After about five or so minutes of waiting- during which you investigate and discover much to your disdain that your smartwatch doesn't have any fun games on it- the two aforementioned kids come out of the hallway, both of them looking exhausted, but otherwise in good spirits. Not to mention they’re joined by a third; a rougher looking boy with a jacket and pants with the same coloration as the X-Force gym. That, plus the logo on the right of the jacket tells you all you need to know about his particular affiliation.

The suddenly-disgruntled desk worker simply points to you as they approach, and Kyo and Tooru’s eyes both bring up a friendly smile, while the new kid simply grins. “Admirer of yours?” he asks; you notice there’s a touch of an undercurrent to his words, like he’s trying to imply something.

“Nah, she’s just a friend,” Kyo responds easily . “Himawari! Glad to see you! How’d you know we’d be here?”

--------------
Hello, bot battlers, and welcome back to Magical Girl For Hire Quest! We are currently playing as Lorelei Vedder, effervescent magical girl extraordinaire, who's currently playing the role of elite minion (SHATTERLIGHT, THE BURNING or something you still need to work that out) for a rather rich man in a world full of competitive miniature robot battling. You’ve been assigned to gather up some supposedly rather powerful Minibot parts, known as the Arhu parts; experimental, but still valuable.

Recently, you've been out shopping for Prima and Jago after...awakening...sapience in her...yeah.

You did that.

It was kinda fun! Anyway, afterwards, you'd decided on a little shopping the next day, getting yourself and your bots some new gear- a parasol/sword for Prima, and a new hat, funny fake pipe, and a practical personal shield for your good Captain. That was when you discovered you'd been tailed by a somewhat familiar face. You'd lost the would-be stalker however, and after scoping out a safehouse, ran into Nia, who informed you where her two friends were. After dropping off your presents, hugging the spark out of Prima, and getting Jago used to his new shield, you and the captain decided to pay a visit to Kyo and Tooru's destination- the X-Force gym. With King's time limit before you need to get to stealing the last part- the Arhu Torso- you still need to scout out the place and make sure any plans you might have are doable. But then again, that might be what this visit is for...
>>

“Lemme guess; Nia?” Tooru hazards, to which you nod in agreement. “What, you two had a girls’ day out?”

“Oh, no.” you giggle. “I just found her after I got done with my own shopping. I bought a few things for Jago; as you can see!”

“Haha, yeah! Nice hat!” Kyo offers, while the new kid just scoffs.

“Fits me roight, don’t it!” Jago agrees.

“Oh, uh, before I forget!” Kyo says quickly, motioning to the boy on his right. “Himawari, this is Ken Ayano. He’s-”

“One of the top members of X-Force, jetsetter, and soon to be M-9 Grand Prix champion!” he offers. “Always nice to meet a new fan- I presume by your bot there you’re a battler yourself, right?”

“Oh, I-” before you can deflect any however, you’re interrupted by Tooru.

“Oh, yeah, she’s pretty good! Even took part in Round 1!” Tooru gushes- before he sighs a bit. “But, uh… she wasn’t able to stick the whole thing out. Personal reasons.” ...Well, at least he wasn’t entirely tactless.

“Ah, that mess with the rampaging bot, yeah?” Ken nods in understanding. “Shame. But hey, if ya got any skill, we’re always lookin’ for new members!”

“I’d be happy to process your membership!” the desk worker shouts out of nowhere, suddenly peppy again.

“Sooooo, ahah, yeah. Himawari!” Kyo continues, purposefully ignoring the recruitment attempt. “What brings you here, again?”

>Oh, uh, like you said, Nia said you were training here. I was just curious, is all! Never been here before.
>Well, you guys are pretty strong, right? There’s well... this rumor that I heard, and I was wondering if you knew about it.

You just shrug and try to make yourself look as demure as possible. “Oh, uh, like you said, Nia said you were training here. I was just curious, since i've never been here before and all that…”

“Ha! Well, afraid you’re a bit late to get the grand tour,” Ken says, folding his arms. “I was just letting these two have the privilege of getting in a little bit of extra training thanks to yours truly, but you showed up when we were just about done for the day. Shame that, but maybe we can give you a little bit of a taste, eh?”

Kyo just waves him off. “Ken was showing us something that was recently developed called Deep Training- it’s kinda like putting yourself in the place of a bot right out on the field! Crazy, huh?”

“O-oh. That’s...impressive.” Small world. “How does it work?”

“It’s kind of like a virtual reality simulation. You pick a simulated bot, and then go into a mock battle with ‘em, but you’re looking out their eyes! and after the fight, there's a whole bunch of data that shows the possible moves you could have made and all sorts of angles of attack and rate of fire and a whole bunch of crazy stuff!” Geez, he sounds excited.

“It’s really cool,” Tooru adds. “Especially ‘cause they can program and play out hypothetical scenarios, too. That’s what we’ve been doing, mostly.” He flicks his eyes to his compatriots. “Y’know, for the tournament.”

Suuure. “Right, that…”

“Y’know, thinking about it, there’s still a half hour before we close,” Ken says. “It’ll be cutting it close, but I could at least show you how the sim training looks, if you want! It’s the best of the best, top of the line, I’m telling you! You might’ve ditched the tourney, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still get in some good training!”

>Well...I guess a quick peek couldn’t hurt, if it’s as good as you say.
>Actually, I was hoping to train with Kyo and Tooru, but...

You decide to play coy with this one; he strikes you as the type who responds well to a little buttering up and fluttered eyelashes. “You would show me? That’s so sweet!”

“Aha! Anytime!” He puffs his chest out, and you give a demure smile as you hear a brief snort come from the direction of the desk worker. Kyo just chuckles, and Tooru makes an...odd face, before shrugging.

“How in-depth can you go?” you ask. Who knows, the thing might be useful...and if not, you
could at least use the time to sweet talk him a bit and see if you can’t make him any useful. “You did say that it was near closing time…”

“Aw, you don't need to worry about that! we should be done just as closing time hits, and Nattie’s great with that.” He gestures over to the desk worker- Nattie- and you notice she’s gone from apathy to clearly giving you the stink-eye. Not that Ken notices. “Follow me!”

He takes you down the hall in into one of the side rooms, and to your surprise it's not as big as you were expecting. it's a simple, clean room with a table in the center of it that seems to be some sort of miniature representation of an actual arena. On either side is a small podium with a digital interface on it. “Just pick your bot type using those,” he points out. “Then put on the goggles that are hanging on the side.”

“So, why not spar in real life, again?” you find yourself asking.

“Well, we could, but it might take too long right now,” he answers easily. “And besides, ‘cause sometimes, bots can get damaged real bad. This way we can test out strategies and figure out our approach with new bots all we want, an’ see if they could work before we take them into a real fight!” Makes sense enough. Out of the two bots you have, though, you pick...

>Jago
>Prima

Before you put the goggles on...and just as advertised, you find yourself in a fairly familiar position- looking through the bot’s eyes.

“Just give ‘em voice commands like normal, and you’ll get your results at the end of the fight,” you hear Ken say as the simulated battle starts.

While you haven't seen through Jago’s eyes personally, yet, it's still a familiar position for you and you're able to pretty quickly adjust to the first person view point of his style of movements. Notably, this version doesn't have the hook hand that yours has, but it's good enough to at least play his defensive and reactive style as normal. Ken is using some sort of...well, it’s a new one to you, reminds you of a knight but with two swords coming out of his forearms and with very little armor. Maybe an Exor variant? Either way, its bright red and white coloring is flashy, but its battle prowess needs work.

His style is incredibly aggressive, but very simple and straightforward. You can see something of the logic in it; an overwhelming offense meant to prevent anyone from actually mounting any defense or evasive maneuvers. Unfortunately you've seen that both in your personal life and already in combat here enough to see it coming. He sticks to parallel and perpendicular lines of attack, and hardly thinks to use any sweeping or circular techniques with his blades; and it's merely a matter of weathering the storm until he tries to maneuver to a different angle when you hit him with (Simulated) Jago’s powerful fists. There’s a number of exchanges similar to that, and find your simbot taking a few scratches, but sooner than later you find the exercise over with, managing to surprise him by predicting a turn and catching him in your right hand. It was over pretty quickly after that.

Interestingly, when you remove your goggles, Ken...looks like he's trying very hard to not be angry. “W-well, look at that!” he says, his voice clipped. “Guess you really are good. Cool. That’s cool.” His smile is frozen as all get-out, and you’re sure that he be throwing a tantrum if you didn't have an audience. “Didn’t think Kyo would have friends like that, especially considering what that rich girl was talkin’ about when she-”

“Uh, Ken?!” Kyo interrupts quickly. “We should be going, right?!”

“Yeah, man!” Tooru says quickly. “You know, we need to get home, you need to get home…”

Oh, pft. Nice try at deflection. But, that does bring a choice to mind. You can probably question one of these...fine boys about a few things, if you care to.

Thinking about it , you're not quite sure which to pick- and then it hits you. I plan that could make the choice for you and make the follow-up infinitely easier. An old standby that you hadn't really broken out all that often but was always pretty reliable.

Good ol-fashioned crocodile tears.

You immediately turn on the start of the waterworks, and it already begins to have the desired effect as the boys real back and worry. “D-did Ms. Aiba speak badly a-about meeeeee?”

They barely get a ‘uh, no-not like-!’ before you burst out crying, gushes and gushes of tears falling down as you flee the scene like the most distressed damsel that ever lived- you got enough mental clarity to hear Jago running behind you, expressing his worry. And then not long behind them, hurried footsteps.

Perrrrrfect.

You barely get down the street, slowing down intentionally let them all catch up with you- and catch up with you they do, quickly trying to console you. Tooru’s the first to reach you, however. “Wait, w-waitwaitwait! Himawari, it's not like that, I promise!”

“B-but whhhhyyy, Tooruuu?” you tearfully ask. “I-i-i was just trying to be niiiice!”

“And you were! You’re one of the sweetest girls I know, I promise!” And HE’S one of the most gullible, but hey. “But there’s just...this thing we were asked to do, is all…”

“W-what thing?” you ask carefully, masking your interest. However, that’s when the other two speak up.

“Wait, do you really think we should tell her?” Kyo asks concernedly.

Ken shrugs. “Eh, the silver spoon wanted it hush hush, buuuuut…frankly, I don’t care as much. Not like it’ll do anything so long as she keeps her mouth shut.”

You pretend to lean back a bit in shock. “H-huh? What’s going on?”

Kyo sighs as Tooru puts an arm around you. “Come on,” he says carefully. “We should go somewhere private for this…”

Finally…

cont. (Man, a 20. Seriously.)

>>2430996
“You mean the because of the thefts?” you ask as Tooru, Kyo, Ken, and yourself (along with your bots) convene in the alleyway- it’s quiet at this time of day, and this one is actually pretty clean, serving more as a bit of a side street than anything else.

“Yeah,” Kyo confirms seriously. “Miyumi’s been livid ever since that first theft- she says she thinks that the rampaging bot was meant to be a distraction while the thief got away. All they got were images of a yellow suited character- but most of the cameras were down or they were good enough to avoid being spotted on them for anything else.”

You affect an air of shock at the news (although honestly, you inwardly can't help but preen a little bit). “How scary…”

“Yeah,” Tooru agrees. “Worse thing is, they’re not sure how it happened- although they’re pretty sure the thief has a bot accomplice. They’ve been trying to read the Gargant’s memory databanks for a while- they’ve gotten a few things, but it’s all super scrambled and we don’t know what they do and don’t have. And then there’s the second theft…”

“Apparently, whoever the thief was took several shots to the body- both by anti-bot and normal weapons. And they were still standing, and pulled off a jump no one should be able to do.” Ken shakes his head. “No one knows how. But the fact that they were able to do that? She’s thinking they aren’t human. So she’s getting a bunch of the best battlers she knows in private to do guard duty until the Ahru Torso is complete. They’ve still got the blueprint data and all that for the other parts, so they can remake those- but that's not the worry.”

“We’re worried that someone’s planning on using those parts for somethin’ bad.” Kyo interjects. “And she wants us to keep an eye on things for a couple days to make sure.”

“Aiba Corp stock is already tankin’,” Ken says, with just a hint of smugness. “This goes on any long, rich girl won’t be so rich before long.”

Right, but notice the tournament theft is referred to as the first, and the smash and grab as the second. References to a complete bot would imply we know other limbs have been stolen. There's also no mention of /what/ was taken in the two thefts they are telling us about.

All Himawari knows about the thefts is that there were two of them, during which some bot parts were stolen, and there's a fear the torso is the next target.

We should get them an engineering bay down the line. That way we could begin to sell our own products instead of buying them.
>>
>>2431184
Need the motes first anon. So firstly let's get this job done (while also taking the gargant core with us as well as Prima and Jago too!!)

We could even make the Gargant core our resident A.I. since it was always programmed for protect and defense what better role then becoming a entire base defense system?!
>>
>>2431201
yeah, that's why i said we should do it down the line. we still have a lot of things to do to the base, like the barracks, training grounds and whatnot.

maybe? we shouldn't really expect any kind of intrusion, since the dealmakers would get pissed, but maybe we could copy Prima's AI and use that to manage all the little things and stuff.

“Oh my. That all sounds...really scary. Is there any way I can help?” You ask, putting a bit of urgency into your voice. “I...perhaps she was a bit mean, but we can’t let a thief ruin Ms. Aiba like that!”

“Yeah, we agree,” Ken says. “And you’re pretty good- so we might be able to put in a word in for you, if you want.”

“Thank you so much!” you offer. “Just...I wonder who would want to do something like that?”

“There’s a bunch of rival minibot developers out there,” Tooru points out. “Maybe one of them, or maybe someone working solo that just has a really big ego or something. Who knows? But no matter who it is or why, we can't let it keep happening!”

“And we won’t!” Kyo says confidently. “We’ll talk to Miyumi about letting you help out. In the meantime, don't let anyone know about this or us. The torso’s undergoing some final testing to make sure that it's ready before the next tournament- we’re going to be protecting it all the way up until then. We figured that since the thief has struck at two tournaments so far, they'll wait for the third, too, to have the highest chance of escape. Trick is- well, we’ll tell you more later.” He sounds confident.

He’s not entirely wrong about that tactic…although wait- didn’t Mr. King say that they decided to cancel the third showing? Hm. Curious. “Right!” you say, affecting a determined air. “I’ll try to see maybe if I can’t do some searching! Ahaha!” You let out an embarrassed laugh. “I’m sorry, but as serious as the situation is, I can't help but feel excited!”

“Heh, I kinda get what you mean,” Ken admits. “So don’t worry. You just stick around, and we’ll get you onboard.”

