/qst/ - Quests

Welcome to Okami: Ripples, a /qst/ quest. Inspired by the videogame, Okami.

Set in ancient Japan (Nippon), your presence of throws the story of a battle between good and evil, light and dark, out of whack. Already you have caused irreversible change. But will the changes before good or ill?

Last time, we:
>Played Portal.
>Got mind zapped by a mirror
>Met another god who was kind of an asshole.
>Climbed some rocks and swam in magic water.
>Met yet another god.
>Went full Cowboy on some demons.
>Started a walk-n-talk.

HOW RULES WORKS FOR OKAMI: RIPPLES

1.Players will frequently be called upon for input on actions and dialogue. The dialogue and action options will be displayed as green text and the first one to three (3) votes moves on. Certain actions and dialogues may have special requirements which will be indicated next to them

2.Players may be called to roll any number or combo of dice. The best of the first three (3) will be taken with the exception of crits and failures. Dice priority goes Crit Success>Crit Failure>Non-Crit Roll. If a larger pool of dice are being taken or the dice priority changes, it’ll be stated so.

3.”Write-in” will often be a choice. Please keep Write-ins limited to either a short chain of actions or a short few phrases of dialogue.

As fast as she looks away, Ammy snaps out of it and turns to face you with a smile. “Mou, here I am going on and on about myself when I barely know anything about you, Anon-san.”

Again, you blink the spots from your eyes courtesy of the portal that you just walked through and ponder Ammy’s statement silently for a moment. “Well, what exactly do you want to know?”

“You don’t have to blurt out your entire life story,” Issun pipes up. “I’m getting the feeling our little journey won’t be a short one, so whatever you want to say is fine, cuz I think that stuff you wanted hidden will come out eventually anyway.”

Ammy frowns at the poncle on her shoulder. “While I don’t agree with that last part, I do agree that whatever you wish to say will suffice.”

You chew on your bottom lip and wonder what exactly to share. Obviously, there are some things about yourself you shouldn’t share, but you don’t want to lie to Ammy or Issun either. Choices, choices… Eventually, you settle on omitting some details.

“There is not much to me, honestly,” you say, slowing your pace as the River of the Heavens comes into view. “My family is fairly large, so while there was plenty of support to go around, it also meant periods of needing to be independent while everyone was preoccupied. I don’t like burdening my family, so I fell into the latter category a lot.”

Ammy slows her pace to match yours, her interest plain on her face. Whether it is real or not, you’re not sure.

You collect your thoughts and continue. “I got a job early on, one that required traveling a bit. It paid well enough that I could live comfortably and send the leftover money back home, so I couldn’t complain much. There were some… hazards involved,” you hesitate and go over your next words carefully before saying them. Ammy and Issun don’t need to know that the police were more of a danger than anything else. “But really, that just comes with the territory. I recently took a more sedate position and was pondering joining the military like my brother, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather all did before me. I think that this little trip is a bit more important than that, however,” you say with a smile.

The goddess beside you looks up at the sky, a “Hmmm” humming in her throat. Eventually she says; “So you’re from a clan of warriors? I should’ve guessed from how easily you helped me dispatch those Imps. Why delay in becoming a soldier? I’m sure with your ‘Redhawk’ you would have been decorated in accolades and awards by now from successful campaign after successful campaign.”

Hooo boy. If a literal goddess is impressed by something like a revolver, then it’s probably best to keep your knowledge of autoloading guns to yourself. “The job I took opened suddenly and would have been gone if I waited. By my homes standards, I was still too young to join the military, so I took what I could get.”

Both she and Issun accept the answer easily enough. By now, you’re at the edge of the River of the Heavens again. Ammy wastes no time and barely gives Issun a “Hang on” before jumping in the water and gliding through it like a rocket.

And your heart just settled from the fight, too. Great.

Yeah, whatever. You’re not rushing across this water again. It’ll be fine. You wade into the gaseous water-but-not-water to roughly thigh height before taking your time crossing the magic river. Idly, you wonder if the river is actually made of stardust or if it’s some sort of condensed magic energy. As far as you are aware, it could be both. The longer you remain in the water, however the more an odd tingling sensation in the middle of your chest increases.

Something stirs…

Ehh. It’s probably nothing.

When you make it to the other side of the river, Ammy is standing there at the shore with an amused expression. “Taking your sweet time, I see.”

You roll your eyes and offer her a grin. “It’s not that I was going slow, but you were going fast. Try not to leave the poor mortal behind next time, alright?” You punctuate your statement by splashing a handful of stardust water at her as you rise out of the river.

She freezes and lets out a very canine yelp when the water splashes over her despite the fact that it evaporates away instantly. Ammy shakes away nonexistent drops hanging to her before she levels you with a halfhearted glare, her cheeks puffed out. Then she dips a finger into the ink on her tail and it’s your turn to freeze.

As far as you are aware, the only things she can currently do with her brush powers are repair things and dice things up. Nothing on you is broken…

Oh shit.

She points an ink covered finger at the water behind you with authority before dragging the finger over her perspective of you. The water behind you churns, but the power compelling it fizzles out.

You let out a breath you didn’t even realize you are holding and look down at your midsection. You’re not bisected and your entrails are not spilling out. Did she have a third power that you’re not aware of?

“What was up with that, furball?” Issun questions from her shoulder. “Did you meet another Brush God when we weren’t looking?”

On a stares at her hand, her visage troubled before she immediately shakes it away for a more neutral expression. “I… apologize for that. I made a half remembered motion hoping for a half remembered result. I attempted to do… something with the water, but apparently it’s beyond my reach at the moment. If my control had slipped…” The ominous statement hangs without an ending
>>
>>2556144
Ammy tightly clasps her hands in front of her as you rise out of the water. Once you’re on the shore with her, she bows deeply at the waist, almost accidentally dumping Issun on the ground if her quick hand did not catch him. “I apologize, Anon-san. I saw the fright on your face and still mindlessly attempted to use a power I should have known I would not have on you in the vain hope that memory would come with it,” she says quietly and with a rueful snort at the end. “You already face peril from the enemies we will encounter, and I should not be contributing to it even if accidentally.”

A goddess is actually bowing to you.

You stare at her moments, indecision gnawing at you. On one hand, one slip up on her end would have subjected you to a grisly and painful death. On the other hand…

Ammy remains sharply bowed, her ears pinned back and eyes closed. She is well and truly sorry. Honestly, she might be suffering in this situation even worse than you considering the gaps in her memory. Plus, she didn’t actually hurt you so should you be angry?

You shake your head. “Ammy, there is no need to bow. I’m fine and in one piece, so no harm, no foul.”

Slowly, Ammy raises her head. “Are you certain, Anon-san?” she asks unsurely. “If I had-”

“I’m certain,” you cut her off with a smile. “I’m not about to be upset over one misstep. Just keep the invisible ink blades and that monsters, okay?”

Slowly, Ammy mirrors your smile.

