You know, things used to be a lot simpler. People went to work, went home, had sex, had kids, then they died. Repeated as needed. Now, though. Things aren't that simple anymore. At least, not for you. You see, you're a hard man living a hard life. In the one region of the world where those rather ordinary human activities don't go on anymore.

What's that? You want me to be be clearer and get to the point! Alright, alright tough guy. Here's the deal. It's the year 2150. About a century ago something woke up in the Northern Atlantic and took a massive shit on the Human race. Europe, Northern Africa (as in the continent!), the middle east, and Western Russia were contaminated by alien lifeforms. Within a few weeks the greatest powers in the world nuked and set up a nearly thousands of mile long kill zones around the affected regions. Partially containing the threat. Within in a few weeks the source of the infection had been identified as a newly risen land mass. A strange, otherworldly city. In that same time frame benign alien life forms made themselves known. Offering a helping hand to mankind in their own, bizzare ways. A coalition of races managed to completely contain the threat, but not eliminate it. That might be impossible, but such is life.

Here's where you come in. The lands in question are some of the most valuable real estate on the on the planet. Reclaiming the lands through weapons of mass destruction is out of the question as they would ruin the land. Conventional forces are out, too. Can't pay enough money to justify the risk. Alien assistance? Good luck, trying to get across simple ideas to the Crabs, Ghosts, or Squids is about as difficult as trying to change a light bulb with your tongue while balancing on a pole. Besides, we've gotten everything of value from them already, worthless nonhuman trash. No, it's a privateer's game. You field the risk, you get the reward, and society gets a couple thousand acres of land back every year. Win win.

How do you go about it? Reclamation efforts. Survivors and illegal homesteaders, bought or forced off. Or, made official if they're pros with hardware. Aliens, killed on sight, yes, that includes so called friendlies. The treaties don't mince any words on the subject of terrestrial sovereignty. Crabs get the moon, Squids get select areas of Antarctica, and the Ghosts get occasional head space along with hypothetical "future" land claims. VERY, far future. Only native soil they get is their own grave markers. Practitioners of illegal magic, killed on sight. Other Privateers? Well, this business can be a hard one. Choose your targets and friends VERY selectively.

A, You start in London. Once ruled the world, now it's a ghost city haunted by aliens and hardened human survivors. Rumors speak of privateers that fancy themselves neo technological knights and run their own little feudal states. Offering a protection from the horrors outside of their little slices of heaven.

So, you being the asshole that you are. Decided to go to the most hostile region on the face of the earth minus the Alien controlled lands in Antarctica. Hell, while you're at it. Why don't you take a summer vacation in fucking R'lyeh. I hear the tortured screams of the damned and dying there match the lovely noise of snapping spines fed on by the vile Star Spawn that dwell there. What's that? Oh, you're right. Sorry. You are going to the third most dangerous place on the planet. Fucking smart ass.

Moscow. Radioactive. Monster infested under cities. Insane, armor piloting alien hunters that trace their ancestors back to the Spetsnaz and Cossacks, and don't like competition. Sorcerers societies of questionable legality, but undeniable lethality. Frequent reports of the Crabs up to no good. And, finally. Black market dealers in alien artifacts. Doesn't get much worse than that. To summarize it for your pea brain. It's a lot of well trained killers with access to the best gear on the planet that are highly territorial. Play by their rules, or keep your head down, way down, and you might make bank fleecing the locals out of some choice black market deals. No land reclamation efforts outside of a few desperate groups that can't pay you anything for their barely legal homesteading. No hunting at all without proving yourself to the blooded hunters. Yeah, good luck with that one.

So, how are you going to make your coin, asshole?

So, you touch down in Russia. And the first thing that occurs to you is that you want to A, help the common man and B, the rumors surrounding this place are bullshit. These Russian "cucks" are just chumps waiting to be worked over by your. I mean, it's not like there's any hardcore hunters around these parts who have actually had their brains surgically removed and placed into combat armor so they can hunt all year round, 24/7, right?! Nobody would be that crazy!

