It is certainly a strange, and somewhat gruesome sight to see someone's body be disintegrated away. You had seen it happen a few times before, yet the fleshy spectacle still left its imprint in your mind. The precision of the laser and the removal of body tissue really was a sight from beyond your scope. It was alien in how advanced it seemed, and somehow very human in how efficient it operated. You had practically calculated it in your mind on how long that process took, roughly about 6 seconds given how large the body it was transporting usually was.

It was strange meditative thought to have as Paula was sent away, though it wouldn't have surprised you if the others had thought something similar when you or someone else was sent away. Curiosity is something very morbid and lacking in morality for most people, so it made you feel better that you weren't alone in such a strange line of thinking. Your self-indulgent philosophizing was cut short, as a laser descended on your head and began repeating the process of cutting you apart and shipping you away.

Given how sadistic Gantz seems, you were surprised that its primary method of transportation wasn't at all painful. It was not unpleasant yet it wasn't gentle in how it cut you apart, it only did so and left no pronounced feeling to it. Whoever or whatever had made this method of transport, had prioritized expediency without complications. Your thought finished however, as your eyes were met with that familiar blue of the laser and found them staring at a familiar unfurnished apartment room and three other familiar faces.

You're met with a few pleasant glances as the rest of body is transported into the room. Paula is near the door, looking at you with a pleasant smile, while Dante gives you a quick glance of notice while returning to look at Gantz. Carol however, has a more cringing look on her face.

"That's still gross," she comments, while her eyes follow the laser's movement, "like, how we even alive as it does that...?"

"Beats me," speaks Dante, as the process finishes and your feet finally touch the wooden floor, "I doubt anyone could explain it honestly..."

Paula turns to Dante, measuring him up somewhat, and he turns to look at her.

"When do they usually come in though?," Paula asks while you head to her side of the wall, "Erick came in after me, so is there like a delay for before more people arrive?"

It looked like Dante was about to say something before a shimmering laser from the ball begins materializing a person in the middle of the room. It's a white man in a jacket, with a rough patch of brown hair and beard to match. He looks about ten years older than you, yet has a muscular posture that stands almost as heavy as Dante.

He looks around the room, and furrows his brows before checking his left side on the jacket. Your eyes follow his fingers as they land on two very close holes.

"I'm..." he says as his gaze turns to the four of you, "...alive?"

"Do you want to explain or would you mind if i do it?", you say a you look at Dante, "Maybe explaining to people once they arrive, gives then more room to acclimate?"

"Sure, why not," he shrugs, and looks towards the man, "Time for change of pace, consider I've been doing it for so long."

"Hey!", the man raises his voice, looking agitated, "Don't fucking ignore me, I asked you a question. What is going on here?"

Paula's gaze narrows at the man, while Carol almost jumps at his outburst. You motion them to be cool, as you take a step from the wall and start explaining to the guy who just came in.

"You're not dead," you begin explaining, "But you did die, like all of us. We're alive, but only so long as we do what that thing tells us."

You point at the black ball, and the man's gaze follows your hand. His eyes narrow on Gantz, but he returns back to you almost instantly.

"What are you high?", he comments, somewhat confused, "Why would anyone believe any of that?! Is this some sort sick joke or something?! Where are the camera crew, you damn ha..."

He drones off before another body begins to get transported into the room. Slab by slab, the laser transports the body of a young, asian girl, with black hair, a white cardigan and jean shorts. His eyes affix on the gruesome spectacle as her body is brought in on the apartment's floor prone.

"Do you believe us now?" you reply, as his eyes wide and his breath increases, "This isn't a tv show, a prank, or some other fake shit, this is all real and if you want to get out alive you need to shut up and listen."

He takes a couple of steps back to the windowed wall, visibly shaken by the sight just nods his head to you. On the floor, the little girl get up to look around the room.

"Umm...", she begins, look you, "Do you know where my mom is?"

You feel a tap on your shoulder, and notice Paula's moved behind you.

"I'll handle this," she whispers in your ear, "You can take care of the others as they come in, or just that guy."

You nod your head, and Paula gives you "Thank you" before moving towards the young girl. She's definetely a child, but doesn't seem as afraid as you would image a child might be in a situation like this.

"Hey there," Paula says kneeling down and giving the girl a warm smile, "I'm Officer Paula, and I can help you find her."

"You're a police officer?", she looks quizzically at Paula, "Prove it!"

"Sure," Paula says, playing along, "but not here, some of these guys aren't all that good and may start to get testy with an officer in the room."

The girl still looks a little unsure, but nods her head and follows Paula out the door to the hallway. Before she leaves however, you flash her a wry smile. She returns it in kind, before she closes the door behind her.

You turn to the man on the wall. His breath has calmed down, and his eyes fixed on the ball.

"What the fuck is this man...", he lets out, "The army doesn't train you for this sort of shit..."

OOC: I'll incorporate this in the next post if you guys want to.

"Who are you exactly," you speak as you take a few steps towards him, "I can guess you're in the army but what's your name."

His gaze leaves the Gantz ball, and he looks at you again. He lets out a sigh, and takes out a set of dog-tags from his inner shirt.

"Corporal Kurtis Yates," he makes a pathetic salute at you, "honorably discharged, and shot down by a loyal citizen of the US of fucking A."

"You got shot?" Dante asks, somewhat surprised, "How did that happen?"

"Saved, or tried to at least, a woman near Woodridge," he says, shaking his head, "two guys were robbing her, would have called the police if my phone was still working. That's what you get for trying to be a hero."

'Ain't that the truth' you think as you look over his dogtags.

His name is sketched onto the metal, and a sequence of numbers that you guess may his platoon or squad. He retracts them back under his shirt, and begins to look at Carol expectantly.

"Hey, do I know you?" he says, as Carol looks right back curiously, "Because...I swear, I feel like I've seen you somewhere..."

"No, I don't think so," she says, staring quizzically back, "maybe you know my brother? He's about a head taller than me and works down by the gas treatment plant?"

Kurtis sadly nods his head, and Carol looks somewhat disappointed. She returns to leaning on the wall, and jumps slightly as a noise comes from Gantz.

There's a whirr in Gantz before the laser begins transporting someone else. Judging by his appearance, the guy looks Indian, lightly built and slightly younger than Carol. It doesn't take long for him to start panicking as well.

"Holy fuck...", he speaks as his eyes dart around the room, "H-hey...is this...the fairway?"

"What do you think," Kurtis speaks up, his face showing a little disgust at the sight of the teleportation, "long way from the road kid."

He's visibly shaking, and goes to touch his head and neck. He briefly calms down and sits down on the floor.

"I'm alive..." he says, as he's looking around, "right?"

"Long story short," you say, as both Kurtis and the new guy look at you, "yes, and I would suggest you both listen closely to what I'm about to say."

The Indian guy looks at you with a fearful glance but doesn't utter a single word as you start your explanation.

"We were given a second chance," you start, "But it's up to that machine to decide what happens with that second chance. "

You point to Gantz, and both of them look at it intently. Kurtis has his face furrowed at the ball, expecting it to pop out a gun and shoot him right then and there. While the Indian guy just looks at it with fear and confusion as you continue on.

"In a few moments, that ball is going to open up," you speak a little louder, to get their attention on you, "And equipment is going to be served out of it for us. It is preparation for a hunt."

"If you've shot a gun before," Dante interjects, looking at Kurtis, "or had military training, you may have higher chances of making it through this."

Kurtis turns to you, somewhat more confused than before but at the same time his voice carries a bit more acceptance.

"So, it wants us to kill something then?", he says, curiously, "What exactly?"

You take a slight breath, trying to come up with a sensible way of saying this, "An alien."

The door to the hall opens up, and Paula enters the room again.

"Carol," she speaks, motioning to her, "can you please help me out here?"

"S-sure...", Carol says, as she makes for the door with the room still stunned in silence. It doesn't take long before Kurtis laughs in abject disbelief.

"A-are you shitting me right now?!" he says between laughs, "Alright, fuck it let's go then Men in Black. Which government organization are you with and please tell me Spooky Mulder is involved!"

"Hey buddy, we're trying to help you out," Dante speaks up, coming closer to Kurtis, "if you don't want to know, that's on you but my friend is not shouldering your fucking death because you didn't want to listen!"

It looks as if Kurtis is going to respond to Dante's outburst, but suddenly the laser materializes two more entities one right after the other. They are both black, around your age, with hoodies and baggy jeans. You can't see their faces too well because of the red bandannas, but you can certainly see the pistols right above their hip lines.

You take a step back and look at Dante, a look of worry is on his face as well. You nod to where you saw the gun on their bodies, and he nods in agreement. He may have seen the bulges above their hips as well, and moves to them quickly.

He's one step away from them before they finish materializing and they both jerk away and shakily pull out their guns. They stare intently at the closest people in the room, you and Dante, while training their eyes specifically on you both. Dante and you don't waste any time as you both ready your guns to the closest one.

"Hey man, where the fuck are we?!", the taller of the two speaks up, looking at you, "And who the fuck are you two?! Are you with TJ?! That motherfucker is gonna sorry he didn't hog tie us before he done took us away."

"Hey man chill," Dante speaks up, with his X-rifle trained on the first one's head, "we'll let you know but you gotta drop the fucking gun."

"You first nigga," his friend says, as he trains his eyes on Dante's X-Rifle, "And you'd better do that shit right now."

"Don't do it," You say, as you train your y-gun on his friend, "and don't think I won't if you take another step forward asshole."

Kurtis and the Indian guy are looking at you both in equal courage and fear respectively. Though either of them decide to intervene or move for similar knowledge of what could happen if they did.

A few seconds pass as both you and Dante stare down at both of the assailants, with neither you or them moving an inch from your current stances. A bead of sweat forms on Dante's brow, as he keeps staring gunman in front of him. It won't be long before someone else makes a move here.

"You're with Alan's crew aren't you?" Dante speaks up, with both of the gunmen now pointing their pistols at you, "The Franklin Street Bloods, right? Who are you two?"

"What's it to you?" the taller one replies, "What if we are with A-List, what does that matter to you?"

"Because, if you shoot us," you start, Dante looks at you with a stare, "You're gonna start a fight with the Brookland Crips, and that's some shit you ain't gonna want to fall down on Alan's head now, do you?"

"Fuck you!," the smaller man depresses the trigger slightly,"It's kill on sight for any piece of shit Crip that comes 'round here. I don't care if you're not flying colors, you're dead shithead!"

"Shit," the taller man, the man says placing a hand on his friend's gun, "lower it, we're out of our league here. If we shoot, we're worse than dead and so is A-List..."

The smaller man hesitates, still pointing a gun at your head. You don't lower your gun either, your eyes fixed right on him as his hand starts shaking. Dante doesn't take anymore chances and knocks the gun right of his hand his is a solid kick to his wrist. It scatters away on the floor, and you now find yourself pointing your gun at the taller of the two. He nods his head and immediately places the gun down, placing his hands up.

"Alright, now that we're properly acquainted," you say, as you look at Dante, holding the other guy down in a pinned position, "I'm Erick, and that's my friend Dante, and let me tell you both to shut up and listen up if you want to live through this night."

"How did you know about the Brookland Crips," Dante asks, as the taller man look at you in disbelief.

"You get to know a lot of people when you work at Walmart, "You say, as the smaller man struggles beneath Dante, "Now, in a few moments that ball over there is going to open up."

You barely finish your sentence before Carol opens the door and a look of sheer rage is on her face. The muscles on her suit expand as she moves head first for the tall man before you.

"CAROL DON'T!!", you say as she passes Dante, "After the mission damnit!"

Carol barrels forward to the man, but the muscles on her suit retract visibly at your command. The man's reaction to this is almost instant as he goes to shield his face, but you know it won't matter either way. In spite of the suit's lowering, she manages a punch to the man's face that sends him into the wall. And she starts taking a few steps forward to continue her onslaught.

"Carol," you go to her, and restrain her with your arms, "What the hell are you doing?! I told you to-"

"It was him!", Carol shouts at the sprawled man, " it was him and fucking friend that killed me as I came back from school. I know that fucking bandana and those shitty hoodies anywhere, those fucking Bloods!"

"You think killing them is gonna change that!" you say as Carol keeps struggling, "You got to focus, and calm down dammit. Otherwise, we're all dead!"

As you and Carol keep struggling, the Indian guy and Kurtis are awestruck at the sight before them. It was like something out of a damn action movie, yet they can't help a sigh of satisfaction as they see the man on far wall. Kurtis turns from you and runs to the man sprawled against the wall, and places his fingers on his wrist.

"Still alive," he says, "though, he's unconscious. Holy shit...where did you learn to punch like that little lady?"

"Hey what the fuck did you do to Gekko?!", the smaller man keeps struggling under Dante, "I'll fucking kill you little bitch!"

The struggling continues...until a familiar tune starts from the ball...

Paula and the little girl come out of the room as Gantz's message starts. She's holding onto her hand, but doesn't really react fast enough the little girl moves away from her goes looking at the ball as well.

"Is that the alien you were talking about?", Kurtis says as he looks over the ball's portrait, "How do I know this isn't gonna be just some idiot in a rubber suit?"

"It looks like Shiitake," the little girl chimes in, and the other two look at her, "The little mushrooms on its head, my mom loves putting that in soups."

Paula looks to you and Carol, who seems to have tired herself struggling your arms, but it changes the moment she looks at the man on the wall and the man below Dante.

