You decide to inquire about buying a digi-weapon from the weapons merchant, placing a melta pistol sized shot in a ring, it would be an excellent holdout weapon, however it is quite expensive as the weapons themselves and the Jokaero weaponsmiths that make them are very rare, which makes you wonder how the merchant acquired his.....

Unfortunately the ring will run you 100,000 thrones according to the merchant, although you currently only have 50,000 available, meaning you would need to take out a loan.....

You could also try to negotiate to get a better price....

A. Attempt to negotiate
B. Have your guards beat him up and seize the Jokaero for yourself
C. Go the animals stall
D. Pay the asking price
E. Go back to the ship

91 a good success

You are able to convince the merchant to lower the price to 20,000, after seeing how fast the Jokaero takes to manufacture a digi-weapon being made for another man who comes up to the stall...

You use a mix of charm and intimidation to convince him to lower his price, with you calmly telling the merchant

"I'll pay you ten thousands thrones for it, and ill forget seeing you hawking the wares of Jokaero, the inquisition would be very interested in hearing about a man selling digi-weapons and the masterful skills of his very own Jokaero weaponsmith...."

However you flaunt your wealth, having one of your men bring you the armored chest of 500 thrones you often bring with you in your ship's quarters as pocket money and a potential down payment on any major purchases assuming we send a ship with the payment immediately or arrange some type of long-term payment plan, like we have with the some of the ships and other purchases we have made...

The merchant scowls for a moment but replies

"20,000 thrones, and we have a deal"

A. Purchase the melta shot ring digi-weapon for 20,000 thrones
B. Pass on the deal....

"Deal"

"I want the 500 up front and the rest of the money brought to this landing bay on the station, as he hands you a piece of script with the docking bay number....

You contact the ship and order the astropath to send a message back to Tarkon to take the proceeds of a recent sale of iron ore to the mechanicus and rest of the cash on hand and get them prepared for shipment. You turn around and see L'Orean, one of the Rogue Traders you've done business with in the past, he is more interested in exploration and trade, acquiring many rare and exotic items, as well as strange xenos artifacts and technology....

"Lord Governor Valoran!"

"What a surprise! I would've never expected see such an important Lord in a place like this"

"I know the last time we talked I was pretty hard up, I had lost most of my ships, my xenos technology and many of my crew and several of my most important lieutenants"

"However fortunes have changed"

"My ship got caught on the edge of a warpstorm and I was thrown into an unfamiliar part of the sector"

"My ship and the last of my loyal crew were thrown into a pocket of space, that was previously cut off from us, my navigator tells me that an opening was created by the changing currents of the warp"

"We found several mineral rich worlds that can be mined or have the rights sold to the Mechanicus"

"We were only able to explore a few systems before we found our way back to realspace in familiar territory, as we did not have the provisions for a long range exploration voyage, but I have resupplied and gathered the best of my people and last 3 ships, however I looking for a financial partner..."

"You have been a reliable business partner in the past and I figure that you could provide some muscle with a few of those elite regiments of yours...."

"We can explore the new area together and share the riches in exchange for you providing ships and troops to support exploration and the conquest of any independent human worlds or xenos worlds"

You decide to take a look at the exotic beasts for sale, and have your people keep an eye out for anything/anyone of interest on the station....

At the exotic animal stall, the merchant shows you several beasts....

He has a pair of Pervidian raptors, large winged lizards(think a small pterodactyl) that can be trained to serve as companions/hunting partners...

He also has a dozen Tovarian Woodhogs, massive tusked hogs, that while they have been domesticated as riding and labor beasts in some systems are best for populating game reserves, as they provide a large amount of tasty beast, while being tough and intelligent enough to provide a very sporting hunt....

Finally he has several Volchen Gliders, a squirrel like rodent that have a wing like outgrowths of skin between their limbs and their bodies, allowing them to glide from tree to tree on their home world, they are a cute little creature and would make a good gift to Lara or your sister....

You decide to have the mercenaries prove themselves, meeting them in an uninhabited part of the hulk for a few hours, where Knight-Captain Jerus Warstorm and his 1st company meet you for a demonstration...

First several are asked to prove their marksmenship, upon being asked to do this, most of the troops seem nervous and afraid, and after several of their tests, you are told by one of your bodyguards, a stormtrooper sergeant, that just goes by Sergeant Lear, that the are performing at a level of barely trained recruits....

Furthermore, they are given a chance to demonstrate hand to hand fighting, being put in sparring rings with a few of your bodyguard troops, who enthusiastically try out for the chance to pummell someone... Except the Ogryn of course, who watch the fights with jealousy and amusement.....

