Character info pastebin in progress: http://pastebin.com/iB0tb7rz
Dice odds for best of 3: http://pastebin.com/994WTT3g

General rules:

There is a 10 minute voting period after each post. Non-contradictory votes will be combined as best as possible.

Write-ins for all votes are always welcome and encouraged. They may not all make it into the post or be altered to fit in, but I'll do my best to at least try to address the spirit of the write-in.

Very important or contentious votes may be redone in a stricter voting system as circumstances warrant.

Combat mechanics involve three rolls of 1d100, taking the best, and using the base accuracy and crit ranges of the the PTU system, roughly, but the 'turn order' will be more like the anime, where sometimes you can do a few moves in a row or be hit by a combo of moves yourself, all depending on circumstances. Stronger moves tend to take more time and have more cooldown than weaker moves and also may leave you open to an interrupt, so beware of that timing. Speed is more important for closing ground, intercepting, and other things and doesn't necessarily mean going first.

Pokemon and trainers are unique, and may have certain specializations, skills, or other things that the video-game mechanics might not allow. Some examples: That kung fu Bellsprout in the anime, that crystal Onix, or a Roggenrolla that can fly. Herb's perception skills, pokemon knowledge, context clues in general, and other things will hopefully come into play to avoid completely unfair, unforeseeable bullshit, but expect more bullshit from more advanced trainers.

Call me out on a mistake and receive a suggestive picture, mostly likely a butt.

Pokemon:
Gobble (Munchlax)
Mace (Roggenrola)
Belladonna (Roserade)
Dice (Croconaw)
Sorbet (Vulpix)

Location: A small ocean-side clearing on Tabo Island

Recently: You and Laki are double-battled Kat and Robin, Kat gave you some battling advice sorta, you learned about aura massage and bonded a little with Robin.

[Hi!]
>>
You decide it’s crazy to just sleep out in the cold, and you carefully try to slide your way in between Laki and Hana. When it becomes clear that you’re not going to get in without moving them a little, you go ahead and take that risk, lifting arms and gently moving both of them over.

“Mrnegh?” Hana asks. At least, it sounded like a question.

“Sorry.” You whisper, pushing yourself under the covers.

“Mrenshgthsfdsf.” She mumbles, throwing a bit of blanket over you and turning around so you spoon her.

And that’s it. You worried about inconveniencing them, but if anything, Hana appreciated the chance to give you some blanket. You imposed a little and things worked out fine.

Laki grabs you from behind, making you her little spoon, and you fall asleep.

The next morning is a flurry of activity. The adults will be leaving soon. Hana somehow slinked out before you woke up and is talking to, or rather, being talked at by Robin and Kat. You can’t hear it, but based on the body language it sounds

Vance has taken it upon himself to get breakfast going, which you really should be thankful for but actually feel a bit left out on.

“That friggin’ guy.” Laki says, looking at Vance. “He’s a real piece of work. Strutting around like he didn’t pull what he pulled last night.”

“What do you mean?” Your heart explodes into a beating frenzy.

“Last night he talked to me privately, and said he recognized me. Well, I couldn’t really hide it so I asked if he remembered my...performance at the games pole vaulting. He recognizes me and we get to talking. I’m trying to change the subject, but he just can’t take a hint.” She looks back to you. You nod to let her know you’re following along. There’s a strange sense from her that this should be enough, but she continues. “So this guy goes on about how if I wanted, he’d sponsor me and even help me find a coach to go back to the next games. How we shouldn’t ‘give up on our dreams’ and he ‘understood how I felt’ but that ‘the option is always there if I change my mind.” She looks at you again, expecting a reaction. “Can you believe that jerk?”

You’re positive you didn’t miss anything she said, but what she said doesn’t make sense. It sounds like he was a nice guy and didn't do anything wrong. But she’s so mad!

“I should go give him a piece of my mind...” she starts to push herself up.

>Uh, yeah. What a jerk! I guess? You support her and whatever she says

“Uhh...” You try to think of the right way to say this.

“Uh what?” She asks, looking a little suspicious.

Well, you’ve been more assertive lately. All you’re doing here is offering you opinion. There’s nothing wrong with that. You can do it. She’ll respect you more for being honest. “It doesn’t really sound like he did anything wrong. It sounds like he was actually trying to be really supportive.”

“Which is doing something wrong!” Laki grabs your shoulders but stops herself from shaking you. “Ugh! It makes me so frustrated!”

You think you now finally understand how Pokemon can get so confused that they hurt themselves. You’re completely lost. “But...why?”

She gives you a look. A look that tells you that you’re lucky she likes you. But something changes, and the fire in her eyes cool just a bit. “I just....now I don’t have any excuses. The first time I went, all sorts of people helped me here and there to get me the fees and flight in. After the games, I couldn’t look most of those people in the eye again, let alone ask for donations to go a second time. Nobody would expect me to. Dad even let it go. And now... now what do I do? I can’t go back! He knows I messed it up hard. Didn’t he think for a second that I don’t want a sponsor, or a way to get one?” She sighs. “What am I supposed to tell my dad now That I actually do have a way to try again? It’s not like I can lie to him. And...what do I tell myself?”

>Vance didn’t know. You’ll go chat with him

>>
“Is it such a bad idea?”

Her soften glare harden’s right back up as she turns to you.

You flinch. “I mean, to consider it. Not that you have to. But if you do, I’ll back you a hundred percent. And if you don’t,” you start this sentence right away, before she can react, “I’ll still back you a hundred percent. So don’t worry about me, or your dad, or anyone else. Do what you want for your own sake. Go where this takes you.” You put a hand on her chest, over her heart.

“Are...are you asking for sex right now?”

