Nina, Nariko and Yu Yan are here! Finally, something worth your time is happening! Nariko looks so incredibly joyful it’s making you feel uncomfortable. She’s just standing there, smiling.

“Remember he’s in bad shape, girls. So don’t get too touchy-touchy with him.” Nina reminds the other two about your condition. Of the three, she’s the one who looks more inclined to hug you.
"You're one to talk, Nina." You say sarcastically. Uccelli blushes at this, but doesn't say anything.
“I’m so glad you’re fine!” Nariko didn’t pay attention to Uccelli one bit. She’s next to you all giddy, about to jump for joy any moment.
“I was wondering when all of you were going to show up.” You tell the group, looking around at them.
“We came here as soon as I was able to get out of school.” Nina explains.

“A-are you really okay?” Yu Yan still feels bad about you, knowing it was all due to her that Flint showed up.
“Fuck no, even blinking hurts. But hey, it could be worse.” You reply to Yu Yan, forcing yourself to smile. Smiling hurts your face, but you do it anyway.
“I can’t imagine how.” Yu Yan seems uncomfortable, noticing you forcing yourself.
“Give it a rest, I told you it isn’t your fault.” Nina chides Yu Yan as she grabs a couple of chairs to sit on. She gives one to Yu Yan since Nariko already took a little space of your bed. As everyone gets comfortable, a question arises.

“So now what?” Yu Yan says, already bored after spending like 5 minutes here!
“There is a TV over there.” Nariko stares at your new television. You almost think you saw her starting to drool, looking at it …
“Must be better than that crap in Uccelli’s apartment, huh?” A snarky Yu Yan says.
“Yu Yan, watch your language…” Uccelli seems offended.
“Yeah… Yeah…” Yu Yan, still smug, basically ignores Nina.

Yeah… Now what?

>Just watch TV again, at least you have company this time… Maybe the news might have something important from overnight?
>Ask Nariko what the hell she was thinking to get involved in the fight with Flint! This girl became reckless out of nowhere!
>Tell Yu Yan she doesn’t need to worry about anything anymore, she’s completely free! But if she still wants to hang out with you guys, that's cool.

Dice Mechanic

We always roll 1d100!
I use the average (the mean) of the 4 best rolls and success will be determined by the difficulty I specify for the action or prompt. If there are less than 4 rolls I’ll do the math with the ones I have.
Above 45 is a success on a normal roll. Above 55 is a success on a hard roll. The hardest rolls I won’t specify because I find it more fun if I don’t.
Rolling over a 95 is a critical strike and ignores the other rolls!

We will roll after the voting is done.

“Let’s just watch TV like a dysfunctional family would…” You tell the ladies. Didn’t you need a phone to make this TV work?
“Alright!” Nariko takes the remote over the table next to your bed, and turns the TV on. Wait, it has connection? But it didn’t have it before! A-and the remote didn’t have batteries either! What is going on? Is your TV cursed?! Nariko lands on some foreign drama program, and immediately becomes hypnotized.
“That shit melts your brain, gimme that.” Yu Yan tries to take the control from Nariko, but the height disadvantage is too much for her.
“It’s my turn to decide what to watch…!” Nariko seems eager to watch her oriental show. Her grip over the remote is iron, and her eyes don't leave the screen.
“It’s bad! Gimme the remote!” Both are struggling in front of you, moving the bed.
“Girls…” You say as a stern father, to no avail.
“Yu Yan, Nariko. Behave.” Uccelli comes in with her teacher tone. “Give me the remote, you two lost your chance.”
“B-bu-bu-but…?” Nariko doesn’t seem happy anymore, but hands the remote anyway.
“No documentaries, I beg you…” Yu Yan tells Uccelli. She seems traumatized.
“I’ll put on the news.” Uccelli changes channels.

It’s been a while since you've last watched the news. Let’s see what it has in store for you:

>The opposition party for the election, led by Elicarto Lloydington, is pressuring the actual government to take action against the newly formed Cult! Yesterday across the country, there were 6 different attacks confirmed to involve Cult members, with 3 in the capitol – Pokyo Lokyo.

>Lloydington said the attacks were similar to the activities of the defunct terrorist group ‘The Hosts of Rebellion’, just on a smaller scale. Lloydington plead the government to take action immediately instead of letting the situation get out of control, just like before. Time will tell whether if he is heard or not.

>For the first time ever, the leader of the doomsday cult, Bernardo Ammirati, confronted the press! He publicly stated that the attacks were unrelated to the Cult’s activities, and offered help to the police to capture these ruffians. He has denied all allegations of any links to the terrorist group, or any other organization.

>The government has not released any direct response to this, but that they are working for everyone’s safety.

>The large population of cats living in the city continues to soar! One of the government’s branches decided to conduct a stray adoption campaign, where the government will actually pay you if you adopt a cat. Also more and more people are adopting ‘Gowlbuchens’, a native breed of dogs known for protecting homes from pests. Breeders are gaining thousands and thousands of Gor$ selling the peculiar-looking dogs to citizens tired of the cats.

>Youtube Celebrity Dog Chewirton, international phenomenon artist N A K A, and pop idol group POKYO LOGIC joined forces to create this phenomenal music vid—

You stop caring at this point. Nariko looks at Yu Yan and whispers something in her ear.

“You need to go to the bathroom?” Yu Yan says with no tact whatsoever. Nariko goes full red as she stares at you, then back at her, multiple times. “Don’t be like that, everyone goes to the bathroom…”
“I’ll take her there.” Uccelli takes over before Nariko can attempt speaking.
“What? You don’t think I can find the bathroom? Let’s go Nariko - we'll show her!” Yu Yan grabs your hobo’s hand and both leave the room.

You’re now alone with Uccelli.

