Character info pastebin in progress: http://pastebin.com/iB0tb7rz
Dice odds for best of 3: http://pastebin.com/994WTT3g

General rules:

There is a 10 minute voting period after each post. Non-contradictory votes will be combined as best as possible.
Write-ins for all votes are always welcome and encouraged. They may not all make it into the post or be altered to fit in, but I'll do my best to at least try to address the spirit of the write-in.

Very important or contentious votes may be redone in a stricter voting system as circumstances warrant.

Combat mechanics involve three rolls of 1d100, taking the best, and using the base accuracy and crit ranges of the the PTU system, roughly, but the 'turn order' will be more like the anime, where sometimes you can do a few moves in a row or be hit by a combo of moves yourself, all depending on circumstances. Stronger moves tend to take more time and have more cooldown than weaker moves and also may leave you open to an interrupt, so beware of that timing. Speed is more important for closing ground, intercepting, and other things and doesn't necessarily mean going first.

Pokemon and trainers are unique, and may have certain specializations, skills, or other things that the video-game mechanics might not allow. Some examples: That kung fu Bellsprout in the anime, that crystal Onix, or a Roggenrolla that can fly. Herb's perception skills, pokemon knowledge, context clues in general, and other things will hopefully come into play to avoid completely unfair, unforeseeable bullshit, but expect more bullshit from more advanced trainers.

Call me out on a mistake and receive a suggestive picture, mostly likely a butt.

Pokemon:
Gobble (Munchlax)
Mace (Roggenrola)
Belladonna (Roserade)
Dice (Croconaw)
Sorbet (Vulpix)

Location: Akaneki, at a beach not far from Laki's parent's house.

Recently: You and Abigail hung out, you trained, and there were moves exchanged between Mace and Gardevoir

Laki, and Hana come running over to find you holding Gardevoir on the beach. The next little bit of time consists of you explaining the situation to them and they just sort of takes it in while patting sand off of you and the pokemon.

“So it was just a misunderstanding then, and nobody got hurt, right?” Laki says, a lot less concern in her voice now. You suppose you can’t blame her, given your life recently.

“Um, yeah. That’s right.”

“Abigail said she’d meet us at the house.” Laki relays. “Which is almost as worrying as this.” She then gestures to the long line of sand displaced by Mace’s attack.

Mace barely pulls his attention towards everyone starting at it before getting lost in thoughts again.

“Are you sure everyone’s okay?” Hana asks privately.

“Physically.” You say, looking around.

Gardevoir approaches. The distance between her and you and Hana seems to have made no difference to whether she heard her. “I am sorry. I promise not to cause further issues tonight.” She bows “If I’m still welcome.”

Hana grabs Gardevoir’s hand before anyone can even speak. “Of course you're always welcome. Right everyone?” She doesn’t even look back for an answer. Everyone nods and agrees after a second. “So you’re not a burden, okay? We like having you! You’re one of us! The group is better for having you in it.”

You and Laki are a bit surprised at Hana’s sudden intensity, but it seems to work. Gardevoir looks much more at ease. Mace looks like he’s shaken off a lot of his shock too, but he also doesn’t look particularly lively. Still, he’s acting like things are relatively normal and okay.

“Soft Hands, we don’t have to go tonight.” Laki pats you on the back. “If you’re busy and all.”

You look for your pokedex and see Gobble still holding it. He’s pointing at the time. You’re already going to be a little late, but any further delays will make you very late.

You glance over to Mace. There’s a distinct lack of pep in his step, but he looks ready to go with everyone else. He probably just wants to get on with things and not dwell on this moment too much. Or maybe he’s hurt but he doesn’t want to show it.

“He hasn’t decided.” Laki tells Hana, answering a question Hana didn’t ask out loud. You can sense a little tension in her voice. “We can still make it if we really run hard and take a shortcut. Might get a bit...branchy, though.”

For the first time you notice the nice clothes Laki and Hana have on. Not formal, but pretty proper looking. Well, Hana’s sweater and pants are a little strangely lumpy and loose, but it looks respectful as a choice of clothes, anyway. You on the other hand, look a bit rough. A few small rips and light stains on your clothes have managed to get on due to recent events and even all the tricks you know are starting to not be enough. You don’t exactly look like you got dressed in a dumpster, but running through branches might not help.

“You guys go ahead.” You say, looking at Mace. “I’m really sorry Laki. I’ll be there as soon as I can. Just a few minutes late.”

Her face goes through a journey of emotions, but she settles on putting a hand on your shoulder and trying not to look to worried. “I understand. I’m sure they will too.” That last line sounded a little odd. “Don’t worry about it.”

“Thanks.” You mean it.

“No big deal.” You hope she means that. Laki hands you her pokedex just in case you need to make more calls.

Laki and Hana go ahead without you. Hana gives Mace a nice hard scratch on her way past him, which he seems to appreciate a bit.

As the girls leave, you settle in next to Mace. He looks concerned. Aren’t we supposed to go somewhere in a hurry?

“Hey Mace. I wanted to talk first.” You put a hand on his head.

He doesn’t oppose it, but he really seems to think you should be moving.

“Are you doing okay?”

He isn’t really sure how to answer that. Or at least, in any detailed way. From what you can figure out from his gestures and noises is that he’s okay for the time being. Maybe he’s being tough for your sake or maybe he doesn’t want to talk about it. Or maybe he just feels he can handle it for the time being and doesn’t want to be a distraction. He’s also pretty reserved compared to others sometimes and might just need a little more encouragement to open up.

Well, translation has been a lot of help with more nuanced ideas.

For instance, Bella calling us “Papa” specifically.

Though to be clear, I’m in favor of getting that translation from Gardevoir.

“Well, being on time is important, but there are more important things to me.” You say, patting him on the head again. You figure you should be honest and open with him if you’d ask it from him. “I’m a little worried about you, and I’d like to talk about it if it’s okay with you. I won’t force you though.”

He sighs. He looks around again, and changing his mind, he relents. He tries to communicate some complicated ideas that aren’t translating as easily as you’d hoped.

“Gardevoir, Can I ask you a favor?” You call out to her.

Mace gives you a look. The intent behind this one is as clear as day, though. “What are you doing?”

“She can help.” You say “She likes helping.”

He relents again, but he’s clearly uncomfortable. Gardevoir seems a little uncomfortable now too, but that could just be Mace, because she seemed to like the idea a second ago.

“Young Master you’re too concerned with me.” He says through Gardevoir’s words. “I will be fine.”

“That makes it sound like you’re not fine right now.” You tell him, promising yourself you won’t push him any further than this.

“I’ve helped let my failures to protect you before shape my judgement and attacked a good pokemon.” He, and she says. It could be your imagination, but her voice went a little funny when she translated that good pokemon part. “Not only that, but despite your teachings and my new ability, I still felt the need to evolve to try to protect you.” He confesses. “I could sense it. I’m not sure if I’m more disturbed that I felt the need to do it so strongly, or that I selfishly didn’t. I directed all that energy at Gardevoir, and I’m so glad she’s alright, but there’s also a part of me worried that I was unable to hurt her further. I feel terrible for worrying about that as well. And now I have become a burden, interfering with your mating process.”

It seems weird to hear those words from her voice.

Mace stops talking. You guess he’s communicated his situation. It sounds like a complicated mess of thoughts. You think it over for a minute before Gardevoir asks “Did you wish to respond?”

Mace looks a little better at being able to just let that all out.

>Hug Mace. You don't have answers but you can offer that.
>All’s well that ends well. Encourage him that he’ll be able to let it go little by little over time
>Mace is a gentle soul. You bet he subconsciously tried not to hurt her that much

“Mace. I think you made the right call.” You say.

Mace and Gardevoir both look to you, then each other. Like they’re trusting each other’s ears more than their own because they just hear you say something so odd.

