PART 3

You've just erased about three and a half hours of someone's life.

Well, not completely erased, really, just....selectively edited. Specifically, you've removed all memories concerning a large and impossible red diamond given to you by Karen, who may be a lot more otherworldly than you originally thought her to be. You gave it to Eddie so the amateur geologist could tell you something about it. Most of what he told you can be condensed into a couple of sentences: it's a geological impossibility, and it might be alive in a way not based on biology.

Karen's subtle warning about her nature being a secret prompted you to knock Eddie unconscious and remove any memory of the diamond and your involvement with it, replacing those memories with moments of daydreams and distracted thoughts, leaving him none the wiser, and hopefully a lot safer. You don't have a chance of lifting him up to a chair, though you make him a little more comfortable on the floor. He'll come to shortly, with memories gone and a slight headache, but otherwise unharmed. there shouldn't be any repercussions, which is a good thing, and you also took any notes he had regarding the heavy gem, though they may as well be in a foreign language.

It's a half hour into the second half of your preternatural biology class, and Lynnette is kindly taking notes for you. The werewolf whom Adele sent your way is probably off campus, and debating on whether he really wants you involved in his life. You're hoping the fact that he needs to pay you will make him decide against it, but you have your doubts. Kiora nuzzles you as she sits on your shoulder, and the cafeteria beckons, a latte sounding especially good right now, if only because it'll take your mind off of things. Still, you could catch the remaining hour of class.

Valerie is headed towards the gym, which she doesn't have any classes in. A fellow student and another transfer from your high school, she's a friend, though not the close friend that Lynne is. She hasn't seen you and Kiora waves to the back of her head; she's ignorant of your true nature and you may keep it that way for a while yet. Still, she doesn't have gym classes, and she looks pretty intent....

[] Catch up to Valerie; you could use a distraction, and she's good at that.
[] Head to class, you can talk to Lynnette at least.
[] Cafe time. You definitely need to rethink your situation at the moment.

If something funny is going on we're better off getting ahead of it.

Incidentally, The "Words" of Power is filled out but not fleshed out, and a known character list exists in the character sheet.

[X] Catch up to Valerie; you could use a distraction, and she's good at that.

You kind of hurry to catch up to Valerie, and Kiora, disliking the jostle, takes flight and ends up slowly fluttering around you. She's probably pretending to be a butterfly, but it's impossible for you to tell unless someone else mentions it.

Valerie hears you coming up behind you and slows, but only a little. "Hey, Cat. How're you?"

"Doing okay. Where are you off to? You don't have gym, do you?" She's got all those nice curves, and shows them off in jeans and sweaters.

"Nope, there's a tournament practice. The Jujitsu team is going to L.A. and they're having final tryouts." You slow a little, a touch disappointed. not a whole lot of interest in sports, much less wrestling. Valerie smiles and leans close, speaking in a faux conspiratorial whisper, complete with sing-song teasing. "Jack's gonna be theeere...."

You try and control yourself, but you can feel your cheeks start to heat up. He's definitely an exception to the 'not interested in sports' clause. She starts walking backwards and you find yourself following her; Jack is definitely distracting.

When you get to the gym, there's actually a fairly good sized audience. It's not like the bleachers are full or anything, but there's enough small groups that it looks busy. The thick mats take up most of the basketball court, and the clean white and black gi's of the martial arts class are accented with a few colors, most of them blue and purple, with a smattering of brown. White flashing on some of the belts mean some kind of degrees of training, but you're not all that familiar with that sort of thing.

The loud slap of someone hitting the mat as they fall echoes through the gymnasium, and Valerie grabs your hand to drag you to the middle row of benches. You spot Jack almost immediately; he's retying his brown belt, and talking with one of his fellow students. That warmth if back again and Val giggles. "I thought you might like this," she murmurs. She's not wrong at all.

Jack is one of those rare combinations of Hispanic and Caucasian that actually looks good, like he's got a permanent tan; his hair is wavy and black, but he's got hazel eyes to die for. Not to mention a body that's absolutely gorgeous. He glances at the mat as the coach steps between the two competitors, and you see a glint of gold from his ear, a single stud.

