You are the TEMPLAR, a holy knight sent to clear the frontier of monsters and heresy!

Currently, you were chasing a fleeing dragon down a dark, underground cavern, with only Morgan and Artya as you immediate support. As you psrinted down the narrow, dark tunnels, your newly transmuted Dragon armor clinked and smoldered, providing illumination in the darkness.

"Me and Artya should go on ahead." Morgan says as she easily keeps pace with you, her wolf ears twitching wildly. "We can't let that dragon regain its footing."

Dragons don't grow that old by being stupid. Last thing we need is to underestimate its intelligence.

Any bets if the Dragon is a Dragonbro, or a Dragonlady?

You grab Morgan's shoulder her pull her back, keeping her close. You should all stick together. Dragons were not something you attacked with only mere impulse.

"Right. Fine." Morgan nods, and Artya skids to a stop as well. "Then just follow me. I've got its scent."

You, Morgan, and Artya now more carefully dash through the tunnels, the quakes from the dragon's frantic running now gone. Either it had calmed down and hunkered down in another lair, or it had gotten very far away.

Finally, you come up to a bend in the tunnel. Morgan motions for you and Artya to stop as she takes a peek around, quickly withdrawing.

"Looks like an ambush spot." Morgan hisses. "That bastard is just waiting for us to round the corner to roast us."

Ah, well, your pretty sure your new dragon armor wouldn't be affected by its breath anymore. Morgan and Artya could easily take cover behind you.

Artya, however, points to the tunnel wall and digs her hands into, clawing out some large chunks of earth. That's right, foxes were pretty good diggers, if you remembered correctly.

You nod to Artya and point for her to keep digging her tunnel. You'll head out to the front and draw the dragon's attention to yourself. You're the best equipped to handle its fiery breath, after all. You suspect this new form makes you highly resistant, if not completely immune, to fire.

If we manage to kill this ancient dragon, we'll be loaded to the gills in dragon scale, leather, and bone armour and weapons.

And we can get bikini armour and swimsuits which could be enchanted to act as a full suit. Everyone will be jealous of our party by then, though dragon might be upset knowing its flesh is being used to hug and wrap up the bodies of cute girls.

It's kind of a shame if we have to kill this dragon.

All of its experience, and knowledge being lost forever without it being passed on. A dragon this long lived probably saw a lot during the course of its life. Maybe it witnessed the original inhabitants of the Frontier rise and fall, the split between Templars and Paladins, and maybe even know the secrets and weaknesses of the Elf Kingdom?

You point to Artya. Better that she be part of the ambush rather than risking herself on the front.

"Got it." Morgan nods as she turns away. "Be careful."

You simply give her a thumbs up and charge around the corner and into the next chamber.

The dragon is of course waiting, and the moment it spots you it unleashes another wave of fire breath. Thankfully, your new armor completely repels the flames like waves breaking upon the shore. You don't even feel any heat bleeding through your armor.

However, it wasn't going to take long for the dragon to realize that the breath wasn't working and switch to a new tactic.

One of the dragon's legs rises in the air and comes crashing down, but you see the move coming from miles away and deftly dodge to the side as its massive clawed foot comes down, slamming into the stone ground and cracking it. The vibrations cause your armor to rattle but you stand resolute, taking the opportunity to stab your halberd directly in between the dragon's scales. The embedded fang in your weapon triggers from the pressure and begins pumping its potent venom. The dragon roars and sweeps its leg to shake you off. You back off lest you risk losing grip of your halberd, and the dragon turns its head to you, snarling as it bares its teeth. Its breath may not be able to harm you, but its massive maw still could.

Up above on the ceiling, you could see earth break and crumble as Artya finally breaks through. However, there were still a bit out of position. If you could just get the dragon to turn around, you could be able to lure it into the optimal ambush position.

The best course of action would be the lead the dragon into the optimal ambush position. However, that meant having to actually lure the beast in that direction, which was on the completely opposite end of it.

Thankfully, its movements seemed to be slowed somewhat by the venom you had managed to inject into it, so perhaps you'd have a good chance at it.

You sprint forward, and the dragon attempts to intercept you with a sweeping attacking with its claws, but you manage to duck and roll under the attack in the nick of time, dashing beneath the beast's belly to the opposite side of the chamber.