Anyway, before we begin here's the rules in a nutshell. You've got a few chances to fuck up before your ass is hamburger meat. Every time you get injured your "condition" slides a little bit closer to fucked. Now, you've also got two additional resources that can allow you to circumvent tough situations. Weaponry and Sorcery. These only work in some situations. Sometimes they'll work ahead of time, sometimes during the disaster, sometimes post. However, they aren't absolute solutions, and when they're used up, they're gone. That's it. Your flying by the seat of your pants at that point. Resting can restore your condition if its just exhaustion. However, if you're hurt than you might need to scrap the entire mission your on and move on with your life, no matter what is sacrificed in the process. You start the game with that nasty looking piece of hardware in the OP picture. It's a suborbital landing power armor. For all intents and purposes it is your sole weapons platform and survival craft. Home, shelter, lover, mother. Without it you're fucked. It's ammunition represents your weapons options, guns, energy beams, and missiles make up its averments. The guns and missiles have to be repurchased after use, the energy can only be used a few times a day before it needs to recharge. You'll get the option to change her out later, if you survive. Your sorcery is what you've picked up prior to moving into this current area. You don't like magic, at all. It's dangerous and antithetical to the human condition. It's hurts your brain. The few spells you know are only for dire emergency. Unless you suddenly get a case of magic fever, this attitude isn't likely to change. You know how to start a molecular fire, how to create a dimensional gate, and how manipulate gravity in a localized area temporarily. Even a properly executed spell runs the risk of ending your life, and anybody nearby as well.

Your current mission is to locate people in need of localized reclamation work and break into any underground artifact networks you can find. You decide to heads towards Chernobyl. A sleepy little village where things were just starting to look up before the world went mad again. There's no longer any risk of radioactive exposure, but there' far worse things lurking around. As well as "other" radioactive areas from the nuclear disasters that happened during the bombing containment efforts from a century prior.

You've just departed from the orbiting privateer station, Knife Edge. Your fall through Earth's atmosphere went off without a hitch and your insertion into the infected zone North East of Moscow was successful. You're are currently registered under a mission of mercy assistance and locational salvage. This is as "white" as you can get. Most organizations with their heads screwed on remotely right will respond positively to your presence, that is if they actually believe your designation. Few privateers are as "selfless" as you are claiming to be.

>Consensus is for a fusion of D and B with emphasis on D.

You don't have much interest in the Russian countryside or dealing with the madness in Moscow. Moving out as soon a possible seems to be the best option. However, you are still in the shadow of Moscow and could be caught up in the actions of the local forces, so you send out four drones in a rotational scouting pattern expanding your awareness to about four miles in every direction. Chernobyl is over five hundred miles away and at your current pace it will take a day to arrive through the wilderness. Half, if you travel along the ruined highways. Your goal is to find peaceful homesteaders and valuable technology or relics to salvage and sell.

>A, Travel using through woods.

>B, Travel using the ruined highway system.

>C, Travel along an old railroad, same rate as the woods except increased risk but greater chance of reward.

>D, Travel an oblong path using select scouting, nearly no risk or reward. Will take five days, half of your current rations.

You don't want to miss out on any opportunity for good finds but you're itching to get on to Chernobyl, so you pull up some old maps of the area on your HUD's display. Unreliable, being a century out of date. They'll at least let you track out the old commercial paths. The maps show exactly what you are looking for. A commercial railroad that goes straight from Moscow to Chernobyl. This will cut your travel time down while also bringing you across several interesting way stations. You head out!

The forest is calm as you gallop along the old railroad. Your drones show a clear path ahead, only occasionally recommending you leave the ruined track when suspicious things lie in your path or to close to your flank. As you near your first point of interest, an old military base. Two of your drones scanning ahead go dark. You recall the other two behind you and ready yourself for battle.