You retracted your hand. “No! I mean, I didn’t mean-”

She smiles. She got you. She takes your hand. “Too easy, Soft Hands. I get what you’re saying. I just hate having the choice. It’s a lot easier when I can just move on without one.”

You squeeze her hand, then cup her face, lifting her chin a little. “You’ll figure it out. I have faith in you.”

She doesn’t say anything and just looks at you. Not knowing how to react, you pat her on the head. She does nothing for a moment and then pushes her head into it a little before getting embarrassed and throwing you had away.

“Jeez Soft Hands! What are you doing?” She blurts out through a smile she can’t overpower.

You leave her to think it over, giving her some precious time alone. Not really sure where you’re going yourself, you find your feet leading you towards Clair.

The very bright sunlight on her pale skin covers any imperfections or wrinkles she might have, like strategic lighting on so many older model profiles. Still, you always felt that the very soft laugh lines she’s starting to get on her face are graceful and more beautiful. That she still looks relatively young, but she’ll age very well.

She turns to you, suddenly looking in a good mood. “Well well. Hana’s squeeze who puts the squeeze on Robin. What can I do for you?”

>Apologize to Robin for me, I’m too embarrassed

So, just a reminder about a few loose ends:
Has Hana told the fosters about how she isn't staying with family?
We should call our mom, especially after Robin was going on about how much radio silence worries her.
We haven't done that seed blessing thing.
We should ask Laki what the name of her and Hana's relationship is.

>Ask her for advice on caring for Gardevoir

Has Gardevoir met Clair's Gardevoir? Also, I think "caring for" might be a bit of a weird phrasing since she's not our pokemon, but we do want to help out our friend with a problem that we don't really understand.

“You’re lucky I don’t make you think you’re a Magikarp for trying anything on my woman.” She folds her arms and gives you a look that reminds you a little of Laki.

Your body offers a polite, nervous laugh at her joke, but your soul screams out in terror. She is just fooling with you, right? After getting fooled with so often you hope you’re developing a sense for it, at least. “Really though, I’m sorry.”

Clair lets her arms drop. She opens her mouth to make a comment, but seeing the sincerity on your face she restrains herself and just says one word. “Accepted.”

“Umm, could you give my apology to Robin, too?”

She shakes her head. “No way, kiddo. It doesn’t mean anything if it’s not from you. Besides, she’s easy. You could disfigure her and she’d apologize to you for bleeding on your clothes.”

That doesn’t make you feel better, but you appreciate the thought. You decide to change the subject. “Can I ask you something?”

“No, I wouldn’t actually destroy your brain.”

“No, no that.” But that’s relieving to know, even if the implication that she -can- do it is still in the air. “I was going to ask if you had any advice for Gardevoir. I saw you two talking earlier, and that you have one.”

She shakes her head again. “‘fraid I can’t help you there, either. That one and mine are nothing alike. Mine’s really a sarcastic jerk, to be honest.” She pauses for a moment, listening. Then she mouths a response to someone else. “Well you are! No. Yes! You're always so difficult! Like right now!”

“Clair?” You wave a hand in front of her face.

“Right.” She turns her attention back to you. “My point is she just needs some friends and there’s nothing Gardevoir specific you can do. You’re a good kid though, she’ll be fine with you and your crew. But between you and me, make sure Hana understands she -just- needs a friend, nothing more.”

You cock your head, not really sure what she means by that.

Clair laughs, but coughs and looks like she might have said too much. She brushes off your questioning look. “Oh-oh yeah. When Hana was little she said she was going to marry my Gardevoir. I think Kat as the video somewhere. It was adorable.” She coughs. “That’s all I was talking about.”

>“No, no that.”
Suppose to be "No, not that", right?

“Well, okay.” That sounds a little embarrassing, but also really cute. “Hey, are you and Vance related, by the way?”

“What gave it away? My huge muscles or his impressive brain?” She smirks. “Yeah. Good eye. I look after the big lug. Well, not so much these days, I pawn a lot of it off on Jeanine. She’s good for something, I guess.”

“Look after? Is he...all there?” You hope this isn’t a sensitive subject. He seemed perfectly fine before, but maybe he has something you didn’t notice. Maybe he has episodes of lucidity or something.

“What? No. I was just being...” A smile creeps onto her face. “Yeah. That’s right.” She goes on to explain that Vance ‘isn’t all there’ and needs constant help.

“I’m sorry.” You say. “It’s really nice he has you and Jeanine. Umm, did he and her marry after he got...that way or?”

She covers her mouth and looks away. The way her body is shaking and she hides her face, you can only assume this is painful for her.

The others wave you and Clair over. It’s time to say goodbye. They’re leaving. If you have anything privately to talk about with any of them for anything more than a quick exchange, now’s the time.

You decide to quickly go over to Jeanine before they finish gathering their stuff. It feels like such a short visit when you want to know so much more about everyone. You hope you get a chance to see them again soon.

“Jeanine!” You come running over. Sorbet follows by your heel, looking a bit overwhelmed at all the other pokemon and looking to you for safety and familiarity. Somehow, Jeanine is still able to pick her up and calm her nerves.

“So cute.” She pets it. “Hey Herb. Sleep well?”

“Oh, yeah. I did.” You hadn’t thought about it. It was a nice, solid sleep. You guess she can tell.

“So what's up?” She hitches up a bag.

“Can I show you something?” You ask her.

“Yeah. Sure.” She puts her bags down, giving you her full attention. “What is it?”

“Well, besides healing, I think I have another ability. I don’t really get it, to be honest, but it’s something I’ve been able to do with my other pokemon so far. And Sorbet, if you’re up for it, I’d like to try unlocking your hidden potential, too.”

