Crunching and the sounds of warping metal reverberate throughout the arena as the unfortunate bot is thrown back against the wall, his chest area nearly caved in and seemingly barely able to support himself on his admittedly thin feet. The metal head slams against the protective wall, but all it does is provide a backdrop to the following pulverization as a number of lightning-quick blows erupt from the gorgon-esque robot.

The thin, wasp-like bot tries to right itself, holding what was once a dangerous-looking stinger arm upright for a brief moment; a last, desperate attempt to mount any sort of offense. It’s sadly for nought as the gorgon-bot twists primly, her metal tail lashing out- and colliding with the cranium of the battered buzzbot, sending it crashing to the ground under pounds of tensile steel.

“ENOUGH, already!” The punk-looking girl shouts in frustration as she pounds the wall of the ‘command area’ where she was situated. “Yo, ref! Call it done!”

The referee takes a look at her, then back to the pinned bot- it’s clearly not even able to fight back any effectively. He nods, and then motions to the young, slightly larger man opposite the girl. “COMPETITOR JURI CONCEDES THE MATCH! THIS BATTLE’S WINNER IS...JUNPEI!”

As the crowd erupts into wild cheering, you find yourself a bit concerned...this tournament might be rougher road than you thought. Not that you’re exactly here to win, no. But considering the beating that bot just took...how will Jago fare?

Hello, bot battlers, and welcome back to Magical Girl For Hire Quest! We are currently playing as Lorelei Vedder, effervescent magical girl extraordinaire, who's currently playing the role of elite minion (SHATTERLIGHT, THE BURNING or something you still need to work that out) for a rather rich man in a world full of competitive miniature robot battling. You’ve been assigned to gather up some supposedly rather powerful Minibot parts, known as the Arhu parts; experimental, but still valuable. Your current plan is to take them under everyone’s noses- using a tournament called the M-9 Battle Grand Prix, you’ve entered yourself as a competitor, and now it’s just a matter of waiting for the right moment...

“See what you’re up against?” The girl from earlier crows from the sidelines as your expression darkens a bit. Miyumi Aiba, heiress to Aiba Corporation- which just so happens to be a major thorn in your employer’s side. And now she might be a thorn in yours. “This is no place for rank amateurs. No one will blame you if you forfeit early. Although…” and here there’s a predatory grin on her face. “I suppose one of your stature might be open to some...help?”

“Help?” you can’t help but ask. “Like what?” In response, she merely waves you out of the break room, away from prying eyes.

“As I said, I am a rather influential person,” she says quietly, that grin never leaving her face. “However, I am not entirely so heartless as to crush a young girl’s dreams so quickly...so perhaps I might be willing to...convince some of our fellow competitors to go easy on you...were you to do the same for me, that is.”

“...Wait, you’re asking me to...to take a dive?” you ask cooly.

“Such a harsh word. I simply want to reaffirm our positions in society,” she answers not-so-innocently. “You would certainly be rewarded at the end of our little...bout.”

Hm...well, on the one hand...she’s really annoying. On the other hand, this could play into your hand easily…but on the third hand, there’s something about this she’s not telling you. You’re no spring chicken to a collusion and hustle, and this one’s setting off some alarms. The question is, is it something you can’t or don’t want to risk handling…?

> “...Well, I...maybe. Sure.” Play the sudden nerves angle up. She’ll be doing what you want, anyway.

You're still unsure just what to choose, but...something sticks out at you. "Wait, wait, question!”

She cocks an eyebrow. “And that would be?”

“Why do you need me to take a dive, then?” you ask with a tilt of your head. “Aren't you supposed to be super good?" at least, that was the implication that she was giving off. if she was as good as she likes to put herself up ass then she shouldn't really need someone to lay down for her; after all, it might just look better for her to beat her opponents square, right? Unless…

“Oh, simpleton. Clearly new to battling, aren’t you? It's not like you get a lot of repair time in between matches. You have to keep your bot fresh as possible for maximum effect- which means knowing how to mitigate damage. And Artesia is quite expensive to maintain- quite certainly worth it, but it's smarter to save money, don't you think?”

“Ohhhhh.” You nod your head in seeming understanding. “I would’ve guessed it was because your Dad or Grandpa thinks you'd be unable to lead your company because you haven't "proven your worth to the business", or-”

“I-I beg your pardon!?!” Her feet stomp twice in quick succession, giving little clacks on the hard floor.

“-maybe you were worried you weren’t good enough because all the pressure,” you just continue on. “Or maybe because they'd prefer you to marry you off to a suitor…” More stomping, almost rhythmic in how the clacking starts reverberating as you can see her ball her fists in anger.

It’s too fun! “...ooooooooooor because your long lost childhood friend-slash-crush is here in the audience and you want him to see you, but are too shy to actually tell him that you like-like him, or..."

CLACKITY-CLACKITY “Enough, ENOUGH!” CLACK CLACK CLACK. “I can see I was a fool to give you a chance to save your own pride, and consider my offer RE-SCIN-DED!” More clackity-clackity-clackity- wait, is she…?

One last clack, and she stops. “I will see you on the field of battle, and expect NO MERCY!” with an angry and purposeful march, she turns right around on her heel and stomp-clacks back into the room.

‘AND NOW, THE NEXT THRILLING MATCH! WE HAVE HIMAWARI AND CAPTAIN JAGO, VERSUS…’

“...RAIDA AND SOTTO!” You have no clue who either of those two are, but hopefully they aren’t going to cause you too much trouble…

As you walk out to the cheering crowd, you can't help but do a little twirl as you wave to the crowd, starting to feel in your old element again...the waving, the adulation, the fame…

But, as you step up to your little enclosed ‘command area’ with Jago, the feeling empties all too soon as you recall what you’re here for.

Across from you is a young man who's a bit on the short side and clearly fairly thin- he doesn't quite look malnourished, but he definitely looks as though he's been living on the streets for a while, or maybe just dresses bad. His dark green eyes stare across the way at you, piercing in their intensity, and his curly, dusty red hair just adds to the fiery look. “Let’s get ‘im, Sotto!” he yells as he points, and your opponent quite literally rolls in.

It unfurles itself, however, to show a curvy body that seems to be some sort of pangolin type bot. Its hunched back is full of layered scale-like armor, and he clearly has some sort of headset on his large, light orange optics that looks like MASSIVE set of binoculars. One of his arms has a wicked trio of claws, but the other arm seems to be some sort of sniper rifle. He just flicks his ‘goggles’ in a sort of salute, and readies his rifle arm.

No points for guessing what this bot is good at. “Think you got this, Cap?” you find yourself asking your bot.

“Just keep an eye our fer me in case thar’s any surprises, yeah?” He says in a low, rumbling voice before he heads into the ring, letting his hook scrape the ground for intimidation.

There is a pregnant silence as the two bots square off. “COMPETITORS READY!?” the announcer yells.

You both nod.

“ROBATTLE, START!”

Almost immediately, to your surprise, the armored bot curls up again...then suddenly REVS, his whole body spinning like a wheel before racing forward at massive speed!

“Wait for it!” you yell, and he barely has any time to acknowledge it by the time the pango-bot is bearing down on him. “Now- move!!”

Jago pivots, moving to the side only slightly, and the spinning dervish sails past him; you can hear a metallic screeching as he tries to turn too late, only to smash into the protective wall.

He bounces. You weren’t expecting THAT.

Unfurling in midair, he lands on his feet, arm sniper still prepped, but you can see he stumbles for a few moments...

“Dive him!” You yell quickly, and a shout of ‘GET MOVING!’ from your opponent is all that gets out before Jago roars mightly as he takes to the air.

Sotto barely has time to get his footing and turns around, only to not see his opponent where he should be- the precious second that it takes for him to realize and look up is all that's needed as Jago comes crashing down on him, head first and hook second.

The impact has Sotto wedged harshly between Jago and the wall; and you can't help but feel like this is a bit of deja vu as Jago gives him a vicious punch to the gut! The crowd roars at the mashing metal, and you feel a bubbling smile on your face.

But before you or he can get too comfortable, there’s a sudden scrape, and Jago flinches hard as something strikes him in the back.

Dangit, the tail! You'd actually completely forgotten about the thing, and now…

“Nice!” Raida yells as Jago is forced off. “Set him up, don’t let him touch you!!” he yells, and Sotto quickly ducks down, scuttling away from Jago’s possible grip- a leap to clear space has him pivoting quickly, and his tail lashes out; several small needle-like projectiles whipping out from the tip, each nearly as long and thin as a pencil.

You almost shout to him- but that’s when you notice they aren’t even aimed at him. They’re aimed at the ground for some reason, the lot of them quickly forming a half circle around the Captain, who seems equally confused, if not moreso, as the needles light up...

It’s when he starts to bring his gun arm to bear that you understand you need to make a move, and fast.

It takes you hardly a split-second to come up with an idea. He needs to move fast and just running wouldn't be quick enough. “Hook the wall!”

By ‘hook’, he already had it up, and by the time you finish the sentence he was already launching the thing. A massive shot rings out as Sotto fires, and a thin stream of what you can guess to be superheated heated plasma (or at least something like it) pulses out- but it misses by a fair distance as Jago hookshots out of the way, flashing briefly before it hits the ground not far from you.

For a second, Sotto tilts his head, as though he surprised that he missed. And neither you nor your partner miss the momentary lapse in concentration. “Again!” you yell, and again the hook shoots out, this time slinging him across and behind the sniper’s back- the gunner barely has time to look behind himself before he finds the good Captain nought but a couple of feet away.

“There you go!” You cheer at the same time as Raida shouts a warning- but it’s already too late. A burst of speed thanks to Jago’s jump jets has him diving for the enemy yet again, and as before, he closes the distance before his opponent can react in time, a shot going wide as Jago bats his gun arm away. There’s a second as Sotto rears back, his tail lashing out again, but it deflects off Jago’s armor, and the captain closes in just as the tail retreats- only to be replaced by the gun raising again. Jago just barely has enough time to bat the weapon away once more, the shot just grazing him.

