[Great Deku Tree]

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mtV72jNFejA

Rushing into the interior of the Great Deku Tree, you see that the inside of him is a vast complex. You see staircases spiraling around the massive tree’s interior, leading to upper and lower floors, but parts of them are blocked off by the swirling, dark corruption that you saw outside. It seems even more vile and ominous than it did before, almost pulsating as it seems to try to dig in deeper into the tree’s bark. And to top it all off, there’s still some fog inside the tree.

Sheik moves close by you, scanning the area carefully. “Monsters like those in the forest proper are almost certainly waiting for us, but none seem to be in this room.”

“Could be waiting out there to ambush us.” Aveli comments, stretching her arms.

Lynna gulps, moving closer to you as well. “Th-then we need to stay together, correct?”

“Heh, don’t worry, we’ll stop this and save your fellow villagers in no time!” Horon declares confidently.

Lynna... well, she at least tries to appreciate the sentiment, but you can tell she’s worried.

>A. Hookshot might prove valuable if we ever do end up separated, and we can use this central room as a place to return to should we end up separated
>B. We can’t delay, let us head upwards and try to find the cause of this

“The Hookshot may prove valuable if we ever do end up separated, and we can use this central room as a place to return to should such a thing come to pass.” you tell Lynna. “You still have the Zora’s Crown of Love, don’t you? That should provide you some extra protection, too.”

“Ah, that’s a good point, Termina.” Lynna responds, smiling.

Horon seems to think of something himself. “Oh, Felicia! If we do get separated, you could probably go out and guide one of us back, couldn’t you?”

The fairy appears out of his hat. “Surprising you’re using your head for once, but yes, that’s a good point.”

“Zas could do the same, right?” Aveli asks you.

“Perhaps, but Zas is also a much larger target. Felicia can get by unnoticed with greater ease.” you tell the Gerudo girl. “In any case, we should get a move on. Any objections to trying the lower level first?”

Everyone shakes their heads no. And so, all of you head down the staircase spiraling downward. You see that there are at least two lower floors, possibly more, but the second floor is blocked off by a black mass of pulsing tendrils. There appear to be a few haunting red eyes poking out of the mass, all of them locking on to your group as you approach. The rest of the second floor seems to be separated into a few smaller rooms, one of them locked behind a door.

>A. Try firing at the eyes with the Sword Beam
>B. Head into the unlocked door
>C. Check the upper level first, actually

You draw the Sword of Nayru and approach the eyes cautiously. Motioning for everyone to stay behind you, you thrust your blade forward, firing off a Sword Beam at one of them. A low, beastly grumble seems to be emitted from it as the magic strikes the eye, causing it to sink back into the mass. The four other eyes observing your group all seem to lock on to you specifically... and begin to move slightly within the mass.

Thinking quickly, you deliver four more thrusts, each one striking one of the eyes inside the mass. It’s a close call, but you pull through. The mass starts to shrink away from the staircase, opening up the next level below you. Sheik observes it carefully, noting to you, “It seems that this corruption can be dealt with, but if we have to hunt down the eyes for each section of it like you just did now, this could take some time...”

“I’d imagine that other ones won’t be so easily dealt with, too.” Aveli comments. “You dealt with them quickly, but did you notice that the first one was starting to reform, too?”

“Timed puzzles. Greeeaaaat.” Horon groans out. “Well, at the very least you’ve got a lot of us, we’ll be able to blast them with you.”

“So long as all of us stick together.” Sheik notes. “I doubt this corruption is not at least aware of our presence, and ready to strike back. Much like it did in the Lost Woods.”

“So we stick close together while clearing out more of this malicious mass.” You grip your sword confidently, nodding back at your allies. “We can do this.”

Okay, we're back!

>>2383043
Well, being able to determine a way to deal with the malicious mass plagueing the Great Deku Tree is a step in the right direction, but you’ve only barely started. There’s still the whole first lower floor to go through, however, you did just open up a path to a deeper level. Still can’t risk splitting up, either.

What to do...?

>B. Check the next level

While you could give Horon a chance to decide for you, might be better to have him come to such a decision without your prompting. You instead ask, “Any objections towards investigating the rest of this floor first?”

“I don’t see any reason to. Got plenty to clear out before we’re done.” Horon replies.

