Finally after two years in the service of the Dark Queen Quintis you have finally been promoted, no more marching through filthy peasant villages administering the Queen's justice, this is your chance to rise through the ranks of her Majesty's armies and become one of her generals.

Or so you thought until you got stuck in some goblin lieutenant's base and treasure hoard assigned the privilege of cleaning out and resetting his traps.
The grinding of rusty gears and a blood chilling scream cut short awake you from your cot in the base's barracks. It looks like your work day just started.

You roll out of your cot and open the trunk at its foot pulling out your set of standard army plate. How many times have you clambered into this armor? You can't recall but your muscle know the movements as you don the armor. You slide your helmet over your head and then reach to the head of your cot to grab your halberd, a fine weapon, it head gleams even in the poor light of the barracks. Now you are ready for the day.

"Might as well check the traps" you say to yourself as you head down the dark passage toward the trap you heard trip. Before long the hallway becomes completely dark and you have to feel your way forward. You understand why there can't be torches near the secret passage but that doesn't make you like stumbling in the dark any better. Before long your hand touches a wall and you begin feeling around for the hidden release. finding it the stone wall in front of you slides away to reveal a dim corridor. You seal the door behind you and head to the trap.

It was a simple trap a floor pressure plate tied to two extremely sharp blades. one swung towards the victims face, the other his gut disemboweling them when they raise their hands to protect their face. As the current victim had done. The man was cut in two his guts spilled all over the floor with his hands laying in a pile of intestines, cut off by the other blade. Heroes today you think to your self, if this one had invested in some good armor he wouldn't be laying in his own entrails. The only "armor" the man had was a leather brace on his sword arm, other than that his equipment was a rusted short sword and some sort of non-magical seashell charm around his neck. His pockets held just a few silver coins which you immediately pocket before returning to the task at hand.

>Drag the corpse to the body pit, even the lowest peasant doesn't deserve to be eaten by the beasts that stalk the always.

Keeping the beasts hungry won't net us any sympathies, but it's the easiest way to keep them motivated.

Before we reset the trap, clean the bloody mess so it doesn't leave a hint for any experienced heroes. Don't forget to take everything, clothes included. Hopefully you can stitch it up and wash out the blood. I honestly don't care for the dead guy. The goblins can eat the body for all I care. I don't know, do they eat the bodies?

Report to your commander
>>
>>2542214
If we loot nothing else, I definitely want to look that seashell charm. It feels out of place. Beyond that, chuck the body into the pit and make sure that we don't have any more skulkers hiding in any shadows.

You quickly reset the blade trap before you stoop down and place the man's two severed hands on his hips before dragging him to a nearby pitfall and depositing him down it but not before snagging his seashell necklace, sadly his dirty fingers yielded no rings only flecks of blood as you toss those down the pit as well before covering the hole. You examine the necklace more closely it appears to just be a seashell but as you stare at it, it starts to grow on you, you place it around your neck and tuck it into your armor before marching through the hallways, while many intruders come on their own you can never be too sure.

Patrolling options:
>Patrol through the hallways[Loud, likely to draw in intruders but more intruder's means more loot]

You move silently through the hallways your armor only making slight clicking noises as you walk. but it seems that it is enough for you to be heard as you turn a corner a man leaps at you swinging a short sword. Your years in the army serve you well as you quickly bring up your halberd and block the strike. The intruder is surprised at your agility in blocking his blow and is taken aback you take his reaction as a chance to finish him off.

In two quick motions you have him. You swing the butt of the halberd into his ribs knocking the wind out of him. The intruder doubles over wheezing for air, that is when you bring the ax head of the halberd down into the center of his back. With a meaty thwack it lodges into his spine and the intruder collapses onto the floor. You pry your halberd loose from his back and stand triumphant.

It is then that you notice this man isn't dead, although this breaths are ragged and irregular and his face is stiff and frozen with pain and terror he is alive you consider finishing him off but when you notice that the man is wearing a seashell charm similar to the other intruder you pause and consider your options.

