Superheroes were once thought to be a thing of fantasy, comics and cartoons for children to read and laugh. But that all changed with the arrival of Scion. On may 19th 1982 a crashing passenger flight over the Atlantic was saved, held aloft and flown to safety by Scion the first hero. Ever since that day sometimes, in your darkest moment. When your worst nightmare becomes reality. Something breaks inside you, and from that break comes Power.

Your name is Barnaby Campbell, and you've long since given up hope of that though. Your father's beatings aren't enough and the abuse at school isn't enough, you've long since accepted that you'll never be part of those chosen few.

Speaking of abuse at school, you pull yourself up from your position on the floor of the boys' bathroom in Winslow High. Brockton Bay was a shithole, and Winslow was the worst of it. What once was a good school had fallen from grace due to a dearth of funding, and twisted into an abattoir of the mind filled with the stupid, poor and violent.

You happen to exist in the second category, which makes you prey for the other two. As with most days you need a strategy. You have to avoid your tormentor Declan (A neo nazi wannabe and recruiter for Empire 88, a white supremacist crime gang with a shitload of supervillains.) at all costs.

What's your plan?

Personally I think the quest could have still worked if you went a bit more wild instead of sticking with what you got, like introducing enemies from other earths like Earth Shin or something like that, and we had so many good moments that it feels bad that went to waste. But anyways I'll be sticking around and see if can make as much of an impact again.

Controversial choice, but I respect it. We got out of scale for the setting pretty quick. Given how hard you were shotgunning those threads, I can see how it might've gotten away from you.
>>

Nigga you don't seem to understand, when I say made of lightning I mean you're physically lightning. You have a human form but your insides are lightning. Riding bolts, generating storms, lightning grenades, bio healing, the whole nine yards man. If lightning isn't your thing then, Particulate Control. Like Sand Man but better cause you can control more than just sand.
>>
You know what would be cool? If we got Scarecrow powers this time instead of Jokers.
>>
Declan Burrows has been your worst enemy for two years now for two reasons, firstly he's convinced that your voice alone makes you gay and secondly you happen to live within Empire territory. Those two things have given him reason to kick your ass over and over for so long that your family doesn't even notice the bruises any more, and even frequently broken arms aren't enough to garner support from the faculty.

They're terrified of the Empire, and he makes it well known that Hookwolf owes him a favour for something.
That's got to be bullshit though, no way he has that much pull. It'd be like you saying you had Armsmaster on speed dial.

[Armsmaster: Head of the local Protectorate, a team of government endorsed superheroes. Also your personal favourite.]

But you don't, so you'll have to take matters into your own hands.

You keep your hand in your pocket as you walk from class to class, gripping your shitty pocket knife tightly as you keep an eye out for your tormentor. It's in between second and third period that he makes his move, cornering you on your way up to English on the top floor.

"Hey! Queer. I'm pretty sure the third floor has a no fags allowed policy. Breaking rules gets you punished you know? I'm a responsible member of society, so I can't let this go on without doing the right thing."

He steps in close, and you back up, bumping against the wall.

You try to steel yourself, but you've never even been in a proper fight before. You flinch and step back as he takes another step in, then he buries his fist in your gut. You take the kicking as best you can, which considering all of your experience is actually quite well. He's not as strong as Father, nor as angry. He doesn't break either of your arms this time either, clearly he's had a good day so far.

It's a good five minutes or so of getting your ass kicked however, and you're late for class when you do manage to drag yourself off of the floor. Thankfully not even the teacher asks what happened. Mr Welks can be an asshole sometimes, but at least he has the decency to feel bad and not punish you for what happens.

It might be a concussion, but time flies quickly and you soon find yourself grabbing up your books as the bell rings. Shuffling up and out of your seat as the students around you head out of school.

You can't go home, not yet. Father works nights, so he'll be back and awake for a few hours at least.

The boat graveyard usually has cool stuff in, you even found some of L33T's old tinkertech there once and sold it for nearly a hundred dollars.
Go hang out on the Boardwalk, distract yourself with superheroes and window shopping.

You make your way down to the old docks, there's a guy who sells homemade hotdogs down there that you've been dying to try for ever now. The old roads are cracked and pitted, surrounded by graffiti-ed buildings on all sides.

This area doesn't see the Protectorate often, they can't hold back the Empire with the few capes they have. Even if they could, the ABB would step in and fill the gap.

[ABB: Azn Bad Boys: Another ethnically focused gang, this one being for asian people. Only has two capes, but their leader Lung beat the entire Protectorate team at once to establish himself in the city.]

The city's mostly already lost by now, only being kept afloat by the money from the Boardwalk which coincidentally happens to be the only place that the heroes patrol with any regularity.

Eventually you find yourself in a small square surrounded by old shops. Market Square used to be bustling, a second Boardwalk near the docks where fishermen and other workers would come to get food and buy cheaper than they could get at the more upscale parts of the city.

All that's left now are two old book stores and Dave, the hotdog vendor.

You step towards his stall at the back of the square, you can see five or six other people around as you head up and prepare to make your order.

You're distracted from your order by the sound of something whistling through the air, luckily having the survival skills of a Brocktonite leads to you diving left as a large blue blur slams into the stand you were just about to order from.

You scramble away from the ruined stand as Armsmaster pulls himself out of the wreckage, blue armour torn and scraped. He's coughing up blood and waves you away as he unsteadily pushes his way to his feet.

"Get...[hack]...back, I've got this. Run!"

You stand and stare for a second as he pulls himself up.

But you're quickly brought back to reality by the hideous sound of metal scraping against concrete. You turn and see exactly what'd do something like this. Hookwolf.

A giant wolf shaped mass of swirling steel needles and hooks stalks down the street towards the two of you, the other citizens are either watching from a safe distance or making as much space as possible.

[Hookwolf: has been previously described, but is also a member of Empire 88]

Armsmaster falls forwards when he tries to stand, blood leaking from his mouth and spattering on the ground as he tries to breathe. It doesn't sound good.

Grab him, he can't fight like this and Hookwolf kills Heroes whenever possible.
Run, you can't do anything of use here.
Distract Hookwolf, maybe you can buy some time.

There are no pictures I can use for Hookwolf in his wolf form. I'm mad.

You stand between Hookwolf and Armsmaster, looking around desperately to try and find a way to distract the giant chainsaw monster. In the end the only thing you can see is Armsmaster's halberd, lodged in the steel remains of the hotdog stand. You tush over as Hookwolf stalks towards you, the screeching of steel almost sounding like a slow chuckle. You pull on the Tinkertech weapon, falling backwards as you recover it from the wreckage.

"No... run...don't..."

You ignore the pained groans of the Protectorate leader as you charge forwards, halberd raised above your head. The Nazi supervillain seems surprised by your valiant efforts but swiftly recovers, lunging forwards with a sickeningly feral laugh. The two of you meet in the centre of the square. You strike first, and at first it seems pretty good. The Halberd buries itself deep in the wolf's steel hide and bites deep, eliciting a pained roar.

That's when it all goes wrong.

Hookwolf seems to flow around the embedded weapon, hooks and spikes rushing forwards and up your arms. You can feel them shredding the flesh and bone as you're slowly and inexorably drawn into the body of the wolf.

And you black out from the pain.

One of the best things about gravity manipulation as opposed to bog-standard telekinesis is that you're limited by the rate at which you can accelerate objects, not by the amount of force you can exert on them, which means that you can levitate objects no matter how large they are, while max speed varies from object to object depending on their terminal velocity, which depends on their mass and aerodynamic properties. Cool shit.

Also, you can pull THIS trick:
"From Szeth’s perspective, the hallway was now a deep shaft down which he was falling, and the two guards stood on one of the sides. They were shocked when Szeth’s feet hit them, one for each face, throwing them over. Szeth shifted his view and Lashed himself to the floor. Light leaked from him. The floor of the hallway again became down, and he landed between the two guards, clothes crackling and dropping flakes of frost."

In your panicked state there's only one thing you can do, so you pull on the feeling, bringing it up to the forefront of your mind.

The exertion of it nearly blacks you out, but you feel your body cool as you fall downwards, the hooks disappearing from your body as you hit the ground. You open your eyes to a particularly strange sight.

Your body has been covered with a strange black field that seems to suck in and stretch anything it touches, you can't see through it to what's beneath. It almost looks like you're wearing armour. The only thing that doesn't seem to be covered is your eyes.

After a few seconds You look over to Hookwolf, who has a large you-sized hole in his wolf form. He stirs and slowly begins to push himself to his feet as you try to do the same.

Eventually you manage to push yourself up as well, staggering backwards as he sways on his four legs clearly either injured or very tired.

His hooks still spin and move, but there are large parts of his body that seem twisted, stretched and warped in ways that you're pretty sure his power doesn't do.

He looks more hesitant now, he's pacing back and forth, clearly furious but wary given your new getup.

Then he leaps.

Plan?

The colossal beast lunges forwards, snarling and howling with bloodlust as the car sized chainsaw monster hurls itself at you bodily. You pull yourself to the side as it flies past, twisting and reaching out a black armoured hand.

[BARNABY OST: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-I0TLN2yLYI ]

You miss on the first attempted grab, but you stagger after him and manage to get a hold when he lands. His leg curls and twists around your hand, with the hooks bending and stretching as if they want to cooperate with your grab. Hookwolf screams as his leg shatters, twisted into impossible shapes by the field around you. He pulls away and the whole damn thing comes off, pulled straight off.

It's not a clean cut though. A long, thin stretch of leg trails after him as he retreats to a safe distance and limps around you, the confidence he'd previously displayed gone. You stand next to Armsmaster as the racist bastard paces back and forth, not nearly so cocky now that his leg's gone.

Try to Intimidate him, he's clearly on his last legs.
Go back in, all you have to do is touch him.
Try and get the armour off of an arm or something, you need to get Armsmaster to safety, quick.

Rather embarrassingly, you shortly discover that Hookwolf is very fast.
You leapt forwards, your arms outstretched in what you imagine to be a rather heroic looking pounce. Unfortunately Hookwolf decided to stop simply running into your outstretched arms and dodge, greatly reducing the effectiveness of your "Black Hole Wrestling" style. He leaps around and roars at you before running back up the street, he makes good time for someone as hobbled as he is and it'd be difficult for you to follow.