“We did come here first. No need to rush through to the next floor without proper preparation.” Sheik states, glancing at the boy in red. Seems she might have been thinking the same thing you were.

“Then let us be on our way.” You move towards the unlocked door, opening it carefully, the wood around it seemingly made of the same material as the rest of the Great Deku Tree, and the door itself seems less like it was carved out and more... grown, in some way. Curious. As you step inside, you spot more of the haunting fog in the room, creeping down from holes in the ceiling.

You notice on the other side of the room a small chest, though it’s elevated above you all, and seems to lack a ladder to it. Might have to Hookshot to it. But before you can even attempt such a thing, a trio of creatures form within the fog.

“More of those Mist Moblins, huh?” Horon asks, readying his gloves. “Bring it on!”

Everyone gets ready to face them as the creatures slowly advance.

“Everyone, together now!” you shout out, drawing your swords. As the shadowy figures of the Moblins approach, you fire a Sword Beam at each of them. The one to the left is knocked away slightly, while the one in the middle takes a heavier blow, though the one to the right of you gets a little too close for comfort for you, as you barely manage to roll out of the way before it lunges at you, countering its lunge with a Sword Beam to its back.

Aveli is able to move out of the way of the left monster as well, the Biggoron Sword’s greater range giving her a clear and powerful strike against the monster, hard enough that its form breaks down and the beast vanishes. Sheik meanwhile easily jumps over the one you injured, a dagger flying through the Mist Moblin’s head, returning it to the fog it came from. Horon works with you as you dodge, blasting the shadowy monster with fire until it too vanishes.

“Heh, seems those chumps were in way over their heads.” Horon declares smugly. “Nice work, ladies!”

“You may have spoken too soon.” Sheik tells the boy, gathering her dagger as three more appear around you all. One near where the chest is, two others from the corners of the entrance.

Well, if Lynna can get to that chest... no, might be too risky on her own. But you could clear a path for her... aha! That’s it! You look over to the young woman. “Head for the chest, I’ll cover you! Everyone else, keep at it!”

“Sure thing, T!” Aveli responds, clashing with one of the advancing Mist Moblins.

“Lynna, now!” Sheik tells her, backing you up as she tosses another dagger the one straight ahead. It damages the monster, but not enough to stop it. You rush forward with Lynna at your side, recalling what Linkle taught you and using your Royal sword to knock away its spear, then firing another Sword Beam into its chest with your Sword of Nayru.

The monster stumbles back, leaving Lynna a chance to use her Hookshot and get up to the chest. You nod confidently at her, but the momentary lapse in focus is just enough for the monster to get back up and try to rush you again. You awkwardly dodge out of the way, nearly tripping over your own feet as you do, but even as you stumble away from the Moblin, you give one more thrust with your sword, the beam hitting true and felling the creature for good.

“Termina, are you okay?” Lynna asks you, poking her head out and down at you all.

“I’m fine, just please, hurry!” you shout back to her. Well, you almost looked cool for a moment there, Princess. At least you didn’t faceplant or something.

Horon looks back at you and chuckles. “Heh, what’s wrong, Termina? Don’t tell me you’re having trouble with these-AGHK!” The Moblin he was trying to take on manages to smack him in the side of his head, spear-point missing him, but the hit is hard enough to hurt. “YOU JACKASS!” Horon finally draws his own sword, regaining his composure and delivering a powerful jump-slash, taking the monster down.

Aveli giggles slightly. “Pride cometh before the fall, as grandma used to say.”

“H-hush...” Horon mumbles out, rubbing the side of his head.

“Not a major wound or anything, but do try to focus better on combat.” the Gerudo girl tells him cheekily.

“Ah! Everyone!” Lynna’s voice calls out to you all. “It’s a Key!”

Looking up, you see that it’s not just any key. A rather ornate one, decorated and slightly menacing-looking. Yep. A [Boss Key]. Lynna carefully attempts to make her way down, you helping her so you don’t have a repeat of your initial meeting.

Aveli lifts up her helmet to look at the key. “Huh, guess that’s what those things were guarding... any idea where it may lead?”

“I would suspect the source of the Great Deku Tree’s troubles is close to where we saw the corruption outside, so most likely it is above us.” Sheik speculates.

“There was some of it leading below, though.” Lynna notes, looking at you.

