Archive: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?searchall=stranded+mech+quest

You are Captain Alex, Proxima Aquarii Federation, 4th Fringe Machine Infantry. When heading to a routine exercise, you and your mech ended up somewhere other than outside the backwater base on a polluted world you called home.

(You are also Crew Boss Levi, a mechanic in charge of repairs to Alex's mech. After finally reuniting with Alex, you see he is, in fact, still an idiot.)

Now you're stuck in a world that's verdant, green, and full of life, where people use 'magic' and gods rule. You were pretty sure it was a sophisticated LARPer's personal planet, but Mirna, from the Apha Centauri Conglomerate has stated otherwise.

You are an ace pilot, the elite of mech operators, and you pilot the Newt, a durable and quick military mech. You can't seem to use up your ammo. You have three crewmates, Hilda, a convicted witch, and Seirye, an elven mechanic who has spent her life without free will, and Fleet Admrial Haller, a legendary military figure of the Federation's past from the Core Worlds.

Through some twist of fate, you are currently a hivemind with a version of yourself that appears normal. You have recently summoned your mechanic, Levi, over to help. They have arrived in another mech. You are now planning to deal with space nazis that have killed everyone in a Core World colony.

"Alright, here is the plan, Haller and I will infiltrate into the camp and take what we can." You start.

"...I have no stealth systems on my mech. Are you suggesting I leave my vehicle and go on foot into a camp of men who have slaughtered my crew and are heavily armed?" Haller asks.

"Alex, please think about this. You aren't Brett, okay? Sneaking in will get us killed. We should think of a different plan." Levi chimes in.

...Come to think of it, Hilda and Seirye have no idea what to do here, and they just had a tendency to go along with you. No wonder Levi and Haller are raising objections to your plan.

"What about looting the town?"

"There is a mech fitting bay, but I think we'd attract attention if we fired it up, Alex." Levi warns.

"We should turn on the defenses, perimeter and anti-air. That way we cut them off from the starship proper, and eliminate reinforcements." Haller suggests.

"Alternatively, we could try sniping any mechs they do have. They do have a few, according to my drone readings, but most are patrolling outside in the water."

You decide Haller has the best plan, so you decide to go through with it. You move slowly and cautiously to the defense control center.

The structure looks ahead, next to one of the many defense towers that cover the perimeter.

"It's odd that these are offline and intact... Almost as if someone deactivated them..." Haller notes, "Was there a traitor involved?"

The drone observes from the air All seems well, though...

"looks like we have something nearby, sit tight, it might have spotted us." Levi warns.

"Incoming." Levi warns. A starfighter shrieks past, a black shape moving towards the battleship in the starport. Some combination of luck saved you from being spotted.

Those defenses need to be activated.

Haller leaves his mech, glacing about and enters the tower. You hear a few clicks and a hum, but...

"It only has auxiliary power. The power plant must be inactive. We should head there now." He states.

"I think it would possibly be better to ambush patrols in the city, use their reactors as a jury-rigged source to power the defenses." Levi offers instead, "that way we can thin the numbers."

Unless you can come up with a better plan, these two have laid out options.

Your decide to continue with Haller's plan. The reactor building is large, occupying a section around the starport. Once more, the drone is used to spot for you.

It's surreal, walking the empty streets. The core world's prefab structures seem so clean and simplistic. Most Federation prefabs are weathered, complicated, and a bit dirty. These must have been part of the Iowa's cargo hold.

As you near, Levi warns you of another possible patrol.

You frantically search the area for mechs, aircraft, anything, Levi keeps telling you different directions. It's then you realize... you are the only mech spinning around.

"AHAHAHAHAHAHA. Oh god, Alex..."

"Levi what the hell?" You ask the mechanic.

"You fell for that so easily. Holy shit double-check your sensors. I knew you were ignoring them... Aaah, that was great. You deserve that, by the way." Levi chuckles, "For every time I went to that pub and you failed to spot me."

You groan as Haller enters the power plant. You hear a snap... and then... all the lights turn on. The whole town lights up immediately.

"Oh fuck." Levi sums up the mood appropriately, "I hope they consider this a glitch."

