In a time of global conflict, the elite international task force Overwatch was formed. Soldiers, scientists, adventurers, and oddities: together, they ended the Omnic Crisis and restored peace to a war-torn world. For a generation, the heroes of Overwatch protected the world, inspiring an era of exploration, innovation, and discovery.

After many years, Overwatch became troubled, and was finally disbanded by official U.N. order. Soon world conflict and terror rose again. Governments weakened by strife ceded power to mega-corporations. Militaries were replaced by private security forces. Some omnics returned to war with humanity; others remained peaceful, but faced fear and violence from humans affected by the war. The global crime syndicate Talon, in the absence of their perpetual rivals, rose to vast wealth and power, pushing entire nations into chaos.

You are a young man who's been many things: adventurer, treasure hunter, freedom fighter, and international criminal. But before all that, you dreamed of helping defend the world with Overwatch. When you encountered Tracer on that fateful night and agreed to help her rebuild, you didn't quite realize what you were getting yourself into. Joining as the first new recruit of the reborn team, you soon found yourself as unofficial leader in coalition with Athena, apparently the world's only benevolent Mind.

In the weeks since then, you, Tracer, and your new friends have travelled the globe, recruiting former agents and newcomers to the cause, and doing what you can to protect the citizens of Earth from the forces of chaos, oppression, and war. Although most people don't realize it yet, Overwatch has returned. But against Talon, Anubis, and the allied megacorps, is one small team of vigilantes really enough?

The world needs heroes, and you're trying to be one of them.

Previously on Overwatch Quest,

Junkrat's scheme to take down Junkertown, fortress of the wasteland raiders, was set into motion. Tracer accompanied the explosive-minded maniac and his bodyguard Roadhog as they infiltrated the town in disguise, while you and the cybernetic ninja Genji descended into the facility's under-levels. Leaving Genji behind to safeguard your advance, you discovered a refurbished fusion core, an advanced power source formerly used by an Omnic war factory, now online and under the control of the infamous hacker and Talon agent Sombra. Also there was the ghost-like specter known as Reaper, somehow resurrected after your battle at Gibraltar. He has ordered Sombra to blow the fusion core, causing a radioactive catastrophe that would kill millions. Sensing her hesitation, you attempt to persuade her otherwise.

You say to Sombra, "I know we don't see eye-to-eye on everything. But this is too far. Information, money, weapons, that's one thing. I get that. Half a continent? That's something else. Think about all those people. Having all that on your hands. You're not like that. I know you're not."

Sombra has her wary gaze fixed on Reaper. "What happened to the plan?"

"Plans change," Reaper growls. Black smoke curls and billows downwards, heavier than air, from the holes in his sleeves and collar. "Or maybe they intended it all along. We're on a need-to-know basis, remember? Who cares? Our job isn't to ask questions."

"Maybe yours isn't," she says. "Who gave the order?"

"I think you already know," Reaper says. "It comes from the top. Are you in or not? Please say no. I'd love the excuse to pay you back for all those doors you shut in my face."

"You don't have to do this," you say. Sombra turns to you. Her violet eyes look into yours, unreadable. You try to figure out what you could say to sway her over to your side -- or at least to prevent her from nuking Australia.

Don't bring up trying to bring her onto our roster, that might just scare her off. Just bring up that she's going to be the number one enemy of a lot of people if she does this, because there's no way Talon's shielding her from the fallout, and offer her a way out by siding with us. Not for too long, just here and now.

"They're using you as a pawn," you warn Sombra. "Who do you think is going to take the fall for this? If you go through with this, you'll be more than infamous. You'll be enemy number one. Beyond murder. It'll be genocide."

An ominous laugh emanates from the black ghost that is Reaper. "You're right about one thing, kid. We do have a fall guy. The only difference is that it's not her. It's you." He raises a hand as if to write an imaginary headline. "Return of global terrorists Overwatch. Millions dead. Or should it say "murdered"? Either way. You get the idea."

"Wait, so -- you were planning for us to show up? This was all a trap?" You have awful visions of a mushroom cloud on global video, the Overwatch logo superimposed, the news planting the blame squarely on you and the team.

"He's slow, but he gets around to it eventually, doesn't he?" observes Reaper to Sombra. "Come on. Hit the switch already. Let's get this over with."

"What if he's lying, though?" you ask her. "Or just wrong. If this follows you, you'll never escape it. You'll be locked into working with Talon for the rest of your life. They'll own you. Is that what you want?"

Sombra pulls up her virtual keyboard. For a moment you think she's going to do it, but she hesitates. Looks up at Reaper. You can feel her suspicions growing. How can she know for sure?

"Listen to me, Sombra," you say. "Don't do this. Don't make yourself into this. Not for Talon. We can find a way out of here. Together. Just like in Tokyo. What do you say?"

Sombra taps a button her keypad. You hear the loud grinding of machinery and fear the worst. She notes your alarm and smirks. "Relax, amigo. It's a shutdown program." She shrugs. "What can I say? You've got a point." She reaches out a hand to you. "Truce?"

You shake it. "Truce."

Another dark laugh from Reaper. "Oh, you don't know how much I was hoping you would do this." The black smoke flowing from his hood crackles with energy.

"Give it up, Reaper," you tell him, drawing your weapon in gun form. "Last time I handled you pretty easily by myself. This time it's two on one."

"Count again," he says. Talon operatives emerge from the other hallways leading into the reactor room. You look around and realize you're surrounded. You and Sombra instinctively put yourselves back to back, falling back into the old patterns from when you worked together.

Reaper reaches into his coat and withdraws two massive black shotguns. "I'll give you credit where it's due, kid. The first time we fought I underestimated you, and you caught me out on it. This time I won't. And since then I've had some upgrades. I'm stronger now."

"So am I," you tell him. You tighten your fingers on your gun's grip and steel your nerve.

"Sombra," you say to her. "Keep the flunkies off my back. I'll deal with Mr. Halloween here."

"Got it." The hacker draws a submachine gun from inside her jacket. "Just like old times, right, amigo? Only now I don't have to tell you I'll publish those pictures."

"Did you ever delete those, like you said you would?" you ask, thinking you already know the answer.

Her only response is a smile as she fades from view, shading to violet and then to invisible as her active camo takes effect. You hear running footsteps, and a few seconds later she reappears above and behind the Talon operatives. Her SMG lays down a spray of fire on them that forces them into cover. The two parties exchange fire, Sombra staying one step ahead of the concentrated barrages from the soldiers by using her cloaking tech and a short-range translocator that allows her to rapidly shift position. Whenever she gets to close range, her inaccurate but powerful weapon blasts an operative before she disappears.

Before you begin your own duel, you quickly radio the team. "Tracer, watch out up there. This whole thing might be a Talon trap!"

"Yeah, kinda figured that one out by now, Seeker," Tracer says, laser fire blasting in the background. She adds cheerfully, " But thanks!"

"What's going on up there? Did Junkrat sell us out?"

"I don't know! We were talking to this giant woman with a huge club, and then this orange-haired science woman showed up -- I think McCree knew who she was -- and then there was shooting!"