Your forgiving attitude pleased Amaterasu! Your reputation with Amaterasu increased!
Your reputation with Amaterasu increased!

“Glad we got that out of the way,” Issun says. “Now maybe you could…” his green aura changes to an angry red. “...Not catapult me off your shoulder so suddenly, furball! Between that and the flick that you gave me, I get the feeling that you’re jealous of my good looks!”

Ammy’s shoulders shake with barely suppressed mirth as she lets Issun hop back up. “Of course, Issun-san. That’s exactly it.”

The poncle just snorts.

With yet more drama out of the way, your little party advances onwards through the floating islands of land and the bridges that connect them.

Then a another thought occurs to you as you pass over one of the bridges. “Just how hard is it to learn brush powers, anyway? Ammy seems to get them instantly, and you, Issun, said that you have Rejuvenation mastered.”

“When they say good brushwork has its own soul, they aren’t joking around,” Issun says, his aura changing back to green. “It’s taken me years of studying in and out on just Rejuvenation to get where I am now. I’m sure that with even more practice and studying, I should be able to learn whatever Ammy-chan learns... Though, I’ll probably be an old coot once I have them all down…” He grumbles at the end.

Ammy smiles and lets out a quiet giggle. “There is no need to be upset, Issun-san. As the actual creator of the brush techniques, I can say with no arrogance that surpassing me in their use is quite impossible.”
>>
>>2556355
Issun groans and slumps over on her shoulder.

“N-Not that your current mastery isn’t impressive!” Ammy hastily adds on. “There are a few that can hold a candle to you, Issun-san.”

You cross your arms and smirk. With these two, this little adventure certainly won’t be dull.

By now, you all have traversed to the floating islands and are nearly back to the first one with the portal back to the Konohana tree. Again, you happened by the Origin Mirror that you use the first time. It still looks exactly the same and shines ethereal light onto its stone pedestal.

You look over to Ammy as the Origin Mirror comes into view. “I don’t know about you two, but I’m going to try the mirror again. Who knows? It might do something this time.”

Ammy frowns. “The mirror doing something is exactly what I worry about. I will go first again,” she says. Before you can stop her, she sits in seiza in front of the mirror on the stone pedestal again, bathed in the ethereal light. She takes a breath, closes her eyes, and rests her hands in her lap. Like the last time, the mirror lights up to a blinding sheen for a split second, then dies back down. Ammy opens her eyes with a frown and stands again.

“Exactly the same as last time…” she murmurs. She steps out of the ethereal lights and off the stone pedestal, making it clear for you.

You step up onto the pedestal and sit in seiza with better results than last time, but you can’t help the occasional squirm of discomfort. Like her, you take a breath and fold your hands and your lap.

Images rush past your mind’s eye yet again. Your memories, experiences, and the waking dream preceding your drop into Nippon, refreshing everything in your mind. You grit your teeth, but aren’t thrown off balance since you were expecting at this time.

You stand and blink away the dizziness that came with the sudden mindbending experience, but do not stumble as you stand back up.

“Are you alright, Anon-san?” Issun questions. “No sudden freak out this time?”

You glance back towards Ammy and Issun, your eyes zeroing in on Issun’s green glow. “Yeah, I’m fine. Let’s get out of here and restore the village. What’s it called? Camile key?”

“Kamiki,” Ammy corrects. “And you’re right, we are almost there,” she says, tail wagging in slowly growing excitement. “Let’s get moving!”

The rest of the trip to the portal back to the Konohana is brisk with such a short distance to go.
>>
>>2556507
Ammy and Issun pass through the glowing wall of light first without so much as a sound. How strange that you never noticed that it makes no sound. Oh well. You walk forward as well, passing through without any resistance and again feeling the strange sensation of a ghostly, spring wind on your back. Once you’re all the way through, it takes your eyes some time to adjust to the sudden darkness at the top of the Konohana tree hill. You look around as your vision comes in the focus, noting with no small amount of horror that in your time gone, it’s gotten even darker outside and the greenery has faded into a dead brown.

Cursed!
Cursed status resisted by Passive Ability “???”

You walk back up to Ammy’s side as she stares at Sakuya’s enormous fruit near the top of the tree. The pink peach look-alike still shakes and glows strongly even after being exposed to the curse for so long. If Sakuya is to be trusted, then cutting it down will fix this mess.

Ammy slowly brings an ink covered finger to bear. “Here goes nothing,” she says, drawing a line of ink midair as the world flashes to parchment again.

The stem of the enormous fruit is severed cleanly, letting it drop, and making you realize that “enormous” was too weak a word. The great pink monstrosity is at least as tall as you and probably five times as wide. The fruit crashes to the ground, but instead a bursting into pulp and juice, it splits open cleanly.

And outcomes a rush of pure magic

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sKVBXNEee5w

A wave of pink energy races out of the fruit, carrying with it countless flower petals of all colors, nearly bowling you over with its sheer intensity. The life-giving tide of pink and flower petals instantly revives the dead grass under your feet and all around you, returning it to a vivid green. Even further, the slowly withering trees all around the Konohana groan and flex, suddenly regaining volume as their branches filled with luscious green. The ponds around the hill and the river leading into the village below are cleansed near instantly, the dark and certainly toxic water in them instantly clearing to a near sapphire blue.

The sight’s beauty is almost indescribable, making your throat choke up with emotions that you can’t identify.

Your reputation with Sakuya increased!

The stirring grows

Ammy looks around with you, her own jaw-dropping just the slightest amount before she closes her mouth again.

“Wow! The village's been restored! Sakuya came through big time!” Issun exclaims, jumping from Ammy’s shoulder to the top of her head. “She really was protecting the village! But I sure wish I coulda spent some more time in her kimono, if ya know what I mean!”

Both you and Ammy look at Issun with raised eyebrows. Is that how he protected himself from the curse initially?

“Heh heh heh heh heh!” Issun giggles lecherously. “But seriously, with monsters runnin' around and all... the village could still be in danger. Let's go see how they're all doing down there.”

“A sound plan, so long as you don’t find your way into any more kimonos,” Ammy says with a sniff, closing her kimono up a little more. Fucking Issun, making it worse for both of you.

Even with all of the nature restored, the area is still eerily quiet. You, Ammy, and Issun to send the path towards Kamiki village, eventually coming to the area where you were dropped into Nippon. The road forks right and left, the right leading upward and the left leading to the village according to a sign between the fork. Near the sign, a statue of a man with a face covering straw kasa hat, flute, and simple robes stands.

Issun hops from Ammy head towards the statue. “What in the world? I don’t remember there being a statue here.”

You step forward with Ammy, inspecting the statue as well. The stone is perfectly smooth and absolutely riveted with details. The statue maker who made this is an unrivaled master.

A frown marrs Ammy’s pretty face. “Anon-san? Issun-san? This statue looks very… lifelike.”

… Or maybe there was magic involved in creating this thing?

“...Yeah, now that I really look at it, this is way better than what human hands can make,” Issun says, hopping a bit closer. “It’s kind of giving me the heebie-jeebies. Let’s keep moving.”