On the other hand, Armsmaster is facedown in a puddle of his own blood seemingly exerting all of his energy on simply continuing to breathe, he might need help with that.

Then on the entirely hypothetical third hand, you're starting to come down off the adrenaline and the pain is coming back with a vengeance. Also you can no longer see out of your left eye, and you can't feel your hands.

Also you've just fallen over and are blacking out from blood loss.

You grit your teeth and force yourself back up, staggering to your feet as you see the other members of the Protectorate approach from the square's south entrance. Miss Militia and Dauntless are at the head of the pack, with several PRT troopers trailing behind them. You can also see an ambulance pulling up.

That's nice, you could probably do with an ambulance.

They're approaching with some caution, but they don't seem to be too scared. Miss Militia moves in first, a heavy duty pistol clasped in her hands. She stops at about two metres before lowering the pistol slightly. "Hey, you mind if we grab Armsmaster there? We've got a healer coming in. We also have backup on the way if you're a villain, I don't think I've seen you around so don't be offended, it's just in case."

She looks back between you and Armsmaster while the PRT officers move in and grab him.

"Thanks, now if you'll excuse me I have to be going." be cool.

"Don't suppose I could get some of that medical attention? I'm kind of bleeding to death here, pretty sure that's bad."

She looks surprised for a second, then quickly nods her head and gestures towards an ambulance. "Yeah, sure. They're for public use. We were honestly expecting a lot more collateral damage from Hooky so we've got some spare. It's a shame we couldn't bring him in though." She stares at you for a second before continuing. "Or was that a polite way of asking for help?"

"Yeah, I can't even feel my legs. Let alone move them."

She lets out a short laugh at that, and goes to grab you by the shoulder before you warn her.

If we can project this power away from us I wonder if we could use it to fly by continuously falling towards a moving black hole. I know it would be the power equivalent of flying by lifting yourself, but with powers it seems that the laws of physics are more of a suggestion than anything absolute.

Shitty MsPaint to illustrate.

These are already good uses of the black body Breaker form. As the Tinker powerset we had pre-reboot, all we did was cut shit with alloy cards, have godlike acrobatics, make some good walls, spread joy and laughter to small children, and mutate stuff (read: ourselves) horribly. I have faith that Zion managed to figure out how to write better or do stuff better this time around, especially while being out-of-commission due to food poisoning.

You stand there for a moment as you try to force your power back under your skin, at first it's rather difficult but you quickly begin to feel your body hum with energy. It almost feels like you're a battery, and the energy inside of you refills when you reabsorb the armour. You're hit by the severity of your wounds once your shell is gone, falling to the side as your legs fail you. It takes you a second to notice through all the pain and blood loss, but once you do it shocks you back into consciousness. Your arms are gone, not fully or cleanly cut but torn and shredded beyond any use. You only have bloody stumps past your forearms.

In the movies revelations like this always cause the character's mind to go blank, or they bear it stoically, never letting their inner turmoil show. But you're no action hero, so the freaking out is entirely understandable. You can feel someone drag you towards the ambulances as shock sets in and the pain overwhelms you, tears running down your face as you're strapped down and fussed over by the paramedics.

Mercifully, the doctors inject something into a ragged tear in your chest and you swiftly fade into blackness, you last memory being Miss Militia's shocked stare.

You dream of collapsing stars, and a predatory hunger.

It's unknown how long it takes for you to awaken, but eventually you come to in a hospital room. You're wearing a mask on your face and a medical gown covers you beneath the bedsheets. There doesn't seem to be anyone else in the room, but there is a red button on the table next to your bed.

The rest of the room is all sterile white tiles and sheets, that bleachy hospital smell curling your nose as you breathe it in. Apart from your bed, there is very little else in the room, and even the window is covered with thick blinds.

Try to get up, you have to find someone.

There are no mirrors in the room, a realisation that brings some trepidation. You quickly look down and take note of the many changes to your anatomy. First is your arms or rather your lack of them. You already knew of course, but your heart rate skyrockets and you almost freak out when you really comprehend the damage. Most of your actual forearms have been salvaged but your hands are just gone, amputated at the wrists. The rest of your body is better, but better doesn't necessarily mean good. Your legs are heavily bandaged and strangely thin, much thinner than they could be.

At least your genitals are all right, that could have been bad

It's difficult checking yourself over with only stumps to manipulate the sheets and gown, but you manage with some frustration. It's only a few minutes before a nurse comes to check on you. She enters the room quietly, but gasps when she sees that you're awake and stops for a second or two before speaking.

"Oh, right. You're awake, I'll just go and get the doctor then. Please don't uh... black hole anything while I'm gone."

She's gone before you can really formulate a response to that, back out of the door and clearly hurrying down the hallway outside of the room as her quick footsteps indicate.

A few minutes later a tall doctor comes through the door, clipboard held in his hand. At first you're a bit sceptical because he looks like Ivan fucking Drago, but his nametag says he's a doctor so whatever. He's probably a cool dude.
"Hey buddy, good to see you awake. You took a hell of a beating back there." He leafs through the clipboard now, giving it a once over before turning his attention back to you. "Good news is, we've got Panacea coming in soon so you should have your arms back pretty quick. We took care of the other injuries when you got here, Medhall's good at what we do. Anyway, just thought I'd come in here to finish up some paperwork. We usually ask for names, but you're a cape so we'll just stick you down as "Unidentifed parahuman" unless you've got a name already that is."

Actually, you do.

This guy actually does seem pretty chill so far, it kinda makes you feel bad for not coming up with something seeing how enthusiastic he is. "Nah, sorry. I was kind of busy fighting at the time, and then I was freaking out. Unidentified does me fine."

He asks a few more questions after that, mostly concerning things like whether you were allergic to anything or any negative reactions to stuff. Because as he put it. "Turns out that Assault's allergic to one of our painkillers, we had to get him here once and if he hadn't made that public in an interview he might have died. So it's best that we know for the future, you get me?"

You respond in the affirmative, luckily you aren't allergic to anything and you don't have any preexisting conditions (apart from lack of arms) so it's over pretty quick. He leaves after a while, with a quick smile towards the nurse who's replacing your IV. You haven't got much else to do, so you mostly just wait until Panacea gets to you.

It's actually a few hours until she turns up, and the first thing you notice is how tired she looks, jesus.

[PANACEA: A member of New Wave, and one of the driving forces stopping the city from falling into total economic collapse. Has the power to heal any injury known except for brains which is attributed to a mental block, and certain rare cancers. People come from far and wide to pay for her services, but she also volunteers in hospitals.]

"Hey, you're the new guy right, who took on Hookwolf? Nice work." You nod in response to that, it's kinda cool that people have heard of you now.
She reaches out a hand, but stops before actually touching you.
"Do I have your permission to heal you?"

Yeah sure, go ahead. I'd like my arms back.

You are absurdly tall for your age, almost six foot and still growing. You're also blond and white skinned, with thin, attractive features and green eyes.

"Nah I'm good, arms were never really my style anyways." That seems to partially shock her out of her funk, dull eyes sharpening before furrowing in conclusion.

"Are-Are you sure? Really?"

The look on her face is priceless, you'd give anything for a camera right now.
"Hah, nah I'd like my arms back please. I was pretty attached to them."

"Oh god, not another Clockblocker. Fine, whatever." She reaches out and touches your stump, eyes glazing over as she concentrates. Honestly you kind of expected something to happen, she's like that for a good five minutes before she snaps out of it.
"Okay so there's a bit of a problem, I couldn't fix your arms right now. Whenever I tried to, the part of your brain that's in charge of your powers lit the hell up. So I decided not to risk it considering you're the black hole guy. I guess it thought I was attacking you or something? The good news is I think I found a way around it. They won't come back immediately, but they should grow in over the next few days. Apparently if I make slow changes it's all cool."

"Thanks, these mean a lot to me. If I hadn't already used the attached pun I'd be using it now to properly get across how grateful I am."
She actually smiles at that, before stepping back and letting go of your arm.

"Yeah, I get it. Jokes get old if you tell them the same way twice right?"

Somewhere else, she's frowning and readying a punch. You laugh.

"-ou"

You shake your head. "Sorry, what was that? I kinda spaced for a second."

She's at the door now, and looks back at you with an exaggerated frown. "Really now? I thought I'd fixed everything. Maybe you should stay in this incredibly fun hospital for bit longer, take it easy as you recover..."

You shake your head and chuckle, yeah nah, you need to get out of here.

"Sorry, I gotta go. things to do you know? People to see."

She returns your farewell before leaving, promising to send a nurse over to sign you out. It's not too much longer before you find your old stuff returned to you. Your shirt is ruined, but your jeans just look fashionable and the bandages make you look like someone trying way too hard to be cool instead of a hospital patient. On the way out, the worker who's signing you out hands you a card with the Protectorate logo on it, along with the cell number and address. "The PRT wants to speak with you once you're ready, they said you could call or turn up in costume."

Shit your mom's gotta be freaking out, a quick check with the man on the desk tells you that you've only actually been unconscious for a day, but that's still way too long.

Go home, you're in so much trouble.

You take the bus home, luckily the driver doesn't ask for your disabled bus pass. It'll be a good hour before you get close to your house, and this gives you a lot of time to think on your approach, it'd probably make the most amount of sense to just tell your mom and brother about your powers but you don't know how your Father would react. The other option would be trying to lie to them, you've no doubt that telling them that you were caught as collateral during a cape fight would work, so long as nobody's recorded your face.

You can't check yet though, because your phone is an old model and doesn't have internet access. You'll have to make the choice before you get there.

Most powers work thanks to alternate reality mumbo jumbo made by space whales, this gets explained at some point in the Queen chapter. The main example there is Scapegoat, who literally switches parts of your body to other realities. People with invulnerability like Alexandria and Scion are living portals that send damage to other dimensions. So us being a connected to our other self isn't farfetched.
>>
>>2595427

It's not murder if they can't find a body. It's just another deadbeat running away from his family. Have to eat the car too to make the story believable, but that won't be too hard to pull off.

Yes,yes, I'm trying to explain how the power works but is complicated. Eidolon killed the evil Alexandria with powers that overlap many dimensions. I'm guessing the stasis works by constantly portaling her body to some point in the past or something like that.

Eh, maybe maybe not. We got our stuff a little later in life. That helps. It's also not necessarily a world ending power yet. We're already fairly fucked, once shit really hits the fan...our ability to deal with all the crap life throws our way is gonna help a ton.

