Pokemon Treats! We owe them to both Cubcoal and Chiwip.

One of each of those items. 2700 Pokedollars.
>>
Remember when Chiwip was poisoned and people were super worried.

We should buy Antidotes.
>>
iirc letting your pokemon die and/or using items like medicine on them decreases friend level. With that in mind I vote for >>2440992

OP does Pokedoll let us use Substitute?
>>
>>2441020
Shouldn't we just buy full heals instead antidotes are much more situational and cost only a little less
>>
Should've asked if she was on the menu.
>>
Why do people want a Poke Doll? It's waaay to expensive to even be worth it
>>
>>2441055
It's cute.
>>
>>2441031
Precisely. I chose the items that would allow us to support our Pokemon during emergency situations. Potion to restore them mid-battle. Poke Doll to take damage in times of crisis. Escape Rope if we desperately need to escape some God forsaken place. And Pokemon Treats to reward our Pokemon's survival.
>>2441055
It acts as a substitute during battle. It takes damage for your Pokemon while still allowing them to attack. Like having a temporary force field. It can be a life saver if we get in over our heads and need to retreat. It will be our trump card when all else fails.
>>
>>2440649
>poke treats 500
>2 potions 400
>2 pokeballs 400
>2 antidotes 400
Total of 17,000
Not too bad and we have some wiggle room to start building an early team for first gym
>>
>>2441078
>Potion to restore them mid-battle
Actually there was a discussion about that last thread and I think it was decided potions would only be used outside of battle to keep us from hoarding potions and just win battles trough healing.
>>
We need to start training with our Pokemon.

Weighted clothing anyone?
>>
>>2441105
WE will be the weights
>>
>>2441098
Is that assuming a formal battle between trainers? What about wild pokemon? Can we switch out and heal the other one as that one fights?
>>
>>2441098
I see. My point still stands in regards to supporting our Pokemon when they are weak. Let's just make sure not to let them faint in battle. It would be wise to catch one or two more Pokemon and rotate them out when need be.
>>
Jeez, our pokemon are such pussies.
>>
>>2441116
Honestly I agree, it's why I'm kind of relieved the battle didn't go any further and why I suggested we buy a couple more pokebals, I know we're not gonna catch every pokemon we encounter but it's better to be prepared.
>>
>>2440649
Buy 7 pokeballs poke treats and 2 full heal
>>
>>2441121
Eh, Chiwip at the very least took a couple of hits and held up. Chiwip hit the other guy with one spark and he went down like a sack of potatoes.

Most of Maho’s undiscovered, don’t see why there couldn’t be a few Pokémon floating about that no one had catalogued yet. Most Legendary Pokémon probably started out as myths anyways, in other regions.

>>
>>2441634
I don't want to make excuses for holes in the writing but you have to admit, that's pretty accurate to most people in real life, particularly these days.
They pick a side of the fence to stand on and then make sure they're as far from the other side as possible. If they were standing anywhere closer to the center you probably wouldn't have gotten their opinion without asking for it.
>>
>>2441816
I honestly wouldn't call one character being kinda stupid a hole in the writing. If we did that with everything, episodes of the Simpsons would just be the storytelling equivalent of the backspace button
>>
>>2441634
This is also an old lady anon. She's just tutting at these kids these days. The fact that the sighting made the news shows that other people do care
>>
>>2441512
This really triggers my autism. Legendary Pokemon aren't "confirmed" finding a Kyogre doesn't mean Regirock is real. Also, the very specific thing about legendary pokemon is that they're only known about through myths/legends, most are constantly talked about with skepticism in the games and anime.

A Pokemon that's existence is relatively unknown and usually only heard about through stories is legendary. That's what a legend is.

And considering it seems that in this world all or most of those legends have been proven to be true, I suggest

>He might be right, I mean, there are a lot of crazier things in the world.
>>
>>2441634
It could just be " the blurry big pokemon are just ordinary big pokemon and not super special in any way"
Like is glimpse of a big flaming dog you seeing an Entai, the mythical pokemon? Or is it more likely an Arcanine, which are rare, but high level trainers publically use?
>>
>>2441925
>the blurry big pokemon are just ordinary big pokemon and not super special in any way
That still a new pokemon, ordinary pokemon can and have made people disappear, it's in a few pokedex entries.

Literally nothing about these claims are unbelievable or unusual.

This is a normal fucking Wednesday in the pokemon world, the worst thing Seb has done is care about something this relatively mundane.
>>
>>2441935
It would be weird if he sees these blurry cvideos and aggreively jumps to the conclusion that they MUST be super special god pokemon. Then everyone would be like "ok buddy, tone it down, could just be mundane shit"
>>
>>2441973
>super special god pokemon
We have no reason to think anyone has made this claim, all we know is that people have said it's real, and it probably is.
>>
>>2441555
>Well, maybe they're real. It's hard to tell.
>What kinds of Pokemon are they seeing anyway? Like...do you know where they'd supposedly be?
>>
>>2441634
Even legendaries that are confirmed to exists have some people saying that they might just be legends, hense the name. Imagine a pokemon that straight up has so little evidence of it's existence for one reason or another than it might as well be rumors.
>>
>>2442391
Mythical Pokemon are like that. Mew, Jirachi, Shaymin, Celebi, Victini.
>>
>>2442462
yeah but at least those have ancient texts and stories to go by, these only have rumors and blurry footage. It's kind of the same difference than ancient monster stories and modern day criptyds in a way I suppose.
>>
>>2440615
I look at it like this, Legendaries are confirmed pokes that are rarely ever seen that have a long standing history, legends. And Cryptics are pokemon that are so goddamn rare and have no real evidence of existence that most people don't even believe in them.

