Welcome to part three of the traditional Evolution game. Anyone is free to drop in at any time and drop out at any time. The rules of the game are simple and are as follows:
1. Find a creature that is still alive
2. Make up a nice mutation for them
3. Paste the critter in MSPaint
4. Add the mutation to them
5. Post here, with a description.

Now, for do's/don'ts
DO post no matter how shitty your art is! It's not that hard to edit in paint, just do your best!
DO try to use the pencil tool instead of brushes, as it will make it easier to edit linework and recolour
DON'T mutate the same creature twice in a row! There'll be plenty of family lines in need of love.
DON'T overdo mutations. A creature doesn't suddenly grow legs, intellect and fire-breathing.

this is the Mini Purp, the mini purp is able to avoid the pheromones released by the Parasite Vine due to becoming intoxicated from certain phloomps, it then moves into Parasite Vine tangles, feasting on the abundant carrion of the Vines' victims.

Just a suggestion: next time you have to post the starters, you can add the description text into the evolution trees themselves, near the pictures of the creatures. That way you'll cover creatures faster in fewer images.
I'm not sure if the trees have enough space for text however, so you might need to make separate images with more blank space around the creatures. Even so, the image count will be lessened significantly.

The increased size of the Scaled Dukes allows them to take down larger prey, but their pathetic little jaw gave them a hard time chugging it down fast enough, allowing for competitors to steal away the unfinished food easily. Two new bony potrusions fix this problem, allowing the Scaled dukes to rip out larger chunks of prey faster, and protecting their vulnerable heads in times of need.

The events of the Foliumincrementum period 70 million years ago greatly spread plant life throughout LV-427 and led to many creatures evolving to live on land. Unfortunately however LV-427 has become host to a large satellite. This satellite could be considered a dwarf planet and has gotten stuck rotating around LV-427. LV-427’s moon however will eventually end up colliding directly with LV-427 due to its gravitational pull and orbital path, however this is at-least a billion years away. More importantly however is that a very small satellite of the moon has been pulled into LV-427’S atmosphere and is about to crash into the right side of Terrapetram, just in the shallows. When paired with the new moon the results for LV-427 are:
Tides which make Sea leafs incapable of staying in one place and always being pushed towards Terrapetram or dying.
Massive fires and immense heat surrounding the crater area and in general Terrapetram.
Metals and rare minerals being spread across the surface of Terrapetram and around the crater area in the shallows.
since apparently I wasn’t clear on this before, I’ll say it again, any creature that is in danger of extinction will almost certainly die if it does not evolve to the new circumstances, the creatures in-danger are; all plant life and all other creatures which have begun living permanently or even partially on land

The Pearl Cochleacrabs now use their cementing and pearls to build nests around corpses, small colonies develop in these nests, spreading as corpses drop to the bottom. Their young attach themselves to the corpses and use them for nutrients as they grow.
They use the pearls to mark their colonies so that the adults can get back from scouting and feeding.
In addition, they also start filtering their waste into a weak acid which helps with burrowing their colonies underground.

To more effectively combat the crunchbug, the Hardwood Ashleaf has begun sprouting more rapidly, causing a genetic defect which makes their wooden veins outgrow the leaf structure itself, where they no longer serve a purpose, other than igniting the plant more often, even outside of wild-fires.
This has caused them to spread like a proverbial wild-fire and are quickly replacing their "normal" variant.

River Barons adapt in such a way they can easily flee to the water in case of a fire. They grow stumps of muscle they can control to gallop quickly once they spot an oncoming blaze. Their feelers also become sensitive to particles released by fire, so they will never be taken by surprise.

The Fire Barons are now capable of breathing air directly through specialized sacs along its body that are also capable of filtering smoke.
It develops a large sac on its chest capable of storing large amounts of water which it then sprays through its altered head at a high pressure to put out fires. It then uses the areas where the fire has been put out to nest, using the ambient heat to keep up its body temperature, no longer needing to subathe for hours.
Due to its new head shape and chest sac it is now capable of shooting out its noxious gas at any would be predators.

After the impact, the Grundlemaw separates into two species: Eastern and Western.

The Eastern Grundlemaw inhabits the impact site and nearby shallows. It has abandoned it's ability to hold water, as the shores no longer have any plants that would facilitate going on land. Due to the high concentrations of rubble and ash in the water, it has developed it's lymphatic frill even further. The spike on it's face begins to atrophy from disuse.

After the impact, the Grundlemaw separates into two species: Eastern and Western.

