Its only a day or so until the next match so fighting is right out. From your comfortable if spartan chambers you contemplate what to do to pass the time until the match begins.

You were in your sleepwear, a thin shirt and boxers, while eating a large breakfast of sausage, eggs, and citrus fruits. Neil's wife sent the fruit which was very kind of her on account of the death match.

You had informed Neil of some of your outstanding grudges and he had understood to some extent. Not that he ever would truely understand, nor would you want him to. You had built up a special hatred that only exists because you were betrayed and left to rot in the most insulting way imaginable. Neil didn't deserve to experience something o horrible, few people period deserved to experience that.

Fom your comfortable leather seat, you tore into your breakfast before checking an Intinerary.

What do you do? (you have time for 2 options)

>Go to polaris (Specify where and what)

>Hang out with friends/contacts (If chosen I'll specify who)

>Go to artisans (Buy/commission gear)

Polaris options (non green text options are thing you can't do at the moment)

>The uppermost section. It's where all the visiting nobles spend most of their time. Real swanky place
>---Go socialize with nobles. While it pains you to do so, making contacts is important, and the last time went well (about as much as it could).
---look for a quick duel
>---try to sell some of your excess titan equipment for some cash

>The upper-middle section. Most of the stations operations including the tourney commision are there. Not much for fun, but there are lots of fans and officials here.
>---Tourney office. See if they are planning any extra events or look at registration records to check out the competition.
>---Go to one of the lounges where fans meet up to get something to eat and try to get a feel for the local fighting scene.
---look at the betting pools and see if you can't make some money.

>Lower-middle section. Shopping, regular restaurants and entertainment are all found here. if you want to mingle with ordinary people and forget about work you'll find it in spades.
>---Go to one of the amusement parks. They have several types and there will be all sorts of people to meet.
>---Go to a recreation park to play some friendly sport games or relax.
>---Go out and do some leisure shopping. You have more money then you would ever need for mundane items anyways.

>The lowest section. Filled with engineers, gearheads and sailors. Not much for high culture, but there's still plenty to do.
>---Go to the arenas to race, or fight or just watch.
>---Go look for some quality drink. There's another drinking contest coming up.
>---Look at the workshops for some pointers and new ideas.

Hoe much xxx% percent wise would the Regenerating armor core be able to repair in the span of two days on the two thoroughly battered titans?

To be honest I didn't really give a set amount but no the repair core won't be able to finish the job in two days or make significant progress, but they should both be repaired by the final match of round 1.

It would be smart, you got his sats but he will have bulked up since then, it would be a smart move to see how you stack up.

Stepping out into the array of lecture halls and labs in the lowest section you see the metal chambers are still alive with holographic presentations and the glowing churning might of assembly machines rings through the great chamber you're in.

Searching from room to room for a lecture or demonstration to observe. Each room reveals leaps and bounds of scientific research and engineering. From presentations on the unique qualities of new particles, to new and improved synthetic metals and elements all being assembled in particle accelerators that him and glow with energy and atomic furnaces and assembly machines that work tirelessly machineing bolts, and plates for durability testing.

What lecture do you go to?

You plop down into one of the seats inside of a material testing lab. The machinery is already at work and the engineering staff is already starting on the application and creation of new experimental alloys.

You doggedly follow every utterance and copy the atomic and molecular models with as much fidelity as possible. Several hours later with a sample of a new ultra high tensile strength titanium you return to your fortress and pour over your notes.

>Looking at Grimmly's gainz

After exiting your fugue state and coming down from your scholastic ecstasy at simultaneously making breakthroughs with both defense projects in less than a day you decide to look up how Grimmly has fared since last time you looked up his stats.

Entering into the tall, glistening tournament building, you can already see posters of Algol and Ursa Major staring each other down. The posters read.

>Algol vs. Ursa major: The battle of the beasts

Uou look around and you can see there are some children in the lobby with Algol actions figures fighting a toy version of the turtle kaiju and several children fighting over who should win between your titan and Grimmly's.

Ignoring the merchandising that's probably illegal you take the elevator to the information floor and log in to a computer.

>Looking up house Naut

After you wrap up your assesment on Grimmly You take look at the profile of the junk man. For a time the memory of such a pathetic machine being entered into the tournament itched somewhere in your mind. House naut must be in some dire straits to be so desperate.

>House Naut
A noble family owning a single planet in the Carcharodontos system. The house of Naut has been trod underfoot by rival families for years, and has attempted time and again to defend themselves and their planet from invaders. Despite their efforts they are frequently raided and humiliated by their neighbors, with no end in sight.

They have entered their titan which they found derelict in a debris field in order to boost the families fortunes to help reconstuct the planet's industries and defenses after decades of abuse.

On the following morning you awake and start your day. The preparations on Algol are complete and with only a single day before the match you peruse ads for activities on the station.

Page after page of contests, challenges and various forms of merriment are all touted in their own sea of brightly colored brochures.

What catches your eye are the brochures for several amusement parks. Inwardly you scoff at a man your age going to some childrens playpen but upon further examination there is more to these parks then children's attractions.

Where do you go?

>Middenland (A park based around ancient earth culture, and the fantasy sub-culture. Here are plays and reinactments from the time period as well as various activities and attractions that either explore real history or popular fiction.

>Stranglehold (A park that touts action oriented attractions. Blostering fast rides, movie theatres that play the best actions vids ever made, and plenty of sports and combat themed activities)

You decide that a little cyber noir and grit would be entertaining.

Between the drone shooting courses, racing pods for chases, and a large area to goof around with the cyberpunks this seems like someplace you could have some fun in.