Sorbet blinks for a moment, but you must be giving a good vibe, because she seems to trust you here. She stands in front of you, ready to let you do whatever it is you’re going to do.

You put your hand Sorbet, glancing to Jeanine quickly to make sure she’s watching. With a breath, you dive in.

Sorbet is the pokemon you have the least amount of time with, and probably the one you least understand. But despite that, you find yourself easily able to find your way through the inside of her aura and reach down deeply into her potential.

Sorbet is a wild pokemon at heart. You used to think that means a pokemon that might act viciously or unpredictably, but it’s not at all. She’s logical, smart, cautious, and sees life as harsh and rarely granting second chances, so she rarely takes risks.

You unlock her hidden potential...

>She can expel frost from her fur for a time to activate Snow Cloak and possibly freeze things around her with enough time
>Amazing reflexes when it comes to moves that can target more than one pokemon

MYSTERY!

More honestly

>She can expel frost from her fur for a time to activate Snow Cloak and possibly freeze things around her with enough time

This is probably going to be way more fun.
>>
Gobble is the snow cloak like a snowy mist type deal? Could she feasibly use it as a smoke screen?
>>
Inb4 Herb is breaking of bits of his own aura and plugging them into the auras of his pokemon, shocking Jeanine.
>>
You sense something deep in Sorbet. A defense mechanism. A reaction to fear, but something else as well. You can see it all around her, a protective frost. A memory of something when things were simpler, and nothing could harm her.

You see her alone in a scary, dangerous world. But it’s okay. Before anything can get to her, she’s being surrounded by an invincible force. A motherly force. A protective, comforting feeling that makes everything better.

You open your eyes and leap back as Sorbet puffs out a small cloud of freezing mist. Your hands get very cold very fast.

Sorbet looks a little apologetic. At least, you think. Her white fur under the layer of icy mist makes it hard to tell until she stops doing it.

“Herb, that’s amazing!” Jeanine says.

“You understood it?”

She nods. “Yeah. What I don’t understand is why you needed help with massage. This is basically that, but way more advanced. And a little more...intensive.”

“It is?”

She takes your hand and looks you in the eye. “Herb. You have a gift. A very exploitable gift. You need to be careful. With this and the healing I...there are people out there that would do bad things to get you to do what they want. Do you understand?”

“Umm, yeah, I guess.”

She shakes her head. “They won’t understand how it works. I could see it as clear as day though. You were able to do that because of the bond you have with your pokemon. Your healing, I think works sort of the same way. Sort of like mega-evolution. You might be able to heal strangers, but it’s more effective with people you know and understand.”

You weren’t sure if that was a factor, but she seems very confident. “I’ve healed pokemon I don’t really know.”

“I bet. And I bet it’s very tiring. I bet even healing those close to you is tiring. If too many people ask this from you at once, it’s going to drain you. Permanently. I didn’t see it before but I saw it this time. You need to be careful, Herb.” She lets go of your hand and calms down a bit. “Sorry. I just...you’ve got a sweet soul, Herb. Nobody wants to see anything bad happen to you.”

“Oh, well, um, thanks!” You’ve never been told that before.

“Hey.” And idea hits her. “I’ve got some stuff here. I can’t stick around to help you out, but I’d feel better if you had a little edge or something to help you find your way. Take something.” She opens her bag, revealing some items.

“Are you sure?”

“Yup!” She nods. “Plus to be honest, I’m curious to see what you pick.”

>If too many people ask this from you at once, it’s going to drain you. Permanently.

Jeanine don't be vague and ominous about it. You're like the one secular teacher this boy has and you're about to leave for who knows how long. Just give it to him straight.

(Also the comparison to mega evolution makes me hope for cool custom megas for our Pokemon. Or for our girlfriends?)

We still don't know if our healing works on ourself or if our potential unlocking works on people. We should ask her opinion if it's safe to try.

You pick a few things up, looking them over one by one. “What do you mean? About being drained permanently.”

“Ah. Sorry. That’s heavy to lay on you without explaining.” Jeanine says. “What I meant was, you can exert yourself beyond what’s healthy.” She hesitates for a moment.”When you heal, you’re taking some of your energy, your deep, ‘you’ energy, and patching someone else up with it. It’s permanently gone when you do that.”

“IT IS?”

“Shh. Calm down. It’s okay. In this example your aura is like... like a tree. You can trim trees, and it’s even healthy a little bit. It’s okay to lose a few branches or leaves or what have you. Those leaves and those branches are gone forever. But you’ll grow more back, and ideally stronger and better placed than before. Make sense?”

“I think so. How do I know if I’m going too far?”

She shakes her head. “If you haven’t felt it, that means you haven't yet. It’s not a feeling I’m too familiar with, having, you know, avoided it as best I can. But it’s like becoming very cold, inside. I don’t know how else to explain it. Right now I see you just skirting the edge, and I think of you push hard or more frequently you’ll see what I mean. But everyone and what they feel in their aura is a little different.”

“How did you learn so much? Is there a school you went to?”

“Lots.” She says. “Most of them were more trouble than help. It’s more intimate than just a classroom can help with, if you ask me. The best thing you can do is discover your aura for yourself. But if you feel lost or confused, you can call me too, okay? Your aura is something you really do explore on your own, when it comes to the most intimate understanding. But that doesn’t mean you’re all alone, okay?”

“Yeah. Thanks.” You think you understand. “Can I have this one?” You pick up shiny crystal. Just holding it seems to bring your perception of things more into focus.

“Nice pick. Absolutely. It’s yours.”

“Are you sure? I don-”

“Yours.” She insists, putting an end to any more protests you might offer. “Come on. Everyone’s waiting on us.” She hitches up her bag and leads you to the group saying their goodbyes.

