/qst/ - Quests

>Beast Boy's Barbecue Bash Edition

Hello, good people of /qst/. This quest is, as is probably obvious from the OP pic, based on the Teen Titans animated series. You'll be taking the part of a young man and potential Titan, guiding him through his trials and tribulations.

>Rules

There will be a 15 minute voting period between posts.

Please only choose one option (I will let you know in cases where you can choose more)

An option with two arrows (>>) beside it is one that can be combined with other options

Write-ins of dialogue are allowed, but they won't be put in as-written, just sort of the spirit of the write-in. Additionally, dialogue write-ins require a significant amount of support from other players to be put in, as they can greatly affect the character.

Action write-ins will only be allowed under certain circumstances, which I'll announce. You can suggest an action to me if you want, and I may allow it, but might not depending on various factors.

No dice system in this quest. Victory and defeat will come down to decisions rather than random luck. Learn from experiences, develop strategies, and think outside the box at times (like I said, an action can be suggested to me).

Above all, have fun. I want this to be an enjoyable experience for everyone. Through success, failure, and everything in-between, I hope this will be an adventure worth remembering.

Finished-work leader standing by.

The next few days come and go with no real excitement. Patrols continue as normal, but aside from typical street crime, there isn't much happening in terms of trouble. Most would consider this to be a good thing, but the feeling of this only being the calm before a storm sort of puts a damper on everyone's moods in that regard. Everyone goes through their days somewhat on edge, half-expecting something terrible and cataclysmic to happen at any given moment.

But, tragedy does not strike, and bit by bit, everyone starts to relax, even if only a little. And Beast Boy is in high enough spirits to lift the moods of the rest of the team a little more.

The green Titan has largely taken it upon himself to plan and organize the cook-out that you suggested, having already secured a location and permission to use it. From what you understand, the place Beast Boy's chosen belongs to his old team, the Doom Patrol, who are out of the country at the moment and have given Beast Boy permission to use the property so long as he doesn't leave a mess. Your friend seems psyched about it, so you're confident it's going to be a good location.

He's been running around the tower each day, making sure everyone has swimsuits, taking requests for food and refreshments, securing enough pool noodles for everyone, along with inflatable tubes, rafts, and so on.

As for the guest list, it currently includes only the residents of the tower. Rose was invited, but decided not to come.

Now, it's time for the party to begin. The team gathers on the roof, where Robin brings up the newly refurbished T-Ship, which has been given extra sections for yourself and Troia. You climb into your cockpit, leaning back and making yourself comfortable. The T-Ship is designed to break up into seven smaller ships in combat situations, and as such, your cockpit has its own controls for piloting. At the moment, however, Robin is the one navigating the unified ship, and you are free to do anything you want, even if that means doing nothing.

"Alright, everybody have everything?" Robin asks over the intercom. "I don't want to have to make any trips back here."

>>A. "How long's this flight going to be?"

>>B. "As long as everyone's got swimsuits, we should be fine without other stuff."

>>C. "As long as there's food to cook, we're golden."

"How long's this flight going to take?" you inquire once everyone has assured Robin that they have all that they'll need.

"Not too long," Robin promises. "Just a few minutes."

"And it's gonna be so worth the wait," Beast Boy assures you. "Just wait until you see it. This party's gonna be off the hook!"

"Yeah, definitely off-the-hook," Raven says sarcastically. "Hanging out by the pool together. Woo hoo."

"Just wait, Raven," Beast Boy tells her. "You'll see."

Raven sighs over the intercom.

Satisfied that everyone's prepared, Robin pilots the T-Ship away from the tower, flying high above the city, which you view from your spot further back in the ship. Everything looks so small from up here, cars the size of ants, skyscrapers looking little different from rocks you'd see at your feet. As the ship climbs higher, those vanish entirely under the white, soft blanket of the clouds. Flying above even those, your view is somewhat unchanging for the next few minutes, until Robin begins to descend, quickly bringing the ship toward a massive property that you can only assume is the destination Beast Boy chose. The T-Ship touches down in a massive drive-way, and everyone climbs out, grabbing their things as Beast Boy rushes to the front of the crowd.

"Dudes and dudettes!" Beast Boy starts. "Welcome, one and all, to my childhood home! Stately Dayton Manor!"

It's impressive, to say the least. The building itself is colossal enough, but the lawn must be the size of a golf course. Surrounded by gates on all sides, and with little more in sight beyond the driveway, which stretches down to the road and up toward a massive garage, the place only seems more colossal with its emptiness, with such wide open space.

"Come on," Beast Boy invites, waving his arm as he starts across the lawn. "The pool's this way."

The team follows him around the huge home, coming to the other side and seeing an Olympic-size swimming pool, complete with a water slide and several diving boards. There's umbrellas and lounging chairs scattered in various spots around the massive pool, as well as several tables (many of which have large bowls of snacks and several bottles of various drinks stacked on them), and a really nice grill that seems to make Cyborg go teary-eyed with only a look in its direction.

"Wow, Beast Boy," Robin says with a grin. "Very nice."

"Yeah, man, who knew a slob like you came from such a nice place?" Cyborg teases, getting a stink eye from Beast Boy.

"It is most wonderful, Beast Boy!" Starfire declares in her usual, joyful tone.

"Thank you, thank you!" Beast Boy says, bowing. "You can all head inside and change into your swimsuits, but Negative Man made me promise not that nobody would go into the fridge, so just stay out of the kitchen, alright?"

