Schwarzhund took Istanbul with him when he left, mission and mortality slipping into the dark with his passing. Time has one foot on either side of the line--you don’t know if you’ve been here an hour or an era. All you can feel, vaguely, is its passage.

The alarm-bells and critical integrity warnings your systems scream at you have faded into nonsense words and empty noise. The smoke curls overhead, ever onward with your thoughts.

Emerald lies beside you, staring into that deepening dark as it goes. Unmoving, unblinking, and utterly silent, still pinned to the ground by his own weapons. At first, you weren’t even sure he was still alive. You tried to talk to him, but he hasn’t said a word since his teacher--your teacher--left. His claws, stained with the blood of the human who started all of this with his end, are all that remain. You can almost imagine them tinged with vaporized blood, crackling politely where the Black Dog left them, buried in his student’s palm.

You steal another look over at him. Those green eyes have fallen dull, almost tranquil-looking on Em’s impassive, expressionless face. What seems like a lifetime ago, you remember them wide and broken, the twin pupils composing either optic almost separating as they shuddered in place, take it all in and finding too much.

Not that you’re doing much better. It’s hard to do much at all, really. Your comms occasionally squeal and snarl at you, but you’re guessing they went out when you took that hit to the face. Your ear is still present via absence, audio only coming in on one side. Not that there’s much to hear, just the soft crackle of distant flame.

But then, finally, crunching boots over rubble and glass. Flares Firefly kneels over you, helmet receding to reveal the concern plain on her face. She kneels and offers you a hand. Dimly, you realize you must have taken it, because you’re suddenly back upright, her shoulder bearing your weight as she rises.

Like a band pulling taut, time seems to jump forward to account for prior laxity. Lifesavers, triage, a quiet huddle aside as they evaluate Em. Being eased back down, sitting, beside him, as they tell him not to move. At his lack of response, they repeat themselves, clearly and slowly--do not move. Your shielding is critical. Do not move.

He never replies, never looks away from the sky and whatever he isn’t finding there.

More crunching infrastructure, and Gopher’s legs fill your vision. What looks like asphalt clings to his boots, cast, cooled, and hardened. Glass flakes glitter within like diamonds in obsidian, bonded to the tar. You look up at him, and he nods, then tilts his chin over to Emerald. You shake your head, and he nods again, eyes narrowing slightly as he kneels beside you both.

“They’re calling you the hero of the Bosphorus,” he says. “You and Vidra. She cut their water force in half mid-retreat. The bridge she built helped evacuate civilians from the worst part of the fighting. She says she would have never made it if you hadn’t handled Amphitrite.”

Emerald says nothing. The Lifesavers mill and mull, examining him from all angles. Gopher checks a sigh, even the stolid veteran betraying the weight of combat fatigue, looking back and forth between Overland’s Captains.

Good evening, and hello one and all!

I'm doing okayish--very unstable time for a while there, but things are finally calming down. That said, I wound up being slapped on a real bastard of a diet today by my physical trainer--a little salty about it, but it's the kind that ends after one month, so my usual skepticism is disarmed.

How's everyone doing tonight?

Damn, I'd been too busy to really get into figuring this out.

>Arrest Buster
I'm guessing we don't stick the butt end into our buster, because that's nothing like a couched lance. My current assumption is that there are two little indents in the Lance. One slots into a small mount on the buster, while the other slots into a similar mount on the armor

>Channels carved in for the electric lance shenanigans
I'm guessing they're on the inside, but now I'm stumped on how to visualize it on the outside.
So far, I'm thinking about a spiral pattern along the handle, which doesn't quite match Anode's general look, but spirals are commonly used for EM resistance and outputting a singular focused signal

Since we're not getting DNA for this fight, I'm not expecting much new things in the shop list.

So I'm angling for any of these:
>Jumpjet - Extended Charge Projection
gottagofast

>Shred Zone
>Redshift
either of these provide zoning if we want to purposely spec for beating Em.

>Improved Conductivity
I still think we should do small upgrades to open up to things like saber resistance.

Okay, I need to cook a bunch of stuff I really don't want to cook (have I mentioned I already hate this diet?) but I'll put off 90% of it to after I get a post out. That said, right now I need coffee like Anode needs a new therapist.
>>
>>2341037
diet? You mean nut flours, coconut flour, that kind of thing? Or just leafy greens?
>>
>>2341268
Whole 30, it's called. TL;DR you spend a month ommitting dairy, grains, legumes (WHY), alcohol of any stripe, and any added sugars, natural or otherwise. After that month you reintroduce food groups one at a time so you can figure out if you're having adverse reactions to any of them that you may have been dealing with unknowingly your entire life.

My biggest vexation with it is figuring out decent breakfasts for the incorrigibly lazy. I predict a lot of eggs in my future.

Also stand by, I've been writing and revising for two hours straight now. This one has been tough.
>>
>>2341285
HAH, I've done that before. I can tell you about my experience and what I recommend on IRC so it doesn't clutter the thread.

The short answer is meat and veggies though. You are technically not restricted at all in those 2 categories....but in practice it's a bit more complex.
>>
>>2341285
>ommitting dairy, grains, legumes (WHY), alcohol of any stripe, and any added sugars, natural or otherwise.

That one's a bit different than the one I was on a few years ago—I omitted all grains and all sugars—but in 4 months, I dropped 50 pounds, and though I was (as you'd expect) a lot hungrier than usual at the start, after a month or so on it, I definitely felt like I had more energy.

It's a bear to keep up, though, not just because you can't eat stuff you like, but because it's ridiculously hard to find food that you haven't made yourself that fits the diet.

I've been meaning to answer this for ages and kept forgetting, let me get on that while I try to shake down a proofreader.

Arrest Buster does in fact go down the buster barrel, but then Anode can lock his arm against his side like you suggested.

The channels are similar to those on Anode's armor, most noticeable in S1's portrait. They run along the surface planes as little grooves with the channels recessed inside. They glow when charged.
>>
>>2341303
Yeah, I'm no stranger to dieting and weight loss--though now I'm trying to actually build muscle, have been for a year or so--but I've never had a restrictive food group diet before. It's a hassle because my go-to quick foods are all off-limits now so I have to change up the game.

Grimacing, you pull yourself up more fully, claw the world back to you and force it to make sense. You try to tap into that fury as Schwarz turned his back on you. “It was Schwarzhund,” you say, feeling the creeping heat in your voice--and beside you, Em’s eyes open more fully.

“I know,” Gopher replies. “Kangawa was broadcasting live.”

“Of course he was,” you spit bitterly. “Am I looking forward to another suspension?”

“Over my dead body,” your CO says bluntly. “That goes for both of you. Not after tonight.”

That gets your attention. “How bad is it?”

He snorts. “Taking things from the wrong side of this, Anode.”

“We did well,” Flares adds. “Really, really well.”

“Casualties well under estimates, doubly so for infrastructure. We disabled or eliminated a number of officers. Vidra penned in half their water force and Sixth demolished them.”

“Silver linings,” you mutter.

Gopher reaches out and takes you by the shoulder, and gives you a sharp shake. “Listen when I’m talking to you. This was Overland’s most successful urban op in its history, by far.”

“Doesn’t--” You pause, remembering prior conversations just like this one--of course it doesn’t feel like it. “Yeah.”

He nods, apparently satisfied. “If you absolutely have to have some bad news, Tanker got away. Somehow.”

Rezador--you hadn’t registered his presence until just now--stalks into view with a growl, looking every bit as mangled as you (if not more). “Tanker Tigershark will not be dealt with by the Fourth,” he says bluntly, casting a disdainful glance across you and Em.

“What, because you couldn’t manage it?” you ask, a little too pleased with his damage.

He casts a scathing glare your way. “Think, for a change. Anyone with the strength lacks the mobility to bring him down. Anyone with the mobility lacks the strength. And you,” he adds, “would be torn apart with both.”

You meet his challenge--he’s not fucking with you, not today. Pushing Flares away gently, you draw yourself up to meet his eyes. “Fuck with me, Rezador. See what happens.”

He scoffs dismissively and strides right by, ignoring your challenge and rounding on Gopher. “And how did Vidra let him get away? His delayed retreat was the opening she exploited.”

“Punched right through,” Gopher replies, his tone suggesting Rezador reexamine his attitude before he throws accusations. “He’s dashed a blockade or two in his life. Still, he just accidentally made a chokepoint for the rest to get caught trying to squeeze through. And Amphitrite--”

“Amphitrite got away,” Emerald says quietly.

Rezador’s whole body pivots as his eyes snap to cold-blooded rage.

“I had a choice,” Em murmurs. “Drew her out of the shallows and away from the city. Couldn’t catch her out that far. She was too fast.”

Rezador takes a purposeful step closer. Behind him, Gopher tenses up, and Flares steps between the two of you, raising an arm.

“Then why did you engage there?” He asks, deliberate and razor-edged.

“Less damage. Let Marine get through in case I went down. Fewer casualties.”

Rezador is stock-still for a long, long minute. “I see.”

Then he turns and kicks the saber buried in Em’s shoulder full-force, the blade carving a deep wound out and through.

Instantly, all weapons are on Rezador as the Lifesavers move to body-block him, Emerald’s hissed breath vanishing in the chaos. Dimly, you make out the blade guttering and dying in its arc, the hilt disintegrating into broken components in the sky.

Ignoring them all, Rezador simply strides away, pushing through a pair of Berets manning a beam pad. “Clearly, you learned nothing. We will start again from the beginning.”

“Em?” You ask. “Are you okay?”

“No,” he mutters, eyes still skyward. “No, I am not okay.”

“Stay still,” one of the Lifesavers says. “We will have to wait until the batteries…”

But Em doesn’t stay still, simply reaching over with his unpinned arm and pulling another saber up and out. He does the same as they try to stop him, freeing his legs, and finally tears his hand through Schwarz’s discarded claws, fairly well shearing it in half. He stands up, cool as you please, expression dead even, and turns to follow after Rezador.

“You don’t have to deal with him, Captain,” Gopher says.

Em looks at Gopher, expression finally softening, just a little--for a scant moment, he looks apologetic. “Yes, I do. He’s my only ticket to Diamond. I have nothing else left.”

Silence reigns as the night deepens over Istanbul.

"I swear I will noogie you through your helmet if you start that again. I'm right beside you, your sister is alright, India and Flares have your back, and in the end, Gopher is right. We did good, as much as I want to take a fishing trip picture with Tanker dangling by his legs and smack some sense into Schwarz.
War is hell, and it sure seems to want to drag us into it. But, no way am I going to let it. I'll keep fighting, and keep doing what I can to help. That includes you too, Emerald."

Incidentally, if we are the hero of the bospherous, do we get the sort of stuff India got? Probably not as much hazard pay, but man if a upgrade or two from the good boy bin would be nice.

>Em looks at Gopher, expression finally softening, just a little--for a scant moment, he looks apologetic. “Yes, I do. He’s my only ticket to Diamond. I have nothing else left.”

Gotta be honest, his determination to hide up his own ass here is pissing me off.

Is "pour your angst into your work and drink heavily in your off time" seriously his biggest takeaway from Schwarz? Because it doesn't look like it worked all that well for Schwarz.

Also, "nothing else left"? What the hell does that make Sapphire, or even Anode? Chopped liver? Spare change? I don't know how that metaphor works for Reploids.

Has he even tried asking Flares out? He could just compliment her sleek design and flying skills and see how she reacts, it ain't rocket science.