I agree that this concept is kinda fucked with due to the fact that so much of Maho is unexplored. But I'm willing to forgive the hole since cryptid based pokemon is such a cool concept.

If we find Seb bullying or attempting to capture Fevine am I the only one who thinks beating the shit out of him is a decent response? I'm not saying we kill him and leave his body in the wilderness for Scamprey to devour (though the irony would be sweet), but kicking his ass and stealing/liberating Fevine might be worthwhile if it comes down to that route. Plus it starts our criminal lifestyle with a good cause.
>>

Mainly just considering the worst case scenario of Seb capturing Fevine. Well real worst case is Fevine is already dead, but there's nothing we could do about that. Lets just hope Glacier is kind to us.
>>

Supporting this.

We'll be notorious outlaws, with our cubcoal and Fevine.

If Seb isn't trying to tzke Fevine, or helps them/us, I suggest we befriend him. He's a misunderstood good boy.

Yeah, if he is just a bit of an ass but ultimately just gruff that's fine. I could get how everyone calling you a loon for being interested in cryptic pokemon could leave you a bit unfriendly after a while.

I give it 50-50 odds that felvine would investigate an a loud, fiery battle.

>>2444492
>>2444500
Yeah, it isn't a bad idea to use ember for a flare type effect, but I'd save it as a last resort. It could scare Fevine away potentially especially if it is aware of the munkits around here, or alternately it might attract undesired attention. Still if nothing else it works as a backup if just wandering around in the dark with a flashlight fails.
>>
>>2444485
Dex entry said Fevines are typically only seen at night. Flitting through tree tops iirc? So best to look for it at night, and up high.

So am I the only one who would want Nibdew if we get Fevine. 2 out of the 3 starters kinda erks me and it would be nice to use all 3. I really like them all.
>>
>>2445788
I honestly feel that it's kind of cheap that we get Fevine just because we begged for it, getting Nibdew without going to great lengths to do so like stealing him from the lab or actually finding one in it's natural habitat would just make it worse.
>>
>>2445788
Don't push it.
>>
>>2445788
I don't even want Fevine. Having 2 starters is already pretty shitty. As cute as it is, everybody complaining and begging and pining about Fevine has completely turned me off of it. I'm hoping one of the other characters gets Fevine, and that we can move the fuck on.
>>
>>2445788
I don't even want Fevine. It simply isn't right that we have 2 starter pokemons even tho Fevine had my original support
>>
>>2445788

>>
>>2445812
>>2445826
>>2445838

>>
To be fair we still don't know if we're actually getting Fevine, it does seem too good to be true.
>>
>>2446002
I sorta hope we don't but if that's the case then this is a total a tease which is a kinda dick move especially to Fevinefags
>>
>>2445788
>Wanting Nibdew
Nah

>>2445838
>Simply isn't right
Being serious here, how come? I mean it's not like we're stealing Fevine straight out of the arms of a waiting 10 year old or anything. Besides this is a quest - since there's direct anon participation there should be room for a little flexbility in the choices here and there. If I wanted everything to go by the established rules of the pokemon verse I would have just played the games or read a fanfic or something.
>>
I’m mostly concerned about him being caught be Seb in particular, since their compatibility seems rather poor. Fevine is intelligent, but timid, and would do best with a patient, supportive trainer. While Seb didn’t seem cruel or anything, he wasn’t exactly encouraging or cheering on his Pokémon during the battle. I doubt he’d have much patience for Fevine’s cautious streak.
>>
>>2444485
>We have to keep looking even if it kills us!
>>
>>2446140
You never know, Seb could be a Gladion archtype aka dere to his pokemon but and edgy tsun to everyone else. Still want Fevine to come with us though.

But I don't think Seb will have much patience for Fevine either, the timidness will probably put him off and Fevine's cuteness will ruin his carefully cultivated chuuni image

Another to keep in mind is that if Kreep knows sleep powder. So if it's still with us we might be able to use that to subdue it.

>>

>>
>>2448872
I... yes?

Should I not be?

Many people have said we could fucking die.
>>
>>2448885
We're not actually trying to kill the giant evolved ghost monster. That WOULD be suicidal.

But if we're taking this more realistically, we need to show enough strength that cubcoal isn't going to be immediately slaughtered, while slowly backing away from their territory WITH cubcoal. Doing it quickly would only encourage more giant ghost blasts. In that sense, using ember moves that would actually harm it could be a bad idea while paralyze would at least make it easier to run.