Your party briskly takes the path down to Kamiki, coming in at the south side of the village.

Taking in the sights around you, it fits the definition of village perfectly. Quaint, classical Japanese buildings and homes are scattered about along a main road and a modest river passes through the center. You would be surprised if even 50 people lived here.

But at the moment, it looks as if zero people live here. The sights and sounds associated with the village are completely absent.

“Lady and weirdo, I really do not like the looks of this,” Issun says in a rare moment of seriousness. “We need to look around and see what happened.”

With a little smirk at the memory, you channel your inner Fred and say “Alright gang, let’s split up and search for clues. The faster we figure out what’s going on, the better.”

Ammy nods, then stops and looks at you, her expression anxious. “Will you be alright?”

You pat the gun under your shirt. “I’ll be fine.”

Again, she hesitates for a moment but nods again. “I’ll move to the other side of the village and search inward so that we meet up in the middle. Is that agreeable?”

“Sounds good to me.”

Ammy lets out a sigh and turns to leave. “Stay safe, Anon-san,” she says, rocketing away at inhuman speed than leaving you to your lonesome.

After a moment’s debate, you decide that the blacksmith shop is worth investigating first. You’re not sure what to tell you to make the choice, but it just seemed logical.

You walk down Kamiki’s main road, passing a house with a comically large orange on top of it, a small farmhouse and the field just across the road from it. The blacksmith shop is situated between the small farm field and the river dividing Kamiki in half.

The shop appears to be an open air blacksmith attached to the front of a small home. The front is very open, being just an awning supported by wooden beams. It makes sense, considering the immense heat that comes with blacksmithing. Inside are the staples of a common blacksmith, like a forge (that is now dark and cold), a large wooden quenching bucket, an assortment of tools like hammers and tongs, a wall rack of either repaired or freshly created farming tools, a smaller rack of swords, and an anvil situated low to the ground. The back of the shop has a closed sliding door that probably leads into the home within.

But the thing that grabs your attention right away is the immensely realistic stone statue hunched over the anvil. Stepping closer, it looks like an old man with a shaved head and face. His weathered face is locked into a furrow browed expression of concentration on the bar of iron in his left hand that is braced against the anvil. In his right hand, a hammer is raised over his head.

It’s exactly like the statue that you saw on your way into the village.

Feeling a strange chill running down your spine, you step back.

You shake away the chill and steel yourself. Stepping further into the blacksmith shop, you look deeper and try to find anything especially telling or out of place.

A quick glance over the blacksmith tools reveals nothing in particular. You’re not much for metallurgy, but the poor quality iron that ancient Japan was known for seems strangely absent here. The iron tools are crude, sure, but they appear that they would hold up to modern standards.

The forge has almost completely gone out, and only by waving your hand inside the you feel the slightest bit of warmth. There must be a coal base still burning deep inside.

Stepping away from the forge, you turn to the quenching bucket. Again, nothing jumps out at you as out of place sans a chemical smell from the liquid inside, but for all you know this blacksmith uses a special solution to quench his creations in.

Slightly further back behind the forge is a chest too heavy to move and a bare armor manikin. Opening it up, you see the inside is filled with iron ingots. Just beside it is a small metal box that is locked. The small metal box jingles in your hands when shaken. Setting it down, you turn to the wall racks.

The larger wall rack is filled with an assortment of farming tools. Hoes, shovels, scythes, plows and a smaller assortment of hand tools. The smaller rack next to it has a small selection of identical swords.

Feeling curiosity overcome you, you pick up one of the swords, which is contained in a simple wooden sheath and unsheath it.

Well, you’ve already rummaged through the shop and found nothing. Perhaps the inside of the home will shed some light on what’s going on?

You walk towards the sliding door and opened it just the slightest amount before your entire body seizes up so suddenly and so painfully that dots dance in your vision. Something screams in a voice that makes no sound, but still penetrates into the deepest reaches of your mind.

Everything beyond the door is complete and utter black. And you’re well aware of what happens when you stare into an abyss.

Perfect Save!
Twice Critical!

Through sheer force of will, you growl and force the presence trying to invade your mind back, returning you to the blessed quiet in your mind. At the same time, you slam the door shut and backpedal, drawing your Super Redhawk and jumping over the statue of the old man in one seamless motion.

A split-second later, a green Imp throws the sliding door open and rushes out, wisps of purple energy radiating out of it. It lets out a mangled cry somewhere between a screech and a roar and lunges.

…Too bad it’s already in your sights.

The eye looking down your sight narrows. “Sayonara, bitch.”

The 44 Magnum is like thunder in the enclosed space, shaking dust from the walls and ceiling in its fury. The fireball from the muzzle of your gun lights up the dark shop for a split second, and a bullet with enough power to drop a grizzly bear speeds forward.

The Imp stood no chance.

10 damage!
Overkill!

The bullet utterly destroys the Imp’s head, pink mist and shards the bone flying everywhere. The demon can’t even hit the ground it’s dead so fast, instead dissolving into ash midair

Hm, my inner munchkin really wants to get an early boost to our main combat stats so we'll have an easier time defeating enemies thus easier time gaining EXP.
Also, I don't think we should focus too much on Int unless we decide to become a spellslinger-type character since it's mainly for magic.

I was thinking of leveling our stats like this:
5 Dex -> 1 Dex / 2 End / 2 Vit -> 3 Dex / 2 Vit - > 1 Vit / 3 End / 1 Int

In just four levels we'd have 15 Dex, 10 Vit, and 10 End, giving us a good foundation for combat where we can then start dabbling into the other stats that we feel are appropriate to our character.

>>

That sounds like a good plan right there; I was thinking about putting in VIT and END. I guess we could take INT later on. We'll probably need it sooner rather than later due to our mysterious "???" power, and also to be smarter. After all, we ARE in another world, I think we need some INT to understand what's happening later.
But the question is, how will we heal ourselves? What's the point of VIT if we can't heal immediately?
>>
>>2558372
>>2558408
>>2558453
In that case that 1 point into Int at lvl 4 I suggested would allow us to go 4 Int / 1 Luk at lvl 5, after having established the foundation for our M.C.S.s.
I suspect that would be around the time we could seriously start learning some earlier forms of magic anyways.

Also, I'm not sure how much we'll need Str, but at the very least I'd like to get it to the point where we won't have a difficult time climbing stuff or lifting a certain lazy doggo.
Who knows, we might end up getting a huge fuckoff cannon some time down the line, but I'd be content just making it our dump stat for the most part.
>>
>>2558453

It's a shame I didn't find this quest until today. I would've liked our character to have an actual name to make him more memorable and help nail down his nationality, but from what I've read so far Anon-san seems to be an American what with being a part of a large military family and actually owning a (needlessly powerful) custom revolver.
If he were Japanese, then he would've had to move to another country with less strict gun laws or be a professional criminal of some importance.
Could be one of his family members were stationed in Japan, got hitched, and then the couple moved back to America.
Who knows?
>>
>>2558892
I much preferred the idea that Anon is a Psudo-Avatar of the American Cowboy made manifest in a modern light. Granted it may not be as interesting as someone of Japanese mythology or relations, but it gives us the freedom to go beyond the restrictions of the mythos and defy what fate may have in store for Ammy and Us.