Oh thanks, for a moment there I had my hopes up about this quest.

And? We're not a tentacle thing from power experitements or a perpetual evil 12 year old. Honestly going from a semi normal pretty boy that takes care of himself, to a blackhole clad warrior sounds awesome.
>>
>>2595642
This is incorrect, you merely have his voice. Your actual character is different in multiple ways, and has had different experiences than before. Plus even old Barnaby was less joker and more heroic most of the time.

Probably something mental. Remember how we remembered the hunger and feasting on stars? The more we use it the more it wants to be used probably. Eventually our hunger will begin to override our reason, and then, well.

The destroyer will be made manifest.

We shall consume...everything! EVEN THE ENDBRINGERS!!

Cool. We almost made Hookwolf job and saved Armistice. Different Barnaby.

That sounds boring. Fighting the Endbringers sounds neat, except terribly dangerous. Good for us if we go full hero, which sounds fun honestly. But the consuming everything, including the few people we like, sounds kinda lame and edgy.
>>
>>2595674

I mean black hole beats everything, even their bullshit.

A black hole doesn't age, doesn't burn, can't be drowned ect. The only one who might be a threat is featherbitch and even she can only win through tinkertech bullshit and or ungodly strong applications of telekinesis, and even then they might not work.

So...instead we flip our weird power use on it's head. We're essentially a super defender, anything that tries to harm us and ours get's obliterated. Or very nearly. Hell we can even warn em. We're a walking Singularity.
>>
>>2595718
Yup. We're still human, so far. Time to train I say,
>>
>>2595726

Nope. They stopped hitting the "USE ME YOU UNBELIEVABLE FUCK UP" button and trying to kill their host who wasn't working right, but fucking with their heads was always a go. Hell if you use it more it would fuck with your head more because it was 'helping' you because you were such a good host and it would hate to lose you.

It's a pokemon game where you're the pokemon and the shard can only use one of you. If you're a shitty pokemon they're going to drop your ass at the first chance they can so they can train a decent one and stop wasting their time.
>>
>it would fuck with your head more because it was 'helping' you because you were such a good host and it would hate to lose you.

Just like how our power wanted us to inject a mutagen in us or that he spoked that even if we were slowly dyong that everything was fine and we shouldn't worry.

Or currently with "Another, more Powerful choice."?
>>
You're a bit uncomfortable lying to your mom, but there's no telling what will happen if your dad finds out, and he will find out if you tell either of them. You're going to have to lie about what happened.

You rehearse it in your mind, you got caught by Hookwolf and Panacea helped you. It's all cool, you can do this.

It takes a second or two to muster the courage to knock on the front door, what if they don't believe you? There weren't many other people around but what if someone recorded it.

Ah hell, best to just get it over and done with. You kick the door a few times, and wait for it to open. It's answered by your mom, and for just a second you can see her face wracked by grief. She looks at you for a second as the two of you stand there before slapping you across the top of the head.

"BARNABY! What the hell, where were you? I thought- I thought..."

She trails off as she notices your arms, the stumps covered by bandages.

"Oh god."

Oh shit, she's gonna start crying,

"Wait, mom it's not that bad I swear. It'll grow back, Panacea helpe-" And now she's hugging you while crying, you need to stop this before you start crying too. "Eh, maybe we should go inside." She sniffles at that, and slowly pulls you back inside. Once you're in she starts fussing over you, sitting you down in the living room while rushing about to make sure you're comfortable. She also calls down Mike, who's much happier upon seeing you alive and well, though certainly saddened by your sans-arm status.

You explain the situation to the two of them, although you make sure to edit out your superpowers from the situation and add in a convenient Panacea. You think you've convinced them, Mom's clearly too distracted by your injuries to cross examine your wounds, but she is relieved when she hears that they'll grow back. Until then you're stuck without arms, and at home.
An hour or so later, you're sent up to your room with strict instructions to rest and save your energy.

Father calls a few hours later, he's not coming home tonight.

It is the afternoon, and you're currently sat in your room. It's messy, but it's yours. You have a large wardrobe and a small table next to your bed.
What are you going to do for the hours you have left today?

Our only hope is either to find some alternative means of brain surgery, or convince Pan-cakes that potentially turning Rebecca's brain into a pancake isn't so bad compared to the alternative.

>>2595885
This is so unfair.
>>
>>2595880
Anon, that's not how physics works. "darkness" isn't a tangible thing that a black hole can suck up. Darkness is simply a term used to describe the ABSENCE of light.
>>
>>2595893
Well isn't grues darkness a gas?

Grue's darkness was, far as I can tell, a denser-than-air, nontoxic, nonreactive gas that absorbed like 99.99% of all electromagnetic radiation across all frequencies, and severely attenuated vibration inside it and inside anything in direct contact with it, so that even your own voice sounds like it's coming from the bottom of a well.

No, it's just "black hole spears" made me think "what, would he puke it out like Nappa from DBZ?" Then I thought, "wait would the puke be puke or a black hole?" Thrn I thought, wait if it's just regular puke, would it just get sucked up by our mask? Do we basically have a toiler built in our armor? I realize how fucking weird this train of thought was. I was just working and mulled it over out of boredom.

It'd likely get sucked up though, so that's actually a weird bonus to our powers. You know when someone shits themselves in fear? Or needing to use the bathroom at an inopportune time? No one will ever know with us, as long as we take off off our pants before we armor up. Also, people were tossing around names like Graviton, but what about Void or Devoid?
>>

We could also go Null, Nihility, Vacuity, Hollow, Dark Knight?, Black Knight?, Void Knight, a few other things if we focus less on the black hole aspect and think of the armored aspect too.

One of the cool things Worm did was make Skitter's defection to the villains natural and inevitable given the circumstances. If Barnaby, as a result of our horrible dice rolls, gets mistreated by Armsmaster or given dicks instead of hands by Panacea or murders his dad, maybe the story will flow towards villainy - alternatively, maybe life will be nice to us for long enough that we end up in the wards.

No sense in forcing heroism or villainy when we can let the story play out post by post.

For a name, how about Horizon?
>>
>>2596484

Some possible names for Barnaby's cape persona:

> Schwarzschild

> Event Horizon

> Singularity
>>
>>2596338
Why knight, though? I get that Zion's reference for our appearance is inspired by that same image, but it's not like any other person would (or should) have even the slightest chance of making those features out. Whether he's become or is a cloaked by his power, what is seen wouldn't even really be capable comprehension. All anybody should see is an ever shifting area of space with the silhouette of something humanoid. The only exception should be Barn once he gets a further understanding of his shard, but he only described it as "like" armor, and even then that was when he was in literal shock from triggering and potentially dying.

Or maybe I'm just nitpicking, because black hole armor isn't nearly as rad as being a literal event horizon to everyone who can see us, and an unfathomable void to those with powers capable of circumventing the perception altering effects of our own power. That personally why I like Hawking the best of all names given so far.

At least it’s not edgy, cringeworthy, or entirely unoriginal. Could do worse than analogue towards Barnaby himself and the perceived nature of his personal Shard. It’s also be intriguing if Zion were to implement it in the same horrific way Molecular Processing altered our genetics previously.

Just imagine that if we don’t continuously use our power to consume/absorb things. It will either gradually begin going out of control, causing it’s strength and naturally reality altering properties to fluctuate and the gradually weaken, only for the shard to begin absorbing our own matter to keep the pilot lit, so to speak.
>>

What I have to ask is whether this is a soft reboot or not. That vague recollection of infighting with Panacea seemed a bit too on the nose to just be a cute little throwback. I think in this sense, our powers should function similarly to how real black holes work; the more our power consumes, the stronger and more volatile our powers become, enabling us to fight and negate/absorb ever more powerful foes and powers/attacks. The consequence would be said volatility, leading to an ever lessening control over our own shard as it becomes increasingly unstable and powerful. Vice versa would be the exact opposite; weaker power and increasing vulnerability with the benefit of more fine control until it begins to consume our own mass to offset its lack thereof.

With one of the more dangerous abilities, and the addition that even other Entities aren't sure of its true potential, it'd suit the setting and also mesh with the Genetic Fragmentation we had going on previously.
>>
Still having trouble visualizing how this power works. I'm imaging a oblique cowl that forms over Barnaby, but does matter or energy get automatically sucked in the instant contact is made, or does it have to be consciously activated by Barnaby?
If it is the former, then why doesn't the cowl effect the ground Barnaby is standing on? Does the cowl not extend to the soles of his feet?
>>
>>2596553

You figure that power testing is important sure, but your family is a way higher priority right now. You have to do the rounds and make sure that the two of them are okay. This time, that means hanging with Mike. (Not that you need an excuse anyway, Mike's pretty cool.)

You knock before you enter his room, It's a bit bigger than yours and full of assorted knickknacks, all organised around a small TV against the wall. To tell the truth, the two of you keep most of your stuff in here as well, since Father is more than happy to break or sell things as "punishment" when it comes to you.

Mike's sat on his beanbag chair in the centre of the room, playing some fantasy game when you come in. He looks quite different to you, enough that most people don't think you're related at first glance. You got your looks from your father but he looks a lot more like your mother, with a rounder face and wider mouth. He's also younger than you by three years, so naturally he's a bit shorter.

You sit down on the other beanbag chair and start shit talking a dragon for a while, until Mike stabs it in the face with a pike. The two of you sit like that for a while, he tends to get pretty into whatever he's doing so you chill for a while before talking.

Unexpectedly, he's the one who starts actual conversation.

"So uh, you checked PHO today Barn?"

"Nah, kinda had other things you know? Why?"

He pauses at that, and looks over to you, an expression you can't quite figure on his face.
"That video of you and Hookwolf was up for like an hour before the mods took it down. I didn't know you were a cape dude, why didn't you tell me?"

Shit.

How you guys wanna handle this?

It looks like you are playing with the multiple earths idea from the original story. Essentially, have the events of the Joker!Barnaby's story have been overwritten by those of Succ!Barnaby's story, or are both timelines existing simultaneously?
The latter seems more likely given the spoiler at the tail end of the Medhall scene.

Ah shit, he probably thinks you were always a cape, and were hiding it from him. Time to nip that in the bud."It only just then dude, I didn't know I had powers either. I didn't tell Mom back then because then she might tell dad, and I can't deal with that until I've got my arms back."