I can't vote on this, everything I can think of would result in a shouting match in the middle of a burning city. Is the subtle approach too subtle for him? At least a fiery row would still be better than Sullen Emerald being all murder-zombie around the place.
>>
>>2341421
I think he means "nothing else left" as far as leads to Diamond's killer.

You try to lean on your anger like you leaned on Flares. Unfortunately, the best you can manage, tired and low as you are, is sullen. “Em, I swear to God.”

He doesn’t look back, marching toward the field pad Rezador disappeared through.

You press on, voice sullen and humorless. “If you keep on like you’ve been keeping on, two things will happen--you’ll die, and I will rail your sister.”

He pauses at that, before he chuckles weakly. “Yeah, all right.”

“Damn,” you mutter.

Geneva is a sight both welcome and alien, when you return--you’re gently steered the opposite of the usual path to medical, and you realize you’re in the new quarters, with the repair facilities moved to match.

Ursa--battered to hell and gone, hydraulic fluid running in rivulets down cratermarked plating--gives you a hearty cheer and a wave, nearly clearing the decks of two Lifesavers with the barrel of his gun. Flares--mostly fine, wing aside--smiles tiredly, arms folded and leaning against the wall.

You’re technically second-up on the slab, but Rezador (third) jumped the line rather forcefully--and Emerald’s nowhere to be found.

I kinda DO blame him, his reckless attck without regard for his own life almost got Anode killed as well, and if he doesnt realize it, he needs to. We could have been a little less curb-stomped if he kept his head a bit in that initial Schwarz attack. I dont think we could win, but I dont think we would have lost as badly, where only his whim kept us alive.
>>
>>2343762
...No. No, not this time.

You remember the last time Em nipped off to the Pond to get trashed instead of repaired--and he was a lot better off that time. Somehow, though, you doubt you’ll be hauling him out of here this time.

You hadn’t really fully processed the damage (physical and otherwise) on his tiny frame when you enter. The place is hushed, and you don’t miss a lot more eyes on you than you’d expect, even coming off a big-ticket mission. The crowd’s already parted, leaving a clear shot to the bar. Even from back here, you can make out the grievous injury he isn’t getting fixed.

His back is bare metal gray, helmet to boots. You actually see the glint of bottles in the lamplight through his chassis, holes punched clean through his shoulder, his chest, one arm, either leg. One hand dangles at his side in two halves, connected threadbare by his wrist, palm split from the ragged wound left by Schwarz’s claws.

In his good hand, he’s nursing a glass.

You march up, heat building, and you see his posture stiffen as he hears you. “Wait.”

“The hell wi--”

”Wait.”

Max approaches almost reluctantly, leaving the small back room, his ancient face incapable of expressing the worry in his tone. “I turned off the news after you left, it was riling up the crowd. What happened?”

Em casts a glance over to you, head bowed low. “... You do it. I can’t.”

You grimace. “It was Schwarz, Max.”

He goes very, very quiet, and very, very still.

“I just…” Em closes his eyes, and takes a huge gulp of what you now realize is an entire bottle of nanite suspension. You realize his hand is shaking, and you doubt it’s from his injuries. “Wanted you to know.”

“I see,” Max says quietly.

You grab Em’s bracer, and push his glass back to the counter. “This isn’t helping.”

He leans away from you, trying to lever enough strength to pull his glass up. “Nothing’s GOING to help, Anode.”

“Bullshit!” You force his hand back down. “Do you think he’d want you moping like this, if he was in his right mind?”

Em whips around with a snarl, taking you aback at the burst of ferocity. “Do you think he WASN’T?” he shouts. “Did he SOUND out of his fucking gourd to you?”

“No, but you did,” you snap back hotly. “What the fuck was that, Em?!”

He goes silent, turning away from you and the bar. “I don’t know.”
>>
>>2344642
“Bullshit.”

“Anode, I have never lost it like that before in my life,” he says glumly. “I saw him, and Kangawa, and I just… I wasn’t trying to kill him. I was trying to hurt him. As fast and as badly as I could.”

He clenches his fists, a spark jumping between the two halves of his split hand at your side, actually jumping your capacitor a percent. The handle on his glass comes off with a dainty little ‘clink!’ and Max discretely slides the drink away.

“Fine,” you reply, breaking the uncomfortable silence again. “What about Sapphire? Fuck, what about me? That’s ‘nothing left?’”

He glances up at you from the corner of one eye. “That’s... not what I meant.”

“Then what was it, huh?” You ask, resisting the urge to smack him as you finally release his arm.

He exhales. “I wasn’t saying I had no one left. I was saying I don’t have anything left. I’ve got nothing, Anode. I can’t… deal with this any more.”

Max looks between the two of you, and graciously retreats, leaving you some semblance of privacy (after a shouting match in a crowded bar, at least).

“What’s next, huh?” Em continues, looking up at you--from what was left in that bottle, you’re guessing he’s got a good, hard drunk ahead of him, and it’s just hitting him now. “What next? Who next? Is it gonna be Sapphire? You? ...Me? Dead? Maverick? Both, either?”

I'm still pushing to call X. Even if it exceeds authority or practical application of resources and X's time, right now we're acting as Em's friend....not a captain. Maybe take a swig of nanites for plausible deniability.
>>
>>2344865

>>
Honestly, there's some low-level hunters that probably COULD casually call up X, but Anode isn't on that list.
>>

How about we pause a moment here, realize that we barely know X (or Zero), and call Frog instead? You know, Em's old friend? Vested interest in his well-being? Also friends with Schwarz?
>>
>>2344647
>This isn’t working. You need to tap in someone else for this. (Specify)

X is usually busy, and way above our pay grade. India is too abrasive to be useful here.

The only person I can think of that could work with this is Frog. He's known Em and Schwarz for a long time... but I don't know if we even have a way to contact him, now that he's retired. Maybe Comms would know? We'd probably owe some big favors after this, but it is kind of a personal emergency...

>>
>>2344991
Because he was CO of the Fourth Overland from the very start of the Sigma Rebellion until then, and didn't step down by virtue of being killed, crippled, or turned.

Also, since it's still being discussed, I'll go ahead and be a wet blanket and let you know you wouldn't be able to get ahold of X.

Grach: he's lost all his siblings to questionable circumstances and he's surprisingly well adjusted

That human guy who joined after Jagwire if he's alive : lost his friend and his arm, still kept going.

Susan and the Bravely Broken: they just saw a huge number of their comrades either turn traitor or die. They're still going.

It'll take a fresh face and enough shock to get past Em's mental armor to get through. X would be sufficently so?

X is a really swell guy. But Em isn't alone in this, X has a full workload (we X3 now), special missions too, and he's also the face of the Hunters no matter how smug Halcyon gets.

Asking him to come talk to some dude he barely knows by a guy he met for like 15 minutes is pretty presumptuous considering we're asking reploid Elvis/Adam/Jesus all in one.

You hate to do this to him, but you need an expert. Someone close to Em who isn’t you, who he’ll actually listen to. Sitting quietly beside Em, you say nothing as he helps himself to the bar--tossing his datapad, whole, behind it without much of a thought. As it tumbles, you see a lot more digits than you really know how to process.

Hammer picks up quick, mercifully. “Anode?”

“Hey,” you comm (in silence, watching Em as you go). “I’ve… I don’t know how to tell you this.”

He rumbles a sigh, his voice suddenly familiar with fatigue and weight. “You don’t have to. I’ve got Crucifer with me.”

Right--Schwarz’s oldest friend, the one who spoke at the memorial. “Ah. Well, listen, I’d like to say I just called to do right by you, but I really need your help right now.”

“I’m listening.”

“It’s Em.” You quickly detail what a mess he is, physically and otherwise, and can imagine Frog’s expression darkening with each word.

“Thanks, Anode. I’ll take care of it.”

He switches comms--with you still on the line. “Gopher? Frog. Mind if I come by and pick up your problem child?”

Gopher’s response is equally brisk. “One, you don’t need to ask. Two, thank you for asking. Approved, Major.”

“Keep an eye on him until we get there,” Frog tells you as he cuts the line.

Not that there’s much to do. He sits there, silent, stormy, looking more and more like the mentor who just turned on you both. He begins to sway lightly in his seat, well and truly gone, eyes sliding disconcertingly into and out of focus.

In the meantime, you get a chime on your own datapad, mirrored (muffled) by the one Em tossed over the counter.

To whom it may concern,

On behalf of Candemir Group and myself, I wish to extend my heartfelt thanks to the brave maverick hunters who came to Istanbul’s defense today. While this isn’t much, please understand you have my gratitude, as well as that of my firm. For service not just to the region, but to the people and spirit of Turkey as a whole.

In addition, we have seen fit to open our inventory reserve to your organization. You may, individually, requisition company hardware and equipment totaling up to one hundred thousand zenny at cost, with any remainder being divested to you in a cash sum. If you are uninterested or unequipped to mount any of our upgrades, please feel welcome to simply take the entire total in one lump sum. It is the very least we can do in return.

Thank you,

Rafael Candemir
Candemir Group
Ankara, Turkey

Sure enough, a second message follows from Halcyon himself to all hands, congratulating the involved hunters on a successful operation and authorizing your acceptance of the gift. A third notice tells you a product catalog of Candemir Group and its affiliates is being prepared and will be presented shortly.

You’re considering telling Em that to lift his spirits when the doors swing open, and a small scattering of cheers and applause goes up for the unit’s former commander.

Almost unnoticed behind him, however, is a diminutive figure, almost like someone downsized Frog’s chassis and kept going, leaving him one of the only Reploids you’ve ever seen actually smaller than a human. His silhouette is broken up distinctly by a black coat, ends barely clearing the floor, and a matching, ridiculously tiny hat. Frog leans over and mutters something to him, and he nods, then taps his earpiece, pursing his lips.

Instantly, Em blinks, sits upright in his seat…

...And then promptly pitches sideways off his chair, completely unconscious.

“Um.” you say, mildly dumbfounded as the pair approach.

“That’s one thing dealt with,” the smaller frog says grandly, nudging the unconscious Emerald over with his boot. “You got him, Hammertime?”

“...Suppose I do,” Frog finally manages, giving you a shrug. “We’ll catch up later. I’ll take care of things here.”

“So hey, let’s take a walk,” the little guy says by way of greeting, with a voice like a choir of angels was sucked into a jet intake and spat out under a truck.

Standard ones range in size from about "egg" to "half a loaf of bread." Specialty LIFE cells exist for certain purposes that can get fairly small, and there are bigger ones for dedicated purposes.

There's a bizarre sort of "dip" in effectiveness based on size, where at a certain point sizing up the LIFE cell doesn't result in meaningful gains in utility unless the jump is massive, at which point it's not really a "cell" anymore. Serial and subordinate LIFE cells are a much more common solution to the problem of needing more energy for a mechaniloid or Reploid.

Mesa Mongoose is a Lieutenant in 4th Overland Americas. A rocky terrain specialist, he headed a Lanceteamer squad operating out of Geneva and taking point on operations in the dry regions of the Mediterranean. With the African Union running specialist teams in the northern coast and 4th Geneva needing a dedicated generalist, Mongoose put in for a transfer so that he could lead operations in Mexico and the Southwestern United States.

“Sure, why not,” you reply, glancing over as Frog carefully lifts Em’s battered body from the floor. As you turn to leave, Max nods at you on his way back to the bar. “So, I’m--”

“I know who you are,” Crucifer says. “You were a favorite topic of you-know-who. Well, as much as he ever says about anything, so about three words, instead of two.”