When no more danger comes, you let out a sigh and lower your revolver. Ammy probably heard the gunshot and is racing towards you now. You make your way back towards the entrance of the blacksmith, and sure enough hear bare feet practically flying across the grass.

“Anonymous!”

Ammy is skids to a stop just in front of you, a snarl on her face and her Divine Reflector already hovering over her hand and ready to strike. Her golden eyes scan you up and down and then the area behind you. When she sees nothing, the ferocious look drops from her face and is instead replaced with concern.

“Are you all right, Anon-san?” she asks, again looking you over. “Issun and I heard a loud bang and knew it could only be you. What happened?”

“It was a stray Imp,” you start, looking Ammy dead in the eye. “Naturally, I shot it. It wasn’t a fan.”

The tension leaves Ammy’s shoulders and she rolls her eyes, but Issun has a short laugh. “So there was an Imp in old man Hiro’s smithy, huh?” he says, bouncing off of Ammy’s head to take a closer look into the smithy. He only gets to the front of the shop before he stops and bounces in place. “Oh geez. Hey, Ammy-chan! Come take a look at this!”

Ammy cautiously follows Issun, her reflector still drawn backwards and ready to strike. She takes a look inside and her eyes immediately fall to the statue. “Another one…” she murmurs.

“Another one?” You inquire, walking up beside her and holstering your gun.

She nods, her hair and wolf ears bobbing with the motion. “Yes. Issun and I searched a pair of residences on the other side of the village. Both of them contained lifelike statues of people within. I fear that the curse over Kamiki isn’t completely broken yet.”

You snap your head to the side to stare at her. “No way…”

The absolutely unreal amount of magic that Sakuya put out from her fruit restored the life to all the greenery around the village. Before today, your experience with the supernatural was limited to smoke and mirrors, but even you could tell the absurd amount of power that Sakuya’s fruit released when it was broken.

And that wasn’t enough?

“Maybe the curse just needs one last kick to get out,” Issun ponders aloud as he hops back up to his spot on Ammy’s head. “We would need something pretty ridiculous even if Sakuya did most of the legwork. Maybe if we wait until morning or something, the sun can purge of the last bits?”

To look up at the sky, noting how it’s completely pitch black. There aren’t even any stars out. If it weren’t for the moons baleful light, then you and your party would have been thrown into total darkness.

>”Maybe it’s best if we hunker down until the sun comes up.”
>”Well, there’s no use in just standing around. Let’s keep looking around until sunrise.”

You bring a hands to your chin in thought. Issun says that you’ll need something on par with sunlight to purge the rest of the curse. Of course, the obvious option is to wait until sunrise, but that comes with its own set of risks. There was something… off about the imp that attacked you, and you’re not exactly eager to find out what, or if it’s brethren are interested in revenge.

You don’t really have anything that can help in this situation, and as far as you know Issun’s specialty is the Rejuvenation ability, and Ammy can already do better.

Ammy…

You almost smack your forehead. Of fucking course. She may be weakened and missing some of her memory, but she is the SUN goddess. You really hope that what you have in mind for work.

”Ammy, you are the goddess of the sun… is there maybe anything you can do?” you ask the wolfy goddess. “You did say that was your primary aspect, after all.”

She blinks and furrows her brows in concentration, her left hand twitching along with her tail. “I… I believe so. Even with my other abilities stripped, there was always one… I have to be able to…” She is silent for a moment as she stares at her hand. Finally, she says “Is there somewhere with an unobstructed view of the sky?”

“Yeah, there is the sacred deck up at the top of the hill that Mr. Orange uses for his dance thing every year,” Issun says. “It’s got the best view for miles.”

You’re not really sure who Mr. Orange is, or why he has a yearly dance thing, but if this deck can help then so be it. “Well, what are we waiting for?”

You and your party retrace your steps back up the hill that you used to get to Kamiki from the Konohana tree. At the midway point, where the creepy statue still stands solemnly, Issun leads both you and Ammy up a smaller, cobblestone paved path to a massive wooden overhang. Built off of the hill, it hangs slightly over the river and gives a view of both the Konohana tree and the village, as well as the pitch black sky.

Ammy stares up at the sky with unfocused eyes. “Yes… I remember it. Nothing could ever take this power away from me…” she murmurs in a dreamy voice almost too low to hear.

She dips her left index finger into the tip of her tail and slowly raises her hand above her head. Like all the times previous, color bleeds away from the world and leaves behind parchment with just a black outlines.

“Wait a minute…” Issun says. “There’s no way!”

You want to say the same thing, not at all expecting where this was going. You thought that she had some other power she may have been able to use. But to do this?

Ammy takes no heed of any words spoken, and instead draws a perfect circle in the middle of the darkness above.

Bright, burning light suddenly blooms into existence in the sky, pushing away the inky darkness without even the slightest resistance.
>>
>>2560645
Ammy just summoned the sun from nowhere. The actual, real sun.

All around and below in the village, the blackness and by proxy, the curse still clinging to the village of Kamiki is stripped away in great, evaporating wisps of dark smoke. The sky goes from being dark and barren, too bright blue and filled with soft clouds. The chill of the night is immediately replaced with the gentle warmth of a spring day, chasing the cold from your limbs and making you feel more awake than you ever had before.

Eventually, you’ll stop being so damn impressed by miracles.

Cursed status removed!

“Holy shit…” you mutter under your breath, still looking at the sky with wide eyes.

Issun can barely even form words. ”Wh-Wh-What the!?” He stutters incoherently for a moment, for once falling still on top of Ammy’s head. After a moment, he gathers himself and bounces in place once more. “Man oh man. I guess I should have figured that you would have the sunrise technique from the beginning, considering the whole goddess thing. With it, you could even turn night into day... Wow! You're no run-of-the-mill god, that's for sure!”

You almost choke on nothing. Run-of-the-mill god. That’s an oxymoron if you’ve ever heard one.

“The flowing brush is like music from the heavens. That's a line from one of my grandfather's poems. He felt a skilled artist was like a musician of shape and color.” Issun continues on. “Since you're such a great artist yourself, why don't we name your brushwork after that poem of his? It's called Celestial Brush! After all, your brush did bring out the sun!”

Ammy seems to snap out of her trance and blinks down her left hand, the beginnings of a smile on her face. The beginnings of that smile. “Celestial Brush, hmm?” she mumbles something under her breath that’s too glad to hear. Then, that smile comes in her face. “I like it.”

“Hmm? Who might you all be?”

You and Ammy whirl around to meet the new voice. Rather than something wanting to pick a fight, there is instead an old man standing at the entrance of the deck.

