You’re in the Bridge Between Worlds with Philonune by your side, talking to Athelone holding a tired Constance in her arms. How did this situation come to pass? Simple really, after dealing with Lise’s crazy parents – your team went with business as usual and took them to Athelone to remove their partners. For some reason (and an ability you didn’t know existed), she not only took them but left them in a coma state until the interdimensional war is over. Why? Because they broke an unwritten rule: Getting a demon without utilizing the regular process to do so... At least, that’s what Athelone told you. But you don’t really believe that’s the only reason, do you? You think she’s hiding something or maybe you’re just being paranoid. Regardless, the conversation continues:

“Is that everything you wanted me to answer? I would have thought you would simply be content with struggling for your survival, as before. Sometimes the answers you receive may not be what you want…”Athelone says, waiting for your answer.
“Wait, let me think…” You put your fingers in your chin, pretending to concentrate on what to ask, when you already know what's next…

Are you content with Athelone’s explanation from before, or it’s time to ask for the truth?

>“No, I don’t have any other questions.” Leave it be, maybe she’s telling the truth after all. And if not, you'll find out one way or another eventually…
>“Are you hiding something from us?” Be vague, you can't press for answers too much without details and evidence to back that up.
>“Was that the only reason Lise’s parents are in a coma? Are you sure there's nothing else going on? You can trust us.” Be direct! That’s how mature people deal with problems, other than sabotage and blackmail and general underhandedness! Wait, what?
>“Is your decision regarding Lise’s parents final? I feel like you’re being a little too harsh.” You believe her explanation, but you find her punishment way too strict. Maybe there's a workaround you can get her to go along with?

Votes are counted until 20 minutes have passed. This rule doesn't apply to the last reply of the day.

Dice Mechanic:

I use the average (the mean) of the 3 best rolls and success will be determined by the difficulty I specify for the action or prompt. If there are less than 3 rolls I’ll do the math with the ones I have.
Above 45 is a success on a normal roll. Above 55 is a success on a hard roll. The hardest rolls I won’t specify because I find it more fun if I don’t.
We will roll after the voting is done.

“Was that the only reason Lise’s parents are in a coma? Are you sure there’s nothing else going on? You can trust us.” You two forged a god damn contract together! You’re in this as a team!
“I made my case clearer yesterday, the new law has been written and it will be delivered to the contestants in the morning.” Athelone seems calm. “Not the answer were you looking for, right?”
“You've always been vicious, but mainly to our kind. So your answer leaves us with much to desire because we know you’re hiding something.” Philonune intervenes! He's been quiet for the most part, listening to the conversation go.
“Oh my… I thought the servants of God weren’t the thinking type.” She says this condescendingly, not even bothering to tone it down.
“Enough of your meaningless quips and answer us truthfully. We promised to protect you two, and we’re men of our word, so speak. But you aren't holding your end of the bargain, as it is.” Even Philo is getting tired of this shit.

“Very well… My decision may have looked harsh or rushed, but I have my reasons. But before I continue, I must say the explanation I gave you before isn’t an excuse for the punishment I gave, but the main reason I did it. Hopefully what I’m going to say is going two leave the two of you more satisfied.” Athelone looks serious, more than before. Philonune's straightforward criticism must have got to her. “First and foremost, those two are violent individuals with dangerous agendas to fulfill who are also close to Constance. I need to protect my little princess at all costs…”
“That I can believe, but if their parents were ripped off, wouldn’t that take away the danger?”

“Those two are affiliated with the people who made Constance’s parents disappear and left her in this state. Would I dare say they helped to do it? Were any of the two true perpetrators? That much I do not know, but their involvement isn’t in question.”
“…!” You didn’t know that. Why didn’t she tell you sooner? Was there something going on between Lise's parents and Constance's parents, even before this war?
“Not only did they commit such a heinous act, but what a laughable excuse for guardians they are, leaving my little girl to rot in a hospital bed alone… That so-called 'family'… That family brought so much pain to Constance. My point is, with or without their partners, they are callous individuals. If you really care about them, you should be thankful I didn’t kill them myself, or worse.” She continues to cradle Constance in her arms, but her expression is one of pure scorn. You would feel afraid if Philonune wasn't here to back you up.

>>
>>2245949

“Why didn’t tell us sooner?”
“I had suspicions of my own, but aside from that… Let’s leave this as one of those golden opportunities you shouldn’t let pass.”
“No, that’s not good enough.” Philonune seems angry unlike anything you've ever seen of him until now, his hands curled into fists. The smirk is wiped. “Suspicions? Weren’t you so sure of that just a second ago? Are you trying to deceive us?” His eyes are black holes, but you feel him looking over Athelone, watching her reactions like a bird of prey.
“Striking their own child was enough confirmation for me to act.”
“I see. I thought you were hiding something else. My mistake.” Philonune anger vanishes and his smile returns to how it was before, a complete 180 from what you were expecting!
“I understand.” Athelone has no ill feelings, and even she's starting to look a lot more… relieved? Content? You can't exactly tell.

That just raised even further questions! Maybe you should inquire about those subjects.

What do you do?

