"These are for your harpies, right? Large and heavy weapons would just get in the way, and even more so since they need to fly with them." - he explains

We look at them with our [Ring of Knowledge] and find that they have enhancements for extended range, as well as heal on-hit effects, and max critical chance by default.

As usual from Grumnir's high quality work, they each have 6 empty [slots].

"What sort of enchantments would you like to have added to them, or will you do that yhourself?" - asks our friend

Well, someone mentioned it was this one time when we were outside on the gazebo at our garden and Lyann climbed unto our lap and we started kissing, but that was literally all it was, just cuddling and kissing.

If you are asking about actual sex, it was shortly after finishing the drama in the Heavenly empire with Mako, Ren and the minister of the right that was trying to usurp them. We'd need to customize one if we want the weapons to cause statuses. I guess we can either leave it to Lyann, since her thesis is about enchanting gear to begin with, just ask for her cooperation since shes a bard (singer/dancer final class) and that means she can cast all the status effects, or do it ourselves.

The weapons current enhancements (natural abilities) extend range by 178% (even though im the one that added that weird limit, i cant remember why. I think it was additively multiplicatively), and heal hp and mp by 135% of damage done already, so we could just get fancy on enchantments

Which status do you wanna apply? We currently have
Frog - turn enemy into a frog for 1d3 rounds (1 damage per attack, and makes it tiny, but doesnt change its defenses or hp. It also reduces speed to just 1 square per turn)
Poison - 10% of current hp dealt by turn for 10 turns (notice it cant kill you)
Heavy Poison - 10% of max hp each turn for 5 turns. (this one can kill you)
slow - attack or move each turn, not both
reduce resistance to [x] - change absorb to immune, immunity to resistance, resistance to normal, normal to weak, weak to crippling
charm - causes taret to slowly advance towards caster for 1d3 turns, unable to take other actions
silence - pretty typical status
blind - ditto
Berserk - can only physically attack for 1d3 turns
Addñed - must repeat last turn's actions for 1d4 turns. Can be useful if someone just healed themselves to full hp and you want them to waste mana, or if they hit you with a type of energy you absorb, or if they just moved, etc. Pretty situational

I think those are all the negative statuses. You could change "poison" for "burn" but its the same in the end

We thank Grumnir, go to our cabin and start working on the stingers. They're amazingly light and the materials take to the enchantments very well, so we're done with them by the time Lyann comes down from her shift at the helm.

After talking with her for a couple of hours, we decide on the best way to apply the effects on each weapon.

One will reduce its target's resistance to [Charm] with every hit, a effect stackable up to 10 times, and automatically cast [Charm] as a 100th level bard (1/3 of Lyann's Bard level) every 3 hits.

The other will simply cast [Deadly Poison] on-hit, each time refreshing its duration. Since it always deals 10% of its target's max HP, there's no point in reducing a target's resistance to it.

"So, who gets which?" - she asks

Im not sure about Janice having the charm weapon. I mean, she wants the enemy to attack her and lose their turn that way. If she has a weapon that charms the enemy, that means she's wasting her turn attacking insteaf of using taunt to provoke the enemy. Well, technically is not wasting her turn, but the thing is that she's just doing the same job and loses an option

Alright, so we give the poison to Nikita (the assassin) and the charm to Lyudmilla, the sniper.

I think Janice would like any armor or accessory that increased dodge, instead, since that's how she 'tanks,' by using taunt to provoke the enemy into a berserk-like state specifically against her, and having a high dodge against them, thus making them waste their turn.

I guess we could make her a more traditional tank if we drop heavy armor and a thorn-like effect on her so her attackers hit themselves when they hit her, but its the difference between

Attack her - miss - wasted turn (and she doesnt takes any damage)

or

Attack her - hit - hurt themselves more than they hurt her (but she's not 'tanky' in the traditional sense to begin with so she doesn't has all that much hp)

By the way, jus reminding you that her dodge is 55% with +25% against taunted (or berserk) enemies, but skills and spells target her normally, so we may want to address that somehow? Anyway the dodge is applied AFTER deciding if the attack would normally hit her to begin with, so she still has the same base chance as anyone else to dodge an attack, THEN her class/racial skill comes into play.

