Finally after two years in the service of the Dark Queen Quintis you have finally been promoted, no more marching through filthy peasant villages administering the Queen's justice, this is your chance to rise through the ranks of her Majesty's armies and become one of her generals, or so you thought

When we last left our mid boss he was deciding the fate of the peasant prisoners.

"What you have done is easily worthy of execution," the peasants begin to beg but you cut them off, "However, I am an understanding lord, I know that you were merely being tricked by this hero into attacking us, and as such your punishment will be hard labor, you will perform this punishment until I see fit to release you."
The peasants relief is immediate and palpable as they begin to thank you, but you quickly silence them lest the hero overhear your mercy.
"But if you try to escape, or assist the hero in escaping I will not only kill all of you but burn Resis to the ground as well, am I understood,"
The peasants nod in sober understanding as your goblins with wolves in tow assemble behind you.
"The bases traps have been reset and the bodies have been cleared, there where 17 in total, any further orders boss."

Orders for goblins:
>Set them up as sentries and have them guard the prisoners [give me the numbers and where they are stationed, they may be supported by wolves] (Reminder: if you want a 24hr guard on the prisoners only half of the stationed guards will oversee them at a time.)
>Let them rest they have earned it.
>[Write In]

What will you do:
>Open the treasury and deposit the days loot
>Stay awhile and see if you can squeeze more information out of the hero
>Rest, it has been a long day
>[Write In]

Dungeon Stats:
>Garrison: 5 goblins + 4 goblin wolves.
>Maze + Traps: level 1 (6 traps in maze, max kill capacity per trap 3, traps have to be manually reset; Maze takes 2 min to navigate if correct path chosen)
>Secret Tunnels: level 1 (simple button press open, camouflaged into dungeon walls)

>Let them rest they have earned it.
They can rest, but only for a few hours. We have a lot of stuff to do, like getting more troops.
We have 5 goblin bois and four wolves? ok. We can set up an alternating cycle. 3 goblin at a time will be responsible for watching over the prisoners and patrolling the halls. They may alternate shifts to keep from getting stiff legs. One goblin will be responsible for watching the front or however we did it in the past. they may keep a goblin wolf with them for extra muscle and entertainment should the wolf not eat them.
the last goblin's position will be for free time to fuck around within reason. This will be how things will go until we can bolster our forces.

Wake up.
Watch prisoners for three hours.
Alternate with another goblin to patrol the halls for three hours.
Alternate with the other goblin to watch the front with the wolf.
Remaining time to do whatever they want then sleep.

So how much of the shaft is left of the Halberd? If there is enough, can it be used as an improvised one handed axe? If the main shaft is longer then the piece that stuck to the head, could we remove the halberd head from the smaller piece and bolt it to the bigger one?

Don't make this a fetish quest anon. I want semi cartoon villian not real world human filth. If you want to break the hero then hanging up weak civillians she knows on the wall next to her and killing them slowly while attacking her concience with "they suffer and die because of your doing" talk. She cares about others not herself as the good hero she is.

Still not interested in doing that.
>>
>>2566199
No rape is fine, you guys are gonna laugh at me but I wanted to do Goblin Slayer. Not looking to turn this into fetish quest at all; really neat concept QM. But yeah barring that we could at least do goblin-lite, with am emphasis on fear ploys already go with using the hero as an example (put her in a potato sack and hang her in villiage center with her sword in view or something awful) so when our superior inevitably comes to check we’ll have completely cowed at least this place.

You order your goblins to take shifts between guarding the front, guarding the prisoners and rest. You remind them sternly that two of them must remain to watch the prisoners at all times. You allow the goblin guarding the entrance to take a wolf with him in order to make sure no one enters without being seen and you alerted. The goblins immediately set about following your orders, it seems that your defense of the fort and sharing of the spoils has earned you the total obedience of the goblins, It usually took your old boss more than a few threats to get them moving.
Satisfied with your goblins, you turn to one last matter before you retire for the day, updating the regional commander on what has transpired.
You draft a letter to the commander describing your boss's blunder and subsequent death, your heroic defense of the fort and capture of the hero, and your need for aid to help replenish your depleted garrison. You seal the letter and are about to fetch one of your goblins and have him go deliver it when another idea strikes you, the royal courier would arrive the day after tomorrow to collect and deliver letters, you could wait for him to arrive rather than send out a goblin from your already depleted garrison on a six day round trip journey to the regional commander.