>A, Send more drones to gather information, this may deplete your remaining supply of drones (6)

>B, Arm your primary long range weapon system and proceed slowly (uses ammo)

>C, Proceed stealthily and employ ambush tactics (this risks your health and your armor's integrity)

You creep up with your weapons hot. The thing that blew your drones out of the sky comes into view and it's about what you were expecting. Some kind of synth soldier, god knows where it came from, but at least the tech looks somewhat human. There are a few dozen patrolling, looks like your drone didn't make you any new friends. Luckily, they're only armed with rifles and should mounted launchers, you doubt they'd be able do to much damage even if you were to engage in close quarters combat. Still, they could be rigged to blow.

Taking aim with your twin barreled beam cannons. You spread the vector of the two beams out into a thirty food wide kill zone. A serious of loud clicks and the smell of ozone fills the air. An instant later an explosion rips out from the synth forces and they go up like roman candles. Their charred corpses hit the ground as the shells in their clips explode out of sequence like firecrackers. Comically gyrating their bodies on the ground until the shoulder mounted launchers explode wiping them out and blowing open the base's fence. You hear a loud siren going off. That got their undivided attention.

>A, Retreat.

>B, Continue into the base proper and begin the whole sale process of "reclamation."

>C, Wait for further response from the base.

>D, Send drones into scout.

Hold off the shooting, scout out and formulate an attack plan. We need Intel in order to survive, we don't know what the base holds.

You decide to press the assault and release all six of your drones to form an active battle map while you do so. Immediately, the danger of the situation becomes apparent as you enter the base proper. The synth forces are everywhere, nearly 2,000 strong and all armed with long outdated weaponry horribly stitched or crudely connected to their bodies in some horrifying way. As a couple hundred take aim at you, you give the abominations a taste of what you gave them earlier. Your beam cannons annihilate the first few ranks, and set the back rows on fire. The flames don't phase them, but their munitions going off certainly do. Flames jettison twenty feet out the sides of your armor, rapidly cooling off your super heated beam cannons. Warning lights signal off in your HUD, they've launched some rockets and a few mortars at you. How do you respond?

>A, Rely on your signal jammer, defensive laser array, and armor to survive the hits.

>B, Take evasive action.

>C, Make your drones intercept (lose ammo)

Unfortunately, your nerve fails you. The weapons would have had almost no effect against your armor and its countermeasures. Also, rockets and mortar rounds are impossible to dodge post launch.

You waste time by leaping in the air as you are struck by a rocket that dents your armor and laser defenses that end up destroying your drones that get in the way of the falling shells. All six of your remaining drones have been destroyed and you wasted time for a proper retaliation so your enemies have gotten another salvo off at you. However, this time it's far more intense and actually manages to slightly damage your armor. You are now blind outside of your main sensors and have taken minor damage to your armor. What do you do?

>A, Retreat.

>B, Retaliate with your beam cannons. (requires cool down and flame exhaust)

>C, Charge into close quarters combat.

Shaken and angry. You release an entire salvo against the synth troops. Your four main auto cannons tear through buildings, rows of synths, and low grade bunkers as you blow every walking corpse to kingdom come. Your rockets launch fallowing counter trajectory arcs to the mortar shells that struck you. Ensuring it won't be happening again. By the end of the slaughter you're so worked up that you actually start tearing the straggler synths limb from limb using the claws of your armor. The silence that follows is deafening, but the sight of slain foes fills you with a guttural satisfaction. You are out of auto cannon ammunition, and only have few salvos of long range missiles left. On the bright side, your armor is much lighter now and can both move faster and use its energy cannons more often due to less burden on its engine.

You strongly consider retrofitting your armor with only energy weapons in the future. The last gen stuff is cheap, but it runs out far too damn fast.

>A, Do a cursory investigation and try to figure out who's responsible for these undead bastards.

>B, Start the appraisal reclamation process. This base is going up for auction immediately to pay you back for the repairs and ammo you wasted on that little tirade.

>C, Check for interesting salvage before investigating or the reclamation auction. You can't legally salvage once you've begun the flagging process.

>D, Tag it and move on. You'll probably be able to get far more for it locally in the form of favors rather than a cheap flip on the international exchange.