>Well, meeting is over! Guess everything important has been answered, and prodding Athelone further might cause her mood to sour more. If she really is hiding more from you, she's doing it too well for you to do much more at this point.
>“What happened to Constance? I want to know the full story." From what you remember of the terrorists' recordings, the Judges all selected extremely sick or disabled people to partner with on purpose, and Constance wasn't always like that. What gives?
>“Can you bring Lise’s dad back? If both parents are in a coma, I don’t know what is going to happen to Constance.” You have to face reality: Constance is still just a sickly kid, and Lise is still just a girl who lost her parents, even though they're alive in comes. There needs to be some good out of this whole thing!

Barring bringing the parents back, do you have any ideas about finding a guardian for both Constance and Lise? It wouldn't do to have you finish your job and bring Constance back to full health without someone who could take care of her properly until she's independent. Lise as well, considering that she'll be on her own now, thanks to us.

“So… What happened to Constance? I want to know the full story.” From what you remember of the terrorists' recordings, the Judges all selected extremely sick or disabled people to partner with on purpose, and Constance wasn't always like that. What gives?
“What a change of topic! I do not know the full extent of her story, and she has never told me the truth even though I repeatedly asked her... Unless you want to know what Constance life was since we became linked, I can help with that.”
“Sounds good.” You mentally brace for a story.
“I met her after her home burned down with her inside. Miraculously I saved her from the flames to completely consume her. After barely surviving in the hospital, your human government took care of her, and handed her from guardian to guardian to take care of her while her parents were ‘missing’. The couple you know as her guardians are just another duo that ended up with Constance. All about them being friends with her parents are nothing but a lie. Constance was so sick of being lonely she tried to escape, and while doing so, she collapsed in the reception… That’s when Dr. Calamity found her and helped her. He was the only one who stayed and asked her how she was, showed any decency. You know, like any 'human being' would have. Constance was too shy to say anything, but she wanted to go with the doctor.” Athelone barely goes into detail, maybe the whole situation was too monotonous for someone of her level. Or maybe she's trying to contain herself?

“Hold on, I thought she was afraid of Calamity! At least at some point…” Hell that’s the only reason you got to meet her, the clean-up job!
“You can blame the spirits for that, for some odd reason that clinic was infested, you remember? Even before we had arrived together, the walls were oozing with them.”
“Yeah I do.” And that was fucking spooky! Even Uccelli was afraid!
“Constance for some odd reasons was never disturbed out by them, but acted friendly to those fiends! The only way to keep them in check was for Constance to be quiet, every time she said anything the spirits started to roam… She didn’t want to bother Dr. Calamity. Eventually she started to ‘control’ them and they weren’t as problematic, but whenever she said something, they all would move around her. Too attached, I suppose.” She's still speaking in that listless monotone.
“I guess that explains something.” Not really, you barely care about that at this point! It was too long ago!
“Then you came here and hopefully you remember everything from that point on.”´
“Do I look like an idiot to you? Don't answer that.” Hopefully you do remember! Imagine someone tell you a vital piece of information and you forgetting! Wouldn’t that be terrible?

“Well, whenever you’re ready, go to the clinic and we will deal with the problems at hand. Your side ending up victorious is a must if I want Constance to survive. Until then… Farewell." The last thing you see is her casually waving with the set of arms not holding Constance, looking calm as ever. Almost too assured…

Suddenly, it’s a Thursday morning! She basically kicked you out! But you’re going out today with Uccelli, so you know what to do later!

You’re eating breakfast with Nariko, who, unlike any other day, is not really paying attention to her meal! Did you fuck up?

“What’s up Nariko?”
“I wanted to talk…”
“About what?”
“If I recover my memories, would you still be here for me?” She looks at you anxiously.
“What makes you ask that?” You take another bite as you say so.
“The way they described me, that doesn’t sound like me at all…” Nariko replies with anguish in her voice.
“Ehm…” You need to think this through; yesterday’s visit to the school may have made Nariko worry about her previous life.

How do you respond?

>“What makes you think you would care about me by then?” Let’s reverse the question! The only reason she's attached is because she doesn't have her memories. You have no idea how she'll be when/if she regains them!
>“I’m not planning on moving out, so probably.” It’s a non-issue really. Even if she remembers everything for real, as long as there aren't any memory fuckups she should still be okay with you and the others, right?
>“Aren’t you smart or something? You could probably figure out something then.” If she really is as smart as you found out from Matilda, then she might be strong enough to live her own way without your help! But there's still much you don't know…

“I’m not planning on moving out, so probably. As long as you still want to, we’ll be around. Plus I doubt you’d get Amelia to stop wanting to hang out.” That damn clingy sister of yours.
“…b-b-b-but—”
“Nariko, I doubt your old memories would just erase the ones you made with Amelia, Matilda and I, and everyone else, unless you didn’t like them… Er… You do like the memories you made right?”
“…” She quickly nods like Amelia usually does. Of all the pesky traits of your sister, that’s the one she picked up? She probably remembered all the great things you two did together like eating lunch… And watch TV… And eating dinner…? Did you ever do something interesting with Nariko? At least the other two girls did…
“See, it’s not an issue really! We all care about you, Nariko. Hopefully you will care about us later too.” She has been closer to you and Amelia than your useless dad ever was. It’s not like Amelia was his daughter, but still!
“…Thank you.” Nariko smiles! You have never seen her smile like that, except if it was related to food! “I’m very h-happy, I’ll never forget how happy I am!” She says that resolutely! You're feeling good too, Nariko's joy is contagious!

