Ok Guys! Time to set up this week's thread! We'll do... IDK, 2-3 posts here, then one a day, just like this past week. We'll probably look at a 1900 EST cutoff on votes during the week, since I'm on a better schedule now and can reasonably expect to be home by then fairly reliably.

Couple things before I forget, archives for this one are here: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Strike%20Witches%202016
And the Patreon is here: https://www.patreon.com/ghostdivision

Sorry about the late start this evening, had some stuff that absolutely had to get done in the apartment before work tomorrow. Like washing my coffee mugs. haha!

+++++

Everything's fuzzy- not that particularly bothers you right now as you track a half dozen human-sized targets effortlessly, alphanumerics scrolling next to the glowing outlines of your sister and Una as they assist you in bringing the Fenrir's complex systems online. Both witches have summoned their familiars- A swift fox in Anastasia's case, an osprey in Una's- in order to help you get the system to track witches correctly.

"You know," Ana says, crouching behind some 55 gallon drums of lubricant. "This seems a little unfair."

"How so?" Una responds from her own spot behind the tailplane of one of the marine Ravens aboard.

"Well, that thing can track us from hundreds of miles away just because we're using magic." Una says. "It can see us the instant we summon a familiar. What have we got that can do that to it?"

"Radar?" You ask over the radio net. She frowns at you and sticks out her tongue.

"I mean witches." She says. "What does a witch have that matches just that one sensor, whatever it's called."

"A Wells detector." Kim says. "And nothing. Witches can't match a Fenrir."

Anastasia frowns, but Una shrugs. "She's not wrong. A good wolf team is a match for a wing of conventional fighters, or any witch you'd care to name."

"What about Natalya?" Ana asks.

"What, you mean the girl your dad adopted postwar?"

Ana nods, and Una frowns. "Maybe not her, but that's like saying a witch can take any steelwing... except Frank Bishop. Outliers happen."

"How's the read on them, Morgan?" Kim asks on the interplane channel while the two witches outside continue their conversation. "I can bump the gain up a bit for better clarity, it'll help get through any stealth abilities or anything like that, or I can try to get some more power to the system and get us some more range with it."

[] Adjust the gain, countering stealthy abilities is more important.
[] Adjust the power, having additional range on the sensor could be a big advantage.

[x] Adjust the gain, countering stealthy abilities is more important.

"Adjust the gain." You instruct, watching as the outlines around Anastasia and Una become more distinct.

"How's that?" Kim asks.

"That works. What's next?"

"Ok, we're going to work on the laser rangefinding and detection." She responds. "You should start to see more data on the parked aircraft?"

You focus your attention to the Raven Una's still behind, noting the data stream starting to denote it's range, heading, and relative velocity to you. You rapidly shift your attention to several other aircraft in the hangar, a split second lag registering before each one gains the same data block next to it.

"This is just detection and rangefinding," Kim says, somewhat superfluously- you were already aware of that. "But I can already see how I can mate it with some other systems to get it to work slightly better for us. And I'll work on getting the information lag out, but that may not be possible till we get the computer online."

Right now, you know, the Fenrir's powerful computers are still offline entirely. The secondary systems you've been using are more than enough for what you've needed- simple transit flights and getting the weapons and sensors online- but they're rapidly hitting their processing limit already, even just running like this. There's a reason you flew in with just the basic visual spectrum cameras and navigation systems running.

"How so?" You ask, slightly wary. Kim's been very businesslike the entire time- very anxious to improve upon systems in the fighter, especially ones her mother designed or had a hand in making functional.

"Well, I think I can mate it with my magic to increase it's range and power." She says. "And I've got a couple ideas about how we could improve it outside of that, but I want to do some studying first."

You're about to respond when you see Ana look off to her side and wave at someone. You're able to identify them a second later as Rebecca and Jessie as soon as they walk around from behind a Wyvern, just out of your line of sight.

"Commander Piper said you were down here booting up your sensors." Jessie says, looking up at the Fenrir. "Sent us down to see if we could help."

