"Oh prince, let me tell you of the time after the great city of Illian was despoiled and before the rise of the men of Asshur. I will tell thee of a great warrior who appeared from the dark corners of the earth and trod the kingdoms of the earth beneath his feet. Let me tell you of a time of HIGH ADVENTURE"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BHfE682mm3c

When we left off last time, Alexandros had accomplished much since leaving Xylopolis on his holy mission to find help. He was joined by one of the younger villagers whose family was lost to the forest beasts, they killed bandits together, fought a sphinx to free a sprite named Spitha and Alexandros used the still living Sphinx as a sacrifice to the sun god for strength.

They encountered a questing knight from distant Cammlan who was looking for the mythical holy grail, before saving a mysterious woman from highwaymen.

After reaching the sun god's temple in Argos Alexandros rallied a small army of religous soldiers to follow him north and now he prepares to march alongside his comrades as the armies sorcerer prepares to burn down the forest in order to safely and quickly reach the lich's base of operations.

okay here are the ground rules for this quest.
>I will post the PCs current status at the beginning of the thread.
>rolls are d100, but I will specify if rolls are needed or if another type of dice is needed
>rolls are are made against a static dc or an oppossing role by an NPC with degrees of success measured by a difference in 10s
>I will post options and specify when write ins are appropriate
>PC base stats are always an unmodified d100 with a maximum 2 degrees of success.
>Successful actions will contribute to leveling up, traits determine stats with each successful roll bringing the PC closer to leveling up
>Critical rolls are 1 and 100 but their effect is contextual out of combat and in combat crits result in wounds. Wounds accumulate when critical hits that land and debuff your PC or debuff NPCs with enough wounds resulting in death, they require medical attention to heal.
>You can pretty much wander anywhere in the world and the only plotline will be an ambition that you choose for your character. The plot will then pretty much focus on achieving that goal although new goals can also be picked up.

We should try to organise a meeting between the leaders of the soldiers and the townsfolk who have information regarding the woods. Discuss tactics, figure out strengths and weakness and how best to organise our forces.

Collecting your haul of new gear, you Expirment with them. They're quality weapons, their balance is excellent, nice keen edges, solidly built.

You closely examine your spear. You had the armorer have a smith look at it.

last thread the order called a war council that you attended.

After conculting you they came up with a plan to march the army into the woods without having to deal with the feykin constantly attacking and picking them off while they search for the lich's tomb.

The sorcerer Pyrrhus is going to use his magic to 'walk' a wall of fire to burn down a massive swathe of the forest, thereby clearing a path for the army to march in force.

Your job is to stay by the sorcerer and protect him. The forest beast will be forced to attack head on at your full force rather then fight comofrtably at their leisure. Then you be able to quickly find the tomb by buring the forest and once it's found you'll siege and infiltrate it.

>Balanced weapon

Wielding the spear, thrusting it experimentally, you notice it's balance has been improved. You can feel that shifting the weight of the spear to attack is considerably easier now.

Nice.

"Alexandros?"

"Yes."

One of the order's soldiers approaches you.

"Pyrrhus has finished with the potion."

You follow the soldier to Pyrrhus' tent. Within you see that the wizened old man with a cup of steaming liquid.

"Here boy. Drink this, it will make you swifter of foot and more agile, but be warned imbibing a magic potion is intense."

Taking the cup in hand, you gulp it down all at once. Considering its made of at least in part of ash and blood it can't taste good.

Immedaiately you feel very warm. Your muscles and skin tingle, and your limbs grow lighter.

Then you feel like someone has lit you on fire. Then you feel like someone is jamming needles into your body from every concievable angle.

Face down on the ground in pain, you are surprised that stay concious. Eeventually the agony subsides and you stand, weary and agitated.

Pyrrhus thows a rock at your head.

"Think fast boy!"

Before you can shout at the old man or duck yout hand lashes out and catches the rock.

"Please don't do that. I'm not feeling well, also catching a rock is hardly a good test to see of the potion worked."

The old man chortles.

"I know it worked, I can sense the magic coursing through you. I just wanted to throw a rock at you to see your reaction."

You glare at the old man before leaving. You father said something once about sorcerers. You think it was something about their grasp of right and wrong.

>Your dexterity stats are now level 2, 4 degress of success possible and +10 to dex related rolls

Gathering your gear and waiting outside the town, you wait for the Sorcerer to begin the burning.