After preparing Nariko’s lunch, you went to school. Nariko hugged you awkwardly before you left the building, it’s almost like she forgot how hugs work. It was so quick you barely enjoyed it even though she did. Well, it’s a hug, it’s not like you can take too much out of one.

When you arrive at school, you see on the mainboard the results from the exams. It has always weirded you out, the fact everyone knows your score, but you never thought much about it. You've always been mediocre, maybe a little behind the middle of the average — but that's before you decided to do your best that fateful day, and look at you now! No special painful summer classes for you! Well, your score left you in… woah, you’re 12th in the whole school! You beat 288 people! That’s a great accomplishment! Your ego stat went up! Green Foothill isn’t known for having the smartest people, but you’re almost top of the league anyway! Let’s see how everyone else fared:

>Terry is 42th. Not bad at all.
>Scarlet is 96th. Hey, that could have been way worse!
>Matilda is not in the same grade as you, but she was 4th. You expected as much from someone like her.
>Soh Futaki? That name rings a bell but you don’t remember from where, he’s in the same grade as Matilda and was 113th, that’s kinda bad.
>Howie Dewitt, what a dumb name! What kind of fucking loser is named Howie Dewitt, seriously!? And look at him! 281th! What a dumbass! He’s going to summer classes for sure!
>Nia Sambou, isn’t that Scarlet’s friend? Well, she’s 278th. Looks like she's going to the dreaded summer camp too.

…Why did you bother reading all of them!? Time to go to classes! School was normal today, except for the fact Matilda asked for her super meal! You just gave her some leftovers from what you gave to Nariko. Matilda was not pleased until she ate some and then didn’t seem to mind that much. Your cooking has definitely seen improvement.

During the day you notice Scarlet was absent! Terry told you since yesterday after the scores were revealed that Scarlet completely disappeared… And by 'disappeared' he means she shut herself inside her room. Terry believes she’s trying to escape her fate – she did lose after all. Maybe you should look into it later, see what you can do.

Classes are done and gone! Time to meet up with Uccelli! It’s a date… Right? Or just the two of you hanging out. You are sure Uccelli doesn’t have any money to spend, so maybe she doesn’t mind being a little more reserved.

Where do you want to go with your girlfriend?

>To your apartment! Why bother getting somewhere fancier and wasting your money? Your bedroom is all you'll need! :^)

You have the fight tomorrow, but you know neglecting your girlfriend desires will backfire eventually… Maybe you could compromise and do both! Let’s get to the gym with Nina and ruin every bit of progress with cake afterwards! Genius! She liked that cake you bought at the store that one time… Anyway, to the station! Uccelli is waiting for you with a sport bag by the side; she did say she would bring clothes to spare yesterday.

“Finally you got here, Ando. Let’s move before more students arrive and I have to pretend I’m someone else.” Uccelli stands up, as soon as she tries to lift her bag, you take it away from her and carry it yourself like a true gent. “T-thanks.” She seems impressed by how easily you lift it. You should thank Trent by winning the fight when the time comes.
“You’re welcome.”
“Let’s get moving so we can talk at ease.” She smiles. She looks so excited, hopefully you won’t fuck this up.

The train arrives and the two of you get inside. You explain your plan for today’s date! It isn’t much of a date, but the two of you passing the time together is still really romantic. She seems a little bothered by the idea, just wanting to relax with you today – but the fight greatly worries her, so she accepts. At least this time she has her workout clothes!

“From not doing any exercises in months to do it two days in a row, you’re making big changes in my life already. Honestly, I thought I would be the one making the changes.”
“You’re going to get cake later anyway, so…”
That I’m looking forward to.” She smiles back at that, in spite of herself.

You two get to the gym Trent introduced you to. After changing clothes you’re ready for exercise!
“Not bad, not bad at all.”
“Johnny…” She seems annoyed.
“What? I can’t find my hot girlfriend hot?” You easily say that with level 3 courage.
“D-d-d-don’t say that out loud! You’re embarrassing me…”
“You’re so cute when you get flustered.” Now this is just you being cheeky. Doesn't make it any less true.
“And you’re cuter when you keep your mouth shut.” Her teacher voice is back! “N-now let’s exercise or whatever…”
And there you go! You tried to give more of your fighting knowledge to your girlfriend, Philonune actually whispering you pointers at times; she’s not really that good! At some point, the exercise was too much for Uccelli and she settled down and watched you amazed… Maybe she’s watching hypnotized like you watched her yesterday. Well, that was a good workout session! You gain 3 Athletic Points! You still need more than double the points you have now to reach the next level, but it’s something!

You two left the gym and went to your apartment. Uccelli is beyond beat, her body hurts everywhere… When you arrived at your apartment and said hi to Nariko, Nina basically collapsed on the couch. You tell her you’re going to buy the cake you promised but she barely responded. Is her physical condition that bad? Well, if you keep working out with her, it will eventually get better. Yours did, after all.

You came back with the somewhat expensive cake from a while ago, Nariko still sitting watching TV. From the narration going on, you see she moved to watch documentaries now… You wonder what the effects are going to be on her. Anyway, you asked Nariko where Uccelli was and she told she’s taking a shower.

You still have Nariko here, and you unless you want a comfy time with the two of you, you need to figure out a way to take Nariko out of the equation…

What do you do?

