lean in close to his reddening face.

“Listen here, you withered old skeleton. You are going to tell me where you hid the injured girl who came in here or I am going to flay you alive,” behind the herbalist, the wolf enters the hut “And then I am going to feed you to my wolf piece by blood soaked piece until you answer my questions.” The herbalist face was starting to turn purple in your hands, so you through him to the floor directly in front of the wolf which was emitting a low, menacing growl. “I would start speaking now old man before my wolf runs out of patience and I don’t even have time to cut you up before he devours you.” Your wolf stands over the herbalists face and licks its lips before baring its teeth and drawing closer, ever closer to the herbalist.

“Ok, Ok, I’ll tell you just get this beast away from me,” The herbalist screams as tears start to stream down his fear frozen face.

You give a short whistle and the wolf backs away from the herbalist, “Now where is she.”

“In a barn south of town, she is with my apprentice who is looking after her, please don’t hurt him. He is just a boy doing what he was told, he doesn’t know anything. Take the girl if you must but leave the boy alone,” he pleads.

With the location of the intruder in hand the only loose end left to deal with was this sobbing and broken old man.

>A public execution, he will share the fate of all traitors and rebels
>Apprehend him for now and deal with him later, you have to take care of this intruder first.

>>
>>2629994
That's a little unfair. They will surely kill him. If They do so then the town will be without a healer. What if he didn't know she was a hero?
>>
>>2629971
>[Write In]
Let him go, he's more use to us alive. But he should be more or less on house arrest than anything. If he's willing to not only try to join up with Selenas's previous riot (which the tavern owner convinced him to stay back) but also harboring a known criminal against the queen, then he should be dealt with before he is able to do any more harm.

His punishment should be House Arrest or something like that. Need to address the people about this once our reinforcements get here.
>>
>>2630003
>What if he didn't know she was a hero?

"Grintol!" you shout out the door and he appears in the entrance to the hut, "Watch our friend here I am going to retrieve our intruder from last night."

Grintol gives you a nod as you walk out of the hut and continue to the barn the herbalist mentioned south of town. You head straight inside to find the intruder unconscious on a pile of hay and the assistant checking her bandages, upon seeing you the assistant freezes and in a shaky voice says "I'm sorry, sir my master told me to bring the girl here and stay until he came, please let us stay in your barn for just a little while sir."

You quickly strip the unconscious hero of her weapons and do a full body check to make sure you didn't miss anything. You find a vial of poison hidden in her tied back hair, and on a bandage wrapped around her thigh under her clothes a brace of daggers. After your full search you sling the conscious, and now that you can smell her breath drugged hero over your shoulder, and head back to town.

You grab Grintol and the herbalist, before you begin the trip home.

She is too dangerous to be left alive. Especially since she's an actual assassin and not some chucklefuck with a sword.
>>
>>2631235
>actual assassin
Well, we don't --really-- know that for sure though. As far as what we really know is that she's a wayward soul trapped by the musings of false heroes and idols who call for worship.

We should totally kill her, waifu aside, she probably needs to die Probably
>>
>>2631235
Hmm before we do the hanging can we try and find out who her identity is?

Can we cut off her limbs and use her as bait for whoever sent her

or perhaps giving her to the queen might earn us some favor.

Oooh I got a hood one! Instead of say hanging her why don't we feed her to the wolves!

That way we won't have to worry about or wolves going hungry!

Of course we might need to cripple her first just to be safe.
>>
>>2631247
>Well, we don't --really-- know that for sure though.
The pat down literally exposed her as an assassin, I don't know about you but I legitimately can't think of any other class that hides vials of poison in their hair besides an assassin. Not only that, she was able to avoid a search party despite being wounded. Was able to sneak into the heart of our operations and was only found out because of a fuck up on her end, otherwise we'd end up with several very dead goblins and at best a struggle for our lives as she's trying to shank us like a turkey at thanksgiving.
This should not even be a debate in the first place.
>>
>>2631272
No, I'm saying she might not be *the* assassin.
>Valenca Saren
She's definitely *an* assassin. No doubt. But she seems entirely too incompetent to be the main big bad assassin. Probably a fledgling of the heroes. Kind of like Selenas is for the big lady, but instead for Saren.

>>2631271
Think everyone wants to know who this bitch is desu. I kinda don't want to feed her to the wolves, a bit dramatic and not really needed. Also I'm having flashbacks of a certain greentext when you talk about crippling her
>>
>>2631296
Hanging is boring!

