Rachel and Harita’s Quarters, XCOM HQ, North America

“The hell are you doing in our room? Geddout, girls only!”

Rachel’s drunken rambling is ignored by both you and Harita, barring a concerned look from the fellow Assault. You have a perfectly good reason for being in the pair’s room. You had helped Harita drag the MEC trooper to it. Rachel was already a lightweight before she became a MEC and the augmentation procedure has just made it worse. You’ll chalk this off as official squad leader business and wanting to look after your team. Definitely not anything else. You shake your head, such is being squad leader.

Their room much like most XCOM living quarters is rather spartan, but there’s still a few touches of personal effects here and there. From the various materials and tools to maintain Harita’s sword to Rachel’s old Alloy Shield leaning against the bunkbed. The pair have lived long enough that it’s starting to become more lived in and not in a constant state being ready to be replaced. That can’t be said for some of the other rooms. You push the morbid thought aside, turning to Harita. She had asked if you had anything else to say, which you do.

“How are you doing, Harita? Are you adjusting well to your new position?” You ask her.

You don’t outright say that she’s Strike-1’s ‘Squad Mom’, mostly because it wouldn’t be a productive conversation. You know she’s been making an effort on keeping tabs with everyone in the squad, but you don’t know specifics.”

“Um, it’s going well?” Harita says with a slight smile. She’s not a particularly good liar.

You cross your arms and give her your best officer look. You still haven’t gotten it as perfect as how your old Captain or Rook could do it , but it’s passable enough.

“I feel like I am not as effective as I had hoped.” Harita sighs. “The others do appreciate it and usually don’t mind me interrupting whatever they’re doing, which I am glad for, but… it gets somewhat awkward from there.”

Harita looks like she just wants to leave it at that but you don’t lay off on giving her the look.

“Stop bullying Hari…” Rachel grumbles.

“I don’t know what to say besides showing a blanket concern for their well being. Perhaps I am just overthinking it, but it is still rather debilitating. It makes me want to take time by myself to contemplate things, which is the complete opposite of my… ‘role’.” Harita finishes, a bit embarrassed still at outright saying her current title and position in the squad.

>Harita IS overthinking it. She’s doing just fine.
>You think she might want to speak with a few people outside the squad and how they see her. She's always been fine with you.
>She should be more open to the rest of the squad in general. Opening up will make things easier and more comfortable for both parties.

“I think you should start getting to know other people outside of the squad.” You suggest. “Before I was even really an official member of the team you had got along well with me.”

“That is true, but you seem to be more of an exception… no offense!” Harita says hastily.

Huh. Come to think of it, you always were able to get along with people easily. From rallying those convoy survivors when rescuing Van Doorn, coordinating with Jimmy and the others in Gangplank, and finally with the Council security team last mission. Odd, but you push the thought aside as you’re focused on Harita.

“Thanks but it shouldn’t just stop at me. The other soldiers are pretty easy to get along with.” You say. Maybe Rachel had a point with the teasing you overheard her.

“I… suppose so.” Harita sighs, still unsure but not denying it.

“Consider it an assignment then.” You say. “Branch out and get properly acquainted with some of the other soldiers. Strike-6 is pretty friendly, I think you’d get along with their Engineer pretty well.”

Harita slowly nods, idly tugging at one of her braids. She’ll give it a go. You’re pretty sure Jimmy was trying to get Q-Tip, the Engineer, to open up as well. A win win, perhaps?

“There’s just so much to take in sometimes here in XCOM. You and Rachel have adjusted so very quickly in the group, especially considering how we had found you.” Harita says.

“How is she doing? Is she adjusting well to… y’know?”

“...She’s happier.” Harita says truthfully. You relax at that but note she’s omitting several things.

“Is that it?” You frown.

“No.” Harita admits. “But she asked me to keep some things secret, she called it… ‘girl talk’?”

Damn. You look over at Rachel again and observe her. It was so easy understanding her last time, but now… not so much. Objectively she’s more like her usual self before Vegas, but is there something else?

>Have Harita tell you more. Order her if you have to out of concern for Rachel's sake.
>See if Harita can give you something. She doesn’t have to tell you outright but anything would help.
>Drop press Harita. You can ask Rachel yourself direct to get an answer, hopefully.

