You are the TEMPLAR, a holy knight sent to clear the frontier of monsters and heresy!

You had just repelled a rather large Elven ambush on your caravan, involving multiple Elves, cavalry, and beasts.

Fortunately, it didn't seem anybody was hurt too badly with the exception of Nino, and the caravan itself was unharmed. In fact, you had even gained a new follower in the form of a giant eagle that formerly belong to the ambushing Elves, which Morgan had somehow managed to tame.

However, even though she was the only one injured, Nino's condition was rather severe. None of you knew quite what happened, as she had hadn't been hit by any sort of attack. She just attempted to cast and spell and just collapsed.

Naru had repeatedly assured you she was in a stable condition, but she was not be removed from the wagon that had been hastily repurposed into an ambulance. Both Naru and Elias were in there trying to figure out what happened to her.

Morgan meanwhile just looked at the eagle warily as it stood perched atop one of the wagons.

You leave the caravan driving to Valentia and Janice as you head to the center wagon, where Nino as being kept. Morgan is too busy staring down the giant eagle to notice you, and Niko, who's keeping watch on the wagon, wordlessly nods to you as you climb inside.

Inside, you see Nino laid out on the floor of the wagon, a blanket covering her body and a cloth on your forehead. She's breathing and snoring softly, looking to be sleeping peacefully. However, the pile of discarded, blood soaked bandages and cloth lying at the back of the wagon betrayed how close she came to her demise.

Standing vigil over Nino was Naru and Elias. Naru was simply keeping watch, while Elias had his hands hovering over Nino's body, glowing a soft green. Whether he was healing or examining her, you weren't sure.

"Hey." Naru says simply as she motions for you to sit next to her, which you do. "Squirt's gonna be okay. Or well, we stabilized her, at least."

"It was some sort of mana overload." Elias mumbles, his eyes shimmering in the dim light. "A typical danger if one attempts to cast a spell beyond their ability, but given Nino's natural talent and knowledge, I find it highly unlikely she'd use a spell she'd be unfamiliar with..."

"Well, I mean, all we did was make sure she didn't bleed out." Naru frowns. "We haven't done any sort of in depth examination yet, though. Not sure if we might accidentally make things worse for her."

You shake you head. Better to just keep her stable until you get back.

"Yeah, I figured. I'll keep an eye on her." Naru assures you.

"Now that we know the way, I can pick up the pace of our caravan and take the main roads." Elias says. "At full pace, we can easily get back to Eisenwand within a day. Assuming there's no more ambushes, of course."

"Considering how badly we routed them, they probably won't have time to reorganize a new one if we keep moving." Niko adds.

"Yeah, but that's all just guesswork." Naru warns.

"Well, I suppose it's up to the one in charge of our safety, now is it?" Elias posits.

You nod to Elias to begin picking up the pace.

"Of course." Elias says as his eyes go dark for a split second. The wagon rumbles and you can feel it start to pick up speed. Elias was at least thoughtful enough to gradually but noticeably speed them up so as to let the rest of the party know what was going on.

"I shall return to my own wagon, then." Elias says as he begins to fade out from view. More Mage trickery.

"Well, you can go back to guard duty." Naru says. "Like I said, I'll keep an eye on Nino."

While you were tempted to stay with Nino, you know that you had a job to do and make your way to the front of the wagon, keeping a keen eye out for anything out of the ordinary.

And Elias wasn't kidding when he said he would pick up the pace. The wagons were now practically gliding down the road like boats caught in a fast current. It was might convenient.

It was also starting to get dark. You've spent most of the day just getting down from the mountain range and through the forests at its base. However, at this rate, you figure you'd be able to get back to the Monastery before morning. Hopefully.

Luna's ominous form hung in the sky, bathing the landscape in her pale light. Up above, you can see the eagle in the sky silently tailing the caravan.

"He didn't like trying to hold on to the wagons going so fast, so he's going to just fly the rest of the rest of they way." Morgan explains as she drops down next to you. "So... I heard something happened to Nino."

You nod grimly.