"Judging by the state of this room," Paula states, "it looks like you need some help."

"Yeah," Dante says, motioning to him, "You got some handcuffs or something officer?"

"What the fuck?!" the guy below him continues struggling, "there's a cop here?! Man, fuck you and your friend motherfucker!"

At that the ball opens up, and the people close to it almost fall from the sheer force. They start eyeing the different part of the ball, as well as the
equipment inside.

"Yeah," Paula starts, looking at the man, "that sounds about right. Your call Erick, we only got so much time before it starts transporting us."

"Paula, get them restrained,"you explain while motioning to the two men, "They're gonna be a liability if we let them run around."

"Right, though, I only have one set of handcuffs on hand," she replies, looking at the main guy, "what do we do about the other guy?"

The thought hadn't really crossed your mind until she mentioned it, though he's still knocked unconscious.

"We'll think of something when we get to the mission," you say halfheartedly, "at best he won't wake up from that long nap Carol put him under before the mission is over."

She nods with a bit of worry. She heads to her bag and pulls out a set of handcuffs, and motions to Dante to get off the man. As soon as he gets off, the smaller man jumps to his feet and makes for the exit of the door. He only makes it two feet before Carol clotheslines him to the floor unconscious, and places a set of handcuffs on his wrists.

You don't watch more of this before you hear a bit of sobbing coming from Carol.

"W-why...did they...", she looking at the ground, somber again, "I-it's...not fair..."

"Carol," you try to get her attention, and she turns her head slightly to you, though you can't look past her dreads, "I need you to help me get that little girl into the Gantz suit."

"I know this is a bad time, but please, she trusts you and Paula," you continue as Dante starts heading towards the other gathered around the ball, "We can talk more about this later, but you need to help us get some of these people through this alive."

You hear a slight sniff, and Carol wipes part of her face on her forearm. She doesn't look at you as she heads towards the ball and pulls out a small case.

"Yukino," she says, kneeling to the little girl, "remember that talk about hide and seek? Well, you want to win don't you?"

The little girl, Yukino, nods somewhat excitedly at this and takes the suit to the hallway. Carol goes in after her, but looks at you one last time before she goes in.

"I won't forget it," she mentions as she heads to the hallway, "so...make sure you're still here to talk about it, you know..."

After Carol heads to the hallway, you head over to Paula, as she's lifting the two Bloods' bodies to the corner.

"Never actually had to deal with a gang-member yet," Paula says as she props up both of them side by side, "almost feels like cheating at an arrest with this thing on."

"It could have gone much worse honestly," you say, as you help her put them against the wall, "these suits can take a lot of hurt, but I don't know if they can stop bullets..."

"Let's hope it never comes to that," she says, as you both head towards Dante and Gantz, "getting killed by a gun would have been pretty anti-climactic given the aliens."

You both make your way to Gantz and see Dante giving them a small lecture on the suits. Both of them are holding onto their cases almost for dear life, and only nodding in approval to what Dante is saying. It isn't long before the Indian guy raises a hand for a question though.

"So...", he starts, looking at you and then Paula, "how do we put these things on? Like, I get it they sound very useful but how is something that skintight...convenient to put on?"

"It's really not," Paula chimes in, "you have to strip down all your layers, and then put it on in parts, otherwise the suit's form won't work. I tried with underwear on the first hunt we went on, led to a small...wardrobe malfunction."

You take a glance at Paula, knowing full well what that wardrobe malfunction was. Your mind doesn't dwell on it too much as Yukino and Carol move out of the hall. It still amazes you how the Gantz knows all of the different size and measurements of the people that come in, though...to have it on a child seems quite inappropriate by all means.

"You may want to put that on quick...umm, what was your name again?", you say to the Indian guy.

"It's Tanjeet," he replies, getting up with his case, "and honestly, I through taking chances for a while. I'll head in first."

"Oh, and make sure to press the buttons at the top of the neck," Paula lets him know, as he makes for the hall door, "It won't compress to your body unless you press them together."

He only gives her a thumbs up, and proceeds to go change.

"Hey Erick right?", Kurtis starts, and you turn your head to see him eyeing one of the guns, "Got any recommendations? I was assigned as a recon specialist back in Afghanistan, so is there anything here that can give me an edge?"

+1 Trust (Kurtis B. Yates)
"Alright here's the deal," you head towards him, and show him your gun first, "All of these guns kill, but this one has a two functions."

"Aim, pull both triggers once, and it shoots out anchors that ensnares your target. Aim, press both triggers again, and it shoots out that laser Gantz uses to teleport things at the target and sends it away."

"Sends it away?", he looks quizzically at your gun, "Where to? Not here, I'm assuming."

"I don't know honestly," you shrug, but explain it further, "but if the target in the net is too big, it'll just send away the body part it's attached to, so it's good for taking something apart that's really big."

He looks at the gun and then at you. If you had to guess, it almost looks like a gaze of respect or admiration at the probability you took down something truly big with that gun. He'd be right, but you don't aggrandize yourself before Paula chimes in.

"On the other hand," she says, presenting her own X-gun, "If you just want things to explode, you have these pistols."

"Same deal of aim, and shoot, but there's a delay before the shot itself connects. I clocked it around 2 seconds, but it recharges for 5 after the third shot so take note of that."

"I see," he's looking intently at the guns now, "what about yours big guy?"

"Same deal, except much longer range," Dante says as he presents his X-Rifle, "There's a scope here that'll clock in on a target up to a mile or so, the pistols on get about 10 or 20 feet before the shot dissipates."

"You can also press down the triggers to charge up the shot for a bigger explosion, though it'll cool down if you do the full charge."

Tanjeet makes his way back as soon as the explanation is over in his suit.

"So...what do these thing even shoot?", Tanjeet says as he makes his way to the gun rack and picks out one of the pistols, "They don't look like they have a magazine or anything of the sort?"

Dante is about to explain before one of Gantz's lasers begins transporting one of the Bloods to the mission location.

"It's starting," Dante says, and you nod, "Kurtis, I would suggest getting your on as soon as possible."

"You guys still have a lot of explaining to do," Kurtis states as he gets up, heading to the hallway with his case and an X-Rifle, "but, I guess I got your backs for now."

The laser doesn't take long before it goes after the other Blood. It looks like there's not much time to prepare.

+1 WIL (EVERYONE)

As the laser starts to finish the second Blood, you take note of the silence that is currently gripping the room. Carol and Yukino are distracting themselves with idle chatter but the former is looking a glum. Paula and Dante are also looking in their direction, a worried expression seems to be etched on their faces.

"You've lived through this before, right?", Tanjeet asks you as he heads to a wall of the room, "Is it really that horrible as Dante described? How did you do it man?"

"It's...not easy," you start, and then look to Carol and Yukino, "But, it can be done if we work together."

You raise your voice to the room, and look towards everyone, hoping they will hear you, even Kurtis currently in the hall changing.

"Everyone, I know this is a tough and confusing situation," you start, as the others look at you, "but if we work together, we'll get through this alive."

"Stick together, stay smart, watch each other's backs. Out there, it will only be you and the person next to you, so take care of each other."

Carol retains part of her glum expression but nonetheless nods her head. Yukino does so as well with a smile. This in turn let Dante and Paula breathe a sigh of relief, and even Tanjeet looks somewhat hopeful now.

At least he did, before the laser started teleportation him away. Before long, Kurtis makes it back from the hall and the same occurs to him. It's not long before everyone in the room is transported away to a new location.

Your eyes open to a strange sight on an American night.

Columns and what looks like a small pond are in front of you below a cloudy night. You scan your surroundings to find that everyone else is also weirded out by the strange sight. It appears you're standing on a hill given the elevation of the grass and the pond, but you certainly don't recognize this area.

"This is still DC right?", says Carol, as Yukino hold's onto her leg, "Why are there columns here?"

"I know this place," replies Kurtis, looking over the pond, "these are the Capitol Columns, which means we're in the National Arboretum."

Everyone turns to look at him, half astounded that he knew so much.

"What," he speaks up, "I'm a native of the city man, my dad used to take me everywhere back in the day."

Dante looks over his radar, and motions everyone closer.

"Alright, listen up," Dante declares, as he zooms out the scanner, "I'm not detecting anything moving or any heat signatures in the area, so I think we should work in groups of three and look for this thing as soon as possible."

"What if we find that thing," Paula chimes in, "there's no way we can signal you guys if we run into it."

"There is a way, but," Dante hesitates before speaking, "it'll short circuit the radar for the whole hunt. You press all three buttons at the same time, and it sends out ping to all active radars. But be sure you need the backup before you do it."

"Is there a time limit to this hunt?", Tanjeet asks, before looking over Kurtis, who consequently had his own scanner, "and if there is...what happens if we run out of time."

"Yeah, there is," Dante presses one of the buttons on the scanner and the screen turns to a countdown showing 02:00:00, "I've never seen what happens when it drops to zero, but I'll bet anything it's something bad..."

Everyone looks to Dante, and subsequently gulp down in worry. The thought never occurred to you on whether or not the hunt was timed, or on what could happen if it ran out. Now though, it seems you may need to think about this more carefully.

Rolled 14 + 4 (1d20 + 4)

You turn to the others, and then to the two bloods sitting on the grassy hillside.

"I'll head there with these two," you say, and nearly everyone turns aghast at your selection, "Someone needs to keep watch over them, and they have a couple of things to answer as well."

Carol looks at you with expectant eyes, and you nod in reply. Everyone else sets up their designated groups while you head to the gang-members, who appear to still be knocked out.

"I'll check out the Herb Garden," you say as you haul them both on your shoulders, tapping into a bit of the suit's power, "And see if I can't make these two useful in any way."

They nod in reply, though there's a slight sway in Paula's gaze as she sees you run off with them in tow. If you had looked hard enough, you would have seen fear.

<>

The walk to the herb garden doesn't take too long, as the walkways extend to all portions of the Arboretum. You head in, before you feel stirring in your arms. Judging by the groaning and slight struggling, it appears one of them has woken up.

"Hey...where the hell are we?", the taller one asks, as his gaze meets the arboretum, "And put me down damnit, this is making me all woozy..."

"Don't make too much noise," you hiss back at him, looking at your surroundings, "if that thing is out there, it'll give us away."

"Yo what the fuck are you talking about?!" he starts shouting, struggling harder in your arms, "Let me go already!"

These guys are gonna give you away at this point. You go to knock him out again, but not before a strange odor comes your way. It is like a really pungent perfume or a rotting bouquet of flowers. There's a strange feeling in your toes as the smell begins wafting closer to you.

You decide that it's probably best to move away from whatever is making that smell. It's almost too strong to even approach anyways. Yet, as you turn to leave to find the others you actually trip over something wooden on the ground and drop both of your 'partners'. You turn to see where they land, but not before your eyes find a broken piece of the walkway where you tripped. Had that always been there?

"Oww...fuck," you look to the gangmembers, and find that the smaller one is waking up, "What's going on man..? Where in the hell are we?"

You get up and start running towards them. They see you coming and they both run as well.

"Listen to me dammit," you say as you deftly catch up them with your suit's energy, "If you don't wanna fucking die a second time, you better do what I tell you and follow me."

"Eat shit," the smaller one says, while trying to find away around you, "You think we're gonna trust your fucking word now, asshole?! Give me one good reason why I shouldn't just run out of this damn place?!"

"You want to run, be my guest," you say as you intercept their attempts at escaping, "But if you do, a bomb is gonna go off inside your head, killing you."

"What the fuck are you on?!" The taller one says, as he tries to push you out of the way, but you don't budge an inch, "You expect me to believe that?! Just let us go damnit!"

"Fine then," you say as you step out of the way and let him fall from the effort, "but I warned you, and that's not even speaking of what could be out there. Believe you me, whatever's out there is way worse than getting shot."

They turn to look at you, and just seem to run off, one better than the other as he's still got Paula's cuffs on.

You tried to warn them, and they made their choice. If they're smart, maybe one of them will come back after the other's head explodes. Though, from rash they seemed, you honestly doubt it.

You decide to leave the grassy portion of the walkway and decide to link up with one of the other groups near one of the arboretum's attractions.

You decide to head to the Bonsai Garden. Yukino has the suit, but she doesn't exactly was a way of defending herself effectively, so maybe Paula and Carol could use the extra hands. There's also relaying the information about the Herb Garden to them once there as well. You decide to make your way there, keeping your senses tight for any sort of smell or movement.

<>

You head into the Bonsai Garden, and beyond it's ample stone entrance and inviting oriental gates, you find it positively abandoned. There's no sign of Carol, Paula, or Yukino in there besides a few steps along the pebble pathways. You can discern they were here, but...something isn't right about this place.

As you head deeper in you, begin to notice that strange, pungent odor in the air. However, as you approach closer you find that the intensity actually turns somewhat pleasant. Beyond the rows of the bonsai trees and pots you hear a strange noise coming from behind one of the decorative rocks. It sounds like a whimper, yet at the same time it also sounds like whispering.

There's plenty of pebbles on the walkway, but the one you grab looks especially fragile. You imagine this will give it a bit more noise as it breaks apart from the your throw. You wind up your hand, and throw the pebble as close to the open angle of the rock. Like you thought, it shatters making a clicking, almost metallic noise as it hits the rest of the walkway's pebbles.