“Mr Orange?” Issun questions.

Mr. Orange, as Issun named him, is merely an old man. His hunched stature, gnarled walking stick, and along the white beard and mustache hints at his advanced age. You can only wonder how old he truly is considering how short life spans to be during this age. On the top of his head sits a perfectly balanced orange. Why? You’re not terribly certain, but you’re sure there’s some odd custom here that explains it.

Mr. Orange grunts and stamps his walking stick. “Young lovers, hmm? I thought I told the youngsters in the village that the sacred deck is not any place to be hiding yourself away,” he says in his gravelly voice.

You immediately feel your face burn a vicious red at the implication. Looking over at Ammy, you see she has a dusting of pink across her own cheeks. “Elder Orange, I believe you misunderstand…” she starts, only to be cut off.

“Wait a moment, I don’t believe that I recognize you two,” the old man carries on, stepping closer as he does so. He scratches his chin through his beard and thought. “Yes, you two aren’t from around here, are you? I would remember an obvious foreigner,” he says, looking to you, “and I would remember a head of beautiful white hair. It’s not often that we see that.”

Ammy immediately forgets her previous bashfulness to preen under the complement. “Beautiful? Well, I suppose it is…” she says with a grin, playing with a few strands of her hair.

No comment on the wolf ears, wolf tail, eyes, or red tattoos? You wonder, before remembering what Ammy explained previously. That’s right,no one can see her godly features.

“Why, it even reminds me of the snow white fur of the heroic Shiranui,” Mr. Orange says with a chuckle. “Though, I can’t say you look as smart as the wolf.”

Instantly, the grin falls from Ammy’s face, instead replaced with an offended snarl and a very canine growl deep in her throat.

“Wh-Wh-Whoa! No need to growl like that. I'm not one to mince words. I just state the facts,” Mr. Orange says, jumping back and raising his arms like he had any chance against a furious wolf girl.

Although you’re certain she wasn’t pleased by the swing at her intelligence, you don’t think that Ammy would lose her temper enough to actually growl at somebody. With that in mind, you follow her eyes, seeing that they go beyond Mr. Orange.

Up above at the very top of the hill that the deck sits just under, a trio of Imps stare down, flutes gripped tightly in their leprous hands.

“Hmm? What is this sudden chill I feel?” Mr. Orange asks, suddenly shivering.

Shit…

-------

The imps screech and their high-pitched, irritating voices, the one furthest left even brings its flute up to its lips and plays a horribly off key tune. Then, as one they jump down.

Before they can reach the floor of the deck, Ammy rushes forward towards Mr. Orange, who panics and flails when Ammy grabs him by the back of his blue robes and hurls him right over the side of the deck. Mr. Orange’s panic fades from hearing after a splash of water is heard.

Unfortunately, the maneuver leaves Ammy surrounded as the Imps jump down around her in a triangle formation. The closest one to you is a mere 3 yards away, with Ammy right behind it. The other two are about 10 yards away, flanking either side of the deck entrance.

What a pain in the ass.

Snap Shot!
SP 10/12

You rip your gun out of its holster so fast it may as well have teleported. The first Imp is in your sights so fast that it has no hope to dodge. It can only glance back your way by the time the trigger is nearly all the way pulled.

BANG!

4 damage!
Overkill!

The bullet flies through the Imp’s sternum, killing it in a single hit and pulling a trail of bone and blood with it…

… As it flies right at Ammy.

The goddess’s eyes widen, and moving so fast that your eyes can’t even track the movement, she brings her reflector in front of her. She manages to muster her defense with only a split second to spare. The bullet splatters against the divine instrument, sending copper and lead spalling everywhere, including sharp pieces that reflect just right and embed themselves painfully into the wolf goddess’s legs.

1 damage!
Your reputation with Amaterasu decreased!

Distracted with defending herself from the bullet, Ammy had no chance to react to the Imp on your left, who rushes in and swings at her exposed side with its flute, creating a painful THWACK at the impact and driving the air from her lungs.

2 damage!

The final Imp brings its flute to its mouth and takes aim at you. Taking a deep breath, the demon blows a purple dart out of the flute like a dart gun that flies squarely for you.

The dart is fast, but you’re faster. You sidestep the dart them watch as it flies over the edge of the deck with a whistle and flies down towards the village. You can only hope that someone isn’t hit by that.

By now, the first Imp you hit is nothing but ashes, leaving just the other two. The imp on the left is within arms reach of Ammy, who is swiftly shaking off her pain. The one on the right lowers its flute and looks between you and Ammy, the beginnings of an angry screech in its throat..

>3 Ballistic on right imp

Ammy snarls, her expression animalistic and bowel-loosening. Even with her legs injured, she is far from immobile. She raises a leg back and unleashes a devastating backwards kick right at the Imp practically breathing on her neck. The demon raises its flute in a desperate, but vain defense. Ammy’s foot easily breaks it and barrels right into the top of the imp’s chest, almost on its neck, with a horrifying crunch. The demon flies backward 5 yards into the railing around the deck without an arc to its flight. When it hits the railing, the wood groans as the imp’s back is folded around it with yet another sickening crunch.

5 damage!
Overkill!

The demon was probably already dead from the initial kick. Sending it flying and destroying its spine with such a humbling display of strength was just insult to injury.

The now lone Imp panics as your gun turns to it. It jukes to the right in a clumsy dodge, but can’t quite dodge the 44 caliber projectile. Instead of a direct hit, the bullet carves a line in the demon’s side in a grazing blow.

1 damage!

The imp howls and clutches it’s side, but manages a counterattack by blowing yet another dart at you through its flute. The dart is slower and has a greater arc than last time, but it’s still on target

Critical Failure!

While the dart is indeed going slower than last time, you completely underestimated how fast you would have to dodge. Just as you start the move, the dart is already upon you and lands right in your sternum with a muted thud.

3 damage!

You gasp and recoil, stepping back from the sudden stabbing pain. You take a deep breath and note with no small amount of fear the breath hurts. That dart probably hit a lung

“Anon!” Ammy screams, her eyes wide in horror.

How did this go tits up so fast?

You try to ignore the nauseating taste of copper in your mouth and raise your gun again.

Before you can do anything however, the world’s color bleeds away into a now familiar parchment before flashing back. A split-second later, the Imp is split down the middle by an invisible blade without even the chance to evade or defend itself.

5 damage!
Overkill!

The demon can only let out an agonized gurgle before the two parts slowly separate and fall to the ground. It dissolves into foul ash just a moment later.

Lowering your revolver, you look towards Ammy, who is scowling at the pile of ashes with a finger still extended towards it. That certainly explains what happened.

And with that, it’s finally over.

I would have voted a write in to "borrow" the sword from the cursed blacksmith because I immediately thought of how shit would go down when Ammy would be in the thick of things making our gun useless if we care about collateral damage.
Anons were to focused on their cowboy and metal gear memes to realize the danger we put Ammy in every time we fight because she's pretty much always in the line of fire.
We need to get a melee weapon, asap.