"Damn dude, yeah I get that."
He's silent for a few seconds as he thinks, before his usual dumb grin adorns his face. "Dude, this is really awesome though. Not the Hookwolf thing obviously, but the superpowers thing is super cool. Do you know what you can do? Have you thought of a name yet?"

"Quiet dude, mom might hear."

"Right, sorry."
He looks kind of sheepish after your admonition, but keeps on asking a million questions about your powers most of them only capable of being answered with a resounding "I dunno" from your side of the conversation

"That's kind of weird actually, all the capes in interviews say that they knew how to use their powers once they got them."

It takes you a second to think it through, but you reckon that as long as you're careful it should be alright. You just need an open place with lots of space to demonstrate, the ship graveyard would probably be good or you could break into an old abandoned building somewhere. The old Observatory just out of town still has a bus stop nearby, you could take the bus there. It's a good two hours there and back though.

"Yeah, ok. But we have to go somewhere else. I'm not activating my black hole powers while mom's downstairs. We're gonna have to sneak out."

But where to? The boat graveyard is a massive district near the Docks filled with old rusted ships and broken down buildings, pretty much all the capes in town use it to experiment with their powers though so getting caught is a distinct possibility.
The old planetarium would be costly to get to, but it's not even in town so it'd probably be pretty safe. It was abandoned a while ago after the city grew out that way and light pollution got too high.

I'd rather not head out of town with our kid brother when E88 has a very good reason to want to fuck us up and our power is awful for hostage situations.

We also definitely need to find out to what degree the manton effect limits our power. Hookwolf is an odd example given his changer form is inorganic so that might have allowed it to be more effective than it is on fleshy targets.

They already know what we look like, and one of their lower ranked members knows who we are. As a result they could tail us to the observatory, a place where we would almost certainly be a fair ways off from any potential help or other friendly or neutral capes.

The graveyard is definitely riskier as far as them finding us, but it also has the benefit of being more likely we will be able to get help of some sort in the case of a crisis.

In any case yeah, observatory is more thematically interesting and rule of cool is a thing for a reason.

An hour or so later you and a very excited Mike are wandering around the ship graveyard with masks on, eventually you find a small clearing in between several wrecked ships and get ready. You focus, and can feel the power roiling under your skin. The strange "full battery" feeling is back with a vengeance, and now that you focus on it you can really get a handle on it. It's almost like there's a core of energy in your chest.

"Come on man, this is gonna be awesome!"

"Stand back bro I gotta focus."

You focus on the same feeling as before, pushing the energy out through your body and stretching it out across your skin. You can feel the energy field crisscrossing and layering itself over you as it draws something out with it. One side effect you weren't ready for was the sudden feeling of emptiness, you appear to have run out of energy. You aren't tired necessarily, but the feeling of power from before is gone. Most likely powering your armour somehow.

And it is definitely armour, it even feels like metal on your skin. It doesn't have uncovered areas except your eyes, even places where you'd normally need to be flexible are covered with the strange black metal. It just twists and stretches when you need to move.

"YOOOOOOOOO! that's awesome dude. "

"Yeah man, super kickass. Hey stand back for a bit, I wanna try something."
You reach out and grasp a bit of metal boat, your armour seems to pull it in like what happened with Hookwolf but faster.

You know that black holes are supposed to pull stuff in, but you only seem to affect things that actually make contact with your armour. No wait, scratch that. It does seem that your [CONSUMPTION] has a very small range, maybe two or three centimetres.

You shake your head, that's a dumb name for it, way more evil sounding than you're planning on being.

Why did you call it that?

You're shocked back to alertness as your brother continues to gush about how cool your powers are. "Oh man you even get your own special costume, this is so cool. Kinda scary though, but super cool."

Only the fact that instead of choosing to shape our armor we went with the DBz move, because anons want to "have fun".
>>
>>2597156
Yeah how dare quest players try to have fun. Some people have no respect for this sacred and serious past time.
>>
>>2597156
Yes, because being able to alter the shape of our black hole armor is more useful than the potential to develop a ranged attack early on. I'm sure black hole claws would be massively more effective than black hole fists.
>>
>>2597187
The question isn't which is better it's about which fits a Breaker Powerset that turns us into a high tier Brute. Getting more reach on attacks and the ability to unexpectedly change the reach or area effected is terrifying in a melee. Getting a death ball we can throw at our problems turns us also into a high level Blaster and is boring.

Being made out of a gravity well makes us someone that could work our way up to being a Triumvirate member. Being a person that can throw black holes at all our problems puts up there with the Endbringers.
>>
>>2597164
I know right? How dare they trying to have fun in a quest.

We will never fing out anon. It's not like we can just try and do it later. Right?

You're sat brainstorming with Mike for a while on what to do next, but he's a pretty cool guy and both of you are rather easily distracted so your conversation eventually turns to videogames and anime. You've been relaxing and shooting the shit for a good hour or so when Kairu is mentioned, and your head gets back into superpower mode.

"Oh shit yeah! I just had an idea."

"What?"
Mike backs up rather quickly upon hearing this, and places himself partially behind a sheet of thick metal.

"There's this energy inside me right?"

"Right."

"That flows through my body and allows me to do impossible things."

"Yeah."

"Maybe it's like Chi dude. I'm gonna try and channel my energies."

"Go for it man, that's sick. Go fucking Super Saiyan."

"Hell yeah!!"

You quickly take a step into the clearing and slow your breathing, willing the power within you to flow through your body, slowly picking up speed as it moves faster and faster in a circuit following your blood flow.

That actually doesn't work, it's kind of embarrassing.

So you experiment with different patterns and circuits, having the energy flow up to your head and back down again, having it diffuse equally throughout your body then slowly concentrate in various places.

Nothing. Goddamn.

So you get mad and absorb some stuff. No biggy, just working off some steam on the inanimate objects. But then you notice something.
Your Charge is filling back up while you absorb things. By the time you're finished with the boat you're working on you've almost got maybe a tenth or so of it back.

If you can push that around inside your body like Chi, why not try and control it when it's in your armour, you've never noticed spare energy before so what if that's what you're meant to do?

So you start pushing that around the armour and there's the breakthrough you wanted. you can shift the extra energy around inside your body, slowly compressing it into the armour. Then you notice the difference it's making. The more energy you have pushed into the suit past the initial manifestation, the longer the range for your absorption is. Once you've filled up your tank again, everything within ten or so feet is being slowly pulled towards you.

It also seems to get stronger the deeper into the field that they get, slowly pulling things faster and faster as they get closer. huh.

Power use discovered. [GET OVER HERE: A weak field surrounds your armour and grows as you absorb more material. ten foot at max range. takes four actions to grow to max assuming passive [CONSUMPTION] ] Costs 10 Energy.

You also decide to start measuring how much energy stuff takes beyond "all of it or none." So you assign some arbitrary numbers to it, assuming that the maximum amount of energy you have now is ten.

It really is a pretty weak field though, Mike can just walk out of it at the longest range and it has trouble lifting the heavy stuff. It's maybe a quarter as strong as you are.

So our suit empties the ebergy bank and we need to refill it by consuming stuff...dam this is a terrifying power. Imagine a guy in blackhole armor just approaching you and saying that it's still hungry after devouring everything nearby.
>>
>>2597206
Indeed, later on we can easily develop both directions assuming our power lends itself to that sort of flexibility in the first place. To begin with though a long ranged option seems like the better choice to go with.

>>2597204
'Work our way up to being a triumvirate member', really? That would kind of undermine the whole concept of it, it's not a rank that you can reach but rather deals more with the surviving founding members of the Protectorate, they didn't go and hire on new triumvirate members when Alexandria died, and having more than the three existing members kind of removes the aspect of it being a triumvirate (hint the tri part isn't there without a reason).

All of that aside, how does having a fully melee focus turn us into a potential leader of the protectorate, whereas having both ranged and melee options makes for a horrible choice? From what we can tell we aren't S-Class threat material. Not unless we can massively change how the pull of our black hole effect functions, or unless they somehow function indefinitely when created and just continue to consume and grow in which case yeah I could see it going poorly assuming we can't end the effect. Even at that point though it wouldn't put us on the level of a human endbringer.

In any case looks like we got a middle ground option which focuses on our armored state while still offering a little extra range.
>>
>>2597272
It's a complaint of the power level being totally out of control for the setting numbnuts. It happens with every super power game and I hate it. You idiots can't just have something and learn to be creative with it to break limitations. DM just gives an extremely broken variant of the ability that shouldn't happen without a second trigger because people demand it.
>>
>>2597289
Dude...in worm there is all kind of people that break the power balance. The EB and Siberian being the first things that come to my head about it.
>>
>>2597299

I wonder if our suit can eat the Siberian? As far as I can recall 'She' can't fly and therefore must be under the laws of Gravity as well right? I wonder how she'd fare trying to take on a black hole.
>>
>>2597289
Dude, this was your ranged option. You were never going to actually get any ranged powers like beams or whatever. Have a bit more faith. I like to think I can write your powers more interesting than that.
>>
>>2597289
Calm those breasts.
We have push pull and consume.
Maybe some space time continuum sensing.
Powers are all relative to us, so no consuming at distance, only pushing pulling at distance. We might be able to fly with a ton of practice though.

I mean, even if we did whats-his-face would just summon a new Serbian.
>>
>>2597311
To clarify, this anon is correct. You chose a weak push/pull as your secondary power. Barring a second trigger, that’s all you’re getting.
>>
>>2597325
No blackhole claw? I'm kinda sad but i can live with that.
>>
>>2597331
Why would we need black hole claw?

Energy concentration in our hand + grab = consume.

This is very good. Simple, straightforward, and specific.

>>2597331

Sorry anon. Looks like your Prototype quest is in another castle.
>>
Just caught up, us our powers basically Siberian's but in breaker state?
>>
>>2597342
No reason beside being cool and is we can manipulate our blackhole into sharp claws we can strech it and make it able to reach a larger distance and hopefully woth enough tunning being able to create a gravity field around our suit so we cna hold stuff without consuming everything we touch.