You hear a yelp coming from behind the rock, and the a barely audible whisper. Something pokes out behind the rock, like a small black, fuzzy worm. You almost move closer to investigate, before a sigh of relief is given behind the rock. Two forms emerge from it, that of Carol and Yukino, both looking a little bit shaken from the encounter.

"Erick," she says as she brushes a few beads of sweat from her brow, "we're so glad to see you, almost gave me a heart attack there..."

"See, there was no monster Carol," Yukino perks up, acting brave, "Now we just have to find Officer Torrez."

"Wait, what happened to Paula?," there is a slight pang of pain in your gut as you say this, "Where is she?"

Paula looks at the ground, and then to you. She's got a worried look on her face.

"We heard a weird noise coming from the other side of the garden, like breathing," she begins to explain, "Paula told us to stay put, said she would check it out before we moved on."

"She told us to not move out of cover," Yukino continues, "That she would call for us if she needed our help...but she never came back."

"Damnit," you say under your breath, and turn to Carol, "do you guys know what direction she was headed?"

"She was headed that way," Carol points South...in the direction of the Herb Garden, "We would have followed right behind, but then that smell started appearing in the air."

This is bad...you could be down one person and the alien is still nowhere to be found...

Maybe going with the gangmembers was a bad idea...

"You two, I need your help to find her," you say, motioning them to the garden's exit, "And if the target is there as well, then I need your help to take it down as well."

"Wait, shouldn't we get the others?", Carol chimes in, looking worried, "We don't know that thing can do, and the others can-"

"There's no time for that now!", you shout, slightly louder than you intended, "the more time we waste arguing, the less chance we have of finding either of them. Now are you in or out and please give me our answer in the next 2 seconds."

Carol and Yukino give each other worried glances, but each of them nod in agreement.

"We'll help you find Officer Torrez," says Yukino as she paces forward, "I'm not as tough or big as either her or Carol, but I will help you find her Erick."

"Yeah," Carol goes forward as well, "We owe her for keeping us safe this far."

"Then let's not waste anymore time," you say, as the storm-clouds begin to move closer, "let's get her back."

<>

You all manage to make it to the herb garden quickly enough. You're quite surprised at how fast Yukino is given her size, but it could also be the suit enhancing her movement. You don't question it too much, as that pungent odor assaults your nostrils.

'They have to be beyond this threshold,' you think, as a few droplet of rain fall on your head, 'I'll find you Paula, and I'll kill that alien bastard just like last time.'

The smell only gets stronger here, unlike the Bonsai Garden, as you head further in. You also start seeing a white lingering mist in the air as you get further in. It's taking every bone in your body to keep going forward, and your progress is substantially hampered by whatever is in the air...

You look behind you to see the girls are having an even harder time moving through this veil of powder. Yukino is barely keeping awake, while Carol is lurching forward, as if her feet will give out beneath her at any moment. You would go to help them, yet you think any extra weight is going to only add to the sluggishness of your pace.

As you press forward, the mist becomes almost unbearable to see through, and you start feeling a burning sensation in your eyes. Your eyelids feel itchy as you finally reach the central courtyard of the herb garden. You can barely see anything in front of you, much less in the current darkness that's barely lit by your suit's own lights.

There's a thunderclap, this time it is much closer, as for a brief moment the mist is lit and you see a shapely figure through the misty powder. It was far away, near a patch of bushes in the center also lit up by the flash of lightning. Rain begins to fall slightly, as your vision begins to return a little. Then you hear the breathing...

OOC: No, no one in your current squad has a radar.

The moment the rain began, the burning feeling in your eyes began to soften slightly. If it's lessening the sensation in your eyes, maybe it's reducing part of the mist. You motion to the girls to get behind cover, and you head towards some of your own.

The comply, and move to the courtyard's entrance, hiding behind part of the gate. You head towards the slatted trees, where maybe you can get a closer look at this thing while waiting out the mist. The rain starts falling a little harder as you settle down near one of the closer canopies.

You hear that odd breathing again, it sound raspy and almost pained in how it retracts. Like someone breathing from their throat, yet choking on something. It's an unsettling noise, yet it begins to get drowned out as the rain begins to pour even harder. Like you predicted, the mist begins to dissipate, along with the heaviest part of the odor lingering in the air.

You can breathe a bit better already without that powder in the air, as well as move a little more as your body no longer feels as sluggish. You hear splashing from the central portion of the courtyard, and get a clearer glance at the thing you saw in the mist.

It's stature is that of an adult woman, yet it appears androgynous without any sexually defining characteristics besides maybe its narrow shoulders. There are hundreds of mushroom and fungus packets growing from its skin, that end at its head. The splashing on its stump like legs, seem to increase as the rain gets harder.

It turns its twitching head in rhythm to its splashing legs, as if it's looking for something. Whatever it is, it seems to be moving erratically away from the central courtyard towards the south...and the Columns.

You hands are steady as your breath is held in advance. You peer out from your cover and take the shot against the alien.

The alien itself actually glances back, as if it sensed something coming towards it but it's too late. As the net sailed through the air, and surrounded the alien's struggling form you move from cover and begin the secondary fire on your Y-Gun.

A shining laser beam cuts through the clouds and begins to tear the alien apart, slab by slab. It struggles with all of its might, and dexterous prowess but it seems to just make the binding even stronger. Yet, in spite of your probable victory, you see something equally surprising and horrifying.

As the laser makes its way down the alien's head and face, you first a squishing noise you can only equate to a paint bucket splattering its contents. Then you see parts of the alien break apart from its body. First its arms, then its legs, and then part of its torso begin to separate from its body.

Without a central mass to hold, and the pieces being small enough to fit between the netting, the anchors distend on themselves as the laser stops cutting up the remains of the alien's upper torso as it falls to the ground in a squishing noise. The sight does not end there, as the pieces begin moving on their own, each growing hundreds of small bristles that quickly propel them them on the ground.

You go to shoot again, yet the pieces are too small and too far for your gun to get a proper hold on. The last of the pieces goes over the wall, a leg, before dissapearing with the rest of its horde towards the pillars.

"Should we follow Erick," Carol asks, coming out of cover, "We can catch up if..."

Carol is cut off by a tug at her leg, and finds that Yukino is staring at something hidden behind a bush. You all turn to the bush and peer behind it, to find the sprawled out body of Paula Torrez. Her eyes are glazed over, and there's drool coming from her mouth. You want to let out a shout of rage, yet Carol beats you to it with a scream of horror.

I'll call it here for now guys, as I am getting very sleepy.

Call me crazy for expecting a more sensible option to your hunt, but I guess we thrive on unpredictability so who am I to talk.

We will reconvene tomorrow at the same time of 12 PM EST, to see if we can't finish up this second hunt.

Check up on my twitter for updates and other goodies I will post there from now on.

For now though, have a good evening.

The hard thing will be to track it since this alien doesn't seem to have heat signature.

Also i doubt Paula is dead maybe just out of the equation we must grab her and go meet with Dante and give him a full report.

Hopefully the fungus isn't something so OP as leaving a finger without being crushed by the gun will allow it to grow again.

Abd also this is a good way to farm points since the limbs seem to grow into another and most likely a bigger alien so our first catch still counts as a live one!

So either those body parts will follow us around or will run and try to evolve my bet is in attacking us in the grass and now those things are even harder to spot thanks to becoming just body limbs.

And the radar doesn't work on then. But maybe that's because the white mist was making then undetectable

<Session Start>

Carol's scream eventually turns to a strained sob as she cradles Paula's body close to herself, while you try to find a pulse on her wrist. Between the rain and the mist still in the air, discerning the motion of fluid in her veins proves difficult. There's a pace of urgency in your fingers as you almost bruise her wrist trying to find a pulse.

You find it, a very faint, almost trickling flow. Paula's breaths are equally shallow, and her chest is almost unmoving when she takes them. She's alive, but does not respond to your voice or to any physical contact you and the others have tried to wake her from her almost vegetative state.

After almost a few moments of trying to resuscitate her, you eventually tell Carol to let go. She reluctantly does, and places her body below the canopy so it doesn't become more wet with the oncoming rain. Through all of this Yukino was desperately looking for the alien's trail near the walls and walkways, and comes back with something white, and sticky on her gloved fingers.

"It leaves this behind wherever it moves," she shows you a few semi-solid lumps on her hand, "I think...it's breaking apart or something. My mom said that some mushrooms dis-solve if you leave them out in the water long enough..."

You're only half listening to her words, between Carol's sobs and your own hazy rage. There's a strange amount of sense in what she says however. Yukino seems like one of those very precocious children in your eyes, yet...there's something very odd about her emotional priorities.

"Going by that logic, it should be melting apart in this rain then," you reply back, "which means...it's going to find shelter from it. But then...why would it go to the columns...?"

"I am not sure...", she says, looking at Paula's body, "We should try and look for it and see what's it's up to."

"No," Carol replies, looking straight at you, "what we need to do is find the others. If it can create that weird mist when it's not hostile, what do you think it's going to when it gets angry?"

You look at Paula's body, as if expecting some sage advice from her, but it doesn't come. If there's a way to take that thing out, you may need to take it before Paula's condition becomes worse.

>Yukino, go to the columns and see what that thing's up to.

"Sorry Yukino," you say, getting up off the ground, "But, we're gonna have to regroup with the others. We just don't know enough about that thing to make a move, and I feel if we follow it, we may be heading to a trap."

Yukino looks a little sad at your rejection of her plan, but nods her head and goes to Paula's side.

"We can't leave her here though," she says, while lifting one of her arms over her shoulder, "what if it comes back?"

"She's got a point," Carol replies, as she moves to help Yukino, "I've got her, we can find shelter for her from the rain at the visitor's center as well."

"Alright then," you nod your head, and move to Yukino's side and prop Paula's arm over your shoulder, "Let's move out then."

<>

You manage to make it out of the Herb Garden before you run into Dante's group. The pathway is so slippery with rain that Carol and yourself almost drop Paula upon finding the others. There's surprised exchange of glances before Dante comes forward.

"Are we glad to see you guys," he moves to help you prop up Paula, "We heard screaming from the herb garden and then a bunch of signatures showed up on the scanner in your direction. What the hell happened?"

"We found it," you mention as you place Paula on your shoulders again, "it's only one but it can separate itself into smaller pieces. Besides that and the weird mist it gives off, we don't know what else it can do."

"We don't know what happened to Paula," Carol explains, "but I think it had something to do with that mist. The moment you're exposed to it, it starts messing you something horrible, but the rain seems to dissipate it."

"That explains why it showed up suddenly," Kurtis adds, looking at his radar, "it's at the columns, but...it's just sitting there for whatever reason."

"We need to take it out," replies Dante, turning his head to you, "Get someone to watch Paula at the visitor center, we don't know where that thing is going and meet us by the columns. We're ending this right now."

"Carol, get Paula and Yukino inside," you state as you give Paula's arm back to Yukino, "Paula's radar should still work, so press all three buttons to signal us in case there's trouble."

"I'll take care of them Erick," Carol says as she shifts Paula's body bridal style, and activates her suit, "And I'll see what I can come up with that piece of the alien Yukino still has."

"We're gonna run experiments?", Yukino asks, "I'm good at those."

"Yeah, I guess we will," Carol replies, and turns back to you guys, "Y'all better come back alive!"

She speeds off, with Paula and Yukino right behind. You don't take the time to see them off, as Dante motions you and the others towards hillside.

<>

The four you position yourselves behind one of the canopies near the Herb Garden, and look over Kurtis's radar.

"It's still just sitting there," Kurtis states as he points to a single red dot on the display, "Like it's waiting for something. You got a plan for this thing?"

"Erick said it can split apart right?", Tanjeet chimes in looking at your gun, "That means capturing and telefragging it out of the picture."

"The pistols are too short range," Dante says, holstering up his rifle, "We're gonna have to snipe it out. Though...if it can really split apart like that, I am sure what the regular guns can do..."

"We could just wait for the rain to do it's job," you say, looking at the dot, "it dissolves in the water, though I am not sure how long that'll tak-"

There's an explosion in a patch of now scorching grass on of hills far from you. A lightning bolt struck the area, and even the heavy rain has trouble putting out the small fire.

"That's ludicrously close," says Tanjeet, a little more jittery than usual, "We need to get to a safer angle if we're gonna do anything right now..."

"Lighting doesn't strike the same place twice," you say, and you point to the grassy knoll overlooking the columns, "So, we should get to the other hill if we're to have a safe vantage point."

"Are you sure that's not just hearsay?", Tanjeet replies, looking worried, "I mean, given probability and all, but we're still in an unprotected area. What if it spots us?"

"I'll draw it's attention," you state, while everyone turns their head at you, "I'll come in close, draw it out to the side, and give you guys a good angle to shoot it from."

"Erick, we can't ask you to do this man," Dante says, looking at the columns, "I've never fought something like this before, so there's no telling what it could do."

You don't give him much of another chance to reply as you begin speeding towards the columns.

"I know what I'm doing!," you say as you ready a jump, "Just don't miss!"

You wonder if they heard you say that as you fly from the crest of the hill to the far bottom near the column's pavement. You quickly move to the far side of the column, where Kurtis's signal originated. As soon as you begin to round the bend, you start smelling that familiar pungent aroma again.

You pass the far column, and find the alien, or what you think is alien. It's body looks more spongy, with several gaps opening like large pores on its abdomen and torso. It's reformed back to it's normal form but there's something very off about it. It doesn't react to you, in it doesn't seem to be moving.

