Character info pastebin in progress: http://pastebin.com/iB0tb7rz
Dice odds for best of 3: http://pastebin.com/994WTT3g

General rules:

There is a 10 minute voting period after each post. Non-contradictory votes will be combined as best as possible.
Write-ins for all votes are always welcome and encouraged. They may not all make it into the post or be altered to fit in, but I'll do my best to at least try to address the spirit of the write-in.

Very important or contentious votes may be redone in a stricter voting system as circumstances warrant.

Combat mechanics involve three rolls of 1d100, taking the best, and using the base accuracy and crit ranges of the the PTU system, roughly, but the 'turn order' will be more like the anime, where sometimes you can do a few moves in a row or be hit by a combo of moves yourself, all depending on circumstances. Stronger moves tend to take more time and have more cooldown than weaker moves and also may leave you open to an interrupt, so beware of that timing. Speed is more important for closing ground, intercepting, and other things and doesn't necessarily mean going first.

Pokemon and trainers are unique, and may have certain specializations, skills, or other things that the video-game mechanics might not allow. Some examples: That kung fu Bellsprout in the anime, that crystal Onix, or a Roggenrolla that can fly. Herb's perception skills, pokemon knowledge, context clues in general, and other things will hopefully come into play to avoid completely unfair, unforeseeable bullshit, but expect more bullshit from more advanced trainers.

Call me out on a mistake and receive a suggestive picture, mostly likely a butt.

Pokemon:
Gobble (Munchlax)
Mace (Roggenrola)
Belladonna (Roserade)
Dice (Croconaw)
Sorbet (Vulpix)

Location: A mystery cabin you found in the fading daylight. You don't know what island

Recently: You found your way into a hidden Normal type temple/home, earned the trust of the resident/priest, and spent the night.

You look at the old man. There’s an intensity in his eyes that wasn’t there before. A sober and piercing gaze.

“I’ve got a lot of figuring out who I am.”

“You’re your habits, young man.” He shoots back without wasting a second. The quick and cutting way he fired that off jars you a little after your first impression of him. “You already know who you are.”

It sounds like both a compliment and an insult. Like he thinks you’re making excuses for something.

“I’m going to meet my friends at the ranch.” You tell him. “But would it be okay to come visit again sometime?”

“If you do that, I’ll put you to work.” He warns playfully.

“The least I could do to repay you is helping around your house a bit.” You’re no good with this sort of conversation. You really do want to pay him back.

“Sure kid. Any time you want to come on by, you know where the key is.”

Oh! That’s right! You mareepishly hand it over. “Right. Sorry. That’s how I got in. Want me to put it back under the rock?”

He looks at it. “That’s where you found it, huh? You know what? Keep it. I never lose mine and I know how kids like you are. If I give you the key, you’ll feel more obligated to actually come back and not just say you will.” His voice tells you he’s both kidding but also not really.

“Thanks. And I will!” You say, putting the key away. Gobble helps emphasize your point with a fist in the air. He always likes playing as your hype man. “Umm, would it be alright to bring friends?”

He laughs. “You bring those three from your call and yourself, and you’ll double my congregation. You looking to take over my temple or something?” He laughs, then his eyes show him getting lost in thought. “Sure. Well, goodbye. Be careful on the seas. Remember; you control nothing except for yourself, and even then not entirely.”

He bows.

Let me be clear though, I don't think that's something to pursue right now. We still haven't even visited all the temples. But if things keep going the way they are, I can see Herb being involved in at least helping to restore the normal temple's status.

“Can you tell me more about what’s between the Ghost and Normal temple?”

He sighs. “Got all day? Nah, you’ve got those pretty girls waiting and even I’m not brave enough to stand between you too long. But here’s the short version; They worry so much about preparing for the next life that they’re not here in this one! What you need to become a priest here is life experience! You get perspective out there. You meet different people, learn to adapt to real life, and that helps you run a temple and be full of good advice for those that come to you. Our tokwei,” he waves his hand as he thinks of how to translate that for you, our ‘jurisdiction over moments of time’ are in the everyday moment. All less powerful times, sure, but that’s the bulk of life. Their tokwei is in death, -though some of them claim it’s also in the process of dying, which is preposterous because that’s all time-, and they train their poor acolytes in some secluded temple and all end up with warped views of the world because of it. They never live! No sense for the common person or common pokemon because all they see are grand designs and the finality of death.”

“How could the two temples get along?” You blurt out, not sure if that’s too far of a question.

He shrugs. “You’ll have to ask them. You don’t see me bothering their temple, do you? No need for it. We all have our role in it, even if they don’t see it that way.”

Your pokedex buzzes. He gives a facial express telling you to answer it and get on with your day. You bow and depart, leaving anything unsaid or undone for next time.

You quickly send a message to the girls with where you want to meet with as much detail as possible. The Pokedex shuts off almost immediately after. It does reboot with some power after a bit of smacking and sweet-talking, though.

You and Gobble walk side-by-side, enjoying the bright morning sunshine. The soft, ill-traveled footpath is worn down but somehow looks better that way. There are only sparse small houses around here. You double check the next road sign and sigh in relief at the arrow with a happy Miltank confirming you’re going to the ranch.

Gobble chases a butterfly, but gives up quickly. You think it’s for the best, that probably isn’t something he should eat.

Gobble comes back to your side and reaches up to hold your hand.

Hey Gobble:

If you want to add some stuff that nobody's really expecting, try pulling ideas from the Pokemon TCG. There are lots of things, especially items, that I think really add a lot of cool ideas to the series.

For instance, the Pokemon TCG has several methods of De-evolving pokemon. Flareon, Jolteon, and Vaporeon can do it to themselves, Mew has a move that can do it to enemies, and there's a potion-like devolution spray as well.

My chain of logic is that:
1: Aura can replicate pokemon moves.
2: Devolution Beam is a canon move.
3: Science can replicate things it knows to exist
4: The irreversible nature of evolution is a major stressor for pokemon and trainers.

The ability to de-volve pokemon would be a huge boon for Herb's ability to let his pokemon live whatever kind of life they want to lead without worry.

Plus, if Herb's potential unlocking is like Mega-evolution, and Mega-evolution involve devolving, Herb has an in.

And even in anime/game canon, Slowbro can devolve, so it's not completely unheard of.

Even if this isn't a route we pursue (though I think it's one we should look into) other TCG items (like the crystal that makes the pokemon holding it into a normal type) would make for cool surprises.

You enjoy the walk with Gobble. He occasionally runs ahead to check out a bush or point out something in the distance. His energy really lasts though, despite the excitement of the last few days. Maybe he learned Rest after all, if he’s so refreshed. Of course, there’s another element to it too. There’s no pressure or worries on this walk. Just the two of you exploring a path together like good friends.

It’s a nice morning.

He stops and points ahead. There’s everyone!

“Herb!” Hana stands there awkwardly for a moment, then runs at you in a full sprint. She tackles you, wrapping heavy metal legs around you. Her arms hug you tight and the two of you fall. You brace to hit the ground but find she’s protecting you. “Heh. Metal legs and arm, remember? I won’t let anything happen to you again.”

“I’m glad you’re okay, too.” You say into her very close face. Not that you mind. She rests her forehead on yours, stealing a quiet moment.

“Hey buttholes. Some of us can’t run that fast.” Abigail yells, catching up. She’s right. Your pokemon are all playing catch up.