“Ah, gotcha. That’s basically air tight, no way in hell I’m get in between that.” You say in understanding. You’ll just speak with Rachel sometime if there’s ever an issue, the last thing you’d want to do is talk behind her back. Or in this case talking right beside her while wasted.

“I’ll let you know if there’s any serious issues.” Harita reassures. “But, I do think she’s doing better.”

Good. You feel better at that. That however doesn’t last long as Rachel suddenly starts cursing, thrashing around a bit on the bed. You snap towards her alert, is something going wrong?

“Argh-- stupid-- fuckin’--!” Rachel swears as she squirms around, her robotic limbs being caught up in the sheets. An annoyance only amplified by her alcohol state. Oh.

Harita hurries over to assist Rachel, attempting to removing the sheets with a bit of difficulty and moving to remove one of her limbs. The MEC trooper is not making a good case for herself and is being more stubborn than usual. You frown.

“It’s not that hard to remove the limbs you just have to-- oof!” Harita is swatted away by a very annoyed Rachel whose all tangled up in blanket.

“Friggin’ limb holes!” Rachel complains as her long hair is tangled over her face. She blows on it repeatedly so she can see, her cheeks turning redder from the effort.

“Hey, I can help.” You say getting worried over the sight. You wonder what other inconveniences the other MEC Troopers have to deal with, but you might be steering into an ableist mentality. Though, with how much ass a MEC Trooper can kick… dammit you’re getting off topic.

“Uhh… alright!” Harita looks sheepish. “We need to get the blankets off her, focus on removing the limbs, or calming her down! The process isn’t too bad but--”

“She’s making it difficult.” You frown as you move over to them.

Alright, you know what you gotta do. You move hover on top of the squirming Rachel, lower the bit of blanket that’s covering her face a bit.

“Hey! Look at me.” You say, snapping your fingers to get her attention.

“Grr!” Rachel babbles incoherently. You take it a step further and move to shake her shoulders a bit to really get her to look at you. She looks at you clearly frustrated at a few things in particular.

You definitely know that feeling.

“C’mon now, Bandit! You’re way better than a bunch of stupid blankets. We need you to relax so we can help you out here.” You press, trying to get her attention with her old nickname.

As you try and get her to calm down, Harita’s working on getting the caught up limbs untangled and removed. A challenge considering the anxious MEC trooper. Hopefully you can get through to her!

Rachel is unfortunately not listening to you and at this rate she might turn a shade green and really make a mess of things. Harita still needs her to be still enough so she can get her sorted. Thinking quickly you come up with a solution, a very very unpleasant one for you. You don’t even know if it’s going to work but desperate times call for desperate measures. You take a breath to compose yourself and then open your mouth.

Woof.” You say.

“What are you--” Harita looks of utter confusion is cut short as Rachel actually does freeze her eyes widening as she stares directly at you eye to eye.

“Again.” Rachel says -- way more sober than you expected.

“I-”

Again!” Rachel demands as she starts to thrash again.

God dammit!

“Woof! Woof woof woof!” You feel yourself die inside as you continue to bark. Is this some sort’ve twisted torture? However judging by the stupid grin on Rachel’s face it’s… doing something.

It’s then she that stops you dead in your tracks.

Rachel reaches her robotic arm up towards you. You blink thinking she wants you to pull her up to a sitting position only for her hand to swat it away in disapproval. Instead, she reaches for your head and knocks the ballcap right off.

She then begins to pat your head.

“...” You have no words.

“Yesss...” Rachel says in satisfaction with a big dumb grin on her face.

You don’t know how to feel about that.

The distraction is just enough to get Harita to finish her job and remove three of Rachel’s robotic limbs and get the blanket in a more comfortable position. She doesn’t remove the arm thats patting your head, well, ruffling it now.

“Good… boy...” Rachel says, tiring out now that she’s actually comfy. She finally lets go of your head as her remaining arm flops onto the bed on top of the blanket, which shouldn’t cause any issues. Despite only having one limb… Rachel looks oddly satisfied.

