Character info pastebin in progress: http://pastebin.com/iB0tb7rz
Dice odds for best of 3: http://pastebin.com/994WTT3g

General rules:

There is a 10 minute voting period after each post. Non-contradictory votes will be combined as best as possible.
Write-ins for all votes are always welcome and encouraged. They may not all make it into the post or be altered to fit in, but I'll do my best to at least try to address the spirit of the write-in.

Very important or contentious votes may be redone in a stricter voting system as circumstances warrant.

Combat mechanics involve three rolls of 1d100, taking the best, and using the base accuracy and crit ranges of the the PTU system, roughly, but the 'turn order' will be more like the anime, where sometimes you can do a few moves in a row or be hit by a combo of moves yourself, all depending on circumstances. Stronger moves tend to take more time and have more cooldown than weaker moves and also may leave you open to an interrupt, so beware of that timing. Speed is more important for closing ground, intercepting, and other things and doesn't necessarily mean going first.

Pokemon and trainers are unique, and may have certain specializations, skills, or other things that the video-game mechanics might not allow. Some examples: That kung fu Bellsprout in the anime, that crystal Onix, or a Roggenrolla that can fly. Herb's perception skills, pokemon knowledge, context clues in general, and other things will hopefully come into play to avoid completely unfair, unforeseeable bullshit, but expect more bullshit from more advanced trainers.

Call me out on a mistake and receive a suggestive picture, mostly likely a butt.

Pokemon:
Gobble (Munchlax)
Mace (Roggenrola)
Belladonna (Roserade)
Dice (Croconaw)
Sorbet (Vulpix)

Location: Akaneki, at an out-of-the-way forested location close to Laki's parent's place

Recently: You found a Cubone that took Laki's pole hostage, and negotiated a trade. You called Keira to have a catch-up.
>>
>>2516480
Get out of the rain Keira!

Also, I want to visit the Bug temple on Opala.
>>
Keira is for HUGS but also good for FUGS.
>>
I'm only going to be homeless for about a day, managed to sign a lease on an apartment. Tomorrow is going to suck though.
>>
>>2516499
But she’d have to change her whole life around and become like a fertility priestess.
>>
>>2516514
Oooh nooo~ Herb and Kiera use fertility rituals to make Hana viable how could we ever adapt?

Alternatively Laki becomes fertility +++ and has enough kids for everyone.
>>
You hesitate for a moment. You have faith that Keira knows what she’s doing, but your understanding is that the mountain is very holy and gets more so the higher you climb. Besides that, climbing mountains is supposed to be dangerous.

But you can hear the desperation and yearing in her voice and see it in her eyes. She’s searching so hard for answers. “If you think you need to do it, then you should. Listen to your heart.”

Keira takes in your words and closes her eyes for a second. The way the wind is picking up, you worry a little that she might not hear you.

“But you don’t have to go alone.”

She look up at the peak. You can see some storm clouds slowly forming. “I’ve been depending on my pokemon to take me this far. I don’t want to impose on them for the last bit of the trip.”

“I meant, we could go with you. After some good warm meals, together.”

She looks back at the pokedex screen. It feels like she’s staring right into your eyes. “Herb, this is really risky.”

“All the more reason to have good friends helping each other out.”

She thinks again. The wind picks up and she has to hold onto her mask. “No.”

“Are you sure?”

“I meant no to the climb.” She says. “At least, for now. I have other places I can search for answers. I shouldn’t go to the top unless it’s the last place I know to look.” She says, nodding her head to her own reasoning as it comes out. “Umm, I can still get that meal though, right?”

“Of course.” You smile warmly.

“I’ll see you soon, then.”

That makes your heart leap with joy, but you still blurt something dumb out. “Wait! What about your journey for answers? Shouldn’t you do that first?”

She smiles. “Yup. See you soon! Let me know if you go to another island. Okay?” She starts packing up cheerfully. The wind almost takes away a tarp she had before she catches it.

Yup? What is she....oh! “All I can promise is good food.” You say.

“But you just invited me to your harem!” She pouts.

Your eyes go wide and your face goes red. You thought she understood you were just joking around! Oh boy, oh jeez. “I, uh-” calm down, Hana will probably be happy but-

“Herb! I’m joking back!” She giggles hard. “But I do miss you. And everyone else.”

The call is just about to end, and you were planning call Valerie right after.

“Well, Hana’s saved you a spot.” You wink. “And I don’t think Laki would say no. But are you ready to be a fertility priestess?” You lay it on a little thick, but Keira is one of those people you trust enough to be goofier than usual in front of.

“Herb! Stop!” She playfully pushes at the screen. “You’re worse than my bunkmate before I left.” She giggles, but it slowly dies down. “Although, she was pretty serious towards the end.”

“Heh, well, see you soon.” You jump the conversation before that break becomes too long.

“See you soon.” She smiles again.

You call up Valerie.

“Herb!” She answers after a bunch of rings. Her long luxurious hair is in mid-combing. “How’s it going?”

You see that she’s just about to go to bed for the night.

Valerie fills you in on the latest. There isn’t that much new since the last time you talked, but she says she’s had a long day and it’s nice just to vent a little about it.

“And then, she had the poor Squirtle wear it!”

“That monster!” You blurt out. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t talk bad. I don’t know her. That story just really soured my diary!”

Valerie laughs. “Herb, if I told any of the girls here about you I don’t think they’d believe me. And don’t worry about badmouthing her. Trust me, she deserves it. It’s actually nice to hear you as upset as I was.”

You chat a bit more. She’s really proud of her Pikipek’s quick thinking when there was an accidental screw up in her routine. She tripped over her dress, and the little pokemon flew up and tried to save her from falling. It wasn’t strong enough, of course, but it slowed her down long enough for her to pose and look casual as she slowly lowered to the ground. It looked intentional.

