/qst/ - Quests

Last time on Monster quest, our Dron awoke on a Daguran airship after a near fatal encounter with a Blade of the Prince. They discovered Snow, and the nature of both their seeming betrayal and the presence of the Dagura. Now, after establishing dominance among a small group of Dron they had freed, our Dron is now A Baron, and prepares to take their first steps into a new world.

You hear your chitin cracks, and your muscle stretch as for the first time you use them. Breathing in the air with new lungs, you look upon a much smaller world With anticipation.

>Royal, Royal....

The Flying Dron circles around your head before landing on your offered arm, feeling light as it came to rest.

Both Dron looked upon you, expecting a descision. You felt an instinctual appreciation for the sight.

Building on your knowledge, you soon decipher how to manipulate the lighting through out the entirty of the ship, as well as finding something called the "Administrator Command Console" somewhere at the very front of the ship.

As soon as you entered, the two Dron rushed over towards you, smelling the succulent meat you had brought back with you. They bounced and hovered around you, before giving chase as you tossed the meat to the ground for them to eat, happy clicks and squeaks heard from them as they devoured the meal.

Looking around the room, you got an odd feeling, electricity tickling your spine as some weight.

Success

After a short time of trying to figure out what that feeling was, you turn completely towards the window that peered into the room beyond, and saw him.

The Dagura who you had seen talking to snow back at the colony, watching you with a emotionless glare. He slowly scanned the cracks that had been made into the window by the Screching Dron, and then looked towards Snow’s cacoon, looking irritated for a breath second before returning his gaze to you.

He tapped something at the base of the window, and then seemed to speak through the walls of Snow’s room.

“Well, seems the Dron are just full of surprises. Tell me, how did you get onto my ship? Was it the loading crew? Or perhaps an ambitious chef? Maybe a curious noble? Please tell, I need to know whose skull I have to shatter.”

The man listened impassively, then pinched the bridge of his nose as he let out a sigh “Looks like i’ll Have to spend the next few days interrogating the entire crew. Just what I wanted to do on what should have been a few days of relaxation.” He said, snapping his fingers twice, summoning a large golem in black armor with what appeared to be tubes coming from its back and connecting to its hands.

“First off, pest control. While I appreciate you being a somewhat respectable guest, you and your kind are still nothing but vermin to me. And now that the three hundred of your wretched kind I requested is no longer possible, thanks to your little jail break, I think I’ve had enough of your presense. Purifier: Leave nothing alive in that room.” He said, and turned to leave as the Purifier began to bash against the sealed door.

“It is unfortunate My Lord Ryalkos won’t be able to see his dear friend Snow again, though after they proved to be nothing but a savage traitor, i’m Sure he’ll understand my Descision. Maybe he’ll even put in a recommendation...”

The man’s voice faded a she exited he room, and only the sound of the Golem bashing against the door was heard.

Pushing your mind to its limits, you manage to crack just how to not only navigate into the Golem control, but also figure out how to interact with the program. It showed the location of all the Golems on the ship, with a silver colored flame icon just outside the Engine room.

With a quick stroke of the keys, you hear a sudden stop in the tearing of metal. The golem has stopped, standing straight and standing perfectly still as if a statue.

>Golem Biohazard Unit, Designation: Purifier, deactivated.

Things calmed, and you began to take a deep breath, before a voice from the ceiling came out "Hmm, a beast learning to finer arts of working with Daguran artifacts? No wonder Lord Ryalkos is so fond of your kind. However, I have officially worn out of patience. Vesety."

"Ther ehas been a breach in security. Verify Lord Rylakos' location."

"That'll be all. Oh wait, inform the passengers that cocktail will be served in an hour as we pass over the dwarven city of Doken. I'm sure they'll appreciate looking down on those rock humping brutes."

>Understood My lord.

"Well, I suppose even with limited powers now, that Biohazard unit is still under your direct control. No matter, the servitors will have no problem with that. Now if you would kindly die, that would be just lovely."

The voice faded, and then the console screen dimmed, leaving only the window to interact with the Purifier.

Acting quick, you revive the golem and redefine its mission. Prevent outside agents from entering the Engineering room. Lethal force authorized.

With that, you looked at what you had available to you. A Flying dron, who seemed to be hiding on a tall machine. A dron that could screech powerful sonic attacks that seemed able to perhaps give golems a shove. And a 15 foot tall cacoon containing Snow, a Dron you had an unsure relationship with.

