Pan and Goku stand side by side with you as you sense out Peppa and Gohan. Like Piccolo said, Peppa seems to be up north with Chuu Lee and Kuriza, while Gohan is with Raditz at Capsule Corp. “Well, while they could contact us at any moment if they need to, I think we should go meet up with Peppa first. Sound good, monkey boy?”

“Yeah! Let’s go!” Goku cheers.

Pan seems to recall the last time she saw your daughter, thinking for but a moment before nodding. You focus on your daughter’s Ki as the two of them grab on to your arm and shoulder, and you teleport away. The three of you appear at a snowy, frozen area, Chuu Lee being the first to take notice of you. Soon, Kuriza glances in your direction, and finally Peppa.

“M-mom? MOM! MAMA!” the girl screams out in joy, tackling you hard enough that you almost lose your balance. She hugs you tight, starting to sob into your chest. “Y-you’re here... you’re here... mama...”

“Shh, shh, it’s okay sweetie... sorry this took so long.” you tell her softly, patting her head. Been a while since you last her her call you that... heh, she must have missed you so much.

“It’s good to finally see you again, Maple.” Chuu Lee says to you, wiping away a tear.

You hug Peppa just a little tighter. “Good to see you too. Thank you for watching over her.”

“...So that phantom truly was wrong. I’d imagine you were out there gathering allies of some sort, yes?” Kuriza comments, taking notice of Pan. You can tell there’s an uneasiness to his voice, even his stance seems defensive.

Peppa finally notices the other girl too. You feel her hold on to you even tighter, pouting at her. “Mom. Who is that?”

“Well, that’s a looooong story, sweetie. We should go find your brother first-” You notice that she clings to you just a bit harder. Is... is she okay? A brief look at her mind and you a sense of... jealousy? “...Pan, maybe you should introduce yourself, before we head out.”

She looks at Peppa with mild suspicion, but shrugs. “Well, we have met before, but you were just a baby then, so figures you don’t really remember me. I’m with the Time Patrol, one of Buula’s partners.”

Peppa finally lets go of you, marching over to the older girl, then thrusts her hand forward for a shake. “...Nice to meet you.” she mumbles out, still pouting at Pan.

Pan hesitantly shakes your daughter’s hand before the girl runs back to you, hiding behind your leg. You pat her head again before turning your attention to Chuu Lee once more. “So I heard you guys faced Freeza, King Cold, and Cooler up here. How did that all go down?”

“It... well, we’ve learned a few things about the phantoms Dr. Raichi has under his control, at the very least.” she replies. “But they’re starting to show some new abilities.”

“What kind of new abilities?” you question.

“My f- ...that phantom attempted to kill them both with two of his Death Saucer attacks. Your daughter managed to knock one away from her as he kept trying to convince me that he was offering a choice for me to join him again... and it hit him.” Kuriza tells you, his voice strangely detached and cold. “It sliced right through him... and he turned into this strange mist. Moments later, he reformed and tried retaliate. I stopped him to demand answers.” Kuriza looks at Peppa. “Your daughter came to my aid before he could try to retaliate.”

“So, regeneration abilities? This is the first I’ve heard of it...” you comment.

“The phantoms aren’t ‘truly’ the people they’re based on, either. They have some of their essence in there, sure, but the Destron Gas that ties them to this realm is the thing giving them their bodies and influencing their minds. As soon as Peppa and Kuriza destroyed the machine, they stopped regenerating.” Chuu Lee adds.

Kuriza shrugs. “It was mostly her. I just held back one of the phantom’s Death Balls for a few moments.”

You smile down at your daughter. “Atta girl.” Peppa returns the smile before looking back at Pan, letting out a little self “hmnh!” at her. “So, what after that?”

“While it’s still hard to use Ki, I was able to take Cooler and King Cold down on my own. Peppa and Kuriza held Freeza’s Phantom down for a bit. He made a gambit, taunting Peppa to try and lower her guard, and then tried to attack her. He... didn’t last long after that.”

An uncomfortable silence fills the area as Kuriza looks away from you all. Goku rubs the back of his neck, breaking the silence with a question. “Well, has anyone else noticed the phantoms reforming like that?”

Chuu Lee shakes her head. “Not to my knowledge. But we can’t let our guards down.”

“...Peppa, are you okay?” you ask your daughter. She seems to not register your question for a moment, starting down Pan. “Peppa.” you repeat, raising your voice.

“Ah! N-no... no I’m fine.” she mumbles.

You cross your arms. “Sweetie, you know if you need to tell me something, I’m here to listen.”

Peppa hesitates a response. “...I’ll be fine. We can talk about it later.”

You pat her head again. “Okay. So, Kuriza, do you still intend on fighting alongside us?”

The alien boy looks up at the sky, dusk starting to settle in. “...I can not abide by Dr. Raichi keeping these phantoms, these shadows of my family, under his control. As far as I am concerned, he is my enemy. And I am sure you know what they say about an ‘enemy of my enemy.’ I will work with you, Mrs. Tuffle, and your allies. As will the Ginyu Force.” He turns back and faces you all. “Let us put an end to this game quickly.”

“Haha, welcome to the team, kid!” Goku declares cheerfully.

“Glad to have you with us.” you tell him with a wide smile. “Okay, I think that about wraps things up here. Let’s head over to Capsule Corp, I’m sure Bulma and her dad will want to know about this regeneration thing and the Destron Gas.”

Everyone gathers around you and you all teleport away, appearing right in front of Raditz and Gohan, the two of them checking on your camels. Almost immediately, the boy takes notice of you, and rockets right at you, nearly causing you to stumble again. “MOM! MOM YOU’RE BACK!”

You hold the boy tight. “I am, son. Sorry it took so long.”

“Where HAVE you been?” Raditz questions, looking over everyone you brought along, taking notice of the new girl among your group. “...Huh. Wait... Time Patrol has been helping you, haven’t they?” he assumes.

You nod, hugging Gohan tight. “Yeah. Buula and her partner Pan here have been helping me with some stuff.”

“Isn’t she a little... young...?”

“Heh, you’d be surprised. This kid helped me kick Turles’ butt a little while ago.” You flash Pan a thumb’s up.

“...Turles was back?” Raditz asks. “What the hell has been going on out there?”