Mace comes in so hot that Gobble has to catch him. Dice comes and knocks the two of them over. Bella crawls over Hana’s head and onto yours, not quite understand how much bigger she is now. Sorbet seems cautious of you at first, but once confirming that it’s you with some sniffing and closer looks, she brushes against you and seems to stay stuck to your side.

Abigail and Laki are still pretty far. Looks like Abigail is dragging Laki by the hand.

“She uh, had a bit to drink after our call last night.” Hana explains. “And more this morning. She seems pretty messed up about the L word. I.... I’ll shut up. I shouldn’t get involved.”

With her chest pressed against yours you can feel her rapid heartbeat and notice the sweat forming on her brow. Despite the metal parts, she still has a part in running. More than that though, you can tell how much she’s pushing herself to be ‘out there’ right now. Normally Hana is a lot more reserved in public. Of course, right now you don’t see any strangers or strange pokemon so that might be helping.

“Well, I meant it.” You tell Hana. “I love you both.”

A wide open, toothy smile explodes onto her face, followed by a wholesome and innocent peck on the cheek. Then the lips. Then she gives you another quick one. Then one that lingers a little longer. He mouth opens and she gives you a deep kiss, and even a subtle but yearning grind.

“Heh. Sorry. It’s been the longest I’ve gone in forever and I’m going a little crazy.” She shyly brushes her hair and looks away. “So, y’know. If you’re feeling it sometime this morning and want to sneak away for a quick-”

“Shoft handjs!” Laki mumbles. For someone so fit, she can’t handle her alcohol at all. Abigail, who was leading her by the hand, is now being dragged by Laki like a toy doll. “You-” She hiccups. “You schcared me!”

Hana leaps off of you in an instant, dying of embarrassment.

You scratch behind your head. “Heh. Yeah, I was scared for you guys too. But I’m glad everyone’s okay.”

“I didn’t think about that!” Laki says like you just discovered something. “You were scared too! And scared people say crazy stuff. I did. We all do!” She takes your head and rests it on her chest. “It’s okay. Laki’s here. I’ll take care of you.”

But you guess Laki didn’t even think about poor Abigail. When she pulls you in, the small redhead is yanked into your back, sandwiching you.

“This counts as a hug.” Abigail mutters into your back. “And because I babysat her, we’re even for me spooking Wailord, got it?”

“No more blame gamesh, remember?” Laki boops Abigail on the nose. “We have a Soft Handsh, a Gooble,” She bends down and boops ‘Gooble’ on the nose, “and we can pick up Moomoo milk before going home. Everything izzz back to normal.”

Not sure what the reaction is going to be, but I guess we need more information sometime on why this bent her out of shape so much and drunken Laki might drop some tidbits of information. Going full-on private conversation doesn't seem right in these circumstances, though.

Abigail tries to escape and you try to re-adjust so you can actually talk. Laki yanks both of you back in. You find yourself face-to-face with Abigail, pressed into Laki’s chest.

“This is disturbingly comfy.” Abigail says, letting none of that sentiment show on her face or in her tone.

“Sorry about this.” You apologize for Laki.

Her eyebrows furrow. At least, you think they do. It could also just be how her face is getting squished. “Don’t talk to me like an outsider.”

“That’s not how I meant it.” You quickly try to assure her.

“Yeah huh. Have fun with this.” Abigail struggles and squeezes away to face Laki. “Herb’s got something to say about his feelings for you.:

Laki looks startlingly sober for a moment. Then she laughs. “He’s feeling a mouthful of boob.”

Abigail gets fed up with being held and bites Laki on the boob, seemingly taking inspiration from Laki’s words. Laki lets you both go with some quick reflexes and grumbling.

“I love you.” You tell Laki, catching your breath. You get ready to head off to the ranch and let her chew on that information. Process it in her own time. You hope.

She stares blankly for a moment. There's no escape from this. “Psh. Shhhhphlp! Wha...” She stutters for a moment. “Come on. You- I mean, it’s not that I-.”

Gardevoir suddenly vanishes using Teleport. A shocked silence hangs over the group.

“Where’d...where’d she go?” Hana asks.

“Gardevoir picks up the strongest emotions from whoever’s feeling them around us.” Abigail says pointedly at Laki. “So what exactly were you feeling just now?”

Laki looks down. “Scared.”

Being scared is a normal reaction. Comitment can be scary especialy if you have fears about giving up on what you want or of screwing everything up. Which Laki has in spades. Also Laki has kind of been taking the lead on progressing the relationship up to now, usually by joking about something and Herb just strait up agreeing to it and rising to the challenge. This is the first time Herb took the offensive.
>>
>>2357785
It's an idea.
>>
The word stings, and fills you with some fear yourself. “Scared?” You can’t quite meet her eyes.

“It’s just...not something I throw around lightly. I’m not saying you’re doing it, I’m just...” She gives Abigail and Hana a look that means for them to go away. Hana doesn’t pick it up and Abigail chooses to ignore it. Laki gives up, seemingly more concerned with you.

“I didn’t mean to scare you.” You try to sound reassuring. “I’m not trying to propose or anything. If this is going too fast-”

“See? That’s exactly it. Love, to me, is that. Proposals, babies, the whole thing. Are you telling me you want that? You’re entirely committed to that life right now?” She puts a finger on your lip before you can answer. “Soft Hands. I don’t know if you picked up on this, but I...I’m very drunk. You say yes and I’ll make you prove it. Okay?” She looks to Hana and Abigail. “So let’s all take a step back, have some water and bust open those salty snacks, and be happy things are back to normal.” She laughs, helping herself to some of that water. “Because, oh boy, would I scare you off.” The laugh goes from boisterous to having a dash of maniacal and crazy thrown in.

You smile, backing down. “Okay. Okay everyone. Let’s grab some snacks, get Gardevoir, and then go check out that ranch, okay? Quick break.”

“Wow.” Abigail mouths to you silently as she walks by. She makes it sound like you just narrowly decided not to challenge a Taurus to a headbutting contest.

“Heh.” Laki stumbles forward. “Schmart Herby-birb. I would have trapped you gooooooood.” She looks to Hana. “No worries on your end. We’d’a kept you too. I-” hic “I like you a lot, robot girl. You’re...I admire you.”

You embrace Laki in a hug, to which Hana stands around outside awkwardly until Laki pulls her in.

“Woah! Drunken honesty!” Abigail shoots up again. “What about me?”

“You’re a mouthy little shit.” Laki says over your shoulder.

You don’t see it, but you hear Abigail make a very rude gesture behind your back.

“But you don’t back down. I like that.” Laki mumbles.

You and the group take a quick break. You and Gobble devour a lot of the snacks, Laki chugs the water. Hana is hanging off your side, along with Sorbet who seems to be surprisingly attached to you now. You guess she got scared.

“Intense stuff.” Hana keeps both hands firmly on your arm and gestures to Laki off by the tiny creek with her head. “But I think it went well.”

“I hope so.” You say.

She snuggles into your arm. “I like where things are, and where things are going.”

“Me too.”

You share a nice few quiet minutes. After some time, Hana starts drawing patterns on your chest with her finger. “We probably have a few more minutes if you want to b-”

Laki begins to barf. The sound carries surprisingly well from here. Abigail goes to help her.

“Think she’s okay?”

“She needs to get it out of her system.” Hana says, not uncaring. “Give her like ten minutes and she’ll be fine. And in ten minutes, we could-”

Gardevoir returns from the bushes. Seemingly homing in on you and Hana. She just wordlessly snuggles against your other side.