Imagine for a second the most autistic sperg you've ever met. I'm talking so mind numbingly annoying they won't eat unless the drapes in the room are the right color or their utensils are exactly six inches long. Now, imagine a genius so intelligent he could recreate the Mona Lisa from looking at it for a few seconds or create a working diagram of a fighter jet just from having the basic concept explained to him. Take those two concepts, merge them, and then times it by ten and you have the crabs. Also known as the Plutonians, or as the Mi-Go from "Yuggoth."

There is no personal space they won't invade, social taboo they won't cross, and horrible act they won't commit in their alien naivete. Originally one of the most prominent of the "saviors" of mankind. Their technology and biological abominations fought side by side with US lead coalition forces and drove the star spawn back to their sunken shit hole. However, since then. They've been more than mildly annoying mankind with their various "acts of goodwill." Worse, some people have created a so called "health industry" in requests for seemingly impossible operation the Mi-Go can perform at ease. Just be mindful of the unrequested enhancements they thrown in on top of the deal. Regardless, they aren't suppose to be in the reclamation zones or any where else on the planet outside of highly regulated "third contact" areas. Yet, as you finish up your fruitless search of the charred and mangled synth soldiers created from the ancient biomass of long dead Russians. One of crabs comes enthusiastically hovering towards you snapping its claws and flashing random fucking lights at you. The "mystery" has been solved.

You aim your energy cannons at it and overcharge them to send a clear message. The Mi-Go stops advancing and becomes very still. It has a limited perception of the thermal bandwidth (and linear time for that matter), enough to get that you aren't too happy to see it.

Slowly, it begins to blink a simpler pattern of lights at you, but this time you're prepared for it and turn on the translator aboard your armor. "Greetings friend, why guard death? Do rage consume you? Lettuce is tasty in July. Nice weather here in cold land 'em Ru-skies sure aren't not obtaining it, I bet. Talk about 'em cowboys! Want body mod or surgery? Free of charges! Powerful meds, good? Cool weapons for the kids back home, eh?" It takes you a few minutes to understand what it's driving at, but when you get it you're not sure weather to laugh or shoot the ugly bastard on sight.

He's trying a sales pitch on you. Or, more accurately. Begging you not fry his ass or report him. Probably a rogue crab. You don't know fully how the Mi-Go treat their "criminals," but you doubt it's a fun process.

>A, Hit him up for some cash and better weapons for your armor. Make the best of the deal.

>B, Kill him.

>C, Tag the area and move on. He can deal with his council of whatever the fuck it is on his own terms.

>D, As him what happens to criminals of his kind.

>>
>>2485348

It blinks a series of disturbing lights and color shifts towards you. The translator simply spits out one word, "Suffering." You disturbingly note that word suffering isn't a direct translation, but the closest english can produce. Other terms that hit within the 80% margin are, "Death," "Hell," "Consumption," "Food," "Reproduction," "Fertilizer." You get the point. Your cannon would be a mercy for the crab.

Leaving this "thing" to muck around a reclaimed territory is the greatest violation a privateer could possibly commit. Still, Mi-Go weaponry is nice, very nice. Cheap to maintain and wonderfully destructive. However, it's a one time deal if you lose it or it gets destroyed there isn't another Mi-Go that will replace it for you. They don't deal in direct tech under any circumstances. Something do with when they first made secret contact with the States in the 1940's under the auspicious disguise of the "Greys." Apparently, a secret organization ran amok with dumb downed versions of their tech and forced them to deactivate it in order to preserve humanity's "well being." They were called Majestic something or another. Ancient history, who cares. Long story short, they can hook you up with unparalleled bio weapons and gravitational waves. However, you've got to trust this crawdad before that can happen. Do you?

It is a risk, but i think it is one worth taking, Dunno how other anons will feel though.

It'll help us in the réclamation process.

Yes, get good weaponz

If we weren't risk-takers we wouldn't be here.

100% not the Mi-go right there.

So this is someone else?
>>
>>2485560
Or they're planning on putting our brain in a jar.
>>
>>2485560
By their own words they're some sort of crap Mi-go anyways. If we can't replace the weapons anyways, we might as well just kill it and take its stuff.

It will always be hostile.