Not really because it only takes one chucklefuck to turn that village back into a riot. Because that's what got our boss killed in the first place. At least wait till we get more reinforcements before we start doing that shit.

The hero got the boss killed, showing that we fucked her up will cowtow the peasants. They aren’t exactly courageous from the reactions they gave before. They think we’re the real boss now; let’s reinforce that idea.

You decide against sending out a goblin from your already depleted garrison to deliver a letter you could wait for the royal courier. With the letter taken care of you head to the your new quarters. The old boss's quarters were about half the size of the barracks but the room itself was divided into two halves by a stone wall. The first half was empty and used more as storage space it connected the treasury. The second half was the actual sleeping space of your previous boss. Inside you found a pile of blankets and pillows which your boss must have used as a bed, it reeked inside of goblin B.O. and alcohol but in your tired state it barely registered to you. You remove your plate armor leaving its pieces scattered on the floor before closing the heavy wooden door to the room and collapsing on the least pungent section of pillows.

Congratulations on surviving your first day, you may now choose one of the following perks, I will leave this decision open until tomorrow so make sure to submit your votes.

>Intimidating: Guaranteed 1 success on any check to threaten/intimidate and enemies that are physically smaller then you have -1 to their damage against you
>Trap Master: DCs on improving traps are much lower and you can implement any trap you see in the future into your maze without a check as long as you take the time to examine it, Your trained eyes can also spot mundane traps easily and examining things for traps will also be easier.
>Bush Wacker: Similar to Trap Master this perk will lower the DC when placing troops and yourself for ambushes, as well as making it easier for you to identify ambushes before you walk into them.

You awake after what you can only assume was a full nights rest, its hard to tell how long one has slept when they can't see the sun. Spending as much time around goblins as you had in the since your assignment here you knew better than to just leave them to their assignments with out checking in. You head first to the entrance to see if the look out was awake. When you arrive you find your goblin lying up against one of your wolves both asleep, You might have considered the scene cute if it weren't for your anger at the goblin for falling asleep on watch. As you approach to wake the goblin, the wolf opens one of its eyes and stares up at you lazily before a sort of recognition flares in its eye and it quickly rises and drags the goblin up by his collar. "I'm awake," the goblin says sleepily as he tries to gain his footing. How were you going to deal with him.

>A beating should teach him to stay awake on watch.

You give the goblin a slap on the top of his head before asking him. "Did you train that wolf to wake you when I came by?" The goblin stares at his feet a while before answering "Yes,"
"How long did it take you to do that?" you ask.
"I don't know from around the time the sun set until the moon reached its peak, I guess,"
You ponder what to make of this, on the one hand it was clever of him to train the wolf to do that and you wonder if his skill at training animals could be put to good use, and on the other hand it was lapse of discipline that could have left the base exposed to attack.
"One last question, What is your name?"
"Grintol, sir"

Gotta punish and reward your minions. His reward this time? No beatings. Punishments? Help train the other three dogs when we get more troops. Probably not much of a punishment but whatever.

We've worked with him for 2 years and just now learned his name.

>[Write in]

His skill with animals might be useful in the future as a possible animal trainer , so let's give him a scolding and light punishment "you underestimate the importance of your duty , young goblin. The base , your co-workers , and everything we've worked so hard for could go to waste during an ambush , because you lacked discipline. I'm witholding half of your part of the next spoils for your incompetence as punishment. But if you work harder , i might reward you instead."

"Well Grintol, I hope you know that falling asleep on guard is reckless and a great way to get yourself and everybody in this base killed." Grintol simply stares at his feet. "If another group of peasants had come while you were asleep we would have been slaughtered. Your failure is normally grounds for harsh punishment," Grintol flinches waiting for a blow that never comes. "However," you continue "It would be a waste of your talents to leave you unable to perform your new duties as our new Wolf Master," Grintol's head snaps up to look at your face "That doesn't mean however you will go unpunished, as well as being Wolf Master you will be the one in charge of keeping the kennels clean, So go and start shoveling out that wolf shit." Grintol nods a smile growing on his face as he leaves his post the wolf pads along with him into the maze.

With that finished you head to the barracks and wake one of the goblins and send him to be lookout before descending into the kennels to check on the other goblins who are thankfully awake at their posts. You are about to head back up to check the treasury when another thought strikes you

There would be time for the prisoners later, it was time to sort out the treasury. You ascend out of the kennels and continue on to the treasury, once at its door you pull the key out from around your neck slide it into the key hole, then with a twist and a rather loud clunk the door swung loose. You take a breath and pull the door open.

