So, you just beat the shit out of a Russian mechanic that threw a liqueur bottle at your head. Commandeered his shop, and decided to make a few spot repairs on your Power Armor while you wait for him to recover. As you're touching up your armor Nyarlathotep's offer comes back to mind. How much longer do you want to do this? You've already been working as a privateer for nearly eight years, most don't last past the first six weeks. With the pay he's offering you could run your own outfit, take up a battle platform and make the big money while using the big guns, or simply retire on some Eden station on the outer fringe of the system. Maybe even buy yourself a claim on Venus or Mars and freeze your ass until terraforming is done. What it's going to be?

>A, Take the job.

>B, Quit and run.

>C, Take the job, but on your own terms. Anything goes south, leave without a second thought.

>D, Think about it later, get your Power Armor fixed for now.

As you are finishing up your repairs the mechanic comes around. Sober, hung over and in incredible pain due to the drowning and beating you gave him. It's just another typical day in Russia for him. He groggily looks over at what you're doing and slowly rises up to his feet. "What is this shit in my shop!" He says walking over it to get a closer look, you ignore him and continue the maintenance tests you started earlier. He almost loses his head as your armor's rear back leg jerks up like a kicking horse, "Goddamn shit!" he says ducking out of the way. "What is AR8 Hellcat doing in my shop? Are you out of your fucking mind Yankee, if that had broke loose just now it might have gone into my singularity containment field! Kaput! We wouldn't even realize we're dead, nor would the town." Suddenly memories came flooding back to him, "You beat me, and drowned me, and now you are in my shop using it. You are crazy!"

You turn to him at this point and stare him down, "I don't have the time to be playing games with you Comrade, you're helping me either way and you'll be compensated, either way." Your implied threat isn't lost. He swallows and nods to you slowly.

"What do you want?"

"A complete upgrade, equipment suitable for either disposing of a level 12 threat index or protracted engagement with one of the local militant organizations in excess of 14 days." He looks at you like you've lost your mind, taxing his features further than they were previously, if that's possible.

"Look, American or 'Space Patriot,' you're asking me to equip your Hellcat with systems suitable for only the largest Power Armor frames or inner SOL Battle Platforms. There's only a few options available, and they're all radical, or how you say, 'EXPENSIVE.' More so than your entire machine is worth ten times over!"

You casually throw the account number to him with the authorization codes. He slowly checks it, all while keeping his eyes locked on you as if you might kill at any second. When he sees the figures in the account his eyes widen, "You're buying me out! To think some Yankee Space Patriot would come riding in here and buy me out of this shit hole. It's like some bad Western! Do you realize what you are buying from me? What the locals around here will do to somebody like you bringing this kind of fire power?" He stammer on like this for a while, but you've heard enough. Demanding he break down what systems he has available in the 25 million price range that are immediately on hand and what options are available for your Hellcat. He's blown too many fuses to care anymore at this point, and simply shrugs while running down your options.

Y'know; I seem to recall reading/hearing somewhere that in modern Russia 'comrade' is slang for a homosexual.

I don't know if the person was just joking, though.
>>
>>2508561
You aren't exactly happy with this mechanic, and he's obviously a sexual freaker on about ten different levels. Also, you aren't exactly an "understanding" person. You're a violent as fuck, speciest, racist, ultra nationalist, chauvinistic mercenary that's clawed your way up from one of the worst hellhole ghettos in the solar system and dedicated your life to regaining the Terran soil that your ancestors lost. You want to murder, butcher, irradiate, flambe, and annihilate every last alien and alien collaborator on earth, but do to certain logistical realities, you have to contain your power level. Bigger guns, more money, good looking women when you can have them, decent food, and murdering aliens are all on the menu. ALL THE TIME.
>>
>>2508522
I'm not greentexting this because it would be eye rape. So the options start after this space break, read carefully because this will determine your mission's success or failure.

