Last Time on Worm Quest:You Robbed a bank, broke some buddies out of PRT holding and then killed Krieg after declaring war on the gangs.

What is this: A Wormverse version of the Joker. With Tinker and Mover Powers. The universe is based on a Web serial about superheroes full of grimdark and sadness. The main character is essentially a person who is capable of experiencing fun and not immediately being punished by the universe, mostly due to incredible dice rolls. We had eight crit successes in the first thread alone.

How does it work?: D20's mostly, I keep a list of modifiers and stats on my computer. You have three actions a day and can do things.

Description of main character so those who are new don't immediately assume we're going full edge: He may be a bit evil and demented, he may kill a few villains, and he may be a general immature ass but at his heart, behind the white skin and teeth, he is still Barnaby Campbell, a kid who loves his mom and little brother and wanted to be a hero. [quote from thread]

We have a Discord, it's for containing shitposting. and telling people when I'm running. https://discord.gg/gERNbV

You come to several hours later, awoken by the sounds of talking from the common room. Most of the others are in there and talking about teenager things. Some idle conversation later and you find yourself thinking over what to do with your time today.

It is Saturday the seventeenth of April, and there is much to do.

Barnaby/Manic
Status:OK
[Need] 13/20
[Gene Fragmentation]10/60
Karma:-6
Money: 5,500 Dollars
Current power Understanding: Superhuman Gymnast and Tinker powers. Immune to poison, heightened senses.
You have ten Alloy Cards the Trickster's boots and Garb equipped. You have a Revolver and gas grenades. alongside your old knife.

Happy Zappers:Gloves that Electrocute Enemies: non lethal.
Madman's garb: heavy torso armour, full face helmet. strength enhancement
Trickster's garb, partial face mask. Lightly reinforced. dark colours for stealth. Molecular resistance field, basically mini krieg.
[Trickster's Cane]
This is a metal cane with an outer shell made of the same metal as your cards but smooth instead of sharp(obviously) it doesn't cut through things in the same way. Instead it softens whatever it hits and deforms it.
The cane also contains a directional electromagnet that allows you to recall your cards after they've been thrown, or technically anything magnetic enough for the beam to affect.

option list at hideout
Do some Tinkering
Time to play with Chemicals
Explore the City
Go perform Heroic acts
Go Do some Villainy
Food tho
Open Research Screen
New Outfit
You are at war with literally everything, make an attack.
>write in.

Gang members: 14
Grue:Darkness generator and manipulator, knows Kung Fu.
Tattletale:Sherlock Holmes on crack.
Bitch:Has dogs that she can enlarge and turn into car sized hellbeasts.
Regent:Can cause people's muscles to spasm incredibly hard, Can do "other things" but refuses. Psychopath.
Piper:Unpowered vigilante with an awesome costume. kinda fangirly.
>>
>>2559845
>Do some Tinkering

Need to build that vehicle bay so we can build the Mobile Clinic.

We can crack open Armsy's bike before we build the van itself, but we need the bay regardless.
>>
>>2559845
>write in.
Group meeting! We can get pizza and snacks and make a thing of it. But we should also get their opinions on what we should do next, who to attack, etc.
>>
>>2559845
Okay yeah, backing >>2559849
A moment to relax and unwind before we attack someone or decide what to do, like fix the medkits. Asking Bitch about the dog shelter and Bruce, as well as talking to Regent about his leg or Grue about how he's doing would also be good.
>>
>>2559849
I'll support this, if only because it makes sense.

We've been going hard for a good minute now, and we just got done with a very ironic gassing of Nazi's. We should just sit back and unwind for a second, if only to catch our bearings.

Is there a reason the Merchants aren't on the map?
>>
>>2559865
The only real territory that the Archer's bridge Merchants have is what they're allowed to have by the other gangs due to being shitholes.

So while they may have territory nominally, if any other force in the city wanted to lay claim to it seriously then there is nothing they could do. Except maybe the old stadium but eh.
>>
Although relaxing us cool and all we should probably start focusing on what to do. I know we are laying low for a while to let the dust settle from our bank job. But with Bakuda still on the lose and most likely in charge of the ABB we beed to get our crew geared.
>>
>>2559870
So what we should do is absorv the merchants into our fold. I mean the guys aren't that bad, certanly better then crazy Bakuda who must be going yandere for our gas right now. And we can always use
>>
>>2559872

Lung's still up and about last I checked, and while we put a bullet in him, Oni Lee's not dead either.

Bakuda's not in charge yet, but our gas attack has probably made Lung let her a little off the leash. We're not looking at folks with bombs surgically implanted in their heads, but we might be dealing with a bombing run in the near future.
>>
>>2559874
>Not that bad.
Drug dealers/users. They're not someone we would want in our gang.
>>
>>2559875
If that happens we should subject the bomb slaves to an even more horrific fate, making sure to keep them alive, then send them back Bakuda's way.
Really paint ourselves almost as a mythological figure. An utterly unpredictable bogeyman who'll either pull completely benign pranks, or commit unspeakable atrocities, seemingly based solely on what its twisted mind thinks is more funny at the time.
>>
>>2559889
Squealer is probably the only merchant worth it to recruit, basically for her mad max invisible tanks shit, and even then it would require us to detox and rehab her.
>>
>>2559890

The problem is those folks were either threatened into doing that, had their loved one's being threatened, or had said loved one's with bombs in their head already and were being held at metaphorical gunpoint. And it wasn't just gangsters she did this to, old men and women, young teens, hell I wouldn't be surprised if there were a few kids thrown into the mix. Even worse is the deadman's switch she had, if she goes the every bomb, every single one, goes off at once. From the ones in peoples heads to the ones under buildings (some of them hospitals and goddamn preschools) to a gigantic EMP bomb she built that took out the entire grid of the eastern seaboard.
>>
>>2559889
We can fix then...take the drug dependecy from then.

>>2559892
Agreed
>>
>>2559849
We should ask about his unbreakable leg kek. To be completely immature we reference his penis was the unbreakable leg

>>2559870
So we should kick out the bums and acquire Crime Alleys and Mad Manic Cars

>>2559894
Pst, hey Bakuda, a little surgery never hurt anyone right? You should know

>LaughingManic.jpg
>>
>>2559894
What if we stole her shtick then? Bakuda commands people through fear? That means all we need to do to undermine her authority is to command more fear than her.

> Get TT to identify some of the bombers and locate their loved ones.

> Kidnap slant-eyes.

> Subject them to the most gradual, nightmarish forms of torture that we can imagine. Keep them alive through-out.

> Broadcast it everywhere.

> Offer an ultimatum: Bakuda's head by dawn or it gets worse.
>>
>>2559907
>We should ask about his unbreakable leg kek. To be completely immature we reference his penis was the unbreakable leg

We should tell him that we are sorry he will never manage a career on the theater since he can't 'break a leg' anymore.
>>
>>2559912

There's edge and then there's just being a dick. Torturing people who aren't even involved in the shitshow just to start a witch hunt that wouldn't even work because they'd hate you a hell of a lot more than they'd hate her is just stupid.
>>
>>2559912
Man Bakuda will become our true rival like that. I would rather get ready to nullify her bombs.
>>
>>2559912
Thats dumb, we should just kidnap Bakuda and turn her into our Reek.

Ya know, when the time comes.
>>
>>2559916
It would also make us lose our good will with the civies. which we managed to get thanks our speech and actions in the bank
>>
>>2559913
He'll also win every argument from now on as well, I mean the leg he'll be standing on now is immovable
>>
>>2559917

We might be able to surgically remove a couple of the bombs. Studying their composition may reveal a common vulnerability between all devices that'll let us disable them?
>>
>>2559918
> yesssd
>>
>>2559922
Let's just jack her signal and reverse it so that /she/ blows up instead
>>
>>2559922
You...don't know Bakuda uh? She would rather push the button and kill everyone rather then leave anyone to find about her tech (as any good tinker should do).
>>
>>2559932
Nah. I was assuming Manic Luck takes ahold again :V

With the way 20s and 1s come up I was probably hoping it would would've been less problematic to finish the Bakuda problem
>>
We need to bring our karma up a bit later. From what it looked like during the gang fight our karma can bring us a bonus
>>
"Alright guys, team meeting in an hour or so. Grue can you pop out and grab us some pizza?"

"Yeah sure."

You call Piper and the actual gang members on a nearby payphone as well, making sure that everyone gets an invite to your little get together. A while later and you find yourself in the common room with the other lieutenants, eating pizza and shooting the shit.

Regent, Tattletale and Grue make up most of the conversation at first, with you and Piper laughing at jokes and making fun of Regent mostly.

"So yeah, then we tazed the hell out of Battery, you'd think with a name like that she'd be immune to electricity or something but nah."
Grue and Regent continue to tell the tale of their thrilling escape from the PRT building as you snack on some pizza.

"Then Regent broke his leg like a dumbass."

"That was Literally not my fault though. Blame the disintegration lady for dropping me on a desk." His faux offence is somewhat undercut by his giggling, and the obvious appreciation of his now unbreakable leg. "Speaking of legs, I have you to thank for this don't I boss? Thanks a ton."

"No problem. Try not to break the rest though, I don't have a million dollars to fix you with."