“It’s moments like that that make it all worthwhile.” She says. “Oh yeah! There was a scout for talent to bring for the festival on Eelilee coming up. Apparently the dancing girls had to cancel. Something about the grass temple disciplining a bunch of their female apprentices for trying to lure in boys and dress them up. I don’t know what that was about but I guess it’s a Mewori thing, but it sounded like they were competing like it was a status symbol.”

You fill her in on what you’ve been up to, and she returns the favor of being sympathetic to just listening. You tell her about Cubone, which she says sounds adorable and she mentions she's always liked them. You tell her about Laki's family, to which she asks a lot of follow ups about how the whole thing works with Hana there and how it sounds like things are really getting serious. You tell her about Keira coming back and she's very relieved you were 'able to talk some sense' into her.

"I had half a mind of sending Mr. Schwibbles to go kidnap her." She jokes. You don't laugh.

You look up as the call is winding down, and Cubone has gone missing.

“Sorbet, what happened? Where did Cutebone go?” Cubone! It’s pronounced Cubone. That’s going to be hard to fix that habit.

Sorbet points towards the push and you look just in time to see it’s foot vanish.

“Did something scare it?” You ask.

Sorbet doesn’t look sure, but she does look up at the sky. A bird pokemon?

“Cubone!” You call out to it as you approach to try not to spook it too much. “Cubone, come back. Are you hungry? Is-”

That’s when you feel a massive gust of wind hit you. For a second you think you’re going to be attacked, but it shoots right by you. Under any other circumstances, you think you’d be in a position to act even with it going by you so quickly. But by a stroke of terrible luck, you find yourself stumbling over an exposed tree root and hitting the dirt.

The Flying pokemon that went by dives right into the bush Cubone hid in, and you hear a terrible sound. Leaves and shrieks explode outward.

Sorbet runs to your side, looking incredibly puffy and giving off an icy mist just from freight. She motions back, encouraging you to run so that she can run with you.

You’re still feeling a bit disoriented from the fall and have no idea what things look like in the bush, but the sounds give you some ideas you don’t want to even think about. Every millisecond counts.

You don’t know if you can convince Sorbet to go into the bush, but you believe she’d follow attack orders without a problem.

You really wish you had your pan right about now.

You rush forward. “Sorbet! Use Confuse Ray on the bush!” You hope she’s fast. You’re diving in. The heavy winds pick up and seem to push you on, giving you a little extra confidence you sorely lack without your pan.

The second you see Cubone in the bush, a branch you move to balance yourself cracks and gives way without warning. You barely touched it!

But the cause becomes clear after. You narrowly avoided getting a beak in the face from that surprisingly large pokemon. It brings the beak back, angry.

Cubone’s helmet is shattered. She’s holding it together over her face with both hands, but bits are falling off despite it’s effort. It looks like it tried to hold it together even at the expense of taking some harsh attacks.

“Can’t we talk about this? Aren’t you hungry?” You quickly try to offer. But that seems to set it off and advance onto Cubone. It is hungry, but hungry for Cubone!

Just then, Confusion hits it on the side! Even through the bush, Sorbet managed to land it just barely.

Now’s your chance. You got lucky not getting a faceful of beak or talons, and the way you’re positioned you really can’t move well in the bushes, but that giant Mandibuzz is momentarily distracted and confused. You might have a chance to get out of this without you or Cubone or Sorbet getting hurt, as long as you’re lucky and smart.

Cubone looks like it’d be difficult to move without tearing it’s arms from it’s face and causing it to drop most of that shattered skull helmet.

>Kick Mandibuzz out towards Sorbet. Time to fight!
>Pick up Cubone and keep moving, call Sorbet to come with you

[We seem torn!

As a head's up, if that Mandibuzz landed that crit, Herb would have got cracked in the head pretty hard and stunned. I was intending that to be a warning that this bird isn't messing around and may attempt to do permanent damage if given the opportunity.

Let's do a revote. 5 minutes, not quote only, and in the event of a draw, the first post voting for one of those tied options breaks the tie even if it's a repeat voter.

Will Herb hoof the Mandibuzz out of the bush, or concentrate on protecting Cubone. Protecting is a lot easier but comes with the downside of risking getting hurt.

Mandibuzz shakes off it’s confusion and pushes through the brush to get at Cubone.

“Cubone!” You jump out and cover it.

And that’s when the pain starts.

For half a split second, you’re proud that you recognized it as Fury Attack. But the horrible stabbing pains and sharpness of it kill all thoughts in your head. You aren’t sure what you’re doing, if you’re balling up or struggling. All you can remember is the hurt. A cold feeling rushes over you and you still don’t know what’s happening; if it’s because of something to do with your body reacting to pain and bleeding or the if Sorbet is attacking.

The attacks keep landing on you, over and over and over again. You can’t take it anymore. Regret fills you each time. Why did you come here? Why did you put yourself in a position to feel all this pain? Why won’t you do something to make it stop.

It hurts!

But the huddling warm spirit you’re wrapping yourself around makes you push on. All you know right now is that you can’t let it be harmed. You can't give up only to have this thing take your place.

[Alright! Let’s have some fun. Herb’s going to have some sort of injury here. What would you like to see?

Get it, See?

Since it’s a big decision, I’ll leave off voting for a few minutes on it so you guys can discuss. Will Herb have a series of small scars on his back? A cool scar on his face? Lose an eye and need a replacement? A scar on his head that prevents hair from growing in a line and forcing him to style it in a combover? Somehow lose his little toe?

