The brave inquisition garrison continue their stubborn and increasingly desperate defences against the goblinoid hordes. Every single man and woman among them offering up their entirety to the cause of their patron and her champion. Bodies lie broken and hewn in two; mortally wounded old men with fire in their bellies charge into impossible situations in an effort to die well. Their passing thrusting the younger generation of Inquisition, into veterancy and rebirth in the red sands far before their rightful time.

Above all of the bloodshed you inhale with a breath so deep that the air itself seems to shimmer around you, golden flames brightening and pulsing with uncontained, barely restrained power.

And exhale a pillar of pure solar destruction down upon the goblins emerging from the wagon, a perfectly uniform and blinding ray from Minerva's own surface springing forth from your gullet and roving over the monstrosity's assaulting the academy. The creature's in the beam's path are set abalze by sheer temeparture within the proximity of your attack, the unlucky ones directly blasted simply beocming unrecognizable piles of ash and ,elted carapace from it's intensity.

Half a street across each way, the pillar is a shining beacon to the magesty and power of Minerva and a rousing cheer of hope from the backlines echoes across the rapidly emptying carvanassery when your efforts wins the mighty garrison a much needed reprieve.

For a second, no foes stand before them. Your power's strain is only starting to takehold and your flightpath wobbles for an almost imperceptable time... But it seems like the day is won.

Until the Praetorians arrive.

The sheer force of the creatures breaks the personal plane spell of the Wagon, an expansive log cabin springing into existense with a ear destroying crack as suddenly as if it were teleported into being; grey light serving to silhouette creatures which tower above the neighbourhood and boundary wall.

Serrated scales of dull green catch the golden light of your form and the emerald light of the planar shattering behind it as well. Something so large should not move so fast, and from it's eyes comes a strange pair of lights resembling the magical lights reflected on it 's scales. One gold and one green light, each one wrapping aorund your wrists and forcing your guard wide open.

Open for the rapidly encroaching darkness, flanked on all sides by teeth twice as large as you. The huge repitllian monstrosity charging and leaping into the air like some kind of collosal frog; leaving behind craters and broken ranks with every single step as it comes.

Helpless, you scream your defiance at the mouth rapidly snapping shut prepare yourself for the imminent death about to befall you as only someone who comes back from it can.

You shut your eyes, not really wanting to witness your death.

But there is no sound of pulped bone, skin and guts. No moment of horrific agony, indeed even the restraints on your arms seem to lessen as the only noise is of a hammer striking iron.

When you open your eyes, a short but incredibly muscular woman has her palms against the roof of the Praetorian's mouth; managing to hold the beast's jaws open. Even in her uniform and unarmed, the form of Lisbeth Honamurei is unmistakable as she staves off certain death for both you from on the creature's tongue.

In a flash of blinding light you flap your wings; throwing your body forward at a lurch until you stand shoulder to shoulder with Honamurei and slam your own hands into the roof of the creature's mouth. Your fingers burn handholds into it's horrible puce gums and both of your redouble your resistance to the cereature's efforts like two stubborn rocks in a raging white river.

Both of you grit your teeth, your holy fire and Honamurei's sheer strength allowing you both to fight against millenia of primal evolution. As you both grunt and strain, the creature's growls of frustration sound far away; the struggle and dire situation only amplifying the cramped, sweltering area's claustrophobic effect upon you.

Pressed almost cheek to cheek with Hona, you stare into her blue eye as it burns with feverish energy. "Thanks..." You say between grunts.

"Vas nothingk." She responds as both of your arms tremble, this isn't exactly easy though; the creature manages to force the pair of your arms slightly lower.

"Sorry.. for..." You begin but end up letting out a savage gragh as you force the jaws back up another half inch.

"Later... Vhen not dying."

"Sure." Is your response before digging deep in preparation; Honamurei seems to sense the building in power as you relax your legs, bringing yourself to the same height as her; "Together..."