“With the information you had at the time!” You quickly realize you need to add. “You didn’t know what was happening, but you took control of the situation and stopped what was going on. If someone was in danger you would have saved the day.”

“I...would not mind you understanding me better. Perhaps it would make me understand myself, and you understand yourself.” She says.

Her voice, but Mace’s words, reply. “I understand myself perfectly well.”

To which she responds, with a slightly different tone; her own, “then why are you so distraught?”

Mace gives a grumpy huff. “I am not strong or wise enough.”

“Then we’ll just have to grow stronger and wiser together.” You say. It might not be an easy goal, but it’s a simple one. “After all, I’m the one who's supposed to be taking care of you. So if you feel like you need improvement there, then we both could probably use it, right?”

Mace gives a half-hearted response that Gardevoir doesn’t translate. He seems to be okay with that for now. At least, he doesn’t want to push this conversation any further. You can only really hope his words have reached him and that he’ll He’s not singing and dancing, but he seems in a better mood. His lack of enthusiasm for things is lessoned to be mostly reflecting physical tiredness that emotional weight.

You give him a hug, thank Gardevoir for help, and get moving. You don’t take the shortcut because you’d have no idea how to navigate it yourself, so you end up on a longer route.

You’re out of breath and sweaty by the time you get there, but catching it quick enough. Some of your pokemon are breathing heavy too, but some are fine. You check yourself out in the reflection of a window. You’re a bit rough, but how much time do you want to spend fixing yourself up? Your hands are already taking care of the bigger issues.

A round of muffled laughs followed by Laki’s familiar voice protesting something at least assures you that it’s the right house. Gobble looks up, wondering if you want him to knock for you.

You feel all these eyes on you, like you’re being watched and judged. Is that your imagination? Should you just go in?

You don’t waste much time. A quick comb swipe, quick brush down, and a straightening of your shirt. Almost all one motion.

Before you can change your mind, you quickly knock on the door. There’s no running away now.

It takes a minute, but finally, there’s an answer. It’s Laki.

Oh wow. She looks nice.

“Soft Hands. Oh. You look rough in the light.” She glances back. Past her, you can see Abigail also looking really well dressed, flanked on each side by a laughing older couple. They’re going over a photo album. Hana is on the outskirts of the conversation.

Abigail isn’t wearing anything particularly expensive, but she does have on an outfit that says she’s respectable adult professional, despite her small size and childish looking face. You’d never mistake her for a kid. You guess being older is more than just physical growth.

“Is that him?”

Her father, a massive, muscled but still potbellied, bald man looks up, then comes rushing over. It’s only when that happens that you see how short he is. You’re actually taller! Woah!

“He’s here! Let me see!” If Laki gets her thickness from her dad’s side, this tall, but incredibly skinny looking woman is where she gets her height and...upper endowment. Well, Laki isn’t that much taller than you and you can swear you’re catching up, little by little, but that might also just be something your brain is telling itself so you feel better.

Oh no. What do you do? You hold the bread in your hand and try to think. Right. Okay, first, you bow three times. It was three, right? Then, you hold out the bread.

“Hello. I’m Herb. Nice to meet you.”

“Oh! He bought some food on the way and that’s what held him up.” The mom says for you. “Come on, come in.”

“Well, not exactly. I baked it. And I was late because-”

“So do you think my wife can’t cook, or I can’t provide food for my family?” Laki's dad asks in a gruff voice. His eyes glance over you, giving a very obvious look of being unimpressed.

You freeze. Is he joking? Is he offended? Is this just him or did you violate a cultural norm? Your eyes fall to Gardevoir and she’s smiling, but it gives way to apprehension. Probably yours.

Mace slowly waddles to your side. He doesn't seem worried.

>No sir! You didn’t mean to offend, sir. Apologize deeply right away
>Laugh. He almost got you
>This sort of thing is normal in your culture! You swear
>Freeze up and stutter
>Show him how fearless you are right off the bad by joking that he probably doesn’t need it with that belly of his

“I-” You pause for a fraction of a second to make sure your voice doesn’t crack “felt I should bring something. And this is what I’m best at.” Your voice’s earnestness and firmness both hold better than you would expect.

You brace for an explosion, knowing you got it wrong. Of course you did. You just get everything wrong lately and fly by the seat of your pants, don’t you? You just-

“I’m kidding!” The dad shouts. “Good answer though. You've found a patient one!” He slaps you on the arm. "I knew he'd be able to keep his cool if he's tamed you. Besides, I already know my wife can't cook!"

His joke gets him some mostly still lighthearted condemnation from Laki and her mom, who both, for a brief moment, sound and act exactly the same. Somehow you picture your dad in your head telling you to pay attention and how she’ll be more like her mom one day and you’d better not point it out.

“Well if it’s so bad, where did this come from?” Her mom swats at his beer belly.

“That’s core strength!” He protests. “Back me up here, kid.”

“I-”

“Don’t drag the poor boy into it.” The mom protests, unwrapping the bread. “Oh. Bacu bread.”

“Didn’t you bake some for desert?” The dad asks.

“We’ll serve them both. Come on in. Come in. You’ll catch a cold out there.” The mom keeps ushering you in.

“Mom it’s hot out. You have the air conditioner running.”

“Then he’ll catch the flu!” She says, jokingly exasperated. “I’m Wahine and this is Lake.”

“Oh, it sounds a bit like Laki” You comment. You’ve already introduced yourself and don’t want to sound redundant.

“It is. His real name is Laki, but I refused to call him that after he named our poor girl after himself.”

Laki looks legitimately embarrassed. “Mom please no.”

Well, this is a new side to Laki.

Laki fills you in with small tidbits here and here while Abigail recaptures everyone’s attention and you get your shoes off. Abigail is like an entirely different person. Like an adult. She holds the conversation with ease, playfully dangling it and twirling it around for fun. She’s in complete control of the situation.

It turns out Abigail showed up really early and has been doing a surprisingly good job of making her parents happy. Hana looks even more nervous and awkward than you feel, though. She laughs notably late at a joke shared between Abigail and the parents.

“At least Abigail is making a good impression.” You get your shoe off, which Gobble politely takes for you and sets down nicely out of the way.

“Yeah, while collecting embarrassing stories about my childhood and looking through photos!” Laki grinds her teeth. “I’m going to murder her. I’ll put her head between my thighs and just pop that head read off.”

You give Laki a quick comforting touch on the back, which calms her down.

Your eyes dart around the house. It looks modern and parts are very similar and familiar to what you’d expect on the mainland, but there’s also still strong Loanan influences. It’s a strange fusion. The professional and elegant woodwork seems hidden under a large collection of junk that’s spilled out over into the living room from wherever that door leads.

Laki’s mom mentions getting dinner served now that you’re here. You have time for a quick private question from Laki.

“Do they know about the whole relationship? The harem? Hana?”

Laki gives you a private smile. “Of course. Mom’s thrilled. She’s glad I’m finally being ‘tamed.’ Dad didn’t say anything. That’s a good thing though. Well, it’s not a bad thing. He hasn’t made up his mind. Says it depends on you.”

You enter further into the house with her. Around the corner you see a huge shelf of books and...board games?

“Don’t tell me you’re into those silly war games as well.” Laki’s mom comments.

“Oh, um, well I’ve played board games but I can’t say I’ve ever seen a collection this big.”

“War games.” Laki’s dad insists, sitting himself at the head of the table. “And I prefer to think of them as simulations. Tests of strategy, cunning, strength...”

“My patience, the shelf strength...” The mom quips as she lays out a covered dish.

“Herb. Grab a seat. Your pokemon can eat in the living room, or the back yard if you trust them. We have a lot kibble, don’t worry.”

Kibble?

Oh. You see a picture of him next to an Onix on a shelf. You guess they buy bulk food for it.

