Either way, its fucking adorable. You take a sip from the offered spoon and it tastes like chicken soup. Well, except for all the vegetables and meat and shit. Its chicken flavored broth.

It’s good though and that’s what matters. You are happy to be able to taste chicken again. People will definitely love this.

While you contemplate this, Paradigm hands you the spoon and opens her mouth with another “Ahhn~” You are glad the chicken broth isn’t sugary, because if you had any more sweetness, you would probably get diabetes. You hold the spoon up to her mouth and she takes a sip of it.
“Tastes like chicken.”

“Yep.”

You can probably find somewhere nice to eat later, so you put the “soup” into bowls and stash them in your inventory. Man, inventories are convenient…

Once you are all ready, the two of you head out. Leaving the house, you are greeted by the cold afternoon air. You wish it was a bit warmer for the occasion, but at least you both have comfortable winter clothes. She holds out her hand and you take it in yours. Its small and soft and warm. You like holding hands with her, but you wonder if you look like a parent walking a kid to school…
Oh well, there are plenty of other people who are stuck as dwarves and cats and stuff, so its normal here. Sort of.

Maybe you should look into those appearance potions some more...

Putting the depressing line of thought aside, you wonder where you should go for your little date. Something interesting about this world is that the city is much significantly larger than it was in the game. You haven’t really explored the city since you got here, so you figure this is as good a chance as any.

“Want to go anywhere specific?” You ask her.

“Finding a place to go is supposed to be the guy’s job dummy.” she says.

There are a lot of choices, but which one is the best?
The park seems like a classic choice, but then again, it might be kinda boring. You didn’t really see anything in it, just trees and grass. While that might be nice, people who play Elder Tale aren’t really known for their love of nature.

Nah, if its anything like the game, that’s all just shitty overpriced gear and tasteless food.
Thinking some more, you remember hearing about a hot spring inn. She is Japanese, so she would probably enjoy it, but you have no clue where it is or if its even real...
Plus you don’t think being separated on your first date is a good plan and you aren’t sure if you are ready for mixed bathing yet.

“Alright, follow me then.” you say confidently after hopefully not making her wait too long…

The two of you head to the northwest of the city along the main road. The walk there really gives you a feel for how big the place is. The last time when you came this way, you were in a bit of a rush, but now that you are just calmly walking, you spend the time observing the scenery. Most of the buildings near your own house are other nice looking PHUs, but when you get further away from it, they are replaced by more run down shacks amid the crumbling remains of modern style houses. There is a lot of empty space too. It is certainly an interesting aesthetic choice that the developers took. You aren’t exactly sure about the lore reasons behind it all, but it is pretty cool anyways.

“So is this where we are going? Are we making out in a rundown suburban neighborhood?” Saya asks you.

“Nope.” What a weird date that would be...

“Boo.~”

“We are almost there though.”

“Are we going outside the city?” It's a fair question considering this is the rough direction towards the bridge to the west gate.

“Nah, you’ll see.” you say as you two continue to walk.

Eventually the shacks are left behind and the two of you approach the city center. You pass by a few blocks of its broken down skyscrapers and head north into the port district. Rather than the post apocalyptic look in much of the city, a lot of the buildings around the port are moderately well kept warehouses with decent roads and other sorts of buildings in between.

“Well this is different.” you say. In the game there was just a lot of open space behind the instanced shipyards.

“Yeh. It looks like the player shipyards all got torn into sections and all the warehouses got moved back away from the harbor.”

“I guess that’s how it works putting things into real world like space.”

“Yeh, pretty cool.”

You head west through the warehouses until you reach a road running along the top of a seawall. As you get there, you notice it is lightly snowing. Small white flakes float gently down from the twilight sky. You look out on the sight in front of you.

“That’s… Really pretty…” Saya says.

“Yeh.”

Its an absolutely breathtaking view. Living in Boston, you have seen plenty of ships in the winter before, but nothing like this.