You look over to Harita, whose several shades redder from the whole ordeal. You stare at her blankly.

“S-S-She needs one arm to put herself t-together in the morning s-so--” Harita stammers.

“Don’t worry about it. It worked and that’s what matters. ” You say, shaking your head at the whole thing. You look around for your hat.

“Yes…” Harita says at a loss for words.

It takes you a moment to find your hat. You pick it up, settle your somewhat ruffled hair, and slip it back on your head. You… could probably spin this somehow if you were creative, probably. Though, it’s more likely the rest of the squad would eat this up like the hyenas they are. You’re still dealing with the fallout from that one crazy night, the last thing you need is to add more fuel to the fire.

Still, it was nice seeing Rachel in a good mood.

“I think she’s finally asleep.” Harita looks relieved.

“Finally.” You nod. “Oh right. Before I forget, do you know where Naru’s been? She’s made her presence scarce for a while now.”

“Ah, well, she’s been spending most of her time practicing for her re-evaluations as well as visiting the science department on a few occasions.” Harita explains to you.

You’re about to ask if you know why the Rocketeer would spend time there instead of Engineering, until you remember what Dr. Vahlen’s been cooking up for some time now. Gene Mods. The other side of the coin involving XCOM’s use of MELD. You have an idea of what it’s capable of and while not as immediately drastic of a change as becoming a MEC trooper is… some of the mods you had read up on are as fairly extensive in their own right. The science team has yet to reveal that at the moment to the rest of XCOM, probably the same deal with the MEC division.

“Thanks, Harita.” You say.

“You’re welcome.” She replies back, smiling softly. “Is there anything else or…?”

“No, that’s it. Cya tomorrow, Harita.” You say as you start to take your leave.

“Good night, Dozer.” Harita answers back kindly.

You take one last look at the now passed out Rachel. You instinctively straighten the cap on your head with bemusement. Stepping out of you the pair’s room Harita gently closes the door behind you.

You let out a tired yawn as you step out, having ignored your own fatigue for the time being until Rachel was seen to. Being an XCOM soldier can really take it out of a person. Blearily, you make your way towards the showers to get yourself more comfortable before hitting the bunks. The process to getting to your bed is a green fog induced blur as you go through the necessary motions. You idly consider that the Commander would want the mission report sooner or later, but honestly that could wait until the morning.

Evening rituals complete, you trudge back over to your room. Zhang, your roommate, is already present and is asleep himself. Your bed calls out to you invitingly and you more than happily oblige. You crash onto the bed and let the soft (but not too soft given this is still the military) mattress envelope you.

Before you even realize it, you’ve already fallen fast asleep.

Something interrupts your blissful slumber. It comes without warning. A flash of purple.

You sense a presence in the blurry void of memories that is your mind. It’s uncomfortable and almost choking as you feel yourself become dragged along by the crushing sensation. Jerked about like a ragdoll as if yanked from the bottom of a pile of toys. You know this strange incomprehensible feeling, this would be the third time now. First you had sensed it after you and Rachel were picked up from XCOM. The second time, after the hell that was Las Vegas.

The intruder is back again, wiggling its way into your mind. No, not wriggling. Kicking the door open and making it your mind it’s new home, and there’s nothing you can do about it.

It probes your mind again, trying to ascertain information and memories in your mind. It’s process is slow and methodical, as if in absolutely zero rush. All the intruder is missing is a hot cup of coffee and some relaxing music with how calm it is with it’s invasive process. But, why would it rush? It has fully dominated your mind. It start’s digging from the top, sifting through your recent memories, particularly regarding the battle that’s the most fresh in your mind. It pushes aside thoughts regarding your teammates with an air of indifference.

The intruder forces you to replay the battle in your mind, as it watches keenly. It seems to be looking for something. It ignores the little bit of control you have left as one would ignore a fly or insignificant speck.

Alarm flashes in your mind, what if it keeps digging? What if it finds important information -- like anything involving XCOM? Like the location of XCOM HQ? What if this is a Sectoid Commander? You know those exist and it’s one showcase was that they were extremely powerful.

