>Hey there guys! Warlord is back after some serious technical issues arose (broke my phone) but now im back. Im cocked, locked and ready to rock and I hope all you guys are. I will be creating a Twitter to notify when im running if you awesome dudes and grills wanna follow. Enough of my pointless blather, lets go murder some stuff!

Last time, we returned to the Crag to consult with Duergir and perform the ritual of the life drinker. After speaking with (and being bad-touched) by the Great Devourer himself, we gained the ability to absorb health from blows we deal making us a Sort-of vampire.

Before my technical difficulties arose we decided to go see Barbas so that's where ill open this up.

Good to see your up and running warlord.
>>
You roll your neck and shoulders, popping tendon and joints, shaking your shaggy mane of tangled black hair. The air is clear, the sun is shining, the unnatural hunger in your belly has subsided to a dull ache.

All in all, a good day.

You stride through the center of the Crag, nodding greeting to those that call your name, catching a apple you bite into it, crunching the juicy fruit with relish as you wade through a horde of squabbling youngsters. You chuckle and the surrounding Crag Wolves roar in laughter as a familiar blonde headed tot chambers up your back, using the advantage of height to leap onto the head of a larger boy, bearing him to the ground like a pink faced wolverine.

Ignoring the older boys yelps of pain and the laughter behind you, you step into the familiar, copper scented air of the Pits. Barbas's roars of rage and drunken bellows are punctuated by grunts of effort from dozens of throats.

Youre greeted by the sight the Pups, each burdened by a heavy, rounded stone. They each step forward in unison to Barbas's roars, crouching down and slowly rising up, their faces streaked with rivers if sweat through the grime.

"STEP!!"

Dozens of feet step forward at once.

"DOWN!!"

Grunts and groans as each boy crouches until they crouch upon their heels.

"UP YOU MANGY PUPS!!"

Grunts and wheeze as each boy pushes back up against the inexorable force of gravity. Some stumble but fear of Barbas's inarticulate fury pushes them back to their feet.

Catching sight of you, Barbas claps once, and each pup looks to him attentively.
"Good. Drop yer wee rocks and go get a drink an' a rest. Now!"

Almost as one, the Pups drop their stones and dash off to the small tunnels and alcove carved into the side of the Pits. Barbas grins at you, his gruesome smile revealing his numerous broken teeth through the wild thicket of his beard.
"'ello there Magnus he big ugly bugger! Heard ye whalloped some o'those Moonie cunts without me there?! Boy! Don't ye know ive not had a proper fight in years! Y'couldve taken with me ye at least!"

You gesture to the half empty skin of ale hanging from Barbas's belt and the flush to his cheeks and nose
"I don't think we could pack the... Supplies youd need Barbas."

You both try to keep a straight face for a moment before bursting into laughter, Barbas striding up to clap your shoulders and pull you along.
"Ahhh good point boy. Can't get good ale on the road anyhow. Now. What can ol'Barbas do for ye me lad?"

"How are the boys ive given you? They behaving well?"
You ask, leaning against the rough hewn wall of the Pit.

Barbas grunts affirmative, taking a hefty pull from his skin of ale.
"Oh aye. Pups are doing fine. The Karsus lad, the elder one? He's turnin' into a strong one. He's quick and clever, t'other boys respect 'im now that he's quit ragin' at 'em all the bloody time. The li'l one? He's like me youngest grandbaby. Wants to fight everybody and don't much care who it is. Good natured an' sharp as a thorn. Ive got 'im wit' the other young'ns. Cleanin up after fights and sharpenin' weapons an whatnot."

You nod in approval and wave away the skin of foul smelling ale as its offered to you.
"Good. Glad to hear that they're doing well. Id hate to deliver poor product to you after all."

Barbas smirks, wiping ale from his chin
"Don't matter much what kind of boy you bring me. Either they learn or they die."

"So.. You said something about me getting some liquor for the manhood celebration for the older pups?"
You ask, gesturing towards the bruised, scarred and lean youths that maintain the Pits, initiate warriors and the next group of fighters for the Crag Wolves.

