The Raiders - Part 48

Tzanzi is healed.

Though the miracle of psychic sciences and disciplines, a desperate bid to interest you in immortality in exchange for the loss of your abilities and powers (though neither personality nor knowledge), you have garnered a bargain through which your friend has been healed of the grievous injuries dealt her by the enemy. While the offer of conditional immortality has not been rescinded, the opportunity to accept it has passed, at least for now. You can't say that you're truly sorry for that.

Well, you could, but it would be a lie. You are enjoying this life far too much to discard it so casually, and there are aspects of it that you value far too highly to cast aside. Though it was of interest that she suggested you would not be easily separated from Siobhan; your connection to the True Silver Sword is tied to the Elder Power, and she said she could not strip that from you either. While it begs the question 'what could', it is an aspect of the power that you were not aware of previously.

Outside the temple the elan representative created to entice you within – and presumably transform you – Tzanzi, Yzia and yourself stand in the morning light. Well, embrace, really, but that's just a pleasant fact. The dragon that had joined Skattish is gone, driven away by her own fears and worries, more than any threat you posed. Which was significant, admittedly. It is one of your greatest talents, being a threat. For a bookish scholar you manage to be adequately threatening most of the time. It is amazing what an Elder Power backed Greater Dispelling of Magic with the right timing can accomplish.

Now your task is complete, as is your friend and occasional lover Tzanzi. As much as you are looking forward to enjoying her company both physical and mental, you have other tasks and projects to complete. Also, you are on the doorstep of a fantastically powerful psychic who can manipulate the Elder Power and the physical substance of Time; more than duty or sex, this motivates you to leave. But where to? Now that's an interesting question....

[] You have been offered a significant fortune to defeat a powerful githzerai ascetic. Tzanzi was his second choice....
[] With the dust of illusion, you could scout the human or elven defenses with a measure of impunity....
[] To the lair and your playthings....er, playmates, and the slaves they own. You're probably joking. About the playthings, anyways.
[] While you may be out of Yashi's Telepathy range, Siobhan and Fehr Vaed are not bound by such paltry limitations.
[] Perhaps raze a city of township or city elsewhere, cause a ruckus and attract attention to another place. Perhaps some pillage and rape.
[] Write in?
Siobhan likes the idea of sex with Tzanzi and Yzia. She's perfectly happy watching!

Akko, Akatmosoko, like all her kind, has a measure of psychic ability. She will simply use most of these powers without prompting, instinctively, when appropriate. Her spells are another matter.
>She is a high ranking Gish, and may give orders to low ranking Knights; mid-ranked Warriors; high ranking Spellcasters, Skulkers, and Murderers; and any Gish lower ranked than herself.
>True Silver Sword: Siobhan
Siobhan offers her opinions and advice on matters when a vote is called for, drawing on Akko's potent intellect and voicing subconscious thoughts for her to consider.

Give a quick check to see how things are, assuming that there isn't some kind of disaster,

>Ask Tzanzi how she wants to best take her restored self for a test drive
I feel like we probably need a bit more prep time before fighting that Githzerai, even if we are double-teaming her, but anything goes beyond that.

Assuming she doesn't have a preference, I kind of feel like
>[] With the dust of illusion, you could scout the human or elven defenses with a measure of impunity....
Could be good, though I kind of forget how much of a free reign we're "supposed" to have on a Raid vs reporting to Dunzamn.
>>
>>2444514
As a Leader, as logn as you are acting in accordance with the ideal of the raid (more resources, more slaves, more wealth) there is very little you can do that would be 'wrong', per se. Making things more difficult for the general population of raiders, or alerting the illithids to your presence, or creating heightened defenses for the raiders next targets would be no-nos.

[X] Write in? How would Tzanzi wish to test her returned faculties and capabilities?