The facilities and resteraunts are also highly rated so at least there will be good food.

Why not. I guess it's time we try to break from that noble hating mold. If the rich guy decides to laze it up down here with us peons, then maybe he won't be such a bad guy.

I got an idea on how we can profit from House Naut's doormatt-itus, and they us. People are constantly curb stomping their planet right? Well, what if they issue a formal challenge, to the death to several houses? We loan their house a titan, offer to tag team spitroast some of their enemies.

We get a few titans and equipment out of it while their enemies suffer. Win Win?
>>
Deep within your chambers you sit at your work desk. Silent, unmoving, unflinching.

Internally, you roil like the sea before the arrival of a hurricane.

Of all the people you could ask to join you, the first you considered was of course Neil. He's your best friend at this point even if your relationship was rather shallow, and his friends were good company.

But two other names lingered in your memory. The Harper's. They had been polite, pleasant even when you met them. Isaiah even let you hold his firstborn.

Now you had always known on the surface level of your mind that not all of the nobles were like house Arnheimer, some were at their core fairly normal people who came from money. It wasn't even that they individually wealthy, the wealth of their family was held up in their realm not in vaults. Some even were truely noble in their own way.

But that fact doesn't change how you feel. Not internally, not in reality.

You had spent 10 years constantly being pushed and prodded like meat and rammed into the grinder time and again, purely for the absurd and all too often pointless goals of the nobility.

The things you had seen, and the things you had done just to have the option of walking away when the war was over. You would never forgive Arnheimer for what they did, and all their allies who merely followed along.

But hate is a sword with no hilt. You may wield it to hurt your enemy, but chances are you will harm yourself in the process.

There are some things you must face head on.

"Hello? Rachel, this is Rickert." You can hear a voice mumble before a muffled ruffling leads into a recognizable voice.

"Hmmm. Oh hey. So uh what's happening? It's kinda early."

Your hand shakes as you attempt to steel yourself to continue.

"I was calling to ask you a question. I had an idea of visiting the Blitz complex and I wanted to see if you and your brother would be interested in joining me."

Rachel's voice becomes noticably clearer and more energetic.

"Wait really! I mean. Yeah! That sounds great! I mean, I'll ask my borther, but I would love to go!"

Nefore you can respond you hear a muffled bang before footsteps and distorted yelling. A few minutes later and you get an answer.

"We'd love to go! Send the time and place and we'll meet you!"

The connection drops and you breathe deeply. This should not be a problem. She seemed like a nice girl and her brother seemed like a decent man. This should be your first step in moving past this difficulty. You need to see them as people, doing normal everyday activities, eating, and enjoying a day out. You need to see their humanity.

You wipe you forehead and feel sweat.

Lord help you.

Now for something I started considering when someone wanted to invite Rachel.

Do you want to switch POV?

>No. Stay with Rickert.
>Yes. Switch to Rachel.

This doesn't set anything in stone or have any long term effects, this just gives you an outside perspective on Rickert and develop his relationships a little.

>You are Rachel Harper Young Titan pilot.

You had went to bed last night thinking you would sleep in on your big four poster bed and do some light checks on Siegebreaker before the match.

Face smashed into your pillow drool accumulating from a nice deep sleep and.....

One of the most terrifying men you'd ever met asked you and your brother to join him in an amusement park.

Definitely one of the strangest mornings you've had giant robot fighting be damned.

"Why do you think he asked us?" Your brother barely looks up from his daughter, gently lulling the baby back to sleep. You had unfortunately awoken the tyke when you barged into your brothers room. Clara nearly clubbed you for that.

"I don't know, you did all that research on him after he tore that noble apart in a deathmatch, so you tell me."

What is your impression of Rickert?

>He's a badass A legendary soldier and military leader and now he's a hard as nails titan pilot. Guys got accolades in badass that put action heroes in the vids to shame.

>He's terrifying. He's got a long history of being ruthless and after the Nemean gulf war he's got a chip in his shoulder a mile long and a history of hating nobles especially Arnheimer. He's extremely aggressive in most of his fights and has shown a nasty temper in public.

>He's kinda sad. Drafted to be cannon fodder, being shafted left and right before being left to the wolves. He's got a long career of taking up lost causes and a penchant for saving people that's especially stange for someone who comes off as being so cruel. To be honest you feel like giving him a hug.

"He's scary. Really scary. The kind of guy who gets put in a history book with all the famous warlords and conquerors. I mean even when I first met him he seemed really uncomfortable. At first I thought he was just shy, but I get the feeling he hated my guts just talking to me."

Your brother continues lullling his daughter into sleep, the baby slowly closing it's eyes and quieting its fussing.

"So why did you say yes? I mean if he's such a scary guy why would you want to spend the day with him? Also I don't appreciate you draggine me into this."

Isaiah looks up to glare at you. His eyes tired from being woken up so early. He should just get one of the maids to do it, but he's adamant on taking a hands on approach with parenting.

"I mean he's scary but. I don't know, have you ever thought what would it be like to meet someone that accomplished? Someone with a real chance to go somewhere with the tournament? If nothing else I doubt he has ill intent. I mean as aggressive as he is he has a tendency to help people. Maybe he's trying to make friends?"

Isaiah lowers his daughter back into her crib before grabbing you by your face gently.

"He's not the type of guy to go and make friends especially with us. There's got to be some else to this. So I'm going to make sure you're okay. Plus he may want a favor and someone like him could pull some heavy strings right?"

You nod. You're brother was more experienced with this kind of thing. You'll follow his lead for now.

>You arrive at the entrance of the park.