Valerie yanks you onto the bench, and you flush, embarrassed to be caught staring. "Why haven't you asked him out yet? It's not like you don't have a chance, you're cute as hell." At least she's keeping her voice down!

[] I've been busy with studies, a lot of studies....really, a lot.
[] You're joking right? He probably has half the girls on campus gunning for him.
[] We really don't run in the same circles, Val. But thanks....

[X] I've been busy with studies, a lot of studies....really, a lot.
[X] You're joking right? He probably has half the girls on campus gunning for him.
[X] Write in? No desire to be public enemy number one, thanks.

"I've been studying a lot, not just at school, you know? I mean, I'd love to, but I have no idea how I'd fit him in my schedule...." Yeah, that sounds lame even to you, though it's not entirely untrue. Kiora, sitting on the bench below yours and facing you, rocks back and forth, swinging her whole body on the edge of the bench with her hands between her spread legs to steady herself. She's grinning like an idiot, and the half truth is almost as embarrassing as her knowledge that it's a half truth.

Sadly, Valerie isn't buying it either. "Seriously? You need to get a life, Cat, and I'm not saying that to be mean or anything. You get holed up in your studies and never get out much. Besides...." she adds with a wicked grin, "I noticed that you didn't exactly disagree with me about being cute as hell." Kiora is nodding sagely as she rocks back and forth.

Sighing, you relent. "Okay, yeah, I could probably stand to lose a little study time. But come on, Val, he's got to have half the student body drooling after him, and not just the girls either." That makes Valerie blush, and you mentally rack up a point. "Besides, I know what kind of competition I'm facing, and I'd rather not make enemies out of every living female on campus if it's all the same to you." You hug your book bag and roll your eyes dramatically. "Besides, with my luck he's probably a devout Catholic and would freak out if the local witch on campus approached him and asked him for a date."

"Well, I wouldn't mind getting staked by that. Would you?" she asks, as he rolls his shoulder and the soft canvas of his gi stretches tight over powerful back muscles.

"That's vampires, and they burn witches at the stake," you murmur distractedly. "I could probably handle being burned if it got me in that man's bed though." Kiora's distraction draws your attention, and you surreptitiously glance behind you. It's noticed by the grey-eyed girl behind you, unfortunately, but it's not a threat; Cam is nice enough, if a little weird.

Like you should talk.

[] Say hi to Cam, go back to watching Jack, who is up next to spar.
[] Invite Cam to join you and Val. She's gonna want you to model for her though. She always does.
[] Just give her a wave, she'll understand. Besides, she kind of makes you nervous.

Cameo - though you don't call her that in public - is not just a wanna-be artist, but an actual 'I sell stuff and make gobs of money' artist. She's definitely got that dykish vibe, though she's never made any moves on you or Lynne....or for that matter, anyone else that you're aware of. Still, black slacks and a trim vest, nice shoes, a couple of expensive rings, and a men's style dress shirt makes her seem like a dyke, despite the long platinum blonde hair braided down to her thighs. Not having much in the way of chest or curves doesn't help, sadly.

"Heya, Cam. come join us plebeians down here." Valerie looks up and back and grins, waving to Cam. Kiora flutters up, and gets waved at by Valerie, who is clearly seeing something bug-like. Valerie doesn't seem to notice the pixie settling on your shoulder, though Cameo does; you suspect that Cam has an trace of faerie blood in her ancestry somewhere, and her pale skin and delicate bone structure hint at it, certainly, but it's a bare trace if it exists at all. You know she carries a four-leaf clover encased in lucite, though, and that's enough to grant her some protection from Kiora's glamour.

"I'm honored to grace the huddled masses with my divine presence," she murmurs, her voice rough from smoking or inhaling too much plaster. Could be either. "I didn't expect to see you here, Caitrin. Valerie wouldn't be anywhere else, with this much beefcake to delight in."