If we're being greedy, we could also 4v1 blitz and hope a pokeball saves our asses. Either way, some amount of fighting is needed.
>>
>>2448904
or was it 3v1? Not sure if Jess' sniffer has an attack that hurts ghosts.
>>
>>2448885
That's exactly why we should fight. Animals tend to prioritize survival if we can do damage it might back off but if we try to run from a 4 legged pokemon with a cannon-like attack that knows the forest better than us it'll 100% catch 2 people who probably aren't pro runners. You should also keep in mind it's a figure of speech I doubt Cole wants to just slaughter this pokemon I mean he offered the guy a cookie so he's not some blood thirsty barbarian

>>2448911
Isn't it dark type. It should have a dark type move which will deal super effective damage
>>
>>2448851

>>
>>2448921
At the moment we're too underlevelled to do much than slightly dent it, and even doing that will fuck our side up real good.

We need to get it to back off long enough to grab Cubcoal and run. Paralyzing it also has the benefit of preventing it from giving chase after us.
>>
>>2448935
I'm wagering it's closer to like... 26~30, tops.
>>
>>2448706
>No! I can't leave Cubcoal behind! I'll grab him and leave!
But supporting details in >>2448746 if possible.
>>
>>2448935
To be fair, this is more like the anime. "Levels" aren't a direct correlation to strength here. He is admittedly much larger then our Pokemon though, so I'd be doubtful of our chances to win. Abandoning Cubcoal's definitely not an option however. Could we try to get it's baby to, like, stick up for us? It seemed amicable enough before it's parent tried to erase us.
>>
>>2448954
Looks like a third stage evo to me. And I'd say that puts it at least to level 35.

>>2448957
If you want to take the level abstractions out of it, fine. I'll put it like this; we can't defeat this large, scary, powerful monster with our three little newborns. The guy said we'd "gangbang it," just because we have type advantage, which is ridiculous. We can't abandon Cubcoal, though, you're right. A head-on fight won't work, and the power of friendship has failed us. I'm not totally sure what to do except hope the Kreep calms down its mother or try to be smart about things. Have Chiwip Thunder Wave the beast, probably.
>>
Well, on the bright side, the angry parent...probably means it isn't Fevine?
>>
>>2448935
The whole is greater than the sum if it's parts. People underestimate how much of an advantage numbers give you in a fight it's hard to fight 3 small targets all at once and it can get overwhelming really fast especially if we debuff it. Also I think levels aren't a thing like the in anime but I would like it if Glacier could confirm
>>
>>2448706

The danger here isn't just that thing, it's the threat of more showing up. That makes fighting a bad idea. Plus, running away makes sense given Cole's timid/cowardly demeanor.

On the other hand, if we run, we have no idea how fast that thing is. Plus, Cubcoal probably isn't going to back down easily. And Cole seems self-aware enough to hate himself for his cowardice, perceived or otherwise. He's gotta draw a line in the sand somewhere.

We can't run away without Cubcoal. If we run away without Cubcoal, we'll get turned into a Gengar or something. Cubcoal doesn't want to run. I don't know if he wants *us* to run or not. But we can't run without him.

If we fight and live, we risk running into more nasties. If we run, we risk that *this* nasty is faster than us. Trainers die in these woods for a reason and this is probably one of them.

However, if we choose to fight, Cubcoal's in its blind spot. If he can stay there, that's a pretty big advantage. And if by some miracle we win, Cubcoal has Moxie. Admittedly, that won't help too much against other ghosts, but..

If we *do* decide to fight, we need to fight *dirty.* "Fight to the death" isn't hyperbole on the enemy's side, and we can't let it be on ours. We need to kill that which is already dead, even if we have to set the whole goddamn forest on fire. Though wet wood doesn't burn as easily as dry wood, so upsetting Smokey the Bear is probably going to be harder than it looks.

When badgers pick fights with lions, the balls are an easy target. Y'know, at first I thought staying to fight was a dumb idea, but I keep thinking of more and more reasons to do it. We still don't know where Fevine is. This big ghost picked the fight with us. If it finds Fevine before we do... Then again, some other bad guy could find Fevine while we're distracted here.

Whatever we decide to do, we should probably
>Order Cubcoal to use Ember!
Because he's using Scratch right now, and that's only worthwhile as a distraction. Which lends credence to the "buying us time" theory.

If we have to distract the big guy for whatever reason, we can also blow a pokeball to "catch" him. There's no way in hell we'll *actually* catch him, but it'll distract him for a few precious seconds.
>>
>>2448964
I was feeling it was one of those where it only has a first and second stage, but we don't really know.

...Also, how does it have a parent when it's a ghost made from lost souls.
>>
>>2448981
Take that up with Game Freak making Ghosts able to breed. The short answer is that the ghost parent either kills things for their souls or gathers wayward souls floating about in the aether into a little ball in its uterus.
>>
>>2448964
Even with a thunder wave the chances of out running that thing are very low. I mean it can shoot shadow balls(?) that cause a huge ass explosion so turning our backs to it isn't the starters move. At least fighting shooting it with fire will might scare it away