“I’m glad you're fi—” Uccelli tries to say, but someone interrupts her by knocking on the door. The door slowly opens and a familiar sight appears… it’s Constance?! “C-Constance?!”
“Hi, Johnny and Ms. Uccelli, sorry for interrupting.” Constance says very apologetically as she struggles to close the door.
“Woah, you're not supposed to be here! Or move, for that matter…" Hey, she can get up, why can't you?! Oh wait, your entire body is in pain.
“Sorry, but there are more important matters here.” Athelone appears on her own! What the hell is going on?!
“We came here to talk…” Constance slowly walks towards you, and Nina ends up helping her sit on the bed next to you.

“I’m sorry, Little Constance, but I’m going to call the nurse. You can’t be here in your condition.” Uccelli is concerned.
“Stop. Constance is in condition to move now. We made some… adjustments.” Athelone smiles, pleased with herself. Totally not creepy at all! "Do you remember long ago, about our ability to sacrifice flames to strengthen others? We came here to act on that.”
“Hold up. What now?” You didn’t expect this!
“Did you really forget?” Athelone doesn’t seem pleased now, eyes looking down. “…It’s not that complex, really. You’re a smart gentleman, I think you understand the point here.”
“All my old friends decided willingly to help me out, but only those who wanted!” Constance says, pouting. “I didn’t want them away, but…”

“Yes, my little princess refused to do this until today. Now she feels stronger than ever before, so we came here to aid you too.” Athelone explains, patting Constance on the head, all cheerful again. “Since we’re playing by Constance’s rules, only the ones who were willing to sacrifice to you are going to help you out, Johnny. The fatal day is coming, and we need you ready.”
“Only if you want…” Constance says sternly, refusing to take anything for granted.
“Is this going to cure Johnny?” Nina’s eyes are sparkling with optimism.

“We will see. But look at what the others did for Constance. It’s going to be… glorious…” She sounded almost… turned on, for a moment there…

What's your decision?

>“Okay, bring them up! I’m ready to leave this dumb bed!” Accept the sacrifice! Those flames were doomed anyway!

“Hold on a sec. Who’s dying here…?” You shouldn’t have phrased like that…
“Two individuals who've tried to kill you before…” Athelone laughs too, enjoying it a bit too much. Way to make it creepier, demon nurse!
“Uhm… T-that’s the past! They're really eager to help you now! Here, hold my hand! We'll go talk to them.” Constance tries to embellish and clear up the situation, though what is holding her hand going to do anyway?
“Okay…” You hold Constance’s hands in yours, and her eyes start shining for a second. Athelone pulls our her strange-looking book. Two flames appear from within. One black and one white. She tenderly touches them both, transforming them into two caged creatures you faintly remember…

“It’s been a long time, Johnny Ando.” It’s… Nurmi… Nirma… “It’s me, Nermento-o.” Yeah, it’s him! The nice flame that lost the war, then turned evil and attacked you and your friends when the old clinic turned to hell! He even beat Chewirton! He’s one of the flames willing to sacrifice himself for you!
“It seems we meet again, young one. This time, as allies.” It’s… ehm… The bully Blake Wilkinson’s flame! The one who went full despair mode after his partner’s death! He's the other flame willing to sacrifice himself!

“W-what’s going on?” Uccelli asks, looking blankly at the air. Apparently she can’t see anything but Athelone doing her thing.
“Don’t worry, we’re just talking!” A confident smile from Constance calms Uccelli.

“Okay, I’m legit confused right now.” You couldn’t contain yourself.
“These two gentlemen are here to sacrifice themselves to aid you in your rehabilitation! Isn’t it great?” Athelone again sounds way too excited. “I’ll convert them into raw energy for Philonune to take in.”
“That’s good and all, but why are they helping me? It isn’t like we left on the best of terms.” Memories of Blake getting brutally run over, and a powered-up Nermento-o being smashed by a high-speed piano, flash in your mind for a brief moment.

“I came here to atone for the sins I've committed. Watching from the sidelines after what I've done is only eating my soul in shame and dishonor. Give me this chance for redemption, Johnny.” Nermento-o explains. He bows too. What a guy! You turn to the white flame.
“I will only join forces with a fallen angel after my suffering. The Creator’s light, the one I spread and upheld, only guided me to a purgatory beyond belief. I want my revenge, and if I must become a tool to vandalize his facade – then so be it. It will be enough for me.”
“Can’t believe you're willing to sacrifice yourself, after everything you tried to do to me. Can’t help but smile – Ethinael.” Philonune chimes in condescendingly, smirking. His hollow black eyeholes stare into Ethinael's eyes.
“I lament the fact you were correct about our false creator, but I now wish to cement this new bond of ours.” He bows to Philonune now. Nermento-o gives Ethinael a look, then turns back to Philonune.

“You two have history?” You turn and ask Philonune. You knew he was a fallen angel, just like one of the white flame entities, but they still know him?
Philonune chuckles, as if remembering a funny joke someone told. “Another one of the thousands of enemies I made when I bowed out of heaven. In the grand scheme of things, I really can’t hold a grudge against him.” Philonune nods, smiling in a friendly way – but you feel something else from him, something you can't quite place. Why is everyone acting like this?

“We will make you stronger, but you will have to promise decisive victory over the Creator.” Ethinael pleads solemnly. "An uneven measure will be disastrous for all of us."
Nermento-o shrugs. “I’m just asking for forgiveness. We might be shadows of our former selves, but with our help you'll take your enemies down. Our actions won't be in vain any longer." He clutches one of his hands in a determined fist.

What a strange duo you’re dealing with here! This feels like an important decision…!

“You sure you want this? There's no turning back…” You ask both… men? Are they men? Should you call them men? Whatever, point is you need to make sure they're in the right state of mind, and not being pressured into it by Athelone or something.
“When the opportunity arrived, I didn’t hesitate. Please Johnny – make me feel part of something historic. Something worthwhile.” Nermento-o has no trace of doubts in his mind.
“Let us be.” Ethinael follows up Nermento-o. “I was misguided for a long time; almost blinded. But now that I've found the way – I refuse to avert my eyes from my goal.”

You turn to Uccelli, maybe looking for confirmation or any guidance of sorts...