1/2
>>
"Well, I can always use more targets." Kim says. "If you want to go hide behind something, it'll help us calibrate the wells detector better. You'll need to summon your familiars."

Both witches nod, their familiars appearing with the faint pop you're familiar with. Becca looks to have some sort of dog as a familiar, a slightly curved tail appearing at the base of her spine and a pair of triangular ears sprouting from her head, while Jessie looks to have Some form of big cat- mountain lion, perhaps, the tawny coloration of her familiar's tail and ears making it hard to tell.

"Hmm" Kim says, as they split- and you see the data streams hesitate for a second, as if unsure. "I was worried about that. Morgan, the system was designed to track no more than two or three witches a time. Mom designed it before she had VDNI."

"So what's the solution?" You ask.

"Well, I can try to mate it with the LADAR and use that to handle the weapon cueing and rangefinding, and limit the wells detector to just tracking magical emanations, Or I can try to program the wells detector to limit the data it's going for and use it purely for weapons and detection instead of also trying to achieve a threat analysis."

"What's the tradeoff?"

"Well, using the LADAR means that it may lose track of a witch if she's able to mask herself behind something before it achieves lock, though if it's mated to the wells detector it means that as soon as they unmasked we'd be able to work on a firing solution again. The other way means that we'd be able to lock them up quickly, but we'd have no idea what they were capable of."

[] Go with the LADAR mating, you'd rather use the Wells detector to just track magic, since it's the only thing you have that can.
[] Limit the data to just what you need for weapons and rangefinding- you can deal without having the threat analysis.

Does masking include things like clouds? Because that was a powerful tool that won us at least one fight. I'd rather leave it as is if it means we can properly track witches through cover.

[x] Go with the LADAR mating, you'd rather use the Wells detector to just track magic, since it's the only thing you have that can.

"Mate it with the LADAR then." You order, watching as the targeting data disappears from Ana and Una, though it remains on the other two witches for as long as it takes them to find something to hide behind or under. You're still able to track them via pure magical emanations, but you'd never be able to achieve a firing solution on them now.

Not that it'd matter with a direct-fire weapon, like your guns or any of the special weapons that the Fenrir can house in the pod beneath you, since the computed lead is projected in front of the target for you- with VDNI, tracking is almost as good as having a firing solution for guns.

"ok, done. I'll be able to undo any of these changes whenever you want me to, by the way." Kim says. "They'll revert to regular functionality, but I can always modify them again later. Ok, next up is the Radar," She says. "We can't actually light that in the hangar, so I'll skip it. Hmm... nothing else really matters a lot, the Tesla sensor onboard we just use for antiradation work, and I can't really improve it. our omnidirectional IRST is fine as is, I can't do anything with it right now, but I may come up with something later."

"So we're done?" You ask.

You can almost feel her shrug. "Close. We just have to let the chief know and start shutting everything down. I can handle that if you let me."

"Go for it." you respond, mentally preparing yourself for the brief wave of exhaustion you know is coming as the systems are powered down. It's worse than you expected- you wake up from a short, unplanned nap when the VDNI system disconnects, leaving you to awake with a start to your sister's grinning face.

"Morning." She says, reaching in to help you stand on wobbly legs.

1/2
>>
"How long was I asleep?"

She shakes her head. "couple of minutes, maybe less. The chief said you'd likely got knocked out when you pulled the APU power and shut everything down."

"We only got sensors done." You point out- she nods.

"I figured as much. Here, let me help." She makes to help you out of the cockipt, but the last dregs of sleep are already falling away and you feel good enough that you shake your head and stand. "Kim?"

"Jessie is fishing her out of that tank." She says, looking back past the raised canopy towards the hatch, where Jessie is leaning in, reaching down to help Kim out. "I couldn't fly like that."

You shrug- it's hard to explain to someone who isn't plugged just how much freedom you really have up there- the jet is almost just an extension of your body. But for a witch, that's still more than she has to deal with. Despite all of Aunt Merlin's work, strikers are still little more than magical turbine engines strapped to rudimentary missile guidance systems for launching agiles and sidewinders, and a limited datalinked MFD that can give them some radar coverage- usually from an AWACS or a bird like yours.