Once you see Pyrrhus exit with some large brightly painted red jars you and your companions follow in his wake with some other soldiers.

Pyrrhus stope at the edge of the forest before raising his metal rod.

You vaguely here mumbling coming from the old man before he touches the top of each jar with the rod before he yells.

"Burn heathen trees! Burn you malignant forest! be returned to the hell from where you came!"

The pots shatter and fire surges across the forest fence. Moving along the border the flames rise and begin to become deeper and hotter.

The heat from the flames is enough to make you sweat in your armor and hurt your eyes.

The sorcerer, keeps his rod aloft in the air, mumbling to himself as he begins to walk forward.

The wall advances and only clear ashen ground remains, not even some seared undergrowth to meance your army.

Your company follows as closely as you can without risking being burned or getting heat exhaustion from the flame wall.

Pyrrhus' stride is surprisingly quick and your army advances into the forest at a brisk pace.

The firewall does its job well, and despite moving for hundres of feet, The old sorcerer seems unburdened by fatigue.

Your senses pick up something strange though. A screeching noise, from above.

Turning you gaze upward you see large eagles riding on the wind. Their large wingspan indicating that these were not the ordinary variant.

"Mr. Alexander. Those aren't birds." Spitha whispers to you.

"Form on the sorcerer the beasts are attacking!"

You impose yourself between the eagles as they zero in on your location.

Their flesh changes and soon their shapes drop to the ground. Two hairy men with horns and crooked hoofed legs.

Their eyes are blank and pitch black. They smile revealing sharp teeth. They don't speak, but they rather bray and snarl, digging their hoofs into the ash and snorting.

Blood howls in your ears, and your anger spikes. Disgusting creature, so arrogant to think it can break your will with mere words?

As the others warp and transform you plant your spear and loose the iron javelins on your back.

Despite their near liquid states two of them land solidly on the one that turns into a bear. One of them seems to pierce the heart, although the creature remains standing.

Phillip to his credit targets the sorcerer but the naked abomination dances around his arrows, laughing.

The assembled creatures advance. Sir Ector stands beside you.

"Good day to smite evil eh boy?" Caliburn smolders in his hand. The sun glares off of his brilliant steel armor.

Indeed it is a good day to smite evil.

The ogre and the bird both attack Ector, but his stalwart defense is not breached. His shield keeps the talons of the bird at bay, and the wide swing punches of the ogres are unable to land as the knights ducks or sidesteps the clumsy strikes.

Looking at the giant eagle circling over Ector, you hurl insults at the shapesifted monster to draw its ire.

"You make for a convincing eagle! Did your mother elope with a rooster!"

"Shouldn't you be eating rats and vomiting pellets or something?"

"If birds were mutts you'd be a mix of a turkey and a bin chicken!"

The bird screeches and swoops down you, but you are already waiting for it.Getting away from the bear and nymph witch you jump and bear hug the bird, pinning its wings. With all your might you attempt to crush the beast, casuing its bones to audibly pop.

Just as you feel the bones of the eagle begin to break, thebeast is able wrest itself free of your grasp. Flapping its wings wildly to get back into the air.

Caliburn augments his strength but beyond that he is just very strong, his age hasn't really affected his abilities much. In sword and sorcery type settings old age isn't always a handicap. Conan kept on adventuring even after he aged a lot.

The bear and the eagle tem up to attack you, not that they so much, you get a few more cuts but beyond losing some blood their attack means little.

I posted earlier if you could grapple damage it below 25 it would die. It had 27HP left and with your damage post it would be at 6 and it wouldn't be able to fly and lose its defense bonus.

But its dead now you crushed it in a bear hug and tore its head right off.
>>
>>2624431
Oh. well if we already killed it I think we should try throwing our last javelin at the witch before we wrestle the bear.

As the eagle attempts to rake you with its talons you take hold of it and once more crush it with a bear hug, this time you pulp the birds body, feeling the sharpened fragments poke through skin to reveal ichor. For good measure you wring its feathery neck and tear its head off.

Noticing that the witch is unprotected you throw your last iron javelin, but once more the witch slinks by and avoids a possibly fatal blow.

>>

Right? I feel like combat might be ableto be streamlined abit. I like numbers and crunch but I am not sure it fits well with this type of quest. It worked better in TT due to the more 1v1 nature of the fights...