Since I feel like I dropped this fight on you without warning I wanted to lay off a bit on punishments for poor dice, but I feel at this point, something had to happen. So I’ll let players discuss and then we’ll vote in a few.]
>>
>>2517257
Considering he was huddled over Cubone in a ball shape, I would put the injuries on either his back, arms, or legs.

I would make it noticeable, but not disfiguring, since Sorbet was (hopefully) able to work up the courage to attack the Mandibuzz.
>>
>>2517257
Small scars all along his left back side, shows where the Mandibuzz was trying to get to the Cubone.
>>
>>2517257
Punctured Lung.

It’s not a permanent thing, and can even be a small, minor hole (down to like a pin hole like my dad had). It’s something scary enough to be taken seriously by others but can be fixed with bed rest (and accelerated by aura techniques).

With pain meds we can have Herb thrown off his aura for a while, forcing him to not be able to rely on his healing for some time. Maybe a small addiction arc.

Personally though, scars seem cheap and boring. Whatever we go with though, I’d like a chance to try and heal it by taking aura. Maybe steal it from the Mandibuzz?
>>
scars on the back and sides make the most sense, though a scar on the face would be cooler; sadly doesn't make much sense.

by the way Gobble that eye joke was still too soon; still a little salty about that shit.

Puncture wounds on the back, maybe a few scratches
>>
>>2517257
>>2517270
To build up on it a little I guess, lots of shallow to deep punctures along his arms and side. Deeper ones kinda look like bullet wounds. Dangerously close to the lungs, stopped by his ribs etc etc.
>>
it's a shame this was feeling like a good thread at first with the chatting with Keira and Val then it went to shit out of nowhere. Didn't enjoy the "fight" at all, wouldn't even call it a fight.
>>
But really, I’d like something with more short-term impact but not permanent damage. Cosmetic scars where they won’t be seen much seem like cheating. Let’s actually hinder Herb for a while.

Put Herb on pain killers or a crutch for a while, but no permanent damage, which seems extreme.
>>
>>2517293
Yeah, oh well. Does seem a little strange that Sorbet hasn't tried to help yet, of all our pokemon she seems the most likely to try and take control of a wild encounter fight.
>>
>>2517257
Blood loss nasty scars the punctured lung. Likely alot of torn flesh.
>>
>>2517301
She may have and she's also young and probably terrified
>>
>>2517295
Scars may seem superficial but that's only thinking about it physically. Herb won't be trusted on his own for quite some time. It's a reminder whenever the girls and mons see them. Shits going to be fucked for awhile even if the actual wounds are superficial.
>>
>>2517307
But also scars are icky...
And, again, permanent damage seems extreme.
>>
>>2517293
Yea definitely got heavy out of nowhere and then the dice fucked us worse.
>>
>>2517307
The gashes to get those scars may not be lethal but they'll hurt. Infection could kill, blood loss could kill. He may have serious back problems lack of mobility. If the bird gets really deep we could see punctured intestine s or a damaged liver.

>>2517310
I don't necessarily want permanent damage but a wild animal is mauling him. It can't just be a few scapes those pecks shattered bone
>>
>>2517310
There's no way he's walking out of this with no scars. If he has a punctured lung there's going to be scarring from where it hit. Herb just ate a fury attack. He's lucky he ain't dead.
>>
It's almost like crit rules are stupid.
>>
Fractured ribs might be good. Painful, non-scarring, it’ll take some time to either heal or for Herb to figure out how to heal them. It’s something you can get from blunt force that wouldn’t scar.
>>
>>2517324
Eye don't see a problem. It's Pokemon quest tradition. The drama is fun it's neat character development and no one is going to die

>>2517327
Horribly painful but an appropriate injury
>>
>>2517327
It'd be nice to get a chance at learning how to self heal, yeah.

The attacks just don’t relent. You feel sharp pains all over your body and don’t know which are superficial and which are serious. Maybe they’re all serious. Maybe none of them are and you’re just being a wuss. You don’t know right now. All you know is that you can’t stand this pain!

Cold crawls up your back again, then the sound of fierce, sharp growling and hissing. You turn your head and yours eyes slowly risk a peek and you see icy blue tails surrounded by an increasingly heavy mist. Sorbet! She finally came to help!

That horrible angry noise she makes causes the Mandibuzz to hesitate. But as it discovers that the mist she’s giving off doesn’t seem to bother it, it pecks at her. She flinches back, scarred.

She’s an Ice type, but you guess she’s shaken. Coming into the bushes was probably something she had to work up towards.

Now that you’re getting your senses back, besides pain that is, you might be able to figure a way out of this mess.

If you’re getting a scar with the attitude that it’s cool and tells a story, it’s more of a reward than an injury, isn’t it? It’s like saying:

“Okay, vote on what the damage is guy.”

>”Herb becomes more handsome and cooler!”

Instead, Herb should have to be on a crutch or bedrest for a while.

I like that while scars might be considered cool after the fact they are not in anyway fun to acquire. Especially on the scale he just did, it'll take a while to heal lacerations like he endured. He'll be in pain for plenty of time, he'll reopen his wounds by moving in certain ways. It'll won't be fun to heal in the meantime for Herb, and the real cost will be what he does to his love ones when they see him torn and bloody.

No, we chose to run in after a pokemon, we chose to protect that pokemon with our body, you can't be upset about the dice because this outcome was always a possibility. Something like this happens when someone is self-sacrificing like Herb. We can't expect for lucky to always be in our favor. I hope we take this as a opportunity to grow. Cause Herb always believes bad luck is around the corner. That's why he has the Bad Luck trait. So, he knew that something like this could happen and he still helped anyway. It's a good quality in a person, but also dangerous.

“Sorbet! Blizzard!” You yell out.

