Information pastebin: https://pastebin.com/vSXCNHAQ

You are Crew Boss Levi, a mechanic in charge of repairs to Alex's mech. After finally reuniting with Alex, you see he is, in fact, still an idiot. You and your mech ended up somewhere other than outside the backwater base on a polluted world you called home.

(You are also Captain Alex, Proxima Aquarii Federation, 4th Fringe Machine Infantry. When heading to a routine exercise, you were pulled to this world.)

Now you're stuck in a world that's verdant, green, and full of life, where people use 'magic' and gods rule. Naturally, you should be cautious.

You are a mechanic, a skilled civilian who is capable of repairing and piloting mechs to even creating weapons. You pilot the Hummingbird, a swift VTOL with a mech form based around sniping other mechs.

You have recently been summoned by your idiotic ace pilot, who has managed to make themselves into a hivemind... With one part that is a small girl. You have recently recovered and secured the colony of Port Haller. Alex's child body has been kidnapped, you have no idea where it is, you are obtaining the blessing of the trickster god.

Ravais sighs, "Well, you lucked out today, darling, got nothing for you, but feel free to take a blessing."

>Joker's hand: You can transmogrify items into others briefly. Good for tricking people with false cash or gambling with cards.
>Conman's Tongue: All lies get a +40 to their persuasion roll. Great for talking yourself out of trouble, or convincing people something.
>Spy's Shroud: All disguises you perform have much less chance of being seen through, and will never be poor quality, even if improvised.

Ravais smiles, "Choose wisely, doll."

As a mechanic, all of these are useful to you. Avoiding combat is a priority for a machinist.

It may really be handy for a mechanic. Especially if one can transmorgify item into something of practical use that is vital for mechanic.

You choose Spy's shroud, feeling... not much different as a shadowy mist seeps into you.

"A good pick, to be sure, probably would do you better without that outfit, but..." The god shrugs as the world fades back in. You are alone at the 'Meran' shrine.

Your comms crackle from Alex, "I can't seem to get myself to wake up... uh, the capital is up river the other way, I have two mercenaries there, the blackmaul brigands... Or you could check in with the elves again. I'm not sure what exactly to do, though..."

You sigh, a variety of options are before you.

>what do you do?
>>
>>2371332
Before we go anywhere, can we do a brief check around where the spatial rift was that alex got pulled in? We could find something of a clue, and no loss in not finding anything.
>>
>>2371370
May as well.
>>
>>2371332
Lets see those two mercs he talks about :V
>>
>>2371370
>>2371408>>2371370

Can we please take a look at those two brigands that alex keeps mentioning? Having a few more hands will be useful.
>>
>>2371408
>>2371370
You headed to the room with the rift once more to look for clues. Looking through the room, you managed to locate Alex's pistol. A few other things are footprints without treads, a chloroform-soaked cloth that is drying out, and a missing person poster, depicting a blackhaired young girl and to contact a certain lord. It's noted that there is a warning if the girl is injured in any way that the utmost extent of the law will be levied forth against the cause.

...You aren't familiar with Lord Arteth, but you suspect if old nobility terms apply, he's goitta be pretty powerful. Perhaps that girl under the knowledge goddess knows?

>what do you do?
>>
>>2372200
You could consider the idea to look for information on this particular lord, what the notice was for... Or perhaps you could pursue the mercenaries Alex mentioned while you have room for two people in your vehicle.

There is also the matter of the elves. You doubt it would take them much longer to complete the shrine, and the sooner they do that, the sooner you can remove your helmet.

Alternatively, you could do none of these things and look around the place, looking for rumors, although you doubt Alex would appreciate such a lack of concern for his smaller body.

Regardless, you could do anything at this point...

>What do you do?
>>
>>2372539
We should visit the elves and check the shrine/grab the blessing.
It definitely seems like loli Alex is... relatively safe currently.
>>
>>2372554
Maybe we can have loli alex be a princess. I vote this,
>>
>>2372539
Alex is hardly in a proper state to command us. I mean, she is nervous and she is overwhelmed by the change (otherwise we can just say that she is), so it only be good of us to make the right decision even if she doesn't like it. For everyone's sake, of course.
We should look around and gather rumors, giving the elves the time they need.
>>
>>2372724
....Can we also pick up or at least visit those mercs o3o.
>>
>>2372733
We can visit everyone we find interesting. Though, Alex hardly will be as excited as she should be.
>>
>>2372200
>>2372539
I guess a mix of
>dont forget to pick up the gun, and pocket the wanted poster
>nose around for rumours and point of interest in the near vicinity, especially infor regarding this particular lord
And
>go find those mercs, they might be useful in providing brute force and/or local intel
Would do okay I think.
If we have some way to take pictures or record, maybe we could snap a shot of those footprints as well.