“Right. And you are…”

“Madhouse Crucifer,” he replies brightly, pushing through the doors with animated verve and holding it open for you--a little strange, considering he’s about waist-height. “I was looking to run into the two of you, albeit sober and in one piece. But given neither was my fault, we’re already starting on a higher note than my usual.”

You snort. “At least someone’s having a good day.”

“Buuut, with the Kangawa footage--”

“That’s out?” You ask. Shit.

He shrugs. “It’s in-progress, just starting to hit the big-time now. I just know a few of the right people--they do right by me so I can do right by Fido.”

“Like who?”

He blithely ignores your question, continuing his train of thought. “Old Snoopy, though, he’s gonna be a tough one for you. See how you feel after our chat and get back to me. But here’s one for free.”

He clicks and whistles, and your eyes swim--a moment later, a video he sent begins autoplaying.

It’s from Istanbul, and it’s recent.

“Eviction has close support until we find a good opportunity for him,” Seven says, the feed swaying back and forth with thunderous footfalls that you will never mistake for anything again. This is being recorded from Seven’s command CF-1. Someone hangs from the canopy, unmarked. "Seism, you’re staying with me until he’s gone, then we’re cutting you loose in there.”

“Understood,” the now-dead maverick says. “What about the hunter response?”

“It’ll be Fourth, probably Geneva for numbers and ranks,” Seven replies. “First is busy in Ankara and we drew Marine and Grapple out to sea.”

“Bo-ring,” Crucifer drones, and the feed fast-forwards. “--oody two shoes that he is, Anode will go for the civilians, every time. You can use that against him.”

“Copy,” Cryoseism says.

“My friend also got a little footage of her putting that into practice,” Crucifer explains, waving a hand in front of your face theatrically as the video clears from your optics. “Got it all wrapped up with a pretty little bow, sent off before anyone could start calling for your head.”

“Uh. Thanks?”

Crucifer waves it off. “Point is, kid--we take care of our own, on this side of the fence or the other. Now, let me ask you something.”

He stops and gestures around--your vaguely-aimless walk has taken you away from the barracks and out towards the now-empty satellite bases the larger units moved from.

“You’re worried about Smalls,” he says, jerking a thumb over his shoulder at the Dodo. “And not worrying enough about Biggie. You can’t fix him before you fix you, trust me.”

“So!” He claps his hands. “No cameras, no records, no Halcyon, no Frog, and no Gopher. How are YOU feeling about this little run-in?”

You pause, wary. You definitely haven’t really had time to process the grief, terror, anger, frustration… anything. Just one crisis after another, another fire to put out. Crucifer begins whistling, tapping his temple. You test your comms and find they’re dead and blinking JAM, the static on the line rising and falling with the notes of his tuneless, guttural song.

>Let it out. This is some BULLSHIT.

Where to start..
There's Seven, who tried shit once more and is still a cocky bastard who has done all he can to make the lives of the 4th hell because he had issues firing his cannon alongside his buster.
There's Tanker, who ripped apart good people doing as he pleases, and gets away with it because while the RPS system is a thing, no one seems to have the counter to giant shark.
There's Rezador who NOT only acts above everyone and is making things worse for both Em and me, but then proceeds to try and one on one the murdershark, says WE can't do it and kicks my friend while he's down for caring about the bigger situation.
The old bugger who held us at gun point, making it so we can't do our job, dies from it and was very likely using highly illegal mechanoids to parasite his own reploid citizens to cause further polarization of the issue, which was a SPECIAL bit of fuck you right there.
Schwarz who came out of nowhere, Em who freaked out and almost died because of it, Doppler for Ripping me a new air hole which could have gotten me grounded, being the punching bag for Command, some spooky ghost squad and whatever inferiority complex seven has for the day. Seriously, this is what, the fifth, sixth time Seven had tried to screw me over?
Fuck Seven, Fuck Tanker, Fuck Rezador, Fuck the entire Kangawa situation, Fuck Doppler, his war, and his cold doctor hands, Fuck seven AGAIN with a enigma cannon, Fuck Emerald for wanting to rush to his death and not thinking about how we'd feel losing our best friend, and FUCK SCHWARZ for not even giving us a reason why and just all of THAT!

Hesitate for a sec, I mean we don't know the guy personally.

Vent, mostly see above. This is shitty, but with the understanding as a Hunter the world (well Mavericks mostly) is out to get us, not specifically us personally as Anode. Just that we've had a shitty hand and it's been hard. Yeah, this is our job. Get punched and deal it back harder. It's good work, meaningful work, but it seems like whenever things start looking up, shit gets fucked some more. Yeah, getting beaten up sucks, but that's not even the biggest issue, only a smaller part of the shit pile. Honestly, what's worse is the shit that's going on around us, the latest being Em falling apart and now FUCKING Schwarz. Also, fuck Seven. He can suck his buster.

I don't know how right I feel about being angry at Schwarz, by the way. I still think it's the virus or some other coerced defection, rather than a planned thing. I feel like Crucifer would have picked up on something like that, he seems fair canny.

Tanker said we don't know what the viral looks like, not really. I mean, he went Maverick not long after that, probably because one of his weapons is big sharp teeth that chew up reploids which probably ain't a great thing to have when you've got a virus with an unknown means of transmission, but yeah.

>>2349387
Uh, hold on a minute. Are we ignoring that the Dog's best friend, who should have seen his defection coming, has physically isolated us from other hunters and has just now cut our comms?

Yes, it could easily be to make sure we're not overheard, but what could we possibly say that nobody is allowed to hear? Either this IS a black op and Madhouse has to kill us if we suspect that, or the crazy frog is a mav himself and has drawn us away from everyone for nefarious purposes.
>>
>>2350921
Honestly? If Madhouse infected Schwarz, he infected most of the black coats. And I don't think we can do much to stop him in our current condition.

>Are we ignoring that the Dog's best friend, who should have seen his defection coming, has physically isolated us from other hunters and has just now cut our comms?

Now THAT'S the kind of paranoia Anode should be diving into! Quick, stab the bastard before our optics shatter again!

But seriously, we've met reploids who were taken by surprise when their sibling units went Maverick. It's not impossible or even improbable that Crucifer was unaware. And while Crucifer could be out to kill us, I'd give it equal odds that he just wants to make out with a Van de Graaff generator.

>>2351013
Considering the only three officers left after Doppler's coming out party were Anode, Emerald, and India; and since Emerald had already made it clear he was not going to be chill about the change in leadership, I doubt Frog was very surprised by the news. I imagine the meeting between Frog and Gopher involved the word "sorry" an awful lot,.
>>
>>2351185
>>2351213
I think you are underestimating how Frog would assess Anode.

> His reaction to being pranked was to prank back and then take responsibility and clean up.
> He befriended 2 of the 4th's reoccurring problem children and was making them less problematic before the shit hit the fan.
> He is a good team player, caused limited amounts of friction and what friction he did cause turned out to be with an enemy agents.
> He completed most of his missions even when given faulty and/or sabotaged intel.
> He has completed missions that even experienced hunters would have had problems with taking heavy damage.

After slightly modifying the end and extending the channels to it, the lance can now be slotted into the buster. The buster can then be fixed at the torso, providing a stable platform similar to a couched lance. A dashing attack from this position would be devastating.

>Phase Tech
Incorporating a powerful experimental plasma technology, the lance blade produces a field of EM-distortion in its wake. Any plasma shots traveling through it are destablized, most weaker projectiles dissipating without a containing envelope.

As this was applied to a lo-beam, the modified plasma changed color to a generous fuschia and pessimistic pink.

Absolutely, though naturally I elected to run right before work ramped the car off a cliff.

ON THAT NOTE:

I have to work 8-12 hours of OT today and tomorrow, assuming things go to plan, and next week went from "packed" to "[screams externally]." In the absolute worst case, I'll pause thread and resume when, where, and however I can--now that we've started, we're not going to go six months without continuation.

Good news! Through the vast incompetence of several other parties, I'm already done!

Of course come Monday a category five shitstorm is going to come down on me that is in no way my fault, but that's a "next week" kind of problem, and I can't do anything about it besides.

Let's try to get some superwriting robot on.

Alright, got the logs and now I can say authoritatively:

• Rush Chevalski, 1st Advance
• Shade Tanuki, 2nd Recon
• Flash Rezador, 4th Overland
• Glass Wreck King, 6th Marine
• Crash Cormorant, 7th Air Cavalry
• Dreadbolt Skunk, 9th Rangers
• Hotfoot Rabbit, 14th Grapple Combat
• Krieg Euler, 15th Artillery

Congratulations to every unit that didn’t get one.

Can you imagine if I dropped one in the 5th?

Honestly, having one of them Navigating us through a mission sounds hilarious. I mean, we’d end up dead, but imagine the sass levels!

Also, regarding the yarn saber from earlier (that was me, excuse my having to switch WiFi way too often), I’m not too happy with its flimsiness (didn’t judge the stuffing quite right), so if anyone wants it, I can check international postage on Monday and if it’s not too expensive, I don’t mind paying P&P for anyone who wants it. It’s sort of dagger-sized and more of a decoration than a toy (again, slightly understuffed), and only novice-made, but I guess it would cute on a shelf? In a manly, stabby way.
>>
>>2355234
Not going to lie, if I had a PO box or something, I would buy the shit out of that thing.

Also, stand by. This one involves getting a lot of tone just so.
>>
>>2355266
Well, I couldn’t make any promises until at least Monday when I can check at the Post Office (although estimating size and weight, postage should be okay), but if anyone wants time to set up a P.O. Box or get permission to use a friend’s address or something, I’m fine with holding onto it for a while longer. It seems a shame to just throw it in a bin after all the weird looks I got from my crochet group! (The flambard is going to be lifesize, so there’s no way I’m paying postage if anyone wants that one. Probably same with the Ascent Lance.)

The fact that Flash Rezafor is the beat/edgiest melee guy we've seen, and there was still a Mortales that was more suitable for 14th has me slightly concerned

You pause for a long moment, thinking it over, before… fine. “Right. Okay. So!”

You take a deep breath, and then unload both barrels. “So of all the fuckheads who actually went maverick during this shitshow, how in the good tap-tap-tapping fuck was I the guy they pulled aside by the ear and put on suspension?

“Of course then after I prove myself, Doppler turns my torso into an outie, and they damn near hang me out to fucking dry! At this point I’m not sure if God or Halcyon hates me, and I’m not sure which is worse.

“And him! What’s his deal? You got any insights, peepfrog? Is he just driving us through the floor like an eagle in the Himalayas?”

Crucifer raises an eyebrow, but says nothing.

“Yeah, yeah,” you grouse. “And speaking of driving things, some days I feel like there really is a grand fucking conspiracy, and every asshole is in on it but me. Are you?”

His eyebrow raises further, as does your voice. “Don’t give me that. You just swept in after Schwarz went loup-y and guided me--still maimed to hell, I might add--away from pesky things like cameras and witnesses, and THEN, you jam the comms and totally isolate us? Am I walking away from this?”

Crucifer begins, silently, cackling, hands clapping over his face with breathless wheezes as he tries to keep quiet (and keep jamming).

“I’ve seen enough movies to put two and fuck together, you little twerp,” you say hotly. “And I’ve lived through enough bullshit that I see it coming now, everywhere I go. Fuck you, Seven,” you add as an afterthought.