“Where to begin...?” you ask aloud. You all regroup in Bulma’s lab to try and exchange stories with everyone, telepathically getting in contact with the rest of your friends to give them the details too. Raditz and Gohan apparently have been tracking down appearances of strange robots that keep showing up on the planet, but disappearing before they could engage them. Well THAT’S worrying.

The Ginyus decide to head up to the Lookout with Kuriza, all of them reassuring your group that they are with Kuriza on the alliance he’s declared. With most of the Destron Gas machines destroyed, it seems like things should be returning to normal. But after talking with Bulma and her dad about the phantoms regenerating, they come to a very grim conclusion.

“The Destron Gas in the atmosphere might have reached a critical level. Combine that with machines on other planets, Dr. Raichi might have some kind of trick up his sleeve. Agh, dad, how close are we to developing some kind of countermeasure?” Bulma asks her father.

“Give me a few more hours.” he replies.

Bulma delivers a grumbling sigh. “Listen... all of you have been breathing in the Destron Gas for quite some time now. The ones with the least are Maple and Pan, but even you two shouldn’t take this lightly. Inability to use your Ki attacks is one thing, but you all might be losing strength through this prolonged exposure. And just like what happened with Acer... it could put you all in serious danger.”

“Woah, is it really that bad? How long do we have?” Goku asks.

“I’m sure dad and I will be able to reverse the gas’s atmospheric effects soon enough. As soon as the countermeasure is ready, we will start administering it.” she replies. “But time’s limited. And if my guess is correct... Dr. Raichi’s got even bigger plans set in motion.”

You stand up, clenching your fist. “We will be ready for him. Let’s save the world!”

Holy crud I remember looking at this quest like a year or a few ago and it's still going. Finally making it to Raichi and Hatchiyack. I kinda like him despite only being able to use Revenger Cannon and footage of his "super" form only showing up on a really hard to find interactive game outside of Heroes. Hopefully he turns out well here.

I'm glad Kuriza is being used but I have to go back and find out what happened to Nappa, Vegeta and the Crusher Corps. And I assume Broly just happened so I'll have to see how that went too.

Didn't Trip mention having a way of cleansing the gas?

Also I finally caught up with this quest in the archives only to discover it runs about 3am-6am my time.Time zones suck.

While you opt to head for Baba’s, you decide to take Gohan, Peppa, and Goku with. You’ve been away from your family for so long, you should spend some time with them. And hey, Baba’s family too. Hmm, should probably check on dad when you get the chance as well... no doubt he’s going to bonk you on the head for scaring him like that again.

You teleport to her palace, Pan tagging along as well, to Peppa’s slight annoyance. Baba seems to be looking out one of her windows as dusk begins in her area. “I knew that you wouldn’t leave us so easily.” she comments.

“Saw my fate in your crystal ball?” you ask her.

Baba looks back and smiles sweetly. “No need. I have faith in you and your brother. The little wild cards I’ve seen grow so strong and brave.”

“Auntie Baba...” You rub the back of your neck, blushing a little.

“I take it you wish to try to see what Dr. Raichi has in store for us, yes?” she asks.

“It’s something we need to plan for. But... well, I figure we should at least take a breather, too.” You pat Peppa and Gohan on their heads. “Here would be a good place fot that.”

Baba nods. “Understandable. Spike has led my other fighters in search of a few machines nearby. I’ve seen that Undine and Jiya will be returning here soon too, with a few other Galactic Patrol members. Something big is in the works.”

“Have you been able to forsee it already?” you ask next.

Baba shakes her head. “No specifics beyond a large shadow creeping across the globe.”

You snap your fingers. “Well, how about we give it a try together?”

“Take some time to clear your head first, Maple. I will get things ready, but you should take your break first.” She floats towards your kids. “I’m sure these two have been waiting very anxiously for your return.”

Peppa hugs your leg, looking up at you. “Mom...”

“Okay, okay!” you laugh out. “...Sorry for worrying you two.”

Goku wraps his arm around your shoulder. “Good to have you back, Maple.”

Pan quietly steps away from you all, and you can hear her ask Baba, “How much do you know about... um, me?”

“Quite a lot, my dear child. I have seen where you are from.”

Pan seems to tap her fingers together. “...Can I ask you something, then? While they talk?”

Before you can keep listening in on what they’re talking about, Peppa seems to tug on your gi a little harder. “Mom, mom, I forgot, I saw Basilea again! And Pantea and Videl fused and they fought her and, and, they did something AMAZING!”

Peppa excitedly jumps away from you. “Okay, okay, it went like this! Basilea had two new friends with her, these weird girls that were like, all dressed like that Mira guy, but they looked like purple and green bubblegum people, with tentacle hair!”

“...Bubblegum people.” Gohan repeats, brow furling.

She nods. “Yeah, yeah! And they were all mean and bad, and Basilea was trying to go ‘BLAH BLAH PEASANT I AM PRINCESS YOU ARE DIRT NEH NEH!’”

Something tells you the impression is just... a bit rude. But it does mean Basilea was here again too. “I can imagine Videl was ready for her rematch.”

“Uh-huh! But I wasn’t gonna let her trick me again. I knew she was planning something bad, and so I decided to trick her first! I got her REALLY mad!” Peppa declares proudly, puffing up her chest. “And then, and then Pantea and Videl did the fusion dance while I held them off, and teach decided to draw the other weird girls away and Pandel and fought Basilea while I searched for the evil poot machine.”

“Can you never call it that again, please?” Gohan asks his sister.

Peppa pouts at him. “...Shush. Anyway, I found it and I picked it up and I threw it at Basilea and it smashed to bits! Basilea got reeeeeally mad, even though she was getting her butt kicked, she was all ‘Grr, you’re not strong, you’re weak, you gotta fuse to beat me!’ But Pandel wasn’t falling for it. And when Basilea fired a huuuuge blast at them, Pandel caught it! And her aura went all... different!” Peppa transforms, seemingly from sheer excitement. “And she powered up and it was all like, white but smaller and more compact and and and she knocked the blast right back at Basilea!”

Your eyes widen. “...They did it?”

“They did it! They got that new power, the one Videl almost got back in the cave! They were super strong and everything!” Peppa finally powers down. “But Basilea got called home by skunk lady’s friend, and she was all mad. Heh, serves her right for being a bully.”

You grin with pride. Ah, Chuu Lee must have been overjoyed seeing that. “Going to have to check with them again soon.”