Sorbet burrows her feet in and summons a storm of elemental fury. Harsh, freezing winds whip at the arrogant Mandibizz. It first assumes it won’t be hurt by that weather since it’s able to ignore the harsh cold from around Sorbet’s body, but it’s proven wrong quickly.

The Mandibuzz is about to peck out when the winds force it to guard with it’s wings, and still freeze over despite that. It gets covered in ice. No last ditch efforts are able to save it here.

When it’s over, the huge, scary pokemon that caused you so much pain and suffering looks helpless, scared, and hurt. It’s frozen solid and out of the fight. Slowly, it loses consciousness.

“Thanks, Sorbet.” Your voice doesn’t quite sound right. You glance at Cubone. She’s huddled close against you, holding tight. The skull helmet pieces are all lying about it’s feet, and both hands grasp at your shirt and pull it’s face against you. It looks so helpless and scared. It slowly looks up.

“Are you okay?” You wheeze.

It nods, causing the built up tear in it’s eye to run down it’s face. You can only really see the top half of it’s face, but it’s beginning to back up.

“Cute.” You mutter. Or maybe you just think it to yourself. Either way, you're glad you got to see it's face.

“Soft Hands!” Laki’s voice calls out. Sorbet scatters through the brush towards it as fast as you can. You assume she’s going to get help. You blink, but apparently a lot of time passes because when you open your eyes, you’re being pulled out of the bush.

“Soft Hands! Oh...Oh no. What happened?” Her voice is oozing with worry and concern. That puts a small bit of panic, if you’re being honest. You worry about losing consciousness or just being to distracted from pain to do much else right now, so you try to think of something to say quickly just in case.

“Don’t hurt Mandibuzz.” You tell Laki before you cough.

Oh wow. Coughing hurts!

Her eyes narrow towards the frozen pokemon. You just confirmed to her that it was responsible. But all of that hostility melts when she looks back into your eyes. She morphs back into a kindly, maternal angel holding you in her lap and bosem. “I called help. You’ll be okay.” She holds you rightly. Her voice and body is soft and soothing. "I'm here now. You're safe." She assures you and herself again. You believe it, though.

“Thanks. And you too, Sorbet. I think I’d be really in trouble if it weren’t for you.”

Sorbet wags some tails for a second, then she looks down, ashamed. She was too scared to come into the bush until after you got hurt. You displayed selflessness to save that strange pokemon, and she let you and it be in danger. Still, you pet her head. You couldn’t blame her for that, could you?

“You’re not in trouble now?” Laki asks as if she didn’t want to know the answer.

“It looks worse than it is.” You tell her, feeling the adrenaline slowly fade.

“You better be telling the truth, Soft Hands. I won’t forgive you if you go to the next world without even giving me and Hana children.” Her threat has no force in her voice. “Can you heal it?” Her hands cautiously try to pull up your shirt, but she gives up after realizing how much she’d have to move you around.

“I’ll try.” You say, trying to concentrate.

“Hold on.” She grabs your crystal and hands it to you. “What else can I do?”

Something to tell Mandibuzz:

Groudon and Kyogre didn’t fill the world with berries and fish for you to eat people’s babies.

Also, I hope this drives Herb to follow his aura development with focus.

Maybe we can eventually learn to do stuff like use Dragon Dance on ourself since that seemed to be hinted at when we were training it with Dice.

“Help make sure it’s quiet, and I’ll try my best.” You wince.

“You telling me to shut up?” Laki tries to offer a joke. “I’ll keep everything quiet. Just be okay, okay? I don’t think it’s serious but it’s hard to tell. And I can see what you were doing, putting yourself in danger. You always do that! Can’t you be a little more selfish? And-” Laki has a moment of self-awareness.herself. “Sorry.“ She holds your head against her chest. “Whatever you need, I’m here.”

You can hear her heartbeat. But that’s nice. It’s soothing.

You’re hurt, tired, and not exactly in a good emotional state, but you can fix it. You can always fix it, right? You’ve managed okay so far.

You close your eyes and look deep within yourself. This is strange territory for you. It’s hard to do any aura activity in a stressful situation, and you’re used to examining and messing with others auras. With your own, it’s hard to get an overall view.

But you let yourself ride the rivers of your aura and energies, finding your way through them and understanding yourself better.

At the end of it, you find your pain has eased quiet a lot, and that you’ve come to now yourself better.

But you just can’t stay awake any longer.

At least, you now have a decent idea of your injuries. You don’t need a mirror. You can feel the disturbance in your aura well enough to tell the parts of your body that aren’t quite right.

You’d best describe it as....

>Lots of superficial wounds along your left arm and side, where Mandibuzz tried to get at Cubone
>A tiny lung puncture that will need lots of gentle care
>Somehow, a minor leg injury that will require a crutch for awhile

So Gobble, what is it that Herb learned about himself? Like, does he know what types his aura is?

And what would have happened if we had gotten a mediocre roll or had to go with the 19? I know we chose failure mitigation blue but that was a tough spot.

Did we actually manage to heal ourself at all?
>>

Is becoming a fertility priestess like getting a notary license where you can do it on top of whatever else you’re doing or is it like playing for a football team where you can’t be part of the ghost team and the fertility team and have to sign with one of them exclusively?

Because it’s an important difference and I don’t feel it’s made clear.
>>
>>2517709
[Thanks! That really means a lot!]

>>2517720
>So Gobble, what is it that Herb learned about himself?
I wanted to leave that for a vote in the next session.
Like, does he know what types his aura is?
That'd be a fun thing to explore. I know how a lot of anons probably see it, but I'd love to see in detail justifications and any dissenting arguments.