If we execute her we'll do it with style!
>>
>>2631296
Alright so I'm talking about assassins in general and you're talking about the Assassin Hero. Ok so, even if she is a newbie, there's always the fact that Saren possibly trained her to be more highly resistant to torture techniques and being able to fake being turned to our side. Much like how Selenas could have been trained to rally crowds and be a leader since she was able to turn the town on our old boss with little to no problems.

>>2631272
>>2631315
That's a waste of a decent execution on an assassin. Just kill them, burn the bodies and be done with it
>>
You know....if we let Selenas know that the assassin came, we can turn it to our advantage.

Tell her the assassin was coming not to kill us, but to silence her. Make sure she could not divulge any information. That Selenas was now viewed as a loose end that needed to be dealt with.

And what wall were you thinking of specifically that would be a good place for her because I don't believe we have a proper place for that in the damned dungeon and again, which leads back to the fact that sound bloody travels, especially when the torturing begins.
>>
>>2632005
This works, we could break her arms and legs too.
But as >>2632021 said, we need someplace where nobody'll see or hear her especially Selenas.
>>
>>2632021
The vault. Move Selenas to the vault and then sneaky bitch to the kennels. (there's nothing really in the vault and is pretty thick ass door between her and freedom, also it isolates her.) Or the other way around. doesn't matter

Then again... We run into the problem of just not killing her off. We can't just keep collecting all the pretty faced cuties that happen on our doorstep. Then again, I'm not adverse to that either.. but I don't think the other anons would really want to be keeping around a small group of semi "Elite" terrorists. But seriously I'm pretty adverse to breaking anything like legs or arms or doing anything previously horrendous. We're not stupid evil, we're Lawful Evil if anything. Her binds and other wounds seem to have kept Selenas from escaping, and this lady doesn't even seem competent enough to get out of a serious bind.
>>
>>2632063

man, just kill her, too much trouble and we get rep with the gobs. she is just a time bomb, sever her leg tendons, interrogate then execution, simple and clean
>>
>>2632114
yeah I agree with you, just kill her off and be done with it. Get some information out of her.

What do you guys think?
>Down by the river
>In the forests
>In the Fort (Specify)
>Right outside the Fort, in the entrance?

Personally I'm partial to going out and taking a nice cool dip and drowning a sneaky bitch for the information. First we would have to strip her and then toss her in the water. (After interrogating her)

For those who want to keep her alive, what do you plan on doing to keep her around?
>Keep her in the vault, strip her, isolate her, and hide her away.
>Put her in the kennels. Gag her and strip her of anything note(her clothes) Maybe put a hood over her face.
>Keep her in your room. Wouldn't mind the company plus.. Keep your friends close and your enemies closer...
>Straight up mutilate her, break her bones and her spirit at the same time. She won't escape but she'll be a cripple for the rest of her life and virtually useless in everything other than whimpering.
>Chill out with the wheelchair and just keep her tied up in the middle of the war room. Gag her and hood her.

Most of what the binds I'd think of is kind of a hog tie or something like that. I like the idea of juts tossing her into the vault. Isolates her, puts her in total darkness, and keeps her from talking too much. We can probably gag her in all of these options, hood her too. The kennels isn't a super bad option but is a bit of nuisance if she does something to get out of the hood or gag. The vault, we are the only ones with the key so we would be feeding her and taking care of her. We would be her only contact.

And for the interrogation itself.
>Heat up a piece of nice red hot metal and stick her till she screams out all the juicy details.
>Good cop bad cop, Just the basic go to interrogation. Use methods on trying to get information through sly conversation and intrigue.
>FUCKING BREAK HER BONES
>R-rape?
>A mix of hurting her physically and trying to glean off as much information out of her. Cutting off a finger, breaking a hand, cutting her skin, other methods that doesn't make her useless outside of whining and whimpering like a blob of broken flesh.

You probably guessed my answer. There isn't much reason to break her if we are going to keep her alive. But I think we should put her down by the river, interrogate her via waterboarding, cutting on her, and taking a few fingers all the while breaking her spirit. Same goes for if we kill her off outright. Though keeping her alive has a few benefits. That is she can be a bargaining chip. We can talk it through with the useless heroes. She can also become corrupted, like Selenas we turn her into another servant of the queen by breaking her spirit and then building her back up in a vision the queen would be happy to see. Keeping her alive definitely has some major bonuses (Favor from the queen is one of them) but also comes with a big fat stinking risk. Escape (covered it)
>>
>>2632201
I'm thinking in the forests but near the fort that way if shit hits the fan we can retreat into the dungeon.