To be honest that sounds just as boring since it now pigeon holes us even further into something that forces us to act more like a stuttering jackass during the story and quite frankly I kinda grew sick and tired of it in other quests because it.
>Anons were to focused on their cowboy and metal gear memes to realize the danger we put Ammy in every time we fight because she's pretty much always in the line of fire.

Did you not notice that her getting injured will encourage us to not do that sort of fuck up again in the future? Because it tells us that sort of shit can just as happen easily with a sword.

It would probably spoil things later if I said. I will say there are quite a few rep ranks on either side of 'neutral' and some characters have different or more ranks than others.

>>2567588
That's fair QM, I just figured that from the way the stats are lined out that the Rep would take the longest to level up due to how we act towards people. Which with that in mind makes Charisma a potential powerhouse for the long run. Anyway, thanks for answering my question QM.

>To be honest that sounds just as boring since it now pigeon holes us even further into something that forces us to act more like a stuttering jackass during the story
You missed the point then.
I'm not advocating for us to act like a generic isekai protagonist, that's awful, just saying we could have gone with some misdirection for comedic effect since it's a different world/time period, think more Bill and Ted's excellent Adventure, less Isekai light novel, but it's not that egregious, not like the backstory will really matter much in the long run.

>Did you not notice that her getting injured will encourage us to not do that sort of fuck up again in the future?
The only way to avoid that is to not shoot at all while she's in the bullet's line, you can't prevent bullets from piercing the target and continuing on, what if we can't tell her to get away or she's in a bind and can't get away even if she heard us?
In that situation we're useless with just the gun just like in in the ambush that happened where the demons were smart enough to use a triangle formation.
It means that shooting would carry too high a risk, and if she tried to get out, the demons might cut her off, unless you think bashing with the gun is a good alternative to a proper side weapon, we'd be just as useful as Issun.
It's risky business being only ranged while her style is up close and personal, is what I'm saying, we should be prepared; What if a demon gets too close to us, by surprise and we can't shoot it properly? What if we have to reload in the middle of battle but don't have time before the enemy hits us? What if demons are ganging up on Amaterasu and we can't get a clear shot? That's when we pull out the sword, and with a sword's slash there's less chance of friendly fire.

>I've been down for the whole Samurai Cowboy shtick since the thread where we picked up the revolver.
Then you are my brother either way, barring the cowboy shtick we can also go full pic related.

It wasn't much a stutter as it was to show Anon trying to change the subject since he knows he ain't no noble.
Can't be conveyed right through text.
The whole backstory was mostly a jokey joke anyway, Anon just ripping off something so he wouldn't feel so inept as the only human in group with a dude who can rejuvenate things with his brush and a Goddess of the sun with even stronger brush powers.

My nigga, shame it use motion control shit.
Hell, we could also invest in STR as well as DEX and use punches and kicks along with our revolver instead of a sword, we'll probably become stronger than human at some point with Praise.
>"You call firing a handcannon around a martial art?"
>"Hey, as long as it works."
But, yeah, sword's better.
>>
>>2568116
It's a good assessment since STR and DEX will end up being the damage/accuracy boosting stats to put the hurt on enemies. However I've been thinking about the Reputation stat and how it's affected by everything we do and the CHA stat supposedly boosts our Rep Gains, so at some point after the next level up we should invest a few points into it so we can get the Rep Gains to a respectable speed.

>It occurs that the sword and gun seem to have the same hit roll for melee. Is there supposed to be a significant performance difference there?
It scales with STR. The way I see it, while the Redhawk will always do 1d4 bashing, a sword coupled with the STR stat will out do it in melee easily, A gun's strength is ranged combat after all.

With the last demon dead, the deck falls into silence. Or it does for a moment before Ammy rushes to your side, her eyes glued to the dart sticking out of your chest.

“Geez, that was way rougher than last time.” The poncle says, bouncing up from his spot on Ammy’s head. “Are you two okay?”

“I’m mostly unhurt,” Ammy says, blowing out a breath that tussles her bangs as inspects the purple plumed dart. Without waiting or asking, she wraps her hand around your bicep with a steel grip and lowers you into a sitting position with your back against the railing, careful not to aggravate the dart. You don’t resist, since you know she could just force you if she truly felt like it.

Carefully, the goddess looks closer to the dart. “Anon-san, Please take a deep breath.”

You take a deep breath like she asks, wincing slightly when it stings.

Her ear twitches, then with a nod to herself she quickly rips the dart out.

You let out a hiss at the sharp pain and looked down at the slowly bleeding hole.

“Looks like you got away without a sucking chest wound,” Issun says, hopping from Ammy’s head to your shoulder. “If that got all the way down to your lungs, then you would have been in a world of trouble.”

Taking another breath, you note that Issun is correct. There is no air escaping from your wound. If that was just an inch or two on either side, that could have been the end.

Ammy lets out a sigh of relief and slides down to her legs only to hiss and stand back up, forgetting for a moment all of the copper and lead embedded in them.

Now what?

You let out a sigh and stand, ignoring the pain in the center of your chest. You could make excuses, you could try to sweet talk her, but you get the feeling that being honest is the best way to go. “I simply reacted faster this time. Normally, I’m working with people who also have guns,” you raise your Redhawk and give the massive hunk of metal a few skillful twirls around your finger and then grab the grip with your newfound speed, stopping it dead. “We all worked to stay out of each other’s line of fire. It was my fault for not warning you,” you say, returning your gun to its holster and looking at the ground. “The ambush at the blacksmith’s place was still fresh, I just drew my gun and fired when those demons got the drop on us, forgetting about your position. I’m sorry.”

Ammy regards you silently, and without even looking, you know that her golden eyes are boring into you like drills. Finally, she huffs and crosses her arms under her bust, but she has the barest hint of a smile. “You look like a kicked puppy, do you know that?”

Amaterasu is impressed that you admitted your mistake and apologized! Your reputation with Amaterasu increased!
Issun is impressed that you admitted your mistake and apologized! Your reputation with Issun increased!

You look up, a sour frown in place. “I do not.”

“Speaking of hurt puppies,” Issun starts, bounding from your shoulder back to Ammy’s head, “You two are pretty messed up. Maybe we should head back down to the village, both to get you guys patched up and to check up on the villagers.”

Ammy nods agreeably. “If Elder Orange is okay, then the rest of the village should be as well, but it’s probably best if we check to be sure,” she says, bending over and pulling the bits of shrapnel from her legs, leaving behind a series of bleeding holes.

“Hey hey hey! Seriously, though shards, we need to take them out carefully or you might get lead poisoning or something like lockjaw.” You warn.

Ammy just looks up at you with a raised eyebrow. “If these were coated in some sort of especially nefarious toxin, then I might have been worried, but I don’t believe that I will be getting any old mortal disease or affliction anytime soon.”

Oh. Right. Goddess.

Issun snorts. “So, the village?”

Right, right. The village. “Sounds like a plan.”