>Let Nariko stay! Uccelli is beat so you don’t think anything interesting is going to happen today, maybe tomorrow you could celebrate after your victory!
>Call Amelia! She can take Nariko out for a nice walk or something else. That’s what friends do! They bail each other out when they need to be bailed out, right?
>Call Matilda! She should be getting used to it, and with a slightly generous fee from you, there won’t be questions. She probably suspects already, but she won't care.
>Call Osgood, he owes you two. Maybe his arm is a little better enough to help out with this little thing? He hasn't even seen or spent that much time with Nariko unlike the others, so this should go towards establishing Nariko's memories further.

Also, that is some top notch exercise fashion Nina's wearing.

Uccelli seems too tired to do anything worthwhile, so you don’t need to get rid of Nariko, at least today.

“What do you have there…?” Nariko just realizes the existence of your purchase.
“This? It’s cake, do you like cake?”
“Did you make it?” No hesitation at all.
“No.” Is she even paying attention? You told her you were going to get cake!
“Then probably not.” She turns around and keeps watching her documentary. It’s about the wildlife in the countryside… So dull.
“Don’t say that before having a bite.” I mean, both Uccelli and Amelia loved it! This strawberry cake is great, and you know this from experience.
“S-sorry…”

A few minutes later, Uccelli comes out of the bathroom with a big cloud of steam behind her; you can tell she relaxed quite a bit…

“Sorry I took my time, I needed that. You have no idea how good it feels to enjoy a nice bath with hot water.” She’s brushing her hair, looking prettier than she did before. You try not to get too distracted.
“I bought your cake.”
“I-I don’t really feel like I should eat it, I don’t want all this exercise go to waste.” She says that, but she’s buried on the couch next to Nariko with her eyes sparkling for a treat.
“Alright, no point in wasting food.” That was quick. “Just a little piece.” It didn’t end up being a little one…

And the three of you ate cake together! Nariko didn’t seem to enjoy it too much, reminds you of Matilda’s reaction to the meal you gave her today. On the other hand, Uccelli seems to be all sunshine and rainbows while eating the dessert… You can tell she often doesn’t get to eat expensive cake like this, and while it’s technically not that expensive, it’s so small it might as well be.
During your meal, Nariko expressed her desire to visit a museum… Why? You don’t know and she doesn’t know either, maybe a documentary piqued her interest! But hey, that’s more initiative than she has ever shown before.
After eating the cake and shortly after having dinner with Uccelli, you have nothing else to do! Your girlfriend is already looking very sleepy – but it’s not really time to sleep yet…

“I-I’m sorry, I’m so tired right now. I can stay the night here, right? I can go to my friend’s place otherwise.” She’s already wearing what you presume is what she uses for pyjamas. It's a basic white shirt and pants with grey diagonal stripes. Pretty stylish.
“Have I ever kicked you out before?” You raise an eyebrow. “Besides, I like the view.” You can't help but smirk when you say this.
“D-don’t say embarrassing things while I’m sleepy… You know I can’t answer back like thiiiiis…” She yawns widely and loudly.
“It’s cute.”
“Johnny, could you put a videogame on for me…?” Nariko holds your shirt like a little girl would.

You have enough time left for you to do something else! Sadly, everyone here has their eyes set on something…

“Alright Nariko, but don’t stay up too late, okay? It’s unhealthy.”
“Mhm.” She nods back. You turn on the console… Amelia left the game disk inside the console, how irresponsible. “That’s the one I want to play.” The screen displays the game that's still inside.
“Alright, have fun.” You hand her the controller. “You want to go to the museum, right? Maybe we could go one of these days.”
“Really?!” She got too excited too suddenly, and almost fell out of her seat!
“AH!” Uccelli got scared!
“S-sorry.”
“Don’t worry, I should have been under sheeeeets by now.” Uccelli yawns loudly yet again.
“Yes, Nariko. Really.” You adjust your glasses, and can't help but smile back. She's starting to grow on you more now.
“I’m free whenever!” If she was a dog, her tail would have been wagging right now!
“Maybe Sunday, then.” You don’t remember anything you had to do by then. “Now, talking about sleeping… I’ll go with you.” You raise an eyebrow at Uccelli as you tell her this.
“B-b-but I’m going to sleep and Nariko is here and—” She gets too flustered but you interrupt her.
“I’m going to sleep early today too. Remember the fight? You don't want it to be like the last fight I was in.”
“Oh! O-of course!” She extends her hands to you, wanting you to help her get up, and you do so. “Night Nariko.” Uccelli touches Nariko’s shoulder as she says it.
“Night…” Is she drooling? She's already into the game and she hasn’t even started to play yet!
“…Remember what I told you about staying up late.”
“…” No response except for the drool to lengthen. Well, what else could you do? Time to get moving!

“W-we’re going to sleep in the same room?” Nina blushes almost as much as she did when you confessed to her.
“Yeah, is that problem? Is my bed too small?”
“I-I like it this way.” She hugs you from the waist. It feels really nice…
The two of you finally get to your humble room. Uccelli plummets on your bed and abruptly starts dozing off! She’s sleeping on the wrong side, so you had to move her… She weights far less than you expected, maybe it’s your exercise doing wonders… or hers! Either way, time to sleep. So little space for you to do so, but you make do with what you have, along with using Uccelli as a cushion…

It’s a regular Friday morning. You feel the pressure of the upcoming battle, but it doesn't affect you as much. That sleep was a lot better than what you had the past few days alone, you definitely feel refreshed! Uccelli is not next to you again, but a familiar smell tells you everything.

