ello, good people of /qst/. This quest is, as is probably obvious from the OP pic, based on the Teen Titans animated series. You'll be taking the part of a young man and potential Titan, guiding him through his trials and tribulations.

>Rules

There will be a 15 minute voting period between posts.

Please only choose one option (I will let you know in cases where you can choose more)

An option with two arrows (>>) beside it is one that can be combined with other options

Write-ins of dialogue are allowed, but they won't be put in as-written, just sort of the spirit of the write-in. Additionally, dialogue write-ins require a significant amount of support from other players to be put in, as they can greatly affect the character.

Action write-ins will only be allowed under certain circumstances, which I'll announce. You can suggest an action to me if you want, and I may allow it, but might not depending on various factors.

No dice system in this quest. Victory and defeat will come down to decisions rather than random luck. Learn from experiences, develop strategies, and think outside the box at times (like I said, an action can be suggested to me).

Above all, have fun. I want this to be an enjoyable experience for everyone. Through success, failure, and everything in-between, I hope this will be an adventure worth remembering.

Everyone so far has been happy with the gifts you've given them. You're glad, of course, that your gesture toward them has been appreciated. But as you walk the halls toward Robin's room, you can't help but feel somewhat apprehensive.

Your conversation with Slade plays over in your mind, and you are not looking forward to how Robin will react if (or, if you're being honest with yourself, when) he finds out that you followed a dangerous criminal into an alley, and discussed making a deal with him. Part of you hopes that Slade doesn't take your advice and contact Robin, but as you approach the door to Robin's room, only for it to slide open without warning to reveal a clearly irate Robin, you realize that the masked criminal did exactly as you instructed.

"We need to talk," Robin says to you, either ignoring or not seeing what you have in your hand. "Now."

He turns and strolls back into his room, and you follow, not wanting to anger him further at this point.

Even if Robin was in a good mood right now, his room would not be the most comforting place. It's dimly lit, with solid gray walls covered in newspaper pages detailing various criminal activities that have occurred in the city. It sort of feels like walking into a police station for an interrogation, only without a good cop to reign in the bad.

No, that's not fair. Robin's a reasonable guy. Still, you know that you're in for a chewing out.

He gestures for you to take a seat, and paces back and forth behind his desk once you do so. For some reason, the image of a wolf preparing to strike against a wounded deer comes to your mind, though you do your best to dispel it before Robin speaks.

"I was just contacted by Slade...." Robin begins, his tone somewhere between shock, disbelief, and fury. "He told me that the two of you had a talk earlier today."

He makes it sound as if you destroyed a precious family heirloom, or something of that severity. Robin's hatred of Slade runs deeper than you might have thought.

"He said that you told him to contact me about working together against Blood," Robin continues, taking a seat across from you and folding his hands on the desk. "I want to know how and why this conversation happened."

His voice is calm now, but you can tell that his current tone is being forced, and that it's taking a lot of self control not to lash out at you over this. You should choose your next words carefully.

>A. "Slade called me into an alleyway and told me that he wanted to make an alliance to stop Blood."

>B. "I ran into Slade on my way home from the mall. He says that Blood's up to something that even worries him, and suggested working together to stop it."

>C. "Who cares how it happened? What matters is that Slade wants to help us."

"I ran into Slade on my way home from the mall," you answer, telling the truth without going into specifics of just how you "ran into" him. "He says that Blood's up to something that even worries him, and suggested working together to stop it."

Robin doesn't seem very pleased with this answer, but beyond narrowing his eyes, he doesn't really give much of a response to your obviously intentional vagueness. He doesn't say anything for a short while, though you aren't sure of the reason for this. Robin's not usually one to take very long in deciding what to say. That mask, as usual, makes him hard to read, though his posture makes it clear that he's not exactly happy right now. As if that weren't obvious enough already.

"We did work with Slade once before," Robin tells you, releasing a breath and seeming to calm down a bit. "But that was when the world was literally ending, partly because of him. He can be very useful to have on your side, but he won't work with someone unless there's something in it for him. Maybe he really is worried about Blood being a threat and wants him stopped, but it seems too simple."

