>Schedule?
I update every 1-4 days, depending on how busy I am with school work. On holidays I may update everyday, on exam crunch time I may not at all. This is not a quest that you have to show up on time for, drop in every day or two and you wont miss anything. Lastly, I will use the same thread until it falls off page ten.

>Rules?
-Prompts that are more in depth have a better chance of succeeding. Example: you have a better chance of success if you provide an argument as to why the monster shouldn't eat you then if you simply say "convince him not to eat you".
-Prompts have to make sense in continuity to the story. Example: characters who are established pacifists wont start murdering randomly for exp.
-No meta gaming

Suddenly you are awake, although you don’t remember ever falling asleep. What do you remember? Not much... a battle? Yes a battle, Jackson you remember Jackson, how are you here now and not there? Instead of in a street fight you are in a bed, a soft bed, not too soft, but much softer then the ground you are used to. You try to get up, but cant. For a brief and very frightening moment you think that you’re paralysed. But you’re not, your body moves, it just has no real strength left. All the built up exertion your body has been storing has been unlocked and unleashed by this bed. Every muscle hurts, every bone aches, your eye cant seem to stay open, and your head hurts. Your head hurts REALLY bad in fact, as if someone brought down an axe and split your brain into two perfect halves, one half is in intense pain while the other refuses to work. Turning yourself onto your side and using both your arms for support, you give yourself a push upward for a better look around the room. They vibrate from the strain but seem to hold once you manage to lock your elbows.

Out the window you see, what else, but the rain. The awful weather denies interpretation, it could be morning noon or night its impossible to tell. Whos room is this even? Who can tell? Its completely spartan, other then this bed and a small desk its empty of furniture and trinkets. Resting on the desk is your sword and bow, next to it rests your bag.

You hear voices coming from downstairs.

I'll have to disagree, you're too weak as of now to struggle to get up, let alone win a fight. Sneaking and taking a defensive might be a bad idea in case what's coming was offensive. Which is far fetched anyway since you're sleeping on a bed, your stuff wasn't taken (including your weapons), and you seem to have been tend to.
I'd say our best option is to lay down and pretend sleep while focusing on trying to listen to what's happening/being said exactly.

>I still don't understand why the events had to turn this way and why villagers were so hostile
A series bad dice rolls, the unfolding events that happen in the background regardless of Kae's existence, and the butterfly effect of our previous decisions and actions on the plot.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Unable to lay still and let your future be dictated by fate you decide to act. Your body doesn’t agree with you but you’re in charge here, hopefully your body will understand that. It doesn't, it resists your attempts to get up with great conviction. Reluctant to give up you start by trying to move your little toes, once they are moving your start to bend your knee, one step at a time you will get out of this bed. Thrusting one leg out of the bed it eventually touches the cold floor, from here you start to push yourself out of the bed completely. Not all of the pieces that comprise your being move as you command but they don’t need too, holding onto the bed with one arm you slide yourself completely out of the bed. From here you reach out to your sword and after a few attempts you are able to knock it down to the floor with you. You bring your sword towards yourself and embrace it passionately. Holding this sword makes you feel safe, and out of the two new men in your life this one has never hurt you or let you down.
Holding the sword close to you, you’re breathing becomes heavy, getting just here took its toll on you. But it is not enough, you have so much left to do and miles to go before you may sleep. You reach deep into yourself and once again try to draw from that inner pool of strength that you have always found in times of peril; [STR:Success] As always, it answers your call. With some effort, and help from the bed, you lift yourself up. Using the bed frame and wall as supports you creep around the room until you reach the door and slump down against it. Pressing your ear to the door, you try and make out the conversation from down stairs.
Its mutable, you cant understand anything but it sounds like 2 or maybe 3 men are arguing downstairs.
>>2488683
we're in no condition to try to leave right now, just getting to the door almost killed us, I really doubt we'd make it far and that staying put is the safest option.
If whoever has us wanted us dead we'd be dead.
We have no idea what the fuck happened when we blacked out, and running could make things much worse.