Several docks protrude from the road out into the harbor. Numerous tall wooden sailing ships are anchored next to them. It looks like there aren’t many players interested in losing their ships right now, because the ports are pretty much deserted. A thin layer of white covers the abandoned ships and empty road. The only sound that you can hear is the movement of the water and occasional quiet creaking of the wooden ships. Beyond the sailing ships at the docks, there are a few more anchored out in the bay, slowly bobbing in the small harbor waves.

“Is this where you were bringing me?” she asks.

“Yeh.” you say.

A small gust of wind blows by, causing snow to swirl up around the two of you. It's cold on your face, but you don’t mind, because the hand holding onto yours is warm.

“It’s so beautiful Will... How did you come up with this? Have you been here already?”

“I lived in Boston, so I kinda had a feeling, but this is even nicer than I expected.”

She lets go of your hand and takes a few steps away from you then twirls around slowly a few times while sticking her arms out.
“I never really appreciated winter back home. It was always just an annoying pain in the ass, but seeing this now really leaves a different feeling.”

“I know what you mean.” you say remembering the recent IRL winter storm that basically shut down the city.

“Maybe it’s because I have a someone to enjoy it with?” she wonders.

“That is probably part of it.” you say going over and picking her up into a princess carry.

With her eyes still closed, she whacks you on the head with her staff.

“I notic-” You cut her off by actually kissing her.

She drops the staff and opens her eyes in surprise. Not letting you escape, she quickly grabs your head with both of her hands, locking your lips to hers. You could easily break her hold, but you have no intention of doing so.

After a while she lets go of your head and you separate from her. You are both panting. Your warm breath comes out in white clouds in the cold air and mixes an inch from your faces before floating off and dispersing into the twilight.

“That was hot.” she says.

“Yeh.” You aren’t sure if a kiss is something you should describe as “hot”, but your body seems to agree. The boner in your heart has quickly become a boner in your pants. You shift her body a bit to make sure she isn’t in a position where she might accidentally notice it...

“How about we go eat on one of the NPC boats?” you suggest.

“Ooo, that could be cool. I have never been on a boat like these before.”

“Alright cool.”

The two of you walk along the line of boats until you find the “Jewel of Portage”, one of the NPC ships featured in the area’s quest line and the Ice Pack raid. It’s quite a bit bigger than most of the other player ships and it looks much nicer than all but one or two. In the game it was captained by Sir Pents Layer, an old sailor with a name that ends up being a joke used in one of his quests. You never did it of course since it was level 89, but it was popular enough that you at least knew about it. The ship was also open to players in the port to get a look at even if they weren’t high enough level to use it. You assume that carries over, so you might as well check it out now that it’s real.

From the outside of the ship, you can see several wooden shutters where you assume the cannons are fired from, but as it is in port, they are all closed. The sails are furrowed up and tied away at the top of the masts. Lines of rope secure the ship to the docks, and its anchor keeps it in place. The gangplank that is usually out in game has been withdrawn, so you just jump onto the ship with your monk body’s superior athletic prowess. The takeoff and landing are a bit slippery, but it is nothing that can deter your new balance.

You put Saya down on the ship so she can walk around and take a look while you open the trapdoor leading below deck.

“Wow, this is pretty cool. Coming here was a good idea. I’m gonna have to say that it evens out with the Taco Bell comment.”

“Nah, you said I was basically like your favorite food, so that’s good enough I guess. You should probably eat healthier if we ever get back though...”

“Oh. That works too I guess.” she says with a shrug.

You eventually manage to locate the trapdoor (by nearly tripping on the handle, thanks for the save Monk balance) underneath the layer of snow and brush it off.

“Found it.” you say opening it up.

“After you.” she says as she comes over.

Its actually pretty dark… “Can you cast your light?”

“Sure.” her staff lights up and a cute little orb of smiling yellow light flies from its tip down into the hole illuminating it.
You make your way down the ladder easily and look up at Paradigm. Her leggings cover her down there, but it still feels a bit naughty looking at her from this angle since her robe is a skirt.

