With the red star of Horizon's Drop emerging from the horizon the dawn sky lightens and the stars fade from view. Clouds drifted across, looming with the promise of snow but the sun still shone between the breaks. A chill wind gripped the mountain ridge, causing the Osogo pilgrims to shiver and bleat in discomfort despite their thick winter coats.

Their herd trailed for several miles, hundreds in number following the guidance of their Matrons. They were the largest gathering of the osogo so far, five herds joining together in the aftermath of the Empires attack. They came from near and far, from the plains, swamps, and coasts, drawn by the words of the already faithful Matrons and driven by dreams of the stars and more.

Marching up the path they felt the cold biting at them, heads turned low against the wind with the youngest members kept in the middle of the herd where it was warmest. A chirring call rings out in the air suddenly, picked up by a multitude of others as the flock of Gargoyles that flew overhead and guiding them on, began calling out excitedly. The pilgrims lift their heads curiously as a break in the clouds against the horizon allows the rays of the sun to pierce through.

Their eyes drawn up they see the light of the dawn strike the spires and buildings of Iti'a'Ropku, the city almost appearing without warning before them. A multitude of light began to shine and glimmer among the towers of bone, sunlight striking the multitude of crystalline designs that decorated the city. Among them beacons of crimson light that were the Dirges and Requiems basking in the light.

The herd began to murmur and speak among themselves, a renewed energy finding them as they picked up the pace toward the city. The path became a wide road, cobblebone lining the path up toward the colossal gates of dark metal that stood wide open at their approach.

As they neared they could hear music on the wind, along with strange chanting that seemed to come from nowhere. Gathered at the gates was a large crowd of many different races, the pilgrims both confused by the strange forms arrayed before them but comforted by the many towering forms of fellow Osogo mixed among them.

Their eyes however, were drawn up toward the figure that floated above them all, a figure they recognized at once from their dreams. Gargoyles swoop in, flocking around Lich-Lord Jadyk as he spread his hands wide in welcome as the osogo pilgrims approached and a voice rang out speaking in a language they did not know but could understand somehow.

"I am deeply honored to welcome you all home! For this is Iti'a'Ropku, the Home of All Souls and home to all Osogo who make this pilgrimage! Please, join us and our Armada, you have all earned your rest and place among us!"

The crowd began to cheer at his words and splits, allowing the weary pilgrims to walk through the gates and into the grand plaza where even more citizens of the city waited to welcome them with celebration.

Research Events:
>Psionic Backlash
Another lab and Think Tank dedicated to experimenting with Psionics has suffered an accident where a test involving cloned test subjects has led to another setback but a revelation for future progress but requiring your attention.

Finished Research:
>Fractoid Remains:
The dust like remains of the strange robotic appearing entities within the Throne system superficially resembles simple sand or quartz dust and resisted initial tests to study its composition. However, after working with the Obsidianborn the Think Tanks have made a startling discovery about this strange foe.

>Gas Giant Filter Farms
Inspired by how the Zaeen are able to consume and metabolize the gases of Gas Giants the Think Tanks hoped to adapt it as a method to produce biomass in addition to collecting starship fuel

Current Research:

>Advanced Mental Reading:
Medium - Experiments into remote thought scanning technology

>Orbital Shields:
Slow - With the fragility of orbital superstructures the Think Tanks propose more measures to defend them

>Psionics:
Medium, possibly dangerous - The incident with the Advanced Mental Reading lab has inspired several Think Tanks to begin researching psionics by focusing on telekinesis gained from sources other than Necrotic energy

>Floral Necrotic Experiments:
Unknown, Dangerous - A project proposed by a Think Tank, who worked on the original Necrotic experiments on the living that lead to the Immortals, has grown intrigued with the Armatocere Necrotic initiates and requests their aid in experimenting with Necrotic energies and floral organisms

>Ahkam Matriarch Dissection:
Medium - Think Tanks that long wished to study an Ahkam Matriarch are excited to study the corpse of Quantac'Vrix and already begin discussing Reconstruction

>Matriarchs Armor:
Medium - The heavily fortified and technologically advanced armor that the Matriarch utilized will be studied thoroughly as she is studied as well

>Ahkam Datafiles:
Medium - Decrypting and studying the vast amount of files stored upon the warships of the Ahkam will take some time but are sure to have a wealth of knowledge concerning the Dynasties

>Gravetics
Medium - Inspired by the Armatoceres developments into gravity manipulating technology the Think Tanks have begun looking at base theories concerning their Interdiction Field technology and studying gravity manipulating materials including exotic matter and Void energies.

>Mass Shielding
Slow - A splinter research thread of the Orbital Shielding into experimenting with new theories in shield technology

>Calcified Void Fragment
Medium - Research into examining and deducing the properties of the Void amplifying piece of bone taken from a Deathshead Guardian

>Gremlin Genetic analysis
Fast - Scans and genetic samples of the arthropod creatures called Gremlins by the pirate clans. Once a common pest aboard starships and space stations they were nearly wiped out due to their compulsion to sabotage machinery

>Synth Technology: Medium - Various samples of tech and hardware salvaged from a Protectorate derelict

>Synth Arc Reactor: Fast - It appears that the Transcendent Protectorate has a capable understanding of the Arc element, creating weapons and technology that revolved around it such as a portable reactor similar in form to an Arc Condenser

>Sub-Space Experiments:
Ongoing, Dangerous - Risky experimentation in the nature of Sub-Space and dimensional energies

>Reconstructed intelligence:
Unknown - Less of an experiment and more of a study and observation into investigating the cause and effects of the development of intelligence and personality within Reconstructed

>Dream Study:
Unknown - Due to the regularity that Necromancers appear to have of prophetic dreams the Think Tanks have begun studying the nature of these visions by examining the dreamscapes of the living citizens in the Armada

>Arc Anomalies:
Medium, Potentially Dangerous - A joint study by the Think Tanks and Mind-Vines to examine and assess the various anomalies left in the aftermath of the Arc Surge and Ahkam Invasion within the Bastion system.

Unlocked:
Gas Giant Filter Farms- Derived from the biological processes of the Zaeen lifeforms these "Farms" utilize the gases siphoned from the atmosphere of gas giant planets. These same gases are most commonly refined into fuel for sub-light and ftl engines and as such can be harvested by the same machinery. These farms are built onto the fuel refineries where teratomas are cultivated and harvested for breakdown in Cauldrons. Settled gas giant planets now provide 5B

Nephrean Bioship upgrade- Nephrean bioships can now feed much like the feral Zaeen on the atmospheres of gas giants but with a much higher efficiency. This also allows the bioships to have a constant source of biomass available for Cauldrons or Alchemical Forges making them nearly self-sufficient for them and their crew.

Fractoid Remains analyzed- Dubbed the "Fractoids" by the Obsidianborn due to the staggeringly complex fractal structures that comprise the grains of their dust-like remains. Created from an unknown element each grain resembles geometric, nearly crystalline, structures. Initially study of the material stumped both Obsidianborn and Think Tanks, unable to break down the grains for further study. It wasn't until an energy current that a reaction was gained and progress began anew until a sudden breakthrough shed light upon this mystery. It was a Stonestar scientist, one of the originals brought from Bastion to Iti'a'Ropku to study and learn, that noticed a similarity between the fractal structures within each grain and the crystalline hardlight projectors of the Armada.

Originally it was believed that the Fractoids consisted of nanomachine swarms due to their shapeshifting and witnessing their starships merging together to assume larger forms along with how their remains decomposed into the dust-like material. However, one mystery that confused the Think Tanks was how their starships created a gravitational shadow far lighter than what objects of their supposed mass should be. With this new breakthrough the answer is quite unsettling to the Obsidianborn and Stonestar researchers.

Both Obsidianborn and Think Tanks have concluded that the Fractoids are not in fact nanomachine swarms but rather constructs made from a new form of hardlight previously thought theoretically impossible. Somehow the fractal grains serve as both hardlight projector and amplifier, working in tandem to compel light into behaving as solid matter at a level of complexity far exceeding anything in Cauldron or Obsidianborn technology. From observations the hardlight persists, lingering for a time even after losing power or becoming severed from the core before decomposing harmlessly rather than explosively.

However the researchers propose that without a significant power source the Fractoids should not be able to exist or hold their form and wish to capture intact Fractoid specimens for further study. The Lavafather himself adds that these answers only add more questions and will support such an operation if the Armada approves.

Looking over the analysis of the Fractoid remains you have to agree with the Lavafather about it leaving more questions than answers from the results. The idea of capturing a Fractoid specimen would have to be a careful endeavor if your proceeded. You had learned of how one of their probes emerged on the outskirts of the Bastion system and left before it could be intercepted, likely scouting the system if your hunch was to be believed.

Updates are skimmed over such as Tlacex departing Drakon after arriving via Arc Gate the day before and due to arrive in Refuge either later that evening or the next day. Ruscuv and Valresko were en route with Zekrul's Envoy, the Palanquin well on its way back back.

The vote among the Ructu natives were proceeding quicker than guessed as they worked tirelessly to travel and gather the opinions of the others.

An update from the Wayward Disciple is examined, finding yourself prideful at their progress and curious about this Transcendent Protectorate they had met. The update if funneled along to the Voidknights, Lorgul always excited to hear more of the Disciples exploits.

To your relief there was little in the way of concern that required your immediate attention.

Vle'Karak has spoken with the Ahkam Vil'cva, the older serpent sending for a Harbinger to join them on the moon when you have a moment.

There is the matter of the Think Tanks wishing to discuss the psionic backlash and the research project along with a potential work around they may have stumbled upon.

There is a message from Necromancer Klikli, the stonestar suggesting that the rogue Necromancer finally be interrogated. From the Wayward Disciples update you learned of their cruel device the Penance Array and wonder if such a torturous device could bend the human to your will if you do not decide to Reconstruct him into a new General.

Speaking of new Generals, there is the matter of both the Arc and Void Disciples that proved themselves worthy and strong enough to ascend and take new names. However, the fact they both recovered their memories of their life was still somewhat alarming but both have so far served with steadfast loyalty to the Armada and their respective orders.