“Gardevoir!” You laugh at how silly she’s being, mimicking Hana.

“Join or go away?” She asks Hana, who didn’t say anything.

Hana’s face changes from focused to alarmed. She flashes you a funny smile, sighs, and pulls you up with a sense of giving up. “Welp, we should grab Laki and get moving.”

The group heads off towards the barn, with all your pokemon, minus Gobble, sticking very close.

You arrive at the ranch in no time at all. Turns out it was just around the corner. You pass by a few barns and a few Miltank in the field. One is off by itself, chewing without much effort or enthusiasm and letting a lot of food just fall from its mouth. An Arcanine rests its head on it’s paws in the middle of the field, eyeing you without moving it’s head and apparently being satisfied that you’re not threatening it’s herd. Sorbet sticks very close to you when she sees it.

“Welcome welcome.” A large rancher greets you as they load up a hay barrel. “Here for our island-famous moo-moo milk?”

Man a milktank would be perfect for Herb, but I can't violate the repeat typings rule
>>
>Ask about that weird Miltank
>>
>>2358182
I agree. It's either go full no-repeats or do a monotype for me. If we're still doing pokemon quests after this one (And I absolutely do have the interest for it) I'm going to lobby hard for "Bug catcher" at character creation. Or a normal ace. A team with Chansey, Miltank, Tauros, Ditto, Dunsparce, and Smeargle for instance would be incredible.
>>
>>2358182
I don't know. I feel gobble films that niche for us.

Apropos of nothing I'd like Herb to get a Hitmonchan and have it learn different boxing styles to compete with Jane's Hitmonlee.
>>
>>2358110
>“Join or go away?” She asks Hana, who didn’t say anything.
Oh, Hana
>>
>>2358197
I love ever single one of those normal choices, except I'd maybe swap the dunsparce for a phys tank normal.

>>2358241
Oh he totally does, besides some cleric moves milktank can learn. I was just musing. If I had to pick a fighting type for us I'd pick Mienshao
>>
>>2358197
Haven't been involved at all today but if we're speculating for a potential next quest my interest would be for a character all about powering through problems.

Super-combative as well. Not Jane-level paranoid but maybe anger-issues with an affinity for fire and fighting types.
>>
>>2358265
That'd be fun. Be nice to play as a very direct character.
>>
>>2358265
I'd honestly like to be the Gary to another mc. I think it'd be interesting to be the sweaty tryhard to someone whose naturally talented.
>>
>>2358273
Come to think of it, easiest way to put it would be an anti-Herb.

I've played something tangentially similar in a text based RP but that was a fencer who'd lost functionally everything. Very controlled and disciplined if impulsive.

I'm talking full-blown will throw a punch as soon as a poke ball character issues though for next quest.
>>
>>2358262
Dunsparce is my favorite. Coil, roost, drill run, body slam, serene grace.

>>2358265
I'm really interested to see what would have happened if we chose "weird" at character creation this time around. Or a researcher would be cool too.

“Yes sir!” You tell the man. “As much as I can carry. I’m a bit of a foodie and after trying it in pancakes I’ve just got to try it in other stuff.”

He laughs. “Pancakes, huh? You a friend of old Alu?” He motions towards the direction you came from.

“You mean at the Normal type t-”

He suddenly bursts into a coughing fit, loudly interrupting you until you stop talking. Even you can’t ignore that hint.

“Anyway, besides the milk, I wanted to ask about that Miltank. It looked really relaxed.”

“Catatonic is more like it.” He says. “She just hasn’t been the same lately. I tried talking to her. Checked around to see if there were predators around, but Arcanine hasn’t found anything unusual.”

“Would you mind if we used you to talk to it?” Abigail asks Gardevoir.

“I would not mind.” Her otherworldly voice.

“JUMPIN’ J-” He drops the hay and half hides behind it. “Did that pokemon just talk?”

Gardevoir keeps quiet this time, seemingly started. She slowly retreats behind Laki.

“Oh yeah. She talks.” Abigail says matter-of-factly.

“Are you the kind of farmer that lets trainers work for food?” Laki asks, with the slightest slur. She's a lot better since barfing but still pretty out of it.

He keeps one eye on Gardevoir and re-adjusts his gloves. “Well, I’m a rancher, not a farmer, and no, not normally. But I have to admit I could use the help. Tell you what. You fix or figure out what spooked Miltank, dig me a new line of fence post holes, and fix that barn door and each of you walks away with as much milk as you and your pokemon can carry.”

Laki grins from ear to ear. “I have a Wailord.”

“As much as each of you humans can carry.” He quickly corrects.

Hana is about to say something but Abigail leaps to cover her mouth. “Deal! Gardevoir and I will handle Miltank.”

Laki stretches. “I’ll fix the barn door.”

“I can handle the holes.” Hana says.

The farmer, for the first time, actually assesses the group. “You sure you’re up for that?”

“My dad’s a carpenter.” Laki says, flexing a muscle. She looks and sounds so sober! As soon as she walks past him she immediately drops the act and almost trips over nothing.

“I can dig.” Hana says. “Any manual labor, I’m your girl.”

“Okay.” He sounds skeptical. “I’m assuming you’ve got strong pokemon or Diglets or something. Just don’t mess up the land, and make sure they’re deep.”

The group starts to walk deeper into the ranch. The rancher, like most Loanan’s seems very relaxed when it comes to strangers. To you and Hana it feels a little odd, but Abigail and Laki don’t see anything strange about it.

“Coming with me?” Hana asks. “It’s tough work. You might get all hot and sweaty and need to take your shirt off.”

“Sorry.” You tell her. “I’m afraid you’ll have to do that without me.”

Hana looks disappointed, but with a moment she gives you an understanding look. “I get it. You and Laki need to talk. Just remember I’m here if either of you need it.”

“Actually, I was going to help Abigail and Gardevoir.” You feel a bit guilty now. “I just figured that’s where my strengths are so...”

Hana’s blank for a second. “Right. Yeah. That makes sense. You just survived a harsh ordeal at sea. You shouldn’t be doing physical labor right now. We’ll get this taken care of quickly and then get you into bed for an early night’s rest. Or you know...whatever else is relaxing.”

Hana heads off to her job, and boy, is she giving it her all! She’s really got a lot of pent up energy.

You, Abigail, and Gardevoir go to see Miltank. It chews lazily, not picking up what falls out of the side of it’s mouth. Then it just stares off at nothing.

“Do your magic, Gardevoir.” Abigail says, poking the poor creature curiously.

“I am not magic. I’m psychic.”

“Just ask it what’s wrong.”

Gardevoir tries, but the pokemon is unresponsive.

You wave a hand in front of it’s eyes and it just stares at nothing. Abigail tries poking it harder. When she uses enough force, it does actually make a noise or move a little. It borders on needing to almost hurt it, though.

“Is it braindead?” Abigail asks.

“I wish I could understand it’s feelings.” You say. “Maybe it’s something psychological?”

“Ves, ves. Tell me about your relationship wiss your muzuh.” Abigail uses straw to imitate a mustache and beard.

You smile at her goofiness, then put one hand on your crystal and another on Miltank. If there’s an aura problem, you’ll definitely find it.

You search through a huge swirling vortex of emotions and experienced. Memories where you can’t see the details or specifics, but you can feel how Miltank felt about them. Experiences of joy, fear, hope, friendship. You try to make sense of it all. What’s recent? What’s not? What’s out of place?