Anything besides trying to get it's attention is deviating from your plan, so you decide to stay put. In the time in waiting for Dante to arrive, you get a glimpse of all of the different portions of this thing.

It's body isn't breaking apart anymore, in fact it seems to be sustaining itself through the rain. In spite of it being motionless, lying on the pillar, you see that it's small tendrils seem to be moving. Rather, they seem to be swaying in some way, like they're trying to brush the water from the bottom of the alien's body.

As you continue inspecting the alien, you find something very odd about it's head. It's still cut in half from the assault of your Y-Gun, but there's something stretching out from the base of its neck. You hadn't noticed before as its white skin mixed in with the columns own white marble. There's a stringy, flackly tentacle coming out of the its body, seemingly wrapping itself around the column.

You notice that it seems to be growing to reach the top. Yet you don't wonder much more as a pebble lands behind you. You look back to see Dante and Kurtis in position on the knoll and aiming down their sights. They're waiting for you to get out of the way and blow this thing apart.

There's no time to waste looking at this thing. You give it one more glance, as you see that it's tendril is reaching to the top of the pillar, and dive out of the way of Dante and Kurtis's line of sight. You register a far off blast from their rifles, and what sounds like gurgling from the alien's pillar.

You go to look at it, when it's body explodes into gooey, white pieces. The alien's body mass splatters on the floor and surrounding pillars. For a moment, you think you see the pieces begin to move on their own, but the rain manages to slow them down and eventually dissolve them.

There's a bit of cheering from the direction of the guys, mostly on Kurtis's part before you see a flash of white in the air. You don't catch the lightning strike the alien's pillar, but you do catch a glimpse of a burning spike of white standing erect on top of the pillar itself. The fire spreads down the tendril, seemingly ignoring the rain, and you then see the last part of the alien. It's neck and jawline dangling from the tendril, and for second, you think you see a grin on its slit mouth.

The tendril suddenly, still on fire, moves erratically and shakes the pillar violently as it clings even harder. The marble cracks, sinks in, and eventually part of the structure starts caving right towards you very quickly.

You activate your suit and deftly move out of the way of the falling pillar. It crashes onto the marble tiles and shatters portions of the floor. The piece were you were just standing on had just caved in from the impact. A half a second slower, and it could have been your leg.

You move to get up until you hear a sound like hissing coming from the shattered remains of the column. The sound quickly moves towards you, along with a horrifying amalgam of white tissue and growing tendrils. The alien's body is now reduced to a head and a tendril like spinal column, but it is moving towards you with the alarming speed of a snake.

You see a strange vice coming from the top of its head along with several more white tentacle that split it's half-skull right down the middle. You hear several shots in the distance, but not before the comes comes right for your throat.

Dat un-nat 20. Writing

>>2330382
It's ultimately your guys' decision to decide on a roll. Whether or not your roll a 20 or 1, it won't count unless it's the main roll.

I realize this causes conflict when rolling because some modifiers are higher than others, so I will try to fix this by including the CR for rolls so you guys aren't as discouraged from rolling for particular options.

>>2330384
I'll include the CR regardless because I don't want to have this sort of discussion about the rolls again. I will still count the first three proper rolls though, so that still stands.

>>2330389
I mean, that's on you for waiting so long to post man. Never know with dice and numbers.
>>
>>2330401
Actualy there is no need to feel down since the dice system of qst is time based so that 20 wouldn't exist even if i rolled earlier.
>>
>>2330401
CR transparency wasn't the issue any of us had with this. It's adding a fix to something unrelated.
>>
>>2330408
OOC: Just to clarify, the roll that got the nat 20 >>2330343 wasn't part of the primary roll because it was based on a separate modifier from the first two >>2330340
>>2330337. I made that rule since the start, to have the modifiers set before you made the roll otherwise the roll wouldn't count.

In other words, the first two rolled to dodge, the third rolled for a separate option, and the fourth rolled for dodge. The primary roll is counted only for the first three of the same option. I give you guys about 10 or 15 min to pick a roll, I refresh, and I check them again to make sure there aren't any ties.
>>
>>2330415
Well whatever just let you know people will pic the highest modifier even if it would be better risk using the lowest one.
>>
Biggest proof is what just happend out of four anons three picked the one with the highest modifier because it would be safer to be done.
>>
>>2330415
Then I still heavily suggest that in a similar scenario in the future, have the players vote first then roll. People will always dislike situations like this otherwise, so the obvious solution is to prevent it from happening again.
That way, everyone rolls the same modifier when rolling time comes up.

>>2330435

Rolled 17 + 3 (1d20 + 3)

The alien moves with frightening speed as it lunges for your throat, its tentacles moving in an erratic form as you actually see small points at the end of them. With an almost equal speed to it, you catch the alien's head in mid-air.

It's struggling to move it's tentacles closer to your head. You manage to hold it off from coming any closer with the suit's added strength, but it is struggling so much and the rain is making it so slick it you're having a difficult time holding it together.
Then you feel a powerful press alongside your ribcage, and stomach as you feel the alien's body begin to wrap around you. It presses harder, and squeezes you but you manage to hold this off from cutting off your oxygen supply and suffocating you.

You don't know how much longer you'll be able to hold out, but you then start hearing explosions coming from the ground you were just standing in. And then shouting, as the others come to try and get this thing off of you. You feel its coils loosening as they approach and then it's head moves away from you. A whip-like slap, places you on the floor and it begins to quickly slither away. You feel an arm on your shoulder, and another helping you up.

"Are you hurt man?", Dante speaks up, looking you over, "Nothing broken or bleeding?"

"I'm fine," you say, panting on Tanjeet's shoulder, "Gotta say, I didn't see that coming..."

"Guys, come closer you're gonna want to see this," Kurtis says as you all follow, "There's something going on in the visitor center, I just spotted a new signature coming from the kitchen there."

You all see a few scattered red dots in the area he's pointing out. The next second the screen fades, and then returns as red, with a blue pulse eminating from the visitor center. You feel a buzzing in your hear as this occurs.

'Carol...'

"I'll take Kurtis and head to the visitor center," you state, and Kurtis nods in agreement, "Take Tanjeet and track that thing down. If it's heading into the treeline, then draw it out into the rain."

"Alright, but come find us once you deal with whatever is out there," Dante replies, moving towards the alien's trail, "come on Tanjeet, and watch your sides, that thing is fast."

They make their way towards the alien's trail, and dissapear from your sight over the hill. You turn away to see Kurtis looking at his radar very worriedly.

"How many people did you leave there Erick?", he asks, and you think before you answer him.

"Three, if it's counting Paula," you reply, and motion him to move with you, "What's it saying?"

"Because only two dots are moving out of the building it seems," he states, moving slightly faster and showing you the radar.

Whoever those two dots are, they are moving out of the visitor center at breakneck speed. Not only that, but the scattered dots you saw initially are beginning to come closer, until they're forming a bigger dot on the radar.

Whatever negative speculations lie in your head, you toss them aside and activate your suit to boost you faster to your destination.

"Ain't got to tell me twice," he says, while moving with his rifle.

They make their way towards the alien's trail, and dissapear from your sight over the hill. You turn away to see Tanjeet looking in the direction of the visitor center, clutching his gun close.

"Was she important to you Erick?", he says, while keeping his gun closer, "That woman, Paula, that was unconcious."

"Yeah...why do you ask?", you say motioning him to start moving, "Is it really the time for this man?"

"I ask because I don't want to see someone else lose another precious person again," he states matter of factly, looking only ahead as you both run to the visitor center, "I may be only a medical student, but I know what true pain is. And it has nothing to do with the physical."

You look to the ground and shake your head of any horrible ideas that statement may have brought in your head. You both speed along to the visitor center.

<>

You both arrive there in record pace from your previous location. The center itself seems to have been broken into, with it's shattered glass windows and bent door frames, or perhaps broken out of. Regardless, both you and Tanjeet head inside making as little noise as possible.

The visitor center is eerily quiet as you make your way to the kitchen area. The carpet and floor leading to it seems to be caked with small shards of ceramic, most likely from plates given that they're white and brittle looking. Tanjeet motions you to one of the side doors, leading on an employee lounge.

You follow him in and see that the lounge is appears to be splattered with that same white goo that the alien degenerates into. It's all around the walls, and the table of the lounge, along with what looks like a coffee dispenser and pitcher shattered on the fluid itself.

"Boiling water...", Tanjeet whispers, moving closer to the almost liquified alien pieces, "It reacts to high temperatures, yet is adverse to water. If it encounters both portions in the same time, its senses may be too overwhelmed to move away..."

Tanjeet picks up part of the coffee pitcher, and pours what remains over a slightly more solid piece. Just as he theorized, the piece at first expands slightly and then bubbles away until it's almost liquid. He flashes you a grin, and moves to the hallway again.

"I wonder which one of them came up with that one?," you whisper in curiosity as you both start moving to the kitchen, "Though...if they were experimenting, wouldn't that mean that..."

You sentence is cut off by the sound of shattering glass, and an all too familiar pungent smell coming from the kitchen's metal doors. What sounds like scurrying feet or nails start coming from the other side of the doors, and the sound of hissing or hoarse breathing join it.There's something in there.

OOC: Do you mean pull the fire alarm? Because there's no more boiling water in that room or a pitcher to put it in.

You motion for Tanjeet to stick behind you and he readies his x-gun to move to your side. You're both standing back to back as you move your hand to open the door and peek inside.

As soon as you do, as wave of mist begins to escape from the door. You immediately close it to prevent yourself from smelling it any further. You take a small breath from the clean outside air and motion Tangeet to hall side.

"There's a sprinkler system installed in every kitchen," you say as you point to the fire alarm, "Pull that, and the sprinklers will go off, but we'll only have so much time with the amount of noise it's going to make."

Tanjeet nods and places himself in position, while you move closer to the door. He's waiting on your signal.

-1 AGG, -1 INT

You give Tanjeet the go-ahead to pull the lever, and you press your body against the door. Instantly, a loud, ringing alarm resounds throughout the whole building and the sound of water sprinklers splashing can be heard on the other side of the door. You head inside with enough force to almost knock the door from its hinges.

The mist is already clearing up, yet you don't seen much of anything as you head inside the kitchen. There's plenty of broken plates, splattered kitchen utensils and what looks like spaghetti sauce dropped on the floor out of a pan.

As you look around the main floor, you see a small patch of white drop from the ceiling near your boots. Yet before you can look up, you feel a sharp, burning sensation in the back of your head. It's like someone plunged several hot knives into the base of your neck.

The pain is excruciating, and you try to pull whatever is moving under your still but your hands find nothing as you reach farther back. It doesn't take long for Tanjeet to sees this, and he runs shouting your name.

You feel an even more painful tug as Tanjeet tries to pull the alien's tendrils from going even deeper into your head. With enough force, he manages to dislodge it, but it only goes after him now. With your vision groggy from the pain, and tears forming in your eyes you can make out the form of the creature attacking Tanjeet.

It is long, and slender, like the previous alien, yet has a two pairs of legs like a rat or rodent that try to mercilessly find a foothold on Tanjeet's suit. It's head's tendrils are still fresh with your blood, and they're coming for Tanjeet's own.

Rolled 19 + 2 (1d20 + 2)

You push the feelings of pain out of your head, literally in this case, as you nearly tackle the alien going after Tanjeet's head. It's much more solid than the previous one you wrestled away from yourself in the columns. Thankfully, it also seems to be weaker, as you easily pull it away from Tanjeet and toss it to the ground with a slam that cracks part of the flooring.

Part of it is splattered on the flooring itself, but it's still very much alive and moving. In spite of the water pooling around it, it manages to almost right itself up before you place a solid stomp on its head. The remainder of the body continues to wriggle under you, but it's not getting out of there anytime soon. Tanjeet heads over to one of the sinks and loads up a glass full of boiling water from the tap.

There's a clinging of glasses below one of the pantries, and another alien leaps at him aiming for his throat. This however, he gives it a solid roundhouse kick in mid air and sends it sprawling into the kitchen counter, next to all the knives.

"Hold it down Tanjeet!," You shout, pointing at the knives and the alien, "restrict it's movement, the water will do the rest!"

Tanjeet rushes to the knives and starts slicing at the alien's limbs. It struggles to dodge the crazy fast knife work, and starts to screech as he slices its limbs off. You don't stare too much longer as you take your foot off the other alien, and pick up its wriggling remains.

There's a disgusting squelching sound as Tanjeet pulps the alien's skull with a tenderizer and picks up the remains alongside you. In spite of the severe trauma done to their bodies, both of these things are still very much alive and almost struggling to leave your hands.

You both don't give them the chance as you dump their bodies into the large metal sink. The boiling water bubbles their flesh and their white tissue begins to liquefy under the heat and water. The alarm hasn't stopped, yet you and Tanjeet give a sigh of relief at the sudden silence in the kitchen.

There's still a blinding pain in the back of your head, and you begin to wonder how deep that wound must be. It is then that you start hearing several footsteps outside of the kitchen, moving fast towards your location.

The doors open up, to reveal Carol, and Yukino, with Carol holding Paula over her shoulder. They dont even bother looking at the kitchen's interior, before Yukino goes to help you up.

"Erick, holy shit, you're hurt!", Carol states, looking at the blood coming out of your head, "We need to get you some treatment, right now!"