>>2448981
People are just assuming their related nothing is confirmed at all that's why I'm saying we should scan it so we can plan accordingly
>>
>>2448990
Never said to run. Paralyzing it gives us an advantage during the fight. We don't know that it has Shadow Ball, but we can safely assume they're related given the similarity in design and appearance, and the fact that the larger one sought out the smaller one when it was crying/approached by a stranger.
>>
>>2448976
I'll stand for fighting dirty. I'm thinking we go for an eye though. We don't really know if thing has, y'know, genitals. Tbqh, I'm not too concerned for Fevine. He's a feline type Pokemon, known for their stealthy nature, nocturnal lifestyle, and forest habitat. This is probably just another day for him. This place is probably less dangerous then where he lives, if anything. I do say we see if we can have the kid calm it's parent down before we cement fighting as our only option though.
>>
>>2448990
Can't we just ask the sibling of the Pokemon professor, who seems fairly knowledgeable about Pokemon and is also right next to us?
>>
>>2448976
I might be just really forgetful but how has Cole shown that he's cowardly and timid. He choose the aggressive and borderline suicidal starter, went into the dangerous forest, fought the first thing he saw, challenged a kid to a battle cause he was rude, and went back into the forest to search for a cat at night. That doesn't seem like a cowardly or timid guy to me but I could just be forgetting some examples
>>
>>2448966
>>2448981

Maybe it killed Fevine? Maybe once a ghost kills you it adopts you? Plenty of undead have a history of transforming others into more of themselves. Vampires and zombies are the best known, but plain ol' ghosts have a much easier time of it if you really think about it.

Ghost Pokemon lore is incongruent with Pokemon universal mechanics.
Each stage of a ghost type has a different origin lore typically but they still evolve from each other.

The conservative headcanon is that higher stages can come into being the way their dex entries describe but can also be evolved into naturally.
>>
>>2448997
It doesnt have to be shadow ball. It could be energy ball or aura sphere or something else. And it didn't look like it was responded to it's childs cries it wss just looming over us so I think it could go either way. I personally think they might be related in some way but that's still just an assumption at the end of the day

>>2449005
Eyes, under belly, and back/top all seem like the best places to attack. I assume Pokemon genitalia are like animals is that of an animals where it's not really out in the open unless it's time to fuck

>>2449010
Just cause she knows a lot about pokemon or is the Prof's. sis doesn't mean she knows all the details about every mon. The pokedex is an encyclopedia meant to store this data so it's probably more reliable
>>
>>2449025
Well I mean we are him. His personality and choices are decided by us. Of course Glacier takes some liberties with his character while he's drawing so that he has a more fleshed out personality but it's formed in huge part to our decisions. I just don't know where you got the impression that he's cowardly and timid. No offense but it just seems like your own head canon unless you got some examples of it.
>>
>>2449038
Yeh, but I'd rather ask the lady next to us who probably at least knows it's name and evolutions, rather then try and scan it with the machine that doesn't give out a tonne of info during combat, as the thing's shooting at us, and probably needs to be closer then we already are.
>>
>>2449053
Mostly I was thinking of the first page of the quest. Also the fact that he's a late bloomer, leaving home at 20 instead of becoming an adult at 10 years old.

But yeah. Like I said, I might be reading too much into it.
>>
>>2449057
The pokedex gives name, evo's, type, moves, ability and useful dex info and take like 2 seconds to pull out. I don't know why you think she's can just list all the important info of some random pokemon especially in a dangerous and stressful situation like this. It's also distracted by Cubcoal and we could send out our other mons to add more pressure to it and the pokedex (in the anime at least which this quest is heavily inspired by) has scan pokemon from high up in the sky on several occasions so I don't think this is too much of a stretch especially considering it's size
>>
>>2448706
>>No, Cubcoal wants to fight and so do I! We'll fight to the death!
>>
>>2449075
Do pokedexes not have a combat mode though, that limits information while fighting? Wouldn’t be very sporting to learn your opponents every strength and weakness in the midst of a battle.

sounds like they are pretty angry pokemon though. They might not be able to evolve if they have a good trainer, because they don't turn bitter
>>
>>2450404
It might have a second evolution in that case.
>>
>>2450404
And Litwick lure people to their doom by sapping their life energy away while guiding them in circles. Doesn't mean if you catch one it'll drink your soul up. Salamence and Hydreigon are described as rampaging monsters, but there are Docile and Bashful examples of them as well. Don't put too much stock into dex entries. There's a difference between a Pokemon you domesticate and train, and one you just catch. If we raise a Kreep into a Wrathour, shit should be fine.
>>
>>2450366
Pokemon tend to mellow down a bit when they're caught. If they're bloodthirsty monsters they'll still be aggressive but they won't attack random children on sight or anything. Trained mons tend to vent their aggression and rage during battles. Plus we are on this things territory it does have a right to be kind of mad at us maybe not justified enough to shoot shadow balls but still it's not seeking out murder or anything it's probably just mad that we touched its kid
>>
>>2449057
...wait a sec...
>Closer than it needs to be
>Shadow Ball=ranged attack.
>Shadow balls explode.

I'm getting an idea. If we have to keep fighting it, we can bait it into using Shadow ball, then attack the ball itself, causing it to blow up in the monster's face!

That aftermath ability worries me, though. Right now, I think we should run for it. Cubcoal's in range, and Chiwip's in the line of fire.

>Withdraw Chiwip and Cubcoal while it's charging!
>Time how long it takes for that guy to charge his Shadow Balls.

If you had well-coordinated and trained pokemon, you could maybe try that.

If you had level 20ish pokemon, it could actually be POSSIBLE.