She eyeballs the VDNI uplink, retracting into it's recess in the ejection seat, with a distrusting eye, as if it's going to suddenly attack her.

"So what's next?"

Anastasia shrugs. "We're off for now. Evening chow is in an hour or two, but other than that and evening chow with Mom, there's nothing on tap. What do you want to do?"

[x] Let's take Una and see if we can find William.

"Grab Una and let's see if we can go find my element lead." You say, looking back over your shoulder to see Kim shake her head groggily- before realizing she's falling behind and running over to join you, still in her flight suit- such as it is. The single piece, long sleeved leotard doesn't leave a lot to the imagination- which is made worse considering her age and status. Fortunately, you're used to this kind of thing- as soon as Elizabeth's familiar emerged, she threw out all her pants.

It wasn't till the trash had gone out that your mother had informed her that only military witches got to go bareleg all the time- and promptly took her to get new pants.

Still, you end up giving her your flight jacket to wear- the OD green top fitting her like a tent, covering her almost down to the knee. It leaves you out of uniform, but it is what it is- You'll deal with that if and when you need to.

Una shakes her head at the motion. "You and Will will get right along." She says. "He was the same way, started carrying a damn poncho in his flight bag just so I wouldn't walk through the carrier in that thing. I don't think he'd have minded so much if we could wear skivvies under it, but it requires full skin contact."

Ana makes a face. "Ew."

Una laughs and nods, looking back at Kim, who's kind of picking at the stretchy, skin-tight suit through the open front of your flight jacket like it's something terrible now. "Don't worry, the ship's laundry can clean them. And you get used to it." Una says.

"I didn't notice until you said something." Kim responds, frowning.

"They're indecent is what they are." A deep voice adds from the hatchway you were about to pass through- Una makes a face back at it as another pilot steps out.

You go to salute, but he waves it off. "Don't stress it man, you're out of uniform and you've got a fine enough excuse. Lieutenant Commander William Smith." He says, holding out his hand for you to shake while handing Una a brown paper bag with the other.

"There's lunch." he says as she unfolds it an peers inside.

"Box nasty?"

He shrugs. "Teach you to miss afternoon chow call." He says. "Now you're being rude and interrupting."
>>
"Lieutenant Junior grade Morgan Laroux-Bishop." You say, returning the handshake. You look back at Kim just in time to see her step to your side.

"Ensign Kimberly Wells." She says.

"Apprentice Ensign." Anastasia corrects- you scowl at her.

Will looks impressed. "A Bishop-Wells team all of my very own? Hot daym I musta done something right." He says with a smile. "Let me guess, you inherited all your folk's hot-shit and I won't have to do anything anymore?"

Una jabs him in the ribs.

"Sorry, Sorry." he says. "So this is your first time at sea?"

Kim nods, you shrug. "I'm told I was aboard the seawolf in the early 90s as a baby." You respond- and Will's eyes bug out.

"Wait, you mean THAT Laroux?" He asks. "Holy shit, man. You shoulda told me."

You shrug.

He shakes his head. "Holy shit. Well, Welcome to the squadron. I'm sure you've met the boss."

Una nods. "We've met, yes."

"Not you." he responds. "What did you think of her?"

You shrug. "Too early for me to make any kind of judgment. Seemed chewed up though."

Will nods. "Yeah, they are. They thought Garcia was the best damn thing in their lives, their very own Frank fucking Bishop. Punk ass." He pauses. "Uh, not your daddy, I mean. Garcia was the punkass."

He takes your silence as a prompting to continue. "Dude was trying to be your dad in all the wrong damn ways." He practically spits.

"He wasn't so bad-" Anastasia starts.

"Cos he was trying to hit that, princess." Will responds, perhaps a bit more viciously than is strictly necessary. "He was trying to get with all of you, Including my Wife!"

Una nods. "He was."

"But-" Anastasia protests.