"Guilty as charged, yer honor," Valerie quips, making you smile. Cameo sits next to you, and leans forward, elbows on her knees. She tips Kiora a wink, and Kiora smiles shyly and leans up against you in a rather coy manner. "Headhunting, oh mistress of dragons and maidens?"

"A bit," Cam replies casually. You smile wryly as she looks at you with those pale grey eyes, her own mouth twisting into a wry smile as well. "I suspect I've already struck out here though."

"That would be correct," you proclaim, "even if you offer me twice the pay of the others." Cameo doesn't just paint people - she paints on people. And preferably nude. Her work is amazing, but you're just not up to having another woman paint your body without your clothing on, job or not. Not yet anyways. Maybe if you were strapped for cash, because she pays really well.
>>
"Where is your taller shadow?" Cameo asks mildly.

"Probably in class, which I am skipping for the sole purpose of seeing Jack hand someone's ass to them," you inform the artist. Val tugs on your dress and you turn your attention back to said ass-handler. Which brings to mind certain images that make your cheeks go all blotchy, you're sure. Tiny 'tsking' noises from Kiora makes it worse, and Cameo politely pretends to ignore you. "Oh hush, you."

While directed at your diminutive companion, Valerie looks over at you with a truly evil grin. "Oh, I'd bet you'd like him to hand your ass," she teases, and you swat her on the shoulder, while you studiously ignore the obscene movement your shadow is making. Cameo looks at your shadow, and then at you, rather quizzically.

[] Okay, yes, I have a crush, happy now? Jeeze, you three.
[] Yeah, it does that. I'm gonna nail it to the floor one of these days.
[] If Peter Pan were around, he could have my shadow. I'd be getting the better of the deal.

Random musing time, I wonder if we were of greek origin if we'd have a torch instead of a dagger, and a hound instead of a faerie.
>>
[X] Yeah, it does that. I'm gonna nail it to the floor one of these days.

You look at your shadow, which is currently miming fellatio on it's knees, and sigh. "If I didn't think it would hurt me, I'd nail it to the floor with silver," you comment mildly. "I don't know why it does that. I thought there was a pwca involved, but no, it's just my shadow and it does this stuff."

Valerie glances at you, but keeps most of her attention on the mats, where jack and his opponent, a beefy young man with a brown belt of his own, are headed to the middle. "Phoo-what?" she asks.

"Puhooka. Mishcief-fae, invisible rabbits and mimics. There was an old movie about one, called Harvey."

Valerie's eyes light up in recognition. "Oh, yeah, I've seen that. I liked it."

Cameo laughs softly. "Not a curse either?"

"Nope. Just something weird." Valerie snickers and you hit her lightly on the arm. "Hey!"

"Come on, match is starting!" she admonishes and all three of you turn your attention to the mat, where Jack is facing off with his heavier opponent. "Damn, someone's gonna get hurt," Valerie exclaims, lookign at the big guy's determined expression. Jack bounces on the balls of his feet a couple of times, then settles into a ready stance. they've already bowed to one another and the coach, who looks at each man in turn.

"Won't be Jack," you say matter of factually, and Kiora looks up at you with interest. You give the barest shake of your head; you wouldn't dream of interfering with someone's tryouts like that, even if you were going out with him. A real fight, maybe, but you don't want to mess this up for him.

"I think I'm with Caitrin," Cam murmurs, her eyes sleepy but watchful. "The other guy is way too stressed out."

"Doesn't mean he's not good," warns Valerie, and you have to admit she has a point as the big guy steps in and lashes out with a surprisingly quick leg-hook, which Jack deftly avoids. They get their arms on each other's biceps, and you watch them jockeying for leverage....you have to admit that there is a certain excitement to it. The big guy manages to pull Jack slightly off balance and there is a heavy thud at the same time as Jack slaps the mat loudly with his arm to cushion his fall. "Told ya," Val claims smugly.