"Is Talon attacking Junkrat and Roadhog, or just at you?"

"I don't know! Both, I think! Err, whoops, hold on--" You hear a barrage of pulse munitions from Tracer's pistols. "I gotta go, Seeker! Back us up if you can!"

And here you were hoping to get backup of your own. Guess that's not happening. Your problems are your own to deal with. Not the first time you've had to face this man alone. You're sure you can win again. Definitely. Probably. Maybe.

Reaper slowly advances towards you, shotguns held at his sides. His aura of menace is like a wave of ice-cold darkness that threatens to pin you to the spot. You think about your friends, Tracer and Genji and even Sombra, and how they're counting on you, and you concentrate on the feeling of the gun grip in your hand.

"Go ahead, kid," Reaper says. "Make your move. If you can."

You raise your heavy pistol and unload a barrage of fire at Reaper. His body dissipates into black smoke, and the projectiles pass through harmlessly. The shadow advances on your position before coalescing into solid form again, and returns fire. You retreat, huge shotgun impacts blasting chunks of metal from the ground and walls, each one barely inches from you. A computer bank takes a direct hit and explodes in a spray of circuitry and electrical discharges. You manage to tag Reaper with a few hits to the chest and shoulder when he soldifies to fire at you, but a grunt and a billow of black smoke is your only reward for your efforts. Staying one step ahead of his attacks requires all your agility and concentration, and before you realize it you're backed into a corner.

Sombra isn't doing much better for herself. She's quick and clever, but most of her skills revolve around avoiding combat entirely. If she were fighting by herself, she could afford to use stealth tactics and take her time, disappearing and reappearing when least expected. Instead she's got to keep them busy and distracted so they don't pincer you in with Reaper. She takes down three operatives by herself,

Her battle goes well enough until a pair of heavily armored and shielded Lancers join the fray. She's able to take down one of them by hacking its shield, streams of pink light darting out from her holographic keyboard to shut down its systems, and then climbing up on top and delivering a full SMG magazine straight to the back of the helmet. Before she can get away, though, the second Lancer knocks her off its downed companions with a powerful blow. She hits the ground hard and rolls to a stop, dazed.

You could try to help her, but Reaper has you boxed in at close range. Nowhere to run now.

You kick your boots to life. Energy surges through Mercy's construction, the Caduceus Core, and a diffuse golden light surrounds you. Not having taken any wounds, the biotic nanites have no effect other than to grant you a pleasant tingling sensation under your skin. That's not what you needed, though. You needed the wings of golden light that form behind you, electromagnetic constructs that manipulate air. Unlike regular wings which push, these wings pull, yanking you forwards and upwards like a kung-fu actor on wires.

Reaper watches you go, not even trying to track you with his guns. You wonder what expression he's making under that mask as you sail lightly through the air over him, and toss him a jaunty wave as you pass by.

You flick your wrist to transform your weapon into a sword just before you land next to the second Lancer. You immediately attack, hewing with your blade in a series of big slashes, but the Lancer blocks each one with his energy shield. He counterattacks with his charged spear, and you barely dodge, the strike passing over your shoulder and ripping the resistant padding in your jacket. He keeps after you with a series of thrusts, which you parry and riposte. Your weapons clash repeatedly, throwing off arcs of energy.

Neither of you can gain an advantage, but you're struggling against the superior weight and strength of the bulky Lancer. Then pink lines connect themselves to the back of his suit and his shield suddenly deactivates. You seize the opening and ram home your sword. The Lancer falls. Behind his fallen form you see Sombra, bruised and bleeding from her nose, but on her feet.

"Thanks," you say. "You all right?"

She wipes her nose and grins at you. "Ahi vamos, amigo," she says. "I'm still standing."

You raise your EM shield to block a wave of fire from the Talon operatives from hitting both of you. Sombra grabs you by the arm and drags you down into cover, where the bullets fly over your heads.

"Any ideas?" you ask her.

"Lots," she says. "Ideas where both of us don't die? Not really. You?"

"Working on it," you say, thinking as fast as you can. You're not sure if you're winning, and especially not if you're winning fast enough to get topside and help Tracer with whatever's going on up there. Should you try something crazy? On the other hand, you definitely can't help her if you get your head blown off by those shotguns. Maybe slow and steady is the way to do it.

>>Go in first ... then have Sombra hack him

"Reaper is the main threat," you say to Sombra, formulating your plan as you say it out loud. "The small fry here we can deal with later, but we've got to take him down to get out of here. And from the sounds of it, things are going crazy topside. We're running out of time."

"Got something in mind?" she asks you.

"Can you disable him with your hack?"

"Not really. His nanites are stubborn little bastards after his latest upgrade. The good doctor remade him well, unfortunately for us. Anyway, my EMP should do the trick, at least for a moment."

"All right. I'll go in first and get his attention. When he's distracted, hit him with the pulse. Without his abilities, we can fill him with lead at our leisure."

"Worth a try. I'll be ready." Sombra switches on her camo, fading to violet and then nothing. Her light footsteps run off.

You'd like to cause some chaos via property destruction to cover you from the Talon flunkies, but that big pulsing energy sphere in the center of the room makes you wary of setting anything off. You'll have to rely on speed and awareness once the shooting starts again. Before that, though, maybe you can rely on being an annoying son of a bitch. Slipping out of a cover from an angle the soldiers haven't covered, you start walking towards Reaper. He watches you approach, unmoving.

"You know, when we were in the same line of work, I used to have a certain respect for Talon. Efficient, powerful, ruthless. But this, I mean, come on. This is crazy. Nuking Australia just to blame Overwatch?" You hesitate, then take a stab at it. "Do you really hate your former comrades that much -- Reyes?"

"You sound like you think you're clever for figuring that one out." With a hiss like escaping gas, Reaper detatches his mask. Underneath is a grim and torn visage, leaking black smoke from open wounds. Crimson irises stare at you from dark hollow eyes. The face of Gabriel Reyes. Once commander of Blackwatch. Hero to billions. Now barely human. A ghost of revenge. "And to answer your question, yes," he growls. "I hate them that much. I came back from the dead for them. I'll walk through hell to drag them down with me."

"I guess negotiation's off the table, then," you say.

"Come on, kid," Reaper reaffixes his skull mask. "I've got graves to spit on. Let's get this done."

You raise your sword up over your head and charge forward with a battle cry. The black ghost levels his shotguns with a dark laugh.

As you swing your blade, time seems to slow to a crawl. Your sword lowers. Reaper's guns rise. Your see your strike just barely miss as Reaper leans backwards, the tip of the sword digging a long scratch into the white mask. Then a blast of fire erupts at stomach level, and an incredible pain punches you in the gut and knocks you off your feet. You fall down onto your side, knocking your helmet on the ground. Your HUD fizzles and resets, and you look down at your own blood staining the ground, dripping from a hole in your side. Dizziness and nausea assaults you. Shit. That is a lot of blood. Is all of that yours?

Your rage flares brighter than the pain. Your mask begins to flash red. "All right," you manage to say, the breath heavy in your chest. "Now I'm mad."