"And you probably wouldn't have thought he was so damn great if he ain't take his laptop to the bottom of the pacific with him." Will continues.

"What was on it?" Kim asks.

"Not something you need to worry about." Una responds, nudging her husband.

"William." Una warns.

"Yeah." he finishes.

"So what made you want to be a wolf driver?" He asks, after a second.

You shrug. "My dad made the Wyvern iconic. My big sisters gave the Raven it's name."

"Good point." He laughs. "You ok with following orders, or are you gonna be a natural heroic son of a bitch like your old man?"

[x] I think my maman had more of an influence on me.

"I didn't really grow up with my dad's side of the family." You respond. "So I probably was influenced more by my maman."

"So you actually listen to orders?"

"Hey!" Anastasia cuts in. "Dad followed orders."

"Sure," laughs Will "Sure. When he felt like it. But he was good enough to get away with it, and they still use his fight over Alaska on how to engage superior numbers in just about every flight school in the world, and he's the most heavily decorated motherfucker to come out of the war, so he musta been doing something right."

"Well, he married mom." Anastasia says.

"Ain't that a bit out of line considering your brother is right there?" Una asks.

You shrug. Your parent's status never bothered you- they got along well enough, though they didn't ever see each other much.

Ana grimaces though. "Sorry, Morgan. I wasn't thinking."

"No big." You respond as Kim starts to insistently tug at your sleeve.

"Morgan." She says, after you look down- she really shouldn't be doing that- she's young, but not that young, and it's kinda immature for her. "I'm kinda tired. Can we go back to the squad bay?"

You look over at Will, who looks over at Una, who nods. "Setting up a Fenrir is really draining." She says, smiling at bit at Kim. "Surprised Laroux there isn't feeling it."

You feel fine enough, honestly- nothing out of the ordinary as far as fatigue goes- everything went incredibly smoothly, and you were able to adapt to the fighter's data stream pretty easily.

"That's fine. Laroux, you ever need to catch me, I'll be around here." Will says, indicating the hangar. "Una and I only really head back to the bay to sleep, and sometimes we'll just string a hammock under our bird and sleep here."

"They allow that?" Kim asks, suddenly interested.

Will nods. "Yeah, sure. Ops down here aren't 24 hour, there's no one here on fourth watch except the guards on the Fenrirs. Pretty decent place to sleep, if you aight with the salt spray."

Kim suddenly yawns again, stretching her back as she does so, then shakes her head, as if to clear it.
"I think I'm to tired. Morgan, can we go take a nap?"

[x] Might as well if nothing else is going on today

You nod- you were up before dawn this morning- and 'morning' was a couple hours behind the ship already by then. While you're not tired, you know you could, and would sleep pretty easily right now- and it'll mean you're on hand to handle Kim, should it be necessary.

Anastasia gives you a curious look and shrugs. "I think I'm going up to the observation deck for a while, watch the weather on the way in." She says.

"Weather?" Will asks. "Meteorological didn't have anything, they said it's clear."

Anastasia smiles. "Trust me, I know storms. There's one on the way, a gnarly one, too. I'm going topside."

Kim looks nervous. "H-how bad?" She asks, grasping for your hand.

Anastasia shrugs. "Flight ops will probably be canceled. Even if we could get stuff off the deck, getting back on would be next to impossible, even for a witch."

"Day off." Will smiles, nodding. "Aight. Y'all go do what you're doin, I'll be around."

"Good meeting you, Morgan, Kim." Una says before turning to walk off with her husband- bumping him with her hip as she does so.

Suddenly you find yourself alone with Kim, who, true to her word, is tiredly pulling at your hand, leading you back to the squadron bay.

It's empty inside- the rest of the witches must be somewhere else. Kim heads to the attached head with a bag slung over her shoulder- her sleepwear, you assume. Meanwhile, you simply dump your OD green flight suit to your locker- you tend to sleep in your underclothes anyway, and you'll change those after you shower. You're not quite sure when that's gonna be, but you'll sort it out.