The Western Grundlemaw, finding that due to the tides plants have moved further inland, develops it's terrestrial capabilities even further. The nose skin is now permanently deployed, and the nostril now houses a complex filtering organ. When exposed to air, the Grundlemaw can breathe in and then diffuse the oxygen into the water in it's nose. The CO2 produced by breathing is then expulsed through the gills. This new arrangement greatly increases the amount of time the Grundlemaw can spend on land, but still, the drain of oxygen is faster than it's refill.
The Grundlemaw can spend up to 2 hours and 37 minutes on land. As the ocean waters are infested with >>2352824, the Western Grundlemaw now ventures to lakes and rivers instead.

The Taste Tester pays no heed either to the colossal impact forces collapsing many of it's tunnels nor to the Beyul plant's vastly increased spiciness. The Oilfruit is an offshoot of the gourdleaf, growing out of it, sapping it for nutrients, it stands on the vines that grow out of the gourds, topped by a fruit that contains flame retardant oil, this oil runs all through the Oilfruit, effectively protecting it from the fires.
The oil from the fruit falls and coats the gourdleaves whenever the oilfruit is fed on and when it dies. This helps keeping the leaf carpets from catching fire or fire from spreading once they do catch on fire.
Being quite nutritious it probably attracts some life.

The Periscope Backcrab splits into two species: Northern and Southern, separated by the meteorite crater that no Backcrab can cross. Southern Backcrab is currently identical to >>2352919.

The Northern Backcrab, due to it's dependency on it's weaponry to hunt, has lost it's "tail", as it no longer needs to chase it's prey due to much higher killing power. Why did it's killing power rise so much so fast, you may ask? Well, the answer is simple: Cavitation Bubbles. Similar to the Mantis and Pistol Shrimps of Earth, the Northern Backcrab can now produce these lethal, somewhat long-range occurences on demand, at a rate of two per minute.
Oh, and the smiley face is just for visual convenience.

It requires much more food than average to offset this, and its tendrils have grown stubby from disuse. A pair of pedipalps help shovel food into the Queen Purps mouth.

The Western Grundlemaw better refines its breathing system, it is now capable of storing large amount of water in the sac it has on its head, this sac is highly efficient at filtering oxygen, allowing it to move on land for several hours. The resulting Co2 is disposed through its gills in the form of a disgusting mucus that is slightly acidic. It uses its tongue to coat its mouth with this mucus to better help it dissolve food.

A branch of Glower Eel develop sexual dimorphism, the males gain a second front light allowing for better signaling and attracting mates, while the female loses its front light in favor of a sharp beak and darker coloration.
This branch of Glower Eel hunts in pairs, the males baiting prey with a light show while the female sneaks from behind and stabs them. The male uses lights for some rudimentary communication with the female through lights during this. The female turns off her lights to better camouflage itself.

Just take one of the creatures already in this thread, open up MS paint and draw a new feature on this creature. Make sure the new creature isn't too different from it's predecessor and the new feature makes sense given it's behaviour and habitat though.
I'd recommend starting off with evolving the plants, most of them are endangered right now so we need more people to improve them.

Look at the evo trees at the start of the thread and choose a creature that's alive, there are several that are still alive on the previous thread, and some of the creatures that are alive on the trees have already been evolved, so you can evolve the new ones as well.
Life started out in the sea and recently started moving to land so we have some aquatic creatures, amphibians, land creatures, as well as the sea leaf carpets which are basically tangles of floating vines and gourds spread throughout the world ranging kilometers each and sustaining life. Latest event is >>2352969
so if you choose to evolve any land based or sea carpet based creature take that into consideration.
We need people to evolve the Cynemorph and Phloomp lines which are really sparse right now.
Once you've chosen what you want to evolve, just download the picture and open it in paint, edit it using the pencil brush, this is important to maintain a cohesive look and easy editing. Make sure to make at least a small visible change to the creature, but not too extreme as well as describing the change and why its been made.

The Clean Western Grundlemaw, unlike the normal Western Grundlemaw, went into a slightly different direction with it's development. Instead of converting it's lymphatic frill into a second water purifier, it instead developed it's already-present nose further, finally making the rate at which it can refill oxygen higher than the rate at which it consumes it. CO2 that is generated during breathing still exits through the gills in gaseous form, though the breathing itself is now mostly done by the nose.
In addition, it's skeletal system undergoes some changes, both minor and major, to adapt for life on land.
The Clean Western Grundlemaw can survive on land indefinitely thanks to it's nose and skin, but nevertheless must venture to bodies of water to drink, clean itself and reproduce.

The colonial Cochleacrab progresses to building their nests in the form of a 'lobster-pot'.