You say that, but you have no idea how you're going to defend yourself from Reaper's next attack until Sombra decloaks behind him. She gestures, and for a moment hovers in midair, lifted by electric currents, as she gathers energy. Then she unleashes her secret weapon, an intense, heavily localized electromagnetic pulse. Reaper roars in agony as his form dissolves, leaving only a howling black smoke that writhes and churns like a storm. The white mask clatters to the ground.

Sombra teleports to your side in a flash of violet energy. "Is that what you call keeping him busy?" she asks, grabbing you by the upper arm on your un-injured side and dragging you behind cover.

You try to grin but end up just groaning and wincing. "I got carried away," you say, showing Sombra a "sorry" emote on your mask.

Sombra sighs. "Ay dios mio. Well, that bought us a moment, but not long. He'll reform soon enough." She takes out a small cylinder of blue liquid. A red cross is spray-painted over with Sombra's insignia, a purple skull. "Here. One of the old war-time medkits. I overclocked it myself. Patch yourself up."

Thankful but a little wary of Sombra's modifications, you take the medkit, switch it to aerosol, and spray it on the wound. Relief from the pain floods through you as the biotic nanites go to work repairing the damage.

Health: 155/200

You hand the medkit back to Sombra. "Thanks."

"Don't mention it," she says. "Now, about Reaper --"

Multiple guns are levelled at your head. You and Sombra look up to see the Talon operatives clustered around you, all pointing their guns at you.

"Right," Sombra says. "I knew we were forgetting something.

A green blur streaks through the pack of Talon operatives, slicing open some and knocking down the rest. Genji stands behind them holding his wakizashi, headband still fluttering in motion from his dash attack. "この程度か," he says, and sheathes the short blade, then turns to you. "Apologies for the delay, Seeker." His optic visor flickers as he takes in you and Sombra crouching together. "Might I inquire--?"

"Truce," you say. "Talon wanted to blow this place, and most of Australia. Kill millions. She wasn't willing to go that far."

"I just don't like being bossed around," she says, tossing her hair and looking nonchalant. You wonder how much of her flippancy is an act, and how much she was genuinely appalled at what she'd been asked to do. Maybe she really didn't care, and it's just about ego, like she claims. Or maybe, just maybe, there's a spark of good somewhere in there? Could it be that --

A roar resounds through the fusion core room, interrupting your thoughts. Reaper is reforming, but badly. The black smoke twists and coils, refusing to settle down. Jagged fangs, too much for a human mouth, clash and snarl. Crimson eyes, too many for a human face, stare in all directions from the darkness. "Traitors," an inhuman voice growls. "All of you. I am betrayed because of you. I am this creature because of you!" His hands become giant black claws, gouging furrows in the metal floor. "You will pay! Overwatch must die!"

"Everyone, open fire!" you call out, raising your pistol. "Hit him with everything you've got!"

Sombra's SMG fires with a ripping sound. Genji throws shurikens as fast as he can produce them. Neither of them are heavy hitters in the artillery department -- that's up to you. The quantum capacitor in your gun is overflowing with crackling energy, and you thumb the switch to activate the magneton furnace inside. The gun builds up a massive charge before unloading it in three blasts with deafening booms that resound through the fusion chamber. The shots fired are thin energy beams of immense power. Each strikes the flowing black storm that is Reaper, impacting with a much wider circular hole punched through and left empty by its passage, and goes on to blast through the machinery behind him with explosive force (you made sure you were facing away from the big glowing sphere before firing).

Your combined firepower continuously tears Reaper's form apart, keeping it as a pillar of black smoke and preventing it from re-assembling into something like a man. But it doesn't disippate it either. Nothing you throw at it seems to be doing anything other than increasing the violence and intensity of the living, raging stormcloud.

A scream of rage and pain howls from within. Crimson eyes appear and multiply in the darkness. The black smoke begins to grow fangs and claws, impossible appendages created from mist for the purpose of slaughter.

Sombra takes a step back, awe and terror on her face. "That fucking doctor -- I knew she was crazy, but this, I -- I didn't know --! Moira, you stupid bitch! What have you done to him?!"

"We'll have time for that later!" you shout at her, grabbing her arm. "Can they break your code to the generator? Can they blow it without you?"

"No! They can destroy the complex, but that won't initiate the reaction!"

The black smoke pillar collapses and begins to flows along the ground in your direction, a dark river of shadows and teeth and crimson eyes.

"Then we're getting the hell out of here!" You push Sombra and Genji in front of you towards the exit, leading to the surface. "Move move move!"

Mere steps ahead of that terrifying black shape you make it to the exit. You glance backwards to see it hanging back, something else catching its attention. A clawed limb reaches out from the smoke and grabs one of the still-living Talon operatives. You don't wait to see what it does, instead turning away to follow Sombra and Genji down a narrow hall lit by emergency red lighting.

But you can still hear the screaming, when it begins.

The three of you emerge into bright sunlight, slam a heavy metal door closed behind you, pull the lever to lock it shut, and topple the nearby furniture as barricades. Something huge slams against the other side of the door once, twice, a third time. Then the rushing sound on the other side fades away, a snarl receding into the darkness.

You sit down in the dust, trying to catch your breath. Sombra flops down on the ground near you. "Ooof! That was a close one. I thought he had me for a moment there. Poor Gabe. What a shame." She pushes herself up to sit next to you, and gives you a wry smile. "Someone really needs to help him with those anger management issues."

"What happened to him? Did --" You pause, not sure if you want to know the answer. "Did Mercy do that to him?"

"Not really. You could say she started things along. But the way he is now? That's Talon. Courtesy of a woman named Moira O'Deorain." She frowns. "I should be charging you for this information, shouldn't I?"

"Put it on my tab."

Genji activates his communicator. "Tracer, what is your status?"

"We're orright, thanks, pal," Tracer's voice replies through mild distortion. "McCree showed up in the nick of time to help us out, but in the firefight we got separated. He took off with the fat one. I can't get a hold of him on the radio, but it's Jesse, I'm sure he's fine. As for me, I'm holed up with the stinky one, trying to sell him on the modern wonder that is a bathtub. What about you?"

"We are fine," Genji replies. He glances at you, then at Sombra, then back to you. You nod. He adds, "We have formed a truce against Talon with the agent known as Sombra."

"Whaaaat?!"

"C'mon, Tracer," you say, trying to keep your voice light. "We're already on a team-up adventure with Talon agents. What's one agent more or less?"

"Are you sure about this, Seeker? Do you trust her?"

"Not really," you admit. "But it's the best option we've got for now. No offense," you add, looking at Sombra. She shrugs innocently, as if to say, who, me?

Tracer describes her hiding place, a sheet metal shanty perched high on the sprawling chaos that is the Junkertown slum. "Better make it quick, mates," she adds, shouting voices in the background. "I think we've been rumbled."

You can hear shouting in the direction of Tracer's hideout, but otherwise the streets are quiet as you head that way. The ordinary folks who live here are shut away in their homes. As you move, quickly but carefully, you ask Sombra, "So who is this Moira person?"