Barbas nods energetically, waving towards the intently working young men.
"Aye aye. These lads, they're some'o the best ive trained in a long while an' I was wanting to give them somethin' better than the usual swill we've got"

You scratch your chin and lean against the wall, looking up at the sky.
"Well the best place to find some higher quality booze would be down in the valley. Damn near every village has an inn or a brewer or something."

Barbas nods, shrugging his massive shoulders
"There's lots'o opportunity to snatch the stuff when ya raid a village. Im no' asking ye to make a special trip fer it but keep it on ye mind boyo"

You look sidelong at Barbas and cross your arms across your chest, clearing your throat.
"Things might be getting a little exciting here soon Barbas."

The aging Warmaster looks at you curiously, raising a bushy eyebrow and grunting quizzically.
"An' what do ye mean by that lad. Somethin' comin up?"

You grin broadly and chuckle, nodding slowly
"Aye you could say that..."

You quickly lay out the situation with the Wyrm Killers and the Cave Stalkers. The impending tribal war could severely weaken both tribes and open them up to easy conquest.

Barbas rubs his beard for a moment, digesting your information and the implications before he smiles and nods once.
"Well done lad. Well done. Gettin' the rock lickers and those mopey cunts to slaughter each other. Stroke'o genius. Now.. Without Throth's say so we can't march to war but no ones likely to say much if ye were to raid the buggers a bit and stoke the fires."

"Seeing as ill probably be going against the Moon Lords and their soldiers soon, is there anything you can tell me about their forces?"
You ask Barbas, the veteran warrior having decades of experience against every foe imaginable.

Barbas chews his lip, his beard twitching as he thinks.
"Well the levies an' militias you've already had experience with I suppose. Not much more than some chain or leather if they're lucky, board shields an' farmin' tools or rusted spears. Th'Legion? Those buggers can put up fookina fight. Tight grouping, decent armor, each man of 'em trained an' ready t'go."

You nod, remaining attentive to Barbas as the Warmaster continues.

"If y'meet em on the open field yer gonna have to deal with their horses. Light AN' Heavy horse. Their lancers'll try t'hit ye from the side with spear an' bow. Their knights'll drive straight into yer center and try t'split ya right down th'middle. If yer either attackin' a spot they've been burrowed down into fer a while you'll have t'deal wit' their siege machines. Ballista, catapults, trebuchets throwin' rocks the size'o horses."

>Shield Breaker wins

>Learned Skill- Shield Breaker- Great Weapon Skill. A single attack that can sunder your opponents shield, reducing their defense and armor

Barbas spends the next hour or so going over one of a brutal series of blows designed to shatter an enemies shield and smash a hole into their defense. With your strength and favor of large, heavy weapons, this attack perfectly suits you.

You wipe sweat from your brow and kick away the shattered remains of a practice dummy, one entire shoulder and arm of the humanoid frame reduced to matchsticks. Barbas nods gruffly, a small smile on his face as he brushes splinters of the thin practice shield from his chest.
"Aye... That's how ye do it lad. Ye hit a shield right, it don't matter much what its made of. It'll bust and most likely bust the buggers arm as well."

You grin to yourself, imagining suffering a mans shield into fragments and rendering his limbs to jelly. Too many people think shields make them invulnerable, they need to be educated from time to time.

>Animal handling

Deciding to spend a bit of time with your quickly growing Griffin pup, you turn your feet to the makeshift eyrie the pups are confined to.

The massive shelf of stone overlooks a sheer drop, a constant brisk wind blowing through the gap in the stone as you approach. Children scatter from tossing the pups food scraps and bones, the beasts having grown quite accustomed to human interaction over the last few weeks. You smile to yourself as you see Arvel and Falhim sitting with their pups, scratching the beasts necks or brushing their plumage with their fingers. The pups chirp and coo softly as they contentedly lean against their masters.

"Hey there big guy"
You call out to your chosen pup, the large and scarred beast chirping curiously as it rouses from a nap, fixing you with bright, crimson eyes.
"How we doing today? Getting cooped up yet?"

The griffin squawks, scratching furrows into the soft stone with long, black talons and shaking its head, its nearly fully developed wings beating against the air for a moment before it pushes upward, snorting and trotting over to you, pressing its beak against your hand and chirping.
"Ahh id be bored too my friend, sitting here all day with nothing to rip or hunt. Soon though... Very soon"
You scratch the beasts head as it presses against your hand and chuckle as it nips at your arm, searching for food.