“Right! We’ll protect every part left!” you proclaim. Of course, that was an intentional smith. now you just need to see if they take the bait…

And they do. “Every part left?” Tooru asks. “Aha, she just said the torso, Hima…”

“Oh!” You tilt your head. “Is it just the one? That’s strange, but if you say so! We’ll protect it!”

“Right!” They all agree, but- at least in Tooru and Ken, a bit- you can see a curiosity blooming in their expressions.

The meeting is adjourned after that, and you all head your separate ways after giving Ken (and the others, after you realize you never did) your contact info. It wasn’t anything obviously linked to King, so it should be safe…

Later that night, you get a message from Kyo. ‘Miyumi says she isn’t sure. :( Doesn’t mind you doing research, though. Will try to work on her more.’

Well, nuts. So much for your easy in. But today...yeah.

Today was still a good day.

>Day 3: Goals

As you hop up out of bed, you’re quick to greet Prima, who waves back, and Jago, who nods. They DO rest mode in the same room, after all. After breakfast, however, you’re called to Mr. King’s office, and after you’re fully (and opulently) dressed, you make your way up there, and snap off a salute as you sit.

“Well?” he says roughly. “As I told you several days ago, I am not entirely a patient man. Are you well enough now?”

Well...you ARE feeling better, but you’d hoped for today to be more of a scouting day than anything...but he IS the one paying...ugggh.

My guess is that Mr.King had some kind of influence in the tournament. Since he was once a competitor in it. So this is a way that the Aiba girl found to figure out if anyone in the council was working with the thief.
>>
Wait a minute.

>So she’s getting a bunch of the best battlers she knows in private to do guard duty until the Ahru Torso is complete.

Does this mean that the Torso isn’t fully built yet? Shouldn’t we wait until the thing is put together before trying to steal it?

i think that's what we are trying to imply to Mr. King

Yes it does. Unless our boss thinks his engineers are better then Aiba corps and will be able to fix the kinks in the machine without having to copy the complete desing.

>Shouldn’t we wait until the thing is put together before trying to steal it?

Yes we should. But as our client is a megalomaniac he migth see it as the perfect chance to turn the torso into HIS own
>>

They said it's undergoing final testing. Sounds like it's built and they're just checking for last minute kinks to fix.

I mean i believe we should wait. But i kinda want to go there and 'rescue' the gargant core. Because if we wait u til the tournament they might manage to decript the information in it.

Ruuuuuuuuuude. Good thing you have a mask on so he can't see the face that you're making. It’s a really really sour one. But...contraaaaact. Blegh.

“Your concernedness is noted- and perhaps founded, from what I’m aware of,” you admit. “However, the other day I managed to come across some interesting information about the torso. Namely, that it seems to still be in the last phases of testing, and that they seem to be attempting some sort of trickery for the next tournament. However, should you still desire, I shall proceed posthaste!”

“Hmmm…” He takes that news with a bit of a grimace and leans back in his chair as he considers the news. “Perhaps...no. Actually, this may be a boon; if they are trying to attempt some sort of stunts for the next tournament, then going in even earlier than they expect will be all the better. Besides, should it not be complete, I have every confidence that my engineers will be more than capable finishing whatever they've started.

“Then perhaps you should know that I may well be on my way to gaining access to their security forces with a bit more time, as well?” you offer.

This seems to catch his attention as he sits upright. “Come again? However did you manage that?”

“Carefully, and with DRAMATIC crying!” Oh, you missed being able to pose. “I swept into their discussion, wheedling out their secrets with rivers of tears and a harrowed throat! They were helpless against my MAGNIFICENT ACTING TALENT!” Oh, you’re on the chair. When did that happen? Eh, doesn’t matter, you look cool anyway.

“...ah.” Ah? What ‘ah’? “...Still, despite that impressive accomplishment, the fact that you would be on their security forces honestly concerns me just a touch. It means that although you might be able to access certain areas, I have no doubt that you will also be watched closely for compliance with the rules…” He thinks about it, but shakes his head. “No. Go as soon as you can, tonight or today. I care not, but it shall be done before tomorrow morning!”

Hmph. Yet again. Buzzkill. Well, fine, time to figure out your approach...although your connections might yet not go to waste.

Step one: getting in. How are you going to do that?

>(Will continue in an hour. Need food and a breather. Use the time to begin to plan!)
>>
>>2431451
I got an idea. What if we go to talk with that aiba girl and interrogate her? We could tell kyo that we want to talk with her because we might be able to convince her if we talk face to face. We get close to her, we force the information out of her mind and some other stuff, like getting her ID, the location of the torso, what are the security codes, where the gragant core is, you know, stuff like that. AND THEN we erase her mind and go with the heist in the middle of the night (like 3 AM, where the guards are the most sleepy.)
>>
>>2431451
Well I'm stumped... Assuming the torso is in the center area of that map? I really have no idea other than brute forcing it, but 1) Lorelei isn't good at that, and 2) That'll make it VERY difficult since they dont mind murdering us, but we cant murder back...

Btw, are there more steps to our contract than stealing the pieces? I forget. If stealing this torso is the last step, then it's not important whether we keep reveal ourselves partway through the heist, should it somehow be helpful.

>2431471
Night heist sounds like a good idea, people will be slower to repsond, taskforce of teenagers might not be nearby to respond at the time.
>>
>>2431451
Ways of getting inside:

-Jump high enough so we can get to the rooftop. Or just grappling hook from one building to the officer top floor.

or

- Enter with the people taking out the trash. Use our ability to disguise as one of then then knock out a guard and grab his ID CARD.
>>
>>2431477
Maybe knock out some security lady and steal her look, see if we can sneak up to one of the entrances, force through door and make everything quick from there? Idk...
>>
>>2431451
Could Prima work out where the cameras have blind spots?

We could potentially jump the wall then jump to the roof, then use a magibeam to cut our way into the building through the roof.
>>
>>2431477
We can enter with the people taking the garbage out. Nobody ever notice the cleaning crew. Grab either a security Id or someone of the cleaning id and get in using it.
>>
>>2431491
That's Miranda Lori has fireworks not magic beams. Unless you want to try do something out of the blue.
>>
>>2431486
Need to get in first. Unless you want us to attack some random security person.
>>
ok, lets lay down the available options.

Without any kind of thinking and preparation, we can do this.
>1) Go trough the front door.
>2) Go trough the back door
>3) Jump trough the roof and do a Kool Aid man impression

With the information we gathered yesterday we could to this
>1) join Miyumi's security forces
>2) enter as some kind of worker
>3) get close to Miyumi and squeeze the information out of her.
>4) Outright lie to the guards and tell them Miyumi wanted us to help guard the torso

Am i missing something?
>>
>Could Prima work out where the cameras have blind spots?

That's kinda her stick she is a support bot and our walking hacking tool. So she could possibly invade the system and try to shut it down. However she only did it with a house security alarm once tell how advance the office alarm system will be.
>>
>>2431514
if we just tap the feed and don't do anything but just see, we should be able to go undetected.
>>
>>2431451
This is going to be hard. Lori is a social infiltrator, not a general one. After our last heist security is going to be through the roof.

I assume there will be cameras around the entire exterior. Prima will again be invaluable in disabling or finding gaps, though it should be easy to jump over the fence once we get an opening. Considering our show of strength and resilience, I suspect any physical security will be heavily armed and armored. Ideally, we should try to snag a card, but that'll be reliant on who's where. We don't really have enough info to plan from there.

We've still got almost the entire day; I figure we spend a few hours on recon, watching for important people (id cards), guard routines, cameras, etc. That'll give us much more to work with.
>>
>>2431510
>5)Said we found something about the thief so we came to the office tot alk to Mayumi since we don't know were she lives.
>>
>>2431526
Lets try to convince Aiba to let us into her security detail. That alone would make things INCREDIBLY easier because we would be in the inside of the complex.

>>2431535
We could also do something like that! The more things we can bypass, the more time it gives us to steal everything we want.

">"Thanks for letting me in the middle of the night Miyumi. I know who the Thief is!"
>"Yes?! Who is it?"
>"Its me!"
>>
>>2431548
We can give it a try, but we can't push too hard.
I dunno if she'd put on today's detail either, which doesn't work. And being on the security team only gets our foot in the door, only part way in; they could stick us on perimeter patrol, a reasonable, low-risk option for volunteer security.

Also, don't forget we've got to get /back out/ with the part, break contact with any pursuers, and make it back to king's place. Making too much noise on the way in will make getting back out considerably more difficult.
>>
>>2431579
>Making too much noise on the way in will make getting back out considerably more difficult.
That's why i want to try all the options regarding Miyumi before we go for a good old fashioned break in. Even if they get us in perimeter guard, its one security layer that we managed to pass.

>Also, don't forget we've got to get /back out/ with the part, break contact with any pursuers, and make it back to king's place

You raise a good point. What is our exit plan?
>>
So it sounds like the two biggest options are:

>Try to talk with Miyumi and get into the security forces regardless.
>Try to stake out the area for further info for several hours.

Unless I'm missing one.

You take a few minutes to think about it, smacking on a bag of fruit snacks as you do. You're pretty certain that despite his misgivings, getting into the complex with Miyumi’s permission is probably the best way to go about it; a layer of security that you don't have to deal with either coming in or going out could mean the difference between success and failure in a heist. You'll have to be careful as to how you word it so she doesn’t get ornery, but at the same time you'll have to be convincing if you want her to include you so quickly. If nothing else, you DO still have Kyo and Ken going to bat for you. In fact... Might be a good idea to fire off a quick text to see if they can't help on that front.

‘Good morning! Have you been able to convince Ms. Aiba?’

The answer comes after a few minutes. ‘Hey not yet. Was gonna meet her in an hour. Trying again then.’

Huh. In person? Interesting. ‘Where?’

‘Please, thank you!’ you respond. He just sends back a :), and you're set to wait again.

A few more minutes and another bag, and you get another response: ‘Says okay, will be at ice cream shop here:’ and there's an address for you. Thank goodness.

“C’mon, Jago!” you say getting up (and nearly knocking Prima away with your suddenness). “We have a meeting to prep for!”

“Oy! Stop bein’ so sudden, lass! Swears it, I…” his complaints devolve into grumbling as he follows you. A quick change of clothes, and you’re off!

There's nothing really notable about the ice cream place, which you suppose is kind of the point. It's a perfectly nondescript, simple store with an ice cream sign above it. You end up occupying yourself with a double scoop Vanilla/Strawberry combination before you see the three boys show up, waving once they spot you. “Hey, glad you made it!”

“Me too!” you joke. “I’m guessing she should be here soon, right?”

Before any of you can answer that, you all notice a smallish figure in a very long overcoat and a wide-brimmed hat and glasses walk up to you. It's...actually a bit conspicuous, but none of you say anything as she nods to you all and sits down. “Well. If it isn’t the squeamish girl.” She says by way of greeting. “I suppose I should be thankful you’ve seen it in you to help me, but I can’t help but be a bit cautious.”

“Some greeting…” Ken mutters as the trio sits down.

“Ah, apologies, Ken. Kyo. Tooru,” she greets them all in turn. “It’s good to see you.”

“Yeah, nice to see you, too.” Kyo nods. “But I think Himawari really means it when she says she wants to help.”

“As soon as I can, too!” you confirm, nodding your head rapidly. “I...I know things might get dangerous, but that doesn't mean I can just sit by and let this kind of thing happen!”

She fixes you with a stare that emanates concern. “Hmph. You weren’t there during the last robbery. I haven’t told any of you, but...you’re aware, presumably, that this person- if it IS such- is very well armored. We can’t take chances.”

“No kiddin’,” Ken agrees. “But frankly, that just makes me think she should come along even more. Can't afford to not have as many eyes out as possible.” Tooru and Kyo both nod their agreement.

“She’s pretty quick on the uptake,” Tooru adds. “I’m pretty sure she’d be great.

“She knows how to overcome courage, too!” Kyo chimes in. “Don’t you think you’d need people like that in order to stop someone like this?”

“Mmmm…” Miyumi simply mulls it over, to your nerves’ misfortune. At last, however, she takes off her glasses and fixes you a look. “I can’t get you permission for any of the more guarded areas so soon... But perhaps you would be a reasonable enough perimeter watch.”

cont.
>>
>>2431925
“Perimeter watch?” You echo. Sounds like you’d- be kept outside…

“Yes,” she confirms. “Basically, you be working alongside the gate guards to make sure that no one gets in or out without permission. You wouldn't have any real authority, but we could get you a temporary badge to allow limited access, and if you spot anything suspicious, you would need to radio it in immediately, understood? You'll also need to check in with the gate watch multiple times a night. Fair?”

"Of course!" Score!

She leans back. “I have to emphasize that Aiba Corporation are partners with Ahruha, so anything YOU do reflects back on ME. Understand?” she asks acidly, and you quickly nod. “Good. Now, IF you’re interested, I’d at least be willing to allow you choice of where you’ll be stationed. North, South, East, or West ends of the complex. The North End is the rear exit, so you know.”

Hmm…

before we disappear, we make some tracks that show that himawari was dragged outside the complex, This would alert the people, giving them the idea that the attacker was about to strike and maybe would close down the complex, but by that point we should already be inside. And with the building closed down, we could have an easier time beating down everyone and having no fear of reinforcements.

That would absolutely light a fire under team protag. It won't really matter for us, as we're leaving shortly after, but it might make the escape harder, and could cause problems for King if they eventually trace the thefts back to him.

Personally, I'd prefer Himawari "get on a bus" due to a family emergency or something, but we don't tend to stick around long after we finish jobs, so I doubt it'll happen.
If we wanted to troll team protag, we could meet with them one last time after this job, and return to the Intersection at the end of the conversation.
>>
>>2432055
>could cause problems for King if they eventually trace the thefts back to him.
That's not really our problem, since he is going to manufacture them. Sooner or later Aiba corp would knew that he had something to do on the thefts.

If we could do also pic related, it would be glorious.
>>
>>2432072
>Sooner or later Aiba corp would knew that he had something to do on the thefts.
That was my point. If the thefts are connected to a kidnapping, it would generate a lot more trouble for King than just a string of thefts. Granted, this isn't the sort of thing Lori would worry about, but King seems like a potential repeat customer, and it's not really a great idea to cause unneeded trouble for clients, potential repeats or not.

Well, from what you were called, the north and had a number of things that could work with or against you, besides the cameras. The dumpsters were all on the north end, and there was a gate as well as a back entrance that were both ID-only. There were a number of cameras back there as well, and those would be hard to deal with, but considering that you could most likely easily leap the gate if you'd managed to get out of the back quickly enough, the idea of an easy egress from the complex is pretty tempting. “I’ll take the North end, then.” you decide.