You wonder if Mace and Gardevoir will be alright, but they both seem pretty interested in food. You guess the day’s events drained them in more ways than one. Your pokemon all take it upon themselves to scatter between the living room and outside, with Mace and Gardevoir being among those staying inside. Sorbet though, doesn’t want to leave your side at all.

“You get into a fight or something before you came here?” The dad asks.

“I uh-”

“Herb? Get in a fight? No way!” Abigail interjects. “Uh! But! He is tough though. He’s fought a Hydreigon with just a frying pan!”

“Really?” Lake sounds impressed. “I’d have loved to watch that with you.”

“Well, I didn’t see it, but Hana did.” Abigail says.

“I didn’t.” Hana confesses. “I just heard about it.”

Laki can’t seem to figure out what to say, so she says nothing.

“So nobody saw it, hmm?” He asks. His eyes assess you again. You wonder if it’s your intuition or your insecurity telling you that he looks skeptical.

There’s an awkward silence.

“Men sit first in our family, dear.” Wahine explains to you. “Pick wherever you’d like.”

Laki slaps her head. Not in an embarrassed way, but in a way where it seems like she’s upset with herself for forgetting to mention that to you.

Hana quickly takes her hand off a chair she was about to pull out and looks apologetic. Nobody seems to mind though.

Oh. OH! You need to choose a spot.

>A seat next to Laki’s dad. More chances to make a good impression

“Oh, thank you.” You say, picking a spot with an empty seat on both sides, looking to Hana and Laki. They both take one next to you. Hana isn’t really sure what to do with her hand closest to you. At first she puts it on your leg, then a little inappropriately high up your inner through, then suddenly moving it away out of reaction and clanking the table a little. She gives up and sips her water instead until everyone stops looking at her.

Laki gives your hand a squeeze and pretty openly kisses you on the cheek. The look in her eyes tells you she isn't going anywhere.

“Herb, you are here of your own free will, aren’t you?” He asks, elbowing you.

“Dad no.” Laki says, putting her hands over her face.

“Don’t listen to him.” Her mom passes a dish to Abigail and Hana, who she insists are both much too skinny. “When Laki was younger, she punched a boy in the arm until he agreed to be her boyfriend.”

Abigail looks like she just found a golden nugget.

Wait. Laki had another boyfriend before you?

Well, of course she did, right? She’s beautiful and funny and smart. But why didn’t she say anything before? Did she just assume you’ve dated too? Who is this guy?

“Mom!” Laki pleads through her hands. “I was eight!”

Oh no! A childhood friend? Is he taller than you?

“And it was adorable.” Her mom says, piling seconds on Hana and Abigail’s plates despite their polite declining of more food. “It was a little more direct than most girls should act, to lock down a man, but adorable.”

“Somebody please talk about literally anything else.” Laki pleads.

“Herb didn’t just face down a Hydreigon.“ Abigail chimes in.

“To be fair, the poor thing was starving and weak so I-”

A foot slams down on yours under the table. That was definitely from Abigail. You don’t need Gardevoir to translate the look her eyes are giving you. She wants you to shut up.

She starts talking about your adventures, really playing up your roles in them and praising you. You don’t want to get a big head, but it feels pretty nice to be showered with all this praise. Especially from someone who’s usually so insulting.

You watch Lake’s reaction. He seems impressed wile he listens, but he ends up coughing and interrupting her. “Sounds like he gets into a lot of trouble.” He dismisses the topic. “Always at the center of some problem or another.”

He gives what looks like a variation of the prayer before eating that Keira does, and everyone digs in.

Hey, this is a new dish. A few small changes here or there and you think you could really make it pop.

“Excellent cooking.” You say to Laki’s mom.

Her and her dad exchange a look. That looked like a good look!

“Oh, you’re so polite! It’s just something I threw together.” She smiles. “Herb. Your pokemon is still here. Does she not like kibble?”

You look down. Sorbet is sitting right under your chair. She rests her head, but keeps an ear up to make sure you won’t walk away without her knowing. You guess she’s still keen on staying close to you ever since you fell into the sea.

“Sounds like a mooch with a discipline problem. You know who’s never had problems with that? Laki. She worked herself to the bone to qualify for the games.”

“Dad...” Laki looks embarrassed again.

“Please don’t put down my pokemon.” You say, making and and somehow maintaining eye contact. “Sorbet likes to stay close. She’s just a little nervous about unfamiliar places. But she’s not a mooch or undisciplined. She’s a talented, hard worker that contributes a lot to the team.”

The silence lasts forever. At least a full agonizing second. Maybe two! It’s unbearable.

You hear a mild thump and see his face flinch. “Oh! Yes! Ahem. I joking around. Please don’t take my agitating behavior as a personal attack. I merely get carried away in attempts at banter.

There was something very rehearsed about the way he said that. Wahine looks satisfied

“Um, no problem.” You didn’t expect that response, but it sure went a lot better than you assumed it would. But even if it didn’t, you’d still consider it worth it for the look Sorbet gives you.

“Trainers and their pokemon.” Abigail laughs, trying to smooth out the lingering awkwardness in the air. She shifts the conversation over to unusual names she’s heard for pokemon, and the conversation just flows from there. You know she hates doing this sort of thing, but she’s amazing at it. She’s like the parent whisperer.

As the night goes on they ask you and Hana, (but mostly you) all sorts of questions. Nothing weird though. It’s all about who your family is, what they do, what your own hobbies and interests are. It feels like her mom is happy with you. In fact, she seems to drop a few hints and implications that you and Laki are further along on the relationship than you are.

But you notice a pattern emerge. Her dad seems genuinely nice and to like you, but he keeps going back to putting you or your accomplishments down and implying Laki could do better. They’re not overt or obvious implications, but they are definitely really happening.

“That’s a lot of shards, Herb.” He says. “Especially at your age. But it sounds like our Laki is close on your tail. If she hadn’t gone to the games I’m sure she’d have even more right now.”

“Dad. It’s not a competition. And I got most of mine by being with Soft Ha- Herb.” She corrects.

“Soft what?” Her dad asks. “How did young Herb here earn that name?”

“Soft Hands.” Laki sighs. “Dad, it’s just an innocent nickname.”

“I hope so.” He mutters, giving you a strange look.

Dinner continues until desert, where two loaves of baco bread are served. You’re relieved to see that the loaf you brought is a big hit. At least, until you realize that her moms is almost entirely untouched.

“Is everyone sure they don’t want more?” She offers some of the one she baked. “Hana? Abigail? You could use the extra meat.”

“I’ll take a slice.” You say. “Just a small one, I’m pretty stuffed.”

She cuts off a slice that you would describe as small. Still, she seems happy you asked.
“M-me too!” Hana says.

She also cuts one for Abigail, despite her not asking at all. Still, she takes it without complaint even if she’s very slow to actually eat it. She must have though, because it vanishes at some point. Hana swallows hers down in as big a mouthful she can handle, which feels oddly familiar to watch.

“This is nice.” You say. It’s not terrible. Not as good as yours but she clearly put a lot of work into it. “You used the slow cook method, didn’t you? That takes a lot of patience, but it really pays off.” You mean every word. If she had cooked it quickly like you, it’d probably have come out terrible. A lower temperature over a longer time with slightly different ratios and ingredient makes for a more complete texture, but it has been something you’ve been sacrificing on and making up for with various tricks so you don’t just bake all day.

“Well. You really do know a lot about baking after all.” She sounds impressed. “Good cooking raises strong children.”

“Mom.” Laki pleads for the millionth time tonight.

“I’m just saying. Your brother isn’t giving us any grandchildren...”

“MOM!” Laki says again. You guess she’s worried about scaring you after the talks you’ve had.

“Um, on that subject, when would I get to meet your brothers?”

“Yeah. I was looking forward to seeing them.” Laki says.

“Oh those two. Well, your older brother only stops by for laundry and food. He made some excuse for missing today.” She says, looking to Laki.