Like last time, you and Ammy search the piles of ash that were once Imps. There isn’t anything particularly useful other than a small bit of yen. What coins you do find, you give them to Ammy for safekeeping.

As you begin the trek back to Kamiki, you look over to Ammy, or rather down to her still bleeding legs. Immediately, guilt washes over you like a tidal wave. Your foolishness got her hurt. The shallow wound in your sternum has slowly stopped bleeding, but the ragged cuts on Ammy’s legs still slowly ooze red. Maybe you can make it up to her?

“Hey, Ammy?” you ask, making her turn a curious gaze to you. “Want me to carry you on my back on the way to Kamiki? Best to not put strain on your legs until we're sure you're 100%, I insist, I really feel bad about what I did."

The sun goddess makes a wolfy chuff in the back of her throat. “I can walk fine, thank you… buuuut I won’t turn down a free ride if you’re willing to carry me,” She says, amusement sparkling in her eye.

You smile and hunch over slightly. “Hey, fair enough. Hop on.”

Even if she says that she can walk fine, it still makes you feel better to do her a favor like this.

Slender arms gently wrap around your neck and shoulders as she does a little hop onto your back. You catch her legs with your arms and raise yourself back up, carrying Ammy in a piggyback.

I’ve got a goddess strong enough to move the sun sitting on my back, you think to yourself. If somebody told me this was how today was going to go, I would have laughed right in their face.

As you walk down the path back to Kamiki, to become acutely aware of just how warm Ammy is. Her body is almost feverish in how hot it is, but still retains a porcelain tone. If she were anyone else, you would have been saying prayers for them because there’s no way someone should reach such temperatures and keep living for longer than a day.

You also become aware of how incredibly soft her skin is. It’s almost silky in feel. You have both the arms resting around your neck and the legs held in your arms as examples.

...There’s also something else, two somethings in fact, that are extremely soft across your back.

You gulp and try to keep your thoughts pure. With how approachable and easy going she is, you forgot for a little while that Ammy is a woman.

“Are you all right, Anon-san?” Ammy asks, resting her chin on your head. “I can you feel your heart speeding up. I can get down if need be.”

“Nah,” you say, shaking away the thoughts. ”Just...uh...hoping that we don’t get ambushed again.”

You can feel her giggle. “If we do, try not to pepper me with metal again.”

You groan. “You’re never going to let me live that down, are you?”

She just giggles again.

About halfway down the path, in a spot in direct view of the deck, you spot a grumbling and thoroughly drenched Mr. Orange standing next to a small pond. The elder is busy wringing the water out of his beard, but stops when he lays eyes on you and Ammy. He opened his mouth to say something, but stops, his eyes widening behind when he spots the blood covering your chest and on Ammy’s legs (which is slowly soaking into the sides of your shirt.) Instead of accosting you, he instead looks between the deck and you before nodding.

Mr. Orange figured out what happened. Your reputation with The Orange Family increased!
Your overall reputation with Kamiki increased!

(Sometimes impressing just one person or a small group of people is all that it takes to make an impact with their entire community or organization. A higher community reputation can give you sway even with strangers.)

As you pass Mr. Orange, you can’t help but wonder aloud. “Why does he have an orange on his head?”

You look up at Ammy, who in turn looks up at Issun. When the poncle realizes he’s being looked at, he finally answers. “Erm. I don’t think anyone has ever asked him that. I know I’ve never asked. I always figured it was some kind of old tradition since Mrs. Orange does it to. Maybe we could ask some time?”

Huh. Weird place, Nippon.

You continue further down the path, passing the midway point that branches off to the Konohana tree. The creepy statue that was once there is gone, and in its place is a man who looks exactly like the statue calmly playing his flute.

Continuing on, you finally make it to the entrance of the village, the same one you used when you first came down to investigate. This time, instead of being cold and dead, the village has a serene calm to it. The villagers leisurely go about their day as if they weren’t cursed half an hour prior.

To your right is the house with the giant orange on it, and next to that, a small farmhouse. Further up, is another home with a rice mill and small rice field next to it. Your left is a small home that looks as if it’s in disrepair. Next to it, is the small vegetable patch across from the farmhouse. A heavyset woman slowly tends to the field as a boy just off to the side keeps trying to encourage his brown dog to go dig up the field, but the woman has none of that. Next to the vegetable patch is the blacksmith shop. You can hear the rhythmic bang of hammer on steel coming from it. There are other, smaller homes scattered about. Further up, it gets harder to see since the other half of the village is on the other side of the river and buildings block your view.

Here you are, finally in Kamiki. Now what?

>Try to find the local healer on your own.

Considering that she is the closest person, you make your way towards the large woman, an inquiry on where you can find medical attention ready. You walk along the path and turn off slightly into the grass, walking up to the edge of the tilled dirt. By now, the boy has spotted you and looks at you, or rather your bloodied chest with wide eyes. The woman is still engrossed in her work, so you clear your throat and speak up. “Excuse me?”

“Hmm?” She moves her eyes away from the basket of turnips she was sorting through to glance at you and Ammy for a moment before looking away again. “Yes? Is there something…” then her brow furrows and she does a double take, taking in the sight of you and your goddess friend with a paling face. “Goodness me! What in the world happened?!”

>Give her a full explanation.

why would she do that when we're practically bleeding?
The natural reaction would be helping us get patched up first and then ask more when we're safe if she's curious
Like, I expect her to personally take us to the healer rather than tell us the directions.
It takes a special kind of person to disregard helping two people bleeding asking for medical assistance just to slake one's curiosity, don't you think?

“I already know what you’re thinking,” you start, ”there’s no need to worry, we dealt with the monsters that did this. Do you know where the local healer is so we can get patched up?”

“Monsters? Is that why there was such a great racket earlier?” The woman asks, color returning to her face. “I guess it doesn’t matter. My oh my, we’ll have to get Mrs. Orange. Healer Hina is out of the village to get supplies. Mushi-kun!” The woman turns to the boy, who jumps of being called. “Go find Mrs. Orange! Tell her we’ve got some hurt strangers, hurt by a monster attack. Hop to it!”

“Y-yes kaa-chan!” the boy, Mushi, exclaims. A moment later, he’s off like hell is on his heels with his dog following closely. They cross over the bridge leading to the other side of the village and out of sight.

The woman sets her basket of turnips down and jogs towards the home with the large orange on top of it as fast as her frame will allow, beckoning you to follow.

“You know, your kid is going to hit that rebellious stage hard when he grows up a bit more,” Issun says as you follow behind the woman.

She glances back, her eyes landing on Issun. “Oh? You’re still in the village, bug? Not harassing this poor girl, are you?” She asks, tone accusatory. ”And my Mushi-kun is a good boy, if energetic. He just needs a firm and the occasional thumpin’ to keep focused.”

Ammy reaches a hand up to her head shush Issun’s fury over being called a ‘bug’. “It seems like you’re already acquainted with Issun. My name is Ammy, and this is Anonymous,” she says with a smile. “Thank you for the concern.”