“And you’re sure it’s been working okay?” Robin asks Hana. You guess it’s about her arm.

“Yes!” Hana says, holding back her exasperation. “Robin it’s fine. Really.”

Robin calms herself down. “You’re right. I’m sorry. I just-”

Hana’s arm buzzes a little.

Robin stops in her tracks and attaches something to a plug you didn’t even realize exists on Hana’s arm, over Hana’s protests. “I knew you needed an update! No need to be embarrassed.”

(continued)
>>
>>2300645
“No no nonono it’s really fine.” Hana is gently pulling her arm away.

“It’s dangerous.” Robin insists, pressing some buttons on whatever device she’s got hooked up. That makes Hana relent until it’s over. “Now, see if it buzzes again.”

Hana, despondent, is unable to make her hand vibrate at all. She looks completely crushed.

“There, all fixed.” Robin says, relieved. “I know it’s not fun, but you need to take care of your parts. Remember when my eye fell out and scared you half to death?”

Hana distantly nods, not really listening. She’s just staring at her arm.

“S-Sorry to impose on you all the time, but it’s because we care.” Robin insists, starting to look a little worried. “You know that, right?”

Kat snaps Hana out of it with a big hug. Despite everything, that puts a smile on Hana’s face.

“I know, you guys.” Hana says. “I care, too.”

Hana and Robin share a hug. Clair, Jeanine, and Vance all get one too. Laki bows to Kat, but Kat just grabs her in for a hug, too. “Come on. Kids these days are too shy!”

“Everyone’s shy compared to you.” Vance elbows Kat.

“Very good, Vance. That’s a good observation.” Clair says with a heavily patronizing tone, covering her mouth.

Vance gives her a questioning look. “Clair...”

She bursts into laughter. But why is she laughing? She-

Oh. Well. You guess you’ve been had. Even if you think it’s a bit inappropriate to joke about, you let out a stifled giggle yourself. She got you.

Kat grabs you in a big hug too. You swear your wallet feels a little heavier after. It must have shifted in your pocket. You’ll check it out, later. “You take good care of my Hana.” Kat tells you. “And yourselves, too. Pokemon adventures are fun, but don’t let yourself get carried away. Be careful out there.”

You nod. That’s good advice. “Thanks. We will.”

Clair offers you a handshake. She’s got a playful, smug look still.

“You’re my hero.” Abigail confesses to her, breaking the handshake.

Robin is up next. “Oh. Herb.” She averts her eyes, blushing.

“Hey.” you lower your voice. “About before. I’m really sorr-”

“It’s fine!” She squeaks, red as a tomato and dying of embarrassment. Her voice is low to match yours. ”Accidents happen. Heh. No harm n-no foul.”

“I really didn’t mean t-”

“I know! And I didn’t mean-”

You blush, feeling the infectiousness of her nervousness. “Of course. I’d never think that-”

“N-not that you’re not a handsome young man.” Oh jeez no. “But I-”

“Hey!” Clair interrupts, mercifully. “You two just going to shake hands all day?”

“R-right.” Robin breaks it, still blushing and not making eye contact. She awkward pats you on the shoulder. “Y-you have a nice adventure.”

“Y-you too.” You cringe at your own words as they come out of your mouth.

And with that, they begin to walk towards the water.

Gobble gets enough tragedy in just by writing about Hana.

Speaking of whom, did she get up the nerve to talk to them about her aunt and uncle? Because it'll be better for them to hear it from Hana than from her family.

And also, we should console her about her lost special feature. Console her vigorously.

Hey man, if we can plaster over other people’s cuts with pieces of our soul, then it’s only fair we be able to patch ourself up with bits of other people’s souls.

We just... won’t use it as a “drain life” touch attack unless we have a lot more control than we do now.
>>
>>2301383
Nah, no vampire shit. Just let it grow back the way it's suppose to. Think of the aura like a muscle. You have to tear it to make it regrow stronger, but that doesn't mean you should go around injecting stuff into it because you don't like how fast it heals. Also don't use your muscles to the point of over exertion.
>>
>>2301391
But imagine the healing we could do if we used a bit of aura from every person and Pokémon in our party. It doesn’t have to be a lifestyle or anything, just a good technique for emergencies.

Doesn't sound safe. This is why I voted for the energy storing crystal, but no one else wanted one.

Gobble (Munchlax)
Mace (Roggenrola)
Belladonna (Roserade)
Dice (Croconaw)
Sorbet (Vulpix)

Before they make it all the way to the water, you see a helicopter come in from behind the treeline.

“That’s my dad!” Valerie exclaims. She goes running. And so, everyone else follows as well.

He emerges with a briefcase and smile. His magnificent business suit still somehow looks amazing under the beating wind from the blades.

“One moment.” He yells, walking past Kat and Robin to hug Valerie. “Priorities, you understand.”

“Daddy!” Valerie exclaims, hugging him back. Kat and Robin seem especially pleased, rather than insulted. Still, Kat has an air of suspicion about her. They exchange handshakes as the helicopter blades slow and it gets to be a little more reasonable to talk. Jacob, Valerie’s dad, bows too, saying it’s a habit from being in the islands too long.

“Holy crap! That’s your dad?” Abigail is in total shock. “Is everyone here from some rich super family?”

Hana and Valerie both shrink a little.

“We were coming to meet you.” Kat says.

“Nonsense. I was close by. And I couldn’t pass up a chance to see my darling.” He pats Valerie on the back.

Kat exchanges a look with Jeanine and Clair. Clair shrugs. Jeanine gives an approving nod.

“You’re both psychics?” He asks.

“I am. Fruity-pants here is into all that useless aura stuff.” Clair says. “Not that it’s worth anything. You’re taking psychic blocking drugs, aren’t you?”