>>2624704
You both have a point

One of the reasons for this quest was to work out some details for a homebrew d100 system I'm doing for a campaign.

But quests by nature are not given to long encounters and lots of rolling.

We'll finish up this encounter but from now on enemies will usually be grouped up as one unit to take down, with your allies you'll just roll for them collectively.

The hiss of Phillip's arrows makes electricity run up your spine, Two iron arrows plant themselves into the Witches black heart.

Her screams are inhuman, a mess of conflciting noises, hisses, roars, screeches almost as if the beast's form cannot decide what shape it is before the witch melts into gold Ichor.

Only a golden puddle and the rod it carried remain of the naked abomination.

>ogre at 32HP
>bear at 67HP

Alright since the crunch in this quest has been to close to an actual rpg session and that is not well suited to a quest like this, I'll adjust accordingly so the actual quest can progress.

battles with multiple opponents will be like this

Enemies depending on type will be grouped together, for instance a group of wild animals will form a unit that will collectively take damage, or a group of soldiers will be a unit or mob. Officers, alpha animals, sorcerers and true monsters will individual targets.

Your allies will just be controlled by me and before battle you can give me instructions to follow or guideline for their behavior also during your turn you can use the write in to give me commands.

Too avoid adding an extra vote, you'll just decide how you want to attack and I'll just pick a target, but with the write in option (which I will always put down now) you can target specific monsters/enemy groups manually if you wish.

You dodge
With the witch and the bird dead, the momentum builds for your victory.

Phillip and Ector score more blows on the transformed ogre, Phillip even pierces it with is arrows despite its armored skin. And caliburn continues to hack at its flesh without any indication of getting dull.

The bear, now alone charges at you. Wrestling with the beast you pull at its paws and bend it forward until you can wrap your arms around its upper body, with its face in the dirt.

That telltale sound of bones groaning tells you that you are hurting it, but the beasts sheer size and strength allows it to throw you off. You remain on your feet but the bear has the opportunity to swipe at you.

But its slow due to bleeding and the lazy slashes are easily avoided.

What do you do?

I'll give it to you, this bear is near death and you've done a good job of wrestling with it.

>You crush the bear's ribs and head drag the fucker before power bombing it to death.

You solidify your hold beforetwisting your body and draging the bears head along the ground, its massive body and legs flail to put you off balance but you use its own weight bearing into the ground to resist it.

Rapidly changing you grip youhave the beast above you with your arms crushing its pelvis in a hold before bringing it back down to earth with a stone smashing crash.

The bear explodes into gold Ichor.

Looking for your companions you see the ogre blindly pawing for Ector due to the arrows in its eyes.

One last sword strike severs the ogre's head and then the corpse turns into ichor.

Fey are strange otherworldy entities that possess a natural dispositio for magic and have the ability to shapeshift and copy the attributes of countless beings.

Ichor is a mystcal blood like subastance that has a plethora of magical properties that can be used for almost any purpose as a base for magical potions.

Want more strength?
Want more vitality?
Want to move faster?
Want to gain better senses?

Ichor when combines with another ingrediant will do the job.

People frequently hunt and kill fey not only to remove the threat they pose but to use as a magical base substance.

Also it does in fact make more a really good comestic product. You can use it as sunblock, moisturizer and hair gel/conditioner.

Increase your grappling and hand to hand skill, and you'll be a master of pankration in no time.

Also as a nerd lesson

>Pankration is a mixed martial art form developed by the ancient greeks that combines wrestling, grappling, and kick/boxing into one martial art. The greeks used it as a back up tactic if they were disarmed in battle and it had its own competition in the panhellenic games. According to myth Heracles and Theseus developed it.

The wall of fire burns deeper into the forest, with the giant tree being consumed entirely. You'll have to tell Pyrrhus about how impressive his fire sorcery is, he's been burning for hours and barely looks winded.

As the march continues, runners from the army report that incursions from the forest monsters and animals have finally dissapated, casualties are minimal and Aulis believes that they are drawing closely to the tomb.

You agree bec ause as you advance you see that the trees are becoming rotted and dead. The branches have withered and the undergrowth is rotting and foul. The sickly sweet reek of dying plantlife irritates your nose to no end, and the horses are getting spooked something fierce. Ector places a mask with sweet smeeling flowers on the horses and covers their eyes to calm them.