“Breakfast is ready!” Uccelli yells from the kitchen. She’s all a housewife and you two have barely been dating! It’s not something that she hides anyway, and she doesn’t seem to mind cooking or doing house chores. And the two of you answer her call and eat breakfast together! You can tell Nina’s body is sore right now, her movements a little slower. Oh, and Nariko is a bit disappointed about her meal — again.

“I’ll make something you would love one of these days.” Uccelli resolution shows as she takes a sip of her coffee. You prefer her cooking over yours, since she knows what she’s doing, but Nariko just frowns.
“You could just let Johnny cook…” Nariko replies, hurting Uccelli’s ego. You’re almost completely sure she’s just biased to you.

After preparing everything for the day and telling Nariko to be a good girl, you and Uccelli left the apartment. Just to make things clear, everyone will be ready to back you up if you need to call for help. Osgood and Amelia will be near the perimeter in the van, while Uccelli will be the only one sneaking around to make sure everything is fine and doing the emergency call if you get knocked out or something. You needed to have the van in place so we can quickly get this masked man to Constance and remove his flame. You wanted to keep their profiles low because you didn't want to spook the mysterious man into escaping.
During the day, nothing out of the ordinary went on… Except, once again, Scarlet was nowhere to be found! Terry said she called her parents and confirmed she indeed shut herself in her room… It appears it’s a normal occurrence because Terry doesn’t sound troubled at all. Before classes you checked your phone, and you have multiple messages. The only one you care about is Trent’s:

“I’m outside.”

School is done! Time to beat a stranger in a fight you have nothing to do with! Before you could leave the room, Terry asks for a minute of your time…
“Hey man, can you help me deal with Scarlet?” Terry looks like he doesn’t want to deal with this shit anymore. He was fine with it earlier in the day, now he's just annoyed.
“The shut-in thing?” You want to make sure he means that and not something completely different.
“Yup, her parents are worried and her friend Nia didn't want to help. Seems tired of Scarlet’s antics too. Seeing a friendly face is going to do wonders, so please help me out.” As cordial and straightforward as ever. You could almost swear he doesn't give a shit about Scarlet with that sort of tone, but you know better.
“Uhm…” He helped you out once, maybe you could return the favor. Although the fight is definitely more important than a little girl’s tantrum, going by how Trent described the guy destroying his gang.

“I’m free tomorrow, I’ll give you a call.” Too busy today for obvious reasons.
“That’s good for me too; I didn’t want to rush to my job after pampering her. Besides she’s not going anywhere.” He said that so casually… He checks his phone’s clock, showing mild disinterest in his own idea. “Hmm… I think I have enough time to tidy up the art club classroom for you know what. You seem quite busy as well, hopefully I didn’t take much of your time – I’ll see you tomorrow.” Terry leaves relieved about not dealing with the situation today.
“Take care.” You wave him off. You feel like taking care of Scarlet is more of a job than anything to him. But after having heard his story that one time, you know there's more to it than that…

It’s finally time for the most anticipated fight of your life… so far! You quickly scramble down the stairs and leave the building. Outside the gate, Trent is there waiting for you and frowning at anyone who gets near him – he’s carrying a huge flag on his shoulder and looking more delinquent-esque than ever. You walk up to him fearlessly, already used to him being this way.

“S’up…” He starts gathering everyone’s attention the moment he notices, then turns back to you.
“Ready to fuck shit up?" He smirks, as hype about this as you are, though you don't show it. As he looks at you, his expression shifts to one of slight annoyance. "Whoa whoa whoa, hold the fuck up!”
“What?”
“You can’t go to the fight lookin' like that! Here take this.” He pulls something out of a pocket and tosses it to you.
“What’s that?” It's a plain red shirt with white sleeves.
“Yeah, wear it, you’re representing my territory today – so you gotta look like one of us.” It’s like the sport version of Trent’s highschool shirt. Looks and feels comfy. “We’re fightin' at the empty lot near my school. There are shops there – but the owners don’t give a fuck about us. So don’ worry about gettin’ spotted with your ghost shit.” That almost sounds like he thought about it. Almost.
“Ehm…” You feel like you need to say something. But what?

Do you have anything to say?

>Activate sunglasses mode and put the shirt on. It’s like a disguise… Sort of! Besides, you never know what sort of bullshit this other guy will try to pull, maybe even before the fight proper. It could be light-related for all you know!
>“I’m not wearing your dirty t-shirt.” Green Foothill high school for life, yo.

“Ehm what? Scared?”
“You think this shit'll scare me? Not even you could keep me down, remember?” You swap shirts and activate sunglasses mode while trailing behind Trent, grinning. You're starting to embrace the hype, slowly but surely.
“That’s what I wanted to hear.” He smirks as he keeps walking.
“Got a toothpick I can put between my teeth so I can look like a hardass?”
“No.” That was a quick response…
“…Okay. Also, what’s with that flag?” It's red like your shirts, but with Trent's school emblem in white, dead center. Simple and straightforward.
“If we’re going to kick that piece of trash’s ass, the world needs to know we did it. Besides, we always do this when we get into the big fights. Those brawls where you can't tell who the fuck is on your side half the time.”
“Not gonna lie, that's kinda cool.”