Miyumi purses her lips, but doesn’t object. “Fine. I'll send word ahead and tell them to prepare a temporary badge for you. Be there at 5 PM SHARP, understood?” You nod. “Good. Now, as for other business…you should know that we’ve, of course, been looking into this mysterious case of the rogue Gargant.” She looks as you questioningly, and you- and they- nod. “Good, then you should know that we’ve gotten a bit of information out of it, although nothing concrete.”

...ffuuuuuuck.

She slides over a tablet with an image on it. It's a fuzzy, somewhat corrupted image, a blur of pink in a grey background- Prima, you can tell, but it’s just messed up enough so that you're not sure if the others can recognize the make and model of bot. “We believe that this was the perpetrator’s associate Minibot- this combined with the eyewitness accounts and the timeline of events would match up with when this image was taken. As far as we can presume, the Gargant was hacked and infected with a virus; we’re unsure how, but smart money says that it’s due to this with a modified AI and technique system. An ILLEGAL one,” she notes.

“Illegal? So whoever’s doing this is probably a bigshot criminal,” Ken mutters.

“Perhaps,” Miyumi agrees. “Being able to access such deep subroutines and programs within another minibot is, after all, illegal.”

Tooru leans closer, as though getting a better look would clear up the image. “So, what happened exactly? Do you know?”

“It was accessed remotely, and an unidentifiable program seemed to force its way in and take control for some time,” she explains. “We’re doing what we can to restore the image, but this is the best we have for now. Unfortunately, as you can see, the image is...nondescript. Still, it DOES mean we can narrow down the class, make and model a bit. Shorter model, and there’s no distinct weaponry, meaning likely a support-class bot.” She doesn't elaborate on that, simply taking the image back.

“Hmm. I’ll put out a call to the guys and have them keep an eye out,” Ken offers. “Not gonna say nothin' specific, but we all want that thief caught.”

“Glad you brought this up,” Kyo says, suddenly all serious. “‘Cause I gota admit something. I told my granddad about this.”

What.

“What?!” Miyumi roars- and her feet tap out a couple of beats. “Why would-”

“Because he got robbed, too!” Kyo says heatedly. “And he saw the thief!”

cont.
>>
>>2432104
The entire table goes still. “Come again?” Miyumi asks.

He nods. “Yeah. And it was the same person. He wasn't sure at first, but I showed him an image, and he was absolutely positive then. Whoever it is...they want rare parts, and bad.”

“Oh, dear…” Miyumi facepalms. “Wonderful.”

“Well, there IS some good news,” he offers. “If that’s the case, Zero kinda knows what the thief’s bot might look like!”

“Oh!?” And here her head perks up.

Not good, not good…

This isn't good, but it doesn't actually matter that much. This heist is different from the others, as it's a straight theft from a hardened point rather than a softer target in a crowded area. It won't matter if they know what she looks like if they don't know where she is until the theft begins.

As much as you want to say something if only out of reaction, you decide to let them keep talking. You need to know exactly how much they know in order to make sure whether you need to do something about it or not, considering your change of Prima’s shell.

“So, basically, he said that it was feminine, short, and yeah, it looked like it had a bow and a skirt and stuff. Pinkish, like you said. Didn't have any long-range capabilities, he said it kept trying to slash at him with claws” Kyo explains. “It was kinda fast, but it was kinda weak, too. He eventually caught off guard and was able to take an arm off of it and throw it against the wall.”

“Hmm...yes, sound like a Support-class, or perhaps a Speedster.” Miyumi says. “The state of slashing claws drops it further. I’ll have to do a bit of research, but that‘ll narrow the possibilities down exponentially. We’ll look up some possible matches when I get back. In the meantime, if no one else has any further business?”

“Just making sure that we’ll all be set for later today,” Ken shrugs.

“Remember- whomever, or whatever this is, they have superhuman endurance and abilities. don't underestimate them, nor let your bots underestimate them.” She levels a pointed look- not at you, but at Kyo, and Zero, who’s right behind him.

“Feh,” Zero scoffs. “Don’t worry- we got this! With all of us handling it? That thief’s got NO chance!”

You make certain to not meet his eyes directly, but those peepers of his are far too large to not get a good look at regardless.

His pupils are light, but there, as well. A quick glance over at Moxer, who’s just sitting silently.

No pupils.

Iiiinteresting.

But with that, the meeting’s adjourned, and the lot of you part ways, Kyo insisting he and Tooru needed to find Nia, and Ken heading off on a walk of his own.

You needed to get back, too.

“Five o’clock, huh, lass?” Jago says idly.

“Yup! On the dot.” You confirm.

That’s when everything starts.

If miranda's mana condenser can fit there, so can prima.

>And?

>And...it asked us why were we doing this?

>Yeah. And when we stated our reasoning, it said...it said it didn't like that and wanted to be put back in its own body. We, uh...we said no. Then the station shut off. By itself.

Heh.

By the way, we're awakening Jago before we leave as well, right? Unless we're taking him with us, then we'll need to take a closer look at Intersection property and intelligent beings' rights laws.
>>
On the upcoming heist, we need some excuse on why Himawari is gone missing or something that doesn't quickly be concluded that she's the theif.
How about "Shatterlight murdered/assulted Himawari"?
>Put red paint/someone else's blood on a small part of the outfit and tear a piece of it
>when we go for the heist we leave that near our post and spread red paint around to look like Himawari struggled to stop Shatterlight( while Prima screws with the cameras)
>if we're caught and they ask us about Himawari we can subtly say we hurt her and dumped her body somewhere and if this causes our MC group to be really pissed off we can just use our magic to fuck off. Spam fireworks, me's a crowd and magic limbs.
It's risky( and stupid) but I think it gives a way to put Himawari in a permanent bus and won't make the MC think we're the thief. Unless you guys want to do the reveal thing (both options are good for me)

we should awaken him on the intersection. remember how prima was after we awoken her? even if we won't need him for the mission, we need him at top capacity.

>the size of the entry, not the internal size.
Prima seems kind of petitte. She should be able to fit.

>>2432446
I was thinking on that, make is seem like shatterlight kidnapped/murdered himawari. That should put the team on disarray when they find out, and by the time the alarms go off, we should be inside, about to steal the parts (and the gragant core).

>>2432426
also, guys. THE GRAGANT SHOT DOWN ALL THE SYSTEMS. Imagine what prima can do! We need to check her abilities post awakening asap!
>>
>>2432446
Well this is a time to use all of our power. I say we use illusions and make a army of me using various illusional Shatterlight to scatter and spread the security toward a direction we want then to.
>>
>>2432446
Something 'happening' to Himawari technically leaves her reputation intact, but risks the client's. The reveal is a little silly, but it solves their mystery but simultaneously deprives them of the ability to do anything about it. Only downside is if we came back here for another job at some point, we'll already have enemies, though if Himawari reappeared after disappearing there would be many questions anyway.

>>2432472
>THE GRAGANT SHOT DOWN ALL THE SYSTEMS
That's what happening when you plug an AI into a system; physical access == full access.

>>2432492
>Well this is a time to use all of our power.
I figure we don't go below ~500 mana in case of emergencies and so we don't pass out, and it gives a little wiggle room if we discover the head does exist during the heist. There's no reason not to use the mana crystals to top up, but we should try to float enough internal mana in case we don't have time to use a crystal.
Otherwise though, sure, let's go hog wild.
>>
>>2432540
>That's what happening when you plug an AI into a system; physical access == full access.
But the context implies that the cores shouldn't be capable of doing so. Specially a core that is designed for defense.
>>
>>2432552
Yeah, ai doesn't mean magically instantly able to be able to do anything. Maybe they werent surprised that it could, just that it did so without being instructed to.
>>
>>2432552
Ah, but the fact that it was an isolated system hints this wasn't an impossibility. Why go to the trouble of using an isolated system otherwise?
Their reactions do show how abnormal it is though. This is clearly unexpected behavior, though I suspect they're reacting more to the /choice/ of action, rather than the action itself.
>physical access == full access.
This is considered truth IRL in information security. If someone have physical access to a device, it should be considered compromised.

>>2432619
AIs are far from magic, but the digital is their native domain. Expect them to be able to do things with ease in the digital domain humans couldn't.

As a side note, regardless of what we do with Prima or Jago, when we get back to the Intersection, we should have a chat with the mechanical community. This is the sort of thing they may have some interesting insights into.
>>
I mean if shatterlight's identity gets revealed when we got the torso I don't think it would matter by then.
>>
>>2432669
Claiming
>considered compromised
is the same as full access is disingenuous and entirely unhelpful as a response to the original suggestion.
>>
>>2432669
i'm assuming the isolated system was in order to deal with the corruption the gragant had. It seems like they were trying to see the files from the gragant itself, and since it seemed way too hard, they moved the core to the closed system, because if you have a new virus appear from nowhere, you don't want to deal with it in something that has a connection to everything else.
>>
>>2432707
But it basically is. It means that whatever the infiltrator wanted to do was done. For example you can gain root access on a linux machine in a minute if you know the commands and are there physically.
>>2432552
I think it's more like the AI pressed the off switch and they weren't expecting that because no other AI has done that, not because it couldn't. Think program vs the AI.
>>
So, himawari will be 'removed' after this act? Also, things might go weird if they figure out it was paint instead of real blood, assuming if we ARE going to use paint.
>>
Reminder that paint smells like paint and not like blood. If we want to fake our own death we would have to use actual people blood. That is assuming of course our clones don't bleed because if they do then we can do it like that (Disregarding for a second how ethical killing your own close is or not).
That said if we want to be "nice" we'd do the kidnapping thing with our clone which lowers the shit Miyumi would be in because she hired the thief and then if we want to be extra nice to prevent -some- mental trauma we'd do >>2432072
Including the laughing bit.
Personally I think it'd be hilarious for the reactions we'd get.
>>
I am for faking being assaulted, more audio cue though.
We can use this to make them run to our post, while we enter the building.
From there we have every oppertunity.
The reveal, the "I don't remember what happened", or the classic "... and was never heard of again".

To speak in a show's terms...
Either make a shoking reveal so everyone can meme about it...
Make the people who weaponize their autism find out about it and propose those theories online...
Or have the unknown factor in, with the same as above, but more questions.
>>
>>2432540
>That's what happening when you plug an AI into a system; physical access == full access.
So is this a hint that we should jam prima into a console at the facility?

How do you want to hurt himawari? Clones disappear in 5 minutes, and if we are her then we have to get away and change outfit.
If we patrol with someone else I suppose just beat up their bot and make them witness a kidnapping or see hima run off after the thief. We'd have a reliable witness that they won't question the motives off until after the heist.
Do it in front of a camera for bonus points
>>
About faking being assaulted we could just ghost our way inside the place after blaring a alarm about seing someone. Make our body stay fainted and create illusion clones of Shatterligth moving inaide the building.
>>
>>2433563
We have to get in and out in 5 minutes. After that we'd have to hide the torso somewhere we can pick it up later, we can't exactly just stuff it into himawaris bag.

Letting our body lie unconscious is gonna make the getaway very difficult.

On the other hand, we can spawn the clones inside the compound. Do that, and attack hima during the escape and kidnap us. Once out of sight we can bloody ourselves, make an explosion for effect and stuff the part in the magic bag. With mana to spare we can then ghost outside to make it look like we are unconscious and we keep it up for as long as possible.
We just need to send Jago flying to give him plausible deniability.

You decide - after getting lunch and making sure that you had both of your bots clued in on what was going down - to get a last bit of practice in. Although that does bring to mind something - the fact that you're not entirely full up on mana. You'd have to be a bit more careful, in that case...then again, that is what you have those crystals for…

>>2433519
guys, if you want fake blood, you can go to a butcher. The blood doesn't have to be from a person, it just has to be blood.

...Yeah, no, better to use them now and make sure you are at your best rather than go in under strength. It takes only a few minutes to absorb all the latent mana - if only because they're honestly kind of the most potent source that you have right now.

>Current Mana: 7500/7500

>3 Mana Crystals Remaining.

But now comes something slightly more concerning. Jago will be expected, and that's fine. But how to get Prima inside?

...Ah. Well. There might be one way…

---------------

Those pauldrons are big, after all. Prima simply stares down into the oddly inky blackness of nothing that make up the inside. Leaning down as though to take a closer look, she looks back up with an expression of concern (and possibly judging your sanity). “Er, Miss Himawari, I don’t think that...well, I'm not so certain that I would fit inside…”

You have to admit, it seems like it would be a tight fit, at the very least. “I...think you should be able to climb in? Just put one foot in at a time, or something, and you should be able to squeeze inside.” Like, no, they were pretty darn big, and the hatches at the very least we're big enough to get a foot in, you think. If she was careful… “There’s more space in there then it looks like, trust me.”

Either way, she still looks skeptical. “If...how am I to get out?”

“I’ll yank you out.” You really wish the bag of holding was just an oversized purse or something... That would be a whole lot easier to deal with than this. Ugh, you hope you can get your duffle bag inside without getting it checked...

“If you...er, say so.” She concedes. “I trust you, Miss Himawari.” And with that decided, she tenderly dips a foot in the inky void- and suddenly tilt over with a yelp, clearly expecting to hit ground a lot sooner than she did- “O-oh dear oh gracious h-help me-EEEEEEEEEEEeeeee…” - and briefly getting her shell stuck before slipping through, after some inadvertent wiggling.

...She’ll be fine. You’re PRETTY sure there’s no ground in there. “JUST GRAB MY HAND WHEN IT SHOWS UP, OR SOMETHING!” you yell down.

“...okaaaayyyy…” comes a far off sound- but at least it doesn't sound like it's getting much further away. “...may I ask what the firearms are for?”

You grunt. “Nothing here, honestly. Just sit back and relax for a while, Pri. I’ll get you later.”

“Yes, miss himawari!” A click, and the latch is shut. Breathing a brief sigh of relief, you pack everything in your bag, hoist it up. Look at Jago.

“Be interestin’ ta not hear her talking about everythin’ for a time!” Yup, Jago’s good to go. Time to do this thing.

“Since you’re going to be rear guard, what you need to know about is that nobody should be getting through that gate right there,” the guide says as he points to the back entrance. “Everyone that should’ve left by now already has. If the thief comes...well, we’d prefer if you radio that's before you did anything stupid, good battler or not. Any last questions?”

i think i have a somewhat half assed plan right now. In one of our breaks we go to the bathroom, check if there are some air ducts or something similar. Then we leave prima there so she can begin passively infiltrating the systems, like checking the cameras, looking around to see where everything is and stuff. she shouldn't do anything that would compromise her until close to 11, when they'll kick us out.
Just when they tell us to go home, we tell them that we nee to use the bathroom to refresh ourselves, and then in the bathroom we Use Me's a Crowd. The clone and Jago leave (we should tell jago where to wait for us, or to go with King) and we are left inside to steal the pieces.