"I've been in this kind of place before, the affects of the undead taints the land and animals are scared half to death by it. Gotta distract them or they'll start to freak out."

"I sense It! It is here! CONSUME ALL WITH HOLY FLAME!"

The sorcerer raises his arms along with his voice and the firewall, begins to burn out of control. The inferno advances without its master and spreads before suddenly dissapating.

>You have arrived at the tomb of Theophilus the beloved a king of Pelas.

The tomb is quite large, a broad stony building with a tall doorway that cuts into the ground and goes downward. The blocks of stone that construct it are taller then a man and the doors are brass, although they are covered with an absurd amount of corrosion that almost makes it impossible to tell what material its made off.

A pale green glow emenates from within and whispers scratch around in your ears, like hungry rates that try to eat through a wodden barrier to devour clean food.

Nothing exits the tomb, no surge of undead greets you, the Lich does not come charging out with a legion of the damned at its back.

You stand in near silence, the army behind you is likewise cowed by the auspicious sight of the tomb.

Suddenly Aulis's voice carries on the wind and the army spring into action. Orders are given, and the army begins to use the pre-prepared stakes and stones and shovels to dig earthworks and barricades around the tomb until it is enclosed on all sides. The soldiers array themselves and order themselves into defensive postions with archers and infantry taking up key postions in the barricade near the tomb's entrance.

Aulis calls for a rest. The storming will commence tomorrow at noon when the sun is at its most high.

What do you do while you wait for the assault?

You lost some HP, but you didn't take any "wounds" which are the result of taking a 100 from an enemy or getting a 1 on defense. You will regian your health overnight since the damage wasn't extreme.

>Check up on Ector
I'm alright boy, the ogre was a pain but nothing I haven't faced before. Fighting monsters is my business after all! Phillip helped out plenty as well.

I have to admit I'm impressed. You Acheans have some pretty string archery, nailing the eyes of an ogre in the middle of battle is pretty hard, and then you were there wrestling a bear! Heard you Acheans loved wrestling, crushing and throwing a bear? You striplings are always trying to push yourselves. Take care to not hurt yourselves in the attempt!

>Check up on Phillip
I'm right as rain. None of the beasts hit me, but I'll be honest, all this fighting is getting to me. Alwayys worried something is going to come out of the shadows to try and kill you, and those nymphs (*sounds of disgust intensify*) Seeing a woman turn into an ogre is one of the most repuslive things I'ver ever witnessed. That one that stayed a woman also bothered me. Her voice felt like it was stabbing me, like it was putting needles into my heart. I've never felt magic before but I feel kinda sick and cold even though I didn't even get hit by iy. I can only imagine how you feel? Are you okay Alexandros? I mean she tried that twice to you didn't she or it or...you know.

It's always there since your usually use it with your primary weapon so just use it so you can start parrying.

Also oarrying with your shield is a reaction so it won't take up any of your actions during your turn in combat.
>>
The evening passes with some vigorous training. Ector takes out a strange looking and very tall wooden bow.

"In my native land this is called a longbow, its made of wood from the yew tree. Its a real bastard to draw on account of its size, but a bowman trained from childhood is dead hard with one in hand and if you get a good force of longbowmen they can stall heavy cavalry with a storm of arrows. Here try to draw it and I'll try to point out any imperfections in your form."

For several hours, the knight tutors you in the nuanced method of drawing and firing a heavy bow. One of his most most important tidbits of advice is correcting your method of releasing the arrow. Now when you loose the deadly dart you notice its trajectory is considerably neater and smoother.

His tutelage with the shield does not take root though. You suspect its because he wants you to hit with the face of the shield and not the edge, which is most likely do to the different style of shields you carry. The hoplon is a circle as tall as it is wide with options to slam the edge into an enemy with a horizontal slam. His tall triangular shield seems more fit for straight forward strikes.

Retiring for the night you rest at ease despite the danger that the morning brings. Phillip snores and Ector dozes after cleanin Caliburn. Spitha after spending the day remaining out of danger sleeps covered by a small cloth on your pillow. You should ask him more about the undead in the morning.

Arising at first light you and the soldiers of the order aseemble before the main barricade facing the timb's entrance. There has been no sally from the Lich's lair but chances are that the disgusting atrocity is just waiting for you to enter its home turf.