>And what would have happened if we had gotten a mediocre roll or had to go with the 19?
Then I'd start considering a mini arc where it turns out Herb has an actual for realsies curse put upon him somehow. But yeah probably draining him down in his maximum aura reserves a tiny amount if you didn't have the failure mitigation, and now more just making him tired to the point where he misses a lot of time to recovery or is weak for a good while longer than normal. Maybe that might shake his confidence a little if it results in problems, but I doubt it unless that button gets pushed intentionally by someone.

>Did we actually manage to heal ourself at all?
Not in the usual sense so much as he's more efficiently directing his energies towards the healing process of his body. So basically speeding it up.

>or is it like playing for a football team where you can’t be part of the ghost team and the fertility team and have to sign with one of them exclusively?
It's that one. You don't want them doing deathly spirit stuff because it's like being a super midwife/priestess combo. And that's how the workaround works, because someone specializing in that, for the sake of the health of a mother and child, should have the most experience for their medical duties as possible. So banging is not only justified but really expected of you. They have a sort of reputation, even.
>>
>>2517816
Not sure what you mean by workaround but thanks for answering!

Ha, maybe Herb’s luck is him being both cursed and blessed at the same time, and they vie for dominance.

As for Herb’s aura, I feel normal is the best base. He’s got that adaptability to him. Add in some grass and you’ve covered most of the healing. You could argue that since his aura abilities are most similar to heal pulse, healing wish, and aura pulse, fighting and psychic should be in there some too, and I feel like that balance defines Herb pretty well.

So, right now we have normal, followed by grass, followed by fighting and psychic (the types of the meditation Pokémon even).

It’s hard to say much else since we haven’t been to many temples and learned what those types mean. But if there’s a couple details to add, I’d say that Herb seemed to have some sort of insight towards using dragon dance, and I think anyone would be hard pressed to find dark in his aura. Even the non-evil, sneaky kind of dark.

If Herb were represented by Pokémon, they’d be Sawsbuck and Medicham.

As for fairy type, I don’t see it as much as others seem to. He hasn’t really got the whole tricky thing they do.

[Nothing too crazy or needing any particular medical care other than rest and keeping it clean. I was picturing it as lots of skin gashes that will show scarring. Like when they're fully healed, they don't look bad individually, but with all of them together on one side it sort of tells the story and can be seen easily enough under good lighting. And while Herb won't have any major lasting injuries, he might have a sore spot he forgets about 98% of the time until he feels it poked or agitated. If anons were voting with a different picture in their head, please let me know.]

Well, I voted for the lung puncture since I don’t think looking cooler makes sense as a consequence. Herb’s already chosen to keep a scar before, (which I don’t really get) which contextualizes scars as more of a prize than a failure state.

I do hope Herb gets another shot at healing it before it sets in. Even if it doesn’t work, or works less than completely, (though I do hope it works) it’d be good healing experience.

>Like, does he know what types his aura is?
Straight up Fairy with maybe a dash of normal or grass, there isn't even really a question about it.

Fairy is the type for non-threatening kindness, and Herb absolutely OOZES good will from every pore of his body. We can and will hit something with a frying pan, but only in defense. As for the normal typing, my perspective on that is Herb is just a really, really fucking domestic guy. Cooking and fashion both seem normal-type to me with a leaning towards fairy.

Grass, I'm not so sure about. I'm only including that as a possibility because of how connected with life we are, but I don't really see it on that kind of level. Grass seems like a more concrete connection to health and wildlife, while we're more esoteric in that regard.

As far as Herb being dominantly normal type? I don't see that at all, in any way. The only reason I can really see for pushing that one is wanting to be involved with the normal temple in the story, but when I think about whether or not Herb necessarily jives with the ideals the old guy laid out, the answer is an pretty straightforward "Not really". Normal to me, for a Human, seems like the typing that is based on being hyper-aware of Human concerns and the Human condition. This could range from a guy who is just really generic (And therefore in touch with society.) or a guy who is really in-touch with his own individuality (In touch with himself.). Herb doesn't fit the bill on either count, so if we have normal typing, as I said, it should mostly just be out leaning towards human domestic concerns like fashion and cooking that no other typing could possibly care about.
>>
>>2518232
Nah, the normal thing for me isn’t about the temple, it’s about adaptability, and healing. Whatever situation Herb gets thrown into, he does pretty alright in. And he fosters that sort of adaptability and growth in the people close to him.

Also: Rest, Milk Drink, Softboiled, and Chansey are all normal-type. Herb is a healer who provides food and rest.

If you look at fairy type moves and Pokémon, you get a lot of stuff that is about seeming cute but actually being dangerous. Like baby-doll eyes, disarming voice, Mawile’s hidden mouth, or how jigglypuff will sing you to sleep. Or Sylveon’s life draining ribbons.
>>
>>2518244
I just have a different conception of what normal is. Normal seems to me less about any particular niche, and more about the concept of finding a niche and fulfilling it and of itself. Why is a Miltank normal? Not because it's based on the real world, but because it is focussed on being what it is regardless of other categories. Being normal is being a singular existence and a generic existence wrapped into one. Actually, this is sort of difficult to describe.

Normal typing insofar as it's related to the human soul for me seems like it should be related to being the pinnacle archetype of humanity, whether you adapt a purely humanocentric viewpoint or don't have a viewpoint at all in favor of cruising on your regular ol' human instincts.

I'm not super concerned about the theming of the types that the Pokemon show, because we're not a Pokemon. The issue up for debate is how a human interacts with and incorporates those types, and a human would by default have to do so in a different way than a Pokemon.