A, The Russian Rave, No kinetic projectiles, only laser beams, plasma flame, anti matter particle acceleration, and an enhanced neural interface unit to 3.0 over your current 2.5. That means NO physical awareness of your actual body vs mere sensory relocation. It's the difference between wearing a cool pair of VR goggles, head phones, and smelling a scratchcard vs actually becoming your machine. You feel what the Hellcat feels, you smell what the Hellcat smells, you move its limbs like moving your own natural body parts, your weapons are your claws, and your armor your skin, defense systems respond as a natural extension of your reflexes, and of course your senses are as enhanced as those of your machine's sensors. The reason for this is because your weaponry attacks at the speed of thought and can intercept or counter systems moving at you in excess of Mach 20 or counter beam based weapons. The only drawback is that it requires an incredible amount of power and is hard on your nervous system. The power source being a miniature black hole, less than the size of an atom but it gets the job done! Also, features a real time enhanced laser defense system and slow movement holographic disguise.

B, Heavy Metal, Might be considered the exact opposite of the Russian rave. You bring online a sweet of enhanced armor and shielding options while completely removing the neural interface system. You arm yourself with multiple rail gun systems and munition boxes that carry kinetic projectiles the size of a grain of rice. Might not sound like much until you realize that the mach 30 acceleration of the grain sized metal more than makes up for its lack of mass. Comes equipped with miniature nuclear warheads with a range of fifty miles and a few singularity inducing bombs. Long range combat is this unit's forte, and it all requires is a state of the art fusion power system. Don't let anybody get close, however. As all you'll have to rely on is your Hellcat's claws with conventional controls and dampened long range sensors. Not a good place to be.

C, Hellcat Unleashed, No long range weapon systems. A suit of armor and long range counter systems negating virtually every ranged weapon known to man. As well as an ATRX 4.0 enhanced human interface system. Untraceable, undetectable, immune to all smart systems outside of weapons of mass destruction and up close blind firing. The final icing on the cake is that you armed with four LTX matter annihilators, one for each claw. To put it simply. Your invisible, your reflexes are jacked up beyond the human norm, and your capable of delivering localized destruction comparable to several atomic warheads going off at once to anything you physically touch with your claws. This is specialized for up close encounters utilizing stealth.
>>
>>2508699
>Cont.

D, Biological Hazard. Armed with viral sprayers, a hostile Grey Goo colony, poison synthesizers, mutated Mi-Go fungal colonies, and suit of adaptive long range and up close bio weaponry. You are capable of dealing with multiple situation in a balanced but horrifying approach. Your sensory enhancements for this upgrade package are the most "natural" and harmonious to your system being biological in nature. On the down side you become a temporary brain for your now "biological" power armor. The Hellcat will need to eat, sleep, piss, shit, and entertain itself just like any other living creature, and you're along for the ride. Powered by whatever it finds that looks tasty.
>>
>>2508699
Unf. Make me choose between my children., why don't you?

After considerable consideration, I'm going to go with:
>C, Hellcat unleashed.
Let's nothing personnel some horrors from beyond the veil.
>>
>>2508699
>A suit of armor and long range counter systems negating virtually every ranged weapon known to man.

Does this mean that we effectively can't get shot?

Option C just sounds outright broken compared to the other 3.
>>
>>2508963
Dumb ammunition, lasers, and other melee attacks can still hit you. If they can find you, you're basically invisible. However, you still can't outrun a blast radius or things moving at higher speeds than your Armor can avoid or shoot out of the air with its laser defenses. It's a high risk high reward. You take an atypical approach and destroy the enemy in a way virtually no modern fight takes place, up close and personal.
>>
>>2508974
Hmm with that cleared up they all sound pretty badass... it's hard to decide.

Gonna go with...

We may not be in orbit, but we can nuke things and thus be quite sure.

If a consensus can't be reached I'm going to roll D100 to determine the outcome, with the easier option being less likely. These odds will not be divulged so you don't know if you're fucked or not. I will tell you the middle of the road choice, however. If you just want me to default to it. It's the Bio Mech.

Well if that's the case then I'd wager the choices are from best to worst are:

C: No long range, but fancy countermeasures, invisibility and enhanced reflexes almost guarantee we will close the distance. Given that our CQC weapons are called matter annihilators it looks like it's GG for anyone we actually hit.

A: Looks like a good all round loadout, but the neural interface puts a strain on us so that puts this into second place.