"Vun..." She begins.

"Two..." You follow.

You share a glance before finishing.

"Three!"

With synchronised screaming your power explodes upwards, the wings on your back blinking out of existense as you channel every fleeting ember of it up from your soul, up to you shoulders, through both biceps and wrists, all the way to your arms where you push furiously against the rapidly sizzling flesh of the monster. It gives, more than gives; with Honamurei's muscles rapidly swelling, rupturing and regenerating; she's able to aid if not excel past your own efforts.

The creature's skull begins to creak, but you don't stop there, both you screaming out in fury as you continue upwards and upwards; carving a bloody path even as you both force the Praetorian skull upwards and away. Every second your advance becomes harder and harder; the tension and reistsance ratcheting upwards as you become surrounding by flexing and constricting muscles; cartilage and ligament passing both of your by as desperate self preservation The air reverberates with a crack as breaking point is reached, the creature's skull seeming to flip backwards as the upper part of it's mouth and snout begins flying off into the city in a lazy arc as if you both launched it from a trebuchet.

You inhale, taking in the insane still of the land around while your own force carries both of you upwards. It's not going well, in fact were it not for Lexington's Chimera engaging and losing to the other Praetorian, the imposing woman left with the thankless task of organising a fighting retreat would be dealing with a panicked rout most likely.

But for the moment, there is no godly power surrounding you; just you and Honamurei on the top of the world. Floating. Without a thought for anything else, in the moment your body is being forced flat by gravity beginning to reclaim its rightful dominion over it you give Honamurei a smile.

She returns it as you both turn your bodies down, skydiving at the Praetorian missing half of it's jaw and part of the skull. Aiming for the the centre of the deep pit that spurts thick black blood into the air, gauntlets begin clicking and sliding into place as the revving leaves thin trails of smoke behind your descent like some purple comet from the heavens.

Hona shouts something lost to the wind and overtakes your fall, arching her body back like a feline in before suddenly flipping downwards at top speed.

The Troll becomes a blur of white steel and black uniform as she carves directly through the Monster's remaining lower jaw and through, the impact alone staggers the beast. The horrific carnage as she carves through it's tongue, jaw and all the way down it's abdomen just extra.

Which leaves it screaming and bleeding out, glaring down at Honamurei with furious and impotent dtermination to take her down with it as it perishes. the smirk on her face and finger pointing to the sky seems to be lost on the monstrosity as it remains fixated upon the woman who spilled half of it's guts.

Perfect for you.

You allow yourself a moment of rapture as your divine zen coalesces into a Godly strike that dims the sun for ten seconds. The Praetorian's brains, pulp from the impact against it's exposed and fractured skull before that too is demolished. If you were a comet before, now you are somewhere between a whole asteorid storm and a shooting star as what little solid brain matter remains is both broiled in it's own black blood by your heat and impales on superheated fragments of skull. The rain of fiery glory continues as your golden strike pushes through what used to be the monster's throat and down it's spinal column, a blistering path to the ground that melts around you for passage as if the very flesh and blood of this creature were simply succumbing to your power passively instead of you actually expending effort to slay the beast.

But your landing is as explosive as it is deadly, the sheer displaced pressure splats drones against the cabin and the boundary walls with it's violence. Even Honamurei struggles not to get blown back by the shockwave as the Divine Light of Minerva recedes into your body, her own landing crater is left dwarfed by yours... multiple soldiers and blue goblins falling into each other in a mss of disorganization from their gigantic trump card's defeat.

Instead of exhaling you begin coughing violently as the remains of the Prateroain split in twain and shower to the ground around you, thankfully it seems the strain of Divine Zen did not quite tear you apart this time. But here you are, hunched over in a warzone and splattering the dirt with your own splotches of red.