But, honestly… right now, he’s not what’s on your mind.

“Is Schwarz a Seven, or is Schwarz a Hurricane Wren?” you ask aloud--and Crucifer looks back up at you, giggles ebbing. “That was a soul-wrenching shitshow, and I still don’t know if anything I did was right.

“I didn’t save shit! I threw a bunch of men and machines into a blender and let her go to work. I’d go to therapy, but my fucking therapist is dead! Fuck you, Seven.

“I feel like I’m built to be a pair in a world full of solo acts, and it’s catching up with me. I can’t keep coming back from every mission on death’s door. Everyone keeps telling me I’ll get it, it’s when, not if, but how do I stay alive that long? I don’t--I don’t think I’m gonna.

You lower your head, taking another breath to steady yourself. “I’m just paranoid enough to get vindicated every so often, just enough to string the bad luck along. What the hell am I supposed to do? What can I possibly do to turn this--” You gesture back at hunter HQ. “All of this, around?”

He folds his arms, fingers tapping a drumline on his sleeve (also syncing with the blinking JAM on your comms), and rolls the other hand in midair, gesturing for you to keep going.

“...Can I be a good person and a maverick hunter?” You ask.

“Because right now, I feel like that answer is no. Tanker was a giant fucking asshole who needs to get what’s coming to him. Rezador is somehow in direct competition with a teamkilling fuckface for hugest ass award. Then we’ve got the humans making shit worse--thanks for that, Kangawa--and then of course you have Doctor fuckin’ Doppler! Savior of Reploidkind, with his antivirus and oops it’s a virus, get fucked.

“How am I supposed to live knowing all of my friends might go kill crazy and BE the next Tanker, or Doppler, or whoever? Do I trust all of them and get fucked again, or do I just close myself off from everyone and trust no one?

“...Like Schwarz did,” you say miserably. “I couldn’t stop him. Couldn’t even come close.”

Crucifer nods, whistling fading as he lets his drumming fingers handle the jamming process.

“Why him? Why now? How dare he? How dare he? If he’d been here--Tanker was looking for him. Schwarz shows up, obliges him, no more Tanker, plus one Dodo. Maybe he could have saved Conda, too, put Seven in the ground, or bailed India out before she and her armor got slagged.

“He should have. He should have been here. This wasn’t supposed to happen.”

The heat gradually fades, leaving you cold and bitter. “I still can’t help but hope that...somehow, he’s still loyal. But--is it my fault? He was looking for dirt for me when he went missing. I had a long string of bad luck--right, he probably told you--and it turned out to be my good. Friend. Seven.

“Fuck Seven,” you spit. “And fuck your pet cuttlefish and the big bug. Fuck your PHANTOMs and fuck you. Fuck all of these stupid assholes ruining my life. Fuck Foxfi--”

You pause, and frown. “...How the hell is Soul Foxfire the least of my problems?”

Crucifer shrugs dramatically.

“Though that brings us to the friendlies. And, well, ‘friendlies,’” you airquote condescendingly. “Starting with Kermit back home. Not Frog,” you add hastily.

“My best friend is being a dumb suicidal fuckshit. Is he already slipping away? Is he already gone? Is he just waiting for me to be able to make good on our cheerful little death pact?” Crucifer nods along, quickly getting the idea--which doesn’t surprise you, he was all-in for friendly death pacts, going off his speech at the memorial.

“And I’m getting weird comm messages. Warnings, cryptic bullshit. Someone with a glued caps lock and way too many tarot cards.”

Crucifer begins cackling again, muffled into his shoulder.

“I’ve just got so many fucking wheels turning on and on all around me, and all four of mine are tits-up in the air, spinning and spinning. How do I choose my targets right for this war? Did I, and I’ll never know it? I just want one--ONE--mission where everything goes to plan, nothing explodes, nobody dies, and I’m not in traction when we’re done. Is that so fucking much to ask? The entire world is spinning out of control and nothing makes any goddamned sense any more!

“My SISTER is dating a BAT.

“FUCK SEVEN.

...I like your hat.”

“...Thanks,” Crucifer says. “All done?”

“Yeah,” you nod. “Yeah, I think so.”

“Good. Okay, one: My literal job title is ‘ninja assassin.’ If I wanted you dead, we wouldn’t be having a little confab about it first. And two: we just left a whole bar full of witnesses, character or otherwise, who saw us leave with you heavily wounded. In the assassination world, we call that an ‘oopsie.’ You get me?”

“I...guess,” you admit, a little abashed.

“And putting that aside, three: If I could trade you to get Schwarz back, I’d do it. No questions asked.”

“Ow,” you reply dully.

“No offense,” he adds outrageously. “I’ve known him for roughly three or four Anodes. He’s my oldest friend I haven’t killed yet. That’s worth something, even to me. I’m not all piss and vinegar.”

“I guess.”

“And since I’m not getting Marmaduke back, I’m gonna Scooby-Do what he asked me to; check in on you clowns.”

You raise an eyebrow.

“I didn’t come here for a courtesy call. You think you’re the only one who feels like shit? That’s my friend, Frog’s friend, Gopher’s voucher, the guy we trusted to take care of exactly this kind of dirty business so we didn’t have to. You’re not alone and you’re sure as hell not unique. And besides that, if I’m taking you and the green kid to the tailor someday, it’s not for funeral shrouds.”

“Tailor…?”

Crucifer fixes you an oh-come-on-now glance and flips the lapels on his black coat.

You snort. “Bullshit.”

“You’re not ready today, yeah. Tomorrow? Probably not. After this war?” He waves his hands in a ‘maybe.’ “But you could. Takes a long time to get here, kid, it’s normal.”

“So… what? Where does this leave me? Nice bitching session, back to work?”

Crucifer rubs the bridge of his wide, flat “nose.” “Well, me, I’d tell you you can’t fix it. You can’t make it better. But that’s not really your job. Your job is to put it right, make sure that whatever you couldn’t stop never happens twice. Don’t be sorry--that’s not your job either. Know what you missed, what you’ll do next time, how you’ll do it. And then, maybe next time, it happens.”

“But… you’re not telling me that?”
>>
>>2355372
He chuckles. “Hang on, got something just for this…” He feels around his pockets and produces a small index card (they still make those?). Clearing his throat (which does worse than nothing for his voice), he reads. “‘When you rescue a civilian, if someone else didn’t make it, or you had to make the hard call, don’t tell them you’re sorry. They’re not looking for that. And if they are, it’s not something you can give. You ask if they’re okay, you do your job, and you move on. And eventually you start losing less people. One day you don’t lose anybody. Then it happens again, happens a few times. And then, there you are.’”

You scoff. “And what, it’s that easy?”

Crucifer shrugs as he crumples up the card in his hand and stuffs it back from whence it came. “Oh, it’s not easy. It’s never easy. But when they look at you, they’re not looking for a hug. They’re looking for a maverick hunter.”

That… makes sense, you guess. And there’s nothing you can do about it anyway. “I’ll try to keep that in mind.”

“As for Schwarz…” Crucifer frowns. “I’ve been turning that one over since I got the word. I’m first on the short list to take him in, but let me tell you, it’s a real short list. And he knows me better than anyone. I can hop along all I want, I ain’t getting the jump on him.”

“Will he surprise you?”

He shrugs. “Sure as shit did when he turned. But in combat, no, we’ve got each other down pretty good. The problem is that if he’s smart--and he is--he’s not going to stick it out with me if he can at all help it. Which means either he needs to not be able to help it, or it can’t be me.”

“Please don’t tell me you’re going where I think you’re going with this,” you mutter.

“Might be. Sorry, kid, them’s the breaks. You’re the last hunter to ever get close to him, but you don’t have years of playbook for him to consult. It might be you.”

“If I can.”

“Bring yourself to, you mean?” After a moment, you nod. “It’s hard. You never know until the moment. But hey! That’s enough of that.”

Dusting off his hands, the comm jams spike and then go dead, and air rushes back into the feed as it crackles live again. Turning crisply on his heel, he throws a wave over his shoulder. “I’m done with you. We’ll be in touch.”

...Well, that’s that. Whatever the hell that was.

>>2355375
BUSTER COMPONENTS
Candemir CI4 “Goalpost” Chamber Ring: gives a buster two firing modes - much higher rate of fire with weaker lemons, and lower rate of fire but bigger hits. Will mess with charge and melt if you fire charged shots through it too often. Z24,000.

Candemir CI9 “Goalpost” Chamber Ring: as above, but calibrated for a special charge shot that combines the best of both worlds. More expensive because of course it is. Z40,000.

Candemir CI20K “Imza” Chamber Ring: adds a calibrated electrical discharge signal to buster shots that lingers in the shield oscillation of enemies hit by it, allowing tracking for a short period. Z30,000.

Ejderha T66 “Kora” Buster Augments: Adds two energy-harmonized “child” shots to a charged shot. Good for a small area-of-effect attack or against larger enemies for added damage as the shield flash won’t completely block them before they penetrate. Z45,000.

Ejderha T80 “Fırtına” Buster Augments: Can spend a charged shot to flash a big AoE burst of lemons in a cone. Not good when friendlies are about, great for hitting moving targets or clearing out chaff. Z28,000.

Ejderha T7H “Kabarcık” Compressor: Packs explosive expansion energy into a semi-charged buster shot. If it penetrates shields, the explosion can cause severe structural damage, but it’s wasted if the shot is absorbed by shields. Z33,000.

SENSORS
Birdal I14 “Şişman” Targeting Pointer: tracks a moving enemy’s center of mass and velocity to determine where to aim to ensure a hit. Much more reliable the larger an enemy is. Z10,000.

Birdal I05 “Köpekbalığı” Targeting Pointer: compensates for water when targeting aim, both within and above the waves. Z15,000.

Bilgelik 919 “Kuşatma” Tracker: Reads buster shot impacts to detect shield frequencies, weaknesses, and resonance; calculates with repeat fire to output optimized charged shots for bigger damage. Z44,000.
>>
>>2356577
SHIELDING
Candemir KE20 “Sivrisinek” Shield Regulator: draws on operating energy instead of direct LIFE tap for small physical shield hits - individual pesky Mechaniloids will hit it and fry. With Anode’s capacitor, a 5% charge deduction is enough to keep this running without any impact on his combat performance and will let him just body small jerks without worrying about it. Z37,500.

Ejderha ZT1 “Zırh” Shield Supplement: Auxiliary one-use device activatable or kicks in at low LIFE levels to blunt one hit to shields. Commercial grade. Z11,000.

Ejderha ZA1 “Zırh” Shield Supplement: Auxiliary one-use device tracks recent hits to LIFE cell, kicks in at low LIFE levels based on expected hit strength and desired settings to blunt one proportionate hit to shields. Military grade. Z38,000.

Ejderha ZA6 “Pullu” Shield Supplement: Ablates minor hits but needs a small refractory period to do it again. Partially ablates larger hits. Comes with 2-cell, 3-cell, and 4-cell versions. Can be burnt out by serious hits and major damage. Not priced as a consumable, but not so costly that it’s too onerous to replace - sweet spot where it’s worth having if you fight like someone who tanks too many minor hits or really needs to escape by the skin of the teeth on a big one. Z15,000-Z45,000 for initial system and cells for 2/3/4 capacity, replacement cells Z5,000.