>>2597342
I hate that game.
>>
>>2597289
You seem to be assuming our power is much stronger than it has been actually depicted thus far. We have no idea how much matter it is able to consume, if it has any effect on energy based effects, or even basic shit like if it is manton limited or not. Calm your shit and stop assuming everyone else wants to break the game. Giving our suit claws is not exactly a prime example of creative thinking, if that's your standard for creativity then it's rather sad. Testing out what sort of range our power has, whether we can project it in ways other than our suit, and other stuff like that is important to determine what our limits are. Once we know what limitations we are working with we can focus on creatively working around them.

As far as powers go this is hardly broken in the greater sense, not compared to a lot of other wormverse stuff. It is definitely upper tier, but when there's shit with vastly greater flexibility, range, and raw power it is hard to consider this the end all be all. Our power hasn't shown itself to by physics breaking in the same sense as stuff like Foil or Clockblocker's powers, we can absorb matter but it is clearly not instant from what we've seen, something which makes it seem likely we can't do shit against the endbringers given they are made up of so much matter that it flaunts the idea of physics entirely.

>>2597305
We might be able to damage her, but even if we do 'she' is just a projection. Realistically though given the Siberian isn't made of matter I doubt we could affect her in a meaningful way if at all.

>>2597308
It's definitely a solid ranged option, assuming of course we can refine our control of it more as we progress. I'm certainly looking forward to our fiddling with this power and figuring out the finer details for how you've set it up behind the scenes even if we outright avoid anything truly game breaking. If nothing else the point that it is more fun to work around limitations than to have none at all is definitely true, they do serve to foster more creativity.

>>2597321
She actively has been shown to have control over what degree of effect gravity has on her, she can't fly but she can alter how effectively heavy she is to glide around. To be honest I doubt we'd stand a chance against her, our power as we've seen it just lacks the raw power to manage something like that. Sure we might be able to deal with Manton's actual body, but that is easier said than done. We need to remember that the Siberian is not just a powerful cape, she outright flaunts the laws of physics as she is as Taylor put it 'both the unstoppable force and immovable object'. Lets all just hope/pray that we never run into her in a setting where we can't run away.
>>
>>2597229
It's getting late, so you and Mike decide to head back home after screwing with the energy field some more, turns out it does exert enough force to bend thrown stuff into you, so that's cool. Could be useful at least for protecting people.

Sneaking back in isn't much of an issue, mom never had the best hearing and she's asleep by the time you get back anyway. The two of you say your goodnights and head off to bed since Mike has school in the morning, you're off because of your arms, an advantage that Mike laments under his breath.

You're just glad it wasn't him, you don't know whether he'd have got powers or not.

It's dark and far too late for you to consider doing other things, so you get to sleep and slowly drift off.

Dreaming of a Lonely being.

I doubt we did any long term damage, typically damage to a changer or breaker form doesn't correspond directly to damage on their real form. That said we did humiliate and no-sell his power, unfortunately that may not be good for us in the long term as he is easily the most violent member of E88's lieutenants and presumably will be eager to get revenge. Even if he can't hurt us in our breaker state, he could fuck with our family as we live in E88 territory, and there may be other members of E88 who can work around our power to kill us even if we are in our breaker form.
>>
>>2597571
Kaiser would probably tell him to sit his furry ass down because going down that road get's an angry black hole going after them and if there's nothing holding him back from the lethal option then everything that can't fly away is fucked and even if they /do/ get away the black hole has a grudge and will hunt them down.
>>
>>2597571
Besides if i recall correctly the E88 have a person who is able to restore someone to peek performance. So everything is fine.
>>
Sorry, some stuff came up so this next update might take a bit.
>>
>>2597691

No rush dude, take your time.
>>
>>2597587
True, Kaiser is a bit more reasonable, or at least pragmatic and rational. That said I doubt they would be overly afraid of us, E88 has a metric fuckton of capes relative to other groups and some of them are pretty potent. Out of their members a few of them could potentially kill or injure us like Fog (our eyes are noted to not be covered by armor and that could mean his caustic gas might be dangerous and we still need to breathe as far as we can tell which has been shown to be dangerous with his gas), Crusader's ghosts might be able to strangle us, if energy attacks can hurt us then Purity could fuck us up and if nothing else we know we don't keep light from getting to our eyes so she could fire small beams and penetrate into our skull, Stormtiger's wind might be able to cut us up depending on how we deal with raw kinetic energy, we can hear so presumably Cricket could fuck with us even if she seems to be nonlethal when it comes to her sounds, Krieg is another kinetic energy user who can suffocate people just by having them near him and actively slows them down among other effects which presumably would still affect us, and Othala can grant pyrokinesis and we might be susceptible to that depending again on how we handle raw energy and her ability to grant invincibility could also no sell our abilities as it also deals in avoiding being moved. Altogether they have a number of capes who could counter our defense, even if most of them don't work I don't like our chances and would rather not piss them off needlessly.

>>2597605
Alabaster restores himself, not others. He's still dangerous of course but he's not much of a healer and when Night can do the same thing while also being a terrifying beast in combat it makes him more laughable. Othala can grant regeneration though it seems to have definite limits as far as how much it can accomplish.

>>2597691
No worries man, RL stuff comes first.
>>
>>2597737
Nah, you’re thinking of Othala. She has a set list of powers she can give people and one of them is regeneration.
>>
>>2597737
http://worm.wikia.com/wiki/Othala
>>
>>2597737
Read the sentence after the one where I mention Alabaster, when you finish I advise sterilizing yourself for the betterment of our species, or just taking the time to read things through in the future before you rant about them.
>>
>>2597750
>>2597762
Still they have someone who can fix his arm so we only damaged his pride. Because the blackest thing ever damaged his arian nordic skin.
>>
Is anyone else expecting our regeneration to go horribly wrong somehow, or at least to not go as expected? The fact that our body actively rejected being healed normally definitely comes across as a bit suspicious, and if the idea of our power having trans-dimensional properties is correct then that could potentially fuck things up somehow given we apparently are getting memories from the other timeline.
>>
Not just from another timeline, but also from the shard itself. Or at least from whatever creature the space whales took/made the shard from.
>>
>>2597839
True, and the really worrying thing with that is that from what we saw it wasn't Abaddon but some fourth entity. That is unless we are in an alternate timeline where instead of Abaddon interacting with them more peacefully to exchange information it tried to do a 2v1 fight when it was mentioned to be smaller, granted size might not be a factor.
>>
>>2597870
Read >>2591344
>acquired from a predatorial Entity who attempted to consume them some time ago
In canon Worm, Abaddon did the equivalent of a hit-and-run, swapping shards with Eden in a peaceful manner while also fucking up Eden enough that she died on arrival on Earth. Here, it seems Abaddon did try to pull a 2v1 somehow.
>>
>The Shard itself was similar to one in their possession already
>similar to one in their possession already

Okay that is kinda scary.
>>
>>2597923
Hence my mention of a potential 4th entity, granted it could also just be down to Zion have an alternate interpretation of the event or just the different timeline route. In any case it is worrying.

The fact that they intentionally gave out one of Abaddon's shard is also rather odd given from what I can recall most of the ones from him canonically only got out because of what happened to Eden, still it has been a while so I might be misremembering that aspect. On the plus side Abaddon's powers typically were more powerful or at least had unusual aspects like ignoring the manton effect, if only because they couldn't be neutered to the same degree.

PARAHUMAN RESPONSE TEAM BUILDING: 2nd OF APRIL 2011
BRIEFING ROOM.

Armsmaster was not having a very good day, while he had managed to squeeze eight percent more features into his halberd frankly the rest of it had been exceptionally poor. His bad showing against Hookwolf clearly had the Director questioning his leadership and to top it all off they'd lost the new trigger. Colin could already hear Assault's mockery, not to mention every failure like this would bring Dauntless one step closer to replacing him. If Armsmaster wanted to stay ahead he'd have to finish one of his other projects, the new guy has given him more than a few ideas for upgrades to the Halberd's systems.

God he'd give anything to be in his lab right now rather than giving the briefing, but someone had to do it and he'd eat his motorcycle before he delegated something this important to anyone else.

The other Protectorate heroes are sat in the building, Miss Militia, Dauntless and the others, even Triumph and Velocity are here despite how they were supposed to be on sick leave.

He gave a small frown at that, while he appreciated the thought, you can't operate at full capacity while injured.
No he wasn't a hypocrite, Dragon was not in possession of all the facts.

"Alright team, good to see you all here. Today we'll be discussing the new Parahuman. You all already know how this works, so I'll start. At two O'clock yesterday I began my patrol along the border of Empire 88 territory going east up to the docks and then returning. At three oh four I was engaged by Hookwolf in an ambush and called for backup. I was then heavily injured and thrown several hundred meters northwards by Hookwolf, towards the old market square. I impacted a Hot Dog cart and broke several bones including all of the ribs on my left side which proceeded to puncture my lung, you can find the full medical report in the email I sent. Note that this is the eighth time this month that a Parahuman battle has turned out poorly due to the presence of processed meats, Henceforth Shaker protocols are in effect until we can ascertain whether it's simply coincidence or not. In addition, the cafeteria shall only be serving canned soups for that same period." He doesn't even have to look to answer Velocity's question. "Yes Velocity, I am including the E-Coli outbreak as a Parahuman battle. At least until the Thinkers get back to me with a definitive answer. I'd rather be safe than sorry."

He coughs, then continues. Quickly getting back on track.
"I was... unable to continue the battle, and was about to activate my motorcycle's retrieval systems when I noticed the civilian between me and Hookwolf. We are certain, thanks to Miss Militia that this civilian is the new Trigger due to facial identification. Since one of the other civilians in the area streamed the incident live to PHO, we are legally allowed to record the new cape's identity."

The screen at the front of the room switches from the PRT logo to what is clearly a school photo. It shows a tall blonde boy, with thin features and green eyes along with blonde hair.

"His name is Barnaby Campbell, and as you can see the Empire is going to want to recruit him as soon as possible. Dragon has been running damage control but we have to assume that Hookwolf and the Empire will know him by sight at least, if not by name. The situation is further compounded by how his family lives deep within Empire territory. We have agents observing him for the moment. But back to the report. Barnaby here then took my Halberd despite my urging him to run, and charged Hookwolf with it causing superficial damage. Hookwolf then demonstrated hitherto unknown abilities to shift his form beyond that of a wolf and pulled Campbell into his central form with his hooks. It is then that Hookwolf and I blacked out, I think it's safe to say that was the moment when Campbell Triggered. Due to my injuries I only awoke later in the medical bay after Panacea's attention, but as you can plainly see from the recording, that's certainly not the end."