Genji is the one who answers. "She was once the medical advisor to Blackwatch. Geneticist. Even in those days, she was rather unhinged. Reyes recruited her directly. I now believe his objective was to experiment using Mercy's technology, without her moral restraint. Until now, I was not sure if Moira also had become a Talon agent."

"Not just an agent," Sombra says. "She's a big shot now. One of the "inner council."" She pronounces that last word with mockery, and adds some vulgar Spanish slang your helmet fails to translate.

"And she made Reyes into --" You struggle to describe what you saw back there. "Into what he is now?"

"Ah, I see," Sombra says. "You thought your golden-haired angel might be responsible for such a crime against humanity, did you? Then again, maybe it was her who performed the initial experiments, and Moira merely built on her existing work? Who can say?"

"You could," you tell her. "Seeing as you're the world's greatest hacker and general all-around nosiest person, and there's no way you'd let information like that just sit around on the Talon mainframe without helping yourself."

"Oh ho ho. You're such a flatterer, Logan, really. Now, er, let's discuss our current situation, shall we? I think I've fulfilled my end of the bargain. I helped you escape from our spooky friend back there. Time for me to vamos."

Should you let her take off? It could be for the best. She might be more trouble than she's worth, and you're not sure just how far you can trust her. On the other hand, she's played you straight so far, and it's true that without her help you might've been killed or eaten alive back there. If she waffles, you're pretty sure you could pull enough leverage on her to get her to stick around and help you out. The fact that you're surrounded by a hundred miles of desert and she needs a ride out of here would be a good start.

"Actually, you're under arrest," you say to Sombra. "But I'm a generous warden. Instead of a cell, I'll let you stay in my bedroom. How about it?"

Sombra chuckles. "Nice try, chulo. Maybe some other time."

"Do you have some way of getting back to civilization through a hundred miles of irradiated desert?"

"I've got a few ideas. One thing they aren't short of around here is cars."

"That's true. All right, well -- before you go, can I get your contact info? Something tells me you might need a new job after this little incident. I'm not stupid enough to ask you to put on a white hat. But maybe I can hire you sometime."

Sombra taps her chin with one finger, a smug smile on her lips. "What if I told you that you already had my number?"

"Uhh -- I'm not sure what that means, but I'm sure I'll figure it out. One last thing." You hold out your hand with your fingers extended in a certain way. "Remember this?" Your secret handshake. A running gag between you, from back when you were in the same line of work. The two of you made it up on the spot before a mission, and just kind of kept doing it.

"Ay estupido," Sombra says. "That brings me back." She reaches out and exchanges with you a rapid-fire sequence of claps and finger-taps. She looks up at you, smiling despite herself. Not the smug smirks or laughing grins. A genuine smile.

"See you soon, then, amigo," she says, and adds to Genji, "It was very nice to meet you, Mister Shimada."

Genji bows slightly. "The pleasure was mine."

As she fades to violet, Sombra waves to Genji, and blows you a kiss with a wink, before she vanishes.

"Once again, your acquaintances in the criminal underworld prove useful," observes Genji.

"It's all about who you know, right?"

You and Genji arrive at Tracer's hiding spot, a small metal shack high up on the top layer of the complex shantytown sprawl. The good news is that it's on high ground and defensible. The bad news is it's surrounded by bad guys, fifty of them at least. Junkers and Talon operatives, standing together -- the wastelanders don't seem to know about Talon's plans for betrayal just yet.

In the center of the enemy forces is an awe-inspiring figure, a woman who towers over everyone around her. Her hair is shaved into a mohawk, and she holds a gigantic powered mace resting on her broad and muscled shoulders. She stands with the easy confidence and surety of complete authority, surrounded by well-equipped and armored warriors.

"The Junker Queen," you say to Genji, the two of you observing from a hidden spot. "I thought she might have been just a legend. But there she is, in the flesh. Those guys around her must be an elite guard or something."

"Junkrat!" bellows the Queen at the top of her sizeable lungs, and unleashes an impressive string of profane and vulgar insults, even for an Australian. She finishes off by saying, "Get your ass down here so I can kill you myself!"

You hear faintly a shout from Junkrat, high up in the shanty. "Get stuffed!"

Not a single part of this plan is good.

The Junker Queen has literally no reason to believe us when we're working with her enemies, the Junkers. We're sacrificing the advantage of surprise to futilely 'warn' somebody with very little actual proof, if any, while they have every reason to disbelieve us.

Flirting with her is just likely to piss her off and make her even more likely to react badly to us. I understand 'the memes lol' but this is actually braindead. Please, don't do this plan. If you want to flirt with the Queen, do it later, not now.
>>
>>2397442
The blood stains and possible left over Talon agent limbs(if Reyas didn't eat all of them), should do the job nicely. Implying we couldn't just show them the video footage from our helmet to her highness. Possibly in her quarters.
>>
>>2397442
Honestly this. We have no reason right now to willingly step out of cover other than "We might get some musclegirl pussy guise!" Even if we don't get decimated instantly by the inevitable bulletstorm, we're outsiders who've come in from seemingly nowhere with a "holier than thou attitude" and their worst enemies. Why would anyone believe us, especially irradiated nitwits in the boonies, when Talon has probably been grooming them for months?

Every part of this plan works in favor of getting us killed, and it only has steam because anons with shit taste is blinded by some cow tits and big biceps.

>>2397463
Yeah, sure. We totally have video footage, and we can totally get an audience with the queen in the middle if a fucking firefight, and Talon totally didn't clean shit up.

Keep thinking with your dicks anons. Just don't complain when we roll 1's and we kill somebody.
>>
>>2397463
Talon can explain that easily. "Overwatch tried to blow the reactor, but we drove them off after a fight." And that's not portable evidence either.

Not even going to address "show footage in bedroom".
>>
>>2397482
Who would believe a terrorist organization like Talon?
Also, we have footage of us and sombra talking about it, with reye's admittal that talon wanted to nuke australia
>>
>>2397631
Its just a pair of no funs, ignore them
>>
>>2397442
While I agree that the imagery of the plan is great, this guy's got it right.
Nothing good is going to come of this; there's no immediate proof of what we're saying, there's no way Talon would even let her hear us out, and the flirting has as much chance of making things worse as whatever else it's supposed to do.
>>
>>2397631
My dude, what are you on right now?
The Junkers don't care whether or not people are considered international terrorists. They are notorious for terrorizing the Outback and the surrounding area, killing Omnics in cold blood, and they even tried to fight US last thread. The only reason they don't like the Junkrat and Roadhog is because they attacked Junkertown, so the Queen banished them.

Talon has obviously been here for a while, and they must have a good relationship with the Junkers. If the Junkers "didn't trust terrorist organizations", why would they not be killing each other right now?

>>2397649
I think this quest is fun, I just don't want to get us killed by doing possibly the stupidest thing we can do in this moment, since I don't think ending the quest is "fun" at all.
>>
>>2397674

>>

They would believe that organization with a rep for murder killing, assorted terrorism and bombing is more likely involved in murder killing, and bombing people than the organization of do-gooders.
They don't like us because we're world police. But she's also smart enough that world police don't nuke countries.