Do you ask anyone any questiosn before you get your assignments?

I wished that they were capable of suffocating. That way we could just leave a huge fire at the mouth of the cave and hope they run out of air to breath.
Ask the leader of the religious soldiers if he has any idea on how to approach this. This is our first time fighting undead.
>>
>>2628658
>Aulis military expertise
Undead are an exceptionally difficult opponent to face on the battlefield.

They are fearless and their morale cannot be broken no matter what, only a direct command from the necromancer or lich controlling them will make them change course. They have no wants or needs, they cannot be starved or agitated with conventional strategies like cutting supply lines or nighttime harrassment, or a long term siege.

The only way to truely defeat them is to meet them and destroy them in battle.

Before we begin any attempt of storming the tomb we're going to light a large fire at the mouth of th structure. Normally we do this with dens of dangerous monsters to suffocate them without a fight but in this case we are using the smoke to fill the tomb in hopes that it will reveal any secret passages nearby. The smoke will fill the tomb and smoke will eventually pop out of a passage if it exists, then we'll investigate and block them.

We block them because those secret passages are trapped beyond belief and meant soley for the lich or necromancer to escape and no one else.

Sfter the fire and smoke dies down we'll form a vanguard to make the probing attack into the tomb, with Pyrrhus to use his magicaly attuned senses to tell us where the lich may be located.

>what works on undead

No special tools or magic weapon is needed. But with undead you need to know what you're dealing with.

The durability of undead is variable, but typically their relative strength and durability can be determined once you get a good look.

Resurrected corpses are the most fragile, as their partially rotted bodies have merely been reanimated with a minimal amount of effort. Hacking them apart will drain the magic quikcly and desroy them. They won't be that hard to kill.

Skeleton creatures are stronger. Runes and spells are carved into their bones and a sickly green haze emenates from them along with the red flame in the empty eye sockets. These undead are stronger and more durable because more magic went into their creation. You'll need to hack, crush and pierce the bones a great deal to finally break the magic guarding it, and once you do they will then turn to dust.

The more powerful undead are those undead that seem to have a transparent spectre of their former selves around the skeleton. This souls have been trapped and forced to serve the lich. Unlike the others these lich warriors are just as skilled and usually stronger then when they were alive. Watch out because those lich warriors have the cursed blades.

Then they're are more abombidable things, like corpses that have been fused together and undead versions of larger more dangerous creatures.

Undead giants are a nightmare on top of a nightmare.
>>
>>2628743
>Then they're are more abombidable things, like corpses that have been fused together and undead versions of larger more dangerous creatures.
Getting Tabletop flashbacks. I always loved those things but my GM would never let me make one. Not even as a Black Cleric.
>>
>>2628743
Besides fighting with the shields and the mace, I can't think of any better way to fight the first two tiers of undead. Well besides picking them up and beating other undead with them. They're dead so shouldn't they weigh less if most of the fodder rotted away most of their flesh?
>>
>>2628743
I can't think of anything, so I guess more practice of we get started with the fire?
>>
>>2628776
>>2628780
The corpses still retain most of thir body weight, but the skeletons are light, but the magic they hold in their bodies can be used in strange ways, increasing their weight to avoid being thrown wouldn't be out of the question.

Gnerally speaking all of your weapons are viable options against the undead and beating them to death via pankration is also viable. Just do what you think will work.

For most of the undead damaging their body drains the magic in them and if the magic runs out they typically burst into dust or ash.
>>

>Novice Spearman (2/5)+2-(4/5)

While the preparations for the assault are underway your join Ector in some spear training. The spears power comes from a solid lightning fast shift in weight to bring all of the power onto the spear's tip. Ector helps solidify your footwork and the best roll to turn your hips to maximize your thrusting power.

Then he said something about your future wife being happy about that. You suspect he was being bawdy so you just took the advice and remained silent.

Once the sun was at its height the general call was made and the vangaurd is assembled.

"Alexandros if you would we would appreciate your help in the initial assault, Pyrrhus has complimented that you and your companions are quite steadfast in battle."

Looking at the entrance you you see that the order's heavy troopes have arrayed themselves before the open door. With such a large force you feel comfortable joining in. That and it wouldn't sit well with you if you just stood back while the fighting began.