You look over the countryside, taking in the strange beauty and terrifying liveliness of the material world. The growth, the movement, the sheer volume of noise – as in amount, rather than level – as well as the movement of wind and water, be it felt or visible. You run your fingers along Tzanzi's armored back, while you trace sigils and suggestive runes along the supply hide that Yzia currently sports. “Bide a moment,” you ask pf them, inspiring curious looks.

Siobhan responds instantly to your unvoiced desire, and it is not long at all before she has an answer. While Yashi is unable to penetrate the mind or will of the traitor, she was able to study the upper most levels of the tower where the creature has taken the princess to be protected. Once she became familiar with the princess more things became clear to her. Very promising. The githzerai has severely limited the princess' contact with others, and she chafes. Certain of the human rabble attempt to associate with the princess, but are threatened or even assaulted by the githzerai. This leads Yashi to believe their defenses against the dragons are for the benefit of the githzerai, and only incidentally an aid to the city itself.

You grin viciously, baring your fangs in hateful pleasure. This adept, this ascetic, she is very good. But not unpredictable. The princess could easily be taken without confronting the githzerai if she could be approached, but such an act is impossible as things stand – there are too many of the human rabble who are truly puissant, compared to the soldiers and defenders of the city. You make an inquiry, and are gratified to receive a prompt, but disheartening reply. This creature sleeps little, eats and drinks very little, and seems to have visions in her sleep that prompt her to guide the defenses of the city where her charge is concerned. A surprise attack would be difficult, but not impossible, especially if lead by yourself or Tzanzi as she was before.
>>
“Tzanzi,” you murmur softly, as Yzia nuzzles and toys with the murderer's lopsided hair. She lets you feel her attention, though she is returning Yzia's affections eagerly. “In what manner would you wish to explore your new-found self and body?” It is a difficult matter to avoid giving her more information than you want her to have for an unbiased option. It was once unnecessary.

“With close friends, or my cadre if not, drinking and eating without the scars that marred so many small parts of my life,” she replies almost immediately. “But if there is else you wish to perform, my Leader....” Yzia whispers to her mentally, and while you cannot overheard, you can sense Tzanzi's amusement and arousal.

So, a surprise attack carried out by the three of you now, would most likely succeed at surprising the githzerai. The Rune you bear, Tzanzi's mind-blindness and subsequent immunity to Scrying, and Yzia's mask-enabled nonexistence and Misdirection. This doesn't make the choice much easier of course....but the choices are much more interesting.

[] A surprise attack is an idea of worth. Yzia is quite distracting. As is a burning city.
[] You can indulge Tzanzi in this – you certainly won't hold it against her!
[] Camp somewhere nearby and rest. And don't rest too. You have time.
[] Ask Yzia if she would mind using another [I]Lesser Wish to see if you can find out what Yashi did not.
[] See what Yzia might want to do – your companion should have a say, she did bring you here.
Siobhan is vastly amused at your reactions....

Would our old mask that we gave to Tzanzi still have the same nondetection charms we placed on it? Though I do understand why she might not want to wear it.

>[X] A surprise attack is an idea of worth. Yzia is quite distracting. As is a burning city.
Fuck it. We do play carefully a lot.
>>
>>2444601
I guess I'm just worried that due to the Githzerai having a different attitude towards exceptionalism than Githyanki, there's a chance she's significantly stronger than both us and Tzanzi combined, potentially enough to kill Tzanzi right after healing her, which would just really suck, especially since I don't know how viable it is to shake down a cleric for resurrection spells.
>>
>>2444589
It would.
>>
>>2444614
Maybe at least suggest she wear it then.

Also hopefully we'll at least briefly consult with Yzia and Tzanzi first.

Assuming Yzia lives, Limited Wish can raise the dead.

[X] A surprise attack is an idea of worth. Yzia is quite distracting. As is a burning city.

“I am of a mind to lay waste to a section of city and assault a incredibly capable traitor with only myself and Tzanzi, while allowing Yzia to distract the militia and those mercenaries the humans believe capable of protecting their own,” you mention mildly.