"You did, but that's only one half of a point," Cam reminds her gently. They square off again, and the coach places a hand between them. This time when they start Jack lowers his center of gravity and waits, while the beefy fellow, switches stances a couple of times. this time when he moves in, Jack moves in faster and his hand smacks the big guy's chest as he gets a leg behind the big guy's. The big guy almost fends off the other hand, but it's too late. This time he's the one slapping the mat, and Jack gets a whole point.
>>
>>2337184
"Jeeze, that was quick," Val says, her excitement infectious.

"Yeah," you breathe, and Kiora grins up at you, her lavender and pink eyes wide. Her interest makes you blush; you studiously ignore her, which only makes her smile more broadly. When they square off again, the big guy is clearly angry, though more out of his own embarrassment. When the coach steps back, Jack is there, in his face, faster than you imagined he could move. The big guy steps back but Jack's arm darts under his and Jack turns and bends, hurling the guy over his hip and shoulder. He follows the big guy into the mat, not quite going to one knee, and he clearly strains, keeping the other guy from going down as hard as he could have. The slam and slap are almost simultaneous, and the big guy rolls away, looking winded but not pissed off. "God," you whisper, thinking of how the Horned One must have blessed Jack.

"Wow," agrees Valerie. you two aren't alone in the sentiment, and the coach awards Jack the two points, and he and his adversary shake hands amicably.

"I'd love to get his shirt off," Cameo purrs, and you blush, because the image of Cam slathering paint on him with her hands is strong. Kiora lights on your shoulder and hums softly in your ear.

"Fuck that, I want his goddamn pants," Valerie murmurs.

You notice movement on the opposite bleacher, and see Rebecca and Christine and some new girl, equally pretentious in attitude and attire walking down the steps. What you don't like is that Rebecca meets your eyes, and smiles smugly at you. Valerie notices, and she glances at you with an equally wicked, but much more thoughtful grin. Jacks is moving towards your set of bleachers, though, and that means you could get there first. Cameo is watching you with interest, while Val is clearly about to say something about you going down to ask him on a date. Rebecca sneaks a shot of her middle finger at you, and manages to walk even more sluttily down the stairs, if that's possible.

[] Yeah, time to go. You don't need to be here for this, it's just painful.
[] ....if Valerie suggests it, sure, you'll go down and ask him out.

[X] You only live once. Why not go for it? Aside from the obvious reasons.
[X] Rebecca can take a tumble, especially after she flipped you the bird just now, that self centered bitch.

Your shadow is laughing uproariously at you, and you feel something hot and angry slide through your chest. You close your right eye, and frame your brown eye between pinkie and pointer fingers, thumb tucked and giving Rebecca the back of your hand. It's not a hex, no, but The Horned God doesn't like other people taking his thing in vain any more than any other deity does; an an invocation for revenge is not something he would take offense at. They use the excuse of the phallic middle finger being a ward against witches to flip you off, but it's not a ward against a witch with no issues about men.

The Horned God's Sign, on the other hand, is far more potent when used by such a witch.

Rebecca's expression falters, and so does her left ankle; she gasps and then yelps, turning as she falls across the stairs and a bench. She doesn't hit her head or break anything, but she does yelp, and a few people - including a small bevy of men and boys - go to help. You stand up and Kiora's bell like laughter rings softly in your ear as you gather your book bag.

Valerie stands up. "Hey, this is your chance!" You hesitate, and Valerie tugs your arm. You look down and see what she's seen: jack apparently has zero interest in helping out the fallen woman, more interested in getting a drink and watching the show from a distance. A couple of other members of the team go to 'help', and your pretty sure Rebecca will half appreciate and half hate the attention resulting from her fall, but Jack isn't concerned for her. "Come on, you'll never get a better chance!" she insists softly, though you're some distance from him.

"Here." You turn to look into the grey eyes of Cameo. She holds out two card stock tickets, cunningly decorated with an image of a girl's back with a landscape designed onto it that incorporates her hair and her hands as she holds up said hair. Invitations to a gallery showing. "Even if he says no, I'd like you to come. I want you to meet my muse." She smiles, her eyes almost sparkling, and you look between the two of them.