“Catch me!” she says jumping into the hole.

Although you are a bit surprised, you manage to catch her easily enough.

Its actually pretty spacious down here. As expected of such a large ship. Along with cannons and hammocks and stuff, there are also lots of barrels, chests, and boxes, all probably full of stuff ships need. Towards the back of the ship is a table, so you bring her over there and put her down then take a seat next to her. You get the “soup” out of your bag and hand her one of the bowls. You also grab a couple bottles of rum and oranges to feel more pirate-y.

“Yarr, We forgot spoons, didn’t we?” you say.

“Aye Captain…”

“Alas, the sea be a cruel mistress...

“Yarr...” she says mocking disappointment.

“Bottoms up lassie, we drink to the last.” you say tipping your bowl and drinking from the side.
She imitates you and does the same.

Real Chicken Flavor™ pours into your mouth. Its deliciously rich and savory, you really have missed meat! If only you could get the whole package somehow.
The two of you eat calmly for a while, and somehow she finishes her bowl and rum before you do. That’s pretty impressive considering the size of the bowl is bigger than her head... You have to wonder where it all goes in that tiny body.

You pet her head while you finish your soup and pack up.

After exploring the ship a bit longer, it has gotten fairly late in the afternoon. Your menu says 6:30 when you check it.

You figure its about time to head home now. You have been out in the cold long enough. What better way to end a date than by curling up together near a fire at home?

“Ready to head back home?”

“Only if we can have some Hot Chocolate when we get back.”

“Sounds like a plan to me.”

She climbs back up the ladder and you follow her. In the time you were in the ship, the snow has started coming down quite a bit harder. Its probably good that you are heading home now. Saya puts her hood up, and you pick her up and jump the two of you back to the roadway on the seawall. As you two begin to trudge back, you realize that she is having some trouble. Being a dwarf must suck so much… It’s only like half a foot of snow and it’s already tough for her to walk in.

Its only natural that you give her a hand. Or in this case, a ride… You carry her back to the house on your back so she won’t have to deal with it.

Once you arrive at home, you go over and quickly light up the fireplace. Having a flaming punch is convenient. You just leave your hand sitting in the fire igniting it whenever the cooldown is up until all the logs are burning nicely. The damage is minimal and sting-y, but at least its nice and warm. By the time its lit, Paradigm has somehow managed to completely desnow herself and is wearing a different set of robes that are equally as fluffy. She puts her other ones near the fireplace to dry.

You go to your room to change and paradigm follows you.

“Hey, I’m trying to change here...”

“I noticed.” she says.

“Kyaaa~ Hentai.” you say with a deadpan closing the door in front of her.

After you change, you open the door and go back into the living room. You take out a couple of hot chocolates from your bag and hand one to Paradigm. In retrospect, you could have been drinking this on the way back, but oh well…

“Man this is the life.” she says sitting down on the couch and sipping from her cup.

“Yeh, honestly its pretty nice.” you say following her onto the couch. Its a bit stiff, but its the company that counts more than anything.
Now that you are rich, maybe you should get some nicer furniture anyways?

“As much as I am enjoying it, thinking of stuff like that makes me feel kind of restless. Wanna go grind some levels out?”

The two of you reluctantly get off the couch then head into the workshop and start making shit. Saya has it easy since she can just use the menus to craft, but you actually have to go through all the steps since you want your product to end up with taste. After a few batches you get yourself into a rhythm between working your multiple brewing stations.

“Speaking of things we can do while we work, pass me a beer man.” you oblige and hand her a bottle, then get one for yourself. You should have thought of this! Its like you're not even an alcoholic or something…

After making some more small talk about whatever things pop into your head and going through a few more bottles, you eventually begin to pick up a nice level drunkenness.

“So what do ya like most about me?” you ask her more or less out of the blue.

“I dunno~”

“Thats a lame answer.”