As for the interrogation, I'm thinking we do what we did with Selenas. Ask nicely the first time with the explanation that we will start cutting fingers, limbs, and even waterboarding until they start answering questions. After they answer all of our questions, we straight up kill her.
Also I would like to bring the Gobs in on the torturing so we can give them some experience in how to break a POW.
>>
>>2632234
Keep in mind that the forest starts about halfway between our base and the village before it opens up to the village (If I read that correctly). We might run the risk of her screams being heard if we are too close. Then again our scuffle with the bandits went unnoticed. But you can't be too careful when it comes with torturing silly naive girls
>>
>>2632244
Of course Anon, I'm just simply trying to be cautious about our interrogation.
If we must sacrifice the ability to quickly retreat into the dungeon for the simplicity of making the interrogation much easier then I will concede to the torturing near the river.
>>
>>2632234
I disagree on the her killing part, we should make this decision after we interrogate her.

As you approach the base you notice a large baggage train of troops both mounted and unmounted stopped at the entrance to your base. Among the troops you notice a carriage that is completely covered in plates of iron.

Noticing you, a rider breaks off from the group and approaches you. “Are you Sargent Baldr?” asks the young rider as he wheels his mount to a stop in front of you. One glance at the lad’s equipment and uniform told you he was in the queen’s army, so these must be your reinforcements.

“Aye I am Sargent Baldr,”

“The regional commander is waiting for you ahead sir, he wishes to speak with you, and I would hurry if I were you he’s in a foul mood right now.”

“Relay to the commander that I will be there momentarily,”

The rider gives you a small salute before turning his horse about and returning to the baggage train. Once he leaves Grintol shoots you a nervous look which you return with your own, you hadn’t expected the commander himself to show up.

You arrive at the entrance to your base to see the regional commander atop his horse examining the hill your base was built into. You approach behind him, then lifting the unconscious woman off of your shoulder and placing her on the ground; you stand at attention and give a salute. “You asked for me Commander,”

The man swiveled around in the saddle to look at you, a blank, almost bored expression on his face. “Yes, I did ask for you. I would like to know why you were not here to receive us this afternoon Sergeant, and also why you have an unconscious woman at your feet and sobbing old man walking behind you.”

“The woman is an intruder who attacked my garrison last night, and the old man is a herbalist who healed her wounds and then attempted to hide her.”

The commander raises an eyebrow at your response before saying, “And chasing down some rebel scout was more important than staying here and watching the captured hero?”

“Sir she used a magical illusion to escape, that was not something a normal scout would care, and besides that information I had gathered from the captured hero lead me to believe that his woman might be another hero.”

The commander stares at you his expression unchanged before he lets out a sigh and says “A worthy excuse I suppose, now sergeant lead me to this captured hero.”

The commander dismounts and a solider takes his horse, “Lieutenant,” the commander barks and a man about your age steps forward and salutes. “Lieutenant, put this woman in the carriage, and look after the old man.”

The lieutenant shouts orders to other soldiers as the commander turns back to you “Proceed sergeant” he says and you head into the base.

You lead the commander through the maze’s secret passages and down in to the kennels, where upon you stop in front of Selenas’s cage. “So this is the hero you captured,” the commander says as he stares at Selenas who turns toward the both of you.

“Who are you?” questions Selenas as her gaze fixes on the commander.

“Colonel Julian Crawthorne, madam, and you are?” he asks, a certain coolness to his voice.

“Selenas Redwater,” she says clearly taken aback by the politeness of the Colonel.

“Well Miss Redwater, I am here to transfer you a more appropriate and cleaner prison. Now let’s get you out of that cage.” He says as he opens the door and taking Selenas by the hand leads her out of the kennels you trailing in his wake.

As all three of you step back out of the base the Colonel leads Selenas into the carriage, where upon seeing the unconscious woman, Selenas cries out “Valenca,” as she rushes to the woman’s side.

“It would appear Sergeant that your assumption that this woman was a hero was correct. Now fall in line sergeant we are moving out.”

“Excuse me sir,” you say slightly shocked at the Colonels comment.

“You are coming with us to the Capital sergeant, the Queen wishes to see you,” he says as he mounts his horse.