Haller's mech rises. You spot the perimeter turrets firing outward, "Alright lads and gents, we've cut them off outside... Now for that battleship. I say we open fire on the engines until the reactor bursts. Then it'll take some mechs with it and we pick off the stragglers."

"Hold up, Admiral, we should focus on the mechs outside, as well as any functioning weapons on the hull. After that we can tear it apart and keep parts of what we find." Levi suggests.

Of course, you could think of your own strategy...

Soon you are in the shadow of the huge engines.

Explosions tear through the warship, destroying armor and weaponry alike. many unsuspecting soldiers meet their deaths in the conflagration. As fire tears apart the ship, you note something that is not debris hauling out of the wreckage.

It's a mech, though it seems to be modelled after a dragon, towering over your machines and bristling with weaponry... You blink a moment at the readings coming from it.

"That thing's got core world tech!" Levi warns.

Thought the wings appear to be damaged, the blast has done little to weaken the actual body. The head of the mech sweeps the area, looking for targets.

Levi sends you a set of scan data for the machine. It doesn't improve things.

The mech has a side-mounted Onager, presumably for downing warships in low orbit or instantly killing opposing mechs. Dual. railguns are on the head, and a matter destabilizer tops off another instant mech-killer. To make matters worse, the claws are hard-light blades, allowing it to slice through armor as if it were warm butter.

This thing is all kinds of bad news, but it did take a blow from the explosion.

Your team's attacks slam home. The damaged wings taking a hole through one engine. Your own weapon smacks into a rear leg.

Haller's attack engulfs the head. The machine shudders... then... You see metal slide down, covering the hole in the back leg as it shifts in place, the damaged front of the mech devoid of light. The machine begins to angle itself towards you, now aware of your direction, but vision-impaired. It seems, though, the machine has a built-in backup temporary repair, akin to putting duct tape on the damage,

You manage to avoid the shot, though just barely. There's a reason matter destabilizers are terrifying. The ability to sever molecular bonds in a single shot is devastating. The beam carved all the way through prefab structures and the defensive wall... structures made to survive an orbital drop and enemy fire. To see them carved out like this is chilling.

Nonetheless, now is the time to counterattack.

It snaps towards the smallest mech, Levi's mech. The Matter Destabilizer is going to fire once more.

The Hummingbird manages to shift forms and move out of the way, but the mech is clipped by the attack. Engines and missiles now missing a good chunk, as well as wings, the hummingbird plummets into the colony buildings, crashing to the sandy ground.

You move towards the perimeter as Seirye goes to the aid of Levi and Haller moves in to secure the tech.

The guns fire away into the fog. you spot a colossus collapse under focused fire. Nebel mechs lie in ruin on the beaches.

You get a comm ping from Haller, "Thank you for helping me retake this place. I'm afraid, though, I can no longer travel with you. I intend to make a memorial to my crew here... You may use the colony as your own. I'll stay here and keep it safe... Perhaps even rebuild if you manage to recruit some aid for me."

>Fleet admiral Haller has left the party
>You have taken Port Haller. A colony with many of the amenities of modern living, including shelter, purified water, and comfortable beds. Port Haller contains dedicated mech bays that can allow you to refit, upgrade, or add to your mechs. If you recruit people, you may send them to this location, bringing more functions of the colony online.

>Current colony population: 1 (5 needed before next function is restored)

We should ally with the Worms! Feed the survivors worm meat, and in turn we can teach them to be more civilized. I mean, they'll still be flesh eating monsters, but maybe we can get them raising livestock and such instead of eating people.

Or not. Civilization just means you're polite about your violence so that you have the option of resting between conflicts after all.

>>2265755
Check in and see what Shiloth plans for the area, and make a deal with her.

I think we should try to recruit the non-stoner Elves to come here. A bunch of advanced tech for them to investigate, after all, and the Worms themselves are probably quite interesting.

We will make a non-shit Elf nation, so that Best Girl Acarit won't be so sad any more.

We can maybe move Mirna's mech here and turn it into a shrine as well.
>>
>>2265755
Oh! And once we get the Elves here, we can have them trade with the Dwarves in exchange for supplies. Maybe we can even snipe the Dwarves Mech specialists to work on ours, but we should try to keep that tech locked down.