“Pandel wanted to call it like, ‘Kaio-Ten.’ Like the Raio-Ten, but also like the Kaio-Ken, and stuff!”

Peppa seems conflicted on how to respond to that. You can sense she’s happy she was able to outdo Vegeta at something, but there’s a subtle undercurrent of regret... ah. It’s about Kuriza. “...Mom, if you have to stop a bad guy that a friend cares about, is it okay if the friend is mad at you?”

You walk over to her slowly. “Peppa...”

She lowers her head. “What if you get so mad at the bad guy for saying mean things about your friends and family... you overreact?”

If anything, he’s probably glad you were there to help him.” You stroke her hair gently. “Still... do you think you overreacted? I won’t be upset if you did. Just tell me honestly.”

“...He got me mad, mom. So mad that I just... I had to stop him.” she mumbles out, shaking. “But I don’t know if I needed to do it...”

“Well, part of that was because you want to protect people, right?” you ask her. Peppa nods her head. “Some bad guys will try to use that against you. They’ll try to get under your skin, take advantage of your anger, especially since you’re still young. You can learn from this, sweetie, so don’t feel discouraged.”

Peppa hugs you tight. “Thank you, mom.”

You smile, then let go of her and place your hands on her shoulders. “This said, sometimes there will be bad guys who do wrong, and just won’t change, no matter how many chances you give them. They enjoy hurting other people and refuse to admit they’re at any fault. Monsters like that do need to be stopped. Just like Majin Ozotto.”

Your daughter gives you a determined nod. “Right.”

“Thank you for letting me know you’ve been worried about this, sweetie. And if you ever feel doubts like this again, remember, your dad and I will always be here for you.”

As Peppa settles down a little, Gohan nudges you in the arm, then points to his head. “Maybe you might know something about those robots, mom. Maybe it could help with you and Baba trying to look into Dr. Raichi’s plot. At least give you something to look for.”

“Ah, of course. Heh, smart thinking, son.” you tell him, patting his head. You take a moment to read his mind, searching for the encounter with such a machine. Though... the first thing you come across in his head isn’t that. It’s the moment he felt your Ki vanish. You feel the fear, the helplessness he went through. How he was ready to bolt back there and try to avenge you. And yet... Raditz stopped him. He told your son that he knows that it’s painful, but that you’d be back soon. He spent some time reassuring the boy and reminding him of what they had to do.

After he was sure that Gohan had been able to calm down, the two of them went off in search of the next Destron Gas machine. Wait... wait there it is. In addition to a few vaguely familiar monsters, there’s a much, much larger robot. And... you’re sure you’ve seen it before. It vanishes the moment Gohan and Raditz approach the machine, and it seems to show up at a few others, too. Your son wondered if his uncle might know about it, but after hearing about what happened to him, he deduced Bulma might know something. Hrmn... but this is ominous.

Gohan trembles for a moment, then hugs you back, his head resting against your shoulder. “U-Uncle Raditz was right, though. You came back to us.”

With a pat on the head, you smile at him, then address everyone. “You were right, Gohan. I do know about it. It’s something Dr. Raichi made quite a long time ago, or perhaps based on it. It’s even bigger than I remember it being, too. It’s called God Guardon. As you could probably tell by the name, it’s one of Dr. Raichi’s gaudrians. That they were showing up on Earth is worrying... maybe they were collecting data for some purpose, and that’s why they disappeared.” Come to think of it... teleporting like that seemed different from your Instant Transmission. Agh, not a good sign either. “If they are linked to whatever Dr. Raichi is planning, then it is something to go off of.”

Baba approaches you. “So you seem to believe you can focus on them, then?”

You nod. “At the very least, it’s worth a shot...”

Though... you do get a glimpse of Goku’s fight with Broly. He wasn’t kidding about Broly getting stronger and stronger... gah, if Broly can ascend too, then you’re in real trouble. Still, you turn to Baba with a determined nod. “Ready when you are, auntie Baba. Let’s see what he’s plotting.”

Baba hops off her crystal ball and places her hands forward, you kneeling down on the other side of it and focusing. You focus on the image of God Guardon, trying to see what it might be up to. As it’s a machine, it’s a bit harder for you to get a good fix on its location, but something does come into- ...oh gods damn it. Why. Whyyyy.

“Grrrgh.” Towa’s voice grumbles out from the orb. You see that she seems a little preoccupied with... a bath. Thankfully you can’t see anything, but you quickly motion for Peppa and Gohan not to look. Pan covers her eyes, her face a bright red. Towa seems to sink her head down in the pinkish, sudsy water, her chin barely above it. “I’m starting to see why they dislike the Time Patrol so much. She’s already gone to work repairing Mira, and little Basilea has returned as well... my options seem to be shrinking for the coming experiments. If only-”

“LADY TOWA.” a loud, mechanical voice calls out to her. Wait... that’s a God Guardon! It appears right... in the middle of her bathroom.

Understandably, Towa is none too happy about its arrival, quickly materializing a towel and tossing it at the machine, covering its face. “WHAT DID I TELL YOU ABOUT KNOCKING?!”

“DR. RAICHI WISHES TO INFORM YOU HE HAS BEGUN PHASE 2.” it declares.

Towa sinks her face beneath the bath... is she pouting? She’s pouting. Briefly poking it up so she can talk, she asks the machine, “How long before he arrives?”

“ALL PREPARATIONS INDICATE 3 HOURS UNTIL ARRIVAL.”

“Hmnh. Fine. I will be ready by then. Now kindly GET OUT.” Towa demands, materializing other objects and throwing them at the machine.

“ACKNOWLEDGED.”

Gah, no! Can’t lose it now! You keep focusing on the machine as it teleports away from Towa. Come on, come on, focus... THERE! The image of it appears within the crystal ball again... in a completely different location. One you’ve seen before. One you’ve been before. Above a number of red crystal spheres floats the man responsible for all of this. Dr. Raichi looks over to the machine. “What was her response?”

“SHE SAYS SHE WILL BE READY BY THE TIME WE ARRIVE.” the machine declares.

Dr. Raichi seems to look up at one of his monitors. Oh... oh no... that... that’s the Earth! “Destron Gas levels are optimal... yes, we should be ready in time.”

“SHALL I GIVE ANY REMAINING MACHINES MAINTENANCE?”