Rickert is already waiting when you show up at the gate.

When he sees you, he smiles. Its a shallow smile it doesn't reach his eyes. You have some experience with this expression, but with him there's an undertone that's heavier, more angry and intense then deceitful.

"Nice to see you got here okay. I already bought tickets. Just follow me."

He's not dressed up at all as you follow behind him. Just a short sleeved red button up with some jeans and comfortable running shoes. he looks like somebody's dad. The fact that he's around a bunch of cyberpunk geeks makes it look even more bizzare.

The gate cashier has the same opinion.

"Like dude, you really want to come in here? I mean you can wait outside while your kids come in."

Rickert looms over the pale employee before glaring like he stepped in some dogshit. A scowl that made his blunt face and harsh eyes flare.

"I don't damn well feel like dressing up in leather and latex like some knobjob. If you got a problem with that than you can complain about the net, but let me through."

His ticket gets scanned and he's ushered through faster than you think is allowable.

"Thank for your patronage please enjoy your stay!" The young employee blurts out his company spiel like a machine gun before servicing both you and your brother.

When you reach rickert he gives you a holomap.

>chase scene and fast times

"Let's go to the Burns Identity ride. They have a simulator for car chases."

Rickert nods in approval, or at least you think he approves.

"lead the way." He falls in beside both you and Isaiah, back straight with his hands in his pockets, scanning around. His gaze is razor focusing on any suspicious figures and on the buildings all around that provide a avenue for clear shots.

You don't know if it's a habit of his or if he's just pranoid but you don't say anything.

Your brother brother remains relaxed outwardly, but he's already on edge. His neck veins are bulging and the hair on his face is stiff.

>You arrive and get a turn in one of the pods

"Next please. Do you have any more in your party?" The technician glances around you to look for anyone esle.

You shake your head. "No just us three."

You open the car shped pod and waves his finger in the general direction of your group.

"Who's gonna drive, and who's gonna shoot?"

You look to your brother and Rickert but both remain refrain from volunteering for driving.

"Your choice." Rickert offers a nonchalant thumbs up with his comment.

"Uh. Okay."

What do you do?

>drive the car

"I'll drive. You two take the guns. You ever see the Burns trilogy Rickert?"

Climbing into the car the big man gets in the back seat and takes two guns hanging off the doors on bith sides of the car.

"Yes. Got repetitive but I liked it, plenty of good gunplay and tension, got a little out there sometimes but once they introduced the nano machine injections it made more sense."

Isaiah climbs in next to you and takes the gun from his door.

"So what are supposed to do?" Your brother asks.

"The driver focuses on out running the police and gunners try to keep the cops off by shooting. You got 30 minutes to escape the city. You can put your arms out the window but not your body. Have fun."

You feel the car move and lift upward. Gears and machinery whirs and hisses. Then you see projectors turn on and the fairly mundane room is replaced with a city scape at sundown. Impossibly high skyscrappers and mega buildings, and the general dirty landscape of a polluted industrial electronic settlement. Neons light and obnoxious holographic displays everywhere.

"3,2,1,GO!"

You floor the car and all round you sirens and synth music blares.

Darting through the air, the repuslor jets hiss, as you shift into a higher gear.

"Okay you-" Before you can tell the others to start working on the police, Rickert opens up with a storm of gunfire, and I mean a storm. His trigger finger doesn't stop the moment he starts shooting.

Cop cars go up in flames as the hail of bullets blows their engines and as the cops inside get perforated and drop like flys in their vehicles.

Isaiah takes a few experimental shots before, shrugging and putting his hand outside of the car.

"That's some nice wind out there, real crisp. Glad they didn't dimulte the smell."

You punch your brother.

"Shoot you jerk! They're right behind us!"

Isaiah laughs. "No there not!"

And he's right. using your mirrors you see Rickert is dropping any car that comes remotely close.

Okay looks like that is the bag at least for now time for some fanct moves!

What stunt do you pull?

"Going for a big jump, brace!" Before Isaiah can complain you slam the accelerator and push the big red button on the console.

The hellish roar of the engine and the screaming of the repulsor jets drowns out even Rickerts shooting as you turn to ride the pipe.

Rocketing up the metal tube you reach the apex. Sailing through the air you catch the bright orange of the setting sun.

Damn you should have made a one-liner.

Dropping from on high, you sharply turn the car and flare the repulsor jets to their breaking points. Your landing is not comfortable but it works. You work into a power slide that brings down a straight away to the city limits.

"Ah yeah! Time to turbo, TO THE MOON!"

"Lame!" Your brother drones.

"HAHAHAHA" You hear Rickert laugh hard enough to shake the car when slaps the inside of the door.

"Hey! Don't hurt the pod!" The technician peers into the sim to thumbs down.

You are distracted enough that you veer off course slightly.

>you fail so hard you win!

Then you hit a car in oncoming traffic. Then you begin to spin out. With no other choice since you are probably going to crash, you just floor the engine and turn onto the spin.

Rapidly turning, your brother braces himself while Rickert just throws both arms out the window and starts shooting while laughing like a maniac.

This chaotic spin doesn't stop through.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uhy_e5wIX44

You laugh and continue to spin. You don't care anymore. This is fun just spinning like this.

You continue moving and you don't crash. Eventually you abruptly stop and the simulation ends. A big crimson YOU WIN appears overhead of the pod.

"Wow. Lucked out. The road was clear after that side swipe ended up taking out all of the traffic. You kept careening into more and more cars but didn't lose momentum and they kept piling into each other."

You uneasily step out of the pod, sweating and panting from the tension. Isaiah steps out before poking your forehead.