Robin stands up, turning his back to you and moving over to the wall, examining one of the newspapers taped there.

"Slade's hiding something from us," Robin tells you, his tone leaving no room for doubt. "But Blood is obviously up to something big. We'll see what Slade has to offer, then make a decision."

He turns back to you. "But, what you did was incredibly reckless, and that's the second time you've done something like this. I warned you before that there'd be consequences, so here it is. For the next two weeks, you are not allowed to leave the Tower by yourself."

>A. "Alright, I understand."

MoG, I'm at work and my vote is kind of long, and I was concerned that I wouldn't get it in in time for other anons to give it consideration.

I'll try and repost it at the appropriate time, but just in case:

[spoilers]>F. “There's more. According to Slade, Blood was behind Kardiac's attack, and his goal was to capture me. Blood still wants me back, willing or otherwise, apparently. Slade also knew about Simon, the HIVE agent who came to the tower. I don't know if that means he's monitoring the tower somehow. Finally… he knew a lot about me, Robin. What my old name was. That I lost my memories. And that I'm getting some back. He asked me if I remembered anything about Blood’s plan. I told him to go through you, and teleported out of there. ...I know I took a risk when you told me not to. I’m sorry.”
Then, if he has no follow up question and we’re dismissed, add

>>E. "I got you this when I went shopping" (give him the video game)

Then leave, appropriately chastened.[/spoilers]

"There's more," you tell Robin, not arguing his decision, but instead wanting to make sure that he at least learns all that Slade told you. "According to Slade, Blood was behind Kardiac's attack, and his goal was to capture me. Apparently, Blood still wants me back, willing or otherwise."

"We suspected as much," Robin points out, wondering where you're going with this.

"Slade also knew about Simon, the HIVE agent who came to the tower," you continue. "I don't know if that means Slade's been monitoring the tower somehow."

Now, Robin looks surprised, and more than a little concerned. That's understandable, given how he seems to view Slade. Nervousness, or even fear seem natural, but you also see a level of anger in him that frankly scares you.

"Finally," you continue, hoping that further conversation might distract your leader from his anger. "He knew a lot about me, Robin. What my old name was, that I lost my memories, and that I'm getting some back."

Nope, that did not make him forget his anger. If anything, he seems more furious than before. You just pray that his rage is not directed at you, but more focused on Slade at the moment.

"Did you tell him anything else?" Robin asks, his voice tense.

"He asked me if I remembered anything about Blood's plan," you answer. "I told him to go through you, and teleported out of there...I know I took a risk when you told me not to. I'm sorry."

Some of Robin's anger seems to melt away, but you know you're still not off the hook for what you did.

"I forgive you," Robin assures you, his voice gentler now. "But, your punishment stands. Two weeks. No leaving the tower alone."

You get up, and place Robin's gift on his desk. "I got you this when I went shopping."

Robin picks it up, smiling. "Wow, this is...thank you. I'll tell you what, make it one week."

And that week passes....more slowly than you expect. You didn't spend all too much time outside of the tower by yourself anyway, but now that you're forbidden to do so, it just somehow seems more appealing. But, you gave Robin your word, and you intend to honor that.
>>
>>2253520
And besides, your punishment doesn't mean "no fun allowed". You're in the living room, playing a racing game against Cyborg and Beast Boy. True, you keep losing, but you do manage to sabotage the others when they're neck-and-neck more than once, leading to one gaining victory, and the other looking ready to break a controller.

Starfire and Raven sit at one of the tables behind the sofa, playing a game of chess. According to the others, it took a while for Starfire to really understand the game, but once she did, she became quite good at it. On the occasions that you look back to see how things are progressing, she and Raven seem to be pretty evenly matched.

Robin is absent, probably still working in his room.

>>
>>2253536
"Starfire, Raven, can I play the winner?" you ask as Beast Boy gives a victory dance to an unamused Cyborg.

"Would it not make more sense to play whoever it is that loses?" Starfire asks, taking out one of Raven's knights. "You are new at this game, after all."

