And now, the quest.

>"Go on and have a seat. Breakfast will be ready shortly."

"Take a seat, Sella. I'll be serving breakfast soon." I say, shaking my head. Nobody gets to work in my kitchen but me, even if they seemed competent enough like she does.

"Very well, Shirou Emiya. Mistress Illyasviel will require me to wake her. Please inform me when is a good time to do so." The white haired maid sits down near Lancer without a second though.

...Homunculi are weird.

My cooking goes smoothly after that, and by the time the food is on the table, Illyasviel and Leysritt are seated next to Sella. Caster is nowhere to be seen or sensed.

"Big brother said he was going to go check on something. Since he can stay in spiritual form, there's no reason for him to eat, or be explained." The girl's explanation makes sense, but... Somehow, I feel like there would have been more insults to the quality of my cooking, if she hadn't filtered it.

Of course, the peaceful meal is disturbed as my door slams open, and the woman the explanation would need to be made to appears. Surprisingly late for her, actually.

"Shirooooouuuu! It's awful!" Taiga cries, taking her spot at the table without any sign of effort and slumping over. "My two stars, gone! How will Archery even be able to compete?"

Her tears, while exaggerated, are true, but...

"Taiga, Sakura is just taking care of their uncle. You know how they care for him." I sigh. She's always like this when the condition worsens. "And Shinji has to run all the errands for them both, so of course he won't be attending Archery club until it's taken care of."

"But my starrrrs!"

The crocodile tears continue, and I let out another sigh. I know exactly where she's going to go with this.

"There aren't any competitions for another month. I'm sure they'll be back to club by then..."

"But Shirouuuuuu-"

Taiga's whine stops for a moment, as she realizes about the rest of table.

"Eh? EH?!"

It takes a few minutes for the cover story to be explained, but by the time we're done Taiga is bawling like a child, arms clenched around Illyasviel tightly.

"Illllyaaaaaaa-!"
"Big sis-!"

...And even Illyasviel is caught up in the storm that is Taiga Fujimura.

"It's so saaaaad! Your papa couldn't visit you because of his illness, and when you can finally visit him, he's, he's-" Taiga's bawling reaches a new height, and I manage to resist sighing yet again.

"I know-! Papa loved me, but Grandpa said I was too weak to visit!" The tears from Illyasviel are more or less the same, and I glance to the other three occupants of my table for their reactions.

The two maids are blank faced, like they always have been, but Lancer's expression is between bemused and despairing.

>Let the two have their fun. It'll do Illyasviel some good, and might make Taiga grow up some.
>Break up the crying. You do need to get ready to head to school, after all.
>Pull Lancer aside and ask what's up.

"Lancer." I say, just loud enough to get her attention. I stand, picking up my own dishes as well. "Mind helping me put some things away in the kitchen?"

"Ah- Of course, Shirou." My Servant is slightly startled by the question, but joins me.

The two of us make our way into the kitchen quietly, and I set to washing my plate and bowl as Lancer gives me a curious look.

"...You looked troubled. What's wrong?" I ask after a few moments of silence.

"They..." Lancer pauses, seeming to think as she looks back to Taiga and Illyasviel.

"Their behavior reminds me much of how one of my knights reacted when his son first arrived." She says finally, shaking her head. "Sir La- my knight played the part of an overbearing father, and his son was happy for the attention.

"Alas, after several years, the two grew apart, and became rather tired of one another. Then there was his indiscretion with G-"

Lancer pauses, shaking her head.

"That is another failure of mine I'd rather be erased."

The kitchen is silent for a moment, and I turn off the water and leave my dishes to dry for a moment.

"...What about your 'son'? I know you didn't have much chance when you were alive, but-" I start, and rub the back of my head. "Well, it seems like we're allied, at least for now. Don't you want to try and reconcile and accept her?"

"...Truly?

"I don't see myself as worthy of it. I only failed her in life, and that led to our deaths. Much as I'd like to know the reasons... I already intend to make amends with my wish."

The two of us stand there in silence for a few minutes, before I hear a loud slam, and my dishes clattering on the table.

"Alright! Shirou, I've decided!" I hear Taiga yell from the dining room.

"You're going to skip school for a few days to show Ilya around the town!" Excitement is clear in her voice, and Illyasviel nods along with her.

"Don't worry, I'll cover for you this week! Get your little sister settled in and have fun as a family!"

Her beaming smile and thumbs up are mirrored by Illyasviel.

Wait, what?
>>

It takes me a few minutes, but I talk the two of them down from making me take the rest of the week off. Both Shinji and Rin are expecting me to meet with them at school to exchange information, after all.

Unfortunately, today is practically settled in both of their heads, and I'm left reeling by the time Taiga heads out the door skipping happily at 'acquiring' a new little sister for herself, through me.

What's left is a somber looking Lancer, an Illyasviel that seems still energized from Taiga's relentless cheer, and two deadpan maids.

"So, Shirou, I was thinking we should do some scouting today!" Illyasviel starts off, still in the- admittedly cute- smiling stage of dealing with Taiga. "Where do you think we should start?"

...That's right. We need to get in touch with Archer's Master and try to arrange a truce. On top of that, there's two renegade 'Servant's running around for us to investigate.

Our first plan should be-

>Check out Shinto. An Archer should want high ground, right? Maybe you can find some evidence of them there.
>Check in Miyama Town. So far, the other Masters from Fuyuki all lived there, or near there, so..
>See if the mediator can put you in touch.

>Check in Miyama Town. So far, the other Masters from Fuyuki all lived there, or near there, so..
We can also see about doing some shopping while were out, or something along those lines.
>>

You know what?

We've been taking the careful and thoughtful options on this stuff, and it's worked okay, but we're still Shirou.

We need to be more reckless, or OP might drop another Dead End on us

Either
>Investigate the black muck in the Einzbern forest

Or

>See if the mediator can put us in touch.

Nothing else is stupid enough.

Let's see who we can meet for a casual encounter.

Also let's ask Illya about that muck on her property and if she knows anything about tunnels/caves there as well. She might know of something that could point us in a good direction.

After all the Archer class is made out of archers!

Changing my vote. Shinto seems like the best option of those two.

Sorry for the delay. I'm working on it.

I just need a few more tears. Ascensions are important.

Good man. Who are you working on, Ascension-wise? Jalter?

And this is why Gacha based games are bullshit.
>>
>>2497025
On the bright side, the game throws Friend Points at you like singles at a stripper, which is the currency you need to try and roll for Angra Mainyu, unlike the Saint Quartz you need to summon other, more popular Servants.
>>
>>2503288
Bit it's still, mechanically, a glorified slot machine to hope you get a character you like. Gachas are dumb, and inherently harmful to the quality of a game.

>implying Angry Manjew isn't popular with the edgier side of the Fate fanbase