Beast Boy wasn't kidding, this is a great place for a pool party. And seriously, that pool is awesome. Not to mention the spread he's got prepared, even without Cyborg's cooking. Oh man, all those snacks and drinks, plus Cyburgers, plus the hot dogs you saw him pack, and the ribs, and....oh man, this is going to be amazing.

First thing's first, though. You need to go get changed. Before the party, you went to the mall, and went to a store Starfire recommended that sells vintage clothes. You got a little something that was more in style back in the 70's. It's a big snug....but you like it just fine, and they had it in the same shade of red as your costume, so it worked out pretty well. You stroll inside of the beautiful manor, quickly locating a fancy-looking bathroom and slipping into it. You get changed into your swimsuit, and head back outside.

Cyborg's still out there, wearing a chef's hat and apron, and getting to work on his delicious food. Your stomach growls longingly before the first patty is even placed on the grill.

Robin and Beast Boy are out soon after, with the boy wonder in a plain red bathing suit, and Beast Boy in a basic pair of purple swim trunks. In their current state, you can see just how much all of that physical training pays off for them. Similar to what you noticed when you looked in the mirror the other day, they're in fantastic shape. As much as training sometimes sucks, you've felt grateful to Robin for insisting on it ever since you realized the results it brings you.

"Cannon ball!" Beast Boy shouts, racing toward the pool, only to change into a bird part-way there, fly above the deep end, then change back into his normal form.

Robin heads right for the diving board, making two flips before diving straight down into the water below.

>A. Jump in and swim

>C. Go for the water slide

>D. Go get some snacks and something to drink

That water slide is just beyond your power to resist. You rush over to the slide, which is tall enough that it loops around its stairs and gives you space to walk beneath it, then climb up. There's water running down the slide, and as you sit down, you find it surprisingly warm. It makes sense that they'd keep the water here heated, and you sure aren't complaining. You zip down the slide and into the pool, surfacing to find Beast Boy floating around in the form of an otter, and Robin taking another dive off of the board. As Robin surfaces, Beast Boy turns back to his human form and lets out a whistle.

Following his gaze, you see the girls emerge from the mansion. And, woah, they look good. Starfire's dressed in a purple bikini that honestly seems too small for her. Judging by the look on Robin's face, and the smirk that draws from Starfire, though, you think that was the point. If she was trying to look hot, she succeeded. Raven...you really have some trouble telling if she's wearing a swimsuit, or just her normal outfit without the cloak. Either way, it's quite form-fitting, and shows that Raven has a really nice body. Troia is dressed in a red bikini that's not so distractingly small as Starfire's. She looks fantastic in it just the same.

"Looking good, girls!" Cyborg compliments from the grill.

"No kidding," you agree, letting out a whistle in a similar manner to Beast Boy.

The obvious appreciation from you, Beast Boy, and Cyborg makes Raven blush, Starfire giggle, and Donna smile confidently.

"Seriously, why is everyone so good looking?" you can't help but wonder as the trio comes to join the party.

"Exercise," Robin suggests. "We worked hard to look as good as we do."

"Please," Beast Boy says, rolling his eyes. "It's just genetics. We were born to be beautiful, dudes."

"Come on in!" you shout to the girls. "The water's great!"

Starfire and Donna look at each other, grin, and come running toward the pool. You and the other guys quickly scramble out of the way, making room for the two ladies to dive in side-by-side. Donna surfaces first, and Starfire a moment later, each of them already smiling sunnily.

"You weren't kidding," Donna remarks, kicking around in the water. "This place is great, Beast Boy. It was nice of your old team to let us have our cook-out here."

"It's no big deal," Beast Boy tells her in a somewhat smug tone. "I'm family to them, so they don't mind. Well, as long as we don't touch their stuff. I got into some trouble for messing with one of Mento's helmets once..."

"Well, no need to worry," Donna assures him. "If you can keep from touching anything, the rest of us won't have any trouble."

"Right!" Beast Boy agrees, smiling until he understands what she just said. "Hey!"

Laughing, Donna disappears under the water.

Raven, meanwhile, has taken up residence in a lounge chair under an umbrella, and opened up a book, lying back and reading .

"What do you think of my suit of swimming, Robin?" Starfire asks your leader, who is as red as a tomato.

Needless to say, he likes it.

"First round of Cyburgers'll be done in just a few!" Cyborg announces.

>>
>>2446827
Swimming to the edge of the pool, you pull yourself out and make your way over to the diving board, bouncing off of it and flipping in the air before using your powers to make yourself spin like a drill as you dive in.

You pass by Donna under the water, and surface to find Beast Boy and Robin tossing a ball back and forth while Starfire stands between them, trying to catch it. After the third or so throw, she simply floats up out of the water and catches it, moving to take Beast Boy's spot while he moves to the middle. After a throw from Starfire, Beast Boy turns into a gorilla and catches the next throw from Robin, leaving the masked Titan in the middle. You swim over and join him, and the two of you compete to try and catch the ball as Beast Boy and Starfire toss it back and forth.

Eventually, Robin catches the ball, though he kind of cheats to do so, grabbing your shoulders and using them as leverage to throw himself higher and catch the ball as it sails over your heads, putting Beast Boy back in the middle with you.