“She wants to see me you stammer.”

“Of course, she wants to meet the man who captured not only one, but I guess two heroes, now fall in sergeant we are moving out.”

“We’ve advanced far Selenas, we’ve reached the Vitar River and are poised to cross it, you can’t tell me you’re getting cold feet now.”

“It’s just that, are we really helping anything, When I first met all of you, you were so kind to all of those villagers giving them food and restoring the sparkle of hope to their eyes, and I can see those eyes still in my head, but I also see the dead and empty eyes of those people I lead into that dungeon. When you speak of rebellion I can see the end goal, those sparkling hope filled eyes, but the road to that goal is filled with the corpses of thousands upon thousands of dead and empty eyed people and their watery eyed families. Valenca I can’t face those eyes anymore.

“Selenas listen to me, those peasants deaths aren’t your fault, your hand was not the one that stuck them down, it was that damned halberd wielding assholes fault. Do you understand me Selenas it wasn’t your fault.

"Selenas?" you hear Valenca say in a soft voice.

"No, Valenca it is my fault, it is our fault, We may not be the ones who swing the swords that strike them down, but we are the ones that push them into those swinging swords. We are just as blood spattered as they are."

"They did something to you. That monster of a man did something to you didn't he."

"Yes, he did something to me, he opened my eyes." Selenas responds in a tone devoid of emotion.

Another silence fills the air.

So this is one thing to work on QM: Run-on sentences. When you write conversations out, try and punctuate them sothey match the natural breaks a person would require if they spoke your dialogue out loud. If you need to, try and read out the character's exposition to yourself. When you pause or put emphasis on an idea, the written version needs some type of punctuation; don't fear the semicolon my friend!

The silence hangs in the air for a little while longer, before you decide that this was everything you were going to hear. You clamber back up to the seat of the carriage, and sit down next to Carson. The sun sat low in the sky now as night approached. Up ahead in the train, the Colonel calls for a stop. "We'll make camp up ahead on that rise," he shouts as the baggage train rolled its way forward and up a hill before coming to a stop. You dismount the carriage and assist setting up camp, meanwhile the Colonel sets up pickets and shifts. By the time everything is setup the sun had slipped below the horizon and the only remaining light was that of the campfire and torches.

You had some time before it was your turn for picket duty. You could talk with someone; although, getting some rest might be the best thing right now.

You need the sleep, especially since you were interrupted last night by the intruder. Retiring to your tent you lie down on a bed roll and fall asleep almost instantly. You are shaken awake hours later by a soldier who mumbles “Your turn,” before collapsing onto a nearby bedroll. Rising to your feet you don your armor and pick up your halberd before joining one of the squads on duty.

As hours pass by with nothing happening, you feel the lids of your eyes grow heavier and heavier. Damn even with you nap you couldn’t stay awake. If only you hadn’t been up late chasing Valenca you could have gotten more sleep. Why was so warm out? The air was like a blanket. Before long your eyes close and do not open.

A violent shaking wakes up as a voice whispers harshly in your ear “Sergeant, what are you doing, wake up before someone sees you.” Your eyes shoot open and you search for the source of the voice. It was Carson the wagon driver.

“Oh Carson, um I wasn’t sleeping, I was just staring at the back of my eyelids,” you say hastily as a smile forms on your lips.

“Very funny, Sergeant but the Colonel would have found it less funny. He probably would have you digging the latrines for the entire trip.”

“I see, I will try to avoid sleeping in front of the Colonel then.” You pause slightly then continue Thank you for waking me Carson, I owe you one,”

“I’ll hold you to that Sergeant now swap out and get some actual rest,”

“Yeah I think I will,” you say as you stumble back to your tent and swap out with another man. The next time you are woken, it is to help strike camp. By the time that is finished the sun had risen above the horizon and illuminated the endless fields of grass and grain, dew sparkling in the morning light.

As the march begins again you stand alongside the Colonel and his body guards.

Noticing you the Colonel calls out saying “Ah Sergeant, I’ve been meaning to speak with you, come closer.” You weave between the other riders until you come to stand beside the Colonel on his horse. “Sergeant, I’ve been wondering for a while now just how you managed to hold that garrison of yours against that unruly mob of peasants. The letter you sent me contained scant few details of what actually happened after the hero killed your superior and routed his forces.”

“What did you do when you were a sergeant,” You ask the Colonel.