“Only if Destron Gas levels show any sign of depletion.” Dr. Raichi tells the machine. “I will have my phantoms ready soon.” He moves his head, another screen popping up... wait, that’s Gero! “It is almost time for you to come home, my friend.”

Gero seems to nod solemnly. “Yes, it will be nice seeing that blue marble one last time.”

You gulp. 3 hours... 3 hours until Dr. Raichi arrives.

Oh gods. You telepathically contact everyone you can and try to explain things to them. This is bad. This is so bad. Dr. Raichi is coming here, personally. But how? Is he in some sort of ship? Your mind races as you try to think over this, and you recall something. When you saw your defeat at the hands of Hatchiyak in Gohan’s future, you and Acer giving your all and it still not being enough, you remember a moment where he seemed to be looking up at the Earth. But... wait, was it just on a screen? Or... was he actually, physically, looking up at the Earth?

Gods. So that’s his plan. “Agh, that’s so... reckless!”

“What is?” Goku questions.

“Dr. Raichi’s probably turned his whole planet into one massive ship! That’s why he had other worlds he was experimenting on. It wasn’t just to have more minions, he was passing by them on his way to Earth. Agh... damn it...”

Goku stands up confidently. “Then he’s bringing the fight to us. Perfect.”

“P-perfect?”

“Think about how much we’ve trained for this, Maple. You, me, Acer, everyone! I know how things turned out in the other timeline. But, not just that, how Gohan came back specifically for this too. To help us prepare. To make sure that this time, things would change for the better.” Goku starts to power up, the ground around you all shaking as he transforms into a Super Saiyan... and then ascends beyond it once again. “I’d say we’re ready.” He looks at Gohan and Peppa, smiling proudly. “It’s not just us, either. We know Pantea and Videl unlocked that new power, too. Even if this is our toughest battle yet, I know we’ll come out on top!”

Oh Goku... You give him a hug. “Sounds like you’re getting a little excited.”

He rubs the back of his neck cheekily. “...Weeeeell yeah. But I mean it. I’m with you ‘till the end, Maple. We’ve got three hours? Plenty of time to prepare!” He thrusts his fist into the air, though with enough force to accidentally put a hole in Baba’s roof. “...Eheh. Woops.”

“You’re paying for that.” Baba grumbles.

There are still some more Destron Gas machines out there, but the countermeasure to the Destron Gas itself probably takes priority. Trip, Bulma, and Dr. Briefs can do that themselves, but it might not hurt to give them a hand too. Hmm... you can sense your niece still at the Ox King’s village, but it might not hurt to check on her, too. You could also check on Pantea and Videl and see what their new transformation is like in person. Bet Pan might appreciate that, too.

You get an idea, asking Pantea and Videl if they can spare some time to meet up with you at the Ox King’s village. As you decide to teleport there, you, Peppa, Gohan, Goku, and Pan all appear in front of little Izumi as she’s walking around the castle grounds. The girl notices your presence immediately, drawing her sword and pointing it at you all. “WHO GOES THe- ...Auntie Maple? Uncle Goku! And Peppa, Gohan! And...” Izumi spots Pan with you all, putting her sword away but still cautious. “...Uh. Did... did... Ah! Do I have another cousin?!” she asks excitedly. “Wow, the stork brought her pretty quick.”

Both Pan and Peppa seem a little annoyed at the girl’s question. You shake your head. “Pan here is with the Time Patrol, like Bra.”

“Ah. Ohhhh.” Her unease starts to settle a bit, but she glances at you with a frown. “...Auntie Maple, how’s dad doing?”

“Still out, but he’s past the worst of it. I’m... sorry. If I were more careful-”

She emphatically shakes her head. “No, no. I’ve already heard this from Miss Bra. Dad did what he had to, to save everyone from those bad guys. He’s a real hero, just like mom’s always said. I’m just glad he’s safe...”

Your daughter seems to scoot closer to you again. “Have there been any bad guys coming here?” Peppa asks.

“More of those Red Ribbon guys.” She draws her sword again. “But they were no match for me! I did find one of the Destron Gas machines out in the woods nearby. Chopped it up good!” She looks up as you all sense Pantea and Videl coming by. “So... what’s this new thing they learned about, again?”

“It’s suuuuper cool!” Peppa exclaims, finally leaving your side. “They fused and they were fighting Basilea and and and they caught this BIG blast coming at them and they got this new glowy power and it was all like BWOOSH, and and and-!”

“P-Peppa please...!” Videl’s voice calls out, the girl embarrassed by your daughter’s antics. Pan’s eyes seem to lock on to her as she approaches, the girl curious and... seemingly a little nervous.

She and Pantea touch down together, the purple-haired girl laughing. “I’m just glad to see her in high spirits again.” She looks over to you, adjusting her glasses and smiling. “...Though I can’t exactly blame her.”

You place your hands on your hips. “So, let’s cut to the chase. Girls, what do you remember about this ascended state? Can you describe the feeling you had when you entered into it?”

Videl rubs her chin contemplatively. “I’d guess... resolve, kinda? That was one thing we were feeling.”

“But it was more than just that.” Pantea adds. “When we caught Basilea’s fist, we were telling her that it wasn’t weakness to rely on others to get stronger. That we could pushed past our limits through helping each other up. That we’d be able to overcome any fears or doubts together.”

You grin at them. “I bet Chuu Lee was thrilled to see that.”

Videl nods. “She was.”

“Though... while I DO appreciate the name, did you make sure to check with King Kai when you named it that? Don’t want any copyright infringement now...” you ask cheekily.

Pantea smiles proudly, adjusting her glasses again and standing up a bit straighter. “But of course. He approved of it emphatically. Was a little honored, too.”

You nod with approval. “Attagirl.”

“Still, the name isn’t just there as a tribute. It has this... functional side to it too.” Videl adds.

“Functional, huh?” Goku asks.

Videl nods. “It has a power somewhat like the Kaio-ken, but... different. Think of it like instead of releasing all that power at once, it’s like spread out, like the Raio-Ten. But at the same time, it’s beyond even that... like, almost another tenfold increase above the Raio-Ten.”

“Wow! That’s really something!” Goku tells them. “Hehe, bet your dad’s gonna be super impressed when he gets out of the Time Chamber.” Videl bashfully rubs the back of her neck.