“One succeeded in killing one of my students, and the other tried to kill us all. As much as I don't like them, I know this is their chance to amend things.” Uccelli responds, focused on where the two entities float in the air.
“Wait, you can hear it all?” This is new information!
“Yeah, but I can’t see them.” Uccelli smiles.
“Why didn’t you say anything?”
“I didn't think it was pertinent. Sorry about that…” Nina seems to have reconsidered her actions. It’s not like she did anything wrong!

You turn back to the floating sacrifices. “Then… welcome aboard, I guess. And thank you. Sorry about making you guys go through all that, but it was life-or-death, you know?” You tell both entities, who nod in unison.
Nermento-o sighs a tired sigh. “That’s war… And thank you too, Johnny.” Nermento-o says for the last time.
“Dust will be all that's left of the Creator's foundations, by the time we're done with them!” Ethinael laughs, sounding as if relieved of a long-carried burden. Philonune laughs with him, but more relaxed and casual.

Athelone turns the caged entities back to flame form, then plays with them like putty in her hands, until they turn into two marshmallows. One dark, and one white.

“…” You silently stare at them both, feeling very cheated for some reason. Out of the corner of your eyes, you can see Uccelli with a blank openmouthed stare, like someone put an extremely convoluted student exam in front of her without preparation.
“Here, Philonune. Devour them.” Athelone makes them float up to your partner.
“What? Just like that…? I never took you for the joking type, Athelone!” Philonune feels cheated too, to the point where his smile shrinks to a small wry one, but his voice betrays his disbelief. Now that you think about it, how does this even work for entities without mouths?
“I can feed them to Johnny too, but he's already made up his mind – it’s your turn now.” Athelone explains sweetly.

“Fine then. I wonder how these taste…” Philonune eats both marshmallows. "Hmmm… Tastes odd… Is this what those human foods called 'confectionary' taste like?"
Immediately, you feel an immense rush of power like never before in your life…! Then you fart anticlimactically. It’s a done deal! Uccelli and Constance stare at you with big expectations.

“I feel… decent... and kind of itchy!” You move your arms a little, feeling not even close to the severe pain you felt before!
“All of that, just for 'decent'…?” Uccelli seems disappointed.
“Hey, you don’t understand how amazing this feels!” You feel rejuvenated, as if you didn't undergo a massive ass-kicking just the other day!
“Ask the doctor to inspect you. I’m pretty sure you still need some physical healing, though I'm no human health expert!” She looks like a creepy nurse though, hat and everything! “Now take my little princess to her room.” She vanishes.

“I-I can go there myself! I’m not tired!” Constance pouts up at where Athelone was floating, as the two of you stare at her.
“You still need to be in bed.” Uccelli says, standing up and walking to the door. “I’m going to call one of the nurses.”
“…Why did she leave if there's a call button?” Constance asks you once your girlfriend leaves.
“I dunno.” You shrug without any pain whatsoever!

After one nurse came by to take Constance to her room, you really find yourself alone with your girlfriend. Both of you stare at each other, waiting for someone to say something.

What now?

>Call Nurse Calamity and tell her you're out of here! Time to head back to your apartment and see what's going on there…
>Go and search for the two buffoons that left an hour ago… They should be around somewhere, shouldn't they? Maybe Yu Yan is giving Nariko the tour?

“Wanna keep watching TV? We can cuddle if you want, I feel much better now.”
“But Nariko and Yu Yan can be here any moment…” She’s hiding the fact she wants to cuddle so badly. She’s terrible at hiding that stuff from you.
“Just get closer, please.”
“A-alright…” She moves the chair next to your bed. When she gets close enough you steal a kiss! She kisses back, what a nice moment. “E-enough, remember it’s a secret.”
“Yeah, I know. But I can’t contain myself when you’re this cute.”
“Cute? Don’t you see this big patch? I didn’t sleep either, I must look horrible…”
“You never look horrible to me.”
“…You don’t either.” She’s all red. You mile and turn on the TV.

You two silently watch a third-rate show. You should probably change the channel, but the mundanity of this feels comforting.

“You know…” Uccelli starts saying. “I had to hold back my tears until I made sure everyone was asleep. Comforting your sister, especially in the state she was in, was one of the most difficult things I've ever done in my life. Some of my students have come close in the past, but never like this.”
“…I’m sorry, I really fucked up this time.” Shit. But really, Amelia cries for anything.
Uccelli frowns at you, but the frown goes away. “Don’t say that. This time it wasn’t your fault, you did your best. Like you always do, huh?” Kind of; the ‘No U’ at the start of the fight cost you, but you still feel it was worth being cheeky like that to Flint.

And so, you watched TV together enjoying each other’s company. Eventually, Nariko and Yu Yan appeared roughly 3 hours later. Yu Yan appears to have been stuck playing a card game with the others out in the clinic lobby. She said she won some from Bradford. Nariko stuck with her, because she didn’t remember what room you were in, and was too shy to ask someone about it. Poor girl. You really should take her out more to do wonders for her self-confidence.

After they arrived, everyone ate dinner together in your room. The time for visits was shortly over after that, and everyone left to Nina’s apartment again. At least they have the comfort of knowing that you’re fine now.
Right now Nurse Calamity is checking on you, enjoying herself way too much for your comfort…

“Oh my! This is really a pleasant surprise!” She says without an ounce of sarcasm. Your miraculous recovery has impressed the professional side of her, it seems.
“See? I told you I got better.”
“Handsome and lucky, what a pack. Fufufufu… I guess it won’t be necessary for you to stay any longer here. You're clear to return home tomorrow.” She smiles proudly at you; a patient ready to be discharged.
“Woah, really?!”

“Oh my, so excited aren't we? But yes, only if someone takes care of you that is. You’re not fully healed yet, despite the sudden changes.” She writes something in her clipboard report. “My uncle woke a few minutes ago. He was so worried about everyone. The best feeling as a nurse is telling your patient that everything is fine.” She shakes her body in excitement.