Taking a deep breath you sigh. "I'm never going to hear the end of it if I don't, am I?" Cam shakes her head solemnly.

"You bet your ass you ain't," Valerie warns you.
>>
"That's not how ain't works, you know," you murmur, while Kiora takes flight and darts overhead, watching from on high. You take another deep breath and steel yourself, walking down the steps towards the gymnasium floor. Rebecca is getting more than her share of attention, but her eyes catch sight of you, and the ugly look she shoots you is pretty hard to ignore. Christina's is fearful, as well as angry. You force yourself to look down the steps, not willing to risk a similar - and more natural - accident yourself. "And you, behave yourself, or I'll pull a Peter Pan on you, cut you off, and sew you back on tight enough that you won't eve rmove again." Your shadow makes calming motions, but it has no expression to read, so who knows.

The Berkeley Branch Brazilian Jujitsu Team has a fair number of members - nearly forty, which is an impressive amount of people for the area. Men and women from the college and outside of it are members, and a fair number are milling about, taking with friends or family, and generally relaxing, though some show a fair interest in the drama across the way. Gingerly holding the expensive tickets you approach the handsome young man. You suspect they're something like thirty or forty dollars....each, so they're nothing to sneeze at. It's a three day afair too, so you have some-

"Hi, Caitrin, isn't it?" You can't keep the surprise off your face, but it only makes sense he knows who you are; there aren't many other people like you, after all.

"Ah, yeah. That was an incredible match. I caught the tail end of it; you really laid that poor guy out." You struggle to keep your wits, but it's not easy.

"Brad? Yeah, he's a great guy. But I made the meet, so, I gotta thank him for not being quite as good, I guess?" He fakes a frown. "Not quite the way it should have come out, really."

You laugh. You can't help it, he is kinda funny, but half of it is nerves. Looking up at him - he's not Lynne's height, but you not exactly on the tall side to begin with - you hold up the tickets. "If you're not doing anything Sunday, would you like to come to an Art show with me? I promise it'll be something you'll enjoy." What guy wouldn't like looking at half or fully naked girls, really. "I have a personal invite from Cam Harper, and she gave me two tickets....so, would you mind being my 'plus one'?"

His eyebrows jump. "Cam Harper? That's high class stuff. You know her?" You give him a smile and point back up the bleachers, where Valerie is talking animatedly to Cam, who is lounging back with her feet on the bench in front of her, leaning back on the one behind her. She sees you wave, and waves back, while Valerie waves down to you when she notices the attention. "Huh, never would have guessed!" Turning back to him, he looks at you and smiles. "Sure. I'd like to be your plus one."
>>
A warmth suffuses your belly, and you smile up at him. "Thank you Jack. I appreciate it." You reach into your book bag, losing the tickets, and replacing it with a card bearing your name, number and email. "Here. Give me a call later, and we'll talk times."

He takes it and nods agreeably. "You sure you don't want to go out for pizza or sandwiches a little later first?" Startled by the idea, you nod mutely. Jack's smile is bright, cheerful even. "All right. I'll call you after we end today's ses-whoops. Sorry, Caitrin, gotta go." the couch is calling his students to the mat, and you nod, still a little shell shocked. As he heads back, he turns and gives you a small wave, and you shyly wave back as Kiora lands on your shoulder.

"Lynne's never gonna believe this," you inform the pixie, who nods in agreement.

You have a date.

It's not even technically a date, it's an actual date.

With a handsome, fit young man who might actually like you.

Well, he thinks enough of you to invite you to hang out with him before settling on an actual plan for the date. That actually is kind of impressive, and a little scary, if only because you don't generally hang out with anyone much. Even your friends.

You also gave the evil eye to someone who already doesn't like you, and probably stole her chance to ask him out first. Though technically you aren't officially dating, so it's not like he can't see other girls, or you can't see other boys. At least, that's how you think it works as long as it's not official. Still, a first date is a step towards making it official, and you're pretty sure that Rebecca isn't going to forgive you for this at all. Still, her 'accidental misstep' garnered her a lot of attention and sympathy form other members of the Berkeley Brazilian Jujitsu Class, so she should be occupied for a while.