The dragon begins turning around with a terrifying swiftness, its head still tracking you with its lone good eye, furious flames licking from within its mouth.

And that's when Artya drops down, landing squarely on the dragon's back. Morgan meanwhile hangs upside down from the hall, firing arrows from her vantage point.

You lock eyes with Artya and point for the dragon's head. If she could get a good attack in the beast could be felled quickly.

Artya nods and starts dashing along the dragon's back. That was easy enough, but getting up its long and slender neck, that was constantly on the move, would be a tougher proposition. She might need a bit of assistance to reach her target. Either way, you couldn't afford to let the dragon know of her presence.

In the shadows, you could see Artya clinging to the base of its neck, getting ready to dash up when she has the first opening. Morgan likewise holds her fire, just in case.

The dragon bares its teeth at you and its head lunges forward, intent on swallowing you whole.

You manage to deftly dodge out of the way as the head comes crashing down, the dragon only succeeding in eating a mouthful of dirt and rock as its massive armored snout plunges into the earth.

Artya then leaps into action, sprinting down the dragon's long, winding neck before lunging down at the head, attempting to go fro the other eye. However, the dragon is just quick witted enough to close its eye, protecting it behind its armored eyelid and Artya's knife bounces uselessly off of it.

"Artya, watch out!" Morgan yells from above.

It didn't take an expert to see the muscles in the dragon's neck tensing up as it was preparing to thrash around to throw Artya off. Artya grabs onto the dragon's tiny horns to try and brace herself.

The dragon's head whips around wildly, but you and Artya manage to keep your grips despite being thrown and pulled around. Climbing your way forward, you get a solid grip on the dragon's eyelid and pull with all your might, forcing it open and exposing the vulnerable eye beneath.

Artya wastes no time in plunging her knife directly into it.

The dragon lets out another roar as it slams its head into the wall, the shock being enough to finally dislodge you and Artya. You land on your feet with a loud THUD while Artya makes no sound at all, as expected of a fox like her.

"It's going berserk!" Morgan yells. "Get out of there!"

Sure enough, the dragon, now blinded, was thrashing and flailing its entire body wildly, slamming into the walls, floor and ceiling of the chamber and causing the entire structure to shake. If this continued, the entire chamber could very well collapse.

Nonsense, 'tis but another most magnificent achievement in the name of the Templar Order!
>>
So if the roof doesn't collapse over us we are taking the head or just some if the teeth and talons? I bet Nino would love to have a dragon eye. Also after all of this i kinda feel bad for the bear in the cave entrance.

Whatever happened, it would have to be impeccably timed and coordinated. Fortunately, you felt comfortable working with Artya and Morgan. As the dragon stomps its legs around, you dash forward and strike one of its front legs with your halberd's hammer side as hard as possible. This proves just enough to throw the dragon off balance and it falls forward, its chin slamming into the ground with a might CRACK.

Morgan wastes no time raining arrows down into the top of its skull. Some bounce off its tough scales, but others find purchase in the gaps, embedding themselves into its flesh.

Artya then leaps forward, using Morgan's arrows as handles as she clambers back onto the dragon's head. She winds back one of her arms and plunges it directly into the dragon's eye socket, her arm plunging in all the way to the shoulder.

The dragon gives on last pained roar before collapsing in its death throes.

And finally, it goes still.

"Is... is it over?" Morgan asks as she finally drops down, landing without a sound like Artya.

Artya gives a thumbs up with her free hand as she tries to pull her other one out of the dragon's skull, but appears to be stuck.

"Did we..." Morgan collapses, full right on her rear in exhaustion. "Did we just take down a DRAGON?"

You nod and pat her on the shoulder.

"That's so crazy." Morgan blinks, as if just waking up from a dream.

You pat her on the shoulder again.

"Are... are you going to help Artya?" Morgan asks, pointing to the foxgirl.

Artya waves frantically at you. Apparently her arm was stuck well and good in there.

You nod and walk up to Artya, wrapping your arms around her waist and giving a proper, hard tug, which finally pulls her free from the dragon with a wet, meaty POP. The foxgirl then turns around and hugs you, while you return the affection with a well deserved headpat.