Tanjeet moves you to main foyer and one of the available sofas there. Carol places Paula on the one right behind you and goes to into the employee lounge to find that first aid kit.

"You're very lucky you know that?," Tanjeet says as he inspects your wound, "any deeper, and it would have reached right to your spinal cord."

"Thanks...arrgh," you manage, between his prodding, "for that keen visual..."

Yukino goes next to Tanjeet and starts staring at your wound. Tanjeet doesn't pay it much attention, yet you're very amazed this little isn't phased by such a bloody sight.

"You think they might have infected him?", Yukino asks, with Tanjeet stopping his small analysis at the words, "Carol and myself were trying to see how we could kill those shiitake, but...when we added fire it kind of grew."

"It grew out of the pan we put it in, and then scurried under the fridge. Isn't wasn't until later that she told me to get out of the kitchen, that it had infected rats in there."

"We kind of figured the fire, but infecting?", you start, slightly scared for yourself now, "I can understand messing with your mind, but can mushrooms even do that?"

"They actually can," Tanjeet interjects, looking very worried now, "There's a certain type of mushroom, cortycept, that infects insects and other small creatures."

"Takes over their brains, and uses the host body to propagate itself in high elevation. Maybe that's what the big one was doing when it looked for the lightning."

"Don't worry, he shouldn't be infected," Carol
states, running back with a first aid kit, "It has to actually reach your brain to do that, it's what happened to those rats."

You breath a sigh of relief, and a few exclamations of pain as Tanjeet starts dressing your wound. The sprinkler system manages to stop at this point, as well as the droning alarm.

"You guys certainly made short work of them," Carol says, looking back at the kitchen, "Had to bail the moment the we knew there were three there."

"I found out how to get rid of them!," Yukino says, raising her hand, "It was kind of scary when one of them found me in the lounge, so I dumped a big thing of coffee on it."

"I thought it would just scare it away, but it just killed it as it tried to jump at me."

Trial and error seems to be the case with your group, and moreso this strange little girl. Tanjeet finishes dressing your wound, and manages to stop the bleeding. However you start hearing a strange noise in the distance outside of the front doors. Something like a long wailing siren.

I can agree with the infected human bit, but there was never any scar or blood on Paula to indicate an infection.

Yeah, she snorted that shroom puff, but as far as we know that doesnt cause infection.

Also, that radar is unreliable as fuck in the manga. For all we known it overlayed her dot with Carol's on the screen.

You forget the part that the suit doesn't protect. The top of the head and your nose/face. That's why the powder could affect us even the suit and besides there is this.

>Her eyes are glazed over, and there's drool coming from her mouth
>there's drool coming from her mouth

Althought it isn't especific the fact that there is drool mean that the creature could have forced itself through her mouth while she was unconcious.

Or maybe we arrived in time and the alien didn't get to do it. Would explain why he ignored Paula.

I am kind of still a little unsettled by her honestly. She's got to have autism or something that's causing her to not react like a normal child.

She's pretty nice regardless.

>Well since we will be investigated with her dissapearing if she dies.

Oh shit, I didn't even think about this. Yeah, we would need to have a pocket rez just for her, but getting 100 points is not easy in the least with Gantz.

Dante said he'd get Chris back regardless and I don't think the Gantz lets us exchange points. That being said though, we could just get trust the normal way with Chris even if it does take longer.

>I am kind of still a little unsettled by her honestly.

I bet her parents got unsettled to. Remember everyone here died if something and Yukino was the only one that doesn't seem to be phased with a violent death. Possibly poisoned by her mother, or if she has a father, but it's unlikely since she seems to mention her mother more, making me think of a lack of a father figure.

>inb4 her mom killed her because she couldn't keep a man because her daugther scared then so she killed her.

It would be easier if we manage to use the Y-gun. Capture gives way more points. maybe next time we are at the all Mart we can get some slings so we can carry the Gantz rile while using the Y-gun

I know, i know. Let's first survice this hunt and save Paula.

What you think we should train next time? I would suggest tracking and teamwork or teamwork and usage of the suit.

Tracking is more to compasate for the radars bei g so inralliable and because apparently aliens are getting smart and using stuff to jam the radar.
>>

We should definitely go for more team training, but we should also start on firearm training. I get the feeling we still don't know enough about our arsenal, especially if we're primarily focused on the Y-gun.

We've been doing good in tram training so far, we just gotta stop being stupid and actually cooperate with the people we know in the hunts.

<Session Start>

Of the six people currently in the Visitor Center, only one of them manages to ignore the din of the incoming emergency response team coming around the road's curve. You spot at least four vehicles lining up the road in a convoy: two police cars, a firetruck and an ambulance. Carol doesn't waste anytime for them to get closer, as she begins to sling Paula over her shoulder and moves to the building's exterior foyer.

You motion the others to follow suit, yet grimace in pain as you get up. Yukino gives you a tug to your arm to get moving, and you move swiftly out in spite of the pain. Everyone moves out quickly and silently as the emergency response begins to pull up along the curb of the visitor center's parking lot.

OOC: We're back, give me a moment while I set up my Laptop.
>>
<Continued>

Your party finds itself on the other side of the visitor center, near the cobbled trail that leads to the Herb Garden. Everyone's either huddled behind the building's walls or looking over the main fence to see where the Emergency team will head to first.

"There's an unusual amount of cops here for a fire alarm," Tanjeet says, looking past the building's shattered glass doors, "Emergency response teams always have at least an escort, but there's about 5 or 6 of them over there."

The worried analysis is cut short by a croaking or choking noise coming from Carol's, no, Paula's direction. Carol's holding her against a bush, when her mouth start's moving, and an all too familiar white substance begins leaking out of her lips.

"Oh my god," Carol exclaims looking at her and shaking slightly in terror, "That's not, what I think it is, right?"

"Let me look at her," Tanjeet says as he leaves the wall, and props her head, "Dante said that mist did things to your head, but he never mentioned this..."

You quickly run to her side to see, and Tanjeet moves her jaw open to peer inside. You go to look as well, and see that the inside of her mouth and parts of her nose are filling up with that white fluid.

"Her throat is full of that stuff," Tanjeet describes, and begins looking at her nose, "Her nostrils are excreting it as well. I can't be too sure since I don't have a correct way to diagnose it, but I think...she's got a pulmonary infection."

"It's in her lungs?", you shakily add, looking over Paula's mouth, "What the hell are we supposed to do...? We don't have anything to fix this shit here..."

Tanjeet looks down with worried eyes, and Carol's eyes begin tearing up at the realization. Paula may be dead already, or worse a carrier for whatever that alien plans on doing with her body. You've never felt more powerless in your life to continue on, yet you're racing through your head for a way to fix this. If there is a way to fix this.

-1 WIL, -1 AGG

Your mind races through hundreds of different scenarios for what you can do to help Paula's condition.

What if you force fed water? Would that reach her lungs, or would it just kill her even faster with even more substance in there...

What if you submerged her in water? Where would you even find enough water to do that, much less...how would you know it wouldn't just fail like your previous plan...

What can you do?

'I...don't know.'

No...what could you have done?

'I should have gone with them...'

Where did you go wrong in this hunt, a hunt you had prepared so long for?

'I thought it was the right choice...'

It didn't amount to anything in the end, just the loss of more people and a pain so great it may as well be real. You were wrong in opening up to people again, it was all just transient. Like all those other times, except now you know fully well why they'll leave you.

<Continued>
>>
<Continued>

The woman that had come into your life so suddenly, would leave it so quickly as well...and it would be all your fault. All of it, without a shadow of doubt in your own mind. You want to scream, to shout at your own self-hatred, before a tiny slap pulls you briefly from that mindset.

"It hurts because you don't know," Yukino says, as you stare at her with misty eyes, "well, you don't have to know. You only have to do, right?"

"What...?", you ask, somewhat taken aback by her comment, "What are you...?"

"She told me how much you cared," Yukino continues, looking at Paula, "And that you're not one to give up that easily, so don't act like she's already gone. We just gotta find a way to help her, at least a little bit, right?"

Everyone's looking astounded at Yukino's words, yet you're utterly without words. She doesn't wait for you to speak and moves to Paula.

"Doctor," she asks Tanjeet, "if it's in her lungs, can't we clean it out? Like they to pipes?"

"It's not so simple," Tanjeet responds, looking at Yukino, "I would need a lot of water, plus we would need a place to keep us dry so I could work, and we don't even have the right equip-"

Tanjeet suddenly stops, and moves closer to the fence. You all look at him expectantly, and then he turns around with a bright look in his eyes.

"Ok, I think I have a way to do this, but it's gonna be risky," he starts, looking at all of you, "There's an ambulance out there with probably the necessary equipment to do this. I need one of you to sneak over there, and bring me back medical tubing, a re-breather, and a set of shock paddles."

Everyone's trying to focus on Tanjeet's words, with you mildly considering everything he's saying.

"Another person needs to bring Paula to one of the maintenance sheds," Tanjeet continues, pointing to a large concrete building next to the visitor center, "And another person to get us 1 gallon of water, preferrably hot, so we can start on this."

You all look at each other, thinking of how this is going to work out. If it works out...

You don't say anything as you head to Paula's location. You don't even acknowledge that Carol was just right there. She goes to protest on your choice, but you only shoot her a look and she sadly walks away.

"I'll get you set up at the shed," you say as you stand up alongside Tanjeet, "Just help her, please."

"I'll do my best," Tanjeet replies, and then looks at Carol and Yukino, "I'll need you two to get the water and the supplies then."

"No," you reply back, surprising them, "I'll get them myself, just tell me what you need and what it looks like. I can get water from the boiler in the maintenance office on my way out."

"Erick, we know you're worried but we'll need all of us to make this work," Carol says, stepping forward, "She got like this trying to save us, let us help her with that much at least."

You want to relent and tell them that you can handle it on your own, but you know they're right. Though, after the last time, you won't leave Paula's side no matter what.

"Alright, let's go then", you state, before making your way to the shed. The others nod and go to their respective jobs. Carol sets off to the maintenance room, while Yukino goes to the Ambulance to get the supplies.

<>

The shed itself is spacious, and has more than enough room for what Tanjeet calls a 'back alley pumping'. It sounded much less horrifying in your mind what the procedure was called, but it's probably on his own strange spectrum of medical humor.

You clear out most of the shed to the walls, and clean up a table in the center where you place Paula. She's constantly gasping for air, yet only her throat moves without any big noise coming from it. It's like she's heaving from her lungs, yet only bits of the fungus manages to leak out on occasion.

You can't help but look at her pitiful state with a sullen expression. Her once black, lustrous hair is now soaking wet and knotty from all of the rain and pieces of dirt that have stuck to it on her travel. And her brown, tan skin is slowly turning a morbidly familiar white from the lack of incoming oxygen.

"I'll need your help here," Tanjeet moves closer to you, holding what looks like a hose nozzle, "We can't get hot water from this, but we can at least start flushing out the initial portion of that fungus from her mouth and throat."

He holds up the hose, and attaches a metallic nozzle to it. Working at Walmart you're familiar with this model, tt's a pressurized nozzle.

"I need you to keep her mouth open and her nose up," Tanjeet says, moving closer, "If I do this wrong, it could send the water straight to her lungs and she'll drown."

You look at Tanjeet's face, and then to Paula's. You head to her mouth, and start holding her open.

After checking the water's pressure through a few squirts of the hose outside, Tanjeet moves to Paula's open mouth to start the process.

"Keep her steady," he states, as he moves closer to you, "I'll do three shots, then turn her over and have her expel the fungus from her throat."

You nod in reply, and he moves to position. He gives a three count before he starts, and you steady your hands before he begins. He depresses the handle, and water comes out in force. The hose splashes your face with water, spit and the fungus's fluid. Paula herself is twitching slightly as this happens, yet doesn't move all that much. This all takes about two seconds before Tanjeet readies his hand, and shoots again.

The process is much the same, yet you notice Paula's twitching is getting a little faster as he goes on. Tanjeet readies himself for the third time, and he lets lose again. This time however, Paula convulses from what you can only assume is a painful gag reflect of water being forced down her throat.

She almost gets up with the sheer amount of force, but you hold her back well enough. Tanjeet stops the spray, and quickly motions you to flip her over. It takes a deft hand to do this as Paula is still convulsing, yet you persevere with your steady and firm grasp.

The gag reflect finally lets through as you flip her over, and a semi-solid mass of fungus dislodges from Paula's throat and onto the floor of the shed. You think you see it move for a second, before Tanjeet lets loose with the hose again and the sheer pressure blasts if apart, dissolving the rest outside.

Paula's breath is labored, and her eyes are still glazed over as you flip her back to her back, but she's not suffocating anymore. You managed to stabilize her, but for how long.

You and Tanjeet each take a few breaths to steady yourselves as the rain continues to pour outside. In spite of all of the self-imposed guilt, you managed to momentarily save her. You're both taken out of your achievement, when you hear a loud siren off in the distance.

"Damnit, Yukino," you say as you look out of the shed and towards the parking lot, "Please tell me she didn't get caught."

There's a screeching of wheels outside of the parking lot, and then a sound of twisting metal and breaking glass. There's shouting in the visitor's center, and you see smoke coming from one of the fire trucks. A look of complete terror lines both of your faces, as you only imagine what could have happened.

"I got them!", a childlike voice says, and you both turn your heads to it, "Mobile respirator, shock paddles, and tubing. Lots of tubing."