We assign the stingers to our assassin and our sniper, respectively, summoning them so they can equip the weapons.

"Ah! I got a gift from Master...!" - Nikita

The petite, black haired/feathered harpy happily equips the new items. Of course, as magic items, they adjust to her perfectly, and she goes around the room doing a "banzai!" gesture over and over, taking tiny hops as she celebrates.

"I-is this really alright, Master?" - Lyudmilla is a lot more skittish, which fits her surprisingly well as she tries to stay hidden even during combat.

Un. I wonder if her personality caused her to evolve in that direction to begin with?

"Yes, this is your weapon now, alright?" - we rub rub her hair softly, and she blushes with a smile while covering her round little face with both hands.

Ah, that was sort of dangerous, her 'stingers' almost poked our eye out when she did that.

Is alright, is alright, its not like she did it on purpose. These things extend the physical space her arms use, so she'll need to get used to them over time.

With the time zone change, we're having breakfast with Mako, Aritsu and Miel every 'morning,' then going back to the ship for our evening shift.

After that, it is finally time to treestride back to Albion and pick up Okaba's sister, Kya. We'll reach the city today, and she does want to help Stella in her attempt to help the enslaved beastkin.

I thought about this for a long while, but I haven't been able to decide. Normally as GM I would just decide on my own, at least by tossing a coin, but as QM, I think its fair to ask you guys what do you prefer.

Should Stella be posing as a powerful adventurer and using our family name to try and influence the opinions of the local nobles in a political way, or should she be posing as Alard's slace so she can infiltrate the slave's society and help them run away?

We politely skip on teasing her about her wardrobe, and [Treestride] back to the ship.

"What should we do now?" - asks the princess as she emerges unto the deck
"We should be able to see the city any minute now, so for now, just make yourself comfortable."

Honestly, her adventurer's clothes and armored dress are much better than those high-exposure fashions for nobles from her homeland at these latitudes.

Not that we would mind enjoying the sight of Kya's feminine figure, but she's freeze. Even more so because we're quite high... ah, come think about it, their palaces -are- quite high, and it does feel pretty fresh whenever we go visiting, so perhaps her people have a natural resistance to cold?

I wonder is we should recommend to her to go change into some more 'noble' garments, to enter the city as the princess of a exotic faraway land, or go with her to a local tailor so we can all dress in the local style.

Finally, the city comes into view, a wide modern settlement with a history of barely half a millenia, quite recent for the standards of most nations.

The buildings tend to be on the taller side, but they're no skyscrappers, being at most 4 floors high.

The rockitship docks are located atop a specially built structure, much wider than taller, as it looks like the local architects do not build higher than a certain point, with a few merchant ships already using 1/2 the available docking sites.

"Since we notified Stella and Alard of our arrival ahead of time, they're surely waiting for us down there." - says Lyann while looking down as if she was trying to spot them among the crowd

The streets appear to be pressed dirt for the most part, but there are several main roads paved with stone, and the city colors tend to be on the bright side, with many light green, white and blues everywhere.

As we head closed, we can see the dock, and a land crew hurries to signal us from the ground, pulling us in towards an empty space.

It is quite behind when compared to Silverspire, but I guess it is reasonable, for this world.

We finally approach the dock, and sure enough, we spot Alard and Stella on the ramp taking to our docking spot. They're dressed in the local style for nobles, it seems.

Alard is wearing long pants and coat under a long overcoat with short black fur and a fluffy neck. It looks quite warm.

Stella is dressed in what looks like the local style of a fine, long dress in a spotlessly white, light dress with a large cleavage exposure, and a overcoat as long as fluffy as Alard's, albeit in white, matching her dress. Her hair is, as usual, a soft-looking, short and fluffy style, albeit it is now orderly brushed and parted to the side, with no accessories.