“Well, in any case, we should keep an eye out for the door that this goes to.” Horon states with affirmation. “So, above, or below next...”

“Horon, I concurr with Sheik. I think we should head below, then work our way back up.” you tell the boy.

He nods. “A sensible idea. Nice thinking.”

“Let us be off then.” Sheik states.

All of you begin moving out of the room, you taking notice of the locked door one more time before you leave. Hmm... if there was a Boss Key in the room adjacent to it, perhaps there is something else of greater importance in the one next to it. Either way, you head down deeper into the Great Deku Tree. The lower level looks to also be the lowest level, as not only are there no more stairways, it’s also darker, larger, and more varied. You notice that there’s even a small, flowing stream inside it, strangely enough. Well, a tree this large WOULD need a decent source of water...

More notably, there is far more of the black, shadowy mass around the place, a couple dozen eyes scattered around all of it. You also notice four doors, north, south, east, and west, but the north and east ones are covered by the malicious, slimy corruption. A few Deku Babas around too... but something seems off with them. As you all exit the stairway, you spot one of them sprout out from the ground... and in the same plant, another “head” sprouts out. And then a third... and a fourth... and finally a fifth, smaller than the rest. Almost like the monster is forming... some kind of hand?

...Oh no.

All five of the heads hiss and snap at your group. It doesn’t seem like the monster can move, but it still has quite a long reach. You might be able to make it past without any of the heads catching any of you, but it’s fairly risky. And given the shape it’s taken... well, might be best to deal with it first.

Horon at least seems to think that’s a good idea. “So we’re killing it with fire, right? No objections to that?”

“Well, we have two things that you could count as fire, do we not?” you ask Horon, grinning and pulling out a bomb. “Here’s one of them!”

Tossing the bomb at the monster, you’re surprised as one of the heads actually manages to try to bat it away. You time it right so that the blast still damages the monster, but batting it away meant you got caught in the blast radius. You’re knocked away, taking some damage from the explosion.

[Hearts: 8/9]
[Bombs: 9/10]

Horon resists the urge to laugh at you and instead focuses on the monster ahead of you all. One of its heads are gone, but the others seem very irritated now. Aveli and Sheik go after it together, the two of them stunning a pair of the remaining heads. Horon raises his hand and flings a jolt of fire at the monster with his gloves, singing the smaller head. But just as the blast connects, the remaining one manages to get him, biting at the boy and knocking him down too.

As Lynna helps the two of you up, you focusing harder on the fight in front of you this time, you also raise your hand, the arcane magic building up and bringing forth a sphere of fire. “And now for the other, Din’s Fire!” You blast forth an orb of flame and ignite it when it reaches the monster, the large fireball consuming the remaining, stunned heads. The Deku Baba hand creature slowly burns away, hissing out its death throes. It leaves behind a Red Rupee, though, so that’s something.

[Magic: 4/5]

Horon glances at you apologetically, dusting himself off, while Sheik and Aveli head back to you, the two of them making sure the monster is indeed dead. “Well, seems like these things have some nasty surprises in store for us.” the Gerudo girl comments, handing the spoils over to you.

[Rupees: 260/500]

“The other two do not seem to have reacted to our fight.” Sheik notes. “Or perhaps there was only the one?”

Aveli shakes her head. “Doubtful. There’s clearly something lurking in them.”

“If there are more of those things in here, we should deal with them first before heading onward.” you tell everyone. “Horon, are you sure you’re okay?”

“Yeah yeah.” He waves his hand dismissively at you. “I’ll be fine.”

Lynna walks over to him, looking him over. She frowns, checking on his head. “...Maybe not. Here, stand still for a moment.”

“Eh? What’re you-”

Lynna places her hands on Horon, and a soft glow seems to emerge from them. “Okay, like before... Nayru’s... Blessing.”

The damage on the young boy seems to disappear, to the amazement of you, Sheik, and Aveli. “...Y-you can use magic too?” the Gerudo girl asks.

“Ever since Termina and I got through with the Temple of Nayru. I’m... not particularly skilled, but I’ve been able to patch people up if they have any minor injuries.” she replies shyly. “S-sorry for not bringing this up sooner...”