Still staring off in the distance the Colonel answers you “I was in a marine detachment, assigned to a coastal defense fleet up north, we were following a raider ship who had just hit a village down the coast and was fleeing from us toward The Drift. Once we were far off coast spring winds and tides pulled us in further than we should have gone.” The Colonel’s tone flattened as he continued.” We ran into the bulk of a Drift raiding fleet, and unable to out run them we engaged. It was nasty ship to ship fighting, my marines and I were ordered to assault the raider flagship by our Commanding Officer. It was a suicide mission I didn’t have the men and the ship we were on was a third the size, but we went in anyways. The Captain of the ship we were on rammed the flagship, the brave bastard, it sunk his ship but we got on board. As soon as we hit the deck we got swarmed, like I knew we would. My men were getting cut down left and right no matter what we did. That is when I saw it a fire brazier on deck that archers were using to ignite arrows. I fought my way to it through the press of bodies and then kicked the damned thing over. Hot ash and coals spilled over and ignited the deck of the ship. Me and my men defended that fire until it consumed half the ship then I ordered them over the side of the ship. The crew tried to put the fire out but it was too late the flagship was going down, we had done it.” The Colonel pulls his gaze back to you as he finishes his story, “We were stuck at sea afterward and had to swim for The Drift to survive, but that is a story for another day.

>>

this, after that twenty I think we really set the flag on her head. as for the assassin, I don't think it was enough for her, we had numerous rolls and discussions with Selenas to put her where she is now
>>

Keeping her alive might be to our advantage in regards to Selenas
>>
>>2635499
yeah, honestly really glad that it worked out as it had. That dice roll is a godsend.
>>
>>2635544
I figure we tell whoever is in charge that Selenas is well on the way to rehabilitation, and Valenca is not beyond hope.

Not that I believe that, but they don't need to know that. Obviously she has some friendship with Selenas and supporting her execution or torture might undo some of our work.

We need to get Selenas emotionally dependant on us to secure her loyalty beyond a doubt. So we should keep them mostly isolated, but seeing her happy and successful working for the good of the kingdom might help introduce doubt in the assassins mind.
>>
>>2635600
yeah, but if they require at least one public execution as a show of strength I know who I'm naming
>>
>>2635616
or we can convince them that holding them prisoner would be a fate worse than death, as well as it baits the other heroes into trying to reclaim their lost friends.
>>
>>2635662
My idea Was that they haven't really annouced that another hero was captured. So we could pass Valenca as the rioter to be executed or imprisioned like you said and ask them to leave Selenas to our custody
>>
>>2635677
That sounds really good. We could also gain a some brownie points with Selenas because of that too. Though there is the issue with the heroes thinking they killed Selenas and that we have one of their big movers and wanting to retrieve their friend. Though I think the Queen's army would announce that they have Velenca

“Sir I have a question I think you might be able to answer.”

“Ask away Sergeant.”

“Why me, why would the rebellion target our garrison?”

“The answer is obvious my friend, to open a second front. They have the territory to the southeast locked down, that much is obvious. Knowing that; the heroes must have thought that by opening a second front to our southwest they could throw us off balance. To answer particularly why your garrison, I don’t know, maybe it was because it was the most isolated and hardest to reinforce, or maybe they thought your local population was the easiest to sway. I can’t really give you a definitive answer to that one. Regardless your deeds at the garrison stopped them in their tracks and now they’re reeling, which should give us time to reinforce our troops on that front and prepare a counter-attack.”

“Well being a merchant’s son you must have seen a lot of interesting places and things,”

“Not as much as you think sir, I’ve done more traveling now than I ever did with my father. See for the most part I just ran our cart back and forth between the hills and mining towns of the northwest and the capital. My father was a metal trader, and a pretty successful one. Well, he was one, until bandits attacked my cart one day when I was carrying a particularly valuable shipment metals, and some gemstones the miners had dug up. I had to abandon the cart to escape, and because of that my family lost everything. My father went into debt trying start the business again but while we were trying to get back on our feet, a noble had begun to run our routes and we just couldn’t get back into the market. The debt piled up, and we started to starve. That was when I signed up to join the army, a steady income and sign on bonus were all the incentives I needed. One day my family will climb out of its debt and I can go back to work with my father, but until that day, I’ll drive carts and carriages for the military.”

“So you don’t so you weren’t a merchant, just the cart driver son of one.”