>>2266443
I don't know if we can trust the Dwarves to keep our technology away from other hands... The non-stoner elves seem to be quite the upset type about their brethren, but the Dwarves in other hand seem to have a strong culture who puts their own over outsiders.
>>
>>2266435
I am all for the elf idea
>>
>>2266634
>but the Dwarves in other hand seem to have a strong culture who puts their own over outsiders.

That's fine, that means that the misfits and social outcasts will be more alienated than in a less community based society. So we just have to scoop up their weirdos and assholes and make them comfortable at the colony.

I'm actually more concerned about the Elves, as while they're values and lifestyles make them a minority in their society, it doesn't exclude them from participating or holding status or being part of the community, you know?

I would be much more concerned about the Elves trying to usurp us, or selling our secrets out to Mera or the Orcs or the Dwarve, because they have to "Take care" of the stoner elves.

The difference is that the Scholar Elves don't respect the other Elves, but they do still have personal connections with them and are part of the community.

Whereas an ostracized Dwarf seems to me like they would respect the Dwarven nation and its values etc., but not have many actual personal ties to it or participate in the community. Note that a strong culture doesn't tend to respect people who don't integrate well though, so it's not like that would go both ways.

So yeah. If anything, the Dwarf I feel would be more likely to stand by their contract to protect their reputation, than to sell us out to the advantage of their nation. We just have to make sure we pay them well, and even if we don't personally get along once we get them used to getting respect from us, oh boy that's a drug. Either by letting them prove that although they have different ideas than the other dwarves, they're still just as much of one as any other and can respect themselves. Or by letting them no longer have to judge themselves by Dwarven standards and finding self-respect by proving that they didn't need them anyways.

Whereas Elves are always going to be Elves first, pointy eared cunts that live a long time and are "special". They're going to use us as much as we're going to be using them. You don't think they couldn't have up and left at any time and made their own city?
>>
>>2266634
>>2266731

To clarify, the reason I think we can get the Elves on board is because we're both in good with Mirna AND Acarit. So that's got them coming and going. If we say we're putting up a shrine to Mirna using her mech, we can claim that we need their help to protect it. Meanwhile, they can research the information we have on the Federation and Mechs and such, but also our knowledge of physics, chemistry, energy manipulation, but even more importantly math and language - specifically programming language. I would imagine that would be quite attractive to them in the context of both theoretical analysis and practical application of magic.

Of course, we'll want to remind them that all of it was done by humans over centuries, we aren't sure if they'll be able to pick it up without the background education we have. Give them some motivation to get right into it.

Ideally, this will result in them being too busy learning and experimenting and arguing to scheme against us. I'm thinking we set them up in committees. The first thing we'll do is establish a committee to define what committees will be needed, their duties, members, and scope of expertise. Of course, while said committees would be expected to head any decisions regarding their scope of expertise, we would still ourselves be responsible for the mundane things such as scheduling specific duties for individuals, hiring custodial staff, providing security, interacting with outside parties as a representative, keeping track of supplies. Rather a glorified secretarial position when we aren't out fighting the good fight and all that. They don't need to bother about that, they have bigger concerns. Why, they could be on the cusp of a breakthrough that could redefine their field! Change our very concepts of magic!
>>
>>2266731
>>2266634

Of course, my impression of the Elves and Dwarves could be absolutely wrong.

Oh, and the other thing we should do is send a diplomatic message to the Orcs recognizing their Nation and asking to officially open relations with them. They don't need to know how many people are (not) in our Colony. All they need to know is that it's there, and if they want to come visit and look around that's fine but we're really too busy at the moment to provide frequent escorts so any posting there would potentially be quite a long-term one for their diplomat.