You gather the pistol and poster. No sense leaving a Federation gun in an unknown area. You decide to check the area, listening for rumors. You catch a few on some guy named Daichi who is incredibly powerful nearby, something about the royal court of the empress having a ball... The next year for children to start training in the magic academy...

Finally you hear something from the guards. You move in to listen, looking away from them.

"-apparently they found her." One guard states.
"Bah, another false claim I bet. A nobleman's brat missing for a week? I bet she's dead by now."
"No, no, I swear, they had a magician and everything, it's her."
"But they also found evidence of a witch's curse."
"Aye, but it's not her form. They think the witch muddled the girl's head."
"Until they they tell us to take down the posters, I'll hold off on thinking that."

You pause, pulling out your poster, "Excuse me, you won't happen to be talking about this one, right?"

"Shit, another one. Listen..." The guard looks you over, "foreigner, someone already found Lord Arteth's missing girl. You are out of luck."
"Allegedly." The other adds.
"By brat, do you mean..."

"Daughter. Miriam Arteth. You think a lord would put out a missing person poster for a servant girl or concubine?"

"I see, and where is Arteth?"
"Aldenia. Garden city where all those uptight high-blood asshats live. Must be nice, living in that gilded bubble of theirs."
All information is good here, "Gilded bubble?"
"Aye, the damn city has an old magic barrier around it, built on ancient ruins or some such. Only those invited can get in. It's where they have all the villas and the magic academy for the nobles, so they can avoid looking at the rabble for most of their cushy lives." The guard spits, "bastards living large while we deal with dragons and raiders with a fucking flying city."

"I'm sorry? Flying city?"

"Mera's tits, have you not heard of it? A flying city built by some enlightened assholes. Then an army of bandits attacked it and took the thing over. Now there's a city full of bandits in the sky, just pillaging whatever they feel!"

Well, that's nice...
"Ahem, well, thank you for the information... which way to the capital?"
"Oh, upriver, can't miss it. You a pilgrim?"
"Yeah, I'm a pilgrim, just visiting temples." You respond, glad to have an excuse. They nod and wave, seeing you off.

You return to the Hummingbird. It seems Alex was mistaken for the daughter of Arteth, and now in some sort of inaccessible city for the elite... Fantastic. You can only hope he doesn't get found out.

You take off, headed for the capital.

You land outside the capitals, strolling into the city. It's quite loud and bustling, but eventually you ask your way around. After getting some bearings, you ask for... 'the Blackmaul guys.'

A few people know what you mean. Less are receptive. Finally, one man says, "They came into money and got out of the business of banditry. if you've a score to settle, they frequent a tavern on the east end of the city."

Thanking him, you make your way to this tavern. You find a particular muscular man with one eye, and an elf who fits the description of 'thug' more than forest folk.

They look at you, the only person entering at this hour.

"Who are you?"
"I'm with Alex." You reply, "I was sent to pick you up."
"Alex, hrm? how do you describe him?"
"Cocky, black hair, short beard, shiny helmet... obssessed with increasing his firepower."
They look at each other, "Yeah, sounds bout right. What's the job?"
"We've got a town of sorts, setting it up, needing soldiers and the like... in the unknown lands." You respond. You get a couple toothy grins.
"Sounds like our kinda gig then. We were bored anyhow." You see them toss coins to the counter before getting up, "Lead the way."

>The Blackmaul Brigands have returned to the party.

With two thugs at your back, you stroll out of the tavern. The sky is growing dark. You almost bump into a hunched old woman, but you stop short.

"Oh, sorry, almost ran into you there." You take a step back. The woman stares through stringy hair as a grin pulls wide over her teeth. You feel a chill up your back.