If we can reveal Talon's plot to the Junker Queen, then we can make her an ally, and a source of resources to end the threat that Talon is proving to be to everyone- her included.
She should be able to see the pragmatism in helping us stop Talon. Also, it might get Junkrat and Roadhog a pardon, or an exile into our custody because we frame it as them assisting in saving all of australia. Win-Win-Win.

People are a resource the Corps would like to make use of. It's not like they are only in the business of primary resource gathering.

Australia is the perfect place to establish a corporation owned country because no one cares about it. Factories with all the corners cut, free research into illegal technologies. That sort of stuff.

>>

There are enough of them. And the land is useful enough, seeing as how its a blank canvas to be used as needed. The people are just a bonus.
>>
>>2398420

>blank canvas
>useful

you need something to build upon that ISN'T irradiated dust, friendo
>>
>>2398429
Not if you're a corporation capable of importing shit. Then you just need space without those pesky laws to tell you what you can't do. Then you can do whatever you want to make money. Move workers to Australia where there are no labour laws.
Perform experiments where there are no requirements to be humane.
If you think a corporation would not jump at the oportunity to outright own a country, you must be braindead.
>>
>>2398411
Ur a good guy moon
>>
>>2398438
They'd have to scrub away all the radiation, which, I might add, is pretty tough to completely remove.

Unless of course they want to keep importing people to their newfound blank slate.
>>
>>2398438
If the Corps really wanted to be in here, they would've crushed Junkertown by now in the name of enforcing the law, then claimed it themselves. Australia is an irradiated fucking wasteland, mate. Nobody wants anything to do with it, nobody can do anything with it.

>>2398411
I appreciate how downright reasonable that was. Thank you. Of course, the train has already left the station and everyone aboard is plugging their ears and singing, so it doesn't matter a hell of a lot, but there it is.
>>
>>2398471
Build an arcology. Leave the outside a wasteland
>>
>>2398481

>an arcology

honestly outer space would be cheaper and there are no labor laws there, either
>>
>>2398484
How the hell would outer space ever be a cheaper option for having people do stuff then on land?
Shipping, habitation, everything is cheaper on the earth.
Are you dumb?
>>
>>2398496

I think you're forgetting how goddamned tough it is to completely scrub an area of radiation. And by this point space travel is cheap as dicks (for Lucheng)

Moonbase, anyone?
>>
>>2398509
There's radiation in space dumbo.
And you don't have to scrub all of Australia. because you build an arcology that is shielded.
>>
>>2398523

I know that there's radiation in space dickfuck, but if you want a truly blank slate, it's easier to just go to space than try and rebuild Australia at this point

>arcology
How small are you talking, then? Because it wouldn't be cost-effective for anything more than a research outpost
>>
>>2398530
It would be unnecessarily expensive. Because getting shit into orbit isn't easy, and assembling it would require space worthy stuff. Terrestrial construction would always be cheaper.

A city sized. with manufacturing, research and everything else needed.
>>
>>2398539
>building a city sized arcology

Its remarkable easy to deal with radiation if you are able to just bulldoze over everything.

Sounds like you don't understand how to rotate your crops and use chemical fertilizers so that you don't need to be always importing, and don't understand hydroponics don't even need dirt, and there is nothing wrong with it anyways.
It's not like hydroponically grown tomatoes are suddenly shit tier.
>>
>>2398577

yes, they are, since they don't have the natural regional blends of nutrients and minerals that normal ones do

Do you know how to grow food? DO you think farmers are burying their fields in fresh imported dirt every year?
Or that crop rotation involves planting crops that restore the soil fertility.

>yes, they are, since they don't have the natural regional blends of nutrients and minerals that normal ones do
Add the minerals to the water. make genetically superior tomatoes. do any solution to the barely a problem. It's the future, dumbass.
>>
>>2398591
The soil still has an environment around it, and artificially inducing the effects of an environment is inferior to actually having said environment.

>genetically superior tomatoes

no one gives a shit about the genetics of tomatoes except farmers and 3rd world people trying to grow food, I'm talking about taste and shit. Artificial nutrient inducement may be able to mimic the effects to an extent, but it will never be on the level of naturally-grown tomatoes or whatever
>>
>>2398594

Yeah, its' a fucking travesty. It's not like you can genetically alter for flavour as well as growth and nutrition.

Most of the flavour comes from glucose and glucose derivatives, like starch. Which is a piss easy molecule fro plants to make as it just needs water, sun and carbon dioxide.

I bet you think artificial diamonds are inferior to real ones. You dumb monkey luddite.
>>
>>2398646
correction: making glucose from sunlight is hard: it took a long time for plants to get that one right evolution wise in a cost effective manner.
>>
>>2398690
It took a long time due to trial and error. Once you have the process, its just managing inputs. And plants have the process in built. Getting more sugar from them is minor tweaks to the chloroplast DNA

"Genji," you tell him, holstering your weapon. "Find a way up to Tracer's holdout, out of sight of these guys. Try to get her and Junkrat out of there, without being seen, if you can."

"What will you do?" he asks.

"Something really stupid."

"I was afraid you'd say that," Genji sighs. "I hope you still have as much talent for getting out of dangerous situations as getting into them." He places a metallic hand on your shoulder for a moment. "Good luck, Seeker."

"Thanks, pal. Don't worry about me. I got this."

You say that, but as you stand up on the rusted hulk of a car, in full view of the crowd of vicious, cruel, and heavily armed raiders, you wonder just what the fuck you're doing. Oh well. No going back now.

You don't get their attention right away, so amplifying your voice slightly via your helmet, you shout, "Attention, citizens of Junkertown!" Many of the wastelanders, curious, turn in your direction. "My name is Seeker! Nice to meet you all. I have information critical to your survival! I must be allowed to speak to your Queen!"

The raiders mutterly angrily, and it soon escalates to shouting, and having weapons aimed in your direction. The Queen regards you with an amused expression. "Let him pass!" she calls out. Her men step back with surly reticence, clearing a narrow path for you to walk to her.

Your heart is pounding, but you force yourself to walk into the crowd of savage raiders with an easy confidence, ignoring all the hostile glares and the weapons turning to track you. By the time you get there, you're surrounded by gun barrels, all pointed in your direction. The Queen is guarded by scarred, dangerous-looking warriors wearing heavy gear covered in spikes. Even more intimidating than her army, however, is the Queen herself. The biggest woman you've ever seen in your life, radiating an aura of regal power and menace. Her arm muscles ripple with contained strength as she re-grips her mace, and she looks down on you with an amused smirk, waiting to see what you'll do.

"Let me just say this before I begin." You lean casually against something and give the Junker Queen the finger-guns. "How you doin'?"

(Continued)
>>
>>2399948

"Hah! Interesting!" The gigantic woman takes her mace off her shoulders and plants the head in the ground with a heavy thump that kicks up dust. "I admire your boldness, Mr. Seeker, if not your sense. What can I do for you? Have you perhaps come to explain why you and your friends have invaded my sanctuary, killed my men, and most importantly, interrupted my day?"

