Hey y'all. If you couldn't tell, this quest will be taking place in the well known DC Comics universe. Here there be gods and monsters, magicians and aliens, and even a clown or two. But bear in mind that due to various time travel related and or multiversal shenanigans, the DC world is ridiculously complex as a whole. So I'll be running a very streamlined version of it. And to be up front about it, it will likely be shaped by my own likes, dislikes, and biases.
Oh, and aforementioned shenanigans won't be making an appearance.
Mostly.

>The Rules
I will write up the life of our young hero Morgan Barrett, a high school student who has just truly begun his career as a superhero in Gotham City as Gray Ghost, you will be given prompts to direct him.
Some things will require a dice roll to determine success or failure or something else entirely. Write In's are absolutely encouraged but I reserve the right to torpedo anything.

The voting period will last 20 minutes after the prompts are given. I will then announce the voting closed and write up the chosen response.

>The Dice
We will be using 1d100 ninety percent of the time here. Best of three. We might use something else when applicable. I'll be running with a loose sort of degrees of success/failure thing here so no real DCs.

You scratch at the light stubble on your jawline as you plod through the hall barefoot. After finishing your talk with Kaldur, you didn't really feel like strapping the old war boots back on. And the cold floor feels good against your skin. In one hand you clench the old pair your dad handed down to you. And in the other, you hold your phone awaiting the latest home late excuse for mom.

There are times you worry you might be getting a bit too good at lying to her. Most of the time you tell her that you're hangin' with Dick, or studying with Babs, or training with Artemis, or working at the Gym. You've got a nice little spread of excuses in your back pocket. And it doesn't feel great. Especially with how readily she accepts anything you tell her.

Settling on a long shift at the Gym this time around, you hit send and before you reach the end of the hall, she gets back to you. [Ok Sweetie, don't work too hard now!] followed by maybe 17 emoji's of a guy lifting weights. A small chuckle escapes you as you enter the mission room and drop your boots near the door.

Dick stands at the table, pouring over statistical data, lost in thought. He barely notices your entrance. "Morgan. Good, I'd like to get your opinion on something here."

You stand next to him at the head of the table, glancing at the things he has displayed. "Got us a mission here, boss?"

"Eh, maybe. I might be willing to chase a false lead or two if it gets Donna and Roy off the couch." He brings up a few things in particular. The most interesting being a map of the US with dozens upon dozens of red dots all over the map, but clustering around the New York area.

"There's something of a pattern going on here. the red signifies areas where people reported intense night terrors. Really nasty stuff, it makes people sleep walk- violently, and all kinds of accidents have gone down because of it." He zooms in on the biggest cluster. " And as you can see, it's especially bad in the New York area. Our home turf now. So I'm thinking it's magical in nature. Bruce would've detected Fear toxin being spread around on a nation wide level."

There are several photos and looping video of what's been happening to the supposed victims of this bad juju. People committing suicide en masse, falling asleep at the wheel from lack of restful sleep. And multiple accounts of murders from people who swear up and down that the person they blew away wasn't human. "Jesus, this sounds serious. I ain't no expert on magic of all things but after being in Doctor Fate's funhouse I'd bet on magic too."

He smirks. "Thought so. I think we've got a few options on how to proceed here but I'd like to hear what you think. You've been a natural at leading when I'm not around, so I thought you might as well share the boring part of the job with me."

"Alright, you can wipe that smirk off your face, Boy Wonder. whaddya thinkin' so far for our leads?" You grab one of the several chairs around get comfy.

Dick has a seat next you and goes over some more notes of his before sighing. "Not much, honestly. The idea that this is being caused by magic is just a hunch, really. And given our lack of experience with it overall it might be best to consult an expert. Of which, we don't know any. So we'd have to ask someone to connect us with them. Like Bruce."

"Or-" You start, idea forming. "Or we can ask M'gann. She's a telepath, and sensitive to things like people's emotions. Maybe she can find some sorta origin point? I'm not really sure how far reaching her powers are."

"None of us are. The training equipment isn't really made with Martians in mind. Though I'm not sure how you'd train your brain. Anyways. that leaves us with the final option. Good ol fashioned detective work. We head for the epicenter in New York. And see what we can find. I won't be easy though. The police are taking this seriously, and they probably won't be too keen on working with us just yet."