"If you answer my questions swiftly and truthfully I just might have time to save your life" Its a lie and you know it with the wound you gave him he is likely paralyzed from his ribs down and your boss doesn't exactly believe in keeping healers on hand, but the dying man on the floor believes you anyway and he slowly nods his head. You pull the seashell necklace from around your neck and dangle it in front of him "What are these?" you ask.
"They're the sign of the hero who's going to end Queen Quintis's reign," More of these hero rebellions? how many "heroes" does the Queen have to kill for these guys to get the message? You sigh before putting the necklace back on and continue Your questioning.

"How many of you are there?" You ask. This time he hesitates, his eyes flick away from you and he swallows before answering "Just two of us, we were supposed to scout the fort, now that's all I know please help me." You're not sure whether you should admire this man's guts for lying to you on his death bed, or laugh at his stupidity.

You bring your foot down on to his face hoping that a small beating will loosen his tongue but your stomp knocks him out cold. he's not worth the time or the trouble killing so you leave him for the forts beasts to finish off. He didn't give you all that much information but what he didn't say spoke volumes. There are more intruders in the fort and what's worse is that they are intruders with a motivation that is more than just gold or curiosity, meaning that they won't just scare off. What are you going to do?

If these intruders were on recon then their most likely target would be information. You hurriedly rush to the Boss's raid room all of his battle plans, orders from the queen, and even a map of the fort was stored there, the intruders couldn't be allowed to have it. You arrive at the raid room to find its door ajar and light pour out from inside. Was the intruder already inside? or is it the Boss making plans for another raid. Maybe you should just stay outside and wait to see who comes out.

Enter:
>Burst in and surprise whoever is inside, it might be the intruder.
>Knock and ask who is inside, its probably just your boss.

You are going to do it right this time. You remove the man's belt and use it to bind his hands before dragging him by his feet to the kennels. The pungent stink of the kennels assault your nose it is the smell of rotting corpses, feces, and wet dog. Although most of the beasts had been set loose to roam the halls a few goblin wolves were still in their cages. At the smell of human flesh they perk up and begin to snarl and bark at you as you drag the unconscious man in front of the cages. He begins to stir as you drop his feet.

The intruder's eyes flutter open and soon grow wide with terror as he looks at you. He lets out a scream and slides himself away from you backing up against an empty cage. "Hey, calm down its alright look, I'm human." You remove your helmet to reveal your clean shaven face and well trimmed red hair, you did always like to keep well groomed. His eyes lose some of their fright but he remained backed against the cage. You pull the seashell necklace from around your neck and show it to him "See I'm one of you guys," Now his body loses most of its tension as he exhales in relief pleased to see one of his own, But now his face frowns as he stares questioningly at you "But why are you here their were only supposed to be three of us and why did you hit me?"

I mean, if I just walked up 'yes hello, I work here, but for the resistance!' it... well, it's not always prudent if I don't want to die, and most fellow freedom fighters are too keyed up to see reason when they expect a life or death fight...for what it's worth, I'm sorry. its not the worse existence

Sorry if I haven't explained this before but the dice system will be as such for non combat skill checks
0 successes [total failure
1 success [bad success]
2 successes [success]
3 successes [great success]

In general I will try to wait for at least three rolls before writing but running during the week can be slow and I want to keep this quest moving so if it takes too long for a third roll I will just take the average of the first two rolls.

If you are wonder why the combat above wasn't different its because the intruders were extremely weak and not worth setting up combat for once you encounter a serious enemy I will explain combat.

"Because I need to keep up appearances. Look, I'm in a position of authority. It was hit you and tie you up and drag you down here for an interrogation or risk being seen to fail in my duty. What good to any effort against the queen would I be if I failed to blend in, especially at my level?"

"So here's the situation as I see it. I'm in a position to alter guard patrols, create vulnerabilities, send out undermanned raids, things like that. I'm in a position to bump off the boss over my own head, take his place, and run this entire chickenshit outfit. A man on the inside would be far more valuable if he could do that for the queen's opponents, right? So what's a few scrapes?"

"My opportunity here is precarious. I need to remain invisible not just to my boss, but also to anyone that might betray me to the enemy if they were captured. So I can't share much but I can set up a way to talk for later, a signal system. Right now, I need to know what you know, and then I need you to disappear. Few know of me because to speak of it openly endangers the whole operation - it is not surprising that no-one mentioned me. I've been working without support since I was placed here. That's my lot. So tell me what you know, then let's set up a way to talk, and get you out. And don't speak of this to anyone lest the whole scheme go to pieces. Those that need to know of me already do."