Do you like the plan?

Okay so I have the beginnings of a plan.
Handler, as Himawari is our bag the bag of holding or it's the pauldrons we've stuffed inside of it? Does Lorelei know if Me's A Crowd clones will appear where her body or her spirit is, if we use it while ghostriding?

1. Make an opening that Prima can look out of and analyze as much as she can. Do our job until we have a break. Scope out anything that could be of use- windows, ventilation, fire escape ladders, cameras, circuit boxes etc.

2. Scope out the break room. If she can hack anything in here, that would be great. Turn off the power, set off an intruder alarm somewhere else, we'll see what can be done.

3. When Jun enters the break room or if he joins us there from the start, doesn't matter, Prima turns off the security cameras if there are any and we tranquilize him. When he's dozed off we use Lights, Camera, Action to take over him that way we should not have to roll to make his body take actions.

4. Enact plan "poor himawari was assaulted", then enter the facility as Jun. Once we reach floor 3 or when someone becomes suspicious of him we summon our clones and find the torso.

Thoughts?

>>2434000
7 and 9 PM should be when we have our breaks. So, either of those.
>>
>>2434008
The mana clones are in the clothes you are currently in.

>>2434039
Your Bag of Holding is the pauldrons. Me's a Crowd always emanates from her. As long as she's conscious, she can control them. She's not sure what'll happen if she tries to pop Me's and goes into LCA.
>>
Also, working on the updated map.
>>
>>2434039
i'm not so sure about the last two points. The people would be immediately alarmed. At least with the other plan we can jump inside the air ducts or try to infiltrate the old fashioned way and nobody would notice us until we reveal ourselves.
>>
>>2434051
You mean >>2434020?

I think it all depends on whether we want Himawari to be compromised or not. It seemed a lot of people wanted it to look like we were a victim hence point 4.
>>
Here's what you gathered from the quick tour and the maps you saw.
>>
>>2434063
well, as far as i understand it, neither of the plans compromises the himawari cover. Its just a matter of when and how we want the guards to be alerted.

They're suspicious already. Going to the bathroom when the criminal appears, after being found leaving a bathroom when the criminal disappeared? They even put a tail on us. If there really is no head and King considers the contract fulfilled then it doesn't matter...
I suppose it doesn't either way, we can just get a different disguise.

Whichever gets us closer before making clones is better, will shave off a lot of seconds on the time limit. Will we disappear with Shatterlight or stay as Himawari, what do you think?

The idea i had was to go into the bathroom as himawari. Have a clone leave as himawari, transform into shatterlight once the clone dissolves and then like 15 minutes later infiltrate trough the air ducts (they are always people sized), or shut down all the systems with prima and make a go for the pieces).

Everything should be done as shatterlight.

7 PM. You don't want them to get time to get settled in, and so a quick approach might be the best call here. Kyo and Ken are...somewhere, you’re not sure. You’re pretty sure they got the cushy jobs with staying inside as more entrenched lines of defense. But, you suppose that works out just as well for you.

Jun shows up at 6 PM, just as the guard indicated, and he seems to be a fairly friendly sort- a bowl-cut young man with an innocent face, and quick with a joke. Interestingly enough, he doesn't seem to take the threat of a thief too seriously - according to him, it would be ‘way too crazy’ to try and steal something right out from under their noses. “Chances are he’s going to wait until we try and move out the decoy and and nab it then.” He starts to take out a cigarette, but then looks at you and puts it back. “Don’t smoke these- bad for your health. Anyway, you're doing fine out here. Just great. Top marks.”

Simple enough, really; and he definitely seems like a trusting sort, which is good for you. But the fact that he’s RIGHT THERE means that you can’t do much about letting Prima get a look at things.

As 7 PM approaches, you ready yourself. You're to the right of the back entrance, across from the dumpsters.

When the time hits…

“Okay, break time, kiddo! You got 15 minutes, then you need to be back out here.” He’s all smiles. “I can keep watch for you until you get back.”

>Actually, do you want to come with me to the break room?

You just give him a cheerful wave and a smile. “Sure, no problem! Be right back out.” Not that you would need a whole lot of time to set things up initially. At least, you hope. You have questioned you bringing your tote bag inside - in fact he doesn't even seem to notice. neither does anyone else as you casually head to the break room on the second floor. The one good thing is that there seem to be very few people here- you pass all of two people on the way, but most everywhere else seems to be dead, although you know that that's not quite the case.

Break room’s a pretty simple setup. Refrigerator, a couple of coffee machines, snack machine, microwaves. Nothing too useful. And the bathroom, of course.

No one’s in here at the moment. No cameras, either. Which is just fantastic. Nice window view outside, too...augh, focus! You have about 10 minutes or so to do anything you wanted to try here.

>Get into the bathroom, and Prima out, see if she can’t reach anything from here.
>Take a quick walk around and maybe swing around to the security office…
>See if you can get into the Testing Rooms...just for a quick peek, of course!

A dip into the bathroom (two person, only one of them is a stall, but that’s all you need at least), and you're quick to release Prima from her... Well, it's not exactly imprisonment. But you stick a hand in it, and it takes a couple of seconds before you feel a metallic hand grasp yours. “You didn’t forget about me!”

“Duh, of course not!” you say lightly. “So, before anything else...I’d really like to know- just what is it like in there?”

“...Dark, and yet it seemed as though anything that actually inhabited the space was clearly visible.” Is her response. “Although by my readings the temperature was actually respectable.”

Huh. Vaguely surprising. “Really? Not cold?”

“Not at all. Quite temperate.” Well, ain’t that something. Although you suppose it makes sense.

Ah, but, distractions. “Well, anyway, I was wondering if there is anything that you could reach from here, electronics-wise. Trying to see if we can’t knock anything out sooner than later.”

“Hm...I believe I can attempt to identify access points or available systems.” Her eyes begin flashing as you're used to. “Just a moment...there are a total of four access points I can reach from this location. Points one and two are the closest in distance- I am fairly certain that points three and four are more distant. I can't tell you exactly what they are, however. The access point names are...unspecific."

“And they are?” Worth hearing, at least.

“Point one is titled ‘XLR81441’. Point two is ‘ARHUSS550’. Point three is ‘ASEC000’, Point four is ‘AHSS1080’. However...” she trails off briefly. “I’m almost certain that my intrusion would be noticed were I not exceedingly careful…”

Hm...

XLR

If A is Automatic, ASEC is Automated Security, ARHU could be Automated Remote... something?

well, giving it a little more time to think, XL can be used as eXtra Large, The R could mean Robot.... maybe is the room where the gragant body is.
i'm still betting that the ARHU is where the decoy or the real piece is. (because the company that is making the parts is Arhu corp.
ASEC should be security

“Then, go for Point Two,” you decide, after some careful thought. it seems like most of them would probably correspond to some sort of words, but even though the words themselves weren't something you were sure of, you could at least take a guess.

“On it,” she agrees, and her lights flash again. “Attempting access...ah! I’m in.”

“Really?” you question. “That was quick. Not a kind of trap?”

“It seems as though they kept a log of who recently acquired access in the RAM. I was able to acquire that information and copy it.” Ooooh, nice. “It seems like we now have high level access to the parts storage area on this floor.”

Ooooh, nice~. You’d HAVE to take a swing by that place and see what's up for grabs- whether to sell or just to keep for yourself or what. But for now, you’ve only got a couple of minutes left before you need to get back down and Jun starts wondering where you are. If you're going to make any other moves, you need to make them fast.

>Just get back down to Jun, you’ve already managed to get a nice little bonus.
>Nope, keep going! Maybe time for a clone and start the show?

It takes you a little bit to look around, but you notice that the air vents here are larger than normal. They're not usually as big as you see in a lot of movies, so you can't exactly crawl around them like most want to, but you do notice that laboratories and other such places tend to fit the stereotype. At the moment, that's nothing but a good thing. it's still a little bit big for you, but for Prima… “Hey, look up. Think you can fit in there? I want you to hide out for a bit until I can get you further orders.”

She looks up, and her eyes squint a touch. “I’m beginning to dislike going in tight places.”

“I’ll make it up to you, I swear. But this kind of needs to happen. Please?” You look at her with pleading eyes, and her own gaze relaxes a bit.

“Alright. I hope this doesn’t end up a common situation…” she says as you hop on the top of the stall and...hm. How would you best… eh, screw it. You grip, and tug carefully, and only with a minimum of groaning and cracking does the grate come off. With your free hand, you lift the Prima up and into the air vent way, and...huh. Can she turn aroun- oh, okay, good. Tight fit, but the answer’s yes.”I’ll await further orders, Miss Himawari.”

“Thank, Pri. You’re the best!” You start to replace the grate, when her voice catches your attention.

“Pardon, but...Pri?” She asks, doing that head till thing again.

“Yeah! Y’know, a nickname! ‘Cause I like you!” you don't give her a chance to respond as you lift the great up and try and wedge it back to where it belong. It wouldn't exactly be steady, but hopefully it would hold enough to not cause any questions if someone else came in here. “Anyway, keep an eye out, don't be afraid to crawl around and maybe take a look around a little bit. Lemme know if you find anything interesting or like, and I’ll send you any tactical orders like disabling some cameras or something else I think you should try to interact with. Okay?”

“Er, right! I’ll be as silent as possible!” With that, she turns around, and quietly, and slowly, starts crawling away.

By the time you exit, Jago’s still standing around casually. No one else is still in the room. “Finished yer business, I hope. Took a while.”

Shrug. “It happens. Let’s get back.”

Fortunately, it doesn't take you too long to get back downstairs, and Jun doesn’t make a fuss. Instead, he simply waves you a goodbye, mentioning he’ll see you at 9, and you’re left outside alone again.

So...that’s part of your infiltration set. It’s now 7:15. You’ve got access to parts storage, and Prima’s now loose. Which is nice, but it’s (to some people) nothing vital. But as for phase two…

>You’re going to be using her to disable the cameras nearby so you can change soon and ‘kidnap’ yourself.

Hopping up and over the fence, you position yourself in preparation as ‘you’ resume the ‘casually playing on your phone’ position you just had. After you grab yourself, however, you’ve still got several seconds, and need to decide just how you’re making your entrance…

Your clone puts up a nice showing of realizing who you are too late as your hands wrap around its neck. With its head shaking fearfully, you touch it once, twice in the stomach, your fist burying itself deep in ‘your’ ribcage. Slumped over, the body goes limp as you tell it to, and you're quick to quite literally toss it in the dumpster and shut the door, before quickly darting inside.

‘Keep the cameras blind to me if you can.’ you fire off, and then you quickly begin your climb without waiting for a response - you'll just have to trust her.

You manage to reach the second floor without issue, but whoever's security is clearly on the ball, because as you reach it, you hear the intercom come on.

‘Security be advised, we’re having a few glitches in the system, be on high alert in case this is not technical difficulties. Again, be advised…’ Rats. You always hated competent guards. But, that doesn't mean that all’s lost. You’re just going to have to be quick- although you REALLY DO want to see what’s in that parts storage…

Shaking that desire out of your head for now, you spring up to the third floor, hearing a few voices. Seems like someone's on the move. As you break open the door...

Your pose is fierce. Hand outstretched, body aggressive yet confident. You're the very picture of the bombastic and powerful villain. Your radiance is glorious, your purpose is clear! You are the burning rays against Justice, the heat that washes away the soothing waves of right!

“So tell me, fellows!” you shout to the duo that stand there gobsmacked. “AGAINST SHATTERLIGHT, WILL YOU FLEE OR FIGHT?”

“...Shatterwha- GAHH!” he barely gets time to speak before you rush forward, your path blazing towards him!

The bot named Rikyo is quick to intercept, however, immediately extending a bladed arm and taking a swing at you. You barely manage to dodge its blow and spin around it, taking it by the forearm. However, you don't let go.

“THE RADIANCE OF MY BEING WILL BLIND YOU ALL!” Another burst of speed brings you forward into Ken's range, and before he can move out of the way your other hand has him in its grip as well. And then you spin.

“YOU WILL NEVER OUTSHINE ME!”

With a mighty (but still less powered) swing, you hurl the both of them down the hallway, the both of them tumbling over each other end over end before hitting the wall with a loud thump. At first you're worried that something may have cracked badly on the both of them- but a groan and an attempt by Ken to rise to his feet tells you otherwise.

“Hahah. And lo, feel the burning power of the sun!” you crow as the two struggle to rise.

“Ken? Ken!” a voice shouts from the radio. “Are you okay?” Naturally, he doesn't answer. however, Rikyo is in far better shape, rising to its feet despite a few dents.

“Intruder….you shall not pass these halls!” He says gamely, and yet again he rushes for you. You do your best to attempt to grab again, but he's gotten wise to it, and slips under your reach; you have to quickly jerk out of the way of one of his thrusts, which you can't help but notice wasn't exactly aimed for a skewer. Guess he has orders to take you in alive.

“HAH!” you mock as another swing just misses. “YOU THINK YOU CAN STOP THE SHATTERING LIGHT?!”

A brief retreat, and Rikyo readies himself. “My blades will cleave through your twilight.” And then he strikes again.

As a kick whiffs (damn short, these Minibots are) and Rikyo backs off to avoid a retaliatory punch, you’re soon accosted by the sounds of several pairs of footsteps running up the stairs behind you.

That’d be Kyo and Zero, most likely. The third...maybe Jago? Hm. Well, either way, you don’t have a lot of time…

“No time to delay, I say!” you boast as you make a beeline straight for the door that Ken was nearby. You're not sure if it was just coincidence or if he was coming out of it, but it's your best bet so far. “I shall not be contained!” keeping your speed, you throw yourself into a full body charge that not only dents the door, but snaps it clear off its hinges.

Unfortunately, from what you can see, there's only two doors, one going left and one going right. Great, you’re going to need to decide- and that means more time spent searching and less time getting out. You’re going to need a distraction. ‘Prima’! You send quickly as you pick one at random- the rightmost one. ‘Distraction! Find something, anything!’

Yet again, you don't bother to wait for a response as you continue barreling through the rooms. You throw yourself past another set into what seems to be some sort of empty server room with a bunch of computer stations, but nothing resembling a torso...wait, there’s another door back there.

“CHARGE!”