Ugh. There ain't no easy way this time. Asking Batman feels just plain lame. Our first case as an official team and we ask the Bat to come bail us out immediately? But we may not have a choice. And then there's M'gann, you think she'd try anything for the team. But if she can reach out to this crazyness with her powers, wouldn't that be putting her at risk too? And DIck layed out how difficult it'd be to go old school with this. How are we gonna play this?

Ask Batman for help.

We don’t want to rush in blind, or risk exposing Meg to something she’s new at just because it may be tangentially related to her abilities. We have luxury of having allies we can rely on, so let’s take advantage of that.
>>

Alternatively we could ask Ted or Dinah if they know someone. In fact we know for a fact Ted may have an interesting contact.

You snap your fingers, coming to a new conclusion. "No shit man, Doctor Fate! Him and Ted are old buddies, I can ask him to hook us up. Fate like- IS magic or something. If he can't help us out, no one can."

Dick nods, easily coming around to the idea of not having to ask Batman for a tip. "And it doesn't put M'gann at risk for a maybe. Let's do it."

"Alright, lemme get him on the phone." You pull your smart phone back out and hit the speed dial.

----

[Justice Society 005 Wild Cat, Transfer Complete, Welcome] Ted walks into the mission room, rough hands tucked into the pockets of his leather jacket. He runs a critical eye over everything before finally nodding. "Dodds would weep if he could see the kinda base you kids got here. We had government funding when we first started and we were lucky to get a box of pencils when we asked."

"Thanks again for this, Ted." You shake his hand in your usual greeting.

"No problem at all kid, Fate can be one slippery eel when he want's t' be. I think I'm the only one with a direct line t' him these days." Ted takes another moment to greet Dick. "And mister Dick Grayson, ya keepin' up on your strength training? Acrobatics ain't gonna cut it if you can't hold your own body weight up under stress."

"All the time, I gotta keep up with Morgan too after all. "

"Good, now, let's get this started. I told ya I'd explain when I got here but there ain't that much to it. I only got one way to contact him and I'd need ta be here for you to have a word with him." Ted produces a golden amulet from his pocket, something you've definitely seen before. It's looks to be like one of the golden ankhs Fate loves so much.

"Now, you should probably gimme some room. I haven't had ta do this in a while." Sharing a look, you and Dick back up several steps while Ted clears his throat. He chants some sort of language that you don't recognize. It even feels strange to your ears, like it goes in one ear and gets scrambled in your brain. When he finishes his chant you can't even remember what he said.

A golden ball of light appear in the air above his medallion, and the ankh takes shape in the light. In the center of the loop at the top. You see the image of Doctor Fate's shining helmet. "Ted. It is unusual for you to contact me. Is something amiss?"

"Yeah, but it's not me that needs your help. These youngsters are tackling a case they think is magical in nature. They could use some advice from a Lord of Order, eh?"

Dick takes the stage and explains the whole deal to Fate who listens with rapt attention through the whole thing, his helmeted face unreadable. "I believe that we are pursuing the same case."

You and Dick are surprised but as usual, Ted looks like he half expected this. "What? Really? So we were right then, there's magic involved."

"More than that, magic is the root cause. And the cause of this is much more sever than it appears on the surface. I am currently on another plane, searching for answers."

"Oh, well then you probably don't have much time to help us out then."

"On the contrary, I believe I have a lead that I cannot follow because it would require me to return to the mortal world. Listen closely. In realms like these, people's thoughts and emotions tend to manifest. I've been finding the restless souls of many girls here. All matching a similar description. And they all tell me the same story. That they were kidnapped and made to wait to be judged by someone. And when they were found wanting, they were killed."

You look to Dick, whose mentally working through the clue. "Sounds like human trafficking. That much misery? And girls matching a certain description being hunted. It adds up."

"So now we look into the trafficking rings in the New York area." You conclude.

Fate's golden circle flickers. "I must go now, this realm doesn't allow for long term communication. Do you have any other questions?"

Alrighty, vote called.

There's gonna be a bit of a delay on this one folks.

"Yeah, actually. Did any of these girls recognize where she ended up?" A recognizable location could end up paying off more in the end.

Fate takes a moment to think, presumably at least, it's really hard to read someone wearing a full gold plated mask with white soulless eyes. "There was something, not a location so much as her surroundings. One of them claimed she made an escape attempt. When she ran, she found herself underground. Keep that in mind as you search, I must return to my own investigation."

With that, the floating ankh dissipates completely. "You kids get what you needed?" Ted asks.

Dick nods, leaning over the table as he brings up some more data. "Yeah, I think we've got enough to act on. Thanks for all your help."