There is a note from Jor, the human helping Red-Leaf-Strains welcome and introduce the osogo pilgrims to the rest of the city as the start of his "vacation". He mentions how the captives from the Ahkam invasion could benefit from a personal address from you in the wake of the Matriarchs death, stating it would likely help sway them faster to the Armada's way of thinking.

Almost as if tacked on at the end by the Deep Rot is a reminder of the Armatocere Collective's invitation to send a Harbinger to the Worldtree to meet with the Parliament of Trees.

Good practice for later invasions, so we should get it over with.
As for visiting the Worldtree...its not going to be that simple. I know you Grave, I know you have some enemy that is going to show up to spoil the party, so i'd like it if we made some discrete preparations before we leave, which itself will be the last thing on the agenda we do.

Throughout the systems of Horizon's Drop and Bastion the prisons of the Armada were filled with the captives from the Ahkam invasion. Everyone from the lowliest footsoldier to the admirals to ship engineers was treated equally, everyone provided medical care and food. Med-pods held those who had sustained the worst injuries as their bodies were healed. Tyrre were kept isolated, their cells heavily doused with calming drugs and vapors to keep them in a near catatonic state aided by fresh teratoma slabs to keep them satiated until they could be implanted with a symbiot and join the experimental groups.

The majority however were kept in various underground caverns, hollowed out large enough to house several hundred each and almost resembling subterranean towns. They weren't restrained if they behaved although there were was the occasional discontent that required a lesson from their Domination Shards to settle down. Reconstructed were stationed in alcoves on the walls or walked among the prisoners to break up brawls, the glimmer of red crystal marking the Dirges that kept a constant vigil.

Most were bewildered by the strange prisons, expecting small cells and torture but many fell into deep depressions after the broadcasts that were displayed on large overhead holoscreens, showing the corpse of the Matriarch and the demonstration of Jadyk's power.

Now, across every one of these caverns a Harbinger descends, new holoscreens illuminating to display the figures that floated over them and gathers their collective attentions. They stood in silence or shouted out demands half-heartedly or with a furious vigor, but all looked upwards toward the Harbingers you split your mind between and spoke with your voice in unison.

What shall you say to these captives?

...What we always say? They will serve in life or in death, the choice is up to them. The Akham were false gods that abused their power and have been brought low by the might of the New Necrotic Armada. They have the option of serving in the Necrolyte Legion.
Oh also, comb them over for elemental potentials obviously.
Really we do this with all our prisoners, we should just hand out some pre-made pamphlets or something

This.

Especially because they're from the Akham, we should note that all peoples are welcome in our city, (Add a video of the incoming Osogo and the celebration of that in there) and that those to wish to lay down their arms forever are welcome to pursue the finer arts in the city. (Add stock footage of people relaxing, gardening with aid of the Armo, painting, etc.)

Really showcase both the glory that they can attain in the Necrolyte legion, and the peace and joy they can find by existing peacefully with all peoples of the universe in our cities.

Please feel free to jazz this up and/or add anything that would convince them they've got a path forward, and that life as a citizen of the New Armada is good.

"I am a Harbinger. I speak with the voice of Jadyk, and you hear his words.

I have come to preach freedom to the captives. You were warriors of the Akham Dynasties, and have suffered a great loss. I was once a great warrior in a misguided armada, and then we were defeated and destroyed, and I myself because a captive underground, as many of you are. I had many years to ponder how I had come there, how I had fallen from such heights to such depths. You have also fallen, not just from victory and strength but from the worship of beings that you now know were not worthy of it.

You have now seen and realized that the Dynasties you served claimed greater power and glory and wisdom than they truthfully possessed, and that you gave them greater loyalty than they deserved. Their arrogance has led to downfall. Your life as a warrior of the Dynasties is over.

But the end of one life need not be the end of all. Your life in the service of the Dynasties is dead, but I have come to offer a new life.

[Showing Iti'a'Ropku]
I have forged a new path. One free from the tyranny of the arrogant, where all can be free and be strong together. Where all can strive to accomplishments worthy of the gift of life, and be rewarded for their efforts. Where all are protected from the cruelty of the arrogant. Where we all find strength in each other. All who wish to join that new life in peace are free to do so.

[Showing the Legion]
Those who serve to protect that peace are worthy of even greater favors. All who wish it may serve and strive for greater strength among the Legion, and achieve glory of their own by their own merits.

[Showing Immortals]
And those who prove themselves worthy in this new life can look forward to yet another life - to Eternity.

All of this freedom is yours if you will accept it, and live it.

To Death and through it to Eternity."

"I have come to preach freedom to you captives. Once you were mighty warriors of the Ahkam Dynasty, serving the Matriarch Quantac'Vrix and her children, but you have suffered a great defeat. I too was once a great warrior in a misguided Armada, serving a patron that desired conquest and subjugation. Then, we were defeated and destroyed, and I myself became a captive underground just as you are now," the Harbingers say, gesturing to their chests, "I had many years to ponder how I had come to be there, how I had fallen from such heights to such depths."

A finger is extended then, pointing down to the crowds, "You have also fallen, not just from victory and glory, but from the worship of beings that you now know were not worthy of it.

"You have now seen and realized the Dynasties you served claimed greater power, glory, and wisdom than they truly ever possessed, and that you gave them far greater loyalty than they deserved. Their arrogance led to this downfall. Your life as a warrior of the Dynasties is over."

There was a few shouts from the crowds spaced throughout the various cavern prisons but the Harbingers beckon silence with a finger extended and held in front of their faces before it speaks, "But the end of one life need not be the end of all. Your life in the service of the Dynsaties is dead by my hand, but I have come to offer a new life."

The holoscreens floating above them all flicker and change, showing images of Iti'a'Ropku and the citizens living alongside the Reconstructed. In particular a live broadcast of the celebration welcoming the osogo pilgrims to the grand city. The images change, showing the colosseum along with the races and gladitorial fights, the stands filled with cheering citizens.

"I have forged a new path. One free from the tyranny of the oppressive, where all can be free and strong together. Where all can strive to accomplishments and deeds worthy of the gift of life, and be rewarded for their efforts."

The screens shift, showing the bustling restaurants will races of all stripes mingle, of the plazas and amphitheaters where musicians and performs entertain the masses, of a classroom of young members of all kinds paying rapt attention to an osogo teacher.

"Where all are protected from the cruelty of the arrogant. Where we all find strength in each other. All who wish to join that new life in peace are free to do so."

The holoscreens change once more, showing a squad of Necrolyte Legionnaires of mixed races standing at attention, each wearing the Cauldron forged armor of the Armada. Shifting once more to a scenes taken from the Refuge crisis, of Legionnaires holding the line against swarms of undead thousands strong as they rescue survivors. Another shift and an audible reaction ripples through the crowds as footage from Rukor showing former Dynasty soldiers turned Legionnaires fighting to defend the ructu during the Invastion.

"Those who serve to protect this peace are worthy of even greater glory. All who wish it may serve and strive for greater strength among the Legion and achieve glory by their own merits expanding the peace and truth of the Wormstars light to those less fortunate and bent under the heel of tyranny."

The Harbingers image once more replace the images on the holoscreens as they extend a hand out as if in supplication to the prisoners, "To you all I grant this choice. Renounce the doctrine of your false gods, recognize the Ahkam are merely mortals just as you all are. Realize the potential you all have and take this opportunity to remake yourselves into something better, something more. We of the New Necrotic Armada will do all we can to assist you in this metamorphosis.

"The time of the Ahkam Dynasties are drawing ever closer to an end. Will you join me in freeing your brethren from enslavement?

"Will you join my Armada, walk my streets, feast upon my bounty, take shelter in my cities, fight in my Legion?

"Will you follow me, to Death and through it to Eternity?"

There was silence for several seconds throughout the caverns as the offer hung in the air. Finally something seemed to break the tension as shouts rang out, a good number of the captives shouting out in fury at the Harbingers with a few picking up items or food to throw at the Harbingers out of reach. It was disappointing to see their anger but it was expected, most having lived the totality of their lives without questioning the superiority of the Ahkam serpents.

However, it was the sizable portion of the captive population that did not shout or scream, but rather stood in silence with contemplative expressions or spoke in hushed voices among themselves. You knew it was perhaps to early to expect a mass pledge of loyalty but you could tell the seeds of dissent were sown and taking root in fertile minds.

They had already been shown the footage of Vle'Karak, Cve'jok, and Dne'tec renouncing they Dynasty and pledging their loyalty to the Armada and yourself. It was only a matter of time before that, this speech, and the dreams twisted by Dreamstone running all under their feet would show them the path to salvation among the Armada.

The Harbingers lift their hands but still the chaos continues with their outbursts. However your voice cuts through the din, each persons Domination Spike amplifying your words, "Heed my words, my friends. The Armada eagerly awaits you all. Follow the path of Vle'Karak and devote yourselves to a cause worth living for."

Your message delivered the Harbingers depart from the caverns, leaving the Reconstructed to calm the near riots and the rowdiest of the captives.

The moon of Horizon's Drop still recovered from the Empires attack with shipyards being rebuilt, rubble and debris cleared away, and the hulks of downed starships being cannibalized for scrap and eventual reconstruction into new ships.

However, far from the carnage the field of biodomes was lost mostly untouched. There, under a shield of refracted energy and pale light Vle'Karak spoke with a smaller and darker scaled green serpent. Vil'cva was young by Ahkam standards, only having his command for barely a century and one of the youngest of Quantac'Vrixs brood, but even then he was smaller than expected. However he still possessed great power over the Arc even if it did not measure up against even his elder brother Dne'tec let alone Cve'joks or Vle'Karaks.

His crimson eyes turn sharply to regard the Harbinger that emerged from the stairwell nearly hidden in the tall grasses transplanted from the large blue and green world looming over them. His forked tongue flicks out, tasting the air at its floating approach.

Vle'Karak turns and bows his head in greeting, the tips of his tail blades touching the horns above his brow, "Greetings, Jadyk."

The Harbinger gives a respectful bow before coming to take a seat in the air before the pair of serpents, "Hello, Vle'Karak. I hope things are going well."