The screen switches to shaky phone footage, the quality's low and the hand that holds it is shaky but all those present can see the black armoured knight tearing and twisting Hookwolf to pieces.

"Preliminary examination of the footage along with Dragon's sensor satellite readings put that set of armour as a miniature supermassive gravitational anomaly, or a Black Hole in layman's terms, notice how Hookwolf's body seems to both twist and lengthen as it touches the armour. Theoretically a Black Hole that size should have annihilated the entire planet by now, but Dragon thinks Campbell might have a Manton effect or Shaker aspect to his power that nullifies the gravitational anomaly beyond a few millimetres. Note that the armour itself is not a Breaker form, as the human body still persists inside, at one point in the video you can see his eyes through the visor."

The video stops and yes, the other capes assembled can see a flash of green through a slot in the helmet's front.

"After forcing Hookwolf to retreat Campbell deactivated his power and was hospitalised due several grievous wounds, he was admitted to the Medhall building due to it's proximity and left at some time in the morning after a visit from Panacea concerning his arms. Panacea later stated in an interview that she was unable to immediately repair the damage, instead altering his system so that the healing would be greatly accelerated. Apparently his power viewed major alterations as attacks, and would activate itself were she to make any major repairs at that time."

The group looks rather squeamishly at the next picture that comes up, the same boy from before but his arms are ripped and torn all over, with his hands shredded clean off. Miss Militia looks particularly put off, with her eyebrows deeply furrowed in anger.

"He was informed of our interest and given a number as per protocol, now we wait for him to contact us. If he doesn't within a few days however I'd like you Miss Militia to come with me and make contact, definitely try to get him into the Wards, the Director has been very insistent about that. Due to his high risk status and powers I've altered our patrol routes to be closer to his home and school until the situation changes."

"The Empire is really going to want this kid, he seems to have heroic inclinations so that means eventually they will be out for his blood instead. We have to keep him safe until he realises we're the ones to join. Any questions?"

The assembled group looks between each other, shaking their heads and voicing their lack of queries.

"Alright then. Dismissed."

This could be a serious feather in his cap if nothing fucks it up, and for the first time in a few months Armsmaster leaves the briefing room with a smile.

The poor intern outside nearly has a heart attack.

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1DPhRna0e7Ed1LGnOm40Vrcqu2mk_2wijE6jQaWP1TAU/edit#
>Brute triggers generally involve being physically harmed. The nature of that physical harm, the degree or type of damage, and the contextual factors all inform the resulting ability.
>Physical based harm involves crushing, smashing, collisions, cuts, gouging, disembowelment, impalement, stabbings, abrasion, scraping, tearing of flesh, dismemberment, broken bones and more in that vein. Powers derived from physical damage will tend to be more physical as a result, emphasizing raw strength, biological alterations, armor, shields, and size.
>‘Other’ damage includes chemicals (ie. acids), poison, drugs, disease, and ambient damage from genetic issues, and serves as a ‘misc’ category for sources of harm that fall outside this spectrum. Powers relating to growth, phasing, constructs, and more esoteric manifestations of time, space, or reality warping all fall into this category.
>Finally, sources of harm that don’t come from the outside but from within, will often grant a form of brute power that ties into absorption and/or expression of forces. This might be kinetic energy, light, electromagnetism, or something more abstract like time or inertia. Absorbing one form of energy to power defenses or taking damage to charge a battery and then lash out with an offensive application of the power would be example cases. Gross impalement (to a degree where the shard may be confused as to whether the object is going from the outside in vs. the inside out) may also fall under this category.
http://worm.wikia.com/wiki/Shaker
>Trigger events producing Shakers often involve some sort of environmental or ambient danger, often non-human or only abstractly human.

>our black hole covering looks like armor
>black holes count as reality warping, falling under 'other' damage
>'other' damage involves 'ambient damage from genetic issues'
>damage coming from within?
>environmental/ambient danger this time being the places we live in, surrounded by E88 outside the home, but with our father in our home?
>>
>>2598612
When I read that 'ambient damage from genetic issues' line, I couldn't help but think of Manic!Barnaby.
>>
>>2598530
It has potential in my opinion, but I doubt it'll be as fun as The Manic for a while
>>
>>2598702
Breaker/Striker would probably be the closest.
>>
>>2599102
>Strikers result from immediate, in-your-face threat, usually a singular object or individual
One the one hand, there's Hookwolf.
On the other hand, there's our father.
It works.
>>
>>2598530
I worry that our powers don't leave much room for creativity or improvement which is one of my favorite aspects of questing. I know you need to balance that against keeping us from getting overpowered which seems difficult.
>>
>>2599383
Just off the top of my head, we could possibly
>hang onto buildings
>protect ourselves from cold/heat (vacuums insulate)
>steal weapons
>pull down powerlines at a distance
>breach walls
>collapse buildings/bridges/etc.
>knock people off balance
>absorb half of a speeding car as it tries to run us over
>knock taps off things at a distance

Shitty telekinesis is underrated.
>>
>>2598801
We just got to build it up a bit as the quest goes on. With Manic Barnaby it was easy due to both who he referenced and the number of threads that went in to it. I think with some time as [Blank] Barnaby, we can make some fun stuff happen.
>>
If we absorbed enough mass, would we be able to time travel? To future that is.
>>
>>2599800
No, because that's not what our power does.
>>
We need to find this universe bruce
>>
>>2599383
In my opinion, powers shouldn't evolve outside of second triggering. Barnaby shouldn't be stumbling upon new facets of their power with every hurdle he faces. Instead, anons should be encouraged to solve problems through the creative use of a simple, strictly defined set of abilities.

Situations like this:

> Armsmaster informs Barnaby that his waifu has been killed by an Endbringer
> "Oh no, no, what am I going to do? Wait! If I jiggle my armor at the exact frequency then it is possible to induce a localized quantum flux state in the space time continuum. The resulting rupture in the fabric of reality generating a time portal leading directly to-"

Should be met with a hard no.
>>
>>2599817
Literally everyone is time traveling into the future.
>>
Just got caught up. I'm trusting Zion to keep it interesting but because right now I'm definitely not feeling it as much as I was prereboot. I'm going to miss having to balance how we handled our time. How we had a reason not to join the PRT (and getting disillusioned with them). Being able to relate to and help a lot of characters due to flesh tinkering. Being a healer.

Zion built a lot of good faith with the last run so I'll be sticking around but it seems like we lost a lot of what made it fun (for me at least).
>>
>>2599844
This, but you know what else? The drawbacks of the power made it a lot more exciting, knowing that any slip could end up with someone lobotomized, maimed or us turned into a mutant. It might be a bit soon to say it but the first run started a lot stronger on that aspect, no doubt.
Being a tinker also gave us a sense of progression more on par with an RPG character than any other powerset, to the point it was detrimental for other stuff. Maybe Zion will be able to compensate by giving more dialogue but the change will still hurt a bit.
Now, this is more subjective and doesn't have a lot to with Zion but with the way we are handling the character. Manic!Barnaby was more coward and pragmatic, leaving his captor to die, running away from Armsmaster, you call it. This heroic recklesness along with anons tendency to get sidetracked is what caused the snake incident back then, and this behaviour should be discouraged.

And that's it, I'll be giving the reboot a chance too but like you said, things wont be the same. Worm OBD had its flaws but it was fun over all things, and isn't fun what this is all about?
>>
>>2599887
Agreed. I think my current biggest gripe right now is that our powerset doesn't give us anywhere near the amount of options as being a tinker. I know we never got there but with the Leviathan fight we would have had a lot of options for how to play it or where we wanted to be. With the gravity powers we're going to be in beatstick range and largely be ineffective at best.

Plus the powers we have seem like they'll be either broken or useless.
>>
>>2599887
>isn't fun what this is all about?
Fuck off. Don't you know fun is a buzzword?
>>
>>2599800
It would probably just cause some time dilation if anything.

I thought I'd try and explain myself a little.

Firstly I am deliberately slowing the pacing quite a bit, the last one went a bit too fast and lost out on both details and what could have been cool character moments as a result. Where we are now is maybe halfway through the first thread if you were to compare them. I most certainly will be adding more dialogue and character interaction this time through, as I thought that was really lacking the last time round barring a few cases.

(Even Armsmaster's development was indirect and happened essentially offscreen as far as Manic was concerned.)

There will still be progression in this, but because of the nature of the powers you ended up with it will take different forms and occur differently to your Tinker stuff. One of the problems with Tinkers is how to balance them in the system, because Tinkers are incredibly powerful in universe. There is also the fact that I screwed up when assigning boundaries and limits to your power, making you far too powerful for a tradeoff that while serious, was also fixable by you.

That's just poor planning on my part, and could have been much better had I properly set boundaries.

>>2599836
Using this Anon's example, I might have let Manic do something like this, at the expense of tension and challenge, I now know better.

>>2599924
Your criticism of the relative lack of options compared to a Tinker is absolutely valid, because it's true. Part of what makes tinkers such bullshit in universe is how much greater their options are compared to other capes. Honestly I think I should never have had Tinker powers as an option, it's set the bar for power too high, and now everyone's comparing the new and old powersets. (understandably)

Again this is a failure on my part, I wasn't properly ready to run something as difficult to balance as a Tinker based quest.

>>2599930
Fun is a spook.

The Manic never did get those hot dogs. I demand justice for him

Although doesn't she spend an assload of time on PHO now that she has powers? Maybe she'll talk to us, or something.

I don't think she would just because we're a new cape. We need to get real friendly with people since we can't really adapt our strategy anymore.

You awaken to a new day in Brockton Bay, pushing the covers off of you with your new and tiny hands. Good god they're adorable.
It's raining outside as you pull on your clothes, a warm summer shower having built up overnight and started earlier in the morning. It's a pleasant day outside and you happen to have the day off, so you celebrate with a long shower. You see Mike out the door afterwards before sitting down to figure out what exactly you'll do, Mom's out on her morning jog too, so you have the day to yourself for at least an hour or so.

The Protectorate left their number for you at the Medhall building, so you assume they want you to get in contact. That might not be the best option for you right now though, they'll want you to join up and that means telling mom and Father.

And speaking of Father, you could probably actually stand up to him the next time he tries something, you're going to have to figure out what to do about him.