An arm drapes around your shoulders and another scoops you off your feet, a familiar gaze evaluating you for just a moment before speeding off towards the entrance and eixt of the complex. Behind your back you see Lexington's Chimera on it's back. It's rear legs claw at the underbelly of a Praetorian in vain; The giant monster simply buries is mouth in the great extraplanar beast, signalling the end of a noble creature.

The sheer scale of the goblinoid battle. The many human, orcish, goblin, lamia, animal person, even an ogre, all lie carpeting the dirt. Each one caking the yard of Lucky's Caravanassery all manner of flesh, blood, the miasma of death...

A greenish silver bubble begins falling into place over the scene, the colour of Vernon Leixngton's magic doing little to seperate you from the images that are burning themself into your rapidly numbing brain. But his barrier is erected, the goblins streaming out into the yard splitting their efforts between killing off the Chimera and covering every surface of the barrier's interior.

"By Minerva..." A lightly wounded inquisition member says. "They're... screening their movements."

"Goblins were never this smart before...." A woman chimes in.

"They die the same as other goblins!" An orc adds.

The unsettling aura of the monsters is setting in, and Honamure deposits you shortly after you reach the makeshift camp being erected. The two of you walk among the group until you are accosted by Warlord Chiron, "You! Follow me, the big wigs want ta know how the hells this all started and you were right at ground zero."

"Look I-"

"I don't care what you say. I don't care what you might tell us, the magic lads seem to have ideas on how to stop it but they want you there so get going."

"Ve don't even know vhere the fuck ve're going!" Honamurei protests.

"Straight ahead, I need to go." She pushes past you both, briskly marching towards the forming vanguard of wounded and veteran soldiers.

You slowly begin making your way through the camp, in awe at the swiftness of the Academy's response in deploying both the garrison and medical attention. Amongst those treating the wounded you spot the Centaur Craftmaster, as well as Bella and Miranda. Both the dorm matrons performing exemplary and professional medical care; despite the huge flash the sheep lady is downing.

Even you are haunted and numbed by this. But little parts of you are amazed and grateful to Minerva and sheer chance for helping you find this problem before the whole city fell to it.

The act of reaching out to Honamurei is both clumsy and depserate, but she is ensnared by your arms and trapped within the tight hug anyway. Her once again small frame is easily enveloped by your height and you take solace from the fact she hasn't pushed you away or decked you. "Thanks Hona... for he- saving me. For coming back and... Thanks for even caring about me."

A tiny hand pats your back, but it's all the comfort she offers. Her body lightly shaking a single time before she moves to break the embrace. While she has an even voice, she very deliberately makes sure you can't see her right eye. "Ve need to go. Vithout plan none of us vill survive these things." She marches towards the gathering in the centre of camp, forcing you to trot to keep up.

"Wait, you know about them?"

"Ve deal cith goblins vhere I grow up. Vhen drones come hunters take children to show them proper fight. Varrior caste meat is actually von of our finest delicacies."

"But those blue ones and the gigantic things? I'm guessing you've never-"

"No." She curtly answers, cutting your enquiry off, either in an attempt to cull the conversation or change the subject matter.

Undeterred your saws duplicate at your side as you look for some modicum of a connection; "Well what do you think about the fight? I never thought we'd get to do something like-"

"Purps. Stop acting like nothingk has changed. Vhat ve had... vhat ve lost. Ve might get it back some day, but you need to stop acting like nothingk vent wrong!" She keeps marching, but her words root you to the spot for a second and allow her out of earshot.

By the time you lengthen your gait, a motley war council of veteran inquisition members surround Leixngton and other notbale fgures from the school. Chiron is seated on a barrel, an Orcish man standing still at her side while Lexington discusees the situation with an armour clad women. Blond ehair tumbles down her back, her vey being simply forcing your attention as you enter the area.

She is authority. The power in her voice and posture as she addresses those she barks oders to leaves no room for questioning or reproach. "Ah, Young Miss Lexington. I had hope to first meet you in better circumstances." Her voice is very precise and polite, but she removes a gauntlet to shake your hand. "I am inquisitor Tarth, head of the Minervan Inquisition; a pleasure."