>Head back to your bed, hide the sword. under your pillow or some shit
YOUR GODDAM RIGHT. Aah you were at are side all along. Kaes true mentor, her guiding moonlight (Remove horse neyahhing with wolf howling).
>>2488720
Good plan, we should follow this. Try to be stealthy about it, are current state might be easily noisy to hear. Can Kae make another attempt to remember what happened while were doing this? If J. pops back up he's going to lie to us.... again. (I'm all for us be Wulfun or Stando user at this point. Can't wait)
>>2488909
A fair enough plan though we should at least get a bearings of the what's going on, instead of fiddling with are thumbs.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well, you wont get anything done just sitting here trying to hear through this door. With another deep breath you know its time to ask even more from your body, using the door for support you inch back up the same way you slid down. With every step towards the window your body seems to start obeying your commands more and more, through the soreness and pain you manage to stand upright on your own strength. Making your way over to the window, pushing it open you stick your head out into the rain and try to orientate yourself. It doesn’t take long for you to figure out your location, right down that block is where you and Jackson fought the mob. So how then did you end up here when you used to be over there? So many questions but your brain hurts so bad, you look down and see that you are on the second floor of a house. Suddenly you feel a rush through your body, like your soul is being sucked out of your body towards the cold street below, you want to jump down after it; you just want to FLING your self right out this window. The feeling over vertigo is so over whelming you have to stumble back into the room in order not to fall out of the window. You are safe in the room but the over whelming urge to leave this place through that window remains. Deciding to trust your instincts you inch back towards the window, you’re going to escape you have to escape you MUST ESCAPE, FLEE.

But first... you must get dressed. Even a bush girl has her modesty after all.

Were going out in the cold rain, & we might want to hide are wounds, this seems to be the most conservative of the options. Anyway can we keep (bring with) the remaining clothes as optional layers? Or at the very least break them for usable materials? (Shouldn't be to hard for a crafty enough tree hobo) If were sticking to one set we should keep the rest for later use. (Make a cape/hood/coat for weather protection & easier stealth presently.)

Looking out into the rain, you decide that it may be a little too cold for the shirt that has been left out for you, besides, with all your injurys maybe it would be best to pick a shirt that could cover that up. So instead, [Rogue] you decide to stash the shirt into your bag for later use and pull out the shirt that you looted from the witches lair. Finally you get to put this shirt on your body, you have been longing for this moment since you laid your eyes on it and now the opportunity has at last presented itself. One arm after the other it already seems to fit like a dream. The only complaint comes as you button up the shirt to find it a little tight around your bust. You are used to this sensation as your old shirt didn’t fit to well around this area either. You pull you shoulders way back a few times in an attempt to streeeeetch out the shirt, you know eventually a button will pop or loosen and then it will be perfect. Too late in the year for shorts you settle for the pants that your mysterious benefactors left with the shirt. A Frankenstein looking monstrosity, you hope they fit better then they look. Taking a seat on the bed you attempt to pull the pants up when you encounter a problem. They are unable to surmount the length of your hips or the girth of your butt... I guess all that time starving alone in the woods has done little to reduce the size of the lower mid section of your body. How irritating you think, you have faced angry wild life, skeletons, and even insane crazed villagers only to be defeated by, of all things, a pair of pants! The worst part is that they ALMOST fit, if you could just overcome this last ridge they would be on you and you could get going. As you roll around and swear to your self trying to get these damn things on the amount of noise you are generating becomes apparent. So you calm yourself and in deep brooding frustration you continue to struggle in silence until the mouth of the pants finally passes over the event horizon and slides on completely. Once they are on you, they become surprisingly comfortable, clearly there were not designed to be worn by a woman but instead were modified, at some point, by one for personal use.

Even though your joints still ache and your muscles still hurt you have retained full control of your extremities and your strength as well, now if this ringing in your head would just stop you would be back to feeling “normal”. Gathering your things and securing your sword you head for the window, looking around you spot a mouldy rope dangling from this house connecting it to the house across the street. Probably used for drying clothing and hanging street tapestry it will now serve a new purpose, your escape. Reaching out of the window as far as you can, you sever the rope with your sword; wrapping the rope around your leg you take your 1st step out of the house to freedom.