"Well now that you say it I'm not entirely sure it was a man, I think it might have been a woman, her voice was too high to be a man, and she was a little shorter than the average man but that's about all I can tell you about her other than the fact that she was wearing a grey cloak with a hood."
"Hmm, alright I guess we don't have the same recruiter, where did you meet this lady anyway."

Thankfully you don't run into any of the beast or goblins on your way through, most of the goblins were probably still sleeping anyway, the lazy bastards, you arrive at the entrance to the fort and untie the man.
"Before you go can ask a favor?" you ask the intruder.
"Sure what is it,"
"Well," you start "I'm completely cut off from my employer's in here and any information I can get from the outside would be extremely helpful in coordinating what information I should sent out. If I were to send you a letter with a time and place would you be there."
The intruder pauses to think about your proposition before answering, "That's fair, considering you saved my life, alright I'll do it,"
You smile broadly and thank him,Then you ask "What's your name,"
"Renton," he answers.
"Well then Renton, thank you once again and remember no one should know about this, the fewer people who know the less likely I am to be revealed. "He nods his head in agreement before dashing off into the mid morning sun.

It was time to see what records you had on the village of Resis, but before that errands had to be run. You return to the already dead intruder to find his corpse being chewed on by two goblin wolves, you blow into the goblin whistle you keep around your neck and the two beasts shy away from the corpse. Luckily for you they had only just started to tear at the corpse, checking the dead man's pockets you find a single gold piece, probably pretty rich by this guy's standards, but little else his clothes and boots were dirty and worn, not worth much, and his short-sword seemed to have disappeared into thin air. With nothing left of value you do a quick check of the traps make sure that they're all set. All of the traps looked to be set and ready for the next poor sap who walked into it. With that done you feel confident no one else is left in the maze and if there were anybody left, either the traps or the beasts would notify you of their presence. You return to the raid room to find it as you had left it, a mess, but that was mostly because the boss himself didn't organize anything, so you spent the better part of an hour cleaning up and digging through the mess of papers and reports compiling what there is on Resis.

Resis:
Population:60
Security: Minimal/None
Wealth: Low
Income Source: Agriculture/Trade
Development Level: Village

Summary:
Resis is a medium sized village on one of the main roads of the Empire. It gets most of its income via the outlying farms and the market inside the city. I lacks any sort of defensive structures and it easily assaulted, although if given time a small militia could be roused along with any brave travelers staying at the village's inn.

As you finish your reading you hear heavy footsteps approach the raid room, and seconds later the fat form of your boss waddles into the raid room. He was taller than the average goblin but twice as strong and ugly and three times as fat. His armor was a mash of bits and pieces taken off of fallen foes all strapped together with leather. When he catches sight of you and the state of the room his green face turns red and starts to twitch. "WHAT HAVE YOU DONE," he bellows.

Tell him we killed a man that managed to get in here by chasing him out and then into a trap, and that you managed to get information out of him while he was dying about a possible traitor in Resis, and that you'll need to investigate further. Because you're Human, and they won't suspect you when you go there and ask questions.

If he starts yelling, yell back. He's the one with the security failure so bad we had to save his ass - imagine what would happen if the Queen caught wind of someone getting into his raid room. Of course, he can trust you - you've been cleaning up ever since you fixed the matter.

"An intruder made it into the raid room," you answer
"AN INTRUDER WHAT," your ears resounded with his voice. Your boss was heaving in breaths now and his face looked like an extremely veined cherry.
"Don't worry he was been dealt with but before he expired he let slip that we might have a traitor hiding out in Resis I was gathering information to head out and investigate, seeing as I am human I figured it was best that I went as to avoid detection." Your boss's face takes on a slightly greener hue as he calms a little bit before answering you "There's a traitor in Resis, how fortunate I was just about to collect the royal due from them, but now it seems that I might just have to take a bit more from them."
"But YOU aren't going anywhere, as my head of security this breach is on your head, I want you to sweep this entire fort and then find out how that intruder got through YOUR defenses. I will take the Garrison and clear out Resis."