Before you both stands Yukino, slick with water, and holding a lot of medical equipment in her arms, and hands. She doesn't wait for your responses and quickly heads to the shed. You both don't get your jaw off the floor before you spot Carol carrying two plastic buckets filled with water to your location.

"Here's the water," she says, running past you and putting them in the shed, "Sorry about the mess by the way. I saw one of the paramedics spot Yukino in the van, so I may have jury rigged one of the police cars to hit the firetrucks..."

<Carol used: Remote Access>

"But they can't see us," Yukino comments, making all of your heads turn, "One of them heard all the noise I made in the ambulance, but when he didn't see me when he looked inside."

"Wait...what are you say-", you state, before a thought hits you, "You know what, we can discuss this later, right now, we need to help Paula."

Everyone nods, though the thought remains lingering in your head for a bit. Tanjeet motions Carol to the buckets, and starts placing the tubing inside of Paula's throat. It is steady, and very precise work, yet Paula doesn't move an inch as he does it. Tanjeet finishes placing the tubing, and motions to Carol to start the small, circular pump in the middle of the tube. Before they can begin however, you all hear running steps beyond the shed.

You step outside to see, and spot three people, yet you only full acknowledge two of them. Dante and Kurtis are carrying the taller Blood, Gecko, on their shoulders, who seems to have been knocked out. They all look tired, and out of breath as they see you.

"Erick, you've got to get everyone out of here," Dante states, putting Gecko down on the floor of the shed, "That thing is coming right here in the next five minutes if you don't leave, right now."

<Dante used: Stealth Disengage>

"Wait, slow down, what's going on man," you say, as you look at them both, "I thought you guys had that thing."

"We did," Kurtis speaks up, the looking at Gecko, "But then it found his dead friend, and then started growing, really fast. We hit it with everything we had but it just kept coming back for more...even the rain doesn't seem to scare it now..."

"We can't move now," Tanjeet states, looking at them both, "If we do, we could jeopardize your friend's safety even more."

"We're not going anywhere", Carol says, looking right at Dante, "I'll out there myself if I have to, but I am not letting her die."

Their arguing doesn't stop, and neither does the noise of the rain. A decision needs to be made, otherwise, time may just cut your short. You look to everyone, and then back to Paula. You steady your breath and let your voice be heard.

Now here's a plan, that may or may not work. If we can get the hose from one of the fire trucks, find a hydrant close by, I bet the high amount of pressure coming from it my do a good job of at least disabling the creature enough for us or the rain to finish it off.

"We're not moving Dante," you proclaim to everyone, and they all stop arguing to look at you, "I got a plan to deal with this thing once and for all, and get Paula out of here alive."

"What are you thinking here," Dante says, warily looking at you, "Whatever it is, we're gonna have to make it quick."

"That thing seems to grow, and get stronger the more it eats," you say, recalling the rats' resistance to the sprinklers, "But it's still vulnerable to the water, we just need a higher dosage of what it doesn't like. And Carol may have just given us the best method of getting it."

"You're not actually thinking of...", Carol sputters out, while you look with a serious face to the visitor center.

"We're gonna commander the firetruck, and spray that thing with as much water as we can pump out," you say, pointing to the now dissipating column of smoke, "Then, we blast it apart and end this game."

"Question fearless leader," Kurtis asks derisively, "Where are you gonna find a hydrant, or a big enough water source. I certainly didn't see any out on the curb or near the visitor center."

"The boiler room has a massive water tank," Carol mentions to Kurtis, who looks back surprised, "I think they hook it up to the sprinklers for the Arboretum grounds. I can rig the hose to it, but it's gonna take me some time."

"Which is something we don't have," Dante mentions, looking at you, "That thing is going to be on us in a few minutes, it can track us down."

"Which is why we'll keep its attention," you state moving out of the shed, with your Y-gun in tow, "Yukino, stay with Tanjeet, he's gonna need the help."

"Dante get that truck," you command, moving towards the columns where Dante and Kurtis came from, "Kurtis, with me, we'll need to give them as much time as possible. We might even get this thing right here."

"Alright, fine," Dante replies in defeat, making his way towards the Visitor Center, "Don't let us down Erick!"

"I'll get the tank ready, for when Dante gets here," Carol mentions while getting up, "And don't think I haven't forgotten our deal Erick."

They both speed off to their respective positions. Knowing the two, they'll handle it well enough. Kurtis is looking at you with intense eyes, as if he's expecting you to say something.

"You remind of the guys I used to run with in the army, that talked of being brave this and strong that" Kurtis says, his eyes never leaving yours, "yet none of them ever really acted on it when it mattered. Prove me wrong kid."

You nod your head to him and give him a reassuring pat on the back. Tanjeet looks at you both with a degree of determination in himself as well, and motions to Yukino to help him with Paula. You don't look at them start, as you're both bolting out of there with speed in your step.

<>

"We trapped it under some trees in the forest," Kurtis says, as you both make your way to the columns, "Though, with how strong it is, I don't think it'll stay..."

Kurtis stops running and so do you at an impossible sight. Before your eyes, part of the tree line from beyond the hillside is seemingly toppled forward. Pine, and maple are brought down with such force that you can see the splinters and wood chips even from your location.

"How big did you say it got?", you start, as Kurtis just looks onward. You imagine he thinks its a rhetorical question, and you move to his side.

"Kurtis, stay low on the hillside", you say, looking down at the pillars, "provide any cover fire you can while I hold its attention."

"I'll warn you right now," he says, looking down as the treeline falling gets closer, "That thing is big, fast, and has a mean reach with its claws. Are you sure you still want to do this?"

You take what Kurtis says into consideration. Fighting this thing on the open field would be suicide, so maybe drawing it to the pillars may be a good idea.

"Yeah, I'm sure, just don't miss when you have a clear shot in the pillars," You say, as you jump from the hill's crest and down to the pillars, "We'll make it back man, don't worry."

Kurtis nods from his position and goes to a low, prone stance, holding his X-Rifle in a ready position and looking down the scope.

As you steady yourself, and your aim for what's to come, the treeline finally diminishes to a single pine that is toppled over by a muscular, and massive arm.

The alien stands well over seven feet tall by your estimates, and carries two sets of scythe-like claws from its darkened, spongy flesh. Just like Kurtis mentioned, the rain doesn't seem to do anything to it, as what look like a tough outer covering seems to have formed around it's torso.

Even from this long distance, you can make out the body shape of its previous host, the smaller Blood. As it leaves the treeline, it begins looking out to the air, and then squares its beady, white eyes solely on you.

With a gait as fast and heavy as a rhyno, it comes barreling towards your location with masterful force.

At the speed its coming, you'll only get one shot before it reaches you. Thankfully, your aim seems to be true here. Even with the still pulsing pain in your head, you manage to let the shot fly and hit dead center at the alien.

The laser nets hold its form restrained, even as its massive and muscular arms attempt with so much strength to break the netting that's holding it. The anchors deploy on the grassy ground, not three meters from your location.

Without another moment to spare, you depress the triggers again and that familiar laser descends from the heavens, and starts telefraging the alien away. As it struggles, you see that even as it is being teleported, new cells and tissue begin forming where the laser starts cutting it.

'It can even regenerate against the laser, but it's not gonna be enough.'

You're fully expecting it to split itself just its previous form, but what happens next makes your jaw drop and your feet start to run back.

The alien drops to its knees, and using the strength of its full body, rips the anchors from the ground. The soft, grassy dirt giving way to its monstrous strength and pulling out a large patch of dirt with it.

It hatefully tosses the anchors and netting away, and starts moving towards you again. You only see half of this as you retreat back to the pillars. The alien is full aware of you now, and is trying to close the distance fast.

You let lose an incredible surge of speed as you head to the first column placing it between you and the alien's massive form. It closes the distance so quickly, its claws almost graze you as make it past the curve of the first pillar.

You let loose another shot from your Y-Gun at it, moving to its right side. The shot connects, and the alien becomes restrained again, and the anchors lock it down onto the pavement.

You press the buttons again, yet before the laser can come down, a long tendril manages to swat the gun from your hands. You stare to look at the alien's form, and see that it's back still has the previous, snakelike form attached to its neck and spinal cord. It's tendril returns to its back, and the alien begins struggle again.

You don't take the time to look as you head for your gun. It lies scattered on the marble pavement, and you manage to retrieve it as you hear stone cracking from the first pillar. It doesn't take long for the alien to regain its composure, and begins barreling to you from the pillar.

You head to the other side of the columns, and using a similar strategy, you duck and weave behind the pillars. This time however, the alien just slams directly into the pillar, and brings it crashing down onto you.

"Kurtis!," You shout, hoping to god he hears you through the din of your fight, "Its back! Shoot its back!"

You manage to get your message out before the pillar crashing down on top of you. Planting both of your feet on the ground, you activate your suit and prepare yourself for gravity to do the rest.

A massive amount of pressure is put on your arms, and your legs almost shake under you as you barely manage to hold the massive pillar at bay. The ground beneath you almost cracks from the sheer pressure, but your legs are managing to hold. You're trying to build up enough energy to push this thing off of yourself, but you then hear the sound of an explosion, and a loud howl and screeching right in front of you.

You angle the pillar away to stop it from crushing you, but then you're staring straight at the very pissed off face of the alien. You see a few tendrils writhe and fold on its back before they seem to place themselves back to their normal state. There's a pause and you toss the pillar from your shoulders and ready yourself for the onslaught to come.

-1 INT, -4 MOV (TEMP); <BLEEDING OUT> (2 Posts Until WIL SAVE)

You decide to keep up your old strategy of ducking and weaving behind the pillars, as it can't swing its claws between them. Granted, it can just take the pillars down but you can continue your hit and run tactics if you stay wary of the pillars themselves.

You got to run for the next pillar but the alien this time decides to make a running leap between you and the pillar. It lands with a great impression on the concrete floor, and is imposingly blocking your way.

'I can't back away...it's reach is too long.'

There's no other choice. As you depress the buttons on your Y-Gun, you let loose another net. However, the alien just angles it body away from the trajectory of the net, and the shot goes flying. You're too stunned by its dexterous movement that you barely have time to register the massive scything talon that's coming right for your legs.

Your reaction time is gone as suddenly you can't feel the ground anymore. There's a sharp pain on both your legs, before an thumping pain on your back hits you hard. You struggle to get up, to realize in those few seconds that your legs are gone. Lying in a growing pool of blood, you desperately try to hold back screaming.

You only manage to hold it for a few seconds before you let out a cry of anguish, and the alien's other talon is coming right for your head. Or it would have, if an explosion had not blow it completely off. The alien reels back in anger, and searches out the hill where the shot came from. Between the agony of your legs, you manage to spot Kurtis's X-Rifle glowing, and so does the alien.

A few more shots hit home, before the alien decides to start gunning for his direction as well.

'No...you don't...'

You ready what strength you have left, and aim your Y-Gun at its legs.

-2 WIL, <BLEEDING OUT> (WIL SAVE in 1 Post)

You summon what strength and focus you have left on your body and let loose the trigger again at the alien. Given its trajectory, you angle shot to ensnare it as it heads up the hill. However, you notice too late that its back tendril has begin to grow a white, bloodshot eye, and manages to gain awareness of your shot in time.

The alien turns its body midstep, and your shot goes wide. Or so you would have hoped, as instead it hits Kurtis as he tries to run away. The anchors snap in place as Kurtis falls over and he's ensnared to the cobbled pathway.

'Oh...god...no...'

You can't look away as Kurtis's body is pinned in place by the laser net, and he desperately tries to escape. The alien is on him in seconds and Kurtis desperately tries to shoot his x-rifle back to it. He gets two shots at its abdomen, before the alien knocks the gun away and impales him through the stomach.

You hear his screams of pain before he's finally silenced as the alien cuts him in two, leaving his lower body stuck in path, and the other half stuck on its claws.

The whole blood spectacle makes your stomach turn and you can't help but start sobbing at how quickly and horribly it turned out. It's at this point when you start hearing the sound of a loud engine, and moving tires from the far end of the hill. The alien barely has any time to react as it is hit with several tons of steel and rubber.

It rolls down the hill, away from the firetruck, and right next to your body. In spite of how durable it is, the hit managed to stun it temporarily.

Rolled 15 + 4 (1d20 + 4)

'Not again you bastard...'

You let the trigger go, and the net goes flying. You manage to roll away a little as the alien is ensnared face down onto the pavement. It's so close to you that you actually manage to see the rage in its eyes as soon as it wakes up again. It is struggling hard to get up from the concrete and almost manages to right itself up again, but not before a violent torrent of scalding water is poured right on top of its back.

The alien's massive frame is kept down by the equally heavy torrent of water from the fire-hose. It is howling agony as the hot water begins to dissolve part of its outer later. The water doesn't stop as the you hear several shots being fired from the top and sides of the firetruck, and parts of the alien start exploding into quivering splotches of white. There's so much water and light in the air that your vision starts to go hazy, and the motion of the events before you start getting very slow and then very quick the next.

The jump in motion almost makes your stomach churn, but then the lights are blocked by a quickly approaching figure blocking your view. It's a woman, given her shapely form, yet she's looking haggard and almost limping quickly as she comes before you.

The sounds of the fighting begin to get quieter as you feel her arms coming to pick you up and cradle you like a child. You swear you hear the words, "Erick...please...". Yeah that was your name right? You feel a bit of air around your hair as the woman begins taking you away.