The sheer fact that your bombastic presence is met with several yells at the door flying off its hinges tells you that you are, FINALLY, at your destination. And indeed, the organic-looking torso, currently attached to what seems to be the basic frame of a Minibot plus its shell piece, sits in the center of the room, a number of diagnostic nodes attached to it as well. Three scientists look at you with abject fear, and two of them cower- the third, a younger man, finds the gall within himself to try and come at you with what looks to be some sort of heavy wrench are perhaps a screwdriver, but you're quick to bat it away and give him a shove strong enough to throw him against one of the nearby terminals.

At fucking LAST…

Eschewing subtlety or carefulness, you nearly rip the diagnostic nodes and wires off, the suckers simply detaching with cute little *pops*. You’d have to take your pauldrons off to store it, and right now you don't think you have the time, especially with Little Kid Hero and his partner coming up behind you-

“Stop right there!” Yyyyyup. Right on time.

You turn around, part of you wishing they could actually see the face of exasperation you're making. Naturally, they gasp when they see what you got in your hands. “The Arhu Torso!”

“You better put that back, girl!” Zero growls out. “Or you’re gonna be sorry!”

We were an Aiba Corp experiment to create the perfect minibot. Super black ops, you know, no registry of it exists. We are stealing these parts because it has tech that was tested on us and we don't want to recreate another "shatterlight".

Okay, first, his banter needs some serious work. Second?

"Sorry?! Not as much as those that become obstacles to SHATTERLIGHT!" Okay, nearest object, nearest object- Aha!

With a lightning fast the rest of your arm, you snatch up the toolset near the work table and immediately fling it towards of the intrepid duo. While Zero only has to block his face, Kyo has to dive for cover to prevent getting pelted by any of the steel objects; an advantage that you take to begin slinging a wide variety of objects at their person.

“Hey- ow! Stop- ow! Quit it!” You sling everything and anything towards them with one hand as you try to maneuver around the duo without getting too close to the back of the room. Keyboards, wrenches, a cup of coffee at one point (and judging by the yell it was still hot, so HA!!).
And then you realize just what could really bowl them over. With one hand firmly on the torso and the other under the table, you shove the table in their direction, flipping it end over end towards a flinching Kyo-

Only for it to suddenly be cleaved in two by the sword of Zero, fully armored at last.

For a few brief moments, you find yourself in a tense staredown as he readies his blade. “This is the part where you lose,” he says ominously, and then immediately charges. You tense yourself to dodge-

*BZZZZZZZT BZZZZZT BZZZZZT.* Suddenly an alarm goes off, and red emergency lights begin flashing in a panicked crescendo. Zero stops in his tracks for just a moment as he's caught off-guard and forced to reorient himself from the sudden cacophony of sound and light as everyone else shouts in alarm.

But YOU have a helmeeeet~.

cont.

>>2435932
Ah Giant Robo Gaiden Ginrei. This bring good memories for my old bones.
>>
>>2436013
As you speed by him, you give him a wicked backhand that manages to send Zero crashing into one of the desks, causing a visible grunt of pain and even a few sparks to fly.

“Zero!” Kyo cries out- only to receive a similar treatment as you give him a kick strong enough to cause him to crash against the wall near the doorway. You quickly dart out of the room, and almost immediately as the sudden warnings and klaxons started, they stop, and that pretty much answers just what all that was about.

Clever, Prima.

Two security guards- along with Jago- are there to meet you as soon as you turn the corner, however, and you're forced to give a mighty leap as the boys in blue begin to open fire, lighting them both up with Fireworks that causes the both of them to drop their guns and cry out in pain as the burning miniature bolts hit them. A steel hook passes you by as well, and as much as you'd like to say thanks, you can't really afford to do that right now.

You were careful to not hit Jago, and you noticed that when he fired his hook at you it was a mile wide, and he didn't even bother to cock back like he usually does. Quite the captain to help his crew out like that.

Ken and Rikyo are nowhere to be found when you get back out into the hall, although you're not sure whether that's a good or bad thing.

Part of you really knows that you should probably get out right now. You got the objective, you got a clear shot- for all intents and purposes this jobs done with as long as you make it clean escape…

...But you’ve got access to ALL THOSE PARTS! ‘Going to Parts Storage’ you send as you hop over the stairs, drop down a full floor, and quickly break your way into the 2nd floor again as you make a beeline for the parts storage.

Yet again, no one present- wherever Ken is, it seems like they’re trying to set up a way to keep you from leaving- at least, that’s your guess. Well...you’ll cross that bridge when you get to it. For now...

Parts parts parts parts parts. There’s several different rooms, all split by part type- Offensive, Defensive, Mobility, Support.

Hmmm...decisions decisions! Of course, the more parts that you try to take, the more time that you use, so...bah, like it or not, you’ll have to at least be a BIT selective with what you take…

A genius idea comes to you before you start sweating a bit too much. Really, it's oddly simple yet amazing. You'll just get out the same way you got in. ‘Prima, run loop for cameras for 1 min outside of break room and 1:30 for one outside dumpster and meet in bathroom’.

Okay, with that sent, hopefully she’s not too far from- *thump thump thump crash* Oh. Neat! “Great work,” you say hurriedly as you take your pauldron off as you head inside the bathroom. “Now get in!”

The bot actually *sags*. “...Oh dear.”

About 10 seconds later, a mighty crash comes from one of the higher floor windows as Shatterlight explodes out of the east end of the building- landing square in front of a pair of police officers. “To attempt to catch the rays of injustice is folly!” she shouts, and the pair of officers immediately draw guns- only to catch a roundhouse between the both of them that knocks their firearms out of their hands. One of them jumps back, and is quick to radio for backup…

But that’s all you can tell, as you slip around and down the back way, peeking out of the door and quickly diving into the dumpster- STILL stinks, STILL hate it- and retrieving your normal tote bag after a quick change. Now, where the blazes is Jag-

“Hurry it up, sheila!” WHOA OKAY. You have to stop yourself from jumping and smacking your head on the dumpster lid as you whirl around and see your ever grumpy captain bot waiting there just outside. “Don’t got a lotta time; said I’d just take a squizz ‘round the back meself! We tearin’ arse outta here, yeah? Took me ages to convince the ‘ot shot an’ ‘is bot ta leave it to me!”

Oh yeah, there WAS that…

...But no, best not to have any loose ends. “Okay, but hang out back here for a bit longer! I’m gonna send my clone back here after a second, you pretend to get kidnapped!”

“Wot!?” You don’t halftime to elaborate as you take a quick flying leap and dart off beyond the street, past the bushes, and well out of the range of any cameras or other sentinels, now that all the attention is on the east side of the building…

You hear some shouting, and part of you wonders if maybe you were seen- but you don't have time to sit around and wait. You also hear several gunshots go off in the distance, and even at this distance you hear the *spack spack* of dirt flying from stray bullets- wild shots that nearly got lucky. Now, let’s see, hiding spot, hiding spot…

Ah, per- wait, no. That’s not perfect at all. That’s a sewer drain. A big one.

...Rats. And you mean that both literally and figuratively.

At least your clone is still alive- you can sense it. You’re gonna have to drop Jago off somewhere- ah. You know just the place…

------------------

It takes a few minutes of waiting, of enduring the smell, and in general of annoyance- but at the very least you didn't get caught, and Jago was deposited safely back where it all began. That training pit.

“Didn’t think that’d work, sheila,” Jago says primly as you walk up, extending a hand which she takes. “Didn’t calculate you was that strong, eitha’.”

“I’m full of surprises!” you boast. And finally, you can send the message.

‘Torso obtained. On way back.’ As usual, the response is quick.

‘Excellent. Pay will be waiting.’

Now THOSE words are a feast for the eyeballs.

...Oh! Huh. Speaking of that…

...Where the hell was Tooru during all that ruckus? Wasn’t he part of the guard, too?

...Meh. Well, you won’t question it.

-----------------

“Thank you for letting me out again,” Prima says once you’re back at base, and safely in the Repair Bay, just for certainties’ sake. “I’m sure, now. I'm very much not fond of being in that dark space. I’d prefer not to have to do it again.”

“That will be highly unlikely,” Mr. King says as he strolls into the Bay suddenly, his walk an absolute swagger. “After all, she’ll be leaving shortly.”

She tilts her head. “Ah. To where, may I ask?”

He shrugs as he looks at you. “Hell if I know or care. Away. I doubt you’ll ever see her again.”

Prima goes still for a second, and then slumps. “O-oh…is that so? That’s...unfortunate. Or...sad, I think. Yes, I’m sure. That makes me sad.”

“Ah. Shame, that,” Jago admits plainly. “T’was fun.”

like i said before, the thing with consciousness and all of that gives me headaches because a huge philosophical and ethical thing.

A thought, not for the first time, flits through your head. Could she come with you? Could Jago? Sal? If, say, I wanted these two to come with me…

Sal’s ever-smooth voice comes in crystal clear. “The pinkette’s gotta make that decision on her ooooooooown, hotshot. The swaaaaarthy fellow? Heeeeeee’s loot- unless you do that VERY nifty trick on him again. But, final decision isn’t teeeeeeechnically my call to make anymore.”

Hold on a tic. “Wait, what?”

’You doooooo have a Division Leader now, remember? Don’t worry, I’ll paaaaaatch her in.’

Oh god you have to convince MIRANDA?

”What is it? What’d you do now, Lori?” Well...crap. You can do this. Right?

>Uhhh...okay, so, just throwing it out there- I made a couple robots sapient and one I’m thinking about making sapient and they’re really cool can I bring them back with me pleeease?
>I might have two new recruits for us, or...maybe one an’ a half, or something...but I need your permission, apparently! Can you do a friend a favor?

Come on, Jago's loot, even Sal said so.
Prima, though, she's a walking, talking electronic hacking machine, and I know you don't have one of those, Randa! And she's just SO CUTE!
>>

oh yeah, of course Miranda with prima would be unstoppable. also this is exactly why i wanted to give consciousness to prima on the intersection; to avoid Handler's post

Silence. Not goodish. ”C’mon! They'd be good potential recruits for us, or something...but I need your permission, apparently! The main one’s a master of analysis and she's like a walking talking hack machine, and she’s suuuuuper cute! Like, I'm talkin’ 10 out of 10 adorable! The other one’s funny and he’s a bruiser and I just KNOW you two would bond, I swear! And either way they’re both pretty good fighters, since that's entirely what they were made for. Not to mention, ROBOTS, Miranda! ROBOTS! Bird girl’s gonna go cuckoo figuring out how they tick- seriously! I’m telling you, I’m so glad you-”

“Okay STOP!” You stop. “Just...Lori. Question”

“Yeeesss?” Please being okay, please okay...

“WHY.” Oh.

“...Because?” Um.

“WHY BECAUSE?” Ah.

“Because...I thought...it’d...be...cool?” Oh no you ruined it. You ruined it and everything is horrible forever.

Suddenly, you hear her give a great, heaving sigh.“...Fine.”

Oh no.“I’m sorry, ‘Randa but I’ll take care of them I PROMISE and they don't need to eat so-” Wait, what? “Wait, whaaaa?”

“Just...I…*sigh*...fine. I’m going to trust you on this one, Lori. Don’t make me regret it.”

OH YES!“Don’t worry, Randa, things are gonna be AWESOME, you’ll see! You're the best Leader EVER!”

“...Hm. Just...get back here soon.” And then the ‘line’ breaks, and suddenly you’re back in the land of the present.

And Mr. King is looking at you oddly. “Are you back among us, then?”

“Oh! Yeah, right. Aaaanyway. Mr. King, I was wondering.” You wrap your arms around both of the two bots that you've come to adore lately. “Iiiii was wonderin’ if I might be able to take these two with me back home. If ya don’t mind, of course!”

He purses his lips, and quirks an eyebrow. “I believe the pirate is yours already, so I won’t bother you about that one.” He concedes. “However, the Prima is, in fact, mine, if you’ve forgotten, and she’s shown some odd deviances in her AI patterns-”

“That I made and can do again if you let me take her.” you quickly counter-offer.

That QUICKLY shuts the mouth that was opening, and you can smell the blood in the water.

“I’ll consider it a freebie before I- ah, WE go, Mr. King. Bring me the two you want the most.” You’re pretty sure you’ve gotten this little trick down, by now.

“…Fine. But then take your paycheck, and GET OUT.” He says, turning on his heel towards two engineers nearby. “Get me Thundercat and Exor, on the double!”

“Pleasure doin’ business with you!” And with that you turn towards Prima. "Sooo..."

"Yes." Wow, her head's going like whoa. "Yes, I believe I would like that a great deal."

"I'll be by yer side however ya like, sheila," Jago offers, and honestly? You feel good.

...Probably because you love winning.

...Man, this place really is quaint, isn’t it? Nice grass, simple pit for combat. Glad Tooru showed you this place. It’s simple yet clean, in a way.

Oh, speaking of. There he is. “Yeah, we just need to- YOU!” He stands, shocked, as you, in full Shatterlight regalia, casually sit on the edge of the training pit. “I can’t believe- were you the one that sent this note?!”

“I was,” you say calmly as you pick yourself up from the edge. Besides him, Moxer immediately readies its guns. “So eager to fight, are you?”

“Give Himawari BACK, you monster!” Is all he growls out.

Oh, this poor, lovelorn boy. “Where were you when I struck the other night?”

He reels back in surprise, but chokes out an answer, his face red and- interestingly enough- near tears. “N-none of your business! Now...”

You’re not worried about him. He's not in a position to oppose you. Turning on your heel, you turn your back to him although you make sure to look at him out of the corner of your eye, regardless of whether he can see it or not. It's all about the head positioning. “She’s gone.”

“Ghrk!” He reels back, his teeth grit, but he can't find it in him to say anything. There’s no willpower.

“She’s gone, and she won’t be back.” You turn ever so slightly- making sure that despite your posture, he knows you're looking right at him. “Train hard, boy, so that this never happens again.”

With a single great leap, you bound beyond the fence, and after a few more leaps you’re out of his eyesight- although a skyward scream tells you just what he thought about what you just said. "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"

You duck into an alleyway where two very familiar bots are waiting for you, and finally, FINALLY...you can let yourself laugh it up.

"Pffftthahahahahah! What. A. DORK. PFTHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!" Your cackling scaring a nearby cat away, you finally announce you’re done here, and, holding Prima’s hand, in a shimmer of light, you’re gone.

You REALLY love winning.

>Shock Claw: A clawed weapon reminiscent of the basic types Thundercat uses. Has all the same attributes of being an electrified left hand that can shock and potentially scramble bots. It’s not sharp, however.

>Pinwheel: A basic two-handed, blunt circular weapon platinum less can serve as both an offensive and defensive weapon in a pinch, despite the stylized make of it.

>Heavy Bracers: A set of bracers intended for Bruiser-types (as far as you can guess) intended to protect their grabby bits from getting cut off at the cost of speed. They’re pretty heavy bludgeons as well.