>A. Use your powers to stop the ball and catch it

>B. Teleport to catch the ball next time it's thrown

If everyone else can use their powers or underhanded tricks to get the ball, then so can you. Flight's been done, and you aren't going to vault off Beast Boy, but you can definitely teleport and catch that thing easy. When Robin throws it, you concentrate and teleport right into its path, hands held out to catch the ball as it flies toward you.

But, just before it reaches your hands, it's intercepted by a vaguely red blur. You drop back down into the water with a splash, and a smirking Donna lands in Robin's spot. The boy wonder grumbles before coming to the middle with you and Beast Boy.

Even with three of you, catching the ball is a pain from this point on. Actually, it may be because there's three of you now. You're all trying to get the ball first, which means shoving Beast Boy out of the way, dipping into the water and bringing Robin with you when he tries to jump off of you, and the others dragging you down when you try to fly or teleport up.

Teleportation becomes far less useful very quickly, as the two girls use their super speed and strength to toss the ball back and forth in a manner that is difficult to keep up with, or even keep track of at times. Eventually, the three of you in the middle decide to work together in order to get at least one of you into the ender position, but before a plan can actually be formulated, Cyborg calls out that food's ready, and everyone scrambles out of the pool.

The stench of defeat is buried beneath the delicious aroma of Cyborg's cooking. You grab a Cyburger, along with a tofu burger (Beast Boy made Cyborg promise to make some), and take a seat at one of the tables. Everyone pulls up chairs and takes a seat, even Raven, who grabs a Cyburger and some pretzels for herself.

The next few minutes see very little talking, as everyone devours their food. Cyborg finishes in about two bites, and goes to get grilling on the next batch.

"Hey, Cyborg," Robin calls to the mechanical man. "You thinking what I'm thinking?"

Cyborg grins. "Oh, you know I am."

That smug competitive look Robin sometimes gets comes to his face, and he looks over at you. "So, Peter, you up for a Cyburger eating contest?"

>A. "Of course!"

>B. "Sure, why not?"

>No Raven in swimsuit
let me fix that for you.
>>
With Donna and Star joining in the competition, you know that things will be a lot more interesting. You also know that you don't need to push yourself as hard now, as Starfire's certain to be plenty of competition for Cyborg to deal with. You aren't completely sure who will win, but you're almost positive it will be one of those two. Beast Boy's out, being a vegetarian, and Raven, to nobody's surprise, does not volunteer herself to join in. With how that ill-fated pizza eating contest went, you feel like when all's said and done, BB and Rae are the winners simply for not subjecting themselves to the rigors of this admittedly foolish competition.

Still, your competitive nature urges you to at least make an effort, though your better judgement reminds you not to over do it. It would really suck if you spent the rest of Beast Boy's party puking out your guts. The enticing scent of further Cyburgers teases your nostrils, and you feel your mouth beginning to water. Cyborg is a man of many talents, and cooking is high on that list. You feel bad for Beast Boy, missing out on such delicious foods due to his vegetarian diet.

After what feels like an eternity of anticipation, Cyborg approaches the table, carrying stacks of delicious Cyburgers on a platter, the smell surely spreading to the entire massive property, and covering it in the intoxicating aroma. The table sways and strains as the colossal collection of culinary delights is placed upon it.

"Alright, ladies and gentlemen, you know how this game is played, but for those watching at home, let's recap," Cyborg declares. "Five contestants, one hundred burgers, four losers, and one winner! The rules are simple; eat as many burgers as you can without stopping or throwing up. Whoever can eat the most is the champion!"

Cyborg removes his chef's hat and apron, taking his seat at the table. Everyone reaches out and grabs a burger, placing it on their plates and preparing for the games to begin.

"We who are about to die salute you," you mutter before taking the first bite of your Cyburger.

And so, the clash of wills and stomachs begins, with all competitors consuming the colossal quantity of cuisine, the first round of burgers gone in under a minute, and everyone charging right along onto the next portion. While you, Robin, and Donna eat pretty quickly, the rate at which Cyborg and Starfire consume is frankly intimidating, the two of them seeming to suck the food down like vacuum cleaners. It's perfectly clear almost at once that you don't have a prayer of defeating either of them, and you're pretty sure Robin, at least, has reached the same conclusion.

But, can you beat him? Can you beat Donna? Time to find out.

Beast Boy watches, completely rapt, while Raven just sort of sits where she is with a bored look on her face as the competition continues. Each burger you consume brings you closer to either glorious victory, or wretched defeat. The others give no sign of slowing down, and you push on, hoping to outlast Robin and Donna, at least.

But, it's not to be. All too soon, you feel your stomach begin to protest the endless stream of Cyburger you are allowing to flow into it. Ignoring it for a bit and pushing on, you quickly find yourself approaching the point of no return, and know that you have precious little time to stop before you come to regret it later.

With a weary sigh, you admit defeat, pushing back your plate and slumping in your seat. The first one to surrender, you watch as the others race on. You're pretty sure at this point that neither Donna or Robin could possibly catch up with Cyborg or Starfire, but they refuse to quit anyway. They bravely push on, until Robin begins to falter. He tries his best, but finally falls, leaving only three competitors in the race.

The three continue to eat the mountain of Cyburgers, but that number soon drops to two, as Donna throws in the towel after a few more burgers, leaving only Cyborg and Starfire to compete for the glory of victory. Bit by bit, the burgers vanish, until only three remain.