"Is it... serious?" She asks, worried.

You shake your head and shrug. You honestly don't know.

"Well, is there... anything I can do?" Morgan asks, rightly reading how troubled you were. What kind of Templar were you, if you couldn't protect one of your charges?

Thankfully, the rest of the trip appears to go smoothly, There's no other attack, whether by beast, bandit, or Elf.

Soon enough, the glimmering lights of Eisenwand can be seen on the horizon as you get closer and closer to the city. Closer to better help for Nino.

"Just to inform you, Templar..."

You whip your head around to see Elias suddenly behind you, no doubt using more of his trickery to materialize himself there. Mages.

"I was hoping that I could have Nino brought to the Tower for further examination and treatment." Elias offers. "I believe our facilities are better suited to finding the source of her affliction."

And study it, which you knew was remaining unsaid, but the implication hung heavy in the air. You knew how these Mages worked.

"I will of course do everything in my power to ensure she remains safe." Elias says quickly.

"Ah, that is an understandable compromise." Elias nods.

"What? She's gonna go to the Tower?" Naru groans. "Great, I'm gonna be stuck with the nerds. Is the place still dry?"

"Unfortunately, yes." Elias nods.

"Fuuuuuuuuuck." Naru groans again as she pulls out a bottle, pops the cork and takes a deep pull. "Better get it in while I still can."

And just like that, you part ways with the caravan once you reach the outskirts of the Monastery, taking your companions and your spoils with you. Up above, the eagle Morgan tamed still follows you.

As you drag the might dragon head and the loot you collected from it to the Monastery doors, you see the mighty doors open and the first person you see is...

You take the hug prett well, in your opinion. You're not crushed or knocked down as Havel's arms wrap around you. He must be REALLY glad to see you.

"Honestly, these past few days have been quite the ordeal." Havel grumbles as he looks at the rest of your party approaching. "It's nice to see some familiar and friendly faces for once."

"Huh? Where's Ozen off to, then?" Niko asks.

"She went off to rendezvous with the contingent of Templars being sent to reinforce the Monastery." Havel explains. "Apparently they've run into complications on the way."

"Elves?" Morgan asks.

"Paladins." Havel grunts.

Ah, that would be a problem, the.

"Awwww, that means the acolytes aren't here?!" Janice whimpers.

"I'm afraid not." Havel shakes his head and looks around. "Odd, where's Naru and Nino?"

There's an awkward silence, and Havel immediately puts two and two together.

You shake your head. You needed to talk with him right now.

"Hm, understood." Havel nods and waves for the Monastery serfs to come carry your gear and spoils in. "I suppose you have much to say."

That you do.

Janice and Morgan accompany you to Havel's chambers, where they recount everything that's happened in great detail, from the journey to the mountains to the continual Elven ambushes, meeting Morgan's people, slaying a dragon, and forging an alliance. You're not sure how much time has passed, but it feels like a great amount.

"This is all... rather interesting, and certainly works in our favor." Havel nods and looks to Janice. "We shall have you taken to see Lucina in the morning to confirm the alliance."

"Of course!" Janice nods.

"And Morgan, we'll have to do something about that eagle. It's been making the serfs nervous since it keeps circling over the Monastery." Havel continues.

"Yes sir." Morgan nods.

"And you." Havel looks to you. "This... incident with Nino. We may have to inform Ozen about this. A Mage letting her powers go out of control like that... it's not exactly good news to a Witch Hunter."

You gently shake Morgan to wake her up. You really, REALLY needed somebody to talk to.

"Hrmmmm...?" Morgan grunts as she wakes up, initially groggy and disoriented. "Something wrong?"

You nod.

"Nino." You say simply.

"Ah..." Morgan nods and flips around so that she's looking at you face to face, her eyes almost seemingly glow in Luna's light. "You're still worried about her, aren't you?"

You nod.

"There there, it'll be all right." Morgan smiles as she wraps her arms around your head and hugs it close to her chest. It was soft. Almost unnatural soft, but you weren't complaining.