You're in your rack, with the curtain drawn back for privacy before Kim's out of the head. You hear her huff a little in disappointment- clearly, she expected to be able to talk to you some before getting sleep, but she's also not going to disturb you, which is just as well. Despite being remarkably well-behaved recently, she's also still Kim Wells.

You hear her climb into her own rack, just below yours, and draw the curtain back. The little fan comes to life with a tinny whirring noise, and you can hear her turn on the small reading light, no doubt for one of her manga. You never saw the point, but both Kim and her sister are addicts- you've no doubt someone's going to have to keep a close eye on her in Yokosuka.

You fall asleep on that thought- your sleep being, as usual, dreamless and quiet.

And too short- you're woken up by an instant shaking. "Morgan. You're gonna miss evening chow." Anastasia says, frowning at you.

You could eat, you're sure, but at the same time, you could also just sleep. With another eight hours- at least- of work to do tomorrow before the fenrir is up and ready to go, you're likely going to need it.

>>
Ok guys! Short thread tonight, probably 3-4 posts tops, to close out the week, and then we'll get our next up tomorrow! How do you guys like this daily content thing, this working pretty well for you, or is it meh?

+++

[x] Get up and get dressed enough to go eat- it'll help with the squadron

You grunt an answer- more than enough for Anastasia to interpret. She watches you as you roll out of the rack, not even bothering to let you dress without watching. "Ya know," She remarks. "The other girls are going to have problems being mad at you for being you if they ever catch you without a shirt or pants on."

You snort. "In other words, make sure to sleep in clothes."

"Why you gotta be like that?" She asks.

"I haven't even been here a full day and you're already trying to hook me up." You respond, pulling on a clean olive drab flight suit.

"Maybe I'm trying to hook one of them up?" Anastasia shoots back.

"And what if I'm not interested?" You ask.

"Why wouldn't you be?"

"Why would I be?"

"Well, they're all good girls, and none of them are bad looking or anything-"

"And I don't know anything about them."

"And you're telling me you wouldn't be down for a no-attachments engagement?"

"Why is this such a thing for you all of a sudden?" You ask, closing your locker. "Something happen? someone say something? I'm not dad, ya know. I don't really want to end up with half the squadron married to me. Just let me fly my plane, I'll decide when- and if- I do anything with anyone."

She shrugs, seemingly put off by your answer. "Fine. I'm sorry for trying to hook you up."

You don't bother saying anything- letting her have the last word might get her to drop it, though you get the sinking feeling this won't be the last you hear of it. You snap on your watch- dial in, like mom taught you- and run a hand back through your close-cropped hair. "You good?"

"What about Kim?" Anastasia asks.

[] Better wake her up- she won't panic if you're not there, but she'll be harder to deal with if you don't at least ask.
[] Let her sleep- integration is harder on the witch half of the team anyway, and she was pretty out of it when you got back.

Ana, they're Witches on a carrier, they could have just about anyone they wanted on this boat. They don't need your help, and I'm getting along just fine without it.

Best guess, either Ana is projecting because she can't get any action on a boat where her boss's boss is her elder sister and the skipper is her mom, or in general due to concerns with the various elder siblings has just rubbed off in general. If Morgan was less chill, we should poke back about the other sisters dating lives.

Little does she know, all we need to do to attract a mate is go do some shirtless CQC drills in the hangar.

[x] Better wake her up- she won't panic if you're not there, but she'll be harder to deal with if you don't at least ask.

You look at the closed curtain of Kim's bunk for a minute and consider just letting her sleep- integration is harder on the witch than it is on the pilot, since she not only has to adapt to the data, but she's also got demands placed upon her by the magic systems in the Fenrir. It'll be worse when you bring the computer online, too, simply because of it's requirements on your systems operator.

You walk over without answering Anastasia, pulling the curtain back enough to see Kim sprawled out on top of the covers, one arm flung over her eyes, the other just barely off the mattress, a slight bump behind the curtain marking it's location from the outside.