Rather precarious position, but if your homeland had taught you anything, things could always be worse.

You decide to make your stand, as the Engine room seemed pretty defendable and also had key systems that were to important to allow damage. Ilan wouldn’t risk crashing the ship just to kill you, you think.

Currently there is two ways to enter the room.

First: There is the door Ilan left, which leads to a connecting hall way and the rest of the ship. There is a room it leads to, before leading to the Engine room. A strong window, and a half way torn away door seperate the two rooms.

Second: A vent large enough to fit snow, who stands about two thirds the height of a Dagura. It is a vertical climb from the vent nexus, with entrances to said nexus spread all over the ship.

You have about ten minutes before the Golems arrived

There are several machines in the room, as well as machines, containers, and furniture in the room between the Engine room and the hall way Ilan exited through.

With the limited amount of time you have, as well as your limited experience, you manage to use a length of metal wire to create a sturdy trip wire, and place it at the door leading into the area.

At the same time, you heft whatever isn’t nailed down and pile it into and on the Centilation shaft, hopefully sealing it to an effective level.

Finally, you here heavy foot steps coming down the hall. Time has run out.

We are the centre of this operation and our survival is paramount. I doubt there's really much on the ship that could reliably take the Purifier as to take something like that on what appears to be a personal cruiser would be a little bizarre.
Our dron, optimally, should also survive, but their lives are less than our own.

With your plan set, you wait. The foot steps grow closer. You wait longer, and they grow even closer. Finally, you see them. Lightly armored compared to the Golem you saw at the colony, they sported a blade that had a red glowing edge, and a small shield. The first one to enter immediatly tripped over the wire, slamming into the ground, then be engulfed by Purfiers flames.

The second one stumbled over their comrade, being engulfed in flames as well, with the third one cutting the wire and the fourth one striding in.

The first one immediatly seemed to be taking damage from the fire, with Purifier stomping down on its back to keep it pinned. The second one however swung it sword and cut into purifiers side, while the third one sent the blade to stand into the enemy golem’s chest. Purifiers armor deflected the blade, unfortunately sending it into its arm.

The fourth one stride straight towards your position, immediatly stumbling as the aerial sonic attack smashed into it.

>Enemy is now pinned. Left chest location crippled. Chest total armor reduced to ten. Enemy suffers -5 penalty to attacks.

The Purifier was taking some damage, but seemed to have gave more than equal back, the first Golem lying on the ground with only half a boy available to move.

Purifier was missing an arm though, and fire was spilling out of its left side where it’s missing arm used to be.

The Golem you were currently fighting slowly began to rise, lifting your tail up with it.

You feel the sting of pain as your hands smash into the Golems last arm, crushing some component or another in the machine that cause a massive plume of smoke or spit out of its damage body. Then, unceremoniously, it slumped to the ground like a rag doll, the machinery within coming to a grinding halt.

Before you could celebrate your victory, another Golem entered the room. Only it was thrown in, and quickly smashed into a far wall, crumbling to the ground dead.

Purifier was now without an arm, but was having an easier time with the last two Golems with the help of the two Dron.

Near failure

As your Dron work to create a new Barricade, rather slowly due to their small size and the weight of the Golems, you work to repair what was quickly becoming your personal bodyguard.

The arm of the Purifier was brought close to where it had been cut, and after nearly losing your cool trying to fix the damned machine, you finally manage to reattach the arm, and watch as the Purifier begins to make small welds and repairs to its self now that it had detected the arm was properly placed.

>The Purifier has recovered two structural hp. 6/10 total

Using it brightest flames, and the remains of the door and machines that had been wrecked in the fighting, a thick solid slab of warped metal now forming a barrier between your sanctuary and the main hall.

All your exits were now blocked, but that also meant any avenue for your enemy to invade was blocked as well, save for them breaking down your defenses, which was unlikely since you still had Purifier on your side.

“Well, seems you’ve managed to hold on, and even barricade yourself. I must say, you are a surprise. I sort of regret not giving your kind a chance, you’de make great cannon fodder. I’ll give you some time to revel in what little praise you’ve earned, mostly because I have more pressing matters to attend to.”

The sky went silent with Ilan’s voice as suddenly as he had begun, and you were left staring up at the ceiling, wounded pride making itself known to you.