The mercenaries are all beaten to a pulp in melee combat with your men, with many noses and more than a few bones broken....

After this embarassing chain of events their leader the Knight-Captain Jerus Warstorm, falls to his knees begging for mercy, as your men have blocked all entrances out of the area, now that the mercenaries have been exposed as frauds.....

"My Lord! Please!"

"We are just men looking to feed ourselves and our families, we were forced to abandon our world after raiders sacked the cities and stole the food supplies of Harvonia"

"Please let us go! If not at least let us live! We can serve you instead if you wish!"

The man then proceeds to grovel mumbling the rest of words while crying.....

You arrive to find your men standing on one side of the bay, and talking to the merchant's crew, in the background they are loading what looks like an old beaten up arvus lighter....

You notice a familiar marching scratched into the side of the ship as well as on one of the merchant's guards armor....

You mention it to one of your guards as the merchant approaches ring in hand...

"Lord Governor! Im surprised to see you came to make the exchange yourself..."

"Do you have my money?"

You nod over to the heavy chests guarded by your men...

Almost as if sensing it, the men in the hangar bay tense up, as you watch the Jokaero and its cage being loaded onto the shuttle....

Only two of your guards sustained injuries, which are relatively minor....

Rushing onto the ship, your men succesffully take the pilot and 2 of the pirates prisoner, while securing the Jokaero and the rest of the cargo, which includes weapons and almost 100,000 thrones.....

Captain Vaegir, a young Serathi warrior in one of your infantry regiments has come up with a plan to field 3 mounted regiments, the logic being, that since we have a large number of troops that already have horseback riding skills and experience, it would make sense to use those skills and our ample supplies of horses to form regiments of mounted troops.

Based on asking around some of your older officers with prior experience, other Imperial cavalry troops use a mix of swords, laspistols and lances....

The lances are known for using a typical lance tip, with a small explosive charge packed in behind it, making the lancers a threat to infantry and some light vehicles.....

The will of the cavalry is strong(although its a simulation) as the infantry hold their position to the last minute, and in a real battle your cavalry wouldve taken heavy casualties on the approach, however, the infantry break upon contact with your cavalry, and its likely they wouldve been cut down in their entirety...

There is also a few test designs made based on deathrider lances, which are tested on various targets...

Including a prisoner tied to a post, an old broken down chimera and a piece of power armor

Against the prisoner, the lance pierces through most of his body, before the explosive charge, turns the prisoner into a pink mist, leaving old his legs and his head and shoulders somewhat intact....

On the chimera, the first lance is unable to penetrate the armor, but a second lance striking near the same spot blows a small gap in the armor.... Large enough to throw a grenade through or stick the muzzle of a pistol into.....

Finally against the power armor, 3 entire lances attempting to stab it fail,to penetrate, the blast from the explosive leaving a small mark.....

Make the cavalry more armored, or have some light vehicles, give them shields, or have a vanguard of light vehicles?

That's one tough armor.

You decide to pay 1 TU to form the 1st Cavalry regiment, with the option to form new more specialized regiments around cavalry in the future....

You will make sure they are used at the next opportunity on a campaign that suits their role for further testing of the cavalry regiment concept....

Having spent the last few days doing regular paperwork and testing the cavalry regiment, you are pleased to hear that the woodhogs have been succesfully introduced into a small forested island a few miles off the main landmass on Tarkon in the northern hemisphere, creating a small game preserve, which is set to open in a few months, as luxurious hunting cabins are being built for the high end clientele that is expected to frequent there.....

Several weeks pass, as you catch up on paperwork and review production reports when you are alerted in your office, by the blare of the alarms on the spacestation, you quickly get up, and buckle on your heavy belt, along with your boltpistol holster and personal power sword before briskly walking down the corridor, two of your personal guard a few feet behind you....

You sit in the command chair and see an old beat down freighter on the edge of the system, small even in the pict-captures from the Warspite, your closest ship to the freighter....

They approach for another minute before contacting you over an Imperial channel on the Vox

The freighter captain reports seeing a flotilla of hostile ships in the Purveyon system, a brief review of the system in our archives reveals almost nothing on the system, and it appears to just be a place where merchants pass through....

The captain tells you that they were in orbit around one of the planets in the system, and that they sent a ship to pursue the freighter, but the captain was able to keep his distance to escape.