The older serpent nods and motions to Vil'cva with a flick of his tail, "I have spoken to my nephew, the Scholar," he says, the translators detecting that the word held an inflection of scorn among the Ahkam but Vle'Karak speaks it with respect, "And he seems...agreeable to your demands."

Turning their eyeless gaze from the older serpent to the younger the Harbinger places a hand on their chest, "I don't believe I have made any true demands just yet."

This causes Vil'cva to speak for the first time since the Reconstructed approached, his voice cautious, "Your demands are easy to deduce, Lich-Lord. Service or Death, as the Butcher explained it," his head sways slightly from side to side as if sizing up the Harbinger, "You likely already know I have no taste for combat, not like my esteemed ancestor here. I know I was the first of my kin to surrender to your generals demands, that this ensures my death should any of my siblings get near me or I'm returned to the Dynasties."

Empathic sensors built into the Harbinger could detect apprehension and traces of fear within him, likely knowing his life was held in your hands as he spoke on, "I have heard Vle'Karak speak of why I should trust you, why I should cooperate," he slithers forward, closer to the Harbinger until he was nearly looming over it as his head sways while inspecting the undead, "If you would, share with me a reason beyond the promise of life lived as a prisoner. What does the mighty New Necrotic Armada require from me and what would it be willing to give that would make me and my family twist our coils and dedicate our blades and fangs to you?"

How should you reply?

Usually the offer is simple, serve in life or serve in death. It is a rather confronting notion as it is meant to impart that I have no quarrel with the individual only the indoctrination they have been subjected to that led them to try and confront me.

If one is able to see past the lies and chains they have grown up in bondage to they can see that I intend on fostering a future in which the weak may grow strong, as opposed the the strong growing fat off the weak. Part of why the Armada keeps growing is because people can sense the truth of it, and even the most indoctrinated eventually begin to see the light.

As for on an individual level I would like for you as I do any member who has submitted freely to the Armada, is to integrate and grow and when they are strong enough offer what they can to help the Armada grow and so on and on the cycle continues, so in truth you are asking me to tell you what your worth is when the real question is, now confronted with the freedom to choose perhaps for the first time in your life, in what way would you care to grow nd in doing so, discover your own worth?
>>
>>2499630
The Armada does not require anything of you that we can't just take when we reconstruct you eventually, but your cooperation and information will be appreciated and returned in kind.

The Harbinger taps its chin with a claw as it looks up at the serpent in silence for several seconds before it speaks, "The Armada does not require anything of you, Vil'cva," you say bluntly, causing both serpents to pull back in surprise as you continue, "However, your cooperation and information would be appreciated and returned in kind.

"Usually the offer is quite simple. Service in life or service in death. It is a rather comforting notion as it meant to impart that I have no quarrel with the individual, only the indoctrination that led to them to try and confront me. If one is able to see past the lies and chains they have grown up in bondage to they can see that I intend on fostering a future in which the weak may grow strong, as opposed to the strong growing fat off the weak."

The Harbinger motions upward to where a fleet moves past towing the remains of an Imperial battleship, "Part of why the Armada continues to grow is because people can sense the truth of it, and even the most indoctrinated eventually begin to see the light.

"As for on an individual level I would like for you as I do any member who has submitted freely to the Armada. To integrate and grow and when they are strong enough offer what they can to help the Armada grow and so on and on the cycle continues."

Vle'Karak speaks up, breaking into the conversation and drawing the gaze of both Vil'cva and the Harbinger, "I can attest to this. Without the Armada and Jadyk, I would still be beholden to the whims of the Dynasties and fighting until I met my death on some nameless battlefield," He focuses his remaining eye on the younger greenscale, "It has long been known you did not relish the same glories of conquest and battle that your siblings and mother did. Speaking as blunt and base as possible, the Armada is likely your only chance to live in a way that weighs easily on your mind."

The Harbinger gives a thankful nod to the serpent then meets the gaze of the younger greenscale, "In truth you are not asking me to tell you what your worth is when the real question is this," the Harbinger extends a thin finger toward him, "For the first time in your life you are confronted with the freedom to choose without the weight of an entire Dynasty pressing down on you, to select the path of your future and the impact you will leave on the galaxy, and it scares you, doesn't it?"

Vil'cva pulls back almost as if struck at the accusation, the serpent clearly still possessing some of the natural pride of the Ahkam. Their tongue lashes out indignantly as they silently fume before their slow, measured voice answers, "I should have expected the entity that convinced the legendary Vle'Karak and loyal Cve'jok to twist the coil to have a gift for speech and insight," he says with a hiss of bitterness.

Lowering his gaze toward the grasses and the small creatures that scurried amid them without realizing just how far from their home they truly were, the serpent falls silent again for several long moments, "Did you know, Vle'Karak? That one day when I awoke on my ship, eager to begin another cycle of research a revelation came to me?

"I looked out across my research team, each a master of their respective fields that I had carefully cultivated and gathered around me, but I did not see their strategic worth, immense as they were," he lifts his head, his gaze firmly locked on Vle'Karak, "Rather, I realized I saw them as a family I had somehow built around me. It took me days to realize that was the term for the feeling, that the members of my team and crew, those who lived to serve me, were closer to me than any of my siblings or mother," his tone takes on a defiance, as if daring either of you to challenge him as he continues, "That is why I was the first to surrender. I did not want my family to die because of some conflict my mother ended up getting herself killed over."

Red eye shift over to the Harbinger, the empathic sensors within detecting a sudden fierce determination with the bright glimmers of hope shining at his core, "You will have my allegiance, Lich-Lord. The Dynasties are a rotten corpse-empire that must be culled or else it will continue to spread its venom through the galaxy. With your aid, I can accomplish so much more than on my own.

"If your message of peace and freedom is true, then I will join you, freely and willingly," he rears up pridefully, bladed tail flicking slightly, "For the good of those enslaved by my kind and those kept under their coils, I will follow you and my betrayer kin."

Disbelief welled in Vle'Karak but also a sense of pride as he watched the smaller serpent posturing before the Harbinger.

"It would seem you already know my truth, even if you had not heard it yet," the Harbinger says with a soft laugh before giving a deep bow to the serpent, "I accept your loyalty, Vil'cva, the Merciful Scholar. With the Armada your thirst for knowledge and justice shall be sated."

I think we should put him as the head of one of our science lab, to test his capacity. He seems to be of the "Head scientist" kind rather than a pure scientific.

Basically just say "well as a member of the Armada you are free to browse various research and if you wish for yourself augmentation all the information is available (minus weapons tech etc..atm anyway)- and voluntary though symbiots are highly recommended for those who wish to join the legion though not mandatory due to its very nature bring somewhat more mentally invasive. But before making any decisions please feel free to enjoy your freedom and when your ready to move forward speak with any of the reconstructed if you need anything.

In regards to possibly reconstructing the enemy necromancer from Refuge, and with the two (willing) disciples that recently regained their memories, I wonder what would happen if a subject had their brain removed before reconstruction and what effect that would have on the end product. I assume in the distant past Jadyk has reconstructed both willing and unwilling necromancers without issue but I find myself wondering what would happen if strong willed foes, or enemies with potent necrotic affinity, start to retain their memories and what could be done to prevent that. Of course it may be the case that memory retention may only take place with willing reconstructed, or those that are both willing and elementally attuned, but in the future, there may be those willing to be reconstructed that are unwilling to serve.

With Vil'cva's pledge of loyalty to your cause your mind slips free of the Harbinger and inform the Deep Rot to search the prisoners for the crew that had been with the serpent during his surrender. Think Tanks are sent to gather them and inform them of their masters change in loyalty with the intent of detecting if any were any more unwilling than the serpent. Having an Ahkam willingly working as a researcher would mean great strides in accelerating your knowledge of the Arc far greater than compelling Dne'tec or Cve'jok against their will.

With you mind cast free, your body seated in your throne somewhere in Iti'a'Ropku you follow a whim and cast your vision out through the Reconstructed web. Like motes of Necrotic light in a comforting darkness you drift between them, each a window into their sight. There were some among them that shone brighter than their common castes and you suspected them to be those rare Reconstructed that began developing their own individuality but you did not want to risk smothering such delicate embers just yet with your presence.

You look through the mind of a 'domestic' Talon working in one of the restaurants near the Colosseum. The midmorning rush was there, late sleepers taking their meals and chatting among themselves. The eating hall was large and open to the street lacking proper walls beyond several support pillars. A number of tables of various sizes were scattered about with customers seated on hardlight constructs, the variety of races in the Armada making hardlight furniture a must-have for any public 'business' that may open.

The air was thick with the smell of cooking food coming from the open kitchen area where a team of citizens quickly cooked, talking and laughing among each other. They were led by an unlikely pair of friends, a heavy set human man and an osjiic whose left hand was replaced with a hardlight construct that shifts between cooking utensils. The human had been a chef from Clour and the osjiic a soldier grunt captured in the early days of the Armadas formation and the pair found common ground in their appreciation for cuisine.

The Talon lifting up a platter heaped high with bowls and plates of hot food that a Troll handed them with a quick exchange of grunts. The Talon nimbly carrying the platter and weaving around other Reconstructed and customers to a table where a few visiting pirates were animatedly talking with locals over a pit-fight they seemed to lose quite a bit of money over the night before. Few seemed to pay the Talon any mind beyond when it slides over bowls and plates but a vorh citizen gives a thankful click of the mandibles which the Talons mimics perfectly before scurrying off to pick up the next order.

The vorh glances at the incredulous looks of the pirates, the other citizens not seeming to find it odd but the vorh tilts their head curiously, "What?"

"They talk back now?" one asks.

"They're smarter than they look," the vorh replies with a shrug.

Conversing with the Think Tanks mind to mind was quite fast, faster than if you had spoken with them physically or through a Harbinger. They quickly fill you in on their progress with the ill-lucked psionics research.

What started out as a curiosity delving into the Crystalline Minds telekinetic crystals that led to the development of the Dirge Crystal and an accident involving the mental reading research and clones has actually started to link several phenomena.

From personal experience and observing Necromancers, even those who follow a differing doctrine or discipline, your latent telekinesis was tied with the power Necrotic in someway. While it was true you were immensely powerful in that regard, a memory of tearing a temple free from the earth and levitating it skyward drifting through your mind, telekinetic powers were seen elsewhere such as the Crystalline Minds.