You pat the griffin pups neck and stand, making your way over to a bucket of meat and quickly sending some youths over to the pit to snag a few training dummies.

The pup watches you carefully as the boys return, bearing four straw and wood dummies. You use a dagger and slit the coarse cloth of their "torso", stuffing a hunk of meat within. You repeat the process with their "heads" and "limbs" before propping the dummies up against a wall.

You grab one by a padded arm and leg, heaving it over to your griffin pup.
"Get it! Tear it up! Get it!"
You yell, clapping and pointing at the dummy.

Your pup eyes the straw man curiously before sniffing the air, eventing meat and blood, cautiously ripping at the dummy before gaining confidence and shredding the poor target to pieces in its search for more hidden treats.
"There ya go! Get him! Tear him up! Get him!"
You praise the pup, grinning to yourself as the dummy is reduced to shattered wood and torn cloth. Straw floats down as the pup eagerly savages the dummy, whipping its head back and forth to shred the remains into nothingness.

"Now that's a good fuckin' start!"
Calls Arvel, tossing his pup chunks of meat to snap from the air.

You smirk and grab another dummy, your pup immediately eying the unfortunate mannequin.
"Ready boy? Ready?"
You grunt and toss the mannequin over near the pup
"Get him! Rip him up!"

>time passes

You cross your arms proudly as your griffin pup expertly tears open the chest of the dummy with his beak, ripping out the chunk of offal you had stuffed in there. With near surgical precision, the arms, legs and head are ripped free and searched for more treats. The stone is littered with straw, splintered wood and ragged strips of cloth and you couldnt be prouder.

The pup actually seems to be using the remains of the dummies to create a nest and he chirps proudly to himself as a Dummies ragged head is made a focal point of the nest.
"That'll do boy. Good job! Good bird!"

Leaving your busily building Griffin behind, you make your way to Hemmik's workshop. You've got a bit of loot and your pockets are starting to smolder

The smoke and ash from the forged tickles your lungs as you step inside, the rhythmic tapping of a hammer ringing out as you approach the main workshop. You lean against the wall as you enter, Hemmik sitting at a bench with his broad back turned to you, busily adjusting the hinged joint of his leg brace. He mutters to himself as he fasten the metal back together with small bolts and grunts in satisfaction as he works the contraption in his hands.

"Keeping busy?"
You call out as he turns, the small hammer looking like a toy in his hands as he grunts in amusement, his thick beard singed in places.

"Ah if I don't look busy I imagine some cunt will come an' gimme somethin' else to do won't they? I mean, I just finished an' yer ugly ass shows up."
He laughs, wiping sweat and soot from his brow as he fasten the brace to his knee, securing it with leather straps.

You laugh and shake your head at the belligerant smith before speaking
"I figured id come by and make sure you were actually getting some work done instead of tinkering around"

He stands shakily and tests the weight on his leg, nodding to himself before looking at you sidelong and snorting
"I get to tinker when I damn well want to. Now... Ye big ugly fucker, what can I do for ya? Been churning out good work with those new tools ye brought me"

>Trainer of men:91. +5 to command rolls and orders
>Griffin training:61. Griffin trust and skill increased.

The weeks pass by quickly as you throw yourself into work, eager to get back to raiding and fighting. You, Urhost and Wren drill your men till they drop, training them to fight as a unit, to rely on each other but to fight as viciously as possible. Spear and axe and blade are used to vicious effect to rend practice dummies to shreds and splinters. Men shout and curse as they spar with padded weapons, blurs of motion ending in sprays of sweat, spittle and blood.

You don't just keep your attentions on the men under your command either. You spend hours training your griffin pup, the quickly growing beast rapidly learning to maul on command, shredding practice dummies with brutal blows and snapping shields (planks nailed together) and spears (long branches) into kindling. The beast stands nearly level with your chest and shows no sign of being close to stopping growing. The long, dark flight feathers on its wings have the glossy strength of a mature griffin and you're sure the beast could fly far and fast on his own but the beast is far from being able to carry you into battle.