But instead of what should be a relatively easy exercise for you at this point, you find yourself with an overwhelming stream of confusion.

You stumble backwards, back into the strange sensations of the real world.

“Woah! Misfire!” Abigail leaps back. “You alright?”

“Yeah.” You shake your head. “Just tired.” You feel like it could be a lot worse. You don’t even feel that tired, to be honest.

Abigail gives you a funny look. “Why don’t you take the day off? In fact, go set up camp, let us handle everything, and tomorrow, you just do nothing but rest as well.”

“Do I look that bad?” You ask, trying to keep it cheerful.

“Nah. I mean, not bad enough to keep Hana’s mitts off of you. But we’re getting worried. You push and push and anytime anyone anywhere needs help, you come running and put an hour’s worth of working into fixing five minute’s worth of problem.”

“What about Miltank? And I promised my pokemon I’d train them. And-”

“We’ll handle it.” She says, petting Sorbet. “Take the time off. Take today and tomorrow and don’t freaking worry about your girlfriends or pokemon or beautiful young charity cases or anyone else but yourself. Let us spoil you a little.”

Night Gobble.

What are your thoughts on a potential next quest?
>>
>>2358582
Honestly my questions right now are mostly about Gardevoir. For instance, how does she feel about Herb when Hana's not doing her thing? How tempted is Hana to push that envelope? How does Gardevoir feel about the way she feels about Herb sometimes?

Questions for you though...

What would have happened if we had neither "blue" nor the crystal?

What did the "You're weird. You weirdo you." option do during character creation?

Are Laki's views on love more of a cultural thing or a Laki thing?

Outside of physical attraction, how's Hana feeling about Laki?

[
>Honestly my questions right now are mostly about Gardevoir. For instance, how does she feel about Herb when Hana's not doing her thing?
Herb is a very bright light whose orbit she finds warmth in being in.

>How tempted is Hana to push that envelope?
Not very. It's mostly just a half joke in her mind right now, and that's unlikely to change.

>How does Gardevoir feel about the way she feels about Herb sometimes?
It's just viewing different perspectives.

>What would have happened if we had neither "blue" nor the crystal?
I really like this question. It's something I put a lot of thought into. I don't want there to be a harsh sudden disaster every time someone rolls a 1 out of three rolls, but I also don't want it to be wow_it_was_nothing.gif either. So I like the idea that it doesn't put you in danger; it puts you in danger of being in danger, with bad luck pushing that a little farther sometimes. Bad luck also includes a lot of other little things like starting an encounter at a disadvantage if no other factors are in play or just introducing an extra hurdle here or there. But that's a whole other subject and I'm rambling.

>What did the "You're weird. You weirdo you." option do during character creation?
Could have meant anything after we explored that character. I figure the reason would be created after getting to know them from their initial choices. Could have been just a 'resting weirdo face' to having a funny voice or legitimate social problems or something else.

>Are Laki's views on love more of a cultural thing or a Laki thing?
A bit of both, but more of a Laki thing in this case. Meeting her parents will probably illuminate that.

>Outside of physical attraction, how's Hana feeling about Laki?
Hana has always admired Laki as a cool older figure/huge ass haver. I don't even mean that ass thing in a sexual way this time either. I mean that from her point of view even down to pure physical beauty, Hana saw Laki as basically the perfect example of the ideal woman. I don't mean to say that Hana has some fanatical devotion to Laki, I just mean that in her mind, Laki and "perfect" have the same meaning when describing certain things

Hana is a pretty pessimistic/down-to-earth person when it comes to other people. She's been in the hospital enough to know how gross the human body gets and that everyone has one, and that dignity can be disturbingly fleeting to anyone. So Hana isn't very prone to getting disillusioned with getting to know how flawed Laki is as a person. Seeing Laki vulnerable and up close just helps Hana come to understand the world a bit better, but not leave her any more jaded as a person.]

Gobble (Munchlax)
Mace (Roggenrola)
Belladonna (Roserade)
Dice (Croconaw)

“Yeah.” You concede. “Maybe you’re right.”

“I’m always right, Herb.” She flashes a friendly but smug smile. “I’ll tell the others. You go rest.”

You take her advice. It feels terrible, leaving others to do all the work while you take it easy, but you guess if they’re speaking up about it, you’re helping them relax by just taking care of yourself.

“Thanks.”

“What are friends for?” She says sweetly before turning back to Miltank. She pokes it some more, as if she’ll poke out the answer from the poor animal.

You give Abigail some rough directions to where you’re setting up camp and leave. You still feel that lingering sense of guilt as you and your pokemon gather up some firewood and lay out your sleeping bag. You guess there really isn’t that much you can do since you don’t have your own tent.

With everything in place, you debate how much you want to do. You feel like cooking, but you’re a bit short on food so whatever you make will require more skill and attention than usual. Gobble seems eager to help, but he’s also had an exhausting adventure along with you. Still, he’s in better shape than you are. Maybe the two of you could work together to make dinner. Or maybe it’s best to wait for the girls and let them handle it. Gobble seems a little distracted since Sorbet is always at your side now. She isn’t doing much else differently, but she just always makes sure that she’s next to you.

“Let’s make a meal, Gobble.” You tell him. “But I’m afraid I’ll have to ask you to do most of the work. And it’ll be a little tricky.”

He shoots up at the chance, startling Sorbet and Mace.

“Okay, okay. Just get everything together first and then we’ll start. I want to call Keira before we get to work.” Your mind settles on what you saw while meditating. She was asking for guidance and that snake-like aura was approaching her, probably looking to get up to some sort of trickery. But when she saw your presence, you wonder if that was just a vision or if it really happened.

You call her up. Your pokedex power readings flicker randomly. You hope it’s mostly fine.

“Herb!” Her joyful voice answers. And equally excited face appears a second later. “That’s twice!”

“Twice?”

“I’ve been praying for guidance, and both times you’ve appeared.” She says, almost laughing.

“You were praying just now? Sorry. I didn’t mean to interrupt.”

“I think the spirits are trying to tell me something.” Her voice carries a slightly tinny sound. “The first time was a lot more obvious, but as one of the priestesses told me; the spirits get impatient when you fail to notice what they’re telling you.”

“So you saw me last night?” You say, trying to keep an eye on Gobble as he preps.

“Yeah huh! It’s the craziest thing, too. You had this weird Normal type energy all around you. I don’t know what it means, but Herb, I’m starting to think you were sent here for a reason.”

“You might not know it yet, but you must have been guided.” She says.

“I didn’t really feel any other presences or anything when I made the choice o reach out to you. But I’m still starting out.” You say, completely open to the idea that you’re just an amatuer at this sort of thing and you have no idea what is or isn’t possible.

“Then maybe it was your own choice, and you heard me personally.” She saw in a hushed tone.

“I think it was just coincidental timing.” You tell her. “And good luck, too. I think I startled that other spirit.”

“Other spirit?”

You can Keira talk at length about the encounter. The other spirit that it turns out she thought she felt but wasn’t sure, the way you appeared at just the right time to her, and aura in general. You catch up a bit on general things as well like the state of your pokedex and Polu, but she seems really focused on what she saw.

“I thought it could be a coincidence too, but then when I was asking about that, you called!” She says. “Herb, I don’t know if it’s real, but it really feels real. If I get another sign, then I think...I think...”

“Yeah?”

“Well I don’t know. But it’s big.”

The call cuts out just then. You whack the side of your pokedex to get it going again, but it only starts long enough to flash the low battery sign then die. You sigh. Well, at least you warned her about your pokedex.