Making your way back up the bleachers, your friend Valerie and your stalker-acquaintance Cameo seem pretty interested in how things went. Kiora is riding on your shoulder, and she seems pretty calm about it all, which only makes you want to freak out more. Your heart is still pounding and you're feeling a little flushed, but that to be expected. Valerie is practically bouncing in place while Cam is stretched out over three benches.

"What'd he say, what'd he say?!" Valerie is irrepressible, and Kiora glances at you curiously. Cam is smiling, though, the platinum blonde artist pretty certain of your answer already.

"He said he'd be happy to be my plus one to Cam's show," you say slowly, which nets you a squeal from Valerie and a smile from Cameo. Cameo didn't just invite you to the show and give you free tickets for the sole purpose of getting you a date, though. she mentioned something about meeting her muse, and that is kind of ominous in this day and age, when sidhe can walks the streets and lycanthropy is a treatable disease, and where witches walk about campus and curse yuppie bitches who make fun of them. Well, you didn't actually curse her, just let her reap a little bad luck for insulting you. "He also invited me to pizza or sandwiches later today to talk about it."

Cameo raises an eyebrow at that. "Really? And you accepted?" That heat suffusing your cheeks would be your patented red-headed blotch-blushing.

"Awww, our little girl is growing up," says Valerie in a sugary tone of voice.

[] You do know that I am a witch, and can curse you unto the seventh generation, right Val?

[X] It's not that I'm incompetent, just busy, Val. Be nice.
[X] Write in? I'm expecting to look like a hag by the time I finish college.

You tilt your head and smile faintly. "I'm busy, Valerie, not incompetent. I've actually been on dates before, just not for a while." She looks at you dubiously while Cameo sits up, wearing a faint smile of her own. "I fully expect to have green skin, warts on my long green nose, and a massive floppy brimmed hat by the end of the semester if I'm doing it right." Val snickers.

"Might want to check with Jack about the nose thing. He can probably break it a few times for you." Cam's soft rejoinder makes you blush.

"Noooo, that's okay, thanks." Cam stands up. "Heading out?"

"Time for my sculpting class. Wireframing is a nightmare." You nod and she smiles. "I'll look forward to seeing you at the show."

"Probably Sunday," you mention, to which Valerie pipes up, "Oh, not a Catholic then?"

"Dunno, didn't get that far. But he knows about me, so it's safe to say he's not planning on burning me at the stake."

Kiora glances at you and waggles her hand palm down. You studiously ignore her since Valerie isn't seeing her, while Cam stifles a laugh. "Be good Cait," she murmurs, and you glance over at the largely vacated bleachers across the way.

"Little late for that," you admit, which earns you a bemused look. You shake your head with a smile and Cam give Valerie a pat on the head, which prompts a giggle and some friendly swatting.

[] Take your leave of Val, head back to class, which will be getting out by the time you get there. Lynne is gonna want to know.
[] Text Lynne, let her know you're off to the library to research stuff, and do that very thing.
[] See what Valerie is up to - though she's going to want to know what Jack texts you, since the jujitsu class is almost over.

[X] Text Lynne, let her know you're off to the library to research stuff, and do that very thing.
[X] Write in? Let her know you have a date....and nothing more than that!

Valerie is up and stretches a little, still grinning. "I'm going to head out too; I've got library work that i need to get done." Before she can ask, you tell her, "Yes, Val, I'll let you know how our meetup goes and if I still have a date for Sunday."

"You better or i'll dump a bucket of water on you." You stick your tongue out at her, and she snickers. "Promises promises. Oh, there's Reggie. I'll catch you later Cat." She takes the steps two at a time as she heads down to meet her boyfriend, who is a purple belt, and who seems pretty happy to see Valerie too. You smile as they hug, and she gives him a kiss, wondering if you'll ever feel that comfortable with anyone, much less Jack.

Making your way to the far side of the bleachers, you double check to make sure Rebecca and her current groupies are nowhere in sight before you head down. she's not, and they're not, so you take the time to text Lynne.