You stand against the stout wooden railing, the early morning light slowly creeping across the sky, a shaggy bearskin draped across your shoulders. Your women sleep soundly in the cave behind you, a small fire in Mylea's new Oven warming the interior cozily, the nights activities rendering them exhausted. You know it won't be long before they are full with children and you smile to yourself as you look across the valley of the Moon. You will take it. You will make it bow to your will and make it safe for them.

You will take the world for them.

You quickly dress in clean and well made furs and leathers, pulling your boots on you stand, fastening your dagger to your belt. You brush each of your women's cheeks with a thumb before stepping out into the Crag, quickly making your way up to Throth's home.

The air grows cooler as you ascend the switchbacking path leading upwards towards the split peak of the Crag. The homes of other, more senior warleaders are found at this level and you take care to walk soflty, not wishing to disturb the men. Finally reaching the summit, you find yourself at the entrance to Throth's lair, the den of the Old Wolf. You can hear muffled conversation and smell cooking meat and tea so you know you aren't waking the venerable warrior and his wife so you clear your throat and rap on the thick hide hanging over the entrance.

"Who is it?"
Comes Throth's gravelly tones, spit around a mouthfull of food. Sheema scolds him softly before pulling aside the flap and looking upwards at you
"Oh hello there Magnus! Didn't expect company this early! I was about to take this old crouch down on a walk and see how everyone is. Duergir told us that the summer is officially over and we need to inspect the stores and..."
Sheema chatters along as Throth chuckles, his plump wife leading you by the arm, pushing you onto a comfortable seat and pushing a wooden bowl of stew, a thick slice of bread and a steaming mug of tea into your hands before you can even respond. You raise an eyebrow at Throth and the elder Chieftan smirks, shrugging his oxlike shoulders before swallowing and setting aside his bowl, taking a gulp of the tea to clear his throat.
"Should've figured you'd be by sooner or later. Got the itch again? You aren't the only one it seems. Dagmar came by yesterday and spoke with me along with Ryk and Meeir. Hes taking his warparty, a hundred an' twenty men, and striking against the Moon Lords. Scouts are telling us they've been pulling back and a small town is near undefended. You frown, mopping up some of thick, dark stew with the bread and taking a bite, chewing thoughtfully. Washing it down with a mouthful of piping hot Frostmint tea you clear your throat
"I was thinking about raiding one of the other tribes, claiming us some more territory and bringing us glory and respect Chieftan... but those Moon cunts pulling back and leaving their territory, a town no less, unguarded smells tricksy to me. Do you think Dagmar is going into a trap?"

Throth chews his lip for a moment before nodding, setting his bowl aside.
"Aye Magnus, I suspected the same. If you think Dagmar and his men need some support, you can go along with him. You'll take a smaller cut of the loot but you'll gain my respect for aiding him."

Sheema putters about, patting Throth on his shoulder and sitting by his side. She looks at him and purses her lips before speaking
"That Dagmar is a... Foul man. He does his duty but ive never liked him much. Takes a bit too much pleasure in the... Perks of command. Ugh..."
She scowls in distaste before smiling brightly at you
"Not like you though Magnus, never hear a bad word from anyone about you"

Throth shushes her and shrugs, rolling his thick neck
"What Dagmar does in his own time is his business, whether or not I approve exactly the man is effective. A good fighter and commander. Id rather he spent less time looking at my position though"

If he falls in combat, we will honor him by leading his men to victory. Also our griffin pup might want to help Dagmar take flight, one piece at time.
>>
"I could reinforce Dagmar on his raid if you want. If it is a trap, we may be able to help him fight free of the enemy. If it is not, the raid will go that much easier."
You sit forward, leaning your elbows on your knees. You aren't eager to serve under someone as foul natured as Dagmar but his men don't deserve to be butchered.

Throth regards you carefully, squinting and working his cheek with his teeth before nodding with a small smile.
"Aye, that's fine with me lad. Maybe you can help keep the man alive. Even if it isnt a trap, you'll be back in no time. He should be getting ready to march here in a bit so you can go speak with him, tell him I want you to watch his back"

You nod, taking another gulp of the refreshing tea and stand, brushing the crumbs of bread into the fire and handing Sheema your cleaned bowl.
"Id better gather my men then shouldn't I?"