That gets a few more giggles as conversation pauses and your crew finishes their pizza.

You had something specific to ask, Didn't you?
>>
>>2559950
>Where do you guys want to go from here? I've got a few plans of my own, but I'm always open to new ideas.

See what's on everybody's mind, let them feel like they have a say in their futures. We've got the Mobile Clinic idea, and we should share that with them, along with the idea of giving them gene mods, tinker weapons, and boosters for the upcoming battles.

Basically make a round table sort of thing, let the gang be ruled by something like a commitee rather than a dictatorship. That's how the other gangs got so stagnant after all, they let their 'leaders' call all the shots and now here we are running rings around the fuckers like nobody's business. If we want to get and stay on top we need to be flexible, and this is the first step.
>>
>>2559942
Nah. -1/0/1 karma is ideal for maximum ambiguity.
Oh hang on, looks like we are at -6 at the moment? Nevermind, you are absolutely correct. Manic's karma does need to be increased a little.

>>2559950

Also tell then that we will meed to fi d other spots a group as ours need mutiple hideouts. Both to recruit goons as well as to makr move so people don't find our main hideout. Things will be more hard for us with then working so we need to get to know our area. i want everyone to work on mapping our territory and even have some of Ken's pantings in key places mostly to mark our hide outs and others to work as distractions when we move around.
>>
>>2559963
C-Could our gang sign be the Skeleton Trumpet meme?
>>
>>2559960
i would rather have Bakuda-chan to defect to us. If there is a person who can understand her genius it's us.
>>
>>2559964
Well Ken's paintings are capable inly of doing noise so i guess they could work as a alarm system? Only thing we should do is instead of just normal looking skeletons we make then like pic related.
>>
>>2559970
The reason I suggested the Skeleton Trumpet so is that they continually trumpet when either enemies/intruders appear or when they see Armsmaster

Imagine it; an entire wall or alley or even /street/ continually trumpeting at Armsmaster all day erryday

Amsmaster will never escape the memes

We should probaly Check on our family sooner or later
>>
>>2560664
Not when we are being hunted down by literaly everyone. Once we secure our stuff and gear up our boy and girls with tinker tech we can go an check on then.

And if we even go do that we will end up bumping into someone or luring some villain/gang member to our family.

Would be pretty fun to have SS track us down and find our family as we are doing a visit
>>
>>2560703
Reminder we need familial DNA to get enough information to fix our cells even further. Doesn't need to be much, DNA can be mass-produced and replicated ridiculously easily even in real life.
>>
>>2560713
I'm not saying to not do it. Just to wait a little bit so we can have some more stomping power so we can handle when the gangs come after us. Our gas needs to be modified to since it won't work a second time around now that people are afraid of it and tinkers can easily build some protection agains it. We need acids, liquid Smile-X, upgrade our knife to be of the same material as our cards. Have some energy rifles for our boys and girls, gene mod Reggie and Ronnie with super steroids. Give Piper a plant regen upgrade (but not yo much or else we end up with a Ivy in our hands) and give the teen couple Alice and Ted some other kind of upgrade...if they want to that is.
>>
>>2560751
>acids, liquid SmileX
Again, perfect for the spray flower if we can actually make it one of these timeslots.
>upgrade our knife to be of the same material as our cards
Yes, but I rather our knife stay old and trusty the way it is. Dunno.
>energy rifles for our boys and girls
Doesn't fit Joker thematic. Also you have plenty of typos every single post you make. Are you ESL or something?
>gene mod Reggie and Ronnie with super steroids
Once we get Venom, this could be good.
>plant regen upgrade
Nah. Regular regen upgrade is always a plus.
>give the teen couple Alice and Ted some other kind of upgrade

We are trying to avoid the first girl problem. Although if you think carefully that would make Panacea the first girl in quest. But she is so garbage that anons don't even want to know about her.

Also Piper and Manic seem to have a pretty good chemestry together i just hope it won't end in tears once the endbringer or the S9 come and hit town.
>>
>>2561080
Well first girl would be tattle or the bug one. So its not first girl, and she already seems to gel with us to some degree.

Plus im fairly certain its all going to end in tears if she and the others get identified and their familys targeted.

Rune was before the Stormtiger fight, we saw her through the window and didn't even fought her. Vista was the day after we fought Armsmaster the first time, on the pasta store, she got frozen by Clockblocker after we kicked his face. The PRT vs Empire fight was the day after that.

My personal belief for his trigger event is a continual failure to measure up to others, maybe a sort of prodigy kid/normal kid sort of thing except he was the normal kid. Eventually this culminated in The other being publicly praised and him being denigrated or punished for not being as good . Then he triggers and gets a power about squeezing every bit of performance out of things that aren’t necessarily exceptional.

And second triggers come from similar situations.
>>
>>2562352
He's regarded as one of the greatest Tinkers in the world and he's literally the most famous Hero right under the Triumvirate.

We've... kinda broken that image and reputation in half with absolutely no effort.

Having a literal madman run circles around you when you've faced Endbringers turns you into the largest butt of the joke in the world

So... yeah

A note for future smilex:

We could create a delayed trigger version. So we can say dose a banquet with it and walk in half an hour later.

Also might be useful when combined with our painter freind, since he can have his painting shift when someone triggers it, releasing an aerosol smilex. We just have to mix our stuff into his artwork.

"So I've been thinking, and I still don't know what you guys actually want out of this whole "joining up with me" thing. Apart from money and safety I mean, which are good reasons. But still, what do you guys want to happen after all of this?"

The assembled gang members actually look rather surprised at this, and they look between each other for a second before Tattletale answers with a grin.

"I mostly just wanted to get away from Coil, guy was a creep and tried to kill me."

Bitch's reply is shorter, Which frankly you should've expected, she's not really a talker.
"I got dogs to look after, lots of them. I need money for that."

You wait for a second, but that's it.

Regent proves to be a bit more verbose with his response, though his reasons don't get much deeper. "I mostly just follow Grue and the others, I'm kinda low maintenance."

Grue's a bit more hesitant to answer, and he quite clearly takes some time to figure out the right way of saying what he what he needs to. "I have some family I need to look after, and what I was getting from Coil kind of fell through. I wasn't going to just let him kill my team. As for joining up with you specifically? The Empire and ABB certainly aren't going to take me, and I'm not disgusting enough to join the Merchants. The city's changing, and I have to be on the winning side if I'm gonna protect what's mine."

Fair enough, very pragmatic arguments. But you can live with that.

Piper just wanted to not be kidnapped by the ABB, another very understandable goal.

You ask for suggestions, but the Undersiders explain that planning happens to be more Tattletale's thing, and so far you've been doing a good job between you two.

Some time later the pizza is finished, and the meeting draws to an end.

You have a few hours left in the day, wonder what to do now?

Alright so I'm now caught up to the quest and I noticed from the bank heist that we're starting to get predictable with our kit, which as a character based on the joker isn't good. I know we're working with chemicals at the moment but I've thought of a couple of more straight forward weapons at the moment that people might be into. Gonna be a couple posts for pics and explanations.

First off, how about a large circular saw on a stick? it could also be an add on to Manic's cane that can come on and off, and compress down to an easy to carry side canister.
>>

>>2563339

You have a big tank that you can dump people in and modify their DNA with.
You wouldn't be Triggering people (unless something went really badly wrong) but you might be able to screw with them in a way that makes them stronger, tougher or otherwise superhuman.
>>
>>2563353
>>2563339
I'd second this
>>
>>2563355
Second, this was brought up before, but how about a shit ton of marbles, a mix of regular and explosive/gas carrying. can be thrown, tossed on the ground for enemies to slip on, and shit with a high powered slingshot. The slingshot could also be a one handed slingshot/crossbow hybrid.
>>
>>2563339
gonna vote for refining the blue stuff.
>>
>>2563357

Alright, but could we find a way to intentionally trigger them by tinkering some kind of awful pain box and stuffing them into it.
I know canonically triggering is achieved through extreme stress, and attempts to artificially induce it have been largely unsuccessful, but could we try our hand with it, and would it be possible to succeed?

Our knife is great and all but we need something that'll really cut through the competition. I was thinking either a vibroblade or a chain blade knife. Maybe a set, with a larger machete style blade and a smaller knife on our side. A hand guard would also be a good idea, knife fights require getting close and some extra finger protection for no real cost is a boon.

As you sit down to your workshop, you decide that it's not going to be long before your gas is useless, too many of the people that you're going up against have access to gas masks. You're going to have to make some adjustments.

You spend a while thinking on some ideas for your new gas, if you could make it a contact gas then they'd have to wear full chem gear in order to get around it.

Yeah that's a good idea.

You put yourself into the strange half trance that you've become so familiar with, just enough control to shape your new creation.

You make a second smaller vat of SmileX in case something goes wrong, and you begin making all sorts of adjustments. After a few hours you slip out of your power imposed fugue and inspect the results, you water it down to non-lethal levels and rub some on a passing minion, watching as he slowly starts giggling. It kind of works, but not nearly strong enough to actually be worth it in a fight. Well, you know it's possible at least.

Upgrade SmileX: 1 of ??? complete.

