Fungeon Crawl is a cooperative Lego roleplaying game where you control a party of heroic adventurers seeking to explore the depths of the Tomb of the Entombed. You, the player, post commands for the party, along with “dice+1d6” in the options field. In turn, I will carry out your commands and post images and narration of what ensues.

The previous adventures, Funtron and Emily Jones and the Quest for Playability can be found here, along with the first three rounds of Fungeon Crawl: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/qstarchive.html?tags=Fun%20with%20Lego

The fourth round of Fungeon Crawl can be found here: >>2504055

AVA: “There is. We’re currently trying to stop a group of cultists from reviving an ancient evil and destroying the world. It’s kind of important and we were wondering if you’d like to pitch in.”

CARMEN: “But what if you weren’t a hero, but a brooding antihero instead? Just think about the melancholic potential! And besides, morally gray villains are pretty popular these days.”

MALCRYTHE: “Oh, an antihero! I couldn’t possibly imagine anything more captivating! Yes, you’re right. We mustn’t let these cultists have their way or else I shall never have the chance to conquer the world with my horde of the living dead. How can I assist?”

CARMEN: “We need more information. Can you tell us anything about the Tomb of the Entombed, or its inhabitants, or how you came to live here?”

MALACRYTHE: “The laments of my life begin in a desolate alley in Funville, where as a young child I was abandoned by my parents, who were shortly thereafter devoured by ravenous dire pigeons. I had nothing to my name but the rags I wore and the crate I slept under. In the daytime, the flies swarmed thick around my head as though waiting for me to perish, and by night, I was lulled to sleep by the soft scuttling of the incessant swarms of rats with which I shared my lonely alley.”

AVA: “Oh, you must have lived in Ratfly Alley. I used to run a shop there.”

I heard the lugubrious susurrations that echoed within the cavernous depths of their skulls—whispers of the dead, yes, the resonance of souls long-departed. I realized then that I did have something other than my rags and crate! Within me dwelt the eldritch and arcane power of necromancy. Oh, how it yearned for me to harness it! I was too poor to afford even a shiny rock, let alone a magick crystal staff, but I could not surrender this dream once I had found it. I steeled my resolve and began to work.”

With Malacrythe, Lacrimosa, and Persephone accompanying you, you return to R13 to check out the northern door there.

MALACRYTHE: "May I ask what our current plan is?"

STEVE: "Well, we found this diary written by a demon hunter named Constance, and she said she left some useful treasure lying around near here, so that's what we're looking for: the Aegis of Conquest and, uh, something else too."

MALACRYTHE: "Ah, yes, an aegis; a word I most certainly know the meaning of."

STEVE: "I, uh, actually have no idea what it means. What is an aegis anyway?"

MALACRYTHE: "Well, if you insist, an aegis is, ah, much akin to an eagle, but...larger, and with greater magickal prowess."

STEVE: "Wow! I wonder how Constance got a giant magic eagle all the way down here."

Speaking of magical birds, in the next room you find three of them dead at the feet of a marble statue. In the statue's hands are a golden shield and spear—they must be the Aegis of Concord and Spear of Radiance.

What will you do?
>>
>>2535458

First, check for some invisible barrier the birds might have crashed into and killed themselves on.

Second, put something firm in front of the statue, so when it comes to life after we take the items it'll bang right into something solid.

Better make sure there's nothing fishy going on here before you try taking those artifacts. You poke around near the birds with the butt of your spear to see if there's some sort of invisible barrier that they might accidentally flown into, as birds are wont to do.

While Steve and The Brick prepare their relic heist, you have a couple other things to take care of as well.

CARMEN: “Say, Malacrythe, I know we’ve asked you about pretty much everything else in the Tomb, but do you know anything about a lich that’s said to live here?”

MALACRYTHE: “Oh, you must mean Eldistachia Anathemalion, the Charnel Sovereign!”

CARMEN: “Is that, uh—is that really the lich’s name?”

MALACRYTHE: “Well, that’s what I call her…”

CARMEN: “So you’ve met?”

MALACRYTHE: “In a sense. To tell the truth, it was to study necromancy under the legendary lich of the Tomb of the Entombed that I came to this place. But alas, Eldistachia Anathemalion seems rather too busy to take on an apprentice. I’ve often gone to seek her wisdom in her unholy sanctum, but her skeleton attendants always drive me out before I can speak with her. Though since I don’t know Ancient Legalese, perhaps would be futile anyway.”

CARMEN: “What exactly is Eldystopian Anthemlion busy with?”

MALACRYTHE: “Oh, dark and obscene rituals, no doubt. She spends most of her time fussing over some statue and chanting. It’s all I ever see her doing. I don’t suppose it’d be wise to interrupt.”

CARMEN: “Just between you and me, Mal, but I think wisdom might be our party’s dump stat.”