>>
File: 88.png (31 KB, 422x700)
31 KB
31 KB PNG
[STR: Success] slowly shimmying down the rope you make it about 3/4ths of the way down before it suddenly dawns on you that you were naked in that bed. And if you were naked in that bed, that means someone UNDRESSED you. This makes you burn with embarrassment. If some one undressed you... then that some one could have been Jackson, his h-hands were all over y-your b-b-bo. Thats to much for you to handle, a slippery rope and an unfocused mind sends you slipping down all the way to the end of the rope and down a few more feet to the ground after it runs out. You fall flat on your ass into the wet street, unhurt but glad no one saw you. Hopefully no one heard you either.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well, thats part 1 of our master plan complete, all thats left is to sneak around and spy on who ever was down stairs. [Bushman]Walking around the house in your bare feet you cant help but wish you had some boots, walking around the forest with no footwear was quite common for you but here in the town the ground feels unnatural [-1 to AGI rolls]. Finding a door on the far side of the house you reach out to turn the knob, but before you can touch it an instinctual feeling stops you. For some reason you feel as if that doorknob is red hot, you don’t know how you know but you just KNOW, as if you were moving your hands closer and closer towards an open flame. Ultimately, you are unable to touch it, and your head hurts too bad to question it. You turn around and continue stalking around the house until you see an open window, and even hear some sounds escaping from it. [AGI: Success] creeping closer and closer you are able to get right up under the window and listen in on whats being said...
Three men seem to be arguing about something. More precisely, two men are arguing and a third is trying to calm them down. More importantly, they seem to be arguing about YOU. The first man you know, its Jackson! The second is familiar... [INT: Success]ah yes its Ajax! [INT:Failure] The last man you don’t recognize, but you are sure you know him too... From the sound of things Jackson wants to leave town immediately and take you with him, while on the other hand Ajax doesn’t seem to want him to take you, at all, he goes as far as to imply being anywhere around Jackson puts your life in great danger, pointing out your bruises as hard evidence. Jackson seems to be at the end of his own rope as he flat out states to be ready to simply CARRY you out of town asleep or awake, an idea Ajax refuses to entertain. You get the feeling the “discussion” part of their argument may shortly be coming to an end when Ajax starts to question where exactly your bruises originated from and that Jackson's motivation seems highly “suspect”. You want to, of course, get involved and settle the whole thing yourself but another part of you seems to be tugging at you, tugging at you to leave quietly. Your head throbs and you are not thinking straight...
As much as my burning desire for justice against J. remains, he's still Kaes husbando. So sadly no matter what level of Stockholm syndrome happens were stuck to him like hot glue on old KD. Besides the guy who wants us to stay is probably going to get pist when he realizes we borrowed one of his toothpicks.
>Part 2 Of Master Plan:
Kae should *attempt* to make a grand entrance. Clearly this is the perfect time to impress J-kun & the gaggle. Strike the coolest pose she can muster in this state on the window & say something smug and/or painfully cringy. After all Kae just made the 3 stooges look like idiots. A battered half conscious forest hobo just sneaked around them while they were bickering about your attention. (Honestly nothing to gain from leaving without them or watching them bicker.) Besides they clearly have are stuff.
>Reveal yourself;
}
Well, now that you know youre not in any danger you decide to reveal yourself, Jackson seems to be getting upset and you know how that can go. Poping up from behind the window you look into the room with the smuggest look you can muster, after all you just out witted three grown men. [AGI: Success]Unfortunately, they don’t notice you at all. Should you say something? What should you say? How do you call out to someone who doesn’t notice you? You get the slight feeling as if you have already experienced a similar situation as you ponder if the best way to go about doing this is to climb back up to your room and come down the stairs properly. No! That would be insane... You should just wait here, they will eventually notice you, surely. Any minute now....