“Well, I am privy to some very important business secrets.” He says. “Can’t be taking any chances.”

“S-sorry about Clair.” Robin says. “We didn’t bring her too snoop. She’s just-”

“Just?” Clair folds her arms.

“I-I mean, very proudly our wife.” Robin quickly answers.

“An aura reader? Well, that’s not something I expected, but it’s a pleasure to meet you both. Right. Well. Anyway, if you have the time, I’d love to talk now about your potential investment.”

“Vispum seems like a miracle plant.” Robin says. “We’re very excited for its medical applications.”

“Yeah huh. First.” Kat interrupts. “I’ve heard rumours about high level priests taking bribes from your company to smooth things along. How does that make you feel?”

He looks shocked, then upset. “If that’s true, I’m very upset, and disappointed. If you know anything, please tell me. I assure you that it’s my honest intent to put a stop to that corruption.”

Kat exchanges another look with Jeanine, who seems to indicate that he’s being honest.

“Just rumours.” Kat says, looking more at ease. “Sorry if I came off as hostile.”

“It’s perfectly understandable. You can’t be too careful in the business world. If you don’t mind me imposing back at you though, I’ve heard rumours of my own.” He leans in and whispers.

Kat sighs for a moment, smiles and rolls her eyes, and relents. She walks to the ocean front and throws out a pokeball. “Aria, go fetch Adelaide.”

She dives into the water, and a few seconds later, a massive shadow explodes out of the water. You just saw a legendary pokemon fetch another legendary pokemon.

“W-wha-” Abigail is rendered speechless.

Hana looks bored.

Jane, whose been silent and deep in thought all morning, looks suddenly gripped in shock and lightheaded. You think she’s going to faint. You know that if she isn’t going to faint and you try to catch her, she’ll lose her mind and probably throw a punch or something.

“Remarkable.” Jacob says in awe.

Keira just squeaks.

“HOLY SHIT!” You exclaim somehow drawing eyes off of the legendary pokemon. From everyone’s reaction, you just did something more shocking than what’s in front of them. From the looks you’re getting, you think they thought you didn’t know that word or something. Like you’re just that much less innocent in everyone’s eyes.

Jane falls backwards with a muffled thump. Robin rushes to her side.

“Is she going to be okay?”

“Y-Yeah.” Robin confirms. She lightly slaps Jane’s cheeks.

Laki bends down to help and delivers a much sharper one. When she gets looks of disapproval from everyone, she looks defensive. “It worked, didn’t it?”

Jane starts to come to. Robin insists she stay lying down while she recovers, and Jane looks absolutely humiliated but follows her instructions.

“That...that’s insane!” Abigail shouts. “She’s so cute!”

You realize she’s fawning over the small one, Aria. It basks under the attention. The massive Lugia shrugs off a huge rainstorm’s worth of water into the direction of the ocean, lower it’s head to receive a scratch from Kat.

“Thank you.” Jacob says, approaching to scratch it. “I’ve never seen a legendary pokemon up close, let alone two.”

“So you’ve seen one from far away?” Kat asks curiously.

“Just fossils. This... This is a new experience. I’m humbled.”

“We’re going to have to really prepare if we want a rematch, huh?” You say to Laki.

“It’s just unfair.”

Kat pats her on the back. “Legendary pokemon are just pokemon. Trust me. A bond you have with any of yours is just as meaningful.”

Aria floats over to curiously look at Jane. Jane faints again. After things calm down a bit, Kat, Robin, and Jacob talk business and go off outside of earshot. You suspected it won’t take that long, given their posture.

You look to your own pokemon. Dice approaches and sniffs Lugia just like he would a rock or a tree. Mace sits there, observing. Sorbet is surprised, but given no real path to run away, she just sort of keeps herself looking small and inconspicuous. She puffs out a cloud of icy mist when Gobble approaches as a reflexive, fearful reaction.

Belladonna though, looks jealous. She struts around without anyone looking at her except for you, and tries to show off. She glances up at you, expectingly.

“I can take her.” Gardevoir says on her behalf. “I’m fully evolved! Is she? You believe I can do it, right papa?”

Papa?

You look down at your precious Bella.

Papa.

You can’t tell her no after that. Besides, maybe she can! Kat just said that legendaries are just like other pokemon. “Technically, it’s possible. I suppose.” You lift her up onto your shoulders. “I mean, you’re strong Bella, but you need to think about when to back down from a fight, and what your current limits are.”

She leaps down to look you in the eyes and frowns. It melts your heart.

“But if you’re aiming to be that strong, we’ve got a lot of training to do!”

She looks suddenly pumped, punching the air over your head. You almost tip over.

“Your first task is defeating the ticklemon!” You quickly grab her sides and tickle her as hard as you can. She giggles and kicks. Oof. Wow, she’s strong! But she’s completely weak to this attack.

The girls are all making “awww” noises over something. Aria must be acting cute, you suppose. You’re too busy with Bella to pay much attention.

As the little meeting Jacob, Kat, and the others ends, they head back over in your direction.

He waves back to Kat and Robin. “Well, when you decide, you know how to contact me.” He gives Valerie another quick hug. “And you, stay out of trouble. Let me know how your next contest goes.” He pauses. “Say, where are the rest of you kids going next, anyway?”

Man, You miss your parents. And you are looking forward to meeting Laki’s. You should call yours. You wonder how Hana really feels about-

Oh right! Hana told Robin that she was staying with her aunt and uncle here. You make a mental note to talk to her about that in case Robin pays them a visit.

“Well, we want to visit Laki’s parents eventually.” you say. “But first, we should probably finish the tradition from the Grass gym and plant a seed and make a wish.”