You wonder why the intruder hasn’t looked for that information yet, does it not care? Why would it not? Is it looking for something else instead? What? There’s too many goddamn questions and you are getting sick and tired of having your mind be a doormat to this damn thing.

You need to get it out, and for once you feel like you should try and fight back. But how?

>Reach for that well of rage and anger within you and use that to fuel an assault.
>Bide your time and wait until it’s really distracted, you might be able to kick it out when it least expects it.

I think we all know what it's looking for, it doesn't care about info when they could easily kill all humans. No, it wants to know what makes Dozer special. That's pretty clear, it's Dozer's Rage. Every time when he got angry enough from seeing his allies hurt and die, he could beat the shit out of any alien, and I think it's time to fight back with every bit of Righteous Anger Dozer's got!

No more. You are done letting this thing try and fuck around with your mind. Not after today, you have had enough surprises for the evening! As the intruder watches the mission you were in hours later, you begin to pool together than anger once again. You don’t have to do it with much difficulty either as the intruder is currently watching when the first clusterfuck began, the moment where Sweet was shot.

You pull from that well within you and draw more emotion to it, replaying that split second feeling of helplessness and guilt for Sweet taking the plasma bolt and not you. Fucking Thin Men and their cheating aim bullshit!

That well within you eagerly comes forth and you feel yourself get jerked around again, except this time it’s of your own accord. You get swept up into it, like a hurricane and just as quickly you launch yourself at the Intruder as you sense it’s amusement over how Bannon had acted.

Like as if you Running and Gunning, you charge right at the intruder with an explosion of emotion. A burst of high octane adrenaline. The moment it senses your presence you are already crashing into the Intruder with all of your fury!

You collide with the Intruder like a tidal wave of red. The Intruder is hit hard and is dazed but isn’t torn apart as you’d hope. It’s reeling sure, but it's more surprise than anything else as you can see it’s already preparing to react. The thing is fast, and clearly has experience. It’s a lot more powerful than you are but you have several advantages. This is your home turf and you have the jump on him but most importantly…

You have the momentum.

In a great clash you unleash impact after ferocious impact at the Intruder, not giving it an inch to breath. You know the moment you slip or hesitate is the moment it could turn this all around and eradicate you, so you don’t let up. You pull from that well of anger within you greedily, demanding more and more with each of your assaults. The power within you gladly obliges you, the source of the power seemingly limitless within your grasp. The previous times you’ve reached out to this well you’ve only dipped yourself into its waters and mostly on accident, pulling away just as quickly. Each time you do so leaving a shred of doubt and wariness to using it again. Unsure of the consequences of fully committing to drinking from the well. Not this time, however.

You lash out at the intruder with the steady and pounding rhythm of a shotgun. With each strike you pull back for a fraction of a second allowing that anger build up pressure before unleashing it out in a ferocious blast of destruction. You’re not wanting for ammunition either, much to you immense satisfaction.

The Intruder quickly pushes back hard, not giving up and letting you be the one to run rampant over it. Much to your frustration you know you can’t destroy the Intruder, it’s manipulation and understanding of this is power is much… much… more limitless than yours. You won’t be able to outlast it either. You need it out of your mind, that you should be able to accomplish. You don’t think to much about the possible risks, as you’re to busy sending strike after strike after strike at it. Steadily, you begin to push it back to the edges of your mind. It seems to know what you’re doing however and clamps down hard.

Like a stubborn rock in the middle of a river, it digs in and refuses to be moved.

Try as you might, it won’t fucking budge.

It’s then, you have a moment of clarity. A true moment of clarity. The previous times you’ve tapped into the potential of this power unlike at this moment you were missing one key factor that led you truly be a force to be reckoned with. The well of anger within you can truly be unleashed the moment you let yourself go. Let the manipulation of such power become almost primal.

There an instinctive fear of losing yourself to that anger even as you relish in it. You know that energy wants to be free, it demands it from you. Somehow, you know you could really lose yourself for good in that fury. But it’s the only way to do damage to this thing. So be it.

You let yourself go.

Your entire vision and senses bleeds away as everything is replaced with a radiant and vibrant purple. It’s brilliant, a power so pure and mighty you can’t help but feel humbled as you are given the chance to wield it. You know what it is, even if you haven’t all your life until now.