While you stand here in the rain, Jackson and Ajax continue arguing. Ajax seems to be attempting to lecture Jackson [Ajax:] “your lucky I was there, you just left her in the street to chase down some starved peasants. What kind of Knight are you?” Jackson's retort comes out pretty “matter of factly” and seems to side step the root argument entirely [Jackson:] ”never said I was a knight” . Ajax doesn’t seem to let the matter drop, [Ajax:] “maybe youre blind to it but I can see right through you, all this witch hunting has driven you mad. Im not letting you take Kae anywhere while she is unconscious” [Jackson:] Its you who is blind to the danger, soon this town will burn and be swept clean of its taint, I am taking Kae and leaving before we get sucked into its maelstrom” [Ajax:] “youre insane” .
As the argument heats up you look around the room, its pretty wide and inside there are two beds, a chest, and a table. Other then that it's the three men in the room; Jackson, Ajax, and a mystery guard. He looks familiar but you’re not sure why. On the table is a few maps of the town, and arranged on them are little wooden figures standing in key positions. As the arguing heats up it starts to look like Jackson and Ajax are about to come to blows, you may not be able to read Jackson's face but you're starting to get a pretty good handle on when he is angry.
Its definitely time for you to speak up, you open your mouth but no sound comes out. Your headache worsens, It feels as if a nail is being hammered right through your left eye and into your brain. An impossibly long nail that gets deeper and deeper with every throb sinking into the endless depths of your mind. [Jackson:] “Enough of this, get out of my way” [Ajax:] “Never” [Jackson:] “move”, Ajax puts his hand on his sword hilt and stands firm [Jackson:] “last chance”, the situation is reaching its inevitable climax. What is this strange feeling you’re experiencing? it goes beyond head pains. You recognize the third man in the room as he starts reaching for his spear, its the guard you met when you first came to this town, the one that was guarding the entrance to the mayors house. What are the chances of that? Is he the only guard in this town, what is happening?
You fanatically try to speak but you simply cant. Nothing leaves your lips, you make no noise at all. Reaching down onto the table you pick up a little green figurine and toss it at them...
As it sails through the air and between the two men they both take a step back, and in sync all three men turn to look at you. Shocked [Ajax:] “Kae? What? How?” he looks to you and then up to the door of room which you occupied then back to you, he repeats this behaviour a few times. It almost seems like Ajax is about to leave to check if you’re actually still up there. Jackson, after a short moment to gather himself, simply stalks over to the window and reaches both of his hands down towards you. A blinding searing pain engulfs your brain, “DANGER, ESCAPE, FLEE, OBEY”. But you trust Jackson, you know he is dangerous and maybe you stepped into this relationship too quickly, but you don’t want to run from him, you WANT him to catch you and carry you... As Jackson's hands slide between your armpits the banging in your head subsides to reasonable levels. You feel a bit dizzy but Jackson's strong arms are here to keep you from falling, he lifts you up as if you were just a small bird and places you inside the house. [Jackson:] “Its nice to see you up and about Kae, are you ready to leave?”. The third man just looks on with a confused look on his face but says nothing.
At first you worry that you wont be able to respond, but this time the words come out of your mouth without issue. Kae:”Leave? Where are you planning on taking me?” Jackson: “Yes its time for the two of us to leave, since I have concluded my business here” Jackson reaches into his own bag and produces a cotton cloth, taking you by the shoulder he starts to dry your hair with it Jackson: “Its time to head towards Cobuege, like we talked about before. Im sure you had a good reason to escape out the window but you’re going to catch a cold walking around barefoot in the rain” It feels like you’re being treated as if you were a child, but Jackson's gentle strokes through your hair and face seem to drain whats left of your headache away. Feeling embarrassed, you continue with your questions anyway; Kae: “Did we talk to the mayor? What about our reward?” . Ajax walks over to the two of you and takes a turn at answering, Ajax: “While you were unconscious the mayor did pay us a visit last night, he wasn’t happy im afraid. The deal you made with the mayor was for the witches head, I remember he was very clear on that.” Kae: “what are you saying exactly?” Ajax: “No head, no reward. The mayor wanted proof, for himself and to show the towns people; God knows they need something to raise moral around here. And on that note I was hoping you could tell me exactly what happened out there?” Jackson sharply interjects Jackson: “I already told you thats none of your business, the witch is dead and that should be enough for you.” Jackson turns his attention to you Jackson: “I did convince the mayor that the witch is indeed dead, he will give me my reward. I will share it with you, im sure if we pace ourselves we can get to Cobuege” . You don’t like the sound of that at all, everything you had done and experienced was for NOTHING? Such a minor detail and it all comes to nothing? While you sit and ponder these new revelations Ajax instructs the guard to bring you the rest of your clothing while Jackson continues to try and dry you off, moving from your hair and face to your arms and shoulders.