ARMOR
Candemir MZ3 “Spider” Armor Upgrade: Detects and reinforces structural damage to body armor or a particular limb with a stored nanomembrane disc that moves to the damage point, expanding and crystallizing to fill in a breach and prevent a second hit from becoming critical. Each disc stored will cause some material slowdown. Inbuilt WEAPON cell makes this a reusable upgrade, though each install will only provide about one patch per hour and patches are no substitute for proper armor coverage. Z31,000.

Candemir Robertson Anti-Laser Frit: An industrial product, this patterned coating diffuses lasers, reducing their damage. Wears down with impacts and won’t last forever (or for more than a mission or two given how Anode tends to use up his HP) but a worthwhile defense and economical way to approach laser weapons. Does leave vulnerable areas that can’t be fritted. Z28,000, reproof treatment Z10,000.

MOBILITY
CANIS Longstride 2O: Dash booster incorporates minimal hover propulsion to reduce ground friction and evade surfactants. Has problems with magnets and convective heat. Z14,000.

CANIS 1130 “Isırma” Gyro Link System: Reduces slide on walls, improving wall jump mobility. Z22,000.

Rüzgar U6 Ailieron: Improves turning and control with jetpack-based flight. Z7,500.

Rüzgar “Rüya” Inertial Canceller: Long recharge device produces anti-momentum “bubble” allowing a brief total suspension of motion in midair for the user. Z22,500.

Rüzgar KEY3 Propulsion Battery: Lightweight battery/propellant tank amplifies available flight time. Specialized for aerospace and jetpack systems; can dump energy into other systems but really wasteful to do so. One-use. Z25,000.

VEHICLES
Turkcell At 3400 Yaz: One of the most popular product lines in personal transportation in Turkey is the At portable hoverbike. Comprised of two handles, a forward impeller, folding seat stand and directional motivator, the whole can fold up into five small tubes - easily small enough to store on and around a Reploid’s person. While nowhere near as fast as a Ride Chaser, an At offers portability, flexibility, economy, and a reasonable battery charge life. The current popular model is the 3400 Yaz, with the 3130 Bahar and competing products the Vestel Kaplan and the BMC Kaçış and BMC Macera also out on the market. Z18,000.

Turkcell Çita 221 Gece: The badass version of the At is the Çita, less portable (it’s a large single tube when closed) and flexible (the components are physically linked, not individualized) but with increased durability, a lo-beam “skate” on the forward impeller to breach simple obstacles, and a frontal weapon hardpoint. The Çita is faster than any portable hoverbike on the European market and relatively sturdy for its construction. Its only competitor is the BMC Saldırgan, which features onboard shielding but is slower than its rival. A key product for Turkish police forces. Z27,000.

BEAM BLADE COMPONENTS
Ejderha LKB040 “Klaımor” Beam Amplifier: This augmentation recycles waste heat from a beam blade impact to concentrate into a focused continual narrow pulse in the center of the strike zone. This counteracts conventional ablative measures and is additively draining to shields to repulse. Z17,500.

Ejderha LKB323 “Atlama” Alternator: This useful augmentation can adjust the output of a beam weapon to create a forceful kinetic blast. The blade takes a few seconds to reignite properly after use, but if wielded properly can be used to knock away an enemy or vault using a spearhead. Z28,000.
>>
>>2356588
INTERNAL BATTERIES
AnkarElek 6TK Solid Battery: This hefty battery can provide up to 42% capacitor charge but is quite heavy--too heavy to do anything other than use immediately after deployment to divest yourself of the weight. That said, it is specialized for rapid drain into barely charged capacitance systems and could be used to bring Anode up to a respectable charge level within mere minutes if brought to the start of a mission. One use and too cumbersome to fit other batteries while in use. Z30,000.

AnkarElek 3TK Oxy Battery: This specialized battery is normally used with outdoor power equipment and contains fans to expedite exposure of the components within to oxygen in order to catalyze the electrical reaction. While it can only deliver about 18% charge, its lack of need for catalyst storage makes it quite lightweight as batteries go. Z20,000.

AnkarElek 4TK Industrial Battery: This battery has a bit of weight to it and is only designed to put out 10% charge, but it can be recharged in normal power stations and is compatible with most industrial applications. Z18,000.

EQUIPMENT
Ejderha A9 “Pençe” Throwing Knives: Simple spherical design offers no hint of this tool’s true function. On interacting with a shield frequency, projects a hi-beam through its own surface to stab perpendicular to the discharge. One-use apiece but a terrible surprise for the unaware. Standard issue for Turkish military forces. Z1,000 apiece.

Ejderha A17 “Yıldız” Anti-Robot Flare: Throwable one-use flare emits pattern of high- and low-frequency light that interferes with optics but does not harm humans at low exposures. Can hover during activation. Z500 apiece.

Ejderha A60 “Yük” Gravitic Anchor: Throwable one-use device locks onto the surface impacted and generates disproportionate gravitic pull for its weight, slowing and impeding the one so burdened. Most Reploids could shoot it off and many of the stronger ones could crush it or yank it off, but it’s still an obnoxious distraction and if placed discreetly they may not notice what’s slowing them. Z3,300 apiece.

Candemir Yem! Anti-Homing Assistant: Cute little helper drone repurposed as anti-homing protection; on detection of a homing trace, clones host Reploid’s signal and launches off in a random direction to decoy missile. Z5,575 apiece.

Candemir CI9T1 “Eldiven” Peripheral Weapon Adapter: The signature tool of Candemir-armed S-Ker Reploids in the Turkish armed forces, the Eldiven is an externally-mounted adapter fitted into a buster. Containing an adapted version of VWES technology, the Eldiven recalibrates a buster to fire using the data and WEAPON entity stored within, typically one of four basic entities issued by Candemir and available for licensure. The Eldiven is a low-grade VWES-1 that has trouble mimicking weapons with a high power output and has a meagre 25% of the ammo capacity of a comparable VWES entity. It also overrides any other configurations for the buster while docked. However, mounting it is a matter of seconds, and it can be ejected in a hurry if needed. Candemir is working on a newer model that can rotate adapters more quickly; currently, the need to flush the previous adapter’s data prevents docking more than one within the same ten-hour period without causing WEAPON glitches. Note that this device is reusable and compatible with any VWES data. Z43,000.

Note that these items will remain available if not purchased--however, after the 100,000 gift is spent, you will be charged their market prices, which are considerably higher.
In addition, note that many of these items overlap and are not mutually compatible--you aren't going to be equipping two buster compressors, or two ring chamber modifications. Anode's two melee weapons are already occupied by Phase and the inlined LN components, respectively--they're full up and ineligible for these parts. You would need to begin designing a new melee weapon to make use of the new ones.
Some are upgradeable to some extent or the other or can expect to receive ongoing support from the manufacturer.

Lastly: With this many options, I want clean, easy-to-read votes on what you want. I'm going to be sifting and sorting for an eternity, so make this as easy on me as possible, I beg you.

And with that, let the slaughter begin.

Just putting out a small wishlist.

>Candemir CI20K “Imza” Chamber Ring: adds a calibrated electrical discharge signal to buster shots that lingers in the shield oscillation of enemies hit by it, allowing tracking for a short period. Z30,000.
Intelligence is the best weapon, so a tracker shot would be sexy to have. Just throwing that out there.
>Bilgelik 919 “Kuşatma” Tracker: Reads buster shot impacts to detect shield frequencies, weaknesses, and resonance; calculates with repeat fire to output optimized charged shots for bigger damage. Z44,000.
More efficient shots is always a good deal.

Might be a nice bag of tricks for the BB, since they don't have a full vwes

You probably could, but they'd be aggressively noncompetitive with the kind of equipment maverick hunters have access to.

By "tracking" does this mean tracking which way the enemy is moving, or does the electrical property mean that we can shoot lightning and it'll home in on them?

Do you really believe her mission won't be a giant clusterfuck equivalent to Saetos? We also have Yamatoad, and potentially Tanker cropping up, while we have basically nothing already for aquatic combat. I feel like making sure our shots will even hit seems pretty good to get while it's cheap.

"Yo people! Invisible fucker, RIGHT THERE." Yes, please.

>Birdal I05 “Köpekbalığı” Targeting Pointer: compensates for water when targeting aim, both within and above the waves. Z15,000.
Stellar Atlantica and Yamatoad missions both sound like they have an aquatic component. This would be valuable, and is cheap.

Atlantica and Glacier Gibbon both have laser stuff going on. Useful.

>Rüzgar U6 Ailieron: Improves turning and control with jetpack-based flight. Z7,500.
IS CHEAP

Z26,500 left over. I don't have any strong opinions on what to do with the rest. Propulsion Battery might be nice, to get some really sick-ass airtime. Although I would like to spend anything remaining on a bunch of these:
>Ejderha A17 “Yıldız” Anti-Robot Flare: Throwable one-use flare emits pattern of high- and low-frequency light that interferes with optics but does not harm humans at low exposures. Can hover during activation. Z500 apiece.
...just to troll the hell out of any mavericks we meet without fortified optics. They're disposable! Just toss one and find out! Then throw in some CHAFF, free of charge!

Z19,500 left over. Still no strong opinion on the leftovers, though. Whatever works.
>>
>>2356609
Alright, it depends on how we want to do this. Two areas we haven't really touched is Defenses and our main buster. We have some good options, so I'll make a bundle for each.
BUSTER CENTRIC
Ejderha T7H “Kabarcık” Compressor
Bilgelik 919 “Kuşatma” Tracker
Birdal I14 “Şişman” Targeting Pointer
87k total
Its not only more accurate, but allows us to do more and more damage with only partially charged hits. Good combo against Heavy foes like Tanker and Yamatoad. Could switch out the compresser for the CI9 for more versatility of the shots, using weaker hits before using heavier shots. Would be 7k more.

Defense:
Candemir KE20 “Sivrisinek” Shield Regulator: 37.5k It's anti BATS and lots of small physical hits.
Ejderha ZA6 “Pullu” Shield Supplement: 3 cell model for 30k. Useful for small energy hits or to not die in general.
Spider:31k And this is to further our general life span in terms of armor and health. It's a good 3 way combo for survivability and deals with aspects we have problems with. Leaves some money for some small stuff.

Either way, we can shore up either of these quite well and make them less an issue. Mobility can be improved with more general upgrades and Saetos, but our Buster and General defense need shoring up.

Fair enough. Trading it back for 17,500 plus the remaining 9,000 would get two more "reproofing"s of the Anti-Laser Frit with change left over.

Or one reproofing and the...

>Birdal I05 “Köpekbalığı” Targeting Pointer, z15,000.
>>
How much to just laserproof those shields we bought for the BB?
>>
Hey, it's not often that we get the chance to upgrade our buster, is it? Where to start...
>>2356577
The sensors and Imza chamber ring all seem like they'd interface well with OPAL, but they're pricey enough where we can probably only afford one.
>>2356581
Again, the shield regulator being able to interface with Anode's systems is nice, and I can see it being upgradeable, but the price... The Laser Shit is a specialist tool that will have an immediate, lasting use for us, and we should probably get it.
>>2356588
All of those mobility upgrades would be fun to play with, and I'm leaning towards the inertial canceller in that respect due to its utility in fights with birds. I don't think Anode has ever wall jumped during the quest. Considering our track record with Ride Chasers, those hoverbikes will last us less than a minute, while I'd only consider the saber parts if we had anything that could equip them, which we don't right now.
>>2356596
Our K.Coils and regular batteries are good enough for our current needsCARLOS.
>>2356602
You had me at "Cute", but I don't think I could stand owning a mechaniloid like that whose sole purpose is to attract fire and die right away. Not sure how good an investment the weapon adapter would be for the BB, since just one is so expensive. I prefer just giving them guns made out of VWES data.