Cyborg weakly reaches for one, but Starfire eagerly grabs the other two, throwing them into the air and opening her mouth to swallow them whole. Cyborg covers his mouth, drops his burger, and turns away from the table as Starfire lets out a loud belch.

"Looks like we have a winner," Robin observes as Starfire picks up the very last burger and gobbles it up.

"Cyborg, buddy, you okay?" you ask your friend, whose human portion of his face is turning greener than Beast Boy.

He answers with a muffled "Mmhmm!", while looking like he's about to add another shade of green to the beautiful lawn. Nothing to do but hope that passes, and that his stomach settles quickly. Not everyone can have Starfire's invincible stomach, after all.

"Okay, obviously none of us can compete with Cyborg and Starfire in eating," you point out to everybody. "We should have some other kind of contest."

"Like what?" Robin asks.

"Karaoke?" you suggest.

Starfire, and to a lesser extent, Beast Boy, look fine with this idea, though the others look unsure (you can't really tell in Cyborg's case, since he still just looks like he's trying desperately not to hurl).

"Uh...singing?" Robin asks, actually sounding kind of nervous.

"Can you even sing?" Raven asks, raising an eyebrow.

Good question, actually. You have no idea. No memories from your past life have surfaced involving that, and you've never really made an effort to try singing since becoming Peter. You might be a good singer, or you might totally suck at it.

"Only one way to find out," you tell her before looking at Cyborg. "Though, on second thought, maybe we'd better wait on competitions until Cyborg's insides stop trying to get outside."

"Honestly, I'm not big on singing," Robin tells you from his seat. "So I'll sit this karaoke contest out."

"Same here," Raven declares.

Cyborg nods in agreement as he continues his effort to keep from vomiting. That leaves you, Beast Boy, Starfire, and apparently Donna. She hasn't declined, at least, though you suppose she might just be totally disinterested and not have said anything for that reason. Hard to say.

"Beast Boy, is there a karaoke machine here anywhere?" you ask.

"I'll go inside and check," he tells you, making his way to the manor and disappearing inside.

In the minutes that Beast Boy's gone, Cyborg's stomach seems to calm, though he still doesn't volunteer for the karaoke contest. Maybe he's still not feeling well, or he's just not feeling like singing, same as Robin and Raven.

Beast Boy finally emerges from the manor, his disappointed expression telling you that he didn't find what he was looking for. Well, that kind of sucks.

"Sorry, dudes," he tells everyone. "It looks like they got rid of the old machine."

"That is disheartening," Starfire comments.

"It's alright," Robin assures her. "We'll find something else to do."

Cyborg's face suddenly lights up, and not a sickly shade of green this time. He looks to Beast Boy, who seems to pick up on whatever he's thinking. The two break for the pool, shouting for everyone to join them as they leap in.

Shrugging, Robin follows after them, with Starfire right behind him. You and Troia follow right after them, and Raven slowly strolls behind the group. You leap into the pool, looking to Beast Boy and Cyborg and waiting to see what they have to say.

Cyborg vanishes beneath the water, while Beast Boy grins at everyone.

"Dudes, it's time for a competition made for pool parties!" he declares before suddenly rising above the water on Cyborg's shoulders.

"Chicken fight!" Cyborg shouts with a grin.

Starfire and Donna look at them in confusion, with Starfire being the one to vocally ask something.

"We are going to have chickens do battle?" she questions, sounding like she doesn't see anything particularly fun in that.

"No, nothing like that," Robin tells her with a chuckle. "A chicken fight is a pool game played in teams of two. One person sits on the other's shoulders, and tries to knock the other teams over."

"Oh, that sounds fun," Donna tells him.

"I am on your team then, Robin?" Starfire guesses.

"That's what I was hoping," he answers.

A few moments later, Starfire is sitting on Robin's shoulders, and you suddenly find yourself being lifted out of the water, looking down to find that you're sitting on the shoulders of Troia.

Taking a quick moment to look and make sure Raven doesn't look like she particularly wants to join in (she doesn't), you look back down at Donna.

"Nah, this is good," you tell her.

And so, the great chicken fight begins, with Cyborg, Donna, and Robin wading through the water toward each-other as those of you up top prepare for battle. Beast Boy strikes first, shoving at you but failing to do much as you grab his arm and pull him toward you, attempting to make him fall forward into the water. With Cyborg's help, he manages to keep steady, though that does not last long, as Starfire shoves at both of you, one hand pushing each of you, and coming worryingly close to knocking you over.

You feel Donna's grip on your legs tighten to keep you on her shoulders, and see Cyborg similarly tightening his hold on Beast Boy. Nobody's going down that easily. But now, both you and Beast Boy have a new target as Donna and Cyborg bring you back in for more. The two of you shove at Starfire, and while she's more than strong enough to resist that, with Robin as her base, you manage to make some progress, staggering him back a bit. When he gets back to balance, though, Starfire gives another push, this time with both hands pushing against your chest and knocking you backward. It seems certain that you're about to lose, but Donna manages to stop you just before you would have hit the water, and lift you back up.

Something about her movement, though...if you didn't know any better, you'd say she was using her powers. Then again, you're pretty sure that Starfire's using at least some of her super strength, and both Cyborg and Donna were probably using a little of theirs to keep you and Beast Boy from falling before.

Cyborg rushes Robin and Starfire, and Beast Boy shoves from the side, this time managing to knock Robin completely off-balance. Starfire gasps just before she and Robin disappear beneath the surface.