The Gift.

It’s then that your power is amplified and you feel yourself become undone by The Gift, deconstructing you at your very being. Ripping you apart not from a molecular level, but from your very soul. You let it do so and channel as much as you can before you feel yourself slip into nothingness from the raw overwhelming power. You hold onto that rage you have, a lifeline that saves you from being consumed by the purple storm before unleashing it right at the Intruder.

Like a giant storm of raw energy it surrounds and engulfs the Intruder whole.

You sense legitimate surprise from the Intruder as it gets battered by the rift, glimpses of it’s mind coming through. It knew you had some form of attunement to The Gift, but it never expected you to learn it so quickly. This wasn’t part of it’s plans. It’s too soon, far too soon! You feel yourself grin in your mania as you take great joy from throwing a giant fucking spanner in the thing’s plans, whatever they are.

“GET OUT!” You roar and with one last mighty push fueled by the energy flowing through your very being you shove that thing right out of your mind. Slamming your mind shut from any unwanted interference for the foreseeable future for good measure. If anyone wants to come in they better damn well knock and let you know.

You bask in that violet luminescence for a while feeling a part of something much bigger, something cosmic. But you can’t stay for long, lest you truly become lost. In fact, you know you won’t be pulling that stunt you did just now any time soon. You won’t be here again for a while. You enjoy as much as you before you reluctantly pull back.

In a snap, the door to that other world slams shut. Leaving you completely and utterly drained.

It’s then at that moment you wake up, panting heavily and feeling immense exhaustion. It’s as if you ran through multiple marathons at once and did a mission or two afterwards, your body is completely spent. You feel like you're barely being holding yourself together as any more exertion could very well cause grave injuries or worse. You sputter a cough, blearily raising your head up to look around you. It’s difficult, as if your head is made of lead.

You realize you’re not on your bed and instead are sprawled out on the ground in the center of the room. The hell did you get here? You scan around and notice the entire room is an absolute mess, the lights dimmed and… flickering? Your eyes try to adjust to the messed up lighting, your mind randomly going to wondering how the hell XCOM’s maintenance technicians had missed this glaring electrical problem.

It’s then you see Zhang. You’ve never seen the man crack under pressure in the short stint you’ve known the former triad turned Gunner, hell, when you first met the guy he didn’t seem to mind much that a whole army of his former buddies were out to murder him. This time however? It’s different.

His back is to the wall, and his eyes are wide with shock.

“W-what…?” You barely sputter the words, your voice hoarse.

“Purple.” He says slowly, speaking in awe. “You were... glowing purple.

Welp, like the Ethereal who had just dealt with that this has definitely throw a spanner in my own plans for the quest due to the power of RNG, but hey, that’s XCOM baby! The aliens and other parties will certainly be escalating things after what just happened but so will XCOM in reply. It didn't really surprise you when they had put you in alien containment after you woke up. It wasn't like you could do anything to stop them. You could barely move or mutter out a reply when the pair of Blueshirts quickly dragged you out of your room and took a series of back passages that led you to alien containment.

They were nice enough to give you a chair at the very least. Still it was rather surreal as you sit there watching a more collected but still rattled Zhang attempt to explain what had happened to the Command staff. Shen looks concerned, Bradford looks uneasy, Vahlen looks intrigued and the Commander…?

She's staring right at you.

The Commander is appraising you personally. The upside is that she doesn’t look venomous. On the flip side, she’s not all warm smiles either. You have no idea what's going on in her head, and that's extremely worrying.

Sitting there, you attempt to move your body a bit and find only middling results. You manage to raise your arm up a bit before it slumps back down like a limp noodle. It’s not impossible to move but it feels like there's weights on your limbs. You might not be making a great case for yourself if you are just sitting there like an idiot, or maybe you should just stay put? It’s quiet in the containment cell, so unless they wish to speak to you over the PA system it’s essentially one way.

At the very least, you at least know personally how that Muton and any future alien will be in this cell. It could be worse but it isn't great.

With the Commander watching you, you feel like you should try and do… something.