“Ah! The grass gym. Yes I’ve been briefed on that one. A fine history and tradition.”

“You’re not, umm, offended by the current leader?” Keira asks.

“He’s entitled to his opinion.” He brushes it off. “But truthfully, I’m fascinated by the history of that gym. The islands are a unique and wonderful place, and I can understand if it makes some people a little overzealous in what they see as defending that. I’m sure, in time, like other institutions, they’ll come to see the benefits of embracing the rest of the world.”

“Uh, yeah.” Keira says, falling into deep thought.

“If you want, I could give you all a lift back there. Or, if you’re looking to fulfil the tradition without going back, I do have some seeds here.”

“You do?” Laki asks.

“Daddy invented a portable berry planter. He’s really big into botany.”

“I’m only an amatuer there.” He says huimbly. “But the portable berry planter is how I got my start. A small, self-contained, tiny biosphere, making it safe for the plants to grow strong.” He sighs nostalgically.

Hana pulls the image of one up on her pokedex. The words ‘a small, self-contained, tiny biosphere, making it safe for the plants to grow strong.’ is plastered on the ad.

“Anyways, yes, I have some seeds here. The tradition is just to plant one and make a wish.”

“That’s right!’ Keira says. “We could plant something here, in this clearing.”

We probably could. All we've done so far today is one potential unlocking, and we've done several back to back before. It'd give us a chance to practice using the focusing crystal.

Plus if it turns the seed into a sprout in just a few seconds that'd look cool as hell.

We can probably trust Hanas family, and everyone else here knows about our stuff. Jacob least of all but his daughters going into the harem with the rest. My only worry is he might get to excited with the whole outside becomes Islander Jesus thing and would try to capitalize on that.

Easy fix is we wait till he leaves or ask Kat or someone to run interference with business talk.
>>
“Well, I don’t know about everyone else, but I’ll plant my seed here.” You say, accidentally brushing Laki as you move to take a closer look at the seeds.

“Wuh-jee-woo.” Laki stutters. She must still be reeling from the legendary pokemon.

“Excellent. Here.” He offers a bunch, describing each one. He sounds a lot more like a real professional than just an amatuer like he said. “We’ve got Lum berry seeds, Sitrus Berry seeds-”

“And don’t forget about these!” Valerie says, pulling others from the helicopter.

“Oh yes. Of course.” he says. “The vispum seeds. Oh Valerie honey, check in the back, there should be some cloning powder.”

“What’s that?” Abigail asks.

“You know, for making clones of plants or trees from cuttings.” Keira says. “Isn’t your town a farming community?”

“Oh.” Abigail acts embarrassed. “That stuff! Yeah. Of course. I know all about that.”

Jacob presents a few more seeds of various berries, and everyone takes one. Even Kat and her group are joining in.

“Reminds me of Sato’s gym.” Kat says, looking nostalgic.

You quickly grab a Lum berry seed and look around for a suitable spot. The berry itself isn’t the biggest deal, but what you plan to do with it is. You kneel down, make a small space to plant it, and get your new crystal out.

Closing your eyes and concentrating, you try to focus extra energy into it. This seed, with your help, is going to grow strong and tall. You hold the crystal and sense, and it’s like when you put on sunglasses during a really bright day. Everything is much clearer, and there’s no blinding glare.

You let the energy flow into the seed, filling it to the brim. You’d assume this was all in your imagination if you weren’t feeling it in such a real way.

You open your real eyes and plant the seed, sprinkling on a little water. For a second, you almost expect it to burst out of the ground, but nothing happens. You guess that’d be just too unrealistic. Still, you sense this plant is going to do well.

“What did you wish for?” Hana asks, startling you. You must have really been out to lunch if Hana snuck up on you.

Oh right. A wish!

“I haven’t wished yet.” You tell her, and close your eyes.

You dig deep down and think of what everyone around you needs. Jane and her...issues are pretty prominent, although you wonder what her and Kat talked about because she seems pretty lost in thought this morning. Laki is still clearly torn about her time at the games, and you wish you could help her find her answers. Hana, despite being such a wonderful person still has such self-esteem problems. And although you’re not as close, you feel there are things going on with Valerie, Abigail, Polu, and others too.

You wish that everyone can just find some inner peace. What that means exactly, you’re not sure, but you just want them all to feel better about themselves and their problems.

It feels like a weight off of your chest. You open your eyes again. You feel like that wish really landed, somehow. Like it, as well as the plant, will spring up one day with a little patience.

Hana smiles, not pressing you about your wish. “I forgot. It doesn’t come true if you say it out loud.” She says, gently snuggling into you for a moment.

“Woah! PDA!” Kat teases.

“Kat!” Hana pushes away from you, embarrassed.

“Awww, I was kidding. It’s my prerogative, isn’t it? It’s me. Come on.” She slaps Clair and Robin on the rear playfully.

“Well, erm, yes. I’m afraid I must be going.” Jacob says. “Can I offer any of you a lift to Akaneki then?”

Your group looks around. Abigail hasn’t really said if she’s going to come or not, and you guess Valerie will be going back to the fashion circuit. Jane will probably be leaving as well. So after this, it’s likely just you, Hana, Laki, Keira, and maybe Abigail. You’ll have to ask her about that very soon.

Hana and Laki look to you. You know by now that they’ll just leave the choice to you. Laki does say you’re the man of the group.

A lift would save a lot of time, but you do hate to impose. Of course, it might be more of an imposition to your friends to turn it down. On the other side, you might get some nice training done on the way over if you take Wailord. Then again, taking Wailord has proven to be at least a little unpredictable.

“Thanks, but we’ll take Wailord. Pokemon adventures shouldn’t be rushed, right?”