Tzanzi purposefully radiates her surprise, while Yzia is intrigued by this foolhardy and clearly dangerous idea. “The ascetic has divination skills that are quite potent, but useless against myself, Yzia, and were once useless against Tzanzi.” Yzia lays her hands on Tzanzi's shoulder and you feel the spell she casts silently over the Murderer – Nondetection. “Or should I say are still useless against Tzanzi at this time? Regardless, she would be unable to predict an assault through her mysticism.”

“A single dragon would alert her to an attempt on the princess – it is what I would presume, should a singular dragon assault the city I was in without others of its ilk,” Tzanzi points out with polite finality.

“I would not be adverse to providing such a distraction, save that they have techniques meant to counter dragons. Provided by the githzerai, if I recall your explanation correctly,” agrees Yzia. Yet neither of them is entirely adverse to the idea. These are simply obstacles to be overcome, ones that could prove fatal if underestimated.

“There is the Dust of Illusion, you point out, which makes Yzia thoughtful. “It is not precisely of use against the traitor but it will be very useful as a way to sneak Yzia into the city beneath their anti-dragon equipment, which they would very distressed to have destroyed. The mercenaries would undoubtedly be called upon as well.” You consider a moment. “The githzerai does not allow the princess much freedom, and what freedom she has is allowed to the mercenaries to be spoken to from a distance, with the githzerai watching. The Dust would allow us an opportunity to close. Her aportation would be a potential issue....but I could craft a Conjuration Foil to make her use of that ability less reliable, and distinctly painful.”
>>
Tzanzi comes up behind you and wraps her arms about your shoulders, nibbling on your ear. There is also the fact that the only one you would have to concern yourself is me. The others of your cadre would be safely away. You concede that point. It would be terribly annoying for either one of us to die before we consummate the celebration of my wholeness.

You favor her with a wicked laugh. And my detractors say that I am the one who is oversexed. you lean back into her, wrapping your arms over hers. Yzia stalks around you both, drinking in the sight, before sliding into an embrace with you and kissing Tzanzi over your shoulder, her tail winding it's way up your leg. It is a unique and exciting opportunity....

It could not hurt to see if we could make an approach and see how good their defenses truly are.... your companion murmurs into your minds before she breaks the kiss with Tzanzi to favor you with one just as fervent and greedy. We could make our approach in the Ethereal, rather than the physical....

Now that is an idea you hadn't thought of....

[] Teleport to the city and see what can be learned with the Dust of Illusion in effect.
[] More to the Ethereal, and then teleport, and decide if you are willing to make the assault then.
[] The risk is just too high, even if the reward is great; one more day will make no difference.
[] Prepare all your defenses and powers, share out those that Yzia can provide, and use Treacherous Teleport to arrive in multiple locations.
[] Have Siobhan request Fehr Vaed explain the situation and plan to Yashi and request a Divination spell be performed.
[] Write in?

I do hope this idea won't backfire on us. But it's too nice a prize to pass up

Also damn, turns out a fully healthy Tzanzi is a really horny Tzanzi
>>
>>2444673
We're scouting a little first at least, and while I am super hesitant about this course of action, I'm also not really sure how better to prepare ourselves since we only used one spell today.

Like I guess we could make Tzanzi a Silver Sword, but I'm not sure how quickly we could get that done, even with our private demiplane, or if we have the resources for that right now.
>>
>>2444680
Yeah, we're on a little bit of a tight schedule I suppose
>>
>>2444685
Well... I'm not entirely sure we are? Like Raids generally last several weeks, maybe even a month or so (I think?) and that Githzerai isn't gonna leave until she kills a certain amount of Githyanki which she isn't liable to do due to no one being willing to face her but us, and I'm not sure if there's a limit to how often we can cloak Tzanzi from the GIthzerai's awareness, or if the Githzerai was already aware of Tzanzi and will note a gap where Tzanzi used to be.
>>
>>2444689
At the same time, Akko has already procrastinated and been sidetracked a lot, and we're also competing against all the other cadres here who might not sit tight and wait until we're ready
>>
>>2444694
For the Raid in general, that's true though we already won big from all those Elven Childer we nabbed, but in terms of the Githzeria, I'm not sure anyone but us CAN face her, except maybe Dunzamn himself.