>Try and stand up. Sitting here is getting unbearable.
>Attempt to speak up. If you can communicate you’re still you maybe things could go smoothly.

The hell is wrong with you? The Commander is waiting for you to do something, and you can’t just sit here on your ass. You need to salute her like any other XCOM member would. Being stuck in a glass tube and turning purple shouldn’t even come into the equation!

With difficulty, you force your arms onto the back of the chair and force your body to stand. The initial exertion of effort is a solid start and you even manage to get your butt off a few inches from the seat only to be met by immediate failure as your arms give out and you plop back down. You swear angrily, which comes out as a bleary grumble.

The Commander raises an eyebrow at this.

A tiny voice speaks in the back of your head that you could just salute while sitting down. It would get the same idea across and be easier. While very tempting, you decide to keep trying a few more times before doing that. You refuse to half ass this.

Taking a moment to catch your breath, you raise your wobbly arms back onto the back of the chair and begin pushing yourself to stand. The next attempts go as well as the first. You must look like an idiot to the others. However, Slowly but surely, you manage to get yourself high enough from the chair that all you’d need to do is push hard enough to let gravity and your legs do the rest of the work.

Here goes nothing.

You push yourself off of the chair. The force is enough to send the chair toppling onto the ground on it’s side, no turning back now. You lurch forward like a pendulum, your head spinning and a part of you distinctly notes this is definitely worse than that hangover. You will your legs to not collapse on you. They buckle wildly in very angry protest but like your arms, they hold.

The Commander is now keenly interested in where you’re going with this. In fact, the other command staff and Zhang are watching as well, their muted conversation halted to observe you.

You’re standing now. With one last burst of energy you snap your arm up into as crisp of a salute as you can damn well make it. Your entire body wants to collapse now but there’s still one last thing you need to do. Looking the Commander dead in the eyes with as much conviction as you can hold you open your mouth.

“Commander!” You say as loud as you can, your voice hoarse and strained.

Vahlen is immediately confused by this and the length you seem to have went to accomplish this. Shen rubs his head, in the same boat as Vahlen but more understanding of the implication. Bradford shakes his head... but doesn’t look as hostile of you, muttering something you can’t tell given the soundproof glass. You have no idea what Zhang is thinking.

The Commander? She’s still watching you, the final judge of this whole act. You hold that salute under her gaze for what feels like hours, which is compounded by your aches and pains. It probably was at least a minute or two, but you can’t tell. You almost give up until you catch a smile tug at the Commander’s lips. With a nod, she allows you to be at ease. You almost didn’t realize at first.

Oh. You’re relieved. You promptly fall onto the floor unceremoniously.

“Ow…” You croak.

You lie there and stare up at the top of the alien containment cell for while until you hear the entrance open and Zhang appears moving over to help you up.

“Huh…?” You mumble your gaze following the Chinese man as he approaches you, blinking in confusion.

“The Commander has requested me to take you out of Alien Containment.” Zhang explains in that curt and reserved manner of speech he has.

“...Really?”

“Yes.”

“Nice.” You mumble as Zhang helps you up, letting you lean on his shoulder, you’re really glad to be out of that chamber. Zhang takes note of that but doesn’t say anything.

You can’t get out of the chamber right away as it takes you a moment for the airlock decontamination process to complete. You frown as you look over to see how stiff and uneasy Zhang is at the whole thing.

“Are… you alright?” You ask over the noise of the decon chamber.

“I don’t know.” Zhang admits.

You frown at that, and search for something to say. You come to the realization that despite him being your new roommate after Babbler was died that you never really had the chance to get to know the former criminal much outside of small talk or practice. You’ve always hunted down criminals in some fashion but you’ve never got a chance to really get to know one besides them either at the end of your barrel or in handcuffs. Suffice to say, trying to talk is more awkward than you realized.

“I will be watching you from now on.” Zhang says seriously as the decon process starts to finish. “If I sense there is anything wrong, I will not hesitate.”