Meanwhile…

AVA: “Compass of Locating, point me to the cultists.”

The compass needle wobbles, points in several directions, then seems to give up and reset itself. You’re not sure what that means, but perhaps the cultists have split up? If the compass can only track one thing at a time, it would make sense that “the cultists” would be an invalid query. You don’t like the idea of accidentally bumbling into a cultist ambush, but perhaps they’d be easier to tackle one at a time?

Huh.
Nevermind. I must have had a glitch when I updated.

>>2536399
Great ideas, however...

>Heal up Brick
With cordial?
We could try.

>give him the Sword of Chima
Makes sense, if the activation and deactivation code phrase work when pantomimed.

>grab the lich's crystal
Last time, that hurt.
Although it was Ava that tried and Steve the True might have more luck, if we want to gamble our hit points.

I'd rather not.

>go confront the lich!
Might as well.
Maybe give Carmen the sword of chima?

Steve's gotta keep the spear and aegis though.

How's the charge on our sparky gem?
>>
I think we should pick off the cultists one at a time before we confront the lich. Ultimately they may be a source of information. If we use the nightshade potion we can even disguise ourselves as one of the cultists and attempt to gain more information. We should use the compass to locate the female one and fuck her up.

The key question here is if the lich is evil or not. We can even ask the compass where "r" is, if she is located in the liches room then we know the lich was the demon hunters friend. If the lich is decidedly evil we can try throwing the anti magic hammer at the lich heart before confronting him. Also as skeletons are inherantly magical I think the magic hammer is better for brick then the sword

We don't have to do all of this but we should do some of it before the final encounter
>>
>>2536787
This is a good plan. The cultists are undeniably bad for everybody, so we should at least try to take out one of them.
>>
>>2536852
>The cultists are undeniably bad for everybody
True.
But are they good for loot?
Are they?

They are, probably.
>>
As it stands, after using the cordial and rearranging equipment, these are the commands:

- Use the compass to locate R.
- Use the compass to locate one of the cultists.
- Have Steve steal the lich's crystal
- Have The Brick destroy the lich's crystal.
- Use the Nightshade Special to disguise a party member as one of the cultists.
- Hunt down the cultists one by one.
- Go through the last door and confront the lich.

In what order do you want to carry out these commands?

>>2536510
Malacrythe and Carmen discussed the lich here: >>2536329
>>
>>2537789
I have this lingering fear that the lich is the lesser of a few evils and destroying its phylactery might not be the smartest thing at the moment. Part of me wants to just storm the last door and see what's there because the suspense is killing me. I would also support jumping one of the cultists but that could go wrong pretty fast.

What do the rest of you anons think?
>>
>>2537789
> Use the compass to locate one of the cultists.

the female one, after carmon can nightshade the others
>>
>>2538029
I am in agreement but I dont think the cultists are very powerful.

>>2538141
Alright, let's see if the Compass can locate "the female cultist", and if she's in the lich's lair then I guess we're SOL.

>>2538492
She would wave to have had to phase through the magic barrier, the ogres never saw them. And if she is in good company of the lich then we know the lich is a bad guy after all

You hand it off to Carmen instead. Under normal circumstances, going around swinging a blazing claymore in the middle of combat would be quite far from her comfort zone, but someone's got to do it.

CARMEN: "So I just say the magic words and it catches fire? I wonder if I could use this on stage as a makeshift pyrotechnics rig. Okay, here I go: multi-pronged marketing!"

On to the next part of your plan: tracking down the cultists. Searching for all three of them didn't work, so you decide to narrow your search down to one of them. You pick the female cultist so that Carmen, the only one of your party who speaks their language, will be able to use the Nightshade Special to impersonate her afterwards.

AVA: "Compass of Locating, point me to the female cultists. You know, the Hermione Granger-looking one."

The compass immediately picks up on the cultist's location. Based on the needle's movement, it seems your target is also on the move. However, you can't tell what floor she's on.

Given this, you feel confident that the cultist in question is currently within the zone highlighted in green on the dungeon map. She may move again, though, and you don't know which of the other cultists are with her, if any.

What will you do?

>Whats your plan?
Knock 'em out and tie them up with an x71, I guess. Originally this plan was just to get them out of the way and slow down the breaking of the seal until we figured out whose side it was best to be on. You do make a good point, though. We only have enough jails for one, and if Dia- I mean Malacrythe of Eristhenia can make a skeleton key, somebody else might be able to make one out of the jailskellies and free Hermione, or else she might be able to hinder us with her magic.

Shit, this dungeon is corrupting us. I was hoping we could just get them out of the way long enough to fix this place and then they would turn back to normal non-glowing eye printing, but you do raise a good point in favor of killing them all.

Let's get someone else's opinion before we kill them. I think we should just tie them all up as best as we can and storm that final door, but I'm just one IP out of 13 and the game will be fun either way.