I think that if there were a Pikachu who was very concerned with what it is to be a Pikachu, that would be a normal leaning Pikachu. That's what being normal is.
>>
>>2517691
>A tiny lung puncture that will need lots of gentle care
>>
>>2518232
To counter your point, Herb is super in touch with society. He has been collecting shards like crazy. The islander improvement gang gave him kudos for assimilating to island culture so well. Herb goes out of his way to make up for any transgression he might not know about and have done. For example stepping on the snow to catch his mon, and then being tested and having to go on a spirit journey. If being Normal is being in tune to the Society around you then Herb is Normal.

Let it be said, I don't have an preference for which type his aura ends up being I think Fairy makes sense and I could see an argument for Normal and Grass. I just wanted to bring up points to support the definition you outlined.
>>
>>2518244
That kind of fits Herb perfect, Normal Fairy. Hes the nurturer care giver from normal and he "Soft Hands" totally not a threat but then he takes on dragons head on and doesn't afraid of anything.

Isn't Aura a psychic thing and hes a natural at it.

So Normal Psychic in the fairy egg group.

Problem Im having is that his aura has been mentioned in reference to types before but im blanking on when and what.
>>
>>2518351
His aura has been, clean, bright, and something like full of life, but not necessarily tied to any particular type. They just got the sense of how purehearted Herb is as a person.
>>
>>2518351
Aura stuff and meditation is tied to both psychic and fighting. Lucario is fighting, Heal Pulse and Healing wish are Psychic (Though I can’t emphasize enough that soft boiled and milk drink, which are used to feed and heal Pokémon outside of battle, are normal type), and meditite/medicham are psychic/fighting.

Considering how Herb keeps fighting wild Pokémon and his ability to understand a Pokémon’s thoughts by touching it, I’d say his aura is like 5% psychic and 5% fighting.

So,
60% normal
15% grass
15% fairy
5% fighting
5% psychic.

That’s what I’d give him.

Keira did say there was maybe fairy and grass in there.
>>
>>2518366
Maybe move 5% from normal to fairy, I dunno.

Frankly I’m surprised Gobble isn’t assigning the values.
>>
>>2518357
>>2518366
That's right, the fairy and grass stuff from Keira. There was also some sort of hidden fire beneath it. I had thought it was maybe dragon back then but that doesn't feel like it fits that well.

This is pretty close to where I would place it, only difference I would make is that Herb doesn't train to fight and his sense of discipline isn't martial and all pokemon fight.

50% Normal
16% Grass
16% Fairy
16% Psychic
~% Missing no.

I figured the hidden fire was fighting type.

It’d be a neat parrellel to Gobbo’s Focus Punch. And Herb has been working out and stepping up to confrontation and challenges.
>>
I wonder if Herb could learn Drain Punch.
>>
Herb is very strong, both mentally, emotionally and to an extent, physically. I'm not saying he'll win any strong man competitions or any street fights, but he takes a beating and doesn't back down. Maybe strong isn't the right word, I should say solid. Solid like cold hard steel, nothing much gets to him.

I'd say at the start of this journey Herb might have been more normal/fairy but he's got convictions now, he has people worth fighting and taking hits for, so he's changed. the Fairy type is still there because he is compassionate and empathetic, and he also cares deeply about his friends and Pokemon, but the things that define him as a normal type seem to have vanished, or maybe just diminished. He isn't a pushover anymore, he isn't just going along with what everyone else wants, and he's making active strides to become stronger in every sense.

Herb is a steel/fairy type
>>
>>2518516
If you think of his solidness as rock instead of Steel, he hits Normal,Fairy, and Rock, all the missing temples.

Though I still think fighting works better than rock or steel.

I don't really care what his aura is. I hope it's more a character defining moment for him. This is what Herb DOES. He helps people and Pokemon. It didn't go his way this time. Most times it won't.

Location: Akaneki, at an out-of-the-way forested location close to Laki's parent's place.

You didn’t have to see it in a mirror. You just felt it. You set the seeds for healing and know where they took.

You figure you’ll have a series of scars running up your arm and side. That’s where most of the pain was. You’re not doctor, but you don’t think anything too bad got hit. It feels like mostly flesh and bone. It’s just the sensation you have.

What’s strange is how comfortable you are with just leaving it at that. How you usually can’t relax until you know these things for certain. But in your current state, you trust your feelings as much as you’d trust a natural law.

You sort of remain vaguely aware of being carried. Maybe you were lucid the entire time and just forgot right after. Maybe you’re just concentrating too much on working to heal yourself and just weren’t paying attention. But you know you’re in a bed.

You decide to sleep and rest, not wanting to waste any more time than possible. But while you’re doing that, you suppose you can venture a little into meditation. Nothing that takes a lot of energy, but just a small amount that you can probably spare without causing any issues.

You left your mind and spirit wander a bit, just sort of letting things flow with the winds of your energy and the influences around you slowly waves you around like you’re floating in a gentle river.

You’re getting better at this. The pain should be distracting, but you guess you have some sort of painkiller because it feels distant and muted. It’s still there in the background, but it’s nothing you can’t handle.

You think back on the actions that put you here. How do you feel, deep down? You protected Cubone, but you got messed up for it. Do you feel heroic? Scared that you were so helpless? Foolish that you put yourself in a position where this could happen? Frustrated that such an unfair circumstance was dropped on you.

You feel good about yourself. Like you’ve cemented in yourself a level of confidence about who you are, and who you are is a good person. You were brave enough to do the right thing. Even if you wouldn’t have access to healing, it’d still be worth it. Cubone is safe.

There are a few bad feelings in there too of course. You were hurt and vulnerable and you did make others worry, but those feelings aren’t really dominant, despite what you thought. It was a frustrating situation and you did what you could.

But that sentence does speak to you. “Did what you could.” What you could do was take a beating. That wasn’t enough. You’ve been in these situations before and come out okay, but you always had your pan or something else to fall back on. You feel like the cost of being you is going to be injuries like this or hard work towards learning to defend yourself and others, or maybe even both. And that’s okay with you, although you’d prefer the second option.