With the level of complexity some people are angling for, I suspect they want a different kind of monster.
>>
>>2450867
Well, when I first thought of it, I thought Cubcoal would be our gunner. Ember seems to have a spread-shot. I figured we could compensate for aim by using more bullets. Admittedly, not the best idea.

...actually, maybe using Thunder Wave on this guy at the right moment would have the same effect. That way, we don't have to hit such a small target, and even if it fails we still paralyze him. Assuming our previous Thunder Wave failed, that is. Anyway, if we try that, then our only issue is timing it just right.
>>
>>2450876
Or we could just run away. I mean, we wanna catch him, but that's clearly not happening, so let's just make a break for it after we withdraw Cubcoal and Chiwip, maybe toss a Pokeball to slow it down, then leg it.

Wait, hear me out! Despite or /because/ of Cole's kinda timid nature, I imagine he knows what it was like to be lost and alone in a new place. Worse is that the new place is supremely deadly in addition to scary.

He isn't stupid but he /is/ impulsive as shown by that lashing out even if he knows better. That's why I think he emphatizes with Fevine and wants to help because he sees a little of himself in Fevine and can't let it go.

Basically a Naruto situation where we emphatize with someone too much

You don't get it. It's OUR fault Fevine's out here in the first place. That means it's our responsibility. Our problem. We have to make this right.

I'm speaking as a Fevinefag who didn't even vote for Fevine, and who was against the "DUR MAYBE HE'LL RUN AWAY AND JOIN US AND WE CAN HAVE ALL THA STARTERS 'CUZ WE'RE A PROTAGONIST AND WE'RE SPESHUL" bullshit. Even though I liked the idea, I was afraid of what could have happened instead.

Also, Seb doesn't seem like a bad guy right now. Glad we ran into him.
>>
>>2452185
How is it our fault? What were we supposed to choose Fevine becuase it was dumb enough to run away into the forest if we didn't? That's bullshit we chose the mon we wanted and Fevine got himself in this situation. It's HIS admittedly cute antics that got HIMSELF in this situation not ours.

No. I'm blaming the people who wanted to have their cake and eat it too. The people who voted for Cubcoal because they thought they could have it both ways, as opposed to the people who voted for Cubcoal because they wanted fucking Cubcoal and the people who voted for Fevine because they wanted fucking Fevine.

They could have been honest and voted for Fevine, and if Fevine had won, Cubcoal wouldn't have followed us because Cubcoal don't give a fuck. Instead they tried to have it both ways and led Fevine on as a result.
>>
>>2452360
But how did we lead Fevine on? We didn't vote if Fevine would follow us or not it decided to do that on his own. The people who voted for Cubcoal under the logic that Fevine might follow were correct. If we told Fevine to follow us then sure we're to blame but it seems the majority of people wanted only 1 starter. It's just the minority crying it always happens that doesn't make it the majorities fault. Fevine chose to do it so he's 100% to blame for this situation.
>>
>>2452387
I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you're not meaning to come off as a total dick, but that is in fact what you are doing. Your arguments so far are summed up as:
>Oh, that pokemon that is exceedingly loyal to the things it likes has escaped the lab to try and track us down because it really likes us.
>And it's really dangerous outside, it could really be in trouble huh?
>Well this isn't our problem at all. It shouldn't have liked us enough to try and come after us.
>I can't believe you people are voting to get us killed to try and go find and help that thing which is risking its own life to try and find us.
>Really, if it dies it's not our problem.
This is one of those things where even if you're right, it doesn't make you correct. And that's ignoring the fact that we very obviously DID vote to try and coerce it into following us based on its dex entry, which had its own page specifically dedicated to it happening.

But what did we do wrong to make us responsible. This is all Fevine's fault and you expect us to go into the forest with dangerous pokemon in the middle of night with our baby starter and pidgey equivalent to find a a green cat in the middle of the forest at night because said cat didn't have the foresight to stop and think maybe this isn't the best idea. Fuck that we didn't do anything wrong here's what we did:
>Saw all the starters
>Said we liked Cubcoal the best but would like to see them all in action
>Eventually bonded with Fevine
>But chose the starter most people wanted
Vs what Fevine did
>Liked a trainer
>Travels out into the woods with dangerous pokemon
>Causes everyone to worry about him and risk their lives trying to find them
Fevine did everything wrong and we did nothing wrong. No lead ons. Nothing. We made it clear that even though we like the guy we decided to journey with Cubcoal. And now you think the best course of action after getting our asses beat. Is to walk into the forest without our companion when it's even darker? That's suicide. I'm not saying we should completely ignore it but Fevine is literally in it's natural element. So why go on this suicide mission when it isn't our job to take care of Fevine and not just do it in the morning when the pokemon are much less dangerous and Jess has had time to rest and possibly forgive us.

And as for the argument that we wanted this to happen you can look through the thread right now and see that most people don't want 2 starters so most clearly voted for Cubcoal because they wanted it.
>>
>>2452987
>Expecting Fevine (pokemon) to have the foresight / thought processes of a human
Anon that's literally as stupid as expecting a dog and a human to have the same morals and thought process. Since when do animals (which are basically what pokemon are, only very slightly more intelligent) have any form of impulse control?