"Sure, you can play whoever wins," Raven answers, taking out Starfire's queen.

Getting up from the sofa, you take a seat near the girls as Beast Boy and Cyborg engage one-another in another match, each one looking far too serious for what's supposed to be a fun game. Raven and Starfire, for their part, seem more relaxed, but still focused. Starfire seems to have taken out more of Raven's pieces, but Raven seems to be more optimistic now that her opponent's queen is out of the equation.

For several more turns the match continues, with each player being whittled down to the point where four pieces remain on the map, with two belonging to each. But, you see what's about to happen, Raven takes out Starfire's last pawn, which was very close to the other side of the board, and smirks at Starfire.

"Checkmate," she declares.

Red flashes of light fill the room, and the familiar ringing of the alarm lets you know that the Teen Titans are needed. You rush to get your costume, then meet the others down in the garage, hopping into the T-Car and speeding out of the garage with Cyborg behind the wheel.

"Any idea what we're in for?" Cyborg asks Robin over the radio.

"I'm not sure," Robin answers. "Reports say that a large, bald man with a sword is causing some serious property damage."

"Kataoru?" Raven suggests from the back.

"He'd fit the physical description, but the reports are saying that this guy has super strength and can fly," Robin replies. "Unless he's got his hands on another power gem, I don't see how it could be him."

"We'll take him down whoever he is!" Beast Boy declares with eager confidence.

>A. "Who's Kataoru?"

"Who's Kataoru?" you ask as the T-car rapidly closes in on its intended destination.

"Some sword-wielding cue-ball that tricked Robin into climbing a mountain on the other side of the world," Beast Boy answers, really only giving you more questions.

"He's convinced that he's the greatest warrior in the world," Cyborg tells you. "He tried to prove it by beating and tricking Robin, but the tables got turned on him in the end. Since then, he's been wanting revenge, and doing everything he can to make himself strong enough to get it. He's an expert fighter. He might not be as good as Robin, but he makes up for it with cheap tricks and weapons."

"Cheap tricks shouldn't let him fly, or give him super strength," Raven points out.

"There he is!" Robin's voice declares over the radio.

Looking ahead, you see a tall, bald, muscular, light-skinned man in red brandishing a katana, which he uses to slice through a fire-hydrant, sending water shooting up into the air. You see an upside-down police car on top of another that seems to be burning.

Robin and Cyborg pull up, and everyone disembarks, forming up to confront the enemy.

"Kataoru!" Robin shouts. "I can see why the True Master wouldn't train you. You don't ever seem to learn."

"Ah, Robin," the man greets, lowering his blade to his side. "I have been expecting you. I'd considered paying your tower a visit, but publicly humiliating you sounds much better."

"I've beaten you before," Robin points out, taking out his staff. "And I didn't come alone."

"Oh, yes, your little gang," Kataoru acknowledges, looking over the team, lingering on you for a moment. "And you've been recruiting. Excellent. Together, you may actually provide me a challenge."

"We'll do more than that," Robin promises. "Titans, go!"

While you're eager to see the results of your psychic martial arts training, you don't think going up against a veteran warrior who seems determined to destroy the Titans is the best way to test yourself. For now, you'll just support the others. It's not exactly the most "glorious" approach, but it's certainly a valuable role.

Beast Boy is the first to attack, transforming into a cheetah and rushing at the sword-wielding criminal. With a roar, your green friend leaps at the man, only to be effortlessly tossed over Kataoru's shoulder with one hand.

As Beast Boy hits the ground, Starfire begins hurling starbolts, shouting with anger each time she sends a green projectile flying. Kataoru is forced back, and Beast Boy attempts to strike him from behind, this time taking the form of a charging bull. At the last moment, however, Kataoru stops blocking Starfire's attacks, sheathes his sword, and turns around, grabbing the bull by the horns before spinning back toward Starfire, throwing Beast Boy up at her, and sending both falling to the ground.

"Raven, now!" Cyborg shouts as he rushes toward the man, readying his sonic cannon to fire.