Your ears are met with the clatter of glass bottles and clay jugs as the door swings open and wine bottle rolls across the floor halting at your feet. You wish your boss had survived the ambush so that you could have murdered him with your own hands, as you push past the small mound jugs and bottles at the door. Beyond the bottles you find a few bolts of rough spun cloth, stacks of tanned cowhide, and a crate of what appears to be candles. On the back wall you six large kegs one of which isn't tapped and a clay jar full of what appears to be honey. It is then that you notice a small pile of coins sitting on the floor, silver and copper pieces all stacked up, you guess there is around 160 gold in that pile. The treasury was full of anything your boss couldn't shove down his fat throat. Doing some quick calculations you guess that in all there is around 400 gold stored in the treasury. Adding that to your gold from looting the hero and peasants you had 425 gold in all.

You give a heavy sigh and rake your fingers down your face in exasperation. With your anger rising your thoughts drift to Selenas who was still captive in your dungeon, It was time that she felt your anger. You stomp down to the kennels and bark at the two goblins standing guard "Go to the treasury and clean out the empty bottles form it, and don't try and take anything I know everything that's in there," The goblins shrug and share a look before rising and heading out of the kennels. You find Selenas still naked and shivering in her cage. "Are you ready to answer my questions about your leader," Selenas shoots you a murderous look over her shoulder, then turns back to face the wall. You exhale, and gather your thoughts, "Lets try this again," you begin.

You sigh and rise are about to rise to your feet when Selenas begins

"Falenta is the true hero you seek, I don't know where she is right now, she never stays in one place too long. She is always on the move, always helping people," at those words a smile forms on Selenas's lips, but it quickly fades as she keeps going. "Who are these are these people who will be your rescuers?" You ask.
She smirks at your question pride filling her as she begins "You will face the wrath of Walden Casenheim, holy lancer and general of my lady's armies, he is a most noble knight, there is more honor in his boot than you have in your entire being," great a pretty boy prancing on around on a horse pretending to lead an army you think to yourself as Selenas continues
"You will face the wrath of Walden if you survive Valenca Saren, I hope you sleep with one eye open, Beast, because Valenca end you when you rest, when ever you are at your weakest." Great an assassin that was the last thing you needed with an understaffed and undisciplined garrison.
"And if you are thinking of striking a pre-emptive blow forget it for, you will face Caulder Ironheart, Falenta's protector and shield, with armor so thick even a dragon's claws can't penetrate it." Ah so some great big armored meathead with a hard on for his lady.
"Your shaking is understandable, Monster, if i were in your shoes I wo-" You let a laugh erupt from your lungs, Selenas stops stunned by your sudden laugh before regaining her composure. " What is so funny," she demanded.
You quiet your laughter before you answer her "You heroes are always so funny you speak of yourselves and your companions so highly, like it is just you and your friends alone who fight and win rebellions, but it is not you is it, Selenas, no your victories are not paid for by the sweat of you and your companions, oh no, it is paid for with the blood of the peasants you rally to fight for you. I wonder Selenas just how much peasant blood will be spilled to stage your rescue, how many more fathers and sons will never see their families again, how many widows and childless mothers will you heroes leave weeping in your wake. Hear me Selenas, you heroes act like you are better than my Queen and me, but deep down you are just the same us, all of our victories are paid for in blood. The only difference between us is that we willing to look, to stare at the field of peasant corpses and acknowledge that we are the ones who caused that slaughter."
Selenas simply sits in silence soaking in your words.

"So tell me Selenas what does, Falenta want, and don't give me that, to help the peasants rubbish, because its clear to the both of us that if she wanted to do that, she wouldn't be leading them into slaughter."
"But... but...," Selenas stammers "but at Kinasas she told me.."
"Told you what Selenas, that all of the peasants pain and suffering is worth your noble goal, there is nothing noble about war Selenas"
"No..." Selenas whimpered as she turned from you tears running down her cheeks. She had shut herself off from you that was all you were going to get from her. But you have learned much from your conversation.
You know Selenas met Falenta at Kinasas and you learned who the other heroes in Falenta's employ were, a rather productive interrogation.

As you walk away from Selenas's cage you can hear her whisper "Why Falenta, you said you would always be there for me."