He's by no means disarmed, however, and the scaled bot isn’t so new to cobmat as to not take advantage- there’s a sudden lurch forward as the claws on his other arm rise, and try to come down on Jago’s head. Before the blow can be struck, however, there’s a loud ringing of metal on metal as Jago’s hook manages to interfere, clashing with the cutting claws! Soon, the cheers and yells of the crowd echo as the two of them struggle, as Jago works to keep the sniper arm off him, while the claws and hook above their heads strain against each other.

“Don’t let up!” you cheer on!

“You can take ‘im!” Raida says in response. The struggle continues as to both of them try to jockey for position, but sooner than later it's clear that Jago has the advantage, when he starts to shove the bot back little by little. Suddenly, you notice something about to come from the pango-bot’s rifle barrel- some kind of charge that’s going down his entire arm. You don't know what it is, but you don't want him to risk getting touched by it.

“Get him off you! Watch his gun!” you yell, and Jago’s quick to comply, a swift kick to the midsection damaging the undercarriage of his opponent further- then another for good measure, the massive boot causing Sotto to grunt in robotic pain as he’s forced away- not that Jago is content with that. Sotto bot just barely manages to get away from a wicked slice by Jago’s hook- though a tearing sound through the metal tells you there was still a very palpable hit! When Sotto turns a bit, a notable gash in the claw arm tells you that Jago might’ve messed up any future attempts to really put much force in it.

As for the gun itself, it winds down instead of doing… whatever it was supposed to, itself smoking as though almost overheating.

“SOTTO! What’s going on!?” Raida yells worriedly, but Sotto just grunts as an answer, trying to back off ASAP, though clearly not moving as well as he was not too long ago.

“Don’t let him get away!” you yell, and if Jago had a movable mouthplate, you guess that he'd be grinning right about now.

“Not too fast there, mate!” he yells as he cocks his arm back. Sotto... Well, you can't see his front from this angle, but the way he flinches tells you that he knows full well what about to happen, and he immediately starts to move to the side in an effort to avoid it. But, as you saw already...he’s far too slow now.

The hook shoots out, and Sotto just isn’t quick enough to avoid it as it gouges a hole in his shoulder- the same arm that’s already been gouged once. This time though, the hook stays, embedding itself harshly into his body. What a mighty yank, Jago heaves back- and the bot is lifted off of his feet into the air. “CATCH O’ THA DAY!” He roars as the Pangolin bot is brought flying towards him, and lands at a crash at his feet, his arm nearly ripped out of its socket.

He’s easy prey- but a glance upward at Raida shows him looking absolutely shocked- and you don’t think the situation’s hit him just yet, amidst the roaring crowd.

It’s clear where things are going to go from here if it keeps up. Even if he tried anything sneaky, he's just not in good enough shape to get anything major out of it before Jago would retaliate. You’d love to have a little fun with him... But alas, you do have a something of a role to play, and Himawari wouldn’t be quite so vicious.

Which is why you fix him with a small, sincere-looking-on-the-outside-smile. “So, do you want to maybe call it here? I wouldn't want to hurt him more than he already is.”

Raida just gives you a glare, before he looks down at his bot- and how Jago has a claw to his face. His gun isn’t in a good state, one of his arms is nearly torn off, and with a single movement he could probably be dismantled easily.

It’s not exactly a surprise when he turns to the referee. “Alright...I quit.”

“COMPETITOR RAIDA HAS CONCEDED THE MATCH! THIS BATTLE’S WINNER IS...HIMAWARI!”

The crowd goes wild, and you allow yourself a light wave in thanks. Even if you do kind of want to dance.

To your surprise, as you step out of the command center- making sure that Jago doesn't look too worse for wear- you’re surprised to see Tooru with Moxer, as well as Kyo and Nia approach you. “Hey there, my student!” Student? Since when did… “Good work on that match! You did pretty well- though I guess my sparring with you gave you a lot of practice with shooter bots, huh?” He puffs himself up a bit as his two friends just sigh in bemusement behind him. Kyo’s quick to step up to you, however.

“Ignoring that…” he playfully jabs to his friend before turning to you. “That was pretty good battling, back there!”

“Oho, please! I just tried my best,” you demure. “Wasn’t anything special.”

Kyo shakes his head good naturedly. “Nah, you shouldn't undersell yourself!” he says with a grin. “I’d love to fight you later! We’re on the same side of the bracket, so who knows!” Oh, huh. That’s interesting. “I bet Zero and your bot would like to talk to each other, too.” Then he blinks, as though remembering something. “Saaay...where IS Zero?”

“And Sparkwing…?” Nia adds. “Ugh those two troublemakers! What if one of us was up next!”

“Looks like we’ll have to go find them…” Kyo huffs. “Great!”

Hmmm...this could be useful to you, you think. Considering that Prima is on the outskirts in her new, sleeker blue shell...then again, you should be checking in with her regardless. She's been assigned to casually walk around, keeping an eye on things- but you did give her a rendezvous point for after matches.

“Well, shoot!” you say, putting your hands on your hips. “I’ll help you find them! What do they look like?” Not that you don't know what one of them look like, but you're going to need to make sure what the other looks like for Prima.

“Well, Zero kinda looks like a...he’s yellow and black, and has a bee-ish head. Big legs, and yeah, goes by Zero,” Kyo responds. “Sparkwing kinda looks like an upright dragonfly, long tail, green and silver. She’s...well, dunno how she’ll take to you, but you should notice them well enough!” Nia gives him a flat look at that one, but you just log the information away in your memory for later.

To that end, you give them a small, silly salute. “Don’t worry, we’re on it! We'll meet back here in ten minutes?”

He nods. "Right!" And so you all split up.

5 minutes later, you're riiight outside the arena, casually walking away... And after checking to make sure that nobody is nearby, you swing around to the side, where nobody is there- except a certain point blue bot seems to jump a bit when she sees you and then bows deeply. “It is excellent to see you in good spirits, Miss.” She looks over to Jago, and you could swear her eyes narrow just a touch, and her voice gains a slightly deeper pitch. “Mister Ja-”

Jago balls a fist as he sets optics on the nursebot. “CAPTAIN, lass!”

“Shhhhh!” the both of you counter, and his optics widen slightly, before he slumps a bit. “Win a propa scrap an’ lookit how I’m treated’, huh?”

“Your silence would be far more conductive to the current operation, please!” Prima quickly snips, before turning to you. “I have conducted preliminary surveillance of the area, along with identifying general locations of security forces and patrol patterns, as requested! I am to presume your battle went well?”

“Yup,” you say easily. “Jago did a bang up job...well, banging up the competition. Still gonna have to fight some, but aside from that, I want you to keep a look out for that bot that we...encountered the other night.” You’d expected her have some sort of reaction to that, but she simply nods slightly. “Him and another bot are around here. Dragonfly-looking, they said. Called Sparkwing. Apparently they both ran off somewhere.”

“I see,” she confirms. “And what shall I do should I identify them?”

> “Distract them for as long as possible. Doesn’t matter how.” If you can get the kids DQed, that’d be great.
> “Tell them some rich girl has been messing with their humans, apparently.” If you could get them after Aiba, who knows?

Three questions.

1: What's the standard procedure for hiring prospective employees who are more technological in nature? Are they considered company property or full employees?

2: Since you said that Aiba was, er, Tap-Dancing in anger, were we pretty close to guessing her motivation to have us take a fall?

3: On a scale from 1 to 10, how would Captain Jago rate both Prima and Artesia.
>>

1: -If they have demonstrable self-awareness and the ability to obtain knowledge entirely unrelated to their function, and make decisions utilizing said information- or, if that explains it badly, if they have human-like AI enough that they are demonstrably free-willed, then they're treated no differently than other Outgoers. Robots or androids that fail this test of judgement are property of the Outgoer or unit that picked them up, usually.

2: -That plus the sheer fact that it sounded very mocking to her. You came waaaaaay too close for her comfort. But considering how many worlds you've been to, it's to be expect, no?

3: Prima- 7. Foine chassis, tha' sheila, but she needs ta add a lil 'play' in 'er work, yeah? Bit snippy.

Artesia- 9. Bloody work a' art, mate. Real spunky. Would give 'er a can any day. Wanna know what she's about, though, yeah?

It takes you a second to come up with a plan of action, but when you do, the more you mull it over in your head, the more you're confident in it. It's going to be a step-by-step process, though… “I want you to find ‘em, but don't engage. Use your scanner to figure out any weaknesses in them.”

“Ah, in case of a future confrontation?” Prima clarifies.

“Yeah,” you confirm. “We didn’t do that last time and paid for it. That, and I just KNOW that sooner or later I’m gonnal be fighting the boy who controls Bumble-bot.”

Jago narrows his optics in consideration. “Oh, tha’s a good one. Gonna ‘ave ta remember that.”

“Thanks, so did I. Can you link up with my communicator?” You quickly show off the smartwatch.

She gives it a brief look over, but then nods. “It should be within my parameters...I was built with wireless interface functionality, after all…”

“Great. Link up with it, and once you find them, give me a signal with their location since we really shouldn’t risk you being recognized. I’ll go see and talk with them myself.” She quickly takes your wrist, staring at the wristwatch for a few moments- and in a matter of seconds a small holo-message pops up. ‘KingPrimaM1045 wishes to connect to the network. Permit?’ A quick confirm, and Prima’s optics flicker. “There we go!”

“I’ll alert you as soon as I locate them, Miss!” Prima says with a salute. “I won’t disappoint you!” what's that, she heads off at a fast walk.

Jago just watches her go for a minute before he growls and slight frustration. “So, we’re jus’ gonna let the lass handle it? What’re we doin’ in tha meantime?”

Hm. Good question. “Well, after we meet back up and let them know we ‘sadly’ haven’t seen them, we’re…”

“..going to try and get a closer look at some of those VIPs,” you respond. “Might be a good idea in case one of them might try to get in our way, or maybe one of them can be helpful somehow.”

Jago just shrugs. “As ye like.” Seems like he doesn't have any particular concern either way for that one.

The meeting with the kids again is as short as you expected. “Sorry, I haven’t seen them yet.”