“That’s great news. I always knew the doc was a tough guy.” Dr. Calamity has done a lot for you ever since hiring you for the clinic cleanup job. You respect him a lot. “So if I want to leave right now, I can?”
Nurse Calamiity suddenly becomes flustered. “W-what? You want to leave me all alone so quickly?”
“I’m just saying, it’s not really that late – I could get home no problem.” It’s almost 10 PM! This is nothing!
“You’re not going anywhere alone, didn’t you hear me, handsome?” Nurse Calamity reprimands you.

She did say 'alone'… So what now?

>Call Craig, maybe he can get you home safely! You know thanks to Constance you can be alone no problem, but you remember being told Craig found out about Nariko and Yu Yan…
>Stay the night here without leaving anywhere; rushing things hasn’t done you any favors. Besides, you have no idea how Philonune is, now that he got the energy transfer from the two entities…
>Stay the night here, but go check on Bradford, Trent, Constance, Calamity, or Richard the detective guy. Maybe they're still awake and you can talk to them before you sleep? (Choose Two.)

Trent because we have no clue what happened to him except he took on Flint at one point after we were out.
Calamity because we heard he got fucked up, but don't know how bad.

“Yeah my bad. I’m staying, don’t worry. Can I visit the others while I’m here?”
“Of course, this is a clinic not a prison. I might need to accompany you depending on who you are interested in seeing.” Nurse Calamity checks her notes.
“I’m thinking about visiting the doc first.”
“Oh… my dear uncle. Please follow me.” She gets a little gloomy, but doesn’t lose the sass in her walk. You trail behind her, enjoying the view and the new clinic, way bigger and less creepy than the last one – even though it looks so white and polished, it has the air of an insane asylum.

You arrive at the last floor of the clinic, where Doctor Calamity is in intensive care.

“It’s late, so it’s going to be a short visit. Okay?” Nurse Calamity says, before opening the Doc’s room door.
“Yeah…” This gives you a bad feeling.

Nurse Kata shows you her dear uncle; he’s in a pretty bad shape – with an air mask, tubes going into his arms from a few steadily-beeping machines, and breathing heavily on the bed.

“Hey uncle, Johnny came to visit.” Nurse Calamity says tenderly.
“…” Doctor Calamity opens his eyes, and stares at you while keeping his head motionless. “Hey… boy…” The words barely escape the doctor’s mouth.
“Hey Dr. Calamity…”
“I’m… glad… you… are… fine…” The voice is scarcely audible. He gives you a thumb up with the minimal movement he can do.
“I’m glad you’re fine too. Sorry about what happened.”
“…” The doc slowly shakes his head. Then he gives you another thumbs up. You see the corners of his mouth slowly raise into a grin.

“He’s in rough shape now, but he'll get better the more he rests. Uff… I’m getting a little emotional.” Nurse Kata hand-waves her face as she turns away. “Now Uncle needs to rest.” She tells you, but you know it's meant for Dr. Calamity too.
“Goodbye, doc. I’ll see you later.” You give him a thumb up back. He slowly nods before dozing off. Well, that was depressing, but not entirely? You two leave the good doctor to his rest.

“Anyone else you want to see?” Nurse Calamity seems afflicted.
“…” You are swallowing what you just saw. You suddenly realize that that could have been you lying on that bed, attached to machines tracking your vitals, unable to breathe or function properly without assistance. The thought genuinely chills you.

From the edge of your vision, you see Philonune looking back at Calamity's room, then back at you. You look back at him.
His eyes are wide. So are yours.
He's not smiling. Neither are you.

“Handsome?”
You snap out of your reverie. “Oh, sorry… What'd you just say?”
“Maybe the beating is affecting you now, hmmm?” She smiles at you, changing the subject.
“I guess it did.” Not the way she’s thinking, though.

“So who's next? Hopefully it’s no one in intensive care.”
“Oh, Trent. I hear he got pretty beaten up.”
“Rats… Fine, follow me.” Nurse Calamity doesn’t look one bit pleased, scowling. “You’ll have to help me with this boy.”

You head back to the same floor you were in before, enter a new room, and there he is – wearing his best Constance cosplay while sitting on the windowsill, watching the street outside. He turns to see you.

“Yo Johnny.” Trent says without a care in the world.
“F-for the last time Mr. Figg, you should be in your bed!” Kata doesn’t seem one bit pleased.
“Tch, it’s no different than what I’m doing.” Trent shushes Kata away.
“You need to stay in bed, and he—” Kata tries to say, but gets quickly interrupted.
“So what’s up with you Johnny? Heard you were hurt badly – but you look fine to me.” Trent interrupts the nurse, full attention on you.
“Dude, I’m full of bandages. I'd throw up bandages if I got hit once.” You tell him, gesturing at yourself.
Trent smirks briefly, then stops himself. “That look on your face is not from someone who's hurting.” Trent says, again without any care at all. His gaze goes up and down, probably trying to figure out what happened to you.

Nurse Calamity grabs your arm. “Johnny, please help me with him. He’s being the worst behaving patient I’ve ever had, and frankly I have no idea what to do.”
“You know what to do, lady. And you’re even a worse professional than I thought, asking your patients for help. Gimme a break!” Trent starts laughing, but then his body starts hurting enough for him to stop midway, cringing in pain and suppressed frustration.

What do you do?

>“Trent, you need to start paying attention to what Nurse Calamity's saying. We got our asses kicked hard enough as it is. You don't have to push yourself.” Dude, at least you're not dead!
>“So what’s your problem with her? I don’t get it.” It's been a good half a day almost since the fight started. Why are Nurse Kata and Trent at each other's throats like this?!
>“Sorry Nurse, can’t do much – he’s always like that. Besides, he's probably gone through worse. I think he'll be just fine, so you gotta relax.” Try having faith in the delinquent!