And then she begins humming a tune. A lullaby, you think. You don't recognize it, but it's soothing to you. Pleasant, even.

You simply soak the moment in and close your eyes, Morgan's little lullaby soothing your anxieties and fears. You're quite surprised that she would know something a song like this. Actually, you were a bit surprised that she knew how to sing at all. It wasn't a skill you were expecting her to possess.

However, you don't have long to ponder as you finally drift off into sleep.

When you wake up, you find that Sol had already risen. Morgan is already getting dressed, and smiles when she sees you awake.

"Sorry, you looked so peaceful, I figured you could use a few more minutes of sleep." She explains. "It's gonna be a big day today, I think."

You nod at that. You get that feeling, too. You already had a lot of things on your checklist to handle...

You nod towards the Tower. You would be going to see if Elias had figured out what had happened to Nino.

"Ah, should have figured." Morgan smiles. "Want me to come along, too?"

You nod. Of course Morgan could come along. Morgan just smiles and her tail wags eagerly.

Once the both of you get dressed and geared up, you head out of the gate towards the city itself. Romulus comes bounding out, deciding to follow you two there. No doubt he was worried about Nino as well.

Behind you, the giant eagle remains perched atop one of the Monastery's towers, staring at you intently. Below it, several of the Monastery serfs eyed it nervously as they tried to go about their everyday tasks. You'll have to figure out what to do with it later.

And as you get closer to the city, you could see that it was starting to recover from the previous hits to its prestige. Despite many of the Elves having abandoned the city, it seemed to have regained the bustling and busy atmosphere it had enjoyed as the center of the Frontier. The markets were open, and travelers and adventurers were everywhere to be found. Morgan makes sure her hood is up and her animal features covered as you, her, and Romulus make your way to the Tower.

As you walk through the streets, you notice a much heavier than usual Paladin presence among the crowds, undoubtedly there to assist the City Guard in keeping order, especially with all of the recent happenings.

In addition, you were starting to attract curious looks and stares. You had to admit, your new, transmuted dragon armor did stand out and was extremely eye catching. However, the looks of slight recognition and the whispering also seemed to indicate that the people were starting to recognize you, as well, despite being clad in different armor.

This also seems to catch the attention of the Paladins, who start looking at you with more scrutiny.

You decide to let them talk. It was of no concern to you. You continue on with Morgan and Romulus towards the Tower. The whispers continue, which put Morgan on edge, but you continue your confident stride, which convinces her to keep close to you and follow.

Romulus meanwhile looks at the crowd warily but otherwise loyally follows you as well.

Upon reaching the entrance of the Tower, you see that the Twins weren't guarding the entrance like they always did. Instead, two different Mageknights were present, standing still there like statues clad in azure blue armor. Their heads just barely turn to acknowledge your presence, and then they step aside to allow you to pass. Guess even they knew who you were.

You figure the whereabouts of the Twins was something you could worry about later and continue on to the Tower, walking into the portal as always.

Immediately, you are transported to a large chamber which appeared to be similar to the Cathedral's infirmary. There were rows of beds, which were sporadically occupied by those suffering various magical afflictions, either from their own making or otherwise. Down at the end, you could see Nino asleep in one of the beds, still out cold, apparently. Naru was also present, asleep sitting at the bedside, her head resting next to Nino's.

>Wake up Naru and see what's going on.

You decide not to disturb either Nino nor Naru and instead look around for Elias.

"Ah, Templar, you've arrived."

You turn to see the Archgmagus, who had materialized out of nowhere next to you as he tended to do. His eyes were glowing a strong ruby red this time as he stared at you.

"It is good that you have come. We've come across an... interesting predicament."

"Just say what's wrong with her already." Morgan grunts.

"How can I put this...?" Elias pauses as he tries to come up with a proper explanation. "I suppose the problem right now is, well, Nino may crystallize, like that crystal golem we encountered."

Wait... what?!

Nino was... crystallizing?

Damn magic.

>And that's it for tonight! Unfortunately, I'm taking a break next weekend so there won't be a thread next week! However, we'll be back to our regular schedule the week after!