“Us neither,” Kyo responds with a pout. “We REALLY need to find them...our match wasn’t next, at least, but that still doesn't leave us with a whole lot of time…”

“It’s fine,” you insist. “I'll still keep an eye out.” They don't really have much else to say to that, but they simply nod, and you split up again. So, now it's time for you to see just what kind of VIPs are interested in this competition…

The whole VIP area kind reminds you of a dugout of sorts... If that dugout was lavishly furnished with fine seating, and even had its own drink bar. Girls from now on, from the looks of their ages and outfits, not to mention the bots next to them, are likely professional battlers of some stripe. There’s one in particular that seems to have a long, black cloak and a wide-brimmed hat, somewhat similar to the cowboy looking guy that you met earlier. His bot matches him and color coordination, a jet black model that seems surprisingly thin, but otherwise reminds you of Kyo’s own bot, with more horns. They both have their arms folded and don't seem to be doing anything other than blankly staring at everything.

Another is a nerdy looking girl- thick glasses, and a blue beanie, as well as what appears to be a fairly thick sweater. She’s busy writing in a small notebook, looking up and down between that and the match, clearly taking extensive notes. Next to her is a quadrupedal, crab looking bot with both rather large claws, and a cannon of sorts on its back that seems to be sleeping.

The other two seem to be more businessmen. It's hard to really discern between the two, but one of them seems to have glasses and be of a thicker build and slightly darker complexion, and the other is far thinner, pale and has a pinstripe suit on. He seems to be smiling at everyone, even giving the crowd a number of waves, while the larger individual seems to just be watching everything carefully. Then again, he's got shades on, so you can’t tell where he’s looking.

As a competitor, you might be able to get one of their attention, after all...

>Try to approach the dark-dressed boy. He’s probably incredibly skilled.

Which isn't even really all that far from the mark. Fortunately, you just have to get the attention of the guard in front of the VIP area and mention your intentions. It takes a bit of mulling over, but eventually he nods and heads inside in order to tell the girl that someone wants to see her.

She looks rather startled when the man whispers in her ear, but she looks over when he points you out, and you give a wave. She blinks a little bit, but then she gives a smile and waves you in. The others don't seem to be particularly interested, but they at least give you a bit of space. “Hello there! Not often that someone isn't so intimidated by me these days...as much as I try.”

Aww. Shame. However, before you can respond to that, you notice a quick beeping on your smartwatch. Not very hard to guess what that is. You're just surprised that she seemed to have found them so quickly...but you can't exactly just walk out immediately. You can spare a moment or two...

> “Well, I just noticed that you were writing some stuff down and I was interested in what!”
> “Aw, that’s a shame. You seem so nice! How could anyone be intimidated?”

“Aw, that’s a shame. You seem so nice! How could anyone be intimidated?” You have to admit, you don't really see how someone like that could be considered intimidating, at least at first blush- she's got to have some sort of crazy reputation.

The way she looks at you- something shocked, and disbelieving, along with maybe a little bit of hope- makes you think that whatever reputation she has, she’s rather exhausted of it. “Oh, uh...you...haven’t heard the ‘June the Disassembler’ nicknames? Really?”

“Uhh...no.” ‘Disassembler’? That sounds pretty hardcore.

“Oh!” And suddenly she smiles like it's the best day ever. “Well, don’t worry about it, it's just a stupid thing that people use because of my battling style, but I don't like how vicious it makes me sound! I-I won’t dwell on it, and I’ll just say I’m glad to meet you…”

“Himawari,” you finish for her.

“Himawari, right! So, I have to say, i kind of noticed you earlier, now that I'm thinking about it. Against the boy with the Arma-shell bot, right?” She moves her head to the side to look behind you to take a good look at your bot, who's just standing there looking somewhat uncomfortable, if his optics are anything to go by. “I have to say, that was pretty impressive on-the-fly strategy, although I think it was clear you were kinda flying by the seat of your pants. It’s a good thing he didn't seem all that experienced, either! I’m glad you won!” Suddenly, there’s a crash, and the referee is quick to announce a victor- by knockout, no less. A minotaur-esque minibot seemed to have the luck to face a smaller, cat-like one that bears a resemblance to Thundercat. “Oof,” she says, looking at the carnage. “Glad that didn’t happen in your match, too. I hate it when wins have to be taken by elimination. It’s always so...wasteful. Glad you gave the opportunity to let him surrender nicely.”

“Oh, it was nothing…” you demure...but now you have to figure out just where to go from here. Not that you have very long.

Best to stick to the simple stuff. “So, what do you think about the next fight? Who do you think is gonna win?”

“Oh? Well, from what I saw of the brackets, it...well, to be honest... I’ve seen one of them fight before.”

“Really? Who are they?” Someone she has history with, maybe? You didn't get a chance to look at the brackets, considering your last minute entry. Had sounded like Kyo didn’t get a chance to, either.

“Well, she’s...skilled, but there's a few glaring weaknesses in her combat style. IF the opponent can take advantage of that, then he stands a good chance. But she’s got a certain...strategy, that he needs to avoid. If not…” she lets the sentence hang, but it's pretty obvious where she was going from there.

‘AND NOW, OUR NEXT MATCH! TOORU AND MOXER VERSUS... MARISE AND MARIPOSA!’

As the familiar boy heads out to the arena, an unusually determined expression on his face, he looks around, and seeing someone in particular in the crowd apparently, he smiles and gives a quick wave.

And then his opponent comes out.

And she’s, you’re not ashamed to admit it, DROP-DEAD GORGEOUS. Tall, tan, and with beach blonde hair, her eyes sparkle in the spotlight. Her cute pink crop top and form fitting pants, along with her purple, clearly designer jacket, not to mention her cute low heeled shoes, emanates the very essence of a magazine model as she cocks her hips just so, hands in her pockets as she gives a small, sultry smirk across the arena to the boy, who’s jaw is well and resting on the ground.

Her bot, Mariposa, is no less stylish, with a multi color palette that evokes images of a beautiful monarch butterfly, with two wing-like plates coming out of her back even, and her long, thin legs that widen out to very high heeled shoes, completing the image.

Blowing a quick bubble- even bubblegum?- and snapping it back, you can hear her mouth something to the boy, which you can’t catch over the roaring and whistles of the crowd- but clearly he’s affected, shaking his head and making some motion with his arms.

“CONTESTANTS READY?” they both nod. “ROBATTLE...START!”

You can guess what strategy Marisol has...wonder how effective it is, though?

The fight is... Surprisingly close. From what you had seen of him first, you presumed that he was the sort that was all bark, no bite. But astonishingly, he actually manages to put up a pretty good fight, despite Marise’s constant attempts at winking and flirting at him- no doubt just to throw him off his game.

That's not to say he wasn't affected at all of course; you must have seen him get at least two different nose bleeds, especially when she leaned over just so…

But that didn't change the fact that Moxer was a Shooter class, while Mariposa, it seemed, needed to get in clothes in order to do her dirty work. And you also saw what the wings were actually for- blinding, as well as a sort of shield that she could swing in front of her in order to deflect fire. The two traded a good deal of blows whenever she closed in, and Moxer consistently peppered her when she was far away. At the end of the day though, Moxer managed to squeeze off one critical webbing shot, despite being nearly overloaded in his optics and blind to the onrushing Mariposa- gumming up her legs when she least expected it , and sending her crashing to the ground, where thanks to a quick order by Tooru, a flurry of bolts laid into her, quickly causing Marise to surrender.

“THIS BATTLE’S WINNER IS...TOORU!”

And the crowd goes wild, with June clapping politely at his victory. You do as well, if only because you hadn't expected that kind of performance out of him. Maybe you just caught him by surprise, and he wasn't kidding when he said he underestimated you? That’s actually a bit worrisome.

Marise, for her part, seems...put out, to say the least. she stomps on her heel, and the face the makes for all of two seconds...the image evokes nothing more than someone getting told ‘no’, when they weren't used to it.

“Well, that was pretty interesting!” June says cheerily. “I almost didn’t think he had the willpower…”

Neither did you.

...Wait, were you forgetting somethi- SHIT PRIMA. You check your watch. There’s 3 more messages. Sonofa...

The speed you fly out of your seat surprises June, as well as the others, but you barely have time to blurt out an apology before you race off, dragging Jago along who can do nothing but yelp in surprise. You'll have time for the others later, but right now...

As you jog to the rendezvous point, trying to make certain that you don't look too worried, you do your best to sneak a peek at the smartwatch’s messages without bringing them up on the holographic feed. The text is incredibly small, but you can just make it out.

‘Targets verified, sending coordinates now. Beginning target scans.’

‘Target scans complete, was not identified. Will return to rendezvous.’

‘You weren’t here, miss. Growing concerned. Was seen by target Sparkwing. We are...talking about her human. Unprompted. No witnesses nearby. Please advise further!’

‘Miss, please assist! I cannot escape her! Sending coordinates!’

...Oh boy. Fortunately, as you approach the second set of coordinates, which seem to be a bit away from your rendezvous point, you can hear a voice; high pitched, a bit buzzing, and very, VERY fast. “So the next time I told her that ‘you really needed to get a bit more bold and maybe try something new with the kid’ and she thought I was being silly but the next time they talked she did it anyway which makes me think that she just needs more of a push so that's kind of my thing for now but it’s pelican trying to play matchmaker I just think she needs to get a bit more of a spine which it's kind of funny because-”

“MISS!” Prima’s voice is loud yet wavering, as though you were an angel sent to deliver her from evil. Or at least annoyance. “Terribly sorry,” she says to the green-colored, giant-eyed insectoid bot. You’re pretty sure she doesn't mean it. “But this is my user and I must be going now, it was a pleasure to meet you, I will probably never see you again in such a social situation, goodbye!”

As she trots- nearly skips- over back to you, you feel an old stirring in your bones start up again…

It's tempting to do something, but it's too big of a risk, as much as you hate to say it. Instead, you just settle for patting Prima on the head as you turn away. “Yeah, yeah. Glad I found you. Let’s get going!”

“Awww he's going to leave me like that well I guess it doesn't matter we all have places to be so maybe I'll see you around even if you don't think we will!” You don't bother coming around to see if she's waving or not, but you and Prima walk just a little bit faster. Jago, who hung behind briefly, joins the both of you before long.