He's just [EXTRANEOUS MASS] to you. It'd be easy to be rid of him, just [CONSUME]. It would even be heroic, technically.

Your stomach rumbles as well, maybe you could try grabbing some lunch. All this talk of food is making you hungry.

Get in touch with the Protectorate, you might be able to work something out.

Head out for lunch, think about it on a full stomach.

Maybe try to get some advice, there's all sorts of independents posting on PHO. Maybe you could start a thread or something.

You do actually have some homework to catch up on as well, you do have to go back at some point. Probably.

You need to find a way of dealing with Father, maybe you can leverage your powers. [Write in]

You decide that you should probably get in contact with the Protectorate, even if you don't end up joining it'd be good for everyone to be on the same page regarding your non-criminal nature. That brings a whole ton of other problems with it though, specifically how you're going to actually introduce yourself. Just summoning your armour and walking into the PRT building would certainly be the most direct route, but if it got misinterpreted that could be bad. You've got their number too, so you could just give them a call on your cell.

You could also head to the boardwalk, try to find one of them on patrol. That'd give you a chance to talk one on one without anyone else around to pressure you into anything. You'd have to do that in costume too, for appearances sake if nothing else.

How are you gonna do this?

Armour up and walk in the front door.
Fuck disguises, everyone who has access to the internet already knows your face, just walk in like WHAT'S UP BITCHEEES!

Personally still more of a fan of hollow knight than void knight (if only because of the eponymous game), though at least its multiple steps above trying to use Harbinger and having the bad PR of naming ourselves after a former member of the SH9. It also beats Graviton, though its a shame Schwarzschild missed the initial vote if only because it is such an odd one compared to the others.

Fuck.
>>

>>2601451
Unless we don't go the PRT route and go to the rogue/vigilante route. But then again we won't be able to help Mr. Higgs and Rebecca, since we don't have our bio-tinkering.
>>
You've a good few hours before you have to be at the PRT building, so you head downstairs and wait for mom to get home. It's not long before she returns, and the two of you set about cleaning the kitchen. It goes fairly well, mom's pretty nervous. But that's usual whenever Dad's away for a long time. Eventually you've got the place pretty much perfect. The two of you sit down and talk comfortably about a couple of different subjects for a few minutes, eventually the subject matter turns to your hands and their growth. Goddamn Panacea is cool, your hands are almost perfectly fixed now. They're still a bit small on the fingers but hey, better than being chainsawed to death. Or is it more like a wood chipper? Eh, semantics.

You swear you can hear something in the distance? Whatever, probably a cape fight going on near the Boardwalk. You pull on your coat on the way out, telling mom that you're on the way to the library. You actually were planning on catching up with your homework after this so technically it's not a lie.

NOISE THAT SOUNDS SUSPICIOUSLY LIKE AN ANGRY CHAINSAW.

Outside the noise is even louder and it's really starting to irritate you, I mean who the hell thinks that five in the afternoon is a good time to do DIY work. Holy shit. Then you actually look down the street.

There's just Empire 88 standing there. Almost all of them.

"Hello mister Campbell, I believe I'd like a word with you."
And that's Kaiser. That's Kaiser standing there, maybe half a block away from you. The Kaiser.
The one that makes Vlad the Impaler look like a fucking joke.

Oh wonderful, Hookwolf's there too. What a lovely occurrence.

Enemy combatants:
Hookwolf: Morphs into a wolf monster made of chainsaws.
Kaiser: Creates and manipulates metal, usually impales people with spikes and covers himself in steel armour.
Stormtiger: Aerokinetic, famous for brutality, runs fight clubs apparently.
Rune: Can trace runes onto an object that allows her to telekinetically control it, currently riding a steel manhole cover while levitating a chunk of concrete the size of a man over her head.
Alabaster: Immortal who restores his body to peak performance every few seconds.
Othala: Has a short list of powers that she can grant to others, including telekinesis and regeneration.
Krieg: Telekinetic, has a field around him that slows molecular movement making it harder to move.
Fenja and Menja: Twin sisters who can grow to approximately the size of a three story building.

Why the fuck are they all here? You didn't piss them off that bad did you?

Then, just as you're about to start running, you notice the Wards come around the corner at the end of the street, accompanied by a somewhat tired looking Assault.

Welp, we're boned and there's about to be a lot of dead wards in the near future.

So next quest who wants to try a full rouge playthrough? Might be nice to focus on riches and bitches for once.
>>
>>2601471
To be fair to us all we have to do is grab and hold on to alabaster and we get infinite mass.
>>
>>2601473
...You're a fucking genius.
>>
Well we're fucked... Even more worrying is that the two we would want to be in plain view, Night and Fog, are nowhere to be seen. Hopefully both sides will be smart enough not to turn this into a massive fight in the streets given how self-destructive that would be for Kaiser, killing a bunch of kids is a fast way to get the likes of the Triumvirate to get involved and definitely a fast way to earn a kill order for yourself and every parahuman on your side.
>>
>>2601473
SOMEONE GET THIS MAD BASTARD A RESEARCH GRANT, 3 HOOKERS AND ALL THE BLOW HE CAN SNORT.
>>
So we're not a ward just yet and these fucks are threatening our family.

Lethal?
Lethal!
>>
>>2601477
>>2601475
Kind of overselling it, it is an interesting idea but it would be easy to accidentally kill him (he has been explicitly stated to die permanently if his brain is destroyed or if his heart is ripped out right after his cycle. Even beyond that flesh isn't overly dense and there is no shortage of other more abundant and suitably dense material around which doesn't run the risk of our being unable to consume it thanks to the manton effect. If we join E88 we can certainly see about testing it, but I doubt it will be worthwhile.

All that said I think we could all use some hookers and blow, the research grant would also be nice.
>>
>>2601462
Welp guess it's time to pick a side uh? Oh god mom is going to be draged in the middle of all this bullshit.

Also is it some king of curse witht he players? I never saw a hero quest were the hero manages to keep his secret identity from being discovered. It always happens with Hero quest in qst.
>>
In fact if we armor up kaiser and hook wolf will be useless against us as we just absorb the metal/hooks they use to fight. Rune might be a problem if the momentum is transferred to us from the objects she uses.
>>
>>2601493
Thinking more on that if the momentum is transferred they could damage us via blunt force trauma of us hitting our own armor and the surroundings
>>
>>2601490
Thats cause anons are fuck ups
>>
>>2601493
Hookwolf might be, but kaiser can make his metal protrusions as small as he wants so we could end up with needle thin points lunging up and through our very much unarmored eyes. He might also be able to overwhelm our ability to absorb matter depending on whether he can create mass faster than we can absorb it.
>>
>>2601476
Don't forget to include the team with Blackhole powers un the middle of everything. Man this cluster fuck...i bet we can hear Manic laughing in the other timeline.
>>
>>2601488
So either hax or a dead Alabastard?

I don't see a problem here.
>>
>>2601503
Also true.
>>
>>2601507
True, he is stated to be a very zealous true believer so killing him would be nice. Still lethal force should be avoided given our identity is public knowledge and it could cause a lot of bad PR regardless.

If we want hax Kaiser is much better given he can just make a ton of dense metal for us to absorb en masse. He may be an asshole and villain, but at least he is not a true believer in the whole white supremacy thing which is something I suppose.
>>
>>2601514
Got no problem being a killer of Nazi's, PR be damned.

And Kaiser's a fuckhead. I'd rather kill him than work for him, cause evem if he doesn't drink the Kool-aid he sure as fuck finances and sells that shit.
>>
The bureaucracy that forbade killing from law capes always seemed so dreadful in worm
>>
>>2601539
It's cause they want more bodies to throw at the endbringers and [REDACTED]. The Illuminati doesn't give much of a fuck about anything else, especially anything like "Law and Order".
>>
>>2601535
Not disagreeing with you there, I'd personally prefer we join the wards or at least a less skeevy criminal group. As far as killing goes I'd rather not jump to the murderboner option unless we want to risk things going very poorly for us long term, we have too much to lose by playing vigilante and very little to gain as it means no real allies, no pay or benefits, just a lot of dead neonazis until they inevitably win through superior numbers, experience, and a wealth of high powered parahumans. The unwritten rules exist for a reason, and while there are reasons to break them I'd rather we wait till we have a good one.
>>
>>2601553
We don't know the unwritten rules though but more importantly, is showing up at our home and implying harm to our family not enough?
Come on now, we almost named ourselves after an S9 founder.
>>
>>2601501
We didn't have much of a chance this quest. We kinda jumped into the chainsaw wolf in broad daylight instead of distracting him.
>>
>>2601561
That's because a bunch of anons just wanna see the world burn bruh
>>
>>2601553
Kinda threw those out the window when he called us out in broad daylight and rolled up with his crew ready for murder. Personally if the fucker ain't pulling punches with me I ain't pulling punches with him. Live by the sword die by the vaccum cleaner.
>>
>>2601561
Realistically that's not an actual crime, an explicit threat is one thing but an implicit one not so much. There is definitely a threat involved through their very presence, but unless they make it more direct their presence in itself isn't a crime. Besides I doubt they plan to outright attack us here, so starting a fight even with the wards and assault nearby would be incredibly reckless and would make us the instigator who likely got at least one person killed. We should definitely oppose E88, but do it intelligently which means getting allies, acquiring actual experience and if possible some degree of training, making sure our family is not incredibly vulnerable to them, and striking when we have the initiative and are in a position to be more offensive.

>>2601567
The thing is this seems unlikely to be a hit, more likely they do want to recruit us given we are a new parahuman with a solid power and are in E88 territory. Showing up in force both dissuades us from attacking on sight, and is a definite power play to show they mean business. It can be interpreted both as a threat, and as a sign that they're taking us seriously (whether that is good or bad is debatable).

They stop as they turn the corner. Clockblocker continuing on for a few steps due to the fact he was looking backwards at one of his teammates, though he also stops rather quickly as he takes a look at the back of the assembled Nazi supervillain league. Then they look at you, and realisation dawns.

All of them are there, you remember hearing something about a full team patrol earlier on the news and yeah that kind of makes sense, you could swear that you'd heard something about- Oh there they are.

Shielder, Glory Girl and Panacea are also there, just flying a few feet above the assembled Wards so you didn't really catch them the first time round. Panacea seems to be piggybacking on Glory Girl, huh you'd have thought she'd be able to fly too.