"What a polite lady... Why, I think I might just give you a gift for your apology. You didn't even do anything, heeheehee..."
You get the feeling that this might not be such a good gift...
"No backing out of it dearie... it involves that friend of yours... Alex. I bet he's in quite the pickle right now, heeheehee..."
"...what gift?" You cautiously ask.
"Well, I have one for you, or one for your friend... Choose wisely, heheh..."
>Noble's locket - Miriam's keepsake. It will keep Alex from being found out as an impostor. It will appear near her when she awakens.
>Knight's brooch - A Meran Knight's symbol, allowing access to areas of high security... of course, some side effects might occur... heehee...

An ominous choice. The last 'side effect' you heard of was Alex being trapped in that child's body.

"Ah, yes, Little Miriam's locket. It was the payment she gave me for her request, you know, be grateful. Eheeheehee!" With that, the locket vanished in a flash of purple light. "You know, I was hoping you'd bump into me. I had a wonderful little gift in mind, but..." She shrugs, vanishing into thin air. It occurs to you your thugs are frozen in place, as if petrified. They come out of their frozen state shortly.

Shivering, you decide lingering in town might be a terrible idea.

Acarit's shrine might be built by now. It might be possible to get that blessing then. This is a personal priority for you.

You could also deliver the mercs to Port Haller, allowing them to train up or take temporary base roles.

Then there is the matter of Alex. You might want to look into the garden city of Aldenia.

Or you could do something else entirely, really, it's up to you.

You lead your mercenaries to the Hummingbird, briefly helping them get into the vehicle. Shortly after, you take off. The mercenaries are silent as you shoot past. Forests give way to mountains, then to sandy hot beaches. The shallow sea stretches forth. You hear the bandana'd merc take a sharp breath.

You near the island, landing in the confines of your colony. Alex rushes up to you, "Why aren't you looking for my body?!"
"Because "I have little in the way of information, calm down, here are your mercenaries."
Alex glances around impatiently, "Can I go with you?"
"No, these are your mercenaries, get them up to speed." You respond, rolling your eyes.
"But-" The protest is cut off as your cockpit closes.
"I'm getting that nature god blessing first." You wave, your aircraft kicking off the sandy ground.

You shoot through the air, back to the forests... The elven city. Upon landing the elven spider mech approaches.

"Relax, I came back to see if the shrine was repaired."
"It is... We've arranged a guard for your return."
A guard for what, you could incinerate their mechs with ease...
"Sure..." You respond. The mech leads you to an escort, which guides you. After an hour or so you reach a pristine clearing with a small island and a stone shrine in the center.

The world fades to white...

You meet... a completely stoned long-haired elf with a mushroom cap on her head, smoking a big fat joint. Mercifully it appears this spiritual realm doesn't have a sense of smell, because you can't detect a whiff of this weed.

The woman gives a sleepy smile, "Heeeey, girl. Howya doin. Great time to come, I just had my snacks, so... what can I do for ya?"

You pause, this is the nature goddess? she seem so high it's doubtful she can even function yight now.
"A blessing, actually..."

"Oh, right, right, yeah. Good stuff, okay..." She pauses, "Oh, my girl Mirna moved out... Bummer. Alright, guess it's just me and Mera... Your pick."

>Mera offers Cleansing of darkness. You will be able to use purifying spells. Picking this will lock out your ability to use any dark magic in the future. Kinda lame if you ask me, cause, like, that stuff is a quarter of all magic, ya know? Oh, and I will give you a curse or something.

Deciding the best course of action is to get a look around, you use slight movements of hur head and eyes...

By the door is a maid. She seems to have her eyes closed. There is nobody else in the room. The room itself appears to be lavishly furnished, with paneling along the walls. the walls themselves appear to be sanded, painted wood, with a golden shimmer of ornate paterns in the light. sunlight streams in through a massive window on one side. A closet and a door leading into a... small pool? on the other. A dollhouse lies on the windowed side, along with a tray next to the bed. There is a teapot, still steaming, a plate with a single cookie, and a teacup... Between this and the pillow your head rests on is a locket.

The bed itself appears to be a four-poster bed, carved out of... mahogany? The type of materials rich sentimentalists pay greatly for when a simple steel and plastic frame will do the job.

Also, you do not appear to be wearing your piloting suit anymore... or any undergarments. It feels like you are wearing some sort of light dress or robe under the sheets.