They disgorge their digestive juices into the bottom of the nest, the scent of which lures prey inside, which is dissolved in the acid. periodically, when there is no large, dangerous, prey alive in their nest, the Lobster Pot Cochleacrabs will enter through access holes & drink some of the acid/nutrient soup, or regurgitate more acid to re-fill the sump.

The colonial Cochleacrab further develops their colonies, adding a room at the top of the trap where the adults live, this room usually surrounds a large corpse they could live off of for a while, otherwise they just bring in food from outside. The adults dispose their acid down through a hole in this room down into the pool which now connects to a breeding pool below where the young live and feed off of the sludge thats created when anything gets trapped. Once the young develop their shell they count as an adult and leave the breeding pool through a hole at the side.

While most plant matter that once covered the waters had died, some of the smaller islands have persevered. This is in no small part thanks to the Course Corrector Leaf, a new offshoot of the Vine Leaf that grows inbetween the Gourd Leaves. This new leaf has a massive flat lower half, which is not entirely provided with nutrients to minimize it's cost on the plant, which acts as a fin, steering the islands and making them go in circles rather than drifting away. Unfortunately, the Course Corrector Leaves are not big enough to steer islands bigger than 17 m across, no matter the amount of Course Correctors on the island, resulting in all but the smallest of plant islands perishing.

I based that on a thing some species of scorpion do in the real world; over the course of their lives they gather the trace metals In what they eat at the tips of their claws & stinger, making them harder & harder. The plants just do it more so.

I suppose the Crunchbugs could to the same trick; gathering the metals from the plants they eat & depositing it in their mouth-parts? Perhaps the young bugs have to seek out young plants which don't have much metal in them yet, and only the older bugs can target the fully-grown plants, with the very oldest Hardwood Ashleafs being almost impervious?

In a strange case of "monkey see monkey do" The Mulcher Phloomps attempted to copy the behaviors of their Bloomp cousins.
Using their hooks they grab seavines and begin weaving them together into a mat large enough to support their weight. When the seavine mat drifts away from the shallows into the open ocean they cling to the bottom with their hooks and simply hang from the mats which provide a kind of camouflage and a mobile food platform they feed off of. The strangest thing is that the seavine rafts that have Mulcher Phloomps hanging from them tend to grow stronger as the alcohol provides not only a deterrent to other creatures that live on the mats but it also provides nutrients to them.

Many ashbowls that spread to the coastal area, have come into contact with Talcynoberries.
Most land on the leaves and only a few manage to sap nutrients from the roots.

As a result of this situation, the Ashbowl has begun filtering hostile chemicals through it's roots and gathering them in small sacs on the leaf. Upon a berry landing on it, the Ashbowl will emit these chemicals. Once these chemicals have made contact with air, they turn into a potent acid, which slowly damages the ashbowl over time, but quickly dissolves any berries on it.
The dissolved berries are then absorbed into the plant for nutrients, which is enough to repair most of the damage the ashbowl sustained from this.

well i'm not saying i feel like updating the colour of the ground etc on a smaller map plus planet preview every time we go through stages, but if you want to do up a map for how the island is now thats fine and would serve as a good stepping stone to look back on in the evolution of the landmass, however due to the landmass constantly changing as i said it would be difficult to keep both maps in sync. however when/if the game gets to sentience then views of the planet will become very rare and instead it will go to using a map, so it definitely wouldn't hurt to get it started now also if you want to discuss other ideas for some of your drawings feel free to send me an email

ok so volcano going off wouldn't change ecosystem forever and if species is widespread enough it wouldn't threaten it either, just greatly reduce its numbers meaning there will always be less of them. a more severe event though like a full blown ice age would then throw these species into danger again and they would then become so to say unlocked again. in the event of something even larger and more sudden than this though, species may just be wiped out without warning or chance to evolve. this new mechanic will replace some of deaths to out performance that would usually occur

But already there is no overlap in any niche on that planet. No suboptimal subspecies are allowed to endure, the slightest improvement means the death of all previous incarnations. Yeah, sharks have stopped evolving, so have crocodiles, but that doesn't mean that offshoots don't appear (and potentially die out). A species doesn't stop existing when a new one develops.

You already have such cases as sharks and crocodiles anyways in the form of evos that aren't being evolved because they are fit for their role and they can't think of a good thing to add to it since it seems pretty done.

As a way to protect themselves, they have started secreting a powerful binding agent to the bottom of their bells, which closes the holes in some gourds, trapping whatever is inside.