My final list of upgrades would be:
>“Kuşatma” Tracker
>Anti-Laser Frit
>“Rüya” Inertial Canceller
>3 Knives
>5 Flares
which should come out to exactly 100K zenny.

>>2356910
You asked for a vent, you got one.
To be truthful, I really am concerned that you may have introduced too many subplots into the quest, the stuff about Los Mortales and the PHANTOMs alone is enough for a third "season" of the quest, and I have no idea if you'll be able to resolve everything or not.

While this set isn't specialized for Ink guy and Collide, it should make it easier for us to be closer to full strength for when we DO take them on.

>Ejderha T80 “Fırtına” Buster Augments: Can spend a charged shot to flash a big AoE burst of lemons in a cone. Not good when friendlies are about, great for hitting moving targets or clearing out chaff. Z28,000.
Situational, but cheaper and good for clearing mechaniloids without expending VWES energy. Maybe want to add this with the standard Golfball Chamber Ring later.

>Birdal I14 “Şişman” Targeting Pointer: tracks a moving enemy’s center of mass and velocity to determine where to aim to ensure a hit. Much more reliable the larger an enemy is. Z10,000.
Pave the way to upgrade OPAL into something bigger, maybe?

>Birdal I05 “Köpekbalığı” Targeting Pointer: compensates for water when targeting aim, both within and above the waves. Z15,000.
We need some aquatic spec. Not much, but this compensates for having little experience in it.

We're doing a laser op, so

>Rüzgar U6 Ailieron: Improves turning and control with jetpack-based flight. Z7,500.
this is too cheap not to get

>Tactical Kit
>4 knives
>4 flares
>1 anti-homing (for anode)

For a total of 100075z.

.....I was HOPING to actually stay within the budget, but fuck that's how it turned out. We can spare some 100z from our actual money.
>>
>Bilgelik 919 “Kuşatma” Tracker: Reads buster shot impacts to detect shield frequencies, weaknesses, and resonance; calculates with repeat fire to output optimized charged shots for bigger damage. Z44,000.
>Birdal I14 “Şişman” Targeting Pointer: tracks a moving enemy’s center of mass and velocity to determine where to aim to ensure a hit. Much more reliable the larger an enemy is. Z10,000.
Assuming that we can fit two of these on and they're intergratable/competitive/don't overwrite OPAL, these just seem like good ups.

Another upgrade that taps into C. Capacitor. On the one hand, we've got a lot of stuff draining juice already. On the other... A good tool to deal with small harriers, like, say, MOTHERFUCKIN' BATS

>Rüzgar U6 Ailieron: Improves turning and control with jetpack-based flight. Z7,500.
A relatively cheap pick-up that synergizes well with one of our best built-in systems. A must-have, IMO.

Leaves us with 1000 from the reward to spend on either one of the throwing knives or two of the anti-robot flares; of the two, I'd say we go for the flares.

The laser-proofing is tempting knowing that we have Stellar and Gibbon on our list, but a little situational, and will be a recurrent drain on our expenses if we keep going in for it, much like batteries are tending to be. If we DO end up taking it, we'll have to take those two next rather than Moloch/looking into Baccarat.
>>
>>2356577
>Candemir CI20K “Imza” Chamber Ring: adds a calibrated electrical discharge signal to buster shots that lingers in the shield oscillation of enemies hit by it, allowing tracking for a short period. Z30,000.

First off, im curious if these two can work together, or if theyre one of the mutually exclusive types
>Ejderha ZA6 “Pullu” Shield Supplement
Sounds made for anode. The Two cell version would probably work, though I usually go for the middle upgrade.

>Candemir Robertson Anti-Laser Frit
Obviously, and knowing our luck there will probably be incidental enemies along the way to Atlantica that use lasers.

Price is right
>Ejderha A60 “Yük” Gravitic Anchor:

My thoughts
>BUSTER COMPONENTS
Goalposts - neither looks good for Anode as we can. BB maybe?
Imza - a good utility but fairly expensive for something that is of somewhat limited use
Kora - sounds like a toned down version of X's First Armor's charge shot
Firtina - don't know how good a shotgun charge shot is when our default busters are machine guns
Kabarcik - half charge shot? I don't know.

>SENSORS
Şişman - A Fat targeter? I'm pretty certain we have little trouble hitting where we want on large targets much less hitting them in general.
Köpekbalığı - Shark targeter. Don't know how much we actually need this
Kuşatma - Siege targeter sounds like it gives our busters a combo bonus for hitting the same target with multiple charged shots

>SHIELDING
Sivrisinek - A bug zapper sounds good but is the 5% one time, each time or drain over time while active?
Zırh - These are one time survive at 1hp/5hp buffs right?
Pullu - basically gives us recovering 2/3/4 cells worth of temp hp but we lose the temp hp until replaced if the temp hp is removed by an attack over the amount we buy.

>ARMOR
Spider - Armor repair system to counter armor breakers like Wolfspider.
Robertson - DR versus Lasers. Laser crits sound like they will bypass the dr. upkeep cost to maintain.

>Mobility
Longstride - ignore non-magnetic/non-lava difficult terrain.
Isırma - slower wall slide
Ailieron - Don't know how much this will help. We are a dash more than a flier.
Ruya - While allowing for great Wile Coyote impressions don't know how much it will help in actuality.
KEY3 - One-use longer Saetos dash distance? Not worth it.

>VEHICLES
Neither collapsible bike sounds like anything more than an off-duty toy.

>BEAM BLADE COMPONENTS
Klaimor - Damage buff. Good but no current saber to install in.
Atlama - Knockback. Good but no current saber to install in.

>INTERNAL BATTERIES
6TK Solid - Start missions at 42% charge but no battery reserve.
3TK Oxy - Lighter weight but lower amount charged.
4TK Industrial - Only 10% charge but can be recharged and might also be used to power stuff other than Anode

>EQUIPMENT
Pence - While throwing knives are cool I think we are likely going to find them not worth their replacement cost until we have tons of spare cash at which they might no longer be useful.
Yildiz - Possibly useful
Yük - Fun, but expensive for a consumable
Yem! - Far to expensive per use to actual use.
Eldiven - An addition 25% ammo VWES might be good.

Buster Stuff:
>Goalpost
I don't like the sound of "mess with charge" and "melt with too many charged shots." However, the ability to fire stronger base shots would be nice.
>Imza
Would be nice against Ink Stylist, and probably against Gibbon as well.
>Kora
Would this work well in tandem with the Kabarcik? Or are they mutually exclusive? I know some are, but I thought the Kora would be exclusive with the Firtina.

>Sensors

I'll post more of my thoughts later. I'm just glad I didn't miss the thread completely.

By the way, we already have an existing compressor part, so this would be a sidegrade

We currently have:
* Prosser P68A Compressor (41K) amplifies buster shear against energy shielding. Makes shots force shields to go off. No extra damage but guaranteed to tax stronger shield systems than it would otherwise.
The other option we were offered for this slot is

>Ejderha A9 “Pençe” Throwing Knivesx5 (5,000)
>Ejderha A17 “Yıldız” Anti-Robot Flare (Whatever's Left bringing it to 100k)

EXPLANATIONS:
The Kusatma is definitely #1, no contest.

I don't think any of the buster stuff is useful enough for the price (while the Imza seems cool I agree with the anon that says we usually don't have a problem with tracking enemies for short periods).

Most of the shielding stuff is good, and I'd honestly be happy with any of the stuff there except for Zirh (too pricey).

Mobility stuff except for the KEY3 (price) is also all cool.

Vehicles and beam blades are just lower priority.

The Solid battery is too pricey, Oxy battery is fine, Industrial is fine but I don't want to worry about the weight, like keeping Anode mobile.

Want to load up on a shitload of this equipment. I can see it being very useful if we're conservative with surprising enemies with them. Super down with all of them, just think the flares are the most useful, especially for the price.

>Rüzgar U6 Ailieron: Improves turning and control with jetpack-based flight. Z7,500.
And some level of Ablation, not sure how much though
>Ejderha ZA6 “Pullu” Shield Supplement: Ablates minor hits but needs a small refractory period to do it again. Partially ablates larger hits. Comes with 2-cell, 3-cell, and 4-cell versions. Can be burnt out by serious hits and major damage. Not priced as a consumable, but not so costly that it’s too onerous to replace - sweet spot where it’s worth having if you fight like someone who tanks too many minor hits or really needs to escape by the skin of the teeth on a big one. Z15,000-Z45,000 for initial system and cells for 2/3/4 capacity, replacement cells Z5,000
And I would choose this Buster Augmentation only if it doesn't replace out current Buster Modifications
>Ejderha T66 “Kora” Buster Augments: Adds two energy-harmonized “child” shots to a charged shot. Good for a small area-of-effect attack or against larger enemies for added damage as the shield flash won’t completely block them before they penetrate. Z45,000.
And the throwing blades sound neat but I don't see them being very practical and any saber parts would either have to be fot a totally new saber build or a replacement effect for a current one and that aeems like a waste at this point in time.
And the vehicles would be dead in minutes......

Armor and shielding are pains in the ass to upgrade and these look like decent ways to keep Anode in the fight and maybe off the operating table quite as much. I don't like the idea of having to shell out money to keep our life bar maxed, so I prefer the "Zirh" to the "Pullu"

The rest of the money depends on if we're wiling to invest in a third melee weapon: I was thinking a knuckleduster would be useful for close quarters, especially with how much punching practice Anode is getting with Shell Driver. This may be hampered by the weapon in question not existing, though I believe we could achieve similar results by getting a spring loaded knife, similar to Em's, mounted either in Anode's foot or shoulder.

If Beam Knuckledusters exist:
>Ejderha LKB323 “Atlama” Alternator: Z28,000.

With Shriver Driver, these have the potential to become a miniature Shell Driver, which would allow some more flexibility VWES-wise.

Ejderha A9 “Pençe” Throwing Knives: Z1,000 apiece.
x1

Ejderha A17 “Yıldız” Anti-Robot Flare:
x4

I'm not a fan of disposables, but the knife could be a good off surprise attack, and the flares could be a decent distraction.

If Beam Knuckledusters are fevered dream of a madman:
>Rüzgar U6 Ailieron: Improves turning and control with jetpack-based flight. Z7,500.

>CANIS 1130 “Isırma” Gyro Link System: Reduces slide on walls, improving wall jump mobility. Z22,000.

Having more control over our extra jump makes it less predictable, which is always good. Isirma is mostly an extra, but it could be situationally useful

>Ejderha A17 “Yıldız” Anti-Robot Flare: Z500 apiece.

It's a signal being released by the shields, so rather than us forwarding to them, they should be able to see it for themselves once they know what to look for.

changing vote because I think we're going after yamatoad instead of atlantica next, so laser protection is a little lower priority

Aileron 7500
Sisman Targeter 10000
Firtina Cone of Lemons 30000
Pullu (2 cells) 15000
Bilgelik 919 “Kuşatma” Tracker 44000
Total: 106500

My reasoning is that there's a great combo:
Our shear compressor makes shots that shouldn't trip shields trip shields.
The cone of lemons makes a shitload of weak shots.
The tracker improves our shots the more times they hit enemy shields

So if we hit a guy with a cone of lemons, the first lemon will hit and the rest will plink off - but all the ones that plink will count towards upgrading our next shot.