>>2485405

I think thr carb will have to build it for us

They do.

They'll be great while they last. We could ask what the Mi-go is wanted for.

>>2485405
What crimes did it commit?

You strobe out an ultimatum. "Any illegal weaponry or equipment you have on hand is to be abandoned, and you are to remove yourself from the area immediately." The creature slowly pulls out a black box with one of its sides separated into two halves. On each side is an incomplete glyph that can be brought together to form a whole. It points the box at and the two halves slide together.

You don't hesitate this time. Your energy cannons fire and you leap to the side keeping your cannons angled at the Mi-Go. It explodes into brilliant blue flames and falls to the ground, twitching as the fire consumes it totally. You look at the area you were standing. Everything where you were at and behind it in a three foot swath is gone. Concrete bunkers and a few miles of forest flattened into sub atomic particles as a narrow beam of gravitational constant shifted their weight to what it would have been on a black hole for less than an eightieth of a second. You almost died. Looking over at the charred remains of the Mi-Go you notice its little black box is still intact. Score.

>A, Finally head onto Chernobyl and look for those homesteaders.

>B, Head back towards Moscow and find a buyer for this hot tech you just found.

>C, Try to mount it onto your armor.

>D, Flatten the place to the ground and sell it as farm land... Could be more Mi-Go hiding out.
>>

>>C, Try to mount it onto your armor.
What does the box do?

Gravitational weapon.

flatten the place with the grav-gun

You take a closer look at the black box, weary of the glyph side which has slid apart again. The sensors show nothing. It's just a wooden box with no electronics or components. Picking it up with your armor's cat like limb, you face the glyph side away from yourself and point it towards some of the base. Then, slowly force the two halves together completing the glyph using your armor's claws. Extending out from the box in a three foot cone, the light and air dramatically warp. Everything your pointing it at crumbles to dust for nearly a mile in front of you. Quickly, you release the slides and they snap open, ending the effect. You hope no innocent bystanders got caught in that.

The weapon by your humble reckoning is just as, if not more dangerous than an atomic warhead. Using it for any practical engagements is out of the question. You force the two separate halves of the glyphs off the box, and store them separately from each other. Then, crush the rest of the box as it's worthless.

Now, with your drones gone and all your ammo spent. You take off towards Chernobyl, more than a little angry at the crabs for depriving of your equipment. The land you tagged and put up for auction on the interplanetary marketplace. You'll probably get enough money to offset your fuel usage and repair your armor, but not enough to replace your drones or ammunition. No, the glyph halves will be your profit on that little expedition.

Where do you look for the homesteaders?

>A, Chernobyl proper.

>B, Northern Chernobyl.

>C, Ask at the nearest "township" for information, chance to sell your glyph, and replace some of your lost equipment.

>D, Do a grid search starting the south. Will take a few days but will give you total coverage of the area.

We came here to do stuff for the local townships; let's get started.

Once we get our drones back, we can do a proper survey.

Mi-Go are not capable of bargaining with humans. Straight up blue and orange morality. They're dicks, and the only way to deal with them at all is to betray them first, lethally.

Treat them like you would dealing with Dragons in Shadowrun.

Also we gotta get rid of those glyphs ASAP., preferably publicly because the Mi-Go hunt down anyone in possession of the symbols from their sacred moon.

You arrive at a shithol... Rustic... Russian hamlet. Filled with unsavory characters and what looks like a Mi-Go wearing a bad disguise as it pretends to read a newspaper twenty feet away from a Grey wearing a trench coat and sitting at an outdoor cafe. The Grey waves to you. You also notice a few other, slightly less suspicious characters. An Arabic man sitting at the same cafe looking amusedly on at the crab's shenanigans. A man running an open garage for Privateer's powered armors, and a man staring blankly at you in the middle of the street, looking like he just go got hit upside his head by a steel wrench. Ah, industry towns. They never fail to disappoint.

>A, Go over to the "Grey" waving at you.

>B, Go over to the Arabic man?

>C, Go over to the head case starring at you in the middle of the road.

>D, Go get resupplied and get the hell out of here!