When the female cultist wakes up to everyone playing dead and carmon (in disguise) we attempt to fool HER into thinking this one cultist overcame our party. On second thought, you decide to take the KO'd cultist along with you, plus the three additional skeletons, now named Belladonna, Desdemona, and Amy (you're still working on that last one). It seems like you'll be able to keep better track of her if she's with you, and no one else will be able to free her behind your back. Of course, if you ever decide to throw her back in the slammer, your skeleton friends should be able to handle that on their own, just so long as no one ambushes them.

You're pretty happy with what you come up with.

Lacrimosa is decked out as the leader of the group with a magick crystal axe, an ethereal cowl of ash, a shield with an arcane eye crest, and a helmet at accentuates her cheekbones. It's a striking look for your right-hand skeleton, sure to strike true terror into the hearts of your foes!

Meanwhile, Persephone has a dashingly mysterious cloak and hood, marking her as the skeletal party's rogue, and she dual-wields heavy crossbows. You're not actually certain how that works, but it sure looks cool!

Oh, and the rest of the skeletons got whatever else was lying around. You may have been playing favorites just a little.

The problem of Hermione the cultist remains. Until now, you've put off deciding her fate due to the party's conflicting feelings on the matter, but something needs to be done before you cross the final threshold.

AVA: "I vote we kill her now. We can't afford to waste three skeletons guarding her."

STEVE: "I dunno, Ava. That just feels wrong to me."

AVA: "Then what's your brilliant plan?"

STEVE: "We could give her the Nightshade Special and transform her into a bedridden old lady. I don't think she'd be much of a threat like that."

CARMEN: "Or we could exile her to Elfland with the Sigil of Warping. Out of sight, out of mind, right?"

THE BRICK: [shuts eye; puffs up chest]

STEVE: "Oh yeah, the ogres might be willing to mind her for a little while."

MALACRYTHE: "If you're feeling squeamish about executing prisoners, we could also leave her in the custody of Pyradyne. That's not to say that Pyradyne wouldn't potentially eat her, but at least the blood's not on your hands."

What will you do?

————————

Since this has also been a point of contention, I'll wait for others to voice their thoughts on Hermione's fate as well.

That said, I will be heading to bed shortly, and won't be able to update Fungeon Crawl until around 4:30 PM PST tomorrow (I'll be able to answer questions, though). I will take commands regarding these matters until that time, and after that we'll probably begin the final act of this quest. Thank you all for playing!

The Sigil of Warping can transport one thing at a time to Elfland, though the the time and place of arrival tends to vary. According to Constance's records, she used the Sigil mostly to send letters to her penpal. Using it on something larger, like a human, may place strain on the Sigil, but it should work at least once.

While you're in the soul crystal room, you decide to sweep up the remains of the lich's soul crystal and save them for later. They seem inert now, but perhaps they still possess a lingering trace of magic. Also, they're the literal shattered fragments of a broken heart, and there's no way Malacrythe is going to pass up on the opportunity to acquire something as melancholy-sounding as that.

CARMEN: "We can't watch over her ourselves right now, but we were wondering if you'd be willing to keep her captive for the time being."

ORION: "We'd be quite happy to, my friends. I feel we still owe you for finding us that Mr. Gold."

ROOD: "Sensible."

CROIX: "If the lich's time draws nigh and its gem is shattered, then we will consider our request for its elimination satisfied. We will gladly contribute to this battle however we can."

CROIX: "I possess a great bounty of magic that you may find useful. With your permission, I can raise a blessed shield between you and the demon."

CARMEN: "That sounds great. Oh, and do you have any healing spells?"

CROIX: "Naturally."

CARMEN: "Perfect; we're almost out of potions."

Put Ava into the position to backstab the demon immediately.
Hide shooters and mages behind the skeletons with shields.
Prepare the lightning stone but don't use it until it's confirmed it can hit. The stone is effectively one-use in this fight so make it count.
Diane is to prepare to raise the cultist to replace any destroyed skeletons.
The Brick, Carmen and Steve should alpha-strike the demon the moment it materializes.

You arrange your forces for the final battle. The moment it breaks out of that statue, you’ll hit it with everything you’ve got all at once. And if that doesn’t work…

…you’ll figure that out if it comes to it.

As the point of no return draws ever closer, you each turn to your individual duties and thoughts.

As the resident rogue, you have backstab duty. It’s a dangerous position, where the rest of the party will be unable to support you if something goes wrong, but the backstab damage should be worth it. Besides, you could probably stand to have some time alone to sort out your thoughts; it’s been a while now, but the crow’s words still nag at you. Come to think of it, this whole adventure has been a lot of stress for you, really. When it’s all done, you think you’ll spend a bit of your share of the reward on a nice vacation. You just hope this demon drops some worthwhile loot.