I guess its time to ask the most important question of all Kae: “What happened back there? What happened to me? How did I get here?” Jackson and Ajax exchange glances Jackson: “We were actually hoping you could tell us” . Ajax rolls his eye Ajax: “basically Stonewalls here left you to fend for yourself so he can chase down and gut some starved peasants, luckily I saw the whole thing from my window and came to rescue you from a vengeful mob. They must have tried to beat you to death or something, you were covered in bruises” . Jackson offers no excuse or rebuttal, opting to finish drying you off instead.
The guard breaks the stillness when he returns with your things, they are covered in mud and blood. You equip: [Bushman's Shroud of the bear] [Leather Harness] [Hunting Boots] [Hunting Gloves]. Jackson: “Well, I have entertained you people long enough. Come on Kae, we're leaving” , Jackson picks up his sword and leaves the room with the guard. You try to follow them but Ajax grabs hold of your arm and pulls you back into the room Ajax: “Listen Kae I don’t know what kind of relationship you have with that man but you DONT have to follow him. People that deal with witches never come back whole and that man has made a profession out of hunting them, there is no telling what he will do and there is no chance that he is sane. Stay with us here, we can use the help and I know that I can convince the mayor to let me pay you a reasonable wage, we can really use your help restoring this town.” . Kae: “Whats happening in this town? Why were we attacked?” Ajax takes a deep breath Ajax: “Well, I wont lie that things are bad. The crops wont grow, the game is gone, and the cattle are dieing. Its gotten so bad that most people who can afford to leave already have, and the ones who cant survive off what the mayor is rationing. The people who attacked you seem to be trying to take advantage of the situation and have convinced the townsfolk that the mayor is hording food and selling it for profit. I DONT think it will turn into a riot but we need help Ajax suddenly lights up and with the witch gone im sure things will work out I just know it.” .
This town is on it's last legs and filled with thugs that want to kill us. We should leave with jackson while we can.
>>
I think leaving with Jackson is our best bet. Wouldn't mind asking for some justification about why he nicked off to kill peasants, leaving us to get our shit kicked in.
This is a good point
I'll switch to asking jackson if we can stay til we find the other guy.
Perhaps try and talk about the other guy enough to scare the mayor into hiring us to kill the other guy if hes still here.
Shit, was a while ago. he was the witches teacher right?
You want to talk to some one about a possible instructor to the witch? Who do you want to talk to about that? Do you want to tell Ajax about that?
Kaes staying. Regardless of wanting to go or not were in no state to travel immediately. She'll pass out if we leave know (we barely made it to the window, & we'll get a cold). While were lounging about being a fantasy neet we might as well become beat cops. Nothing makes me happier then the prospect of beating the downtrodden with J. Besides whatever J. claims he dealt with is bullshit. I love the single mindedness of the purge, but we need to see eye to slit on this. We might even be able to find the true bbeg while were at it.
>Kae tells Jackson she wants to stay. She wishes to make this town right before leaving on their honeymoon. That & she can' phycally be able to make the journey. Unless he plans on "romantically"carrying us the whole way?