“Hmm... but can the two of you do it separately yet, or do you need to fuse to truly use it?” you ask next.

“Hrmn... I’m not really sure, to be honest.” Videl states. “We were able to power down and transform again when we were fused, but afterwards, we haven’t really tried it. I almost got it when I drank the Ultra Divine Water, I know that much, but... dunno if it’s as easy for me on my own.”

Pan seems to listen intently to Videl’s words, like she’s trying to figure something out herself, Izumi and Peppa crowding around her once she finishes. “You can do it, Videl!” they cheer.

“H-hey...”

Pantea seems a little worried, but Videl nods, your confidence in her abilities giving her the little push she needs. Videl spreads her legs slightly, aura glowing around her. “HrrraaaaaaAAAAAHHH!” You carefully analyze how her energy seems to flow and change... Videl’s description is definitely apt, from what you can tell. Flashes of gold flow through her aura, but it’s predominantly white in color, and while it seems to have started out more spread out like normal, it starts to condense around her. With a triumphant yell, Videl jerks her head up, the power finally surrounding her, glowing softly.

“Wooooooah!” Izumi gleefully shouts out. “You’re SO COOL Videl! This... this is really pretty too!”

Videl looks down at her hands, taking a moment to try and make sure she has control of it. You all notice that she seems to move around larger... well, “chunks” of the aura around her, before concentrating them around her hands. “...Looks like I did it. I really did it.” She smiles at Pantea sweetly. “Heh, your turn.”

“W-what?” Videl mumbles out.

“If I try to push myself any harder, I’ll just exhaust my energy without transforming.” Pantea declares in frustration. “I think the reason you’re able to do this... probably boils down to our difference in strength. You’re just on the threshold for this kind of power. I’m... not.”

“Pantea...” Gohan walks to her. “Don’t be so hard on yourself. I wasn’t really sure I could ascend like Peppa did when we faced Ozotto, but... I tried anyway.”

She sighs. “While I appreciate that, I’m not trying to put myself down. I’m almost certain that I’m not strong enough to maintain the form on my own. Not without hurting myself...”

While you want to give her a little talk yourself, you notice Pan frowning at Videl. “...Something up? Did you want to talk with her about something?”

“I... I dunno.” she mutters out quietly. “Just... a lot of things going through my mind. That she could even do this is... so surreal. Mama was a good fighter and all... but never like this.” She blushes slightly. “...Guess I’m just a little jealous, is all.”

Pantea seems to take notice of your quiet conversation, but opts not to say anything just yet.

She sighs softly. “You’re not the first one to tell me that, you know.”

“So... been meaning to ask, but I’m PRETTY sure you didn’t get another daughter in the last day or so since we saw you. I’m guessing... Time Patrol, like sis?” Pantea comments aloud. Peppa seems to look over at Pan with mild annoyance as she does, though Pan doesn’t really take note of her reaction.

“Yeah. I work with Buula.” Pan responds, raising an eyebrow. “...Sis? Oh, right, Bra.” She starts grumbling things about timelines, crossing her arms and pouting.

“She does look a little familiar, actually...” Videl comments.

“Gh!” Pan seems to freeze up for a moment. “I-I’m sure it’s just your imagination, m-Videl.”

While Videl seems to shrug the comment off, Pantea narrows her eyes. “...I see.”

“Oh, that reminds me! I’ve got some REALLY cool outfits you girls might like!” You grin at Pan. Dread fills her eyes, and she starts shaking her head. “I bet you both would look great in them!”

“Heh, sure, Maple, but let’s wait for dad to get out first. He might want to see it too.” Videl responds.

Pan starts shaking her head at Videl next. Pantea clears her throat, telepathically asking you, ‘I don’t think she appreciates the teasing. Can you hold off on that just a bit?’

‘You WILL like it, though! Trust me!’ you respond to her.

‘That may be true, but we do have other things to focus on, don’t we?’

You laugh a little. ‘Only if you agree to one thing.’

‘Fiiiine.’ She rolls her eyes at you.

“Oh? You thought of something, Maple?” Goku asks.

“Eh? But... Maple I just-”

You raise a finger. “You told me you don’t think you’re strong enough. So let’s try an experiment. You know how it felt to transform, you’ve done it while fused, and you say the only thing holding you back is a lack of strength.”

Pantea nods. “Yeah. Videl’s at the threshold. I’m not.”

You form a sphere of Ki in your hand. “So let’s test this hypothesis with an experiment.”

“W-wait, what?” Pantea takes a step back.

“The Lunar Siren, remember? Heh, you did help come up with it, after all.” You toss it up into the air. “I’ll help boost your strength up. So, are you ready?”

Pantea looks like she wants to protest, but relents. She knows you’ve got her cornered on that train of thought. “Okay. I’ll try.”

You fire off the Lunar Siren, boosting Pantea’s strength up. While she’s bathed in the modified false moonlight, you also breathe out “Samma Samadhi” to help her even further. Pantea’s skyrocketing strength seems to mix better with the growing power inside her. Finally, something inside seems to click for her, and she lets out a powerful shout as she finally, truly transforms.

Videl looks at her friend, overjoyed. Pantea herself seems stunned by this, looking over herself to see if it’s really happened. You simply smile at her, telling her, “Well... I’d call that experiment a success.”

Pantea tries to calm herself as the boost you gave her from the Samma Samadhi fades. “Y-yeah... agh...” She struggles to maintain her composure. “I... I’m definitely not strong enough to hold on to this on my own just yet... but you know, this is helping me think through it.” Pantea looks to Videl, raising her fist. “Even if I can’t maintain it as well as you can on my own, I’ll try my hardest to make sure we’re ready to use it when fused.”

Videl taps her fist against Pantea’s. “Sounds like a plan to me.”

Pantea keeps trying to maintain the Kaio-Ten state, Videl helping her as the two try to go over what they can do with it. As they talk, Izumi seems to notice how Videl seems to have concentrated a larger amount of her ki around her hands, and asks them a question: “When you first transformed, was it always like that?”

“Huh... now that you mention it, yeah, I guess it kinda was.” Videl responds.

She tilts her head. “Do you think you could like... move it around, or something?”

Videl tries to focus, crossing her arms at her wrists. It takes her a bit to focus it properly, but she seems to move more of her energy into her right arm, her left having a more compact, contained aura like the rest of her body. “Looks like you’re right. Hah, nice thinking there, Izzy!”