Throth nods, watching you leave with a small smile on his face as you step from his quarters
"Be careful boy."

You quickly make your way through the Crag, rousing your lieutenants. Urhost pulls himself grouchily from his bed, kissing his toddlers goodbye and accepting a good natured scolding from his Amazon of a wife as he dresses, kissing her farewell and hefting his axe over his shoulder
"Time to go earn my keep I suppose"
He chuckles at you, punching your shoulder as he falls in step behind you.

"Time to go steal it you mean"
You laugh, making your way to the valley-facing Cliffside where Wren makes his home.

"Wren!"
You call out, standing beneath a hanging mess of hides, wooden platforms and rope that make up Wren's lair. Like a oversized hammock, it hangs from multiple anchor points, swaying slightly in the wind. A flap falls open and Wren pokes his head out, his burned and scarred features uninsured by his mask. He yawns and scratches his shining pink neck and squinted at you
"'s early"

You nod.
"Yes. Yes it is"

Wren licks his lips, looking at you and Urhost curiously
"Going raiding?"

You and Urhost share a look before laughing
"Aye. You coming or should we leave you to your beauty sleep?"

Wren looks back into his home where a feminine giggle issues and he nods
"Give me twenty more minutes"

You blink in shock and Urhost laughs like a landslide as you both quickly make your way back towards the meeting place. Rounding up Balon, Lionel and Arvel takes no time and you send out runners to get the rest of your men to the center square.

You make your way back to your home quickly to grab your equipment, being careful not to wake your women

As much as I like having a ton of weapons, we really should consider trading some of them off for loot or favors. Do we really need the fighting dagger, haralds saber or eolhims legion sword? The dagger of thorns could make a nice concealed weapon or last resort, the battle spear and fuckhammer are our signature weapons, and the storm blade is so ridiculously strong that we should never leave home without it. The shield is great for defense and triggering moonfags, and the throwing axes give us a ranged option. But we have literally never used haralds saber, eolhims sword or the fighting dagger, and they are not better than what we normally use. Let’s trade or sell them off for something else that we would actually use.

>Gear locked in
>Storm blade
>Blessed greatshield

>DarkSteel Battle Spear

You strap the sheath to your Battle Spear to your back, the weapon cooling the air around it, almost eager for battle. Your bundle of throwing axes goes onto your belt, the heavy hatchet sharp as razors and balanced near perfectly. The ancient storm blade goes across your hip, the tip nearly touching the ground, your stature letting you wear the greatsword like a lesser man would a normal longsword. The weapon tingles the skin of your palm as you grip the pommel, your shield resting across your back, a thick leather strap stretched tight across your chest.

You wake your women gently, bidding them farewell. Ysolde and Mylea clutch your neck, showering your cheeks and lips in kisses while Keera timidly presses herself against your side. Ysolde grips your chin and looks into your eyes
"Don't die and leave us alone here"
She growls, smiling softly as you nod cockily

"As if those weak men could kill me"
You laugh, freeing yourself from their clutches and making your way out of the cave, waving back at them before ducking out into the light.

You can see Dagmar's warparty forming up with yours standing a short distance away. Urgost and Wren lean against a large stone and watch the larger host carefully, disapproval on Urhost's face.

You look over Dagmars men and aren't impressed. His force is mostly raiders, armed lightly and armored in leathers and hides. Some carry shields of wood and stretched hides while others carry paired knives, shortswords or hatchet. A force designed to hit and run, striking fast but shattering at the first hard blow they receive. Only a single group of thirty Skirmishers join the host, the men mostly armed with javelins and slings. They are dirty, coarse men and are a sheer contrast to your more disciplined and heavily armoured men. Even the thirty raiders you yourself command are stoic and more evenly equipped, ready for a multitude of situations. With the thirty warriors and thirty Skirmishers commanded by Urhost and Wren, you know your force, while less numerous, could win the day against Dagmar's host any day of the week.

