You are Michael Simpson Jr., a 15 year old with the power to make copies of yourself. You spent the morning testing the limits of your abilities, finding that you control their positioning as they appear, and they have the same knowledge and memories that you did at the moment you made them, though they get dumber the more clones you have. Despite all attempts, they are always naked.

[1 clone active]
Finishing your burger, your thoughts turn to the future. You don’t know what you plan to do with your newfound powers, but any path that involves using them will undoubtedly lead to confrontations with other capes. With that in mind, you need to find out how well they can deal with taking some damage. While you could find that out at home, you also want to know if there’s a limit to how far you can move from your clones once made, and the one you left at the house is still active.

Decision made, you hop back on the bus as it makes its way to the forest outside city limits. Making your way through the designated camping areas, you quickly detour off the main pathways until you find a small clearing. A nice, quiet spot where you can experiment without worrying about interruptions.

You make a new clone right in front of you. He gives you an awkward smile and shrugs, holding his arms out to accept the beating you’re about to give him. It’s almost enough to make you feel bad for what you’re doing. Almost.

Your right hook takes him squarely in the jaw, knocking your double to the ground. You give him a minute, nursing your sore hand. You don’t think you’ve ever hit anyone - or anything, for that matter - that hard in your life. Slowly, he stands back up, wincing. “Fugh, that hur’,” he mumbles. Still, he knows what he was made to do. The next few hits go to his torso, and this time when he falls down, you don’t let up, heavy kicks raining down until you’re out of breath.

The doppelganger lays still, battered and bruised, slowly bleeding from a busted lip, squinting up at you through swelling eyes. As your breath evens out, he gives you a weak nod. You straddle him and begin to hammer his face with imprecise blows. Soon your hands are covered in blood from your split knuckles and your clones’ increasingly battered face, and eventually he stills, knocked unconscious.

You stand, breathing heavily, over your living training dummy, contemplating where to go from here. You could always just dismiss it like the others, but you have been wondering. What happens if they die? The other one said they’re willing to if you need it. A sudden noise from further into the forest breaks your train of thought. Is that voices you hear?

This warrants further attention. Leaning down, you get rid of the battered body at your feet and tread in the direction of the noise. Keeping as quiet as you can, you creep through the underbrush and low hanging branches until the crashing of branches and grumbled curses becomes clear. Peeking out from behind a tree, you catch sight of the source.

The young man is… strangely dressed to say the least. He’s wearing a dark skin tight halter top and matching leggings, currently caught on a branch, along with a heavy hood that conceals his face from your view. Curses spew forth from his hidden face as he unhooks himself from the offending shrub. “Fuckin’ asshole, with his goddamn creepy face and shitty hideout. Why do I gotta come to him, can’t he come to the city like a civilized piece of shit?”

He lets out an unmanly yelp, and you nearly do the same, when another voice suddenly answers. “You come to me because I pay you to do so. I stay out of the city because doing so has its purpose.” The voice is harsh in tone and nature, as if used rarely, and whoever is speaking is obscured by trees. “The forest is losing its uses,” it continues. “The park is seeing more use, and remaining here increases the chances of being found. As evidenced.”

You’re starting to feel unsure about this. As you turn back to head to safety, you freeze. Behind you is a monster. On four legs, it stands as high as your waist, its reptilian scales clashing with the cat-like head that stares unblinkingly into your eyes. “I smelled blood, so I took the liberty of sending out one of my pets,” the voice continues from out of sight. Oh shit.

You did not sign up for this. However, you are nothing if not adaptable, so you consider the options laid out before you. Calmly and rationally you decide the best decision is OH SHIT FUCK RUN.

You take a leap over the cat-lizard thing and run like your life depends on it, which it probably does. “Catch him, you idiot!” the second voice shouts. This is bad. You redouble your efforts, running through the pain. Have to get to a crowd, there’s no way they’ll murder you in front of witnesses, right? You tear through the camping site at record speed, not daring to look behind you. Finally, the bus stop - yes! You leap into the open door of a waiting bus, startling the driver.

“Jesus, kid. Near gave me a heart attack. You alright?” You wave off his concerned look, and urge him to leave, giving a quick glance behind you. No sign of the hooded figure or freaky cat thing; looks like you lost them. The bus driver checks his watch, “Technically, I should wait a few more minutes, but I’m pretty sure you’re the only person here. You sure you’re alright, kid? Look like you seen a ghost or somethin’.” You tell him between gasps that you’re fine, just go already.

You remain skittish until the bus makes its’ next stop and picks up a few more passengers. After what feels like entirely too long, you get off at the stop nearest your house and speed walk the rest of the way. The sight of home lifts a huge weight off your shoulders, and you gratefully head straight to your room. The clone you made this morning is still at your desk, scrolling through something on your old laptop. He gives you a little wave and tells you that he looked up everything he could find about the local capes and saved some notes in case he dispelled. Also, Beth, your sister, got home about an hour ago.