You then make the sign of Sol to the slain dragon. A measure of respect, even if it is rather small. This beast certainly did give you a worthy fight.

"WHOOOOOAAAAAA!"

You turn to see that the rest of the party had finally caught up. Of course, at the head of the party was Nino, who was already dashing at you at full speed.

Thankfully, you brace yourself just in time as Nino faceplants into your breastplate, her eyes sparkling all kinds of colors.

"Ohmygoshyourarmorreallydidchange! Is it permanent? Is it fused with your skin? Is it any heavier? Does it itch?!"

You're at a loss as to how to explain this all to Nino when you are saved by Naru yanking her off of her.

"Give the Templar some space, Squirt." Naru grunts.

"Wow, Elias told us about what happened to your armor, but actually seeing it..." Niko whistles. "You look pretty cool!"

"I've seen cooler." Valentia huffs. You could almost swear she was a bit jealous.

"Ah, you 've dealth with the dragon. That's good." Elias says simply, observing the corpse. "Now we can work in peace."

"Wow, just the three of you took it down?" Janice blinks.

Artya nods.

"Attagirl!" Janice laughs as she hugs the foxgirl.

"Well, how do we divy the dragon up?" Naru asks. Of course she'd ask that.

"Hm, well..." Elias pauses. "It doesn't take an Archmage to tell you that the scales and bones make very effective armor. The fire gland in its throat is also rather special and highly effective in enchantments. And the blood? Well, it's a very, VERY useful reagent for magical items. Pity it looks like the eyes were destroyed. Those are particularly valuable...

"Well... Artya did a lot of heavy lifting, so it's only fair she get a share." Morgan says.

Artya's posture lights up at the thought of loot.

You point to the dragon's gullet, where its fire gland would be. Perhaps Artya could find a use for it?

Artya merely pauses and nods in agreement. That arrangement would work for her.

"Good, so it looks like the deal's been made." Naru nods as she pulls out her dissection saw. "This uh, might take a while."

"Don't worry, me and Arty can help!" Janice says happily.

"I will return to study that mana crystal now that we should have no more... disturbances." Elias says as he turns around, the Twins following him closely.

"Oh yeah! That GIANT MANA CRYSTAL!" Nino squeals. "I wanna go study it, too!"

"Well, we're going to need someone with the voice of reason to keep an eye on them." Valentia sighs as the follows the mages out.

"I'll scout out the other tunnels to make sure we're really alone down here." Niko offers.

"I think... I'm just going to take a break." Morgan sighs, remaining sitting on the floor.

You decide to go help out Naru with processing the dragon. It was... a pretty large creature, after all.

With halberd in hand you trundle over to the dragon's corpse, where Naru was already hacking the off. No doubt to selvage the skull as a trophy.

You observe as Naru cuts her way through the dragon's neck with her cleaver saw with almost peerless precision as she cleanly removes the head. She had also set up a bag to collect all of the blood spurting from the open wound, and even you could feel the power welling up from it.

"Hmmm, well this is interesting." Naru grunts as she examines the skull.

You walk up toher, looking at the skull as well. Was something up?

"Ah, well, just seemed like we have an opportunity to use this." Naru shrugs. "I mean, we can convert the head into a shield, which seems to be a popular thing these days, or do you just want to keep it as a trophy? Something nice to hang from the wall?"

When we killed the manticore, Helbrecht requested a trophy for the Great Hall. Needless to say, we should expect a similar request for this. If the elf situation wasn't so tense, I'd almost say we should personally deliver it to him.

You shake your head. You' rather just have the trophy that you could show around to your fellow Templars.

"Huh, well, that's fine too, I guess." Naru shrugs. "Less work for me."

You nod as you walk up to the dragon corpse and begin the process of stripping off the slain creature's scales. They were all a deep ruby red, and nice and thick. Each one was probably worth a small fortune, and you would be coming home with wagonloads of the stuff.

"Still, that's a pretty interesting set of armor you got there." Narus continues as she starts sawing through bone. "Still can't believe it just showed up out of nowhere. Almost kind of like cheating, honestly."

You just shrug as you continue your work. You wonder how Havel and Ozen would react. Hell, you wondered how your old master would react. It would certainly be interesting when you carted all this material back home.