The smaller men move out of your way as you shoulder them aside, looking across a gap in the crowds where a lean, dark haired man stands conversing with his subordinates. He is a head shorter than you with blue and green paint smeared across his face in angular, twisting designs. Darkened steel and leathers protect his chest, forearms and shins while a cruelly serrated shortsword just from his belt. He turns and eyes you curiously, a thick pink scar stretching from the corner of his mouth to his ear.
"Well. You know how to make an entrance dont you?"
His voice is low and soft, the smile on his face never reaching his eyes as he steps forward, looking you over and framing his neck to look past you at your gathered men.
"What are you and your little band of toy soldiers doing? This is my raid"
He crosses his arms, his lieutenants stepping up to flank him, one a painted raider, his face obscured behind a leather mask and the other a smirking, red haired man with a crossbow the size of a large child.

Throth wanted me to watch your back. This is your raid, and he spoke highly of your skill as a commander but my forces are there to support yours, they are not yours.

You gesture towards your men and nod at Dagmar
"Throth wanted me to watch your back. He thinks the moonies pulling back might be a trap. It would be a shame for one of our better warleaders and so many men to get cut off and slaughtered."
You begin amiably, seeing Dagmar scowl but nod in agreement to your logic.
"Throth speaks highly of your skills, figured I may be able to pick up some new skills and get a bit more experience."

Dagmar chews his lip, looking over you critically before nodding
"Fair enough. You and your boys can come along. You'll take a smaller cut though. This is MY raid, IM in command and you will remember that"
Dagmar steps forward, looking you squarely in the eyes, thumbs tucked through his belt.

You nod, youd expected that and you can take a cut to your takings
"Aye. I figured that and im fine with taking less"
Dagmar smirks to his lieutenants but you forge on before he can gloat.
"But remember this, I am helping you on my own decision. They are MY men. I command them. Not you."

Dagmar scowls, his men sharing a look as he seems to want to berate you, maybe even fight you over the challenge to his authority but he seems to think better of it, smirking at you and nodding

"Good. I hope they can do their jobs because I wont be wasting time worrying about them. Fall in behind us."
without another word to you he turns on his heel, lifting his shortsword high and bellowing to his nen
"We march to Crescent Hall! Those Moonie fucks are gonna remember this day!"

You sigh in exasperation as Dagmar and his two cronies lead their host of raiders ahead. You look to Urhost, Arvel and Wren and nod, setting off after the warparty.

Your lieutenants flank you and you turn your head, speaking to them
"Throth is sending us to keep these cunts from getting butchered. Dagmar is arrogant enough to lead them straight into it and get them all killed. Lets not let that happen"

Urhost grunts, spitting onto the trail as he walks alongside you.
"This group hes got....They'd get carved apart by any cunt with armor or a horse. Anything happens and they'll be less than useless"

Wren gestures toward the red haired sniper and clicks his teeth
"That one? Meier? He's a damn good shot but hes no woodsman. Hes better at hiding himself and taking one shot than he is leading men."

Arvel scowls at the painted, masked, half naked raider walking closely behind Dagmar.
"That'n? Ryk? Bloody madman. Bit his own tongue off in a fight. Wears that mask cause hes even uglier than you Magnus. 'Es a damn good fighter, fearless and tough as nails but hes got the wits of a rabid dog. Dagmar nearly needs to keep him on a leash"

I’d say, Dagmar leads a very specialized war-party. He doesn’t fight like Magnus, well because he’s not Magnus. But just because he doesn’t lead a group like ours or fight like we do, doesn’t mean he’s a slouch. Throth doesn’t seem the type to just hand out praise. I expect Dagmar will know how to utilize his motley crew to its potential, I’d also expect that he’s going to see us as expendable meatshields because we don’t fight the way he does, just like how we regard his group as cannon fodder.

>Ask about the town of Crescent hall

You gesture ahead, towards the valley, the miles of trail ahead of you before the first camp of the night leaving plenty of time to discuss.
"Crescent hall. Does anyone know anything useful about it?"
You ask your lieutenants, hoping for but not expecting some tactical nuggets from them.