"Just giving you a heads up," you say, pointing to the cluster of Talon operatives nearby. "These Talon assholes were planning on blowing you all the fuck up. Check this out." You engage the audio playback feature on your recorder, and your helmet's speaker begins replaying the conversation from earlier.

"Change of plans," Reaper says. "Blow it."

"What?" Sombra asks.

"You heard me. Set it to overload."

"But -- that would cover half the continent in fallout. The half that's not already a wasteland. Not to mention destroying Junkertown, who, ah, we've just promised our alliance to."

"That's the point. Do I need to spell this out for you?"

You click off the playback and gauge the reaction. The wastelanders look pissed, some of them turning with hostile glares towards the Talon agents.

One of her elites, a man with an eyepatch, tells her, "It's nothing. A fake."

A man with a spray-painted hockey mask tells her, "What if it's not, though? When was the last time we heard from our men in the reactor room?"

The Queen appears unmoved, looking down at you in impassive judgement. "Take off your mask," she commands. Warily, you do so, pulling back your hood and retracting your helmet into your collar. The Queen looks into your eyes with a penetrating stare that you bravely meet. "Is this real?" she asks you.

You meet the Queen's gaze and say, "It's real. I stopped him, so you're no longer in danger. But it happened." Her steely eyes bore into you, searching for weakness or trickery. You withstand them as best you can.

You're leaving out the part where your goal here was also to demolish the fortress. You planned on doing it in a way that wouldn't kill millions, of course, so you had to stop Talon's plan. But now you're in the strange situation of trying to convince the Queen that you're on her side, even though you came here to blow up her house.

Eyepatch guy snarls, "He's bluffing!" He gestures with a huge knife made of scrap metal. "My lady, let me spill his guts on the sand. We'll get the truth out of him then!"

"And if he's telling the truth?" asks the man in the hockey mask. "What then? Those creeps just tried to kill us! To blow us all to kingdom come!"

"I knew we couldn't trust Talon," mutters a third man.

"That's bullshit!" calls a fourth. "Why would they help us just to stab us in the back?"

A fifth shouts, "I saw we waste 'em all!"

"Hmm! Interesting indeed." The Queen turns her head and addresses someone behind her. "Well, witch? What say you? Does he speak truly?"

"Of course not, my lady," a female voice says smoothly. The wastelander army parts, revealing a woman with red hair and a cybernetic eyepiece, wearing a dark robe over a heavily teched-out bodysuit with wide tubes carrying a viscous purple liquid. "The boy is desperate to save his own skin, and those of his friends. He knows they cannot rival you in power, and thus his best attempt is this pathetic charade, to turn us against each other."

"You must be Moira," you say.

"Indeed. Seeker, is it?" Moira inclines her head in a slight nod, with a mocking smile. "How nice to make your acquaintance. Unfortunate that it will be short-lived." She turns and bows to the Queen. "With your permission, my lady, we will arrest him now. We in the council have decided that, if possible, this one should be brought in alive." She looks back at you with a smile of malicious desire.

Sweat trickles down your back, and you try to ignore the circle of guns pointed at you as you try to think of what to do.

"Talon doesn't do long alliances if it doesn't work long-term. As strong as Junkertown is, it's not the type of force that can fight around the world. "So you're the person who turned Gabriel Reyes into what he is now. Before we get into this, I just want to mention, Moira, that what you've done is pretty fucked up. Not just making him an eternally resurrecting nanobot swarm fueled by hate, but -- did you need to add so many teeth? And the cannibalism? I mean, really."

"Gabriel asked me for the power to destroy those who he hates," Moira says. "I merely carried out his wishes to the best of my ability. As I have always done. Every time he asks for my help, I am there to aid him." Her wide mouth twists into a cruel smile. "Is that not a doctor's purpose?"

"You're sick, lady," you tell her, then turn to the Queen. "You realize this is the type of person you're dealing with? Anyone you have down in the lower levels is probably getting eaten by Reaper right now. I've got no idea how to stop him, but that crazy bitch might." You point at Moira. "Also, you might want to stay out of needle range of her."

Some of the wastelanders near Moira edge away nervously.

"Talon is using you, and will destroy you to cover their tracks. They're the greater enemy here."

"Hmm," says the Queen. "As opposed to you, yes? You never did mention what you were doing here."

"Uhhh -- that's not important right now, is it?"

"Yes. It is." She smiles, her eyes narrowing.

You think fast. She already knows Junkrat's here, obviously. Could you pretend to be unconnected? Probably not. "Look, uh -- my lady, is it? I might be your enemy, but I'm no liar. I know we may not have met under the best of circumstances, but --"

The Queen grabs you by the throat with one hand. Choking, you grab on and manage to relieve enough pressure to gasp for breath, but you can't pry her fingers off. She hauls you up, holding you suspended in midair.

"What does the rat want? Tell me, or I'll start breaking things."

"Gkk--" is about all you can reply with. You swing your legs in the air to try and kick at the Queen, but it seems like her whole body is made of iron.

Moira chuckles. "Oh dear. Cat got your tongue, boy?"

Your throat is caught in a vice. Your lungs are burning, your vision swims. Your helmet's mask display flickers through random images.

Something booms, and the ground shakes. For a moment you think the worst, and that Talon figured out how to set off the reactor below you, and you're all doomed. Then you see the blossoming fireball rising into the sky. Surprisingly, in the opposite direction as Junkrat.

The Queen's grip slackens as she's distracted, looking towards the exposion. "Go see what that is!" she barks at a nearby group of raiders, who turn to hustle away.

Your vision clears in time to see a blue streak zipping through the air above the wastelanders. When it slows for a moment you see Tracer hopping through the crowd, planting her feet on raiders' heads and shoulders and leaping to the next, before accelerating again and disappearing in a blur of blue energy. Faster than should be possible, she's at your side, balanced preciously on top of Hockey Masks's huge shoulder pads. She pauses to throw you a jaunty salute. "Hiya!"

The raiders stare at her, dumbfounded.

Tracer fires her automatic pistols at the Queen, but Eyepatch has a big scrap metal shield and steps forward to protect his liege, blocking the shots. Tracer blinks into the air and, for a single moment of real time, balances precariously on the top edge of the shield with one foot. Then she shifts her weight around in an acrobatic maneuver and leaps forward to jump kick the Queen square in the chin. The blow knocks the huge woman backwards, and her grip releases, dropping you to the ground.

Still gasping for breath, drawing air into your lungs, you immediately activate the Mercy core in your boots and shoot into the air. "Jump!" you call out to Tracer, your voice ragged.

Tracer leaps straight up and blinks, resolving in reality just underneath you. She reaches up and your gloved hands clasp. You sail away on your wings of light, evading fire from the wastelanders as best you can ...

You use your final burst of energy from the Caduceus core to swoop up to high ground. You drop Tracer down onto the sheet metal roof of a shack and land beside her.

"Man, am I glad to see you," you say, and laugh, still in a rush. You reach out and tousle Tracer's spiky hair. "Thanks for the assist."

"Same to you, love," she says, grinning up at you and patting you on the lower back. "Good catch."

"Did Junkrat and Genji make it out?"