You find it hard to keep eye contact with Ajax, looking down at your feet “Stay here? Well... I just... Hey let me ask Jackson ok?” you try to leave the room to find Jackson but Ajax pulls you back into the room again “I don't know what you see in that guy Kae, but I understand. You have your own destiny to follow and I wont force you to stay” he places a single coin into your hand; [artist] its made of a sleek metal that you have never seen before, almost like iron but far to reflective. It seems to have an image of a man protruding slightly out of it along with some symbols. As you run your finger over it you cant help but admire the handy work, is very beautiful but how can something like this be made? “While the mayor was here I convinced him to pay you out at least this one silver coin. I hope it comes in handy to you in whatever greener pastures you end up. he closes your hand over the coin, making sure you accept it before releasing his grip on you. “Don't say that, I'm sure Jackson will want to stay after I talk with him! You'll see, Jackson is a good guy, just a bit eccentric. With that you run out the room and chase after Jackson. [STR: Success] In your haste you have forgotten how bad your joints ache, causing you to almost tumble to the floor. Taking a moment to readjust your speed, you stumble after Jackson pain and all. Unfortunately Jackson has already left without you. A slight panic soon averted when you see him only half a block down the road accompanied by the guard. The fact that his steps are slow and winding is not lost on you, he is clearly taking his time leaving and when you almost catch up he readjusts to his normal pace. “Jack wait, I need to talk to you. Don't just... don't just leave me like that ok?” “I thought you were right behind me, I slowed down so you co...” “NO, not just now I mean. Um... Just don't leave me behind like that. I trust you so don’t do that again, please.” “...Alright, I understand” .
He turns to continue walking away “wait im not done talking yet” Jackson looks up to the sky then shakes his head before turning to the guard “some privacy please” . The guard nods his head and starts to head up the road, when Jackson turns his back to him he makes a motion with his hand indicating a cracking whip. “Go on then” “Well first of all who is that guy?” ”He is the guard that has been assigned to take us to where the mayor is storing all the food stockpiles” you had hoped for more time, asking Jackson to stay in the town seems to be harder for you then you thought, Jackson gets really scary when you start talking about witches. “Its just that, well maybe we should stay in this town for a while longer” ”you want to stay?” “Well this town could really use our help, and im not sure if we resolved the witch issue! Some one was instructing the witch thats clear and he could be in this town or maybe there is more here then meets the eye and...” you are looking at Jackson's feet instead of his eyes but you KNOW he is getting angry, when ever he gets mad waves of heat seem to obtrude outward from him and at present you feel his waves of fire washing upon your shore. But you solder on “And im not sure im fit to travel, you probably wouldn’t want to carry me. A joke haha... All im saying is we give this place a scour over one more time just a few days!” . You can feel his hands moving towards you, so you muster all your courage and look right up into his eyes and give him the most pleading look a young girl can muster [CHA:Success] When his hands land on your shoulders they are gentle, Jackson's rage seems to have either subsided or you simply imagined it. “Kae, maybe I was wrong.” Success! “perhaps staying in this town is your destiny after all” wait... “If you feel that you need to stay here, stay here. I wish you all the best Kae but im leaving maybe you didnt imagin it after all “but JACK, WHHY??' “Because I will not allow you to use me as a portal for you to dredge deeper into the pitch that is magic, I will take responsibility for not sending you back to town the moment we had met. But what ever happens to you will NOT be on my head' “b-but these people! They need our help” he holds you tight and pulls you real close as you squirm about “these people are already corpses That was pretty morbid, even for Jackson “you can stay here and get swallowed up, or you can come with me. But you will not talk to me about black magic ever again” With that he stalks off in the direction of the waiting guard. This time he doesn’t slow down for you.
What can we even do to fix the town? What skills does Kae possess for that? she's just some clueless Bushwoman
Going with Jackson is the only sensible route
Damn, a Charisma success and Jackson still left. I'm more inclined to stay since there's unsolved stuff brewing somewhere, and Jack just ditched Kae. I don't know what Jack's deal is, but he's not explaining everything.