A darkness surrounds Kataoru, and his arms are bound at his sides while his legs are bound together, held in place by Raven's dark magic. He struggles against Raven's spell as Cyborg takes aim. As your friend fires his cannon, however, Kataoru smirks and shatters Raven's bindings, pulling back his right hand and, to, your dumbfounded disbelief, punching Cyborg's blast right back where it came from.

This time, you manage to erect a barrier, protecting Cyborg from the worst of the blast. But, the sonic cannon is still too much for one of your force fields to handle, and the barrier shatters, Cyborg being thrown to the ground from the force of it.

Now, Robin moves in, throwing a trio of exploding disks at Kataoru's feet, the resulting blasts creating a smokescreen, which Robin takes advantage of to strike at Kataoru, who staggers out of the smoke with his jaw in the air. Robin follows, punching the big man in the gut before spinning and slamming his staff into the warrior's face. Kataoru stumbles back further, looking seriously dazed. As Robin comes in for another strike, however, the big man once again grins, catching Robin's staff and swinging it to his right, flinging Robin away like mud off a shoe.

Still grinning, the man squeezes the staff, snapping it in half.

>A. Attack with psychic punches. Let's see how he can handle those kinds of attacks

Okay, enough playing support. Time to show that bald bozo what you and your friends can really do. While the others recover from their previous hits, you charge at Kataoru, who looks at you with amusement, not even bothering to raise his guard as you come running.

That suits you just fine, as it makes your first psychic punch take him by surprise. His head is thrown back as you give him a psychic slug to the nose, and you can see the confusion on his face as it lowers back down, but only for a moment, as you're close enough for physical attacks now, and leap at the man, kicking him in the face and causing him to stumble back a few steps. As you land, he recovers and takes a swing at you, but you duck and hit him with a psychic uppercut followed by a kick to the groin.

The big man groans in pain, but you don't have time to congratulate yourself before he grabs you by the ankle, throwing your leg up and knocking you to the ground. He raises his fist, and you create a barrier that he somehow manages to punch right through, still having enough force to make you feel like a bowling ball just got launched at your gut even after the barrier slowed it down.

Your stomach hurts terribly, and your body pretty much goes limp, stunned from the sudden, brutal attacks. As Kataoru pulls his fist back, you notice some sort of golden thing on his right wrist. He looks ready to attack again, but a voice gets his attention, drawing it away from you.

"Azerath, Metrion, Zinthos!" Raven shouts, hurling one of the busted police cars at Kataoru.

You recover enough to take advantage of this distraction, and roll back, not wanting to get crushed under a car along with your enemy. As you stop moving, however, you see that you shouldn't have worried about that, as the big man has somehow caught the car. He swings it at an incoming Starfire, knocking her into a light post that bends toward her on impact. Then, he hurls it back at Raven, who quickly dodges out of the way. As your friend looks back toward Kataoru, however, he's already in the air, closing in fast.

Looking at the man, you notice something odd about his shoes. It looks almost as if they have wings.

Kataoru grabs Raven's right ankle, swings her up above his head, then hurls her down to the street below, where she hits the ground in a rather painful-looking impact.

"Raven!" Beast Boy shouts in worry before growling at Kataoru and taking the form of a pteranadon, flying up to fight the man in the sky.

"So, does Kataoru usually dress like that?" you ask the others as the man in question backhands Beast Boy away.

"What are you-" Robin begins before taking another look at Kataoru. "Wait a minute, those shoes, or sandals...."

"The Sandals of Hermes," Kataoru clarifies, looking down at you and Robin. "Ancient Greek artifacts blessed by the gods to give their wearer flight."

Robin stares up at the boasting baldy, and has a look on his face like everything has fallen into place.

"Then, your strength..." Robin goes on. "You also stole-"

"The Gauntlet of Atlas," Kataoru finishes, holding up his left arm to reveal the golden gauntlet you spotted before. "With this, I have godly strength and durability. Combined with my unrivaled skill in martial arts, I am invincible!"