Targeter is just generally good for shooting things.

2-Cell pullu is ridiculously cheap for what it does. Since it isn't modular, if we want to upgrade later we'll have to pay full price (which makes the 3-cell a little less appealing), but the old one will still be sitting around to be handed to a friend or something.

>Candemir CI9 “Goalpost” Chamber Ring: as above, but calibrated for a special charge shot that combines the best of both worlds. More expensive because of course it is. Z40,000.

>Birdal I14 “Şişman” Targeting Pointer: tracks a moving enemy’s center of mass and velocity to determine where to aim to ensure a hit. Much more reliable the larger an enemy is. Z10,000.

>CANIS 1130 “Isırma” Gyro Link System: Reduces slide on walls, improving wall jump mobility. Z22,000.

>Rüzgar U6 Ailieron: Improves turning and control with jetpack-based flight. Z7,500.

Total cost: 112,000 (With the Ruzgar at normal market price factored in)

Oh, and i never got to thank you properly for Schwarz, that had to be one of the most amazing and utterly wrenching experiences I've ever had from a quest, so i wanted to say congratulations and thank you Command and Cain, i appreciate you both for the anguish i felt, truly.

I took the liberty of looking up every single upgrade thread and i found several different pieces of tech that would work very well with Anodes arsenal. Next mission when we have another nice sum of zenny sounds like the perfect time to bring all of those cross thread upgrades to the forefront of player discussion i think.

Here are the links for those curious, there are some rather interesting and useful options that got left by the wayside and i only think It's right that we give them another look. Definitely not, at least not with your current body infrastructure. Maybe someday with some major investment.

Upgrades would let you do considerably more damage with a zap tap, enough to give stronger enemies pause. Picture it like taking contact damage in an X game--except this time, you're dishing it out instead of receiving it.

Just be aware it would be risky on anything big enough to contemplate using extra charge on. Don't go headbutting Morph Moth.

So through the power of spreadsheets and Cain Labs being way better with them than I am, we have your front runners.

You can consider the top three purchased; the nearest run-off was the Pullu system.

YOU HAVE SELECTED:
Bilgelik 919 “Kuşatma” Tracker: Reads buster shot impacts to detect shield frequencies, weaknesses, and resonance; calculates with repeat fire to output optimized charged shots for bigger damage. Z44,000.
Rüzgar U6 Ailieron: Improves turning and control with jetpack-based flight. Z7,500.

Total: 79,500 zenny.
Remaining: 20,500 zenny.

For sanity's sake I am going to let you buy any overages for the current listed prices with your zenny, if you want. Anode currently has 12,003 zenny, as well as the 21,000 you've put aside for the Himalayas memorial.

Now, RUNOFF! RUN OFF AND ... RUNOFF.
>>
>>2363104
>CANIS 1130 “Isırma” Gyro Link System
Increased mobility, good synergy with our wires.
>>
>>2363104
>Firtina aoe cone augment
The multiple hits will get data for kusatma faster, which then can be switched to regular charged shots for the damage.

Also still useful for face-melting targets without invul-frames.
>>
>>2363157
I disagree, we spend so much time in the air from dashing and grapple hooking that we don't actually walljump as much as everyone else.

>Bilgelik 919 “Kuşatma” Tracker: Reads buster shot impacts to detect shield frequencies, weaknesses, and resonance; calculates with repeat fire to output optimized charged shots for bigger damage. Z44,000.

Just to clarify, normal buster shots help calculate the data, but only charged shots get the damage bonus?
>>
Given that we can also get that 20,500 zenny to throw at other upgrades, anything from our other upgrade options that is in the budget of 32,503 Zenny that we might want to blow money on instead?
>>
>>2363104
While I'm at it asking questions, and since this is technically within our budget...
>Rüzgar KEY3 Propulsion Battery: Lightweight battery/propellant tank amplifies available flight time. Specialized for aerospace and jetpack systems; can dump energy into other systems but really wasteful to do so. One-use. Z25,000.

Is this propellant tank one-use-and-it's-gone, or one-use-but-can-refill-it-after-the-mission?
Also, does it take up the space normally occupied by our backup battery, or is it added bulk for the jumpjets?
>>
Well, might as well go with the two-piece combo

>Firtina Cone of Lemons 30000
>>
For sake of argument, going to add the other stuff from previous upgrade sessions that we could still buy, as it would be working budget 32,503 zenny.

>C. Capacitor - Capacitor Charge
Mission 13: Tunnel Vision
Slave Circuit or 50k, then 75k due to space limitations
A buster tap would allow fully-charged shots to instantly be converted from capacitor charge--5% per Charge 2 shot, with far faster cycle time per shot. 15% per Charge 3 shot, if we ever get it.

>C. Capacitor - Static Storm
Mission 13: Tunnel Vision
Slave Circuit or 50k, then 75k due to space limitations
Integrating the circuit to the C. Capacitor itself would allow a powerful expanded release when triggered, bathing the area in a fulminating cascade of lightning and presenting a persistent hazard for as long as charge is extended. Greatly useful for mowing through a large volume of small, hard-to-hit enemies, such as battons.

>Jumpjet - Distance retune
Mission 14: Ivory Tower
25k
Reduce the damage component to significantly improve distance traveled.

>Jumpjet - ACtive IDentifier Reflex System
Mission 14: Ivory Tower
45k
OPAL loop-in creates an emergency jump system that anticipates incoming attack and will automatically engage the Jump Jets if they are available to avoid incoming harm. Potentially double-edged sword, as it may misread an incoming attack or leave you without the jet at a crucial moment.

>Jumpjet - Extended Charge Projection
Mission 14: Ivory Tower
55k
As the jets build energy for use, they will project limited compression bubbles outside the exhaust to use as additional energy storage. When in this “overcharge,” energy will visibly gather at the jets and contribute to the flame wreath on ignition, resulting in a more powerful flame effect on impact.

>Tension Coil: Wire Reclaim
Mission 7: Where Eagles Dare
50k
Regain half the weapon energy used. Does not reclaim charged shots.

>Tension Coil: Improved Conductivity
Mission 7: Where Eagles Dare
25k
The wires can already channel electricity, this makes them better at doing so.

>Tension Coil: Nonlethalized Braid
Mission 7: Where Eagles Dare
25k
T. Coil is still lethal, most noticeably when actually straining against it, which pushes the monofilaments out. This upgrade removes the bladed braid. Can still do damage by striking with the charged variant (if you get one).

>Charged Tension Coil: Modified Head
Mission 7: Where Eagles Dare
50k
Fires a faster launching-and-retracting cable with an alternate head, chosen at upgrade. 4x ammo cost
>>
>Additional Ammo
Mission 12: Wrent Asunder
20K
Extends weapon shot supply by ⅛ of base. Cost increases with each iterative purchase, only applies to a specific weapon.

>Additional Slot

>Buster - Refire Rate
Mission 12: Wrent Asunder
82K
Increases cycle from two shots to three.

>Buster - Additional Charge Level
Mission 12: Wrent Asunder
161K
Allows buster to be charged to Charge 3, producing a high volume of plasma in a directed burst that can tear through weaker enemies with ease. Both busters required to channel single shot; dual shot not available.

>Buster - Prosser PG9 “Golfball” Chamber Ring
Mission 12: Wrent Asunder
74K
Amplifies buster shot damage at standard firing levels (including Charge 1 and Charge 2)

>Buster - Rage Circuit
Mission 11: Vixen Vexation
Yeouiju Favor, very expensive otherwise
Recycles wasted shield charge from chip damage into stored buster charge.

>Shielding - Increased Shield Strength
Mission 12: Wrent Asunder
40K
Amplifies shield reserve by 2 bars.

>Shielding - Increased Phase Margin
Mission 12: Wrent Asunder
47K
Increases invulnerability window by 71 microseconds.

>Shielding - Thermal Diffusion Algorithm
Mission 12: Wrent Asunder
42K
Decreases shield drain caused by thermal attacks.

>Hardpoints: Shoulder-mount
Mission 7: Where Eagles Dare
5k/15-20k/30k
Producing a shoulder hardpoint would be possible, and, by itself, cost anywhere from Z5,000 for a cheap and clumsy addition, to Z15-20,000, depending on specs and manufacturer, capping at around Z30,000 for the top-of-the-line models. You could contract Liberty Labs yourself to produce a well-fitted hardpoint assembly, if you wish.

>Hardpoints: Armor Hardpoint
Mission 7: Where Eagles Dare
10k
Unfortunately, it turns out that without DNA expressly dedicated to the purpose, the demands of a full hardlight armor layer are unavailable right now. They could, however, mount regular plating, likely ablative like the Berets'.
<While mounted, the extra armor would reduce mobility and interfere with Capacitor release to some extent.

>Back-mounted Saber Pack
Mission 7: Where Eagles Dare
50k
These do not come cheap, usually requiring a direct tap to the LIFE cell. By setting it to only use C. Capacitor energy, rather than an elaborate recharge buffer, Anode can get it for Z50,000, a third of the regular price. This has the side benefit of allowing a brief conduction field to linger when the blade is drawn, producing electrical strikes.
*For elemental sabers, they are treated as 2 different elemental strikes as Anode lacks the skill to engage both elements at the same time(for now).

>Point-defense drone
Mission 7: Where Eagles Dare
55k
As it stands, Anode's DNA doesn't support drones. Adding a drone component with market-standard autonomous systems would run Z55,000 zenny, even before the addition of any other customization.

We're not necessarily committing to either of them yet. We're buying the laser-frit at a discount, but we can hold off on installing it until we're ready to go after Atlantica/Gibbon/Yamatoad, to keep it from taking damage in the meantime.
>>
Actually, I have a question. How many times can we reapply the Anti-Laser Coating? Because we're also probably going to need it for Schwarzhound since he has laser weapons as well.
>>
>>2363560
Perfect. In that case, my vote is...

>>2363104
>Birdal I05 “Köpekbalığı” Aquatic Targeting Pointer
and
>A god damned CRATE of Anti-Robot Flares.

All of this voting has been very sensible so far, but I want at least one thing zany to balance it out. A crate full of robot seizure flares will suffice.
>>
>>2363104
Going with
>Köpekbalığı
>Rest of the 20k into flares

I don't want to go into our personal funds to get the Pullu, since I'm sure there's gonna be another shiny toy we want later.
>>
>>2363558
Yeah. We brought it up though, so it'd be kind of weird if we spent the money without consulting the 7th.

It would also probably be kind of weird to spend the money on a memorial when there's a war going on, but yeah. I think if we wanted to be maximally tactful, we could give what we've allotted to Commander Albatross, to be used at his discretion, for whatever purpose he sees fit, whether that's a memorial, upgrading somebody in the their unit who needs it, a new pool table, whatever. It'll be his to accept or turn down, and if we still want to do a memorial of some sort after the end of the uprising we can arrange it.

As for what we buy now, while we could probably pull off some sweet tricks with the inertial canceler, I'm going to pull for...

>Birdal I14 “Şişman” Targeting Pointer: tracks a moving enemy’s center of mass and velocity to determine where to aim to ensure a hit. Much more reliable the larger an enemy is. Z10,000.

Then maybe take three or four of those throwing knives, take the rest in cash, and put it towards squad upgrades.
>>
>Yeah. We brought it up though, so it'd be kind of weird if we spent the money without consulting the 7th.

