/qst/ - Quests

Ok guys!

Just to reiterate, I'll be on the road to Nebraska most of the week, and be spending another day or two in the south end of Omaha sometime in the middle of the week. I'm going to TRY and push two updates a night on the road, but don't count on anything during our on site days. Probably will be spending the majority of the coming weekend on the road too, so most likley we won't get a thread at all then either. Sorry about this weekend, by the way- I know I promised a good long thread, but it's been kinda hectic and it's only really just now calmed down. One of these days I'll win the lottery and not have to do anything, haha!

Anyway. Archives here: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Strike%20Witches%202016

Starting to get a bit longer, haha. Still, not too long to jump in, and if you're interested in something, ask! Odds are good I haven't gone over it at all yet!

So that's all that, let's get this week started! I'll try to do this and another post at least tonight, maybe three but don't count on that. I know, I know, you don't count on anything coming from me, haha!

+++

“They fine, maman.” You say, smiling. “Dad still be strugglin to talk to me, but aunt merlin be fun to talk to.”

Your mother nods. “Dat sound about right. Don’t be holdin it against your daddy, no, he be havin a different life ta be leadin, oui?”

You nod. “Oui Maman.”

It was a point of contention- one of the few- between you and your mother. You grew up effectively without a father, to the point where you to this day still don’t quite know what to make of Frank. While he hasn’t been distant, like, for example, Tabitha, it’s still apparent every time you talk, that he wasn’t really around to watch you grow up the same way he was with all of your half-sisters save Elizabeth. And she, at least, has had the relative luxury of growing up with her father available- they even see each other fairly regularly.

It’s not that he didn’t seem to want you around- far from it. He wrote and called frequently, and made plenty of effort to ‘stop by’ when he was in Texas. He saw a couple of your games, even, and sat up in the stands when you were practicing your three gun skills on the range once or twice.

But even for all that, it seems like you’re a bit of a mystery to him- one he can’t quite solve. Aviation seems to be the one common thread in your life so far, and even then, well. How does one really talk to Frank Bishop about flying? The man’s a legend, afterall, even if he is your father.

She smiles again. “Bon. I know he be difficult ta talk to sometime, but you be mindin he came up different dan you, an dat no matta what, both me an him proud o what you doin. You remember dat, Morgan. Your parents proud o you, an you be doin fine if ya keep on like ya been.”

“Oui maman.”
>>
“Don’t you oui maman me, boy, you fin out how fast I can get back aboard a carrier ta snatcha up by ya ear.” She grins, softening the threat- joke though it may be, you’re probably better off treating at as a legitimate threat on her part. “Now. Your maman gotta go, lizbeth got a game tonight an I tol her I’d be there. You be good an you remember dat your maman love ya.”

“Love ya too, maman.”

And with that she signs off, her icon going from green to gray on your sidebar.

You sit there for a second, pulling up your E-mail- other than some promotional materials and the usual newsletters from the competitive shooting league you’re in and the usual steam sales, there isn’t much there. Hardly even any junk, honestly, which kind of surprises you.

You hear footfalls on the deck behind the closed door before it opens, reveling Rebecca who pauses upon seeing you at the table before giving a slight shrug and walking in.

“Morning.” She greets, after a second.

You nod in return.

“Good flight?” She asks after she walks around the table, staying a bit farther away from it than you’d think normal, just skirting the racks, before taking a seat facing the TV and reaching over to turn on the Xbox.

Maybe talk hobbies with Frank? I mean I think we settled on guitar, harmonica, and automotive stuff? In addition to our speed shooting and football?
>>
Threadly reminder that this is best systems operator, Shōi Megumi Sakaomoto
>>
>>2342766
Seems like a lot stuff, I mean a sport is a time consuming hobby and Morgan did/does several and more importantly is good at them. You can never have too many hobbies but at a certain point you stop being able to get any better at them, you simply run out of time.
>>
>>2342824
That's where talent comes in really, and things you do just for funsies. Obviously football and speed shooting were/are things we do on a competitive level, where as the guitar, harmonica and automotive stuff would seem like more of stuff we do for fun and not really to be good at. You don't need to be able to play Through the Fire and Flames to be able to strum out a decent melody on the guitar, especially if you have the mind for it and you practice like 15-20min a day, at least until you get the feel for it, and the automotive stuff is more practical skills territory.