"Nice job," you compliment your friend before getting back into your competitive spirit. "One down, one to go."

Robin and Starfire pop up from underwater, watching as you and Donna square up against Beast Boy and Cyborg. The deciding struggle for supremacy is about to begin, and at this point, it's anybody's game. Neither you or Beast Boy have any sort of super strength, at least not naturally. He'd have to transform into a strong animal, and you'd need to use your telekinesis. But, maybe that sort of thing could make this more fun.

"What's the etiquette, BB?" you ask your friend. "Powers or no powers?"

Beast Boy looks down at Cyborg, who gives a confident grin up at the green guy. Beast Boy looks at you with a toothy smile.

"Powers all the way!" he tells you.

"Oh man, this is going to be something to see," Robin remarks, swimming back to give you and your opponents some space.

Starfire's right with him, and even Raven looks mildly interested as she moves over to join them.

"Bring it, dude!" Beast Boy challenges, punching his left palm as Cyborg starts to advance.

"Sorry guys, but y'all are going down," Cyborg declares as if it's already decided. "No hard feelings."

"Don't set yourself up for disappointment like that, Cyborg," Donna counters as she starts toward him. "He who enters battle certain of his victory has already lost."

Beast Boy shifts shape on Cyborg's shoulders, taking the form of a massive green gorilla. He beats his chest and roars loudly, using his newly elongated arms to shove at you before you get close enough to attempt the same on him. You lean back enough to keep him from reaching you right away, using your powers of flight to keep yourself from falling off of Donna. In that position, you put up a barrier, and sit back up. Beast Boy attempts another shove, and you feel a slightly strain as his massive hand strikes your shield. His strength right now is far above yours, which could mean trouble for your barriers. But, you've dealt with this sort of thing before. This will be a test of your will, and you don't plan on losing.

Beast Boy shoves again, with more force this time as he tries to break through your barrier. Again, you feel a strain, but you power through, and your barrier holds as Donna continues her advance. You're still too far to reach him with your arms, but your mind has a much greater range, and you give him a solid shove with your mind. It doesn't carry nearly as much force as you'd planned, though, and does pretty much nothing to the big gorilla on Cyborg's shoulders. He still looks down at his chest, so he obviously felt something, but that's all.

Roaring, he strikes at your barrier again, which still holds strong. So far, the two of you are at a virtual stalemate, but you know he can maintain his apish strength far longer than you can keep this barrier going.

>Continued
>>
>>2451332
>Continued

If this is allowed to become a war of attrition, you're going to lose, no question. Cyborg's not about to get fatigued holding something as heavy as a gorilla, and Beast Boy suffers no notable repercussions from maintaining that animal form. You'll have to adopt a new strategy for this.

Luckily, you have a few to choose from.

>A. Drop the barrier and put all of your focus into a psychic push.

>B. Use your powers to restrain Beast Boy, and try to knock the pair down with Donna's help

>C. Option B, but restraining Cyborg

"Donna, when I say push, push!" you instruct your partner as Beast Boy continues to hammer against your shield.

"Got it," she responds, quickly closing in on the metal man in question.

This is going to be hard. If you drop this barrier for more than a second, Beast Boy's going to knock you right over. But, if you keep it up, the strain...no, you can deal with that as long as you're quick. Besides, it's good practice to do something like this in a scenario like this one.

Focusing on Cyborg while struggling to maintain your shield, you psychically restrain the metal man, shouting for Donna to push at the same moment before he has a chance to realize what you've done and fight it. Donna shoves Cyborg with all her might, and both he and Beast Boy are sent tumbling into the water.

"Well done!" Starfire declares, clapping happily. "That was most entertaining!"

"Nice job, you two," Robin compliments just as Beast Boy and Cyborg rise from beneath the water.

Beast Boy looks at you, the expression on his face something like that of a super villain in a bad Saturday morning cartoon.

"You may have won the chicken fight, but the war is far from over!" he declares. "This will not be the last competition we have today! For you see, I have prepared for a conflict that will chill you to the bone!"

He does his best attempt at an evil laugh, then takes the form of a hawk and flies far into the air, leaving the rest of you to wonder what that was about.

Oh man, I'm gonna have to think about this one.
>>
>>2452229
That one's tough but I think the answer is that Peter doesn't have a singular best friend in the Titans yet. He's on good terms with everyone and he has different Dynamics with each. The four most noteworthy are: Cyborg (one true patrol), Starfire (They're able to communicate with each other without the sort of social bullshit most people acquire growing up in our culture), Raven (Raven is Pete's most significant mentor and benefactor. They've established a strong bond of trust, even if they don't hang out a ton), and Donna (playing big siblings to Rose helped establish a bond, and Donna's competitiveness and playfulness make her a good friend).
>>
>>2452354
Totally accurate assessment. I voted Starfire anyway because I think that's the strongest bond right now and also because i like the idea of Peter having feelings for starfire that he doesn't want to act on, i think that'd be a compelling narrative point

Beast Boy is a bit rowdier and fun.
Cyborg is also fun but a bit more mature.
I think Pete would have a good time with both, and they're all mutually glad to have more people to just do dumb shit with.

Starfire is chill, kind and funny. Pete can have a good time with her, sure, but mostly I think she's safe and comforting. Like a field of Positivity.

Raven is a bit more distant, but she's actually someone Pete can (and did) learn a lot from, and they can have a good time - just different from how it's usually with the others. Playing chess with her was certainly interesting for him.