You can tell he isn’t kidding. For someone in his former profession, you make promises you can keep or face consequences. You aren’t too in tune with how the Triads work but there’d be some overlap in comparison to the Cartels. You nod to that, taking that to mind as you are led out into the rest of the facility room. Looking about, you can see it’s a skeleton crew running the facility and there’s a squad of Blueshirts deployed and stationed about. This time around the security guards are… taking things rather well. You guess with all the constant surprises and shuffling about has helped them a bit. Things are always pretty busy in XCOM.

Off to the side you can see the Command staff quietly discussing among themselves as you are led to them. Bradford is clearly not happy about this and you can see him holding the arc thrower in his hands. Vahlen and Shen are more neutral on the matter and seem to be discussing things. The Commander herself seems to be in a good mood and is attempting to reassure Central.

“...Speak of the devil, there he is.” The Commander says turning to look at you with a reassuring smile on her face. “Sorry about that, Dozer. Better safe than sorry, but Moira had to confirm there was no more external psionic interference. There isn’t.”

You note that Bradford frowns at the 'devil' part.

And neither does Dozer

Good Assaults don't overthink too much, I guess.
>>
>>2605418
He hasn't really had time to think. He passed out after fighting off an Ethereal. He doesn't have the meta information you have about tech trees and XCOM's full capabilities. All he knows is he got The Gift, but can't utilize it on a whim.

“Ma’am.” You say as calmly as you can. You want to try and be as professional as you can given the circumstances.

“Let’s get straight to the point.” The Commander says, taking note of your attitude. “We’ll start from our perspective. Central?”

Bradford nods, keeping an eye on you the entire time.

“The incident started earlier this evening. Nearly two hours ago.” Bradford begins, hand still holding onto the arc thrower. “Base sensors reported strong psionic activity in the barracks, the base was nearly placed on yellow alert if not for the fact the readings disappeared almost immediately after detection. There was a possibility of a false positive in the reading due to the sensor equipment still being relatively new. A security team was dispatched to the location and found the both of you. Specialist Zhang was shaken by the event, and judging by the state of the room and his explanation there was confirmation psionic activity at play. You were immediately brought to alien containment and the incident was kept low profile until a further investigation could be made.”

“As soon as I heard, I came to verify things personally. We confirmed there was strong trances of psionic activity coming from you.” Dr. Vahlen says, regarding you. “However, the remarkable thing we noticed upon observation of you was a distinct lack of psionic damage. Most documented psionic attacks leave some form of mental or physical side effect. Examples include sunken eyes, pale skin, or mental trauma. You received no such damage besides extreme fatigue and exhaustion and you seem to not be shaken… which is very interesting.”

You nod slowly to that, keeping your mouth shut. You’re a bit surprised Dr. Vahlen and the rest of XCOM could check on Psionics, but you guess if anyone could be able to understand psionics in some level it would be XCOM. Plus, there’d be no way to contain the little grey alien for study. Shen remains quiet, considering things. The Commander motions to Zhang and he steps forward. He’s completely composed himself now, that unease you saw in the man seemingly gone or pushed away for the moment.

“I was awoken by something hitting me. When I had opened my eyes, I had noticed the entire room was illuminated in purple. Many objects in the room were hovering and circling around and at the center of the room was… Dozer.” Zhang stops for a moment, speaking deliberately. “He had fallen onto the ground at some point and was glowing. He was the source of the purple light. He continually thrashed about for the duration of the episode, similar to having a seizure. And then it was over just as quickly as it happened. The whole incident lasted a few minutes at most.”

(Part 1 / 2)
>>
So that’s what you were like while you were under? You thought after such a glorious moment for you it’d be somewhat more… dignified than what it sounded like. Especially considering you now have The Gift, which you know is very important. You’re still not sure how, but despite the exhaustion all you have to do is think about how alive you felt while you were under and how… utterly gratifying it was beating the shit out of that Intruder. Maybe if you could explain about it, they’d understand. But how?

There’s also the possible security issue and mystery of the Intruder, even though you’re pretty certain he’s not going to be prodding your head any time soon. Still, you might not be the only person was being probed by the it. Finally, there’s also your… anger issues. Though at this point you wouldn’t even call it an issue. Still, they’re going to find out about it in your report or from others sooner or later, and it’s related to everything.