>Heavy Kite Shield: a very well reinforced, yet fairly lightweight stylized kite shield that can take a good bit of punishment before it even dents.

>Basic Speedster Frame Legs: Just a frame a pair of legs it seems they used to test stuff with. Don’t seem to be any special bit to them.

>Basic Balanced Frame Torso: Basic torso frame piece, it seems. Kinda like what you took the Arhu Torso off of. Nothing major.

>Bot Scanner: Seems to be more for the owners than the bots. This apparently can scan a bot and give a quick overview of the base name, type, and weapon specialty.

>Experimental Nanofield: Now THIS...you’re unsure of. It seems to be a canister of some sort that has some sort of a radar dish on the top, but you're not entirely sure what it is, just that it has the label ‘Nanofield (v1)’ on it.

“Okay, some cool stuff, some whatever stuff, but on the whole I think I did a pretty good-” And suddenly there’s this high pitched keening sound that makes you wanna cover your- “Okay, what IS that!?”

The two of you quickly turn to where you think the source of the noise is, only to see Owlia staring at the lot of you...with a very, VERY creepy smile, no lie.

“...eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee...” And the noise, that too. Ha. Yeah. It’s good to be back.

>You are now Miranda.

“Okay, KNOCK IT OFF!” you yell before you get a headache. “Owlia, I know what you’re thinking- no. You cannot take them apart. Ever.”

“Aawwwwwwwww...but what about the spare parts?” Of course that’d be the first thing she would zero in on, not a ‘hi, how you doing, welcome back!’ or anything.

“Ask Lorelei about it,” you say. “She brought them back.”

“Yeah, I can probably give you a couplea junk pieces, sure,” she admits. “We can talk it over later.”

“Yeeeeesssssss…” Well...they’d be useful, at least.

And then Sal has to go and open his big mouth. “Although I’m glaaaaaad to see you back and in good spirits, I feel I should let you know- Iiiiii’ve got your next job lined up for you already, sweetums.”

“Wait, me?!” Lorelei says, shooting up. “I thought that was all I needed to get back into your good graces!”

“It waaaaaaasss, and you are,” he says easily. “Buuuuuuut, this is an opportunity for everyone here!”

“What kind of opportunity?” You ask carefully. The LAST time he set you up with a job…

“The kiiiiind that pays a over a hundred Large, Superstar!” Oh. Well. That’s a lot- “Aaaaaand requires a minimum three-gal team! Aaaaaaaand the kind that just might convince my higher ups to give one or soooooome of you some...extras.”

“Extras?” says a new voice- Izumi, with Mono trailing. “What kind of Extras?”

“Extraaaaaas like, say...FutureSights for eeeeeeveryone.” The way he wiggles is just...off. “Or perhaps a veeeery early increase in rank, for our newer folk.”

“Wait, that quickly?” Mono says in surprise. “Ya gotta be kiddin’ me!”

“Indeed,” an imperious voice says. “That’s quite the fortunate happenstance. But what exactly is the job?” Cylica asks with a doubtful expression.

“Oh, well, gather round, eeeeeeveryone!” He says just as your FutureSight beeps with the notice of a job sent to your profile. Taking it out, you’re surrounded by faces as you bring the job description up on screen.

Owlia stays behind cranking out money.

Cylica = Tactics and negotiation
Lorelei = Scouting and infiltration
Izumi = Overwatch and Ambush
Mono = Coming along for experience

Also this lets us be proactive. Lorelei can scout out and infiltrate one or maybe even two groups

And then there's the viewers left in suspense, with and ending that's seemingly too dark for a kids' shonen.
I really want to go back to that world one day for a more conclusive ending, or a chance to extend it from that final scene before going back to homebase and resuming normally.

Anyways.

>Owlia
>Cylica

These robots need to access some databases to explain the Intersection and it's culture to them.
I hope we get at least 3 days or a week of prep before deployment. we should have a meeting to get everyone on a position or duty– like Zumi can scout ahead, Randa and whoever can defend or guard, while the other two are supporting/specialized duty
>>
Okay, current locks are as follows:

>Izumi
>Lorelei
>Mono
>Cyclia

Owlia seems to be staying behind, but I'll give it about 30 more minutes in case anyone wants to make any arguments for otherwise.

>Izumi
>Owlia

Give Lori a break and let her show the bots around. Zumi and Mono will definitely be useful in a fight, and since we're hopefully going to be defending one location we can have Cylica and Owlia set up traps and kill zones. Plus they'd be able to look around at Artifacts and what not so that might be fun. We can have our local team handle the dangers of the ruins since they'd be more familiar with them.
Presence of double agents does make Lori seem like a good pick though.
>>
>>2437504
I wish we'd drop Cyclia, but I'm not overly fussed about it. Looks good to me.
>>
>>2437511
Like I said, if you want to make a case for it, feel free. It's basically 'top four votes get in', so.
>>
Like, yeah. Right now Lorelei and Owlia are tied for votes.
>>
>>2436831
Izumi
Cylica
Owlia
Mono
>>
>>2437502
I think Owlia should stay, Cylica can take her role as magical scientist/crystal mage in the group and has (some) martial arts training to defend herself. not that I think Owlia can't do that but Cylica is more experienced with battles and thus be versatile on supporting, offesive or defensive duty when the situation calls for it.
Lorelei is for double agent esponaige and spy shit which can help us in the long run.

Kay, seems like last call ends at

It takes you awhile to figure out just who you want to bring. everyone has their own pros and cons. Actually, thinking about it you can't help but smile. For as long as it's just been you, and maybe Lorelei, and Izumi, you’ve got a pretty solid bunch of folks here.

...Maybe being a leader isn’t all THAT horrible. Although you’d still hate to do a ton of paperwork. “Alright, made my decisions.”

You look at them in turn. “Izumi, your speed, way around guns, and general aptitude for combat is going to be a serious help. You’re one of the best here, and everyone knows it.”

She nods. “I’ll be by your side, whatever you need.”

Next. “Owlia?” Aaand she’s all teeth. “Considering what we're going to be going after, I think your knowledge base and experience is going to be just what the doctor ordered- they might have their own artificer, but I doubt they’ve got someone quite like you.”

She throws her hands in the air! “Yeeeeee! I’m gonna go pack!” And just like that, she practically skips out of the room into her laboratory.

Well, that’ll segue nicely into what’s next. “Cylica?”

“Me? Truly?” The thing about it is that she seems genuinely surprised. “And here I thought you didn’t like me.” Okay, no, THAT was being snarky.

You let out a small snort. “Honestly, if you can curb that attitude of yours…”

“Oh, perish the thought!” ...right.

Moving on. “...Then I think you’d be a good addition if only for your more social capabilities in this particular situation; but that, you own technological and magical skillset, and the fact that you can probably keep a leash on Owlia better than anyone else here means you’re coming with, too.”

“Well, well! I humbly accept your invitation. I’ll see to it that myself and dear Owlia keep to the highest decorum.” She casually trolls out of the room, heading straight for where Owlia was.

And, last but not least… “Mono.”

She smirks. “Yeah? Me too, huh?”

“Yup,” you nod. “I think you could use a little bit more experience, and considering that this is going to be a defensive mission, I think you’ll be just what we need in order to keep any assaulters control and delusional while we work to secure the assets. That...and let’s face it, you could use a bit more practice.”

cont.
>>
>>2437614
To her credit, she doesn't take any offense at this. “Gotcha, boss. Don’t worry, I’ll try not to freak out this time.”

“So...what’s goin’ on with me? I’m sittin’ this one out?” She, thankfully, doesn't look too put out, instead having a hand drift to Prima, who doesn't seem to object at all.

You can only tilt your head in a show of apology. “You honestly deserve the break, I think- that, and we need someone to show out latest acquires around.” You shrug. “Who better than the girl who brought them on in the first place?”

“Dontchu worry, ‘Randa!” She says as she continues patting the fancy looking robot on the head. “Me, the Cap, and Pri are gonna have a GREAT time!”

“A great time doing what?” Prima asks curiously.

“Everything!” She shouts.

“That sounds a mite much…” Jago grumbles. So of course she starts patting HIM, too.
“Right, then,” Izumi says. “Sal said that we’ve a couple of days to prepare. I presume that means allowing everyone time to train, consider their options and purchase supplies, or get to crafting anything that they feel might be useful.”

“Bingo,” you agree. “I’d prefer to do this as a group , so everyone get your shopping lists ready for tomorrow. Any further questions for now?” Seeing none, you nod placidly. “Okay, then. Break, see you all later.”

>Supply list coming up, as will shopping. Note: I may have forgotten some things, so if anyone can remind me in case I missed anything, it’d be appreciated.

Now we only need the list of things we can buy.

>>2437635

>>
ok, owlia, cylica and mono need their own bags and magic comms, but other than that, i'm not sure.
>>
>>2437636
Mono needs mana crystals. Assuming this is a high magic world since they're called artificers and not engineers we might not need to spring for another condenser yet, but having emergency mana is always useful.
>>
>>2437643
Oh, wait, you got it. My mistake, guess I passed over it.
>>
>>2437635
We should probably find out how to get more ammo for our Stone Shotgun. Maybe Owlia might be able to come up with something? Or we could try buying the ammo if we're lucky enough to find it in the market, around nine more charges sounds good.
>>
Do we need to pay dress up this time? With an entire team we seem to have all bases covered so what should Miranda go for this time? Full intimidation might be good, and Otherworldly was great fun last time.
>>
After looking over everything, you’re not sure if you will need anything in particular, but you get the feeling that the newbies are probably going to need to go on a little bit of a shopping spree. The fact that they’ve mostly just been doing courier work or simple jobs doesn't allow for a whole lot of on-site procurement. There’s ALSO the fact that, according to this little message Sal gave you, dues are coming up for most of you, so either way you’re gonna have to be cautious as to how much you- and they- spend.

>Popular Stores:

>Lorenzo’s Artificing and Magecraft:
>The premier magic shop, full of various devices for anyone with the slightest bit of mana to use. Magic staffs and wands, orbs of power, spectral containers, mystic tabards, and the like are all available at Lorenzo’s, be it technologically simple or advanced. He used to be a lot more haughty, you remember. Then apparently something had happened, and now he was just a jittery fellow. You didn’t ask questions.

>Example Wares- Mana Condensers, Bags of Holding, Murmur Stones
>Price Range: 50 Small - 10 Large

>Kowalski’s Supply Depot
>Allll about the milspec gear, across all timeframes, and ranges from traditional physical projectile launching weaponry to energy devices, and anything in-between. Kowalski’s a decent guy; you’ve met him once or twice before. Just can’t get away from the merc mindset. Still, his armory is second to none, and he has a healthy appreciation for explosives, which you can respect.
>Price Range: 20 Small - 8 Large

>Example Wares: Guns. Rocket Launchers. That sorta thing.

>Io’s Potpourri.
>Names so because she can get just about anything and everything to sell, whether common or rare. It’s interesting how she seems to have her hands in a lot of pies, and you’ve occasionally heard rumor that she’s tight with one of the Ingenious; though of course she vehemently denies such accusations. The only thing about her, is that her stuff tends to be more expensive than the others, although she claims that’s because ‘it’s just that much more special!’

I know about thay. Post apocaliptic magic tech world. There is a extraplane plague that destroyed the most advanced civilizations. Elfs, goblins orcs and other fantasy creatures exist in it.

Most current civilization is organized in towns the bigger towns havinng artilary defense placement to protect against infected creep attacks and other people. There is also mafia groups.
>>
>>2437713
not shopping blind, its just that our main characters are more or less well, our ammo levels are OK, we can't waste much money on the newbs because they have dues to pay, and it seems like the world we are going is in some industrial/pre industrial level combined with steampunk. Anyone but mono shouldn't have problems dealing with that world under their own power.

I'd be leery of thinking it's adequate, when we only have 30 shots from the Pepper Stone, and no grenades.
Also only 8 Proximity Mines when our job is defense seems inadequate. We should also be looking into proximity alarm units. Purely technological ones will probably be easier to hide than magitech ones, since the opposition will expect magitech.

Ok first off, I think we can do without playing dress-up. It'll take too much time to get a consensus and everyone's base stats are enough to alter them when stepping out.

>>
>>2437764
>IIRC that's the weapon type she has the best affinity with
Actually, it's Energy Weapons, for some strange reason.
So a plasma carbine, and maybe a recharger for the power cells. Something that can take in Mana and convert it into whatever energy is needed, with the appropriate interface, like one of those universal power adapters you see at airports for international business travelers.
>>
>>2437766
>Yes to all but they are rare to find or must be scrouged from old ruins.

>>
>>2437773
Yes we are going to need a good supply of ammo, our modern weapons won't work with the stuff in their clockwork rifles. They shoot lead pellets and crap but the MC of the quest has manufactured a desert eagle and a sniper rifle using regular metal jacket rounds.

That's what happens when you roll 100+ with modifiers. Every. Single. Time

>>2437783
Well... that gives us some details on what to dress as.
Gasmasks mandatory, design varying.
... at least to complete the looks.
We have that powerarmour for Miranda...
But what about Owlia and Cyclia?
Owlia will have those gems in their looks, so something to build on there...
Cyclia the high standing looks...
Mono? Heck. What to pick for them? Some Scout or wanderer design would be pretty neat.

... and then there was the question of stats.
Should get THOSE down.
>>
>>2437783
Qm made a pretty descent sum up.

>Locomotive Access

NO NEVER AGAIN! Stupid trains!
>>
>>2437778
When the quest last left off, the groups are:

An Ancient Evil Vampire and they're all fucking immortal. They got zombies, thralls and both minor and major vampires.

Shirahoro government. Samurai with swords and rifles, currently being outfitted with silvered and fire enchanted blades and bullets.

Gambino mafia. In cahoots with vampires, resources unknown.

Mafia MC is "not" affiliated with that I have forgotten the name of. Same as the government, both being supplied by the MC. May have magitech goodies squirreled away, unknown.

And lastly there's the magical super-plague with demons, monsters and all-consuming corruption bullshit plus blood magic which is a big "oh no no", vampires have access to this.

Flamethrowers encouraged.
>>
If the locals don't have magitech surveillance and recon constructs, then we should consider getting one or two. How hard can it be to buy a pair of Pelican drone analogues and a solar charger at the Intersection?

We should see if Kowalski gives discounts on bulk explosives orders, too.

And that Magical Viral Apocalypse and plagued creatures still running around makes me think we should consider what we can do in regards to medical equipment/spells.
>>
>>2437786
Most of the time artillery is focused in the defense of a city. We are going to ruin dive. But i don't expect to find magitech tanks or that kind of stuff. At least not working or not in a plague infested ruin.
>>
>And that Magical Viral Apocalypse and plagued creatures still running around makes me think we should consider what we can do in regards to medical equipment/spells.