“No Its not! There are just too many good things!~”

“Like what?”

“You are nice and sweet and fluffy tail and you saved me and you can make beer?”

“That’s only like 4 things.”

“Yeh, but at least its not like we can’t still kiss and stuff.” you say awkwardly.

“Yeh, we just did earlier today.”

“Alright, I will!” you say confidently. You march over to her, pick her up, bring her to the Workshop bed, sit down face to face with her in your lap, and kiss her.

Either way, it’s not like you can do much of anything about it.

Wondering what time it is you take a look over at the window out of habit. It’s fairly dark outside.
Oh wait, it’s always like that here... You open your menu and take a look at the clock. 12:13 pm. You aren’t the biggest fan of oversleeping, but when you get drunk, you tend to do it anyways.

When you look over at Paradigm on the other side of you, you find her staring at you. Well maybe staring makes it sound weird. More like looking you guess?

Looking up at the ceiling, you open your menu and scroll through to select Hiroshima’s name and hit the call button.

“Yo, want to come kill some shit again?”

“Because that’s what we usually do and all the beacons are still lit up.”

“How can you tell? Are you guys not in a dungeon?”

“Actually the opposite. We are on our way past the west mountain to go kill the level 80s some more. We just passed the brazier, and let me tell you, the view is amazing.”

You would bet, the view from the south is great, but the west peak is much higher. He can probably see the entire valley(is it a valley? You aren’t sure... That just means it’s between the mountains right?) from there.

“How long did it take you to get out there?” you ask.

“About an hour if you include the climb. Looks like there will be about another 30 minutes or so to get to the edge of the barrier.”
“Damn, that’s a long way just to kill some mobs…”

“Yeh, but the exp returns from white death are so low at this point that we don’t really have a choice. We were there all day yesterday, at least 10 hours of running it and I didn’t level.”

“That sucks.”

“At least the poor bastard can have a break now.”

“So, you guys want to meet us out here or do you think you will just stick with the mobs closer to the city?”

It's a terrible idea because they will try to command everyone. They will literaly put themselfs in charge and they are focused with PK build PK killer builds.

Those kind of builds aren't suited for a raid dungeon.They would also just bull rush everything with their power and render any kind of combat experience useless.

“Alright, great, we are just looking for 2 more now. I’m gonna go see if anyone at the bar wants to go.”

By the time you finish calling him, you are already at the bar. You head inside and look around. Its pretty busy considering its just after noon. Welp, it’s not like people have anything better to do you guess…

You head over to the bar. “Any of you guys interested in going on a raid?”

You get a less than enthusiastic response.

“Free beer if you do.” Saya says. Suddenly people seem a lot more interested… You aren’t sure if thats because they realize who you are or just the beer though…

“Its a level 83 raid by the way, so we are looking for people around that level.”

A chorus of “Aww man” “Dang It “Oh well”, and other various slightly disappointed phrases goes around.

There are still a bunch of interested applicants though… You only need two more people so it will be a tough choice.

You figure you could use another tank, you and Dank are both underleveled, so having someone at the correct tier would be helpful. Brolaire seems like a good choice. Plus he has some healing skills since he is a Holy Warrior. You are pretty sure Catler will appreciate that since he is the only healer you know you have...

Your only main damage so far is Hiroshima and OnTheFence. Most of the time, DPS makes up roughly half of the party. You need more, and since you already have a Swashbuckler, Sorcerer, and Bard figure you should probably get an Assassin too, so you pick the Elf with the arctic camo. Since he is from <Winter Soldiers>, you are pretty sure he will know what he is doing, as they are one of the raiding guilds up in Portage.

“Aaaand we need DPS. Ass Assassin, you are in.”

“Alright, sounds good, but just call me ass in the future. Ass Assassin sounds kinda gay.” he says and shakes your hand.

Even with him, you are worried your damage is a bit lacking.
You guess you will also be taking a DPS position this time rather than your usual off-tank style unless DesertFox’s friend is one.