She crosses her arms proudly. “Probably because this is fresher in my mind, but I did notice that it seemed to be a bit different.”

“Say, Gohan, what’s your take on this?” you ask your son.

“Hmm... being able to manipulate energy in such a way that allows it to be focused at certain parts of one’s body does seem like it could come in handy...” he replies, scratching his head, tail swaying behind him curiously. “Pantea, can you try doing that too? Ah, but don’t just focus it in one of your limbs, try to keep it closer to your body. Maybe it can help you keep it under control.”

The purple-haired girl nods, focusing her energy inside herself. It’s even harder for her to do, but she seems to be able to manage it after a bit of difficulty. “Hooooh... p-proper Ki control seems like it’s the key to using this form successfully. S-still a bit of a struggle, but I think I can maintain it a bit better... just can’t really do much with it right now.”

“Okay, Videl! Try firing a weak Ki blast with your left hand, and then try the same amount of Ki in your right.” Gohan instructs next.

She does as Gohan asks, a small burst of Ki escaping her left palm, flying past a tree. She tries the same with her right, and the blast is much bigger, taking off the top of the tree. “W-woah!”

“Knew it.” Gohan declares with a proud smile. “It’s a subtle difference at first, but wherever the largest amount of energy is focused, you’re able to call out more power to amplify your attacks. Hrmn... but seems like it’s got too obvious a ‘tell’ initially. Maybe... hmm... if you could find a way to speed up where and how you move that focused point of energy around, you could get even more mileage out of the form...”

You pat the boy’s head. “Excellent work, son.”

“Well, just applying some of the stuff I’ve learned.” he replies bashfully.

“Since we’ve established that this is possible, what’s say we try something else with it? Videl, do you think you can somehow focus this form into increasing your speed?”

“Maybe... give me a moment...” Videl tries to calm herself again, focusing her aura downward, around her legs. She sidesteps a couple times, trying to get the hang of moving with this shifted focus. While you notice she IS faster, it’s a bit harder for her to balance herself properly. Still, Videl tries running around with the altered state, jumping and dashing quickly around you all, Izumi and Peppa watching in amazement.

“Not bad, not bad!” you tell her.

“Hmm... but it seems to only help your actual, physical movement.” Gohan notes. “You’re not flying any faster... probably because flying involves focusing your Ki around your stomach.”

“That makes sense.” Videl stops herself, taking a short breather. “Hah... better we figure these things out while we still have time, right?”

“Indeed. Though... one last thing.” You look over to your husband. “Say, Goku, you figure that a technique like your Dragon Fist might be easier to pull off with this form?”

He snaps his fingers. “Ah, it just might! Heehee, it DOES take a lot of Ki though... buuuut I figure that if there’s anything theymight wanna try to do with that, why not?”

Videl gains a huge grin across her face. She has an idea.

“You know... we haven’t yet, have we?” Videl asks Pantea, grinning.

“Honestly I’m surprised you could even fire a couple Ki blasts.” she responds. “I guess this form allows us just enough Ki to be able to use our energy attacks again, or the Destron Gas hasn’t affected this area as much...”

“Oh, right!” Izzy smacks her forehead. “Gah, why didn’t I bring that up sooner?”

Everyone turns to her in surprise. “Brought what up?”

She rubs the back of her neck, looking away. “W-well... I’ve kinda been trying to actually clear it out. Mom gave me a copy of her Bansho fan a while back, and wherever I’ve smelled more of the gas, I’ve tried blowing it away. There’ve only been a few machines near here. It...it’s been keeping my mind from worrying too much about dad.”

“Ohhh, so that’s why this place smelled less like someone pooted.” Peppa comments, Pan looking away, trying not to giggle.

You immediately glance over at Goku. “...Give it a try?”

“Giving it a try!” he declares. He pulls his hand back, trying to form a Ki blast in it, and thrusts it forward. It’s far weaker than normal, even weaker than what Videl was able to manage, but it... kinda worked! Goku grins, patting the girl on the head. “Haha, you really are your dad’s kid! That was smart, Izzy!”

She smiles happily. “Thanks, uncle Goku!”

Pantea rubs her chin. “So it’s a combination of the two... but this is a huge boon! Izzy, you just gave us another edge in getting rid of the Destron Gas!”

Videl returns to trying her magic, building up Wind around her fist, then thrusting it forward. The gust of power coming from it causes the trees to shake and move, pushing out of the way, branches snapping loudly. Well, looks like it does have a similar effect on magic, at the very least.

You quickly move to Izumi’s side, kneeling down. “Izzy, sweetie, are you sure all you’ve been doing is just pushing it away? Have you been feeling tired at all?”

“Huh?” she mumbles out in surprise. “...W-well not really? I mean... I’ve been worried about mom and dad, and I’ve been trying to keep the gas away from here, but I don’t feel especially tired...”

You place your hand on her head, breathing out “Samma Kammanta” as you try to make sure she’s okay. “Well, if you feel any weakness, any faintness of breath, tell us immediately, okay?”

“O-okay? But wh- ...oh.” She lowers her head a little. “S-sorry. I promise though I haven’t been doing anything like dad did.” she tells you. “At least, I haven been trying to do anything like that...”

You give her a hug. “Still, let’s just be on the safe side.”

Izzy nods. “Right, auntie Maple.”

“That said, Pantea’s right, you’ve just given us a big help here, Izzy.” you add with a smile. “We’ll have to let everyone know soon. But we also need to try to work out any more things we can with the Kaio-Ten while Pantea’s still able to hold it.” You look back at the two. “Videl, seemed you got an idea there. Want to test it out?”

“Maybe, maybe...”

“Could try both linking your focuses together, and making some kind of combined attack.” you mention.

“Ooh, ooh, there’s an idea! Videl, Pantea, try a combined Ki blast against me.” Goku powers up once more. “I still need some practice with this form. I need to see where my limits are, so I can start figuring out how to surpass them, just like you two.”

“Thaaat’s the gr-...Goku I know...” Pan mumbles out under her breath.

Videl looks at Pantea. “Well? Shall we?”

With confidence, the purple haired girl responds, “Let’s do this.”

Goku flies up into the air, moving away from the village, placing his hands forward and bracing himself. “Okay, ready when you are!”