You head to bed afterwards, and dream of sharp things.

You awaken the next day, and after breakfast you sit down to ponder your new plans.

> Concussive balloons: Look like ordinary party balloons. However, when ruptured they will produce a shockwave of force equivalent to a concussion grenade. This effect can cascade through multiple balloons.

> Lunatic's gleam: Powerful projectors set into the eyes of Manic's mask can toggled on or off. When on, these projectors fill the eyesockets of Manic's mask with blinding pools of intense light. They serve intimidation purposes, but also stealth purposes. (Have you ever flashed yourself in the eyes with a heavy-duty torch and then tried looking around a dark room?)

> Voice projector: A Tinkerteck device installed in the mask that not only amplifies the wearer voice (or laughter), but can also 'throw' the sound. Making it seem as though the speaker is in a different location, or is somehow everywhere at once.

> Adhesive pie: Reverse engineered from PRT containment foam. This tool appears to be a typical custard cream pie, however upon crust being broken an extremely rubbery foam froths out of the pie that will cling tightly to any surface it touches. Once the adhesive sets it is extremely difficult to damage or dislodge, proving resistant to heating, freezing and cutting. However, liberally dousing the adhesive with concentrated ammonia will almost immediately dissolve the compound.

You sit down with the others and set to work really fortifying the chemical plant. Tattletale proves invaluable in this, pointing out likely avenues of attack and good places to put traps.

You've made some gas masks for your gang as the main defence for your base. They are used for the second phase of your plan. Should anyone attack the chem plant, you've hooked the old sprinkler system up to a vat full of gaseous and highly pressurised (but non lethal in case of misfires) Laughing Gas.

You also start creating a secret passage hidden in your workshop, it leads out into the a clear section of the destroyed Admin building and is hidden rather well, being under a significant amount of debris.

The gas masks are also useful for when your men go on missions, and should come in very handy.

It's the afternoon now and like before, Grue and Regent head out for dinner as you decide what else to do today.

We're a lot more established since we made the old straight jacket and building something stronger, while keeping and upgrading the Joker hair helmet, would certainly help to beef us up. Maybe go the way of The Batman's Joker and adopt some of the Iconic joker look? I'm thinking a heavy armored coat, with inlaid plating. Knee and elbow pads also built in for hard strikes and protection. and maybe somewhat poofy pants to keep some of that maniac manic look with an upgrade to our booster shoes. All in the iconic green and purple, shit's cash. Plus it would look better with our cane and spray flower if we ever get that.

Why not go a step further and turn our buzzer gloves into conductor gloves and steer our cards as well?
>>
Thought on our gloves: we should give them an alternating setting so that when we zap that girl who can only block one attack, if we use two hands in quick succession of each other we can actually hit.
>>
>>2563801
And maybe armor them up a bit and recolor it to match our costume too.
>>
>>2563811
Do note that we arnt stronger than the average joe, nor have we been working out.

Theres only so much you can get away with on the armor and power supply department before the sheer weight starts becoming a problem. Being slowed down will get us killed since we rely on speed and gadgetry.

Not to mention armored gloves are bulky and would hamper things like our card accuracy.

You attempt multiple times to decipher the secret of the strange blue goo, but your power seems intent on simply discarding it as useless. Some time later you throw up your hands and call in your research assistant. Striding back and forth in a huff as the smug blonde goes over your notes in her pyjamas.

"You know, if you're gonna keep calling me in here I should probably get a raise. The headaches alone are really killing me boss."

"Are you kidding? If I was paying you what you were worth I'd be bankrupt. You're going to have to survive with the medical plan.

She's smiling as she hands the now annotated notes over to you and pops a much lower dose of your pain medicine from last time, heading swiftly back towards the bedrooms. "Oh yes, slowly having your bones replaced with tinkertech through invasive surgery. My favourite."

"You're just jealous that Alec gets an awesome robot leg, next time you'll just have to try harder to be wounded.

Her only response to that is a pained grunt as she heads out the door.

Turns out your Blue GooTM is a powerful growth and cell regeneration serum, with the minor side effect of causing the subject to fall into a forty eight hour coma. Huh.

You're interrupted by a series of colossal booms from outside, a smoke cloud rising from the direction of the boardwalk as a wave of dust and ash radiates outwards.

"Shit, that's bad."

You head out into the common room and see Piper flicking through news channels. And you hear a a particularly shitty piece of news, the type of Bad News that has capital letters and you have to stop and think about.

"Videos from the scene have revealed that the Protectorate building seems to have been heavily damaged, and so far neither the Parahuman Response Task-force or the Protectorate are answering calls, this is Darren Hall of the Brockton Bulletin, and we will be right back with news as it develops." The picture is what sticks in your head, half of the Protectorate building is just blasted to pieces.

If it was that bad then you should help. There's no love lost between you and the Protectorate but whoever did this is way out of line.
Hunker down and look after your people, there's no sense in risking your lives.
There has to be some way you can turn this to your advantage, Get some Villainy done.

On one hand I want to just go "fuck you protectorate" and take advantage of the situation. On the other hand, We might still need them to keep the playing field even with the gangs. Plus helping them would come off as pretty crazy, which fits our whole "we do what we want bitch" outlook. You know what, I'm gonna go with helping them. Nobody fucks with the heroes but us Plus we could totally take a chance and steal Armmaster's newest arm after, it'll be fucking hilarious

just to clarify, karma governs in game luck. such as random encounters or other completely random outcomes.

So this could either be

1) A fistraction and also a way to tag were our group comes and goes to.

2) A attemp to make us go save the day and ambush us just to have more explosives and be forces to face a enemy in their condition

3) A trap to blame us for the bombing and then force the PRT or who ever goes to rescue people to face us in the same way we did with the ABB and the Nazis.

Manic would definitely be TRUE joker against someone who crossed the line into messing with him personally.

You pull the gang together and set out in your convoy, determined to help out. Whoever did this was going to pay, this was your city damn it, and you aren't going to let some two bit gangster ruin your day. You and the Protectorate had a whole dairy farm's worth of beef and they failed so many times, but they don't deserve to die for trying and failing.

And so it is that you find yourself and your gang pushing through a crowd of terrified people, the crowd is parting in front of you as you step through and out onto the wrecked Boardwalk. From here you can see several smoking buildings, with almost every building or store here destroyed by the explosions. The PRT building too the worst of it, and is almost completely destroyed above the ground floor, you were wondering what happened to all of the uniformed goons you expected. The streets are littered with dead bodies, and you see very few survivors.

You can see the Rig from here as well, and the Dragon atop it. He appears to be fighting Dauntless, but you can't see anyone else there from this distance.

The bridge over there is still functional, although missing chunks. You could probably just walk over if you felt like helping there, or you could engage in some search and rescue.

Have your unpowered gang stay here and help, you'll head over to the rig.
Have the Undersiders stay and help, Your gangers have guns and armour.
Stay over here, a chemtinker might be just what's needed to save some lives.

More like SS won't know how to read us.
She operates on her own concept of doing what it takes.

We have levels of action depending on the situation.

She may not comprehend this mindset properly. Might just think we truly are insane as Manic.

>>2564009
We need to stay out of the fight until we can make contact with someone in the PRT. Some sort of way to draw attention to us without drawing attention to the crowd would work.

For now we should get the crew + gangsters to help with civilians while attempting to make contact with ANYONE PRT. We don't want to get misidentified

I'm reading the first thread now to see what the fuss is all about. This quest just exploded out of nowhere

Also the way I see it, is that if someone bombs the Protectorate, and if they do a lot of damage, they ruin our fun.

And that's not funny.
>>
>>2563929
I don't care about being a villain or a hero, I just like being unpredictable. Willingly helping out the PRT after humiliating and shitting on them a bunch of times instead of just taking advantage feels like the way crazier "why the fuck?!" option that'll mess with people. On that note, I have been fine with helping or hurting the PRT while they're down. Just not bunkering down, that sounds boring as fuck and was the only option I was completely against.

It's based on a webnovel about superheroes called Worm. It's all grimdarky and crapsack but it's a brilliantly made world, full of cool powers and superheroes.
>>
>>2564021
wasn't that the whole issue? People couldn't get into contact with the PRT so we came over here to provide assistance? Personally, I reckon we leave the mooks and maybe Bitch or Tattletale to help out the civs and make our way over to the rig to make our allegiance abundantly apparent

Powers, character personalities, and motivations may be spoiled.

Actual events... things are pretty wild already. Someone important left the city because they appear to think we're a reality bender. They might be back though.
>>
If there was anyone else around from the PRT you would go and introduce yourself properly, make sure that they knew you were here to help. But the PRT building is rubble, and Lung is just getting bigger. You order your gang members to stay back and help before hopping on one of the motorbikes that made up your convoy.

"Come on Maniacs! We're almost late to the party."

You and your powered gang members (Even Rebecca, who's outfit simply consists of a light pink suit and a domino mask) race off across the bridge, your motorcycle being followed by three of Bitch's dogs.

"-lin! Colin wake up! Please!"
You know that voice, and as consciousness wavers you latch onto it. You pull yourself out of the darkness with your signature focus, there's no time for despair or laziness not now.