With the backlash in the mental reading lab the Think Tanks discovered what they have apprehensively called "Psionic Energy" with some theories stating it could be a fifth elemental force.

However, as research started into the nature of "Psionics" itself the Think Tanks eventually came to realize that the Psionic Energy was actually the same energy force that other elemental entities, Necromancers and Undead the foremost example, were capable of draining from lifeforms.

With this realization it appears that the Life Energy Sponges spaced throughout all of Armadan structures where the living resided were more accurately Psionic Energy Sponges.

While the Think Tanks are still in the midst of researching the implications of this new force revealed and how it ties into the other Elements, they have reached a blockade. Clones they have attempted to use to study this energy and finding ways to naturally manipulate it has met with repeated failures and backlashes, the clones brains sometimes quite literally liquefied or cooked by the energies.

The Think Tanks, with the processing power of the Deep Rot supporting them, have come to the conclusion that they cannot progress with their research without searching the living citizens of the Armada and attempting to find test subjects. They theorize that if this Psionic energy is anything like the other four, there should be members of the living who are capable of tapping into it such as Necromancers, Arcdancers, Voidsingers, and Arbiters are capable of with their respective energies.

>Think Tanks with the Psionics research request they be allowed to search through the living population of the Armada in search of potential Psionic sensitive individuals.

How will you answer their plea?

Permission granted, however proceed with caution while testing and follow ethical standards when recruiting volunteers among the population. Lets not repeat the mistake we made with the original inmortals.
>>
>>2507131

Give them our blessing.

Compose an announcement to our people:

"People of our great Armada, know that with time, we always seek to push our knowledge forward, both so that we may help those who need assistance (Flash images of our more peaceful assistance stuff, maybe images of the cooks etc) as well as so we can protect those in need (Images of necrolyte legion assisting vs Zombies etc).

In order to expand our ever growing knowledge of the universe in which we live we ask for volunteers! Fear not, we will treat each volunteer with care and respect, however there may be dangers inherent in pursuit of our growth. All who wish to volunteer come forward to speak to us at your earliest convenience.

Should any harm befall volunteers, know that we will look after you however you need, and should, Wormstar forbid, the worst happen, then your family will be heavily compensated.

Face Death, and through it into eternity!"
>>
>>2507183
I would say gather those who are found to be potentially psionic and then them give them the speech
>>
>>2507211

Yeah, but AFAIK we can't tell at the moment?

But if we can tell, then definitely this!
>>
>>2507131
With the Refuge Crisis still fresh in your mind and knowing it's origin lay with one of your past experiments, you knew you had to be cautious with this.

You tell them to begin the search for psionic potentials, but to restrict the search to those already loyal citizens to lessen the threat of betrayal. Before you dismiss them however you state that you would like to speak with these potentials before any stage of the research begins, the Think Tanks ready to complain about how it would hinder progress, but you stand firm in your decision.

With their request granted the citizenry of Iti'a'Ropku, Legion's Home, and Vyi'a'Rthun would start seeing more demi-Think Tanks drifting overhead as their scanners passed over them in silence.

This new revelation about Psionic energy and the fact that it was what fueled your Necrotic might made you as curious as the Think Tanks. However, with the Masked and the Three, not to mention the revelation of the incorporeal Daemons, you knew that caution was required.

The Masked would play their games and weave their plots, but you were loathe to give them ammunition to use against you. The knowledge that it was an Immortal that caused the crisis with nine more unaccounted for out in the Universe was enough to set you on edge. You could only imagine what your enemies could do if they found one of your reluctant runaway Immortals.

Pushing the unpleasant thoughts from your mind you turn toward a relevant loose end, your mind solidly settling into your physical form as your throne floats just before the med-pod containing the unconscious Necromancer that was used by one of the Immortals to drive the undead threat of Refuge.

They floated in the bio-gel, a mask sealed over their face to provide air as their hands were manacled in solid bone. A trio of Dirges surrounded the pod like a protective guard, the creaking of crystal marking where a much larger Requiem was seated in an unmoving meditative pose several yards behind it.

While the Control Worm latched onto his spine could not peer fully into his mind and twist him into a compliant servant, it could still utilize its chemical fabricator. Adrenaline began to rush through the humans veins, the floating figure twitching a few times before his eyes burst open and he starts to struggle sluggishly but a mild dose of sedatives calms his panic as the bio-gel is drained.

No longer worried about drown the human reaches up and tries to pull the mask from their face but the solid shackles stop him. It seems to take him a few moments of staring in confusion at the shackles before his wits returned and he started looking through the glass of the pod with renewed panic.

The glass slides open and he nearly falls out of it before the Dirges catch him in their invisible grip and lifted upright. The mask is removed and the breathing tube pulled free causing him to sputter and cough.

Shaking his head the bald human was dripping the remains of the bio-gel he catches his breath, weakly leaning into the telekinetic grip of the Dirges.

"Martin Graim, xenobiologist and xenobotanist of the Worllunan colony, you have much to account for."

Slowly he lifts his gaze, fear starting rise in him as his eyes followed the voice and fell upon you. Seated in your throne, chin propped on your knuckles as you leaned against the armrest as your talons clacked against the other. He coughs, spitting out a glob of gel and saliva, "W-who are you? Where am I?"

"I am the Lich-Lord Jadyk, creator of the Immortal being that granted you the power Necrotic and your jailor. You are in my grasp, where I wish you to be," you lean forward then, fingers interlocking as you observed the human with motes of green light shining in the depths of your sockets.

What shall you question of him?

Tell me of your descent into Necrotic-induced madness. Tell me of when you met the Immortal.
The more we know about the Immortals(how they "appeared", their affect on others, powers and potential viewpoints, the better.

Lets begin with your relationship with the Immortal. How did you come in contact with him? When and where did this happen? Are you aware of any contact he had with others outside the Refuge system?

Also, one thing I should have asked. Jor is currently getting ready for his "Vacation" and is at the celebration welcoming the Pilgrims.

Did you wish to summon him or another Necromancer to join you for this?

Before I go to bed, just wanna hrow my 2 cents in. This guy was likely screwed over with dreams of grandeur and the Necrotic fucking up his mind. He must serve penance, but that cant be done as a reconstructed. If hes not crazy, put him to use. Hes kind of like what Jor would have been if we had done things like the Immortal.

"Tell me of your descent into Necrotic-induced madness, tell me of when you met the Immortal," you demand as you glare down at the human who finally manages to stand under his own strength.

He squints up at you in confusion for a few moments until fear wells up inside him with realization and a sharp intake of air, "H-how can anyone contain that much..." he whispers to himself as the symbiot detects his adrenaline rising sharply of its own accord but the powerful drugs it pumped into his blood kept him mostly calm behind starting to sweat and breath harder.

The sharp sound of your fingers snapping seems to draw his attention, "I have little patience for anyone that wastes my time, particularly when I deign to use my true form. I wish to know of how you came to be a Necromancer. Start with that."

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wYqviIWwyZI

With the symbiots help he manages to calm down enough, a deep breath steadying him before he spoke with a shaky voice, "I-I can hardly remember... I was conducting a survey to grow new crops," he lowered his eyes to look at the stone floor while delving into his memories, "Boring work but it let me explore a bit on my own, see the planet. I-I found a sinkhole leading into a cavern system..."

He squints then coughs a few times, spitting out another glob of gel and saliva and continues in his somewhat dazed voice, "Found something in there, something old, something ancient had crashed. A ship I think. Inside everything was nearly destroyed but then I found it..." he trails off and lifts his eyes to yours, the iris an unnatural crimson from Necrotic corruption.

"A canister made out of bone. It looked like it was grown into the shape, not carved... I could... feel something, hear it, inside calling me," he lifts up his bound hands and takes another deep breath, "But before I could open it, I heard something else, a voice.

"I turned around and saw them, the undead you called an Immortal..." they give a shaky laugh, shaking their head, "I thought they would kill me, but then they repeated themselves, asking me a question..."

You lean forward and reach your hand out, a telekinetic nudge forcing him to lift his chin and look into your burning sockets, "What did they ask you?"

His eyes stare at you as he feels the invisible pressure holding him in place tightening proportionately to your shrinking patience, "He asked me, 'Do you wish to have power? To feed the gnawing hunger of your soul? Join me and I will show you how to slake it.'" He licks his lips then turns his eyes to stare at Jor who had entered the chamber before he had even begun to speak.

>cont
>>
>>2507520
His voice cracks with a short, mad sounding laugh that wells up from him as he seems to recognize Jor, "They recognized something in me, showed me how to reach out and take it for myself," his eyes flit back to you, a manic energy rising behind them, "They told me of you... Jadyk! Even those Masked bastards spoke of you!" he starts to laugh again until he quickly falls into a coughing fit, falling slack against the telekinetic grip that held him aloft.

You let out a soft sigh of annoyance, a firmly therapeutic habit since you hardly required air. Tapping your clawtips together you glance over to Jor as he strode forward with staff in hand but lacking his armor forged from the corpse of the slain Immortal they discussed. A scowl was firmly set on his face as he stared at the rogue Necromancer he had fought to take down, the Control Worm in him detecting nothing but a cold hatred for the pitiful captive.

Turning your gaze back to Necromancer Graim you force him to look at you once more, "Did they ever speak of their goals? Of other Immortals they knew of?"

He stares at you for a few moments in silence before he grins slowly with a cocky confidence, "Oh they would not shut up about their goals... They hated you with every fiber of their unnatural self. They spoke of creating an army, an Armada, to find and slaughter you in revenge for stealing what made them -them- and all those others you have used to raise yourself up. They said they were alone, believing themself to be the only survivor of your experiments," he lets out another deranged laugh that makes Jor tense with restrained fury, "I thought they were ridiculous! You, you!"

He starts to shake with laughter and thrusts his shackled hands toward you, the fingers locked in place in the bone construct similar to the ones used on the rowdiest of tyrre prisoners, "You made them beautiful and might! Just look at yourself and these!" he gestures wildly toward the Dirges that had drifted closer in complete silence then whips around to stare at Jor once again but continues to speak to you, "You made them into a perfected being, an Immortal rightfully named, and they granted me the thing I desired my entire life..."