You gently grasp one of her shoulders and shake, enough to get her to open one eye and peek out from behind her forearm, opening both of them when she sees it's you. She holds out her arms, as if asking you to help her out of her bed- you frown, but pick her up under the arms and set her on the linoleum floor, and her feet arch against the cold.

"Time for chow." You say by way of explanation- she nods, and rummages in her locker briefly before padding off to the head to change.

"You know, she really doesn't have to do that." Anastasia points out. "When we're off duty, we don't really have any dress code we have to keep." She says.

"We?"

"Well, witches." She amends. "You're allowed PT clothes off duty, but the only time you could get caught out in something like that would be on a port call, in town."

"Or whenever witches want to get some eye candy." you say, looking over at her. She shrugs.

"It is a bit of misfortune for me that we had to be related." She says, with a smile.

You turn your blank stare on her, and she shrugs. "Don't give me that look, I'm not the only one that says it."

You're not entirely sure you even want to know.

[x] Could be amusing. Who?

You keep your blank stare on her- a stare you mastered very early in life. Being who you are- and having inherited the looks you did, it was a very necessary skill to have. And saldy, in this case, it does no good. "Fine, I'll bite. Who?" You ask. Her grin gets wider.

"You'll have to guess."

"And I'm losing interest." you respond.

"Want a hint?"

"Ana."

"Snakes."

You pause- cease would be a better term. It's like every molecule in your body stops all movement for a split second.

Anastasia's grin gets wider. "Cassie and Erica."

"Huh." You say- the information does fit how they act, to an extent- Cassie always seems fairly nervous and on edge around you but entirely unwilling to leave, too. Without her familiar- a rattlesnake- it'd be harder to tell, but since she seems to almost reflexively summon her familiar with you around it's pretty easy.

Erica is entirely too close- she'd be like Kim, usually hanging off you or demanding piggy back rides from you or wanting to go off and do things without other people. Last time you visited the Bishop household she managed to get you out to Seattle for a day without anyone else. It wasn't bad, exactly, but it struck you as entirely too date-like for your tastes. You didn't say anything at the time, but resolved to avoid that kind of thing again.

Anastasia shrugs. "You'd think it'd be more of them." She says. "How much you want to bet one of the other girls in the unit is going to ask me about you tonight?"

"Sucker bet." you say, looking up as Kim steps out of the head, closing the door behind her. "Too vague."

"About that." She clarifies.

"About what?" Kim asks, crossing the room to stand next to you

You shake your head. "Don't worry about it." You say. "Let's go eat."

Kim tilts her head- she'll ask about it later, you're sure, but you can afford to ignore it right now.

"How's the weather?" You ask Anastasia as you walk to the officer's mess, and she shrugs. "Getting worse. Meteorological has changed their forecasts, so we're looking at everyone down by 02 and no flight ops at all after that. They're already moving steelwings around to clear the deck and get everything secured in the hangar."

"Will our plane be moved?" Kim asks.

Anastasia shakes her head. "No, but they'll be double chained in place, and so will all the aircraft around them."

You nod just as you step through the hatch to the mess, and you quickly see you're the last at the table- though, as at lunch, Billy and Una aren't there.

"Do Will and Una usually not eat with the unit?" Kim asks, and Anastasia nods.

"Usually not- they had an agreement with Kat about it when Garcia was with the squadron." She says. "I thought once he- once he was gone they'd start taking their meals with us again."

1/2
>>
"You always talk about Garcia." Kim points out, kind of huffily. "What about his witch? How come no one ever mentions her?"

"She was a bitch." Anastasia responds, simply. "Yeah, she was a sister witch, but no one liked her and we're all glad she's gone."

"That's kind of harsh." you point out.

Anastasia shrugs. "We're not going to celebrate she's dead, no parties or anything, but we're all happy she's not going to bother us anymore."

"That's still pretty harsh."

"You didn't know her." Your sister responds. "You'd sympathize if you had."

You let it go as you get your meal- a steak with a baked potato and mixed vegetables, and head over to the table, taking a vacant seat next to Jessie Cunningham, across from Commander Piper.