“Thank you so very much, Miss,” Prima says as you get a little ways into the parking lot, trying to keep out of sight. “She was...potentially overloading my audio chip.”

“Can’t take a lil’ gabbin’, sheila?” Jago ribs, but the glare she gives him silences him quickly enough.

“Yeah, I noticed,” you say primly. “So, what’s the news on her?”

“Very fast, but there seem to be structural tension issues in her center area. Dangerous for her. Fortuitous for us. She also does not seem to entirely listen to her user’s suggested commands, if what I could discern within her stories are accurate.”

Iiinteresting. “What about Zero?”

She pauses, and you imagine she’s running a particular memory through her mind. When she speaks, her voice dips a shade lower. “There is an area in his left heel area that seems to not quite be up to spec- the metal is of lesser grade than normal. There is also an area on both of his arms that seems to indicate that his combat attachments are not well-secured. A proper impact to the right location could disable them easier than normal.” Yeah, it’s pretty clear now. She’s got a grudge. Oddly adorable, though.

“Thanks a ton. Keep an eye on things out there for a bit longer, okay?” you ask.

“Certainly. However, I must ask, when will our attempt take place?” she wonders.

That’s a good question. They’re going to be showing the parts off after the semi-finals, so…

But would we have to? Even though she's sapient, she's property, both by the local reckoning and by how she thinks of herself.

>>
>>2379778
Conversely, would we want to take them as property? Assuming they're willing, we'd be responsible for them, which would include things like maintenance. Mechanicals are a thing in the intersection, but they need more than electricity; lubricants and worn/damaged parts would need replacing, and would have be custom made. Not cheap.
>>
>>2380044
>Conversely, would we want to take them as property?

yeah. Things might not be as cheap in the intersection than on their world, but on the intersection we have our own mad scientist that might want to experiment on them, and several vendors that could sell self repairing nanobots or similar. We can also avoid taking them out on missions and just leave them in the intersection; they don't seem to have an upkeep cost unless they get damaged.

So, something I feel like I should probably say sooner rather than later. Mind you, it's nothing necessarily bad. But it's more about future MGFH plans.

Basically, I got into this mostly to just try and make something cool. And part of what I think is cool, as one or two of you might have guessed by now, is crossovers. And kind of one of my big things with how I made this Quest was, create a setting where I could easily cross over into other works without too much fuss. Obviously, something that would stand on its own normally, but if I ever got the urge, I could basically go nuts.

Now, I've been trying to keep myself from doing too many crossover things at once because of how often I ran. I felt like it would get old quick for the players, if not myself. But with my new job situation, I'm not going to be able to run nearly as much as I'd like. And in that way, it's annoying because I do want to do more original world stuff. But at the same time, the fact that I'm not going to be able to run nearly as often as usual, I feel gives me an opportunity to do a bit of what I had kind of originally wanted to do- that being a lot of quest crossovers. Especially because, if I'm being quite honest, the way my schedule is looking right now, and knowing my own tendencies, it's going to take a heck of a long time for me to get through the types of job arcs that I generally tend to write, truncated writing or no.

So, in order to keep Miranda and company in people's heads, and still get to have a bit of fun, I'm going to be trying to arrange crossover events, primarily hosted by other QMs for a bit until I can really settle down. Like, I haven't moved yet (the job I have isn't THE JOB, that won't happen until a couple months, right now I have something to help save up money) and that's lurking in the wings, and that will be an out and out hiatus in and of itself.

And, well, I know it's not really necessary, but like I said I don't really like the idea of just leaving something be for so long, especially when I know of a way to keep things rolling even in my own absence.

If you have to, think of it as a bit of a group of filler arcs. Although I personally won't be considering them filler or non-canon. So after this job with Lorelei is done, you can expect that to start up. I'll mention on Twitter whenever such a crossover arises, but yeah. You can also expect smaller 'days of' one-shot runs over weekends after this is done as well- I can imagine at least a couple of folks are interested in the core three's backstories...

So, yeah. That's the state of things. Cheers!

>>
>>2385361
I'm in the same boat, though I wasn't a fan of the last crossover due to the clash in PC personalities. Miranda is very business-focused on the job, which rather sharply limits what she's willing to put up with.

“After the second round, when everyone is just getting really into the matches,” you decide. “The shock of the theft will probably stun enough people to give us a headstart in getting outta here.”

“We gotta place ta go after our plunder?” Jago asks.

“Well, I can’t just up and leave afterwards,” you say, your experience speaking for you on this one. “Waaaay too suspicious, even with a disguise. So what we're going to have to do is kinda adapt on the fly, but that doesn't mean that I don't have a couple of ideas!” You give ‘em a wink just to be sure, and they seem to be mostly satisfied by that. Heading back inside with Jago, you're quick to meet Kyo and Tooru- Nia apparently still looking for Sparkwing, which you quickly inform them about her general whereabouts.

After the expected hurrahs, you both split paths again- Kyo’s match is about to start; against… “MARKO AND ZIPPER!” the announcer calls. The minobot kinda resembles a large upright rat...one with some kind of turbine in its belly. It’s pretty bulky and part of you wonders if the name was ironic…

There's honestly not much to say about this one. Zipper was very clearly made to have their gameplan be shock factor- something that looks heavy and slow but really light on their feet. But after a few moments of dodging close calls and keeping the rat at bay, all too quickly Kyo’s got it figured out.

“He twitches his tail when he shifts! Attack then!” Is the shout that turns the tide, and exposes his strategy and tells to the world. With this, Zero starts leading his shots, and trying to get a bit more in Zipper’s face with that sword of his via feints and misdirection, which doesn't end well for the fat rat, causing a surrender.

Miyumi is up next, surprisingly enough... And boy oh boy, she does not mess around. From word go, Artesia seems to use a sort of crossbow device on her left forearm that launches some sort of plasma shots, and she is ridiculously accurate with it. The first shot nails the unlucky spider bot in the leg, and it just keeps going until in a matter of seconds the bot is all but disabled. It only managed to get off one basic webbing shot, which Artesia dodge's with a ballerina’s grace, before delivering the final shot to shut the bot down.

You couldn't help but notice that she didn't even bother to give them the option of surrendering. A bit ruthless.

The second round will be starting soon- maybe you can ‘get lost’ backstage for a bit to make sure of things. But you can't help but think about your acquaintances...bah. If there’s any preparations you want to make, now would be the last good time.

You’re going to need to make absolutely sure your getaway route is solid. You had an idea of escaping via the upper rafters and getting through the top end of the stadium, but best to make sure that nothing's going to be in your way now…

You can't exactly go up there to check, but you can take a few glances up to make sure that there is nothing in particular. You can already see that there is going to be a few issues with Jiji bots, just as Mr. King said; while they aren't up on the rafters, they are in rather high. unusual places, such as sitting on the roof of the press box, and high up on the various banners spread around the perimeter. Nothing too close to the civilians, which is good since you're going to probably end up having to cut a bit of a path over there. Ground side, it seems they have some of the Cerebis bots are also doing rounds, mostly stick close to the competitor’s entrance/exit out of the underground floor. Big, gunmetal grey, and dual headed, with both heads practically on a swivel to make sure nothing goes awry. Fortunately, it seems like there's only three or four of those, while there are at least 5 snipers you need to look out for. This is besides the ‘Gargant’ bots which you still haven’t seen, but you have to figure they’ll the primary guard.

On the whole, not the cleanest, but it'll do for now. Maybe you’ll have to find a way to distract the snipers…

Another cheer goes up from the crowd as you consider your options. Seems like things are moving along just fine…

“AND NOW, OUR NEXT MATCH! HIMAWARI AND HER PARTNER, THE BRUTAL CAPTAIN JAGO, VERSUS…”

Brutal? Really?

“...THE HIGH-FLYING AGORA!” Already, you’re wondering about this one as you and jago approach the arena…

And the man is… something else. Short, wavy, pastel purple hair and easily north of six feet , he's got a white leather jacket on and diamond eye tattoos that make him look like an old fashioned or heavy metal singer. A bit gaudy, but noticeable if that's what he's going for. As for the bot...

This robot looks like a pterosaur, no two ways about it. The soft brown bot’s pretty streamlined, but it's got two long cannons on the underside of its stomach, and you'd be willing to bet just about anything that it's got another one stored away in its mouth. A shooter type, you’d wager. But really, your biggest concern was those wings. Wide and thin, if this thing could actually get airborne it was going to be a pain for you…well, if you wanted to win, at least.

“CONTESTANTS READY!?” comes the sudden call, and realizing the situation, you have to quickly hold your hands up in a ‘timeout’ gesture, shaking your head.

The ref, oddly, looks surprised at this. “...CONTESTANT HIMAWARI HAS REQUESTED A MOMENT FURTHER! SHE WILL HAVE TWO MINUTES!”

...Right. Kneeling down to Jago, he regards you with a bit of concern. “Roight, so, somethin’ up, then? What’s the gameplan?”

> “Jago, you’re awesome, but 'cause of...later... I’m gonna have to ask you to sandbag this a bit.”

“Jago, you’re awesome, but cause of...later… I’m gonna have to ask you to sandbag this a bit,” you say and as light a whisper as you possibly can. you don't know anyone overhearing or otherwise trying to read your lips. “I know you probably want to go all out, but we didn't really come here to win the tournament-”

“Yeah, yeah. I gotcha,” he says, and to your relief he doesn't sound too fussed about it. “Keep things a looker, but drop ‘fore it gets too busy.”

“Right, I’ll say you’re too wounded to keep going, too.” you agree. “So, we ready?”

He grunts once, walking back into the combat area. “Aye, les’ go.”

Egh. You feel kinda sorta a bit bad about it…

“CONTESTANTS NOW READY!?”

But you’ll just have to buy him something nice to make up for it later. You nod.

“ROBATTLE, START!”

Immediately Agora lets out a piercing well, and with a flap and the sound of some sort of turbine spinning up, it takes to the air!

“Can you bring him down?” you ask. You might be trying to lose this one, but you have to at least make it look good. Or at least SOME kinda authentic.