"I drive next time. You suck." Your face flushes, but before you can jab your brother Rickert laughs again.

Its a deep chortle, and he grabs his chest. he has a smile now. A real smile, that shows his teeth.

When he locks eyes with you he stops. But there is an intensity there when he looks at you. Not anger, but maybe surprise? He straightens up before recomposing himself.

"Where do we go next?"

You stammer before opening the map again.

Where do you go?

"Going to a club? I know you're hard up for male company, but that's the wrong approach to take."

The flush at Rickert's jab. He remains stonefaced, but you sense that he's teasing you rather than being insulting.

"I know. I try to set her up with some nice young men but she never likes my recommendations." Your brother chuckles increase as your face grows brighter.

"Cut me some slack. I just want to see what it's like. All the pilot clubs are too high brow for me. Everyone's so high up their horses I always feel like their sizing me up for a dowry. It gets really old sometimes."

You feel Rickert's piercing eyes on you immediately. Looking at him you can't tell what he's thinking, his face is inanimate but you get the feeling he's... doubting? Unsure? But soon enough he averts his gaze.

Ugh. Does his intensity ever go down? He needs to relax. Hatred for nobles or not he seems to take everything you say and analyze it.

>You reach a club called the system shock

There's no line but there's a staffer with a card reader to make sure you're legal.

Once inside you take a nice deep breath and look around. The inside of the building looks like a gritty space station with fake cyborgs serving drinks and food.

Steel riveted floors, cracked consoles, and dim lightling give off an abandoned vibe.

The mass of people drinking, and dancing kinda ruins the atmosphere though.

Rickert and Isaiah both take seats and order drinks, with Rickert downing his beverages immediately. Considering how huge he is, he probably won't get drunk even if he tries.

You move out to the dance floor and try to look for group to squeeze inside. There are plenty of womenand men here although there's a group of sweaty shiny guys in a corner dressed in large leather trenchcoats and sunglasses.

Deciding to socialize, you go try to infiltrate the masses of people and have a good time.

Who do you try and dance/party with?

>A large group of women in punk outfits
>A group of men in cyberpunk cosplay
>A mixed group of men and women in street clothes like you.

>A mixed group

You pry yourself into a mass of fairly ordinary people near the edge of the dance floor, some move away in pairs to dance and others just clump together and make small talk.

You would have went for the all male or female groups but based on how they're dressed you imagine they may be mostly interested in talking about the park and cyberpunk stuff.

You settle on a group of people talking about their first impressions on the park. They must be new to the station like you are.

"Any of you go on the car chase sim yet?"

You raise your hand and gain their attention.

"Yeah I did."

"Was it any good?" You thumbs up.

"Jumped over some buildings and span out causing a huge traffic pileup that ended up with me spinning all the way to the finish."

The assembled group shres their approval and you they ask you a few other questions before moving to another subject.

"Any of you guys got money on the Algol, Ursa fight?"

A young man sighs before face palming.

"No but I should have, I saw that death match between that Volgunsen guy and that dude who impersonated him. He fucking got out of his titan just to kill the guy himself. Now that's fucking brutal."

A woman shakes her head.

"Yeah, but I heard he's a pretty nasty guy, and personally it would feel kinda nasty taking his side. At least Grimmly's got a reputation for being a professional."

The conversation remains on the tournament for a while but the subject returns to Rickerts upcoming confrontation several times. You admit that he's rough but he's getting the heel treatment on this one.

Do you say anything in Rickerts defense?

>bring Rickert into the equation

"You know Volgunsen had a good reason for hating that guy."

The other patrons look at you but wave you off.

"We know the guy was impersonating him, but that's just cruel I mean he could have at least done so with just a little more restraint I mean come on."

Once it becomes clear you won't get anywhere with this crowd you have an idea. You have snapshots of his past but the big man himself could probably explain his situation a little better.

"Wait a second I want to you to meet someone."

You grin. Even if they don't change their minds their reaction will be priceless.

>You bring Rickert over after explaining the situaton

"Ladies and gentlemen I present Rickert Volgunsen."

You present the massive man with a flourish.

Those assembled pale a little and one of them starts looking around for an exit.

"Calm down. For pete's sake I'm not gonna do anything. I just wanna explain why I tore up the Arnheimer bastard."

Rickert gulps down the beer in his hand and begins his tale.

"Okay so there I was waist deep in ash from a poorly targeted orbital lance and some smarmy asshole on the comms has the nerve to-."

His tale of how much he hated Sigurd Arnheimer goes on for about 30 minutes. Between commenting on the former general's complete incompetence, inability to effectively relay orders, and being an all around turd Rickert sums up his last encounter with Sigurd in plain terms.

"Stupid son of a bitch had it coming. So you can post that on the net."

He downs another beer, still completely sober despite drinking about a dozen during his rant.

Everyone present is agape or a little sick looking. You don't blame them, some of the details about all the uneccessary civilian incinerations that happened as a result of a lazy call were grotesque.

Rickert walks away but he pats you on the shoulder gently before he leaves.

from beind you can hear him whisper.

"Thank you."

Your interactions with the club goers continue and you even dance a little with some men, but soon enough you get bored and decide to leave.

Your brother and Rickert follow, both decidedly tired looking.

Looking at your holobracer its clock tells you its going to be evening soon.

"You two have preperations to make for the match?" Rickert takes out his bracer to exaimne the time.

You nod, and Isaiah shakes his head.

"Need to get back to watch my kid, Clara will be wanting to be relieved right about now."

Rickert thumbs up.