“So what’s your problem with her? I don’t get it.” You scratch the back of your head in confusion. “Besides, I’ve been beaten worse before, remember?” You address his previous point.
“Heh, Good point.” Trent smiles at your comment, reminiscing about the beat down he gave you like a work of art he’s proud of. “Ehem… Just look at her and tell me what ya see.” Trent responds. You look at the nurse, who briefly smiles and poses.
“A… nurse?” You really don’t get his point.
“Something like 'cheap street hooker' would’ve been an acceptable answer too.” As soon as he finishes talking, a scalpel zooms through the air and embeds point-first in the wall, right next to his head! “I wasn’t really complaining, lady.” He replies without missing a beat, not even flinching once.
“It was a reflex. You’re making me lose my temper.” Kata’s whole demeanor changes and becomes extremely threatening!

“Guys, remember why we're here…” You tell them both, trying to make them see sense. Is everyone you know dysfunctional?! “What’s your point, Trent? Please, with no backhanded insults this time.”
“Alright. The question is: Is she a nurse?” Trent pulls out the scalpel and starts absentmindedly playing with it. “No. She's not. She ain’t takin' this seriously, so I’m not takin' her seriously. Plain and simple." Are these two really this petty!? You thought it was something more serious than this!
“Trent, she's still a professional doctor.” Appearance and mannerisms aside, you mean.

“Guess who ended up saving your life, tough guy?” Nurse Calamity chimes in. Trent shrugs at her, hurting himself a little. Kata gets visibly angrier. “The only one you’re hurting here with that attitude is yourself… and even as a doctor, I’m not going to hide the fact I enjoying seeing you suffer.” She smirks viciously. Trent glares back, keeping his face still to avoid further pain. The hatred in the air is palpable…
“I’m very well aware, lady.” He says the word with enough emphasis that you can figure out what he really meant. He goes back to watching the streets, playing with the scalpel. “If you don’t wanna talk about something more important, you can take a hike.” Trent waves both of you away. Looks like you ended up making him angry too, but he'll get over it once here out of here.

What do you do?

>“Well, okay. See ya, and thanks for helping us out yesterday.” This is dumb, just thank him and leave. It's not even worth getting yourself caught up in this BS!
>“C’mon Trent, you’re better than this. Nurse is doing everything in her power to help you, and besides – the sooner you heal, the sooner you'll leave this place.”

“C’mon Trent, you’re better than this. The Nurse is doing everything in her power to help you, and besides – the sooner you heal, the sooner you'll leave this place.” You tell your least favorite piece of archeology in this clinic.
“If I wanted to leave, I would ask for a damn transfer.” Trent is not impressed by your response.
“Trent, just get in bed and listen to the nice nurse. Doctor Calamity believed in her skills, what makes you better than that? Besides, things are going to get crazier from now on, and we need everyone in better shape.”
“…” He stares at you with pure anger.

“…The hell are you looking at me like that for? What are you even planning to do? Break your other leg?” You snark at him to put him in his place.
“Heh, fine.“ Trent grins, finally seeing some sense – then he turns to the nurse, looking stern and not furious. “I expect better next time, got it?”
“I promise you will feel better. Nothing more.” Calamity gets closer to Trent and helps him to his bed.
“Guess I’ll see you later.” This whole exchange made you exhausted, even after the marshmallow powerup.
“Yeah yeah…” Trent tries to watch the outside from the position he’s in, while you and the Nurse leave the room.

“Thanks, handsome.” Kata says as she closes the door behind her.
“You'll have to deal with him having a scalpel now, so I wish you the best.” You joke. “Uh… I need a drink.”
“Fufufufu, let’s go back to your room. I’ll give you my special treatment…” She helps you to your room.
“…Does that come with a drink?"

After drinking a glass of water, and receiving a nice back massage from the nurse, you find yourself extremely relaxed on the bed. You have your phone in your hand. Maybe you could prepare something for tomorrow…?

Maybe you can quickly skim over your messages and go to sleep, you’re too tired to think about what to do tomorrow.

Sweet lord almighty, you have a crapton of messages! Even from people whose numbers you don't have! Okay, that’s an exaggeration, but holy moly – this could take a while:

>The first one is from Osgood.
He’s basically apologizing for not coming to your aid sooner, and all that bullcrap you know about her girlfriend taking him to a fancier clinic. If the reports are true, he saved your ass and finished off Flint alone. Whew!

>The second one is from Henry.
He’s apologizing for not coming today to visit you, since he needed to deal with unexpected business. Probably the detention. Says he’s going to visit you as soon as he's able.

>The third one is from Matilda
It’s a pretty long one. She says after the events that happened yesterday, she did some research about everyone involved in the case:

Valdemar Bruun is the name of the cultist that had 3 entities. She said the police took him and his lackeys to the Grand Hospital – but at some point, the man escaped alone. The other ditched cultists are now in prison. So unless you have a way to infiltrate the place, they're out of your reach.

She also talked about T.T. Neko and pretty much backed what Bradford pieced together, except for a little note saying that she’s still a better freelancer than this second-rate spinster. She did mention that the biggest congregation of cats is near your apartment. Maybe you should check that out?
She also got a hold of one of T.T. Neko’s lackeys, and pretty much confirmed Bradford’s suspicions about them being amateurs with no real knowledge of what’s happening.

The detective Richard Wright was tracking Constance, so she told you to keep an eye on him. It appears he read the cultists' moves, and was there to protect her in time. You're still getting used to knowing he's a sane white flame user that isn't brainwashed like the rest.

Matilda also has some notes on Ka-Shing. After having a little chat with Constance, she confirmed her suspicions. In the corporation’s building, they built something that's attracting the rogue flames like a magnet. She noted that Nariko’s must be there. Also, they are fortifying the building, as they are preparing for the day of the fight. One last thing: they hired private doctors for Flint Masterson, and he’s currently resting inside the place. She said that next time she’s going to help you beat the guy. Where did that last part come from? You'll have to ask her about that.

>The fourth one is from Terry.
He read about what happened to you from Scarlet, and said he can’t really leave the house until his parents come back. He wished you well, and that he already knows what to do with Scarlet – you know, about the bet.

>The fifth one is from Craig.
He told you not to worry about anything, but you would have to talk about the hobo situation soon. Uh-oh… But he’s really stressing that you don’t need to worry, so things might be okay?