"We'll see about that," Cyborg declares, slamming his left fist into his right palm and looking up at Kataoru defiantly.

"You're not the only one here's that strong!" Beast Boy tells Kataoru, taking the form of a tyrannosaurus.

"And you are not the only one that can fly," Starfire adds, eyes glowing with green light as she takes to the air.

"And most of all, your skills are not unrivaled," Robin declares, pulling out several birdarangs. "I've beaten you before, and I'll enjoy doing it again."

Kataoru laughs, spreading his arms wide. "Come then, fools, and face death at the hands of the world's mightiest warrior!"

The other Titans move in to attack Kataoru, while you rush over to check on Raven. She's still lying right where she fell, eyes closed, not moving. Feeling terror grip you, you press your ear to her chest, relieved to find a heartbeat. It looks like she's simply unconscious.

A roar turns your attention back to the fight, and you look over to see Kataoru in Beast Boy's jaws, holding your big green friend's mouth open to avoid being crushed. Lifting a leg, Kataoru kicks one of Beast Boy's now large teeth with enough force to knock it free, then proceeds to leap out after it as Beast Boy reverts to normal. Beast Boy holds his mouth in pain, eyes watering, and Kataoru grabs hold of the freed tooth, hurling it at Cyborg and lodging it into your friend's sonic cannon just as he goes to fire. Cyborg howls in shock as his right arm explodes, and falls back to the ground, looking at his injury with wide-eyes.

Growling with fury, Starfire shoots beams of light from her eyes, the green streaks hitting Kataoru in the chest and pushing him back, knocking him off of his feet and into the other downed police car, which explodes in the face of Starfire's attack.

Starfire glares down at the burning wreckage, growling in frustration when Kataoru walks out unscathed.

>>A. "Okay, how are we supposed to beat this guy?"

>C. Let yourself get angry, and direct that at Kataoru

Our best bet would be to remove the sandals (maybe by baiting him into flying while someone grabs hold of the thing), neutralizing his flight, then finding a way to knock him out of it long enough to TP and remove the Gauntlet.
Alternatively we rended him flightless and then drop him from far above. Even with godlike durability that's gotta hurt.

It'd be easier to get Kid Flash and Jinx into this.

Jinx could probably trip him and Flash is - probably - fast enough to remove items safely from this bald asshole.

Well, I assumed you were referring to a specific person due to your attached picture and mentioning them being her hand-me-downs
>>
>>2254064
It's okay MoG. You don't have to say anything. I know we're surrounded by heathens who would turn on you for saying it outright.
I'm kidding of course, I'm so hilariously outnumbered by people who prefer other girls that it isn't even funny.

"Okay, how are we supposed to beat this guy?" you ask Robin as Kataoru walks away from the burning wreckage of the police car.

"We'll find a way," Robin tells you, hurling half a dozen birdarangs at the approaching enemy. "Don't give up!"

He's no longer aiming near Kataoru to create a smokescreen or scare the larger warrior. Instead, he's throwing these explosive devices directly at the man, doing his best to even slow him down. It doesn't seem to be working, nor do Starfire's starbolts, at this point. Beast Boy transforms into a strange, almost werewolf-like creature and howls as he rushes Kataoru, swiping at the man's throat with sharp claws. Kataoru grabs one of Beast Boy's massive wrists, but your fluffy green friend kicks with a powerful leg, actually managing to push Kataoru back. But, you still don't think that this weird bestial form will be enough.

Things are not looking good, and you aren't sure Kataoru's going to just let you and your friends go if you retreat. This is a desperate situation, which means you have to take a risk or two for the sake of you and your friends. You should be able to maintain control, and the power you'll gain from what you're about to do might be enough to help Beast Boy turn the tide. You draw upon angry memories, letting yourself almost relive them, and the emotion of anger spread through your mind and body. This time, when you attack Kataoru, you put some feeling into it, and he feels your anger, alright. A solid, angry slug right to the chest than actually makes him bend forward a bit, right into a swipe from Beast Boy that, to your pleasant surprise, actually leaves a mark on the super-powered warrior's face.