You two take the train to the middle of the city! The Grand Hospital is near, so you have that if everything falls apart in the worst way. It wasn’t exactly hard to find, but you end up here in the empty lot. The whole place feels more like an abandoned plaza than anything, but you see a few people in the shops and a few more walking about, some looking towards your group with faces you can't make out from here. The fighting area is the ruins of a building in the dead center of the plaza, all the shops facing forward at it, busy main streets several blocks away in three directions with the Grand Hospital's the other way. You can't tell if the building ever existed but fell apart to this, or it wasn't even constructed to begin with – always random foundation, girders, rubble and furniture, sitting out here in the open for years. At least all this can make for good cover…

“The scumbag is taking his damn time.” Trent is sitting on a broken chair he found as he stares at the clouds.
“Maybe he pussied out?” You keep looking around the area. There's three paths out of here that you can see: the way you came in leading back to the train station, the way leading to the Grand Hospital, and an alleyway going a different direction.
“Yeah, after taking out dozens of us, I doubt it.”
“I’m no coward.” And there he is! The mysterious man wearing something like a wrestler's mask with the top cut-out! He’s a little shorter than you, but barely. He looks tough and probably is in better condition, but doesn’t look that much older than you. A black flame surrounds his left ear, poking out from a hole cut out the mask. “How many times have I told you to quit it? I’m trying to clean up the school from people like you.” He sounds like a regular dude, nothing like how you imagined.

[1/2]
>>
>>2255731

“Like me? You have no idea how much of a mess you left, you stupid motherfucker!” Trent looks extremely irritated, almost indignant, hands clenched into fists shaking slightly in controlled fury.
“If it has anything to do with you or others like you, it can’t be any good.”
“Shut it, you know what’s going on! 1v1 this guy, no interference. I’m a man of my word, ya know?” Trent grins savagely at the masked man.
“No offense, but even if you dress up a nerd as a thug, he’s still a nerd. I know this is a trap, but I’m willing to give one more lesson to you.” He looks at you dismissively before turning back to Trent.
“Shut up already! Let’s go, fight.” Trent is almost embarrassed in the way the other guy talks. You don’t really understand why; maybe he finds it cringy? Anyway, he gets up out of the chair and walks to a spot off to the side, between you and the wrestler dude, lying back against the wall with his flag.

“Hold up!" The luchador turns to you, looking confused for the first time. "Why are you doing this? Don't you understand the situation you’re in? If you’re here because he threatened you, I’ll back you up – don’t worry.” He seems like a nice fella, but the underworld is a dangerous, deceitful place… Maybe this is all a trap of his own!

How do you respond?

>“Sorry Trent. But he doesn’t look like an asshole to me…” Why are you helping this bully again? There is absolutely nothing for you to gain. Or is there? (No fight… Maybe?)

“The reason I’m here because I thought you were evil or worse… Still, it’s not really personal, I just made a promise – so let’s have a good fight.” You stand firm ready for a fight, but can't resist beckoning him forward.
“…So this must be a trap then.” He lunges forward ready to attack, like he’s some type of boxer – but there is something about him that looks clumsy, yet reckless.

Despite whatever is clumsy about him, you barely evaded the first punch he threw at you, he’s fast! You’re at his side now.
“Stop staring and punch!” Trent is acting like your coach, and he’s right! You should have used that opportunity to attack.

Quickly your opponent tries a new jab, and you block him with your arms – it hurts a bit, but nothing major. Trent is a dirty fighter, so even though you feel like you’re more honorable, you’re going to use the tricks you know. You go for a kick to the stomach and land it! The hombre enmascarado holds his stomach, and you use this to follow up with a backhanded fist to the side of his face! He lurches back with the hit, then rolls away to put distance between you, being poked at by rocks and rubble as he does so. You made quite the impact so far!

“Shit, why are these random thugs so fucking tough?” He whispers to himself, and you catch it.
“Johnny, he does the ghost thing when he scratches his ears! Stop him! Don’t give him time to recover!” Trent just wants for you to fuck him up. Better neutralize him before you get into a demon slap-fight.
“For somebody with so many fights and victories under his belt, he seems to lack true experience.” Philoune says like a disappointed teacher, guess something from Uccelli rubbed off on him. "He's done nothing but charge at you head on repeatedly, like a fool. There must be something else going on here…!"

“…” The luchador stares at you like he's planning his next move... Slowly his hand gets closer to his ear, him trying to thinly disguise it as raising his arms for a stance, but you notice it. For someone so honorable, he appears to rely on his partner way too much. You used to be that way too, but you've become capable yourself! It appears he has no clue you have your own flame, so he’s trying to use his own strength to fight you - but that could change any second now.

Why are you here, Johnny Ando? To Fight honorably or to win? It’s time to make a decision…

What do you do?

Time to stare menacingly at each other while it appears like we're doing nothing from Trent's POV.

“Don’t do that, not now.” You tell the masked man as he tries to reach for his ear.
“Eh…? You can't possibly…” He's lost concentration! It’s your moment… But you’re not going to take full advantage.

It’s time for you to take the initiative here, so you move forward with the intention knocking his lights out. It’s kind of sad really; Trent is ten times tougher than this guy, but because he has a partner he’s able to beat everyone… What a dilemma, the evil guy plays fair and the good guy cheats! Now let’s show him what the guy who tries his best can do! You walk, almost saunter casually up to his face, and…

“Ngh?!”
“Nice!” Trent bobs his head and shoots you a thumbs-up!