Donna is like our Garrus. She can be driven and level headed, she can be competitive and fun, and she's also kind of endearing without being over-excited or anything.

Rose is strong, but she's also fragile. So we can count on her help when the going gets tough, of course, but I think the main part is the "fragile" thing. She's vulnerable, and everyone in the titans is nice and tries to help her overcome that. Even if sometimes it can end up becoming more of a "shielding" that does more damage long term - e.g not telling about Sladey.

Robin is the leader. He does join in on the fun, usually with the group, but I think his major relationship point is that Pete has shown a tendency to trust him, and trust him to take criticism as well. I think there's an analogy to be made here but I can't place it. And it makes sense to treat him this way, he's the leader for a reason.

These are my thoughts, kinda?

>>2452884
Mass Effect Andromeda was, in my opinion, actually pretty good. It was a victim of being rushed to publish, and too much hype to live up to. Drack was the best companion/dad.
>>
>>2452907
I think it had some bad design / plot choices, sloppy and rushed development. Pretty sure the team had less experienced people than the older ones. I think it had some fun to it, so I don't think it was bad, but it definitely didn't build any trust. And it flopped, leading to a cancellation of any future DLC, so I'd say that's terrible news for the franchise.
>>

Yeah, there are definitely plenty of legitimate criticisms to be leveled at the game.

Cool.

Also, I suppose this is a spoiler question, so I don't actually expect an answer but Are any of the characters actually attracted (physically or romantically) to Peter? That would, realistically, be a prerequisite for a relationship, else its moderately creepy in a 'the person you like will like you back because you're the protagonist' sort of thing. I have suspicions, but I'm curious.
>>
>>2454593
You know how Peter commented that pretty much everyone on the team is attractive? That's a common sentiment.
>>
>>2454594
Heh.
Yeah, you've mentioned that Peter is fairly attractive, and your initial description of him matches.

Incidentally, I back someone on patreon who owes me a few pics. I'll see about getting one of Peter. No promises on the timeline though.

>>
>>2458773
Hey MoG, just remembered something:

With the jump from the day from hell to the pool party, Pete didn't get a chance to give a full debrief to the team on-screen, most importantly, about his Mother's visit. We did have one opportunity to bring it up, but at the time it felt that recovery after the Titans got thrashed by Bane was more pressing (and then Psimon happened). I just want to make sure Pete had the opportunity to let everyone (particularly Robin) know, and that it won't be treated as keeping secrets from the team.
>>
>>2458851
If you explain that things got so nuts, they'll understand
>>
>>2458902
Oh, it's not that part, it's the fact we time skipped forward over several days so it's either we already briefed them during that period or we sat on our hands until now, several days later which feels weird.

>>
>>2459054
>>2459113
Not that there are any weak people on the team, but thinking about it, I think its not that straight forward.

Donna, Starfire and Cyborg are all physically strong (and are confident in who they are), but that's not really the thing that defines Peter's relationship to each.

With Cyborg, its not about strength at all, its about how their personalities gel. Cyborg's relationship with Beastboy is about high octane silliness, goofing around, and having fun. Peter and Cyborg however are much more relaxed. Interestingly they both have highly competitive sides, but it doesn't manifest in their interactions, instead its just peers on a similar wavelength.

Peter's relationship with Starfire is also not about strength. Its about Starfire being able to be open her heart to others without fear or self consciousness. Its easy to be cowed by love like that, but Peter has always welcomed it with open arms and no reservations, and returning the gesture by being open and honest with her, even when its difficult (their talk after the Katarou fight stands out). Based on the meta-game >check social links Starfire treasures our reciprocation of her unvarnished feelings, something the other Titans have struggled with, and to a degree still struggle with. I want more solo scenes with her because I think its a beautiful friendship.

In Donna's case, strength plays a role. They're both competitive and they're on the same wavelength, driven but good natured. They want to win, but winning isn't about dominating the other person*, its about testing themselves. That said, the foundation of their relationship isn't strength, its mutual respect. My sense was that while Donna was impressed by the raw power Peter brought to bear against Katarou, and by the versatility of his powerset, she was skeptical of Peter because of his stamina issues. Those issues are still around of course, but I feel like Peter won her over with how they reached out to Rose. The other Titans were trying to protect Rose from herself, but Peter chose to trust Rose, knowing that she would struggle, but being there to support her when she needed it. Its a harder path, but also one that shows Rose the most respect, and Peter's respectfulness of Rose I think engendered respect in Donna too.

*Peter does have intrusive thoughts about wanting to dominate and degrade others, something dark from either Sam or Blood. Given that they are *intrusive* thoughts rather than his motivations, I stand by this statement.
>>
>>2459225
Solid assessment. Though I do think we should spend some more time with Cy once we sort our shit out. The only real substantial scene we've had with him was when we went on patrol.
>>
>>2459204
>>2459213
Peter definitely thinks of Beast Boy as a good dude, but I feel like they haven't quite figured out exactly where they stand relative to each other. They had a moment where Beast Boy opened up about Terra, and Peter was a good listener, both genuinely interested in what he had to say, and respectful of his feelings and boundaries. But that was only one moment. Everything else is pretty much Beast Boy's relationship with everyone: He's the fun goofball who's a great video game and movie watching buddy. Which is great, but I don't know if that's enough for Best Friend material.