Kataoru soon regains his footing and wipes his hand over the spot that Beast Boy struck, examining it as his face begins to contort in anger. It looks like blood's been drawn, and Kataoru is not happy about it at all.

Beast Boy howls in attack, leaping at Kataoru, who manages to not only stop himself from being tackled, but also manages to throw Beast Boy to the ground, the large creature lying on its back. Grabbing Beast Boy's wrist again, Kataoru stomps on your friend's chest, and twists the arm until it breaks with a sickening crack.

Beast Boy whimpers, seeming to fall into unconsciousness.

Rage flares within you, and with a furious yell, you strike Kataoru again, this time throwing him off his feet with the impact, and sending him slamming against the wall of a nearby building.

Your head is beginning to hurt, and you're really starting to see red.

>A. Let yourself get angrier, focus that on Kataoru and crush him!

>B. Calm down, you can't let yourself burn out or lose control. Not now!

>>C. "Does anybody have a plan, here?"

>>D. "Come on, we have to hit him with everything! We can beat him!"

Support.

When we teleport we take what we're touching. Maybe if we only touch the gauntlet we can teleport with just the gauntlet?
>>
>>2254116
Seconding this.
>>
>>2254116
Well, I think if we just touch the gauntlet and teleport it will take Katarou with us, without removing the gauntlet. I wanted to teleport next to him and try to remove it while he is (hopefully) surprised.
>>
>>2254106
>B. Calm down, you can't let yourself burn out or lose control. Not now!
>>E Ask the other Titans to distract Kataoru while you teleport next to him and go for his gauntlet.
>>
>>2254123
I think it'll be hard to strip it off his person, even if he's surprised. Could try a one-two.

Teleport to him, try to strip the gauntlet, if we can't, immediately teleport again while holding the gauntlet.

My other idea was to use a Crush to hold him in place and have Starfire, our strongest teammate try to strip it from him.
>>
>>2254113
>>2254124
This is not the time to let your powers get away from you. It's difficult, but you manage to calm yourself down, causing the strength of your powers to return to normal, but also giving yourself control. It looks like staying mad wouldn't have done much good, in any case. Kataoru doesn't seem particularly hurt by your attack, if anything he looks annoyed.

That gauntlet he has. As long as he's wearing that, you don't even know if it's possible for the team to beat him. But, if you can get that thing off of him, you know that Robin and Starfire could do it no problem, even if you exhausted yourself giving them that opening.

"Guys, keep him distracted for me," you tell Robin and Starfire as Kataoru resumes his approach.

"Alright," Robin replies, pulling out two birdarangs and somehow making them into what looks like a sword.

He charges at Kataoru, who gives an amused laugh as he draws his own sword. After a quick exchange of blows, Robin is hurled back with a kick to the chest, and Kataoru puts his blade away.

Starfire hammers him with starbolts once more, throwing eye attacks into the mix. That's definitely got his attention, and you use your powers of teleportation to appear beside the man and grab onto his gauntlet, attempting to rip it off of him. The second it budges, though, Kataoru kicks you in the stomach, throwing you back to land on your back in the middle of the nearby sidewalk. He rushes toward you, pulling out his sword and ignoring the starbolts Starfire continues to hit him with. He lifts his blade and swings!

That's when you see a flash of red, and hear the clang of metal against metal. Your view of Kataoru is obscured by a dark-haired woman in red who stands between you and your would-be killer, blocking his blade with silver bracelets on her wrists.

>To be continued

And that's where we'll call it for tonight.

I'm planning to continue tomorrow night, and hope to see y'all there.

Thanks for coming, and I hope everybody had fun.

As always, I welcome feedback and suggestions, and will be lurking to see what you have to say.

Neat.

When is next game planned for?

And behind the curtain question was there any way for the Titans to come out on top in this one, or was it always a given that we'd get rescued by Wonder Woman? I figure she was always a safety net, at the least
>>
>>2254180
Well, I can honestly tell you the end result was not predetermined to have Wonder Woman saving you

And, like I said, I'm planning to continue tomorrow