You look up at Gobble. He’s got a pot of boiling water going and is holding some berries away from Dice, who ignores his warnings and continues to try to eat them from Gobble’s hand.

Wait, that’s not water. Gobble has a stew going. He started without you! And the ingredients he’s about to add, well, if that’s what you think it is, that’s a mistake. It won’t ruin the dish, but it’ll counteract the existing flavors and make it come out bland.

Gobble and Dice stop struggling over the food and both turn to you. They noticed you staring.

Dice doesn’t let it bother him one bit and goes for the food again. He’s not trying to be mean or spiteful, he just doesn’t seem to understand why Gobble is stopping him. Gobble gives him another quick shove; one that knocks him back and forces him to do a funny roll to avoid falling over, and is about to put the food into the pot. But he stops and looks up at you again.

“Second thoughts?” You ask gently. “How come?”

He waddles up close and shows you what he has, then motions for you to taste the pot. After you do so, you ask about what he added. You have a very limited set of ingredients and this seems to have an unknown taste to it.

“What else is in there?” You say. You have to rethink what you just assessed of his plan. Adding this in could be what ties it all together. Or he could just be putting random things in there.

Gobble throws up his hands defensively. He insists it’s nothing harmful, and takes back the ingredients to put them in after all. You watch, giving very sparse advice that mostly has to do with making sure he stirs to avoid burning and helping stabilize the impromptu stool he’s standing on.

When it’s done, he offers you the first sip. It’s mind blowing. The flavor explosion nearly knocks you off your feet. Maybe part of it is just how good everything tastes when you’re worn out, but there’s definitely also a huge part of this that is pure culinary art.

He’s proudly dishing it out. And just in time, the girl’s arrive.

“Herb! You shouldn’t be cooking! Rest!” Abigail swats at you and turns to the others. “Control your man!”

“I’m not. It’s all Gobble!” You defend yourself physically and otherwise.

“No wonder it smells so good.” Hana jokes, awkwardly half-laughing. Nobody else does, though. “Just kidding.” She says, meekly and apologetically.

You let it go. Hana seems a bit tense lately, like she’s been hinting at something you’re not getting. Plus she just worked a hard day’s labor. And Gobble really did make a great meal. “Gobble. This is amazing! Come on. Tell me, what’s the secret ingredient?”

Gobble, seeing everyone react so positively, finally shows you. It’s an empty can of beer.

“That’s where that went.” Laki comments, surprised, slightly offended, but mostly okay with the end result.

Gobble stole it. And he knows he did wrong. You can see it in his reactions.

“Good job on the food, buddy, but you need to ask next time, okay?”

He looks up, wondering if he should ask your or Laki.

“Whoever is around.” You tell him. For some reason, Laki seems to react well to hearing you say that. Like you just made a nice gesture.

Gobble will remember that.

“Seriously though. This meal.” You make a chef kissing gesture.

Abigail gives Gobble a kiss on the cheeks. “Kiss the chef!” She says, apparently quoting something. “You’re officially my second favorite pokemon.”

“You better forget that phrase the next time Soft Hands cooks.” Laki warns.

“It’s okay. You’re my favorite pokemon ever, Trubbish.” Abigail gives Laki a playful kiss on the cheeks and scrambles away from Laki’s angry claws.

The night wraps up fairly quickly. Laki and Hana both taking a bit of a dominant attitude with you saying how you need to relax tomorrow. Things feel mostly normal. Mostly. You can’t help but feel like there’s something different between you and Laki now. It could just be that she’s got a bit of a hangover or something, though. You decide not to let it bother you for now.

Hana snuggles into you as you go to sleep. Pokemon all seem to join and want in.

“I had a great birthday.” She whispers. Hana never had the most expressive face, but there's something about her eyebrows and certain gestures she makes that are so cute.

“I’m glad.” You aren’t sure why she’s bringing that up now.

“We haven’t...you know...since then.” She snuggles closer. Oh my. This tiny tent that Laki set up just barely contains you, the girls, and your pokemon. If someone evolves you might burst out of the sides. “I’m not blaming you or anything. It’s just, my arm doesn’t work the way it’s supposed to and you sort of let me get a taste of something better and now it’s like,” she makes a funny noise and face. “Kind of the longest I’ve gone without being able to solve it. Getting a bit crazy.”

Your eyes flicker in the struggle to keep your eyelids from slamming shut.

You glance around the tent. Everyone else seems to have fallen asleep, including Laki.

“I’m not trying to pressure you or anything. And I don’t want you to think this everything I’m about. I just thought that once we started, it’d become a daily or more often thing. I know I’m not the hottest girl around or anything, but-”

“Hana.”

“I’m just saying I’ve got knees that can’t get sore and a real enthusiasm for-”

“Hana.”

“And when I say I’m down for anything. I mean anything. Including-”

You interrupt with a kiss this time.

“Oh.” She says with surprise in her voice. The slightly impressed sound that follows with it helps put you in the mood a little more. “So does that mean...?”

“Yeah.”

That eager look on her face that springs up strokes your ego more than you’d like to admit. “Awesome!” She whispers. “Stay right here, I’ll get you started.”

Where else are you going to go? Where is she going? She just stuck her head under the blanket and-

Oh!

Afterwards, you have no trouble falling asleep. It wasn’t mind blowing, but the sneaky factor and how long it’s been made it quicker than you’d like to brag about, but you both feel pretty good about how things went.

You wake up very late. You have no idea what time it actually is, but the sunlight in the tent has made you a sweaty mess, minus the part of you facing towards Sorbet. That part is cool and comfy. Little ice crystals form around her.

You can hear the girls talking outside.

“Turns out Miltank got spooked by seeing a massive flying pokemon overhead at night. It came down, silent as could be, drank some water from over by the feeders, and took off. Scared Miltank half to death.”

“Lugia?” Hana whispers. “No!”

“I don’t know. But from the description, yeah.”

“So it was spooked?” Laki asks.

“That’s the thing. It gets messier. So the Miltank is scared to go near the feeding area, right?”

“So it had poor diet? Soft Hands could have fixed it with a home cooked meal?”

“Would you me finish? So right. Miltank isn’t eating it’s normal food, but it’s still hungry. It goes to the corner of the property and eats the plants there.”

“Where I was putting the fence?” Hana asks. “But there’s lots of vispum over there. It’s supposed to be really good for pokemon.”

(continued)
>>
>>2360492
“Guys!” Abigail shouts. “I’m telling the story! So, Miltank is eating all this vispum. Just nothing but the stuff. So it produces super milk, for awhile. Ranchers these days buy food with a small amount of Vispum additive for that exact reason. Eating it unprocessed isn’t as effective but when a Miltank just a diet consisting of almost nothing but the stuff, I guess it makes some really good milk.” Abigail pauses, waiting to see if anyone will interrupt.

Gobble seems to take this as an invitation to do so and pulls at her leg.

“No, I don’t have any of that batch on me.” She tells him. “It dried up. Turns out this particular Miltank has an allergy to the stuff. So as it’s pumping out this amazing milk, it’s slowly getting less and less healthy. Then it stops producing at all.”

“Will it be okay?”

“Oh yeah. I told the rancher and he’s getting special food for that one. Says she already looks a lot better after just a day.”

“Is it still scared?”

“A bit, but talking helped. I convinced it that if something that big and powerful wanted to harm it, staying at the far side of the ranch away from the watering hole won’t save it.”