“I’ll talk to him.” Laki replies, sounding very unsurprised.

“And her younger one is having a sleepover tonight.” Her mom says, then pauses to think. “It’s a shame you didn’t get to meet him tonight. You know, now that I think about it, you two seem very similar.”

“We do?”

“Oh yes. I think you’d get along great.”

“What? Mom that’s crazy!” Laki protests. “They look nothing alike.”

“I meant they act the same, but now that you mention it...”
Your eyes fall to a family photograph with a younger Laki and a younger boy that you can only assume is her brother. Huh, you sort of see it. Like a Loanan version of you. Neat.

Abigail’s adult aura vanishes, and she looks like a little kid that found a secret free candy machine. “Oh. My. Arc-”

“OKAY!” Laki says. “Wow! Look at the time!”

“It is getting late. Isn’t it.” Her mom says. “You kids are staying the night, aren’t you? We could have breakfast, maybe see your brothers.”

Come to think of it, this is Laki's first time home since she started her journey. I should have thought of this with Hana and her foster moms, but I'm kind of sad we didn't get to see them show their pokemon to their families, which I'm sure they've probably done by now. Seeing Onix meet Wailord would have been cool. Big buddies! Plus, we haven't really seen too much of Hana's pokemon, have we? There's Togepi's discipline issues, Chinchou wanting Hana to trust it, and the only characterization we've seen of her little fossil is the one time it got spooked by her limb removal in a bin.

“I wouldn’t mind staying and getting to know your family better.” Sorbet cuddles into your leg. You give her a scratch for as long and deep as your hand can handle.

“We haven’t even met the pokemon you’ve caught.” Her dad protests with you.

“Well.” Laki says with a forced smile. “I can’t really argue against that.”

“Great! We’ll set the living room up.”

“Is...something wrong with my room? Laki asks.

Her mom explains how it’s packed with stuff that they’re totally going to used to remodel the inside of the house, after they’re doing replacing the deck and remodeling the bathroom. The house definitely gives off the impression that it has a few projects going all the time.

“Now come along girls. Help me set up.” Her mom says to the girls.

You get up to help as well, but Laki’s dad stops you. “Care to join me on the deck?”
You follow him out onto the deck. The sun has already set earlier today on Mace’s weary head. He looks like he’s at home out here though. He plays with Onix the same way and adult might play with a child or small animal. You guess they must have a bit of an age difference.

“Hatched Onix myself.” He tells you, watching it play in his back yard. It's surprisingly gentle and making an effort not to smash anything or make a lot of noise. “The egg came from a mother that gave birth to some of the strongest construction pokemon the island’s ever seen. It all started with selecting the right family.” He says. “Family is everything.”

“Uhm, yeah.” You nod.

“But it’s not enough to just breed a strong family line.” He says. “What and how they’re taught is important too.

“Right.” You nod again. He’s not saying anything really controversial.

“I can tell your someone who takes pride in their pokemon.” He prepares a small pipe. “You stand up for them. I liked seeing that, Herb. And it’s plain to see you care about them, too.” He watches Dice chase after Mace along with Onix, falling for the same tricks of misdirection. Dice is very agile about flipping right around though. ”Never seen any of that before.” He says, realizing he’s watching a very agile Croconaw and a flying Roggenrola. “Did you do that?”

Hey, this is sounding like praise. “Mace always had that potential.” You tell him. “I just helped him a little with figuring it out. And he really did all the hard work during training. He did it, not me.”

“Moderate humility is seen as a virtue here, but modesty isn’t.” He tells you. You’re not sure what the exact difference is, but the fact that it sounded like advice and not criticism feels like a good sign.

“Thanks. I’ll try to remember that.” You make a mental note.

“I’m close to approving of you, Herb, if I’m being honest. I know my Laki can be a little combative. Sometimes even slightly unfeminine. Her mother blames that on me of course, some nonsense about me raising her like a son. Anyway, I know my girl. She’s more sensitive than people realize. She’s the kind of girl that falls hard and would be very hurt by someone who was just leading her around.” He takes a puff of his pipe. “She’s someone that might need your full attention.”

“What are you saying?” You ask.

“If you had to, would you dump Hana to keep Laki?”

“No.” You state firmly. “Hana and I would do whatever it takes to make her happy and help with whatever was going on. When Laki and I had difficulties, Hana helped bring us together. The same goes the other way around too. It’s not me and Laki or me and Hana. It’s all of us together in a balanced harmony.” The words are giving you as much new information as they are him. You’ve never really thought of it like this before. It makes sense, though.

He absorbs what you’ve said along with whatever he’s smoking in his pipe. “The Twelve Paths. Wish I was as much of a reader at your age.”

“Sorry?”

“The Twelve Paths.” He says again. “Isn’t that where you got the quote about balanced harmony?”

You shake your head. “I was just talking without thinking. Is that a book? I don’t think I’ve read it. Wait! Did you mean the Twelve Paths of Perfect Grilling?”

He gives you a funny look. “No, Herb.”

“Oh. Umm, do you still approve?”

“Still? I never said I approved. I said I was close to approving.” He reminds you.

“Are you...closer?” Stop! Stop asking questions! Stop talking!

Bella comes running up and pulls on your leg. She proudly hands you a tiny chocolate and is ecstatic to see you take it. She’s a little more shy about handing one to Lake, but Bella’s not very shy to begin with so you’re probably the only one who noticed the difference. She looks back into the house through the glass where Laki is to report her mission is complete. You give Bella a quick hug and pat on the head, telling her to deliver that back to Laki.

He watches the whole thing unfold. You thought he had just ignored the question, but he does eventually answer. “I’m closer.”

You both head inside, where he bids good night to everyone and heads away early.

“Are you sure it’s okay if we all sleep here?” Hana asks Wahine about the living room.

“Of course dear. You’ve been traveling on your journey with a priestess and now this fine young girl as a chaperone, and it’s not like there are walls in the woods you kids camp in.”

“I am fine, aren’t I?” Abigail jokes.

Nobody seems to here her, because answers. Abigail grumbles and checks her figure in a mirror in a disgruntled manner.

“I can’t believe you guys filled my room with junk.” Laki says. “What if my journey ended and I wanted to go back?”

“Herb.” Wahine calls out, ignoring Laki’s question. “Care to join me for a quick talk?

Gobble (Munchlax)
Mace (Roggenrola)
Belladonna (Roserade)
Dice (Croconaw)
Sorbet (Vulpix)

“Sure.” You say, following Laki’s tall, thin, mother. She could pass for a retired model if she wasn’t so well endowed. Sorbet follows, but this time she feels safe enough to run out and explore the backyard.

“I hope my husband wasn't too hard on you.” She says.

“Oh no, not at all.”

“That’s good.” She sips her large glass of wine.

“So you and Laki met right at the start of your journey, is that right?”

“Well, yeah. We’ve were traveling together and, well, I guess love just sort of struck.” Oh that last word just sort of fell out. It’s something you did openly say to Laki, and she seems a lot more understanding about exactly what that means to you, but you still don’t know if it’s a good idea to say to her family.

She raises an eyebrow. “It sounds like you’re pretty serious. You know, when I first heard about the arrangement you had I immediately thought the worst, especially given our family’s history.

“History?”

“Oh, Laki never told you? We, -her father and I-, used to have what you had, with a second woman. It was quite the scandal, the divorce. It’s rarer here. It was hard on the family. But, it needed to be done. She was a horror.”

“I had no idea.” Did Laki keep that a secret, or was that just something she never got around to mentioning?

She looks a little surprised “So you can imagine my shock when she confides in me that she not only found a man she was willing to give herself to for the first time, but with a Sal-mate?” She laughs. “My Laki? But I see you and the other girl and I can see it. I just still have trouble believing it.”

"Wait wait wait. Did Laki tell her mom about her first time? You’ve seen Laki playing around with her Pokedex a little, but never long and rarely calling anyone. At least, that you saw.