“I kin try!” Jago yells, as his hook shoots upwards. It's a little use though, as the aerial menace darts out of the way, a mocking screech following in his wake. Two more shots upward meet a similar fate, and while part of you is kind of happy that you found such a formidable opponent to lose to…

...god, that screech is annoying.

“Not so easy to catch my bud Agora, is it?” the man- you never DID catch his name- boasts. “He’s just too epic for the laws of gravity to care! but hey, if you want to get a good look at him so bad, then try this! Crazy Drill, my guy!”

“Rock on!” The soaring bot replies, and suddenly it shifts itself, somersaulting over itself in the air once before twisting, fast and faster and faster- until his body is nearly a blur, and before you know it Jago's staring down a violent drill missile careening straight for his face!

Agora's got cannons and the first attack he get's told to do is a melee attack?

Motion to have Captain be on the evasive to see just how maneuverable this Crazy Drill attack is. Will it go in a straight line until it hits something? Or will he shift back before he hits the ground? Can it change trajectory midflight?

If he crashes, we can follow with a Shark Dive + Crunch Grip.

Or a Shark Dive RIDER KICK
>>
>>2387694
You start to give a shout, but almost before you can say anything, the blur of a bot is on him- Jago does his best to dodge to the side, but a loud wailing of metal lets you know that Jago’s been hit- if the gash in his side hadn’t been proof enough.

“Gyahahahaha!” That laugh is...really damn annoying. “Looks like your sailor’s just a bit too slow, girlie!” Watch me ‘sink’ your precious Captain!!”

“Bloody wretch!” Jago curses as he rights himself; the gash isn’t slowing him down, nor does it seem very deep, but considering where it is, if he gets hit again, that could change quickly- and you DO still want him in functioning order for the heist, otherwise things are going to get...well, a lot more worrisome.

The dinobot goes wide, exiting out of its drilling frenzy, and you soon see what the weirdo meant- those cannons are lighting up, as Agora swoops in for a strafing run!

Not so sure if you can just get out of the way so easily; not with him and that kind of speed. So you shout the only thing you can think of. “DIVE!”

He doesn't have time to ask what the plan is, he just does it. His boots flare off as he takes to the air, just as the bolts come raining down, missing him by scant centimeters. He barely gets his legs out in front of him as the flyer swoops just under him; enough to at least plant them on his back and kick off, sending the flyer off course.”

“You lucky little- watch it, dude!” the man yells as his bot wavers midair.

It’s not enough to truly destabilize him, but enough so that by the time Jago lands, his flight path is rattled- causing him to need to slow down, nearly brake in the air as he tries to turn around to face you again. "That's it- light 'im up, for reals!"

“Catch him!” you yell, losing yourself if only for a moment. This crazy looking rockstar reject is really pushing your buttons, and part of you wants to just clocked him one. But you can't. So you might have to settle for the next best thing...at least for now.

Jago doesn't even respond verbally, just gives a staticky snarl as his hook swings forward and out at lightning speed- the overgrown buzzard barely has time to turn around before it catches him near square in the face, piercing an eye socket.

“SQAARAWWK!” “AGORA!” These are the two yells that hit you as the immediate reaction hits, the flying bot suddenly flapping his wings, with the sound of that turbine whirling up even faster. Before you can say anything, the birdbot suddenly shoots off, and Jago is dragged along with it!

There’s sudden shouting in the arena before you can say anything, but it doesn't take you long to get your head straight again. “Get up on his back!” you yell, trying to put a bit more panic in your voice than there normally would be. “You have to bring him down!”

He doesn't respond again, but you can quickly see that amidst the flailing and the panicky bot circling in the air, that the distance between the two is rapidly receding. The referring is trying his best to call the wild bot down, but he’s not exactly in a listening position…

By the time Jago manages to get on him, it’s only just barely keeping itself under control, and mounting it doesn't actually do any favors. Something goes wrong- you're not quite sure what, but it looks like he put a foot on the wing where he wasn't supposed to- and the next thing you know Jago’s holding on to him by the neck for dear life as the two of them immediately going to a death spiral, diving in a malstrom of metal straight towards you!

“WATCH OUT, LASS!” is all you get before impact, a sound that reminds you of a car crash more than any kind of battle as you instinctively turn your head away, throwing your arms up in front of your face.

But the sound is all you experience- the crash, the yells, the announcer. But you’re fine, yourself.

Part of you doesn't want to look back. The other knows that you have to. And when you do... You breathe a slight sigh of relief.

Jago’s on the ground, sure. He looks a bit dented in a couple of places, absolutely. But he's looking at you with his optics undimmed, and by all rights it seems like he's largely fine. As for Agora, though…

cont.
>>
>>2393394
...Well. ‘Broken’ would certainly be a word for it. One of his wings seems to have been been particularly out of shape, nearly at a 90 degree angle to the rest of his body. His beak and most of his face is absolutely ruined, most of half of his upper shell hanging off. His one remaining eye is frantically dimming and relighting, and before his stunned owner can say anything wrong, there are several people in coveralls and with a variety of toolboxes that quickly enter the arena- techs, likely. Basically medics.

Yeesh, the fight had pretty much just gotten started! But then the wannabe rocker suddenly starts bashing the entrance door open, ignoring the shouts as he races to his ally’s side. Jago, on the other hand, walks- if gingerly, back to your area, too.

You weren’t even intending to WIN this one...but now how do you play THIS off?

Well... You can still make this work, maybe. Not like that was expected at all, but…

At any rate, it's not too hard to get into the expression of someone in shock. If only because part of you kind of was. Wide eyes, pinprick pupils- stuff you've done before, I will probably do it again.

“Lass, you good?” Jago asks, cradling his side. Seems like that crash might have genuinely aggravated that injury of his. That's going to be an issue, but you can work around it. “Not quite the dive I was expectin’, but…”

You decide not to answer him verbally; instead of just putting a hand on his shoulder, and slowly sinking down to his level. “Lass?” Softly, gingerly, you pull him close, lips edging closer to the aural receptors…

“Play along.” You whisper, and it’s there you break out one of your favorite tricks.

Crying on command was always surprisingly useful. Especially when you can force out the actual tears. You're such a bit blurry now because of it though, so you can't exactly tell who's looking at you, but you always had a good sense for these sort of things. You're mumbling meaningless words now, nothing that you actually say out loud, but enough so that the people that are looking can tell that you're traumatized about SOMETHING.

There's a lot of muttering and concerned words floating around, and you have just enough vision to see the referee walk over to you, his large mustache rumbling in concern. “Miss…”
You give him a slow, shaky look up words as you meet his eyes. “Good news; it appears as though Agora will be functional in due time. Your attacks did not quite pierce his core box, it seems, which was indeed located in his cranium.”

You take a moment to look appropriately shocked before he continues. “Technically, the rules state that as long as the opponent has not totally ceased function due to opponent action, the competition who’s bot is left standing is the winner. That would be you, madam. This means that you are cleared to advance to the next round.”

“O-oh!” You let out a surprised little gasp. “I...I suppose so…” You worry your lip a little bit and look around with uncertainty, trying your best to sell the concern. “I guess if he’s okay…? Just...how scary that all was…”

He nods in solemn understanding. “Battling is a thrilling, yet dangerous, pastime. This is the risk that all who enjoy it run. Now, if you’ll excuse me…” he clears his throat and returns back to facing the audience. When he announces you as the victor, you make sure to not lock eyes with anyone.

cont.

>>2393687

When you get back to the rest area, jago and tow, you're only partially surprised to notice that Miyumi is back there, waiting for you. Her expression is...hard to read, but you can sense a little bit of imperiousness, and also something of curiosity?

When she speaks, it’s in a surprisingly venom-free voice. “You really are brand new to this, aren’t you.” It’s not stated as an insult, or a question- merely fact. “Before this I was livid. Now…” she sighs, shaking her head, as Artesia stands behind her silently. “Go home, girl. If THAT rattled you, you certainly aren’t ready for competitive battling. It can get QUITE brutal.”

Well, she certainly seems to have bought into the act. That’s got to be a good sign, hopefully. And it's for that reason that you don't say anything. You just give a small, shaking nod and avert your eyes as best you can. All the better for you to look less sure and more hurt. But at least this gives you-

“Don’t just take that, Himawari!” WHAT.

Your head whips backward, just as Miyumi looks around you as well to see just who said that. To your honest surprise, it’s Kyo. Tooru’s right besides him, as is Nia. “Battling is hard, yeah, and sometimes it can get rough!”

“But accidents happen,” Nia says comfortingly. “And we checked on things after you left. He’ll be fine after some repairs. We know you didn’t hit him there on purpose- you’re too nice for that!”

“She’s too nice, PERIOD,” Miyumi interjects, now stepping around you to face the trio. “Watanabe, Mine...Kanzaki.” her expression shifts to something almost admirable- but only for a split second before it’s school back into its usual mild disdain. “It’s just proof of what I said before. Only those with with the born nature to battle can win! SHE lacks it, and YOU don’t have enough of it!” She steps up to Kyo, looking him the eye- at least, as best she can. She’s like, a full head shorter than him.

Tooru then turns to you, a determined expression on his face. “Himawari, I get you might not be feeling well about things right now. But I think you've got a great talent! Don’t just let it fall away!” Wow. You’ve really got these kids hooked on you, somehow. But it seems like they’re expecting a response. Does it matter, though…?

...probably, yeah. Smart money says these kids will show up again one way or another.

“You...you’re right.” Well, sort of. But you can’t let him get too uppity about getting you ‘back in the game’ as it were. Fortunately, you’ve got a bit of an out, as you look to the side towards your companion. “But, I don’t think the Captain is in good shape…”

“Oy, don’t yew speak fer me! Ah’m foine!” Jago grumbles loudly- well still holding his opened up side. “Could smash apart a dozen more bots like that!” The way everyone else is looking at him tells you they don't exactly believe him, though.

Tooru just rubs his chin in thought. “Hmmm...I hate to say it, but you might have a point. That’s an obvious weak spot for anyone you face in the rest of the tournament, and it's messy enough that it’s not something that can be easily repaired in an hour or two…unless! Kyo!” He snaps his fingers in excitement. “Your grandpa’s a whiz with this kinda stuff! He can’t rig something together?”