Planetary Defense Forces
Veteran forces grant a +5 to all combat rolls, as the represent units that have combat experience
Elite forces grant a +5 roll, and represents a higher quality of training and equipment, elite troops in our forces are equipped with void sealed carapace armor and a higher percentage of special and rare weapons compared to a regular regiment
Augmented grants a +5 to all combat rolls, as the unit consists of biologically augmented troops, through various genetic manipulations, these troops are stronger, faster and more resilient than regular human troops, although the genetic alterations can have adverse affects on the subjects, including sterilization and early organ failure
Space Marine- Unit has +10 to all combat rolls, representing the unsurpassed strength and ability of the Emperor's Angels of Death themselves, these units are dedicated, lifelong warriors, able to equip power armor, and wield heavy weapons
Ogryn- These massive abhumans, while not the most intelligent servants of the Emperor, are incredibly tough and strong, and make good close range defenders and shock troops(+20 to all close combat rolls)

2,000 Elite stormtrooper bodyguards(elite, veteran)- formed into the 1st and 2nd Storm regiments

Zachias wants to put the new neophytes through their paces by exposing them to a live combat operation.....

Harlan, the leader of the Luna Wolves also, wanted to show you something....

(You never looked into the cache of undisclosed 30k wargear stored on Wrath of Manachea)

He would like to support the operation, as he and his warriors have grown bored and inpatient in the absence of combat.....

He shows you a warehouse where the gear is kept, which in addition to housing several thousand astartes power armor suits, and millions of rounds of bolter ammuntion, he presents you with a squadron of Xiphon intercepter fighters, a storm bird and a pair of Mastodon heavy assault vehicles....

To your relief, you hear Johan's voice over the vox

"So you I heard you could use some help...."

Johan has added a lunar class cruiser and two sword class escorts to your fleet

Which consists of

2 Cobra-class missile boats- effective against enemy capital ships
1 Claymore-class corvette, the redline- a good screening vessel against enemy strike craft and escorts
1 Hecate-class light carrier, Absolution- a light carrier captured from chaos forces, serves as a light carrier
1 Dagon-class Grand Cruiser- a relic of the Great crusade, brought to us through the warp, effective all around warship

You decide to hold off on an initial strike, rather relying on ground forces to call in orbital fire support when necessary, also due to strikes from orbit being more precise when assisted by targeting information from ground forces, especially now that we have issued several of the new markerlights we purchased from L'Orean to company commanders and special forces....

You decide to proceed with the insertion of several squads of your best airborne troops and neophytes to perform a recon of the defenses around the xenos temple ruins and to call in precision strikes....

You have the regiment land several miles away from the temple entrance as well and form up for an assault....

The inserted special teams of droptroopers are armed with the Tzavaras Mk2 rifles, giving them considerably superior range and firepower compared to their standard lasrifles

Your neophytes are deployed in 2 12 man squads, each led by a veteran Luna Wolf Astartes warrior....

Each neophyte team is equipped with Tzavaras rifles, sniper rifles and bolt rifles, with a single man in each group bringing a missile launcher and heavy bolter to provide some fire support.....

They are inserted by Valkryie several miles away from the temple ruins as well, and will have to stealthily traverse through the barren red terrain......

Your men manage to approach the temple ruins undetected for a time, but one of the neophyte squads are ambushed by a group of Loxatl warriors....

One of them dives upon one of the neophyte warriors, digging its claws into the young astartes chest, while the other Loxatl fire their strange xenos weapons cutting down one of the Neophyte snipers, before being gunned down by fire from the rest of the squad, the sergeant manages to stab the Loxatl warrior ontop of the Neophyte with his combat knife, ripping off the xeno warrior and unloading several bolter rounds into its head and upper torso before seeing to the wounded Neophyte, who wont be able to be medivaced until the attack is underway, as sending a Valkyrie in that close to pick him up would be dangerous and reveal the recon teams presence...

The rest of the teams make it into position and have provided pict scans of the base, which shows a well entrenched position, including several Tarantula defense turrets, trenches, and sandbag barriers, as well as several squadrons of aircraft....

Markerlights have been set on several prime targets around the ruins by your recon teams and are currently uplinking targeting data to your ships in orbit....

While the heretic counter attack was powerful it pales in comparison to the combined might of the Emperor coming down on their ragged host, as the Crusaders of Dorn deploy a thunderhawk and droppod laden with Astartes warriors while your airborne forces join the assault, launching an airstrike on the hole in the heretic line, and landing airborne troops as close as possible to the entrance of the temple ruins....

Due to their quality of training and superior equipment your men are able to overcome the disorganized troops around the temple entrance with relative ease, the Tzavaras rifles issued to some of your airborne troops providing a decisive firepower advantage in small unit battles....