>>

Yes and no , all goblins have the standard green skin long nose and pointed ears, but some have less warty and broken faces. As for reproduction, they breed sort of like bees one queen breeds with the strongest goblins of the bunch to produce a large brood. The goblins in this group were all a part of the boss's raiding group before they were hired by the regional commander to oversee taxes in the area

You have had enough of your boss's laziness and ineptitude, burning this village to the ground was going to scatter the only lead you had on the hero. Rushing to the village wouldn't save anything now so you do the only sensible thing complain. You wait until your boss and the garrison leave before returning to the raid room to write a letter to the regional commander, as you remember the commander was a sensible person if you gave him enough reason to remove your boss he would, you start your letter cordially before moving on to your boss's past blunder's and excesses, and then end with his most recent and possibly biggest blunder yet, burning down the village. You sign and seal the letter before hiding it away in your equipment trunk in the barracks, you would send the letter out with the next tax pick up.

With that finished you head out into the maze to go and examine the traps, it would be some time before your boss returned, you were also curious as to why that last intruder hadn't fallen into a trap even the correct path through the maze was trapped so why hadn't he tripped any. You go through the maze to examine the traps carefully looking for anything that would have caused them not to trigger.

You go around to each of the traps in the maze and examine each mechanism carefully upon closer inspection of one of the traps on the correct path you find that chips of stone, dirt, and dust have clogged the pressure plate in the floor making it unable to be triggered you remove the plate and clean out the dirt before replacing it. You tap the plate with your halberd butt and back away, the trap activates and section of the roof slams down around the area of the pressure plate satisfied with your work you reset the trap and go examine others two more traps have the same problem which you fix as well. Now the maze has been rearmed and is ready for anyone foolish enough to come snooping.

With your work finished you step out of the base for some fresh air and to see whether the village had been burned to the ground yet. As you walk out of the entrance in to the setting sun you are nearly knocked over by a group of goblins. They are all running in a panic past you and into the base, regaining your footing you grab one trying to run past you and pin him to a wall and ask "What the hell is going on here,"
"IT WAS A TRAP," he squeals as he fidgets in your hands
"What was a trap," you demand.
"When we went into the village the place looked abandon, except for this one girl standing in the middle of the street, she challenged the boss to a fight. He accepted and they went at it but, but, that girl was a monster the boss couldn't land a hit on her then she chopped his head clean off." The thought of that fat bastards head rolling in the dirty almost made you laugh but the goblin's next words sober you up quickly. "After that the villagers came out, they had us surrounded we just barely escaped but they were hot on our heels, Look!" The goblin squeaked as he pointed towards the horizon. He was telling the truth you could see dark shapes moving on the horizon. "We've got to get out of here," he whimpered.

the base stats are:

ah shit. Hm. I don't suppose the panicked goblins got a headcount on what we're looking at? Ideas include what >>2553877 mentioned but also have the gobs be ready to ambush if they avoid a trap and are kind of helpless during, say if they dive away from the falling ceiling.

We could also feign being captured and then knife someone but that's only one guaranteed kill. If we get the leader though it might be #worth.

for a head count on the enemies you could either try and count them from a distance, get an inaccurate count from the scared goblins, or a pretty close count from them if you calm them

I say evacuate but be orderly, unleash the hounds, leave the traps set, and make sure the raid room are empty or at least cleared of the most valuable items. "Alright you little shits, the old boss is dead, I'm the new boss now and if you don't get your asses out into that maze and defend my base, I will execute each and everyone of you for treason." The goblins halt their preparations while you speak, but as you finish, most simply sneer and return to packing, one goblin however stands up and says "You ain't the boss and a wimp like you never will be," you close the distance quickly with the goblin and slam your fist into his face, he crashes to the floor out cold his nose bent in an awkward angle. We're a trap master right? Can we rig up some traps using rope, sap, lamp oil, rusty blades?

Rope or something as a trigger that would cause lamp oil or sap to spill, or a counter weight that would pull a peasant onto a rusty sword?

Fuck at some point we'll have to release the goblin beasts. We should have breed more of those mutts. It's not like we're low on bodies to feed more.