“Well, it’s real.” You nervously laugh, not sure where she’s going with this.

“When we’re young, and admittedly sometimes still when we’re older, don’t always see the flaws in our partners. Tell me, what first drew you to my daughter?”

“Well, there was a lot of things. But I guess what really stood out at me was her war, motherly concern.”

She looks completely and genuinely confused at that statement. “My Laki?”

“Well, yeah. You should see her. She mostly shows it with Belladonna but I see it even in other things.” You think of the one or two moments where it sort of felt that way towards you.

“I WAS getting through to her.” She blurts out, with a small whiff of the wine on her breath hitting you. “My little Laki does want to follow in my footsteps after all. Oh I am going to be a grandma!” She says. “What else? Tell me more.”

“Well, I like her assertive attitude.”

“Music to my ears I thought she’d drive the men away.” She laughs to herself. “But I guess she just needed the right man to help unlock what’s inside.”

You’re not sure if that’s the best moral, but you’re glad she’s happy. You just sort of continue praising Laki. “She really helped me find what’s inside more. She’s always been helping to build me up. And it’s because she’s so assertive and honest that I felt safe enough to let it happen. Laki, well, she’s made me a better guy.”

“Well, Herb.” She says, downing her glass and putting a hand on her shoulder to help stabilize herself. “I have to so you have just been a cherub of good tidings. You have no idea how good it is to see her not letting our past stop her from living her life and finding her way to motherhood one day.” She turns you around to look at Laki. “And like you said, she’s very motherly. So why don’t you kids enjoy the night in the living room like a little sleepover. The only rules are that our bedroom door remains closed and undisturbed no matter what, no pokemon in the kitchen, and that you keep giving me more good news.” She laughs, patting you on the rear to push you forward toward the door and Laki.

Once you open the patio door and walk into the kitchen, she opens another bottle of wine and fills her glass. “Can I offer you a glass? You look like you’ve had a rough day.” She gestures all over you in one sloppy motion. You guess with your clothes the way they are you should expect a lot of comments like that.

Well, you have had a glass at special family events. And this definitely does not give the impression of being some sort of test of character or anything.

>Sure, what’s one little glass?

“Well, yeah. Okay. Just a small glass couldn’t hurt. Thank you.”

She begins to pour you a big, big glass.

“Thank you.” You repeat, trying to clue her in that that’s enough. “Thank you. Thanks.”

“I heard you the first time dear.” She finishes emptying the bottle into it. “You can relax. We can see you're *hic* very polite. And handsome.”

Uh. “Uh.” Your body and mind express their independent responses in a rare display of unity.

“Which means good looking, strong grandchildren.” She pokes your chest. “And height comes from the mother’s side anyway so I’m sure we’ll be fine there.”

Okay, ouch. “Mrs.-”

“No. No Mrs. nonsense. Call me Wahine.” She says, putting an arm over your shoulder. “And drink. Come. Glass up.”

She begins to tip your glass upward, forcing you to gulp or choke. You drink as much as you can to avoid spilling, until she finally relents. “That’s...woo.”

“Strong stuff.” She says. “Well, they like everything stronger on this island. Except the women. That’s what I told my Laki, too. “No man wants a girlfriend stronger than him.””

“Heh. And look at me, with two.” The room moves a little, requiring you to adjust your footing.

“No!” She hits you in the chest much weaker than you’re used to. “Don’t make fun of Hana!”

“What? No. I meant it. She’s really strong.” You say. “In every way.”

“Hmmm.” She sips her glass.

You decide to help yourself to some of the light snacks they have set out in the kitchen. You just need something for the taste in your mouth.

“Good good. Eat. Drink. You’re a growing young man.” She says. When you turn back around you swear your glass looks more full. “And tell me more about Hana. The big X-factor here. She doesn’t say much, does she?”

“Well, she’s a little shy.” You tell her.

“Well, ish the quiet ones you need to watch out for.” She responds. She accidentally stumble directly into you. She quickly brushes your chest and laughs, apologizing. “Woops.”

“Heh. Accidents happen.”

“Yes. They do.” She keeps her eyes on Hana in the other room. “So, back to the topic at hand. You.” She pokes you again and holds back a burp. “You’re good news. Herb. I want this to produce chil....results. But I don’t know much about that girl.”

“You could ask her.” You respond, not trying to sound critical. Your head is getting pretty fuzzy and your voice seems like it needs more work to be loud enough to be heard.

“I’ve tried. She’s so shy. Like you said. But you and I are friends, right?” She again leans heavily on you. Her smell and body have a similarity to Laki that feels familiar but strange. “Be honest. We're just conditioned by gobble for horrible maiming and psychological trauma.

I mean Kat almost committed suicide in the last one.

This time around it seems like Herb is so well adjusted he's going to help everybody out. Hana's mostly over her trauma and the person with a real big problem is a pokemon.

(Jane's coming around already, she was the biggest problem child as it were and she wasn't waifu'd.)

Still hoping ever so greatly that there's a chance for Valerie or Kiera to join. Jane was an asshole, I don't know what people were seeing, she pushed Herb into his own puke. She's better now but I don't really include her in any future cuddle piles.
>>
>>2401314
I'm still wishing Kiera, but we can't all be winners. Though to be fair, I sailed a lot of ships. I'm not sure if I wrote anything in support of Jane, but I think I did for just about every other option.

At least Hana got in. She was #2.

I hope he's okay, it'd be a shame to see him later only for him to suddenly have turned down the path of the Dark Side.

>>2401331
I thought Hana filled the role of "2 or 3 on every list". Val and Keira kinda died off if I remember right.

...Y'know, I didn't think about Polu turning to negafug. I'm not sure if that's much of a possibility, but you have me worried now.
>>
>>2401324
I still don't really like Hana. She's a nice girl but eh. Kiera/Jane/Laki are the waifus.

Valerie wasn't even on the radar.
>>
I liked that bit of Herb soul diving from a few threads ago, it showed that he very clearly has an attraction to the other ladies but is absolutely terrified of disappointing people. Herb is like the only person in a quest I've read that seems like he could genuinely pull off the harem/poly life for the happiness of everyone else in the group.
>>
>>2401339
and I still don't like Laki but I'm not about to ruin it for the ones who like her.

“She could dress better, I suppose.” You say, starting to enjoy this wine a little.

“Oh? I was thinking more of a personality trait that-”

That's it! Of course! “I think it comes from her lack of confidence. That she doesn’t see that she’s worth the effort. I wish I could help her see how amazing she is.”

“Alright.” She seems a lot more in control of herself now. She tops up your glass without you asking or really noticing that much. You’re too lost in thought. “Tell me more.”

“Well, I think she’s working on it already, so maybe I should just take a step back and let her work at her own pace. Is that just an excuse to be neglectful though? Then again, I just said Laki’s assertiveness helped me out, so maybe I should try to push Hana more.”

“Herb.” She tries to interrupt, mirroring how you were with the wine glass. She asked for a little and you’re just pouring it all out.

“Should I even worry? I mean, you should always worry a little about loved ones, right? But I mean, Hana’s been so strong and so observant and really just plain right about everything she’s said to me and Laki.”

“Herb.”

“But people do have trouble seeing their own problems.” You say, letting your thoughts out as quickly as they come. “Hana might need me to be-”

“HERB.” She grabs your face. “Has Hana tried to get between you and Laki?”

“Huh? What, no. Never. She’s helped us get closer, if anything.” You say, sipping more wine and trying to get your brain back on track about how to be a better boyfriend to her. “Hana’s always putting everyone else first.”

She lets herself sink onto the tall chair by the kitchen island. Part of her body settles onto the island itself as she rests her face on her hand. She looks satisfied. “She sounds like a good girl.”

“She is. Well, they both are.” You say, downing your wine glass. “I guess that’s why it works.”

