You smash the merc leader for 5 damage, he's barely staggered by the heavy blow.

Clearly we are doing it wrong, dude has too much armor and too much DPS, we must cripple him before he wipes out everybody but us and I bet the armor rating of his arms are fairly lower than the ones of his body armor

I actually have no idea how combat works. Does crippling apply to individual limbs?
I'll go with this if not.
>>
>>2324075
>I actually have no idea how combat works
I never explained the mechanics in depth other than the general effect of each attack

>Does crippling apply to individual limbs?
Yes

Normally I don't show the odds of called shot so as not to clutter the combat menu:

>Attack (67%)
>Called Shot: Left Leg (37%)
>Called Shot: Right Leg (37%)
>Called Shot: Left Arm (27%)
>Called Shot: Right Arm (27%)
>Called Shot: Groin (27%)
>Called Shot: Head (17%)
>Called Shot: Eyes (-3%)

The accuracy penalty of each called shot is identical to its bonus critical chance
Critical hits have different side effects and damage multipliers with different called shots
>>
>>2324122
Oh alright. I'll switch to called shot on either leg then.
>>
>>2324122
While we are at it, do we have things like combat skills besides magic? This incident with the merc leader showed that if there is even the smallest chance of learning an ability to taunt and draw aggro, we should definetively get it or else once again end up with people bumrushing our mage and archer.
>>
>>2324147
Taunting or other" combat skills" aren't part of the game mechanics but if you do it I might make the enemies react to it. You're always allowed to talk as a free action during combat.

Normally I make enemies prioritize opponents attacking them in melee, captain axe-beard is so durable he is willing to let people hit him as he charges whatever he thinks is a priority target.
The summoner targeted Christof because she knows her acid is good against armour and recognized him as the leader

Ulric slices his leg scoring a critical hit! doing 9 damage and knocking him down. He doesn't get back up

Merc Summoner: "Ooooh I feel like my insides have been tied in a knot"

>You gain 1050 XP for defeating the Illusionist and the Mercenaries

Alina and the Salamites go over to Salaman to make sure he's alright. The two mercs lie severely wounded on the ground. You look over to the mage and he's still tied firmly to the tree, giving you the stink eye. You seem to be out of healing potions.

We have a scroll of teleportation. Can we use that to get him into town?
When we made sure he's alright, kill the two mercs and loot them. Can't kill the illusionist, since he knows where the enclave is.
Also, we still have a flight scroll. Is that a mistake or did we have two back then?

If any of the group knows first aid, it would be the right moment for it. Then at least loot the merc captain, his armor and axe are good stuff. Then take the prisoners back town, Ulric can help Salaman to stand up or princess carry him if he can't walk, Aline carries the loot and you keep the prisoners thighly tied and dragged to pay for their crimes. Make sure the soceror is perfectly immobilized and can't chant

>>2324319

Don't kill anyone yet.
If we don't have a healing potion, we should loot/extort the mercs for them.

The ol' "We'll heal you up to stand trial, where do you keep your healing potions?" trick.
>>
>>2324298
The only reason to keep the mercs alive is of the guard back in town would be bothered by us not bringing them back alive.

It looks to you like Salaman will survive the return trip to Oakheart without the need to use the teleport scroll. However you would prefer if he could receive some proper healing first. You loot the mercs (they may have healing potions)

The Merc Leader has 1040 Talons on his person. Most likely his earnings from selling the captives. His armour is ordinary iron armour, it seems he was just naturally tough. The Axe is a 2-handed Iron axe with a minor lifesteal enchantment. The summoner has iron armour, iron sword, an iron helmet, a personal spellbook and a scroll of Summon Monster V.

>You now have 1348 Talons

Ulric: "Don't worry buddy I've got you. Goddess Ciqrena please heal my friend..."
Ulric tries to use the healing skill, he's completely untrained in its use and needs to roll a 20 or lower to succeed.

You try to find out if the mercs have any healing supplies
>"We'll heal you up to stand trial, where do you keep your healing potions?"
Merc Leader: "Bah, as if I'd help you cretin, if my full party were here you'd be chopped liver by now!"
Merc Summoner: "In the cottage in a wicker basket in the first room, tap the top of it twice before opening or you'll set off the poison rune. Feed me the yellow potion, uh... please"
Merc Leader: "Filthy traitor"

>You find 4 lesser healing potions and 1 antidote potion.

>Give a potion to Salaman
>Give 2 potions to Salaman
>Give 1 potion to each party member (everyone is hurt except Ulric)
>Give the antidote to the Summoner

In that order. I assume that a potion stabilizes and takes salaman out of negative HP, so a second one should get him on foot. Also, the summoner seems to be smart and cooperative, get her to talk about the activities of this merc unit in exchange of giving a good word about her to the guards once they are taken to the town to pay for their crimes.

kek, she probably deserves that, but you were outvoted

You use two potions on Salaman, stabilizing him and bringing him back to conciousness.
Salaman: "Huh where am I?"
Alina: "Salaman you're okay!"
Ulric: "The beard guy hit you with the axe pretty hard"
Salaman: "Oh right, the fight, looks like we won... well you know... thanks for saving me"

You tie up the mercs and give the antidote to the summoner.
"Thank you sir"
It's difficult to tell but you think the illusionist is rolling his eyes. Speaking of which now seems like a good time to interrogate him. You take out his gag.

>"Answer my questions or die"