Also before the idea of taking Cubcoal and Fevine following after us was brought up the Cubcoal and Fevine votes were tied. After the idea was brought up we got several people changing their Fevine vote to Cubcoal specifically because they wanted that situation to happen.
>>
>>2452601
hey man, nothing gay about a friendly bj out in the woods at night to let off steam after training
>>
>>2453053
My cat wouldn't walk into a fucking forest because it's instincts tell it to. Also pokemon are smarter than animals. Last time I checked my cat couldn't understand what I was saying. I assume pokemon have the same intelligence as dolphins or pigs but not humans. So they can think logically and have morality (like we've seen in the anime) but that can't make bombs or cities like humans can (but I will admit this last part is not confirmed so I guess it's just my head canon even though I think the anime supports this theory). And even if they weren't that smart we still didn't do anything wrong. Let me try to put it like this. If I cross the street and a my friends dog on the opposite side of the street likes me enough to chase after me and is gonna get hit by a car. Should I risk my life and shield the dog from traffic? No we didn't do anything wrong unless you count crossing the street wrong so it's the dogs fault. We shouldn't ignore the dog we should get it medical attention but we shouldn't risk our lives to save it

And also you just proved what I was saying. It was a tie so an equal number of people wanted them but a minority wanted both so Cubcoal won. If glacier gave us an option to decide if Fevine would follow us and we voted for that then fair enough. But we didn't it was a minority of people who wanted both not the majority
>>
>>2453114
>My cat wouldn't walk into a fucking forest because it's instincts tell it to.
Yes it fucking would you actual clown
>>
>>2453129
It depends on the cat really. My cat is a coward and is really jumpy to so it hates going out and I have a friend with a dog with the same problem. But another of my friends has a cat that likes to explore and get lost. And was it really necessary to insult me to get your point across
>>
>>2453114
>My cat wouldn't walk into a fucking forest because it's instincts tell it to.
Are you forgetting that Fevine is literally a forest dweller? Why would it not go into familar terrain in chase of the person it bonded to? And also you bet your cat would happily prance into the forest if its hunter instincts were roused by a bird or something.

>minority of people who wanted both not the majority
Speak for youself anon, there were people who picked one over the other ONLY because picking a single pokemon was the sole option Glacier gave us, but would also have been happy taking both if the offer was on the table - I was one of them.

Both suggestions involving Cubcoal and Fevine both joining us gained traction pretty quickly, and there were tons of anons commenting that it'll be a shame to leave behind the one who wasn'y picked / it was hard to chose between them. If anything it was the people who vocally wanted to stick to one pokemon that was the minority.
>>
>>2452987
>All Fevine's fault
Fevine's a pokemon. You can't hold this kind of behavior against him. He's following his nature and doesn't know better.

>We did nothing wrong!
Enough people wanted it that glacier put it in Cole's thought bubble, and then voted to pet Fevine in hopes of bonding with it enough to manipulate it emotionally.

So you can argue that we as anons aren't responsible, and maybe you're right. I think you're wrong. Either way, it doesn't change the fact that Cole's responsible.

>Most people don't want 2 starters so most clearly voted for Cubcoal because they wanted it.

That's not how it works. Even if that's true, which I seriously doubt after having looked at the thread myself, it doesn't change the fact that *enough* people, regardless of whether or not they were a minority, were large enough to influence the actions above.

Why are you being so adamant about this all of a sudden? Is it because I said it was our fault? You seem kind of fixated on the blame-game. I was blaming my fellow Fevinefags, not Cubcoalfags like you. But no, you're all "FEVINE'S FAULT! NOT OUR FAULT!" Who are you trying to convince here?

...but hey, maybe you're right. After all, you've got a point. Fevine *is* in its natural habitat. Probably. It even has a type advantage. We don't know how long it's lived in the lab, so it's probably not rusty. And it knows to run away and hide rather than fight. Us giving it a boost of confidence wouldn't have affected that too much, right?

It's not cowardly to abandon a friend that might be in danger, right?

Yeah. Let's go with that. Justify it to ourselves that it's the smart thing to do.

It's not cowardly to abandon a friend that might be in danger, right?

I mean, I was the guy who thought Cole was timid. Chickening out on this will prove that. So really, I should totally agree with you.
>>
>>2453182
Yeah it's a foresr dweller that's my point it's safer than we would be if we rushed in there in the middle of the night so why rush in the middle of the night and risk a probable death. And also even if it's used ti forests still doesn't make it dangerous if it finds a hostile Chiwip or Munkit things could get dangerous and Fevine is a naturally cowardly pokemon it definitely has reasons why it shouldn't go into the forest with dangerous pokemon. And my cat probably would if it was starving and desperate but Fevine isn't it's just following us because it likes us.

Yeah a minority of people switched over and that made a difference. It's not like Cubcoal started ti destroy Fevine in the number of votes it was a close vote decided because a minority wanted both
>>
>>2453200
iirc all three starters were brought into at around the same time that Cole arrived, so Fevine's instincts haven't dulled at all. The biggest danger to him is falling afoul of the native fire types (and since they're ground dwellers and Fevine's normally move about in the treetops that danger might be minminal) or being captured by someone else (...which would not be a problem is Aspen was even halfway competent and actually balled these super rare pokes the minute he got them).