“Ah, yes, you did recieve a blessing from the Great Fairy of Nayru too, much like Horon and I recieved one from the Great Fairy of Din.” you comment. Horon’s face seems to redden slightly as he recalls the event, Felicia apparently taking notice and sighing at him. Well... you couldn’t exactly blame him, given what she was like. “Though your magic does not seem to match mine...”

“Well, either way, I feel fit as ever! Thanks, Lynna!” Horon tells her cheerfully, making sure his gloves are on tight.

As you all move closer, crossing the stream bisecting the floor, you see both monsters start to sprout up. The two of them once again seem to resemble “hands” with the Deku Babas as the “fingers” once more. Each one of the heads hisses and snaps at your group.

You prepare yourself for another couple blasts of Din’s Fire, Aveli dashing through them to get their attention, slashing at them with the Biggoron’s Sword. Sheik follows, the Sword of Farore helping her finish off some of the ones Aveli’s blade did the most damage to. Horon attempts to jump in after, slashing away with the Sword of Din, and even felling the smaller two “thumb” Deku Babas. He turns back at you and grins, puffing his chest up and flashing a thumb’s up... before one of the heads snaps at him, knocking him away.

Still, with the monsters sufficiently damaged, you manage to thrust forth one sphere of flame with Din’s Fire, igniting it right after the monster snaps at Horon, with the boy out of harm’s way, and even catch the other as it attempted to do the same thing. You fling another blast at the monsters, finally burning them down.

[Magic: 2/5]

Aveli gets Horon up again, Felicia grumbling over the boy being overconfident again, not paying close enough attention to the monsters he’s facing. Well, at the very least, the beasts have been slain. Lynna approaches you, rubbing the back of her neck. “I... do hope he’s not going to keep getting himself hurt like that.”

“He has... been through worse.” you sigh out. “I do worry, though. How about you, that healing magic may come in handy.”

“I’ve had to stock up on some potions before this. I’m... not exactly skilled, but at the very least, I can help you guys if this keeps happening.” she replies bashfully.

You nod. “It just might. This corruption has created quite a few dangerous foes. Glad to have you with us, Lynna.”

With the monsters dealt with, there still remains the path you need to take. Doesn’t look like the corruption has vanished from the other two doors, but the north and east ones are still open. Horon rubs his head, trying to move past his little incident. “Well, gut’s telling me to try north. Anyone opposed?”

Aveli shrugs. “Gotta head that way some time.”

Sheik looks over at you and Lynna. “Termina?”

He grins happily, marching forward, the rest of you following him. Entering into a somewhat wide but exceptionally long room, you all spot even longer, thick roots all around it, serving partially as ceiling and floor. And on those roots... you spot more of the malicious mass, and several eyes upon it all looking down at you. In addition, a deep fog prevents you from seeing the end of the room.

“...Well that’s ominous.” Horon comments.

“It does seem like this would be the perfect place to try and ambush any would-be adventurers.” Aveli adds, then looking at you all with a cocky smirk. “Thankfully, ‘would-be’ doesn’t really describe most of us, does it?”

Lynna laughs nervously. You look down the room once more. Aveli does have a point, you’ll need to be careful going forward.

“Felicia, can you scout ahead of us a bit while we move through this?” you request of the little red fairy.

She floats up next to Horon, hovering nervously around him. “I... I guess...”

“Aha, smart thinking, Termina! Lead the way, Felicia!” Horon tells the fairy encouragingly.

She seems to sigh quietly as she flies ahead of you all, Horon behind her. You move through the room cautiously, watching ahead of you carefully. You swear you spot large... blobs of something move through the fog. Felicia stops for a moment... there’s the sound of something... well, you’re not quite sure how to describe it. Almost a low, windy howl, but not quite that...

Felicia floats up above you, but seems confused. But at the same time, you start to see the fog somehow get... thicker near you. Felicia spots it too, and in a panic, shouts out, “RUN!”

“Aveli, Belt of Wind!” you shout out to the Gerudo girl.

“On it, T!” she responds, scooping Horon up off his feet, Felicia grabbing on to him, as a shadow seems to form in the fog near you all. A bizarre, foggy hand takes form and makes an attempt to grab at her, but Aveli is simply too quick for it to catch. Even with the Belt of Winds helping her speed, she moves with surprising grace as the hand keeps attempting to grab at her.