You are Armsmaster the world's greatest Tinker, and as of two hours ago no longer the leader of the Brockton Bay Protectorate. Don't let it sink in, keep moving,

Your migraine's getting worse.

You pull yourself off of the floor, blood dripping from your nose as you haul yourself up onto one of the work tables in your lab. "I'm here, Dragon. I'm okay. What's going on?"

Dragon's digital avatar flashes on your wall display, the agoraphobic Tinker's face twisted in worry. "After you wouldn't take my calls I thought something was up so I had a look at the area. Colin, someone fired a missile at the Protectorate building."

That shocks you, almost enough for you to stop donning your armour. Discipline will pull you through, it always has before. Not against Manic, he took everything.

Your migraine's getting worse.

You finish armouring up, taking your Halberd from it's position on the wall. You smile as your metal arm pulls it into position, if there was one good thing from all this then it was the arm. There was a comforting efficiency to it, and it could even feel due to Dragon's advice. More tech stolen from others, when do you think her pity will run out?
"What about the Wards? Do you have anything on them?"

"Most were in school when the bomb hit, Giggleswitch is in his room, he didn't go in today." There's a waver in her voice there. You're aware of his issues but there was nothing you could do about it beyond calling in a psychologist, and that wasn't enough. There wasn't much you could do these days. Always outclassed by others, and it all started with a stupid mistake.

Your migraine's getting worse.

Go check on the young Tinker. Chances are low, but he might need your help.
You can hear fighting from outside, go and try. It won't be enough.

"Patch into my helmet communicator, we should stay in contact." There's a quick affirmation from Dragon as you stagger out into the corridors. It's like an entirely different place, white tiles and futuristic corridors replaced with blasted walls and ripped wiring. You stop halfway down the corridor to reacquaint yourself with the bottle of pain medication you keep in your armour, five of the small pills taking the edge off of your pain. Familiar isn't it? You of all people should know that they don't help. They just make it easier.

Your migraine's getting worse.

You walk down towards the Wards' quarters, Dragon quoting system damage reports into your ear. Her voice is a soothing balm, without her you don't know if you'd even have gotten up in truth. They would have found you there, weeping like a child. And it would only prove Piggot right.

Another few pills help here.

Eventually you find yourself at the door, it refuses to open when you input the code but this is something you can deal with. Maybe, you're looking a bit unsteady there Colin.

Another few pills. Dragon asks about them but you wave her off, any side effects will be temporary at most and being useful will be worth the trade-off. You have to stay useful, Piggot will drop you in heartbeat if she thinks you can't pull your weight, everyone will.

How long until even Dragon gives up?

Open the door by messing with the wires, it would be easy for Dauntless. He could just teleport through.
Cut through with your Halberd, Dauntless would have an easier time of it because of that Arc Lance.
Your suit's servos can pull it open, Dauntless could force it open easier though, his armour is so much stronger.

People seemingly forgot that Armsmaster and Defiant are the same person, or they just didn't read the novel and harassed him for the laughs. Now maybe there won't be any Defiant.

On the other hand, if Colin makes it out of his second trigger more or less sane, Dragon will be even stronger.
>>
Your hands are shaking.Excuses Excuses. Your Migraine is a burning heat in the back of your skull. Not good enough Colin.

Your migraine's getting worse.

Eventually you just hack the door down with your Halberd, but you barely have the strength to lift it and it feels so heavy, Almost a minute passes in silence as you bash the door down in desperation. When you finally open it, you almost fall flat from the exertion. What's wrong Colin? Tired? Can't keep up?

Your migraine's getting worse.

You force yourself to keep going, using your Halberd as a walking stick as you stagger up the stairway towards Giggleswitch's room. You stand up straighter as you near the top of the stairs, and force your despondent frown into a tired grin. After what happened to his parents, and his brother. The Protectorate's all he has left. Maybe if you'd responded just a bit faster he'd be home right now, watching all of this on TV.

You're more alike than he realises. He doesn't need tired old Colin right now, he needs Armsmaster.

The knight of the Bay.

He's trapped, and unconscious. Slowly breathing in smoke and particulates as his room burns around him.

Manic has VERY good reason to be mad at Armsmaster.

In the first week, Manic was scared and confused due to his power resulting in instinctive lobotomisation. Manic WANTED to get help from the PRT, and instead of Armsmaster giving Manic a chance, he chased him down LIKE A CRIMINAL rather than attempted to figure out the situation.

Further actions only lead Armsmaster and friends only further going after Manic at Armsmaster's behest (due to being the figure head of the protectorate).

>>2564530
ruining your favorite hero into a miserable wreck and LAUGHINGstock within a month.
Manic is really gonna feel like shit when he realizes just how much shit his seemingly innocuous actions ruined Armsy.
But he can't HELP Armsy directly. It'd be taken as pity.

The only way to help Armsy would be to set up wins for him ahead of time and help from the sides. That's if Manic even WANTS to help him. It'll take the month at least for Manic to get over how armsmaster attempted to make Manic persona non-grata

>>
>>2564551
To be fair, the kind of person to lobotomize another person, even in self defense, is at best dangerous and unstable, and at worst psychotic and malicious. It makes sense to want to bring them in, and he was basically right in treating us like a dangerous maniac. We cut his arm off after all. And lets not forget about all those murders, even if the victims deserved it. I mean, we just gassed like 30 people to death, and killed their leader in cold blood, and felt nothing about it.
>>
>>2564537
Fuck no
>>
>>2564574
Yes it did. But what actually brougth him down was us one uping him every time.

Our bro is unlike to know we are Manic. But he surely knows we dissapeared or run away frim home and our parents got killed. Most likely by Giggle in a fit to protect our mother from our abusive father
>>
The beam sticking him to the floor won't move, constructing the Rig out of reinforced materials had seemed like such a good idea at the time but now. Now the only thing you can do is curse another in a long line of stupid mistakes. There's nothing you can do to help him, just give up. It's so warm in here.

Colin hadn't realised how cold he was, how utterly tired and cold and miserable his useless, traitorous excuse for a body was. He was too busy with other things.

"Colin! For god's sake listen to me, you can't save him."

See? even Dragon doesn't think you can do it. You're as useless as Father said, a failure in everything you try. Dauntless could save him, he'd teleport him away or use any of the miracles he can create to save him. All you can do is Cry and Fail.

"No! I can still save him."

Trapped and alone with the idiot to save him, the only one without Father's intellect.

"SHUT UP! I CAN DO IT, I CAN!"

You swing at the beam one more, tired arms shuddering as you slowly raise the Useless Over-designed piece of crap over your head, howling your defiance into the flames.

"I CAN"

And it bounces off, not even denting the reinforced metal.

No meta. Manic has reasons to be upset at him. Armsy can prove himself to Manic eventually.

>>2564583
The arm cut was accidental panic attack. We were still getting our powers in check. Also literally getting attacked while trying to get a goddamn hotdog.

We literally only got a semi-stable life within the last several days. Also those people we got attacked by needed a very solid lesson. Just beating them and sending them back would result in more people the next time who wouldn't be afraid of dying cuz we didn't do any killing.

Kaiser/ABB probably factored our non-lethalism when sending in goons.

It's better fewer died in one go than continual war.

I think Manic is just the way the Entities have to trigger as many people as possible so they can have a chance agains Big Lenny(Leviathan)
>>
>>2564613
>>2564627
So, what we did wasn't a bad thing because
>panic attack
>innate ability
>they had it coming
The first two both come back to instablilty, which isnt a good thing for someone with the ability to fuck with molecular bonds. And the last one shows that we can disregard human life so long as we can rationalize it. All this really points to psychopathic tendencies and a severe lack of empathy. So, yeah, I do think that realistically we are a danger to everyone around us, and should be locked up for everyone safety.

dont get me wrong, I like the quest
>>

>>2564663
It's not us this society that is crazy were our heroes don't do their job. So we will do it for then. We still respect then some what but they need to get out of our way or we will pass trought then
>>
>>2564650
In that case every human on Earth Bet should be locked up, because place them in the right stressful situation and they will become violent.

All he did when Armsmaster came to hunt him down was kill someone in a very stressful situation and after he calmed down he called the PRT and the lobotomy was literally in selfdefense.
>>
You awaken on the floor, Dragon crying in your ear. You remember the voice.

"Colin! No, not you please! Anyone but you! I-"

"Dragon." You can't say the rest, it comes out as a gargling cough that feels like sandpaper being shoved up your throat.

You can do it, your Halberd is right there and your arm has tools. Given how tough the kid is you'd expect to have ten or so seconds at least.

A few quick moves with a miniature spanner, some small adjustments with a micro screwdriver. And you have exactly the tool you need.

You have all the tools you'd ever need, and they're all in your arm.

Your Halberd's edge is thinned to only a lepton in width, and it carves through the spaces between the ceiling beam's atoms. Just what you needed. And there's so much more.

But first, you have to save Michael. You take his unconscious body in one hand and sling it over your shoulder, moving out.

Dragon's still talking, but you're incapable of listening. You can barely put one foot in front of the other. In the end all you can do is head out the front door and stand stock still as you recognise the man there.

"Why am I surprised. It's you, it's always you."