D: This seems interesting, but ultimately more trouble than it's worth. I'd have put this last if the GM hadn't confirmed this was the middle of the road option.

B: Our weapons seem to be capable of annihilating anything at long range, but in a world of advanced stealth tech, smart weapon countermeasures, and reflex enhancers our clunky conventional controls mean we will lose to anything even half as good as Hellcat unleashed.

Despite having reasoned that C is best I am changing my vote to:

>A

Why? Because Mecha Space Pirate Quest ruined CQC protagonists for me. So I'm voting LAYZORS, neural overload be damned.

The protagonist mutated into a Mary Sue that could punch everybody to death both inside and outside his mech.

It was just so eye rollingly disgusting how everything that got within arms length of the guy just died. Good luck trying to take him out at range too since his reflexes were ridiculous and his mech was tanky enough to absorb the few hits he did take.

Hellcat Unleashed just reminded me too much of that. Sure it's stealthy instead of tanky but after I read the description I just know that if we go that route, every fight in this quest is going to turn into us stalking our prey, using our reflexes/countermeasures to negate any last ditch attacks before finally tearing apart the enemy with our bare claws.

I've read enough descriptions of an enemy crumbling beneath death grips to last me... maybe a decade. I want to just sit back and shoot people for a change.

Then again... this is not MSPQ. The fact that the QM is giving us what appears to be a mid game super upgrade in the third thread means that they either have a shitty sense of pacing or that we will be running into some seriously nasty stuff out there.

I'll place my trust in the QM for a Cthulu setting to not turn instantly us into a god-like warrior capable of roflstomping Cthulu. This could be his chance to redeem stealthfags.

>Cthulu setting to not turn instantly us into a god-like warrior capable of roflstomping Cthulu
Oh god, no. The entire might of three (four?) civilizations, three of which are a billion years old are CONTAINING, Cthulhu. To give you perspective. The Mi-Go are higher dimensional beings who's machinery has components that go into realities humans cant perceive. The Yith are lower than that, but have expanded awareness of the so called "hyper present," which is outside of human understanding and range. The Elder things are aware of the higher dimensions but they're just as boned as humans in naturally perceiving it, the only difference is that members of their species are biologically immortal and have the physical strength of a Godzilla monster. Their tech was actually only a couple centuries ahead of humanity until they shared it with them, but they think very slowly. So their tech has to last forever. They actually take radioactive decay into account when building stuff.

Cthulhu's kind are an asexually reproducing race of creatures derived from the Elder Gods themselves. It is hypothetically possible when one of them is old and wise enough to start engineering space time potentialities directly. Permanently bending existence to a form they desire. Possibly, by pushing star systems around into the correct patterns. However, they aren't very good parents and allow their children to devour local creatures and space time. They also had a race of inbred hicks called the Deep Ones that worshiped them. The Deep Ones are gone, along with the eldest members Father Dagon and Mother Hydra. Humanity didn't care too much for them or their breeding habits or belief system.

Cthulhu and his children are currently contained in a localized wormhole being maintained by elder Mi-Go and human authorities. There are a few plans to permanently dispose of them. One being to crack the earth's mantel and fling them into the sun. This has been calculated as having 30% of working.

>>2510352
>or that we will be running into some seriously nasty stuff out there

>>2510348
>The protagonist mutated into a Mary Sue that could punch everybody to death both inside and outside his mech.
You're wearing a Hellcat's pilot suit, which is just a modified standard special forces pilot suit. It allows for enhanced mobility, has a rechargeable palm laser, and provides emergency counter measures to certain injuries. However, to put this into perspective. You're suit will survive most small arms fire and give you one time protection against some types of extreme trauma. The suit will most likely break after a few rounds of small arms fire and will most certainly break after extreme trauma. If it's busted you're simply a well trained man in your prime, and you know how well ordinary humans trained or otherwise do against Cthulhu monsters!

Oh, it's that fragile? Given the pics posted and all the stuff the loadouts entailed I got the impression that we were in a mini-mech of some kind. Some thing bigger than human sized, but still small enough to be considered a "suit", sort of like a Landmate from the appleseed franchise.