[x] It went well, yes.

“It went well, yes.” you say, flipping your laptop closed.

She nods. “The Imperial Japanese commander at sand island sent her regards and thanks for the flyby.” she says. “And she wished to relay that she wants to extend her thanks in person when she arrives on the carrier today.”

“She’s coming here?”

Becc nods again. “Yep. Pretty normal, the ones going back to the home islands will usually hitch a ride with a carrier or other on the way to the west. Never a big thing, we just put them in accommodation berthing and they stay out the way. All you’ll have to do anyway is say Hi and accept her thanks or whatever, no big.”

She frowns when skyrim starts up, then shrugs and loads up her save. “Besides, end of the day, they’re not bad to make friends with. They tend to know the best places to drink around Yokosuka.”

You shrug. “I don’t drink much.”

She snorts. “Fancy that.”

Or, you know, a non-witch civie. But sure, I'm onboard with that. Witches have a lot of advantages, but they come with miles of strings attached. Someone disconnected from that mess would be a refreshing change of pace. And the witch "horse-trading" thing deeply unnerves me. Christ, that's creepy.

I think a lot of it is that the social scenes (which are all we've had so far) have been dragged out with waiting, and Ghost really wants to drive home the tension I guess. Morgan's not much of a talker, we don't have a super close relationship with most family/other witches, there's only social conflicts, and the only person that really feels on our side so far is Stasya, who we've talked to twice. The other Fenrir crew has their own hangups/agenda and they're absent, our own RIO doesn't even want to fly and has to use adapters that we were introduced to by learning they're worse than VDNI. It's rough, and that's not even getting into the supernatural shit too. It feels very us versus the world right now.

Add on that we get 1 post a day on average, with some skipping, and it can feel real bogged down. Shit, it took Ghost 3 hours to write 150 words that boiled down to 'visitor's coming, also I'm kinda a bitch'. I think moving to longer posts at a more consistent 2-3 days would be beneficial for this week-long social stuff, with shorter posts/delays for more action-y stuff. The 1 post a day regularity is nice, it just feels like we're progressing extraordinarily slowly.

I'm hopeful that once things heat up in a war sense everyone will chill out a bit. And maybe Morgan can show off some of the extra help he'll be getting that Frank didn't; I just hope that our RIO doesn't suck some of that helpful voodoo because she doesn't want to fly. As far as waifus go, I'd expect us to be involved with specops more than Frank was considering our mother, so that's probably a reasonable expectation.

> It feels very us versus the world right now.
I doesn't seem that bad yet, but it does feel like it's headed that way.

More content is almost always better, but not at the cost of the QM. I don't think he could maintain that pace without something giving.

A war would hopefully set everyone's priorities straight, but that's not a sure thing.
Personally, I hope we spit in the God's faces; Frank never needed their help, and certainly never asked for it. Morgan will get by just fine without it.
We're more likely to interact with the specops guys than Frank was, but we're still a fighter pilot to their ground-pounding. Short of another 'steal-a-plane' plan, I dunno why we'd interact significantly.
>>
>>2344610

I mean Frank definitely needed their help to not die, which nearly happened twice (I think?) and did happen once, so there's that.

And i wasn't saying longer posts 2-3 times a day, I meant a longer, more cohesive post every few days. Probably a similar amount, maybe less, "content" than now but with the ability to flesh things out a bit more.

As far as significant interactions, mostly because it'd be cool really. Didn't really think too much about it.
>>

Eh, I'm still dubious of their claim to have helped him; There wasn't hide nor hair of divine assistance in '89. But now suddenly, now Gods exist and they totally helped dude seriously so you should help us with this thing and maybe we'll help you. I'm still not convinced it all isn't in Morgan's head.

Frank got by on his own talent as a pilot and his status as a Gnome. There was never any indication divinity had anything to do with that. Ice has no idea how she pulled the resurrection off, and likely wouldn't be able to do it again, but divinity wasn't even mentioned at the time. Witches have been around for a long time, and I strongly doubt the Swamp witches would be the only ones with knowledge of the Gods if they existed or did anything magic-wise. Someone would have brought it up.

We get it, you're mad your mom makes you go to church when you're trying to be the kind of douchey atheist who whines about gods in fantasy settings.
Doesn't change that as far as Morgan, the character we are playing as, is concerned, the loa are very much real and active in this world.
So stop trying to convince people to spit in their collective eye, it'd be a completely out-of-character action.