The woman waves away the thanks. “There is no need to thank me, Ammy-san, I’m not about to turn away a pair of bleeding people. And where are my manners today? My name is Kyacchi.”

By now, you, Ammy, and Kyacchi have made it to the front of the residence with the orange on top. You set Ammy down on her feet, but she seems almost reluctant to let go. A second later, she releases the grip around your shoulders and neck and stands on her own, but not before giving you a beaming smile.

Amaterasu greatly enjoyed the ride! Your reputation with Amaterasu increased!

Kyacchi crosses her arms and taps her foot. “What is taking that boy so long? I know old Mrs. Orange can really book it if she wants.”

“Well, I do believe my lovely wife is with Moegi-chan. Something about the poor girl being sick.”

You, Issun, and the pair of women turn to see a much drier Mr. Orange making his way down the path into Kamiki. “Without Hina-chan here, it’s fallen to her to care for the ill, even if our ways are a little old-fashioned,” he says with a chuckle, turning to approach the house.

You look between the orange on his head and the giant orange on the house, suddenly realizing the connection.

Mr. Orange approaches you and Ammy, taking in your wounds with a critical eye. “Hmm. For a pair of youngins who took on demons, you both made it out in rather good condition, I’d say. I’ve seen soldiers get tore up more by demons.”

Kyacchi looks between you and Ammy, her face one of disbelief. “When you said ‘monsters’ I thought you two just aggravated some kinda animal. I didn’t expect it to be actual demons! What were you two thinking!?”

“Now now, Kyacchi-chan,” Mr. Orange says, tapping his walking stick on the ground, “I don’t think that even the youngsters today are dumb enough to purposely pick fights with dark forces. No, I was up at the deck talking to these two when disaster struck. They were kind enough to save me… by throwing me into a pond…” he grumbles, but continues on. “And then defeated the demons. I shudder to think what would’ve happened if they got into the village.”

The large woman looks at you and Ammy in a new light, her disbelief fading for amazement.

Your deeds and Mr. Orange’s praise impressed Kyacchi! Your reputation with Kyacchi’s Family increased!
Your overall reputation with Kamiki increased!

Ammy’s ears twitch and she suddenly perks yp. “Ah, here they come.”

And sure enough, an old woman races over the bridge in the middle of Kamiki like an Olympic sprinter, a red-faced Mushi following.

Our passive ability negates the effects the cursed status, it doesn't mean it wasn't still there.
Like wearing flame retardant gloves, if you hold your hands over fires you won't get them burned, but the fire and heat are still there, now apply this concept to curses and Anon's entire body is the glove.

Eh, I doubt we'll find anything all that better anytime soon, not in shops at least. Besides we'll earn yen back from fights alone well enough, not to mention any possible sidequest rewards.

>And this nigga thinks putting all his eggs in one basket will solve all situations until he realizes that evil is bigger than his gun.

Listen, having a sword would expand what we can do, it's been discussed already.
What if we don't have time to reload? or run out of bullets mid fight so Ammy can't magic us them back? What if she just can't get out of the way and is in a bind? What if we're in a cave and the loud rapport of the Redhawk risks making everyone deaf every time we fire it?
What if we need to go stealth?
What if we need a proper cutting tool outside of combat?
Just our gun won't cut it.

Seriously guys, we should get a sword because it's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.
We could probably get one really cheap or even for free if we use our reputation with the village to bargain with the Blacksmith too, and later if we need an upgrade we can bargain with it, not like Ammy can't make it pristine brand new again so there's another discount there we can use.
Plus, this is Nippon, how will folks know we're legit and not some filthy peasant if we don't have a proper sword strapped to our waist? It might also help us socially too.
Also, Amaterasu can probably enchant a sword to be extra effective against evil with the power of light, she did it to Nagi's sword in their battle against Orochi, it's something to look into.

I think it was only ever used that one time in a cutscene. Ammy had to beckon the moon with a Brush Technique for that to happen.
But who knows how off-the-rails N9 takes the story. The fact that Kamiki village has a blacksmith we can interact with is already quite the deviation from the game.
>>
>>2582379
We should probably ask Ammy or Issun about Ki and whether it is possible to craft newly enchanted weapons with magic rituals and the like. And hopefully we'll find a priest willing to teach us the basics so we can get more tools in our toolbox to work with.

>Hopefully we'll find a priest
There happens to be a travelling monk in the village (We've already passed him couple of times!)
...Talking to him may or may not lead to a scuffle with some Imps, however.
Altough I think we should hold off on asking about magic until after we've unlocked it - as far as Quest!Anonymous knows, he's just an ordinary dude with a revolver far from home.

Of courshe of course. We have other things that we should take care of first like buying equipment and food. What are your thoughts on the Muramasa: The Demon Blade OST?

>Muramasa: The Demon Blade
>Never heard about or played that game
>Do a quick search on Youtube - get a playlist with 80 tracks
>Well then
I'm afraid I'll have to defer to your expertise on the matter.
Altough this sounds like pretty fitting music, judging from what little I've listened up to now.

There's a soundtrack in the Muramasa DLC that sounds like someone took the Waka fight theme in Okami and roided it up and added in dueling shamisens. I can easily say that it is something you'll either like or get annoyed by.

Any chance you could find the name of that particular soundtrack? Searching for it blindly might... take some time, to put nit lightly.

I was referring to the prologue tale at the start of the game, how Shiranui (aka Ammy) and Nagi sealed away the baddy after he chose Nagi's waifu for sacrifice.
She used the light of the moon to enchant his sword then too

Alright so it's extremely early on. Now the real question lies with if she can still do it even with the memory loss.
>>
>>2582570
Mentioning if she can do something with a sword might jumble her memory, or at least probe her into testing, at least she won't be doing it on us so there's no real danger to our well being like before.
It's not even metagaming or anything, we've already experimented with her magic on our bullet casings, it wouldn't be strange if we asked for her to try something on something else.
>>
>>2582587
Sounds like a decent question to ask Ammy when we both get patched up.
>>
>>2582622
feels more natural to ask her something like that after we get a sword tho

Aayy thanks Anon! I can deifinitely see what you meant - the track does so many things at once that you need to focus on it a bit. Kind of chaotic at some points.

NP, it helps to imagine a high action scene taking place where everyone is going beyond full wuxia with the leaping from different levels of buildings and so on, to keep to the actual pace of the song. It's quite deceptively simple in how it unwinds overtime.

Don't worry QM, the Wallrobot and the Man-Spider are duking it out really far down the road.

It's fine, just make a new thread if you weren't planning to already, this one's autosaging.

Damn.
Cursed once again by living in Britain.

Fair.
I was mostly just thinking about it in terms of potential new players that would see it on the first page, not whether it was still good for a session or not, we all know how slow the board is.
>>

That... Is actually a good point. I guess we should gather our regulars while we're still early game. Guess I'll make a new one. Hol up.