>The sixth one is from Amelia’s new number.
She wished you well! And one important thing; it dawned on her while she was resting that maybe the information old Yu Yan had about the crystal, is inside the computer you stole from Lise’s mom! Holy shit, if that’s true – imagine the possibilities! Amelia also asked you about the incident your stepdad had years ago, the one when he fell down the stairs and was carried unconscious to the hospital. Amelia says Ms. Uccelli acted the exact same way mom did that one time, the way she stared at you… She also said to forget that and how does one delete a message in Chat-Now?

>The seventh one is from Uccelli.
For some reason, this one has terrible grammar, which you translated to ‘I know you always stare at my big magumbos you pervert, I wouldn’t mind if you touch them lol’… Wait, no – it’s a prank text from Yu Yan. The real Uccelli said so later, but also sent you a shame pic of Yu Yan with a sign that read ‘I won’t steal Uccelli’s phone again and send pranks texts to every single one of her contacts.’

>The last one is from Roger Jackson, the ex-police officer!
He found out an hour ago what happened to you, and told you to stay strong. He also told you to remember the basics of CQC next time.

…And that’s it.

Time to get a good night rest now… You fall asleep, seeing Calamity and Trent in your mind, then Ethinael and Nermento-o reaching out to you…

It’s Friday, May 26th! And 6 AM, what the hell?

“Johnny, it’s time for your pills.” It’s Nurse Calamity waking you up.
“Bleeeh…” That’s the sound that came out of your mouth.
“Maybe you shouldn’t have moved yesterday. You'll have to stay another week here at this rate!” You hear Kata giggling from the side.
“No, no, no, I’m fine… See?” You regain your composure and flex your muscles.
“Well, take your pills, handsome. You can go back to sleep then.” She smiles.

What do you do aside from taking these pills?

>“Can I go home now?” Ask the Nurse, maybe she can take you there, or call someone to do so!
>“Is Constance awake?” Maybe you can pass time with your favorite volleyball-headed girl!
>“How is everyone else doing?" Calamity probably hasn't gotten any better overnight, but maybe someone else is already out?

“Is Constance awake?”
“She’s the earliest of birds, of course she is.” Kata checks her notes.
“Can I visit her?”
“I wouldn’t say no to you, handsome. She was the next one I needed to check out. Follow me.”

You follow Nurse Calamity to Constance’s new room! It has a window with a nice view too! They really upped the quality here, also she has a TV. She’s reading a book you've never seen before.

“Dear Constance, I’m back! And I have a surprise for you.” Nurse Calamity is enjoying herself.
“Huh?” Constance’s eyes leave the book and look at the both of you, and she instantly brightens up. “Johnny!”
“Hey, I came to pass the time with you. If you don’t mind, that is.”
“No, I don’t!” Constance is all giddy.
“Hold on, little miss. I need to check on you first.” Nurse Kata struts up, smiling more than you are.
“Sure!” Constance’s happiness is over the roof!

It never really dawned on you how bad Constance’s condition was, until you saw her do those little breathing exercises and other things Nurse Calamity needed to check. You did your best to not let the realization show on your face and ruin the mood.

“Oh my, so much better too! Maybe we could use these entities as a revolutionary cure!” Kata laughs at her joke.
“B-but you need a flame for it to work...” Constance took it seriously.
“Details details, little missy. Maybe you could join me as another miracle nurse too.” Kata jokes again, winking.
“Uhm… Uhm… But I’m really tired of being in hospitals though.” Again, Constance took it seriously. Constance is a lot more mature than you gave her credit for, with that honest response…
“But where else would you see smiles like yours?” Kata headpats Constance.
“Hmm... Hmm…” Constance doesn’t know how to respond while being headpatted.
“I’m going to go check on the rest, you two have fun together.” Nurse Calamity leaves you alone with Constance.

“Uhm… Your overweight friend Bradford, he gave me these.” She shows you a bunch of cards. The Sparks of Luck game Osgood and Ka-Shing played together. “I didn’t have any luck, and he beat me.” Beating a small child; how low!
“I see…” Man, these cards sure are strangely familiar… You can't quite put your finger on exactly why, though…
“This is my favorite one.” It’s called The Little Princess of Corruption. She coincidentally looks just like Constance! “You can have that one, I have more of those.” Constance smiles as warm as the sun outside her window.
“Thanks.” You now have one of those cards. Maybe it might bring you good luck?
“But… I don’t know if I really like this game.” Constance says as she stares intently at the other cards she has.

Is this game really for children? Anyway, it’s time for you to spend some time with Constance.

What do you do?

“Mmh. Maybe we could read a book.” You propose to the little girl. You were thinking of taking her for a walk outside for fresh air, but knowing how many people are after her for her Judge powers, you decided against it.
“That sounds great!” She’s bouncing on her bed from excitement. It's kinda weird seeing her so energetic. “Inside that wardrobe there's a bunch of books Nurse Calamity bought me.” Constance points behind you.
“What about the one you’re reading?”
“Uhm… I’m halfway through. I don’t think you want to start reading it from the middle.” She has a point.

“Alright, anyone in particular?”
“Uhm… Uhm… I haven’t checked them out. But whatever you pick will be fine!” The bubbly mummy says.
“Alright then…” You got to the awfully placed wardrobe, open it, and at the top there is a bunch of new-looking books next to spare patient clothing. How was Constance supposed to reach these? Maybe with Athelone’s help she could, but that’s not the point! It’s still too high! You start checking the books…

These books don’t give you the best vibes, to be quiet honest. You have Kata's morbid taste to blame for that. Does being creepy run in the Calamity family or something? Anyway, which book do you pick?