“Abigail!” Hana says.

“Well what else was I supposed to tell it? It worked, didn’t it?”

“Sounds like you had your hands full but you really handled it.” You say, coming out of the tent. “Way to go.”

“Someone appreciates me around here.” Abigail gestures to you. “How are you feeling?”

“Good!” You say. “Refreshed.”

“Well too bad.” Laki says, sitting you down. “You’re still resting today. You better be on your butt or on your back unless I tell you otherwise, got it Soft Hands?”

You gulp. “Yes ma’am.”

The group laughs. The girls go about their business and leave you to do your thing for a bit. Laki and Hana inform you that there’s a nice creek nearby to wash up and to let them know when you’re ready. You guess that means you’re getting an escort.

“Val!” You shout to the screen as Valerie’s face appears.

“Herb!”

You catch up a bit, giving each other very brief versions of what you’ve been up to. She’s pretty surprised to hear your tale of shipwreck so soon after seeing her. “Can’t you guys get a boat?”

“Like, buy one?” You ask.

She nods. “It’d be a lot easier. And Wailord could still get exercise.”

You don’t think she quite understands how expensive a boat is.

You ask about her time in contest circuit and how she’s enjoying it.

“I don’t know, if I’m being honest. I haven’t made any friends. Not real ones, anyway. Everything’s just so fake, and I feel like I have the routine down to a formula so the inspiration just isn’t there anymore. I’m winning more than ever, but each win feels empty and pointless after.” She sighs. “Maybe it’s just because the main cup is coming up and that’s where the real prestige is. Or I’m just bored of it. I don't know. I overheard father talking to a client and we talked about their problems for hours and as odd as it is, that was way more interesting. Should I ask him to let me be more involved?”

Wow! She’s really laying it out there. You were just going to ask how to relax!

>Just listen. Let her vent
>Maybe she has a knack for her dad’s business. She should explore that instead

Poking and prodding is good, though. It helps with the discovery process!

Does she like working with others to solve problems? How about solving problems in general? Maybe she just wants to make more of an impact on people with what she does.

>>
Maybe if Val's tired of beauty competitions she should try going after smart, tough, cute, or cool?

You let Val vent to your for a bit. Her thoughts meandre here and there, not really sticking on one subject long enough to get many coherent thoughts out. She just has so much to let out. And boy, does she let it out. She talks and talks and Sorbet falls asleep on your lap and Mace on your feet and Hana and Laki and Abigail all do like fifty different things while you sit there and nod and listen. But at the end of it, you feel like you’ve gotten closer to Valerie.

“Woo. Sorry.” She says after. “Guess I got a bit crazy. Anyway, how are you?”

“Val, how do you relax?” You ask.

“I...what?” She laughs. “What kind of question is that?”

“I’m serious. I have no idea what to do. Whenever I was stressed before I’d just bake or go see my brother or sister. I have no idea how to relax out here.”

“Are Hana and Laki giving you a hard time?”

“Well, no. But I always feel like I could be helping them with something. I owe Laki like four hundred massages, and Hana-”

“Hana is crazy about you and wants to be your ideal girlfriend.” Val tells you. “I’m not breaking her confidentiality telling you that. Trust me, you have nothing to worry about from her unless you’re not as serious about things as she is. You are serious, right?”

You tell her the story of how you confessed your love to the girls.

“Well there you go. You can relax with Hana. But Laki...that sounds bad.”

Your heart jumps. “Bad?”

“I’m not pretending to know more about your girlfriend than you do, but if you ask me, it sounds like Laki wanted you to take it farther.”

You glance around to make sure nobody can hear. “Like, marriage?”

“Maybe. Or maybe something close to it.” Valerie says. “I know we’re young, but look into Loanan dating culture. They’re quicker to get down and dirty but they also date a lot less people.”

“I thought I’d scare her away by dropping the L word.”

“Girls are complicated.” Valerie teases. "I just think she wants something concrete."

Do we think Herb is more worried about Laki getting bored with him and leaving? He's been out of his depth for a while now, having two girlfriends to keep up with and not really giving himself enough credit for the good he does.

Might be worth floating to Val or Laki herself later. We all probably have our insecurities about relationships.

>>
“Well, Laki is going to have to meet me halfway. I’m in and I’m serious, but we’re still teenagers.”

She nods. “Makes sense. That sounds reasonable.”

You ask her all about what she can tell you. You learn that when you first meet her parents you should be well dressed and maybe even a little showy with displays of wealth. In terms of milestones, there’s a day like Valentine’s day coming up, and it sounds pretty similar. In fact, you think she’s describing that festival on Eelilee that Keira mentioned for next week. It’s customary to get your significant other a small collection of sticks that you form into shape. You toss them into the ocean to form artificial reefs to help produce more fish for future generations. They also enjoy a particular pasty together.

“How do you show you are committed to a partner seriously without proposing marriage?”

“Well, uh, I heard there’s some sort of quasi proposal thing. Like engaged to be engaged, sort of. I know, I hate that, but in Loanan culture it’s supposed to be a lot more sweet and less annoying sounding. There’s a small semi-marriage ritual that sounds nice, and when you get married for real you recreate it.”

“I see.” You rack your brain to take this all in.

“Mutual ownership is also big. Even if you both have something small together. It’s supposed to be a big deal.”

“This sounds complicated.”

She laughs. “Not like I’m an expert. I don’t have a single boyfriend, let alone two.”

You think about the way both Laki and Hana have talked about and looked at Val. She probably got closer than she thinks. “What about Sal-mates? What’s their relationship?”

Valerie shrugs. “I figured you’d know. I didn’t even know that was a word.”

Jeez, this is tough. “Would aura mixing count?”

“Aura...what?” She shakes her head. “You’ve been exploring a whole other world than me, it sounds like.”

“Sorry. I don’t know. I just want to make it work. I don’t want to screw this up. I don’t even really understand how I got here. What happens when they get bored or sick of me?” You hate relaxing. It’s so stressful. If you’re just sitting around, won’t they realize how boring you are?

“Well, they haven’t said anything to me about being bored. They’re probably worrying about the same things. And if things go wrong, well, that’s what friends are for, right?” She smiles, but you can sense she didn’t want it to come out that way.

General question for Val - is she interested in dating right now? I know Laki had been hitting on her for a while, but is she looking for flings or something longer-lasting?

Gobble, what is it about Val that turns me into such a gossip?
>>
“Thanks, Val.”

“See? I’m good to talk to!” She laughs. “Sorry for talking your ear off. Hopefully someone there will treat it well.”

You have no idea what she’s saying, but you smile and nod as the call ends anyway. Valerie tried to make you feel better, and in some ways she did.

You quickly send Keira a text asking about aura mixing and wait for a reply.

She must be busy.

Well, here goes. “Hey!” You shout out. “I’m ready to go to the creek.”

“About time!” Abigail says. “Come on! Let’s go!”

You are your group head off to the nearby creek. The big open field becomes a tiny little path with barely any beams of full sunlight penetrating through. Yet the warm air helps keep it just warm enough to be comfortable in light, breezy clothes.

You arrive at the small creek and your pokemon all make themselves at home. Abigail takes Gardevoir, her Vivillon Conqueror, and a few other items. “We’re going to be bathing over there. Right around the corner where we came from. Got it?” She looks to Hana. “So there’s no room to accidentally stumble on us because you know where we are, and we’re just out of the range of noise.”

“Umm, okay.” You state flatly.