"Understood, I need to make some final fine tuning for Algol. Grimmly is probably going to be the toughest fight for me so far."

Walking toward the gate Rickert taps your shoulder.

"Can I have a minute with you?"

You freeze. looking up at the giant you notice his gaze is considerably softer. He normally frowns but he seems to carry a more somber expression on his face.

"Yeah go ahead. I got time."

Rickert extends his hand. You take it and you feel him firmly but gently shake it. Well more like he engulfed your hand but the sentiment was clear.

He releases you digits and shuffles in place uncomfortably.

"This whole experiance has been uncomfortable. I've been nursing my grudges against Arnheimer for a long time now, and to be honest I haven't spoken to anyone for nearly a decade while I was building Algol. This tournament has been my first attempt to reintegrate since I retreated into obscurity."

Gazing into you, his eyes pin you down. You hunker down a little bit.

"It's been a long time but there's a lot of my past that I'm not prepared to put to rest. And you porbably can tell that I can't stand anyone whose a noble, doesn;t matter if they've done anything to me or not."

You sink in your shoes a little. You had already thought of that.

"I want to change. When I was fighting in the gulf my friends and comrades all had dreams, ambitions that they dearly held onto even as they died. I couldn't help them, and even with the war over, I couldn't save any of them. I lost everything I had and I don't need to tell you that it wasn't a lot to begin with. But I held on to what they taught me, and what it meant to have a dream. A future. They would have never let me live it down to be some recluse wallowing in my anger. So I want to be better."

Rickert's eyes remain dry, but there's a crease in his forehead, and his frown deepens.

"I want to thank you for coming here with your brother today. Considering my reputation and history you went out of your way just showing up. I want to say that I'm sorry as well. When I first met you I was disgusted by just talking to you. I felt like I could barely speak without fighting the urge to hit someone. I asked you to come here with me because I want to move past this. I want to overcome this prejudice. Also thank you for sticking up for me you didn't need to do that."

You start to tear up a little. This is way too personal.

"I mean. It's okay...just give me a little more time if you want to hang out again or with my brother. Okay."

Rickert smiles, very very slightly but it's there.

"Glady."

>You return home and Rickert leaves as well.

I'm looking at Grimmly's Loudout. Dude is a tough looking motherfucker. He's got a Bo3+3 odds to attack and a Bo3+5 odds to defend. I think our best best is guerrilla warfare tactics. We gotta attack the guy first and fly as fast as we can out of his effective range so we can recover. If our shock cannons manager to stun him then we gotta Alpha Strike him. The guy has no equipped jetpack so we'll always be out of melee range and will always outpace him.
>>
>>2560934
I got you player. I've been saving this since last thread.
Now concerning what we should fill I'm out arms and holster, I'm thinking the Durendal, Fusion Lance and the Ice Blaster would be good candidates (disregard the 2x Double barrel laser cannon's. I realize their damage output isn't anything fantastic). The Durendal could be great for cleaving pieces off of his Titan. The Fusion Lance has great firepower and can bypass his armor (can it bypass equipment and trait mods that exceed the standard 100 HP?). The Ice Blaster's status effect would be great for reducing his capacity to defend himself.
>>
>>2560918
I have a question. This is supposed to be a one on one dual between Grimmly and us, correct? Would it be cheating if we threw another titan at him?

charge attack, he had one turn to charge em up. Gives you a +1d? for damage if you abstain from attacking for one turn.

The return fire is brutal, those massive guns tear into Algol and without the extra armor you normally wear, the hit much more severe. Sparks and internal fluids spray as you try to maintain altitude. The spray of bullets from the rotating guns on his torso crater your armor.

Couldn't it be kharn? I mean Abbadon has a pretty shitty trackrecord of following through.

Also nice this is funny
>>
>>2562752
What? We don't have the Fusion Lance. We have the Ice Blaster and Durendal. The Ice Blaster is currently equipped.

Are you sure getting into Melee range is a good idea? We're at less than half out health. If we miss in melee he get a a free attack. his hands do armor piercing. He'll soon have a +3 to attack again. There's also the Bo3. Or he could Alpha Strike.
>>
>>2562752
again what does that mean? You want to shoot from obit or stab him with a gun? Because I still think attacking without a little recovery time is bad. the dude can shred us if all his attacks hit.

>>2562791
I guess he could have been Kharn? I choose Abbadon because I though Algol was more black than red. Plus there's the claw hand and the sword.
>>
>>2562802
I was just referencing Abbadon's infamous reputation among the 40k fandom as having a tendency of failing at completing his objectives and a fan interpretation that he is an imbecile.
>>
>>2562792
>>2562802
My bad, meant Durendal. I got confused. I think we need to end this fast as possible, and while both of us are built for melee, let's see if we can't one up him.
>>
>>2562904
I'll be honest. I can only see this ending poorly as we've less than half health. The Durendal has two attacks it can make in a turn, 2d10+3 melee base damage, re-roll damage, armor piercing, +1d10 from a trait, +4 dmg from another trait, +5 from the jetpack.
That's two attacks at 3d10+12 re-roll AP. At it's very most it can do 84 damage ignoring armor resistance. And even at max damage he would still have enough hp (138) to wip us, assuming the sword attack hits.

The guy has Bo3 +5 to his Defense.
The math doesn't lie and I don't want to lose. How do you imagine attacking him with the Durendal will play out?
>>
I mean with the Durendal you get AP Bo3 +2 which isn't bad, maybe the fact it's armor piercing will give us the benefit to, I don't know, nail him to the ground, cut off a limb, cut off a weapon.