“If you want to put it that way sure, but I did learn a few things from my dad.”

“Such as,”

Carson gives you a sideways look, “Why, you planning on becoming a merchant.”

“Maybe, I don’t know, I’m just curious.”

Carson gives a sigh before answering you “Sell people what they need, failing that take what one person has a lot of and bring it to others who have little of it. Basic tenants of trade right there.” Carson pauses and scratches his chin before turning back to you “That’s about all I know,” he says with a grin.

“Thanks for the tip Carson,” you say as you unseat yourself and begin to climb down onto the carriages side board.

“Anytime Sergeant anytime.”

You arrive at the barred window into the carriage, and peer in. Both Selenas and Valenca hadn’t moved since you last saw them.

You let your head fill the window and call into the carriage “Selenas,”

“Fuck off,” Valenca says coldly. While Selenas turns from the window she was looking through to stare at you, “Baldr,” she asks squinting trying to make out your shape.

“Yes, Selenas it is me.”

“You especially can fuck off,” Valenca says, anger entering her tone.

“Be quiet Valenca,” Selenas snaps. Her words seem to stun Valenca long enough for her to cross the carriage and come to your window. “Where are we going,” are the first words out of her mouth.

“The capital, probably, don’t worry Selenas; I’m doing everything I can help you.”

A laugh reverberates inside the carriage, “That’s rich,” Valenca snickers, “One of her majesty’s royal hounds helping out a hero,” Her laugh echoes loudly around the carriage.

You keep your cool and continue to talk with Selenas. Valenca won’t get a rise out of you. “I know things aren’t looking good but I will do all I can to see you get a lighter sentence.”

“A lighter sentence he says, Yeah a horribly slow and painful death swapped out for a quick one,”

You turn your head to face Valenca, “You want to talk about slow and painful deaths Valenca, then how about you explain what the poison on your daggers does to your victims. Because my comrade Niddle can go into full detail on what it did to him.”

Selenas turns to face Valenca at your words. “You poisoned them Valenca,”

“Valenca simply shrugs “That peasant slaughtering goblin got what was coming to him.”

“Actually he is fine as of now,” the pleased smile on Valenca’s face slides away as you speak “I managed to save his life, and that of the wolf you shot.” Valenca scowls and starts muttering under her breath, but otherwise remaining silent.

At last you could speak to Selenas without interruption.

“How are your legs, did the balm work?”

“My legs are fine now; my skin doesn’t itch and bleed anymore, the balm worked wonders. Thank you very much Baldr.”

“Don’t mention it. I couldn’t leave you to die from infected wounds.”

The sudden stop of the Carriage jolts you and you almost fall from the carriage. You look up at Carson and shout. “What the hell happened?”

“I don’t know but the whole train has stopped.”

You hop off the side of the carriage and survey the surrounding terrain. Tall grasses surround both sides of the train. A steady plains wind tosses the grasses all around creating a wave effect that turns the grass lands into a green ocean. As you look toward the front of the train you notice thin swirling black clouds of smoke rising into the air. You tighten your grip on the halberd as the hairs on the back of your neck stand up.

“Carson get down from the carriage,” your tone is hard and low.

Carson dismounts the carriage immediately and comes to your side. “What is it?” he asks.

“Just a feeling Carson, just a feeling.”

While you and Carson stand there, a solider walks back toward the tail of the train.

“What happened solider,” you ask as he passes by.

“A dead trader and his cart are blocking the path ahead. From the looks of it they were hit some time this morning, whoever did it is probably long gone by now.” The sound of stamping hooves and creaking cart wheels signified the resumption of the train. “Looks like they cleared it” the solider says as he continues on his way.

Carson climbs back up the carriage as you hop onto the side board once more. As the carriage rolls past the ambush point you get a good look at the carnage. The trader’s body was a mangled mess of broken bones and bruises. His horse a bloody mess of sword stabs. Whoever did this just wanted to kill, as most of the supplies were still in the charred wagon.

Your eyes remained on a swivel until the setting sun brought the caravan to a halt for the day.

In the trees, the ditches, the tall grass fucking elves man they were everywhere. You look away for a second and your buddy has his throat carved open.

This is an ambush the heros(possible elf agents) are going to try and spring their own.

After the tents had been steaked up and soldiers settled into pickets you look for the Colonel. You find him in his tent, looking over some maps of the area. Without looking up the Colonel asks “Something I can help you with Sergeant,”