That way, we a) Open up a source for trade to supply the Colony,

> b) I don't think Orcs will want to emigrate, as Patriotism is at a high among them right now. However, a distant diplomatic posting is useful in other ways for Rulers to discretely "promote" problematic but powerful people out of their way. Which helps us get some much needed administrative help but also

> c) Grants us some legitimacy as something other than the BBEG. It's one thing to hunt down and fight a stranger in a strange land. It's another thing to attack an independent nation (well, city state if they don't look too close). It could keep Mera's forces from just outright attacking us on the basis that Mera doesn't like us. I mean we haven't really attacked her or her people much less the nation. Except that one Knight we fought, but to be fair we repeatedly offered him the chance to stand down and he continued his aggressive actions towards us leading to violence. Damn straight we shot first, they were trying to burn some lady and he ignored our warnings. But we also shot to disable, which I think shows our admirable restraint in the use of minimum force, otherwise the misunderstanding could have been much worse.

So yeah. Having that kind of protection is super valuable. Meanwhile, the Orc nation ALSO gets recognized, which is always nice.

d) We can import workers from the Orc nation. In exchange for building infrastructure, we can lease mining and mineral rights probably. If there's one thing a new nation needs, it's a rapid influx of material from primary industry. If we can provide security to them, they can work here developing primary industry.

e) and that brings us to the humans. We need some of those to provide services such as food and lodging etc. for the Orcs and Elves. I mean they could probably work with the Orcs too. But it's better if the people who do that are actually settling and joining our colony. Keep as much wealth there as possible, develop infrastructure and a community, provide a non-elven political bloc.

Offer contractual employment to Dwarven specialists, preferable ones that are isolated or ostracized from the community.

Open our resources to exploitation by the Orcish nation in exchange for labour as the tax for it. Make sure to co-ordinate that with Shiloth so that the Worms habitat isn't damaged, as well as making sure they see some benefit so they help protect the area and don't eat people, unless they do something to deserve it.

Trade Elvish wine to the Dwarves for staples and booze, sell that to the Orcish workers in exchange for raw material, then have our Dwarves set up manufacturing to produce equipment that we can sell back to the Dwarven and Orcish Nations.

In turn, we can use that money to finance a military force ostensibly for "further pacification of the hinterland and the monsters therein". Additionally we can promote an aggressive PR campaign in the Human empire to encourage immigration from their skilled labour force, and hopefully even investment from their political class. In return, the Colony can "invest" in people back in the Human Empire, setting up stakeholder loans for people to come out and work on the new colony as farmers that own their land, or running small businesses etc.

It's, ironically for the Nazis, a very German plan. High end manufacturing of resources a migrant labour force develops, at a competitive advantage from on-site development, funded by direct taxation on extracted resources but also by having a monopoly on services provided to the workforce, as well as providing stakeholder loans which in addition to bringing in more taxable citizens we can charge them interest on the loan after a grace period.

"But Anon, we don't have time for this. Besides, the Church won't let people emigrate to the Colony!"

I know I've been saying "We", but Alex should definitely not be in charge of the Colony. Absolutely not. No way, no how.

This is all Haller's gig. We can con him into it by giving him the same "Glorified Secretary" line we give the Elves, and just steadily continue to dump things on him as we go out setting it up.

Here, a bunch of Elves. Have some Dwarves. Did you know that there are Orcs here? They also just founded a nation.

Anyways. That solves the Mera issue, because we're really the only one she has a problem with. So we simply aren't a citizen of the Colony nor a member of its Government. Instead, we're a diplomatic representative of the Federation, providing liason with the Colony as well as acting as a representative for the newly sapient Worms. Who I feel we should make citizens of the Federation by right of Birth since we're kind of their Mom, who then require our services to integrate them into the Colonial community. All proper and expected of a diplomat.

Scholar elves are social outcasts. The reason they don't form their own nation is that there really are too few of them, and they are HIGHLY dependent on other elves.

Dwarves have just had a governmental collapse, and are undergoing restructuring. Right now most of them are out of work and in poverty.

You arrive at Levi's location, jumping from the mech. You run up to the mechanic as Seirye is helping them out of the mech.

"Oh good, now you're here. I see you made your goddamn pet elf get me instead of coming yourself. Nice going on the dragon, by the way. What made you think EXPLOSIVES would stop the EXPLOSION?" The mechanic stares at you, "Or would a question on the comms hurt? By the way, this mechanic? She is TERRIBLE at getting someone out of a sealed cockpit. I pretty much did most of the work. She needs some serious training."