She smiles, just sitting there listening to you go on about how wonderful the two girls are. She isn’t nearly as talkative now, but the warm atmosphere, smile, and way she treats you now really helps you feel nice. Well, that, and maybe a little bit the wine. It’s not her warm attitude that’s making your teeth numb.

You talk at the nice woman for a good long time. You pass your wine glass down to Sorbet and she rechills it, so you can drink the last little bit and finally be done with the drink. It’s weird though, because it really feels like you’ve finished it already.

Eventually Abigail comes into the kitchen to check. “You guys still alive in here?”

“Abby!” Her mom says, in the exact same way Laki does when she’s had a few. “Join us.”

“I better get back there. I’m just stealing this guy away and we’ll go on to sleep.”

“Sleep? You’re young!”

“Young people still need to sleep Mrs.-”

“Ah ah. Wahine.” She corrects. “But you’re right. You’re a good chaperone. My little Laki got over her issues and has a responsible, cool, urban friend from the ghettos of Tabo. Let’s see the neighbors faces when they hear about this!” She throws up her glass, which Abigail quickly disarms her of.

“I gotcha.” Abigail says, taking Wahine away to her room. “Go to your girlfriends, Goldentop.”

“Without their chaperone?” Her mom says in a mockingly shocked voice. “Why, anything could happen!”

That’s the last you see or hear of her as Abigail helps walk the much larger woman away.

You stumble into the living room where Laki and Hana are hanging by the couch. Half the cushions are forming a small fort, along with a completely zonked out Gobble acting as a load-bearing pillow.

“There he is!” Laki says, grabbing you and pulling you into the couch. “Sorry about all this. Heh. So this is my family. Not too scary, right? I- did she get you drunk?”

“I just-” You hiccup. Huh. You don’t usually hiccup. “Had one glass.”

“Typical mom.” Laki says, gently laying your head down onto her bosom. “Thanks for being understanding, you two.” She shifts her weight and twists her neck to look around. “How about a little reward? Both of you.”

Hana’s ears are real, right? You swear they just twitched.

“Umm, reward?”

“YES.” Hana almost shouts. She covers her mouth. “Sorry. Yes please.”

Laki rolls her eyes. She looks back at you. “So remember how Soft Hands said we can take things at our own pace?” She scooches closer to Hana. “Well, look. I know I've been stand off with you, and if this is something you really want more of, and not just as a thing we do to rev him up, I guess we can, occasionally, get a little closer.”

Hana likes the sound of that, but also seems a little confused. It makes you feel better not to be the only one. “What do you mean?”

Laki, with the slightest self-conscious hesitation at first, grabs Hana’s shirt and yanks her in for a kiss. You end up sandwiched between the two girls, feeling their bodies and hearing their mouths play with each other and smelling them. Oh jeez oh wow. Hana is really getting into it. Her sheer enthusiasm seems to affect Laki a little too.

“What about Herb?” Hana finally breaks it.

“I’ll, uh, take a reward too.” You say, feeling the normal coolness of the air on your face replace the heat of being mushed between two healthy young women.

Laki glances over her shoulder again, then gives you and Hana a big, mischievous smile. “Well, I wanted to give you both stuff you weren’t getting enough of from me before.” She undoes your belt. Her head lowers down, making her invisible from anyone looking at the back of the couch.

“Oh no!” Hana says in a quiet, faux-panic. “Now how are we supposed to make out? Guess we’ll just have to do both. Yup.” The unsure, awkward smile and slightly worried but still excited tilt of her eyebrows always does something to you. Hana also lowers down.

Oh jeez. Where’s everyone else? Is this okay? Will someone come by? You’re not exactly able to really concentrate easily. You have no idea where Gardevoir, Abigail, Laki’s parents, and some of the pokemon are. You trust that the girls are keeping track of these things.

Yes I did mean Laki’s but give me a break! It was 2:00 AM and I was working on finishing my Microbio take-home final!

Although if there were kids at the orphanage she’s close with I’d be more than happy to hear about them.

Also, I don’t have any butts or fronts but I do have OC bug!

You watch in complete dazed amazement as the two girls tongue-box around a rolling pin, making you feel just a little cocky and playful. You decide that you might as well escalate things. You place one hand on Laki’s back, and one on Hana’s, and let yourself fall back into your aura training.

And it goes surprisingly well. You’re not sure if it’s just how loose you feel, the excitement of the situation making their aura’s that more more readable, or something else. But you’re just in the zone.

The rest of the night becomes a bit of a blur. But a scene forms as time skips.

You see Laki’s aura rocking back and forth on top of you like a wave. Later, you see yourself and her entangled on the floor, aura’s wrapped around each other, with Hana’s aura interacting somehow up ahead, looking bright but also secretive.

There’s a feel good time. Compliments are exchanged. Water is drank. You don’t remember most of the words but you feel pretty redeemed from the other night.

There’s another timeskip.

“Well, make sure she doesn’t suffocate and die.” Laki urges Abigail.

Wait, Abigail?

“I’ll make sure she won’t suffocate, but I think she might die anyway. Her eyes are rolling in the back of her head.” The picture forms a bit clearer now. Abigail is here, but only to help hold a pillow

“Just keep her quiet, then!” Laki whispers loudly and worryingly.

You just keep happily doing your thing, admiring the arch of Hana’s back. You don’t know all the details, but you know you feel even more redeemed when you’re done.

You wake up the next morning with a headache, a thirst, sore hips that feel like they’ve been crushed in a vice, or maybe multiple vices, a sensation of being very drained, and just the jolliest kick in your step before you even get your body up from the floor.

Huh. Look like you slept in the corner. Or were placed there.

Laki and Abigail are there, nursing coffee and looking exhausted. Laki’s pleasant hum is contrasted by Abigail’s look of being very fed up.

“Look who woke up.” Abigail says. Her comment makes a few pokemon rush over to you. Gobble was already a pillow but ends up waking up anyway.

“Hey, Soft Hands” Laki’s tone alone has such a womanly, satisfied, and interested feel to it that you can’t help but feel good even under Abigail’s scowl.

“They took Hana out for a walk.” Laki says. “Said they wanted to get to know her better. My brothers will be by later.”

You greedily down the nearby glass of water. You have no idea where it came from but your gut assures you that it’s yours. It helps a lot.

“So it’s just us in the house?” You ask.

“For the next hour or so.” She waddles over, looking as equally sore as you.

There are a lot of things you want to ask about and clarify, like the twelve paths thing, but you feel like your brain will need extra care and attention to absorb complicated information right now. It might take longer than usual. You’ll get the quick notes no matter what, but taking the time to really get in depth info might be a good idea too.

I dunno what to do for our other options. I'm more interested in the quick notes versions of the 12 Paths and her brothers, so might as well clean things up to be nice?

I dunno. I'm heading to bed anyway. Good night, Gobble, and thanks for the run!

Do you you guys think hana was whammied so hard by that aura massage because she's missing limbs so her aura's more concentrated? or localized or something? Or did we aura massage her phantom limbs? Is that a fucked up thought?
>>
>>2401756
Nah, the question's a decent one. But I doubt amputation affects things like libido. Rather, I think Hana's just got a really strong and deep pool of lewd emotions for us to flip on. Imagine suddenly having 100 fetishes all satisfied at once.
>>
A few memories begin to flood back in, but they hardly form a perfect picture. “I have some questions.” you say as you make your way to the kitchen. The girls follow, but Laki keeps the pokemon from entering the kitchen. Sorbet objects, since she was in there last night, but she has to settle with sitting right outside of it and watching you keenly in case you slip away.

You get a general idea explained to you by the girls. Once things got started last night, you, Laki, and Hana got a bit out of control. Enough to make Laki as sore as she is today, and then after, apparently you and Hana got completely careless about noise and were too drunk on lust or other things to easily managed or reasoned with.