I really don't want to leave this behind- it won't look good to our direct superior. Now that they're calmed down (somewhat), let's find the most rational gobbo and get a rough headcount of what we're dealing with. If the number isn't as bad, we might be able to hold out.

The female fighter will be the hardest to overcome, though we might be able to use the "Help I'm captured" trick to knife her before she figures it out.

>Pep talk the goblins 1 success moral unchanged
>Placing goblins for ambush -1 bad failure

You grab the goblins in pairs and lead them to different sets of traps throughout the maze and give them a little pep talk once placed but the effects of your words don't seem to help, you lead the last group to their ambush point when disaster strikes, One of the goblins steps on a pressure plate and the trap springs cutting him in three. The other goblin lets out a terrified shriek and clings to your leg and your threats and blows could not dislodge him, he would not leave your side. you sigh and let him remain with you but he is shaking like a leaf in the wind. You finish resetting the trap and dragging the goblin corpse away when you hear a thunderous amount of foot steps. The intruders had arrived.

You would have to hide close to a trap to ambush the survivors, somewhere out of the way that is when it comes to you the secret passage ways. You quickly find a trap along the correct route through the maze and hide nearby in a secret passage. When the goblin attached to your leg starts to whimper in the darkness of the passageway you place your halberd's spear tip on the top of his head and warn him that if he makes another noise you will drive it through his skull. The goblin falls silent. Now you wait.

The sounds of the foot steps stay extremely loud, sounds like the crowds of peasants were staying together, but there footsteps faded in and out of earshot many times. You could hear the traps trigger followed by the screams of peasants and the shouts of your few brave goblins and the snarls of wolves. By the time you hear the peasants approaching your trap the number of foot steps had been greatly reduced. You hear the trap next to you trigger, and it is quickly followed by the screams of more peasants. Silently you open the secret passage and approach the peasant group from behind.

You move quickly to the peasant group, the first man doesn't have time to scream as you swing the axe end of your halberd and decapitate him the next man shouts but is quickly silenced as you spear him in the throat and he collapses gurgling blood at your feet. Four peasants turn to face you as does a woman with long red hair and cloth covering most of her face except for a slit at her eyes, compared to the peasants she might as well be a knight she wore mostly leather armor except for metal shin, and forearm guards as well as a metal breast plate that had the image of a seashell painted on it. In her right hand she held a curious looking short sword.

As you dash through the maze the woman's voice booms out make you stutter in your step "STOP," behind you three of the peasants stop in their tracks, but the fourth keeps coming after you. Then up ahead you see it an tripped collapsing ceiling trap, with a small hop you clear the pressure plate and continue running, you turn a corner and wait. Sure enough you hear the trap trigger and the peasant scream as the roof section crushes him flat turning his scream into a sad wheeze.

You take the secret passages at a sprint you had to collect your remaining goblins and plan an ambush all before the intruders arrived. You arrive in the barracks to find three goblins shoving the last of some food into sacks as you burst in, you recognize one of them as the one who had been clinging to you a moment ago. "There are only a few left, come with me, we are going to finish this." Two of the goblins nod and follow you the third scared one doesn't move until the one you had punched grabs him by the nose and pulls him with. You cross quickly to the treasury door to find your two other goblins still working at the door. "Enough of that, we're gonna meet these bastards and end them," you say and the two of them drop their tools and follow you now for the ambush. As you return to the main hall you hear footsteps approaching you'd have to set your ambush here and fast.

>>

We hid in either the barracks or raid room. The door can be slightly ajar, but the Bosses room should be fully open so they assume we went that way. When they bass our door and enter or are close to entering, we sneak attack them.

It'll have to work for now.
Ok so we stick at least a few Goblins into each room except the Entrance Hall, we're gonna have to put a lot of junk and stuff into that room so it becomes more hazardous for the Peasants charging in, once they go into the other rooms is when we spring the Ambush. After we got at least half of the enemy force decimated or reduced to about 40 or 50% is when we straight up charge the Hero, provided she's still distracted with trying to save her Peasant dogs from death.