His eyes snap back to you, a fevered intensity blazing in his eyes, "Thank you!" he shouts suddenly, falling to his knees and bowing his head while lifting his hands in supplication, "Thank you thank you thank you... without creating them, I would never become a Necromancer, never commanded millions, never feasted on all of those... deliciousss souls..."

>cont
>>
>>2507523

His laughter continues, shifting into a manic sobbing before returning back to the maddened glee as he knelt before you, "I am yours! Allow me to continue to serve you in life, I will break entire star systems for you, allow me to set the Confederacy aflame! I know the Blight Hunger, I can control it better than anyone if you let me!"

He continues to laugh and sob interchangeably as he knelt before you in supplication, begging to keep him alive and in your service.

Blood began to run down the handle of the bone staff, Jors knuckles white from how hard he gripped the weapon in his anger.

Do you wish to attempt drawing out more information or say anything to him before passing judgement?

>>
>>2507524
....Well. that guy is fucking nuts.

but he makes an intresting point on the blight hunger. We can not use it, that is as simple as is because utalising a terror weapon that we helped to stop is bad for our reputation and could make people think that we released it in the first place so we could go in and earn everyone's good graces.

But on the same score, it is still a weapon, one we could try to alter into something else. Possibly a mind control plauge, without the undead element?

and Ask jor for his [probably murderous] thoughts
>>
We do still have a Blight Hunger problem on that space station / city we're currently trying to recover and rescue people from.

But he can't be trusted. He's more likely to align himself with whatever is running that outbreak than us, especially when we make it clear we're trying to wipe out the Blight Hunger.

Despite the apparently deranged mind of the Necromancer before you there was a part of yourself that was mild amused, thinking to yourself you wished that all of your captives would so willingly pledge themselves to you.

Turning your gaze away from the kneeling human you toward Jor, his symbiot feeling his rage burning within but he looks up to you as you speak to him, "Tell me Jor, what would you think? What would you do? Servitude in life, or in death, which fits him better?"

Lips curling back into a contemptuous sneer as he looks back at the other human, his voice thick with cold hatred and contempt, "As I said before, Lord Jadyk. That creature is not worth life in our Armada," Martin snaps up his head to glare at Jor who meets it with his own as he continues, "I would not even wish that he become a General in your care but he has the potential for certain."

You give a slow nod, a talon tapping your chin as he starts to rise and protect but with a lift of Jors hand Martin finds himself held down. They begin to resist each other in a silent stare-down but you knew Jor held the upperhand even without the Dirges amplifying his power. The rogue necromancer lets out a cry of pain as he was forced roughly back down onto his knees by Jor and forced to remain kneeling, the weakened Martin panting where he knelt.

Your prized student turns his cold eyes back to you, the dark veins around his eyes softening to normal as he calmed somewhat, "If you must keep him alive, throw him into that torture device the Wayward Disciple crafted. It is too kind of a punishment but it should do."

Interlocking your fingers together you lean back in your throne in silent contemplation. It was true what Jor said, the rogue Necromancer, after feasting upon the horror and flesh of countless beings in the Refuge system, had grown fat upon the power Necrotic. He would make a powerful general, the very first of the truly Necrotic gifted as you never had the opportunity to Reconstruct a proper Necromancer, the thought of subjecting any of your students or the loyal Blackscale long forgotten.

His skill at controlling the Blight Hunger virus could be useful however with the Barqalan outbreak and potential future outbreaks, but you did not trust them to fully serve you if they count. Not to mention you held confidence in the Solar Arbiters capability of rooting out the heart of the infection.

Still it was a conundrum, should you force the cruel Penance Array onto him he could tell you even more, perhaps even his knowledge into the Masked but you knew that could draw their ire.

What shall you do with him?

>>2507588
I can understand the reason for Jor's anger, how ever I believe that we should use the necromancer to make a general but we should also explain to jor that this is a prize example of how the necrotic can go, and Martins current state is a direct result of the Immortal research project, and this broken shell of a man could just have easily been Jor had he been in the same situation. Point in example, the hunger, Jor has felt it when he has taken his leave of our capital and its calming nature [Ambient energy crystals] on the elementalist's more extreme dispositions [Necrotics hunger, Voids rage and consumption, Arc's...desire to bind thing etc. ]

Martin is more deserving of pity rather than rage, had we been able to reach him before he was brocken perhaps he could have been converted how ever as he is, there is too much potential for problems and so he should be reconstructed. If Martin starts to complain we explain we will rebuild him into something greater, but something new since killing him would be too great a waste of valuable materials.

The secondary issue is his knowledge, if we could attain it, we might be able to gain control over the disease how ever if the Netu found out the necromancer responsible was being kept alive it could damage our image with the pirates and with the refuge system.

Any information given by the Mask is inconsequential as 1, they will be angered by us asking into their affairs and 2 anything they told him would have been a lie carefully worded with half truths that could only be discerned in hind site. The only info we could get from him that might be of use would be if he knew about the other immortals plans and or their locations but as broken as he is, i doubt it would be of worth.

TLDR version:
Martin is a cautionary Tale for the other necromancers on the danger of power abuse regarding the necrotic and the catastrophic effects it can have.

Dump him in vat, let us finally make a Truly powerful Necrotic General so Tlacex does not feel so lonely
>>
>>2507673
My one hesitation about reconstructing him is him regaining his former memories. But other generals have regained former memories from before they served us, and even fought against us. Maybe it's not so bad.

If we asked Jor to participate in the reconstruction, would he be more likely and careful to wipe out his former negative qualities, or would his hatred for Martin prevent Jor from making the most of him?
>>
>>2507678
Come to think of it, what did Jor/we end up doing with that crypt-keeper undead custodian/servant of Ruscuv, the one that got handed over to us and that Jor also hated? I remember having a choice to make but I forget what happened.
>>
>>2507588
>>Be done with it and kill him, Reconstruction is too good for him
This is our new way, we cannot allow the predations of the undead on the living to go unpunished.
>>
>>2507673
I completely disagree, he clearly choose to walk the path he did because he was always a power hungry sociopath. The plague at the Refuge system wasn’t about conquering the system but playing with his powers and the lives of inhabitants. In the final hours of the conflict he demonstrated he could coordinated the hordes of undead but previously he just let them run wild. And his knowledge is a poisoned chalice, more likely to bring shame and ruin than anything we might want in our new Armanda. We have seen the consequences of our unethical experiments with the immortals and you are suggesteding we walk that road again with this creature as our guide. Reconstruction would be a reward for him and we should not give him that to him
>>
>>2507682
We turned him into Jor's weapon.

>>2507673
His knowledge can easily be stripped from him, he doesn't need to be alive or even sentient for it. Hook his brain into a tank and have them pick it clean then turn it into goop.

I don't know what set of morals you're viewing this from but turning an entire planet into a zombie apocalypse nightmare because he didn't know better or whatever is far, far beyond what I can possibly forgive. If you turn into an insane megalomaniac then you are an insane megalomaniac, he sure as shit didn't show any remorse for what he did, if he even understands what was wrought by his hands. Immortal and Masked influence is no excuse either. They have interfered with us, with Jor, With Rethak, the Wayward Disciple and many others and none of them went nuts.

I agree with you though that there is a lesson to be learned. I think we need to gather all the disciples, not only necrotic, and make sure they see and understand that if this happens to them there is nothing that will save them. If they go rogue or insane they will be put down like animals.
We're playing on a galactic scale, at this level you don't get a slap on the wrist.

Should we make his trial a public spectacle or just keep it on the down low? I'm sure it'll earn us some good boy points but it can also draw attention to our involvement that we don't need.
>>
>>2507678
Only those willingly reconstructed and devoured to the worm star keep the memories. Non of the others have been able to recall anything. So far just the two devotees from the refuge crisis who requested reconstruction

>>2507682
Used his soul to make a soulbound weapon and his head and bones to make a helmet

>>2507725
>>2507701
He could make a powerful unit and we would get an idea of what Joe might become if he decides to transcend him humanity as we do not yet have a Human stock commander
>>
>>2507751
Think crack head, only all he needs for fix is a living entity and you might understand why a necromancer who not trained properly or has someone to restrain them during their first feeding so they don't overdose on the necrotic and become dependant on it.

Prime example would be reading Jor's initiation, its a hell of a rush and Martin is an example of someone being made addicted to crack and then unleashed on a planet where everyone is made out of his favourite drug.

I don't care about Martin as an individual at this time, the person died at refuge regardless, how ever I do believe he is a good.. example to the Necromancers and others of the dangers of giving into ones hunger etc.

I would argue we should just reconstruct him. Let him serve in death
>>
>>2507755
>Only those willingly reconstructed and devoured to the worm star keep the memories.
Pure speculation. Those are the only known cases of a new phenomena previously unheard of.

Come back when we have a sample size in the thousands spanning a century or two, then we can draw conclusions.

we should know how to use this blight hunger or at least control it. it helps more than hurts.

>>
>>2508052
We already have a cure and vaccine, he is useless unless we want to further develop the plague and I firmly opposed that
>>
>>2508103
a cure indeed, but if we can learn to control it, we can command it to stop in its place. simply letting our troops mow them down

or if "control" simply means "direct" then we can direct the hoards into a kill zone and make the prossess that much more effecient. Also, knowledge for the sake of knowledge
>>
>>2508177
Like I said before, it’s a tainted chalice. But if you insist on getting his knowledge let’s put his brain in a jar he will be harmless and properly punish, instead of fucking rewarding him with reconstruction.
>>
>>2508276
i mean, brain in the jar sure.....