POV Switch: over.
>>
>>2564675
I would like to point out that lobotomies are normally very long operations from what I've researched. Normally like an hour to an hour and a half.

"I accidentally strapped a guy down and operated on him for an hour." isn't very believable. And they didn't know that you had done it any faster than that.
>>
In short, confessing to the protectorate was fucking stupid, breaking news.
>>
>>2564650
I have to say with all the shit we been through we held ourselves quite well. lesser men would had broken apart, and we aren’t even 18. also not caring about human trash =/= lack of empathy. a true lack of empathy means we wouldn’t have bothered with the dock, or the old dying man, or our goon who almost got whacked at the bank robbery.

The idea of dehumanizing things you kill has been a tactic since the beginning of time and its actually the best way to keep your sanity. After all who cares about the meat we eat, yet we strangely seem to care about dogs and cats. its because we humanize them(pets are a part of the family) a lot more then cows and chickens.
>>
>>2564690
Unless you go the brute force method of a very long thin and sharp object inserted in the back of the eye socket up into the brain.
>>
>"Why am I surprised. It's you, it's always you."

Did Manic appeared just in time to take blame?
>>
>>2564690
And we did that how in the time before the PRT arrived? That wasn't even close to an hour between E88 arriving and the PRT reacting to their move, so we didn't have the time even if we wanted.
That and the fact we called in at all should have told them that applying a "shot first, ask questions later" policy wouldn't be very helpful.
>>
>>2564705
True, but that’s usually fatal when performed in an alleyway on a guy that’s fighting back.
>>
>>2564718
yeah, but considering maniac can do shit that has a 99% chance of failure near enough reliably, i doubt its as big a feat for him.

Doubtful. He might not be the best person, but I wouldn't have said he deserved this, even when He sent Manic straight to... where ever Manic has ended up. The demotion, yes. Everything that's come along with it, no.
>>2564607
I agree with that point. If we somehow find out that we caused something fucked up to happen to the guy when we just thought of it as harmless fun, we should do what works for the character, but we shouldn't use meta knowlege to reach that point.
>>
>>2564717

>our molecular processing shard relies on us making things better by changing them - creating chaos, conflict, renewal through twisted change
>our shard hates the blue elixir because it fixes the user without changing their genetic makeup or molecules or whatever; it just regens them back to normal
>our shard likes it when we mutate or gain fragmentation, because we are changing from what we were
>our shard hates fixing things back to the way they were, because fixing the fucked marriage between our parents and the overall family issue won't be done through making things go back to the way they were - it'll just fail and fall apart again, like the way our own fleshy body did on that ghetto ABB operating table

You continue on your mad ride down the bridge to the Rig, dodging holes and crumbling concrete as the rubble from the Rig continues to impede you and the dogs. It takes a while, but you and the others eventually manage to weave your way through and onto the Rig proper.

The Rig is named as such because it was constructed on top of an old oil rig out in the bay, and you can still see the foundations of the design here and there. You can also see a very tired and slightly burnt Armsmaster stagger out of a door nearby. There are three buildings around a large central platform area, connected by bridges onto the central platform on which Dauntless and Lung are fighting. Now that you're closer you can also see the rest of the protectorate and several scattered PRT troopers fighting him as well.

"Why am I surprised? It's you, it's always you."

Armsmaster is looking over your way now, and looks incredibly tired.

So what is Arm's new thing?
>>
>>2565008
The inside of his arm and weapon systems are effectively infinite, allowing for almost anything to be put inside, and allowing him to pull weird quantum bullshit.

essentially, his normal speciality got turned up to thirteen, then he broke the handle off.

The inside of his tech is essentially an infinite timeless space where he is god and the rules of existence no longer apply.

He's gone from TARDIS tech to Cthulu tech.

Oh of course, I feel bad for him, Manic is still bitter with him and would have no reason to know about Armey's break down. This shouldn't change how we treat him in quest till we see it personally. Even then, Manic might not care anyway because he's a young, pissed off kid disillusioned with the PRT.
>>
>>2565242
Oh yeah we lack the men power to do that stuff. But again a safe house just in case we need to bail would be ideal.

Could even use Rebecca's power so we can create underground tunnel and connect it to the sewers for extra sneaking around.
>>

"Laughter." The best medicine (though we have to combine it with our liquid laughing gas for that). :^)

Although a big issue with this is the 2 day coma it puts people in. Maybe making it work faster will come at the cost of causing side-effects in the user? Extremely minor mutation at least?

Why in the hell did you picture as looking like that of all things? If it wasn't likely near impossible from both age difference and our positions in life/idealogy, then I'd be all for that. As is, while I'd rather not focus on waifus, I'd be ok with these girls on at least being salvageable this early in, or at least decent for a worm character.
Tattletale, she's one of the decent ones
Skitter, still early enough that she isn't a complete monster yet
Pancea, I actually like how one anon described slowly pulling the stick out of her ass and learning to chill
Piper, likable and cute OC, though I feel a bit weird about Manic dating a girl that basically worships him
Glory Girl, purely because I'd find us hitting on and actually winning over GG, despite her being completely in denial about it, it'd be hilarious
>>
>>2565554
>I actually like how one anon described slowly pulling the stick out of her ass
Only to be replaced by our cock, much later. :^)

But otherwise, I agree. Disregard waifus, build and create cool shit, meme on heroes, Joker the enemies, and deal with our life.

Aw and here I thought no one looked at that. I'll always advocate trying not to beat her with the shit end of the stick. Life has done that to her enough already. And she is pretty easily salvageable.

"Yes, it was all me, I freed Lung due to my endless belief in his cause. And now I find myself having changed my mind and heart, ready to do whatever I can to make up for my former villainy."

Armsmaster looks at you for a long moment, mouth wide in confusion.

"I don't even know if you're joking. I really don't."

You give him your best shit eating grin and lean forwards on your motorcycle.

"So are we gonna go fight Lung or what? He's getting pretty big."

Armsmaster seems to consider this for a second, and slowly lowers the cape on his shoulders to the ground as he turns to look at the ongoing battle.

"Yes, normally we would just back off by now but that isn't an option. If you and Hellhound's dogs can tie him down then I might be able to tranquillise him, but that's a longshot when he's this big."

You can all see the gang leader as he continues to grow, a colossal metal dragon towering over the other heroes.

Friendly combatants:
Rebecca. Can disintegrate non-living matter.
Grue:can create totally impenetrable darkness.
Bitch/Hellhound :Has a trio of car sized dogs, they look like something out of a horror movie.
Regent: Can make people's muscles spasm.
Armsmaster: Tinker, Batman expy. Has all of the gadgets.

Dauntless(A cape with armour modelled after a spartan, who slowly "enchants" them with supernatural properties and has been doing so for several years now.) Miss Militia(Middle eastern woman with the power to summon any type of gun) and Velocity(The Flash, basically) are currently engaged with Lung(Asian guy who morphs into a dragon and gets bigger the longer he fights.) and are steadily losing, you'll need to take him out quickly if you want a chance at winning.

You and your Maniacs dismount from your various modes of transport before Bitch's dogs take off towards the raging Asian. The others take up positions within eyesight while you and Armsmaster head into the battle. The two of you charge in as Armsmaster alerts the other Protectorate heroes to your presence, as well as your intent to help.

Lung turns as you reach him, the fifteen foot dragon man hurling and spewing fire all over the platform. You and Armsmaster dodge a few blasts and cut him with your respective weapons, Cards and Halberd gliding through his scales and causing great spurts of blood from his body.

Soon however you discover the great irritation of fighting Lung, that being his regeneration and how bloody fast it is. Any wound you or the others create heals over quickly and is covered by even thicker and tougher scales, if you don't finish this quickly he'll be unstoppable before long.

You can see Miss Militia and

Manic OST: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dRM9lI7n-44

Then you remember your new formula, if it sends people into medical comas it has to be a fairly good sedative, maybe even good enough to get around Lung's regeneration. The Protectorate heroes continue to fight as you step back and dodge a fireball, rummaging around in your pack for a syringe of your serum. A few seconds later you find yourself sprinting towards the colossal steel dragon, with a very stupid idea. But hey, since when have stupid ideas led you astray?

You sprint up Dauntless' back, springboarding off of the spartan's head and thoroughly messing up his dumb spartan mohawk as you fly towards Lung's face. [+1 Armsmaster Opinion] You see him close his mouth as you get closer and for a second you panic that he might have figured out your plan.
It's moot though, as an errant twitch at the corner of his mouth opens it up just enough for you to hurl the syringe into his jaw.

Thanks Regent.

Unfortunately the serum hasn't taken effect quite yet, and you are literally affixed to the Ragin' Asian's face. The face belonging to the guy whom can breathe fire.

You dodge the first blast of fire out of his mouth, then backflip away as he lets out an explosion of heat around him that blackens the metal beneath his feet. You land next to Armsmaster, rolling back up to your feet as his arm is wreathed in crackling electrical energy. The two of you charge forwards in sync, and Hurl two colossal hay-makers into the dragon's face. The sheer force of your punches throws his head backwards hard enough to pull the rest of his body with it.