You catch a fleeting glimpse of the alien's form, now only a few chunks of its originally muscular body remain and the rest of its mass is quickly dissolving. It's then that you hear that voice again, this time cradling your head in her bosom...

"Erick, please don't leave me..."

Of all of the water's that poured on your head this night, the last two droplets you feel on your cheek are the warmest there ever were. You blink once, trying desperately to wipe away the mist from your eyes and see a little clearer. Before you is the face of Paula, skin still lighter than it should be, dried blood on her nose, and a slight cut on the side of her lip.

The ugliest thing you saw on her face however, were the two tears slowly making their way down her cheek. You weakly try to brush the tears from her face, but can barely muster up the strength to do so. As your hand falls limply, another hand catches it, and it manages to make its way to her cheek. You feel a warmth on your fingertips, and a tearful smile looks right back at you.

"We're safe..."

The movement of your lips and the intent of your words are too much for your body bear however, as you're hanging on by a thread already. You feel part of your mind get hazy, and you feel yourself slipping back a little. Your eyelids grow heavy, as the world begins to spin inside them. Then you hear a familiar whirr in the space above you, empty space, and your entire mind is whisked away, to another place.

>>2335475
>Bolivar when we return to gantz will we recover our physical status?
Yes you will, as your body is restored. That's why the (TEMP) is put next to the stat penalty.

>Dies the only way to gain attributes is with 20's?
It's a faster way of gaining attributes. If context and roll stats are good enough, you can gain stats from your 20s.

>How can we increase our mental status without being needy of 20's?
Social interactions, dialogue options, and differing decision you make can naturally increase them. Be an alpha around women, get better hand eye-coordination at video games, to train past your limits are all ways of increasing these stats respectively as well.

>Is this why you asked us to focus in one part of trainning each day of the week?

Consistency is key in your training regime if you want to make gains. Stats are no different, so make plans for the week ahead on what you want to focus on. Fear the man who has practiced a kick 1000 times and all that.

>>
>>2338224
Dude bears can be badass if they want to be
>>
>>2338274
I don't really see the problem honestly. By law of probability, the rolls themselves are 3 in 60 per user and the system in place copes for any fuck ups that may occur in terms of rolls.

Or are you talking about just the nature of what we get from the rolls? Because, if you are then please let us hear an alternative.
>>
>>2338747
It just doesn't make sense to lose or gain stats like intelligence because of rolls, just surviving is enough of a reward for nat 20 and fucking up bad is enough of a punishment for nat 1.
>>
>>2338747
i think he hasn't readed Gantz that's why he thinks it's unfair.
>>
>>2338761
It actually does if your status work as your health. Intead of the crit failling killing us in one go (like how it happend to Kurtis) it actualy gives us a window to recover ourselfs and due to the damage our body suffered our performance drops because of it.

Also in Gantz they get back up after a hunt so having it be a mental damage is valid. Remember Dante said himself that from time to time the suit starts to mess with your head? That is represented in the negative status. It would represent survives guilt and the mental damage of being contantly in a near death experience. Heck maybe Chris was giving zero fucks about dying because his mental damage was to high.
>>
>>2338765
I am fine with suffering, there is just flaws inherent in giving away or taking stats like candy(+4 in a stat is 1/5 of the dice maximum which is a huge amount). Of course it is far too late to change this as consistency is key, I just hope the QM knows what he is doing which is less likely if this is his first quests.
>>
>>2338761
The QM's pointed out in the paste-bin that INT is not intelligence, but intuition. We can still act without them as normal, it's just our psychological mindset for the actions.

>just surviving is enough of a reward for nat 20 and fucking up bad is enough of a punishment for nat 1

That legitimately sounds like a boring system honestly, especially considering how actions and decision in a setting like Gantz have heavy consequences

>>2338805
Also another thing that's explained in the pastebin. Psych stats are capped at +7, which means the QM is probably planning to have stats be transient throughout the quest. As in, they can go away and be gained easily if we're stupid enough or smart enough to take advantage of context.

>+4 in a stat is 1/5 of the dice maximum which is a huge amount

Given that the stats can be changed so quickly, and how quickly rolls can fuck us over, I think this is actually a given. The system balances itself out, but I think the thread would like to hear your alternative that fits to the setting like this.
>>
Well so far in my opinion to get

Agression (AGRESS) we need to take initiative in our actions.

To acquire (WILL) we need to push pass our limits break all the barriers and have a stronge well will to survive.

To acquire (INT) Intuition besides high rolls or maybe doing good in guess works? Maybe cooking can be something? Or even checking out more about the incidents that happend to the others? Like looking into Kurtis being shoot and trying to figure out more about the others in the group?
>>
>>2339262
I guess forward-thinking or preplanning shit might be good for INTuition.
>>
>>2339246
You forgot your name and trip, Bolivar. Also yeah knowing that stats can change rapidly and dynamically depending on our actions and results actually gives this a lot more depth than otherwise. It discourages minmaxing and encourages gitting gud and being smart about doing shit without getting fucked. I'm fine with it knowing this.
>>
>>2340062
So we can plan a schedule and we wi get INT out of it? could be something.
>>
>>2340070
I was on a different computer, but I will say that the system is based on the hectic and chaotic nature of Gantz.

You as players need to adapt, prepare, and gain as much advantage in the slice of life week before you head to the hunts. Thinks of the Psych stats as ammunition for hunts, easy to gain and simple to lose depending on how careful you are.

Physical stats are the exact opposite, as they are difficult to obtain but similarly difficult to lose. They are more of the weapon itself, as they actually decrease the challenge rating for their respective rolls.

>It discourages minmaxing and encourages gitting gud

This is doubly true as you can die very easily in this quest, and only your planning, teamwork, and mastery over the equipment may see you through it. I didn't give you guys a set health bar or HP for this particular reason.

>>2339262
>>2339262
I won't reveal fully what specific actions enhances skills, but given critical thinking like this shows that you guys are starting to understand the context for particular stat gain.
>>
Oh i just realized a good way to acquire INT! We just need to do new thinks and figure out how to do it using our intuition! Ah so easy how i didn't notice before?
>>

The words have a hard time appearing in your mind, as your sense only seem to respond now. There's no answer to either question, as noise, and tact seem impossible to perceive in this empty expanse. You start to panic slightly, attempt to move more of your body.

You turn your body, to realize that neither your legs nor your whole body for that matter, are still there. Instead, only your vision turns, as the perceptible emptiness before you swirls slightly in your vision. You try to stop the spinning in your vision, yet your eyes do not close nor do your senses stop perceiving.

<$))!@%*(...$*! &@$&*(...>

In trying to stop the spinning in your vision, your senses hone in on another anomaly. It feels like a voice far beyond the expanse, speaking outwardly yet making no noise in doing so. Your spinning stops as you try to find the voice, or whatever made those sounds. It sounded almost indescribable in your head, like a metal string being spun to make human dialect.

Whatever you focus on seems to override your previous action here it seems. With your vision now normalized, you focus your mind and try to see where in the hell that *sound* came from.

Rolled 16 + 2 (1d20 + 2)

Your mind is still swaying slightly from that swirling overload, yet you try to focus on where and what that was. You didn't so much as hear it, but that indescribable perception in your mind. There's no point of reference to make on it, as it seemed to come from everywhere in the expanse yet nowhere at all.

'Where...what...was...that...'

Your thoughts race, or sluggishly try to make it to your mind's forefront. It's not out of pain or fatigue that your thoughts materialize in your mind so slowly. Wherever you may be, it's not anywhere were any preconceived law of physics seems to hold sway.

<It retains consciousness...in spite of its material state...can it perceive this much...?>

It's that strange voice again, yet this time you could understand it clearly, if not awkwardly through its strange mode of dialogue. There's no way you're perceiving sound if your body is no longer there, much less so if this place is as void as you think it is. Is it speaking through the void then? It would explain the voice being everywhere, and in you as well. It's message also seemed strange, like...it is expecting something out of you?

How is it even perceiving your thoughts here, as it seems to know what you're thinking or conceptualizing at least. You suddenly feel a chilling fear, not from the void or expanse you initially panicked over, but from the notion that whatever is speaking out there, may know what is occurring here. Or even worse, may be controlling it. You consider your options before you act, or attempt to at least...

This void is creating a vacuum for your own thoughts, yet maybe there's a way to push through it. You don't know how, but there has to be a way of doing so if that 'thing' out there is managing to do it. If it's using thoughts as a perciebable language then ,in theory, you should be able to do so as well.

You're unsure of a lot of things right now, and probably more afraid than anything else in your life.

Yet, in spite of the nihilistic terror before you, there still exists that small spark of confidence that maybe you'll be able to understand if you reach out far enough. You focus your thoughts towards the outside world.

As you try to form thoughts in your head, you find that the amount of time it takes for them to materialize is becoming shorter. Maybe it has something to do with your state of mind, and that all of your mental focus is centered around creating your immediate thoughts. Then, you feel a wave of unimaginable coldness, then hotness, as your thoughts begin to flow, slowly, out of your mind.

'Gotta...focus...'

It's like a soft echo of your immediate thought focus, expanding and projecting itself around you and the void. It is faint, yet you imagine you didn't have enough intent behind the thoughts to make them that perceptible.

<It is attempting to communicate, interesting...>

Your perception shifts to that voice again, yet this time you can feel its presence much clearer now, and somehow...much closer. You steel yourself, and try to form your thoughts again, this time, with the intent of talking to that voice. Again, you feel the flow beyond your mind and your thoughts swim freely into the void and expand outwardly.

'Hello? ...Vanders...Where...What is...Who....you...have...go back...'

The thoughts come as a shattered echo from when they were in your head. In spite of your focus, you could only manage so much before the conceptualization cut out. You hope that its intent is not lost to whatever is out there.

<Very interesting...yet...unfortunately predictable...>

The voice sounds within the void, sounding somewhat disappointed in its strange monotone, almost robotic tone. It is at this time, when you feel a strange presence around you, and a growing whisk of light begins to surround the void.

<Errors do occur...though...you at least incurred my interest, momentarily...>

The light begins growing closer, and your vision starts to grow hazy. You would attempt to communicate again, but the thoughts are becoming more difficult to create. Before your mind can react to this perception further, it is once again whisked away, somewhere else.

The sounds of shouting, and a dull ache in your chest bring your mind out of the darkness of unconsciousness. The sounds and feelings grow louder and heavier as your mind reboots itself from the strain of that other place. From the feeling alone, you can surmise that your body has returned to form, or maybe you have returned to it as the growing ache begins to feel ever so slightly heavier and more consistent. Roughly 5 seconds after you return, the sounds turn to voices and your senses adjust to make them out.

"...not dead dammit!," you hear a familiar female voice shout, "I...I have to keep trying..."

There's a strain in her voice, like her throat is sore and has probably been sobbing shortly before.

"No one here wants to accept it either," you hear another familiar voice say, this one a man, "But he's been like this for 20 minutes and there's still n-"

The pressure on your chest is quickly relieved, and a bit of wind is thrown between you and the other body next to you.The sound of feet shuffling and a punch being thrown can be heard next to you. There's shouting, and strained sounds of retort coming from other people next to the woman.

"Go to hell!," that female voice shouts again, anger and sadness growing in her voice, "Shut your fucking mouth or I swear to god I wi-"

"Wait a minute," a young man's voice says, this one is very close to you and is holding part of your wrist, "I-I feel something, it's very faint but it's there."

More feet shuffling, as you feel a slight bit of pressure on your chest again and what sounds like crying or laughing right before you.

"Erick?"

Your eyelids feel heavy and worn out, but you manage to open them with some effort. Your vision is blurry, and feels almost dry in contrast to the calm temperature of the room you find yourself in. Soon enough however, your vision becomes clearer, and you make out several figures standing and kneeling before you. Their bodies become clearer as your vision adjusts, and the one directly in front of you starts shaking.

"E-erick...", Paula says, the growing tears in her eyes betraying her elation, "Oh my god...I-I..."

"Paula...? Where...?", you only manage so much before a pain in your throat grows a little larger.

She's stuttering to find her words, and promptly moves closer to wrap you torso with her arms. Her sobbing and slight hiccuping is palpable as she continues trying to find her words on your shoulder. You return the hug right back, holding her body close and moving your hands gently through her hair.

"Are you ok...?", you manage with a slight rasp in your throat. Paula doesn't let go as she nods her head on your shoulder.

You look around you and see the other with equal looks of relief, elation, and tears from Carol's side. Though, at the same time you spot an odd one out. A black man, most likely the Blood from the hunt, is laid out on the corner. You see a bruise on his cheek, similar to the one on Dante's own face. You wonder for a second if Paula did it as well.

"What happened to the alien?," you manage out, a tone of concern growing in your voice as you try to remember the hunt, "What happened to..."

You want to finish that sentence, but you begin to recall what happened to Kurtis. It's not until Dante moves closer and places something in your hands that your suspicions are proven true. Two metallic tokens, joined by a string are placed before you. They carry the name Kurtis Planter Yates etched in the metal, and a string of numbers you're still unfamiliar with.

You recall it almost perfectly now. How you had tried to save him, after the alien had sliced your legs away. The shot sailing through the air, the alien dodging it, and it landing squarely on Kurtis. The image of the alien holding half of Kurtis's bloodied body is brought back to your mind in too vivid detail. You don't even look at Dante's face as you clutch the dog tags in your hand.