Hey, I'm headed to the library to do some research. Also, got a date.

The response is fairly quick.

WITH WHO???

You tuck your cell phone away with a grin and head towards the library, allowing your paranoia to get the better of you as you check the grounds for signs of yuppie bitches. With none in evidence, things go fairly smoothly, aside from a very stupid bird trying to make off with your familiar, much to its regret. Kiora sticks close to you after that, tying a trio of blue jay feathers in your hair as trophies. "I hope you cleaned those," you murmur plaintively and she makes an affirmative noise in your ear.

Mrs. Finch is off duty, but the aides are ever present, of course. You find a few reference books on lycanthropy, and look up some of the more scientific and medical information. Mystical information isn't very commonplace, but there are a few people who write journals and such, and you borrow two of those off the shelf as well. Nothing to take home, but something to get you started.

As you told Lynnette, you'd be shocked if he didn't show up or call.
>>
The basic facts aren't too terribly different from the few things you did learn in class, but there are some interesting side notes. The transformation is widely regarded as magical just on the basis of the conservation of matter. enough lead or physical damage can kill a werewolf; their allergy to silver is common knowledge, and they can take a huge amount of damage before dying or even losing body functions permanently. Transformation almost entirely heals them, but only the strongest can do so several times in a day; most can manage once or twice at best. Oddly, most werewolves turn into wolves, and not into half-man, half-beast hybrids; that seems to be something that only those suffering from infected lycanthropy have. The moon thing is religious, rather than mystically enforced, again with the exception of infected lycanthropes.

You lean back in your chair and notice Lynne entering the library; she spots you almost immediately (considering the vibrant colors you are wearing, this isn't a surprise at all). You wave as she rushes through the library, annoying the aides at the front desk with her pace. Kiora waves too, and then goes back to making paper hats out of some nearby scratch paper.

[] Tell her up front now that she's here; she's sweet and you don't want to annoy her, just tease her a little.
[] Keep reading, you want to finish this paragraph, of course you're not ignoring her (heh hehe heh).
[] wait out the inevitable barrage of questions before you tell her anything more.

[X] Keep reading, you want to finish this paragraph, of course you're not ignoring her (heh hehe heh).
[X] Write in? keep it down, we're in a library!

Lynne sits down next to you at the table and takes a deep breath, but before she can say anything you lift up a finger, using your other index finger to show the line you're reading. Kiora waves at the tall girl, and she waves back rather impatiently; Kiora (fortunately) doesn't take offense. It's actually pretty fascinating; the silver allergy seems to be an intensified version of the allergy some people have with all metals aside from near pure silver, gold, and platinum. The mystical reason of course is that it's the lunar metal, and it's purity and that the moon's power over the forces of change grants silver its potency to harm shapechangers and lycanthropes.

You're not really sure if it works that way, but you know they react to it as though it was burning hot. You notice Lynne reaching out to stroke Kiora's bow; she's still wearing the ribbon that Lynne gave her. "It's rude to touch without being invited, though I think Kiora likes you enough that she'll allow it. Also, dangerous." Lynnette looks at you dubiously. "She can break your finger. Or, if she gets leverage, tear it out of its socket."

Lynne stares at you. "Yeah?"

You twist off one of your rings, a simple copper one, wide and decorated with Celtic knot-work. You hold up your hand and she stares at the scar circling your pointer finger. The scars on either side of the second joint are harder to see. "Yeah. It wasn't Kiora; I was only six at the time and didn't know better. Fairy didn't like that I touched his clothing, so he ripped my finger off. Dad came outside to the screams, of course, and they got it sewed back on." You set the book aside and she shakes her head, not quite in disbelief. "So....you know Jack Richards?"

Her eyes widen. "Yeah....really?"

"Cam and Val put me up to it. I asked if he'd like to be my plus one to the art show that's hosting Cam's stuff. Uh, people. Whichever!" Do you refer to people as canvases when they're being painted on? you haven't the foggiest.