He stays down after that, no doubt the serum is doing it's work. You can even see him start to shrink as he lies on the smoking steel floor.
"Take a nap big guy, there's a nice big cage with your name on it."
Not your best bit of banter, but dragons and sleeping are very rarely mixed subjects. It's hard being funny sometimes.

You can see the wounded heroes around you now, squaring off against your powered lieutenants despite their wounds. The only ones not doing so are you, Armsmaster and Miss Militia. And even she's shooting you and your group a few worried looks.

This situation needs to be defused, and Armsmaster is currently a bit busy shooting Lung full of even more Tinkertech tranquillisers.

Try to defuse the situation somehow?
Maybe notify Armsmaster about the impending superbattle, he needs to get his team in line or it might kick off.

"Armsy? You're getting distracted and there's important stuff going on, You need to get your shit together."

He looks over to you as he finishes up with dosing Lung, and seems confused as he begins ask questions. "What the hell did you dose him with? He's out like a light, some kind of tranquilliser?"

"Actually it's a medical substance I came up with, it stimulates regeneration like Othala but forces the subject into a coma. I had some on me and when I got here I realised that by definition it had to sidestep a regenerator's healing."

"Boss? you're getting pulled into shop talk." Regent's voice cuts through the air and gets the two of you back on track before the situation can devolve into Tinker talk.

Armsmaster looks over to the assembled heroes before slapping himself in the side of the head.
"I think I have a concussion, it's getting harder and harder to focus. And even if I was operating at optimal levels, you lot sure aren't. We need to keep Lung contained right now, we don't have time to chase minor villains, especially ones that came here to help. I saw what happened to the PRT building over the bridge, everything above the first floor is just gone. If anything, we should thank our lucky stars for Manic here, much as it pains me to say."

You can see him look around at the other heroes, helmet slowly turning towards you and the Maniacs.
"As far as I know, the Director is dead. That means that we're all this city has left standing between it and destruction, someone out there did this to decapitate us. We need to figure out who and why, then we need to stop them. Anyone who can launch a missile at the Rig probably has more than one, and we cannot allow the use of that sort of power to continue."

While he's taking part in the speech, he palms you a small card with his emblem on and gives you a meaningful look.

"It wasn't any of the people here, So we'll let them go for now."

He turns and starts talking with the shellshocked looking hero team, gauging injuries and deploying medical tech from his Halberd.

Might knock them out, but unless PanPan the Garbage Can get's there in time it might be the only thing that saves somebody's life.

Much as I hate to say it, we need these guys on board, especially if assholes are throwing missiles around now. Makes me wonder what the official response will be. The powers that be can't just leave it like this because if the PRT and Protectorate can be destroyed in one city then that means they can be destroyed in every city and a moral hit like that would make them bleed potential members like nobody's business.

I do believe this little 'experiment' has run its course. We might see some heavy hitters in the near future. We're gonna need to seriously up our game if we want to stay alive.

You move up to Armsmaster and hand him the other two syringes of Blue GooTM, jingling them in your hand when he hesitates. "Two more doses of what put Lung under, it also gives the subject a minor regeneration power. You might need it, and I can always make more. It might even fix your arm."

"Thanks. You mind if I give it a look?"

"I wouldn't be giving it to you otherwise genius."

He gives you a Look at that, which frankly you probably should have expected. You attempt to ignore his annoyed expression by turning away and looting a bunch of shit from Lung before he can fully shrink. In the end, you only manage to take a blood sample but that should be enough with the scale you have back at the plant.

You and your Maniacs scarper afterwards, leaving across the bridge back to the ruined boardwalk and meeting back up with your unpowered gang members. You can see your gang in the main square as you enter, surrounded by wounded and dead civilians. It's not a battle site, more like a triage. They are all on stretchers and mattresses clearly appropriated from a bombed out furniture store.

And in the middle of it, Panacea and Glory Girl.

Ooooh boy.

Might go wrong but cracking sokmejokes and doing some help with Tatts to help triage by sight and hellhound to help move and regent totally not keeping people from moving when they ought not too, especially if they laugh is going to GBE a good play, plus Grue as cover for some shit going down okn the area and Rebecca making rubble go away and instantly unearth burried people better than collateral damage Barbie

After all, if their goal was to wipe out the Protectorate and the Wards they failed or if it was to break out Lung they failed. If they wanted to kill the PRT's head honcho then they /might/ have pulled that off, but they can send a new guy here in a week so that's a stopgap at best.

Worst case scenario they go after softer targets than the heroes, and then we're looking at a body count that would give anyone with sense nightmares.

You get to work, rolling up your sleeves and revealing the scalpels strapped to your arms as you head to the nearest serious head wound. There's a lot of them, and while you can't fix them as fast as Panacea can, you know how to play to your strengths. A large explosion in a public area means falling debris, debris means head wounds and brain damage. Lots of brain damage.

You have Grue coordinate the other capes in the rescue efforts while you work on the brain injuries. There's a lot of them, and more come as quickly as you can help them. Eventually the paramedics arrive, but they're swamped as soon as they get into position.

It takes a few hours before you make a large enough dent that the ambulances can take the rest, and although you start with a laugh and a joke for every patient, by the end of it there's only the smile picking up the slack. It's hard to think of good jokes when you're elbow deep in a child whose stomach has been blown open.

You take a break as the ambulances load up, but you find yourself far too tired to turn when you hear footsteps approaching you. It's Panacea, with a strained smile on her face.

"It's not as easy as you thought, is it? There's too many to help them all. There always is. So you prioritise, but that means someone else dies, or you rush and miss something."

"What's your point? We both know it's a grave profession. Hell, assuming I even care is kind of reaching.
It wasn't your best joke, but hey it works. And she even gives you a Look. So you're clearly getting through enough to annoy her.

"I just thought that maybe you'd rethink the violent criminal thing after dealing with what comes after, maybe I was wrong."

You think I'm a Villain? Explain the flaws in her reasoning.

>Insane vigilante

But... maybe she earned an explanation of sorts. That from the experience we've had, some problems are a cancer. We want to help, and we do our very best to stop innocents from being harmed.
And we've handled villains non-lethally before too.

But sometimes an example has to be made to prevent more harm from occuring. It's why we send children to juvie rather than just give them a time out.

And gangs cutting children alive for body parts or committing genocide crosses that line

Isn't it crueler though to leave the victim in a coma? Like, has Zion told us how long it lasts? Cause comas are like sudo-death, you just lay there sprawled the fuck out, alive but unable to do anything. I think that's kinda cruel to be honest.
>>
>>2567039
Oh I'm aware. I've read worm myself and I still don't get it. In a world where life shits on you for existing it shits on PanPan double, yet everyone HATES her for it. She's one of the few who actually cared until everyone pushed her off the deep end. Anons here would just rather keep adding to the pile.

I'd rather get a friend that can control biomaterials for our biotinkering but I'm fairly alone there.

the real struggle is figuring out who to hate more of the two sisters.
>>
>>2567051
Actually if he and dragon manage to Mass produce that stuff it would be a hell of a medical boon to EMT's.

If the choices are a two day nap and a kid dying, they'll put the little brat under faster than you can say night-night. It might be incontinent for hero work and/or endbringer fights, but our goop can save lives and no mistake.
>>
>>2567063
>Blue GooTM is a powerful growth and cell regeneration serum, with the minor side effect of causing the subject to fall into a forty eight hour coma
>forty eight hour coma
>>
>>2567081
That is if they don't manage to somehow decrease the backlash from the comatose. I believe between Dragon and Armsy they can easily produce big quantities of the serum.
>>
>>2567080
That's easy: Glory Girl. You know, the girl who's part of a hero team that prides itself on accountability but gets her sister to undo every single one of her skeleton shattering mistakes singularly so she doesn't get in trouble with mommy and daddy. I reckon she's easy to hate than the girl who was basically emotionally neglected to the point of self-loathing and a martyr complex

Your next statement seems to take her off guard.
"You ride that high horse bareback, or do you wear protection?"

She seems somewhat put out by that, and opens her mouth to talk again before you interrupt her.

"Being a capital H Hero was all well and good back in the golden age, when the bad guys were as campy as the good guys and it was all just a real life comic book. And if I ever run into the relics of that era, the Uber's and L33t's of the world, the guys who want money and excitement? Then I'm Manic the superhero, but when you're facing off against someone like Kaiser who aspires to literal genocide? I'll kill without a second thought, because if he ever wins it's over. Understand? If Uber and L33t finish off one of their plans then "Oh no, they pissed off a bunch of guys and made some money." If Lung wins then everyone who fights him dies, no if's ands or buts. When you look at the supervillains with all their glitz and glamour, you forget that kids are getting sawed into pieces in their basements for organ harvesting, women are getting kidnapped off the streets and sold into slavery."

"And I do it because they Deserve this, they're evil, schemers. And they ruin everything they touch."

There's silence for a few seconds as you sit next to each other, until the silence is inevitably broken, though not in the way you quite expected.

"You know, you're quite good at speeches. Really, I mean now and the bank? It's a shame you don't do public speaking or anything."

You stand up to get going as the ambulances take off, the heroes are gonna have cleared up soon and when that happens they'll have to come after you and the Maniacs.