Your two goblins return from cleaning out the treasury and head back to watch the prisoners as you prepare to leave.

I thought about that, we can also do it where the training room has two entrances, one that leads from the room with Boss's Room and another one that connects to the Barracks. That way we can cut through the training room in the case of a cave in in the Entrance Hall.

As you leave you pass by the cage with the three peasants inside, seeing them you remember that you promised them hard labor, it was time to make good on that promise.

"Guard," you bark and one of your goblins walks over to you, "Bring these peasants to the maze and have them start digging out its sides, I want the maze taller and wider, bring a wolf with you and guard them while they work,"

"Understood, sir. Alright you useless pile of flesh on you feet." Your goblin takes and leads the blindfolded peasants out of the kennels with a wolf padding up behind them.

Now it was time to return to your own work.

Planning an offence can wait until we get a decent fighting force imo, so directing the excavation may be a good idea.
Also making inventory of what we need, considered that we have some gold.

Lastly, for the joy of that anon who wanted the hero broken, if we took our time we could probably turn Selenas loyal. As she is right now she is no soldier, but a vulnerable girl who has been presented with a harsh truth and had her ideals destroyed.
We can either: 1 keep her as a prisoner, and possibly get some political maneuverability from that; 2 deliver her up the hierarchy, and possibly get some reward; 3 try to turn her to our cause, being careful to not be backstabbed, and possibly get a minion or a waifu, if you care.

As you ascend out of the kennels and into the barracks you are reminded of the fight that took place there, and YOUR HALBERD you suddenly remember, and quickly dash back to your quarters to retrieve its broken pieces, the halberd

had snapped at the head at the point were the metal stopped and the wood of the shaft began, as you examine the halberd you realize that you don't have the equipment to fix the halberd, it would take a blacksmith to fix it you realize, you

give a disheartened sigh as you leave the pieces, and instead pick up and examine the hero's sword once more it was a finely made blade, but as Selenas had mentioned it wouldn't show its powers to you. You look closer at the runes on

the side of the blade. Most of the runes don't make any sense but you recognize one of them as the symbol for light.

You stare at the schematics for a long while. The many faintly draw pieces of the mechanism filling the page. You try to discern the names of parts and instructions writen on the schematics but they are written in a script you don't understand. You keep trying though with no success for hours, then finally with your eyes straining and head throbbing give up. Reengineering traps is harder than it seems.

You hear the sound of scraping shovels scraping and pickaxes pounding as you turn a corner of the maze you see a wall that has had its giant stone bricks removed and the three peasants were busy digging away at the dirt on the other side,

nearby sat your goblin guard watching the peasants work. Little progress had been made into the dirt, at the rate they were going it was going to be a while before the excavation had finished, the peasants were clearly working hard as they

were all soaked in sweat and breathing heavy as they dug away at the dirt and rock of the hill into which your base was built. Understanding of their current pace you return to your quarters and retire for the day, you had to be ready for royal

courier tomorrow.

You were awoken to the sound of knocking on your door, and upon opening it you find one of your goblins, and behind him the courier. You hand him your letter to the regional commander, "Anything else sir he asks,"

"Ah yes one moment," you say to the courier as you slip back into your room you pull the hero's sword from its scabbard and placing it on a table, use some charcoal and parchment to make an etching of the runes on the sword. You then write a message on the etching requesting it be translated. Then you quickly write a follow up to your first letter to the regional commander, including the new information from Selenas, and a request for any troops he can spare.

Finished, you seal both letters and address them to the commander and to the mage's guild, before returning to the courier and handing him the letter, the courier salutes you before the goblin leads him out of the base. With the letters sent, you turn to your tasks for the day.
OOC: It will take around six days for us to hear a response from the commander so, in order to speed up the process I will give you guys three actions a day until a response is heard.

You scribble and write and wrack your brain for hours, starting over many times, but in the end you have a finished design for the maze addition, its is going to be more costly to build than you originally thought but you have a set of plans.

Btw we should probably give Selenas that blanket, as a dead prisoner is a worthless prisoner.
I mean, the wolves like them but that's not the point.

Exiting your room you slide quickly over to the treasury. Inside you find that all of the empty bottles had been removed and a state of semi- order had been given to room, a quick inspection of the room reveals that following your orders the goblins had taken nothing, you are more respected than you thought.