Also yeah from a meta prespective its totally the fault of us anons that we're in this situation, but Cole as a character didn't do much wrong. All he did was think (and one could even take that as wishful thinking) it would be nice to get both Cubcoal and Fevine, and then give Fevine some goodbye pets. If he actively made to give Fevine an escape route that would be another matter entirely, but if anything the in-quest person who's the most to blame is Aspen, because again if he was a competent professor that actually kept a proper eye on his research subjects Fevine wouldn't have been able to slip away in the first place.
>>
>>2453200
>then voted to pet Fevine in hopes of bonding with it enough to manipulate it emotionally.

Cole pet the cat because it was a cute cat and they are nice to pet, not for some Machiavellian bullshit.

>It's not cowardly to abandon a friend that might be in danger, right?
We met it today and gave it a PAT PAT it's not our friend. It's an acquaintance. A cute one, at that. Cubcoal, is our friend. Chiwip, is our friend. Because we caught them, and like them, and we are responsible for their well being. Putting all three of us in danger to find the cat because Fevinefags can't let go is not fair to our friends or ourselves. Looking for it when things are not dangerous is fine, but when hulking forest ghosts are out and about firing off shadow balls into asses, we should probably lay low.
>>
>>2453279
Fevine and Chiwip should really on the same level - for both we only had a few hours with them and one battle to get to know them. We also clicked with them both of them in said battle.

And we only got the forest ghost on out tail because anons were retarded enough to stick around and feed its baby cookies. The choices Glacier gave us there was run, FUCKING RUN and shut it up so it doesn't attract attention. Fevine shouldn't be blamed for us failing to read the mood on that one.
>>
>>2453279
To be fair, we have proven that we can evade bigger Pokémon though, if we need to. Besides, it’s high risk, true, but Fevine aside there’s likely a number of Pokémon that emerge at night that we’d have no chance of encountering in the day. Some are to much for us to handle, like that giant ghost rhino, but we can likely capture some of the weaker ones. I for one would rather like a Kreep. Who knows what other Pokémon might be about for us to catch? Besides, it’s given us an opportunity to chat with Seb after getting off on the wrong foot the first time around, even if we couldn’t necessarily have predicted such an occurrence.
>>
>>2453200
So if a pitbull attacks a child we shouldn't blame it for following it's aggressive nature? Of course we can blame it for making it's own decisions and even if we can't it's still not our fault. Also as I stated previously pokemon seem to be more intelligent than your average animal as they can understand people and even think things through as seen in the anime with the biggest example being Meowth.

We never got the chance to vote for it Glacier just put that in because some people were talking about it. It wasn't like it was a complete wash some people wanted both but it was far from the minority we can see that in this thread with how a lot of people don't like the idea of having 2 starters. Also we didn't pet Cubcoal to emotionally manipulate it we just like the guy not every action we do toward it has some dark evil motive. I pet my cat cause I think it's cute not because I want to manipulate it to follow me.

It was an even vote before people started to want both. It's not like Fevine was destroying Cubcoal and then it started to turn around. It wasn't hard to manipulate the choice it was still close at the end it was like what 55% vs 45% seems like a minority to me.

I'm stating my argument for why going into the forest now was kind of a bad idea because it was relevant at the time. It's not like it's out of nowhere and I'm bringing this up 5 threads later. And I'm saying that Fevine was wrong because it was everyones worried about him making such a dumb choice how was that not wrong while we just chose another starter.

What's cowardly about not wanting to go into the forest at night filled with dangerous pokemon that probably want to kill us to save a black and green cat in the middle of the forest at night whose probably fine considering it was stated that they're good at hiding themselves. There's a difference between not wanting to die and being a coward

It was gonna attack us anyway anon it's not like the cookie is what started the whole thing. And you gotta admit all the choices were kinda shitty. >>

To be honest the only option Glacier gave which may have blown up in our faces was physically making Kreep be quiet. Walking in on us messing with its baby was really what sent mama Ghost Rhino into attack mode, if we'd chosen to leg it as soon as we'd spotted the baby we might have either a) avoided mama entirely or b)mama might not have taken us as a threat which needed to be removed.

Honestly Glacier was telegraphing pretty damn hard that, cute as it was, Kreep was bad news (and also Jess did say that the forest had nasties in it at night to drive the point home) but it flew over most people's heads.

Also technically Fevine IS one of our responsiblities too, a work one rather and a trainer one. Our boss did task us with tracking him down before he gets captured.
>>
>>2453451
Aren't we just the research assistant? That was the deal right we just explore and research Maho and we get a starter. What does Fevine have to do with that it isn't part of the job description to locate lost pokemon and even if it was I'm sure Aspen would encourage waiting till tomorrow when it's safer to look.
>>
>>2453501
See>>2443745 and >>2444051
Aspen specifically called us up to ask if we can track down Fevine, because he's escaped the lab and is most likely headed after us.

Though yeah he'd probably advise not to go waltzing into the woods at night, I agree.
>>
>>2453341

>Pitbulls
Okay, I'll bite. Pitbulls don't have a more or less aggressive nature as a breed. That's a stereotype unintentionally created by people behind a media campaign that was, ironically, trying to stop dogfighting but ended up glorifying it instead. Also, most "pitbull" attacks aren't actually Pitbull Terriers. There's a bunch of breeds that look similar and most people don't know the difference on sight. I mean, why would they?