"If you need a rest, I gave Armsmaster a bunch of regeneration meds to replicate, I'm sure he'll pick up the slack if you want to chill a bit. Honestly I'm kind of grateful you're letting me leave unmolested, I kind of thought that you'd want to return the favour."

You call the gang together and head off, leaving a very confused Panacea behind you.

It's dark when you get back to the hideout, and considering that Tattletale is still making weird noises on your couch, you decide to get started on the mission tomorrow.

Issue #6: A real Hero.

It's been three days since Barn disappeared now, and even if you kind of get why he'd bail you still wish he'd have told you. It would have given you time, time to think of a way to help Mom, maybe you could have recorded something. Got some evidence that you could go to the cops with.

You're not dumb, you know that he's probably dead but there's still a part of you that expects him to walk in through the door any minute now with a big dumb grin, and a dumb joke to make you smile. But hoping won't get you out of here, and your brother can't help you now.

You can hear mom and dad downstairs, they're arguing again and like usual these days it's about some imagined failure on mom's part. That bastard doesn't know how lucky he is. Now comes the screaming, and the sounds of violence. It won't end like usual, you know that. Barnaby isn't here to take dad's hits for you.

It's gone quiet downstairs.

You rub the pin on your jumper, a simple smiley face, but Barn got it for you when you went out to the arcade a few years back. Now it's one of the few things you have left.

Go down, it shouldn't be this quiet.
Stay upstairs, you'd rather put off what you know is coming next as soon as possible. Maybe Dad will cool off.

Yeah like I said, blows his brains out. Anons are over thinking this, no need to research or figure out ways to blind him. Just a shot to the head is all you need. You just gotta plan a way to bring him out, like tricking the empire into a gang fight with the ABB, or tricking a hero team into flushing lee out of a hideout, then just sniping him. Though if we wanted it to be fun, we could make a special rifle and compound compressed into a ball that'll blind him on a hit. Like a super pepper spray shot that would hit hard enough to break any face/head gear and kill his eyesight. After that we just capture him and have our "fun".
>>
No, something's wrong, you can't just stay up here like a wuss. You have to go down there, be a man. You can do this. You open the door to your room and you can already tell something's off, your father is rushing around downstairs now, ranting and waving a gun as he yells to himself.

You can see your mother's foot on the floor, just around the corner at the bottom of the stairs, you dad doesn't notice you though, he's too busy freaking out in a corner. Calling your mother all sorts of terrible things and holding his head in his hand, gun hanging loosely at his side.

You only barely notice that, you're too busy rushing to mom's side and trying to stop the blood rushing from her chest. You put your hands over the wound but you it just won't stop, You can hear your dad shouting again now, but you are laser focused, and barely hear him over your own babbling and pleading.

"Mom no, not you too, please! It'll be okay, I'l-"

You're cut off by the bullet in your back, and you slump over your mother's cooling corpse as your blood mixes with hers on the floor.

You can hear now, your father's mad ranting.
"Fucking whore! going behind my back like that, Won't cook properly won't clean properly."

And the other person, bashing on the doorway. You're going to die here, and whoever it is got here just in time to watch you die. The one time anyone ever helped you or mom and they're too damn late. Maybe the old man with the shotgun next door finally had enough of your dad's bullshit, maybe one of your teacher's noticed something was wrong and called the police.

It's kind of funny, in a sick way.

You see two great creatures far above you, floating in an endless starry void.

>a mutilated corpse with a smile carved on its face is what finally brings the S9 to Brockton, the cape population thinking Manic has finally completely lost it

Well provided mom wasnt incinerated and the body was buried not too long ago, very easy to dig it up and get the DNA we need.
>>
>>2567602
Do you really want to disturb mom burial for that? Also doing that with mom's body will most likely just make our brother hunt us down.
>>
Honestly this is probably me being edgy, but I can totally see our brother going full Punisher on Brockton Bay had he not been picked up by Miss Militia and sent to the Wards.
>>
You didn't expect to wake up from your vision, you kinda thought it would be the end actually. Instead you awaken to see Miss Militia wrestling with your father, and a spark of hope flashes through you like current through an electric wire.
It'll be okay, they can get Mom and you to Panacea. The heroes are here.

Then she's shot in the gut by your struggling father, a stray round blasting a hole in her gut for the sheer gall of trying to save you. That brings your attention to the gun, it's a small revolver and looks incredibly poorly made. (How do you know?) It'll almost certainly malfunction at some point and the revolving mechanism is inefficient. He'd be much better off with something Automatic.

You can't let a hero die because you weren't good enough, Barn sure as hell wouldn't. You slowly push yourself to your feet, You're crying from the pain and holding in your guts with both hands, but you're up. A kitchen knife finds it's way into your hand from the table, and you stagger into your father hacking at his arm with a steak knife.

He backhands you away and takes aim, but a shot from the downed hero rips the revolver out of his hands, and it lands perfectly in your grip. Almost the instant you touch it a thousand new ideas burst through your mind for modifications and customisations. You force them to the back though, there's no time.

The Bastard takes two bullets through the chest and one in the head. Falling backwards as he lets out a gurgling whimper.

Michael Campbell and Miss Militia wait there until the police arrive, both of them are crying. One for family lost, and the other for family found.

She understood what is lost when a child has to kill.

And through it all, Mike kept hold of that little pin, now stained with the blood of his mother.

Barn, Where are you?

MM was a child soldier forced to kill people to survive, and obey all orders or get shot instantly, which eventually caused her to get powers. She knows how it feels for a child to kill people, and this makes her and our bro kindred spirits, because our bro went through the same shit as her right then and there.

This happened four days after the start of the quest.

You haven't talked to or seen your little brother in three weeks.

Mike/Giggleswitch thinks that Barnaby is the coolest guy in the universe, and if he'd been even a bit as strong or brave as you then mom would still be alive. He's terrified of manic, as you remind him of Father's worst days, not to mention you use the same model of revolver.
the other Wards have been told how cool you are by Mike, but they're all terrified of Manic, for a myriad of reasons. Gallant is convinced your insane, because he can see the disconnect between your emotions and actions. Kid Win sees you as a dark reflection of himself. Vista is super scared. and Shadow Stalker totally isn't scared, You're scared. Yeah, She's a predator. a badass. very scared

>>2567651

The first option.
His belief in his brother is practically hero worship, and destroying that perception would fuck him up.
He's only like 12, better for him to look up to a dead idol that can be whatever his imagination needs him to be, than a living "hero" that he is half terrified of.
>>
>>2567738

>>2567708
At the moment Armsmaster is having an absolute fit. they've all but lost the city to the gangs, so he's starting to appreciate your methods.

Panacea continues to externalise her unhealthy self image onto you, but is finding it very difficult after seeing you stitch up all those mortally wounded children. Glory Girl is still pretty mad, But her opinion of you is still that you're a dick, just not evil.

>>2567715
The Protectorate as a whole sees you as another (admittedly powerful) Villain, but the local protectorate have far more nuanced opinions.
Assault:Was actually the first to come around in your favour, thinks you need to tone it down a bit sometimes, but given the circumstances your heart seems to be in the right place. He knows how messy Villain/Vigilante fights can get.
Miss Militia: Sees you as another traumatised child soldier, you need to be brought in, but for your own safety, so you can get help and escape the spiral of violence and madness you're stuck in. You're trying to do the right thing, but your problems and traumas are causing you to be helpful in the most unhelpful way possible.

Dauntless: Sees you as the reason for the recent escalation in hostilities, believes that you need someone who can rein you in and stop you from making situations worse.

Velocity:"Isn't that guy like, 110% nutso?"

Battery: Assault is convinced that you're cool, and Battery trusts his gut. but you're clearly far too dangerous to be walking around and doing whatever you want.

Triumph: He's killed enough people to be birdcaged, that makes him a bad guy, it isn't any more complicated than that.

Armsmaster: He blames himself for your actions, and has resolved to be the hero that you- no Everyone deserved. He's thankful in a way.
He's also legitimately thankful for the excuse to cyber up, that shittalk in thread two was actually a legitimate attempt to pass on his thanks, he just said it in the most cack handed way possible.

To the public you're like marmite, people either worship you as the second coming of Hero, or they blame you for the recent roubles, either way they're kind of right.
On /p/ you have transcended beyond your humanity and have achieved immortality as a meme. From Manic'd to [Laughter Intensifies] your face and words are posted thousands of times a day, somehow you have even managed to stay cool despite being acknowledged by normie sites like PHO and Reddit's parahumans board.

Coil has been picked up by his benefactors, he is working for them directly now.

The Undersiders continue to be scaroused by your rapid switch between big hero and supervillain mentalities.
the gang members are also a bit scared, but they would follow you into hell and back if it meant saving their city.

you know its funny, the jokers role in a lot of universes has always been to fuck with heroes(batman usually) to the point that they will kill him. Fujos ship you with either Gallant or Kid Win exclusively.

I think its time to go to war, for realsies. Let's go out with Tat and do some recon, find the bases and safehouses of both ABB and E88, and just start killing them all. Sure, we should let low level gangsters go if they flee, but we should definitely kill all the lieutenants that we can. Its clear that the gangsters are done messing around, and we should nip this in the bud before it gets worse.

We should also issue a public ultimatum to all gangsters and villains in the city, leave or die.