They leave you, your own pokemon, and the girls alone. The girls strip you, themselves, and have you sit in the water while Laki massages your back.

“You’re so tense.” Laki says into your ear.

Hana sits on your lap. “We’ll fix that.”

Oh jeez, oh man. You’ve been in this situation before but now you’re getting worried. What if the novelty has warn off? You’ve done absolutely nothing to make them like you in since your dunk into the ocean. Is Laki upset we haven’t gotten to her parents yet? You’re the one delaying things. And what about all the work they did to get that milk? That was your idea. And now they’re doing all this just for you. Is someone’s pokedex playing music? What perfume or shampoo are you smelling from Laki?

Why did you let yourself get all worked up? Did Jeanine’s trip into your aura make you more conscious of your issues? Is it just that you feel like the one contributing the least to the group right now? Things were so good and now you’re getting all freaked out about blowing it!

You relax as Laki massages your shoulder. Hana playfully bites an ear. Oh. Oh boy that feels nice. But what if you can’t satisfy them both again? What if your pokemon start to see you differently because of your funny o-face? Oh gosh what do the girls think of that?

Anxiety begins to freeze over your body. All this skin and pressure and smell is overloading you.

Some are based on timers, but good ones use static generated by wind or other natural sources of RNG.

So the Random Number God is, in fact, Zeus?
>>
>>2361153
The theory I've heard is that it uses the post number of the last post made site-wide as the seed. Since every board has it's own post count, it ought to be swingy as hell. Presumably if there's a hot thread somewhere getting continual posts it would normalize the results, since the seeds would be nearly the same.

Maybe if we time rolls with structured shitposting on slow boards, we could learn to load the dice.
>>
>>2361153
The dice rollers on this site is based off the board time that post is timestamped under. So, if it was possible to post at exactly the same time then you'd get the same number.

“Guys, can we do this without the pokemon?”

“They’ve seen it. Well, some of them, sometimes.” Laki says.

“Still. I don’t want them to see me...undignified.” You say.

The two girls giggle a little, but Hana goes to take care of it. Laki reaches around your body from behind, her hands slipping under the water.

“Eep.” You accidentally let out.

“Shh, shh.” Laki whispers into your ear. “We’ve got this. You don’t have to do anything but lie back and let us thank you for being you.”

-

Well. You are drained. You had a lot of trouble getting things going there and got a little tempted to drown yourself, but after all is said and done, the girls did spoil you. The only thing keeping you from freaking out about your performance is how well they did. It was all about spoiling you so nobody cares if it wasn’t your best work, right?

At least your pokemon didn’t see.

You’re taken back to the camp and commanded to get into bed early before you get any ideas about getting lost in the woods or something else. You have trouble sleeping, though. You wake up in the middle of the night, groggy and trying to make sense of voices outside the tent.

“Shh. Come on. He was tired. Besides, wait until he shows you what he can do with aura massage. That was the most intense physical experience of my life.”

“R-really?” Hana’s voice asks.

“Again. I didn’t ask to be a part of this conversation.” Abigail’s voice says.

“It’s my fault.” Laki says. “I made everything all weird by freaking over the love thing.”

Wait. That’s the girls, and they’re talking about you.

I never could understand why people got so salty in that one. Only quest I got legit upset while playing was Snakecatcher during the dirty depression arc. there were to many players and the options provided during that arc were all half assed so people kept whiplash voting ("Do this." Result was less then optimal "Undo that" Back to square one) and write ins were almost completely ignored.

Thats why I like this quest so much, theres always the possibility of shit happening like our recent trip in the sea but its so much more comfy. A lot more focus on character interaction and peeling back the layers of world building. I mean last quest the only thing that I felt was out of left field was Robins eye and gobble took in the feedback from the players and turned into a nice sub-plot. Also butts
>>
>>2361345
I've been through many salt fests and it usually came from miscommunication between QM and audience, but also quite a few of them were just the player base being dicks.

I think it's funny people bring up Robin's eye coming out of left field because I was part of that threat and I felt like the danger of the dungeon was highly telegraphed yet people decided to delve deeper and when a back role came I was unsurprising how the stakes were very high.

Eh some people get upset at different things and it also depends how invested one is in the quest. For example, earth bender quest, to some the way it ended was just a big meh to others tho oh boy it cause a salt storm.
>>
>>2361313
So is Kato's stuff good. I've never read any of their quests?
>>
Boy I was just fuckin pissed at Soma's reasonings for including those crits that were out of range. None of this "But it's so rare" bullshit, you have a system you stick with the system and don't change it midway through to make more drama.
>>
“You made things weird?” Abigail asks. “You’re the least weird out of the three of you.”

Laki sighs. “I just mean... I don't know. It just feels weird now. Like there was no chemistry. I don't know what I was doing wrong. Maybe I already blew it.”

“You were just nailing the guy!” Abigail exasperates.

“Things aren’t weird!” Hana insists. “The only thing that’s weird is that people keep thinking it’s weird. Not every time is going to blow your mind. Not every day is going to be a magical adventure. He won't make you feel perfect every single day because he's just a guy and he can't solve all your problems. But he won't let us down. Herb loves me and he loves you. You know that!”

“But-”

“Butt muffins!” Hana insists. “Stop it, Laki. Life is scary! I get it! I have an internal mental breakdown just being the first one to say hi in the morning. Every day I just want to go home and watch movies and shut out the world because that’s something safe and familiar. But I now, even when I feel that way in the morning I’m really glad I didn’t do it at night.”

“What are you trying to say?”

“We’re both the same! I get tempted to run away to my thing, and you run to yours.”

“I’m not running.” Laki says flatly, an edge on her tone.

There’s a slight hesitation before Hana speaks again. “You are. You’re just sabotaging yourself. . You’re scared to try at things you really care about. You're looking for problems because you want something to go wrong so you can go back to feeling sorry for yourself because that’s comfortable and familiar! You want to do to Herb what you did at the games.”

“Oh shit...” Abigail’s voice carries in the silence. That’s a button even she knows not to press.

The conversation you’re overhearing is hitting you like a tonne of bricks. You look over and see Bella is listening with you in the tent.

Things got that way because of waifu fights, Soma being a tease, risk, and never meditating on enchantment. Plus the quest fell victim to it's own success. It got popular and a lot of people jumped on, and it ended up changing things for the worse. I think they took Soma's shitposts too seriously.

You decide to keep listening. You don’t want to interfere, but you can’t exactly just tune out and not see where this goes.

There’s silence, then footsteps from Laki. She’s walking away.

“I took it too far.” Hana tells Abigail.

“She probably needed to hear it. I’m just surprised you said it. You’re ballsy.”

Hana laughs lightly. “Thanks. I don’t know about that. But I think I really screwed it up this time. I hope she’s just taking some time to think.”

The footsteps are coming back.

“Well she wasn’t out long, so I’d say you’re right.”

“Hey.” Hana says softly..

“Hey.” Laki returns in the same tone. Then there’s a thumping noise.

“Holy shit!” Abigail shouts. “Hana are you okay?”

“Winded.” She wheezes. You barely heard that.

“Well I wasn’t going to fight you fair!” Laki says, angry, but also almost apologetic. “Not after last time.”

“Is this common?” Abigail asks.

“You’re right.” Laki says. “You’re right, okay? I’m scared and I don’t know how to handle it and it feels exactly like the games. Things are going way too fast on my end. I want babies, and marriage, and a life together already and I know that’s crazy. And I’m paralyzed because of it!” Laki paces.