So in your case, I'd take a look at the owner. Assuming the owner did everything reasonable to prevent it from happening/warn people that it might be a problem if it seemed likely, and assuming the kid didn't provoke the dog, and assuming the dog isn't a fighting dog or ex-fighting dog, then sure we can blame the dog if blaming the dog means so much to you. We can also blame it if it's a wild dog, because it's not civilized/domesticated. It's not the dog's fault it's not domesticated, but at that point there's nobody else to blame, and we *have* to blame *something* don't we?

As for Fevine, fine. It's true pokemon are a lot more intelligent than your average animal. But if you're gonna play the blame game, you have to blame *everyone.* The only way to "win" the blame game is to have someone maliciously attack you through absolutely no fault of your own or something. Otherwise, there's plenty of blame to go around.

I'll concede that Fevine bears the responsibility for its own decisions. I overreacted in the opposite direction because you were all "IT'S 100% FEVINE'S FAULT AND 0% OURS" and I disagreed. I still do. I'm positive that manipulative intent, however benign, was present. But that's no excuse for over-correcting. Once we find Fevine, we need to give him a stern talking-to about this kind of dangerous behavior--which, I also concede that, given the fact that he's on his home turf, he probably didn't see as dangerous--and worrying everyone, for his own good and for the good of those of us who care about him. But I still believe that we bear some blame and responsibility for our actions too. Cole himself less than the Fevinefags, but still a little bit.

>>2453249
This guy raises a good point. I'm willing to allot a good portion of the blame to Aspen for not having his shit together. Thinking about it, I wonder if he's doing it on purpose? This seems like the sort of ploy a mysterious mentor figure would pull.
>>
>>2453529
Yeah but our job is to research Maho not to do whatever Aspen says. And it's not like he's our boss it was more we made a deal with him. A starter for research
>>
>>2453547
Cool thanks for lesson I guess but my point was less about pitbulls and more about an aggressive animal pitbulls were kind of a strawman to show that an animal can be blamed for it's own actions despite not knowing better and shouldn't be excused just on the basis that it's an animal

As for the blame game thing I don't see the need to blame everyone. Just Fevine for making a dumb decision that'll worry everybody and Aspen for being an irresponsible owner. I can't really stop you from thinking that we didn't pet Fevine with malicious intent. I can bring up an argument about how we put Fevine before the whole 2 starter thing happened or how even if some anons did vote to pet him with malicious intent they're probably in the minority and even if they weren't Cole clearly didn't have any malicious intent but at the end of the day I can't stop you to each their own my friend. And I agree we should scold him for his dangerous (and admittedly cute) behaviour. He really did make everyone worried even if he is probably fine.

Btw why the mentor thing would be pretty funny. Imagine if he was super smart and trying to go through a very roundabout way of giving us all 3 starters so that he could be the coolest professor without getting yelled at by Seqouia

We can always store pokemon and rotate them around, or send them back to Aspen's lab for study. I don't feel like we'll only ever that initial roster and never catch anymore after that - Though I bet we'll bicker a lot later on when we start trying to decide who to swap in or out.

And remember, arguments come from two sources! The good intentioned people who care a lot about what's happening but all ultimately want us to be happy, and the nibdewfags! One can be reasoned with and compromises can be made with friendship and understanding! The other is a poison seeking to turn you against your neighbor.

As annoying as it seems, Anons arguing means there is interest in this Quest. People invested in this story. Compare this to the Quests that have one response every half hour, that only quote the update for voting purposes, without any actual discussion.

This is life, activity. People are putting their thoughts into this, and I think it's great.

Remoraid evolves into octillary becuase Remoraid is based off of the archer fish and designed to look slightly like a gun and it evolves into a cannon which fits an octopus more than a fish. And I don't see what's so wrong about Magnemite there are probably better examples than him

These dudes sound rather like legendaries tbqh, what with the environmental effects they supposedly cause. Speaking of, can we ask this guy if there’s any confirmed legendaries in the region? We never really found out from anyone. If not, aren’t these guys probably just this regions legendaries? If there only one or two that explains their rarity, and the effect they have on the environment. Besides, thirty years really doesn’t seem like that long for a Pokémon to remain undiscovered, especially if there’s only one or a couple of each. The gaps between Pokémon like Kyogre or Rayquaza being spotted are probably just as long.
>>
>>2455215
>Which one are you looking for in particular?

Something something shark with frickin' laser beams.
>>
>>2455949
>Besides, thirty years really doesn’t seem like that long for a Pokémon to remain undiscovered
you would think so but the irl cases of new species being discovered or rediscovered hundreds of years after settling in a place are a lot hell if anything the fact that these pokemon are so rare would make them harder to discover given that the behaviour of a single organism is harder to predict compared to a whole community of the same. I'm pretty sure all the knowledge of cryptic pokemon are mostly gossip passed down from the locals.
>>
>>2456210
Oh yeah, that does bring up the question about aboriginal peoples. We know the area was “Civilized” 30 years ago, but does that mean that that was when humans first moved into the region, or that it was the first time settlers came in from other regions? Are there people who were native to the area before settlers came through?