I was changing the bandage over the wound that was left when they removed the skin cancer on my leg. Basic bandage, and all. Skin around the site was red from the bandages, but I change it every day, the wound was just fine.

About an inch and a half square of otherwise normal skin - skin not associated with the injury site except that it was placed under the sticky part of the bandage - came off with the bandage.

Bleeding like a stuck pig, I managed to get my friend up to drive me to urgent care, where they cleaned the wound, checked it, explained it was some kind of allergic reaction to the adhesive that weakened the skin, and wrapped my wounds in vaseline, gauze and medical tape.

So, writing, finishing the thread, taking handful of painkillers, and going to bed.

>>2444680
Akko does not have the resources to make another silver sword just now - part of why she took Dunzamn's offer - and it takes a minimum of 6-8 months to make a Silver Sword.

>>2444689
This raid is planned out at about 4 -10 months, depending on what resources can be obtained and how many prisoners can actually be ransomed. Nondetection can be cast by Yzia or Akko, lasts for 24 hours, and the maskes have the same effect. Yzia also keeps Detect Scrying up.

>>2444698
Of the people Dunzamn believes can face the githzerai, it came down to himself, Akko, Falna, and Tzanzi. Falna, of course, is dead.

I mean I guess she was far from her best the few times we had to confront her, but I really don't see how Dunzamn thinks she'd stand a chance, based on how easy she was to kill.

[X] More to the Ethereal, and then Teleport, and decide if you are willing to make the assault then.

Chirruping softly at the attention you are getting, because it's really nice attention, you consider the idea carefully. While Seeing Invisibility will reveal creatures in the Ethereal, it still leaves them untouchable except to force-based effects and magic. Though, it is worth noting Siobhan, being just such an effect due to the elder power coursing through her form can be used to strike from the material world into the Ethereal. Sadly the reverse isn't true, making assassination impossible from that direction (a pity, really),

There are plenty of strange creature and horrors on the Ethereal, along with specters, haunts, ghosts, and other phantom remnants of the living. Between you and Yzia such matters are not of great issue, and Tzanzi, being the hunter of abominations and aberrations that she is, can deal with most of the living ones. But perhaps the most interesting thing is that the life energies of living creatures can be seen from the Ether – particularly those associated with Ki and psychic disciplines.

It's an ideal way to gather some information on the traitor.

You kiss Tzanzi then Yzia once more, and Tzanzi threatens to give you tongue piercings yet again (you rather wonder if that's how Yashi got hers now) before asking if Yzia will bear you not only to the human citadel but into the Ethereal existence. As she takes draconic form, you entertain the newly excitable Tzanzi with mental whispers and pleasures, sharing memories of Yashi's and Kteine's lovemaking, birth as a male and as a female, which intrigues her. She doesn't have any preferences aside from her mildly sadistic tendencies, which she prefers plying on females because they're less likely to fight and more likely to enjoy it, so a male's form is an interesting and less experienced plaything for her.

A game for later, you admonish her as you clime into the tresses and harness before her switching Siobhan to a back-carry. Yzia leaps into the air and slides from the material world into the hazy, thick substance of the Ethereal. Sheets of dim light slide through the substance of the Ethereal, and the universe is a hazy, shadowy reality where emotion makes a larger imprint than physicality. Yzia, using the images given you by Yashi, Teleports to the castle wherein the princess is kept hidden and 'safe', and the unusual enemy unknowingly awaits your arrival.