“This kid.” Kat says, patting you on the back. “Seriously though, Herb. I couldn’t be happier about you and Hana. And Laki.” She adds in.

“Thanks!” You beam as she messes up your hair. Usually you feel uncomfortable being treated like a little boy, but this time isn’t so bad. Hey, maybe you caught some of that inner peace yourself!

Jacob offers his goodbyes to everyone as well. When it comes to you, he bends down a little while shaking your hand. “You’re making quite a stir, young man. You’d best be careful.”

“W-what do you mean?”

He looks around before leaning in even closer. “Between you and me, we’ve been having an increase in vandalism and security issues. The anti-foreigner sentiment is growing. Some people might not like what you represent.”

“Uh, thanks.” Is all you can manage before he moves on to shaking someone else's hand. There was something both sincere and worrying about the way he said it. It wasn’t a threat, and he seemed genuinely friendly and concerned about your wellbeing, but still. It felt odd.

Valerie comes up to you next. “I’m leaving with daddy. Dad. Father.” She coughs. “He's giving me a ride back to Huka so I can get back into the contest scene. I've been gone from it for awhile." She plays with her hair. "I want to visit again soon though. Let’s make sure we keep in touch. Next time you have been news, call me, okay?” She gently bops you on the head. “We’re friends, right?”

Oh. You guess she might be worried because she heard about you and Hana and Laki from someone else first. You know her and Hana are good friends too, so you didn’t really think about it, but you guess with so much going on, you sort of let your contact with her go by the wayside.

>Of course. You promise

“Of course.” You give her a big hug. “I promise.”

She offers a great smile before running off to her dad.

You guess life gets a little busy when you’re young. You take solace in the idea that as you get older, you’ll definitely have more time for your friends and things won’t slip away as easily.

You watch Jacob and Valerie leave in the helicopter, then Kat, Robin, Vance, Clair, and Jeanine mount the mighty Lugia. With one mighty woosh of it’s wings, it takes off. You never in your life thought you’d see something like that.

“Yeah. Heh. Pretty amazing, right?” Hana says as their huge shadow flies over the group.

“I’ll say.” Abigail watches. “That’s so crazy! You must have had the best childhood ever!”

Laki, standing behind and unseen by Abigail, raises a hand to smack her upside the head. She slowly lowers it when she catches your eye. She instead takes Hana and goes to throw Wailord out onto the water and get ready to leave.

“So.” Abigail says.

“So.” You continue it for her. “Have you thought about coming with us?”

“I have.” She teeters on her toes.

“And?”

“And before I tell you what I decided, I want you to give me a good reason to come along. Everyone else gets to hear some real crap or touching crap or both, so give me some of that stuff too.”

You’re not entirely sure what she means by that. Does she want a heartfelt plea? A sarcastic joke to let her know she’s rubbing off on you? A hug?

>Give her a hug. That should communicate how you feel
>Because if you’re being honest, you don’t want her to go back to her lonely house. This is good for her

“Because.” You begin, not sure how to phrase this. “Because you’re fun.”

She looks unimpressed. “I’m fun?”

“Yeah!” You try to put more emphasis on that before moving on to the next thing you want to say. “You’re fun, and you keep things lively. You’re the... the spice of the group.”

“That’s the most diplomatic way of calling me a bitch I’ve ever heard.” She pats you on the head condescendingly. “But it’s a terrible reason.”

You sigh. “Look. Abigail... I’m worried about you. About your home life.”

She folds her arms. She looks like she’s going to say something, but she doesn’t.

“I don’t want to pry, and I know how this probably sounds, but I don’t think you should go back home if you can help it. I don’t think it’s good for you. I think this... this thing we have here is.” You sweat. Did that come off as preachy? Pitying? Oh man Jane’s always telling you that you act like that and maybe she’s right. You don’t know what’s best for everyone. You can’t just talk like that.

“So what, this is some noble rescue attempt from my knight in shining armor?” She looks at you with challenging eyes.

You have no idea how to respond. What’s appropriate here? Don’t panic. Think of the absolute worst possible thing you can say and say the opposite. “No. It’s an underhanded attempt to add you to my harem.”

She stops talking and stares at you.

“Ho-lee shit.”

“I-I was just joking!” Oh jeez oh man is anyone going to believe you?

“I know! And you’re terrible at it!” She laughs. “You’re so clueless. You’re going to get eaten alive out there. You won’t get lucky like with Hana’s parents. Laki’s dad is going to bend you like a pretzel and boot you into the ocean.” She says. “You’re lucky I can take a joke you know.”

“S-sorry.”

“Ugh! Don’t apologize. If you’re going for mean jokes you’ve got to commit. Own it.”

“Oh. Right. S-”

She gives you a look.

“Right.” You say. “Umm, so does this mean you’re coming with us?”

“Of course. Someone’s got to be a witness to when you get yourself murdered.”

You smile. You don’t know why. By everything that makes sense, you should really like Abigail, but you do. You hope deep down, Laki feels the same way.

Wait, what’s with the hug Laki and Keira are having? And Hana now too! You quickly rush over.

“I promise, I won’t be too long. I’ll be back.” Keira says as you approach.

(continued)
>>
>>2303359
“Back? Where are you going?”

Laki and Hana both aren't sure what to say.

“I...I have a lot of questions.” Keira says. “About everything. I’m going to take some time on my own, visit some places, and clear my head.” She sniffs. “I won’t be long. I promise not to be long.”

Heartbreak washes over you. You know Keira's been having a hard time of it, but you thought she wanted to stick by everyone exactly because of that reason. You saw how lonely she was before. This doesn't make sense! You don't want her to leave.

You don’t know what to say. What can you say? You grab Keira and bring her in for a hard, clinging hug.

“I’ll miss you.” She says.