Lynne's blushing and you grin. Cam is the only person who puts Lynne off her footing. "So, uh, Cam's got an art show?" You nod. "When?"

"She gets you wound up, huh?" you tease gently and she bites her lip. "You're such a goofball, Lynne. This weekend. And I'm gonna see Jack tonight, too, just to make the plans solid."

"Aww, my little girl's all grown up," she says with a smile, echoing previous sentiments.
>>
"Seriously, what is it with you people? I'm not celibate, I'm busy!" Kiora looks up at you dubiously. "Hush, you!" you order, and she shrugs mildly, flattening out the hat and tucking it in her ribbon-corset. You think about it and frown. "Actually, I'm really busy. I have another date on Friday, I guess."

"You mentioned something like that....who is the lucky gal, anyways?" Lynnette looks at you in a truly innocent manner, and you hesitate. You doubt that Karen would mind if it was Lynne; the only reason you've never formed a coven with her is because you need a third.

[] No one you'd know, actually. I suppose I could try and arrange meeting....
[] Her name's Karen, and she's an older lady. Much, much, much older.
[] Probably shouldn't tell you just to be on the safe side....but she'll keep me out of trouble.

"You don't - I should say, you probably don't know her. She has a couple of other people she's friends with. Her names pretty common - Karen - so that won't help much." She agrees, but more because she doesn't know any Karens at all. "I suppose we could arrange a meeting. At the very least you can see me off to go dancing with her, if you don't meet her sooner."

"I think you'd look good in something small and black. Maybe white, but I think black." You feel your cheeks start to heat up. "She's definitely a talking dog situation, huh?"

You glance at your book bag, which has either a worthless but pretty gem or an incredibly valuable and possibly dangerous piece of shapeshifter in it. "Oh yeah, very much so. And we should set up a time for the rituals; the one that will help us with sneaking is about six hours, so there's no way we're going to get both in one go. It lasts a month though."

"Ouch. Well, we can do the sisterhood one tonight. My house or yours?"

"Mmm, yours, we can use the Jacuzzi for the pool." Kiora nods eagerly. She likes the Jacuzzi. "I can have the stuff ready by seven. you have classes tomorrow?" She shakes her head. "You have wine glasses? We'd need about seven, though fifteen is ideal." the meandering walk is easier if there's room to move around in.

"Real glass ones?" You give her a flat look. "Sorry, stupid question. I can get that many leaded crystal ones. Living room okay?"

With a nod you reply, "Anywhere we can get moonlight into the room. It's just past full, so that should be fine. Light or no clothing, too. I have plenty of candles."

"Sounds good. So, Waking the witch tonight, and....um."

"Cat's Paws."

"Cat's Paws ritual tomorrow night, then my meet on Thursday, and Friday at the very least, I meet your mysterious lady friend." She grins and winks. You feel your cheeks heat up and you swat her thigh. She starts to yelp, but you glare at her and she covers her mouth tightly. "Sorry, sorry." Kiora gives her a thumbs up though, the traitorous brat. "You know, I really think you could do good in a sapphire blue number."

"Do you want me to curse you?" Your phone chimes. "Oh....um. " You text back, trying to ignore the rising heat in your cheeks. and elsewhere. Lynne looks supremely interested. You sweep most of the books into your arms. "About two hours, at the Pizza Place." You can't believe how fast your heart is beating. Packing the books on the trolley, you turn and face Lynne, who smiles warmly at you. she's actually happy about this. "Laugh it up, beanpole.

"Oh, I am, I am," she readily agrees and you sigh, while Kiora leaps into the air and circles you both before landing on your shoulder and finger-waving at Lynne. "Good luck, Cait," she adds as she lifts her own book bag and takes off. You take a deep breath.

"This could really suck," you inform your pixie, and she looks at you mildly. "Come on, lets get you washed up and iron that pretty ribbon of yours." Kiora nuzzles you gently. "i thought you'd like that idea...."

It's certain better than some of the others you've had today, it feels like. A freaking date, Goddess and Gods Will be done.