But if we don't reconstruct him, it may be a while before we find a suitable replacement. And if he does get his memories back, he is gonna be a happy camper and "probably" not betray us.
>>
>>2508289
There is us, ruscuv and burning skeleton guy, we've got high tier necromancy covered for a long while and I'll wager that all of us are good enough to command and wave magic sticks at things. We also have loyal blackscales who know their shit and we don't know what kind of goodies they'll find at the secret compound. It wouldn't surprise me if there are going to be researchers and creations with necrotic potential and knowledge.
>>
>>2507588

>Be done with it and kill him, Reconstruction is too good for him

We could let Jor reconstruct him into something useful perhaps? He would be a useful general but I cant think of anything powerful enough to utterly enslave such a powerful being. Might be useful turned into some construct for jor like birdgeneral's mount, strong yet pretty much mindless without its owner.
>>
Maybe there is a middle ground where we can strip him of all his knowledge (penance array or other method, whatever works) and use him and his necrotic power as raw material for something, but not to be reconstructed as a general.
>>
>>2508309
Ruscuv is following us "For now" and is a melee Girl, not a magic girl.

And Zekrul, isnt an ally [yet] and is a perfect example for someone who may be too powerful to reconstruct... but that remains to be seen.

>>2507949
You are correct we haven't had enough tests in this field to know for certain.

If only we had a decently power necrotic wielding individual of an opposing god to test reconstruction on in a controlled environment, someone who is so, mentally broken they would have a great deal of difficulty hiding their insanity.
Its a shame we do not have such a perfect test subject for such a specific field of research?.

But in all seriousness, we could keep him under heavy surveillance, have him near Jaydk, Tlacex or Valresko at all times until he is 100% proven secure.
I mean we did it on Valresko, he was literally the enemy in every sense of the word from his elemental origins, religion indoctrination, and he has proven a truly worthy asset, and yet i have heard no fear over his turning, or Angona's or Nekris, or Tlacex, in fact for Any of the enemies we have turned into generals.

Just killing him and not using the resources he provides would be very wasteful indeed for a faction who's whole driving force is the conversion and corruption of defeated enemies
>>
>>2509413
>I mean we did it on Valresko, he was literally the enemy in every sense of the word from his elemental origins, religion indoctrination, and he has proven a truly worthy asset

OK, that is not a bad point. A Sunscale is about as hostile to us as it gets. But they're sorta lawful good and devoted to their deities too, aren't they? There might be more danger involved in someone self-serving and deceitful that lusts for destruction and consumption of life. Then again, we've changed a lot, and change is part of the core ethos of the Armada. I guess the problem is that Martin's current core ethos is direct against us - to consume life greedily and without any foresight or purpose beyond lust for destruction and domination.

I did not expect this decision to get this difficult.
>>
>>2509413
>I mean we did it on Valresko, he was literally the enemy in every sense of the word

I'll argue that we were in a different position back then with a less defined set of morals and guidelines for ourselves and the armada. An insane rogue necromancer is worse PR for us than anything else. It's one thing to have defectors or traitors from different species and elements, it can be explained away but we're worshipped as a God by some despite our wishes. If we can't control undead and necrotic in our domain it will be a disaster.
>>
>>2510270
if we are lucky or clever, we could try and spin this as penitence for the other races and factions.

If we make him into a general or other beast, then we can feed anyone who wishes to know a cock and bull story about "he snapped out of his power induced daze and realized the horror of what he had done begging forgiveness. The armada is the place of second chances and so he was given new purpose"

But no matter what happens, just killing him is a waste. and >>2509337 sounds like a rather nice middle ground

The question of what to do with this Necromancer was quite perplexing. Since your freedom you had not encountered another Necromancer as strong as this not already in your service. You knew they could be Reconstructed into a powerful General, converting the power that controlling the Blight Hunger had granted them.

However, the fact that two of your Disciples have recovered the memories of their life cast a shadow of doubt upon the prospect. While you knew both subjects were loyal, and in fact volunteered for Reconstruction after falling during the operation to capture the very same Necromancer, it was a threat nonetheless. Even Valresko has fallen to scrutiny from Ruscuv in light of this fact, knowing he was created from an entity diametrically opposed to the Necrotic and undeath. However, none of your other Generals, those created from the stock of prisoners gained through war and sacrificed to the Cauldrons, have ever shown a hint of remembering their previous lives.

His offer to control the Blight Hunger for you was tempting, perhaps being the answer to the disaster brewing on Barqalan and cleaning up Refuge. Though without his symbiot exerting full control over him beyond chemical and hormonal influences you were uncertain if the risk was worth it.

The thought to use the Penance Array devised by your Wayward Disciple also lurked in your mind, already suggested by Jor.

You glance toward the dark-skinned Necromancer who stood next to your throne and glared down at the supplicating figure before you. It was a deeply personal matter to him you knew, the mission to capture him Jor's first proper endeavor guiding soldiers in combat. Jor was loathe to admit it but you had heard him talking with Rethak, the Deep Rot hearing every word spoken or signed in the Armada, about his guilt over those lost during the operation and how the Voidsinger was mortally wounded.

You wondered if Jor saw something of himself in his fellow human necromancer, a dark path he could have followed if you had completely forgone mercy during your rise to power after gaining your freedom.

As if sensing your thoughts Jor looks up to you and motions in the direction of Martin with his staff, the petrified Talon skull yawning slightly in its simple-minded hunger, "Lord Jadyk, what will you do with him?"

What indeed. It is time to decide the Necromancers fate for good.

...We will encounter more such crazies and simply dumping them into the cauldron wont give us understanding of them, which will help us deal with their kind later on. However, he is still a crazy asshole and must become aware of the breadth of his crimes. If, once his knowledge is drained and he has finished his "experience" in the Array, he is unchanged, then reconstruct him.
Also, option 1 is rather stupid. NO ONE is to evil, too good, too great or too little to be reconstructed.

After some silent debate with yourself you finally give a sharp nod, "Very well," and look down at the human before you, "Martin Graim," you say, drawing the red eyed gaze of the necromancer.

"Yes, Lord Jadyk?" he says, his eyes still set into a maddened stare.

"Once, your actions would have pleased me, back during the Necrotic Wars when I served the Undying Council," he seems to light up with excitement but you hold up a hand to keep him silent, "However, in this new era and with this new Armada, your actions are unforgivable but your knowledge could be of use to us."

The ecstatic look fades from his face, replaced with confusion then fear as he finds himself suddenly lifted into the air by your invisible grasp, "W-wait! What are you doing?! I only wish to serve you!"

"And serve you shall, but right now, you must serve your Penance," you say the last word in the Wormtongue, making the human flinch and Jor grin cruelly.

With a motion of your hand the disparate pieces of a freshly forged Penance Array fly forth from the darkness of the chamber. The solid bone shackles shatter suddenly, dropping to the ground below where he was lifted up and his limbs forced to spread wide.

The plates of the armor flew at him, piecing itself together portion by portion, the largest carrying spikes that viciously impale the now screaming Necromancer. Blood started to drip to the floor as more and more of the suit was literally bolted to his form, the mechanisms of the device tearing into the flesh of their host. The pieces link together, muscle and sinew growing and linking as your telekinetically craft the Array around him.

The suit was darkened bone, almost looking like they had been charred, the cruel device engulfing the human. Bands of bone snap shut around the throat, needles puncturing the spine and uniting with the Control Worm in his gut.

Finally four oversized spiraling Domination Spikes fly forth, circling the human who fights through the pain to stare at them in mounting horror. Each was a spiral of a spike nearly three feet long, a barbed circle of metal at one end and the other a viciously sharp point. He tries to shout but the restraints around his neck strangle the words as the spikes are positioned behind his back where gaps in the armor waited. They spin like drills then, the human staring frantically over his back until they drive forward suddenly, impaling him and drawing an agonized scream that reverberates in the darkened chamber.

Jor's expression had turned from cruel enjoyment to one of grim faced determination as he witnesses the cruelty of the Penance Array. From his symbiot you could sense his enjoyment of the torture fade, leaving behind a stern determination.

>>2517095
Finally the agony was too much for the human who promptly passes out, his head falling limp against the restraints of the armor. From four spots in his torso the points of the spikes protruded, dripping crimson drops to the floor and staining the armor. Already the symbiot and the systems of the prison suit were working to stabilize him but with a wave of your hand the Dirges take hold of the human and pull him back into the medpod that quickly begins filling with the bio-gel once more.

You turn your gaze from the contained human who would be ejected from the pod quickly enough toward your most trusted servant, "Are you dissatisfied, First Necromancer?"

Your voice draws his attention away from Martin, his own red-tinged eyes meeting your burning sockets. After a few moments of silence he shakes his head, "No, Lich-Lord. He will serve his penance and we will take his knowledge," he turns back to the pod, his thoughts hard to predict as he stood in silence for several long moments before he speaks again, "When you Reconstruct him... I think you should ask Red-Leaf-Strains for help rather than I. I trust her judgement better than my own."

He turns his back on the pod and moves toward the exit of the chamber but stops and speaks again, "Who knows, maybe the Matrons touch is what he needs to ensure whatever he becomes is worthy of our Armada."

You say nothing as he walks away after his suggestion, observing the contained Necromancer for now. His words concerning the "Masked bastards" had intrigued you. You had suspected their involvement with the Immortal and making the introduction but you were uncertain just how much of the Refuge Crisis was by their guidance.

>Martin Graim the rogue Necromancer has been sealed within a Penance Array for the time being

>First Necromancer Jor recommends that when it comes time to Reconstruct him that Red-Leaf-Strains take his place, not trusting his own judgement
Now that's fascinating. Both because of the personal issues it reveals, and how much self-awareness and good judgment it shows that Jor recognizes and acknowledges them.

Apparently he thinks that someone more benevolently constructive with Necrotic powers would do better than someone that hates the subject.

With the Penance Array already hard at work breaking through the mental barriers of the Necromancer and Jor returning to resume the start of his 'vacation' you turn your minds to other matters that need tending to.

Among those that were already awaiting your touch it seemed that others had arisen while you dealt with the Necromancers punishment.

While you still planned to speak with the Eldertree of Yrre-1 to finalize your visit to the Worldtree, you were also curious to see how the Harbinger dubbed 'Friendly Fossil' by the Armatocere locals had been carrying on without your oversight in recent days.

It seemed the Eldertree was not the only Armatocere that wish to speak with you, the pale Necromancer Sapling requesting an audience alongside the stunted cacti. They awaited you just above in the higher reaches of the Necromancers Spire.

To your surprise there is a notice of an audience request from someone you had not expected. The parents of David, the first child to be born under your reign and given your personal mark as a blessing, wished to speak with you if you had the time.