Moving the focus of her Ki to her left hand, Videl starts to charge an energy attack. Pantea struggles, but eventually she manages to do the same. Flames and spiraling winds merge together as they add some magic to their attack. “All or nothing!” they declare, pulling their arms back, then, together, stomping forward as they thrust their hands up and fire. “HAAAAAA!”

Goku takes the attack, catching the spiraling red and green attack as they try to give it their all. “Come on, Pantea! Videl! Put everything you can into this!” he yells out.

While Videl can keep up the attack, Pantea’s starting to run out of steam. You feel like you want to boost her up again, but she telepathically tells you to let her do this. With everything she has, Pantea blasts her energy out, Videl matching her. Up in the air, Goku starts to struggle to hold the attack back. Peppa and Gohan look up, growing a little concerned.

“Gh-ggcckkh! Graahhh!” Goku roars, his aura blazing around him as he tries to hold the attack. He’s finally forced to push the blast upwards as Pantea collapses, Videl stopping her attack to catch her before she falls on her face.

The girl pants heavily, her body shaking. “G-guess that’s as much... as borrowed power... w-will get me... h-hah...”

Goku touches down, grinning. “That was amazing though! If that was just how much the two of you could do now... well, you’ll be catching up to us in no time! Haha, Yamcha’s gotta be thrilled with how far you’ve come.” He looks to Peppa and Gohan. “Heh, all of you keep getting stronger and stronger. It’s really something.”

“I’m gonna be the tuffest, dad!” Peppa declares. “Just you wait!”

You get to work telling everyone about what Izumi managed. You find out from Chi-chi that the Bansho fan replica was something she asked Melchior to help her with, a gift for her year spent in the Time Chamber, but she had no idea that the fan could blow away the Destron Gas too. Apparently, Melchior wasn’t completely sure about that himself, though he couldn’t be happier that things worked out the way they did.

Bulma tells you she’s reached a breakthrough with 19, and she might be able to get her up and running soon, while Trip informs you that Mark and Ginyu have finally exited the Time Chamber. She’s talked with Chi-chi about potentially putting Acer in there to help him recover, but she’s wondering if someone else should go in there instead, to get in some training while they still can.

There’s still precious little time left... what should you do?

You tell everyone that you’re going to work with Bulma, Dr. Briefs, and Trip on developing the Destron Gas countermeasure. Izzy agrees to help her mother try to clear out the gas in other places, using their Bansho Fans to at least clear out some areas that have had their machines smashed already. Pan decides to tag along with you to help, Peppa insisting she stay by your side too.

As you arrive on the Lookout, teleporting there with Pantea and Videl, the black-haired girl happily running to her dad and hugging him, you spot the Ginyu Force all gladly welcoming their Captain back. As Mark hugs his girl tight, the two of them spinning around for a moment, they start to catch each other up on what all has happened. You reach Trip, and she explains what she plans to do. “Much like the Black Water Mist, using the Sacred Water to help eliminate the corrupting influence in the air by spreading it across the Earth will at the very least alleviate the gas in the short term.”

“That makes sense. When Baby took over the Earth in my timeline, one of our allies was able to free everyone using that Sacred Water stuff.” Pan comments. “...Come to think of it, why didn’t he use it on Bulma first? That could’ve solved a lot of our issues afterwards...”

“A mind controlled Bulma working for any maniacs sounds like a nightmare...” you respond to her. “No telling what she could do if she went all evil genius on us.”

“There is a catch, though. I tried giving Acer some earlier, and while it cleared out the toxins eventually, I am not sure that it could do enough on its own for the amount of Destron Gas that’s spread across the planet.” Trip explains. “However... with Chi-chi and Izumi clearing out some areas from it, perhaps we could manage to cover most of the world, leaving certain pockets of the Destron Gas left.”

“And what about Bulma and Dr. Briefs?”

“If they could manufacture something as well, something that could aid the Sacred Water, we should be able to take care of those remaining pockets as well.” Trip tells you confidently. “Mr. Popo, we should head in once more to try and see if we can procure just a little bit more.”

“Very well, Kami.” the genie replies. Sugoro and his son offer to help them with their task, Yosei deciding to keep watch over the place with Piccolo.

You sense Chuu Lee and Pantea head over to Acer; apparently they plan on resting him in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber while the two of them try to train some more together to obtain the Kaio-Ten, perhaps have him help them with it when he wakes up, too. As Trip and Mr. Popo leave, you get in contact with Dr. Briefs, explaining the plan. He tells you, in turn, that he could go along with it, but he’ll need more samples from the destroyed Destron Gas machines.

Well, you’ve got plenty of THOSE lying around, don’t you? You tell Pan and Peppa that you’ll need some help with gathering the remnants of the machines. Peppa seems to want to stick by you again, buuuut you manage to get her mind on the task by deciding that it’ll be a race. Your daughter’s competitive side wins out, and she agrees to race around the Earth, gathering as much of the as she can. You head off in another direction, Pan flying off in a path opposite yours and Peppa’s.

It takes some time, but with the Raio-ken, you jump around from location to location, finding the ruined Destron Gas machines... and finding a few familiar faces along the way. You start off down below the Lookout, meeting Bora and Upa and their clan once again, and place the remnant parts in a storage capsule. You next head off to, to your surprise, the ruins of Red Ribbon HQ, and while there aren’t any people or even phantoms around there, you do get... just a little nostalgic when you pass by the cliff you, Goku, and Eighter fought that robot at so, so long ago. After that, you happen upon Giran’s village, Giran himself spotting you and pointing you in the direction of the destroyed Deston Gas machine. Passing by Baba’s Palace once more, Spike and her other fighters all proudly nod at you as you fly past.

You happen upon where you and Goku first met Yajirobe, finding the remains of another machine down there, and as you continue on... you spot the ruins of Sasebo, where you first encountered 19, 18, and 17. To your surprise, you find Godzilla and Gamera down there, Godzilla clearing out rubble (reluctantly) as Gamera, with a gigantic construction hat on, helps the city rebuild. Spotting Arale and her family down there tell you all you need to know about why they’re doing that, and after clearing up more scrap from one of the Destron Gas machines, you move off to another location. This time you show up at Papaya Island, ahh, home to the World Martial Arts Tournament. You even spot the Announcer guy and some of the monks near the still under-construction Tournament grounds, all of them waving up at you as you fly by.