You break the luchador's fragile boxing defense with one powerful and unerring uppercut to the jaw! Like a professional boxer who is tired of an underwhelming rival, you put what you think is enough power to leave him on the ground! The sounds of the impact are nasty, your opponent's legs wobble and he actually rises up off the ground an inch or so before collapsing face first! It’s like you copied something you watched on TV than anything Trent taught you. A clean victory that literally came out of nowhere, one of the easiest so far too… The wrestler is twitching on the ground, nose bleeding a little from faceplanting, though he managed to block most of his fall in time to avoid too much injury. He’s trying to reach for his ear with one hand. You put your foot on his arm, and can't help but to smile a little…

“Stop. It’s over.”
“That’s it? You were the who one beat us all the fucking time? Guess your ghost shit isn’t good enough now, eh? Give me a fucking break, this is pathetic!” Trent gets up and raises his flag in the air as he gets near the two. “Can you hear me, you worthless piece of shit?” Trent kicks the masked man on his side.
“Ah..!!” He screams in pain.
“Guess you can't, huh? You thought this was fucking funny?! You thought this was a fucking game?! How does it feel to get put in your place!?” He kicks him again…

Trent is out of control. You get his anger somewhat, the luchador probably beat the shit out of his friends –
But still, he’s not the bad guy…

What do you do?

>“Cut the crap, you idiot. The guy already lost.” Push Trent away, the masked man is not a bad person at all. The job is done, and Trent isn't your boss anymore.
>"Talk. Why did you start doing all this in the first place? I want answers." Crouch down and talk to the luchador up-front. Wave Trent off, he's not helping.
>“You feel good now? There are punching bags in the gym, you know?” Calm him down. Trent got what he wanted, now you can make him leave.
>Take the luchador to the Grand Hospital! Now he needs medical attention!
>Write In.

“Oi, Trent! I know he's caused a ton of problems for you, but I need to talk to him about the terrorists. Could you let up?"
“Yeah, yeah...” Trent calms down and takes a stap back, but keeps staring at the masked man.
“You feel good now? There are punching bags in the gym, you know?”
“I’m just teaching him a lesson. If he didn’t lose to us – he wouldn’t have the time to regret his decision.” ‘Us’? You did all the work!
“What fucking lesson could anyone learn by being kicked while they're down, Trent?!” You turn and glare at him. He meets your gaze evenly, unmoved.
“He won’t do anything this stupid again. Bruises are better reminders than dull speeches.” Wouldn’t that create the exact opposite message? Like a craving for revenge, just like what led Trent to getting your help?
“I have my doubts, but move over there – I’m going to talk to him…” You crouch down. Trent shrugs and goes back to his broken chair. “Are you okay?”
“Aaah… No…” He replies in anguish. Not your smartest question, but good enough to know he’s still conscious.
“Then talk. Why did you start doing all this in the first place? I want answers.”

“What's your plan here…?” He tries to recuperate, but the damage to his jaw and stomach are too much for him to handle all at once, and he just settles for staying down.
“I said I want answers.”
“Bro, then don’t aim for the jaw… It’s hard to talk like this, ya know?” He… jokes? What a weird fellow, he’s an idiot masked vigilante through and through!
“So…”
“So what? I just tried to help people, what else could I be doing?” He moves his shoulders in a stiff shrug.
“So we lost everything because a psycho tried to play superhero? What a shitty joke.” Trent says, back at the wall with the flag. Two superheroes, Trent – Wildflame and Captain Failure here.
“It’s that all…?” You ask the defeated fighter, eyebrow raised. He looks back up at you from the ground.
“Wouldn’t you do the same if you saw someone else in danger…? I mean, you look like a nerd, so I wouldn’t be surprised if you ran away most of the time – but I know deep down you want to help people, right? You’re not like him. I know that.” Is he trying to manipulate you, or is he legitimately a good person? Either way, he sounds pretty condescending right about now.

You feel there's more to his story, but nothing really screams to you that he has any important information or ulterior motives. Anyway, he still has a flame and you have to deal with it.

What do you do?

>Assemble the team! You’re taking him to Calamity’s clinic. Maybe he will feel less threatened there and will answer more thoughtfully. Of course, Trent is not coming.
>Take him to the Grand Hospital by yourself! Don’t need to make the situation any messier by having everyone come in, just the two of you is enough.

“You really think fighting a bunch of hooligans is helping people when the country is in the situation it is?”
“Better than standing idly by to watch…”
“Alright, let’s get you checked out by a doctor.” You take your phone out and made a quick call to assemble the team, and you briefly tell them what happened! You make sure to remind everyone to be disguised. “Listen, dude, I need to talk to you and your partner about the contest. I’m bringing you to a clinic that I work at sometimes, along with some buddies I know. I just want to talk to you about your partner and his goals.”
“…I don’t think I have much of a choice, do I?” He says, closing his eyes in resignation.
“Yeah, but don’t worry.”
“So you’re dealing with him yourself? Alright!” Trent stands up holding his flag. “What an underwhelming battle for this baby to witness for the last time.”
“Last time?"
“I’m not leading a group of little bitches anymore, so I’ll do my own thing from now on. Johnny, if you ever need backup, you know who to call.” He walks past the two of you, patting your shoulder briefly before leaving. Probably to be never seen again… Unless you give him a call, but why would you do that? “It’s so fuckin’ hot today, god fuckin' damn…” He takes his jacket off and walks towards the sunset, carrying his flag proudly like a badge of honor.
"There goes a fellow warrior, Johnny. He may not have been too honorable or smart, but he knew how to fight well enough…" Philonune quips in a reverent voice, almost bordering on mocking. He pulls himself off of your glasses, and goes back to his usual floating flame form by your side.