“Paralyzed?” Abigail says. You can’t see it, but you can imagine the face she’d give and how she’d gesture to Hana.

“Shut up. I’ll get you too.” Laki says. “I don’t want to fail at this. I don’t want us to talk about love and commitment and all that stuff and meet my parents and we get real close and then after the journey ends so do we!”

Hana is wheezing something you can make out.

Laki responds. “If I don’t really try, I can’t really fail. I don’t know how to love him! And what if...what if I give it everything and it’s not enough?”

Laki paces. She needs a second to process that. “Well I’m worried about the same thing.”

“That Herb will get boring and-”

Laki shoots daggers out of her eyes at Abigail. Once she’s sure there won’t be any more from her, she turns back to you and her face softens again. It doesn’t look intentional, that’s just how she looks at you now. “That I won’t measure up. How can I?” She says. “I’m a washout and you’re this amazing rising star that everyone likes and I guess you’re also super gifted at aura stuff now apparently. I act brave but Hana’s the real brave one.”

Hana wheezes something in response, fails to get it out, and gives a thumbs up instead.

“You’re okay?” You ask, wanting to make sure. It makes you very uncomfortable to see her like that.

“She’s winded but fine.” Gardevoir says. Her own voice drips with emotion. She consoles Hana. “I’m very sorry.” She apologizes. She must be picking up on Laki.

“Well, I’m scared, you’re scared, Hana’s scared.” Laki says.

State that we want to prove to Laki we want to be more serious, but we aren't ready for marriage YET. Oh ya all the questions Val couldn't answer. and if she gives us a look about the adding more Sal-mates, just say Gotta Catch'em All.

Goodnight, Gobble. I love relationship drama. I'm glad all this stuff finally came out into the open. I've been waiting for this since I voted for herb to tell he loved the girls.

Night Gobble. Thanks for the run.

It won't win but fuck it why not it'd be a tension breaker.

Thanks for running Gobble!

so what bins do we have on deck?

>We're going to go to bed and snuggle.

>In the morning we'll all know that nobody holds grudges in this relationship and how important communication is.

>For instance, I need to live together before marriage so I know I'll be able to make you happy in the long-term. And making sure you and Hana have a healthy relationship, whatever it is or is supposed to be, is important to me.

>This isn't just a fling for me, I'm not going to leave when our journey's over. You don't have to trap me.

>Relationships take a lot of work but that's okay because we don't do it alone.

Okay, I think this says everything as concisely as possible, although there is a lot to be said here. I just don't think that pushing things further off will do too much good. Let me know what you guys think.

>>2361677
I'd like to know this>>2361707 too. Are you keeping a list or something?

Also, goodnighty!

[The expected relationship attitude is like, really close roommates. If it goes further than that, well, that's just how those matters go. You can have more than one, and there's no real upper limit, but it would generally be very frowned upon if it was thought you were abusing the sanctity of such things.]
>>
But yeah, we should probably assure Laki that knowing what she wants isn't wrong, but that we need her to go slower for us.
>>
Weird thought:
If we hadn’t given Laki some mediocre sex, she wouldn’t have triggered her insecurities and we would be having this conversation later instead of now.

So we have bad sex to thank for good communication.
>>
>>2361723
Backing this.
>>
>I’m a washout and you’re this amazing rising star that everyone likes and I guess you’re also super gifted at aura stuff now apparently.

Latka, we got knocked on our ass just touching a Miltank. We’re not that cool.
>>
>>2361723
I support these points.
>>
>>2362267
It's funny that Laki is afraid of doing her best because she might fail and Herb is afraid that people will find out he's a fraud that doesn't belong and his best isn't good enough. Herb isn't afraid of trying his hardest but he suspects that no matter how hard he tries he's just not all that special. Their insecurities are compliments.
>>
> Not every time is going to blow your mind. Not every day is going to be a magical adventure. He won't make you feel perfect every single day because he's just a guy and he can't solve all your problems.

I just wanna take a moment to point out how incredibly on-the-ball I think Hana is here. I swear every time we stumble in our relationship with one of these girls the other one steps in to smooth things over.

Hana deserves a turn as middle spoon tonight.
>>
>>2362897
Hana's aware enough to see through a lot of these problems. That knowledge doesn't help much when you *feel* like trash, but it's there!

>>2361723
Backing this. I'd like to toss in meeting Laki's parents too, even though that's a near-term item. We've already met Hana's adoptive parents and they've met Herb's.

Maybe also emphasize that we'll all have times where our own issues overwhelm us, and while none of us can magically make everything better for someone we *can* keep them afloat long enough to get a handle on their problems again. It's a followup to what Hana said, and I think it's an important enough value to base a relationship on. Help each other, and learn to accept help from each other in turn.
>>
Is this what it was like to be Robin?
>>
>>2365998
Kind of in the emotionally supportive helpful way?

Robins confidence issues stemmed from family problems though.

Also Laki and Hana at least mentally and emotionally aren't anywhere near as fucked up as Kat.
>>
>>2365998
Oh. They also haven't maimed herb yet. If Laki or Hana disfigure Herb then we're on the right track.

I think the only girl at risk of seriously screwing herb up was Jane in some sort of "YOU'RE ACTUALLY PRETENDING!" "AHA MY CLEVER PLAN HAS SHOWN THAT YOU Bleed... blood.. you're.. not a lizard person,
oh god herb I'm so sorry!
>>
>>2366036
Well, in their minds they almost drowned him.
>>
>>2366320
Herb did that though, Kat very clearly got Robin shot in the face.

Maybe they'll get their chance when some anti-mainlander thugs show up and instead of running they tried to confront them and herb gets all banged up.
>>
>>2366411
It's kind of hard to imagine Hana and Laki not being able to handle themselves in a fight.

Also, if we learn to heal ourselves by taking aura, we might be able to get off free from whatever injuries we may sustain.
>>
>>2366424
Of course they can, that's not the point. It's a risk that shouldn't be taken. It just takes one guy getting lucky with a knife.

Herb no longer has the frying pan of conquest.
>>
Hana's been a real good girl lately, I've been wanting Herb and Hana to go see a nerdy movie as a date. So since "The Shape of Water" won the oscar we should take her to Not!"The Shape of Water" if we get the chance. I think she would dig a movie like that.
>>
>>2367655
Where the disabled female protagonist who spends most of her free time masturbating in a bathtub as sex with a Mega-swampert. Seems the pokemon equivalent of oscar worthy to me.
>>
>>2367716
I feel like Deoxis would fill the role better. It’s the alien nature, not the aquatic nature, that’s important.
>>
>>2367716
Wouldn't the Pokemon equivalent be a half Magikarp half man thing?
>>
>>2368657
it'd probably just be a really humanoid pokemon, ala gardevoir etc
>>
>>2368747
Swampert is kinda humanoid.
>>
>>2368747
>>2370002
Yeah but those things actually exist in the Pokémon world. It’d be like if the shape of water featured a normal chimpanzee instead of a mythical fish-man.
>>
>>2370061
That's what I was thinking. Or we could always just ask to watch her favorite movie, which I assume is either Alien or blade runner
>>
>>2370061
that's why its mega swampert. those shouldnt happen naturally at least in Kats time they were treated as quasi-legendary so a stable mega-swampert would fit the bill.
>>
>>2370830
Yes but that's like the frill shark. It was something we knew existed and then one came from the deep to show it wasn't extinct. Rare as hell but not a complete unknown.