The old boxer just waves it off. "It ain't nothin. I don't have much to do these days outside a' my routine so this was a welcome distraction. You kids be careful, I'm gettin the heebie-jeebies from this one."

Ted takes his leave and Dick calls the team up to the mission room to get everybody up to speed. Roy and Donna look like different people compared to an hour ago. Suited up and ready to go. And on the other hand the martian girl has never looked more down. She's all ready. In a suit similar to J'onn's. Just lighter. Definitely more like her.

But she looks like she didn't get any sleep last night. "Hey you feelin alright M'gann? You don't look so hot."

She tries to smile and look like her usual chipper self but it's just not workin' "Oh, yes, I just- haven't been getting enough sleep lately."

Shit. "You been having nightmares, sleep walking? Anything like that?"

"Umm, not quite. But I've been picking up on a lot of negative thoughts lately. Here and at school. It's distracting, to say the least. At least now I know why."

Dick clips on his utility belt, doing a gear check before we head out. "Are you sure you're up to go out M'gann. I didn't want your first mission to be so intense."

"No, I want to help these girls. And I might be uniquely qualified for this mission. I can't think of a better way to kick off my time with the Titans!" With that, she floats off to talk to Donna about something.

"Well, hard to argue with that kind of enthusiasm. So, I've narrowed down our options here to a single operation in New York City proper. It's time for a raid."

Donna's ship hovers in the night sky above a dark warehouse as silent as ever while you all stand above the hatch. Robin goes over the plan once more while everyone prepares themselves. "Alright everyone, the strategy here is real simple. We jump down in two teams. With two specific goals. Alpha team is on shut down. Wreck their operations, find and apprehend the leader. Beta team will locate and secure any civilians and keep them safe. Any questions?"

When no one answers, he continues. "Good. Everyone be safe. These guys are ruthless. Do what you can to avoid a hostage situation." And with that, he crosses his arms together and drops out of the plane. Everyone follows with you going last, Miss Martian floating gently through the floor. As you land on the roof of the warehouse her outfit morphs to a black color, more like her uncle's.

Now, time to split up. You're on-

Nah man, actually, thanks for asking. Long story short, I haven't forgotten that and we'll be doing it next thread. Or maybe at the end of this one.
>>
>>2577424
You're on Beta Team. So you take point, seeing how your probably have more experience in creepin' around than everyone in this group except Robin. You lead the group over to a roof access window, to take a peak at the situation inside. It's the kind of setup you've cometo expect thus far. They're armed guards all over the place.

But they're no slouches, sharp eyed and with no unnecessary chatter between them. More interesting though, you can see guards 'escorting' several girls with bags over their heads through the warehouse. You have no idea where they're going but it looks like the whole place is on high alert. Guess they've been busy lately.

Now you just need to decide how this is gonna go. Shock and awe could end the fight really quickly with someone like Wonder on your side, she'll chew through these guys. But if you sneak in you have that much more time to locate more hostages. But of course, with them on edge like this it could really get ugly if you get caught.

How is this gonna go?

You decide to go for broke and try and find all of the potential hostages before you go loud. Signalling to your team to hold back, you disperse and slip through the seam on the window, unlocking it from the other side and allowing Wondergirl to float in while Speedy slides down on a grapple cord. You land on a tall stack of crates and let Wondergirl and Roy split off to cover more ground more quickly.

Honestly, you begin to question the logic in sending in amazon on a sneaking mission but once you see her yank a guard out of sight and punch his lights out before he can even squeal in surprise, those doubts just kinda disappear. M'gann gets your attention with a tap on the shoulder. (Didn't want to surprise you. We're all connected telepathically now. Hear that, Wondergirl? Speedy?"

They both respond in the affirmative. "Alright, Ghost, I'm going down into the these crates and containers to clear them of any victims."

"Go on, I'll be on clean up duty out here." With a thumbs up, she throws her hood on and disappears as she sinks through the container you're standing on. Well, M'gann is a quick study. Oh and she did do that training with Martian Manhunter. If she's workin' that hard then you've gotta step it up.

Dispersing completely, you float through the warehouse, avoiding patrolling guards an even witnessing a few of Wonder and Speedy's takedowns. This warehouse has obviously been renovated for the needs of these scumbags. There are cameras. reinforced doors, even checkpoints. But Robin shut down their surveillance system before you even touched down.

You squeeze through door after door, taking peeks. You find several groups of girls like this. Just huddling together, some crying, some just laying there. You're goggles tell you they're alive but they aren't moving. You're gonna have to remind yourself not to punch too hard when you're dealing with these monsters.