"Make sure to get them to his officer or wherever his people go for this," Dante mentions, looking somberly at you, "I'll inform his family about it...he would have wanted that much..."

The mood in the room is somewhat soured by the sad news, yet none of them seem to know about what really had occurred at the columns. You suspected there was a hint of blame in them. It had been your idea, your plan that sent you both against the alien. And it was ultimately your idea that got him killed.

"I'll...do just that," you say, urging Paula to loose her grip a little so you can get up, "What did Gantz say? We did kill it right?"

"It hasn't opened up," Carol says, wiping her eyes, "We've been a little lost since we got brought back."

"We did kill it, since it beamed us back" Paula states, standing next to you, "we then found you and that Blood in the room when we arrived. It had brought you guys back first for whatever reason, but you weren't responding."

"You were dead, by all medical accounts," Tanjeet states, with Paula giving him a slight frown, "Though, I think even a professional could say why you're alive again. It's...an impossible miracle."

'Impossible miracle...', you think as you look down at your body, and the sensation of what had occurred back in that other place. Your inner monologue is interrupted as a strange whirring sound.

Everyone turns around to see a glowing timer on the ball's screen.

"Fuck off Gantz," Carol states, kicking the ball slightly in rage, "The plan didn't go perfectly, it's not Erick's fault Kurtis..."

She doesn't finish the words as Paula goes to her side and places a hand on her shoulder. Carol, looks down and heads back to her place. The pain in your gut grows only larger at her ignorance of what really happened.

"Yes to both actually," Dante replies, turning he head to the screen, "The stronger the alien, the more points you get for killing it. The points themselves can only be used when you get 100 though."

"What happens at 100?", Yukino interjects, still looking at the screen, "Does it give you prize?"

"It let's you choose between 3 options," Dante relays, with Tanjeet looking at him expectantly, "You can bring someone that died in the game back, you can erase your memories and leave the game, or you can cash those points in for better equipment. After a few seconds, the blinking message stops and a new message is typed on the ball's display.

<Big Nig - 5 G@m3 S7r3@k> <0p3nin6 - 57r3@k M3nu>

Everyone looks at Dante, as the screen begins changing again. He's at an equal loss for words, but quickly finds his footing.

"It's never done this before," he explains, looking at the ball's display, "This is...new."

The ball's display flashes a screen holding several options and a light explanation at the top.

<Welcome to the Streak Menu - Spend points to upgrade your gear. Anyone can do it! It's easy you schmucks!>

Everyone moves closer to Gantz, looking intently at the ball's display. You take note of several options littered through its display, each highlighting a different piece of equipment you've seen. Yukino moves closer to it, and touches one of the options.

The display changes to the X-Gun's model, and two options detailing upgrades to the gun itself. One of them adds what looks like a wider barrel to the gun, while another adds more of those strange coil things that open up on the gun itself.

It won't work it's meta knowledge but i know it won't work because once you are inside the zone that gantz puts you on, all cellphones and radio signals are blocked.

>Suit - Booster Spine

You make your choices, adding each volunteer's points to the necessary tally. Thankfully, Gantz was kind enough to let you invest points consecutively.

As you you finish investing the last of the points, you press a large, green button labeled <Finish Purchase> on its display.

The screen goes blank and another message pops up.

<Good Choice! Beta Hero - 4 Points; Sumaruto Rori - 2 Points; Officer Torrez - 3 Points; Lil' Dreads - 4 Points>

There's slight whirr from Gantz, before what looks like a camera, pops out of the top of the ball. You all look at it expectantly, and it flashes a bright light for less than a second before the camera-like object dissapears.

You all look at each other for a few seconds, before you feel a painful sting along your spine. It feels like several needles are entering your skin at the same time, and pocking into your spinal column. The pain is instant however, and it is over as soon as it begins.

The others are in a similar state of pain and confusion, as you notice a new shiny looking vertebra plate on each of their suit's backs.

"Holy shit," Dante says, stretching out his palms, "that a rush if I've ever felt it. So, I guess the upgrades apply to everyone then."

"Guess so," You say, feeling a slight touch of power as you open your palm as well, "But, we'd better get going now, I get the feeling we're overstaying our welcome as is."

"Question though," Carol points out, and looks towards Gecko, "What do we do about him?"

"Carol, I'll leave it to you," you state, with her giving you a knowing stare, "I still owe you that talk, so don't think I'm shirking responsibility from it."

"Hold on a minute," Paula states, looking at Carol, "What do you intend on doing with him Carol?"

"With all due respect Paula," Carol states, looking at Paula with a serious look in her eyes, "that's actually none of your business."

"I think it very much is my business considering the state we found those two in," Paula moves closer to Carol, "I can't say I know how you feel, but what you think of doing to him isn't going to make that go away."

"It's her choice Paula," you say, looking at them both, "Whatever she intends to do, it's ultimately her choice, and you shouldn't have to force her otherwise."

Paula looks at you, with somewhat pleading eyes.

"Erick, I know you're someone who has a good head on his shoulders," she says, and then gets very close to you, "But do not let that girl make a horrible mistake right here. Give me three days, I can have that scumbag put away for the rest of his life."

"You think the police are going to do shit about this?!", Carol says raising her voice, "They didn't give a fuck when I died, much less when those two bastards kept roaming the streets."

"This isn't something you'll just walk away from Carol," Paula replies back sternly, "You'll regret it for the rest of your life, I can assure of you that!"

"My only regret," Carol states with venom in her tone, "will be that I didn't get to his friend before that alien did!"

Tanjeet is leading Yukino to the hall as their argument escalates, probably so she doesn't have to be there when things get really ugly. Dante is just looking at them but doesn't know where to interject. He looks to you for some guiding words.

(NO TRUST LOST)

You take a deep breath, close your eyes and take step forward to the pair. The heaviness of your first step lets them know to give their full attention, and they temporarily stop their arguing.

"Carol, what happened to you was horrible and you have every right to hate this guy and his friend," you say, looking straight at Carol, "They died today, his friend a second time because he was a idiot and didn't want to listen. If he keeps coming to this room, he may inevitably die at the hands of a alien."

Carol is frowning at you, while Paula is looking at you with a face of slight relief. This is before you turn your head to her.

"And Paula even if you arrested him he would return to this room in the next hunt," you explain, not looking away from her eyes, "there's no point in doing that anyways."

"But then what do you suggest?", Paula says, looking at you both, "We just let him go?"

"We have to let him go," you say, looking at Gecko and the back to Carol, "What I can say to you Carol, is that you should think if you want this scumbag's life weighing on you consciousness for the rest of your life. I know you are angry but please think after the rage has passed, if you could still look at yourself in the mirror."

Carol wants to reply back to you, but the look of both anger and sadness is the only thing she can do. You see her hand reach for her X-Gun, Paula also notices, but she just lets it go before she can move it from her holster. Carol looks at the floor, and then back at you before she heads to the hallway without saying a word.

"Dante, help me with this," you say to him, as you go for Gecko's body, "We've got to get him out of here."

<>

Everyone's either in Dante's stashed car or heading for the street after you changed clothes. Tanjeet said his goodbyes as he mounted the cab to his home, though Carol barely said anything. No one really said much of anything after Carol and Paula's fight, and just piled into the car. Even Yukino seems to have silently eased herself back to your scene. It's not as awkward as that initial ride back from the first training area, but it's gets close in terms of silence as you head back to Roosevelt Park.

What should be a 30 minute drive, feels like several hours as the silence permeates the car's interior. After you arrive, Carol decides to go with Dante back home, while Paula and Yukino pile into your car.
Paula says it'll be better to take Yukino home first, as she live close to the park and she can make the excuse that a police officer found her.

+1 Trust (Yukino Palmer)

As you make your way to Bader Condominium, where Yukino said her dad is, you begin to wonder exactly what happened for this little girl to arrive at Gantz. You never expected a child to arrive to the game, but it was something that was disproved tonight. The question nonetheless bangs against your head, and you try to subtly ask it out of concern and somewhat morbid curiosity.

"Yukino, can I ask you something," you state, with Paula looking at you and Yukino soon giving you a nod of agreement, "Do you remember anything before you came to the room?"

Paula is eyeing you carefully, but you shoot her nod to let her know that you mean no harm. She relents in her concern, but nonetheless is intently listening to the conversation.

"I remember two things about the day," Yukino says, while holding a pondering finger to her head, "I had gone out to this BIG mall in Pentagon City with my dad before I came to the room. I lost sight of him in a crowd, so I got on top of one of the benches to see if I could find him.

"The other thing was that some old, hairy man bumped against me on the bench. I lost my balance and fell, from the second floor of the mall."

There's a chill up your spine as she finishes her story. Yet it's not the fact that the story itself sounds like the end of a children's horror book, but the almost nonchalant expression she had when relating it. You have heard of the scientist's tone before, but this little girl would make them sound subjective in comparison.

"That...awful...", you say, as you approach her apartment, "I'm sure your dad must be worried sick about you."

"Daddy is worried about a lot of things these days," she says, somewhat saddened by it, "So I don't try to bother him too much, otherwise he starts crying..."

"You keep mentioning your dad in all of this, but what about your mo-," you try to finish, but Paula gives you a look of sheer scorn as you mention this, "your moments when you aren't with him, don't you have any friends in school or anything?"

"Not really," she states, as the car pulls up to the curb, "They think I'm weird and say things behind my back, but I don't really mind it since I know it'll escalate things if I say anything."

The strength of character in this little girl is something terrifying, yet...somehow very endearing to hear. Whatever her problems may be, or whatever Paula decided to halt your social progress, you at least get the feeling like she's opening up somewhat.

"I can't thank you enough for bringing her back," a graying Caucasian man says, while wiping the tears from his eyes, "Please, if there's anything you need please don't hesitate to ask. Thank you both, so very much..."

"Don't worry about it," Paula says, politely waving his offer, "We're both fine, though you're lucky I found her when I did. She was looking so lost and scared."

"And I can't begin to show my gratitude for it," the man states, gripping Paula's hands in thanks, "Thank you both so much..."

After you said your goodbyes to Yukino's father, you both head to the car and see Yukino is wave you both goodbye as you leave the front entrance. You both wave back, and head back to the car. After situating yourselves in your appropriate seats, and leaving the condo, Paula's gaze falls on you.

"I had never seen a little girl so sad" Paula says, as you head to her home, "She's repressing it Erick, the fact that her mother's gone. She loves to read, to think, to play video games, yet...I know she's doing it either forget or make a wall around that truth."

"She's very strong," you reply back, stopping at a red light, "give her some credit. She's shouldering it all on herself so her dad doesn't worry. If anything, she's really brave for doing that much..."

Paula's face is downcast at this, and you manage to catch a bit of it with your right hand. Her eyes are looking expectantly at yours now. You return the gaze, and find that she's sharing part of Yukino's pain as well. Where that comes from, is something you're not sure you know...

"Let's...head to your place for tonight," Paula says, her eyes looking at you, "I almost lost you today...and all of this grief...is tearing me up. Would you indulge me, just this once Erick?"

1/2 Trust (Paula Torrez)

"Yeah," you say, with equal intent in your voice, "I think, we may both need it."

There's a warm smile upon Paula's face at your response. There's a similar passionate gaze on her eyes that follow yours. It's finally dawned on you just how much Paula really does care for you, and how devastated she was when you very much did die.

You did die, and somehow you're still alive by whatever miracle or error the Gantz had made. It was something short of incredible, and the woman of your life is currently asking you to celebrate that moment, just for a night. How could you say no?

Paula leans in to you for a kiss, and you follow her lips movements. Your kiss doesn't occurr however, as a loud honk from the car behind you interrupts your session. You look forward to see that the light has changed green and you start heading forward down the road. Paula only chuckles slightly at the slight failure of kiss and gives you small knock on your shoulder.

"I guess we'll have to save the intimacy for later tonight," she says, looking back at you, "You do have protection back home, right?"

You want to say yes, but you had actually never planned for a relationship when you arrived at DC. Call it previous life irony or 20/20 hindsight, yet you wish to bang your head against the steering wheel regardless.

"Eh...there's a CVS near my place," you say, making your way down the DC night lights, "We'll stop there for a bit."

A grin lines up Paula's face, and brightens up the night slightly for you. As you make your way back home, you start to think that maybe, dying may have been the best thing to happen to you in a very long time.

Gantz is SUPPOSED to erase all evidence. When Kurono died, his corpse vanished and all video devices in the area were wiped.
>>
>>2343921
Gantz also makes sure to restructure a cover up story if a person dies in the game. Remember that councilman that died in the first hunt in the manga? He appeared on the news the following morning. If anything, it's resetting events in a way that's most convenient to it.

Though...that still doesn't explain how Paula and Erick were on the video. I can buy the ball glitching out and forgetting to erase our severed limbs from the accident site, but, this seems like a strange oversight...
>>
>>2343932
>Paula and Erick were on the video.
The video was taken moments before they die and it doesn’t actually show them dying. It’s probably enough to get pass Gantz radar. It’s an oversight a machine might make but a human would obviously notice.
>>
>>2343938
>It doesn’t actually show them dying

Huh, this would also explain how Yukino's death was counted as a disappearance if it was in a crowded mall.

I recall that ganguro chick in the manga that took the video of Kurono getting ran over and the video file not showing them. Yet everyone at the scene remembers that actually happening.

If this is true, then this quest has a lot more attention to detail than I previously though...