The one good cqc shot "i think" we have against the guy is somehow incorporating the Pugilist and Monstrous Strength traits to literally punch the head off his titan off. That's possibly a Bo4+4 vs his Bo3+5. But even then I'm not too sure it would work. Not with his massive HP pool.
>>
>>2562931
If we impale Durendal into his leg/arm/torso then we can render him unable to turn or something along those lines, and slowly beat him down. If we run I just see us getting gunned down, and I doubt we can beat him at range
>>
>>2562961
The Sleipnir Engines is an above average beta class jetpack meant for titans larger than Algol. I'm confident it can bring Algol out of range in less than a second. Sure if we impale the sword into his foot that might keep him from moving, but there's nothing stopping him from pulling it out. And to pin his torso would require him to be laying on the ground....which might require the assistance of another titan if you catch my drift.

It would be a serious gamble. Bo3 +4/6 (depending if the Super Soldier trait stacks with Monstrous Strength) vs his Bo3 +3. we would only have a hairs edge against the guy. We stand to lose more in a turn then he does.
>>
>>2562961
>unable to turn
Would be a real shame if his titan could turn 360 degrees from the waist...hold that thought.

>>2562817
Can Grimmly's titan do that?
>>
>>2563015
Yeah, not sure if these are Mechwarrior mechs, WH40k titans, Gundams, unsure if you can just lock them in one direction then lay into their back
>>
>>2563017
Yeah. I have a good feeling that one human like titan can't really do that.
I feel like the next action we take will determine if we lose or succeed. Can you Imagine Grimmly's mech with the Sleipnir Engines? He'd be unstoppable.
>>
Alright I'm back. And since you had some good discussion while I was gone I'll give you a rundown of your options.

>Standing and fighting at range is not a great option.
Grimmly is a better shot if only by a margin but he is far more likely to dodge your attacks then you are to dodge his. Combine the difference in your durability, trading alpha strikes will almost certainly result in your loss, save a miracle in dice rolling.

>Melee is better but still really risky.
Your attack with durendal are 3d10+12 and with a charge attack its 4d10+12, and it pierces armor (as in it ignores damages resistance). But Grimmly's defenses is still solid, and your ability to harm him comes with the risk of being of being counter attacked with his fist weapon and off hand. But the counter strike trait only gives him a reaction attack, not an auto hit. You can still roll to dodge him but once again with that fist and that off hand a single non-crit could nearly one shot you. He also gets his own turn to strike twice so the lethality remains.

>running is smart
You can back off and recoup thanks to the regen gear. Grimmly won't expect you to come back healed, and my advice is to fight this out like a out-boxer in a boxing match. Your opponent is much tougher than you but you are faster and can recoup from damage provided you don't get knocked out. You have the luxury of kiting him.

Right now you are already at a distance and you're mush faster, so you can safely disengage and then rest and start again.

>Additional tid bit of adive
Play to your strengths, which is strength. If you strike you get a +4(I'll throw in the +2 as well since it is offense rather than a raw strength contest) and Bo4. If you kite and remain mobile you can wear him down. But all the same this will be dangerous.
>>
>>2564006
Forgot about the regen organ, let's definitely disengage and use that. Also, how much mobility to Titan's torso's have?
>>
Rolled 2 (1d2)

>>2564045

2=180 traversal
>>
>>2564054
Can we still drop a Titan on him?
>>
>>2564063
Personally I would use one as a shield and a weapon, but yeah you can still do that.
>>
>>2564068
Yeah. I was thinking a little of both. We use a Titan as a living shield to either get a protection opportunity alpha strike him or get it close to knock him over with it.
>>
>>2564006
I would say we run away and hind but still able to see him
Mybe just take pot shots and keep raning lets that way he wont know where we are and when we are going to fight him.
Sooner or latter his going to get pissed and do something to draw us out
>>
So re-vote for options now with this new information that's been made available.
>>
>>2564083
You mean staffing runs where we attack, leave the area to recover, and repeat?
I think if we did that Grimmly would be more inclined to charge his weapons on anticipation on our next return and try to fill us with all many holes as possible. The next time we come back to attack him it's gotta be something big. Alpha Strikes just aren't cutting it anymore. We take more than we can dish out.
>>
>>2564106
Something like that.
Do it like 2 more times then we wait make a trap and when he thinks we going to pull the same shit we end up fly kicking his bitch ass face in.
Hell we could drop our other robot to make a distraction and then butt fuck him
>>
>>2564083
Ok that might have worked if we equipped the sensor disrupterarray. But we didn't so not sure how well that could work. I'm also not sure if Grimmly's Titans range is greater or lesser an our own.
Plus, pecking at him would be kind of boring.
>>
>>2564095
>Disengage and regen
>>
>>2564125
Uh, ok? So you want to do a strafing run twice, but on the third time we so it with a giant robot meat shield or a dropkick to the head? Did I get that right?
Can we do the robot meat shield thing first?
>>
>>2564133
Losing would be even more boring.
I wasnt there for the loudout
I mean we only need to have him not paying attitudes for a short time.
I mean we could also shot the ground around him to make a dust storm and then hit him when he cant see us to well then ran away and shot all the guns.
Or thow a big ass rock at him and hit him after he ether doged or shot it out of the sky.
Im justing ideas
>>
>>2564095
I'm not sure how much time would elapse per titan turn, but will we have recovered our HP by the time we find another titan?
>>
>>2564144

>>
>>2564165

>>
>>2564153
In this match there is enough time for 4 loosely defined combat encounters, I would say if you focused on taking down Grimmly it would take 2 or 3 of these segments.