I actually quite like our dynamic with Panacea; it's the right kind of rivalry/mutual sense of (dis)respect that could blossom into something much more playful and wholesome later on, if you continue playing our cards and dice the way we have been.

I doubt anon's will go for her since she's seen as one of the worst girls in Worm, but the ripples we've been making have positively impacted someone as stoic as Armsmaster, and won an ever increasing amount of support/interest from both normal and metahumans alike. Manic's influence might have only scratched the barest surface of the Triumvirate's attention, but for a fucking nobody from Brockton Bay to gain even that after only what, a couple weeks? Maybe a month? We're not picking sides and we've begun a rapid ascension into becoming an icon. Sorry for the tangent, but I think if anything the waifuing should cum second, after our interference turns from tiny ripples and doubts to fucking waves like with what we have with Armsmaster in this thread.

>>2567800
So, exactly how preventable was Mike triggering, if even at all? Anon's putting off seeing our family might have been a decent idea for a day or two, but I knew in the long run that it was only going to spell disaster in the short term.
>>
>>2568751

I'd wager that if we had gone to them Mike's bad day wouldn't have happened, but various factions would catch wind of it and attempt to use them as leverage against us.
>>
>>2567129
>w-we could totally secede guys
>receives fucktons of federal aid during natural disasters
>>
>>2567582
Exactly. Killing him would be a waste. This way, he can still do some good... whether he wants to or not.
>>
>>2568805
Similar to other countries receiving foreign aid when something hard goes down.
Did not say it would be great, but it is the only one who has the realistic ability, what with their own energy grid, guard and systems. Everyone else is too integrated or dependent.
>>
>>2568892
California could do it. New York could do it. A lot of states could do it, but only a few would thrive.
>>
>>2568415
Personally I don't know how we'd kill her, but when she starts her greatest tinker on the planet spiel I'd like to point out that she has a worse track record for her tech exploding than leet does.
>>
>>2568898
California would have some grief over water and will be having major migration issues with people leaving and coming making it a clusterfuck and new york would be a city state that imports massive amounts of food and other shit, unlike a large state that can rely on internal production.
Plus they are on the US grid and don't have their own, so if they piss of the US but not enough for military action suddenly no more power, unlike Texas who won't give a fuck.
Possible but a lot more grief than Texas.
>>
>>2568906
Ah! Good one anon.
>>
>>2568907
Yes, California would rely on help from other nations, like the US. But so would Texas. See: hurricanes and shit.

As I was proofreading this post I realized what a retarded argument this is.
>>
I'm almost tempted to give armsmaster his bike back once we've had a quick look at it, considering his transition to noat-an-asshole and the precariousness of the city atm. That it gives us extra brownie points with the PRT also doesn't hurt.

Also, there's no need to try and bring in more edge. Bear in mind Barnaby doesn't yet know his mums dead and his brother triggered, and that's going to be a shit show to get through.
>>
>>2568961
No. We just did this whole speech about doing actual good, not just "good enough to make people like you" good. Giving him a fucking bike doesn't help and keeping it isn't edgy.
Also metagaming is for tossers.
>>
>>2568961
We don't know about his new trigger also we just gave him our Blue GooTM, that is enough to pay for the bike.
>>
>>2568971
Not to mention Armsy can now build an even better bike to replace the one we stole considering he moved onto Chtulhu-tier tech thanks to that second Trigger event.

You have a problem anon.
>>
>>2567658
It's actually possible for us to have obtained the same revolver timeline wise.

It'd explain why we found it thrown away, Mike didn't want to deal with that shit and somehow it didn't get processed by PRT.

We need a revolver upgrade anyway, even if we don't make use of the gun that often. How long until we can afford a Mateba autorevolver or some sexier revolver. Also sourcing ammunition?
Or possibly a Less than Lethal rubber ball revolver of any sort?
>>
>>2569116
As for upgrades you’d either have to go out and buy a new one, or upgrade it yourself. It’d be nowhere near Giggleswitch’s full auto bullshit machines, but it would be better than it has any right to be.
I just assumed that whenever you ran out, one of the older hangers would pop out and grab some more ammo.
>>
>>2569128
Maybe we're at the point where we need maintainance costs for the gang.

So eventually we HAVE to rob someone to keep operations running. And if we don't have information on gang targets, rock and a hard place on where we source supplies/dosh.
Cost adjustment on black market/sources based on reputation?

And maybe we need a gas grenade counter/pre-mission loadout setup. Because we're just throwing tons of nades now without Armsmaster space-warp tech. It'd also make solid concentrated SmileX/chem blocks useful, as it'd allow us to make more chem items on the field?

I sort of want to keep with revolvers though because it makes it easier to fuck around with the ammo.

Pic related.
>>
>>2569134
Which is what'd make an autorevolver useful (revolver that acts like a semi-automatic. No hard trigger pull like a double-action)
The only problem is the only good modern one is the Mateba, which is expensive.
>>
>>2569128
Guys. /Inconel bullets./
>>
>>2569128
How broken would a Giggleswitch armed with Manic/Giggleswitch tinker-tech be? Alloy bullets would be crazy enough.
>>
>>2569133
These are good points.
I shall implement many of them.
>>
>>2569166
Alloy bullet with chemtech capable to detroy anything in a molecular level. We would be downing capes and endbringers using guns.
>>
>>2569134
Armsmaster tech in revolver/ammo mod

Actual bang flag rounds

>>2569155
For a sniper rifle? Could take down an endbringer via a crackshot. If higgs survived, he could kill an endbringer with that.
>>
>>2569230
capes not so much. Bullet would pass right through.

Bullet damage is about pulling on shit inside you and the pressure damage from compression.

Bullet would be super clean hole that goes through without any issues.
>>
>>2569155
Make them hollow points we could recall with the cane or upgrade our gloves to control them and go shred some capes.

>>
>>2569133
In regards to gas grenades:
We can have a, for all intents and purposes, "unlimited" supply of whatever nades/chem supplies we want if we can make a portable "manufacturing rig" that fits on us.

It'd have to have solid chem blocks that can be diluted and placed within item "shells" (grenade, injector, revolver rounds, etc...) which are deposited into an accessible place on our armor/body.

Means such a rig would only be practical on the Madman's garb. There'd also have to be multiple researches to reach such a rig we can use (super-concentrate chem solids; portable manufacturing/energy sources; etc... )

We'd probably need Armsmaster tech to make it work.

In OTHER news: we need to establish some sort of passive agreement with the PRT if we're continuing down the way we do. Information sharing agreements/ occasional tech support within limitations.

Asking them to not hunt us down isn't gonna happen. But asking for information with a promise to go non-lethal (and let them handle the capturing/processing) with it is probably doable. Might be able to make under-table deals with Armsy/Dragon where we operate under controlled conditions for them where they can't reach.

Also we should probably make an excuse to checkout our old home. We've been gone weeks, god knows what dad's doing :^)

What you said was a really good idea.
I just worry how Barnaby might react when he finds out, on the other hand i think our little bro needs his big brother back even if he is a villain

tfw Barnaby begins doing "Friendly neighborhood spiderman"-esque visits through neighborhoods. Checking if people are alright and if there's shit gang activity happening to civvies ( ABB recruitment shakedowns, organ harvesting, E88 storm throughs)

But also in his own jokery gallows humor way.
>>
>>2569320
the only prt that might actually trust us is armsy and maybe pan, the rest kinda wanna see us in a jailcell.
>>
>>2569320
I believe that if we research armsmaster arm we could possible create something like that. After all his tech specialization is minimisation
>>
>>2569336
>"Hey ABB thugs probably get payed to kill you, I figured I could knock them off for you at no extra charge"
>>
>>2569338
Which is why we'd act under the radar.

I think Armsy and Pan can trust us to keep our word within certain boundaries when we're working "on the same side". They can be ambivalent on us to break our word when we're working against each other if it paves the way for a great joke.

We can make no promises what we do on our own time, but any missions we bargain out of the PRT will follow a rules of engagement.

Half the reason we can't go full non-lethal is that we don't have the same infrastructure as a giant organization. How are we going to capture/process/"rehabilitate" anybody?

For now, it's better for opposing gangs to FEAR attacking innocents within our umbrella. It minimizes violent criminal activity ( organ harvesting for instance ). If we'd non-lethal'd the gangers last time, more of them would be coming now. They'd have no fear of death attacking us.

We put down a cape and left freaky corpses. Now they WONT attack us the same way they attacked PRT. At least not without a lot more hesitation.

If the PRT goes after us for escalating the gangs against them, that's their own damn fault. They finally have felt the fear that civvies on a day to day basis deal with. To try capturing us to capitulate to terrorists only strengthens the terrorists.

Fair though.
Children and upper middle class are probably discomforted by his existence.

Everyone below is happy there's someone even attempting to keep the gangers at bay from them, as the PRT hasn't been able to.
>>
I’m surprised no one has taken inspiration from the gotham city imposters for possible gang outfits/weaponry
>>
>>2569402
We didn't went to much into gang weaponry. We just made some armor for then and use some of the guns we acquired from Coil's assassins. But then again that means that our gang has some comon small arms and at least four energy rifles.