With your feelings explored, at least on the abstract level, you feel more comfortable with your meditation.

What else do you want to look into?

You’re not really strongly committed to any particular action. You suppose you’ll let where your mind wanders be your guide. The first thing in your head is about your type, though. You suppose it makes sense to work on energy exercises last.

You don’t know how this works very well, and it’d be easier with a guide, but you figure it’s worth trying. You’ve been swimming in your own aura for awhile. But that’s what makes it hard to see. It’s like smelling yourself. It’s only going to be noticeable to you if it’s really strong.

There’s a lot swirling in there, and a lot that jumps out as you as being a foreign influence or just smaller aspects of yourself. You’re looking for the one or two that really encapsulate who you are as a person. Where your actions come from in your soul.
But how the types work is still not something you fully understand. You recall how there are different types of fire badges, for example. Each of those has a different way of thinking behind them.

Maybe it’s possible that two different people can have the same type but for different reasons. That must mean the aura you find yourself to be might also depend on how you see that type.

Or you might just be trying to justify convincing yourself it’s something specific because you want it to be that way. You’re not sure, but you intend to look deeply and find out.

What’s your primary and possibly only type?

You fall deep into yourself, looking at all the different aspects with you. There are all the colours there, to some degree or another. Some are stronger, some are weaker, but they all make up the tapestry of who you are.

It’s when all the colours combine that you see it. The normal white colour. Normal type.

It’s more than just being balanced, although that’s a big part of it. You adapt well to your circumstances, you take a little bit from each area of life without much favoritism for the most part. You’re weak to the direct assault of Fighting type social approaches because they’re so direct and overpowering to you. You do your best to be in tune with society, and even if you’re not a natural fit, you manage okay.

But that’s not all. There’s another one there. A few, actually. There’s an energetic and innovative spark, the playful but caring pink, the long term focus on growth and inward focus of green, the sturdy, unshakable foundation of stability even under fire of dark brown. Those are all there. But the one of those that’s currently strongest and taking the second place for typing is Fairy.

But that could change later. It’s a good, decent lead, but not out of sight of the others.

You feel like you’re learning a lot today. Next is to try to understand how to use your aura energy, and how best to use it.

Arceus and Regigigas are Normal. So, good company there.

Herb shares his Normal/Fairy distinction with Azuril, Igglybuff, Jigglypuff, Wigglytuff, and Mega Audino.

You feel like your energy reserves aren’t so much in one pool, as they are distributed among lots of smaller pools. At least, that’s the way it seems to you the more you get into it.

And there are some pools of energy you just never happen to access. You don’t know if that’s a subconcious thing that’s holding you back, or maybe a good instinct because those are important to keep filled, or something else, but at the very least, you want to explore it.

You try taking a little out of a small pool, then seeing if you feel any different. You don’t notice any big difference other than having that access and feeling the slow process of that pool beginning the process of slowly refilling itself. That’s a great sign! But you better not get too reckless. You move on to other tiny pools of energy within yourself, testing and exploring. You find that taking energy from some does affect you in certain ways, but don’t quite understand the reasons. You do make a mental note of which ones are okay to drain and which ones you think are best to leave alone.

And with that, you end up having some extra reserves of energy you normally wouldn’t be able to access. That leaves you just a tiny bit ahead of the game from where you started.

You focus again. If you didn’t have this extra reserve of energy you’ve found you can tap, you’d be way too tired to do this. But, maybe partially due to painkillers, you’re relaxed enough to try it. Whatever leftover energy from this you’ll put into healing, but you have no idea how much that’ll be.

From what you remember before, you had a lot of help focusing due to the special nature of the Normal temple. You doubt you’d be able to do anything too difficult, such as reaching out to someone far or someone you don’t feel a strong personal connection to at the moment, but who knows? Maybe you’ll surprise yourself.

Or maybe you don’t need to reach out to somebody. Maybe you can focus on a place or something else.

You think of Keira. She’s who you went to before, when you first tried this. She’s on the way so she should be closer than most, and she’s skilled in aura so she might be able to help if you need it.

And, really, you just plain miss her.

The path your spirit flies in is familiar. You see the string connecting you and her and follow it in the storm of energies and uncertainty that fog your vision. You mostly see just little bits of stray energy, but sometimes you also see bigger things that you zoom by without being able to really study.

Whoosh! You come to a sudden stop

“I know I’ve been asking a lot, spirits. But please. One more sign. I respected the peak of Eelilee, I’ve tried so hard to learn. I never complained when I was called up early to help with the dying. I’ve always dedicated myself to the calling. My whole life.” Her voice cracks. “Please. Just one more sign. Let me know the path I’m going down is the right one. Let me know if it’s wrong. Let me know what you think of me.”

There’s a deep, dark presence that you sense approaching from the distance, but it stops, circles, and eventually leaves while Keira pours her heart out into her prayer. You wonder if that has to do with you or not.

Keira gets up from kneeling, looking unsatisfied with the lack of an answer. She looks like she’s in a tiny cabin on a small ship. She begins to collect her prayer material and blow out candles.

>Say hi
>Arrange her prayer beads into a picture or sign before she turns around, then leave
>Move on to someone else you know
>Go after that dark presence. Maybe you can catch it and talk

Let her come to her own conclusions. We've chased off Dark Fug, our work here is done.

We really gotta chew out Fug for painting targets on our friends backs while being a coy shit about what it wants and needs.
>>
>>2519972

>>Say hi
I'm not entirely comfortable with this, as I'm worried Keira is eventually going to turn into our prophet, but we can't exactly leave her to suffer.