Wren rubs his chin beneath his mask and hums to himself as he thinks. Finally he shrugs and nods to himself
"Honestly? Not a lot. I know the town but ive never snuck into it. About three to four days of marching if we hustle. Sits on a hill against a sheer cliff that goes up a few hundred feet. Low wall, maybe twelve, fifteen feet and a gatehouse. The wall looks solidly built, stone and logs and earth mostly. Actual stone towers though, Probably have to deal with those quick on a full assault or well have archers raining down on us."

Urhost and Arvel grumble to each other and after conversing with Wren they offer up their own thoughts. Urhost ticks off on his fingers as he makes his point.
"Now.. Since apparently the moonies are pulling back a bit we can make two guesses. Either its a fookin' trap or the Highlanders and WildFolk are makin' a push."

You consider his words for a moment, chewing the inside of your cheek. An incursion by those barbarians from the north could be just the distraction you needed.

Urhost plows on, scratching his bald head as he does
"Even with the lancers and legion boys pulled back, we'll still have two, maybe two hundred an' fifty men to go against. Maybe more if the damn townies join in. If we get bogged down, might be going against four to five hundred fuckers with pitchforks an' hammers."

You curse, this seems awfully ambitious for a force numbering only two hundred and ten men. But with speed, ferocity and sheer ballsiness, it could be done.

Arvel chuckles to himself as he butts in
"Wren said there's a drop off above the Town? If'n we felt frisky enough we might be able ta climb down it, hit em from both ends at once!"

You smirk to yourself as you consider a stealth assault into the rear of the town by scaling a sheer cliff.

Yeahhh. THATS gonna happen.

>Ask about Dagmar and his record

You file away the information on Crescent Hall for later when youve got the time to focus on a strategy. You incline your head towards the laughing and cursing raiders, their cocky leader swaggering along at the head of his party.
"And Dagmar? Ive not had many dealings with him and I don't know much about the man. Seems like a cocky little prick though. How did he get such a reputation?"

Arvel coughs, spitting onto the trail and scowling.
"Ive no idea where 'e got such'a high idea o'himself. All 'es done is hit a few villages, raided the Cliff Men and Wave Hunters a few times. 'es a upjumped lil cunt if ya ask me"

Urhost cuffs Arvel across the head and scowls
"Right as he is, Arvel don't know what 'es talkin' about. Dagmar has led a good few raids. Mainly on Moonie villages and the Cliff men but he really got Throth's attention when he hit a Troll Slayer warparty in the night. Killed near eighty of their men and secured our territory against them for more than three years now. He's a cunt but hes a cunt that knows raiding. Hitting from surprise, in the dark, from behind and then skipping away with all their shit before they even know what happened. This? This raid hes planning? He don't have the men for it. A town is too big, too hard to secure with men who can't stand their ground against trained men. We'd be better off hitting villages"
He shakes his head in dissappintment before continuing
"Even if this goes perfect, odds are most'o his men'll bite it. They simply aren't ready for this"

You look pointedly to your men marching behind you in a loose formation, each man intense and focused, a stark contrast to the near-savage appearance of Dagmars raiders.
"But WE are"
You grin viciously, knowing you'll be directly in the thick of the fight.

Wren speaks up, clenching his fist, working the leather of his glove
"He's... Cruel. More than he needs to be. Man's near as bad a Black Hand. Least those fucks don't get off on it. They just do it to honor their gods. Ive heard things that make even me sick about that little shit"
Wren growls darkly, narrowing his eyes as he watches your (for now) raid leader.

You take note that his other hand is firmly gripping the hilt of a long bladed dagger and make a mental note to keep Wren away from Dagmar when hes sleeping. Or eating. Or pissing. Or... Generally existing.