I would recommend trying to come up with a less direct approach. I'll add a
>other
option so you can apply the plans you are coming up with, I will also say that you could use the fact that Grimmly can't turn his torso all the way around to your advantage.

A less direct approach? Ok uh what if we, flew up into orbit with our titan and Co, throw in down on Grimmly's position, fly down before the other titan hits Grimmly, pin Grimmly's foot to the ground, then wait for the reentering titan to strike to pinned titan?

How was that for indirect?
>>
>>2564212
There's so many steps to this it would probably fail now that I think about it.
>>
This is a losing battle. At this range you can't exchange with Grimmly like this and win. He's too durable and too well guarded to be taken down with concentrated fire.

In the haze of the battlefield Ursa major is only marginally damaged, and the crackling shield remains stalwart.

Algol's system tell you that Algol's structure is compromised and that another big hit will down you.

You throttle Sleipnir and retreat. Grimmly's glowing eyes follow you but you know he isn't nearly fast enough to pursue, and you're already at the maximum range for a gunfight.

>you retreat sucessfully and regen your health.

>Play to your strengths, which is strength. If you strike you get a +4(I'll throw in the +2 as well since it is offense rather than a raw strength contest) and Bo4. If you kite and remain mobile you can wear him down. But all the same this will be dangerous.
>You have a better overall roll with striking and a successful strength punch will send him flying and unable to fight back, you just need to keep it up or he'll get back up and fight.

so it's either kiting or punching, both will still have Grimmly alpha striking. So it's a matter of flavor. Screw it, I'm supporting kiting. Let's get this over with.

"Back again I see. I knew that damn regen core would be a pain in my ass."

Grimmly opens up on the moment you're in range.

You throttle Sleipnir as hard as possible, to the point the jets are igniting externally. But you need this speed. The sound barrier breaks and you rear your fist back.

You wait for it.

It hapened everytime so far when dodging.

Grimmly favors his left leg and jumps to set up his right hand.

When he side steps you are already there and he gets blown back like a leaf in a hurricane.

>KRAKOOOOOOOOOW!

The impact shears all the dust and ash that sits on the earth beneath and leaves nothing but naked rock.

It was a d20 based homebrew, to accomodate a multiverse type of setting.

We got 6 stats, in which you pour 16 points : Strenght, Agility, Intelligence, Psychich, Charm, Diplomaty and aggressivity

Then you got your powers/competences with 10 more points. It can be a damage bonus, a spell like effect, a hit chance bonus or various skills.

It is based on opposed skills : If I want to hit someone with my strenght, I substract my target strenght to mine and use the result as a bonus/malus to the roll.

We had the same bonuses, but he had bonuses on bare hand damages and I couldn't directly hit his hit points, so I decided to look at another angle and asked if I could try to break the bones. I could, so I tried.

>Grimmly is down

Contemplating the nature of this fught you realize that this must have been the closest you've come to losing in the tournament.

Every obstacle so far has presented at most a moderate obstacle to your progress.

But this man. He would have won nearly half a dozen time by now if you hadn't been able to regenerate, or escape with sleipnir.

You turn in the air and kick against the ground. You arc in the air and this sudden change in approach is enough to catch your opponent off guard.

You slam you fist into the bear titan's head and it goes down, for the last time.

Looking at your fallen opponent you sigh. Your exhausted. What made this match was endurance, and in a straight fight Grimmly would have won. But you had speed, and the sense to wear youy enemy down.

"You're a tough son of a bitch Grimmly. You nearly had me more then once."

The bear like titan grumbles.

"Yeah. Yeah. Geez I gotta slap some boosters on this thing. I could barely see you half the time when you were coming at me."

But soon enough you recieve the signal from Grimmly. He yields.

"Well you got me. Can't say It wasn't earned. You may have been running to heal, but I haven't met anything that could stand to take the big fist at full charge without dying on the spot. Especially with so little armor. So eh makes me feel better about losing."

You doubt that.

"Really?"

"Fuck no this sucks."

You leave Grimmly be. At least he was a good sport about. The fact that Templeton whined and then cried when you beat her still repulses you.

>You have beaten Horst Grimmly
>You win 10+30 credits from your bet
>The tournament staff allocates 10pts for your victory (1/2 of grimmly's points points which is 20 now not 1. Normally its 1/4 but its later in the tournament)

>"This is the Thunderer and it's pilot is a guy named Ryuji Akashido. His Titan is built around just hammering you with long range fire all day long. Not much for close combat, but it's surprisingly agile. From what I've seen he's a bitch to fight if you rely on melee, fucker just won't stand still or let anyone get close."

>Ryuji Akashido pilot of the Thunderer (The four legged armless titan that specializes in fighting defensively and ranged combat)
>Ryuji Akashido (odds 1:1)

>Neil moves onto the fourth combatant, a rather undersized titan colored yellow and green with a eagle theme. A spear and oversized thrusters with missile packs are its visible weapons.

>"This is Aquilon and it's pilot is Robert Highhall. This guy is all speed. His thursters basically let him fly and run circles around you. Spray lots of missiles and stab you in the ass with that spear of his. I can tell that his titan won't take a lot of punishment, but he'll be on you before you can get a chance to take shots at him."

>Robert Highhall pilot of the Aquilon ( The smaller titan specializing in extreme mobility and rapid ranged and melee attacks)
>Robert Highhall (odds 1:1)

>He presses a button and two titans appear. One is a combo of grey and red and the other is bright gold. The grey/red titan seems to be loaded for bear with guns and has a nasty looking handheld energy cannon. The golden one looks weird and has an extremely accurate and detailed human face and body. Its weapons are more melee oriented. It has an absolutely ridiculously massive hammer and on its back is a sword and shield alongside torso mounted weapons.