Some normal human interaction sounds great right about now. Dismissing your clone for now, you go across the hall and knock gently on your sister’s bedroom door. “You got a minute?” The door opens a crack, and upon seeing you, your sister opens the door fully in silent invitation to enter.
“To what do I owe the pleasure?” she drawls while flopping down on her bed.
“Is it too much to ask to spend some time with my favorite sister? Is feels like we haven’t talked in months.” While you say it jokingly, the words are genuine; your sister practically raised you. With mom being the person she was, your dad had to work twice as hard to support a family, very rarely having time off. As such, Beth was the pillar of your home life, the one you went to with your troubles. You put some distance between the two of you when you started high school, too cool to have someone mothering you. But with the day you’ve been having, now’s a good time to have a friend. “You look tired,” you tell her.
She laughs, but the bags under her eyes don’t lie. “Just the prep classes,” she says. “It’s a lot of busy work and some of the people are annoying, but it’s worth it.” Beth starts telling you some about the people she’s met, promising that she’ll introduce you properly when school starts, and you slip into comfortable small talk (carefully keeping out the events of the last two days). Eventually a yawn escapes her mouth, and she shoos you from the room, citing the need for a nap.

Spending some time with your sister has left you much more calm. Now that you’re thinking more clearly, your first thought is to identify those two you heard talking in the woods. You skim through the notes left from the clone study session, complete with handy links to relevant wiki pages. With their help, you can definitely say that the one you saw was Scoundrel, a freelance thief. Unfortunately, the one who sicced the mutant cat thing on you doesn’t match up with any of the known villains. Even expanding your search to nearby cities doesn’t lead to any results. Damn.

Putting that on the backburner, you look through the other locals. The Protectorate and Wards are surprisingly combat stacked, though given the size of the local gangs and blatant cartel influence it makes sense. Continuing to scroll, you get a quick chuckle from the Florida Man page. You waste some time flicking through speculation in the forums, checking out Shiva, the new ward inducted today, until the sound of the garage door tells you that dad is home.

Dinner that night is far less awkward. Your sister looks much better after her earlier nap and conversation flows easily between the three of you. Eventually, your dad reminds you that school is starting soon and you’ll need to go in to meet your teachers and pick your electives. You privately note that will leave you with less time to work on cape things, though you should have enough free time to at least get some things started.

[Let me know any questions you have, especially about the local heroes and villains. The info you got is intentionally vague, since you got it online, but you can get a bit more if you ask the right questions. Also, now is a good time to think about what your plan for the future is.]

>Get a costume together

Don't need to worry about less free time when we can delegate stuff to clones.
>>
>>2233701
Why would we need a costume if our clones are always naked anyway? It would certainly make it easier to spot the original.
>>
>>2234242
Obviously we need several for our clones to change into, so no one recognizes them. Bunch of masks should be a good start.
>>
>>2218520
Bwahaha. A reference to Florida Man.
>>
>>2234242
>>2234251

A reverse costume: When caping and using powers, we go naked with a cheap mask. Buy enough masks to hand out to the other clones and BAM--we got ourselves a simple and cheap costume. Some Party City masks ought to do the trick.
>>
>>2234458
Pretty much this, i figured cheap treanchcoats or something would work but that could get expensive.
some sort of thinker might figure out who we are from birthmarks and shit though.
>>
>>2234458
>>2234562
Yea, not naked. Cheap trenchcoats sound good.
>>
clearly we should be called "Flash Mob"
>>
The next few days go by in a whirlwind blur of activity. Most of your days are spent buying school supplies with your dad, though you manage to find some time to check out a party supply store by yourself. Even though part of you wants a flashy costume, with how your powers work it just isn’t practical. With that in mind, you buy as many cheap identical masks as you can, along with a cheesy trenchcoat so you won’t have to be completely naked. Your basic costume needs are met, but you’re running low on pocket money. Soon you’ll have to find a way to make money, or just ask dad for an allowance.

Another day is spent at your new school, getting a basic tour, choosing your classes and meeting staff with your dad. The grounds are large and well-kept, and the teachers seem nice. There’s an optional program to take half days twice a week, ostensibly to allow students to take part time jobs for work experience, but it also serves as cover for the Wards. Dad says you can do so if you want since your sister is, but warns you that if you’re irresponsible with your free time he’ll be quite upset. You don’t have to make the choice now, the staff tells you, but if you wait until later in the school year it may take some time to alter your schedule.

As the days wind down, you finally have some time to think. You have a pretty good grasp of how your powers work and how to use them, and you have a costume hidden in the back of your closet. School starts in a week. What now?

Just some very casual low-risk convenience store robberies while we're chilling someplace with lots of witnesses.
Walk in, note asking for money, if all goes well, stash the money somewhere and dispel the clone.
If anything starts to go wrong, dispel it.
>>
So if we don't want to make our own gang and stock it with clones then we could just mob flash and protest big sucky businesses or gang areas like the Empire 88 bases or hangouts for example
>>
>>2236778
>>Take it easy
>>
>>2237766
Might want to be careful, we've never had a clone die for one thing, it might be bad. Hurt us, reduce our max clone count for a while, etc.

For another, we might become recognizable.