"Well, the colony is ours now." You announce, "Can you repair your mech?"

Levi stares at you, "You fucking kidding me? Can I fix the Hummingbird? Did your brain get lost last battle? When have I EVER been unable to fix a mech, Alex?"

You pause... You can't recall any time.

"Yeah, that's what I thought. What next?"

"Well, maybe I can have Hilda help you out."

"Fuck no, I am not trying out 'magic' on me." Levi states, "Did you? Thats why you have a tiny girl body, right?"

goddamnit Levi.

we should definitely stop for now and try to fix up the hummingbird. Also we should at least undergo general maintenance check for all our mech(the admiral too if he wants and if levi can handle it). We did use some asspulls since we came over here and I don't like the idea of something going loose and break down just because we didn't allocate a bit of time to do the most basic thing one should do. Even if the newt is a sturdy mech.
There's also blyat too, that could be looked at and see if we can smoothen out the proverbial edge functionality wise, if we can find any.
Meanwhile we could let hilda/seirye/levi team up and take a look at the remains of stuff we blew up to see if anything useful could be salvaged.
>>
>>2267259
Prioritize getting Hummingbird fixed.
Once that's done, see if we can't use any parts that didn't get blowed the fuck up to upgrade the Blyat past it's "Useful, but just so" status.
>>
>>2267259
There is a bunch of things to be done.
>After Haller is done with the funeral rites check with him the state of the colony, seal any security breach and prepare temporary accomodations for everyone, we will stay a bit.
>Meanwhile, have Levi checked up with the medical supplies of the colony, just to make sure.
>Hold Levi by the shoulder and look at him on the eye and tell him that he can say everything he want of us for not being perfect, but that he should apologize for seyrie for calling her a "pet" and going beserk on her for not being able to deal with technology centuries ahead of her, even more so taking in consideration that she was a slave just yesterday.
>Have Levi fix things and do maintenance to our mechs while we go check the colony.
>Check the Nebels outside, or what is left of them and check for survivors... THEN SUMMON SHILATH HERE WITH OUR LOUD SPEAKERS.
>Make a deal with shilath, tell her about getting cattle for them to create and about making them a member of the colony if they can follow the same rules, at least see if she is okay with safe passage for our personnel and citizens.
>If there is any nazi still alive, have Shilath decide if they should be turned or devored, maybe make them play a game to decide or something...
>Open up whatever is left in our beverage stock and have a small party to celebrate taking the colony without losing more lives.
>Use the time to explain to Hilda why nazis are bad and why turning them into monster girls is actually being merciful with them, have Levi help if possible.
>Make Levi and Seyrie use the mech dragon parts to update the Blyat and our mech, meanwhile train Hilda to pilot.
>Decide if we're going to use Mirna's mech to make a shrine to her or if we're going to fix it and use it.
>Go back to Mirna's(Hilda piloting the Blyat) lefting Seyrie to help Haller until we go back.

Anon, that goddess rules the kingdom almost directly, and she doesn't care about nations or whatever, she has been sending her troops to actively destroy everyone who worship other gods and destroy her temples... they are in a holy war and have decided that we are evil incarnated(the pantheon literally just summoned us to deal with her) and have already summoned a japanese protag to kill us.

We cannot go around spreading our location to other people or recruting random people in the empire, we have to transport our cargo on our own and recruit only those we know that aren't going to tell back our location to the empire.

DO NOT ASSUME THAT THE CHURCH IS OUR ONLY ENEMY, THE WHOLE EMPIRE IS OUT TO GET US AND EVERYONE WHO DOESN'T BEND TO MERA.

Hate to bring you down here, but... Iceworms have a high body temperature. They cannot survive outside of regions that are frigid. The location you are at is near the equator, and is tropical and hot. Shilath's innards would cook in the heat and kill her. That is why the worms don't come down the mountain... they can't.

Of course, that also brings up another point... the island is not within sight of the mainland. Your loudspeakers cannot call someone that is over a hundred miles away.

We have a reason, have a species that can live around the island and thus be our first line of defense.
They also have a reason to want to live there, as the tropical habitat has far more food than icy mountains.