Sound good lads? Or will there be needing some changes to it?
>>
>>2557804
We have like three goblins versus who knows how many peasants and a hero. I say we all hide in the raid room and when the peasants come through we rush them.
>>
>>2557842
you have 5 goblins and as far as you remember the only intruders left are the hero and 3 peasants
>>
>>2557842
That works too, also remind us to recruit more enduring minions when this is all over because Goblins certainly don't last very long in combat.

The only hole I can see in this plan is the potential chance for the Hero and Peasant dogs heading straight for the Barracks in some wierd ass idea that there might be goblins still asleep or still attempting to pack up and they want to hit them with their metaphorical pants down...

Besides that it's a working plan and much simpler than mine so I'm for it.
>>
Do we have some foul goblin shit the goblins can toss at the peasants? we probably won't need much to break them, and can we hide goblins inside piles of paper from the raid room? Put some golden coins on top of a pile of paper that got a goblin inside and you have a shitty a trap right there.

You quickly order your five goblins to hide in the raid room and to charge the intruders if they attack the barracks. You then take your position in the barracks, regardless of which room they choose you'll have them flanked. Once you were all settled you could hear the intruders approach, they were taking it slow one step at a time, as they moved you could hear them getting closer to your location, dammit you had wanted them to head to the goblins first but it looks like you were first.

You look around for anything to replace your halberd with as the intruders back you into a corner. There along the wall to your right a weapons rack, but if you want to reach it you're going to have to fight your way there. you wield your broken halberd in one hand and you ready your dagger to the other.
>COMBAT START
The way combat will work for this quest is that both sides will roll a 3 d20s , the averages of these rolls will be subtracted from each other and the side with the lower damage will receive what is left, modifiers will be added wholesale to damage done, or defense witch will lower any damage that hits the target.

You can see some of your opponents bonuses are obvious to eye but some are hidden or not as clear, and can be revealed through combat, experience, or intrigue.

As combat progresses and health lowers it will be come harder to fight ie:

> HP < 70% -1 to combat rolls
> HP < 50% -2 to combat rolls
> HP < 25% -3 to combat rolls
This effects both you and your enemies

[Roll 1s here boys and YOU WILL DIE and the stories POV will shift on to the next unfortunate soul in the Queen's service]

You force your way over to the weapons rack though a hail of strikes, the hero is fast and her sword seems to glow as she swings at you but you duck her swing just in time, the peasants follow up with their own strikes but their weapons are crude and your armor is good, their strikes bounce harmlessly off of your armor as you reach the weapon rack you drop your halberd and pick up a short sword, now you can strike back. As you turn and face them you notice movement behind them you only realize what it is as does the hero seconds before it happens. The hero turns and blocks the strike aimed at her shin and turns to face the goblin, her friends aren't so lucky and they are run through by the goblins. Now it is the hero who is surrounded.

You bring down your sword in a heavy overhead slash forcing the hero to block she catches your strike and in doing so exposes her side, a goblin taking advantage of her raised arms slashes her exposed side. She screams in pain and twists out of her block. Blood oozes out of the wound in her side as she re-positions herself to continue the fight, but to your surprise she raises her sword into the air and it starts to shimmer and glow before letting out a flash of light.

Make sure we strip her of all of her possessions and make sure that she's bounded in rope or chains that are tight on her limbs to restrict movement, after that interrogate the everliving shit out of her until she gives up everything she has in information or doesn't budge an inch, and then kill her quickly.
>>
>>2559305

But let's do this ourself and alone so we have total focus. Go get the remaining goblins to loot the bodies and see if any of the Wolves survived.

Knocking the hero unconscious had presented a wonderful opportunity to pull out this rebellion root, stem, and leaf, You would break her and find everyone who had helped this rebellion.
>>2560159
>>2560296
But Heroes were often known for their ability to withstand personal torture so you decide upon a different plan. You turn to your surviving goblins and had out orders "Alright I want you five to sweep the maze, look for survivors, if you find any peasants alive bring them to the kennels, and lastly strip the corpses of any valuables," at your last words the goblins smile from ear to ear, and then they head on their way. Now it was time to deal with the hero. You confiscate all of her equipment, stripping her naked, before hauling her unconscious body down to the kennels, You bind her hands and feet together before tossing her into one of the wolf cages you weren't taking chances with the hero. While you waited for your goblins to report you search through the heroes equipment for anything of value.