"Laroux. How you feeling?" Piper asks.

"Fine." You respond, and she cocks an eyebrow.

"You sure? We came in to the squad bay and you were out cold. Barely breathing."

You nod. "Normal for me. And I knew you were there."

"Normally I'd accuse you of lying, but I imagine you sleep light."

You nod.

"So I had a chance to see your records. They let you skip SERE?"

It's the training pilots go through in case they get shot down. Survival, Evasion, Resistance, Escape.

Essentially, how to survive in the wild, don't get caught, kill badguys if you absolutely have to and then escape if need to.

AKA, stuff Maman could literally do in her sleep and made sure we could as well.

Maman. It's a French term usually used by young children to address or refer to their mothers.
Mammon is "wealth regarded as an evil influence or false object of worship and devotion. It was taken by medieval writers as the name of the devil of covetousness, and revived in this sense by Milton."

[x] They decided to waive it after the first few days.

Anastasia grins as she sits down- she's heard the story.

"They decided to waive it after the first few days." You say, tearing the foil off your potato and salting it.

Commander Piper cocks an eyebrow. "I've never heard of that. Why?"

You shrug. "Trying to track me was impossible." You say simply. "And I proved to them enough times that I could have injured or killed instructors without them even realizing it that they weren't going to be able to teach me anything. So they waived it."

"Aren't there witches in cadre, though?" Jessie asks from next to you. "How'd you get around them?"

You shrug. "Disappearing's easy enough, if you know what they're looking for." You say.

"So how'd they find you to tell you to knock it off?"

You smile, slightly. "They sent Maman in to get me."

"So they had to get the mother of night herself to come get you?" Commander Piper asks, her tone of voice indicating she thinks you're lying your ass off.

Anastasia nods. "They had to send the mother of night in strikers to haul him out."

"She didn't really need the strikers." Jessie states, then pauses, looking sideways at you. "Did she?"

"Probably not." You say.

"Only probably?"

"Only probably." You repeat.

You're reasonably sure your mother could have easily found you and dragged you out on foot with no other support- but demanding access to strikers helped really drive it home that, in the event you went down over hostile terrain, you weren't trapped there with them.

"So is there anything you can't do?" Jessie asks, inching fractionally closer.

You shrug.

>>
"Talk, apparently." Rebecca says. "How's your integration going?"

"We're done with sensors." Kim answers for you. "We'll do computer tomorrow and weapons the day after, since it's going to be hard to do anything else without the computer. We can do work on the jets themselves probably the next day."

"They've been gone over by the techs since the crash." Piper says, but Kim shakes her head.

"Not the actual physical units, just the software. I want to see what the settings look like after the computer is up and running."

"Ok, go ahead and do that, then." Piper orders.

You spend the rest of the meal listening to the witches talk- you don't have really much to add to their conversation at all. The steak, as it happens, isn't the greatest you've ever had- but it's not the worst, either. But just as you finish, you suddenly feel incredibly tired, and have to fight to keep your eyes open.

"You ok Laroux?" Piper asks. you nod.

"Just tired."

"That's fine, you can go back to rack out. I expect you to be working on your plane tomorrow, clear?"

You nod. "Yes ma'am."

"Alright, go get some sleep."

"I'll head down that way too," Jessie says as Kim stands up with you. "make sure they can find everything ok."

You make a mental note to take off the flight suit in the rack- or sleep in it. After Tabitha's comments, you're not going to take any chances, especially not right now.

I'd say the paycheck makes up for it, but it kinda almost doesn't, haha. Ah well.

Anyway, that's it for the evening, guys. I may be running down to my folk's place tomorrow, so the thread may run short, IDK yet, we'll see what happens. As always, thanks for hanging out, I appreciate it. I'll see you lot tomorrow! till then, cheers guys!

>"Trying to track me was impossible." You say simply. "And I proved to them enough times that I could have injured or killed instructors without them even realizing it that they weren't going to be able to teach me anything. So they waived it."

"Enter the void. Empty, and become wind."