You take Lynna by the hand. “Come on! We need to go!” You focus your magic, declaring out, “Farore’s Wind!” right as another shadowy hand attempts to grab the two of you, just barely scraping by. You catch up to Aveli and Horon, but the frantic rush away leaves you with fairly poor footing when you and Lynna reappear. You stumble, falling to the ground, Lynna falling on top of you.

Ow.

Sheik arrives after the two of you reappear, successfully dodging the monsters herself, though she... doesn’t quite seem to approve. Horon’s face goes a little red, Lynna quickly trying to stand up. “Sorry! Sorry! Agh, I should have paid closer attention...”

“It... it is my fault. I did not quite stick that landing as well as I should have.” you mumble out in a slight groan. The young woman stands up, offering her hand to you to help you up. Dusting off your poncho, you notice that you’ve managed to make it to the other side of the room, at the very least.

“A-ahem... so, next room.” Horon comments, opening up the door.

All of you immediately notice a chest on top of a very tall pillar, illuminated by a ray of light piercing through the roots above... and all across the walls, the dark, oozing corruption, with several eyes watching you. There does se

“Lynna, you think you can head up to that chest with your Hookshot as well?” you ask.

“Hmm... might be a little tricky, but let’s try it.” She points the Hookshot up at it, eyeing the chest carefully. “Hmm... length of the Hookshot might not be enough to reach it from here... but maybe...” She takes a few steps forward. “Aha!”

The spring-loaded chain of the hookshot bolts forth, carrying Lynna upwards. Horon watches curiously for a moment, before quickly turning his face away, forcing a cough. “S-so, this stuff seems like it’s hitting the Great Deku Tree pretty seriously. There’s even more of it down here than I thought there’d be.”

“Yeah, definitely going to need to deal with it all soon.” Aveli agrees, shouldering her sword.

You keep your attention on Lynna as she reaches the chest, opening it up...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5VRr9NG7RE0

“Oh! It’s... a boomerang?” Lynna’s voice declares in surprise. She pulls out a decorated, strange-looking boomerang, almost resembling a pair of bird wings.

“Oh!” Felicia’s voice calls out. “The [Gale Boomerang]!”

“Gale, huh?” Horon looks up at it. “What can it do?”

She floats around happily. “It’s a special Boomerang that’s been imbuned with the power of one of us Fairies, more specifically, the Great Fairy of Wind.”

“There’s... a Great Fairy inside this thing?” Lynna asks in surprise. “But... er... how...?”

Felicia flies a little closer to her. “More specifically, her magic. Last I heard she gave it to the previous Hero to use, and in the right hands, it possessed immense power!”

“Well well, our Hero’s weapon has been recovered. Let’s get out of here while-” Horon looks back at the door you all came in from. It’s been sealed shut, covered with the malicious ooze. “-I had to say something, didn’t I?”

Ominous sounds come from the mass, gurgling, bubbling sounds. There’s something in here... something that’s tried to lure you into a trap. Agh, you’re going to have a fight on your hands!

You spot out of the corner of your eye a chunk of the vile mass split off from the rest. A massive chunk, wide and pulsing. The blob starts to change shape, a couple eyes forming on a “head” area of sorts. Wait... it’s just like the thing that tried to take control of the fake Master Sword. It’s... an oversized, dark Chuchu?

Several smaller eyes seem to pop in and out in a sort of pattern, as the monster moves towards you all. Horon, Aveli, and Sheik all stand with you, Lynna still on top of the pillar. “Looks like we’re not getting out of here until that thing’s dealt with.” the Gerudo girl comments. “So let’s smash ‘em!”

“Lynna, aim for the eyes with the Gale Boomerang!” you shout out to the woman.

The oversized Chuchu lunges at you all, you dodging and rolling out of the way as it crashes against the ground. Aveli again scoops Horon up and moves out of the monster’s path thanks to the Belt of Winds. Sheik effortlessly flips away, tossing a dagger at one of the monster’s eyes.

Lynna steadies herself, though she seems to hear something before she tosses her new weapon. As the monster tries to get back up, five eyes in total form around the body. You prepare to defend yourself... when you catch a glow above you. In Lynna’s hand, the Gale Boomerang seems to gather up a brilliant light, swirling winds flowing around her. With a fierce shout, she flings the boomerang towards the giant, dark Chuchu... and strikes each of the five eyes in unison, with each strike giving a little flash of light, as if it made a small explosion, fierce, flowing winds spiraling away from the boomerang as it flies.