As you materialize above a couple of guards you hear Miss Martian's voice in your head. (Everyone? I've done a clean sweep, and it looks like Alpha team has gone loud.) Just then, an explosion rocks the area and every conscious guard in the area gets on their radios.

(Alright everyone, put down anyone you see and gather the victims near the rear of the building, we've gotta keep them away from the fighting.) Affirmatives all around. Now it's time to get to work. Hardening your limbs, you drop down with a thud between them and stomp on one's foot, hearing the slightly sickening pop of what must've been a few bones.

>Continued
>>
>>2577873
While he yelps you punch out his buddy in one movement, and break the other one's knife on your forearm when he tries to stab you. You're about to ask everyone else how their's went but a man tied up in Wonder's lasso hits the ground in front of you, eyes wide with fear. She flies back down casually. dragging him towards her. "Not so proficient with prey that fight back, are you?" She silences his whimpering with a swift kick as Speedy rappels down next to her.

"You are terrifying sometimes. you know that?"

"I am allowed."

M'gann reappears next to you and points toward one of the largest containers in here. "I didn't find much through most of my sweep but... you all need to see this."

Approaching the metal container, Wondergirl digs her fingers into the sides and destroys the locks as she rips the doors off. You aren't even sure what you're looking at when the doors come off. There are victims in here. But they aren't like the others at all. There are seven of them, sitting around in a circle as they whisper something, not moving a muscle.

"Whats- whats wrong with them." Speedy reaches out to touch one of them on the shoulder but Miss Martian stops him.

"Wait! I don't know anything about magic but it's obvious to my senses that they're in some sort of trance. We should be delicate if we're going to interrupt them.

"They aren't going anywhere like this. These- 'gentleman' must've moved them inside of here when this started. Perhaps my Lasso can force them out of this spell." Wondergirl widens the lasso to fit around the entire group but you're not sure yet. You lean in next to the girl closest to the door. Her whispers can barely be heard but you think you can hear. "Trigon."

"Miss Martian, you think you could bring them outta this?" You brush the girls long dark hair out of her face and nearly jump back when you see pupil-less blood red eyes. "Cuz we can't leave em like this."

The alien girl shrugs "I'm really not sure, I'd have to take a brief dive into their psyches to see what they're so fixated on."

"Or we could try Wonder's way. Seems faster. But uh, we probably shouldn't get into the habit of breaking kidnapping victims."

Well, it's on you as leader on Beta team.

While weighing your options, you hear another explosion rock the place on the opposite end. You've gotta finish up. "Wondergirl, you're up. Do your thing."

"I will not harm these girls, you have my word." She prepares her lasso once more, and tightens it around the girls, drawing them close together. Not that they seem to care. They just keep whispering their chant.

Donna takes a deep breath. And her lasso takes on a deep silvery glow. "The lasso compels you, the lasso compels you, the lasso compels you." Wondergirl repeats herself in a similar way to their chanting. You're not sure what you expected, but the chanting doesn't stop, in fact, it's getting louder.

Trigon, Trigon, Trigon. Again, and again. Their volume grows to match hers. Wondergirl puts the pressure on, pulling the lasso tighter and chanting over them but hey just keep going.

At this point, they're practically screaming, Speedy covers his ears and Miss Martian has to support herself on a nearby wall, you offer her your shoulder to lean on and notice she's sweating bullets. "Their thoughts. Their thoughts and their chanting are one. It's like they're a single being."

When the cheating reaches a fever pitch a surge of energy shoots through her lasso as she hauls them into the air while they scream bloody murder, red eyes bleeding. "The lasso compels you!"

A shockwave shoots from them and nearly knows you and M'gann off your feet as the light show ends. Wondergirl is quick to check on the girls and she gives a thumbs up after a tense moment.

"Well shit, that was the craziest shit I've seen all month." Speedy taps you on the shoulder turning you around.

"Yeah man, well I think you might've spoken too soon." HE draws his bow on a group of several robed men. Who crowd the doorway of the container. The one in the front steps forward. Pulling down his hood to reveal a bald head and the same red eyes the girls had. He draws a small knife, dragging it across his forearm, spilling his blood all over in front of him.

M'gann gasps as his blood jumps back up and onto his forearm, crystalizing in the shape of a axe head. When he speaks, his voice comes out of all of the others behind him. "Those women belong to Brother Blood."