>>[B]Stay behind [The chapter continues, and Jackson leaves the party]
Kae is probably pretty upset by all of this cold shouldering, but now isn't the time for standing around in the rain. Since Kae can track in the wilderness, catching up to Jackson will still be possible, even if he's gone off by himself. She should tell Ajax about the witch's instructor, and ask if there's any way to find where this person came from/hides out. And maybe ask about what she can do to help around town.
Kae should stay this is the last straw she should be taking from him. After everything that we've been through we aren't leaving "until" we deal with what we started. If we're staying we need to be dramatic about it. We should say something that'll cut deep into J. Maybe scream out that we hate him, that he's a monster & rip out the pages of art kae made for him in the notebook? That he'll never be are husbando.
Goddamit Jackson
I say we have to go along with him for now out of necessity, however we should split up after we get to cobuege. With how he is I wouldn't be surprised if our possession issues are coming from him, either way we gotta go.
On one hand going with Jackson doesn't feel very comfy any more. On the other it's definitely true that Kae hasn't showed herself very capable of rooting out black magic or help this town. I guess this could be a time to learn? For all we know Ajax is secretly a cultist himself though.
I'll go with B since I want to learn more about the situation I suppose. Kae should tell Jackson that the town may have an unfortunate dark magic problem, but it also has people worth dealing with and writing them off as corpses seems unkind. And she wants to learn how to find and fight witches and other monsters in human form better as well and improve on her previous performance.
>>
This is a pretty difficult situation. But I think I'll go with
>>[A]Go with Jackson [This ends the chapter]
I like Jackson, so I'm inclined to go with him. Maybe we could at least leave the village some warning like>>2509328
That was a savage talking down too, but you cant help feel that it could have been much worse. Jackson seemed so nice when you first met him, but now he seems so angry ALL the time. Where is that Knight that asked you to come with him on his journey? He obviously has a softer side, but you’re not sure you can deal with what ever issues he keeps projecting all over you. Either way you got your answer, looking back to Ajax's home you wonder if its time to leave Jackson once and for all... You want to help these people, it pains you to hear Jackson write them off like they are nothing. But what can you even do for them? Hunting is all you know and you’re not sure if that has any value here. You know what you REALLY want to do, you want to find the witch's master that could still be in this town. But on the other hand why would Jackson want to leave if he was still here? You may not know Jackson well but purging witches seems to be one of the central pillars of his ego. Perhaps you should trust him on this?
>>[A]Go with Jackson [This ends the chapter][%53.8]
When you were alone, scared, and hungry Jackson was the one who fed you, like a loyal dog you ultimately choose to follow him. Like it or not, it seems like he has for the moment become your master. So like a wounded animal shadowing its pack you stumble after Jackson, you don’t want to be left behind and alone again so you instinctively try to hide your wounds and stand upright. When you catch up to Jackson, you cant bring yourself to look at him so you focus on your feet. Step after step the resentment builds, as it reaches its boiling point you manage out three little words “I hate you” . Yet you keep following him, step after step.
You arrive at a broken down house; you have been here before, you even remember the guards. This time they are much more welcoming when they see you with one of their own. Your escort leads you and Jackson down into the house's cellar and inside you find a few hap hazardously stacked sacks of grain and oats. If this is all that remains of the towns food supply they are in bigger trouble then you realized. As Jackson goes about inspecting the grains you decide as a last act of defiance to write out a letter to Ajax detailing what you found at the witches lair and the presence of some sort of mentor. After a while, Jackson returns carrying a sack half filled with oats. It doesn’t look like enough food for one persons let alone two. I guess more starvation is coming your way. As Jackson starts to climb the stairs out, you take the opportunity to give the letter to the guard that accompanied you all this way, you make clear its importance and that Ajax must come to hold the letter as swiftly as possible.
After that you and Jackson leave together, unmolested, out of town. You don’t see many villagers on your way out, you wonder if the rain has made them scarce?
On a hill over looking the town you turn to face the forest and hills that used to be your refuge and home. You wonder if you will ever return here? Will the forests and hills thrive once again now that the witch has been slayed? Will anything good come from all this? So many questions left unanswered...