Kyo scratches his head in concern. “Well, nah, he’s pretty good, but...would he be able to get here fast enough?”

“Worth a shot!” Miyumi just snorts in derision as Tooru and Kyo’s plan takes place, and even Nia pipes up.

“Maybe if they met halfway...can you do that, Himawari?” She turns to you, as do the others. “I know it’d be a bit of a walk, but Kyo’s grandfather is amazing with repairs!” Oh, wait, damnit, no!

“Nonsense.” Miyumi scoffs. “There’s no way that would work. She’d need to have some sort of ride to him.” Oh, phew. That would’ve been b- “So if you’re so intent on having this girl go on, I'll loan you my limo.” …

“Please, you don’t have to worry about me so much!” You can't let ‘em get started like this. If they do, then you're going to have way too much interest in you to actually get away to pull off the heist! “I’ll- I’ll be fine. Really. I know out there was a little shaken..”

“To say the least,” Miyumi quips, to a glare from Nia.

“...but I guess, thinking about it, it was something I needed to learn sooner than later. I couldn't ask you to go through all this trouble for me, and really I kind of got further than I expected, even! I just...kinda need some time to get used to it, y’know? Settle my brain…”

“Mmm...are you sure?” Kyo asks, almost whiningly. “I think you’d do great.”

“Don’t worry, I’m pretty sure I WILL do great- but next time, y’know? There’ll be other chances, right?” After all, you’re pretty sure there's more than one tournament.

And indeed, they nod. “Yeah, the next round is gonna be at Yuri Stadium in Blossom City,” Tooru says with a wide grin. “Ahhh, the sweet smell of the City of Flowers…grhk!” That last bit was thanks to a quick elbow from Nia.

“Really, though,” Miyumi says, frowning at you. “You’d best get over this sooner than later if you truly want to compete. I can assure you, that if you're not capable of seeing a bit of metal fly, then battling is not the sport for you.”

Jago steps in front of you suddenly, arm out as though protecting you. “Oy, she’s great at battlin’! Just...not so much seein’ what comes o’ it…” he trails off. Not sure if that was intended to be helpful, but you pat him for trying anyway.

“At any rate, I’ve no doubt that my match will be up soon,” Miyumi says haughtily. “You may all watch if you like, while I show how a true battle should take place.”

“What if one of us is against you?” Kyo says curiously.

“Then you shall have a front row seat! Ohhhhhohohohohoh!” Oh wow, that’s a really good rich girl laugh. “Come, Artesia!”

With that, and a small bow from the bot in question, she steps around the lot of you gracefully as she heads back to the main arena.

Kyo just sighs. “Miyumi...geez.” Soon, he turns to you, his face full of sympathy. “Hey, you take as long as you need, okay? I’m guessing you’ll tell the ref you’re out once you’re good?”

“Yup.” You nod, trying not to seem too eager to see them out. Frankly, you just glad some of the other competitors haven't shown back up yet…

“Alright, then. Take care. Come on, guys, I wanna see just what Miyumi’s on about…” and with that, finally, they leave.

At last. “So...now wut?” Jago asks.

Now? Now you need to contact Prima, and find a good place to change.

Fortunately, there’s a small area around a corner of the stadium that seems suitably deserted- no cameras, no nothing; just seems like a small alcove that was never quite finished and was put to use as a sort of temporary storage area, judging from the few boxes and cleaning supplies that are just tucked away. You quickly send off a message. ‘It’s time. Where are you?’

The response is almost instant. ‘Currently on level three of the north concourse, near a concessions stand.’ Okay, then, good. In terms of straight line distance, you're not that far from each other, both being on the north end. You know there’s a west and east vip entrance, but the parts should be in an unmarked door just a few halls down…

...the problem with that being that there wasn’t really a ton of options for getting past the guard bots there that would keep you clandestine. This place was simple as hell, and really was basically just simple corridors.

Soon, a second message comes through. ‘Awaiting orders.’ Right, then. Soon as you’re done here, you just need to slip into the nearby restroom...

>Prima gets down here if possible, see if she can’t get into the guards’ systems. Walk in, acquire parts. Difficult, but otherwise silent for a while.
>Just brute force it. Charge, see if you can take whoever’s guarding it out quickly. Smash and grab, basically. Easy to do, hard to get away with.

‘Get down here as quietly as possible. Meet at the following coordinates. Want you to get into the guard’s systems.’ You send the message off, including your current location in the alcove before you head to the restroom. Shame there’s not an actual changing room anywhere nearby…

‘Understood.’ Now it was just a matter of patience. If she managed to get down here without alerting anyone, then-

“Oi, so what am I doin’?” Jago says, shocking you back to the fact that he’s still around.

“Just need you to wait in the break room.” You say casually. “You’ll know when we need to get going...”

You always been a master of quick-changing, and you’re back in your quite very memorable outfit in a little under 30 seconds. Now you just need to get back around the hall without anyone walking past and wondering what the heck.

It takes a bit of careful maneuvering- you have to dive behind an outstanding travel cart as one of the workers is jogging off to somewhere else, but beyond that you fortunately don't have any troubles, and it seems that Prima didn’t either, when you see her in the alcove behind a couple of medium sized boxes, already in combat ready mode. “I see you are prepared, miss. Should I begin?” You nod.

With that, the two of you quickly dart out of the hallway and break into a run, rounding the corner. Immediately, Prima’s optics flash a multitude of soft colors as she targets the bot in front of the door. Which...hoo. It’s…

...It’s pretty big. At least two heads taller than you and nearly scraping the ceiling, it’s a quadrupedal design with thick, tree trunk legs, colored deep forest green, and it's front covered by two tower shields with very large cannons on its front shoulders. VERY clearly a bot designed to protect something…

...at least, externally. Internally, however, seems to be a different story as it immediately stops and starts, it's bucket-like head and single red eye swiveling around as though it's not sure what's happening, despite the clear and present danger.

“Access to weapons subsystems granted. Please hold.” There’s a blink in her eyes, but she doesn’t falter even as the guns are trained on her. “...Subsystems disabled. Attempting access to remote warning protocols...protocols disabled. Attempting access to locomotion subsystems…”

Oh, damn. THAT’S handy as shit. Well, time for you to handle your own business!

You quickly dart forward, slipping underneath the colossal bot and wrenching the door open- you don’t really want to bother with lockpicks, so you just -twist- and you’re soon smiling at the sound of the lock snapping. Old fashioned doors were just SO easy to deal with…

Of course, you’re not really surprised when you see 3 well-suited men sitting at a table, one end occupied by what looks like a scientist. Four men in dark sunglasses and in simple black suits makeup what you can guess the human parts of security, and all of them surrounding…

The legs are sleek, silver and gold, just like Mr. King said. You actually wouldn't call them gaudy like he did- there’s a certain organic style to them, a combination of artisticness and semi-natural looks that- well, that’ll come later.

Right now you have a room full of shocked people- including guards that are raising their weapons to handle.

>Nope, not going to even bother with these folks. Jump straight through, grab the legs, start booking it.

A large part of you just wants to fireworks the lot of them until they stop moving, but as soon as you raise your hand, you remember.

Non-lethal. Crap.

Which is why you turn it into a dash for the nearest gunman, who recoils in surprise- and because of that doesn't get his shot off in time for you to grab the barrel of the gun enforce it away from you, simultaneously snapping the kick to the back of his leg, causing him to involuntarily kneel just in time enough for your fist to hit his jaw.

You keep him from slumping over- he’s a good meat shield as the entire room tumbles into chaos, but it's not like you keep them in your arms forever as you immediately toss him to one of the executives attempting to flee, causing the both of them to crash to the ground as body impacts body.

A shot goes off, pinging off the head of your helmet, and instinctively you let fly a small fireworks stream- despite your earlier misgivings. The miniature explosions light up the room for a bit, causing howls of pain and surprise, but you’d been aiming for the hand, not the face, and the worst he’d gotten was a bloody hand- oh, and missing part of his pinky. Whoops. He shouldn’t die from that bleeding out, though...hopefully. That’d be embarrassing.

Leaping across the table, you pivot your waist in mid-air to deliver a spinning roundhouse to one of the other execs, finishing it off with a sudden backhand as you continue rotating to the man's outstretched gun arm. Your trailing leg rises up as you land, turning it into a vicious knee that buries itself in his gut, causing him to double over for another sock to the jaw- yeah, something got dislodged, there. You repeat the same thing you did with the first executive to him, picking him up and hurling him at the remaining guard and last exec who had opted to group together. The mass of humanity goes sprawling as they collide, several of them impacting the back wall. Good, that means at lea- wait, wasn’t there a scientist her-

*CRASH* Something breaks over the back of your head, and a multitude of shards rain down around you.

...Looks like pottery.

You turn around, to see an ashen-face scientist with what looks like the remains of some potted plant. He immediately starts to stammer- but you cut him off when you bury a fist in his gut, and an open palm to his face that causes him to crash against the whiteboard that he had been standing nearby earlier, causing him to slump down.

Finally...all that. For these.

The parts, carefully situated on a stand that kept them up right, actually feel pretty nice in your hands. You quickly stow them in your oversized pauldrons, and…

...phew. That’s it, huh?

Well, no. You still need to get out.

You quickly exit the room, to find that Prima is still staring down the Gargant. “Operation complete?” she asks, not turning to you in the slightest. Guess she has to keep concentrating on it for her little hackjob to stay in place.

“Yes indeed!” you say, unable to keep the cheer (and sudden bravado) out of your voice. “Now, we just need to abscond! And quickly!” You doubt absolutely NO ONE heard that little scuffle, but...frankly, it’s a miracle no one’s stumbled by ALREADY.

“There is a concern. I cannot currently access temporary shutdown subsystems,” Prima says, still looking at her target with her optics flaring. “Should I release my intrusion, the guard will return online and at full capacity in approximately 1.3 seconds. A system-wide alert will be sounded.”

Ah.