Infantry, Armored infantry, then Battle Platforms. Battle platforms are flying, sub orbital, and inner solar system traveling craft that serve as the largest form of single piloted war machines. Tanks, Helicopters, Ships, Subs, etc are all obsolete a long time ago. Anything larger are multi crewed affairs ranging from large battle platforms to spaceships, and up to moon sized battle stations.

Not that there aren't idiots that still use them. Anyway, update in an hour. Be there or be square.

The upgrade takes close to a week, but it's worth the wait. The Russian mechanic turns your Hell Cat into a work of art. Nearly invisible to the naked eye (as well as the rest of the spectrum), enhanced plating, self repairing cellular sized machines, laser defenses, scrambler systems, and a 4.0 synaptic enhancing neural interface. All powered by an anti matter plasma system that uses your Hell Cat's claws as the "heat sinks." Truly, death has become you. The Mechanic is of course nowhere to be found when you find your Hell Cat completed, he left far before informing you so that he could get a head start if you planned on silencing him after the work was done. Good riddance. He'd probably wanted to use the 4.0 synaptic enhancement system for some virtual Elder Thing porn.

You enter your new "body." The synaptic connections essentially merge you with your Power Armor. Your claws feel like your hands, hands that can crush steel or fillet a Mi-Go, something you've longed to try out. Your sight can give you picture perfect clarity up to two miles away before resolution begins to fall off. The smell of the tainted lands around you intoxicate your mind with the desire to hunt. The feel of gravel between your claws makes you want to run. A feeling of absolute invincibility descends on you, your megalomania gets the better of you and you head out without performing a single maintenance routine or checking your systems. Why bother? Your body feels just fine! Where are you going?

>A, The mission, yes the mission sounds like a good place to head. Nyarlathotep's Avatar gave you a job, should you do it?

You arrive at the coordinates of the homesteaders and find, nothing. Well, to be more specific you find a completely flattened area of the forest. Devoid of life and any trace there used to be anything here at all. If you had to guess, you'd say it was a Mi-Go weapon that did the job, but you don't have to. Your armor, or body, feels the ever so slight increase in weight. Any remaining trace of a gravitational weapon means that it was used at max efficiency for a period of more than twelve minutes. Nothing should remain after that, nothing that follows the traditional laws of physics that is. So, whatever caused this to happen is big and damn scary, very scary. What do you do?

If the area is really that thoroughly annihilated there isn't likely to be much in the way of clues. The Mi-Go might know a lot more, but do we really want to cash in our favour for this?

Also, can we deduce which direction the gravity attack came from by looking at the pattern of destruction?

The satellite imagery shows a clear depression in amidst the flattened earth of something massive sliding off towards the North East. There is also hidden from your line of site, but visible up above. A clear indication building used to be before being flattened. You walk over to the origin of the disaster and find your old Mi-Go buddy, the detective. He's in bad shape. More than 80 percent of him has been pulped, leaving nothing more than his "head" wearing the detective hat. The gray is nowhere to be seen. As you approach the head weekly flashes some lights at you in a disjointed pattern. Thanks to your enhanced neural interface the meaning is immediately apparent as if you naturally understood it. Rather than needing to rely on the translator to read it out to you.

"He got me kid, too strong. The commie was too strong. I'm not gonna last. I need you to scrape my brain into a preservation vessel and then deliver me to my kin or personally to the spawning grounds on Pluto. The kids deserve to learn from my mistakes. Good luck kid. Kill that commie punk for me. Also, one of your own rugrats is underneath that rubble. I was only able to save a single kid, sorry..." His lights go dark.

You don't like Crabs. You don't like working for Crabs. You don't like owing Crabs favors. So far every single Alien you've come across has lied to you or tried to murder you or at least threatened to. In particular, the Crabs.

That being said, you are (mildly) bound by professional courtesy and inter planetary law. Also, somebody made fanart of the Mi-Go detective so I thought he deserved a proper send off.