You have not alerted the maid with your cautious movements.

>You have gained the perk: Miriam's Memory - you have obtained all the memories of the previous owner of the locket, including muscle memory.
What happens next is a brief flash as your mind is filled with memories and thoughts. Your thoughts? No, someone else's.

Your, er, her name was Miriam Arteth. She was the daughter of a powerful lord and lived in this city, in this room. A sheltered and coddled life under the bubble that kept everything terrible out. But she was one who loved to read and play, and one thing she was particularly enamored with was the idea of adventure. It was what she played with other noble children, it was what she craved, the romanticized stories driving her imagination.

But she wasn't allowed to leave the bubble until after she graduated the magic academy. A task she was going to start on soon...

Then she begged her father to take her with him to the capital, the only place she might be able to go outside the bubble. And for once, he conceded. With an escort of bodyguards, she was able to wander the upper tier of the city...

Then she'd encountered Grella. The guards were frozen as they spoke. The old woman offered her a wish, and of course, Miriam asked to go on an adventure in payment for her precious locket.

The last thing before these memories go dark is Grella's words, "well, I'm sure any adventurer wouldn't pass on a cheap new sword... heheheh..."

After that rush, you find yourself standing in the room, locket around your neck. This room is yo- Miriam's room. The tray with the teapot containing one of her favorite teas and cookies.

You know understand why you were mistaken for her... aside from your hair being uncared for, you look exactly like Miriam. No doubt this was what that witch was aiming for in the first place. Her encounter with Miriam must have been recent. The weather in those memories was nearly the same... Maybe a bit colder.

Regardless, you now know this location, Arteth Manor. The maid has locked you into the room to get Lord Arteth... Miriam's father.

Shit.
>Explain in simple terms why his daughter is most likely dead, and the person he is speaking to is made from a witches curse. He is currently speaking to a forcefully shapeshifted person that is part of a hivemind. We can offer a description of the witch that accosted an associate of ours and sent us her memories. If it will smooth things over then we can offer to try and bring the witch to him. But warn about the patron of the witch being extremely powerful, and has likely taken his daughter for something.

I don't really know about this anon, He may react negatively to the information, it would maybe be better to get a judge of his character before we go and blab everything to him, and if we say we are cursed, they may connect the dots and find we are alex down the line, which wouldn't be the best idea within one of mera's cities.

My vote is more to bide our time, until levi can spring us from here, or we can escape ourselves.

This.

It would be worse to hide it from him, I agree on checking his mental state though. However it doesn't really mater as no one is actually sure who the thief is, and Mira doesn't know about the secrect identity still. We just say we are someone else, or some random thug from the sewers if necessary.
>>
>>2387075
I think it might be a very bad idea to do this.

We should bide our time.

Tell our "Dad" that we were kidnapped by Grella and that she took half of us somewhere, and tied the other half to "Alex".

Beg him to keep it a secret because Mera is trying to kill Alex, and your lives have been linked so if one of you dies the other does too. You don't want to be a `necessary sacrifice`.

You quickly check to see what information you can glean from Miriam's memories...

>You learned Small Fireball - an offensive magic spell taught to children with magical aptitude.
>You learned Defensive Barrier - a magical defense spell that can withstand weak attacks
>you learned Fairy Light - a magical light source that floats in the air, commonly known by young mages.
>You learned Arteth Sigil, a spell only usable by those containing the Arteth bloodline, to show heiritage. if used by another member of the Arteth line, theirs will automatically activate. Useless without family bloodline.
>You learned Draust Sigil, only usable by descendants of the Draust bloodline. Exact same function as Arteth sigil.

You learn a few other things. Miriam, for instance, has interacted with the empress' daughter, as well as several families containing royal knights... This family has a royal knight as well... Actually, it seems the Arteths are quite important.

You hear footsteps and voices. One you recognize as moth- Lady Alicia Arteth, and another as fath- Lord Theodor Arteth... Along with the maids, Valentina, Cait, and Darcy.