If this works, it would be a win-win situation.

Heck, the tropical worms could even export food for their icy brethren.

The mermaids could despair at this, though, but I'm sure that we can reach a common ground with them.

"We need to get the hummingbird back up. Seirye needs to learn how to be a better mechanic so-"

"Damn right she does." Levi interrupted.

"So take her with you. She's a nice girl, don't be so harsh with her."

"Alex, I'm out of the mech, so we proved she has more sense than you... She can actually listen. Yeah, I'll do that... But you are not my boss, Alex. Remember that." The mechanic motioned to Seirye, "Alright ears, let's get this junk to a mech bay."

With that resolved, you look over the colony. It's made entirely of prefabricated structures, using a pattern method to build. This makes a variety of buildings for various functions, like houses and greenhouses, but it also has factories. You find two mech factories, capable of producing arms and armor with a proper staff. There is also ore processing, which bears a tunnel that dives below the ground. A training ground allows the improvement of military personnel, or the training of new ones, and a hospital (with a staff) would provide medical services and supplies. There is also a construction yard of sorts, which could allow the construction of various structures and facilities later. An administration building holds laboratories allowing scientific research and development... And, of course, the spaceport...

All the preparations are completed, but there is nobody to run any of the facilities.
In priority:
>Greenhouses: 0/5
>Training ground: (Staff) 0/10 (Trainees) 0/100 [Active]
>Mech Bay 1: 0/5 [Active]
>Mech Bay 2: 0/5
>Hospital: 0/20
>Ore Processing: 0/50
>Mech Factory 1: 0/25
>Mech Factory 2: 0/25
>Administration: (Command) 1/10 (research) 0/40 (Military)
>Spaceport: (staff) 0/50 (CWS Iowa Recovery) 0/500

>Unassigned personnel: 2 - Blackmaul brigands (Novice Military) - location: Luxor, Meran Empire

You head to Haller. He is in front of a computerized stone that scrolls names through it.

"I have a chip in my brain, Alex. I know the names of every crewman on my ship. My daughter worked on the bridge, you know. Always bright, that one, so proud to be working on the same ship as her dad. I would have been pleased if she managed to get on any ship, but she worked hard to get on mine." He stared at the screen as names scrolled past, "I didn't choose for her to come with me... I checked administration. She wrote logs of the colony's progress... Up to the attack. One of the engineers turned off the power. Sided with them... for power. Her last entry was an apology to me. She said she'd be the one to wake me up."

You pause, unsure what to do, he's clearly grieving.

"I named the place after her. You might have chosen otherwise, but allow me this concession."

"What... is needed for the colony, Haller?"

"People. I can do a lot on my own, keeping the place defended or training troops. But if you want this place to last, food will need to be made. Other facilities can be assigned people too."
>Continues
>>
>>2269501
"First, you'd probably want a mech bay running. It's mostly automated, and five mechanics can service twice the amount of mechs per bay. In addition, the hospital will make medikits, but there needs to be staff that know healing for medical aid."

"Then on the production side of things, ore processing and mech factories need staff to mine, smelt, and forge materials and weapons." Haller looked out over the water towards the ship, "Research and development are needed, and maybe... Just maybe... we can get my ship flying again."

You blink at the thought of a capital ship from the core worlds being active. Just the sheer possibilities... support from above, calling in backup... oh it makes you shiver with excitement. A mech ace alone is a threat, but a mech ace with an army backing them?

"Of course.. I speak only of the Iowa. Efforts to repair that are a pipe dream, I need half a thousand people to do that... and a bit less to crew it. Recovery efforts could maybe be diverted to construction..."

You nod. It's a nice dream though.

"We need people first though." Haller replies.

"About staying the night here..." You start.

"Go ahead, take a house... We built them, might as well use them." He looks back to the memorial, "If you'll excuse me... I need a bit more time alone."

I don't know if I'm jumping the shark here, but I feel that could deal with their food problem and give us a line of defense that we don't have to feed(as they can get full of fish).

And maybe that could make things better for Shilath on the long go if the two species can cooperate. Also, its more easy to persuade them to rise cattle as anon suggested if part of them are already having food to spare.