"Yeah, Genji managed to sneak out with the little stinker in tow. He said he'd look for McCree and Roadhog."

"All right, so we just need to find them, and get the hell out of here."

Looking back, you see the wastelanders have chased after you and now surround the base of the stack of slum housing you're perched several stories high on. Several of them fire primitive firearms up at your position, and you take cover. Some raiders slam open a door on the ground floor and begin to proceed up the interior of the building, while others begin to climb a ladder of thin iron leading up the metal wall, but too many of them crowd the ladder at once, and it rips free from the wall and falls back to the ground, complete with its cargo of screaming raiders.

Beyond the crowd of raiders below you, you see another group of them facing off with the Talon operators. Each group has their weapons raised and pointed, but there's no firing just yet. Moira and the Junker Queen are arguing.

Tracer and you take a few moments for your abilities to fully recharge, listening to the shouting of the crowd below you, and the progress of the raiders coming up the inside of the building. Just before they burst out onto the roof, the two of you strike out across the highest levels of Junkertown, Tracer blinking across the gaps between buildings, while you use your wall-running and high-jump abilities with the occasional boost from Mercy's wings.

As you're running, you contact Genji and McCree, and soon arrive at their location. They've reunited along with Junkrat and Roadhog, and the four of them have fortified an L-shaped intersection, turning vehicles and scrap metal walls into barricades. Both roads leading to their position are covered in the wreckage of battle. You and Tracer make your way down from the roofs and join them.

McCree says, "Glad ta see everyone's all right. What now?"

"We've done what we came here to do, mates," Junkrat says. "We can leave any time."

"Just what was that, anyhow?" Tracer asks. "The way I saw it, you handed over a big cart full of gold and treasure to the Queen for nothing. You talked a big game about forgiveness, and then she ordered her men to shoot you! Were you expecting her to pardon you and let you back in or something? Bloody idiot!"

Junkrat winks and taps the side of his nose, indicating a secret. Tracer groans in frustration.

"Was that the treasure you talked about?" you ask him.

"Nah, mate," Junkrat says. "Just some cash we happened to come across."

You think back to the headlines a few weeks ago, about the bank heist in Dorado. "I wondered what happened to all that gold," you say.

"Anyway," Tracer says. "The Orca can pick us up by remote. Just gotta figure out where."

Right now, I'm thinking about how if we stay here, we would be facing the forces of the Raiders + Moira/Queen. But what's on the back of my mind is a possibility of Reaper. He was deterred from following us because we locked {ONE} door. He could find another way out, claw his way to the surface, and rip us to pieces. "Let's get to high ground," you say. "Somewhere on the edge of the city. We can defend it while waiting for the Orca to pick us up." You scan the area and see a likely-looking building, and point to it. "Up there."

"All right," Tracer says. She looks up at the building and taps her goggles, activating the targeting software inside. "Athena, you got it?"

"I am routing the Orca now," Athena replies.

The six of you head in that direction. You take the vanguard along with Tracer and Genji, running ahead, while McCree, Junkrat and Roadhog follow behind, going as fast as Roadhog's bulk will allow. The big man is agile over short distances, but by the time you reach the ground floor of your destination he's tuckered out, his ravaged lungs wheezing through his mask.

A shadow passes over the entire group. You all look up to see a huge shape above. A crude airship of scrap metal and spare parts, slowly passing overhead. A cargo bay opens, and something is launched out and begins to fall on top of you.

"Bombs?" you say.

"Worse!" Junkrat says, recoiling in fear. "Drop bears! Everyone inside! Run for your lives!"

Roadhog shoulder-checks open the door leading into the first floor of the building, slamming it open. You all get indoors just as the first wave hits the ground outside. Adorable koalas spring to their feet and charge your position with razor-sharp fangs and bloodlust.

The drop bears snap and bite at your heels as you flee up the stairs. The creatures have shocking running speed -- and leaping distance. One of them launches himself at you and sinks its fangs into your forearm, and you're forced to blast it in the head at point-blank range to free yourself. The image of that cute furry face and its beady eyes disappearing in a spray of blood will haunt you for the rest of your days.

Roadhog jams a crank into a slot on his gun and begins to turn it. His gun spits out scrap ammo at rapid fire like an automatic shotgun, filling the hall with a devastating volume of fire and blasting back the wave of drop bears. His gun clicks empty, but he's made enough space for Junkrat and McCree to drag over a heavy box to jam in front of the door and barricade it.

Like a huge swarm of flies, a dark cloud rises into the air and descends on the roof. Some of it materializes into a familiar black-cloaked figure, this time without a mask. "There you are," Reaper says. "I'm feeling much better after a little snack. Now where were we?" He takes out a pair of shotguns. The black smoke swirls and eddies in the air around him. "Ah, that's right. I was killing you."

"Gabriel?" Genji asks. "Is that really you?"

"So it's true," mutters McCree. "Damn that woman. Moira really did a number on you, huh, Gabe?"

"You two," Reyes growls. "You betrayed me with everyone else. You were my students, my closest allies, and you -- you! You turned your backs on me! You left me to die!"

Genji reaches out to him. "It's not true, Gabriel! We searched for you! We --!"

McCree rests his hand on Genji's shoulder, holding him back. "I don't think we're gonna get through to him, pardner. He's been in the dark too long."

"Rrraaargh!" Reaper screams in rage, black smoke boiling out of his body. He levels his shotguns, but at that moment an explosive shell strikes the roof between you, gouging a huge chunk out of the roof.

You look up to see cannons mounted on the underside of the airship. Reaper howls again, even louder, and dissipates into a cloud of shadows, then rises into the air and streaks towards the airship, vanishing inside.

You watch the airship with bated breath. An explosion blasts out from one compartment, then another. Fire soon spreads to the massive rotors keeping the machine aloft. Within minutes the huge craft is angling towards the ground and falling, going down in flames.

You see the Orca approaching, and a sigh of relief escapes you. It looks like you might get through this in one piece. You turn to Junkrat and say, "Well? Was it worth it? Did you accomplish your plan?"

Junkrat says, "Ooooh, right! That reminds me!" He pulls out something that looks suspiciously like a detonator.

"Wait, don't--!"

He presses it.

Nothing happens.

"What was that connected to?" you ask warily.

"A little surprise for the Queen," Junkrat says. "Don't worry, mate. I gave it a timer for ten minutes." He pauses and looks up, holding his chin. "Or was that ten seconds?"

"Everybody in!" You shout as the Orca arrives, just before a massive boom resounds.

A huge explosion engulfs the fortress. Debris and smoke are sent sky-high. Supports destroyed, the building begins to buckle and fall inwards, grinding itself to scrap and powder.

The Orca hovers at roof level, and one by one you all jump the distance. Roadhog, going last, slips and almost doesn't make it, grabbing onto the edge. All five of you take hold of his arms and haul him inside even as the Orca takes off and the debris from the explosion begins to rain down. Several pieces impact the aircraft, and you see a gold coin strike the window and rebound. Athena, piloting the aircraft by remote, manages to evade the larger chunks, and clears the area with only a few scratches.