"I will join you hust show me where I need to go."

Aulis shows you your place in the battle line with Ector beside you and Phillip mutually guarded with the skirmishers and archers as your armored column marches into the deep.

Descending in the musty unnaturally cold gravesite you unit advances down a single long and broad hallway. Once you reach the end of that hallway, you enter a massive square room, flled with carvings and statues, all broken and worn down and covered in corruption of some kind.

"Three paths....hmmmm. I sense there are threats along all 3 paths, but the lich is not directly on any of the three."

Pyrrhus scratches his chin in though before whispering to Aulis.

"We're splitting up into 3 units, choose a path to advance upon until you reach a dead end, Pyrrhus will brief you about what may lie there."

Ask about a path?

Pyrrhus points toward the center path.

"There my scrying has shown me the kings final resting place. Theophilius was a good man an well regarded by his people. I do not doubt that the lich would attempt to corrupt that place. A mighty king being turned into an undead is no small thing, but a long dead body cannot be reanimated. No lich is so mighty to pry the dead from Ur-Paran's grip at least not without being slain on the spot and being thrown into the pit of torment for trying. So you have no fear of facing a lich king. But be wary if that path leads to the lich's inner sanctum you will encounter powerful undead."

You party gathers into its column and you begin your strong march to the king's final resting place. You've never heard of a Theophilis, but maybe that's because he's very old, so old that only great scholars know of him.

The further you go down the path the mustiness and smell of death grows stronger. Eventually you see a faint gree haze in the distance, before you see that a formation of armored undead marches upon you.

Despite the torpor that engulfs you, you cannot allow your comrades to fight without you. Fighting through the curse, fighting through the mob of undead you charge forward, with your arms outstretched.

You slam into the wall of undead and send them flying. You take one of the flying skeletal warriors and slam it down head first into one of its comrades and smash both to dust.

Leaping through the air you flatten several other and throw together a long strong if body locks that crushes them even in their armor.

Nothing can stop you now, these undead jerks have nothing that can halt your torrent of hot blood.

Running roughshot over the dead, your forces finally crush the lich warrior force into dust and bone splinters, leaving a straight path to the king's resting place.

Tallying up your successes
HtH: +1 (3/5)-(4/5)
Grapple:4 (you got x2 successes because of the crit (8/20) for Adept Grappling.

Loot:
>30 portions of undead bone ash (you'll need to ask Pyrrhus what properties it has for sorcery
>+100 Exp. (I forgot to give exp for the 2nd fey encounter so you got a grand total of +150 Exp.)
>(190/300) EXP

Thanks for playing anons, I'll be posting Titanic tournament on Saturday at 2PM EST like normal.

At this rate you could probably compete in this worlds equivalent of the panhellenic games if you keep up your grappling gains.

Have a nice night, also if you have any questions you can ask them.

Also did any of you know that I did a boxing oneshot on here? I get the feeling I didn't properly announce that or it was so boring that it just lost steam very quickly, leaning toward the latter, I didn't put enough flavor or character into it.

I had no idea, I think this is the first of your quests I participated in.

Anyway, I don't really have any questions besides what we should do about our wound? Use our medical supplies I guess?
>>
>>2630306
Yup, it will heal in 12 hours, althought the sorcerer can speed it up for you as well as remove the curse on you.

>first of my quests to participate in
That's nice to know

What do you think of this and Titanic tournament? If you've looked at it that is.
>>
>>2630317
Haven't looked at it desu, I'll see about checking it out on suptg.
>>
>>2630317
I saw the boxing one but I didn't read it yet.

What do you guys think of the quest's I run, any critiques.

I imagine one of them Is I run these things a little too much like it were a game I was playing IRL. Too much rolling and stats considering how casual this board typically is. Burying a quest in lots of rolling and stats I imagine isn't very endearing.

>>2630345
I enjoy it personally, but I'm used to Tabletop games.

I don't have any critiques.
>>
>>2630345
Honestly, I don't mind the dice rolling. But can you keep up with it on your end?
>>
>>2630526
I can keep up with it just fine, I really should have a paper next me whee I should make a running tally on everything but keeping track of the rolls and the stats isn't too hard, so far everything is on track, and if nothing else I can just keep a running tally by having a piece of paper or a word document to record all the stuff that happens to make things work.