>“A Murder Clown in Fun Happy Town.” The cover shows a boy in a raincoat crouched down by a street drain, and a clown is in there, holding a balloon. Why is the balloon tan-colored, and with a human face on it?!
>“The Empress of the Roses and the Tax Evasion Policies.” The cover shows a woman with glasses, wearing a very skimpy dress made only of roses, looking over a big document with lots of hard-to-read text on it. Nice!
>“The Animal Farm II: This time the pigs die.” The cover shows a group of fat pigs in various human clothing running from an angry mob of human farmers and their other animals. Looks like bacon is on the menu, boys!
>“Magical New Leaf.” There is a cute girl wearing a witch hat on the cover and… there is a small hippopotamus. This one really stands out from the others in how cute it is! But, knowing Nurse Calamity, there's gotta be a twist in there somewhere…

“Okay, here's one that looks decent…” You take ‘Magical New Leaf’. It’s the least… strange of the bunch. “Have you ever heard about Magical New Leaf?”
“Nu-uh.” She shakes her cute volleyball head. “Uhm, do you think it’s good?”
You have to pretend this is a good book. “No.” Fuck, you can't!
“Then the book can surprise us!” God bless this girl’s optimism.
“Ehm, do you want me to read it out loud, or do I sit next to you and we read it together?” You have never done something like this before, not even with Amelia.
“I would prefer if you read it."
“Alright. I'll need a glass of water later.”
“I have a bottle right here.” She points to her right, and there's one on the table.
“Okay then, let’s start this wonderful journey called ‘Magical New Leaf’…” You cannot help but say that sarcastically.

And you read it…! It seems to be volume one of a few, this one about a young girl called ‘Artemisa’ and her enrollment in the magic witch academy of… fighting…? What…? She has a small talking hippopotamus as her mascot. The book goes through her years in the academia and how she wants to change the world with her pacifist magic, whatever that is. It’s a rough book, with some inconsistencies throughout, and the main character keeps contradicting herself. In its defense, the book does have some heartfelt and imaginative moments, but nothing great so far.

Maybe it gets better later. You’re halfway through it since it’s not long. Judging by Constance’s expression, she’s not enjoying the book too much.

Talk about how weirdly inconsistent the main character is, and how hippos are actually horrible death in semiaquatic mammal form, rather than cute.

“Are you not liking the book, Constance? I could get you another one if you want.”
“Uh? N-no! I’m really liking it! It’s just that I look really mad when I pay attention.” That sounds like bullshit, but you believe it.
“You sure? I’m not going to get mad if you want to read something else.”
“Maybe you're the one not liking it!” Constance points that out; she knows!
“I mean, the main character is pretty inconsistent.”
“Artemisa is just too passionate!” Constance counterarguments.
“Also, hippos are actually horribly deathly in semiaquatic mammal from, rather than cute. Like mini swimming tanks.” Same thing you stressed to Amelia about bears, especially hers.
“But Hippink is cute! Look at the cover! Oh, that reminds me. I think Artemisia is a card too.”
“A card?”
“Yeah, this one!” Constance shows you the Sparks of Luck card. “See? The… same… as the cover…” Constance slowly realizes how lazily the card was really made.
“…I can continue reading if you want.”
“I’m not going to make you do something you don’t like… I want both of us to have fun!”

You hear someone knocking on the door! It’s Bradford with a smug look on his face.

“Hi Constance…! Johnny bro?! What a pleasure seeing you here!” Bradford seems fairly surprised, but takes it in stride.
“Hey Bradford.”
“Hi!” Constance waves, full of energy.
“What are you doing here if you don’t mind me asking?” Bradford asks you, you minding only a little.
“I’m reading a book with Constance." You hold up the bad fantasy slice-of-life novel.
“Johnny's not enjoying it though…” Constance sounds almost disappointed in you, even though she feels the same way!
“Well, I have the perfect activity we all can enjoy.” From his pocket, he shows you more Sparks of Luck cards. “Wanna play? I can lend you some.”

Did he come all this way here just to beat a little girl in a children’s card game?! What’s wrong with him? What do you do?

>“We’re not playing that dumb game now, Bradford. We’re reading books.” Shush him away. If he wants to do something here, he can go help Nurse Kata.
>“Did you really come all the way here to beat a sickly child in a card game? What’s wrong with you man?” You’re starting to understand Lise a lot more now.
>“Bring it – but if you lose, you leave.” Show Constance how cool you are! How hard can it be to win at a children's card game?
>“Okay fine, let’s try this thing out…” You're completely inexperienced at this, but so was Osgood, and he played hard enough to get you Ka-Shing's money!

Before we start the game, I need to know 2 things:

First decision: Do you want to play the game, or just roll the dice to decide the victor?

>Play Game. (Could take a while!)
>Just Roll Dice. (It's faster!)

Second decision, if you choose to play: Which card do you want to use as a Contender (Your main card)?

Also, ask Bradford how we can determine how rare the cards we find are. Like with Magic: the Gathering, how a certain symbol is colored differently depending if it's common, uncommon, rare or mythic. Gotta start collecting them to sell them back years later at a huge markup to nostalgia-addled otaku hordes.

“Okay fine, let’s try this thing out…” You tell Bradford, who looks jubilant.
“Go Johnny! Beat Braford!” Constance is supporting you from the sidelines!
“Let’s use Constance’s bed as a table! You know the rules?”
“No idea...” Osgood does, but he ain't here.

Bradford explains the rules:

---------
RULES

>It’s a card game played with a 6 faced dice.
>You have two types of cards, Contenders and Effects. You start by drawing 3 Effect cards.
>The objective of the game is to defeat the opponent’s Contenders!
>The Contender is your main guy in the game; he has life points, attack points and defense points.

The Game consists of 3 phases:
>First Phase is putting your Effects card (only one) in play facedown. You can reveal its ability in one of the other two phases.
>Second Phase is both players throwing the dice to see who attacks first! The one who throws the bigger number is the one who will attack (unless an Effect card says otherwise!). You can activate your Effect card if you want to.
>Third Phase is attacking and defending depending on who is attacking. You can also activate your Effect card if you want to. If you don’t use your Effect card, it goes back to your hand.
>Repeat until one contender is defeated!
>If you use up all your Effect cards, you can draw 3 more, until your maze is emptied! (Max 12 Cards.)

>Life Points are how much damage the card can take before getting KO’ed!
>Attack Points are how much damage is added to the dice rolls while attacking!
>Defense Points are how much damage you don’t take when you decide to defend!