Next you head down to the kennels to check on Selenas, but on the way you bump into a goblin in the middle of a guard shift, remembering your thought from last night you ask him. "Do you know who built this place?" You say gesturing broadly to the dungeon.

The goblin simply shrugs saying "A scout stumbled across this place one day, and the old boss figured we should use it as a base, that's all I know,"

You nod thoughtfully and let the goblin go. It figures the goblins wouldn't know anything, maybe the raid room would have old records in it, half of the papers in there looked older than the dust on the wall, but you could worry ab
out that later, you had to check on Selenas.

When you reached Selenas's cage you could see she was in worse shape. She was shaking horribly and on the floor of her cage you could see untouched rations, she had stopped eating. That would end right now you had to reach her before she starved herself to sickness or death

>I need 3 people to roll a d20 to see if you reach her.

>She was shaking horribly and on the floor of her cage you could see untouched rations, she had stopped eating
Starving herself? Fasting? Is this her method of self inflicting punishment for all the dead peasants? Some, misplaced sense of penance for her sins? If she really wanted to repent, wouldn't she want to do something else a little less self destructive?
>>
>>2581141
Or maybe it's a feeling of worthlessness, combined with guilt, abandonment and the fact of currently being captive, naked, and responsibile for 3 other people.

> 2 Successes
"Selenas," you say sternly "Look at me, Selenas," She showed no reaction. You open the cage door and clamber inside, you take Selenas's face in your hands and turn her head so that she faces you. Her eyes stare straight into yours but there is no comprehension, she isn't staring at you she is staring past you. "Selenas I know you are in there, and I know you can hear me. Whatever it is you think you are doing it's not going to help you, your peasants, or your friends."

At the mention of her friends something in her face flinches, "This is about your friends isn't it. What is it Selenas what about your friends. Are they coming here?"

"Why," Selenas begins "Why haven't they come yet, I have been down here in the dark for so long. Falenta said she would always be there for me, all I had to do was reach into my heart and she would be there, but I can't feel her, not here." "Why," she asks again "Why is she not here?" You can see the tears forming in her eyes, her eyes start to refocus, she was coming back, "Why," she asked again, "Why did they abandon me in this horrible place."

Tears streamed freely down her face now, her loud sobs filling the kennels, she can do nothing but cry as you wrap the blanket around her shoulders.

>Offer her your shoulder to cry on.
>This is your chance to drive a wedge between her and her friends.

Well if you want to induce a deep-set trauma, sure...

But I am not really into this kind of shit, man.
Moreover, blue board.

You.
You stop being a nigger.

I am very tempted to do either
>Offer her your shoulder to cry on.
Or
>This is your chance to drive a wedge between her and her friends.
If we do the first one then she won't see us as much of a monster, maybe. If we do the second then we'll probably be able to create a divide between be and her friend, and maybe even have her side with us.

Whatever the choice might be, I want to ask her more personal questions about her friend. Who they were on a personal level. 'Did they ever kill and if yes who? Who has your assassin friend killed? Does she actually know them past what they fight for? Was she sure they weren't glimmer and glimmer on the outside, and vile on the inside?

I wonder if Falenta was being literal or not.
"It may sound weird coming from your captor, but get a hold of yourself! Whether you want to be saved or you want revenge on your companions, neither can happen if you die."

I'm afraid this is were I will have to leave you guys for the night.

I will tally the votes tomorrow and write up in a new thread.

Until then may the dice gods bless your rolls

Well considering how broken she is at this point, we have a chance at rebuilding her psychologically to our advantage since we proved that her ideals of a hero are weak and useless, we can (if the dice will it and we get our forces built up) potentially set her up with our ideals of what a hero is, so she'll be willing to work for us when we send her up the river to high command. Because holy crap fuck these "heroes" for treating their own like disposable conscripts instead of proper comrades

first let her sorrows flow

then we start
>This is your chance to drive a wedge between her and her friends.

>>2581944
I guess we are the only ones that never lied to you

Offer the blanket again I think

Let's get our shoulder wet, first we humanize ourselves, then when she trusts us we start talking about her friends
>>
I can support a combination of votes, I am fine with that.

Dumb villagers.
>"Oh the taxes are too high!"
Because we probably need them for war or buricratic shit.

>"The Queen is evil!"
If she was nice to everyone the queendom would be in the shitter.

>"You killed our family!"
You all were going to stab kill me.

So after we convince her, feed her and get her clothes back, we'll go to the village?