Also, may as well catch up and let her know our good-naturedness finally injured us in a bad way for a bit there.
>>
Not knowing how else to do it, you just say hi. “Hi.”

She jumps up and slams her head into the low shelf, causing small items to clank. Her hand holds the sore spot as she still quickly turns around.

“HERB!” She lights up. But she stops for a second, as if to examine you. Only after she’s satisfied that you are indeed Herb does she relax. “You look...different. Something’s off. Your form is better than last time but your presence is weaker.”

“My form?” You look over yourself. The tiny mirror in her cabin doesn’t have a reflection.

“It’s not important.” She waves the concern away. “What’s important is your timing. Herb. There’s no mistake. This is a sign. The third sign. Following you is my path.”

Maybe, but paths change. Maybe we're just a stepping stone to lead her through the river and onward to something else.

It'll be fun to hang out with her again, though. That's the important bit.
>>
>>2520063

>>
>>2520063
>Warn her about that dark presence
Also, suggest that if this is a sign, it doesn't necessarily mean she's supposed to follow Herb. Maybe she's meant to guide or teach him. It could mean anything, really.
>>
I'm curious why people aren't voting to ask for some aura power.
>>
>>2520104
More worried about other things, I'd guess. Chances are we won't be able to do most of what we're voting for before we lose focus, and she might not be able to help us like that. It'd burn some of our time if that were the case for no real benefit.
>>
>>2520111
I can see that. Though if the transfer did work we'd have more energy to spend talking.

By the way, Mega Audino can fire off pulses of calming energy and put people to sleep with a touch. Audino is a pokemon that's good at monitoring health, works at pokecenters, and would make a good healing pokemon for Herb to synergize with. Mega Audino has better defensive stats than even Dialga.

I wanna Audino.
>>
>>2520104
Aura vampirism doesn't seem cool.
>>
>>2520147
...that's how our healing works. By pouring our aura into others. It's just the same process but with Herb taking instead of giving for once.
>>
>>2520155
Exactly.
>>
>>2520164
But by that logic everyone who Herb heals is an uncool vampire on him.

It's like Kat said, you gotta be willing to treat yourself as important as you treat other people.
>>
>>2520173
No, Herb is offering freely, he's not asking to take.
Giving is not the same as taking. Nor is accepting something freely offered the same as asking to be given that same something.
>>
>>2520063
>Well, she’s a priestess and a trusted friend. If she says so, it must be true

“Did you feel that presence?” You ask. “I think it was the same one as before.”

Keira looks uncertain. “I think I did. I’ve been practicing. Looks like you have too.” She says, looking you over. “But it’s not around anymore, right?”

“No. I think it’s gone.” You say. “But I’m worried about it coming to you again.”

She smiles. “I’m not. Because you’re here.”

The way she looks up at you bothers you, causing yourself to blink and fade. “About that. I don't know if I'm super comfortable with that idea. You're my friend, not my follower.”

She stops in her tracks. “Herb. I didn’t mean to put pressure on you. And I don’t know exactly what your role is. It could be something small.”

“But you do think it’s something big.”

She thinks. “I think if the spirits want you to do something, they probably chose someone as unique as you for a reason.” She pushes her fingers together. “I don’t really want to worship you either. I mean, I do, if that’s my duty, but...I don’t want to put any distance between us.”

“Me either.” You assure your good friend. “If there is something, I hope you’d be more of a coach or guide, but whatever happens, I know we’ll stay close. But I still think I’m probably just here to help you, if anything.”

She smiles back up at you, judging your projection “I think the reason you’re so good at aura things is because you’re so simple.” She says, not seeming to know or care about the implication.

“Simple?”

“You’re generally in tune with yourself. You don’t have many complexes and you’re always very honest.” Is she judging your projection or your very being? You don’t mind what she’s saying but it makes you feel fairly naked.

You don’t know if those are attributes that are more common in you than others. You just assume everyone is generally like you for the most part.

The connection is fading. You still have reserves of strength, but you are growing a little tired.

Cutiefly zooms around you. It’s so cute!

Another flying bug comes by too, but this one is more concerned about you. It looks confused and lost.

“Careful!” Keira says. “Don’t look into the crack on it’s back.”

The strange bug pokemon hears her, but seems unable to see her. It turns around.

>Okay, well, see you later!

“Okay. I should probably head back.” You tell her.

“Alright. See you soon. Don’t do anything that would get you hurt, okay?”

“Heh, about that...” You feel the draw pulling you back. It’s not that strong, but it’s growing stronger fast. “I’ll tell you all about it later! I want to learn about that pokemon!”

She urges you to go, but offers a bow that looks a little too formal for your liking. That could just be your imagination, though.

You find yourself coming back to the room you were in. As you get closer, you get a bit more control again. You guess the physical range can make a difference. That too, could also be something in your head, though. You remember that shirt Hana has that says “Size matters not” from that movie.

Your projection is almost back. You sense a big cluster of familiar life around the area now, and know you’re close to your body. Hana and Laki seem to be around your bed. Abigail is off in the backyard. What strikes you is the large pool of energy from Abigail. She must be a powerhouse of the stuff! Some other auras are about the house. Your bedroom seems packed with pokemon auras you recognize, including Cubone.

There’s a really sickly looking aura in the room upstairs.

>>
>>2520326
I want to check it out too, later. I guess I'm frustrated people seem to be voting to heal other people all the time but when Herb's the one who's hurt they skip opportunities. Which reads as a sort of self-destructiveness or low self-worth that Herb had seemed to have grown out of. It's like, backwards character growth.
>>
>>2520347
I didn't really vote for the sickly aura to heal it per-say, it just struck me as so odd. We should just head back to our body though, as soon as we identify the aura. There is no harm in getting some more information before we do that though.