The material world's hazy appearance is still enough to learn from; acruballistae, ballistae, deadly cords of then wire strung between taller buildings, powerfully built archers and spear-men hidden in various buildings, archers trained in mystic arts and assassins who practice subtle and secretive magics waiting in ambush....all threats meant to keep dragons from laying waste to the warriors and mercenaries of the kingdom. The presence of human gish and zerth is interesting; they understand all too well that dragons cannot be taken down or even annoyed by force of arms alone.

The cables are a very nasty trick – you can see two dragons who have been felled by the cunning traps and wicked techniques undoubtedly suggested by the githzerai. Another thing to make her pay for. Being immaterial, Yzia passes through the cords and lines easily, takign note of their locations and presence. It would be a terror to navigate this unknowingly; they are strung high enough that it makes assaulting the weapons below a dangerous possibility for younger, less powerful dragons such as most of those in the Lair.

A map of them will be invaluable, Tzanzi agrees, and knowing where these ambushers are will make the next assault even more effective. Perhaps an Ethereal commencement instead of a material one would be idea. Assassinating the ambushers and clearing out the archers, zerth and gish especially, would be ideal. But the plan only works if you manage to kill the githzerai – she would let them know such a tactic is coming and most likely would suggest they move the bands of assassins and ambushers. I think rather than sending Yzia as distraction she join us in the attempt to kill the cenobite.

Eying a filcher which flees from your presence, you partly agree that it might be wise. But let us look in on our playmate beforehand. the idea of capturing her alive....so rich, so tempting. Taking her for your own would be a coup difficult to measure. Sharing her with Tzanzi and Yzia? Glorious! Yzia's shocked, delightfully surprised emanation of pleasure and wonder literally colors a swath of the Ethereal materials in your wake, pink and red and blue. Tzanzi is terrible tickled by the idea as well.

The castle is not as easily penetrated as the other buildings tend to be; it's Ethereal structure is reinforced with spilled blood and enchantments alike. Yzia 'lands', sliding like a massive serpent through the blocks and passages enchanted and protected by spells and the blood of strange creatures. No surprise the royal apartments are so protected. The blood of gorgons, medusae, and the ichors of certain diabolic creatures are proof against the normal softness of the Ethereal materials. Simply transplanted stone, however, would not stand against your combined might.

Breaking such things would undoubtedly set off alarms and the like; Yzia and yourself, able to see the magic of such things, would have to work with some difficulty to defeat them.

The sense of Tzanzi using a similar ability startles you and you turn to look into her shimmering eyes, the blue glow within showing that she too can see the auras of magic. She smiles. It is an ability I lost with the parts of my brain consumed; a small talent, but immensely valuable to me at one time. It once again serves me well. You lean back and kiss her, enjoying the fact that you have returned to her magic she once possessed and was unable to use.

The idea is horrible.

The tower where the princess is kept is laced with spells, Ethereal metals and stone, and the blood and ichors of creatures that make ingress difficult. But you can clearly see the githzerai adept sitting in the center of the richly appointed pleasure room, the hard stone floor of no more concern to her than the unchanging reality she has chosen to inhabit compared to the shifting madness of her home reality. You concentrate, focusing your will, and study her well of Ki and the potency of her life force. The rich, vibrant colors of her energy centers, the flood of her aura is brilliant, lighting up nearly the entire room. The Elder Power is infused into her very flesh and blood as well, vibrant emerald sheets of flame, hot white power, and rich amethyst swirls. Interesting that the colors are different.

She is at least an adept on the same order as you yourself are a magus, and her Elder Power is only a shade weaker than your own (for you can study your own life force and mystic potential – not Ki, but the Arcane Force you collect and cherish). You have used some little of your arcane force and Elder Power, but you still outmatch her, though only slightly so.

The cenobite is a formidable foe, a deadly threat. Her cloak contains weapons and tools of murder and mayhem, and you can see the living presence of a Silver Sword among them. Theft of that alone will call down an army of githzerai to storm the place....if they realize it is ever lost. Such a vast temptation, you murmur to your companion and your friend, can only be a trap.

Shall we spring it?