Bearing the Arms of Truth, you stand ready on the front lines. Despite your holy equipment, however, you’re overcome with a sense of dread. You’ve fought statues and skeletons and goblins and even a couple dire werepigs back on the farm, but a world-ending demon seems way out of your league! But your friends are counting on you, and you never let your friends down. Well, okay, maybe you let them down every once in a while, or even most of the time, but you do always try your best. Just think: what would Laval say in a situation like this?

”Kids, don’t forget to scan in your Legends of Chima® Legend Beast Card in Legends of Chima® Online to unlock an exclusive Legend Beast mount! But always ask your parents’ permission before going online.”

You know, maybe you’ll try coming up with your own motivational speech next time.

Carmen
You light up the Sword of Elemental Fury, prime the voltstone, take your place in the vanguard, and wonder how you ended up cross-classing from bard to fighter. You don’t particularly mind taking a break from having to constantly improv appropriate lyrics in the middle of battle, or from the rest of your party’s constant, unconstructive criticism of your under-appreciated musical stylings, but it has been a while since you last got to sing. What sort of song would work for this battle anyway? The only thing that comes to mind is ‘Free Bird’.

CARMEN:
“If you find a bird trapped somewhere,
you should go and set it free.
Birds don’t like to be in cages,
‘cause they’re usually flying around, you see.
But if I found a bird and—“

On second thought, that’s probably in poor taste.

While everyone else fusses and frets over the imminent possibility of their deaths, you busy yourself with getting an eyeful of this exquisite corpse! You’ve never seen such a perfect specimen in your life! The flowing, unkempt, black hair that suggests both passion and brooding in equal measure; the perfectly positioned scar crossing over a glowing eye; the striking black and white garb, accentuated by the bold splash of red on the back—a find like this is once in a lifetime, though maybe not your lifetime. Oh, if only you didn’t already have five skeletons under your command. Perhaps it’s time you kicked Amy off the squad…

The Entombed is protecting her, if only for her healing skill.
Gank that bitch.

Is Malacrythe able to revive the lich or somehow use her skeleton? Because that could be a strong ally. We also have parts of the phylactery, as far as i remember, maybe they're useful for that.

>>2552268
I agree on ganking the healer. Also, i see a book behind her, I wonder if it contains the spell used to seal off the entombed...

Maybe we could spare a skeleton to circle around to gank her during the melee?

>>2553024
aw, there're actually 7 books in the room
>>2549145
i doubt we're lucky enough to find the right one. But Malacrythe is currently near two of them, I'd try to k.o. the paladin and then maybe then give a look at them

MALACRYTHE:
The Legiend of The Chronocler: The Quest for Makuta's Sword: Chapter Zero (it is actually Chapter 95 but this is a flashed back): The Twoo Brothers

Onced Upon a Time, it was two Brothers which were also Gods, the first named Mata Nui and another named Makuta. Mata Nui was of the brothers the oldest one, and he was a Great Guy. He was full of the right and justous to the Common man and the Uncommon man and Even Unto the Secret Rare Man. And so everyone loved Matanui and it was into the good.

But the Little, Brother, Makuta, was not loving Mata Nui because he was jeloust. His eyes were green with Envy )except not literallously because they were actually RED because Makuta was EVIL but no one knew this yet. this is called Fourshadowing.” and he hated that Everyone never had any time to him because they were all up on Mata Nui All The Time and never giving him the times of day, not even at night. Under Everyone’s eyes, he was just the junior god brother

So one Day Mautaka came to hatch a wicked thoughtling towards his Big Brother and—“

The situation is grim. Steve’s down, the skeleton squad is on its last member, Croix is undoing all the damage you managed to inflict, and most of you are one hit away from death. You’re running out of both time and options, and your hopes of victory are quickly fading, but it’s at times like this that a bard is needed most of all.

You take out Ken’s sheet music and give it a last read-through. When Ken gave it to you, he asked you to use it to inspire your nakama-tachi (whatever that means) in their moment of need. Well, if there was ever a moment of need, this is it.

It’s time for the grand finale.

And that concludes Round 5 of Fungeon Crawl. Round 6 will begin with the second half of this sequence of events, so commands are currently closed while I work on that.

Having said that, there's a certain part of the next set of posts that will take extra preparation. Though I would like to have Round 6 ready within the next few days, it could take longer. Either way, when Round 6 does begin, I will link to it in /lg/.

I've had a lot of fun running this quest over the last couple months, and I hope it's been entertaining so far. Once again, thank you for playing!

Sorry for the belated response! During the recent image posting breakdown, it did occur to me that I should have a backup plan in case this site ever crashes for good. For now, I've started a Twitter account which I'll try to keep active with pictures and the like (the username is @LegSlemt). Also, as >>2555587 said, I post in the Lego General from time to time as well.