The monster seems to shriek and jiggle in pain, flattening out once more and slowly making its way towards the pillar Lynna is standing on right as the Gale Boomerang returns to her.

“Lynna, jump down, I will catch you!” you shout out.

The woman looks to you nervously, but she’s running out of options. She hesitates, but as soon as the giant Chuchu is about to engulf the pillar, she leaps off it, nearly stumbling as the mass tries to grab at her. But in spite of her awkward jump attempt, you’re able to not have a repeat of your initial meeting. You set her down, Lynna standing by you as Aveli and Horon together blast and slash at the monster, Horon catching one of its eyes as Aveli strikes the pillar it was climbing, knocking it down with the monster.

A loud crash echoes through the area, the giant Chuchu slithering back away, towards the wall it came out of. Sheik chases after it, trying to block its escape, but nearly gets attacked in return. Only thanks to some skillful dodging does she manage to avoid any harm, and while the monster is still trying to slither away, it’s been diverted for just a bit.

“Lynna, hit the eyes on the wall over there! Where the monster is trying to escape to!” you tell the girl.

“Right, Termina!” she responds, bringing her arm back. Winds surround her, her dress fluttering as the Gale Boomerang seems to glow once more, charging its power. “Hrraaaahhh!”

It flies through the air, not only smacking into the wall and somehow blasting a chunk of it away as the winds and magic within the boomerang blast at the eyes, but on the return to Lynna it even manages to strike some of the eyes on the Chuchu monster. She catches the Boomerang, the monster going back to try and attack you once more. But you’re ready for it, and bringing out your Crossbow you fire a pair of bolts at the creature. It shrieks out in pain again, but your bolts hit true, and the monster seems to collapse.

[Bolts: 28/30]

“Oh no you don’t!” Horon shouts out, flinging a fireball at the creature, sitting on the shoulders of the little Iron Knuckle as she keeps him out of harm’s way. The monster shrieks and jiggles again as it strikes another of its eyes.

Still, it seems to target you, and lunges forward. Sheik tosses a dagger at the closest eye, but while it connects, it also manages to smack her aside. You guard Lynna, raising your shield as the monster attempts to smack its face down at you. The guard holds, but even blocking you get shoved aside, just like Sheik.

[Hearts: 7/9]

But through all your effort, the creature finally starts to show some genuine exhaustion. It’s on its last legs!

“Everyone, now!” you yell out, drawing both your swords. Lynna flings the Gale Boomerang at the monster one last time, stunning it as five more of the eyes the pop up are blasted apart. Aveli keeps carrying Horon around, the boy flinging one last fireball at the monster, causing it to sink back into a blob on the floor. Sheik slashes at the monster with her sword, getting smacked in the face as it tries to flee, but the Sheikah girl keeps up the pressure, cornering it.

As the boomerang returns to Lynna, you take a leap, jumping up and getting a little higher as you jump into the wind spiraling out of the Gale Boomerang, leading to you spinning in the air slightly. You bring both your swords down on the monster’s final eye, piercing through it hard enough that your blades puncture into the ground beneath you.

The giant Chuchu has finally been felled. Blobs of its body break apart into smaller pieces, which then dissolve into mist. The rest of the malicious ooze around the room starts to disappear as well. You did it, finally. Ah, and just your luck, seems everyone will be able to replenish their magic and health from what’s left behind.

You still take a moment to sit down, exhaling deeply in relief. “It’s over...”

“That was... that was amazing, Termina!” Lynna declares, running over to you. Aveli lets Horon down off her shoulders, the boy thanking her and the two of them high-fiving. Sheik takes a bit to recover herself before heading to you as well.

“A few close calls, but we have managed to see this through.” the Sheikah girl comments. “It seems the monsters here are definitely not easy foes, though.”

“Indeed... but we’ve pulled through.” you reply confidently. “While we can enjoy this small victory for now, our work here is not done yet. There is still more we need to clear out of the Great Deku Tree, but I believe we have shown we can accomplish this, together.” You smile as you look around at your allies. Together, you all truly can work to save Hyrule.