The Organized Purps have learned to take advantage of this, taking the pearls that have been beached near their hives and using them to make "doors" that can only be opened from the inside, keeping the >>2366252 out. In order to have a pheromone that can signify a door, their glands improve, however, due to the nature of the chemical encoding pattern, the amount of pheromone types is now 20, larger than the amount of signals the Purp understand. Time will tell if anything will come of this.

since my PC decided to go full retard and not actually send what I posted earlier today, I'll try my best to type it out again:

No one's forcing you to do the evo-trees alone.
Delegating their edits would be easier on you.
Sub-trees make delegating easier.
Ask someone who has a pet-evo, like me with all the plants for instance, to work on the sub-tree they're invested in.
You're going to drastically decrease the chance of errors and the file size.
Sure, there is a risk of someone not delivering, but in that case it's just back to the status quo for you.
Best case scenario though, is that the guy updating the sub-tree, is going to do it regularly, because he loves the things in it.


Consider it, there's literally no drawbacks.

Due to a mutation, The Queen Purp has developed stronger pheromones which overrides the natural pheromone signals of Organized Purps and Hive Purps which allows her to control both, creating the Collective Purps.
In addition, she is able to produce eggs, which she guards in her lair, these eggs have a 3 day incubation period during which they can hatch into any of the 3 subspecies of Collective Purps.
Brutes now protect the nest and Food Collectors while they forage.
When the queen dies the collective Purps will begin clustering around the remaining eggs defending them until a new queen hatches or the nest dies.

The Organized Purp have found protection from the subjugation through what was once a flaw: some Purps would munch on Nolor roots, which unlike Nolor trunks aren't covered in armor, thinking them to be food. Now these same defective Purp serve a purpose, chewing the Nolor and releasing the deadly hot juice, burning the Queen and her eggs alive. Most of these cases result in the perpetrator dying, but those who by some miracle survived went on to breed, and soon the Nolor-chewing was refined and only triggered when a Queen was present.
The egg-defending behaviour turns out to have been based on the pheromones produced by the eggs themselves, so the destruction of the eggs resulted in this behaviour not occuring.

Some of the least advanced Purps have found themselves on Leaf Mats. The Island Purps now make their hives more horizontal in structure, as the Leaf Mats do not have much in terms of height. As Leaf Mats themselves are made entirely out of food, these Purps seldom face hunger, but due to their activity many leaves on mats are damaged. Each time two Mats make physical contact, there are already Purps waiting to embark on new habitats, spreading the species.

A strain of Dangler Phloomps begin eating the gourds of the leafmats that they hang from, Their higher caloric content causes them to bloat and produce an higher proof of alcohol in excessive amounts.
Their claws evolving to better pick and break the gourds apart for easy consumption.
Their new diet has slightly altered their coloration.
They have adapted the ability to move each of their eyes independently making it easier to spot threats and food.

the evo started very far into the evolution process and so from here on in we are saying that when thread one started it had already been 4.2billion years since the forming of LV-427, this is also the final event before changes are implemented, which will be in the next thread as the image count is getting very low.
200million years has passed since the Tutum Period and very little land based evolution has occurred on Terrapetram, many new types of underground species have evolved however and plant life has continued to diversify. Two new continents have also begun rising from the ocean, on the left being FloraInsulam and right MortemRegio although lacking all the needed elements to support complex life, both continents are filled with rich soils and needed conditions for plant based life.

Would you rather have the civilization phase start in thread 5 or 6? Thread 5 would put less pressure on you but given that our creatures are only dinosaur-tier right now it would put more pressure on players, so waiting until thread 6 for sentience/sapience could be better(and more historically accurate).

Sentience and Sapience is something quite different. Sentience is the ability for species to feel and perceive, whilst sapience is the ability to think and reason.

I'd argue a lot of the creatures are already sentient though, spare for the cynemorphs, algae and maybe some phloomps.

i would also argue that however at the top i said stupidly that evo's couldn't evolve sentience instead of sapience, and im only rushing to civ to prevent the complete death of the evo game, also we don't need to reach civ imminently im just asking, because so far very little progress has been made towards large sentient land based animals and at this rate people will get bored and stop playing.

I would probably hold off on rushing to civ stage, I see a few creatures that have sentience but I don;t feel they are "evolved" enough to truly have a civ style evo.

Most of what these creatures do is out of instinct, not thinking intelligence (that being said I don't think it would be hard to evolve that but there is so little reason for it to be an advantage)

I think you could definitely slim it down to the requirements of Name (optional), Size, and Habitat and it would still be readable without being too much of a hassle