One machine’s remains end up located on a volcanic island, that you just barely manage to clear before it starts erupting again. And with that done, next one takes you near... Kame House. And dad’s home.

You slow down as you head to Kame House, touching down and calmly walking forward. You open the door, spotting your dad near the kitchen. He turns his head, slowly walking toward you. “...Maple.”

You can barely even get out a “Hey dad” before he bonks you on the head with his staff. You saw it coming, sure, but... it wasn’t like it was going to hurt you. As soon as he lowers his staff, you hug him. “Sorry for worrying you, dad...”

“Again.” Roshi mumbles out, hugging you back.

“Again.” you repeat, chuckling slightly.

Roshi lets go of you. “Somehow I fear the thing that’ll do me in is either of you making me worry so much I’ll have a heart attack.”

Your eyes tear up just a little. “C-come on, dad, you’re too stubborn to give up the ghost that easily.”

Roshi sighs as you let go, walking towards his couch. “I take it there’s not much time left.”

You nod solemnly. “I am still in the middle of something. But... before I confront him, I wanted to see you again. Just one more time, dad. To apologize, first, but... well, to thank you, too.”

Roshi laughs. “Heh, you’ve done a lot to raise yourself up, kid. You’ve grown... well, not so much physically, buuut in other places. Places I’m sure Goku appreciates, eheheheh.”

You noogie him. “Veeerrry funny, dad. Annin still at her usual place?”

“Just got back from helping her.” He tosses you a capsule. “Cleared out one of those machines, too. Figured you’d want that when we were done.”

“”We owe a lot of that to you, you know.” You sit down as well, taking a moment to recall all the training you were given, all the time you spend as a Turtle School student, and then as a Turtle School master. “...Any last words of wisdom, before this all goes down?”

Roshi strokes his beard. “...What will you say when you finally meet him, Maple?”

You sit back, your mind racing through everything you’d WANT to say to Dr. Raichi. “Thaaaat said, when all of this is over, I expect to hear some wedding bells for you and Annin!” you declare, grinning cheekily.

Roshi flinches. “M-Maple...”

“I’m expecting it! Either you or Raditz will be next!” You stand up, ready to head off. “Take care, dad!”

He shakes his head. “I know I’ll just sound like a broken record if I say it again... so instead, I’ll tell you this. Make me proud.”

“...Thank you.”

You head off again, Turtle waving goodbye to you. You collect a few more of the ruined Destron Gas machines, finally making your way up north again. You sense that Pan and Peppa have gathered a lot of them as well, given how far and fast they’ve been traveling. You’re all about equidistant from Capsule Corp. now, so, you tell the girls to race back there. Peppa starts off with a bit of a lead, but seems to not realize both Pan and yourself are gaining on her. In fact, her overconfidence in her lead results in her not realizing the mistake until it’s too late, and even after she transforms again, it’s not enough to make up for lost time.

But to your surprise, it’s Pan that actually arrives at Capsule Corp. first, just barely ahead of you. “Phew! Been a while since I flew that fast.” she comments aloud.

“I’ll say. Made it a bit fair, but still, you’re pretty quick.” you praise the girl.

“Weeeell, I have been doing laps around the Earth since I was like, 4.” she replies pridefully.

Peppa touches down, pouting slightly at Pan. You look over to her. “There you are, sweetie! You get a lot of the Destron Gas machine scrap?”

She looks away, still pouting. “Uh-huh. I probably got more than her.” she mumbles under her breath.

“Well, I bet Dr. Briefs will appreciate that.” Pan states, walking in, tossing a capsule in the air and catching it.

Peppa marches in behind her.

You stop Peppa for a moment and pull her into a hug. “Sweetie. You can’t tell me you didn’t expect me to notice how you’ve been acting, right? I know something about her is bothering you.”

Peppa starts to shake in your arms. “...I’m just being dumb.” she mumbles out.

You stroke her hair gently. “Peppa, we both know that’s not true. You’re worried about something, and that something is connected to her.”

She tries to pull away, lowering her head. “Mnh.”

“No getting out of this one, sweetie. You know I’d be able to find you if you’re ever in trouble, right? Mama’s not going to let her baby girl get hurt.”

She trembles more. “W-wh...”

“Yes?”

Peppa looks up at you, her eyes watering up. “But why didn’t you come back sooner?”

...Ah. You’re starting to see why she’s upset. “Believe me, sweetie, I wouldn’t have been gone in the first place if I could help it. But there were things going on out there that had to be stopped, before they made everything here even worse. I don’t want anything coming to hurt my precious little Peppa, especially when I know I can stop it. Not gonna let anything hurt you, or Gohan, or your dad, or anyone.”

Peppa hugs you tight. “I just... I just... she...”

“You’re my only Peppa. I wouldn’t even dream of ever replacing you.”

She starts to sob softly into your shoulder. “I’m... I’m...”

“Shh, shh... it’s okay. I’m sorry for worrying you, sweetheart.”

You give her a moment to calm down. Once Peppa’s able to wipe away her tears, she looks down, embarrassed. “Guess I’m not that much of a big girl yet if I’m still doing this...”

“You’re still growing up so fast. You’ll be big before you know it.” Standing up, pat your daughter on the head. “Now, let’s go save the world!”

Peppa nods. “Yeah!”

Okay, so. A few big things:

First up, Dragon Ball Tuffle Quest Z will be coming to an end around thread #80. Maybe before, maybe one after, but that will be it. This will take us through the final battle with Dr. Raichi and Hatchiyak. After that, well... I'm probably going to put the quest on pause for a while. Maybe lasting until Summer. I will probably still be running Zelda in the meantime, but I'd rather take some time to get things more organized for when this all starts up again.

Second, well... y'all remember the issues we were having around end of January, beginning of February? I'd rather we not go through with something like that again. While internet connection has remained steady since that incident last year, getting just a little worried about any captcha changes that happen here. It's remained steady so far, but if there's another set of issues like that again, we'll be moving. That said, I would like to know, do any of y'all feel like we should move sooner, rather than later? It would be over to anonkun or fiction live or whatever it's calling itself now. It wouldn't be until after Tuffle Quest Z is complete, but if y'all would like that instead, please, let me know.

Thank you all again for sticking with me for this long. I'd like to apologize for how things have slowed down, work and other life stuff have been kinda getting in the way. But I sincerely appreciate y'all continuing with this for so long.