Tired of waiting, Jackson suddenly crouches down next to you and wraps your legs around with his arm before hoisting you up over his shoulder. You want to complain but to be honest you are not sure how much further you would have been able to get, where you have been drawing the inner strength needed to surmount your aching joints is a mystery. As the town becomes a smaller and smaller dot on the horizon you realize a new chapter of your life starts here.
Thanks for running this! I had a lot of fun catching up and playing the end here. On one hand it's a pity we missed quite a bit here, but on the other it's nice to have a somewhat organic world where we're not railroaded through every important event as well!
I'm really enjoying this end of chapter summary, as well. Definitely A for effort, and it's fun to see what might have been for the town. Just knew the witch was gonna be a fake-out, oh well. Feels bad to see Ajax die though, he was a bro.
>>2518783
>>2518842
I agree. The fact that we had an impact on the world without being urged down any one path was nice. I dig sandbox games.
>>
Also, I'm looking forward to seeing how anons handle Jackson from this point on. I may have voted to split even before this epilogue, but now that we've committed to following along out of town, it'd feel a little strange to immediately go our own way next chapter. Kae's clearly pretty fucked up where he's concerned.
>>
>>2518780
That fucker SAM. He probably set the fire too. I was hoping Ajax wouldn't perish in the fire, but alas. Poor guy. At least Loki made it out, so maybe we'll meet him again.
>>2518783
Aimed Shot, Toned Physique. Kae's an archer, foremost, and using Charisma has been a pretty steady thing. I think both will be very useful. I'd trade Aimed Shot for Swordplay, since I'd like to see Kae more rogue-like.
>>2518842
Looks like we're on the trail of the rogue sorcerer that Jackson has been hunting. And it wasn't witchery that doomed the town, so it makes me wonder if Jackson has some sort of precognition ability. Also >Didn't murder Kae even though he kind of wanted to. Shit.
I thought these threads would die on /i/, but I've been pleasantly surprised. Glad we saw the end of this little chapter, even though it was pretty brutal.
>>
>>2518794
Thanks a lot for the fun sojourn, looking forward to the next thread
>>2518783
Aimed shot and toned physique is my pick
I gave that some thought but im not so sure, she may be flirting with danger hanging around Jack but thats more of a symptom of her romantic nature then a core defining thrill seeking trait. She's just a bit thirsty due to being a 17 year old girl with no men in her life.
If anything I would say its more inexperience and curiosity then thrill seeking. If I add that just because she is hanging around Jackson (That has only 51% thread support) then I would have to account for it when the time comes to climb up a 100 foot stone wall with no equipment too.
I may end up giving Kae "idealist" over "kindhearted".
We already have" artist", Its one of the ways Kae 1st grew as a character
Its true, going around naked will boost your charisma with the toned body card but the way people interact with you will also be effected. Potentially setting the DC much higher and making talking to people much harder even with the boosted charisma.
it was also said that toned physique gives us "attractive" trait so I figured we'd have some bonus even if we don't strip at all
Aw fuck we're on HC what will we do if our connection drops? Bullshit I tells ya.
No such thing. +# is still a positive.
I think Toned is a solid choice, regardless of the reasoning. Charisma is one of the stats Kae is terrible at, and boosting it will be useful.
Also, last page, good bye thread.
I say toned physique to offset our low charisma (attractive most likely has at least a +1) and Aimed shot since bows are our speciality.
Love the quest OP, didn't realise how many plothooks we couldve gone with.
We should not get Stockholm syndrome for Jackson, he is quite a literal opposite of us. I really want us to either cut loose from him or find a way to fix his shit(which won't happen).
Kae seems to have trouble talking to people. Bows are our specialty. Why's our charisma so low?
"Bushman" reduces your charisma by 2 and gives +1 hp.
"Attractive" gives no base bonus. It just adds a modifier to your CHA roll when appropriate
Toned Physique is fine I think. It helps with a weak stat in a way that's circumstantial but can be planned around, it suits Kae's character, and it accurately reflects the fact that anon brains are filthy as hell.