Which of these matters should you tend to first?

A cool breeze blew gently past the balcony overlooking the grand plaza where the celebration was continuing on strong. It was a small crowd of people, most seated on hardlight and sharing light conversations while playing cards while others mingled and enjoyed the day, the sounds of music and smells of cooking food wafted up toward them. The conversations fell momentarily silent as you drifted into their midst and past them.

With a small motion of your hand you nod to the crowd, "Do not mind me, carry on," you say with a pleasant tone and drift over to the couple that stood from the table they were eating their lunch at.

The human couple give bows at your approach and greet you formally but you give a dismissive motion of hand, "Please be at ease. I am happy to speak with you," you say, even as you look to the Talon standing between them holding a young toddler sized child that clung to it.

Young David stared at you with wide, awestruck eyes as he held onto the Talon in silence. His parents glance at each other then retake their seats next to the Reconstructed and you join them, a hardlight stool forming under you.

Even seated you loomed over them and the table, the husband eating a bowl of thick soup made from an epikor recipe and the wife eating baked kelp rolls stuffed with sweet fruits and crustacean meat. However, neither seemed interested in their meals when you joined them and keep a respectful silence.

Clacking your teeth you look between them curiously, "Well? You wish to speak with me but speech eludes you?" you ask with amusement.

This causes them to give a start, both used to life in the Armada but still struck by your nearly overwhelming presence, and the mother speaks, "I- uh, yes, forgive us Lord Jadyk. We weren't expecting..." she trails off.

"We weren't expecting you in the flesh," the husband continues then scrunches up his face when he realizes what he said as the woman gives a short laugh, "You know what I mean," he says with his own timid smile.

Your laughter joins the womans, causing them both to laugh with relieved tension and drawing the gaze of those on the balcony, "I believe I do know what you mean," you look to David who was silently watching you in between munching on sliced vegetables the Talon would hand to him when he wanted another, "So tell me, how is your son doing? He has...grown since I last met with you."

The mother lets out an exasperated laugh and nods, "You have no idea," she says and reaches over, brushing some of the pale hair from the boys face and revealing the faint marks of the brand on his forehead as she dotes over him. The boy gives a bashful giggle and flashes a smile at her then shyly looks back to you as she continues, "He's only a few months old and the Think Tanks say he's closer to the age of two years physically and mentally."

"He can already walk better than I did when I was two," the father says and motions to the Talon, "Without her help we'd be run ragged."

"Her?" you question curiously with head tilted.

They glance at each other with a moment of embarrassment before the mother spoke, "We got in the habit of calling them 'Nanny' or 'Nan' since they've been so helpful in taking care of David," she looks at you with slight worry, "Hope it's not... insulting?"

You give a small laugh and shake your head, "It's perfectly fine. It is the first time I've heard of a Talon being named," you say and look to the Reconstructed who seemed to proudly puff up at the compliments. From where you sat you could tell they were one of those bright motes of light, one of those Reconstructed that showed signs of developing intelligence.

It was easy to see and mistake the Talons actions and driven my affection as it tends to the child. Though, as it feeds and wipes away stray crumbs with a cloth while making soft cooing and clicking noises to the child, you think maybe it was not mistaken.

You look to the parents and notice the father seemed nervous about something, both deciding not to take a symbiot so far. Nodding to him you gesture to him with a hand, "Was there something else?"

Once again they glance at each other, seeming to share a silent conversation in a moment without the aid of telepathy, before he looks back to you with a small sigh, "We're, uh, somewhat worried about David. He's growing fast and healthy, yes, but..." he reaches over to ruffle his sons hair and smiles as the child giggles, "Have you ever... granted your 'gift' to another child before?" he looks up at you with a hint of fear at the unknown, "What can we expect?"

You look to the child, his eyes meeting your empty sockets but unlike most of the living he did not flinch. Rather, his face curls into a smile and he giggles brightly and shyly hides his face against the chest of his undead "Nanny".

You look to the parents and give a shrug of your shoulders, "He is the first living child to bear my mark. I have never given another to one as young as he," you rub your chin with a finger in thought, "I would recommend regular check-ins with the Think Tanks for medical evaluation," you see the sudden worry on their faces and you lift both hands defensively, "Just as a precaution. I would not willingly put young David in harms way."

They let out sighs of relief and nod, the mother reaching out and taking David from the Talons arms and looks to you, "Would you like to hold him for a moment?" she asks suddenly, surprising not only yourself but the father and Nanny Talon as well.

You stare at her in disbelief for a moment before she gives a small chuckle and stands up from the hardlight chair and moves closer to you. Her movements gain the attention of the onlookers, whispers rising as she holds the child out to you.

There is a few moments of hesitation as David clings to his mother while looking at you nervously and yourself uncertain of how to proceed. Finally the mother just rolls her eyes and pushes him toward you, giving advice on how to hold him.

It was certainly a new experience, having a child seated on your lap. He looked around then up at you curiously before reaching out and taking hold of your hand, small fingers gripping the fingers to inspect them while making sounds that were not quite words. The father looked on nervously as the mother smiled, her arms folded across her chest as she watches, "See, he's not so bad."

You look to her for a moment then back down to the child who had started trying to gnaw on the chitin of your forefinger, "I think he's trying to eat me," you comment, drawing laughter from the parents and those close enough to hear.

"It means he likes you," replies the father who was finally starting to smile.

As you looked at the child, finding the moment strange but... enjoyable, he looked up and his brown eyes met your empty sockets. Up close you spot it, faint streaks of red staining his iris, all too familiar to you, only giving a brief look before his eyes crinkle up with a wide smile and he babbles up at you. His previous shyness gone as he found a new chew toy in your finger.

You did not let his parents know but as he gnaws harmlessly on your finger you let the slightest sliver of Necrotic power flow through your hand. The child seems to freeze up for a moment before he bit down harder suddenly as the faintest mote of power you offered toward him was hungrily devoured by the child.

"I believe he will become a strong and important member of this Armada," you say as you carefully hand him back over to his mother who gives him a hug and kiss on the forehead just next to the brand, "He will have the full protection and support of this city and beyond, you have my word."

They looked at you in surprise at your words and the father gives a small bow, not really knowing how to react, "Uh, thank you, Lord Jadyk," he reaches over to place a hand on the childs head when the mother took her seat again, "I grew up on Veraga Prime and already I can tell Iti'a'Ropku will be a better home for him than anywhere else."

The mother bows her head with a sincere smile as well, both seeming to finally get over their unease of your presence, "Yes, thank you, Lord Jadyk," her cheeks darken slightly out of a sudden wave of embarrassment that she laughs off, "You know, we thought you were planning to use David as a sacrifice or something at first," she says with bemusement while the father shot her a shocked look then apologetically back toward you.

With your own laugh you shake your head, "I do not blame you. Must be... difficult learning to raise a family under my guidance."

"Oh without a doubt, we thought you were going to kill us all back when you first showed up with Jor at your side to fight off the Pirates and Empire," the father said then motions to the city sprawling out behind them, "But then you built all this, gave everyone of us so much for nothing," he bows his head then, the sincerity thick in his voice as he says, "Thank you, Lord Jadyk. For everything."

He is joined by his wife, holding each others hand, "Thank you, Lord. If there is anything we can do..." she trails off, as if realizing that the words may seem hollow coming from a simple human such as her.

"I appreciate your faith, both of you," you reply, satisfied that they finally seemed to come to terms with their lives under the Armada.

However, your attention was focused on young David who's brown eyes were locked on you as he clung to his mother. The young, would-be Necromancer. You make a mental note to have him attend the Necromancers Spire once his accelerated aging brought him to an appropriate maturity.

After spending a few more minutes with the family you excuse yourself. Before departing young David was back in the attentive care of the Nanny Talon, the child waving his hand eagerly at the urging of his parents, yourself returning the gesture despite the looks of those around. Once you left the table was quickly swarmed by the onlookers asking questions and doting over David as well.

The mystery of David's development and his latent powers was intriguing and you make a mental note to check in on him more frequently. Perhaps Red-Leaf-Strains would like to meet him as well, you knew she had a soft spot for children no matter the species.

You passed through the city on your throne, drifting over the heads of the population that would stop to wave or gesture in greeting. They filled the streets, walking or taking hovercraft to and from their destinations, the sounds of their chatter a buzz on the cool wind as the clouds moved across the sky, plunging portions of the city in moving shadows.

Stationed at street corners you see Legionnaires and militia volunteers in their armor and carrying weapons but they held relaxed dispositions, battletombs hunkered down and heavy armors standing with their cockpits open allowing the pilots to breath.

With the Empire driven back and the Ahkam denied their victory portions of the Legion and volunteer militias were still on alert in the city. They waited and kept watch alongside Reconstructed soldiers, some of the Legionnaires less than happy with the command to be on duty rather than joining the celebrations, but there was still that notion of a threat. The citizens no doubt noticed it but they kept calm as if it were another day in the Armada.

Arriving at and entering the Necromancers Spire, the tower of spiraling pale bone looming over the city, you are greeted by the Necromancers with respectful bows and salutes as your throne drifts past. Several rode around on the skulls of their Ur-Wyrms or practiced their levitation to move through the tower.

A door made of interlocking bone untangles itself at your approach and the pair of floral Necromancers turn to greet you. The pale Sapling bent its main stalk, bobbing the flower-like cluster of organs and eyestalks while the stunted Cactacae thumps their thick arms together in greeting.

The voicebox hanging around the Saplings form crackles with its synthetic voice, "Salutations, Lord Jadyk. We appreciate you taking time to speak with us."

A virtually similar voice crackles from the metal box embedded physically in the cacti's green flesh, "Especially in your true form rather than Harbinger. We know you must be busy," they say, surprising you with their chattiness.

The throne drifts in, setting down with a faint gust of displaced air. You give your own bow of your head in greeting, motioning to them with a hand, "My pleasure. I am ashamed I have not come to speak with you, my honored guests, sooner."

The saplings voice crackles, its crimson eyestalks swaying as it regards you, "Dynasty and Empire invasions require much attention."