“Is there anyway you can make a few things...more permanent? A bit of a malfunction?” you ask. If she could make IT cause some trouble, then…

“A moment…” her eyes flash again as she remote interfaces with the guard. Suddenly, her head twitches violently, but as you reach out to her, she holds a metallic hand up to stop you. Her head stops twitching, and then her eyes flash varying shades of blue before finally flashing green and then returning to their original color. “He is currently registering all individuals as friendly- any more interference run to the risk of activating protocols that I am unsure of the consequences of.”

“That’ll do!” you say. “Now we leave!”

You quickly turn away- and none too soon as you hear footsteps coming down all of them the opposite direction. You're just far enough away so that you barely hear someone talking to the large bot- but you can clearly hear the response:

“No one registered as a threat, sir.” Fantastic. Now you just need to get out of here and avoid any patrols before someone discovers-

Suddenly running footsteps sound down the hall, and you can hear someone shouting into a communications device. “ALL EMPLOYEES, CODE YELLOW, CODE RED! WE NEED MEDICS DOWN HERE! REPEAT, CODE YELLOW AND CODE RED! BE ON THE LOOKOUT!”

Well. So much for that. If he puts everyone on guard, then...

“Follow me!” you quickly say. You need to change fast, and get Prima out of here. You don't bother to worry about too much stealth at this juncture- it would just waste time. You and Prima end up in a dead sprint, hopping into the bathroom just as a number of people’s voices start ringing out, and you do another quick change, making sure to make yourself look scared and confused- which isn't exactly difficult. The legs are in your pauldrons, and your pauldrons (along with the rest of your suit) are in your tool bag. But with how bad things are going to get...you’re genuinely uncertain of how Prima’s going to get out. She’s going to be under suspicion if she gets spotted at all, and she doesn’t know the way around as well as you do.

As you take a peek outside at the hallway, peering around another parked cart, you hear people shouting back and forth, feet marching...you have to think of a plan asap.

An idea crosses your mind- something that is probably more than a little bit risky, but you can't say it's more dangerous than any of the other options. Almost immediately you shut yourself back into the bathroom and put yourself inside a stall, Prima following. “Miss? Do you need to use the facilities? Should I wait elsewhere?”

“No, no, just give me a moment. And don’t panic.” No time to be funny (shoot). You need to concentrate. Deep breaths. In and out. You’re you, and you always will be...but ‘you’ need to be elsewhere while you are still here. Let the spirit free itself from the body, bound only by the smallest tether, let the winds of life open the window to the temple that is your body.

In...out…

In...out…

In…

And then you’re looking *out*.

>Current Mana: 6500/7500

You still not quite used to this. It still looks wavy, it still looks a bit like you’re swimming underwater, but you can still see everything clear enough. And right now, you can see yourself, something over like a puppet with strings cut- and Prima panicking. “Miss! What happened! Are you well!? What did you do! This illness is not in my databanks!”

Poor thing. Part of you wants to try and calm her down, but you don’t get much headway on that before she starts talking again. “If this is what you indicated, then...I will remain here until you awaken!” she pronounces, and promptly clambers up to your waist and sits on your lap, knees hugged to her chest.

Well...that’s nice of her. Now you need to get to business.

GET IN THE ROBOT LORI!
>>

Your first instinct is to find one of the other people to actually squirm your way inside; you hate the feeling, but…!

And then it hits you. These bots here were...well, they weren’t ‘alive’ perse, but they might be close enough? It could be worth a shot, at least. And you know just the first subject to test it on…

The Gargant isn’t where it was as you fly/float (it’s kinda like you’re walking in super low gravity, SUPER weird) along, but you DO hear massive footfalls nearby, and make a mad dash for the source- you're already starting to feel the tug of you're limited range, and you don't want him to get out of it. As soon as you around the corner though, you see it right there- more collide with it, really.

And by ‘collide’ it’s more ‘submerge yourself into its being’.

There's a flash, and…

...whoa.

It’s...almost like some trippy cyberpunk movie. There’s...a lot of files and folders that you can see zipping around, and yet you seem to be floating in a wide expanse that has a ton of lines of code shooting about, stuff you couldn’t decipher even in you had years.

Ha. Actual ‘data streams’. That’s neat!

As you look around, you can see in the distance what appears to be a very large window, and your only guess is that that's what the visual feed is. Now, how do you move- ah! Force of will, got it.

Interestingly, as you reach closer, you see that there is more than just a large television feed. There’s...well, you’re not certain, but it’s large and slightly red. Kinda reminds you of a blob of mana, but you’re not certain…

But, at any rate, you need to figure this out. Now, if this is anything remotely like getting into someone else…

You're not quite sure what to make of your current position in this body. honestly though, if you have to admit it's kind of...smoother? At the very least you don't feel gross or icky like you did with ‘Randa or your teacher when she let you try it on her. It just feels…smooth. Kind of like you're in a mech suit, but then the mech suit is in you at the same time. Which you suppose that's kind of what's happening here. It’s kinda a funny feeling in your...well, not bones, more being, but you can't say you dislike it.

“Intrusion…” Wha? “Systems...unavailable. Virus...not identified?”

Oh. Huh. That was...unexpected. “Yeah, sorry, hun, kinda need your robo-body for a minute,” you speak as you will yourself to move those cannons. You’re not sure if killing anyone in this body would count as killing anyone., and a large part of you doesn't want to risk it, but that doesn’t mean the appearance of it isn’t possible, and doesn't mean you can't do a lot anyway…

Well. You don't exactly need to break this down to a science. Although there is that whole issue about load-bearing walls that you probably want to avoid, but then again, you're not exactly an engineer, so. Yeah.

Fortunately, the only thing nearby is a pair of workers nearby talking frantically. You quickly get their attention when you manage to lift up a leg and send it right through the nearby wall.

“What the-!” Holy-!” their shouts of surprise tell the story as you start doing your best wrecking ball impression and start slamming into various things. Honestly, it's kind of ridiculously fun. You’re not the combat monster than your friends are so getting to let loose a bit like this is pretty cathartic!

“Fun?” Oh, yeah. That.

“Yeah, botboy!” At least you think it's a boy. Not sure. Honestly, you're kind of surprised it's not panicking more about having its body stolen. “Don’t get to go hog wild like this very often, so like heck I'm going to let that go to waste!”

“This is not optimal defensive measures.” Optimal?
“Optimal?” You find yourself having to laugh at that. “Optimal’s for chumps! I’m doing this ‘cause I want to!”

“‘Want to?’” Yikes, this guy. “Definition is unclear...new data logged.” Huh. It can do that while you're in control? Hopefully that’s not a big issue. Bam, there’s another wall gone. Out the back seems like a good pathway, and you’ve made some decent progress- just beyond should be the loading docks, if your directional memory is accurate...there’s a lot of screaming now, though, and-

Suddenly there's a flash at the bottom of your screen name, and your viewpoint shakes. Turning around takes a second, but when you do manage to look behind you you see that it's one of the Ceberis guards, mouth open, and cannon out. You can see a number of others approaching as well, the dogbots practially baying. Suddenly, its mouth lights up, and a massive blast engulfs your viewpoint for several seconds as some warning chirps sound out. Some diagnostics start to appear on your screen, in the lower left hand corner…

>Rear chassis damage:10%

“Danger. Friendly fire engaged.’”

“They aren’t friendly, honestly…” you mutter to yourself. You wouldn’t last long if all of them start firing on you. And you’re not exactly the fastest thing ever right now. AND you don’t want to exactly know what happens if a body dies while you're still in it.

“Great, what do I want to do here…?”

“‘Want to?’” Sigh.

Keep the shields pointed at as many of them as possible while continuing to wreck things with the cannons, hopefully obscuring sight lines and such in the process.
>>

Writing!
>>
>>2397343
“...Bah, screw it.” the next thing you hit is the ceiling, one of your cannons targeting the space between you and the oncoming bots. It's kind of like using your own abilities, even, and that makes things just feel a little bit more natural.

The actual shot isn't exceptionally powerful, but it's good enough to cause a decent sized hole in the ceiling and cause a large chunk of it to fall down, as well as a whole lot of debris and dust, masking them from you- and likely you from them.

Another shot is fired, impacting you're right front leg, and yeah. You need to begin a fighting retreat. The steps you take are big and plodding, but they do at least cover a bit of distance.
Already you can hear further shouts and alarms starting to go off, and-

“ATTENTION, ALL ATTENDEES. THERE IS AN EMERGENCY SITUATION IN THE UNDERGROUND AREA. ALL GUESTS AND EMPLOYEES SHOULD EVACUATE IMMEDIATELY.” The loud announcement comes through even to you, and another salvo of blasts come your way, although you manage to actually block them with the giant shields in front of you. This is gonna get out of hand pretty quickly, but you know full well that your escape route might not be entirely stable…

“‘Dangerous scenario. Allied individuals attempting sustained fire. Inquiry logged to be presented later-’”

“They’re shooting at us because they think we’re a threat!” you yell in annoyance as you finally take a massive, single step around the corner. Just a couple more to go...

“Allied individuals were briefed on all personnel...misunderstanding?”

Ugh. “They’re doing it because that’s what they decided on!” You need to figure out whether to keep this up or not.

Okay, hold on just a second there. “Reclassifying? Reclassifying what?”

“Allied and defensive parameters. Allied units unknown. Protective parameters unknown. Heavy data corruption. Attempting to restore.”

“Okaaay...what are they going to, then? What are you doing?!” If he suddenly starts turning into a murderbot, that's going to get very very bad, very very quickly.

There's a pause, and for some reason it's one that makes you a touch uneasy.

“...Not sure.” Huh. When it responded...it’s voice is...different? Not deeper, but...gruffer? “...But they are not my allies anymore.” Weird. You’d thought this one didn’t have as much personality as the others. Suddenly, there’s a shift in lighting, and you look back at the glowing blob thing...no, yeah. It’s...a lot more solid now. And less read, more pinkish/white.

Unfortunately, that doesn't help you stave off of the firepower that's attempting to bring this thing down, but, it's shields seem to be holding for the time being. There’s a lot of shots fired, though, and it's hard to see anything else at the moment.

Knocking out the weapons, even temporarily, allows it to continue to be a distraction after we leave it to its business without actually killing people. If we can't figure it out relatively quickly though, we should just cut and run when we can still blend into the fleeing crowds.