We are in severe need of more goblin wolves. Or any kind of beast we can tame.
I doubt we can refit any of the heroes gear to our own set considering she's smaller and a women. Her sword though...that's worth keeping. What kind was it? A shortsword? Longsword?

Can we retrieve the head of the halberd and find a replacement shaft for it? We should also send a letter to command and retrieve the old bosses corpse for loot and the key.
>>
>>2560622
Honestly we're in severe need of any kind of minion, even a bunch of zombies would be a step up from where we are now for numbers.
As for the armor we can either sell it off piecemeal or breakdown the parts to add onto our own set. The Sword may or may not be a problem if it's something that doesn't like the touch of evil on it which will more than likely fuck with us.

The first thing you examine is the hero's sword, it was a gaudy little thing with the cross guard and pommel but the steel of the blade looked good and well polished, but as you inspect it closer you can make out some kind of magic runes running along the center of the sword, you can't tell what it says but maybe if you make an etching of it and send it to the royal magicians guild they could tell you. Other than the sword her armor seemed to be mostly intact it would fetch a decent price but it would neither fit you nor improve your armor. Lastly you find her coin purse, it contained just a decent amount gold coins. As you finish sorting through the hero's equipment, you hear someone descend the stairs to the kennels, you turn to see a goblin walking over to you "Report," you demand.

>I need 3 people to roll 3d20s

the first die determines your survivors.
the second determines if you find any peasant survivors.
the third determines how much loot is obtained.

Maybe we can find a den of goblins to "recruit" into our ranks. The zombies though. That would be tricky. Not only would they stink up the place, we'd need to hire a necromancer to make us a few.

Selling or breaking down the armor is a good idea. Or maybe saving it to five to our most competent minion? I still want to get that fat Fuck's shit back in town. I'm sure the goblins can make something out of his scrappy armor. Judging my his girth, there should be enough to give our remaining goblins some that's passable for armor.

We probably touched the sword while we were stripping the girl naked. Perhaps that 'touch of evil' doesn't affect Baldur because he's not truly evil, or there is no such enchantment.

All that sounds like a good idea, but let's not forget about the goblins. No idea if any of them survived, but we need to put some discipline in them. They can't rely on their small stature, night vision and numbers to overwhelm the enemy. Do you think bringing back the old bosses head and mounting it to the wall would help reinforce the notion they should not slack off, or would that be a terrible idea?

The head mounting would be a good idea since they act very cowardly for their stature and tried to start shit with us when we took command.

Your goblin breaks into a smile as he begins his report "We have recovered 3 of the goblin wolves, they are safe and sound, as for the humans we have found three survivors," he says as two goblins lead in three human prisoners bound, blindfolded and gagged, "And lastly for the loot," the smile on his face became extra toothy "I'll think you'll be needing this boss," he says as he hands you the key to the treasury, "We found it on one of the peasants, I guess he got sticky fingers, besides that, we got a good amount of money off of the dead as well and this weird coin," he says as he places a coin into your hand. It was a peculiar thing that on one side cast in gold was the face of the goddess of good luck and on the other side cast in a black metal was the god of bad luck.

"Where is the gold," you ask. The goblin pulls a bulging coin purse from his hip and hands it to you. You pour a 1/4 of it out into your hand before splitting it into fifths giving some to the three goblins assembled. To the one who brought you the report you give the remaining 10% and tell him to divvy it out to the other two goblins. He nods and you dismiss them saying "Clean out those peasants corpses and reset the traps then report back." You have work to do but with the treasury key in hand you really want to see what kind of funds you are working with.

What's the typical methods of torture? The pull rack? That one where you make them sit on the wedge to give the feeling of them being split in half? Hot pokers? Branding? Shallow cut to the dermis with a knife?

If none of those work then maybe BDSM tier humiliation? We could tie up their arms and legs so they're walking on their elbows and knees, then have the goblins rude them for shits and giggles.