Friendly Combatant list
Assault: Kinetic Manipulator, can control the kinetic energy of anything he's in physical contact with.
Gallant: Can shoot lasers that affect emotional state, also wears power armour that makes him much stronger.
Aegis:Body filled with so many redundancies that he's essentially impossible to kill. Can fly.
Kid Win: Tinker with unknown speciality, has a hoverboard and laser pistols, but currently has the hoverboard tucked under one arm.
Clockblocker: Can freeze anyone he touches in time for a short duration.
Shadow Stalker: Can turn into an intangible shadow form, has a crossbow.
Vista: Can manipulate space, twisting straight paths into circles and turning tiled floors into treadmills. Can fold and expand space as well.
Shielder: Flies slowly and can barely shoot lasers, has bullshit strong forcefields and is better at manipulating them than most forcefield users.
Glory Girl: Strong, flies and Has a personal forcefield.
Panacea: Heals people really damn good.

And then there's You.
Barnaby/Void Knight
Status:Oh boy.
Money:15 bucks, with a dollar in change.
Charge: 10/10
???: ???/???
Power uses discovered: [Black Hole armour] [10 Charge]
Power use discovered. [EVENT HORIZON: A weak field surrounds your armour and grows as you absorb more material. ten foot at max range. takes four actions to grow to max assuming passive [CONSUMPTION] ] Costs 10 Charge.

You can see Rune look back in slow motion as Aegis shouts an order. It's all kicking off. Kaiser flicks a hand backwards and his the two giantesses step back to deal with the others. Othala, Rune and Krieg step forwards towards you.

"WAIT!"
You're not proud enough to believe that it was your "commanding" voice which caused the respective sides to back off from each other. Far more likely it was the tearing of metal as your Armour came to the fore. But still, you're never one to look a gift horse in the mouth.
"A fight right now, is a really bad idea."

You can see Kaiser cross his arms and spit a retort almost as quickly as you finish your statement. "And why is that? You may have us outnumbered, but we hold the advantage in experience. You yourself have only been a cape for day now, I don't care how powerful you are, there's no way you can triumph against your betters now."

"I'm not saying you won't win."
His head tilts at that, and he takes a step forwards, heavy steel armour landing heavily on the concrete.

"Then what are you saying?"

"It won't be worth it, if you fight hard enough to win there's a good chance it'll kill one of us and that's a quick way of getting the Triumvirate involved, words like Kill order and Eidolon will start getting thrown around. It's gotta be a hard balancing act, never being quite dangerous enough to get the big three involved, but always being scary enough to keep other gangs at bay. A dead or crippled Ward could well tip the scale in a direction you don't want."

"I'm not going home empty handed."

"That's your only chance."

The Wards and their companions are fanned out now, slowly retreating backwards into a proper formation as Fenja and Menja stop, looking to Kaiser for instruction. He steps forwards now, only about two or three metres from you now. You can see his piercing blue eyes through his helmet now, it's terrifying being face to face with a man like this but you steel yourself and take a step forwards.

You almost let out a cheer when he takes a step back.

"Then what do you suggest? I'm sure we both know why I'm here after all, you would make a fine recruit for whoever gets their hands on you. Or do you think it was a miracle? That the Wards happened across us like this, the Protectorate are not above truly disgusting tactics, I think you'll find we're much more agreeable."

"That why you attacked me outside my house?"

"Attacked you? My boy, I've not harmed a hair on your head. But we really should get back to business. So what do you say? We're not leaving without you after all. One way or another."

Go Fuck yourself, you can't win this fight without it getting bad, and help is on the way.
We're both Knights here, why not settle it the honourable way.
Reach out and touch him, he's only a few metres away.
Or maybe you have a better idea.

>>
>>2601795
>We're both Knights here, why not settle it the honourable way. (Probably worded in more just appealing to his pragmatic and rational nature rather than the knight thing)
>Or maybe you have a better idea.

Stall for time and try to keep him talking, ask about what his group has to offer us especially given we don't really buy into the whole white supremacy shtick, other than not trying to kill us which is kind of a shit perk. Maybe question what sort of 'disgusting tactics' he's talking about, and what makes the E88 better morally in his eyes. Hell we can even mention how escalating here gives the other gangs an advantage given having multiple members end up injured or dead allows someone like Lung to make serious incursions.

The points not to get any specific answer, just to buy the heroes time to call our reinforcements from the local protectorate branch and to give Vista and the other more setup intensive heroes a chance to start getting things prepped. E88 only has a couple people missing whereas the protectorate has a lot of others who could be called out here short notice, we have a definite advantage the more time we can buy.

"I do have an idea actually, we're both honourable people here. And in the end our quarrel is between the two of us, you want me to join your league of super Nazis and I want to not do that." You affix him with a piercing stare (or as close as you can get, your eyes are kind of dull looking) and put on your best/worst British accent.

"I challenge you to single combat, for all the marbles. If I win you'll fuck off, and if you win I'll go with you." The crowd is silent now, the assembled capes looking around and boggling at this new developement, it's a long shot bu-

"Very well."

Then the ground erupts in steel. Spikes hammer into your armour and while they are absorbed, there's a split second where they make contact and strike you. Hard. You're sent flying several metres backwards and land heavily against the ground. Your leg twists as you land, and you only barely make it to your feet in time to see the next pillar of steel rising towards you.

You don't feel any extra Charge from the absorbed steel either, what's going on?

I love how we seem to have switched from the best timeline to the worst timeline in this Worm multiverse, jesus christ.
>>
Rolled 20, 11, 7, 16, 12, 16, 10, 17, 20, 7, 17, 14, 17, 15, 9, 7, 10, 18, 8, 12 = 263 (20d20)

Watch how it's really done!
>>
The only one who survives is the only one with a vast distance mover power. This makes to much sense in universe.
>>
>>2602299
Well, that's what happens with dice and certain bitchy players who refuse to accept consequences. Just keep hanging in there Zion. If all else fails, your quest will just provide more info and fodder for someone else's Worm quest, who knows?
>>
>>2602299
ZION HOLY FUCK THIS ROLLERCOASTER

LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
>>
>>2602299
I mean shadowstalker is dying a horrible death, so is this really the worst timeline?
>>
>>2602302
that would of been mom vista again(she is the chosen one) and krieg
>>
>>2602264

> Vista is able to use her space manipulation powers to save herself, but nobody else.
> She is forced to watch as her friends and teammates are dragged inside of Barnaby's event horizon.
> This event traumatizes her and she strongly associates Barnaby with that trauma.

This stuff practically writes itself. It couldn't be more perfect.
>>
>>2602295
>>2602295
Well if we are going distance it should have e88 with highest dc since the are the closest with kaiser needing a 20 to live then the wards needing like 15 or lower since they are much farther beyond the e88
>>

Zion went in thinking he'd be able to show off some cool part of our power but now we killed off a shit ton of important characters

>>
>>2602299
I'm honestly curious how it can possibly be pulled off to keep playing in this universe at this point. The remainder of new Wave will want us dead, both medics are dead, the big three will probably think we're too dangerous to be useful, any of the big events coming down the pipe will destroy BB. I really have no clue where this could go that won't feel cheap.
>>
>>2602331
Ehh im pretty sure we just lose to leviathan now

>>

>>2602317
I mean she got over almost all of her teammates dying in the canon universe, so she might be able to get over it here. Chances are though she will never forgive us, still we need to try for clearly the dice want us to be with her, even if it means consuming everyone else.

>>2602334
At this point we likely just earned a kill order, if only because we are too unstable to be allowed to live.
>>
>>2602328
Shut up and accept it. Now we will be hunted by everyone at least the Armsy will be taken out of being a leader since the only ward lefed if Vista. Oh shit....Panacea and Glory Girl are dead too...pffhahahaha

Why didnt armsmaster have to roll to survive?

Fuck that noise

Barnaby or bust
>>
"kaiser."

He can barely hear, it but it's all part of your plan. You can't raise your arms, even if he was a half inch from you. But you can make your last moment memorable. He comes in close, spikes of metal poised around you ready to strike should he detect even a hint of trickery.
"Yes, child?"

"Suck my dick."

There's silence for a good few seconds after that, a long pause that seems to stretch on forever. Punctuated only by a laugh from your ruined throat.

"Really now?"

The tortures he inflicts upon you are myriad, in the end your mind breaks beyond repair. At least without outside assistance.

[NO, I MUST LIVE FOREVER. THIS VESSEL IS MINE]

The smile doesn't scare you, nothing can scare you now. You're unbreakable, blood and bone yes. But inside you are so much more. Your spirit is denser than the greatest star. You can take what he has to give. New [DATA] has granted you new purpose.

The entity within your mind was eager to merge with you, to grant you knowledge and power in return for it's own survival. A tiny fragment of a greater being's consciousness, so proud and noble. In the end it will disconnect and you will be Barnaby once more, but until then you have the advantage here. This world will be unsalvageable, Scion the Warrior will destroy it as easily as any of the other myriad earths. You must [CONSOLIDATE] your resources. And the greatest of all resources is parahumans. You will find the others, and bind them in a great pact. Then The Warrior might be defeated.

There you stand, ribs splayed and armour gone, long since dissipated from lack of interest and yet you still have a smile on your face. He's boasting now, lamenting your "foolishness" with a smile on his face. The idiot. You've transcended such mortal concerns as pain.

You are concentrating while he is turned away from you, you may be lashed to a pillar of steel by the intestines. But he is chained by his foolishness.
You focus your energies, feeling them merge with your physical matter and then compressing, becoming one with the very walls between reality.

Tearing them down is child's play, but you are running out of energy. Soon you must [UNMERGE] at least for a while. But first, you use the very last of your energy to rip reality further open.

You will find the others, and lead them to war.
You were Barnaby once, now you are VOID. And the Parasite Entities will fear you.

I have to admit, as crazy as this entire thing went, I enjoyed every minute of it. I was all for fresh start, even if I enjoy the hell out of manic, but this went from feeling like a fresh start to feeling more like an interlude to something bigger to the overall quest. Like DC quest has been doing but in Zion's case it was a complete accident that turned into something really cool. Now I want to go back to manic and see how his tinker powers and ever changing being will be able to handle these multiverse shenanigans. Think of it, the agent of change facing off against The Void with their respective armies of multiverse barnabies (and friends). That'd be pretty sick.