Her normally pale gold hair is currently snow-white, though we remember hearing some species of beastkin change the color of their fur depending on the latitude, so she's probably adapted to the north without having a say on it.

The contrast of her snow-white hair and clothes against her shining, soft dark skin gives an impression of clean and proper, yet slightly sensual, though we quickly dismiss the last bit, as Stella is, after all, our cute and cuddly little sister, and we can already see her (currently white) fluffy tail energically wagging behind her as she raises a hand to hail us... and then seems to catch herself and just politely waves as she welcomes us to the platform.

"Big brother, welcome to Bastion." - she says with a calm and elegant demeanor...

It must have been hard to let herself be stared at and seen as some weird bug on purpose, specially since Stella has always been the free-spirited tomboy type. Representing all beastkin and trying to do so as best she can must have been tiring.

At the beginning, yeah, that-s why she had to force herself to keep smiling and being polite and educated no matter what, so she would continuously get invited to more and more events, where she would go through stuff like that over and over, but she still had to just smile and bear it and slowly change their minds. If she snapped and broke someone-s hand, she would make enemies and not get invited to as many events. She-s going for maximum exposure in order to slowly change their minds.

They know that beastkin are strong. They regularly use them as combat slaves, so just being strong isn't going to help change their minds at all, and if she snaps, well its just another brutish beastkin being dull and brutish. Even tensing up and jumping at times like that would also be read as being unused to being in polite society so its sort of a catch-22 for her.

Alright, so working with the future generation to m,ake them understand beastkin arent animals, then. It doesn't really matters if they become Stella's friends, or see her as a rival for whatever reason, so long as the idea that they aren't animals and are in fact people gets ingrained into them.

Of course its better if they become her friends, or even admirers, but either way, it will take 2 decades or more before they replace the current generation in power.

It will probably work, but it will be slow.

Well, since we're organizing events for the young, what sort of event should it be? There's dozens if not hundreds of young nobles/wealthy merchant sons and daugthers, so taking them to dungeon runs to be friends with them is not feasible.

Just parties? Book clubs? Chees clubs? Maybe create something new just for them, like a rockitship yatch club? I could see "bike races" becoming fashionable and attention-calling.

Yacht Racing Club with special small rock-it ships built for speed would make sense.
Eldric would also be behind the creation of rock-it airbikes and races involving them.
Tea and cake parties that bring new delicacies and pastries from across the world could be something that Stella could host.

I wonder if we should rip off MtG. I played that for like 20 years until I became too blind to read the cards, so I al super familiar with the cardboard crack.

Or maybe something more roleplaying-like? I think there's a system where you play 1 character and can equip it and have it do special actions for combat and such... could have a beastkin character that is a mage or a politics/special ops hog on its way to victory, to help spread the idea that beastkin aren't muscle-bound idiots?

Also, how about starting an orphanage and/or technical school for beastkin to have them grow into technitians and engineers for the fast rockit boats?

It would take a few years, but we're already taking the long route anyway.

Sure, but I don't think people would want beastkin teaching their children or taking care of them until their opinion has changed already. Its gonna take a long while.

Anyway, we can open a new orphanage/school and link it with the one in Albion with a honeydaery colony. Would have to house the bees in a greenhouse, though.

The carriage takes us to the upper section of town, where Alard and Stella have purchased a small state.

The manor is on the small side (as far as such buildings go), but it still has quite a large ball room, which probably was why it was chosen. The house staff is, unsurprisingly, all beastkin that Alard and Stella bought and then freed, though as born and breed slaves in a culture where such is institutionalized, it has been a slow process getting them used to the idea of being able to choose by themselves.

For the time being, they are working at the manor, and there were plans to later send them west and help them find a job there, albeit now they may instead help take care of the children if the manor is repurposed as an orphanage.