That it works for Beast Boy and Cyborg tells me that one of two things is going on for them: 1. Their relationship is more than just the silly stuff we see on screen, and/or 2. That sort of light, fun-filled friendship is an important tonic for Cyborg. Cyborg doesn't angst much, but he's got anger and sorrow in him he doesn't express much. I think Beast Boy's friendship helps him chase away those darker feelings and Cyborg loves him for it.

That dynamic isn't enough to build a best friendship with Peter. Its fun, sure, but Peter has a more open (and health) approach to his feelings than Cyborg, so that release valve isn't as vital or valuable. Peter is better suited to playing the release valve for Beast Boy. (And, in retrospect, Peter and Cyborg's easy, relaxed friendship may be a release valve for Cyborg already. Even if he doesn't talk much about his feelings, that sort of no pressure acceptance is good for the soul).

And since now I'm four Titans in, I might as well talk about Robin and Raven.

Robin is tough. Peter only really socializes with Robin in group scenarios. What they do have though, is a good professional relationship, which, like Peter's relationship with Donna, has its basis in respect. While Robin was (rightly) upset about Peter letting Linus in the tower and talking to Slade, I'd like to point out that he softened his punishment after Peter gave a full and honest accounting of his actions, while also demonstrating that his actions weren't just recklessness, but calculated risks, which bore some valuable intelligence. Despite MoG presenting us choices to make unilateral declarations, to gainsay Robin, or to go behind his back, Peter is instead respectful of Robin's role as leader, even when Peter disagrees with him (for instance, regarding keeping secrets from Rose), and to his credit, Robin listens to Peter's questions, takes his advice seriously, and even changes his mind on Peter's recommendations. I don't know if they'll ever become really close friends, but theirs can be the sort of professional friendship that makes a team truly formidable.

Raven incoming in a bit.

>>2459263
Thanks, and yes, I look forward to more solo scenes with everyone. Particularly in quiet night patrol settings, since I think its a great device for those sorts of interactions.
>>
>>2459293
See I thought beast boy was a solid contender for that exact reason. He's a rock. He's that point of stability no matter what going on. He opened up to Peter even though it hurt to let him know he's not alone.

I am very interested on your thoughts on Raven because she's still a tough nut to crack but I think we've made good strides with that.
>>
Peter and Raven have a hard to define friendship. As I mentioned before, Raven has been Peter's most significant mentor and benefactor. The relationship was lopsided at first, with Peter in many ways overdependent on her help and Raven uncomfortable with his feelings of indebtedness to her. That part of their relationship has fortunately evened out as Peter has learned to stand on his own two feet, and has even been able to return some of the favor (not that Peter is deliberately trying to even the score).

Raven, I think, is a bit taken aback by how much trust Peter puts in her. I think she was uncomfortable with it at first, when it came wrapped up in that sense of indebtedness, but now I suspect his trust means a lot to her. Peter knows her story, and her background, at least enough to know the danger she poses, and here he is, putting his life (and mind) in her hands without hesitation. It might seem reckless, but by this point she knows better. He just trusts genuinely trusts her that much. She returns his trust in subtle ways. She speaks to him with seemingly total sincerity, dropping her mask of emotional control (and sarcasm), smiling or showing worry as appropriate. Setting aside the lifetime of being taught emotional control, these are intentional acts of making yourself vulnerable, and to the best of my recollection, not only has Peter never betrayed her trust, he's never even made so much as a friendly joke about it.

The reason their friendship is hard to define is because Raven hasn't really been forthcoming about what she wants their friendship to be. Peter likes spending time with each of the Titans, but Raven doesn't give him much to go on. They've played some chess, he's gifted her a scary movie and a book on urban legends (which was itself a guess rather than actual intimate knowledge of her likes and dislikes), but that's pretty much it. They don't really hang out much.

But Peter does his best, and instead shows his feelings of friendship for Raven with little gestures. Bringing food to her room after she helped him survive Blood's first mental attack, giving her a physical anchor when she panicked over Trigon's possible return by holding her hand and undertaking the breathing exercises she taught him, even just wordlessly checking on her during Chicken so that she doesn't feel called out for not participating, but also making sure she's not excluded. They're all ways he shows he cares about and respects her and her feelings. So, to Peter's credit, he does a pretty good job, but my sense of his character is that he prefers it when people are clear and verbal about what they want and how the feel.

>2459332
That's what I'm getting at. Peter doesn't need a rock, he IS a rock (which is a fun unintended bible reference). Not to say that Peter doesn't need a kindly ear from time to time, just not to the extent as, say, Cyborg or Raven.
>>
tl;dr Friendship Summary
Beast Boy: built on having fun together
Cyborg: built on compatible personalities that makes things easy and casual
Donna: built on respect and friendly competition
Raven: built on trust and mutual care
Robin: built on trust and respect
Starfire: built on open communication and love
Silkie: built on headpats and food
>>
>>2459409
While the thoughts on Raven are spot on I'm still going to have to disagree on bb. At least starting out Pete definitely needed some stability while dealing with his new powers and new life. He's also always had Pete's back.

I don't think Pete's a rock either. He's too mercurial, not that it's a bad thing. People can rely on him to be down for whatever because he's always willing to try something new.

Ugh it's closing in on 4am where I'm at so this probably isn't coming across how I'd like.
>>
>>2459447
I think I understand.

When I say Peter is a rock I mean that, where he is currently, he's got a good grip on his personal issues, even when they're messy (see Marissa and Linus). He's not hurting, and he's in a position to comfort others or just be a good friend.