With a polite nod you shake the hand, both of your grips straining against the other for dominance. Amusingly enough, her gaze is still warm even as she comes out slightly ahead in this minute contest. "Purps Lexington. A pleasure Lady Inquisitor."

"Minerva's light fill you." You both say as one. Hints of amusement on both of your faces at the strange kinship you seem to share.

Her mouth moves strangely and you hear a voice all too deep and bassy to be of human make; Hunters of dragons show no deference Purps. I am simply Tarth to you.

As you begin to wonder what just happens Tarth cuts any followup enquiry off by getting things back on track, "I have heard much of your exploits. But I'm afraid I must partake in your company another time, for now I must ask you exactly what you found.

At this Fox climbs his way out of the nook within your armour, tiny claws leaving pinpricks of blood on the small of your back as he wiggles outside to cling onto your belt like some small game you've caught.

You hear the intake of breath from Hona at your side as Fox's wings spread wide, the hawkfox seemingly confident his flight has returned to him.

"Well, when I returned to the place that has been my home since leaving home; I found no sign of my pet Fox here." Reaching aorund you lay your hand flat, allowing Fox to flap and hop onto the back of your knuckles to perch on your forearm. "When I resorted to leaving out bait some kind of bipedal worm monster came in..."

"Bipedal worm?" Chiron asks from her seat, scratching her eyepatch.

The bulky orc by her side looks frustrated at this. "Ingraz Fencer, can't live outside Cadalon."

Lexington seems content to hold his council and you look at the scribe in Inquisition garb taking notes for any further inquiries, when none is forthcoming you continue, "After I killed the thing, I heard noises coming from Le- Father's storeroom and investigated. I found three of the little ones-"

"Drones. They're called drones child." The orc again corrects, causing Chiron to rather conspicuously roll her eye.

"I found three drones and a red portal being held open by some crystal sphere on a lectern. After a brief skirmish one retreated through the portal after the other two displayed some odd abilities and sacrificed themselves to ensure their comrade retreated. Upon hearing huge foosteps and the screaming of hundreds of voices I decided to retreat, barricade the stores and raise the alarm."

"It seems like you made the right call." Tarth compliments, hand cupping her chin in thought. "But this does leave a serious concern; namely why Vernon opened a portal to a goblin hive without closing it or informing any of the relevant authorities?"

Surprisingly Lexington isn't the one defending himself, it is his friend Haryan, "I think you'll find Vernon has been teaching classes all day-"

"We all know eyewitness doesn't mean shit when it comes to Vernon. Guy's the best illusion wizard... maybe ever." Chiron weighs in.

You turn to your make believe father, keeping you voice level and monotone, "Why did you open a portal to a goblin hive anyway?

He looks around at everyone, "I have my reasons. Reasons which the headmistress asked me not to disclose without her express permission."

"That's a load of-"

The orc cuts off Chiron, "This man was set to be our next Headmaster and has served far longer than either of us. Headmistress will vouch for him."

Tarth seems to scrutinise the orc as he speaks, "For now we trust Zar's appraisal and presume Vernon did not willfully unleash such an infestation. Let us instead focus on what we shall do next."

Honamurei speaks up, staring down the rest of those present as if the solution were obvious, "Ve need to vipe every vun of zem out. If ve can funnel zem enough Lexington, Purps or a ritual could scour them from ze face of the world in vun attack."

"We could contain them long enough for a sealing spell, Lex and that second year wizard hold the barriers whilst Haryan seals the portal or banishes the goblins to another plane?" Chiron proposes.

"If we don't feel confident in our ability to deal with this threat, evacuating the academy and opening a portal to Minerva would reduce the compound to ash. We would require Lexington on portal duty and Purps to ensure nothing is amiss." Tarth adds in.