As you finish selecting your recruits, OnTheFence walks in.

“Oh? Looks like you have a bit more luck than me when it comes to getting a party.”

“Being famous definitely helps.” you say.

“Beer does too. Pass me a bottle if you would.”

“No problem.” you say handing the Assassin a bottle. “You guys ready to head out?”

“All set.” “Good to go.” “Yep.” “I was ready when we left.”

“Alright, lets go. Its a long way there.”

Your group heads towards the western gate where DesertFox said she would be waiting.

You meet up with her and her friend. A level 90 Cleric 90 Crusader named DanTheMan, then you all mount up and start on the long trek towards the mountains.

As your mooses and DesertFox’s and Dan’s deer trudge along through the snow, you wonder what you should talk about to pass the time. You aren’t the best conversationalist, so you settle for something obvious.

You nod to indicate the paladin was correct.

“Alright, that makes a bit more sense. It sucks, but it’s not the worst thing ever I guess.”

“I’m enjoying it.” Brolaire says. “But its really too bad so many people just shut themselves away. I can see why some people are miserable like that, but from my point of view, its pretty good. I mean, who doesn’t want to live in the world of their favorite game? So what if the food is awful? I’m a great knight who fights monsters and is loved by the people! I can finally make something of myself in a way I enjoy rather than just sitting in an office all day. All those people who are stuck moping around need to look out and see the sun.”

“I’m kind of out on my opinion of the world itself. A lot of stuff has happened, and while some of it sucks, I think I am making the best of it. So far, I’m glad that I’m here.” you say. Man you are bad at this...

“Plus he got a girlfriend.” Saya adds.

“Riajuu go explode!” He replies.

“Half the stuff that happened to me is just dumb luck, literally most of what I have done is just because I am out doing things.”

“And because of spooky bullshit.” Saya adds again.

“That too, but that can also be argued to be because we were both doing shit to somehow involve ourselves with it.”

She shrugs in what you assume is agreement.

“So as long as I am out doing whatever shit will happen to me? Somehow I doubt it works like that, but its not like I have anything better to do.”

“Hey, think of it this way.” Brolaire says, “You just went out for a drink today and now you are going to go raiding with like the 8th most famous guy in the city.” he says with a laugh.

Wow, 8th in the city? That’s pretty good for a level 75 who was a total no name in the game a week ago.

“Drinking counts as doing something?”

“Its more than what half the city is doing.” you say.

“I guess that’s true.”

“So, what do you guys want to do with yourselves? Half of getting out there is having a goal after all.”

“I dunno.” AssAssIn says.

“I guess I want to be a hero.” Brolaire says as the party reaches the peak of the mountain. “I know its lame, but thats all I can really think of so far.”

“What’s lame about being a hero?”

“Well, everyone wants to be one.”

“That doesn’t mean its lame.” you encourage him. “So what if everyone wants to be one? How many of them are actually willing to put in the effort?”

“It’s definitely better than my plan” AssAssIn says.

“I guess that’s true.”

“Just keep going and I would bet you can do something great.” Somehow, you get the feeling that most people wouldn’t be able to say all that with a straight face. You guess you have a bit of an advantage their, after all, it is basically what you do best. Keep going on and on. Never stop running and eventually you will have to reach your destination.

“Alright. I’ll trust you on that. I’ll keep going until I can find my way to join heroes like you in the light of the sun.” he says with his back cast in the last of the always fading daylight of Portage.

“That was cheesy, but good on you.” AssAssIn says.

“I’m impressed that you managed to get something related to the sun in there. Good job.” Saya says giving him a thumbs up.

“The light of the Midnight Sun protects us all now. If only I could be so grossly incandescent.”
He says as you cross the line of the barrier and trudge on into the awaiting darkness.

Unfortunately my schedule right now is way too busy to run as much as I want to. Hopefully I will be able to pick up the pace again as I settle into a rhythm with school.