Early on he DID need stability, and he has since found his feet, now he's in a position to return the favor. I don't know if I think of Peter as mercurial. He's flexible, sure, but not fickle or unpredictable.
>>
>>2459807
>>2459447
Pete hasn't shown to be flip flopping at all. He seems to be ecletic, and open, even accepting (e.g. how he acts towards ex-villains, friends having issues), despite having certain strong ideals. I'd say he's clever, but not impulsive.

I didn't mean he flip flops. Flexible works better I think. I can't find the right words for what I'm trying to convert so forgive me but it's like you can count on finding beast boy in front of the TV playing games or watching a movie because he's stable but it might be hard finding where Pete would be on any given day because aside from training he's always doing something different (aside from training).

>we love the one on one interactions with the team and look forward to more.
This is true. I think the only real reason Peter doesn't seem to have as much chemistry with Robin as he does with the rest of the team is simply because they haven't had a real 1-on-1 scene to be bros yet. But I also enjoy getting to see the rest of the team interact with each other too. As an example, I don't think I would have enjoyed the arcade as much if it had been just Donna or just Rose, and I don't think the current pool party would be as much fun without everybody. I hope we continue to get a mixture of scenes with the whole team, one-on-ones, and also smaller groups too.

I'd like to see more of the team members asking us to do stuff. So far the only thing anyone really came to us for is competitions or that one game of stank ball we turned down unless I'm misremembering. Otherwise it feels like we always initiate or are interrupting them.

Also an excellent point. Particularly in the case of everyone who isn't Beastboy and Cyborg, who do that naturally.
>>
I seem to have come down with a fever, so we're postponing again, probably running on Tuesday. Sorry.

In the meantime, for discussion, what are some things you'd like to see/like to see more of? I read enough of your comments to know that more one-on-one time with different team-mates is a big thing, but anything else?
>>
>>2462298
Hey MoG, hope you feel better.

Do you mean specific things (Lady Shiva mentors KC because his fighting style is so weird and full of potential) or more general things (rematches against villains we've previously defeated to showcase our growth as a hero)?

But yes, those two things at least.
>>

I'd like to see if Peter can use willpower to strengthen not just his hold or barrier but also psychic strikes and flight speed too.

With Peter getting along so well with Starfire and also patching things up with his own sister, I'm starting to get interested in seeing what will happen if Blackfire shows up.
>>
I'll second >>2462494 regarding using willpower to reinforce his other powers.

As for his power kit, I think its almost perfect. The only things I'd want to add would be a sensory power (empathy), and the ability to heal (though I'd prefer it not be practical to do mid-combat).

I also like the idea of checking in with Mr. Moth as per >>2462316. Perhaps he'd be willing share his silk gun tech? It'd be a fantastic alternate fire mode for our blaster.

Another idea mentioned in a previous thread was the idea of befriending Control Freak, who would go from being a mostly-ineffective awkward comedy villain to being a mostly-ineffective awkward comedy friend/occasional nuisance.

I know you mentioned getting the message, regarding one-on-one scenes, but I'd like to reaffirm that I love night patrol as a vehicle for it.

And finally, again affirming a previous comment about the other Titans being more proactive regarding their relationships with Peter.

MoG, since Star isn't able to compete in the Peter-bowl (though I'd still be down to try a storyline where Peter deals with having inconvenient romantic feelings for her) I'd like to see Peter get a chance to play relationship coach for Robin and/or Starfire. While they're cute, I'm sure that they could use some occasional advice. Robin alone still has some control and emotional constipation issues, even if it isn't as bad as it was before, and of course an outside perspective can't hurt in these rare circus-performer-turned-billionaire-adoptee-crimefighter/literal-space-princess relationships.

Also-also I hope Marissa and Simon aren't written out until whatever role they play against Blood. Cool. Btw is there a Canon reason that Tamaranians are looked down on in the TT universe (or DC at large)?
>>
>>2466523
They're seen as weak was the explanation given in the show. Considering how they seem to get crushed by invaders (even invaders that aren't even there, in the case of "Betrothed"), I'm guessing the stereotype exists for a reason
>>
>>2466539
I actually have a theory (headcanon really since there is no evidence), that many generations ago Tamaranians were basically vikings, using their superior strength, starbolts, and ability to fly through space to terrorize pre-space flight civilizations with no concept of extraplanetary life.

The Tamaranians were only interested in loot and tribute, not in conquest, and those neighboring civilizations eventually closed the gap in strength through technology, which the Tamaranians had previously no need to pursue. Eventually, the Tamaranians were beaten back and withdrew into themselves, and were only rediscovered generations later when the civilizations they previously preyed upon achieved ftl travel. What they found was a culture that had been chastened by it's defeats and still centuries behind in technology. Even though Tamaranians are individually terrifying to most species, they're no match against an organized space fareing military.

They're Troq, nothing, because that is what they've become. They learned nothing, built nothing, accomplished nothing. Rightfully relegated to the dustbin of history in the minds of those they used to terrorize.

That said, man those crazy Tamaranians were absolutely masters of astrogation. Can you imagine being able to raid the same planet over and over again when, you know, all that space stuff is constantly moving?
>>
>>2466649
I really like this theory.
>>
>>2466870
Thanks anon.
Again, more a not-explicitly-contradicted idea than anything else, but it fits the data, and that's what I like doing best.