“So that’s what we know so far.” The Commander says. “But, what about you Dozer? What exactly happened back there, do you remember anything?”

You should probably be careful in how you explain things and what should be prioritized.

>The Intruder. It all stemmed from whatever that thing was and it’s threat.
>Your Rage. From Arizona to the Seekers, you can’t ignore that part of you now and they should know.
>The Gift. That’s what it all comes down to, the true potential and its possibilities.
>Other.

>I'd have to say it all started back when I first joined X-com. Something, brushed against my mind and I beat it back. I didn't even realize what it was until last night. The next time was with that snafu with the Chryssalids. Something poked my mind After Rachel screamed. I chalked it up to stress and fear for a long time friend. It came to a head tonight. An alien, tall, gaunt and powerful tried to take up residence in my mind. Completely ignoring the recent mission details it was flipping through my head looking for something. That pissed me off, so I got angry, as angrier even than when I pummeled that seeker to a pulp. Drawing deep,so deep i let my rage consume i grabbed onto something. Something purple. Psionics. I tore open a rift in the mind space that thing occupied, and threw it out of my head and barred the way. It was screaming about me being too soon, far too soon. I could have been lost in that power but I pulled back, and woke feeling like I had run hell week in the course of a day.

First and foremost, the alien invader. Make sure they know exactly what we saw they were doing, and what they were NOT looking for. They need to know that they have ulterior goals that aren't about killing all humans.

dude we're just voting on which to tell first, not make a summary of everything at once.

which segues into how we dealt with said Intruder by getting really fucking mad utilizing

>Your Rage. From Arizona to the Seekers, you can’t ignore that part of you now and they should know.

which somehow unlocked

>The Gift. That’s what it all comes down to, the true potential and its possibilities.

We should also make it clear that even though they'll have to take our word for it, the Intruder cannot get back into Dozer's head because of the mental security that's now up.

In that order

Nope, I’ve been rereading the quest, our first mental encounter was after the Arizona drug bust.

This is the key. Talking about us being mad and gifts won't get much traction. But a psionic alien spying on X-Com? That's something even Bradford will pay attention to. Everything else can come after.

Well this is a bummer but I wanted to finish up the thread with one last post but I've been busy all day and I'm heading out to do more shit again. Going to have to call it here and pick things up on tomorrows thread, apologies again for keeping folks waiting.

I'll see you guys tomorrow!
>>
Next thread soon!

Like tomorrow soon?

EXALT broke in to his PC and stole all the hertzes from his processor
>>
>>2612846
Whoops! Forgot to inform the thread as well, but yeah, computer issues like what the other anon said. I should be alright to throw up a thread sometime tomorrow, but we'll be flying casual.

Apologies!
>>
>>2613018
>flying casual.
I'm not a native speaker, what does this mean ?

>flying casual
Google it. seems to mean be calm under pressure, or in this case do the session even if there are difficulties.
>>
>>2613041
I did, the first results didn't match, and its a less common saying. Good job being a asshole.
>>
>>2613050
He explained what the phrase means in this context and wasn't even rude about it so I don't think he was being an asshole.

To clear things up, when I meant flying casual I meant that when I throw up the thread it won't be like a usual Friday session and be one constant run for several hours. Updates will be a bit more spaced out due like the rest of the week the thread runs to being busy on the weekends on my end.

To throw something up to make up for computer fuckery, here's an unfinished piece on the Muton Captain in Gangplank in all his captain-y glory. I have a bunch of unfinished XCOM art for this quest it's a bit silly!

Here's another behind the scenes piece, the Las Vegas Terror Mission was going to be on a lot bigger scale before I toned it down, here's the map for it before I just isolated it into just one casino.

Jesus, that would've been a nightmare.
>>
By the way, are you planning a night mission somewhere along the line or would that be too complicated ?
>>
>>2614340
Maybe we'll get to experience the Newfoundland mission during night. A town full of zombies and chryssalids and who knows what else could be lurking in the shadows. Could make for a good horror story.
>>

>Newfoundland
>With our luck

No pls...
>>
>>2614648
I'm sure we won't run into long war-style giant chryssalids.