You let it pass without comment- it's not worth getting in any kind of argument over, and she doesn't seem the kind to actually listen. Your maman told you about this kind of behavior once- she's trying to justify not liking you, to get you to rise to her challenge and justify to herself her attitude. While you're not real fond of her right now, you're almost convinced it's a case of pushing you away preemptively.

She shrugs when you greet the comment with silence, fast-traveling from whiterun to dawnstar as she does so. “I wonder if she knows you're here.” She says, half to herself. “I mean, isn't your Aunt married to the crown Princess?”

“Aunt Jess and her imperial highness the crown princess Katsumi are married, yes.” You respond.

“I bet someone just so happened to pass that along.” She says, distractedly, as she reviews her quest log- from the quick glance you got, she's on the dark brotherhood chain at the moment. For her character, it'll be a bit of a challenge- you doubt her sneak stat is all that high, and she's not too terribly high level.

“Probably.” You agree. “Just like I'm sure she's going to be there to greet us in Yokosuka.”

That gets her attention- she looks back at you, pausing her game as she tries to work out how to get to the assassination target. “To greet you, you mean.”

That almost makes you laugh. “Not just me. Aunt Jessica is- well. You'll see.”

She hmphs. “We're not that important.” She says, though her voice indicates she really wishes what you were saying was true. She turns back to her game- brutally murdering the assassination target in daylight then fighting it out with the guards. She gets three of them before having to run. “We were last in line for anything before you showed up.”

[] Write in! (Yeah?)

“Yeah?” you ask, swiveling in your seat to be able to face her more directly. She nods, pausing her game again to look back over at you.

“Yeah.” She confirms. “Oh, don't get me wrong, we weren't neglected or anything, no one is, but no one's at strength except Spellcaster, no one's converted to the variable strikers except spellcaster, and now all of a sudden you show up, and we're right in the spotlight. Reinforcements, full compliment of variable strikers, the works. Funny how that works out.”

You shrug, unsure of what to say- what can you really say to that?

“No worries.” You respond, unbothered by it. It's not the first time, and you're sure it won't be the last someone holds your family against you.

“I'm not gonna beat myself up over it.” She says, pausing the game again and looking back around at you again. “But I'm not gonna blame you if you're pissed cos we've been bitches.”

Anon, allow me to quote from the FN website.

>Based on the FN® MK 17, the SSR is capable of sub-minute of angle accuracy out to and beyond 1,000 yards.
>Based on the FN® MK 17
It's a fucking SCAR-H.

Although on the subject of gun autism, what does Morgan use in competition?
I'm thinking CZ, both because Universal Best Girl would approve, and because they're beautiful pistols.
>>
>>2346053
I'm well aware of what it is, and what it is is a barrel and gas system incompatible with the Mk.17 using the Mk.17 Lower receiver.

It ain't a Mk.17
>>

>[] It's no big deal.

"It's no big deal, I've dealt with worse."
>>
>>2346063
No. It's NOT a Mk. 17. But it IS a SCAR-H.
To quote that same page on the manufacturer's fucking website again:
>Now type-designated as the MK 20 SSR, the FN SCAR® Sniper Support Rifle (SSR) is a tailored design for long-range precision fire applications while also providing capability to fight close in.
>FN SCAR® Sniper Support Rifle (SSR)
>FN SCAR®
It is a SCAR-series rifle, chambered for Real Fuckin' NATO.
And that chambering is all the "-H" means.
A Mk. 17 is always a SCAR-H. But a SCAR-H is not always a Mk. 17, due precisely TO the existence of the SSR, as well as it's annoying little brothers the PR and TPR.

MORGAN HAS SEEN SOME SHIT
>>
>>2346053
Morgan uses a Beretta 92fs Fusion.

Just for max decadence.
>>
>>2345584
>[X] It's no big deal.