The Luna Wolves provide support in the form of aircover from their stormbird gunship and Xiphon fighters who sweep the skies of enemy aircraft, before turning their powerful assault cannons on enemy ground targets

>Scans read 10 contacts, and upon further scanning it looks like a Chaos raiding fleet, lead by a battle-cruiser, and is made up of that Battlecruiser, along with 3 cruisers and 6 escorts.…
We could focus on either destroying or capturing the battle-cruiser, which will be enough to rout the rest.
>>2474438
>Although its hard to tell, it appears they took on several transports from the surface before leaving the planet, a dusty red desert world...
I'm not sure what stuff will be on a Chaos Battlecruiser, but there's a good chance of uncorrupted artifacts from prior raids and excavations.

Which ship do you want to try capturing?

Intact ones that would require little overhaul, or just the big one. We honestly need more escorts and screening vessels.

>>2478054
>You need to rip it down to the bare bones, get it REblessed and then rebuild it.
Maybe we can make a business out of it......

I'd like to go for the Battlecruiser solely for the potential artifacts and intel stored within. However that will be the hardest to board, and I don't know how bad the corruptive influence is on flagships.
Is it possible to decorrupt a Chaos artifact?

>Maybe we can make a business out of it......
I'd be down, it's how salvaging businesses start.

You decide to drop off as many troops as you can, keeping a small contingent of elite troops on your ships for boarding actions....

On the surface below you order your men to take over enemy defenses where possible, and create a defensible perimeter around the temple ruins, with your two infantry regiments and as many of their standard artillery pieces and heavy equipment we are able to carry down in shorter reinforcing and creating defensive positions....

However that leaves the question of the escavation site and the temple ruins themselves, which upon inspection by a few recon squads, appears to be an ancient underground city, and seems to filled with bloodpact troops, who have dug-in with heavy bolters, autocannons and seem to have a trooper behind every corner and pillar in the complex....

First Librarian Brannock, fresh off helping your sister, leads the Crusaders of Dorn task force, consisting of a squad of terminators supported by well armed tactical marine veterans...

They along with your Luna Wolf Terminators have proven instrumental in the airborne assault, catching defenders offguard and easily overwhelming the enemies human soldiers in close combat.....

The Crusaders of Dorn advise they lead the assault into the underground ruins, their elite power armored astartes troops clearing a path for the rest of our forces... Including most of the 1st Ranger regiment, who while they are elite veterans, equipped with carapace armor, and well armed with grenades, plenty of ammunition and lots of special weapons, with most squads having a grenade launcher, flamer, and a plasma rifle or Tzavaras rifle, in addition to a variety of close combat weapons, including the occasional power weapon, chainweapons and some warriors carrying unauthorized Tarkonian battle axes and Serathi longswords, their primitive edges still more than capable of hacking a mans limbs off or inflicting mortal wounds......

A. Recall the Astartes troops for use in boarding actions
B. Have the Astartes spearhead the assault in the ruins
C. Other(Write-in)

I'd rather we be able to secure the planet and come back with as few losses before it being invaded again

If we disable the ships and their ability to run or attack, we should have plenty of time.

You decide to have the Astartes lead the spearhead against the heretic troops dug into the ruins.....

The Astartes from both the Crusaders of Dorn and Luna Wolves lead the assault into the tunnels, followed up by the 1st Ranger regiment, who find themselves doing much of the fighting as the Astartes are spread thinner and thinner through the fighting in the underground ruins, with squads taking the lead in the assault in separate sections of the ruins....

First Librarian Bannock leads his terminators first into battle, he himself wielding a deadly force sword and a hurricane bolter while the rest of this squad are armed with storm hammers/shields or powerswords and shields....

In the meantime your warships begin to form up the space above the planet, much to your relief the 2 new contacts jumping into the system are the admech cruiser and an escort coming at the best of Magos Xeroth to aid us against the heretic raiding fleet.....
>>
>>2478515
Jesus chirst, That's a great roll for once for once.
>>
>>2478515
The fighting is brutal, but the heretic troops stand little chance against the Astartes, backed by elite human troops as Brannock leads the loyalist forces in a relentless push against the heretics, often completely slaughtering or routing whole groups of the enemy before they can fall back and regroup in good order creating a sense of panic amongst the heretics....