>So we just happen to have something like that? Makes me wonder what else we have. Does the armour have an internal coffee machine?
Yes, a lot of extraneous shit, and yes. You are in alien infested lands with a zero expectation of human contact or anything remotely resembling habitable infrastructure. The town the mechanic resided in was an outback trading post nigger rigged into something suitable for human habitation. An absolute score for somebody like yourself. Otherwise, your Armor is your home. Food (dehydrated, including coffee) rations for ten days, bio containment storage for anything squishy and interesting you find, compartments for xenos junk or mineral wealth you find, a cache of personal weapons for you to carry, waste disposal and hydration systems (when using the "advanced" neural interface and you can't be worried about stopping to go to the bathroom), a spare pilot suit (expensive, don't lose!), survival gear, food processor and sanitation unit (when you have to forage), and fishing wire. All this excess baggage requires the chassis of your Hell Cat to be the largest commercial variant for it. Your poor Hell cat would resemble Garfield if it wasn't for the fact you also have the largest commercial legs available. All in all your Power Armor is more than twenty five feet long, and seven feet wide. It's in the largest class of Power Armor available.

You decide to keep the Mi-Go's hat as a memento and a sign of respect for him rescuing a human kid. As far as taking his brain to Pluto, well, you'll have to hedge your bets on that one. You go ahead and scoop it into a containment pod fo safe keeping.

Under the debris you find a child. Three years old and the only survivor of this ill fated homesteading effort. There's nothing you can do for the kid other than evacuate them in a drone to the boundary guard nearly a thousand miles away. You knock the kid out with some 24 hour tranquilizer agent, then stuff them into a bad for your drone to pickup. It will take it about 16 hour to reach the boarder patrols and probably take them a few weeks to locate any in-laws, or arrange for adoption and permanent state custody. Civilians within the inner system have a very high quality of life, less they take on additional risk or burden themselves. The outer colonies, not so much. You somewhat envy the kid, but that's all in the past. You've got work to do!

What little you can compare it to is based on the Reclamation Bureau's concealed records of the few direct assaults on R'lyeh by Mi-Go and Humanities forces in 2075. There was only one recorded death of such a creature and it involved a dramatic fatiguing of its ability to "remake" itself. A total destruction of the organism no less than half a dozen times was needed. Each remaking caused it to slow down and additional reduction in its ability to attack. The primary method being 4D physical lashing and 6D variant of well. It's advised you be mindful of gravitational, spatial, and temporal distortions. There's noted bounty of an approximate value of several asteroids of pure gold should any tissue samples be retrieved for the Mi-Go's R&D Bureau.

How do you wish to proceed?

>A, Take advantage of your stealth and follow the tracks as carefully as possible before contact is made.

>B, Diverge from the tracks and follow from satellite. Move through the forest until you locate it.

>C, Follow the tracks from a mile in parallel on the North Side.

>D, Follow the tracks from a mile in parallel on the South Side.

What happened to the weapon that the Mi-Go got off of us? Can we use that to help pin the dam thing down while we try and play grab ass with it?

You slowly stalk the path for about four hours at a rate of twenty miles an hour. The Star Spawn is "felt" before you see it. If it wasn't for the strengthening effects of your enhanced nervous system you'd probably collapse in on yourself, unable to know anything or anybody ever again. Your mind reels from the experience and unimaginable terror enters into your being. Different parts of you are aging at separate rates and the land stretches off around you into the infinite. If you can't find your center soon, you're as good as dead.

>A, Inject yourself with a cocktail of potent mind altering drugs. Getting away from yourself may help you survive.

>B, Run in any direction as fast as you can. Leaving the affected area might save, but you might also go deeper.

>C, Stay calm and focus.

>D, Offload some of your higher brain function into your armor. Things will get "simple" for a while, but you don't need higher brain functions to kill.

By offloading, can we set a failsafe to switch back again? I don't think it's wise to offload our higher motor functions without any counter plans, otherwise its like going full retard.

Let's get feral.

I assume Q.M. would warn us if this were a permanent thing.

Seems like the best option if we're going to engage in combat, injecting ourselves with mind altering drugs while we're in the vicinity of something that tanks our sanity is probably only gonna make things worse.

No way in hell can we stay zen in the face of an eldritch horror using mere mortal stoicism.