No dude that demonic plague end of the world bullshit. You burn that shit and kill the infected that's the only way. Also don't use blood magic or let that thing infest a corpse.

As anons said here:>>2437794 Flamethrowers are highly encouraged
>>
The plague is our biggest problem. We hazmat suits and TONS of incendiary ammunition, as well as anti-undead. Silver and phosphorous or something.

We should check the weapon shop for blade oils with anti-undead properties or have our weapons enchanted. This is something Izumi should know about.
>>
>>2437794
Now I'm wondering who hired us. Might be fun to be going against the MC. Are they superspecialsnowflake tier in power level?
>>
>>2437810
what is the plague? it turns you into a zombie or something like that?
>>
>>2437812
I don't think there exists and "superspecialsnowflake" MC in ANY quests that went more than 10 threads. If there is then... shesh.

Unless you count joke characters of course, but their main sellingpoint is that they ARE overpowerd, but don't use their full potential.
>>
>>2437809
I'm saying that we need medical gear for US, in case of infection by traps or ancient vampires being assholes.

>>2437810

The virus is apparently extra-dimensional in origin, meaning it's able to infect people from other universes.

The only defense or medical care they have against the plague is, "Burn everything!" is the only way to make it sure that shit doesn't spread. This include infected. Although some that are cut by infected just take longer to loose to the disease.

Flamebringer? Yes++++
>>
>>2437862
eeh. i'm pretty sure the intersection can deal with that, otherwise sal wouldn't have accepted the job.

Cool. Also thinking about it, isn't our Energy Channel burning in nature? Wouldn't that count?
>>
>>2437867

>>
>>2437815
Plague is some kind of Umbrella Corp shit that destroyed civilization and turned the whole world into medieval post-apoc. That's all we know about it unfortunately. It spreads like Zerg creep, consumed and corrupt everything that comes into contact with it.

>>2437822
Yeah, I know it is meta. Hope Sal can give some more answers.
>>
Might be rather repetetive now but...

What do we want to dress as?
And the stats? Humerous? Outlandish?

Outlandish might work pretty well for someone like Owlia... Crystals in head and all.
>>
>>2437865
Or the ruin isn't in one of the infected areas. That could be something too. But with vampires doing blood magic nothing stop then from aluh ackbahr the hangar so the others factions don't get it.

Also some places migth have bloodmagic runes around so killing everyone might be bad but then again we can't worry about everything.

So my idea goes to Hazmat suits. Lots and lota of incendiary stuff. And ammunition.
>>
>>2437865
>otherwise sal wouldn't have accepted the job.
Sal doesn't think like a human, and has been known in the past to not tell Miranda important info because she didn't ask.
>>
>>2437877
Miranda and Zumi go for intimidating mercs. Not sure about the others. Judging by the gear we 're planning on they might not be able to afford a new look. Could loan them or stuff though
>>
>>2437877
I want us to look like a team of hardasses. Go for E in Humor and the rest is w/e, that'll show them!
>>
>>2437877
Intimidating and Otherworldly might be good because of the extradimensional help that the client requested, and to look intimidating so that they believe they're getting their money's worth.
>>
>>2437877
does it matter in this specific case? we're gonna be defending, so if we go looking goofy it will be to our advantage because they will underestimate us, and we will run them down. If we go looking serious, they will bring their big guns and we will run them down. I feel its a moot point.

>>2437886
But bringing a mutagenic virus to the intersection is something that affects him economically. Imagine if that shit spreads out; Sal would have to pay the damages, and dealmakers hate that.
>>
>>2437877
I think we should just mostly stick to what we have. Miranda is your no-nonsense leader with typical milspec gear, Izumi is the professional Scout, Mono is the wilderness tracker with probably some sort of long fur coat or something, Cylica has the whole Court Mage thing going on, and Owlia... well, she does have that armor. So maybe that. But that's not as funny as I like to imagine Hoots.
>>
>>2437877
Cilyca and Owlia = High elves

Miranda and Izumi = Mercs in power armour

Momo = Someone from the badlands i think a ligth power armour or the ranger combat armour from new vegas
>>
>>2437896
Well Mono got her deal with the ears and stuff... also giant fucking ham hands.
Owlia with her crystal in her forehead...

I think we got a few points at the ready, but I think I'd wait for MGHandler to post the list...

Unless... someone else got the list?

Maybe from previous instances? Pastebin?

Hmm, lets put miranda, mono and izumi the same clothes they had when we dealt with the power thief. And for Owlia and Cylica...i don't know, but they should have some income and some clothes via the lock deal and their own adventures. Unless Owlia did make a deal with sal for the gauntlet, in that case i don't know.

Everyone other than Owlia is pretty intimidating already so that would be the cheap option, plus our client will probably be impressed. Problem is that Owlia sticks out like a nail so by law of every universe she will get singled or in fights. Could loan her our power armour so she blends in better then spend most of our motes on gear.
>>
>>2438086
Sounds good to me
>>
>>2438086
that also works.
...

wait a moment. Could lorelei interact with the power helmet AI?
>>
>>2437891
This works. No one needs to buy any new clothing, not with dues coming up.

Mono could stand to have some spare Mana crystals, but she doesn't have a bag of holding, and those are expensive.

We should take a look around th Depot for cheap quick defenses and traps, quick-building fortifications and simple mines and tripwires and such. Also, seeing as we're dealing with a potential viral-Flood thing, a flamethrower or other incendiaries would be nice.
>>
Guys we're missing some critical information here. What's the transmission vector? Airborne, waterborne, carrier based, etc. Them there's ease of infection, is it simple skin contact, blood transmission (via open wounds or ingestion/absorption) or something else.
In case of the airborne then we need either air tanks or magic filters to scrub everything other than air out. (Mask filters are pretty specialized in what they filter)
Waterborne (doubt) we can work around by bringing a ton of water in the BoH
For contact variations we're going to need the classic "Don't get hit" + armor.
>>
>>2438111
It's like... all except airborne. Pretty sure skin contact is more than enough. It's some bad stuff but it has never been said to spontaneously corrupt someone from breathing.

If you're near it, you run away. If you touch it, you are purged with fire.
>>
>>2438111
Based on what I've read of the quest so far, seems to be contact-based, then corrupts and takes over the body. Hazmat suits would likely keep it out, but you can't really fight in those, and they can't take a hit anyway. Reminds me a lot of Halo's flood, actually.

Maybe look into gas masks (cover our bases) and a repulsor of some kind, something repeatable we can use to for it to keep its distance (pulse rifle, shockwave generator, etc.)
>>
>>2438141
what about going to the local pharmacy/medical center and see what options they have?
i'm sure they'll have something that will keep the disease out.
>>
>>2438140
I wish Miranda has starte trying to figure out that mana flamethrower idea earlier. Ah well, this ought to provide good motivation to work on it at least
>>
>>2438147
>>2437853
>>
>>2438147
From the descriptions and the quest threads, no they don't.
If you come into contact with it you're considered lost and are purged with fire.
There is no cure, no treatment, no defense other than scorched earth and fire.
>>
>>2438141
Miranda's Energy Channel should be able to keep her safe, but the other girls should have some kind of rubber or plastic catsuit under their clothes.

>>2438147
We need to look for magical purifiers and scrubbers at the intersection. Honestly the intersection should have a stock of anything you would see in a jrpg. Elixirs, antidotes and be-gones that work on everything. Spray bottles with medical nanomachines.
>>
>>2438147
I don't think the locals have anything close to a cure, but we should check and see what we can find before we leave. This can't be the only place Outgoers go that have plague issues.
>>
>>2438163
>. Elixirs, antidotes and be-gones that work on everything. Spray bottles with medical nanomachines.
If they aren't too expensive, we should grab more than we expect we need; they could be worth a lot in a barter with the locals, assuming we can prove to them they work.
>>
>>2438160
>>2438157
yes, in that world. but we are in the intersection, the in between of all universes. i guess i didn't make myself clear, but we should look in the intersection's medical facilities to see what stuff they can sell to us, because i doubt they haven't seen something like this before.

>>
Ok to do list:
>lend some intimidating clothes to Owlia
>see if we can buy full body clothing/armor to somewhat avoid contamination (gasmasks and what not)
>buy Hyperspace bags and murmur stones to our three newbies
>buy weaponry (flame based?)
>See if Owlia and Cylica can develop some crystals for us, especially replicate the runes we got from the magical mafia world + Flight or barrier gems
>speaking of runes, Randa should keep one from the guy we rolled nat 20s(or was it 19)
>Get some combat and medical training for all of us
>Visit the potion shops, pharmacies or hospitals regarding air borne magical corrupting viruses
What else we need and need to do?
>>
>>2439441
I'll quibble on the bags of holding, they're not cheap, dues are comming up, and they can stick stuff in one of the existing bags for this mission if they need to.

Otherwise, looks good.
>>
>>2439441
Breaking down your weaponry point into:

>plasma carbine for mono
>incendiary ammunition for the rest of us
>some kind of coats or oils to add fire property to our melee blades.
Maybe enchantments? Depends on the price I guess.

>Some sort of recon drone or remote surveillance cameras.

If Owlia and Cylica can whip up crystals that we can charge with Miranda's Light Trap and/or Zone Scanner, that would be sweet.
>>
>>2439509
And type of energy weapon really, something for her MASSIVE HAM HANDS.
Overall, Fire really seems to be a go, though we should go for anti personal and armour stuff too, in case of... anything else, really.
>>2439441
Anti contamination gear as is would be great, maybe less potion, more trinket type.
Aside from that...

We still have to deal with our stats, so...
Guess We'll wait on Handler on that.
>>
>>2439473
Mono, I understand, but aren't Owlia and Cylica getting lots of cash from that crystal tech company?
Oh well, they can try to develop a crystal version of the bag of holding when we get back from this.or let us see if there are cheaper alternatives in another shop like Io’s Potpourri(although it says in the description that her stuff can get expensive)
>>
>>2439441
i completely agree with buying murmur stones to the rest of the team and lend owlia some clothes (although im pretty sure she has more money than miranda at this point), but >>2439473 is right, we can't buy hyperspace bags because everyone has to pay their dues. The same goes to buying flaming weapons. after all, we just need to incapacitate the attacker, not destroy the disease they have.
On that point, i can only agree with the general idea of buying something to counter the virus, but not a hazmat suit or something that can be compromised by a sharp stick. Most of the team is most effective at melee range, and a hazmat suit or gas mask will at the very least slow down them, and at worst, break down and infect the person. Also, vaccines are a thing; there has to be something along those lines that can help us.
tl; dr
>Lets loan Owlia some clothes (if she can't afford her own)
>Buy murmur stones for the rest of the team
>Lets check in the intersection medical center if they have an all purpose virus vaccine or medical nanobots or something(leve the physical defenses as last resort)
>Maybe buy Mono a plasma or a laser gun, IF they are cheap enough.
>>
>>2439550
I don't think we need to bother much with our stats. Like someone said above we lend Cylica our power armor to switch her intimidation and humor around. That should be enough.

Saying again that the crystal company Owlia is part-time at should have a good inventory for us to browse. With regen at 4000/day we can use nebula buster once per day should buy crystals that can store spells, like ye olde magic wands.

I still want
>medical nanomachines
Spray or slap patch, either's fine
that shit should scrub off this plague a-ok.
>>
>>2439567
yup pretty much instead of plasma why not just a good old flamethrower?
>>
Doesn't Izumi have an armory in her apartment? We should ask her if she can lend some(the cheaper weapons so that she won't worry) to the newbies.
>>
I'm back, and WOW, that's a lot of discussion. But it seems like my warnings mostly got heeded, and a couple of anons did the nice thing and summed it all up for me, which I appreciate. So, it seems we're doing

>>2439441
>>2439509
>>2439567

Which is far easier to work with. Going to go down the list in order. Let's do this thing.

Writing!
>>
>>2439594
because flamethrowers aren't flexible enough. a laser or plasma gun, hell, a normal gun is more effective at killing things in different scenarios than a flamethrower. The only reason we want the flaming weapons is to deal with the infection, and we are going to deal with that with a vaccine or a spell, or something of the sort.

>>2439597
Good point, we can ask izumi if she can loan an energy rifle to mono
>>
>>2439594
The plasma carbine is because 1) it will incinerate anything and 2) when we took Mono to the shooting range that was the sort of weapon she was most proficient with.
Remember she has big, furry pawsies and energy weapons lack recoil.
>>
>>2439594
In theory, for the same reasons you'd use a shotgun over a rifle; general purpose vs specialization.

If that is the hangup, we ought to look for something with a variable focus. Tight beam for long range work, wide angle for close quarters.
>>
The next day, the chosen of you meet in front of the HQ. “Alright, everyone got their shopping lists?” A group of nods and confirmations; excellent. “Okay, if anyone has anything in particular they want to ask about or otherwise mention, now's the time. I’ve got a couple, but I’m letting anyone else go first.”

Izumi’s the first to speak up. “Owlia? Out of curiosity, what do you have in the way of weaponry or armor?”

“On me?” She shrugs. “Got my staff and my old armor, and I got a smaller collapsible wand that I use as a sidearm sometimes.” Ugh, wands? “Why, you think I might need something else?”

Izumi shakes her head. “That should be fine, I suppose…”

That mask covered your entire head, correct?”

“I’ve got an attachment I could put on,” she confirms.

“Then there shouldn’t be any concern,” Izumi decides.

“Anyone else?” A group of shaking heads.

“Alright, then. I’ve taken the liberty of writing up a general shopping list for stuff everyone needs. Newbies need Murmur Stones for communication and Bags. Considering that this place is supposed to be post apoc due to a corrupting virus, I was thinking about getting us a set of general purpose medical supplies. Magical and Non-magical in nature. Owlia, Cylica, how’s the sigil reverse-engineering going?”

“Ah yes, that little project,” Cylica notes. “I’m happy to say that dearest and I have cracked the basics of that little craft- although they’ll need mana infused to make them work properly, and it seems as though that, outside of their own world, they’re a touch less effective…”

“That, and there's a time limit,” Owlia adds. “So once you pop one, you better use it. We’ve tried infusing mana while the sigils are active, but that tended to result in a rather, uh... explosive failure. We’ve got a few basic runes if you wanna bring ‘em; Speed, Strength, Defense. But personally I’d feel more comfortable with crystals.”