You let out a short, almost bitter laugh, "You have no idea," you let out another small laugh that causes one of the eyestalks to flip over to the cacti, no doubt having a pheromone conversation between them, "but no matter. I am here now, what was it you wished to speak with me about?"

"We wish to defect from the Collective to your New Necrotic Armada," the cactacae says bluntly, the simple and weighted statement causing you to stare in momentary disbelief.

"Defect? How..." you start but the sapling makes a squirming motion with one of its main manipulator vines at the cactacae, a gesture of admonishment you realize.

"Forgive them. Their spines are sharp but their words are blunt," the pale-leafed sapling says, their synthetic voice doing its best to show a hint of sarcasm, "We came to this world to be students, to learn how to use the Necrotic. You fulfilled your side of the bargain perfectly," there was another crackle, but this one from a flash of sickly green light that danced along the veins of their form.

"Solar, Arc, and Void as well, to our friends," they continue, "Mighty, important gifts for certain. Gifts to bring to the Collective to spread the knowledge and enhance our science and understanding.

"But, our gift, the gift of Necrotic energy and art of Necromancy. That will make us shunned, outcasts in the Collective despite the benefits we would bring. I am uncertain if this one will ever be allowed to join the Evergrove on the Worldtree when it comes time for my roots to grow deep and my bark thick," the sapling says, their artificial voice showing more emotion than you ever experienced with the Collective.

The cactacae picks up for them, a moment of you not realizing they had switched, "We wish to stay here. We will share gifts and knowledge with Collective. That is why Sapling Slrrt is here, to be link between Collective and Armada. But we think Armada, that Iti'a'Ropku, would make acceptable replacement for new home. If Lich-Lord accepts."

The sapling speaks up again, "This one and they desire chance to become true Necromancers. First of Armatocere kind. We have seen how you are growing Armada, creating a Collective of your own and desire to join where we can be of most use. Speak with Eldertrees for us, share our desire.

"This one knows of experiments to reanimate, reconstruct, remake floral lifeforms and desires to assist. Think Tanks are poor at hiding plans," they add with a pop of static that you were starting to recognize as an expression of amusement.

You were still quite surprised by how wordy they were. It was uncertain if they had said this many words all together in their time as your guests.

I'm glad they've put it as "Speak with Eldertrees for us, share our desire". It suggests they want us to seek permission from their faction first, which isn't really so much defecting as emigrating.

This will all be much simpler if the Collective agrees. If they don't... well, that would definitely be a diplomatic incident. It'd be a seriously dick move by the Collective, and I'd be inclined to give our guests asylum as refugees anyway.

This makes seeking their permission first a courtesy, rather than a requirement.
>>
>>2517784
The Armada will always welcome those who wish to join us, how ever I am unfamiliar if there are any taboos or issues with such a thing by the collectives standard. If they have no issue with you joining me than I see no reason to deny you your wish to join.

I will advise the eldtree when next I speak with them and see what, procedures are involved in such a transfer. Do either of you know if there would be any issues with fulfilling your request from the collective?
>>
>>2517784
"Of course!" you say and spread your hands before you, "Citizenship in the New Necrotic Armada is open to all races, Armatocere included. You know we are no stranger to accepting those who would otherwise be shunned or outcast."

The pale petals, streaked through with a dark crimson that formed the saplings 'face' quiver as they bend their stalk once more and their voicebox crackles and spits, "This one is pleased by your acceptance, Lord Jadyk. Living among this city this one no longer fears the burn of the sun, the soils richer than any this one has rooted."

"Neither of us wished to leave. With the Armada we are flourishing," the cactacae's voicebox drones.

You could see the truth to their words just by looking at them and remembering how they first appeared on Yrre-1. Both had been sickly and malnourished, the sapling forced to linger in the shade rather than soak up the radiance of a sun and the cacti ignored by the others for their perceived weakness.

Now they both looked vibrant with health, the Sapling sporting dark reds that stood starkly against their pale flesh. The spines of the cacti, once sparse and underformed, now sprouted in clusters that they had to carefully groom and trim every day, their thick hide a deep green of healthy flesh.

"It pleases me to know that Iti'a'Ropku has allowed you both to reach the potentials you were denied through no fault of your own or the Collectives. I believe having you both as our first official Necromancers and immigrants will only strengthen the unity between Armada and Collective," you say while resting your chin on your knuckles and motioning with the other hand.

"That is the best possible outcome," the cacti states simply, their eyes hidden in deep recesses like wounds in their hide watching you unblinking.

"Yes, speaking of possible outcomes, I am unfamiliar if there are any taboos or issues that I may hope to avoid in pleading your case. If they have no complaint with your joining me, then I see no reason they should deny you your wish to join the Armada officially.

"In fact, I am planning to speak with the Eldertree of Yrre-1 soon and will bring this up with them during our discussion," you look from one to the other, "Do either of you know if there would be any issue the Collective may take with this request?"

The pair of floral lifeforms seem to look at each other in silent discussion with pheromones that were still being decoded and studied by the Think Tanks. Finally the Sapling turns their eyestalks back toward you and their voicebox sparks, "While our request is... unorthodox, we do not foresee any issues. We have little importance to the Collective and we plan to still assist with our Necrotic capabilities and research."

>cont
>>
>>2517894
"If we leave, spreading the Necrotic energy among the Collective, to study and enhance our understanding, we sentence those who would have it to a vicious hunger and suffering. By staying here," the cacti gestures vaguely with a thick limb around them, "Learning from the Armada, in time we can assist those like us to live in comfort among the Collective or have a grove waiting to accept them here," the cactacae says, impressing you with its altruistic intent.

"If the Eldertrees grant our desire, this one believes we can assist Think Tanks greatly. Necromancy of botanical lifeforms are a new science this one is eager to assist in pioneering. Necromancy long believed a science of the Animalkind," the sapling says with a pop of amused static.

"Let me discuss this with the Eldertree before assigning you research assignments," you say with a laugh and a patting motion of the hand, the sapling let out another pop of static as they bend their stalk. You could see, now that you paid attention, that the skin of the saplings were usually smooth to the touch but the Necromancer appeared to be developing patches of rough hide that nearly look like calluses with a few thorns starting to grow. Idly you wonder if that was a form of necrotic mutation and already the Think Tanks are noting it down in their logs.

I mentioned this before, but i'm nervous about our visit to the World Tree. Whenever we personally go of on a mission, either our planets or our person gets attacked(looking at you Graves), so i'm nervous about us going. I think we should get one of our Talons, while we are talking to the Eldertrees about our visit, to give a message to an Armatocere to give to the Eldertrees. The message will be to ask permission to, right after we leave, launch a large fleet and send them on a course that will leave them a system away from the meeting place. The reason is, Akka-Tor's wraiths could be watching and overhearing our plans(she is definitely watching for a good time to eat us), so it would be better if we send the message while they eavesdrop on us.
I know im sounding paranoid, but im only paranoid if im wrong.

And if I remember well, it's big enough to be used as a mobile base for the arc order.
This mean we can totaly make a decently sized stealth fleet of Nephrean leaded by the Ravager and send them deep into Osjiic territory to perform guerrilla operation, for virtually unlimited period of time.

>best believe in ghost ship stories now, YOU'RE BEING ATTACKED BY ONE
Just imagine it. A patrol of Osijic gunships detect a faint ping on their gravitic radars, which is faint enough for them to almost think it's a glitch. But they check it out anyways, since they'd get ass whooped by command if they neglect checking. When they get close enough, they see a derelict Osijic ship in an asteroid field, but strangely they can only detect it via visuals. They trained their guns on the sides of the nearest asteroid, because if anything's hiding behind that rock, it's going to go via the sides, right? But as they get closer to the derelict, they see that it's transparent. It flickers out of existence. And then, an entire transparent glowing green warship just noclips through the center of the asteroid. The gunners were quick, and readjusted their aim - but to no avail. Their missiles and projectiles just passes into it and through the other side, hitting the asteroid. By now they've only noticed that their comms were jammed. And that a dozen more ships have phased through the asteroids near them.
The next patrol that were sent to locate the missing patrol will detect a similar signal. And they will see the derelict patrol ships. But only visually.

Well time to let the predators know, its time to go hunting.
>>
We could also have stealth minelayer ships that scatter clumps of crit crawls across their shipping lanes whenever there's an opportunity.

Do we have a quasiphasic version of those things? Ghost crit crawls sound like a great idea, especially if they can phase into a ship a ways before unphasing and detonating. A bunch of mines going off always pairs well with ambushes too.

Honestly, do we need to go in person? I’d assumed that we’d be sending a Harbinger, maybe the friendly fossil, I’m sure he’d appreciate the opportunity. I feel like bringing a source of Necrotic energy as powerful as ourselves so close to the Worldtree would be kind of a bad idea, even if we harbour no ill intent.

I think we should design a new pattern of ship tough, I don't think the space-whale have stealth field equiped as standart. Actually I'm gonna dive into the pastebin and see what I can build.

so we retrofit them?

We could bring a bunch of glutton spheres tuned to Necrotic.

Ooh, even better, we could spend the entire visit glowing in Solar energy. We're undead, but I think we can avoid bleeding necrotic energy into the environment. If Jadyk has the ability to engulf himself in Solar flames, I'm not sure how that could possibly have a net Necrotic contamination too. Even if we assume Jadyk leaks Necrotic energy like a sprinkler, the Solar would eat it.

I feel like it’d eat us eventually, though. We could probably maintain such an effect for a bit, but I’d be a bit concerned about it growing out of control and devouring us. While we have control over l four elements, necrotic is still our primary power source.
>>
>>2521022
I think becoming a Abomination ruled this out, Solar was tough to control before but now ? We are something else, something more.

Especially if we reconstruct ourself in a form fitting this.

Yeaaah, we should probably try not to do the equivalent of leaving muddy tracks or ignoring coasters when we visit our ally's capitol..hivemind leader..thing.

They have specifically said that Jaydk cannot go there in person, but old Fossil is more than welcome.

It has less to do with the fact that the amount of necrotic energy inside us would cause some of them pyshisical damage and more the fact that Jaydk is an entity powerful enough to be able to devour the world tree's life essence and though they trust us, they do not yet trust us that much.

Works for me. I remembered something like that but forgot whether the offer had changed.