>"These two are bitter rivals. The grey guy is Arthur Dorn in his titan Eternal Fortress and the gold guy is Ares Eustamachus in Priam. Both excel in their method of combat and they got some really kickass titans.

>Arthur Dorn pilot of the Eternal Fortress (a very tanky titan armed with lots of ranged guns) (rivals with Ares Eustamachus)
>Arthur Dorn (odds 1:2)

>Ares Eustamachus pilot of the Priam (The wierdly human looking titan that excels in melee combat) (rivals with Arthur Dorn)
>Ares Eustamachus (odds 1:2)

These are the remaining four all star titans we have yet to fight. On the Chance that any one of these four are still alive, would you guys want to go after them? I kind of want to see if we can get the jump on both Arthur and Ares. Not sure how well that would work out for us though.

Did we get to keep any of the bones of previously killed Kaiju? Their bones, hides, scales?
>>
>>2566586
I know we can, not sure if we have.
>>
>>2566644
I brought it up cuz I thought it would be metal to make a tabard for Algol's made from the hides and scales of the two killed Kaiju. Maybe even include their skull attacked to the tabard or crotch area like Kharn the Betrayer.
>>
>>2566670

>>2566716
Yeah that's it
>>
>>2566586
You have the adamantine scales from indra and a huge shell from the gamera expy, the scales you could easily turn into a badass tabbard. You also have bones that aren't good enough to be made into weapons but you could mount Indra's skull.

The turtle's head got popped though so that's a moot point.
>>
>>2567115
Eh. The thundery ones' skull should be enough for now.
>>
>>2567115
I have a vage idea of how to decorate Algol with bones
>>
Flying across the desolate sky, you search for prey. You gauge that there's enough time for one more scrap, but you're not sure of what to look for.

Grimmly was hard enough but with the regen core you're still in fighting shape, so it wouldn't be out of the question to try and quickly take down one of the contenders.

What do you do?

>search for a contender (who?)

>>2567148
Go on.
>>
>>2567153
It's nothing too elaborate or fancy. It's pretty much alighting the bones of the dead Kaiju to where they roughly should be. Ribs and spin on the torso. Bones attached to limbs. I don't think the turtle gave us much in the way of bones besides the shell.

>>2567150
As for choosing our contenders? I'm not sure how much leeway you'll give us as who and how many you'll let us fight, but here's my list.

#1) Sneak attack Arthur and Ares (probably a bad idea)
#2) a pro titan pilot fighting a bunch of other titans
#3) Any of the four remaining all-stars
#4) as many transfer as we possibly can at once

>Look for some rank and file targets

>>
>>2567192
Aquilon? The guy with the titan mini? If he kept to his theme at Niels detailed explanation all those weeks ago, he should still be all about speed. That tiny tot will be probably hard to hit, and if it remained small I'll assume has slightly below average HP.
Besides being smaller than the average Deta class titan, and on the assumption he's using a beta class thrusters, he should only have two equipment slots left. If he still has a spear of melee weapon I could guess the second equipment is a set of magnetic mitts.
Not sure if he can fit missile launchers on the torso of his Titan.

>you decide to look for Akashido

With your speed, Akashido will struggle to keep his distance, without any notable melee abilities, you can close in and hammer away without much effort. The problem will be that unlike Grimmly, Akashido will probably be fast enough to pursue you and with a large number of ranged weapons, and your lack of heavy armor this may be difficult.

When you find the quadraped titan engaed with 2 others, you find your opening. The torrent of missiles and lasers from Thunderer is entirely focused on wasting the two grunts.

Both legs give immediately and taking both severed limbs in hand you begin to beat him. Severely.

Its really more of an airborn clubbing where you just wildly swing Thunderer's own legs until the torso looks like a crumpled peice of scrap metal on the ground.

Looking at the two already damaged titans that were fighting Akashido, you pull out Durendal and point the glowing sparking tip at them.

"Just so you know I won my fight with Grimmly."

The two titans flop onto the ground and surrender.

"Fucking known I should have bet on the dark horse. Lost all my damn money."

One of the titans on the ground grumbles, maybe unaware that its being broadcasted.

Oh well. not your problem, you bet on yourself afterall.

Returning to your fortress you examine Algol for any damage or abberation that may have occured due to constatly taking damage and regenerating.

Looking at the internal diagnostic you see that once again Algol's internal workings have grown stronger. The all out war you waged with Grimmly required every scrap of strength Algol possessed even to the breaking point, so you're not surprised that he's evolved.

>Trait gained!
>Titanic Strength (+6 to strength rolls, can use weapons and equipment from a larger titan category)

Retiring to your bedchambers you decide to sleep for a full eight hours. After all of the fighting today and the emotional experience the day before, you feel the need for more substantial rest.

Lord knows that the bracket tournament will be trying, and then there's the final match to think of. It won't be long before everything begins to accelerate. But that is not an immediate concern, you just need to rest.

Alas I am not a drawfag, and cannot draw a picture and looking images on google hasn't brought up anything that would really match up with the description of Algol

110? Smashing! Do we have more time than the previous round to look for Credits and work on Algol? I'm going to assume that's the case.
We have two titans and we only need to reserve 50 Credits for the upgrade. That leaves us 60 credits to work with. That's enough for the Durendal upgrade(40), making Algol a badass tabard made of Adamantine Scales (would that cost us anything or could we make it ourself?) and a set of mouth and teeth(10).