“Me too.”

You both sniff up your snot at the same time.

There’s really not much else to say. You don’t want her to go. She doesn’t want to go. But you know she needs this. It just hurts, is all.

“Are you going to be okay?” You ask. You don’t know why. It’s a silly question.

“Y-yeah.” She buries her head into your chest. “Sorry. I didn’t mean to get so worked up.” She slowly detaches and moves back to Laki. Then suddenly she buries her face in Laki’s chest too and blows her nose. Laki has a look of complete disgust, but says nothing.

“Before you go. I have something for you.”

You grab your lucky goggles and hand them over. “Here. I don’t really use them much, but they might come in handy.”

“Awww.” She puts them on over her head. There’s something oddly adorable about how huge they seem on her.

“And, this too.” You say, offering your frying pan. The other girls are speechless and shocked. You understand why. You’re pretty shocked yourself. You hand it over and she almost falls forward from the weight. You guess it is pretty heavy, but it’s never really felt that way until you find yourself without it.

“Herb...” She starts tearing up again. There’s another big long hug. Then she gives one to Laki. And Hana. And even Abigail. And Gardevoir. Then all your pokemon. She’s clearly not in a rush to leave. But still, eventually, she does.

“Bye!” You wave and she walks off into the treeline. Looks like she’s heading towards the town. You really hope she finds what she’s looking for.

You all watch the treeline for a minute. A sad air has taken over.

Abigail finally breaks the silence. “So, I guess it’s just Herb and us harem girls, right?”

“W-what?” Hana chokes.

“What?” Laki turns around and grabs Abigail and you by the back of the neck like kittens.

“Yup!” Abigail says. “I done got seduced big time.”

Laki’s eyes dart over her for a moment, and she relaxes. “Ha! You wish. He’d break you in half.”

“Ew! And I don’t wish!” Abigail’s suddenly defensive. “I told you. I’m pure. Marriage or bust!”

Hana mumbles something you can’t quite hear as Laki and Abigail go to war. You climb aboard Wailord during a brief armistice. It’s not long before Laki is pinning down Abigail again.

And just like that your group and the island you’re leaving behind grows that much smaller

Should we go the Soul Nomad route? We could give Herb all the aura powers he's accumulated over this journey but at the start of the adventure, then have him be so evil that even dark fug joins everyone against us at the very end.

Or we could play psuedo-Hornbeam and try to unite the world via aura magic.

Jane wasn't ready, we couldn't pursue her until she figured out that she needed to find her own reason for doing what she does instead of doing everything because of her perceived inadequacy as a true islander. I swear to god if the dramatic climax of this quest is Herb performing his messianic destiny of relationship counseling geckos in the spirit realm I will be very smug for having called it.
>>

...Ryaquaza's are just flying geckos.
I... Why have I never even thought of that before?

That would be a happy ending. We do have to take into account that evil fug punched a whole in reality that the islanders have been feeding with offerings and the souls of every dead person for a very very long time.
>>
>>2305050
I thought it was just a hole in the ground with a wounded god inside. I don't think anybody's eating souls (other than the people Herb has been feeding his own soul to.)

It was ambiguous whether the protector or the splitter was the one who got rekt.
>>
>>2305058
We have The Protectors tooth in our backpack so its skeleton was down in that cave on the first island. The Splitter was strongly implied to be still held at bay by the Protector or something which is why it needs Jane to act as its agent.

The hole in the ocean is thought to be the protector but we already have evidence that the islands religion is very exclusionist and the Death faction wiped out the normal branch probably in relation to the practice of dispersing spirits where as the Death branch funnels all the spirits into the hole.

I'm interested to see what happens if Jacob manages to send a ROV down there.

I didn't like Hana at first and thought the anons were being stupid going for her pretty much due to the reasons you said, but she's really grown on me since then.

Jane route might have been cool.
>>

Still not a fan of Hana. Laki is best.
Jane is shit.

That being said I'd never do anything to sabotage the relationships they have.

Honestly, I want Deoxys to show up. Partly because Rayquaza vs Deoxys is a tradition that's now made it into the games, but also because the quest themes of outsiders integrating vs disrupting finds it's ultimate expression in the ultimate outsider (except perhaps for a UB). Plus I want to see Clair recoil in shock from a completely "wrong", alien mind.

Normally I’m not so keen on legendaries but that’s a good one because of the theming.

I’d add that, just as loanans must have settled as immigrants a long time ago, so must have clefairy, egylem, and starmy come from space a long time ago.
>>
What's Herb's favorite cookie/sexual position?

The Oreo.
>>
>>2306085
UBs ended up not being that alien in the end, which is a bit humanizing. They just look weird.

Deoxys would be a frigging cool mon to battle and catch

After talking to Herb, Deoxis ends up dating both of the Rayquaza.

10/10 ending
>>
>>2306085
Looking back, Rayquaza was definitely the asshole in that movie. Deoxis did nothing wrong.
>>
>>2311146
Rayquaza was basically being Godzilla, this is my earth BITCH
>>
>>2311375
All Deoxis wanted was to find his buddy. He’d probably have just fucked right back off to space, but Fug just had to go and pick a fight.

Turns out dragon sky gods don’t tend to be the subtle patient types. Really makes me appreciate Gobble’s interpretations of the Sinnoh dragons.
>>
>>2311755
I know right? It's pretty interesting, Dialga was a deity in every sense of the word, and fug seems like one too.
>>
>>2311763
>Other dragon gods get domains like time.

>Fug controls wind.

Is Rayquaza the Toon Link of legendary Pokémon? Is that why he’s so angry?
>>
and gobble didn't archive... sigh
>>
I wonder if we can get Herb to learn how to make rare candy.