Abigail saved the day by claiming responsibility for breaking something by accident, handling things you guys neglected, and going so far as to physically stuff a pillow in Hana’s mouth.

“I had to see everything!’ Abigail complains. “You disgusting, savage barbarian!”

Despite the comfortable and satisfied mindspace you’re in, that does manage to embarass you.

“I thought that would bug me, but I’m okay with it because one; it embarrasses Soft Hands and he looks cute when that happens.” Laki winks. She seems a lot more sweet and open the morning after. It’s a pattern now, and not just a coincidence. “And two; because I liked seeing the fear in your eyes, Rust-head.”

“Yeah well maybe you guys should have been the scared ones instead.” Abigail turns it around. “I was the one who kept Gardevoir from giving you guys away. I was the one that gave Hana something to make noise into because she wouldn’t shut up and Laki couldn’t handle it! I was the one chatting with Wahine for an hour in the hallway listening to her drunkenly talk on and on about Laki because she wouldn’t go to bed but I couldn’t let her walk back to the living room! Because, as we saw, you guys decided it was the perfect time for sweaty gross smelly degeneracy! Animals!”

“Mom was talking about me?” Laki says.

“Yeah!” Abigail’s frustrated tone makes it sound like Laki’s asking a dumb question. “She’s super psyched you got such a ‘gentleman’ here and such an ‘agreeable’ sal-mate like Hana. The only thing she got right is that I am a patient!” She shouts. “Wonderful! Responsible! Chaperone!”

You do feel bad, but the volume she’s shouting at now makes it hard to think. “How do you like your pancakes?”

“Thin and flat with strawberries on top.” She says, interrupting her speech. “Not a freaking word.”

“I didn’t say anything.” Laki zips her mouth. Her tone indicates that it was fair to pre-empt her from talking, though.

“Good. Because everything I just talked about was after I came here early, won them over and did nothing but talk about how good Herb was for you. So would it kill any of you to show just the slightest bit of appreciation? Just the tiniest freaking gesture as thanks for the things I do?”

You hand her the plate of pancakes, set just the way she described. “Thank you.” You tell her.

“You’re right.” Laki says. “You probably made the rest of my life a lot easier. You really pulled through. I can't deny it, I owe you big time.”

“And you’re a good friend.” You add on.

Abigail takes your words in for a moment, staring at her plate. You hope she appreciates the little Abigail-styled smiley face you put on it.

“Well, you don’t need to get all sappy about it. But it’s a start.” Abigail harumphs before digging in. You always like cooking for her. She eats everything on her plate.

Your given a brief overview of things. The Twelve Paths is a guide on different approaches to life. The premise of the book is that there are twelve different paths a life can take, and you need to understand which one you’re on to better find your place in the world and know both what to expect and the best ways to avoid problems. It’s an influential book that formed the basis for a lot of modern Loanan culture but it’s rarely quoted in everyday conversation and a lot of people forget it’s existence or at least it’s importance. It’s the system that justified reducing the temple count to twelve, with each one having been reborn representing and exploring their particular path, but the philosophies of each temple’s types and the ways in which words can shift and bureaucracies and debates can change things has rendered the temple’s connections to the twelve paths as either completely forgotten and disconnected by today, or requiring years of study to even begin to understand how they’re actually totally connected as long as you follow very particular philosophical arguments. What the paths are, what temple is assigned what path, and other details are left for another time.

On the subject of Laki ‘s brothers, you learn a few important facts. Her older brother is actually a half brother from her father’s side. His mother was the woman Mahine mentioned was divorced. Laki sees him as a bit of a screw up who got a job working under her dad but couldn’t even hold that down. He likes to flake out on responsibilities and his word doesn’t mean much. Still, he sounds like a pleasant enough person to be around. She just warns you about depending on him. They don’t sound particularly close, but it doesn’t like like there’s any animosity either.

(continued)
>>
>>2401787
Her younger brother, from her description, reminds you of course of the one obvious person he would. Your own little brother! Why else would she describe him as a little helpless and naive, but forthright and always trying his best? Laki feels like she hasn’t really been giving him enough attention since her journey began.

The doorbell rings, and with Abigail enjoying second and Laki in the bathroom, you figure it’s up to you to answer it.

He looks just a pinch younger, shorter, and smaller than you. Without a doubt, this is her younger brother.

“Who are you?” He looks confused and a little worried. That does break a little when he sees your pokemon gathering around you though. They seem pretty friendly towards him.

You’re so used to being the younger, more lost person in a situation. With this though, you have that rare feeling of being in charge. Your older, know more about the situation at hand, and you suppose have a responsibility to set the tone here.

“Oh. Um. Hello.” You say, offering a hand. You retract your hand as you think you’re better off bowing instead though, but that just comes off as rude because he extended his to shake yours. “I’m Herb Johnson. Laki’s boyfriend. Nice to meet you.”

“Oh!” He says, relieved. “I’m Kai.” He returns the bow.

You both stand there for a moment.

“Would you like to come in?” You invite the kid into his own home like a weirdo.

“Yes.” He responds, making it even weirder with his one-word answer. It didn’t sound like he was being curt. It just felt like he didn’t know what else to say.

“So...”

“You um, have a lot of pokemon.”

“Do you?” Ah! What are you saying? “I mean, do you have any of your own?” You just meant to start a conversation, not sound confrontational!

He shakes his head. “N-no. I’ll get a starter after my birthday though. Then I’ll begin my own adventure.”

You guess you shouldn’t act too much older than him. That's place him at less than a year younger than you. It's probably only a few months difference. “Well, this is Gobble, and Mace, and...” You introduce them all. It gets cut short when Laki finally arrives.

“KIA!” She shouts, lifting him into the air. She stumbles and almost drops him. “Woah. Sorry. My legs aren’t working so great this morning.”

“LAKI!” He responds with as much enthusiasm. “You took so long to come back!”

She rubs the back of her head. “Well yeah. I did say I’d be back right away, huh? Guess I got a little distracted. I met someone.” She, to your surprise, gently kisses you on the cheek. “But it sounds like you’ve already met.”

He just sort of looks at you, taking you in. Is there something on your shirt? In your teeth? It could just be your imagination, but it feels like something about you is bothering him.

Laki takes the smaller boy to the backyard, where she shows off the pokemon she’s caught in her journey and tells him some excited, and what sounds like slightly altered, stories.

You watch Wailord and Onix try to figure each other out and by some miracle, not just spill out over the fence. It’s right, but they make it work. Before long they seem to get along like old friends. Or maybe more like young kids.

Kia gets confused a few times, seemingly under the impression that Belladonna is Lakis. You guess you can understand the mistake. Sorbet doesn’t seem as threatened by him as she is with other people. Gobble acts almost like him, in some strange ways. Gobble is curious but also polite and reserved, not wanting to bother him too much. Dice barely notices or cares, prefering to instead chase around poor Glaceon of all pokemon. You guess Hana left it here. You haven’t had a chance to really get to know her pokemon too well. Glaceon gives Dice an annoyed hiss and he eventually takes the hint, going to chomp on Sorbet’s unexpecting tail instead and causing a small scene in the yard. Mace is so still that if you didn’t know him so well, you’d assume he was just a rock. He does come over to bow and greet him, though. And Bella, well, she looks suspicious. She apparently does seem to trust him. Still, she keeps herself polite and holds back without being told to. That feels like you’ve made real progress in parenting-

Training-

...Raising her.

You stretch. Well, whatever today brings, you feel like you’re getting your strength back in a big way, and your confidence is coming back too. Maybe you’ll be alright after all.

A master list of what’s coming would be nice.

Also, I’d like to be a fly on the wall for Hana’s walk with her future... in-law-in-laws? I hope it goes well, especially since they’re so concerned about Hana doing whatever Laki’s... step-mother(?) did. And Hana seemed to be really feeling the pressure, so hopefully we’ve gotten her to relax.