Several more hours of intense fighting go by, as your troops clear the ruins room by room, corridor by corridor

The current casualties come in at 2 fallen Astartes, along with a half dozen more wounded

The 1st Ranger regiment has taken 50 casualties, with 20dead and 30 wounded, half of them taking serious enough wounds that they will never be able to serve

The force invading the ruins is contacted over the Vox on an open channel

"I am Captain Saalfeld of the 9th Kraveth Garrison regiment"

"We have been forced to fight by the Bloodpact, after our garrison was besieged and ran out of food and was forced to surrender"

"We are currently positioned in the lower level of the city, we have killed the Bloodpact overseers"

"Please have mercy on us! We do not wish to fight! We will throw down our arms if you promise us our lives!"

"We only wish to go home!"

The training, experience and superior equipment of your troops really shows as your eliminate the last pockets of resistance in the 1st level of the ruins complex, seemingly consisting of small apartment sized dwellings

Carapace armor saves men from wounds and serious death as it stand up well to lasrifle fire, with most casualties coming from enemy grenades and heavy weapon positions....

It doesnt take long for the first squads to enter the lower level, where they are met by surrendering soldiers at several defensive strongpoints, however several men are killed by a strongpoint that pretended to surrender opening fire after your men had gone out into the open...

A quick questioining of some of the surrendering quickly reveals that they dont control all the strongpoints, and that some are manned by bloodpact troops, while other groups of Kraveth troops failed to kill their overseers and are still fighting under bloodpact command.....

After another hour of fighting, over 500 men have surrendered and the remaining resistance is petering off in the second level, as the bloodpact troops seem to be falling back deeper into the ruin complex....

The first recon teams entering the third level, show what looks like texts on the walls and more statues and other items of interest, clearly some sort of temple or political structure....

It is in a section of the chambers of this third level where most of the surviving bloodpact troops have gathered to make their final stand.....
>>
>>2478596
The assault against the final bloodpact positions in the third level goes poorly, with an Astartes squad getting badly mauled by well executed ambush with a well hidden autocannon killing several Crusaders of Dorn and missile launcher armed troops bringing down one of the mighty terminators

The rangers take their fair share of casualties as well, as the skill and equipment quality seems much higher against the troops in the final level, with many of them armed with special and heavy weapons and wearing carapace armor....

In one instance a well hidden enemy sniper was able to hold up nearly an entire company of your troops, dropping 4 men before being eliminated by multiple designated marksmen who had to be called in to deal with the threat....

They also seem to be more fanatical as well, launching ambushes with melee weapons, and attacking with a ferocity matched by your men, whose feral worlds roots increasingly show in the brutal hand-to-hand combat in the tight corridors and small rooms of the ruins, as rifles are eschewn by both sides for combat knifes, chainswords, Tarkonian battle axes, and Serathi Longswords.....

The second attempt is met with much greater success, as it seems the enemies elite troops have exhausted themselves against you, using much of their ammunition and spending most of their lives in a series of vicious well-coordinated counter attacks that proved costly for both sides....

With designated marksmen, armed with sniper rifles and Tzavaras rifles, picking off the defenders from the distance, squads move in on positions of pinned down enemy troops, clearing them with grenades and flamers...

Your troops are able to clear the remaining resistance, with a small number of bloodpact troops actually trying to surrender as the final section was taken, but were brutally slaughtered, by your men whose bloodlust has reached peak levels....

Outside the ruins, the heretics detecting your ships no longer able to support your forces, have launched a large scale counter attack against your positions around the temple

Rolling for enemy attack
>>
>>2478620
The enemy forces, lead by several large groups of vehicles, consisting of leman russ tanks and chimeras supported by ground attack aircraft take a toll on your defenders, with dug-in heavy weapons, and brave soldiers, destroying enemy vehicles up close with missile launchers at heavy loss with almost 200 casualties taken, mostly men manning the trenches around the ruins holding the line against enemy armor and air attacks

A. Order a counter attack against the heretics

We could once we return the temple artifacts to the Ecclesiarchy.
But why would we do that when we could get an exotic harem instead?
>>

Because Battle sister harem is best harem you silly heretic, besides why not both?
>>
How hard would it be (how expensive) to form a few new regiments with hand me downs from the newer units getting refitted with new gear. We can probably raise 10 new pdf regiments for low cost and just give them a uniform since we have like over 100k lasguns and flakguard armour in storage.

I really think we should buff up the numbers, if only so they can take the brunt of casualties and not our more elite and valuable forces.

Just think how valuable and irreplaceable some of the men are. 1 Astartes is easily worth 1000 men and a veteran soldier worth 10 men, elite veteran soldiers probably twice or thrice that!

We also need escape pods, or survivability options for our ships so we do no suffer another incident like the loss of Edge of Tommorow with all hands.

>loss of Edge of Tommorow with all hands.
Was this a ship name or is this a reference?