Taking a bucket of cold water you splash it onto the unconscious Hero. She bolts awake and reaches for where her sword would be, but she soon realizes her predicament and covers herself with her bound hands as you lean close to the bars of the cage. The slash in her side had swelled up and it looked like it was starting to scab. "My name is Selenas Redwater," good, a name to go with the crushed face.
"Ok Selenas, who sent you," You detect a hint of pride and defiance as she answers your question.
"Falenta Estelle," She must be the true hero you think, even her name is enough to inspire her captured friend.
"Who told you we would be in Resis today,"
"I convinced three of the townsfolk, I don't know their names, to scout your base, only one returned but he told me that you guys were planning to visit to collect taxes soon so, I drew up an ambush and convinced the town to help. When I killed the one ordering the others around, I assumed that he was the boss and that a quick follow up at his base would dislodge the Queen from this area, but I guess I didn't kill the boss, only one of his lackeys,"

Head to the treasure room and see whats in there

You reach into the cage and grab Selenas by the nose, then grabbing her head with your other hand you straighten out her nose. She lets out a howl of pain as you pop it back into place. You then release her, close the cage and lock it. "And so it begins." you say to her before you turn your attention to the peasants.

>Question them they might know something Selenas doesn't
>Lock them up they are useful still
>Execute them
>Torture them, that should loosen Selenas's tongue

Might be a spell stopping her, might die if she tries to tell. Lets not ask about that without mage help in case of magical kill switch, we are not in a hurry and that might get some high ranking queen folk to visit us to do that part of the interregation.

How many of you are left in the village?

Do we have any forced labor that needs to be done?

All three of the peasants had been locked into separate cages but they were all within earshot to hear your questions, before you can ask your first question however Selenas screams from across the room "Don't kill them. Please don't." the three peasants all stiffen at her words before you turn around and shout, "SILENCE," you turn back to the peasants and begin your questioning.

"How many of you are-,"
"PLEASE DON'T KILL ME," yells one of the peasants before you could even get your first question out.
"I won't kill you if you answer my questions truthfully and don't interrupt me, now once again how many of you are left in Resis."
"I don't know how many came with us but the village has around 60 people living in it." one peasant answers.
"Please, lord we only wanted to protect our village, that lady said that if we didn't fight back you were going to burn down the whole village."
If that was the case you could probably still stabilize that village if you had more troops but what to do with these peasants.

To be fair, I wanted to no such thing. That fat oaf left before I could talk some sense into him.
>Sentence them to hard labor expanding the dungeon once you refilled the garrison
We're not a monster, but they will pay for their crimes against the queen. Once they've done their time or I feel other wise, they may return to their homes.

Honestly they seem like the type of people that will do whatever you tell them to do if you spook them a bit, so why not put them to better use than sending them to certain death?

No point in killing them, but we need to punish them for obvious reasons.

Okey, after we've delt with the peasants i have an idea to bring order back to that village.

We gag the girl and slump her naked self over a horse with we riding it.

When we arrive at the village we pull her hair up and ask them ' Is this your hero you pathetic worms?
I should thank you, really, for culling my army from weakness, but...
Your actions were a great crime against her highness...What's worse! You still haven't payed your taxes"

We point to the prettiest girl we can see and say

"You are going to personally deliver double the villages taxes by tomorrow night at my garrison"
"Or else I will kill the prisioners I have and burn this village to the ground"

Let them believe that the fatty waa just a henchman and that we are some kind of uberknight and that they still have some hope of seeing their family members alive.

Man we are so in over our head, let's enjoy it while it lasts hehehehe
>>
>>2563213
That, or... we could play it smart, get support from the local commander and re-establish order while we move up the hierarchy.
It's way slower tho.
>>
>>2563238
I was thinking in getting double tax and everything in order before we send word to him, to show initiative and competence you know. Maybe this way they'll put us in charge instead of sending someone else
>>
>>2563243
I'm not for sending a premature tax request at double the rate
>>
>>2563243
It's simple: pin all the fault on the old boss and the hero raid, leaving the latter alive as proof. Then inquire about the tax situation and propose an eventual double collection.
Much more elegant of a solution.
>>
>>2563286
well, they have to be punished somehow, is either that or burn the place down

>>2563293
yeah, I know, I was thinking that showing their hero beaten and humiliated with the added bonus of us having their family members prisioners would make them instantly fall in line