And Herb’s kids are gonna get two grandpas and five grandmas! How lucky!

I’m also really looking forwards to more Kai. There’s something about him I like. (But Herb can’t quite place. Abi’s picked up on it but I have to wonder who all else has.)
>>
We should get Abigail a nice gift. She's come through in spades lately. We should ask what we could do to make it up to her.
>>
Let’s just ignore the fact that the two of them took advantage of Herb while he was in no condition to be doing those things.
>>
>>2402038
To be fair, aura manipulation like we did is a little higher on the "taking advantage" scale than anything most people could do even with a ready supply of drugs, and we didn't ask either time we've done it (if you discount the Robin episode due to ignorance and only look at Laki on Wailord and now).

As long as they don't take advantage of other drunk guys and we don't use this on other people, we can set aside the various ethical issues presented here as irrelevant due to a stable, loving, and equal relationship between all parties involved.

>>2402004
She may even be a better friend than Val. I'm not sure how I feel about that since I love Val as a friend, but I can't discount the possibility.

We can always play to our strength and assemble a few outfits of her request. An everyday/rugged one, a classy one, one for the bedroom etc. Might even be fun to rope in Val next time we meet and try to make at least one outfit for everyone.

I like longer posts as an option. Gives you time to set up scenes and reactions so they have more depth to them, and you do a good job with that. Feel free to mix it up depending on what style you're feeling at the time, of course.

I guess a better question is whether you mind us getting sidetracked or talking random shit in-between posts. We can always entertain ourselves if you want to take your time on each section.

I wonder if having a Pokémon that evolves from happiness stay unevolved for a long time makes people speculate as to whether you’re treating it right. They might just prefer their current form though.
>>
>>2402069
Looking back, it seems like Hana didn’t get aura-whammied until a couple time-skips in, so there’s plenty of time in which Herb would have asked permission to do so, or at least given fair warning.

Given how Gardevoir hyped this up, and the pattern with Laki, i’d Expect Herb to.

As for Herb being taken advantage of... it’s not really apparent that Herb was too drunk to decide. Certainly, WE were given the ability to choose and I think that means Herb was in control of himself pretty decisively.

>>2403507

>>2403541
[Very tough call. I'd love to see anything, really. I know that's a total non-answer, but I'd be happy even if it was a retelling of something already done or

A lot of people worry about 'territory' in QMing and writing and other stuff, but I really don't have any issues there. Like if I were making a small indie game, I wouldn't be discouraged if I saw someone else release what I was planning to, but better. I think it's a good thing. It broadens and hypes that sort of thing up more. So there's no real wrong answer. To be honest a lot of what I do is just because I think of one small line/scenario and think that sounds fun so I write a situation around it and the situation sort of changes and evolves and the original line/scenario usually looks unrecognizable at the end. I think GRRM said he had a similar thing with GoT where he thought up the scene of the Starks finding the wolf pups in the woods and he just kept asking himself "okay, but why did this happen?"

Again, I know I'm not helping with ideas, but I'm just way more interested in seeing what other people would write for a character's perspective/actions than anything.]

I'm the exact opposite, I will do shit like openly talk about plans and backstories with my players out of character, but only when those plans are no longer relevant, or when the backstory is information similar to what could be found in a codex in an RPG.

>"Oh yeah, my plan for that guy was that he'd be an assassin, but honestly I just ended up liking him too much to have you guys kill him."
>"You guys don't know this, but this beggar used to be a top shipping magnate until the gang you're after sabotaged his business."

>I just ended up liking him too much to have you guys kill him."
you are the worst kind of QM in my opinion, can't stand it when they assert their will over the player base without a damn good reason. But I guess some people don't mind that, I would not read your quest if you did that shit though.

I think he meant it like:
I introduced Alphonso de la Corcuna as an assassin but you guys interacted with him in such a fun way I decided to just run with what was originally just a cover identity being his actual identity.

QMs can fuck with the unrevealed deep lore of their setting all they want since its not official until the players find out.

This is clearly what I meant.

All I'm saying is that if my unrevealed deep lore has changed, or it looks apparent that it will never be relevant, I'm totally okay just straight up talking about it.

First, these are IRL games. Second, I don't assert my will over players; not giving someone a reason to kill a character is different than not letting them kill a character.

Read slower.
>>
point taken for the reading slower part, probably should have paid closer attention.

In order to placate my need for another hit of Herb and friends I ended up rereading the whole quest until now. I've got a few things that might have fallen by the wayside for a bit.

There's at least 4 wild Pokemon that we saw that we got the feeling we would see again (and only one we have).

Worry seed coffee and making it work.

Working out (maybe get Laki to get us on a good schedule in the mornings.)

MOAR DATES AND PRINCESS CARRIES.

And last but not least Gobble and evolving. (After seeing earlier posts again would be hype for musclelax.)

Oh yea and setting some time aside to thank Abigail properly for all the help and maybe actually try to get to know her better.
>>
>>2411754
We could buy her some new clothes & offer a massage?
Maybe she could help us with our linguistic skills so we don't ruin our sharp aesthetic with bumbling speech
>>
>>2411851
Could unlock conquerors potential. I miss the little POVs we'd get sometimes.

Wonder how herbs dad is doing with visiting heracross' grave.

Since our powers work better (and by extension safer) the closer we are with the target, let’s not try grafting a bit of our soul onto Conqueror quite yet. We’d be better to start with Wailord/Gardevoir/Hana/Laki.
>>
>>2412037
Fair enough. She's just been on point lately and that's a uniquely Herb thing we could do for her.

Worry seed coffee + poke-ranch/Safari Zone of all the abandoned pokemon from the mainland that no one from Loanah wants to deal with + built-in restaurant next to the check-in + possible Contest area for working our/Val's fashion skills on a small-scale level.

It was a pretty nifty dream, all things considered. I kinda want it more than being the Loanah messiah, honestly, since it'd be a lot chiller.

Could still do that. I could see Herb having a daycare on that island and dish out wisdom and food to whoever stops by.

Unrelated but does anyone remember that our older sister got a bf? And does anyone else have the sinking feeling that it's Max?
>>
Enemy team grunt falling in love with and stealing Herb away chapter when?
>>
>>2412353
I really see Herb as the retired adventurer that starts his own cafe/restaurant because he really enjoys taking care of people and Pokemon. I just love the idea of him brewing up a sick cup of joe or baking a pastry and laying down some mind-blowing wisdom on some kids that really make them think, "Who is this guy and what kind of crazy life has he lived?" like all my favorite Tavern Owner type characters in Fantasy stories. That's why I think the Safari zone with Cafe/Restaurant and Day Care is such a cool idea.
>>
>>2412353
Also if her new boyfriend is Max I hope he is at least treating her right, so even if we don't like him at least we know she'll be happy and there is a real love there. Cause I'm not super down with watching him break our sister's heart. But what can you do? We'll be able to give our honest opinion to our sister, but nothing you can say to make someone break up with someone they want to be with and sometimes you just got to watch your family members make their own mistakes even if you can see it a mile away.
>>
>>2413014
Well I mean, telling her he felt us up might be a relationship killer.
>>
>>2413432
To be fair, the place was being pumped full of aerosolized aphrodisiac and nobody was quite acting themselves.

It was his brute-force “solution” to the kecleon problem and rude ‘tude that makes him less than appealing.
>>
>>2413565
Ah that's true. I thought that happened before it really got out but we were immune to that batch so there's no way to tell.

God there's so many little things I want to try and keep track of that I'm just remembering. There's such a disconnect between post time and in game time.
>>
>>2413586
I find rereading threads is the best way to keep track, also don't be afraid to take notes, my Anon. I find a good set of notes is immensly useful for any role-play or rpg in general.
>>
>>2413641
What I mean is that it feels like it's been awhile since we had a gym battle because that was a few threads back but in game time is been like what 3 days?