Looking back, you see the explosion clearing, and the fortress collapsing into ruin. Where once stood a mighty seat of power is now nothing but dust and flame.

"Haha, we did it!" Junkrat leaps to his feet and raises his fists in triumph. "We showed that old bint what for, eh Roadie?" Junkrat runs over to Roadhog, who is too tired to get to his feet but nonetheless raises his hand to high-five his companion.

Junkrat races over to you, grabs one of your hands in both of his, and pumps it vigorously. "Thanks for your help down there, mates!" he says, running to the other team members to do the same. "Bang-up job! Like real professionals!"

"We aim to please," you tell him.

McCree sits down on a bench and lights a cigar. Genji sits beside him. Both of them look like they're shaken. Considering they just learning for a fact that the rumors are true, that Reaper and their old commander are one and the same, you can't blame them.

Tracer says, "Seeker, can you help me check something in the cockpit?" When you follow her up there, she turns to you and says quietly, "So, er, we gotta decide what to do with those two. By rights we should arrest them, but -- well, we got through this together in the end, so maybe they aren't all bad. And I get the feeling Talon won't be so happy with them after this, so maybe we've got nothing to worry about? On the other hand, they are violent criminals ... can we really just let them run off?" She shrugs. "I dunno, mate. I'm no good at these things. It's your call."

If they're just mercs we work with from time to time, we're going to get shit for working with them *anyway*. If we're gonna have to deal with "look at who Overwatch associates with", it might as well be somewhere we can keep an eye on them and maybe even be a good influence on them.

Or, if not,

I know that it may be bad for us to bring them along. "But". Letting them go means throwing them back into the world where they can loot and bomb. If we imprison them, then they're gonna escape. We know that they're gonna escape and be pissy about it. Offer them a shot as agent, or if not, mercenaries.

If we give them a workshop, junkrat could make new bombs, and maybe even act as a sort of demolitions tester for our defenses (How many bombs does it take to remove a blast door? Improve after each test to make sturdier doors)

I'm actually a little impressed with Junkrat's demolition talent. From the description of the blast, it sounds like quite a clean destruction. Folding in neat in on itself to actually reduce collateral.

we can cross that bridge when we get there

From the same team member. Every time. If that's not leaning on Athena, idk what is.

"What is your input on the situation?" isn't the same as "do everything for me"
That's not hand-holding. I can only remotely kind of see it being that if we're doing something time-sensitive that requires you to be decisive RIGHT NOW, which isn't the case here.
The little voice in your head calling you a pussy for doing things correctly instead of "manning up" and doing stupid shit because you care about appearances? Ignore it.
>>
>>2401479
Make em into some kind of.....suicide squad
>>
>>2401534
No. No more Blackwatch, or anything remotely resembling Blackwatch. We're not gonna be repeating history, dammit.
>>
>>2401534
there are just way too many movie comparisons to be made with what we're doing here
I'M PUTTING TOGETHER A TEAM
>>
>>2401530
I think you're projecting the voices in your head thing. Also kek, "doing things correctly". The arrogance.

Learning how to be decisive isn't actually the same as "doing stupid shit because you care about appearances". This has been going on since practically the start, we're not changing. It's a skill, and I haven't seen us really practise it much.

>>2401534
-10 for that reference.

>>2401534
That's just Blackwatch all over again

At the least, Athena can provide an estimate on how much of a threat Junkrat and Roadhog are to the base itself if something of theirs goes haywire.

in all seriousness, offer them work as mercs as clean licensed mercs or something

Writing.

That's the safest option, same deal as Sombra.

On that point, I'd say this was a wildly successful op. We've got hard intel on Junkrat and Roadhog, we know what the Junkers have, we busted up a Talon-Junker alliance and ultimately ruined Talon operations in Australia while getting intel on Talon assets and organization, and as the cherry on top, we flipped a crucial Talon asset (Sombra).
>>
>>2401570
And we kicked Reaper's ass. Again.
>>
>>2401570
I don't think we can fully say we flipped her as much as aided in bringing about the end of her contract.

That's a flip in my book. Getting her off Talon's payroll is a major monkey off our back.

I suggest we start giving ourselves the unofficial title of "Talon Homewrecker" since we keep fucking up all of their relationships.

"I'm thinking of offering them a job," you say. "Like a probationary spot on the team."

"Really?" Tracer says. "Do you think that would work? But, I mean, they're --" She hesitates.

"Criminals?" you say. "You do remember--"

Tracer sighs. "I know, I know. I'm the only person on this ship who wasn't a crim before she joined. Silly me, joining an international justice squad through the military." She sticks her tongue out at you. "I was going to say "crazy and dangerous.""

"Think of it this way. The best place to keep an eye on them is right where we can see them. We're not going back on our agreement. We're not letting them run free, where they can loot and bomb to their hearts' desire. Instead we'd be putting them to use for the greater good." You could imprison them, of course, but you have a sneaking suspicion that, no matter where they were locked up, they'd somehow escape. And they'd hold a mean grudge. "You have to admit that both of them would be useful as hell to have around."

"Can't argue with that, after seeing them in action today," Tracer says. "As long as Junkrat doesn't end up blowing us all to kingdom come."

"We'll try to limit his access to sensitive materials. Athena? What do you think?"

"I do not have enough data collected for personality analysis," Athena says. "However, my preliminary estimates indicate that financial compenstation and sufficient adrenaline stimulus should be sufficient to ensure loyalty in the short term."

"So you're saying that you guess if we pay them well and make sure they see some action, they'll stick with us, at least for now."

"Correct, Seeker."

You scratch your head, thinking it over. "Mmm ... I'm inclined to give it a shot."

Tracer says, "I ain't so sure about this, but--" Her brown eyes look up into yours with trust. "If you say it's okay, I'll give it a shot."

"I think we should try it. We'll keep a close eye on them, and I'm sure there'll be a few, let's say, personality conflicts. But I have a feeling it'll work out."

You collapse in the co-pilot's chair, the wear and tear of the day catching up to you. Tracer leans against your back with a weary exhale, her elbows on your shoulders and hands draped over your chest. "Long day, huh?" she says, and props her chin on top of your head. "How'd you make out?"

"I almost got eaten by a smoke monster, choked to death by an amazon, and blown up by a madman," you say. "On the other hand, we got good intel, ruined one of Talon's operations, and flipped some of their assets. And we blew up a fortress full of criminals to boot. So yeah, it was a long day, but I'd say this was a pretty successful mission. You?"

"Pretty good overall," she says. "Just don't ask me to spend that long in a small room with Junkrat ever again. When I get back to base, I'm going to take a nice long bath." You both chuckle.

Soon enough you'll head back down there to invite Junkrat and Roadhog to a probationary team position. But for right now, you just sit back and relax, looking at the view of the open desert in the light of the setting sun, feeling Tracer's closeness and easy companionship.

The Orca leaves the ruin of Junkertown behind as it swoops over the outback, rising into the sky, setting course for the Watchpoint.

Next time on Part 29, we'll be heading back to the Watchpoint for some upgrade votes. But don't get too comfortable, because Talon's plans are in motion, and they'll soon strike again. See you then!