You concentrate on accelerating your growth, not wanting to leave things unattended for to long. As you do, you send out a little thought, trying to contact Snow.

Instead of hearing something, you see something. With a rush of light, you appear in some bright land scape. bright, not like the manawastes deadly sun, but bright as in colorful and warm. Plants of all the colors you could imagine grew from the ground, and the air smelled sweet and clean.

A looming feeling of peace engulfed you, seeming to wash away the feelings of fear and survival.

You feel peace eating away at your nerves, your anger, and your ambition. It was just all so...blissfully complete, like eternally sinking into heaven.

You hear a soft voice, whispering to quiet to understand, but all the same you felt comforted and warmed by it...

You stop your stroll, and take a deep breath as you hear the sound of glass straining against something.

With a sigh that leveled your mind, you speak.

>Release me

The world shatters around you at your command, the ground falling away in shards as you stood over a metal floor. The warm sun was replaced with cold artificial light, and the world was replaced with a room.

Behind you, a man in colorful robes with gold jewels towered over Snow, who looked more blissful than you had almost been. The robed figures hands were lightly pressed against Snow’s temples, and around them were odd devices that seemed to have magical whisps of vapor entangling Snow.

With that said, the dream world began to fade away like a mist, and light began to shine on Snow "When we wake up, I'll probably have a plan since you aren't working on one. So be ready."

With a smirk, they vanished, and the world ceased to be as you returned to your own mind, and began to awaken yourself.

The feeling of open air once more was felt on your skin, your escape from your cacoon marked by the sound of alarms blaring and Dron squeeking in a panic.

Your vision was blurry, and for a second, your saw a massive white shape moving about the room, before looking towards you. As your vision cleared, the figure shrunk in size considerably. You rub your eyes, and when you look again Snow stands over you.

Snow nodded, then grabbed a nearby counter, ripping it from the ground and throwing it through the glass, causing a rush of air outwards and the wind to scream.

“Good luck,” they said, before jumping out and being carried by the wind back, before flying past the window towards the front of the ship.

After getting the Purifier, you stand in the hall outside he Engine room, the Barricade you had constructed torn down and the alarms still going off.

Charging off, you make it to an atrium, where the remains of what looks to be a eaten feast, with dirty plates and picked clean animal bones. Sitting at one of the tables, you see a Daguran woman, with a set of Knives arrayed infront of her.

“So, you’re Lord Ilan’s pest? Must say, you Dron are much uglier then I expected.” She said, picking up a bronze knife and balancing it on the top of her finger.

She then stood up and began to walk towards the door, the door you needed to go through.

“Let’s see if you’re even worth the effort.”

She kicks open the door and walks through, passing by a large and Familiar Golem who enters the atrium.

The Golem you fought alongside against the blade stood before you, and had its eyes placed squarely on you.

With quick commands, Purifier charges forward, with Escort charging as well.

The two ancient Golems clashed in the center, Purifier bashing their shield against Escort, while Escort pulled out their sword which flew brighter than your own. It brought the blade down, being blocked by Purifier, but sending the Golem to its knees and cracking the marble floor beneath him.

The two Dron took to the air, the flyer carrying the shouter as the shouter tried to attack the Escort with Sonic attacks, the large Golem seeming unaffected.

The Escorts head began to follow the the flying Dron, it’s eyes beginning to glow and a low whine beginning to grow in volume.

You however come in low and fast, sending a carefully targeted blade swing at the Escorts side, the one with the damaged arm.

You send forth your next Attack, already stuck in the movement as you realize it wouldn’t do anything.

Then you notice something. Your tail did go forward to strike against the Golem. Instead, you got some reason sent your free hand forward, fingers out as if you sought to claw the impenetrable armor.

Around your wrist, the fade image of the braclet you had been given was seen, and for the briefest second, it became solid.

The braclet shines bright, and you hand seems to just, go through the armor as if it were water. Your hand you feel is guided by the braclet, until you feel something against your palm. Gripping it, you yank with more power than you were used to.

As you pulled out some odd, glowing mechanism, you notice that things appeared to have slowed to a stand still around you. As you take note of the hovering Dron, things suddenly began to move, with the Escort flying off to the side and leaving the vaporized remains of their ruined arm and left shoulder strewn across the room as they smashed into the wall, the entire ship shaking and leaning briefly before correcting itself.

You hear a small chuckle in the back of your mind, and the bracelet becomes intangible, then disappears.