“Then get ‘em after we get back,” you decide. “Okay, so, for the murmur stones, bags, and estimated general purpose potions and elixirs pack I got here...total comes to 20.60 Large Motes. Four apiece sound good between you newbies, everyone splits the rest, too?” Again, a set of confirmations. “Great. I’ll put in the orders for those right now. So let’s get some damn guns.”

Current Motes:
> Miranda: 55.20 M (L)
> Izumi: 51.19 M(L)
> Cylica: 55.1 M (L)
> Owlia: 54.70 M (L)
> Mono: 29.60 M (L)

All things considered, you managed to steer them towards incendiary ammunition and weapons. you had a couple of tricks of your own, but that wouldn't cover for everyone just in case that virus got into play.

Lorenzo’s didn’t DO sales, the lout.

Kowalski’s, on the other hand, DID. Sometimes.

>Flamethrower: Tactical gas-based flamethrower. Nothing special, but hardy and had a long stream. Comes with a tank of gas gratis, but others cost extra.
>Flamethrower gas tank: 90 Small Motes

>N5 Plasma Rifle: Blue, thick, long-barreled for a rifle, it nonetheless seems to do the job of firing superheated plasma very well. It's got the possibility of overheating, but in general it has a high energy output- but high battery usage, as well.
>Cost: 8 Large Motes, 15% discount for purchases of 3 or more.

>N5 Plasma Carbine: Short-barreled version of an N5 Plasma Rifle. The energy output and fire rate is inferior to that of its big sister, but it also has less chance of overheating.
Cost: 6 Large Motes

>ZX Hotshot: Something more a bazooka than a rifle, it fires a single metal sphere at a time- which explodes after a predetermined distance or upon impact into a large ball of superheated plasma, flash frying anything in 4 meters, and seriously heating up the area for anything in 10. Another downside being that it requires ammo- expensive ammo.
>Cost: 7 Large Motes
>Ammo Cost: 1 Large Mote per Shot.

>The mines (http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/qstarchive/1133809/#p1141235) and other gear is still in stock, as well...

As for the ammunition...

>Incendiary Assault Rifle Ammunition: 1.5 M (L) per magazine (100 Rounds)
>Incendiary Pistol Ammunition: 60m per magazine (80 Rounds)
>Incendiary Sniper Ammunition: 2.5M per Set (50 rounds)

It’s clear Kowalski is doing brisk business. Good for him...you guess.

you DO have a Condenser, already. Kowalski doesn't carry converters, however- when you ask, he claims it's because they're 'too finicky dependin' on the person' and he doesn't trust them.' As for fusion converters...he might have a couple in the back, but he doesn't get requests for them often. He can look (roll for it) but Io's might be a better bet in that case.

>>2439979
After looking around a bit after you tell him, he ruffles around behind his countertop and pulls out a set of five red stones, granular and coarse to the touch. "Somethin' like this? It's fire-element, I know that much. Dunno how your shotgun works, but might be right about what you need. It's a fragile thing, though, got a couple of 'em and they never sold. I jus' used em to keep myself warm in the back- got a magic-permeable fireplace so the magic goes off inside, and the heat comes OUTside. Clever, right?!" He laughs a bit, then straightens up. Like I said, I couldn't get rid of 'em, but I DO like my free heat, sooo...howsabout...

>50m a pop, eh?

"Can't tell you honestly how much juice they got in em, though."

>>2439929
>1x N5 Plasma Carbine

>2 incendiary magazines for Miranda's pistol

>2 incendiary magazines for Izumi's assault rifle. Girl knows how to use semi-auto

Izumi already have 20 phosphorous ammo for her sniper rifle, you think that's enough? Otherwise throw in 1 box of ammo for her.

>6L Mono

The fusion generator recharges any energy cell we hook up to it, and considering that Mono is really only good with Energy Weapons, that's what she needs since she can't fire off magi-beams like Miranda and Izumi, and doesn't have a wand like Owlia and Cylica.
>>
Locked. We're getting it.

Current Motes:

>Are you buying extra clothes, or going with what you have for everyone?

I think that should be it beyond retrieving your crystals in terms of prep.
>>
>>2440313
i know, but i still don't think its worth it when we have more options that will gain priority over the flamethrower.
>>
>>2440341
Flamethrowers can be acquired on-site from local sources.

>>2440332
We still needed medical equipment and research further on the local apocalypse so that we're better prepared.
>>
>>2440322
surely it'd be much cheaper and easier to simply buy more batteries? They aren't listed, but they can't be more than a couple of dozen S Motes apiece. Otherwise, Mono will have a mag or two to shoot, then wait for them to recharge before she can use her rifle again.

>>2440332
No, no more spending any more money on marginally useful things please.
>>
>>2440332
You got us general purpose elixirs and potions, but I know some people wanted technological solutions like a nano-medkit.
>>
>>2440353
As long as they cure the plague, and we have several does each, and they didn't cost an arm and a leg, does it matter how they work?
>>

And we'll have more faith in the the tech variants because...?
>>
>>2440378
Because nanites can physically destroy a virus and intrusions to the body.
Given that the locals have magic and still couldn't cure the plague, a technological solution may work where a magical one has failed.
>>
>>2440391
>Because nanites can physically destroy a virus and intrusions to the body.
And magic can't?
Whatever magic we bring to a world doesn't have much of anything to do with the world's magic; Mana is the only connecting thread.
>>
“Alright, let’s see here…” you consider as you browse the Multiversal Medical Supplies inventory. It was pretty much the biggest generalist store in The Intersection, carrying a variety of both technological and magical remedies for just about any ailment, and frankly, you were pretty sure that if this didn't have what you needed, chances are nothing did...or nothing that you can find easily at the very least, or for less money…

You say that because YIKES, these things are expensive.

Regardless, there seem to be some potential tinctures and tonics that catch your eye…

>Angel Eyes Ointment: An ointment that claims to be able to heal any skin-based disease in a matter of hours. Simply apply to affected area and rub thoroughly ‘Skin Rot, Stoneskin, Slimeskin, and more!’
>Cost: 5 Large Motes

>Phoenix Wing Rejuvenation Pills: A bottle of pills to restore your energy in a flash, or supercharge your body for those intense tasks! Comes in 10 and 20 pill variants. (Warning: does not restore mana, may cause dizziness and hyperactivity if user takes more than 2 per day.)
>Cost: 8 Large (10 Pill) 13 Large (20 Pill)

>Ceelie’s Organic Nanobinding Spray: A spray that can bind together even the worst lacerations without fail! Guaranteed to be non-toxic within most organic beings! Warning: Do not utilize on natural separations of the body: Mouth, Nose, etc.
>Cost: 6 Large Motes

>Virus Buster Cleansing NanoFluid!: A ‘drink’ of sorts that’s purported to be able to clear any unnatural intrusions from the body of any organic being. Warning: User must drink One (1) cap full prior to exposure to virus for maximum effect. Side effects include nausea, stomach ache, vomiting, lightheadedness.
>Cost: 9 Large Motes

>Fusi-bind Adhesive Medical Strips: A clear colored roll of bandaging that can take upon the coloration and texture of its user’s natural skin tone, blending in perfectly in order to hide an injury and emitting a small tenzing fluid to allow the affected area to heal faster than normal.
>Cost: 2 Large Motes per roll

Hazmat suits wouldn't really hold up. When you ask about protective bubbles actually worth their salt, although they exist, they're expensive (north of 20 motes), and your rank isn't high enough to have access to them.

Now that i think about it, this is a nice business opportunity.
In a nutshell: With the can nanobots that lorelei brought, we could reprogram them to a specific body(say Miranda's) and order them to attack any foreign agent that doesn't fit under a predetermined list. We could make some money if we are capable of creating it and mass producing it..

Shaking your head, you decide against any of them. the too expensive, and not quite what you would hope for. You're just going to have to make sure that if you encounter this virus, that all and sundry stay well clear of it.

About a couple of hours later, everyone's back at headquarters. “Alright, I think we’re all good?”

“Really hope I can use this thing right…” Mono says, still getting used to the carbine’s heft.

“I think we’re all prepared,” Izumi says. “Mono, Owlia, Cylica, have you stored your gear in your bags yet?”

“Sure have!” Owlia says cheerfully. “Also packed those crystals you wanted. I've got three shield shards and a strength crystal for now.”

“I’ve an Agility Crystal, myself,” Cylica says. “I’ve also two Spare Strength shards. I wish I had more, but Crystalock are...surprisingly clever with how they claim ownership over goods.” You’re honestly surprised she doesn't sound more upset. “I’ll have to imitate those tactics…”

...Right. “Alright, then. Get outfitted up, and we’ll send word to Sal.”

...You really, really hope this job works out.

‘This is boooooound to be ever-so-interesting, don’t you think?’

“You ALWAYS think that, Sal.”

‘And it’s always truuuuuuuuue!’

Damnit.

Why is it that we can never do our homework and get intel on local conditions and problems BEFORE we arrive and have to deal with shit?
>>

Looks like the Farsights can't give you more details other than the basics, and Dealmakers don't care because they are eldritch beings to begin with.

>>2440697

Tell Sal that if anyone gets sick because he didn't think to learn about the local Doomsday virus, that we're going to start writing up a company medical plan, and he'll be responsible for it.

You're not gone just yet.

But actual answer, because that's just what you got. Situations tend to be malleable once on the ground, and things change. The 'sights aren't Omnipotent nor is their data always 100% accurate at all times.

Meta answer is because you guys tend to overprep already so I don't honestly feel the NEED to give you much more. You're usually loaded for bear regardless of what intel I give you.
>>
>>2440709
>Looks like the Farsights can't give you more details other than the basics
See, that's not how they were originally pitched. They're supposed to have entire universal libraries stuffed into them, and can provide enough knowledge, schematics, and how-to videos for someone from a backwater steampunk world with no access to industrial chip foundries to build automated laser turrets and the beginnings of an inter-dimensional portal.

You're right, and I apologize. But I honestly expected you to use them more on the ground than beforehand, and that presumption was an oversight on my part. As much as I enjoy preptime, like I said, you guys tend to prep for any possibility regardless, and sometimes I feel like things are dragging on because you've ALREADY got contingencies for everything I have planned for you regardless of you actually looking it up or not. Hence I tend to kinda just nudge things along.

But seriously, why wouldn't we try to overprep, as a professional? Going in without extra equipment and a plan to kill everyone we meet is the kind of behavior you expect from a kid fresh out of college. I know that after 10 years of experience, I go in with at least 2 backup plans and a double-checked checklist. Because I'm a goddamn professional.
I kind of expect a 90-year old professional mercenary to be the same.

It's a long running tradition for players overprep as much as possible. Take a look at the early threads of Totemist Quest RIP or some of the old stories about D&D players.

We're just trying to be the professional. I geddit though, with us being magical Batman eventually the only way to pose a challenge is to go DBZ and create bullshit power creep which is difficult to do well or make entertaining.
This is what happens when you let players live in what is essentially The Shopping Mall at the End of the Universe. If it has anything and everything in the multiverse, obviously we're gonna look for them.

Know what you can do? Word of God that items that are beyond the job's tech level a) will not work, or b) restricted by the Dealmakers because they have a policy of not introducing technology. They'll just poof it from your inventory before you arrive and/or make it inert. FarSight excluded. Option C) is that you have to pay up your nose, per item, to waiver the policy. We already know what happens if you lose Intersection tech on other worlds. Biometric locks that self destruct them Doctor Gadget style if they are handled by natives?

---------

Next a question on the crossover. You said you will be in the background of things, which is fair since the leapfrogging in the previous one made it go slow as heck. I'm just curious if you are going to write updates together on Etherpad or GoogleDoc. Like, he writes the updates and you support with dialogue in real time? Seems to me that would be the quickest way to keep all characters, well, in character and less time spent scratching heads, emulating writing style and asking questions.
>>
>>2441644
Or, instead of restricting the items that the players can use, make the opposition smarter in the use of local resources and technology/magic.
Don't let them fumble with the idiot ball, make them just as professional and ruthless as Miranda, with the Evil Overlord List poster on their office wall. Make NPC's LIE to the players.

With that said, Outgoers are hired specifically because they're overwhelmingly powerful and prepared compared to the locals. It's part of what we are, the reason for our employment.

It'd be like hiring a PMC to protect a convoy, but the company tells their employees they can only do it using equivalent equipment to the insurgents, and they'll be penalized for bringing in better weapons and equipment.
>>
>>2441660
Of course but there is only so far a competent a less powerful or advanced can go up against a person who can nuke an entire city twice per day. We already get told how to do our jobs with riders like no casualties and no collateral. This is not that much different.

It is why power levels suck.

I just want to bring all the big guns and finish a job in half a day but that doesn't make for a very fun or engaging story
>>
>>2441644
I'll keep that in mind.

--------

And yeah, you pretty much nailed it. Although it may not always be in real time.
>>
>>2441664
>there is only so far a competent a less powerful or advanced can go up against a person who can nuke an entire city twice per day.
That's the entire point of the existence of our profession, though. We're SUPPOSED to be untouchable by the competent yet less advanced/powerful locals; that's the entire point of us being hired for most of our contracts.
The other types want deniable yet competent assets, and there's nothing more deniable than operators that will literally leave your universe after the job is done.

I don't feel that even more limiting of our abilities and equipment options for the sake of game balance would help make this more fun or engaging.
>>
>>2441669
Truly the best conflict here is conflicting goals, abstract goals, risking client happiness/objectives for sweet loot, or collateral damage riders.

Like.

If we HAD robbed that Casino, we might have got more money than we were paid from that alone.
>>
>>2441682
>Truly the best conflict here is conflicting goals, abstract goals, risking client happiness/objectives for sweet loot, or collateral damage riders.
Yes, that's the kind of game balancing I want.

I think it's come down to preference: whether you prefer game balancing done by direct intervention (removal or restriction of items and abilities to bring us down to the level of the locals) or by indirect methods (conflicting goals, client happiness versus ease of contract completion/acquisition of additional loot).

>I just want to bring all the big guns and finish a job in half a day but that doesn't make for a very fun or engaging story
Why not? While it's still a contract, it can be framed as part of the down-time between big, complex contracts.
Miranda comes in, Nebula Busters some mooks and the cheesy villain to blow off some steam, eats some of the local dishes, picks up a souvenir or two, and then goes back home.
>>
>>2441693
>Why not?
Because this entire discussion came about because we were stopped from doing just that. We've got a truckload of mana though so we'll be able to blow shit up with impunity regardless.

Man I always vote to use nebula buster at least once per gig. I really like being able to show that off.

>Preference
I was making a suggestion to Handler since he wants to limit our options to at least some degree, like never giving us proper briefings and it's a mad scramble to guess what we are going to need. I much prefer when the narrative dictates our options instead of withholding tools from us