Already you're trying to focus on *not* using any of the cannons at all. That you can shut them down, forget about them, make them as though they don't exist for you for a while. You don't know what he's going to do with them, but you don't want him to do anything too hasty.

Not to mention, you're kind of hoping that you can see just what's going on with him now that really really wasn't there earlier.

It's hard to tell if you got it for a moment- before suddenly you feel a strange gap in your head. as though there was just nothing there for a moment. You’re not sure, but that might be it…

“My cannons. You disabled my cannons.” There it is again, that strange gruffness. When’d that get there? “That’s impolite.”

“Well, sorry?” you ask. “I didn’t want to just rescue southern starting shooting everyone. That’ll just make things harder for me!”

“Why’s that?” he asks.

“Why are you suddenly so chatty and normal?” you find yourself firing back. Geez, you don’t know how long this can last- suddenly, another shot shakes your feed.

>Rear chassis damage: 22%

Well, shoot. “Not sure. You showed up, then things started getting...strange. Something wasn’t functioning right, but it wasn’t functioning wrong, either. Couldn’t fix it. Some code changed. Then it disappeared, but I'm still functioning fine, I think. Now it is what it is. Kinda want to know why. The concept of curiosity is kinda new to me.” Well, that’s great. Join the club. “Also, I’m not sure, but I don’t think I want you in here anymore. I wonder how I can get you out...”

Say we were just calming down a bit and suddenly EXPLOSIONS everywhere or something. We ran for the exit and on the way "found Prima looking for her user". But because shit was getting Dangerous Real, we made her come with us.

Try to get Prima to play up the distressed-bot-missing-their-user schtick a bit.

This if it seems reaesonably possible in the situation.

But I think we should get Prima inside our handy haversack (in privacy) instead of splitting up for a time, as in there there's no chance of anyone spotting her and connect dots

You have just enough time to whisper a hurried ‘Hide!’ to Prima as you toss the bag to her. She scampers out of the way, behind the door and dropping a bit behind the small set of stairs nearby, before you plaster a shocked look on your face and spin around. “Kyo?! Is that you?” Duh, of course it is.

“We've been looking all over for you!” The idiot hero says as he runs up to you. Are you okay?”

“Tops, mate,” Jago grinds out. “Asides from all the booms, and the panic, and the yellin’!”

“I was just trying to calm down from earlier,” you say in a panicked state, “And I fell asleep, and the next thing I know when I wake up…” Hand motions were always so helpful and adding a little authenticity to this kind of stuff.

And of course he buys it. Dumb kid. “Right, don’t worry! You’re almost out! Come on, through here!” and then he grabs your arm, and tugs you along as another, much louder rumble echos through the arena. Geez, just what is that bot getting up to?

Fortunately, there's no one around the docks, though you have to weave around a number of large semi trucks, and avoid some falling debris.

Fortunately, soon enough you’ve made it clear of the stadium, Kyo panting a bit in exertion while you do the same to keep up appearances. “Man...glad I found you. We were worried out there!” he says with a smile. You just shrug, and in a spark of inspiration, hug him.

“Thanks SO much!” you offer, even though he really didn’t do anything. Better to let and think you did. Not to mention, it gives you a bit better look at Zero. He’s looking back at the stadium, but you’re not sure what he’s seeing...

“C’mon, we should get back to the others!” Kyo says cheerfully, and you…

> “Oh...okay!” Prima should be able to take it from there, right? Just a quick order, and maybe a message to King...

Need to keep a eye on the main cast maybe we can get Zero to not suspect us and he will be forced to stay with Kyo.

I think we should keep a eye on the main cast and just send a message to Prima keep going. Zero must know about the part and suspect that this is more then it looks like and i don't want him suspecting Himawari.

i like to imagine that part with Lori doing the same thing as pic related. Himawari is tottaly this universe Uraraka

We also need some disguises for both of our bots if we're gonna be keeping this facade up.
>>
>>2399350
Both? Well i'm pretty sure Mr. King can give us some new frames. Or we can buy other frames ourselfs. So far Prima and us have being sufficient to pull the jobs and Himawari and Jago do de undercover work.

“O-okay!” Dangit. If Zero’s suspicious, then this would be the fastest way to throw him off. Not to mention everyone else. You should be able to just get a message to Prima and hopefully your boss, and then they can handle things from there.

“Right! Let’s go!” you allow yourself to be let away by the hand, and you quickly regroup with the others, who seem to be rather relieved that you're safe. Miyumi is livid in particular, having had been kept updated on situation via phone as it had unfolded.

There’d been a ring of people watching her ‘discuss’ things with her people as she ranted and railed about the indignity of one of their bots having an issue while doing her best show routine, but the second she hung up everyone was quick to do their best impressions of owls.

At the very least, it gave you an opening to fire off a pair of messages- one to Prima to tell her to rendezvous back at the tower, and the other to your employer to tell him that the deed was done and that Prima would be coming back shortly.

While some people were interested in just what had happened to have you trapped in there, the truth ended up boring them a little bit, and you even had some fun poked at you about how sleepy you are...though Kyo and the others were quick to defend you, at least. Even Jago had needled you!

The VIP battlers, as it turned out, have been summoned to the scene shortly after you evacuated and had helped in attempting to subdue the rogue Gargant. They apparently were successful, but you hadn't heard about anything else beyond that. As for the tournament itself? It would be continued tomorrow, apparently, with the exhibition ‘cancelled due to scheduling issues’.

Yeah, hard to show the legs off when the legs aren’t THERE.

It’s as the crowd is dispersing that you find yourself approached by Zero of all bots. “Yo.”

“Hm?” You’d hoped that you’d convinced him by now…

“You see anything weird in there? ‘Sides the crazy bot, I mean.” Oh? “I swear I saw someone familiar…”

> “Nope. Nothing.” You don’t even want him getting a hint.
> “Well, I saw a bot that I’d seen earlier; I pointed it to the way out.” Not technically a lie.

The easiest lies to keep up are those that align with the truth.
>>
>>2399444
Half truths are always the best lies.
>>
>>2399409
“Well, I saw a bot that I’d seen earlier,” you admit. “I pointed it to the way out.” Not technically a lie. You’d seen Prima earlier, and you’d directed her to where the exit was. Just that you were going with her until they futzed it up.

He leans in, suddenly interested. “Didja get a good look at it?”

You pretend to be surprised, jerking back slightly. “Uh...kinda? I just remember it was blue.”

“Blue, huh…” Zero backs off a bit, thinking about it. “Alright. Thanks.”

“Why do you ask?” you inquire; although you're pretty sure, it would be good to have some sort of confirmation.

“Well...something important got taken from Kyo’s grandpa the other day. I thought I'd seen who took it, but I wasn't sure.” He folds his arms, his expression set in what would otherwise be a frown. “We need to get it back asap.”

“Oh...I’m so sorry,” you offer. “I hope you find it soon. It must be important to you to go to all this trouble.” He’s never getting it back, though.

“Yeah, thanks.” He turns, and walks away, and you breath a sigh of relief. Finally, you can get back and discuss what’s next…

“The arms,” King says once you ask him that very question when you get back. The legs are in front of him, and he’d taken a few minutes to...well...frankly, it look like to you he was holding himself back from doing some sort of happy dance. Or at least cheering like a loon. “They SHOULD be being held in Yuri Stadium at Blossom City for the next round...but with the schedule slipping thanks to that little debacle...more direct action may have to be taken.”

Hm? “Direct action?”

He nods. “I’ll have to make a few calls to be sure, but I wouldn't be surprised if they decided that the rest of the parts were in danger as well and decided to keep them under lock and key. If that’s the case, then this may be both a blessing and a curse. A chance to steal them all in one fell swoop- but in an area that’s much more heavily guarded.” He leans back, clearly deep in thought. “Hmm…perhaps I could throw my weight around a bit...”

> “Might be best. Less security I have to deal with, the better.”
> “Actually, let them circle the wagons. I can get in anywhere.”

While Lorelei is good at infiltrating, she can easiy get into real trouble if her cover is blown, and usually in missions there's way too many unkown factors, so minimizing that risk is key.

As much as the idea of taking them all at once is tempting, you don't want to run the risk of everything going to pot if your cover gets blown. “Might be best. Less security I have to deal with, the better.”

He nods in understanding. “I’ll see if I can strong arm them to continue as they are. I can make no promises, however. Also, I'm going to want you to stay on the premises for a day or two, just to be certain of things.”

That’ll have to be good enough... But as for what you're going to be doing in the meantime... You're going to have to do some research, and probably a bit of training. “Not a problem!” you say, bravado leaking back into your tongue again. “Now that I know what's going on, I can get a bit more creative! I’ll dazzle them with my brilliance!”

And it's actually kind of true. You’ve at least got an idea of what's waiting for you, and you doubt that things are going to be extremely different between the stadiums. The next theft...it shouldn’t be nearly as troublesome.

Should be a lot more FUN, though!

Now, though, the question is. What are you going to do for the next few days while things cool down and Mr. King sets up?

>Actions?

(Think I’ll start another thread in about an hour. Need a breather.)
>>
>>2399746
A new thread would be cool.

1. Acquire new parts for Jago and give Prima a new undercover paint
2. Have Jago and Prima play in a mock battle so she can analize his weak spot and we can manage to make it go away
3.Do some research about the other VIP's and what their bots are like
4. Have some trainning both commanding Jago and Prima in battles. Maybe ask to use a spare bot to be punching bags?
5. Rest and recover your mana

And i can't thing of anything else.
>>
>>2399763
Oh i remembered

6. Give jago a drone parrot
>>
>>2399763
We dont need battles to analyze weak spots, Prima can do that by looking
>>
>>2399746
We should not forget our pain in the back, those kids.
We should hang out with them, toy with them, and try to dash any suspicions thrown our way.

If we appear as a normal person that doesn't just disappear from the spotlight, maybe... well yeah.
>>
>>2399791
Uh if she can do that grabbing some footage of the VIP's we saw in the tournament might be usefull since she could analyse what their weak spots are.

Also you guys think we should train having some bots figthing us? To see if we can take one ourselfs?