Well, its almost certainly too small for that, so a different property will have to be purchased for it.

It stands out that they are all felines... I wonder if Stella missed Zoe that much?

"Welcome back, young mistress, young master." - the house staff greets Stella and Alard on their return
"We're back. This is my big brother, Eldric. His fianceé, Lyann, and their friends..."

Stella introduces our group, and they bow politely.

"Please show them to their rooms, then notify us when dinner is ready." - says Alard, and we're guided towards our rooms.

Lyann and us got separate rooms... I guess Alard arranged the room placement? Our rooms -are- across the hall from eachother though, so its more like we got a double room.

The maid taking us to our room has white and pale grey spots on her hair and tail, which makes us think of a snow leopard or such. Her uniform is quite long, and makes us think of a traditional english maid, though it hugs her waist gently, giving her a distinct hourlgass figure all the same.

"I am Janna, please call for me if you need anything, young master." - she explains, then waits by the entrance for us to dismiss her

"T-this sla- hh... this one doesn't really understand what master Alard and lady Stella talk about most of the time, but... they treat us really nice, so this one would like to stay in their service forever." - she says after a moment

We say nothing, but nod, and ask her to stay still for a moment.

"Yes sir." - she replies right away, with a bit of eagerness in her voice

We scan her with our ring, and realize that, just like Zoe was when we met her, she's a baby, just a year old.

Stella (or Alard, probably) bought her fresh out of the breeder farm, so she doesn't really has enough experience to answer our questions properly.

There's nothing wrong in a maid calling the owner of the manor 'master' so that's alright, but she called Stella 'lady' and not 'mistress.'

"Ah... hh....~" - she blushes a little but looks quite happy as we rub rub her head gently
"Then, who's the oldest servant in the house? Could you call that person for me?"
"Yes~ " - she replies gently

She looks like she starts 'melting' as soon as we pet her, going from a serious maid to a pet or young child being spoiled.

She leaves the room then, and after a short while, a young-looking panther beastkin comes up to the room. She is wearing the same uniform as the leopard girl, but as we scan her discreetly, we see that she's 7 years old.

"What can I do for you, sir?" - she asks politely after coming in
"Is it alright if I ask you a few questions?"
"Of course, sir. You are the master's family, after all." - she says with a cheerful expression

"Is that so?" - she relaxes visibly for a moment - "This one is relived, then."

"Yes, that is all. Can this one assist you somehow else, sir?"

The dark skinned, black-haired panther beastkin looks at us with a friendly, but quite serious, attitude, her mood seeming much more relaxed than when she first came into the room.

Come think about it, we only decided to start the orphanage and training center during the ride here from the airship docks, so noone has informed the house staff about those plans yet.

I guess we could do so now, and ask for her opinion, or let Alard and Stella do it properly at a later date.

Right, originally, Stella was simply organizing as many social events as possible in order to change the opinion of the locals bit by bit. The idea of the orphanage and the school hadn't taken shape yet, and of course, there was no intention to build a race track or light rockitships, so of course the servants in the manor are still unaware of it.

Well, it is only obvious that their master and mistress should be the ones to give them the news, so we thank the head maid for her help, and dismiss her.

"Please call if you need anything, young master." - she says as she leaves

"Hm. It will take more than just a few years, you know? It may take a couple of generations, even." - comments Lyann
"A subtle and peaceful civil rights movement is probably better than a sudden change enforced by force."
"Oh, you sound older all of a sudden, but I think its nice."

"Hmm... aren't men just grown up boys?" - she smiles as she walks over and stands on tiptoes to give us a kiss

The rather cure staff in Stella and Alard's manor serves us a delicious dinner. The meats and drinks are of course, local, so its all new to us.

Well, it doesn't give us any buffs, but it is quite delicious.

"Big brother, are you enjoying the meal?" - Stella asks us with an eager smile
"Yes, it is very good."

She nods with a smile, and resumes eating in silence.