>Cont
>>
>Ask about Moon Lord activity

Deciding that a conversation change would be a good way to avoid Dagmar gaining another hole to breathe through, you put forth your next question
"Anybody heard anything about the Moonies? Ive been keeping my head on other things and haven't really been listening closely"

Wren jerks his head up and seems to snap out of his murderous thoughts for a moment. He points toward the north and gestures expressively
"Ive gotten birds back from a few of our far ranging scouts. They say the moonies are moving a huge chunk of the legion up north towards Valls Gate. Odds are they're reinforcing the garrisons they keep at their forts there. That could mean that the Highlander, Khartarans, WildFolk or hell.... A tribe of ogres might have wandered up. They don't move nearly twenty thousand men for nothing though. There's still their reserves, lancers and town guards left around but the main bulk of their forces is up north"

Urhost laughs, slapping Wren on the back and nearly making the slender scout stumble
"Wren's little birdies tell him so damn much its a wonder he talks to us at all! But the mopey prick has a point. If those sheep fuckers and horned asswipes are giving the Moonies trouble, thats damn near an open invitation. It is nearing harvest season after all and thats a damn good time for those buggers to swoop in and try to steal... Well a shit load of food. Which is usually in short supply up in the wastes. Unless you like roots for every meal."

Arvel butts in yet again, his red bearded face twisted in a evil grin
"Or maybeee... Hear me the fook out Urhost. Maybe its'a trap. Maybe the Moonie let us find out that they were pull in back and there's a buncha those lancers ready to fook our asses? I like me ass unfooked thank ya."

>82. Happy trails.

Even though the Mountains of the Shattered Peaks are a inherently dangerous place, you're in friendly territory for most of the days trek. Dagmar and his raiders joke and curse and talk loudly, excited for what they believe will be a easy and glorious victory. You spend time thinking over the possible routes of attack on the town of Crescent Hall.

You're still thinking it over when you finally make camp in the foothills of the mountains, overlooking the valley of the moon. Tents and lean to's are quickly put up and the nights sentries, with your insistence, are put to their watch.

You sit at a knee high ring of flat stones, a small fire flickering within and heating a iron mug of tea. You scratch your beard and look up at the whirling stars over head, the bright, baleful light of the full moon casting pale shadows on the rocks.

Dagmar and his cronies sit around a campfire, joking and telling war stories, being careful not to outdo their leader in their boasts. The men are already nearly celebrating and it doesn't bode well to you.

Urhost and Arvel are playing a game with carved lumps of bone and stone, trying to outdo each other on the totals they bring and respectively grinning and cursing.

Wren sits atop a large stone, taking a night watch, his hard earned paranoia not letting him relax out in the open. From the position of his bow across his knee you know he could snap off a shot in less time it takes to blink.

Lionel and Balon sit with a small group of Urhost's warriors, passing around a skin of mead and telling their own war stories to the men. Balon especially takes to the brutal storytelling, going into great detaik about crushing a Highlanders skull under his boot.

>>
>>2490129
He might, I don’t see him as giving much of a shit about anything that doesn’t serve his needs. Technically, we’re his rival, and while some war leaders won’t see it that way, I think Dagmar does. If Throth is going to pass on leadership of the tribe, it’s going to be to the warleader he trusts most, so if there is an ambush and Dagmar can get away and leave us fucked. Then he can run back to throth and spin a story that he did his best but we died, and there’s one less rival for him to worry about.

I think we definitely need to coordinate with him but keep our eyes and ears open
>>
>>2490139
Nah, he won't leave us. Cowardice would not be tolerated and Troth would know why his warband got loot and Magnus never came back at all. We should be more worried about him killing us than him leaving us behind.

You sigh to yourself and stand, dusting the thin mountain soil from your palms as you do. Urhost gives you a knowing nod and you chuckle to yourself as you turn towards Dagmar's campfire, surrounded by the raider himself and his senior fighters. Dagmar pulls heavily from a skin of ale, laughing at some joke told by Meier, the redheaded sniper fixing you with a cold eyed stare.
"Dag. The ogres back. Think he smelled food"

Dagmar focuses on you, carving a strip of meat from a roasted leg of goat as you approach. Ryk makes to stand and block your path but Dagmar brings him to a halt with a click of his tongue,
"Ryk. Let him by. Not like you could stop him anyway"

The masked raider glowers at you, the painted leather of his mask catching swirling shadows in the firefight as he unhappily steps back, his hands clenching and unclenching as a low gurgling growl comes from under his mask.

Dagmar and his men look to you, the man himself sitting easily against a outcrop of stone, gnawing a piece of the greasy meat with relish
"What can I do for you Magnus? Need me to explain how to camp for your men? Or did you want to volunteer for a night watch?"