>In the battle phase, if you are attacking, you only need to roll the dice to see how much damage you are doing.
>In the battle phase, if you are defending, you can either choose to defend or to dodge!
>If you defend, the damage you receive is the attacking roll of your opponent minus the defending roll you threw, if you somehow defend more than your opponent’s damage, you will still receive 1 damage regardless.
>If you dodge, and your rolled number is greater than your opponent's, you receive no damage! Otherwise, you receive full damage. Boosts aren’t counted here, only when calculating damage!
>All modifiers are counted immediately.

Have fun!
--------
“I think I get it…” You say reluctantly.
“Excellent! Here, have some cards.”
“There are no Contenders cards here…”
“T-those are expensive.” Suddenly Bradford becoms apprehensive.
“Give me one, you cheapstake.”
“I-I gave some to Constance. She can give you one.”
“C’mon man…”
“Alright, here, have this one… Good-bye, baby girl.” Is he getting emotional?! Well, you got 'The Angry Spirit of the Forest' for your intimidation efforts.

Get your game on!

Bradford picked “The Ice Goddess of Sorrow” (LP:9 AP:2 DP:0)!
Johnny picked “The Angry Spirit of the Forest!” (LP:7 AP:2 DP:1)!

“Sacré Bleu…! I cannot believe this! That pool game wasn’t a mere coincidence, then!” An astonished Bradford exclaims. Have you ever mentioned how bad Bradford’s French accent sounds? Because it is, and it’s worth mentioning.
“Woah! Johnny kicked your butt!” Constance rubs it in.
"Ha! You’re a third-rate duelist, with a fourth-rate deck! You say as smugly as you are capable of, including adjusting your glasses, and channeling… a certain egotistical someone. Not even winning at poker made you feel this good!
“B-but I lent you some of my cards! Besides, I wasn’t playing seriously…” Bradford attempts to joke back.
“Hee hee, but you’re still a third-rate duelist…! Uh… but how do you rate them?” Constance didn’t completely understand your joke.

“You countered my every move, I didn’t expect this much of a fight. Guess this little missy isn’t that good a card against a beginner, shame. Here, you can have it.” You received ‘The Ice Goddess of Sorrow’ card from Bradford. “Now gimme back my Angry Spirit of the Forest, please.”
“No.” You instantly reply, deadpan.
“S-sure… that’s fine.” Bradford seems fond of that card for some reason. Weird.
“Now that I think about it, we should have bet some booster packs.”
“T-too late for that, you can keep those cards no problem, dude. They're not rare.” Bradford shrugs, having accepted his loss quickly.
“Uhm, you can have this Artemisa card too, Johnny. Another one of those came out from the book.” Constance gives you ‘Artemisa, The Witch in Training’ card. Slowly, you’re getting more of these… What could it mean?

“So Bradford, how can we determine how rare the cards are? Usually, they have a symbol to show how rare they are, yeah?”
“Ohohoho! Getting interested in the game, huh?” Bradford grins.
“Nah, I’m thinking about collecting some and selling them back years later at a huge markup to nostalgia-addled otaku hordes.”
“A-aren’t you going to become god by winning the war, or something like that? Why would you care about card games then?” Bradford looks incredulous.
"Wow dude, thanks for making this whole thing depressing.” You joke sarcastically.

“S-sorry. Anyway, they have little star marks at the bottom showing how rare they are. The more the better. Also there are special collections like that Witch card – I think that came in some random books of her series. But if you want to really sell these, you should only try to collect Contender Cards. They are the only ones worth a damn.” Bradford explains while showing one of this cards, so you can see the stars at the bottom side. “1 star is common, 2 star is uncommon and 3 stars are rare. A rainbow star means it’s a special collection. All Contenders are at least Uncommon.”

“I see…” You stare at the 3 cards he gave you. The 2 of them are Uncommon, except the witch one is Rainbow. “So how much do these cost?”
“20 bucks each. Those aren’t that rare, but getting a Contender in a booster pack is painful as it is. The standard deck ones are 10 bucks.”
“Got it…” You keep staring at them. Why do these look so familiar to you?!

You hear someone knocking on the door. Who will be this time?

“Hello, Constance. I came here to ask you more ques—” It’s the detective guy, Richard something! He stops talking the moment he spots you and Bradford. “What are you guys doing?” He comes closer and spots the cards. The moment he does, he suddenly becomes more animated, eyes gleaming in suppressed excitement.
“W-wanna play?” Bradford asks as naively as he can.
“No… Sorry for interrupting, I need to talk to Constance. But first, you guys played these cards?” The detective asks, talking fast.
“I do. I collect them; these two play casually.” Bradford says without a care in the world.
“Is Headpats still meta?!” The Detective seems a little hyped.
“Of course she is! She got nerfed though, nothing too major. They also buffed Samurai and Ice Goddess, but they're still outclassed by the usual counters except in a few new combos.” Bradford says to the enthusiastic member of the police force. He smiles contentedly at the metagame news.

The detective finally detects you and Constance staring at him with confusion. He looks taken aback briefly, before regaining his professional composure. “E-ehem. Sorry. I used to play this with my little brother." Something about his expression as he says this, looks sad to you for some reason. "Anyway, can I talk to your partner, Constance?"
“Athelone says I can’t trust you, sorry.” Constance replies in a disappointed tone, but her eyes narrow in suspicion.
“Why do you need to talk to her?” You ask the detective. Before he could open his mouth to explain a thing, he rapidly turns to the window, spinning on the spot. A fat-looking cat floats inside the room from the open window, with a letter in his mouth! He lands on the floor, drops the letter, and stares at the crew.

“Meow.” The cat meows in an extremely deep bass voice you never thought possible for cats.
“What the fuck…?” You and the Detective say in unison.
“T.T. Neko…!” Bradford says, trying to act sharp.

Sadly this is all for this week’s thread! Thanks for playing! (Will Post a drawing either today or tomorrow. So Stay tune.)