"-it's possible it's not her too!" One maid protests.
"Doubtful. I was told she'd be found in that town." Lord Arteth responds.
"And you believe a witch?" A different maid asks.
"The hunters said the magical flow in her matched Miriam. Do you have any idea how rare that is?"
"But the priestess detected a witch's curse." the first maid added.
"Around her head. If her mind is gone, we can simply take her to the temple and erase her mind. We can start over from there..." Lord Arteth snaps back.
"Dear, the academy, though, she's to start within a month! if we erase her mind it'll take time to get her back to that point..." Lady Arteth states, raising her concerns... your concerns adding to it.
"I said I would do anything to get her back. I consorted with witches, bribed guards, hired arcane hunters... Now I have someone who fits her to the letter and now you raise doubts?!" The door bursts open, "I will prove to you she is Miriam!"

You are caught, standing in the room with the door filled with maids and two well-dressed people that the new memories and thoughts recognize as parents.

Lord Arteth casts the Arteth Sigil spell, causing a crest to flash in the air before him.

...and then one flashes right before you, much to your surprise.

"See? It is Miriam!" The lord responds to the women.
"Or it's a bastard child, Miriam has the blood of TWO houses!" With that, Lady Alicia casts Draust Sigil.

And then one appears before you briefly as well.

"Oh goddess, it is Miriam!" Alicia cries.

...You look at the locket briefly. If you have the bloodlines needed to cast those sigil spells... that means this body no longer contains Alex's DNA...

It's a good thing your other body is entirely unaffected by all this, right?

Be silent and look confused, like any other normal kid would be if they were suddenly roused from their sleep. Nope, nothing suspicious going on here.

>"Around her head. If her mind is gone, we can simply take her to the temple and erase her mind. We can start over from there..." Lord Arteth snaps back.
That would be disconcerting even if we were the real Miriam. Playing the fuck along for now is probably for the best bet even if it could cost us sanity.
Use Alex Grande to inform Levi about the last few minutes of development.

You decide to stare in confusion at the spectacle. The two nobles looking to each other.

"Well, she is our daughter then, but what of her mind?" Lady Alicia (mom) asks.

Lord Theodor looks you over, "Well, she looks confused..."

It's probably best to keep silent in this event.

"Very well, I'll test her, dear." He nods at you, "Miriam, I want you to cast your favorite spell."

Well shit, looking back at the spells she had, she used all of them quite a bit... though the first thing that comes to mind is 'a sparkly spell.' Something fun and cheerful.

your options
- Small Fireball
- Defensive Barrier
- Fairy light
- Enchanted Shield
- Purification Bolt
- Cure Ailment
- Corruption
- Choking Mist

Of these, fireball, purification bolt, and fairy light fit the description of 'sparkly.'

Out of the three we only learned fairy light and fireball from her memories. Fairy light sounds like the best option

You cast Fairy Light. A small glowing, sparkling ball appears in the air, bobbing towards the noble couple. You can see tears start to well in the eyes of Lady Alicia.

The next instant, you are caught in an inescapable grip, your face smothered by something soft.

"Oh sweetie, I'm so sorry for doubting... It's okay now, you're home, your safe... Mommy's here." Lady Alicia has you in a tight embrace. Lord Theodor is still keeping slight distance.

"You are braver than I, dear. The priest will be here shortly to determine if she is still in the witch's thrall." He sighs, "As much as I would love to embrace her, the risks are too great. She could simply be under influence... It's happened before."

"But I'm fine. Oh, sweetie, it's so wonderful to have you home." Part of you (obviously Miriam) wants to just relax into this embrace while the lady (mom) strokes your hair. Another part wants to get out of her grip... But you are pretending to be Miriam, so relax it is.

>-1 san

When she finally releases you, Lord Theodor has left. Alicia takes a few steps back before directing a maid at you, "The priest will be here to see you, Valentina will make sure you are bathed and dressed. I will see you soon, dear." With that, Alicia departs with the other maids, leaving you with...

Valentina, former adventurer, Miriam's favorite maid on staff, and the girl's personal maid...

In other words, someone who knows Miriam better than she does. From what you understand of her, Miriam seems to love her stories of adventure... which probably lead to this whole situation. And now she...

is going to bathe...

Shit, you forgot, since your pilot suit handles those things! You need to take care of your body's hygiene without it! Or rather, the maid does.

She stares at you as you stare back. Avoiding a bath doesn't seem to be an option here...

What's Levi doing?

>what do you do?

We do the bathing but maid dose no tuchy as she can inform us of hows things been since we went missing