IIRC, Anode only ever brought it up to Cathode. She said she'd mention it to Delphi from the First, and then Delphi never ever said anything about it.
>>
>>2363602
I've been a supporter of the memorial for quite some time, but with the war going on, I am starting to agree that it's just not something we should be doing.

That said, I don't think we need to spend it on upgrades.

It's never a bad idea to keep money around as an emergency fund. It doesn't even have to be an Anode emergency, either - Steel Berets, broken odds and ends, various other weird reploid problems (Baccarat?)... having some spare cash around might just make a difference if something random comes up, as India learned when Anode was dragged back from the underground Factory mission.
>>
Checked the archive further, not seeing any other mentions of it.

Ugh. I don't want to spend the memorial cash (since it's nice to have money spent on things tha aren't pure minmax), but from a character development standpoint it really makes sense.

Especially since Schwarz really hated memorials
>>
>>2363558
Partly I like the Himalayas being recognized as significant personal moment for Anode instead of just being filed away as just another cosmic kick to the dick, partly I don't find any of the upgrades as so necessary or enticing as to require dipping into the fund. As for it being in poor taste, it's not like we're building a statue of Sigma. It's similar to renaming the bar after Dodo; a small, mostly sentimental gesture to acknowledge people who Anode feels gave more than what was asked of them in service of saving lives.

>>2363567
I considered that, but I just don't like the recurring cost of replenishing the Pullu's cells, especially since we've already got the emergency battery replacements and now the laser coating, though we've been relying on the emergency battery less as of late.

>>2363640
If I recall correctly, there was an idea to donate some of the fund to Lifesavers. Might be a good middle ground, less ceremonial and helps keep Hunters alive.
>>
>>2363740
Well, thing about the Pullu is apparently it's taking a shitload of abuse to burn out a cell. So I think it's more an admission that these devices are meant for longer term use but can (and do) get damaged in the field if it takes, like, Terapin tier beatings. Could be completely wrong, but don't think it's 1/mission at least.
>>
While I still like the inertial canceller, I'm starting to think that the Klaimor is a good investment for when we do want to build another melee weapon. Remaining money should be allocated for the purchase of knives and flares.

>>2363760
You underestimate Anode.
>>
>>2363740
>Partly I like the Himalayas being recognized as significant personal moment for Anode instead of just being filed away as just another cosmic kick to the dick

Remember what Crucifer said;

>“Well, me, I’d tell you you can’t fix it.

We're better off using that money on making sure we can prevent another Saetos Incident.
>>
>>2363782
Thinking on that, one thing I like the idea of is starting an assist fund. The sort of thing you later dip into for stuff like helping a sidelined Hunter come back, or for saving towards giving the next mav assault a giant middle finger in some form of defensive precautions. Memorial not through some statue, but in something that can do some good.
>>
From a narrative standpoint, yeah, I don't really see anything here that works as a way to spend it on a nonmemorial thing.
>>
Ugh, would like to change my vote to the Aquatic Targeter, but now Cain Labs is making me paranoid. Any way we can get a very quick rundown on aquatic op changes? Or hold off confirming purchases until after?

Agreed on the memorial funds as well, we still need to buy three EAS on top of our own upgrades, and that's not helping.
>>

What does change during an aquatic op?
>>
>>2364729
Tough to tell. We've had exactly one, and in difficulty level it was about the opposite of the at-least-one we have left.

Okay, I literally just got home. Meetings that I was expecting to run long ran longer.

Pretty much almost definitely no post tonight.

>>
>>2363104
I still think we should go with the
> Ejderha ZA6 “Pullu” Shield Supplement
We honestly take enough punishment on missions to warrant it
>>
>>2364823
that's not......EXACTLY true. In terms of sheer Charge expended, we get a lot more bang for buck, but controlling WHERE the electricity goes is harder. A lot more friendly fire can be expected if we take any allies along.

good thing there's a lot more enemies than allies on the yamatoad op!
>>
>>2363104
> Ejderha ZA6 “Pullu” Shield Supplement: 2 cells
Would be nice to have in a pinch
>>
With the Kuşatma, would the way to get good damage input be to rapid fire with one buster and fire off charged shots with the other?
>>
>>2366435
Unless we got an upgrade for it, I'm pretty sure they don't charge independently. I could be wrong.
>>
>>2366435
unless we need those first charged shots to clear out projectiles or mechaniloid minions, it would be better to just get the rapid fire done as soon as possible.

There aren't many enemies where charged shots are super important to dodge at the start of the fight.

No go on that.

Also, if I mathed it right, the Pullu wins by one vote over the Pointer. I'll see what that comes out to, what remainder there is, and then maybe toss in a few of the knives, those were popular.

As for TONIGHT'S preventing-me-from-writing episode, that would be the blizzard. Bonus thanks to my landlord for taking our snowblower and leaving us nothing!
>>
>>2367023
Are the knives reusable or are they one-use only?
>>
>>2367491
>Ejderha A9 “Pençe” Throwing Knives: Simple spherical design offers no hint of this tool’s true function. On interacting with a shield frequency, projects a hi-beam through its own surface to stab perpendicular to the discharge. One-use apiece but a terrible surprise for the unaware. Standard issue for Turkish military forces. Z1,000 apiece.

One-use apiece, but they sound like good aces to have up our sleeve; essentially balls that we throw that then turn into stab-beams. That said, I'd say we get some practice in a sim or watch some videos before we go blowing them. Maybe practice with some similar sized and weighted orbs at the range.
>>
>>2367531
Is it bad that I'd honestly prefer ceratanium blades that then emitted a hibeam blade after initial impact? Mainly because then we could find ways to make it even stabbier with Em's help.

Hell, HC, how much would something like that cost, out of curiosity?
>>
>>2367023
If we can't get both, I'm fine with pullu plus 5000 or so in consumables.
>>
>>2367023
Hello HC, I just wanted to say what you’re doing here is wild. This has been one of those recurring quests in the catalog I just skimmed past for quite a while, but over the last week I’ve grinded through (grind isn’t a perfect descriptor, as it was all very enthralling stuff, but I can’t find a word I’d prefer) 82 threads of gold. While I’m late to this thread, I just wanted to say how damn great this whole business is and that I’ll (hopefully) be along for the rest of the ride.
>>
>>2367685
From one of those who has been here from the start on /tg/, welcome.
>>
>>2367693
It just astounds me how I’ve missed this for as long as I’ve been a part of the questing scene. Really makes me wonder what other long-running quests that belong to the cream I ignored because reading a massive backlog in the catalog is too much.

You're looking at that backwards. The quests with a massive backlog are often the ones worth checking on in the first place; they've held on to an audience long enough that they must be doing /something/ right.

Here's to driving Cain and Command to insanity!
>>
>>2367560

If I'm understanding the throwing knives correctly (and HC, please correct me if I'm wrong), they are explicitly made to not just pierce shields, but only activate if they /touch/ shields—so they're guaranteed to strike deep into their target's physical structure. Get a solid (lucky) torso hit with one of those, and we could one-shot even a fairly tough enemy.
>>
>>2368187
Don't think they're one shot tier, but that does tend to be how it's understood. Maybe core a Hama Hama out, but past that likely no one shots.
>>
>>2368187
They're much more accurate since you don't need to worry about the orientation of the weapon when it hits the target: the beam will immediately be towards the shield, even if you volley threw it.

Throwing knives are not as simple at all. Getting bumped with the butt end is far from lethal and embarrassing to see.
>>
>>2368276
double bladed throwing knives
>>
>>2368276
>Throwing knives are not as simple at all. Getting bumped with the butt end is far from lethal and embarrassing to see.

Most do not understand that there are fairly big differences between a blade designed to be thrown and a blade balanced for throwing. The end-over-end tumble throw of tends not to be the way you throw actual throwing knives.

The Pence (Turkish for claw) actually seem to be closer to beam shuriken rather than a beam throwing knives. I suspect they are also thrown more like a baseball pitch.
>>
>>2368397
Fairly sure we've actually threw our misericorde on the Geneva hostage op, so although it's got a different design now, Anode might actually be decent at throwing regular knives.
>>
>>2367491
One-use.
>>2367560
Not sure--we'd need to workshop that. If you wanted a ceratanium blade, it'd 1: be expensive, 2: need to be reusable, and 3: be pretty heavy. Not going to say it's outright impossible.
>>2367685
Hey, glad to hear it! Thanks for reading, and welcome to the Slow Times. Oh, and also the Fourth, I guess.
>>2367777
This week really was awful, though I wasn't expecting the snowstorm to compound my miseries. That said I'm going to resume right off the bat as soon as I can.
>>2368110
Honestly, he's pretty good at doing it to himself.
>>2368187
To an extent, yes. Oneshot things turf, not generally on the kind of stuff you want to draw a hibeam on, aside from maybe critical situations. It's a damn solid whack, though. A hibeam cut never tickles.
>>
Oh, just a thought for the next batch of mission selects, considering Yamatoad has moved out of position, it is entirely possible that we already missed the window where we could affect his outcome. Meanwhile, Gibbon has a giant laser cannon, Stellar is in weapon production, and Moloch is going to carve into different factions of Hunters until we put him down, likely also supplying the new tier of DNA mavs more to work with.
>>
>>2367685
HC does good work. Cain Labs, too.

Not many quests have so much planning put into them, it's mostly just a 'Make it up as we go along' affair, which is fine and can work very well, but it's nice to have something with a very deliberate structure and direction to it once in a while. It's also why I enjoyed Shadow Quest, Lamia Quest, and Joker Quest. You can feel when an author has sat down outside of the actual runtime and hashed out the details, the twists and turns, and considered how the players might react to them, ahead of time.

I mean, yeah, it makes things a little slower, but you can't deny that the quality is there.

SWORD?

I think Anode is currently in the Darkest Timeline, and turning down SWORD is when it diverged.

Consider: Every emotional problem Anode is currently facing could have been solved by SWORD.

Emerald is sulking because he doesn't think Anode could end him. However, if we had SWORD, not only would Emerald die from just being near Anode, he'd also go out with a smile on his face, for finally being able to see SWORD.

Some anti-reploid asshole uses only human guards, gets assassinated by Schwarz. But wait, look who it is, Anode on the scene taking out the trash with no collateral damage. SWORD's aura doesn't hurt humans.

Some asshole spying on us? Good luck seeing anything when your camera melts the moment it witnesses the majesty of SWORD

>>
>>2369274
Seriously speaking, theres a good chance Em would be dead if we took sword. Theres no way command would have okayed us going with Em to kamagawa. Either we would go alone and the sword would kill the camera and any good PR, or Em would go alone and i dont know if schwarz would have spared him.
>>
>>2369495
I think our stalker might be seeking to take our allies and make them maverick instead of stopping their deaths. Or renegade and attempting to fuck with maverick infection operations.
>>
>>2369495
On the other hand, we could have charged into the crowd of Mavericks at the start, turned on SWORD, killed all of them including Seven in five seconds, and then gone to save Kangawa before Schwarz or Em even got there. Then, with the cameras fucked, we could kill Kan- oh, wait, that's a bad thing.

Unfortunately, I came on to post some more bad news: I'm on deck for an all day overtime shift Saturday, now. Again, while I am also just incorrigibly lazy--this is why there's a gazillion years between MHQ threads. Something always comes up, usually several somethings.

P.S.: re: yarn saber: I took a quick poll of all my friends desperately hoping one of them had a PO Box, no such luck. I might need to go get one. Still interested!