Eventually, Osgood’s van arrives from the way you came! Amelia and Osgood are in there, while Uccelli promptly appears from the side alley near the battle zone. The fatso is nowhere to be found. And like you asked, everyone is using a mask or something to disguise themselves.

“It looks like you guys are going to behead me or something…” The luchador chuckles nervously.
“If you hurt him, I probably will.” Amelia replies menacingly, with no sign of jesting, pointing at you. The masked man is too cowed to respond.
“I told you not to worry. Look at how small and non-threating she is.” You pat Amelia on the head while she closes her eyes in cute pleasure.
“Who cares? Just get in and we’ll get you to the clinic.” Osgood dismisses the masked man worries with a bored hand-wave. Uccelli just stares at him silently.
“We do look creepy in a weird way.” Now that you think about it, maybe it's the masks. But hey, they do the job!

In the back of the van, you and Amelia have your eyes on the masked man between you, while Uccelli and Osgood are at the front. The van gets moving and you're all on your way to Calamity!
>>
>>2258064

“Well, uh… This is pretty awkward.” The masked man couldn’t contain himself even with his injuries keeping him quiet. “I mean the trip is way longer than I expected and you all being silent freaks me out.”
“We patched you up, what else do you want?” Amelia replies curtly, elbowing the luchador's side a little.
“It’s still weird, yo.” He winces at the pain, but keeps his composure.
“Don’t ‘yo’ me, mister.” Amelia says, gritting her teeth. She really doesn’t like the people that try to hurt you!
“We’re almost there. Just try not to disturb your injuries too much.” Uccelli tries to calm him down, and it works. Meanwhile Osgood focuses on the road, driving expertly through the lessening late-afternoon traffic.

It’s true, you’re close to your home and therefore the clinic... Maybe you should be thinking about how to proceed from here…

>Just get rid of his flame and kick him out. Well, kick him out AFTER Calamity does his job as a doctor. Can't exactly abandon the guy while he's still injured!
>Ask him and his partner about which side they're on. He won't dare to try anything in the car with the rest of you here – not if he wants to be in a car accident on top of the ass-kicking you gave him!
>Take off his mask! You need to know his real identity, and knowing who he is will give you leverage over him so he doesn't try anything anymore!

(I’m feeling sick right now, so let’s end here for the thread. Sorry for the shit drawing.)

“So tell me straight: which side are you and your partner on?” You ask now that you have something like a conversation going. You turn to him and look him in the eyes as you ask this, and he seems to calm down more.
“The good side. The right side.” The masked man replies with conviction. How many times have you heard that before? And every time you did, it was always a lie, every damn time. Everybody believes they're right and just in this fucking war! “We’re going to try to keep everyone safe.”
“I mean, in the war. You know about the different factions, right?”
“Yes, we’re not siding with the Creator or Chernobog. We two are all on our own.” Oh wow, finally someone who knows what’s up. You gotta admit the guy has guts for going at it alone with his partner.
“You think you can win?” Amelia asks almost mockingly.
“Yes, we have no other option.”
“You sound all heroic, but you know it's not exactly fair play to fight normal people with your partner. I gotta admit that Trent's no saint, but we're still talking beings that can flip cars and throw humans like ragdolls, on top of other fucked up shit. You're lucky you didn't kill anyone like that, accident or otherwise. Doubly lucky that the police didn't cotton on to you either; especially since their boss was a white flame user." You just let him have it as brutally honest as you can get, and you see the shock and realization dawn on his bruised face as you do so.
“I didn't know that! But I had to take matters in my own hands and use everything I have, like I told you. I did everything in my power to protect people.” Didn’t he leave a bunch of Trent’s minions in the hospital? Is that really protecting people?
“From what I know, maybe you went a little overboard…” You reply evenly. His conviction stays on his face, but you see him look down a little bit, expression softening to something like regret. Then the car stops and you're parked at Calamity's parking lot.

“Alright, we're here! Time to move!” Osgood tells the crew, pulling his key out the ignition and sliding out the door.
“The good doctor will check on you now. Try to be careful on your way out.” Uccelli tells the masked man as she also gets out and makes for the clinic door.
“Once he helps you out we'll keep talking, so take it easy.” You reassure him.
“I’m so confused right now.”
“Just move.” Amelia is still fuming as she shoves the door open and jumps out.

After helping him inside and leave him to the proper care of Doctor Calamity, you could only wait now… Sadly this is all what we have for this thread, thanks for playing!

Thanks everyone for keeping up with this week thread, because it was kind of a fiasco thanks to the site issues.

Sadly no cool drawing this week, but I drew Amelia with her OG hairstyle! Which one do you prefer?

Please tell what character you would like to see drawn too, so I at least can have something for the next thread.

Questions/Feedback/Comments/Drawing ideas (please) and the like are always welcome and encouraged.

If you want updates about the quest:

We will most likely return this Sunday (28th) in a brand new thread. Small chance we could start this Saturday, but I don’t want to commit now.