Just gotta roll with the situation you're in.
>>
>>2346379
I doubt it. Berettas are infamously hard to tweak or fiddle with, much less turn into a full-blown race gun.
Hell, they don't even much like the simplest of aftermarket parts.
>>
>>2346053
>what does Morgan use in competition?
That'd depend on what comps he was doing wouldn't it? Different guns for different roles.
>>
>>2346744
If he competes in multiple categories, then yeah he'd have multiple pistols set up for them. But most competitive shooters have a preferred base model.
As for the rifle and shotgun sides of the 3-gun triangle, the rifles tend to be custom AR builds so it's a way more nuanced and detailed discussion, and I don't know from shotguns so...
>>
>>2346781
He definitely should have an over-under double-barrelled shotgun.
>>
>>2346943
Double barrels are hilariously inappropriate for the nature of the shotgun stages in 3-gun.
3-gun is a "tactical" shooting sport. Lots of targets, at varying ranges, very quickly.
Hell, you don't even see PUMPS in 3-gun because they're just too slow between shots, much less double barrels.

na, see, he can have a double barrel, he just needs himself on of these.

The DP-12 is cool as fuck, I've been meaning to get one for a while now. But again, you don't see them in 3-gun for a reason. 3-gun shotguns are for the most part very simple "high speed low drag" semi-autos like Benelli M2s and M4s, Mossberg 930s, Remington Versamaxes, that kind of thing, or classic pumps like Remington 870s, Mossberg 590s, the Benelli Nova (which has a rabid fanbase), and so on.
The DP-12 has very unusual ergonomics, and a relatively unorthodox reload, which thus far has, in conjunction with the second barrel just not being that useful, has kept it out of 3-gun.

Also, I'm not even sure if the DP-12 is legal in any division other than Open, where it would get dunked on by the crazy raceguns people run. Open is the only division where you see Saigas and other mag-fed shotguns, and consider that those magazine-feds can and do lose to the crazy tube-feds with speedchutes and x-rails and shit that see use in Open.
>>
>>2347204
Fuck x-rails btw.
>>
>>2347316
Any particular reason? I'm only vaguely familiar with them, don't really know enough to cast judgement.
>>
Hey guys! might not update tonight, pushing hard to make Omaha. ETA is around 21 local and i gotta be up in the morning cos im crew lead, basically. Well see how it shakes out but i cant promise a thread tonight
>>
>>2347501
Don't sweat it Ghost, do what ya gotta do.
>>
>>2347443
They look goofy as fuck
>>
>>2347569
True, but it'd seem that having a quick reload that you just twist into position would be pretty damn useful, and function>>>>>>>>>form.
>>
>>2347569
Their owners are also self-righteous anti-gun as fuck and make posts mocking their customers for giving them stupid amounts of money all the time.

Fuck Xproducts
>>
>>2347756
Well.
Fuck those guys then.
Is there anybody making a "just different enough to be legally distinct so they can't sue us" knockoff?
>>
>>2347794
not really, but fuck the xrail, its a goofy fragile piece of shit anyway

just stick to mag fed ones, hell even mossberg is making mag fed shotguns and they have a really good mag design, just need to fit it to a 930JM
>>
>>2347802
True, and if memory serves x-rails are Open class only anyways, so at that point you might as well use a mag.
>>
there's the SRM 1216 shotgun
>>
the magazine is pretty much the same thing but detachable and manually rotated far as i can tell

[] It’s no big deal.

“It’s no big deal.” You say, watching as she pauses the game again to look through her inventory. Why she’s got about forty brooms, you’re not sure, but you don’t really want to say anything.

“Let me guess, you’ve dealt with worse?” She asks.

“Not really that, but I’m used to it.” You respond.

She looks back at you again. “How you bring attention with you?”

You nod. “Yeah.”

She sighs. “At least it helps out for something, right?”

“It is nice to be useful.” You allow with a slight smile- one that gets a similar smile out of her.

“It is kinda funny to see Kat stress out about getting the reinforcements sorted out with the CAG.” She says. “place is going to be pretty crowded after our port call in Japan, I’ll tell ya that.”

You nod again, and she laughs lightly and shakes her head- the first you’ve really heard her laugh. “I almost feel bad for her, ya know? But Kat’s a control freak and won’t let her XO- me- help so now she’s running around like crazy trying to get everything by the book because she’s convinced they’re only going to send top of their class witches and she’s going to have to impress them. I’ve never seen her run around like this.”

[] Not ever?
[] She’s probably not wrong though.

So she's on the low level "grab everything so I can sell it for more money" stage. Or she's on the high level "oh fuck, I forgot to start looting weapons and armour when I was low level, and now I need lots of gold to buy good shit" panic.

Not too sure to be honest.
